- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, there are another edition of Birds Weekly. It's locked
- 0:13Speaker 1: and loaded. It is brought to you by the inside
- 0:16Speaker 1: of the Birds Network. For my man, Ray didn't dro
- 0:17Speaker 1: I'm Derek Gunn and Ray. That was a Monday night
- 0:21Speaker 1: was interesting, to say the least. It was nothing like
- 0:25Speaker 1: I don't think anybody expected when you talk about two
- 0:28Speaker 1: offenses that can put points on the boards, two quarterbacks
- 0:31Speaker 1: that were completing over seventy percent of their passes, and
- 0:36Speaker 1: it was a sloppy first half. It was an inconsistent
- 0:39Speaker 1: first half. It was a zero zero first half. Right,
- 0:42Speaker 1: There's been a long time since I've seen a zero
- 0:45Speaker 1: zero first half.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. But you know, I kind of found
- 0:49Speaker 2: myself agreeing with what Joe Buck said, yeah, which at
- 0:54Speaker 2: halftime where he said, you know there there, Normally you
- 0:57Speaker 2: see zero zero and you think that that hasn't been
- 1:00Speaker 2: a very interesting game. But you have a zero zero
- 1:03Speaker 2: game here and I find it very compelling. And I
- 1:06Speaker 2: did too. I've you know, I'm the guy I like
- 1:09Speaker 2: good defense. Yes, I like you know, my favorite era
- 1:15Speaker 2: of football was the back before.
- 1:20Speaker 3: They changed the rules.
- 1:21Speaker 2: You know, those a lot of those ten to seven
- 1:23Speaker 2: games that the Steelers used to win the old Steel
- 1:26Speaker 2: Curtain and the old Oakland Raiders and the love You
- 1:29Speaker 2: Blue Oilers. I mean, there was a lot of rock
- 1:31Speaker 2: em soccam football back then. It was kind of low scoring,
- 1:34Speaker 2: but I found it pretty exciting. Uh And I kind
- 1:37Speaker 2: of felt that what we saw on Monday and night
- 1:40Speaker 2: was kind of a throwback game in that respect. I
- 1:43Speaker 2: mean it was well, you had, we had two really
- 1:46Speaker 2: good defenses, which you knew going in, uh, and they
- 1:49Speaker 2: were on full display in that game. And I enjoyed
- 1:53Speaker 2: it and certainly enjoyed the outcome. I mean, to see
- 1:57Speaker 2: the Eagles sitting where they are right now seven and two,
- 2:01Speaker 2: They're sitting in a pretty good spot.
- 2:04Speaker 1: You know, Ray's let's start with defense, because what Vic
- 2:08Speaker 1: Fangio did was incredible when you consider you incorporated new
- 2:13Speaker 1: pieces to the equation coming out of the by. You
- 2:17Speaker 1: held the green Bay offense that was averaging almost three
- 2:19Speaker 1: hundred and seventy yards a game to under three hundred yards.
- 2:22Speaker 1: You got three quarterback sacks on Jordan Love. They deployed
- 2:27Speaker 1: a two D two deep safety technique. They stayed with
- 2:30Speaker 1: it the whole game, kept everything in front of them.
- 2:32Speaker 1: They were committed to make sure green Bay could not
- 2:36Speaker 1: get anything deep on them. Although I was surprised that
- 2:40Speaker 1: Green Bay went to the running game as much as
- 2:42Speaker 1: they did, especially in the first half when offenses really
- 2:46Speaker 1: weren't doing much of anything.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yeah, they did run it more than I thought. And
- 2:53Speaker 2: you know, Jacobs and we talked about this last week.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Jacobs had not he was averaging in less than four
- 2:59Speaker 2: yards carry. So they were a team that they hadn't
- 3:02Speaker 2: run the ball all that successfully. I mean, he got
- 3:04Speaker 2: in the end zone, he had some touchdowns, but on
- 3:07Speaker 2: a down to down basis, they weren't dominating on the
- 3:09Speaker 2: ground that much. But they certainly came out with the
- 3:12Speaker 2: idea they were going to run in this one. And
- 3:15Speaker 2: you know, I think maybe it might have been because
- 3:19Speaker 2: sometimes if you're an offense and you know the team's
- 3:22Speaker 2: going to play the two deep safeties and they were
- 3:24Speaker 2: going to play a lot of cover too, one way
- 3:26Speaker 2: and kind of get them out of it is to
- 3:28Speaker 2: run the ball. And if you can run it successfully,
- 3:31Speaker 2: then you make them change and then they start bringing
- 3:33Speaker 2: us safety down and you can create some of the
- 3:35Speaker 2: opportunities down the field. We see that all the time,
- 3:39Speaker 2: and I'm kind of guessing that's what Matt mcfluir was thinking,
- 3:43Speaker 2: But the Eagles run defense, which early in the year
- 3:49Speaker 2: was not that great. We talked about that, it's gotten better,
- 3:53Speaker 2: you know. I mean, if you just look back over
- 3:54Speaker 2: the last I think, like three games early earlier in
- 3:58Speaker 2: the season, they were given up an average of one hundred
- 4:00Speaker 2: and twenty seven yards a game on the ground. In
- 4:04Speaker 2: the last three games, I think, no, I guess with
- 4:08Speaker 2: last two games, not the first Giants game, but since
- 4:11Speaker 2: then it's been.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Like eighty seven.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Like they've knocked that figure down by about forty yards
- 4:15Speaker 2: a game. So they're playing better run defense. And they
- 4:20Speaker 2: didn't give the Packers. I mean, they certainly tried it,
- 4:23Speaker 2: but they didn't. But the Packers didn't have a whole
- 4:25Speaker 2: lot of success running the ball, and they were short
- 4:28Speaker 2: on receivers. There's no question about that. They were missing
- 4:30Speaker 2: some of their receivers, especially Kraft, and the Eagles had
- 4:34Speaker 2: them bottled up pretty much the whole game. And you
- 4:37Speaker 2: said it, I mean, the pressure they were able to
- 4:40Speaker 2: get on Jordan Love really was the difference. I Mean,
- 4:43Speaker 2: he sacked them street times, but they were bothering them
- 4:45Speaker 2: and they were harassing him, and they were hurrying him
- 4:48Speaker 2: pretty much. The whole game, and that was the story.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I mean, the Eagles really had that offense bottled up, you.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Know, right when you look at Fangiel's defense the entire season.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I mean, to be honest, there's no way this team
- 5:02Speaker 1: is seven and two without some of the plays, especially
- 5:05Speaker 1: timely plays this defense has made to bail them out
- 5:08Speaker 1: time and time again along the way. What has impressed
- 5:12Speaker 1: you most about Vick Fangils defense, And for me, it's
- 5:16Speaker 1: been they're not a I don't want to, I can't
- 5:21Speaker 1: call them a stout defense. They're a good defense, They're
- 5:25Speaker 1: not a stout defense, but they're an opportunistic defense, which
- 5:30Speaker 1: has really turned the tides for them in a number
- 5:32Speaker 1: of games this season.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the the things that it stood out
- 5:39Speaker 2: to me is the fact that they.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Have been so good in the red zone. Yep.
- 5:42Speaker 2: You know, teams have, teams have moved the ball on them,
- 5:46Speaker 2: but when they get inside the twenty, the Eagles shut
- 5:50Speaker 2: them down and force them to kick field goals. And
- 5:53Speaker 2: I think that's that's kind of what it's been, and
- 5:55Speaker 2: that's kind of what that's kind of the philosophy that
- 5:58Speaker 2: Vic works under is you know, all you can move
- 6:01Speaker 2: the ball, he gets the first downs, but when you
- 6:04Speaker 2: get inside the twenty, we're not going to you're not
- 6:06Speaker 2: going to get.
- 6:06Speaker 3: In the end zone.
- 6:07Speaker 2: And that's and that has been the case. And you
- 6:11Speaker 2: know that's one of some games. I mean, really, if
- 6:13Speaker 2: you look at their overall statistics, where they rank overall offense,
- 6:17Speaker 2: where they rank overall defense, those numbers don't usually equate
- 6:21Speaker 2: to seven and two. I mean, they're kind of here
- 6:24Speaker 2: because when they're on offense, they've been very good in
- 6:28Speaker 2: the red zone. They've been very good scoring touchdowns, and defensively,
- 6:33Speaker 2: they've been really good about keeping other teams out of
- 6:35Speaker 2: the end zone. In those two critical areas, that's where
- 6:37Speaker 2: they played their best football.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Let's talk about a few of the pieces they've incorporated,
- 6:44Speaker 1: and let's start with my man, Brandy Graham.
- 6:48Speaker 3: We figured, we talked about this.
- 6:50Speaker 1: We figured he was going to play maybe ten fifteen
- 6:52Speaker 1: snaps per game, but no more than that. He played
- 6:57Speaker 1: ten snaps and his maiden voids returning to the Philadelphia
- 7:00Speaker 1: Eagle didn't have much of an impact. But here's here's
- 7:03Speaker 1: where his impact really lies, right being there talking these
- 7:06Speaker 1: young guys through situations, giving them an ear, an extra
- 7:11Speaker 1: ear in a lot of ways. I've said this time
- 7:14Speaker 1: and time again. A lot of times players learn more
- 7:17Speaker 1: from other players than they do coaches or watching film
- 7:21Speaker 1: for that matter.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Absolutely no, no question about that. And that's that's usually
- 7:27Speaker 2: how good teams work, you know. I mean the coaches
- 7:31Speaker 2: and smart coaches know this. That the coaches talk all
- 7:36Speaker 2: the time, and at a certain point, I don't want
- 7:37Speaker 2: to say they tune the coach out, right, good coaches don't.
- 7:42Speaker 2: You don't tune good coaches out. But sometimes you need
- 7:46Speaker 2: that other voice because the coaches will say what coaches
- 7:49Speaker 2: are going to say. But when it's coming from the
- 7:52Speaker 2: guy in the locker next to you, when it's coming
- 7:55Speaker 2: from the twelve year vet across the room, it's coming
- 7:59Speaker 2: from one of those guys that you're actually strapping it
- 8:02Speaker 2: on with every week, it resonates more. And I think that,
- 8:08Speaker 2: you know, I think that's valuable, especially when you have
- 8:10Speaker 2: a team. When you look at this team top to bottom,
- 8:12Speaker 2: this really is a very young team.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Yes, uh.
- 8:15Speaker 2: And it helps to have veteran players who are winners,
- 8:21Speaker 2: who have had success, and our guys that are smart.
- 8:25Speaker 3: And know when to speak and what to say.
- 8:29Speaker 2: And I think the Eagles said I mean, you get
- 8:31Speaker 2: a guy that Clayte Johnson absolutely is like that back
- 8:35Speaker 2: in you know, going back a few years, Brian Dawkins
- 8:37Speaker 2: was absolutely.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Like that, and Brandon Graham.
- 8:42Speaker 2: You know, it probably does it in a little more
- 8:44Speaker 2: cheerful way, but but the fact is he's you know,
- 8:48Speaker 2: he is he is. He is wise in the ways
- 8:51Speaker 2: of football, and he's played more games and more seasons
- 8:54Speaker 2: than anybody has ever worn that uniform. So having him
- 8:57Speaker 2: in the locker room, to me is nothing but a positive.
- 9:00Speaker 1: You know, everybody was hitting the rumor merl hard and
- 9:03Speaker 1: heavy about the Eagles trying to get Miles Garrett from Cleveland,
- 9:06Speaker 1: but kudos to Howie forgetting I think, in a lot
- 9:09Speaker 1: of ways, just a good of choice in Jalen Phillips,
- 9:13Speaker 1: a guy who already knows Fangio's defense. He comes in
- 9:17Speaker 1: his first game as an Eagle, has less than two
- 9:20Speaker 1: weeks to get ready for this game. He plays fifty
- 9:22Speaker 1: three percent of the snaps, he has six tackles, a
- 9:25Speaker 1: tackle for a loss. You know, two quarterback hits man
- 9:31Speaker 1: and and played the run very well in Fangio's scheme
- 9:36Speaker 1: Monday night as well. I have no problems with this addition,
- 9:40Speaker 1: I mean he gives you that that presence off the
- 9:42Speaker 1: edge you didn't have it for. He gives you another
- 9:45Speaker 1: stout body against the run. I think he's a perfect
- 9:48Speaker 1: fit for what this Eagles need, A team needs, uh
- 9:52Speaker 1: in this stretch run.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so. And he made that and that
- 9:56Speaker 2: was pretty obvious in his very first game. I mean,
- 9:59Speaker 2: what what a difference he made. And on the other side,
- 10:03Speaker 2: getting Nolan Smith back to getting getting both of those
- 10:07Speaker 2: guys with that high energy, high motor kind of play
- 10:10Speaker 2: on the edge really made a difference. And you know
- 10:14Speaker 2: when I after they third round pick, I mean third
- 10:19Speaker 2: round pick ain't nothing. I mean third round pick has value. Okay,
- 10:22Speaker 2: so you gave up something to get this guy. But
- 10:24Speaker 2: I thought absolutely was worth a shot. I know his
- 10:28Speaker 2: injury history is everybody knows that at this point.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Everybody knows it.
- 10:32Speaker 2: But you know, I look back at you know, I
- 10:35Speaker 2: remember when he came out in the twenty twenty one draft.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I remember really liking him, and in the time after
- 10:43Speaker 2: they got him, I went back into my file cabinet
- 10:47Speaker 2: here and pulled out my notes from the twenty twenty
- 10:49Speaker 2: one draft. Uh, and in fact, I have him, have
- 10:53Speaker 2: him right here, and I didn't realize that when I
- 10:59Speaker 2: look back at it, I him is the number two
- 11:01Speaker 2: as my number two edge rusher.
- 11:03Speaker 3: In that whole trend.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Wow, And my two, actually my two, my number one
- 11:08Speaker 2: and my number two were both the defensive ends from Miami.
- 11:12Speaker 2: It was Greg Russo and Jalen Phillips for my two
- 11:16Speaker 2: top pass rushers.
- 11:18Speaker 3: I mean, I thought he was that good then.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Now he came to Miami not the best of situations,
- 11:24Speaker 2: had injury issues which.
- 11:26Speaker 3: He had had before. But when he played, he played very.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Well, and interestingly enough, his best football he played the
- 11:33Speaker 2: year he played under Vic Fangio. So that's why I
- 11:36Speaker 2: thought bringing a guy in that has those kinds of
- 11:39Speaker 2: skills and reuniting him with a coach with whom he's
- 11:42Speaker 2: already had a lot of success, to me, made perfect sense.
- 11:47Speaker 2: And you know when you saw, you know, when you
- 11:50Speaker 2: saw his arrival in Philadelphia, when you saw the interview
- 11:53Speaker 2: he did with John Clark down at the airport, when
- 11:55Speaker 2: he as soon as he stepped off the plane, you know,
- 11:58Speaker 2: with Big Damas scorting him for the airport, I mean,
- 12:01Speaker 2: you could see how excited he was to be here
- 12:05Speaker 2: and to be on a team where he has a
- 12:08Speaker 2: very realistic chance to get to a super Bowl, and
- 12:10Speaker 2: he was he was itching to go, and he brought
- 12:13Speaker 2: it all on Monday night.
- 12:15Speaker 1: His exact quote in the locker room was, this is
- 12:19Speaker 1: the greatest day of my life.
- 12:21Speaker 3: And you know, and when you hear that, you go, huh,
- 12:23Speaker 3: this is the greatest day of your life.
- 12:25Speaker 1: And then when you think about it, he was with
- 12:26Speaker 1: the team in Miami that's going nowhere fast and he
- 12:29Speaker 1: comes to the defending Super Bowl champions that right now
- 12:32Speaker 1: has the number one seed in the NFC and it
- 12:35Speaker 1: just to hear him say that, that tells you.
- 12:38Speaker 3: That told you how.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Bad he wanted to get out a jail free cart
- 12:41Speaker 1: from Miami.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, and he played like it, you know.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I mean, we've seen guys come into town and they
- 12:49Speaker 2: say all the right stuff about how excited they are
- 12:51Speaker 2: and blah blah blah, and sometimes it sometimes sometimes it
- 12:55Speaker 2: translates to the field, sometimes it doesn't.
- 12:57Speaker 3: But in this case it absolutely did.
- 13:00Speaker 2: And getting him back, and as they said, Nolan Smith
- 13:02Speaker 2: back and BG for a certain number of snaps really
- 13:07Speaker 2: made that defensive front look a whole lot better than
- 13:11Speaker 2: it was before. And you know, you're that was a
- 13:14Speaker 2: great one on Monday night. But they got to keep
- 13:16Speaker 2: it going. I mean, because they got the Lions and
- 13:19Speaker 2: Jared Goff coming in this week, and then they got
- 13:21Speaker 2: to go down to Dallas and face Dak Prescott the
- 13:24Speaker 2: week after that. The road doesn't get any easier. But
- 13:28Speaker 2: they certainly took care of business on Monday night. And
- 13:31Speaker 2: you know, you look around. I had to look it up.
- 13:34Speaker 3: When's the last time the Eagles scored ten points in
- 13:37Speaker 3: a game? And one?
- 13:39Speaker 2: Well, in two thousand and two, Derek got to go back.
- 13:42Speaker 2: They played the Saint Louis Rams and won a ten
- 13:46Speaker 2: three game at the Old Vet. So that's you don't
- 13:51Speaker 2: win scoring ten points a game very often today's NFL.
- 13:55Speaker 2: But the Eagles were able to do that Monday night.
- 13:57Speaker 2: And hats off to Vic Fangio's defense because they were
- 14:01Speaker 2: the difference in this game.
- 14:02Speaker 1: You know, a lot of times things that players accomplished
- 14:06Speaker 1: are not measured by individual stats. And you know, the
- 14:10Speaker 1: return of Nolan Smith just the presence alone, giving additional
- 14:14Speaker 1: pressure from the edge. He had a couple of tackles,
- 14:17Speaker 1: he had a quarterback sack. They look they used them
- 14:19Speaker 1: on a couple of loops in the game to get
- 14:21Speaker 1: additional pressure on Jordan Love, you know. And here's another thing.
- 14:25Speaker 1: A fresh body had been out for a while with
- 14:27Speaker 1: an injury comes back as an immediate impact in the game.
- 14:31Speaker 1: And a lot of times you don't have to have
- 14:32Speaker 1: an impact every dawn, just significant downs. And I thought
- 14:35Speaker 1: he did that in that game against the Packers.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Yeah, John Ritchie.
- 14:41Speaker 2: I was on with John Ritchie and Joe Decamer earlier
- 14:45Speaker 2: today and Richie made the observation he said, every time
- 14:48Speaker 2: I see as Nolan Smith, his body.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Is parallel to the ground. He's like a missile. He's
- 14:55Speaker 3: like a projectile.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher. And if you have a family
- 14:59Speaker 4: and kids at home, like me, you always want them

- 16:04Speaker 4: com slash bird. That's simply safe dot com slash bird.
- 16:09Speaker 3: That's pretty good description because that is how he plays,
- 16:12Speaker 3: and he did. He was around a lot. He was
- 16:16Speaker 3: very active.
- 16:17Speaker 2: And all of a sudden, Now, I mean, the Eagles
- 16:20Speaker 2: have a lot of healthy bodies on the TV's line,
- 16:23Speaker 2: and they have a tremendous amount of depth and guys
- 16:26Speaker 2: who can come in and get pressure on the quarterback.
- 16:29Speaker 2: And you know, sometimes sometimes I don't want to say
- 16:32Speaker 2: sacks sex are overrated. I don't want to say that,
- 16:36Speaker 2: but the raw sack number can sometimes be a little misleading.
- 16:40Speaker 2: You get a couple of sacks, okay, But what's more
- 16:42Speaker 2: important is that, in addition to that, that you have
- 16:46Speaker 2: constant pressure, that you.
- 16:48Speaker 3: You're always bothering the quarterback.
- 16:50Speaker 2: You're moving them off the spot, you're hurrying him, you're
- 16:53Speaker 2: not allowing him to see the whole field. You're making
- 16:55Speaker 2: them get rid of the bulk a little quicker than
- 16:56Speaker 2: he wants to. And that's what the Eagle did to
- 16:59Speaker 2: Jordan Love on my night. I mean, he it looked
- 17:02Speaker 2: to me dark. I don't think he was ever comfortable
- 17:04Speaker 2: in the pocket. I mean it looked like right from
- 17:06Speaker 2: the first looked like right from the first series that
- 17:09Speaker 2: he felt hurried, he felt rushed. And when you sometimes
- 17:13Speaker 2: when you saw the whole field, it went back and
- 17:15Speaker 2: you looked at the at the whole, at the all
- 17:17Speaker 2: what they call.
- 17:17Speaker 3: The all twenty two.
- 17:19Speaker 2: I mean he had some receivers open, I mean, he
- 17:22Speaker 2: had some opportunities, but he just didn't have the time
- 17:25Speaker 2: to either find them, see them, or get them the
- 17:28Speaker 2: ball U And that was just because the pressure. The
- 17:31Speaker 2: pressure was there on every snap. And then he started
- 17:34Speaker 2: thinking about it and it sped up his whole game
- 17:36Speaker 2: and sped up his decision making, and ultimately he was
- 17:39Speaker 2: never in the kind of groove that we have seen
- 17:41Speaker 2: Jordan Love when he gets when he's comfortable and he
- 17:44Speaker 2: starts getting in a real rhythm in the passing game. Yeah,
- 17:48Speaker 2: he's very good, but the Eagles never let him get
- 17:51Speaker 2: there on Monday Night, and that was really in the end.
- 17:52Speaker 3: What's the difference.
- 17:54Speaker 1: You can't put a price on what Nikobe Deane means
- 17:57Speaker 1: to the middle of his defense right eckles a quarterback sect,
- 18:02Speaker 1: but his pursuit to the ball, his ability to blow
- 18:06Speaker 1: up plays in the middle at the line of scrimmage.
- 18:08Speaker 1: You know, he's not the biggest inside backer in there,
- 18:11Speaker 1: but I'll tell you what, I don't know of many
- 18:13Speaker 1: any tougher than he is. You know what a difference
- 18:17Speaker 1: he makes in terms of taking away the middle, because
- 18:20Speaker 1: a lot of teams were gouging the Eagles early on
- 18:22Speaker 1: with middle runs and you know he's taken away then.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I mean sometimes he's taken on two blockers at one
- 18:29Speaker 1: time in stonewall and which disrupted disrupts the opponent's running play.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Yeah, he does, and getting him back has has really helped.
- 18:37Speaker 2: It has really really helped. He is he's a really
- 18:41Speaker 2: good he's a really good tackler, really good open field tackler,
- 18:45Speaker 2: extremely quick, uh And I mean part of we were
- 18:50Speaker 2: just talking a minute ago about how the Eagles run
- 18:52Speaker 2: defense has improved a lot lately. I mean from the
- 18:56Speaker 2: ortage they were given up earlier in the season to
- 18:59Speaker 2: what they're giving up. And one of the big differences
- 19:02Speaker 2: is having the Kobe Dean back on the field. He
- 19:04Speaker 2: really makes that run defense better. And one of the
- 19:06Speaker 2: things that was interesting about Monday's game was how often
- 19:10Speaker 2: Vic used him as a blitzer yep, and how effectively.
- 19:13Speaker 2: I mean, there are a lot of times that yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 2: you're getting that pressure off the edge, which was good
- 19:17Speaker 2: to see, but a lot of times there's a little
- 19:19Speaker 2: bit of a Sometimes you see a delayed blitz or
- 19:21Speaker 2: just your basic a gap blitz where he would send
- 19:24Speaker 2: the Kobe Dean up the middle and get real pressure
- 19:26Speaker 2: on the quarterback. And you know, we all always talk that,
- 19:29Speaker 2: you know, Vic doesn't want to blitz, he doesn't want
- 19:31Speaker 2: to take a lot of chances, which is true. But
- 19:34Speaker 2: when he picks his sponsor, when he sees an opportunity
- 19:37Speaker 2: to get extra pressure on the quarterback, he'll do it.
- 19:40Speaker 3: And Dean going back to.
- 19:42Speaker 2: His days at Georgia, not that he was a full time,
- 19:45Speaker 2: all out LT kind of pass.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Rusher, because he's not. That's not his game.
- 19:48Speaker 2: But when you use him as a blitzer selectively, he
- 19:51Speaker 2: can be very effective and he was effective again on
- 19:53Speaker 2: Monday night.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Can you explain to me what we saw in terms
- 19:58Speaker 1: of an offensive this play on Monday night. Now, let's
- 20:01Speaker 1: give credit where credit is due. As you mentioned off
- 20:04Speaker 1: the top of This Bird's Weekly podcast, Green Bay has
- 20:07Speaker 1: a very good defense, the very young defense. As a
- 20:09Speaker 1: matter of fact, they have the youngest defense and the
- 20:13Speaker 1: youngest team. Correction, not the youngest defense, but the youngest
- 20:16Speaker 1: team in the National Football League. A lot of youth
- 20:18Speaker 1: on their defense, just like the Eagles. Due but the
- 20:22Speaker 1: Eagles coming out of that bye week well rested with
- 20:25Speaker 1: a veteran offense that can put up points in a
- 20:28Speaker 1: blink of an eye. They could hardly get anything going
- 20:31Speaker 1: against this Packers defense. And it's some of the things
- 20:34Speaker 1: that we we've talked about all season long, the mental mistakes,
- 20:40Speaker 1: the miss blocks, the holes not being there for Saquon
- 20:44Speaker 1: and the running back crew, Jalen missing open receivers. It's
- 20:50Speaker 1: like the offense has reversed instead of progressed in some ways.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that's we were all asking that question after the
- 21:03Speaker 2: last Giants game. Yeah, and when they ran for two
- 21:06Speaker 2: hundred and seventy yards and offensively they were really clicking.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Okay after they buy when they come back. Is this
- 21:12Speaker 2: the offense we're going to see moving forward? And you know,
- 21:16Speaker 2: to me, this was going to be a really big
- 21:18Speaker 2: test because the Green Bay defense is very good. I
- 21:21Speaker 2: mean they're fifth overall, they're fifth against the run, there's
- 21:27Speaker 2: sixth on third down. They were eighth or ninth against
- 21:31Speaker 2: the pass. I mean, there's no if you look at
- 21:33Speaker 2: that defense up and down and you try and say, okay,
- 21:36Speaker 2: there's a weakness here, there's a weakness there, don't really
- 21:40Speaker 2: have one. They are young, they are fast, and they
- 21:43Speaker 2: are physical and they can really cover on the back end.
- 21:47Speaker 2: So what Jalen Hurts said in his press conference last
- 21:52Speaker 2: week going into the game, going into the game, after
- 21:55Speaker 2: having studied the tape on them, he said, on numerous occasions,
- 22:00Speaker 2: this is a very good defense and they give you nothing,
- 22:03Speaker 2: and they're going to be a real challenge. And that
- 22:06Speaker 2: wasn't just lip service. I mean what he said, that
- 22:09Speaker 2: was what he saw, and that was what he faced
- 22:11Speaker 2: on Monday night. They were a real challenge and the
- 22:14Speaker 2: Eagles up front didn't do a particularly good job, and.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Herts was having trouble finding receivers a.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Lot, and there didn't seem to be once again, they
- 22:27Speaker 2: were kind of back to what they were earlier in
- 22:29Speaker 2: the season, which was having an offense that it would
- 22:30Speaker 2: hit a play here and hit a play there, but
- 22:33Speaker 2: didn't establish any kind of real flow or continuity.
- 22:36Speaker 3: And some of that was.
- 22:37Speaker 2: On them, but also some of it you got to
- 22:39Speaker 2: give some credit to the Grand Bay defense, because I
- 22:41Speaker 2: do think they're that good.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 22:47Speaker 4: long lines, We've all been there, But when it comes

- 23:38Speaker 4: and an experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
- 23:42Speaker 1: You know, we were wondering after the Giants game, is
- 23:45Speaker 1: the run game finally back? If they put up two
- 23:47Speaker 1: seventy six on the Giants, And I guess as we
- 23:50Speaker 1: sit here for this podcast, we can say no, it's
- 23:54Speaker 1: not back. I mean, they ran up and down the
- 23:57Speaker 1: field on a very much inferior opponent in the GIS,
- 24:00Speaker 1: but against better competition they cannot impose their will. Now, overall,
- 24:04Speaker 1: they ran for one hundred and eleven yards, but Saqua
- 24:06Speaker 1: twenty two carries in only sixty yards rushing. His best
- 24:11Speaker 1: player of the night was the forty one yard pass reception.
- 24:14Speaker 1: We put this spin move together and I'm at a
- 24:16Speaker 1: point now, Ray when you think about some of the
- 24:18Speaker 1: defenses they're about to face. Detroit's defense is no slouch.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Chicago's defense has played well, you know, in Buffalo's defense
- 24:27Speaker 1: is not a bad defense as well. I'm inclined to
- 24:29Speaker 1: get the saquad get Saquona ball in open space on
- 24:32Speaker 1: the swing pass, screen pass, middle screen, wheel route as
- 24:36Speaker 1: much as I am in terms of giving him the
- 24:38Speaker 1: ball in the backfield.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Now, yeah, I think so too. The little.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Flat pass, the forty one yard or was maybe the
- 24:50Speaker 2: biggest play in the game, you know, I mean, that's
- 24:52Speaker 2: you needed something like that, And I think the Eagles
- 24:56Speaker 2: came to the conclusion they weren't on to get it
- 24:58Speaker 2: in the running game because it just in there. So
- 25:01Speaker 2: they created it in the passing game, and you know,
- 25:04Speaker 2: that forty one yarder gets them down into a position
- 25:07Speaker 2: where they on the next play they hit the bomb
- 25:08Speaker 2: the smith and they finally get it in.
- 25:10Speaker 3: The end zone.
- 25:11Speaker 2: But you know, one of the interesting things about sake
- 25:14Speaker 2: this season for Barkley compared to last season is it's
- 25:19Speaker 2: kind of the reverse in the sense that if you
- 25:23Speaker 2: looked at Barkley last year, I mean, we all know
- 25:26Speaker 2: two thousand yards and all the things he accomplished. One
- 25:29Speaker 2: of the there was a pattern that was very consistent
- 25:31Speaker 2: from week to week was he was his yardage. He
- 25:36Speaker 2: got more yardage as the game went along. You know,
- 25:39Speaker 2: I meant, his best quarters in terms of running the
- 25:42Speaker 2: ball were it got he started out one, it got
- 25:46Speaker 2: better into then second half, third.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Quarter was good, and then the fourth quarter was his best.
- 25:51Speaker 2: You know, his his running the running game got better
- 25:54Speaker 2: as the game went along, and this year it's been
- 25:57Speaker 2: the opposite, you know, and this year his quarter running
- 26:01Speaker 2: the ball is the first quarter, and that was true
- 26:02Speaker 2: in this game too. I think he had like six
- 26:05Speaker 2: carries for twenty eight yards in the first quarter, which
- 26:08Speaker 2: isn't great, it's pretty good, but then from that point
- 26:11Speaker 2: on he barely averaged two yards to carry. So it's
- 26:14Speaker 2: kind of the reverse of what we saw last year.
- 26:17Speaker 2: And obviously on a week to week basis nowhere near
- 26:20Speaker 2: as productive as it was a year ago. And you
- 26:24Speaker 2: know some of that, I mean the offense. The offense
- 26:27Speaker 2: is it's sputtering, you know. I mean the Giants game
- 26:32Speaker 2: was that was the exception. What we saw on Monday
- 26:35Speaker 2: night has been the rule. And you know that's the
- 26:38Speaker 2: one area moving forward now that worries you a little bit,
- 26:42Speaker 2: is that the offense from week to week. It can
- 26:44Speaker 2: be really good at times, but there are other times
- 26:47Speaker 2: when again, this was a game where we have what
- 26:50Speaker 2: three to three an ounce, they had a couple of
- 26:53Speaker 2: four and outs, and you're just they don't have that
- 26:57Speaker 2: kind of four quarter annuity of offensive dominance that we
- 27:02Speaker 2: saw routinely last year. And that's one of the things
- 27:05Speaker 2: that if they really are going to take this thing
- 27:08Speaker 2: all the way and get back to the championship game,
- 27:10Speaker 2: they're going to have to be.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Better at that.
- 27:12Speaker 2: And one of the things that I think they have
- 27:13Speaker 2: to do, Derek, is they it bothers. They commit too
- 27:17Speaker 2: many penalties.
- 27:18Speaker 3: They just do.
- 27:19Speaker 2: I mean, they're in terms of penalty yardage per game,
- 27:23Speaker 2: the Eagles are one of the worst in the league.
- 27:25Speaker 2: I mean, there are only five teams in the league
- 27:27Speaker 2: that give up more yards per game via a penalty,
- 27:31Speaker 2: and a lot of that, you know, it takes away
- 27:34Speaker 2: some big positive games. I mean, one of Barkley's best
- 27:36Speaker 2: runs was wiped out by a Toth, by a Brett
- 27:39Speaker 2: Poth Brett Toth penalty.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Yeah, uh, and a lot.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Of times and look how many times and I wrote
- 27:46Speaker 2: this down, I mean third and eleven, third and twelve,
- 27:49Speaker 2: third and fourteen, third and fifteen.
- 27:51Speaker 3: You know, you're not. Nobody's going to.
- 27:52Speaker 2: Convert a whole lot of those situations, but because of
- 27:56Speaker 2: some poor execution at times, but also just some dumb
- 27:59Speaker 2: penal put him in those situations. That really really does
- 28:03Speaker 2: sort of handcuff the offense.
- 28:05Speaker 1: I think it's clearcut that Devanta Smith is the number
- 28:07Speaker 1: one receiver on this team right now. I mean he
- 28:10Speaker 1: had four catches for what sixty sixty nine yards and
- 28:13Speaker 1: a touchdown, beautiful thirty six yard snag for a score.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I just every week, Ray, I'm just so impressed with
- 28:22Speaker 1: his route running ability, his route running in terms of
- 28:25Speaker 1: deceiving a defensive back. You don't see him drop pass
- 28:31Speaker 1: as for a guy as rail thin as he is,
- 28:33Speaker 1: he doesn't drop passes. He goes up and wins the
- 28:36Speaker 1: majority of his contested passes. He is everything you want
- 28:40Speaker 1: in terms of that sure handed, go to guy who's
- 28:43Speaker 1: not afraid to take the big hit and will constantly
- 28:46Speaker 1: make the big play for you.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Yeah, he does week after week after week. You're right,
- 28:52Speaker 2: he is so good at the top of the route.
- 28:57Speaker 2: You know when he gets up to the route, when
- 28:59Speaker 2: he when he makes that break. Whether he's coming whether
- 29:02Speaker 2: he's taking it across the middle, or whether he's coming
- 29:04Speaker 2: back to the quarterback at the point at the top
- 29:06Speaker 2: of the route, he always gets separation and if the
- 29:10Speaker 2: ball is delivered on time, I mean, he will always
- 29:13Speaker 2: make the catch. And the touchdown catch, of course, is
- 29:17Speaker 2: the big one. That's what everybody remembers, and it was
- 29:19Speaker 2: was a great catch. You know, he uses his body
- 29:22Speaker 2: so well. I mean the way he gets up and
- 29:24Speaker 2: the way he turns his body and gets in between
- 29:26Speaker 2: the defender and the ball. He does that all the time.
- 29:29Speaker 2: He does that as good as anybody, I think. But
- 29:33Speaker 2: the other stuff, the out routes and things like that,
- 29:35Speaker 2: the possession catches, I mean, he gets you those week
- 29:38Speaker 2: after week after week. And you know, the fifteen sixteen
- 29:43Speaker 2: yard catch that he made on third and twelve late
- 29:45Speaker 2: in the game allowed you to extend that possession and was.
- 29:48Speaker 3: A very big play in the game.
- 29:50Speaker 2: And there were a couple of other times when he
- 29:52Speaker 2: ran a great route, a couple of outs where he
- 29:56Speaker 2: had the separation and hurts just under throw the ball,
- 29:59Speaker 2: but he was there he could have made the catch.
- 30:01Speaker 2: So yeah, on a night when yards and points were
- 30:05Speaker 2: hard to come by and you had to fight for
- 30:08Speaker 2: every every bloody inch you know, And that's what this
- 30:11Speaker 2: game was. I mean, time after time when you needed
- 30:14Speaker 2: a big play, he came.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Up with it.
- 30:15Speaker 1: You know. Now for the other guy who wants to
- 30:17Speaker 1: be more involved in the offense, AJ Brown and Ray,
- 30:20Speaker 1: I'm starting to feel his frustration. I mean, two catches
- 30:23Speaker 1: thirteen yards now. To his credit, after the game, he
- 30:25Speaker 1: stood at his locker, answered all the questions and the
- 30:28Speaker 1: one thing he said it was Green Bay did a
- 30:30Speaker 1: good job of taking me out of the game. But
- 30:32Speaker 1: for the life of me, ring for receiver that de Sighes,
- 30:35Speaker 1: who's bigger than most dbs, he will face the fact
- 30:38Speaker 1: that they don't use him more in the slant routes.
- 30:40Speaker 1: I mean, that's his bread and butterplay, the fact that
- 30:42Speaker 1: they don't use him more in the slant routes. Because
- 30:44Speaker 1: even if a d becomes the first of all, he
- 30:47Speaker 1: commands the utmost respect from DB's because they're playing seven
- 30:50Speaker 1: to ten yards off of him. More times than not,
- 30:52Speaker 1: he sticks his foot in the ground. He's got the
- 30:54Speaker 1: battle one right there, because if dB comes up, he's
- 30:58Speaker 1: either gonna make the catch or it's going to be
- 31:00Speaker 1: past interference. He can win that battle all day, every game,
- 31:03Speaker 1: but they they've got no I don't know what Kevin
- 31:06Speaker 1: Patula is thinking in terms of why when other elements
- 31:09Speaker 1: of your game are stagnant, why don't you go to
- 31:11Speaker 1: your short play.
- 31:12Speaker 3: That's a short money play. Then a lot of teams
- 31:14Speaker 3: don't convert in the National Football League. It does seem
- 31:17Speaker 3: that way.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Uh. And yeah, his his frustration is palpable and and
- 31:24Speaker 2: kind of understandable because there's no real reason why a
- 31:28Speaker 2: guy with his talent should have finished a game with
- 31:31Speaker 2: two catches for seven yards. I mean, that's something that
- 31:35Speaker 2: they have to address, and not for the reasons of
- 31:38Speaker 2: keeping him happy and not for the reasons of just
- 31:41Speaker 2: getting him off social media and and any.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Of that kind of stuff. It does make sense is
- 31:47Speaker 3: to get him the ball more.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Uh. And you know, you see the way teams cover him,
- 31:52Speaker 2: and you just said that the cushion they give him,
- 31:54Speaker 2: I understand that if you try to press this guy,
- 31:58Speaker 2: if you try to jam him and he's too big
- 32:00Speaker 2: and strong, yes, I mean so teams will just try
- 32:03Speaker 2: to keep him in front of you. So to me,
- 32:05Speaker 2: that six seven yard area it's there, you know, and
- 32:10Speaker 2: take advantage of it, you know, get him the hitch route,
- 32:13Speaker 2: get him the ball, and let him get yards after the.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Catch, which we know he can do.
- 32:18Speaker 2: I really kind of thought when the Eagles made this
- 32:25Speaker 2: sort of philosophical change about putting the quarterback more under center,
- 32:28Speaker 2: which I think I do think has helped.
- 32:31Speaker 3: One of the things that does is.
- 32:32Speaker 2: It creates the opportunity for more play action passes, and
- 32:35Speaker 2: a play action pass, which is will create a timing
- 32:39Speaker 2: element in the offense is made to throw those kinds. Yeah,
- 32:44Speaker 2: it's made to hit big plays down the field, but
- 32:46Speaker 2: it also will get you the slant coming across the middle,
- 32:50Speaker 2: and if you execute the fake properly, it'll get the
- 32:54Speaker 2: linebackers out of play and open that middle of the
- 32:56Speaker 2: field up. And so I kind of thought, when they
- 32:59Speaker 2: begin and we're writing more of the quarterback under center
- 33:03Speaker 2: play action stuff into the offense, that that was one
- 33:07Speaker 2: really good way to get the ball to aj and
- 33:10Speaker 2: to give him the kinds of opportunities to be the
- 33:13Speaker 2: playmaker that he was earlier in his career. Here, I
- 33:17Speaker 2: still think that's there. I still think they can do that, yes,
- 33:20Speaker 2: but they just haven't gone to it yet. Now, maybe
- 33:24Speaker 2: some of It just had to do with what Hurts
- 33:26Speaker 2: was talking about was the fact that the Green Bay
- 33:28Speaker 2: defense is really good, and I do think that they
- 33:31Speaker 2: made it difficult to get the ball to AJ. But
- 33:33Speaker 2: moving forward, you know, we're you know, we're getting into
- 33:37Speaker 2: that stretch run now, and you're going to have to
- 33:40Speaker 2: start seeing the full dimension of your offense and the
- 33:44Speaker 2: things that you Okay, there are certain things we establish,
- 33:46Speaker 2: there's certain things we can do, and there's certain things
- 33:48Speaker 2: that seem to be in place that's good, but there
- 33:51Speaker 2: are some other things that we need to develop and
- 33:53Speaker 2: get better at, and one of them is getting the
- 33:55Speaker 2: ball to number eleven.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Can can you explain to me what in the world
- 33:59Speaker 1: was Nick Sirianni thinking on that late drive. All you
- 34:03Speaker 1: have to do is run the ball. Run the ball,
- 34:05Speaker 1: even if you don't get the first down, run the ball,
- 34:07Speaker 1: keep the clock moving. He throws two passes incomplete stops
- 34:10Speaker 1: the clock, and then he goes deep to AJ and
- 34:15Speaker 1: it incomplete stops the clock. And was thinking, if you
- 34:19Speaker 1: run the football, even if you don't get the first down,
- 34:22Speaker 1: green and pushed punted down the field, green Bay has
- 34:26Speaker 1: less than what ten twelve seconds to try to do
- 34:28Speaker 1: anything but Lauren beer Hall, you played right into their
- 34:32Speaker 1: hands and gave him an opportunity, moved the ball in field.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Of course, they you know mcmahonus schanks a sixty four
- 34:37Speaker 1: yard field goal try. But why would you why would
- 34:40Speaker 1: you put your team in that situation, especially in a
- 34:42Speaker 1: three point game?
- 34:43Speaker 3: Now he's set in his press.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Conference he was thinking in terms of getting a little
- 34:47Speaker 1: bit closer to get get three points and force Green
- 34:50Speaker 1: Bay to score a touchdown. But okay, but it worked
- 34:53Speaker 1: in your favor, your genius. And I don't know if
- 34:55Speaker 1: the analytics call for for what you did for those
- 34:58Speaker 1: series of downs, but man, that could have blown up
- 35:01Speaker 1: in your face big time.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought the same thing.
- 35:04Speaker 2: You know, everybody focused on the the go route to
- 35:08Speaker 2: AJ You know that that that last play, everybody kind
- 35:11Speaker 2: of focused on that, And what in the world was
- 35:13Speaker 2: he thinking?
- 35:14Speaker 3: Yes, of course we were all thinking that.
- 35:17Speaker 2: But before that, on the previous possession, You're right, I mean,
- 35:21Speaker 2: he throws the ball, throws two incomplete passes, it stops
- 35:24Speaker 2: the clock. There after you've had Barkley run, Barkley run,
- 35:28Speaker 2: Barkley run, Barkley runs for a first down. You had
- 35:31Speaker 2: like a third and two and Barkley gets you four
- 35:35Speaker 2: and keeps the clock running.
- 35:37Speaker 3: And at that point after well, this game is sold
- 35:38Speaker 3: it away.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Now you know the Eagles that they got that, they
- 35:41Speaker 2: got the clock moving, they got the first down, and
- 35:44Speaker 2: just run it out, make Green Bay use up all
- 35:46Speaker 2: their timeouts, and and you you just take you just
- 35:49Speaker 2: take this thing and put it, tuck itut in your
- 35:51Speaker 2: pocket and go home. And then all of a sudden,
- 35:55Speaker 2: incomplete pass, incomplete pass, and then he punt the ball away.
- 35:58Speaker 3: What was that? You know?
- 36:00Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, the long pass, the fourth down, decision
- 36:04Speaker 2: to go for it and fourth down and he throw
- 36:05Speaker 2: that low percentage ball down the field. I mean that
- 36:08Speaker 2: was I still don't I mean, I've heard next explanation
- 36:12Speaker 2: for it still makes no sense to me.
- 36:14Speaker 3: It really doesn't.
- 36:16Speaker 2: But nobody was talking about the previous possession where you
- 36:20Speaker 2: got the clock running, you're running the ball, you just
- 36:22Speaker 2: run for a first down, and now you're going to
- 36:24Speaker 2: throw two passes and incomplete stop the clock.
- 36:27Speaker 3: The clock management there in the play calling there is
- 36:31Speaker 3: I can't.
- 36:32Speaker 2: I can't explain it.
- 36:34Speaker 3: It was.
- 36:36Speaker 2: I mean it was look give him credit, like, give
- 36:39Speaker 2: him credit for winning the game. Okay, it's it's hard
- 36:42Speaker 2: to you know. You look Derek, I mean you look
- 36:46Speaker 2: at his numbers. I mean the number of games that
- 36:50Speaker 2: he's won, I mean his winning percentage. You know the
- 36:53Speaker 2: fact that this year, if you look at.
- 36:56Speaker 3: This year, they they have gone into Arrowhead and beaten
- 36:59Speaker 3: the Chiefs.
- 37:00Speaker 2: They went down to Tampa, which is not an easy
- 37:02Speaker 2: place to play, and they beat Bucks. Here, you go
- 37:04Speaker 2: to Lambeau and you beat a good packer team. I mean,
- 37:08Speaker 2: those are three tough places to play and they went
- 37:11Speaker 2: in all three of them and one and listen, you
- 37:14Speaker 2: gotta give you got You gotta give them all the
- 37:16Speaker 2: credit in the world for being three and oh in
- 37:19Speaker 2: those three venues that ain't easy to do.
- 37:21Speaker 3: And I give them, I give them all the credit
- 37:23Speaker 3: in the world for doing that.
- 37:25Speaker 2: But but the situations we're talking about the what they
- 37:29Speaker 2: were there for the situation football.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm
- 37:33Speaker 4: not always in the mood to drink. And that's why

- 39:00Speaker 2: I mean, sometimes he still makes decisions that just are
- 39:04Speaker 2: baffling to me. And that decision on the fourth down
- 39:07Speaker 2: to go for it and not punt and make them
- 39:09Speaker 2: play the long field, but to throw it pass and
- 39:11Speaker 2: give them the ball at the thirty six yard line,
- 39:14Speaker 2: to me, it made no sense.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Now I want to let you in on a little secret.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Now I want to hear your response to this. Okay,
- 39:21Speaker 1: So after the game, DeVante Smith was asked about that play.
- 39:24Speaker 1: He said, number one and number eleven call that play
- 39:27Speaker 1: and what they want they get and we just roll
- 39:29Speaker 1: with it. And then I dug a little bit deeper
- 39:31Speaker 1: and found out that particular play was supposed to be
- 39:34Speaker 1: a slant route which was wide open, but Jalen and
- 39:39Speaker 1: aj supposedly change the play. And if you remember, after
- 39:44Speaker 1: that play, they get a Nico shot of Sirianni on
- 39:47Speaker 1: the sideline screaming.
- 39:49Speaker 3: Why why why, And it goes back.
- 39:53Speaker 1: To Jalen being indecisive at times and making I don't
- 39:58Speaker 1: want to say more wrong decisions then right, because you
- 40:01Speaker 1: know there are times when he makes the perfect decision,
- 40:03Speaker 1: whether he has the run of football or hits the
- 40:05Speaker 1: right right, right, receiver is numbers are not going to
- 40:09Speaker 1: be gaudy numbers, but they're effective numbers in a lot
- 40:11Speaker 1: of ways. But in that particular instance, if a play
- 40:15Speaker 1: was called and those two changes in the huddle, we
- 40:18Speaker 1: might have a problem down.
- 40:19Speaker 2: The road, right, I agree, I agree. If that's how
- 40:26Speaker 2: it really went down. Uh, And it's like a spur
- 40:29Speaker 2: in the moment in the huddle adjustment that's made.
- 40:32Speaker 3: It's not good. You know it's not good.
- 40:35Speaker 2: But I mean, but to dial it back even more,
- 40:40Speaker 2: just the decision to go for it on down is
- 40:44Speaker 2: to me nutty. I mean, just let's let's what happens
- 40:48Speaker 2: in the huddle and the adjustment that that's another discussion,
- 40:51Speaker 2: but just the basic point of that situation.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Time on the clock, You got the ball, for it down.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Your defense has been playing their fannies off this whole game.
- 41:02Speaker 3: Good, let's punt.
- 41:04Speaker 2: It down there, let's pooch it down there, get it
- 41:06Speaker 2: inside the fifteen, get it around the ten or whatever,
- 41:09Speaker 2: and make them with no timeouts, just try to drive
- 41:12Speaker 2: the length of the field.
- 41:13Speaker 3: It's that's the that's.
- 41:16Speaker 2: The easy part of it. But once you make a decision, okay,
- 41:20Speaker 2: then we're going to go for it. And now you're
- 41:21Speaker 2: in a discussion of Okay, we could run this or
- 41:23Speaker 2: we could run this. You shouldn't be running anything. You
- 41:26Speaker 2: just do the smart thing, do the.
- 41:28Speaker 3: Easy, simple thing, do the percentage thing, you know.
- 41:32Speaker 2: I mean, somebody was saying, was this a decision an
- 41:34Speaker 2: analytics driven decision?
- 41:36Speaker 3: Is analytics? No analytics? I don't.
- 41:40Speaker 2: I don't agree with the whole lot of analytics, but
- 41:41Speaker 2: even analytics doesn't come up with something that's stupid. And
- 41:44Speaker 2: that's in that situation. The just you know, I hate
- 41:48Speaker 2: to sound like mister old school football. I hate to
- 41:51Speaker 2: sound like, you know, Chuck Knox or Marty Schottenheim or something,
- 41:54Speaker 2: but in that situation, just punt the ball. On a
- 41:56Speaker 2: night when your defense is totally dominating the game, just
- 42:00Speaker 2: hump the ball and make them play the long field.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I mean, I mean, it might seem like that's out
- 42:05Speaker 2: of an old school textbook, but sometimes the old school
- 42:08Speaker 2: textbook is what wins games for you.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Well, here we sit ray perplexed at the play calling
- 42:13Speaker 1: and decision making in this game, and yet we're just
- 42:16Speaker 1: as perplexed and how this team has arrived at a
- 42:19Speaker 1: seven or two record at this point in leading the
- 42:22Speaker 1: NFC as the number one seed as we sit here
- 42:24Speaker 1: right now.
- 42:25Speaker 3: But up next is.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Another formidable opponent in the Detroit Lions. And I'm to
- 42:30Speaker 1: tell you something, they ain't scored ten points of winning
- 42:32Speaker 1: that game against Detroit. I don't care if it is
- 42:34Speaker 1: a Lincoln Financial Field, but until that game is played
- 42:38Speaker 1: for Ray Dandrum Derek Gun, we will be brought right
- 42:41Speaker 1: back here after the Eagles take on the high power
- 42:44Speaker 1: Detroit Lions the Lincoln Financial Field. So until then, so long, everybody,
