- Lucas: Bienvenidos back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 17! Can you believe it? We're really doing this. Lucas: We are. And today we're going to learn something super practical: the days of the week in Spanish. Luna: Ohh, yes. I've been meaning to ask. In English we have Monday, Tuesday... but in Spanish they're different. How do you say Monday? Lucas: Monday is lunes. Say it with me: LOO-ness. Lunes. Luna: Lunes. Lunes. That's pretty simple. Lucas: Exactly. And Tuesday is martes. MAR-tess. Martes. Luna: Martes. Martes. Lucas: Good. And Wednesday is miércoles. Mee-AIR-coh-less. Miércoles. Luna: Oof. Miércoles. That one's a bit longer. Miércoles. Lucas: You got it. Thursday is jueves. HWAY-ves. Jueves. Luna: Jueves. That's almost like 'juice'? Lucas: Kind of, but with a 'way' sound. Jueves. And Friday is viernes. Vee-AIR-ness. Viernes. Luna: Viernes. So many 'nes' endings. Lucas: Right, lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, viernes all end with 'es' except miércoles, but it's similar. Then Saturday is sábado. SAH-bah-doh. Sábado. Luna: Sábado. That sounds like a party day. Lucas: It is! And Sunday is domingo. Doh-MEEN-goh. Domingo. Luna: Domingo. Like the singer? Lucas: Exactly. So let me review: lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, viernes, sábado, domingo. Luna: Okay, let me try them all. Lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, viernes, sábado, domingo. Lucas: Perfect. Just a tiny note: in Spanish, the days of the week are not capitalized like in English. So you write 'lunes' not 'Lunes'. Luna: Oh, good tip. So I won't capitalize them. Lucas: Right. And to say 'on Monday', you just say 'el lunes'. For example: 'El lunes voy al trabajo' — On Monday I go to work. Luna: El lunes. So 'el' for all days? Lucas: Yes, all days are masculine. El lunes, el martes, el miércoles... Luna: El miércoles, el jueves, el viernes, el sábado, el domingo. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's do a little conversation. I'll ask you '¿Qué día es hoy?' — What day is today? And you answer with the day. Luna: Okay. ¿Qué día es hoy? Lucas: Today is Friday. So you say 'Hoy es viernes.' Luna: Hoy es viernes. Lucas: Great. Now you ask me. Luna: Ooh, okay. ¿Qué día es hoy? Lucas: Hoy es lunes. Because we're starting the week. Luna: Lunes. Got it. Let me try a different one: ¿Qué día es hoy? Hoy es miércoles. Lucas: Yes! You're a natural. Luna: Thanks. So if I want to say 'on Saturday I relax', I'd say 'El sábado yo... relajo?' Lucas: Close. 'El sábado yo descanso.' Descanso means I rest or relax. Luna: El sábado yo descanso. Nice. Lucas: And 'el domingo yo voy a la playa' — on Sunday I go to the beach. Luna: El domingo yo voy a la playa. That sounds lovely. Lucas: Absolutely. So let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: lunes. Luna: Lunes. Lucas: Martes. Luna: Martes. Lucas: Miércoles. Luna: Miércoles. Lucas: Jueves. Luna: Jueves. Lucas: Viernes. Luna: Viernes. Lucas: Sábado. Luna: Sábado. Lucas: Domingo. Luna: Domingo. Lucas: Wonderful. Now let's go around again, but I'll say the day in English and you say it in Spanish. Luna: Okay, challenge accepted. Lucas: Monday. Luna: Lunes. Lucas: Tuesday. Luna: Martes. Lucas: Wednesday. Luna: Miércoles. Lucas: Thursday. Luna: Jueves. Lucas: Friday. Luna: Viernes. Lucas: Saturday. Luna: Sábado. Lucas: Sunday. Luna: Domingo. Lucas: Perfect. See? You know them now. Luna: I do! And I remember that they're all masculine with 'el'. So 'el lunes', 'el martes'... Lucas: Exactly. And you know how to ask '¿Qué día es hoy?' and answer. Luna: Yes. Hoy es viernes, for example. Lucas: Right. So your homework for this week — no pressure — is to practice saying what day it is each day in Spanish. Luna: Good idea. Every morning I'll say 'Hoy es...' and the day. Lucas: That's the spirit. And if you forget one, just come back to this episode. Luna: I will. Practice makes perfect. Lucas: Absolutely. And remember, you can find all the phrases and more resources at Fexingo. Luna: That's right. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time. ¡Hasta luego! Lucas: ¡Hasta luego! And don't forget: today is... well, whatever day it is for you! Luna: I think it's domingo for me. Time to relax. Lucas: El domingo yo descanso. Luna: Exactly. Bye, everyone!
