- 0:00Welcome to AI Update, where we explore the latest advancements
- 0:03in artificial intelligence with insights into Open AI, Google,
- 0:07Gemini, generative AI, machine learning, and more.
- 0:11Now let's learn together. I'm your host, Will Walden.
- 0:14So Tiktok is preparing to introduce a new AI chat bot
- 0:19named Genie to Western users based on a recent US trademark
- 0:23filing. This development represents Tik
- 0:25Tok's effort to enhance user interaction through artificial
- 0:28intelligence, allowing users to post questions and receive
- 0:32immediate responses. And in addition, TikTok has
- 0:35started allowing creators to download their videos without a
- 0:38watermark, simplifying content repurposing across phrase
- 0:41platforms. Now, a report from Semaphore
- 0:45said that TikTok has filed a trademark for the name Genie for
- 0:48its upcoming AI chatbot tool. The chat bot is expected to
- 0:52provide various functionalities including simulating
- 0:55conversations, facilitating interactions between humans and
- 0:59AI, and producing human like speech and text.
- 1:04In May in the US, the viral video app filed the trademark
- 1:08the name Genie for an AI chat bot software that will, among
- 1:11other functions, simulate conversations, facilitate
- 1:15interaction and communication between humans and AI, and
- 1:19produce human like speech and text.
- 1:23Now, TikTok strategy involves transforming the app into a
- 1:26central hub for all of its AI functionalities, with the Genie
- 1:30chat bot acting as a connector to different features within the
- 1:33app. This move aims to integrate
- 1:35multiple AI tools into a single user friendly interface.
- 1:40And the development of this chat bot isn't new.
- 1:43In May of the previous year, users in the Philippines had
- 1:46access to a chat bot named Takeo.
- 1:48However, Takeo was primarily designed to help users discover
- 1:52other videos within the app, rather than addressing complex
- 1:56queries. Now, the Genie chat bot is
- 1:59anticipated to be much more advanced and incorporating a
- 2:02broader range of AI capabilities within Tiktok itself.
- 2:07It's a significant upgrade to Takeo, aiming to deliver a
- 2:10comprehensive AI experience. Now the key feature for this
- 2:16could be conversations between creators and also people that
- 2:21follow them. So instead of just comments,
- 2:23imagine asking the creator a question and the AI version of
- 2:28the creator would answer your question right there.
- 2:31It takes a lot of time. I do YouTube as well and it
- 2:35takes a lot of time to answer every single question, every
- 2:38single comment. Last video that I had had 512
- 2:41comments on it. There's no way I could answer
- 2:44every single one of those comments.
- 2:46So an AI chat bot between the users and also the content
- 2:52creators is going to be a significant jump forward.
- 2:56Now, I can see in the future that AI could take over from not
- 3:01just the chat bot, but something like you ask the creator a
- 3:05question and in the creator's voice, the chat bot answers you.
- 3:11And you might have to pay for that.
- 3:12You might have to become a premium member or something like
- 3:14that. And that could be a future
- 3:17feature that people could be using on Tiktok.
- 3:22And one key component of this integration is the generative AI
- 3:26search function available in the Chinese version of Tiktok too.
- 3:31The feature enhances discovery both within and beyond the app,
- 3:35and Genie is expected to include similar capabilities.
- 3:39The US patented Trademark Office filing from May outlines that
- 3:42the chat bot will facilitate interaction and communication
- 3:45between humans and AI, simulate conversations, and produce human
- 3:50like speech and text. So the creator may record their
- 3:54voice and then repeat whatever the chat bot says to the user to
- 4:00the end user. It's a huge broad scope for this
- 4:03new tool, but Tiktok hasn't commented on the specifics of
- 4:07Genie. However, the company's well
- 4:09known AI powered algorithm combined with this generative AI
- 4:13tool suggests that Genie will be a robust addition to its suite
- 4:17of AI features. Now, more AI from Tiktok is
- 4:22coming. They have tested a AI
- 4:25recommendation chat bot called Takeo, of course, in the past,
- 4:29and the company has also been using Open AI's code to develop
- 4:32its own large language models. Earlier this month, TikTok
- 4:36revealed other new AI capabilities for its advertising
- 4:39partners, including digital avatars and AI dubbing.
- 4:43These enhancements reflect the company's ongoing investment in
- 4:46AI technology to support various functions within the app.
- 4:51So if you're an advertiser on TikTok, you can make an AI
- 4:55avatar. You never have to record
- 4:57anything yourself. You don't need a studio.
- 5:00You just have a AI version of you that does all the selling
- 5:03for you. Now, the trademark filing for
- 5:07Genie suggests that the AI initiatives at TikTok are
- 5:10expanding. The chatbot aims to offer more
- 5:13than just recommended searches. And it's going to be more
- 5:15comprehensive. And these advancements come a
- 5:18bit challenges right now, including the potential for
- 5:21divestment from its parent company, Bike Dance, or a ban in
- 5:24the US by early of 2025. If Tiktok is banned, all this
- 5:30could be for no reason. And the Biden administration has
- 5:33expressed concerns about national security risks posed by
- 5:36Tiktok's Chinese ownership. Tiktok is contesting these
- 5:42allegations, arguing that the proposed actions are
- 5:44unconstitutional and violate First Amendment rights.
- 5:48The legal battle shows that there's broad tensions between
- 5:51TikTok, US regulators and China. And in other TikTok news,
- 5:57introduce a new future that allow creatures creators to
- 6:00download their videos without a watermark.
- 6:02Kind of significant if they want to share these videos across
- 6:05different platforms. It's a welcome change by many
- 6:08users who have previously been restricted from repurposing
- 6:12content because of the TikTok watermark.
- 6:15And the absence of the watermark makes it easier for creators to
- 6:18reuse short form clips across different platforms.
- 6:21A screenshot from the app shows a prompt asking users to choose
- 6:24between saving videos with or without a watermark.
- 6:27Users can save watermark free videos by selecting the save
- 6:30option during the upload process.
- 6:33The update allows users to repost their content on other
- 6:36platforms like Instagram, Facebook also on YouTube,
- 6:42provided they share it on Tiktok first.
- 6:46Ensures Tiktok continues to receive user generated content
- 6:49first while enabling creators to benefit from sharing across
- 6:53multiple social media channels. Previously uploaded videos with
- 6:57watermarks on platforms like Snap or Instagram often resulted
- 7:01in restrictions. Similarly, YouTube might limit
- 7:04such content across its Shorts platform.
- 7:06The new feature simplifies the process of reposting content on
- 7:10different apps. Now, Since the start of 2024,
- 7:13TikTok has permitted users to download clips without
- 7:15watermarks. The recent change, which
- 7:17requires users to post on TikTok first, aims to prevent users
- 7:21from leveraging Tik Tok's editing tools exclusively for
- 7:25other platforms. Expert experts suggest that the
- 7:29water free or watermark free downloads could previously be
- 7:32achieved using the Cap Cut app, Tiktok's video editing tool.
- 7:37However, the new feature streamlines the process for
- 7:39those who prefer not to use additional apps for editing.
- 7:43It's a simplified workflow for creators.
- 7:46I'm a creator myself, so I would love to be able to use one apps
- 7:50editing software, edit everything and then use it
- 7:54everywhere. It's kind of difficult.
- 7:55So what I usually end up doing is creating something and import
- 8:00it into my computer. I edit it there and then I can
- 8:03send it out to all the different apps.
- 8:05So in addition to Genie, TikTok launched a creative content
- 8:09suite named Symphony. Powered by generative AI, the
- 8:13suite includes tools like Symphony Assist, Symphony
- 8:16Creative Studio, Symphony digital avatars and
- 8:19optimizations In TikTok Ads Manager.
- 8:22The Symphony Creative Studio is a notable feature and also
- 8:25allows users to create short clips from an existing asset or
- 8:29a product URL. And the AI engine generates
- 8:32custom video previews, simplifying the creative process
- 8:35for marketers and also for content creators.
- 8:39These features also include the ability to turn scripts into
- 8:42voiceovers that can be dubbed into multiple language so we can
- 8:46reach the whole globe. Videos created using this
- 8:48feature will be automatically labeled as AI generated to
- 8:51maintain transparency. Now, there's a little bit of
- 8:56related news here through Apple and Google.
- 9:01Bloomberg reported that Apple might integrate Google's Gemini
- 9:05chat bot into all of its devices.
- 9:08So not only are you going to get ChatGPT and Open AI, which Apple
- 9:13just announced, and also Apple Intelligence, but you could get
- 9:18Google's AI Gemini, their chat bot, on your iPhone.
- 9:23It would follow Apple's strategy of enhancing its AI capabilities
- 9:26by collaborating with other tech giants, and it'll be integrated
- 9:29right on the phone. It's not a separate app.
- 9:32So Apple senior VP of Software Engineering confirmed that
- 9:35Google Gemini would be incorporated into the Apple
- 9:38Intelligent suite of AI features.
- 9:41It's important for Apple to have AI now.
- 9:44They have to compete with all the other AI companies out
- 9:47there. And considering that AI is going
- 9:50to take over all of the tech world, they need to jump on
- 9:55board. So having Gemini and ChatGPT is
- 9:58a significant move for Apple. The AI enhanced Siri will prompt
- 10:03users to use ChatGPT or other AI models like Gemini if they
- 10:07provide better responses to user queries.
- 10:10Now, the integration aims to improve the overall
- 10:12functionality and responsiveness of Apple's virtual assistant.
- 10:17So Siri right now is very limited.
- 10:20It sometimes it just doesn't know what to do.
- 10:23You could ask it a question. I ask my Siri questions all the
- 10:25time. It has no idea what I'm talking
- 10:27about. Or it tells me to go to the web
- 10:29to look at a, a web page. And I just want an answer, you
- 10:34know, and I'm sure you do too. You just want Siri to tell you
- 10:37what's up. So sometimes, you know, Amazon's
- 10:41Alexa does the same thing. And this is where Apple can pull
- 10:45ahead of Amazon in the device category.
- 10:49Same with Google's assistants. They do the same thing.
- 10:52They just, they might not know what a thing is.
- 10:54So they'll just be like, here's a web page and you're like, hey,
- 10:57I don't, I'm not near the screen.
- 11:00You know, you'd use your home, your Google Home.
- 11:04And it's like, hey, I'm not near a screen.
- 11:05I can't go get that. And so it'll send a text to you
- 11:08with a link And it's like, it's just like 3 extra steps to do
- 11:12it. I'd rather the device just say,
- 11:15oh, here I, this is what I got from Gemini.
- 11:17Here's what I got from ChatGPT, here's what I got from any other
- 11:21AI app out there, any other chat bot.
- 11:23So make your own decision. Which one do you want to use?
- 11:26And this is a really good move from Apple.
- 11:28Instead of creating their own, they're using and integrating
- 11:31other people's software like they've done for a long time
- 11:34into their own software like Google Maps.
- 11:36Think of that. Google Maps is, you know, for
- 11:40for a while it was integrated with iOS and now they have Apple
- 11:43Maps, of course, which not that good.
- 11:45Sometimes it's OK, but Google Maps definitely my my maps of
- 11:49choice. So think about it that way.
- 11:53The close garden of Apple is becoming a little bit more open
- 11:59by including these other AI chat bots and the advancements in AI
- 12:07Here. They require a certain Apple
- 12:08device, the iPhone 15 Pro or newer can only access these
- 12:13features. So that the reason for that is
- 12:16because they need processing power that can handle the AI
- 12:20capabilities and functionality. So TikTok, Apple ChatGPT, Google
- 12:26Gemini, it's a huge trend right now.
- 12:29So please take a second and hit the follow button if you want
- 12:33more AI news like this in your feed.
- 12:36Thank you so much for listening today.
- 12:38Take care of yourselves and each other and I will see you in the
- 12:41next one.
