  Speaker 1: an era. There had not been much drama around the

  Speaker 1: Monday Night War in a while by that point, but
• 1:06
  Speaker 1: it didn't make it any less shocking that of all
• 1:09
  Speaker 1: people to buy the company, it was Vince McMahon. And
• 1:12
  Speaker 1: then the following Monday was the famous Raw Nitro simulcast
• 1:16
  Speaker 1: where Vince opened the show and he let all the
• 1:19
  Speaker 1: w CW fans know that their fate was now in
• 1:21
  Speaker 1: his hands. And then Shane McMahon walked out during that
• 1:25
  Speaker 1: spring break Nitro in Panama City and he announced that
• 1:29
  Speaker 1: he now owned WCW. Shane McMahon the new owner of WCW,
• 1:34
  Speaker 1: Stephanie McMahon as the owner of ECW. What a time
• 1:39
  Speaker 1: to be alive. And the wrestling business has not been
• 1:42
  Speaker 1: the same since. They have tried many times over the
• 1:46
  Speaker 1: years through the brand split, to try to recreate that
• 1:49
  Speaker 1: feeling of WWF versus WCW Raw versus Nitro, but they
• 1:54
  Speaker 1: have failed every single time because you just can't do it.

  Speaker 1: Even with AW now is their biggest competitor, it is
• 2:00
  Speaker 1: hardly a fair fight. I mean, WWE is just too
• 2:03
  Speaker 1: big to ever convincingly lose a war to anyone else.

  Speaker 1: Plus all the guaranteed money they have coming in through

  Speaker 1: their media rights deals. You know, it was that competition

  Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety six, in nineteen ninety seven that knocked

  Speaker 1: them back on their heels and forced them to change creatively.

  Speaker 1: You know, their backs were against the wall. They were

  Speaker 1: near bankruptcy at one point in ninety seven until they

  Speaker 1: expanded all of their pay per views from two hours

  Speaker 1: to three. Just like WCW had done. They followed their

  Speaker 1: lead and they jacked up the price, I think by

  Speaker 1: five dollars per show. That got them out of the

  Speaker 1: hole that they were in. And then Vince told Brett Hard, Hey,

  Speaker 1: I could afford to pay you now, but it was
• 2:42
  Speaker 1: too late. Brett had already signed with WCW. But it
• 2:45
  Speaker 1: was that competition. It was putting the TV on and
• 2:48
  Speaker 1: flipping back and forth between the two shows and not
• 2:51
  Speaker 1: knowing who might show up and where and when, or
• 2:54
  Speaker 1: again who was going to jump ship. It was sting
• 2:58
  Speaker 1: chasing the nWo. It was Gold getting hot. It was

  Speaker 1: all the cruiserweights and all the smaller guys getting exposure
• 3:05
  Speaker 1: on TNT and TBS, and even when WCW had no

  Speaker 1: idea what to do with them, they at least had
• 3:10
  Speaker 1: a platform to get over and then they made the

  Speaker 1: jump to become even bigger stars. It was the best

  Speaker 1: time to be a fan, it really was. The quality

  Speaker 1: of the end ring may be better now than it

  Speaker 1: was then, but there was something about wrestling them and

  Speaker 1: the intensity of it that we just we don't have

  Speaker 1: that today, And it's not that wrestling is bad now.

  Speaker 1: what it used to be. Back then, it was simpler times.

  Speaker 1: show itself, not all of these other ancillary things that

  Speaker 1: eat up so much time where it's almost more about

  Speaker 1: the entrance now and the time it takes for someone

  Speaker 1: to come to the ring than it is what they

  Speaker 1: actually do once they're in the ring. You know, back then,

  Speaker 1: when the two companies were competing every Monday, you couldn't

  Speaker 1: waste time on shit like that because you didn't want

  Speaker 1: to give up any ground to the other show. You

  Speaker 1: had to keep the action going. If one show started

  Speaker 1: at eight pm, you know, to try to get the

  Speaker 1: jump on him, the other one would start three minutes earlier.

  Speaker 1: I mean, really petty shit. But the real winners were

  Speaker 1: the fans because it made things fun to follow. WCW

  Speaker 1: did more to kill itself than Vince McMahon ever did,

  Speaker 1: even though he likes to take credit for killing the competition.

  Speaker 1: They killed themselves. They killed themselves through mismanagement, bad booking,

  Speaker 1: and their inability to create new stars. That's what killed

  Speaker 1: the AOL time Warner merger that didn't help. There were

  Speaker 1: absolutely people who worked for Turner who wanted them to

  Speaker 1: have nothing to do with WCW or just wrestling in general.

  Speaker 1: They would fiddle with the books to make it look

  Speaker 1: like they were losing more money than they really were.

  Speaker 1: All of those things were conspiring against them. But had

  Speaker 1: Eric Bischoff Infusion Media bought the company like they originally

  Speaker 1: intended to, I think the end result would have been

  Speaker 1: the same. Yeah, they would have survived a little bit

  Speaker 1: longer than they did, But Bischoff's period of real success

  Speaker 1: with WCW was fairly small, and he's been able to

  Speaker 1: parlay those eighty three weeks thirty years ago into a

  Speaker 1: support himself. But would w CW still be alive today

  Speaker 1: a core group of young, high flying guys to carry

  Speaker 1: the shows with a handful of big names to anchor it.

  Speaker 1: WWE would have the SmackDown slot on Thursdays. And that

  Speaker 1: all went out the window after that Booker t buff

  Speaker 1: Bagwell debacle. In Tacoma, Washington, which was not the match

  Speaker 1: to do in that spot. But they didn't have a

  Speaker 1: lot of the big names that would have appealed to

  Speaker 1: people at that time. Hogan, Flair Haul and Nash Goldberg.

  Speaker 1: I mean, they were content to collect their guaranteed money

  Speaker 1: and take a paid vacation. I would have done the

  Speaker 1: Jim Ross booking venues out months in advance for WCW shows,

  Speaker 1: It all went down the tubes, probably for the better.

  Speaker 1: Vince McMahon never would have allowed WCW to have any

  Speaker 1: type of real success, even though now he owned it,
• 7:22
  Speaker 1: because oh it's WCWWCW can't triumph in any way over WWE.

  Speaker 1: He even conditioned the fans to feel that way, right,

  Speaker 1: which is why they were so cold to WCW. At

  Speaker 1: first they didn't care. They're the enemy, but for years

  Speaker 1: they were branded that way, and so that takes hold

  Speaker 1: after a while. Now, all of a sudden, you expect

  Speaker 1: these people, they're supposed to cheer for them. It was

  Speaker 1: business standpoint, the worst thing to ever happen to wrestling

  Speaker 1: the friday he died, and she had texted him around

  Speaker 1: four o'clock that her nursing shift was ending, and he

  Speaker 1: didn't answer, which was unusual. As it turns out, he

  Speaker 1: had fallen at home and the way that he fell,

  Speaker 1: he broke his neck and He badly damaged his spinal cord,

  Speaker 1: and the neighbor found him laying on the floor. He

  Speaker 1: was alive, he was cognizant, but he was paralyzed from
• 11:25
  Speaker 1: the chest down and he ended up on a respirator.

  Speaker 1: He passed away shortly thereafter. Yeah, that's the thing about

  Speaker 1: was heartbreaking to listen to him talk about it because

  Speaker 1: you could hear it in his voice, just how broken

  Speaker 1: up he is about the whole thing. I haven't heard

  Speaker 1: him like that since Bobby Eaton died. And this was

  Speaker 1: announced on Tuesday as I was recording the Uncrowned Wrestling

  Speaker 1: Show that Psycho sid Vicious will be inducted into the

  Speaker 1: WWE Hall of Fame Class of twenty twenty six as

  Speaker 1: part of its Legacy Class. Finally, the only men left

  Speaker 1: to have held the Winged Eagle Belt to not be
• 12:55
  Speaker 1: in the Hall of Fame, we'll finally take his rightful place.

  Speaker 1: I always thought that was very weird that every person

  Speaker 1: who would held that championship was in except him. But

  Speaker 1: we actually got two names this week that are going in.

  Speaker 1: twenty one, he was diagnosed with stage four non Hodgkins lymphoma,

  Speaker 1: so he wasn't just battling stage four cancer. He apparently

  Speaker 1: had also gotten COVID as well, which is what led

  Speaker 1: publicly anyway, about his cancer. He was still making appearances,

  Speaker 1: the door, Arn had the scissors and everything just went

  Speaker 1: to shit. But Sid looks down and he sees a

  Speaker 1: at this point Vader wakes up. He comes out of

  Speaker 1: his room in his underwear, and he finds Sid with
