Transcript
- 0:14Hi and welcome to Arguing Ever After.
- 0:17I'm Luke and this is my fiery Irish bride, Amber.
- 0:20Hello together we are the Lord and Lady who lock horns.
- 0:25The counting Countess of contention.
- 0:28The Duke and Duchess of Disagreement.
- 0:30And the king and queen of quarrels.
- 0:32We have been together since the famous words were written in
- 0:36script. Harry, you're a wizard and we've
- 0:39argued about practically everything and we're still
- 0:42together and happy. In this entertainment only
- 0:46podcast we will bicker about all things big and small and the
- 0:50audience gets the final fan who the winner is.
- 0:53We do not claim to be relationship experts by any
- 0:57means. We debate many things in real
- 1:00life and on this podcast, many of which are submitted by our
- 1:03listeners. So if you have a topic you want
- 1:05us non professionals to battle over before you try it at home,
- 1:09send it to us at arguingeverafter@gmail.com.
- 1:13Perhaps this completely unscientific method of letting
- 1:16the masses decide who is right can settle your fight before you
- 1:20even have it. And so here we are, everyone yet
- 1:25again for an epic battle. And the number is. 10.
- 1:29It's not even 9 anymore. It's.
- 1:31Double digits. Wow, two hands.
- 1:34Yeah, we do the clap. Yeah.
- 1:37And that's pretty exciting for us because I don't know if
- 1:39that's a milestone in the metrics of Podcast world, but it
- 1:42feels like a big one. I think it could be, but yeah I
- 1:45agree 10 is a big number. Like when a kid turns 10, that's
- 1:49a big deal. It's huge.
- 1:50That's a whole nother birthday cake right there.
- 1:52I mean, that's and a themed birthday.
- 1:54That's what I'm saying. You're getting that's that's the
- 1:56real deal. Once you hit double numbers like
- 1:59you can't go back to small individual ones.
- 2:01Who? Wants to be 9 again.
- 2:02No, nobody. Not me.
- 2:04That's only for like the little people, I guess.
- 2:09If that's who they are. Oh perfect.
- 2:16Funny thing we were talking about that doesn't have anything
- 2:18to do with the podcast really, but we were introing ourselves
- 2:23and I remembered that one year Amber got me for a gift.
- 2:28They probably fake but maybe real plot of Scottish land
- 2:33because I am a Scott and that makes me a Lord technically as a
- 2:38landowner in the great country of Scotland.
- 2:42So I'm actually a Lord. So we really are the Lord and
- 2:45Lady who lock horns. Yeah.
- 2:48And at one time I had a nickname of Duke cause Luke.
- 2:55So we're also the Duke and Duchess of Disagreement.
- 2:59Are we count and Countess? I I Are you secretly a Countess
- 3:03the Contessa? I mean it, I have it maybe.
- 3:09Oh, I'm into it. OK, this is exciting.
- 3:11Well, we'll keep delving into our titles as well.
- 3:14I have. Done some accounting.
- 3:16Oh my, that's a joke. You do.
- 3:21Good jokes they do. I hope the people that can't see
- 3:24your face are smiling as big as you are.
- 3:27Yeah. Oh man, the pride you have for
- 3:30that. I almost didn't say it.
- 3:34You're like. But I couldn't hold it back
- 3:36anymore. You're like a Countess.
- 3:43I want you to do like Count Voice from Sesame Street next
- 3:46time 1. Yeah. 2 Anyway, enough about our
- 3:54titles. So here we are in Episode 10,
- 3:58our very 10th. Very 10th episode.
- 4:00It's fun to say that because even though it's not our very
- 4:03first, it still feels new. Yes, I I just thought it was
- 4:07really funny when I was like, why does everybody always say
- 4:09very first and then we're very 2nd and I'm like, you know what?
- 4:12It's our very yeah every. Time we're celebrating.
- 4:15So if you all get annoyed with it, you can blame me because I
- 4:18just thought it was a oh we could.
- 4:21Count ourselves like babies get counted in like weeks and
- 4:24months, years old. Like our podcast is 14 months
- 4:29old today. It's not.
- 4:30But I mean, if we got there, when we get there, I don't, I
- 4:34don't know. That wouldn't be a school.
- 4:36I mean, we're, we would be at like 10 weeks.
- 4:39That's, I mean, that's a lot, Yeah.
- 4:40If it was a puppy that's like old enough to be moved on into a
- 4:44House of it's it's forever home. Old enough to, yeah, move out
- 4:48and become a somebody's companion, family and family
- 4:52member. We got our most recent puppy I
- 4:54believe pretty close to that. Yeah, somewhere around that,
- 4:58maybe 11 weeks. He's no longer 10 weeks old,
- 5:00though. He's really big.
- 5:01No, no, I don't think he'll get there either.
- 5:03So. Well, you know what else he
- 5:05probably won't do, but maybe he could one year.
- 5:08He could go somewhere with us, like for instance, to a local
- 5:13attraction, even more specifically a fair of some
- 5:18sort. We have many here in the great
- 5:21state of Minnesota, The greatest.
- 5:24The greatest of all, of course, being the great Minnesota get
- 5:29together. That is a that is an event, but
- 5:32I don't think they allow dogs maybe service animals you're.
- 5:36Probably right? I don't, I didn't see, I, I
- 5:39don't ever recall. They do have a dog day at the
- 5:41Renaissance Festival. They do.
- 5:43He went to that. He did.
- 5:45Don't you remember? He was so happy to see every
- 5:49other dog. There.
- 5:49Oh yeah, and he spooned with another dog.
- 5:52Spooned with another dog. It was so cute.
- 5:54Yeah, I do remember that. It was adorable.
- 5:57It was. It was.
- 5:59We could use most of our titles there.
- 6:01Probably. Lord and lady, Count and
- 6:04Countess and Duchess. I'm just saying, King and Queen.
- 6:07That all fits at our Renaissance Festival.
- 6:09Probably does. But that's not that's not the
- 6:11fair we're talking about today. We're talking about the
- 6:14Minnesota State Fair. Yes.
- 6:16Which is the best State Fair in all 50 states?
- 6:22I'm gonna say it right now. I'm throwing down the gauntlet.
- 6:24Anybody that is listening from Texas?
- 6:26Yeah, Texas does not agree. Y'all lose 'cause they might
- 6:31outpace us in attendance but they do it in some ridiculous
- 6:34amount of time. Like there's three or four weeks
- 6:36long and they beat us by like a couple 100,000 people and ours
- 6:41is 10 days long. I, I will say it is well known
- 6:46the Minnesota State Fair. It's the best for sure.
- 6:49I don't, I don't know I haven't been to Texas State fair and I'm
- 6:52sorry Texas never will go to the State Fair in Texas.
- 6:55I'm in general I that's my feelings about state fairs so
- 7:02but I'm sure that that they think theirs is the best too.
- 7:06Now what about like a like a smaller one?
- 7:09Like a County Fair? City Fair.
- 7:12I don't know if I've never been to a city fair.
- 7:14In the last city that we lived in, they had like a what was it
- 7:18called? Summer days or something?
- 7:20Yeah, I guess they do. Is.
- 7:21It called Summerfest. I mean, OK, so I only ever went
- 7:25there because we had a kid and there's stuff for kids to do,
- 7:30but for me personally, I would not have gone.
- 7:34Funnel cake. It's really not worth it to me,
- 7:37but for our child it is. She likes funnel cake.
- 7:41She. Does.
- 7:42Yeah. I mean, who doesn't?
- 7:43I like funnel cake, but you know, I don't.
- 7:47It's not a big enough draw for me to go to what would.
- 7:51Be a big enough draw for you. You know, it has been a big
- 7:55enough draw for me. No certain concerts.
- 8:00Wait. We've seen some pretty great
- 8:01people at the Minnesota State Fair and then promptly left.
- 8:06And not just concerts, we've done lots of other great things
- 8:09there too. You might not think they're as
- 8:11great, but I do. Like what?
- 8:15Things like, I don't know, the food.
- 8:19I mean, that's one of the reasons it's like epically
- 8:22famous every year for like, I don't know, at least a month
- 8:26leading up to the fair. It's all over the news.
- 8:30It's all over the Internet. People are like, tweeting about
- 8:33it and put it on social media and talking about, oh, what new
- 8:37foods are going to be at the Minnesota State Fair this year?
- 8:40And the vendors like, actually compete to get into the list
- 8:44because they become like instantly famous.
- 8:47Locally. I mean, OK, you could say
- 8:50whatever you want, but if you get to put yourself at the top
- 8:53ten list of a new food to try for 2 million people in 10 days,
- 9:01I feel like that's not nothing. I feel like I actually just saw
- 9:05the attendance and it was 1.2. No you didn't.
- 9:09I saw the attendance, it was 1.9 something.
- 9:13Yep. You could be right.
- 9:15Oh I'm right 'cause I was actually interested.
- 9:18I was hoping to get the to beat the record from pre COVID.
- 9:21And we did not. We did not.
- 9:23We did not. We needed like one more day.
- 9:25It was like 150 or 250,000 people short.
- 9:29And it was the best weather for any fair ever.
- 9:32But I was caught. Yeah, 'cause it wasn't like been
- 9:35have rain stupid hot. Yeah, it's usually stupid hot
- 9:39for like two or three days. You don't still go there and
- 9:41just get sweaty. They do.
- 9:43Or it's rainy for several days, and I don't know that we had any
- 9:46right. We might have, but.
- 9:47I think we had a couple of like drizzles, but no one.
- 9:50Yeah, nothing to keep people away from the the fair.
- 9:53That's true. So after it would have been a
- 9:55year, this feels like the perfect year for that.
- 9:58I don't know I think that there's there while there is a
- 10:05lot of food to try, we actually do know people who will go
- 10:08multiple days. I know someone who camps out at
- 10:11the fair. Wow like that fair, the
- 10:14fairgrounds. I didn't know this until I met
- 10:16this person. You can have a camper and stay
- 10:20in the camper and essentially get into the fair every single
- 10:23day. I.
- 10:23Did not know that. I could not do that.
- 10:27I know we we both grew up near the State Fair.
- 10:31I have disdain for the traffic of the State Fair.
- 10:37You didn't. Even grow up that close.
- 10:39But you could hear it and it literally stopped traffic for a
- 10:43main thorough way for for me growing up as it must have for
- 10:47you as well for sure. And I didn't like that.
- 10:50Also we could hear all the concerts from the back deck, but
- 10:54not good. Like it just was noise and I
- 10:58mean even though I grew up a couple miles away not far.
- 11:02Did you watch the fireworks? I don't remember doing that.
- 11:05I don't really. I remember the sound of the
- 11:07fireworks. But honestly, I was a kid who
- 11:09went to bed early, so I probably wasn't even awake.
- 11:12I didn't. I didn't feel like staying up
- 11:14late anyhow, so. So we grew up so close that like
- 11:17people would park on or near our street and walk to the fair.
- 11:22Yeah, yeah. I, it wasn't like A2 block walk,
- 11:25but it was probably like, I don't know, a half a mile or
- 11:28something. And because of the amount of
- 11:31people, as we said, 2 million people in 10 days, it's
- 11:33literally the average attendance is like a couple 100,000 people.
- 11:37There's nowhere to park unless you want to pay a bunch of money
- 11:39to park like at the fair. Well, people make big money
- 11:43allowing people to park in their lawns.
- 11:45Oh, they made a new law this year, like the city of Falcon
- 11:49Heights made it so that you had to pay to park on city streets
- 11:53around the. Yeah, I don't think that was
- 11:55right. That just seems like an.
- 11:56I know it like took a for sure it's a money grab.
- 11:59It took away from the people who already own the property.
- 12:01Yeah. Who would like have people come
- 12:03park on their grass for 20 bucks and they just. 20 to 40 when we
- 12:07drove around one year. I mean like the closer you are,
- 12:10which makes sense. You know, you'd have people with
- 12:12a sign 40 bucks a car. I mean, that could have probably
- 12:15paid for their listen to me. It could have paid for their
- 12:17state taxes. Or their mortgage payment.
- 12:21Yeah, yeah. I mean in 10 days if you figure
- 12:23what if your lawn could fit two or three cars?
- 12:25And they'll shuffle them around like that was a big deal.
- 12:28I don't remember seeing signs like that when we went.
- 12:31Well, we didn't go like we normally would park in that
- 12:33area. And one of the reasons we didn't
- 12:35was because I read about this new law this year.
- 12:37I don't like that. So we actually just paid for
- 12:39State Fair parking. Not fair.
- 12:41Consequently, it didn't turn out so good because we had to go
- 12:45back twice. We could talk about that later,
- 12:48but no. I think it's like it's weird
- 12:51that they have made it so that you have to pay to park on the
- 12:54street. Like it's not like it's a
- 12:56downtown area. I don't.
- 12:57Know, right? There's nothing else going on.
- 12:59They just might. I don't know.
- 13:00I don't know it's it was greedy in my opinion.
- 13:04People been parking on those streets for however old the fair
- 13:07is. Did you do that research?
- 13:08I don't. I don't have any.
- 13:09Idea. Have any idea I mean?
- 13:11I feel like it's at least 40 years old.
- 13:13Oh, it's way older than that. It started for sure.
- 13:16It's older than that because it started originally.
- 13:18It wasn't like the big fair that it is today.
- 13:20It was like a lot of it started out with farmers.
- 13:23Yeah. And like the the Coliseum, they
- 13:26would like auction off like horses and cattle.
- 13:30And then the grandstand would have they actually car races
- 13:34back in the day. Yeah, the grandstand now has the
- 13:38concerts, but like, it used to be car races.
- 13:41So it's really old. Like it's, I, I would guess,
- 13:44although I have no idea, probably shortly after World War
- 13:482 ended where America started doing all kinds of stuff and,
- 13:52you know, booming population and business and.
- 13:56Maybe it was like in line with the World Fair.
- 13:59Could be. But maybe that's.
- 14:00That's the old I think. I don't know.
- 14:02I mean, that still happens, I think.
- 14:03Did that recently just happen in like Japan or?
- 14:06I don't know. I've never been to the world
- 14:07fair either. Same.
- 14:09Yeah, I don't know. That was the Chicago 1.
- 14:11So like, that's as close as we ever.
- 14:13Well, and at the world fair, unlike the State Fair, but they
- 14:17would have huge inventions and things that they would show to
- 14:21people like it. It was There was a reason to
- 14:23pull people together and they. We have a reason.
- 14:27The great butter sculpture of that.
- 14:30So for you who don't know about Minnesota, and this is actually,
- 14:33I'm very excited to break all of the news about the Minnesota
- 14:36State Fair to people who don't attend.
- 14:38But every year there is literally a person who who is
- 14:44selected by some process that I don't know to be the official
- 14:50sculpture of the fair that year and a sculptor artist carves the
- 14:57person out of a monstrously large life sized block of
- 15:03butter. Isn't it always a woman or
- 15:05something? I don't.
- 15:06I don't actually know. I mean, I think I've seen a
- 15:08couple of the sculptures, but I don't know enough about it to
- 15:11say it's always. I don't think I've ever.
- 15:13Seen the Princess of dairy or something is what you're
- 15:15thinking. Well, but I can't imagine I'd be
- 15:17in Minnesota. We are, I mean.
- 15:19Dairy. We're right next to the cheese
- 15:21capital of the world. I know.
- 15:22Maybe that makes us the butter capital of the world.
- 15:26I don't. I don't know if we want that.
- 15:27Do we want that title? I don't know.
- 15:29Butter is delicious. Lots of things aren't fried
- 15:32there. I just put a bunch of it on my
- 15:33baked potato tonight. So interesting thing about like
- 15:37those the the butter. They would also have like arts
- 15:41competitions. Yes, they still do different
- 15:44types of like folk arts and things.
- 15:46I don't know if there's. Also made of butter.
- 15:48No, no, no. Just like no.
- 15:50Like there's a quilting contest, I want to say there's like some
- 15:55kind of baking contest but I don't know about that for sure.
- 15:59But interesting fact is my mom submitted a sewing thing to the
- 16:06State Fair and she got some price level for it.
- 16:08So what was this? I don't.
- 16:11I don't know if I was born. I probably was born, but yeah,
- 16:14yeah. So, so sometime in the last 27
- 16:16years. Yes, in the last 27 years, my
- 16:19mom submitted some embroidery piece that Yeah.
- 16:23That's. Pretty cool, yeah.
- 16:24And. So was it an embroidery of your
- 16:26face? No, how would she?
- 16:29You know, that's the thing, She wouldn't be able to do that
- 16:31because I do have a couple other sisters and you know.
- 16:37Maybe it was a cat. No, I think I know what it.
- 16:40Is well, I hope that she'll comment on this when she watches
- 16:43the what what the embroidery piece was.
- 16:46I'm pretty sure I know what it is, but I'll, I'll let her
- 16:49comment at some point. So, yeah, OK, so that's my,
- 16:52that's my own, not personal, but close to personal experience of
- 16:59State Fair competition. Nobody in my family ever got to
- 17:03do a State Fair competition. So is that what?
- 17:05It's called a competition. I don't know.
- 17:09Not if it's not a competition. I don't know, but yeah, there's,
- 17:12there's all those art buildings and as well as the cow.
- 17:16They still do have the cows and the horses.
- 17:18They still do have the arts buildings, we just don't ever
- 17:21walk into them. Yeah.
- 17:23Well, like this year when we went there in the Coliseum,
- 17:27there was what do they call the a barrel racer.
- 17:33Yeah, I don't know. All of my rodeo friends are
- 17:36gonna custom. Who did some sort of horse
- 17:38competition? Barrel Rider.
- 17:40Yeah. Anyway, there was there was a
- 17:43lady riding a horse real fast around some barrels and it was
- 17:47impressive, not gonna lie. Yeah, yeah.
- 17:50I would die if I tried that. Right.
- 17:52Well, you also aren't very. Or I'd be able to do it if you
- 17:55gave me about 20 minutes. What?
- 17:58Once you get around. There I was gonna say get around
- 18:00like 1. 20 minutes of trial with the horse.
- 18:02OK, got it. We're good.
- 18:04No. Then I'd be all right.
- 18:05No. Yeah.
- 18:08But I watched, I watched one of my cousins who did the some kind
- 18:12of horse thing. It was at the State Fairgrounds.
- 18:14I don't know if it was during the State Fair or not, but.
- 18:17One year also, this is one of the fun things about all the
- 18:20livestock and animals that they have.
- 18:22One year at the fair when our kid was a little here, I took
- 18:24her. You can go into this is one of
- 18:26the fun things about the fair. All the different animal barns,
- 18:31like they have a poultry 1 and they have a cattle or maybe it's
- 18:35called livestock, something like that.
- 18:37And they have a equine, which is horse, and you can go in them.
- 18:41And I took her in there and she was maybe like 6 or 7.
- 18:49So she was still pretty small. And I was, you know, the size of
- 18:53me. And we went to where they had
- 18:56the huge draft horses and there was a Clydesdale there.
- 19:00And it is absolutely amazing how enormous a creature that is.
- 19:06Yeah, 'cause like even you see it in a picture and you're like,
- 19:08Dang, that's big. Try seeing one in person like 2
- 19:11feet from you and you're like how does this even exist?
- 19:15It doesn't. Track what?
- 19:16Like what did? Oh my goodness, doesn't it?
- 19:20Because it doesn't track on the racetrack.
- 19:22You are so full of dad jokes today.
- 19:24It's amazing. Oh.
- 19:27Wow. Now I don't even know what I was
- 19:30talking about. Just the comedy took it right
- 19:32from me. You know, there's they're
- 19:34talking about there being a lot of animals.
- 19:36So that's that seems like. Oh yeah.
- 19:37Even though it's a part of the original portion of the State
- 19:40Fair, for me it feels like a small portion based on what is
- 19:45now the State Fair. Sure.
- 19:48However, the whole point is it's supposed to be, I don't know,
- 19:52the great get together. So we have lots of people
- 19:56outside of farming that live in Minnesota.
- 19:58So I guess maybe to represent the whole state, but there's
- 20:03just a lot of food and. There's so much food.
- 20:06And like you said, it is it is kind of well known.
- 20:08I've even heard people talk about it on like the large
- 20:12cooking shows. Oh, really?
- 20:13Like on real TV? Yeah.
- 20:15They're like, Oh yeah, on real TV.
- 20:17Wow. Yeah.
- 20:18They'll talk about, you know, something being through the
- 20:21State Fair and one of the master chef shows that I watched,
- 20:27someone, one of the three chefs said that he wanted to come to
- 20:30Minnesota State Fair and he might have.
- 20:32I don't. Know which?
- 20:34Chef Joe. OK, from Master Chef with Gordon
- 20:38Ramsay. Yeah, yeah, he is not the nicest
- 20:42person. Oh, I.
- 20:42Think he's great, I like him. He definitely lets people know
- 20:45when he's not pleased about their food.
- 20:48You know, if that's your job, if your job is to, I suppose, food,
- 20:52you know. I think he should come.
- 20:55Yeah, I don't know. I know that this.
- 20:57Is an invite from. Our local celebrity chef, Chef
- 21:01Andrew Zimmern. He's huge.
- 21:03He's a big deal. He's a huge deal.
- 21:06Actually lives very close to my mother.
- 21:09He did. I don't know if.
- 21:10Maybe he moved. He used to live like 2 blocks
- 21:13from my mom. Yeah, he did.
- 21:15We'd drive fast and he'd be out walking his dog and Amber would
- 21:18be like, it's Chef Zimmer, and then she'd roll down the window
- 21:21be like. Hi Chef Zimmer I I would and we
- 21:26was just on our local local morning newscast doing some and
- 21:32I would shout hi Chef Andrew cuz.
- 21:35That's what. He went by Chef Andrew and I
- 21:38think I embarrassed him. I didn't embarrass me.
- 21:41I might have embarrassed you. You.
- 21:42Embarrassed me, but I probably didn't care that much.
- 21:44Yeah, I just thought it was so great cuz he was a celebrity and
- 21:48now like he's huge. Well, huge.
- 21:52If you come from the land of 10,000 lakes and butter
- 21:55sculptures and the greatest State Fair in all the country, I
- 21:59feel like there's a good chance that you can, you know, get
- 22:02famous. Yeah, it worked for him and he
- 22:04was willing to eat all sorts of things or whatever.
- 22:07He. I don't know.
- 22:08Some of the things we ate this year, like we had the the new
- 22:15couple new things that were there, they had there was like
- 22:19was it Flauta's dippers, I think it was called.
- 22:25Those were delicious from El Burrito in West Saint Paul.
- 22:30Yeah, yeah. So future potential sponsor we
- 22:33love. Mexican This sauce was so good
- 22:36and it. Was so good.
- 22:37Their green tomatillo sauce was like who?
- 22:41I could have drank it. Yeah, I I would for sure
- 22:45recommend anyone who is. So good.
- 22:48In the area and looking for some.
- 22:50I guarantee you'll be on the menu.
- 22:52After those six, they don't need us to recommend them, though
- 22:55they're. They.
- 22:56Are institute. But talk about like a win for a
- 23:00business like some of these places.
- 23:02And this is like from my memory, maybe like 10 years ago, there
- 23:06was like a, there was like a financial tracker of who made
- 23:09how much money at the fair and the numbers were bonkers.
- 23:12So I mean like pre COVID, probably 10 years ago, the corn
- 23:16stand, which is one of the things we always get when we go.
- 23:19And we got. We got this year.
- 23:21It's delicious. All they do is cook corn around
- 23:26like wood smoke, wood fire and they serve literally nothing
- 23:31else. So you can either get corn, corn
- 23:33with butter, corn with butter and salt.
- 23:36Oh no, you salt it yourself. Yeah, you salt it and that's it.
- 23:38That's all they do. They like 10 years ago.
- 23:40I think we're making something like $2,000,000 is.
- 23:44It like 5 bucks part your corn or something.
- 23:46It is now, I think it was like 3 then, but so $2,000,000 in 10
- 23:50days and then that was like the number three position of high
- 23:53earners. There is the well loved cookies
- 23:58from Sweet Martha's. Amber just gave a roll eyes
- 24:01because, well. I think they're trash.
- 24:03Well, I know that it's one of the most unpopular opinion for
- 24:08anyone, but they are super, super awful.
- 24:13And then I don't know what the first one is.
- 24:15The first one, mini Donuts or corn dogs or cheese curds.
- 24:19I actually don't know. Oh, it's got to be cheese curds.
- 24:21It's got to be yeah, but I don't know the numbers.
- 24:25I think. I think Sweet Martha's was
- 24:27something like $5,000,000 in 10 days.
- 24:30Yeah, I think they are the top earner, but you also tried
- 24:34something which I thought was, oh, I didn't like it at all.
- 24:37Lemon, strawberry basil lemonade, something like that.
- 24:42Oh yeah, yeah, it was it. Tasted kind of like.
- 24:45Strawberry. That's right, pizza to me.
- 24:46Cold pizza. Yeah, it was not good.
- 24:49That is very the basil was too. Strong tastes like that.
- 24:51I also had. I was I was also carrying cold
- 24:55brew coffee that was Maple Maple syrup, something from the same
- 24:59stand. It was a farmer stand and I
- 25:02thought they were both delicious.
- 25:04I like lemon and basil together. That checks out.
- 25:08I like strawberry and lemon. Together, but not strawberry and
- 25:12Basil. I didn't think I disliked it,
- 25:15but the whole thing combined just really was like, no, I
- 25:18never want to have that again. We did have cheese fruits, Yeah,
- 25:23because you have to have cheese curds if you're going and you.
- 25:25Have to go to the right spot. The mouth trap.
- 25:28The Mousetrap. Which we didn't know was not
- 25:30called the mousetrap. We have it's mouth.
- 25:33MOUTH. Pretty clever.
- 25:35I like. That it is smart.
- 25:37When I realized that was the name, I was like, yeah, you did.
- 25:40Yep. Yeah, you did.
- 25:42Yep, and they start. That's another one.
- 25:44They don't deviate like the big ones that are staples.
- 25:47They just make the one thing like corn is corn on the cob,
- 25:51cheese curds is. Do you want large or small?
- 25:52They don't have different flavors.
- 25:54Sweet Martha's just makes chocolate chip cookies, no
- 25:57other. It's always the same.
- 25:58I think that works for a lot of them, though.
- 26:00To have just like this is the one thing we do.
- 26:03Unless you're already a restaurant, Right?
- 26:05Like I'm gonna say I've never heard of a Sweet Martha bakery
- 26:10outside there. Now, you can buy those cookies
- 26:12at some grocery store. So if anyone's in Minnesota, not
- 26:15during State Fair time, yeah, they sell them frozen.
- 26:19You can bake them yourself. You could do that.
- 26:22You could, but I mean chocolate chip cookies aren't that
- 26:25complicated. No, they're not but you.
- 26:28Make the world's best chocolate chip cookies.
- 26:31I'm not kidding. And no hate or shade to anyone
- 26:34out there that makes chocolate chip cookies that thinks they're
- 26:36the best, you're wrong. Amber's are literally the best.
- 26:40And I am a cookie connoisseur. You are.
- 26:43I have had all the cookies everywhere and they're the best.
- 26:46Thank you. Thank you.
- 26:48By far, Yeah, I mean, but it would be a problem if we had
- 26:51them all the time. As a matter of fact, sometimes
- 26:53when you make them, I eat them so fast you can't even believe
- 26:55your eyes. That wasn't my cookies, but you
- 26:58do eat cookies so fast that it is.
- 27:01It is unbelievable that you can eat stuff that fast.
- 27:04And that's part of the the thing with the State Fair for most
- 27:09people. I don't know anyone who isn't
- 27:11going there to eat stuff. Yes, and for me what I I always
- 27:20like the the amount of food and the grease in the air is super
- 27:24difficult for me and the. Grease in the air.
- 27:27It's. In the air you find it's just
- 27:31it's it's overwhelming and gross and the corn is the refreshing
- 27:36thing. There it is.
- 27:38So that's where one of those times you eat something, you're
- 27:41like, Oh, my stomach actually isn't mad at me.
- 27:44But the thing I felt the fair that I mean, there's many things
- 27:46about the fair I don't like, but the overall thing about the fair
- 27:50is that I feel worse leaving than I did going in.
- 27:56And I feel like that's, you know, like I felt good going in
- 28:01and I left feeling terrible. Is that because your stomach was
- 28:05upset with you? I'm.
- 28:06Just saying in general, my overall mood, everything stomach
- 28:10exhaustion. I mean, you're not known to be a
- 28:13very extra extrovert. Yeah, it's too many.
- 28:16There's a lot of people. As we said, there's a.
- 28:18Lot of people and they're all right there, which just makes
- 28:22sense. That's where they wanna be.
- 28:25But I don't wanna be there. I love it.
- 28:28I love the demo. I get excited when that many
- 28:30people are doing something together.
- 28:32I'm not even kidding. I'm like, I love the socialness
- 28:36of it. Like when I go to a concert or a
- 28:39comedy event or like anything that draws wide swaths of people
- 28:46and demographics into a single place for semi singular
- 28:52enjoyment, I'm like, look at what we can do together.
- 28:55I'm not even kidding. That's the altruisticness that I
- 28:58feel sometimes. Like I'm like, well, look at us.
- 29:01We're all just here to eat food and go on some rides and look at
- 29:05some animals and have a good time.
- 29:08And I think it's wonderful. Well, I think food being a great
- 29:14sense of creating a great sense of community is important.
- 29:17Yes. I don't get warm and fuzzies
- 29:20about the food at the State Fair and all the people getting
- 29:23together at for the food at the State Fair.
- 29:25Deep fried everything. Oh.
- 29:27Yeah, I mean like we. Have literally, I think in our
- 29:29fair deep fried all the stuff like the stuff they do.
- 29:32I'm like, why? Like deep fried Pickles?
- 29:34And I'm sorry for all you deep fried Pickles lover.
- 29:36I like a pickle. I like a pickle.
- 29:38I like a pickle chip. I don't want a deep fried.
- 29:41I feel like though it's the only relief is the fact that there is
- 29:45a pickle inside. There's sure there's a vegetable
- 29:49in there somewhere. Right, right.
- 29:50And some vinegar, some of the the acidity offset.
- 29:53When we decided to deep fry candy bars, we're like, Oh yeah,
- 29:57you think a Snickers bar is bad for you?
- 29:59How about we deep fry that Snickers?
- 30:01Bar the popular thing one year for actually a while is the deep
- 30:04fried Twinkies and I, I never had those.
- 30:07I never had a deep fried candy bar.
- 30:09But you know what I was excited about one year?
- 30:11What they had on a stick. What?
- 30:15Deep fried cookie dough. On a stick.
- 30:19On a stick, That's the other little.
- 30:20Everything's on a stick. Thing we got at the fairs,
- 30:23everything's on a stick. Now ask me about deep fried
- 30:28cookie dough. Will you please tell me about
- 30:30deep fried cookie dough? Well, I like cookie dough.
- 30:35Yeah, we know this in this House.
- 30:36Cookie dough is one of my favorite favorite guilty
- 30:40pleasures. I enjoy that it leads to
- 30:41cookies. Yeah, you know what happens when
- 30:44you fry it? What?
- 30:45It almost becomes a cookie. Oh, that makes sense.
- 30:48Yeah. I don't know why I didn't jump
- 30:49to that conclusion. Reason I didn't come to that
- 30:52conclusion. I was thinking what I was
- 30:53thinking, which was it's gonna be cookie dough with like a
- 30:56fried shell, Yeah. I was so angry I think I stung.
- 31:01Bite and cook it out garbage. It's hilarious.
- 31:04Yeah, yeah. Don't they do?
- 31:06Don't they do deep fried ice cream?
- 31:09Not like like Mexican fried ice cream, but I don't do like a.
- 31:12It's probably like a state. Fair version of fried ice cream
- 31:15on a stick or something. Yeah, I mean, if you're frying
- 31:18anything at a high temperature, but I've learned well, although
- 31:20somehow that Mexican fried ice cream doesn't.
- 31:23I don't know how they do that. I don't know but when you throw
- 31:26I would assume it would probably melt and just be like a liquid
- 31:30bomb or something. But I won't ever have it because
- 31:33dairy is is a no go for me for the most part.
- 31:37So I'll never try deep fried ice cream if that's the thing.
- 31:40It's not worth it. I always have deep fried French
- 31:43fries, which weirdly enough you can get everywhere all the time.
- 31:46I know, but they're they are but.
- 31:47The fries at the the fresh French fries stand at the State
- 31:51Fair is also a tradition and probably one of the high earners
- 31:57because that's all they do. They just make French fries and
- 31:59they pump them out. And I think there's there's two
- 32:02or there are three locations. There's 2 for sure.
- 32:04Yeah. I don't know.
- 32:06I don't know. I like French.
- 32:07Fries and of course the mini Donuts.
- 32:09Oh, you gotta have mini thumb. And then there's a whole debate
- 32:11about all of these things. If there's a competitor like
- 32:14which one's better? There's Tiny Tim's mini Donuts,
- 32:17and then there's Tom Thumbs Mini.
- 32:19There's. Tiny Tim.
- 32:20'S right And there's people who are like Tiny Tim's is the one.
- 32:22No, it's Tom Thumb. I agree Tom Thumb is where it's
- 32:25at, but I've had both and I couldn't tell you because I
- 32:29didn't have both this year. I couldn't tell you what the
- 32:31difference is. I bet if you did one of them
- 32:33blind taste test nobody would know the difference.
- 32:36I doubt it, because there. Are people who would fight over
- 32:38this the. Ones we had were super skinny,
- 32:42yeah, and I feel like I've seen them and had them where they
- 32:46were fat, so maybe that's the difference.
- 32:48Do you like a skinny mini doughnut or fat 1?
- 32:53OK we did have a whole episode on Donuts.
- 32:56We did. So we don't we like Donuts.
- 32:58We do. We do.
- 33:00But yeah, I don't know. That was the one we got and I
- 33:02thought it was good. And the other relief, before we
- 33:05even got into the fair, I was super hungry, which is you
- 33:08shouldn't do. But also, I don't know, maybe
- 33:10you should. I.
- 33:11Sure, should go there hungry. Yeah, because, well, maybe if if
- 33:14your plan is to eat, maybe. That was my plan.
- 33:17But the problem is, like I said, I always feel awful after eating
- 33:21all of the food that you shouldn't really be maybe 1.
- 33:25Well, but that's just due to your stomach's weak
- 33:27constituency. No, I think this is, I feel like
- 33:30maybe there's some good, I don't know, warning signs or whatever
- 33:34it is, like your body should stop.
- 33:37Yeah, it's like grab this much. So beforehand I was like, right,
- 33:40we'll get kettle corn because that feels it's a healthier
- 33:44solution. It's probably not, but it was
- 33:46definitely healthier than everything deep.
- 33:48Fried, you recently discovered that you like to get.
- 33:51Food. How many years did it take?
- 33:53I never 27 years. 27 years, yeah.
- 33:59It's delicious stuff. It is.
- 34:01I was there to eat and I ate all the things.
- 34:05Yeah, so many. I just kept eating.
- 34:07And our child was like, how is he still eating?
- 34:10Yeah, yeah, she felt sick. For you?
- 34:14Well, that's unfortunate. I didn't feel sick for myself.
- 34:18Yeah, I felt very full when we left.
- 34:20I'm sure it was uncomfortable. I had so many.
- 34:24I think I had like 3 different coffee drinks and the lemonade
- 34:29and all the things we've said. I don't know.
- 34:31I think I had most of the no. It's a lot of food.
- 34:35It's a lot. And the corn, all of that too.
- 34:36I don't think you've had anything.
- 34:38Oh, we had some deep fried. What was that stuff?
- 34:44I deep fried tofu I like. Tofu.
- 34:46But I don't like deep fried. Tofu.
- 34:48They also said it was tofuego. It's no offense if any of you
- 34:51watched this that liked it or made it, but Fuego, if you're
- 34:55going to use that word. I think spicy.
- 34:57You need to have some spice and really it was like sweet and
- 34:59sour sauce. Yeah, there was no fire.
- 35:02There was supposed to be. Maybe we misunderstood it,
- 35:05Maybe. But it was maybe.
- 35:07Maybe Fuego as in fire like it's hot.
- 35:09Like it's not cold tofu. Oh, maybe or or like that's
- 35:15fire. Not like that spicy.
- 35:18I see. Yeah, I don't know.
- 35:20It was to me not good. But yeah, we had lots of food.
- 35:25And the the reality is, so hearing all of these, what did
- 35:29we say? Like 15 items or something
- 35:31boners. This was in three hours.
- 35:35Yeah. So again, I don't think, I think
- 35:39the evolution of my body saying that that's wrong is is right
- 35:44because you also had some ice cream thing too.
- 35:46I did. Oh, that's right.
- 35:48That was one of the new things this year.
- 35:50Yeah. I didn't like that at all.
- 35:51It was called sour apple sucker ice cream or something.
- 35:56Also, again not fair 'cause I can't do dairy but I was it was
- 36:00immediately some things that no not worth.
- 36:03It I liked it a lot. It had caramel in it.
- 36:04It was delicious. I like caramel.
- 36:06Caramel's good, but well. So long as you don't say
- 36:10caramel. OK, now they're debates for.
- 36:17We could debate that, probably. We could add it.
- 36:20I don't know why it's not on our list.
- 36:25Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I'm.
- 36:26I'm glad you got to go. I'm a little bummed we didn't do
- 36:30any rides. I understand though, because you
- 36:33know, everyone had too much food and the.
- 36:36Rides. Sick The rides at the fair are
- 36:39are like I feel like they're more intense even if they're not
- 36:44as big as they would be at like our bigger fair valley fair
- 36:48which has like big roller coasters for you out of Staters
- 36:51like Six Flags would be a similar comparison.
- 36:55Those rides are super fun but they also last longer so they
- 36:59don't have to be as quickly dramatic as like a fair ride
- 37:02does. Cuz these fair rides are like, I
- 37:06mean within 30 seconds you're like drunk like what happened to
- 37:10me. You break.
- 37:11It's all struck around. And also, I don't trust those
- 37:13things. They're getting put up and taken
- 37:15down. There was one like some County
- 37:17Fair where one of the the, I think it's called the zipper,
- 37:20which I used to love. Like someone either got severely
- 37:24injured or died like in some other state years ago.
- 37:28This is probably 10 years ago. I had a panic attack on the
- 37:30zipper ride. I know it was awful.
- 37:33I'm never and I've never. Wanted to do it almost puked
- 37:36from going on the zipper cuz it was like you know how like when
- 37:39you go to I mean I think probably most, well maybe not
- 37:43maybe I'm crazy. So I feel like this is a most
- 37:46people, but it could be a just me situation.
- 37:47Like, if you go on enough rides that, like, do crazy things to
- 37:51your equilibrium and spin you in circles and flip you around, if
- 37:54you go on enough rides in succession, your body is like,
- 37:59hey, bro, yeah, you should stop because we're going to fall
- 38:03apart soon. That's what happened to me.
- 38:04And that's actually probably one of the last times I went on a
- 38:06bunch of rides in a row because I felt like I was very close to
- 38:10vomiting. Well, and there's something at
- 38:13the back of your head now there's any scientist listening
- 38:17could probably explain this. Oh.
- 38:19I have some cousins that are sciency.
- 38:21Yeah, maybe they know this, but as you get older, there's like a
- 38:25ball at the back of your head. Like a bone.
- 38:28I think it's a bone but it gets harder and that thing makes it.
- 38:32This is what I've heard. Wow, watch just be completely
- 38:34wrong. I hope it's like a diamond
- 38:36legend. But, and I'm just spreading the
- 38:41misinformation for sure, but one of the reasons why rides are
- 38:44harder as you get older is because the thing gets harder.
- 38:49I know you're more liquid. Now I want to know, and I hope
- 38:52that someone listening says here's what it is.
- 38:55Either that's totally made-up or here's the truth about it.
- 38:58Yeah. Yeah, I feel like whoever told
- 39:00me I felt like must have had a strong enough bit of influence
- 39:04over me that I thought they were right.
- 39:07Because I, I do recall that. And I was like, that makes some
- 39:09sense because I used to love rice as a kid.
- 39:11And now as an adult, I'm like, no, the whipping around is no
- 39:15longer enjoyable. I do hear that from most people
- 39:18that as they get older, like I can't do that anymore, yeah.
- 39:22Yeah, it's sad. It makes me want to go ride a
- 39:24bunch of rides and see how long I can last.
- 39:28It does like maybe we should do that later this year we'll go to
- 39:31Valley Fair. Look, I'm dead.
- 39:34Well, Valley Scare. Valley Scare is fun.
- 39:37You like that Halloween themed stuff that is.
- 39:40Very niche for the Minnesota market.
- 39:41But it's true, I bet you we can have some Halloween themed
- 39:46episode coming up soon as the fall season.
- 39:50Gets upon us. I think I have probably a month
- 39:52of Spooky A. Whole month.
- 39:55Yeah. I think our house decorations.
- 39:57I don't. Well, hey, we'll let them.
- 39:59That's a month away. That's true.
- 40:01We'll figure it out. I don't know what's.
- 40:03That promise? What's not spooky?
- 40:06Agree. Minnesota get together, I just
- 40:09love it. I just hate it.
- 40:10Oh oh, if I never have to go again, it would be perfect.
- 40:16So, Amber, let me ask you a question.
- 40:22Curveballs on episode 10. And now the moment you've all
- 40:27been waiting for in this corner, we have Luke sporting his red
- 40:31beard. And for those who are watching,
- 40:33he's done a little different shaping, which I think is very
- 40:37nice. And he has come today with three
- 40:42wins and four losses. We have a tie and our last
- 40:48episode's still out there. But Luke, you're going to need
- 40:51all of the fighting today in you because I don't know what your
- 40:56question is going to be. No, you don't.
- 41:00Anything about the State Fair. I'm so over it.
- 41:04So there you go. Well, in this corner we have
- 41:09Amber claiming to weigh in at 135 lbs, who has somehow, yet
- 41:14again today, brought all of that beauty and hotness that just
- 41:19knocks me out all the time. And I think you're going to need
- 41:23that even to win over some of the listeners in this one
- 41:26because the State Fair is a big deal.
- 41:28So here's the question, should you go back to the great
- 41:33Minnesota get together? No, no, no, I should not go back
- 41:39to the great Minnesota get together.
- 41:42And I'll see you try to convince our audience.
- 41:44I'll tell you why. So walk in the door or gate,
- 41:50it's like 60 bucks for three people.
- 41:53That's $20 per person. That's a lot of money to just
- 41:56walk in. What do you get for free?
- 41:58I don't remember getting anything for free in the State
- 42:01Fair, so I'm spending money to walk in and spend a ton more
- 42:07money. I said a year of corn, $5.
- 42:11I think that is probably the most economical item out there,
- 42:15but I could be wrong. Oh no, they have milk for what,
- 42:18$3? Is it $3?
- 42:21What it? Yeah.
- 42:21And it was refillable milk for last week and $30.
- 42:24Yes, it was. Yes.
- 42:26It was. Now, I do know that the price of
- 42:28food has gone up, but it's always been high-priced.
- 42:31I got a grandpa line for you when I was a little boy.
- 42:35The milk was 1/4. And it probably was, I think
- 42:40when we brought our child there the first time, it was a dollar.
- 42:43But now, yeah, $3. And I'm not surprised because
- 42:47like the price of milk, like everything, whatever, whatever
- 42:50you're thinking, I think we all can agree that the price of food
- 42:53has gone up. However, it is so astronomically
- 42:58high, I don't even want to look at our account to see how much
- 43:03we spent between the seven places.
- 43:06I bet we spent $200 on three hours worth of food.
- 43:10So we spent $60 to get in to spend $200 on food, which made
- 43:17me feel sick, made our child feel sick, made you OK.
- 43:23But it was just crowded and the oh loud and people and a bunch
- 43:30of stuff I didn't want to do anyhow.
- 43:33And that makes me not want to go back because I know that that's
- 43:37always going to be the scenario I have.
- 43:39Seriously, like I said before, never felt better leaving than I
- 43:44did when I got there. And there's so many things in
- 43:47life that I could spend $20 on and feel better after I leave,
- 43:51so even if it were free, I still don't know that I would.
- 43:55I know I wouldn't want to. I feel like I could easily get a
- 43:58free ticket one way or another. And I still don't want to go
- 44:01because it's still going to be crowded, still going to be
- 44:03expensive. I'm still going to be waiting in
- 44:05line. I'm still going to be sick to my
- 44:07stomach. I'm still definitely not going
- 44:09to want to ride any rides. I don't want to go in the animal
- 44:12buildings because while I love animals, they smell terrible.
- 44:15And terrible smell on a full stomach is not a good.
- 44:19A full sick feeling stomach is not awesome.
- 44:23Let's see the stuff that they also sell there for a lot of
- 44:26those vendors. I, I, I really personally can't
- 44:30afford a hot tub, but I know that that's one of the, you
- 44:32know, that's a common stand there every year.
- 44:35Hot tub. Great if you can.
- 44:36And if that's where you're going to look for it, I feel like that
- 44:39probably wouldn't be the draw. Let's go to the State Fair to
- 44:42buy a hot tub. But works for somebody or
- 44:44windows or all sorts of things. And there's a lot of things I
- 44:49just like, you just see people and they do things that you
- 44:54don't like. There's stands that maybe don't,
- 44:57you know, you're like, cool, I would totally be fine.
- 44:59Everybody's entitled to their own opinion, but there's a lot
- 45:02of political stuff there. And if it's something you agree
- 45:05with, you're like, woohoo. If it's something you don't,
- 45:07you're like, all of you people are awful, you know, So like
- 45:10there's so much generalization, at least for me, because I am a
- 45:13judgy person and I just, it's, it's I'm, it's too much for me,
- 45:20someone like me who just judges and hates crowds and really
- 45:26like, I prefer, I don't always eat well.
- 45:30OK, so I'll take that. Like I, I know I eat pretty
- 45:33horribly, but I really try to avoid eating in a way that hurts
- 45:41my stomach all the time. It's just not fun.
- 45:45So really, I can't think of a fun thing at the fair except for
- 45:51that you enjoy going. But I feel like I don't need to
- 45:55be there for that because we just spent more money because
- 46:00getting someone who's just going to be cranky.
- 46:02And by the way, the last time we went to the fair, just the other
- 46:06day, you said something about the parking lot.
- 46:08And I am going to say I the whole time we were there, I was
- 46:12in AI was I think I was being a good.
- 46:17I don't know what the word is. I'm looking for companion.
- 46:20I don't think it was raining on your parade.
- 46:21I was trying to keep all the rain on the inside.
- 46:23He's going to probably disagree. With that I was trying to keep
- 46:26it. All and just be like happy.
- 46:28Forever keep the rain on the inside.
- 46:30Keep the rain on the inside. And you know, I don't know, I
- 46:34was trying to be cooperative and all that stuff, but one of the
- 46:38things, and you said we were going to talk about a little bit
- 46:39later and we did it, but I dropped my wallet at the very
- 46:44end. And the second I realized, I
- 46:49said to myself, self, you know, if you're ever reunited with
- 46:54your wallet, it will be empty of cash, of course.
- 46:58And that just seemed factual to me.
- 47:00But I was really hoping that I'd be able to find it and at least
- 47:05have my card and my ID 'cause I bring very little.
- 47:08Again, knowing that things easily fall.
- 47:11And so we had to go back in. So we had already paid the park.
- 47:14Then we had to go back through the crowded like.
- 47:17We didn't pay again. No, we didn't have to pay again.
- 47:20There was a very nice, I don't know what her job was, but there
- 47:24was a very nice woman who let us go back to the parking lot and
- 47:28we told her, hey, I lost my wallet.
- 47:31It might be in the parking lot. And she looked at us.
- 47:33She's like, I'm not gonna spoil your day, but you're not finding
- 47:36your luck. Good luck.
- 47:38We were out there with flashlights.
- 47:40Thank you. I will say thank you.
- 47:42I didn't did not ask Luke to come out with me.
- 47:45I didn't expect that he would. And he's like, of course I'm
- 47:48going. And that was, that was.
- 47:50Nice and. Well, I was we.
- 47:53Were like maybe I should go back and I'm like let's go.
- 47:57Yeah, Well, yeah. But Long story short about all
- 48:01of that, I did say thank you, didn't I?
- 48:03OK, Long story short about all of that, I I called the State
- 48:08Fair, lost and found, you know, that night.
- 48:10And they're like, Nope, nothing showed up.
- 48:13And I thought I don't want to go back in the morning, but
- 48:16cancelled my credit card. I called the next morning,
- 48:19'cause this we went on the last day, called the next morning and
- 48:22they said, well, no, nothing's turned up.
- 48:24And so then I'm like, oh great, you know, whatever, get ready to
- 48:27go do the things you need to do once you've lost your wallet, IE
- 48:30get a new ID, get your a new credit card, all of that check
- 48:34card. Check card.
- 48:35Yeah, you're ready. Yeah, whatever.
- 48:37They don't care, but I don't think they do.
- 48:41But then as I was going to leave, I get a phone call and
- 48:45they say we found your wallet. It doesn't have everything you
- 48:49were expecting in it. But you know what, honestly, I
- 48:52am so grateful because even though I didn't have the cash in
- 48:56there, which is kind of, I mean, what I didn't expect it to be in
- 48:59there. I mean, we were looking in trash
- 49:00bins. We really did.
- 49:01We thought someone would take the money and just dump it, and
- 49:05I think that's probably what happened.
- 49:07But for me, like getting a new ID, just like thinking about how
- 49:10awful that would be. But also the wallet, well, it
- 49:13wasn't the most expensive thing in the world for me.
- 49:18I really liked my wallet. I got it in Mexico and it was
- 49:22very bright. It was yes, that.
- 49:25The shipping was expensive. Yeah, I sell very cheap, but
- 49:29also to me very one-of-a-kind and convenient.
- 49:32So I was most excited about getting that or my ID, I don't
- 49:35know which. So that was kind of the final
- 49:37damper, but I didn't think it was awful going back and walking
- 49:43around when there weren't people around.
- 49:45So I don't know. So an empty fair is a good fair.
- 49:48An empty fair is a happy fair for me.
- 49:52So for you I. Don't want to relive in that
- 49:53experience the. Answer should you go back is no,
- 49:56no. OK, Well for me the answer is
- 50:00obvious at this point it's yes. And I guess I'll just counter
- 50:05because I can't remember all the things you said.
- 50:06You said many things but you actually do like going to the
- 50:11mouth trap and getting that fine bucket O cheese curds, which is
- 50:15probably the one thing that messes up your stomach because
- 50:19of all the cheese and the fries and the fry.
- 50:23But as a person who is lactose intolerant, I imagine cheese
- 50:27while it is not the same level of problem for you as like milk,
- 50:31it's still dairy. So, you know, that might have
- 50:34something to do with it. I mean, and I've already
- 50:37illustrated many of the reasons to go to the fair.
- 50:41I missed out on a lot because our State Fair is so big and so
- 50:45full of content. There's like a lot of local like
- 50:49organizations and out state organizations that you can learn
- 50:53more about there. There's like little booths where
- 50:55you can interact with like people from the Farmers Union
- 50:59and well, I mean, seriously, people do this.
- 51:03That's one of the reasons it's popular.
- 51:05I You can buy not just hot tubs, but you can buy tractors at the
- 51:09state. Paris Neither are you.
- 51:12But people do go there for that. And you don't.
- 51:15We're not have farmers. There's lots of like, like fun
- 51:19other stuff. One of the things that our
- 51:21daughter and I did together was go to the haunted house.
- 51:24That's a staple at the Minnesota State Fair.
- 51:26It's been there forever. And it's like, you know, any
- 51:29haunted house, it's, it's dark and it's got spooky music and
- 51:32there's people that jump out of corners they're not supposed to
- 51:35be in. And there's like, you know,
- 51:37creepy things and gory things. And it was fun to go through
- 51:41that with her. We have a friend who's worked at
- 51:44every year for, I want to say 20 years.
- 51:46OK, that's pretty cool. Shout out to you.
- 51:49If you listen, you know who you are.
- 51:51I will say there's every day for large portions of the day, there
- 51:56is music at many of the different like they have, I want
- 52:02to say it's like 8 different music venues, the grandstands,
- 52:06the big one where like the, you know, the big name people go.
- 52:09But there's also like, I think I think there is maybe like 5 or 6
- 52:13or seven other little like kind of a little bandstand where they
- 52:18have regional and smaller acts come and play and those are
- 52:23free. And the well, the the the babies
- 52:31where they do the whole where they have like the the cow
- 52:34babies. Miracle of birth.
- 52:35Miracle of birth center and like sheep babies and pig babies and
- 52:39all these little farm animals they have like in a exhibit
- 52:45where they have either given birth live, which is gross but
- 52:50cool, or you get to see them, you know, like a day or two
- 52:55later. And then these little cute
- 52:56little creatures that's free also to go into and educational.
- 53:01I've known people who've worked at that building, veterinarians.
- 53:05And there's the Coliseum where you can go watch different types
- 53:09of competitions like horse and I bet you they have like full
- 53:13blown rodeos where people are getting chased by bulls and
- 53:16stuff. So there's lots of stuff you
- 53:19could do for free there. And then like you said, I think
- 53:24one of the reasons that people go is to spend time with each
- 53:27other. And it's something that only
- 53:29lasts for 10 days. So, you know, it's not like you
- 53:33know, you could do it whenever you want and it and it is a big
- 53:37deal. It's a place where you can try
- 53:39stuff that isn't stuff you can try a lot of times the rest of
- 53:42the year with the weird foods. But it's one of the kitschy
- 53:46little fun things to do at the fair.
- 53:48And there's a lot of stuff for like smaller kids and bigger
- 53:54kids and adults as far as like rides and entertainment go.
- 53:58They have so that where the main rides are, we call it the midway
- 54:03because I don't know why it's called that, but that's what
- 54:05it's called. They also have kid way there
- 54:08which has like real small versions of the same rides in
- 54:12some cases where like the little you know, the little I don't
- 54:17know how big little 2 foot 3 foot humans can go have a little
- 54:21fun time. Did you see those rides?
- 54:24They're actually. Pretty big.
- 54:26Well, that's not kid way. No kid way.
- 54:28There's an in between 1:00, there's like an even smaller one
- 54:31anyway, So for all sizes, there's like fun stuff to do,
- 54:35kid. The little kids are free.
- 54:38You have to buy tickets obviously for any of the big
- 54:40stuff. But so I mean, that's just some
- 54:43of the stuff like off the top of my head.
- 54:44They also have like history exhibits there of like Minnesota
- 54:48in general and they have history of the State Fair.
- 54:52I've heard people talk about that.
- 54:54And I also have, like you said, I mean like there's so much to
- 54:57do. It's a really big space.
- 54:59It's gotta be. I don't think it's a square
- 55:02mile, but it's probably like a square half a mile maybe.
- 55:04I have no idea. It's a pretty big area and so
- 55:08there's a lot of walking, which is technically good for you, but
- 55:12yeah, but you're probably eating, eating the food to
- 55:16overtake the good walking habits.
- 55:18Yeah, like I. Am for sure.
- 55:21Yeah, I don't think that you get to walk off the calories, no, at
- 55:25the fair. It's, I mean, anyway, so there's
- 55:28a reason that it's the biggest daily attendance fair in the
- 55:34country. There's a reason that it's
- 55:36called the Great Minnesota Get Together.
- 55:39There is a reason that people just go back year after year
- 55:43after year. It's because there's a lot to do
- 55:46and it's a lot of fun. And sure, it's expensive, but
- 55:51anything today, if you're going to spend a day with your family
- 55:54doing something at an event, it's going to cost you some
- 55:56money. It might not cost you that much,
- 55:58but if you figure in like let's say it was, you're going to go
- 56:02have a meal out and go to some attraction.
- 56:06If you added the expense of those, it's probably less than
- 56:09the State Fair, but it's also nowhere near the breadth of an
- 56:14experience. Like you're not going to go to
- 56:16like like a, like a, like a petting zoo and a restaurant,
- 56:20which is going to cost you. Who knows?
- 56:22It's going to cost you a hundred $150.00 or something.
- 56:25But you can't also go see live animals, live shows, live music.
- 56:31I hope the animals are live at a petting zoo.
- 56:34No, no, the I'm sorry, live birth.
- 56:36I'm sorry, like so and like all the other stuff and the rides
- 56:41and like you can't you can't do all that stuff there.
- 56:45And that's one of the reasons the State Fair is so popular as
- 56:48you can do everything at the fair your face right now.
- 56:53I went to a dark place. You sent me to a dark place of.
- 56:55Course you did. Yeah.
- 56:56Yeah. Thankfully, you've withheld the
- 56:59joke that might be lying in there somewhere.
- 57:01In any event, I think that most of our Minnesota viewers
- 57:06probably will agree that you should go back to the fair
- 57:09because it changes a little bit every year.
- 57:12But there's also tradition. And our family has gone there
- 57:16not every year because you don't love it, but many years we've
- 57:20gone there. Even though you and I grew up,
- 57:22you know, blocks or short distances away from there and
- 57:25went a lot as kids, It's still. I didn't call a.
- 57:29Lot Oh, I went a lot. It's probably because I was so
- 57:31close anyway, so it's a great experience.
- 57:35There's there's nothing like it that I know of like anywhere all
- 57:41year. And if you went to all those
- 57:43places you talked about expense, if you went to like a
- 57:47veterinarian place where they deal with livestock and you went
- 57:50to a live concert and you went to a petting zoo and you went
- 57:54out for a meal or two and you went to a place that had rides,
- 57:58you would spend well over what you would spend in a day at the
- 58:01fair. That is for sure accurate.
- 58:05And most importantly, and the reason I like to go back, aside
- 58:09from the the food stuff, I wouldn't go on my own, is
- 58:12because I like spending time with you and our child where we
- 58:16could do something special and different together as a family.
- 58:20So I think that's the argument for me really.
- 58:27I really have like 75,000,000 more things that I want.
- 58:31Let's keep it to 1. The other thing I.
- 58:40Wow, you're really struggling over there.
- 58:41No I mean it's cuz there's so many things I just I just
- 58:44dislike the fair. Oh, they know.
- 58:47And and like, just because it's called the Great Minnesota gets.
- 58:52The Great Minnesota get together.
- 58:54But like, things that are great aren't always good.
- 58:58Sure. So I mean, like, you hear it as
- 59:03great. It's fun.
- 59:04I hear it as great. Like Great Depression, you know.
- 59:07Oh. My goodness.
- 59:08Huge. There's a lot for any of.
- 59:10Our viewers out there that are in the 100 plus year old
- 59:14demographic, I'm sorry to have offended you.
- 59:18That you lived. Through this.
- 59:20No, I'm just saying I see it as great as just as large.
- 59:23Not that it's good, but I know people love it and I'm happy for
- 59:27those who love it. And I think people who love it
- 59:29should go, yeah, I think people who don't love it shouldn't
- 59:35because I feel like we take away from your experience.
- 59:38You don't, you add to it. Is that your last little little
- 59:43jab you had to throw in I? Don't want to go again.
- 59:45Ever again, ever again. Ever again.
- 59:47Ever again, ever again. Yes, that.
- 59:50Now it is. Thank you.
- 59:51Wait. I really don't want to go back.
- 59:54I imagine there's things that I do in the interests of you want
- 1:00:00to do it. That being said, it would be on
- 1:00:03a future debate. This one is wrapped up lady.
- 1:00:06It's. Over thankfully, like the State
- 1:00:09Fair for the year. The State Fair is over, just
- 1:00:12ended. Yeah.
- 1:00:13So that's it for the debate. Make sure you go and vote for
- 1:00:20who the winner ought to be. You can vote many different
- 1:00:24ways. You can vote directly in the
- 1:00:25poll on Spotify. Yeah, where you can also watch
- 1:00:28video of this podcast and you can find it on all the podcast
- 1:00:36places. Yeah, where you can vote on
- 1:00:39different social media links like it's.
- 1:00:41Well, you'll find it. We put it in all of our stuff.
- 1:00:44Yeah, Follow Yeah. Share, Share and rate.
