- 0:13Speaker 2: Me radio for mel Hello, good morning, not just I
- 0:15Speaker 2: don't know how, but they found me Bill.
- 0:17Speaker 3: He's here in a different capacity.
- 0:19Speaker 1: What capacity are you here in?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Back in a different time, an earlier time, the early
- 0:25Speaker 2: two thousands, it.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Was the Brobecks Hi, huh yeah, yeah.
- 0:29Speaker 2: And my original Brobecks drummer here, Matt glasses.
- 0:32Speaker 1: With me, Matt, good morning during morning.
- 0:35Speaker 4: I am great.
- 0:36Speaker 1: So if you were a drummer with the Brobecks, we
- 0:39Speaker 1: must have met at some point. I think so.
- 0:41Speaker 4: Even though I was in the band before well.
- 0:44Speaker 2: This is early two thousands, you were in.
- 0:47Speaker 1: The band before it got good.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yeah, quite to the contrary. Actually, I think we might
- 0:51Speaker 2: have taken a step down. This man is a talented gentleman.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Since since that time, he's won an Emmy or two
- 0:57Speaker 2: down in Hollywood. Play shot director, What.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Make the movie? What did you win Emmys for?
- 1:03Speaker 4: Mister b There was a documentary about soldiers making an
- 1:08Speaker 4: opera about their time in Fellujah, and we did like
- 1:10Speaker 4: a documentary of them.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Wow worked out. Did you get to go to the
- 1:15Speaker 1: Emmy Awards ceremonies. I did. Yeah.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it was a different ceremony, but it was still.
- 1:20Speaker 2: The non televised one. Yeah, where they do all the
- 1:23Speaker 2: brainy stuff.
- 1:23Speaker 1: But you still got pre drinks.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, but he didn't have to get
- 1:28Speaker 3: dressed up though.
- 1:30Speaker 2: But he's in town because we're doing a twentieth anniversary
- 1:33Speaker 2: reunion show if the original Brobis lineup on Saturday at
- 1:36Speaker 2: the Complex.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Oh wild, correct.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Yeah, It's kind of happened like some fans were sort
- 1:41Speaker 2: of aware that this album we made in my dad's
- 1:44Speaker 2: garage twenty years ago was having a twentieth anniversary and
- 1:47Speaker 2: things just kind of started to snowball from there. And
- 1:49Speaker 2: now we're all back together. We've reunited after twenty something years.
- 1:53Speaker 1: And so you alan you've continued your career in music. Yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 1: you've gone on to film. What are what are the
- 2:02Speaker 1: what are the other Brobacks doing?
- 2:03Speaker 2: Just face down in a gut or something?
- 2:07Speaker 1: It was it was hard to find. I had to
- 2:09Speaker 1: bail one of the matter.
- 2:09Speaker 2: You know, everyone's been doing really great, you know, living
- 2:12Speaker 2: life and having starting families, babies and work in the communities. Yeah,
- 2:18Speaker 2: but they were happy to pick up their old instruments
- 2:21Speaker 2: and how hard.
- 2:23Speaker 1: What when was the last time you all played together?
- 2:25Speaker 1: How many years ago?
- 2:26Speaker 2: Twenty something years so that yeah, and Matt came into
- 2:31Speaker 2: back into town a couple of days ago, we got together,
- 2:33Speaker 2: did our first like full band rehearsal had to go.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I mean it was just like riding a bike is
- 2:37Speaker 2: really strange.
- 2:38Speaker 1: I think that's yeah, yeah, I get it. You just
- 2:40Speaker 1: have you just kind of grooveed in together and.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Where Yeah, there's a couple of things where you know,
- 2:44Speaker 2: it's it's kind of like that that pat your head
- 2:46Speaker 2: and rub your son thing. At the same time, trying
- 2:48Speaker 2: to remember, you know this thing that I wrote when
- 2:50Speaker 2: I was what seventeen, played it when we were twenty
- 2:53Speaker 2: something and have it. Haven't touched the song for twenty
- 2:57Speaker 2: something years. But then we're all together in the same room.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Now, Matt, if you can just continued be doing drumming
- 3:02Speaker 1: of any kind.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Yes, actually drummed on I don't know how, but they
- 3:05Speaker 4: found these last album oh yeah, brought me in. Oh yeah,
- 3:08Speaker 4: and I do some music stuff for like I all
- 3:10Speaker 4: score the documentary films that I do.
- 3:13Speaker 1: How about the other guys.
- 3:14Speaker 2: How many more who were the other There's two other gentlemen.
- 3:16Speaker 2: There's a guitar player and singer named Mike Gross who's
- 3:19Speaker 2: up and they're both up in Davis County, I think,
- 3:21Speaker 2: where we grew up. And Brian Simansky, the most talented
- 3:25Speaker 2: piano player and I've ever seen in my life and
- 3:28Speaker 2: doing music for twenty plus.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Have they continued with music?
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah, they both do. And it's amazing to see Brian
- 3:37Speaker 2: in particular, that guy could play piano blindfolded and upside
- 3:40Speaker 2: down behind his back and just be able to shred
- 3:43Speaker 2: anything effortless the broback.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I remember interviewing you guys when you were just little
- 3:49Speaker 1: kids essentially kids in our studio. How many records and
- 3:56Speaker 1: how long were you together?
- 3:57Speaker 2: Oh? Man? So when the original line up together, we
- 4:00Speaker 2: did at least what I want or to and a half.
- 4:03Speaker 2: But man, we've been planning together since we were at
- 4:05Speaker 2: least in like junior high. Yeah, we were recording everything
- 4:08Speaker 2: we ever did.
- 4:09Speaker 1: And you have beards now, so this.
- 4:12Speaker 2: This bearded imman winning gentleman has been recording everything that
- 4:16Speaker 2: we've ever done from the time that we were like
- 4:18Speaker 2: that was so smart to think to do that back well,
- 4:21Speaker 2: luckily because this has sort of coincided with a documentaryt.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yeah years, yeah you did, You've done a documentary about
- 4:32Speaker 1: the Brobat, Yes.
- 4:33Speaker 2: And so we're doing a screening of that the day
- 4:35Speaker 2: before the show.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Has it been has it been seen anywhere in particular
- 4:38Speaker 1: the first thing?
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah, we see, we saw it and it's it's really great,
- 4:43Speaker 2: like got a little Cheerio car, a lot of great memories.
- 4:47Speaker 2: But yeah, we're having a theater screening the day before.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Can anybody come to that?
- 4:52Speaker 1: Is it sold out?
- 4:53Speaker 4: I heard that there might be a couple of tickets
- 4:56Speaker 4: that might get released.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Yeah, where they were going to be?
- 5:00Speaker 4: It's at the Megaplex Luxury at the Gateway.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. I don't really know soo many details.
- 5:05Speaker 2: I wish I did because this whole thing, both the
- 5:08Speaker 2: documentary screening and this reunion show, have been put together
- 5:11Speaker 2: by my wife Breezy, who has own here with the
- 5:15Speaker 2: donations that I forgot to bring, which is.
- 5:18Speaker 3: That's good because I haven't seen Breezy in a while.
- 5:20Speaker 2: So yeah, so she's she's on the way here with those.
- 5:22Speaker 2: We put a bag together last night, but we had
- 5:25Speaker 2: an idea to come down and do that and not
- 5:27Speaker 2: only just promote the show, but if anyone wanted to
- 5:30Speaker 2: come down and earn themselves a ticket.
- 5:33Speaker 1: We could do something tickets to the to the concert
- 5:35Speaker 1: at the complex.
- 5:36Speaker 2: There's only a handful left, so it's on the on
- 5:38Speaker 2: the verge of being sold out. Well, let's talk to
- 5:40Speaker 2: you some more.
- 5:41Speaker 3: To hang out for a minute. We got time to
- 5:43Speaker 3: talk to you a little bit more here.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Yeah, we have guests here with us. We have Dallen
- 5:48Speaker 1: Weeks from the Brobex and Matt Glass. People wanted to
- 5:54Speaker 1: say black, but it's Glass. Whatever you want to.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Say, a aura of the soul that he carries with them. Yes,
- 6:00Speaker 2: it's black, black as night.
- 6:02Speaker 1: The bro Becks, of course, Davis County Band started when.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Man, technically we've been playing together since like ninth grade,
- 6:13Speaker 2: but it wasn't the bro Becks, I think until like
- 6:16Speaker 2: early two thousand.
- 6:17Speaker 3: And bro Becks is something about somebody you went to
- 6:19Speaker 3: school with.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Right as the legend goes morning announcements every day at school,
- 6:25Speaker 2: it always ends with would always end with people who
- 6:27Speaker 2: had messages in the office, And for years every day
- 6:31Speaker 2: Jamie Brobeck had a message in the office. And after
- 6:33Speaker 2: a while we were like, who is Jamie and they
- 6:37Speaker 2: couldn't be found, so it became this like mystery person
- 6:40Speaker 2: inside joke, and so that's.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Never found out who Jamie Brobeck was.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Well, some of the did, like, there are fans out
- 6:46Speaker 2: there in the world who know way more about our
- 6:48Speaker 2: bands than we do. So I believe that they've found
- 6:52Speaker 2: Jamie Brobeck.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And then so Dallan You continued after the Brobacks broke up,
- 6:58Speaker 1: continued with music went where after.
- 7:00Speaker 2: That, which it Panic at the Disco, which is a small, small,
- 7:04Speaker 2: little known band. He toured tiny venues for just by
- 7:08Speaker 2: the skin of art.
- 7:09Speaker 1: You went on the world tour with him.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Yeah. It wasn't doing that for about ten years nearly,
- 7:14Speaker 2: and yeah, it just became time that I saw those
- 7:18Speaker 2: paths were going to diverge at some point, so I
- 7:21Speaker 2: started doing I don't know how, but they found me
- 7:23Speaker 2: in secret for like a year, just to see if
- 7:27Speaker 2: the art that I was making could kind of stand
- 7:29Speaker 2: on its own two feet.
- 7:30Speaker 3: It certainly did.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Yeah, well thank you. I didn't want to, you know,
- 7:33Speaker 2: come out waving a big manner saying formally Panic at
- 7:36Speaker 2: the Disco. It was its own thing and.
- 7:38Speaker 1: People love it.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Something about that felt kind of disingenuous. So yeah, I've
- 7:42Speaker 2: been doing that and I'm still doing that. And uh yeah,
- 7:44Speaker 2: Matt here came out and played drums on my last
- 7:47Speaker 2: record that I did with Dave Fridman, who's a big
- 7:50Speaker 2: producer does like Flaming Lips and a lot of my
- 7:53Speaker 2: favorite records are made by that guy. But you came
- 7:56Speaker 2: out to upstate New York to do that. That was amazing.
- 7:58Speaker 2: That haunted Amish, our studio that.
- 8:02Speaker 1: We also like slept in.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Yeah, did you also hear like the weird sounds at
- 8:06Speaker 2: night when you're there?
- 8:07Speaker 1: I think so it Amish Barns are notorious.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Notoriously haunted. But like we would end our day at
- 8:16Speaker 2: like two or three in the in the morning, you know,
- 8:18Speaker 2: shut the lights out, and then it would always sound
- 8:21Speaker 2: like someone was moving the piano across the hardwood floors
- 8:24Speaker 2: down there, and we would always go check it out.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Piano was always in the same spot.
- 8:29Speaker 3: No idea it was, it was it was pipes.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Jerry, You're no fun, go some more fun.
- 8:35Speaker 1: So so so the reason you guys are here today
- 8:38Speaker 1: is the Robecks are going to do a one off.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Yeah, we're doing twenty year reunion of a record that
- 8:44Speaker 2: we made in my dad's garage from top to bottom,
- 8:47Speaker 2: and a handful of other fan favorites as well. But yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 2: doing that at the complex on Saturday.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And there are a few tickets available that we are
- 8:56Speaker 1: going to we have some to give away here, have
- 8:58Speaker 1: any idea how many?
- 9:00Speaker 2: Not a lot. It's nearly sold out, but we're gonna,
- 9:04Speaker 2: you know, as many people as want to come down
- 9:06Speaker 2: and donate, like, we're happy to give them the tickets.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I saw that your wife brought Breezy brought a bunch
- 9:11Speaker 1: of stuff.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's and it's really her who's responsible for this
- 9:14Speaker 2: whole thing. Otherwise I'd be resting on my laurels and
- 9:17Speaker 2: taking a holiday.
- 9:18Speaker 3: And did you go through your closet and get some
- 9:21Speaker 3: some sparkly rock and roll shirts?
- 9:25Speaker 2: They're all in there. And most of the sparkly things
- 9:27Speaker 2: that I own our property of my mother in law,
- 9:30Speaker 2: her mom. Yeah. She she always shows up with some
- 9:34Speaker 2: kind of fabulous sparkly thing, and I'm like, hey, you
- 9:36Speaker 2: can I have that?
- 9:39Speaker 1: So if you want to come down and get tickets
- 9:41Speaker 1: for that show, it's.
- 9:42Speaker 2: When it's Saturday, the thirteenth, I think doors open at seven,
- 9:47Speaker 2: and we've got my I don't know how guitar player
- 9:50Speaker 2: his band future ex boyfriend is going to be open
- 9:54Speaker 2: in the show. So another local local acts they're really great.
- 9:57Speaker 3: It's gonna good.
- 9:58Speaker 1: So if you want to pay a ticket for that,
- 10:00Speaker 1: bring a donation for the road home here to Riverton Chevrolet.
- 10:03Speaker 1: It's hundred and eleven South Jordan Gateway, so it's on
- 10:09Speaker 1: the on the west side of Ive fifteen. They'll find it.
- 10:12Speaker 2: It's a classy side.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Now the documentary, what when? When can we see this?
- 10:19Speaker 3: And let's talk to the Salt Lake Film Society about
- 10:22Speaker 3: putting it in the theater.
- 10:23Speaker 4: You know, that would be amazing. We had to have
- 10:27Speaker 4: one screening happening, like I guess, our premiere on Friday,
- 10:30Speaker 4: and that's sold out, which is great.
- 10:32Speaker 2: And then it sell out in like minutes.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Yeah, like seven minutes, I think, which is crazy.
- 10:35Speaker 2: It's always good.
- 10:36Speaker 1: It works for me.
- 10:37Speaker 2: So we were thinking about doing a second screening, but
- 10:40Speaker 2: all of this has been way too much work and
- 10:41Speaker 2: we're so old.
- 10:44Speaker 4: We'll get it out there a couple more places and
- 10:45Speaker 4: then eventually we'll you know, do physical releases or streaming
- 10:49Speaker 4: and stuff like that.
- 10:50Speaker 3: After that, well, let's so yeah, let's talk to this
- 10:52Speaker 3: our people at the Salt Lake Film Society about getting
- 10:54Speaker 3: it for at least week. Katie's making notes.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Katie's making notes.
- 10:58Speaker 1: There we go. So I think people want to see
- 10:59Speaker 1: it's terrific. I'm glad you guys are. I think it's
- 11:04Speaker 1: a great idea. You say, was this your wife's idea?
- 11:06Speaker 2: You saw all of it was her idea. Yeah, there's
- 11:09Speaker 2: a couple of us that just you know, through the
- 11:11Speaker 2: time moves on and you kind of grow apart from people.
- 11:13Speaker 2: And I don't think that a few of us had
- 11:15Speaker 2: spoken in like at least fifteen years.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Well, if for no other reason, this is nice for that.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Have you guys just get There was some local Weezer
- 11:24Speaker 2: tribute show that Mike and I got asked to perform at,
- 11:27Speaker 2: and we oh yeah, we did that down in Provo
- 11:30Speaker 2: and got to talking again and it was just like
- 11:32Speaker 2: old times, like no time had passed at all.
- 11:34Speaker 1: So and your wife wanted to get you out of
- 11:36Speaker 1: the house, get me.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Out of the house, And yeah, Breezy is always right.
- 11:40Speaker 3: You know that.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I've learned that a long time ago. It's why they
- 11:44Speaker 2: that's why I'm still around. She keeps me around.
- 11:47Speaker 3: She brought these Brobacks tote bags. Maybe with the tickets
- 11:51Speaker 3: some of those away.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Sure, well, yeah those are really cool, very nice Brobacks
- 11:55Speaker 1: tote bags. So join us here at Riverton Chevrolet. The
- 11:59Speaker 1: first few people who come in and want tickets for
- 12:01Speaker 1: that show, which is this Saturday night at the complex,
- 12:05Speaker 1: you will give you a pair of tickets as long
- 12:07Speaker 1: as they last, and uh, give you a tote bag too.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Sure you got to bring a donation for the road home.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yeah, don't just come here with your hand out.
- 12:17Speaker 1: One hand out and one handful of donations. Uh, so
- 12:21Speaker 1: join us here.
- 12:21Speaker 3: I mean there's a Costco right over there. Yeah, there's
- 12:24Speaker 3: all kinds of retail stores. You could stop and pick
- 12:26Speaker 3: up a bag of socks and bring them.
- 12:28Speaker 2: You know, look, we the we're demanding effort.
- 12:31Speaker 1: That's that's what it is.
- 12:32Speaker 2: We've had to get together and remember songs from twenty
- 12:36Speaker 2: years ago. We're doing the work and that's all we
- 12:39Speaker 2: ask in return.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I hate it when people demand effort. I don't know
- 12:44Speaker 1: what to do.
- 12:45Speaker 3: All right, Well, thanks for swinging by having us. Good
- 12:48Speaker 3: to see you appreciate it.
