- 0:00Speaker 1: Ok Now, the K two d C Right is back
- 0:03Speaker 1: on July ten to help raise funds for Total Recreation,
- 0:06Speaker 1: an organization which does help get people with a disability
- 0:10Speaker 1: involved in sport and recreation. But what used to be
- 0:13Speaker 1: a three day writing challenge from Catherine to Darwin is
- 0:16Speaker 1: now an event that the whole family can be involved in.
- 0:19Speaker 1: And the man who helped create the challenge is Simon Watson.
- 0:22Speaker 1: He joins me on the line right now. Hi, Simon,
- 0:26Speaker 1: Katie Wolf.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Good morning, morning listeners.
- 0:28Speaker 1: How are we very well? Mate? Tell us a little
- 0:31Speaker 1: bit more about what's happening this year for the K
- 0:33Speaker 1: two DC RIGHT.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Well, it is obviously changed up and it has done
- 0:38Speaker 2: over the last couple of years due to that COVID
- 0:41Speaker 2: business that's been floating around. So yeah, it's no longer
- 0:45Speaker 2: a three day event, well not for this year. In
- 0:46Speaker 2: the last two years we've had to drop and change
- 0:49Speaker 2: how we run the event. But yeah, this year it's
- 0:51Speaker 2: more focused on big school holidays and getting the family
- 0:55Speaker 2: involved because there's plenty of parents out there that you know,
- 0:58Speaker 2: they're still working at the schoolhole that want to spend
- 1:00Speaker 2: time with the kids and just trying to find ways
- 1:02Speaker 2: to get involved and have some good quality family time.
- 1:05Speaker 2: And this year this events is for our ride around
- 1:09Speaker 2: the Turkey Wildlife Park on large July July tenth so awesome. Yeah, somedays,
- 1:14Speaker 2: so most people can make it, hopefully.
- 1:16Speaker 1: So so July ten from seven am, and it's a
- 1:20Speaker 1: ride around the Territory Wildlife Park. Simon, is it something
- 1:24Speaker 1: that the whole family can get involved in?
- 1:27Speaker 2: One hundred percent yep. And actually, speaking of family, because
- 1:30Speaker 2: they're such wonderful listeners, I'm actually I do have a
- 1:33Speaker 2: free family pass up for grabs today. Awesome. When I
- 1:39Speaker 2: mentioned the word avocado, that's the keyword, the keyword listeners.
- 1:43Speaker 2: If you hear me say avocado, not just yet, but
- 1:45Speaker 2: in the next couple of minutes, then pick up the phone.
- 1:48Speaker 2: In the first call, well, we're a free family pass.
- 1:50Speaker 2: It's about it at one hundred dollars.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Oh wonderful stuff. Well that number, of course if you
- 1:54Speaker 1: do want to call through eight nine four one one
- 1:58Speaker 1: oh four nine, but you're gonna have to. So you
- 2:00Speaker 1: hear Simon, what say avocado at some point throughout the
- 2:04Speaker 1: interview and Simon, that will that'll get people a family
- 2:08Speaker 1: pass obviously out to the Territory Wildlife Park on that day,
- 2:12Speaker 1: so on the tenth of July, and it kicks off
- 2:14Speaker 1: at seven am. So if they want to be part
- 2:17Speaker 1: of the ride as well, this is the perfect way
- 2:19Speaker 1: to get involved.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Well one so there is a few it was in
- 2:24Speaker 2: your place paper the QR code to scan that takes
- 2:26Speaker 2: you to the registration site, which is well. The website
- 2:30Speaker 2: is Authow's dot k two BC dot com dot au.
- 2:35Speaker 2: So even though there's the Catherine two Dahan Challenge website,
- 2:38Speaker 2: it doesn't mean you have to ride from Catherine. Folks
- 2:41Speaker 2: about that. It is a three hour social ride around
- 2:45Speaker 2: the Territory Wildlife Park. We've been very great to put
- 2:48Speaker 2: up their their bus route track for those three hours
- 2:51Speaker 2: before they open up to allow us to run this event.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And there's it's free breakfast, prizes, coffee, there's a coming
- 2:59Speaker 2: are very foundly orientated morning and the kids can peer
- 3:04Speaker 2: over and see windows and Buffalo's and the Barramunday and
- 3:08Speaker 2: then enjoy what they search. A lot of podcast to
- 3:10Speaker 2: offer as well. This the time of years obviously fantastic
- 3:12Speaker 2: for that.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Now, Simon, for those out there listening when you so
- 3:16Speaker 1: essentially with the ride, I know that the hours that
- 3:20Speaker 1: have been allocated are between seven am to ten am,
- 3:24Speaker 1: but people don't have to ride for that whole three hours,
- 3:27Speaker 1: do they.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Oh no, no, absolutely not. So there's for those that
- 3:30Speaker 2: have been there to the park, they know that the
- 3:32Speaker 2: bus travels around and there's different bus stops where people
- 3:34Speaker 2: get off to go to different exhibits and see if animals.
- 3:37Speaker 2: So we are actually going to be running a few
- 3:39Speaker 2: little fun events at a couple of those stops as
- 3:41Speaker 2: well with the water stations, so people can pull over
- 3:45Speaker 2: and get a chance to win a few little interesting
- 3:49Speaker 2: prizes there on the day that yeah, for those that
- 3:53Speaker 2: are obviously keen cycleents of our prize as well for
- 3:55Speaker 2: most labs, and there's a few different quirky things. And
- 3:59Speaker 2: also there's people in courage to fancy dress and there's
- 4:02Speaker 2: prizes for that. So it's basically just going to be
- 4:04Speaker 2: a very fun feel day and get people out and
- 4:06Speaker 2: about and join the great outdoors. But also, yeah, raising
- 4:09Speaker 2: money for a cause. That's it, dear in my heart.
- 4:12Speaker 2: And obviously we've done a lot of helps to Katie
- 4:15Speaker 2: and you're helping us with this with Total Recreation and
- 4:18Speaker 2: a lot of the non for profits.
- 4:19Speaker 1: So yeah, well and so all that money raised or
- 4:22Speaker 1: any money raised on the morning is going to Total
- 4:25Speaker 1: Recreation and it stays right here in the territory as well,
- 4:27Speaker 1: doesn't it.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. So yeah, all funds raised to
- 4:31Speaker 2: go to Total Recreations year. One hundred percent of the
- 4:34Speaker 2: funds that come through. So the money we've got from
- 4:37Speaker 2: our general responses and et cetera and goes towards paying
- 4:40Speaker 2: for the breakfast and the other catering stuff that we
- 4:43Speaker 2: need to organize for the day, So the costs are covered,
- 4:46Speaker 2: but the extra all the money's come in go straight
- 4:51Speaker 2: to Total recond or wonderful job up here supporting people
- 4:53Speaker 2: with disabilities and yeah, helping people who based greater challenges
- 4:57Speaker 2: in their life, and obviously that we do.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Absolutely they really are, Katie.
- 5:03Speaker 2: I've got to have a quick bite of my chicken,
- 5:06Speaker 2: cheese and avocado posting here that I've just got for lunch.
- 5:10Speaker 2: One second.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Eight nine four one one o four nine is the
- 5:17Speaker 1: number if you'd like to call through. Simon has just
- 5:20Speaker 1: said the code word, which was avocado, and the phone
- 5:23Speaker 1: lines had gone ballistic. I thought you were going to say,
- 5:28Speaker 1: you know, I thought you were going to say, there's
- 5:30Speaker 1: going to be catering and an avocado for breakfast or
- 5:33Speaker 1: something like that. I could have, but then I did think, well,
- 5:41Speaker 1: then you'd have to put avocados on and they might
- 5:43Speaker 1: be expensive.
- 5:44Speaker 2: At the moment, the cost of living up is acious anywhere.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Too funny. Well, so those phone lines are ringing, so
- 5:57Speaker 1: we will make sure that we are. The phones have
- 6:00Speaker 1: gone off obviously for the avocado, so we will make
- 6:04Speaker 1: sure that we hang on. So mal Mail was the
- 6:08Speaker 1: first caller, So Mail has been lucky enough to score
- 6:13Speaker 1: that family pass. So we'll get all of Mail's details
- 6:16Speaker 1: and pass them on to make sure that you get
- 6:18Speaker 1: them Simon. But it sounds like it's going to be
- 6:21Speaker 1: a wonderful family event and all for an amazing cause.
- 6:25Speaker 1: And Mate, well done to you. Over the last few years.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I know that you've had to modify that event greatly
- 6:30Speaker 1: based on COVID and various other things. And it's not
- 6:32Speaker 1: always easy, you know, to put on wonderful community events
- 6:36Speaker 1: like this, So hats off to you and the small
- 6:40Speaker 1: crew I know that support you. I hope that it
- 6:42Speaker 1: goes off absolutely wonderfully.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks, he look for to seeing you've hatted the
- 6:47Speaker 2: kids there too. On front of the tent mate.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I'll love to come out, love to come out for
- 6:52Speaker 1: a visit. I'm actually going to be We're going to
- 6:54Speaker 1: be away. But the one thing that I'm really bad
- 6:56Speaker 1: at is cycling. I'm shocking cyclist.
- 7:04Speaker 2: That's gold be a good way for listeners to improve
- 7:06Speaker 2: their skills as well. I've got a few found in
- 7:08Speaker 2: the movements with bikes, have been sitting in the shed
- 7:10Speaker 2: and I said, bring them along. Rusty, not rusty.
- 7:16Speaker 1: It will be. It'll be absolutely wonderful. Simon. Always good
- 7:19Speaker 1: to talk to you. Thanks so much for your time.
- 7:21Speaker 1: And of course if people are after some more info,
- 7:23Speaker 1: where should they head?
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so, yeah, the website, the best one, the K
- 7:27Speaker 2: two d C is that's number two K two d
- 7:30Speaker 2: C dot com dot au or if you know me,
- 7:33Speaker 2: obviously give you a card any Simon, And yeah, look
- 7:37Speaker 2: forward to having so many people there on the day
- 7:38Speaker 2: as plus we're gonna be fantastic and plenty of prizes,
- 7:41Speaker 2: giveaways and come along with for a breakfast and watch
- 7:44Speaker 2: the kids cycle around up to you.
- 7:45Speaker 1: But yeah, fantastic, good stuff, Simon. Lovely to catch up
- 7:50Speaker 1: with you. Thanks so much for your time this morning.
