- 0:10Speaker 1: Hi, my name is Jennifer Lawrence.
- 0:13Speaker 2: And you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:25Speaker 3: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:28Speaker 3: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences
- 0:31Speaker 3: and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:43Speaker 4: It's showtime, folks.
- 0:46Speaker 5: Enjoy the show.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:24Speaker 6: Why were you two fighting?
- 1:26Speaker 4: Well, I said that the Kirby Silver Surfer was the
- 1:28Speaker 4: only real Silver Surfer, and.
- 1:30Speaker 6: That the Mobius Silver Surfer was shit.
- 1:32Speaker 5: And Benefield's a big Mobius fan.
- 1:34Speaker 7: Things got out of hand.
- 1:35Speaker 6: I pushed him, he pushed me. I lost my head, sir.
- 1:38Speaker 8: I'm sorry.
- 1:39Speaker 6: Rivetti, you're a supervisor. You can get a commission like that.
- 1:44Speaker 7: I know it, sir.
- 1:44Speaker 9: You're 100% right. It's never happened again, all right?
- 1:48Speaker 1: It better not happen again. I see this kind of nonsense,
- 1:50Speaker 1: I'm going to write you up. You understand?
- 1:52Speaker 9: Do you understand?
- 1:52Speaker 6: Yes, sir.
- 1:53Speaker 9: You have to set an example, even in the face
- 1:54Speaker 9: of stupidity.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Now, everybody that reads.
- 1:56Speaker 9: Comic books knows that Kirby Silver Surfer is the only
- 1:59Speaker 9: true Silver Surfer.
- 2:00Speaker 5: Now, am I right or wrong?
- 2:01Speaker 6: You're right, sir.
- 2:04Speaker 3: All right. Get out of here.
- 2:12Speaker 9: What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I'm Lucy.
- 2:14Speaker 7: I'm Lucy.
- 2:15Speaker 9: And we are sitting in a parking lot. Do you
- 2:19Speaker 9: want to?
- 2:19Speaker 7: I think that's the most thorough way that you could
- 2:22Speaker 7: explain the situation.
- 2:23Speaker 9: I kind of like this. I mean, we've done many
- 2:25Speaker 9: a parking lot review and, you know, we've done entire
- 2:29Speaker 9: episodes in parking lots before. I actually think the sound's
- 2:32Speaker 9: really good in the vehicle. So I sort of support
- 2:35Speaker 9: that because it's loud and noisy out in the world.
- 2:37Speaker 9: And at least in the car, you can kind of
- 2:38Speaker 9: close it, you know, so. Yeah.
- 2:40Speaker 7: And it's reminding me of Lebowski Fest.
- 2:42Speaker 9: See, there you go. That's another one of those.
- 2:44Speaker 7: Days gone by.
- 2:45Speaker 9: So there's, yeah, there's many, many fun episodes in a car.
- 2:48Speaker 9: But this one, I just thought we'd, you know, kind
- 2:50Speaker 9: of get rolling into this episode. Eventually, we're going to
- 2:53Speaker 9: venture out into a hotel room. But, you know, we'll
- 2:56Speaker 9: get to that later. Before that, I believe I was
- 3:00Speaker 9: going to throw out some sort of geek activity. You've
- 3:03Speaker 9: got a better one.
- 3:05Speaker 7: No, I want to hear your geek activity.
- 3:07Speaker 9: I just was trying to think of something I've watched.
- 3:09Speaker 9: And there's those movies that, like, especially in the geek circles,
- 3:12Speaker 9: that you'll hear people talk about. And they will go
- 3:15Speaker 9: on and on about it. And you'll finally see it.
- 3:17Speaker 9: And half the time you're like, what the hell are
- 3:18Speaker 9: they all talking about? I've just last week saw Holy Motors.
- 3:25Speaker 7: Oh, well, you can't talk about this.
- 3:26Speaker 9: Have you not seen it?
- 3:27Speaker 7: I haven't. I'm seeing it on Monday.
- 3:29Speaker 9: Okay.
- 3:29Speaker 7: I'm seeing it on Monday on the big screen.
- 3:32Speaker 9: I'm going to spoil it right now.
- 3:33Speaker 2: No, no, no, no.
- 3:33Speaker 7: Should I leave the car?
- 3:34Speaker 9: There's a car involved. That's the motors part. It was
- 3:39Speaker 9: in the title. I didn't really spoil it. But, yeah,
- 3:43Speaker 9: do you want me to just not even tell you
- 3:45Speaker 9: my feelings upon it?
- 3:47Speaker 7: No, you can tell me your feelings. are you are
- 3:50Speaker 7: you gonna say something that's gonna crush me because i'm
- 3:52Speaker 7: literally living for this.
- 3:54Speaker 9: But i guess i could totally set up your expectations
- 3:56Speaker 9: because i'm gonna do what everybody else did uh they
- 3:57Speaker 9: were right oh okay awesome i was just like the
- 4:00Speaker 9: i was like holy shit like this is really good
- 4:03Speaker 9: like i was i was i didn't really know what
- 4:06Speaker 9: i was expecting i knew it was kind of a
- 4:08Speaker 9: weird structure and it you know was was impressive to
- 4:13Speaker 9: most you know hardcore like film geeks so Again, sometimes
- 4:17Speaker 9: things get talked up a little too much and I
- 4:19Speaker 9: go in with, you know, these expectations and it doesn't
- 4:21Speaker 9: live up to this one totally. I mean, it's weird.
- 4:24Speaker 9: It definitely has its arty, arty moments. But you're reading
- 4:28Speaker 9: a French movie. So if you're not, you know, you
- 4:30Speaker 9: should know that going in you're going to get arty.
- 4:32Speaker 9: But it's also got like, I mean, there are times
- 4:34Speaker 9: when I'm just like, this is possibly the best. There's
- 4:38Speaker 9: no way they could do this scene better. Like this
- 4:40Speaker 9: is amazing right now. So you have good things awaiting you.
- 4:44Speaker 7: I almost drove to Pittsburgh to see it. I know.
- 4:47Speaker 7: I mean, I've been dying to see this film.
- 4:49Speaker 9: Yeah, I don't know what all, because they were going
- 4:51Speaker 9: to play it at home too, and it got canceled
- 4:54Speaker 9: the last minute. So I don't know what was going
- 4:57Speaker 9: on with the distribution kind of thing, but yeah, it's
- 5:00Speaker 9: been really weird. So yeah, I will be interested to
- 5:04Speaker 9: hear your thoughts on it more elaborately. We probably could
- 5:08Speaker 9: do a.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Whole episode on it now.
- 5:09Speaker 9: Know probably about it we could definitely do a whole
- 5:12Speaker 9: episode on it but i guess we will come back
- 5:14Speaker 9: to that later so what's your geek activity.
- 5:18Speaker 7: Well see i didn't even know this qualified as a
- 5:19Speaker 7: geek activity until you told me it was a geek
- 5:22Speaker 7: activity i thought it was a really cool thing i
- 5:24Speaker 7: did with my day.
- 5:25Speaker 9: And again that's a fine line because i don't think
- 5:28Speaker 9: geeky is a bad thing and that's why i keep
- 5:30Speaker 9: referring to us that way it's it's a specific thing But.
- 5:35Speaker 7: This isn't like movie geekery.
- 5:37Speaker 9: I think geek applies to many, many forms of dorkisms.
- 5:42Speaker 9: This one probably spills a little more into the dorky side.
- 5:44Speaker 9: I'm pretty sure that's where you're leading with this, frankly.
- 5:48Speaker 9: All right.
- 5:49Speaker 7: Well, I did this really awesome thing that wasn't even
- 5:53Speaker 7: remotely dorky. I, this is the fourth year in Lexington, Kentucky.
- 5:57Speaker 7: I know that this is like actually a worldwide phenomenon.
- 6:00Speaker 7: They do these all over the place, but in Lexington,
- 6:03Speaker 7: it's the fourth year of the tweed ride. So, and
- 6:06Speaker 7: is that a snicker that you just, yes, that was,
- 6:09Speaker 7: you just swallowed a snicker.
- 6:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 6:13Speaker 7: You get dressed up in your finest tweed.
- 6:15Speaker 9: I'm trying not to say get your tweed on, but
- 6:17Speaker 9: go ahead.
- 6:18Speaker 7: And you go out and you do very civilized things. Actually, no,
- 6:22Speaker 7: you just drink a lot. But the idea initially was
- 6:26Speaker 7: that we would get on our bikes and drive around
- 6:29Speaker 7: town in our tweed.
- 6:30Speaker 9: Old-timey bikes.
- 6:31Speaker 7: Old-timey, well, I mean, some, yes. There is a competition
- 6:35Speaker 7: for best bike, and that typically goes to something vintage.
- 6:40Speaker 9: Somebody who spent $ 10, 000 on a bike.
- 6:42Speaker 7: Right, who's, yeah.
- 6:43Speaker 9: Restored a turn-of-the-century Schwinn.
- 6:46Speaker 7: Right. And I guess maybe that first year there was
- 6:51Speaker 7: talk about doing like a croquet and that sort of thing.
- 6:53Speaker 7: I don't think any of that ever happens. You just
- 6:55Speaker 7: kind of stop places, you take some pictures, and then.
- 6:57Speaker 9: You drink some. This sounds like an event for fancy lads.
- 7:00Speaker 7: And lasses.
- 7:01Speaker 9: Man, oh man, I hate fancy lads.
- 7:05Speaker 7: Wait, I don't know that reference.
- 7:06Speaker 9: I believe it's, I think it's actually from Cabin Boy,
- 7:10Speaker 9: if I'm not mistaken. I think I'm quoting.
- 7:13Speaker 7: Devastated that I didn't... I think I'm quoting.
- 7:14Speaker 9: The one and only movie appearance of David Letterman when
- 7:18Speaker 9: he also says, want to buy a monkey?
- 7:20Speaker 5: Oh.
- 7:21Speaker 9: So, you know, I could be wrong on that, but
- 7:24Speaker 9: I do remember... Quite often him going, man, oh, man,
- 7:26Speaker 9: I hate fancy lads.
- 7:28Speaker 7: See, I didn't even know. He always says that one
- 7:30Speaker 7: about a monkey line on his show, and I didn't
- 7:32Speaker 7: realize that that's.
- 7:33Speaker 9: I think maybe he's stealing from the movie. He's quoting himself.
- 7:37Speaker 9: Because everybody liked it so much. I don't know. Okay, wait,
- 7:39Speaker 9: they didn't like the movie, but they liked his two
- 7:41Speaker 9: minutes in there. Honey. Okay, back to your story.
- 7:45Speaker 7: I mean, that's really all there is to it. Unfortunately,
- 7:49Speaker 7: I didn't plan this. Usually I go with, you know, okay,
- 7:53Speaker 7: so we all meet at a bar. But you have
- 7:55Speaker 7: to ride your bicycle from your home to the bar.
- 8:00Speaker 7: And once you get to the bar, then there's safety
- 8:02Speaker 7: in numbers. You're a bunch of weirdos dressed up riding
- 8:06Speaker 7: around town.
- 8:06Speaker 9: At least you're almost like a biker gang. Yeah. You're
- 8:09Speaker 9: a tweed-covered biker gang.
- 8:11Speaker 7: The most sissified biker gang.
- 8:14Speaker 9: But, I mean, you can do your old-timey boxing and
- 8:16Speaker 9: your hands off that lassie. And then you fix your
- 8:20Speaker 9: handlebar mustache and you go to the fightin's.
- 8:22Speaker 6: Okay.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:23Speaker 7: Well, I had to ride my bike by myself from
- 8:25Speaker 7: my house to the bar. And I was literally... There
- 8:28Speaker 7: was a point where I was literally chased down the
- 8:31Speaker 7: street by children throwing things at me.
- 8:33Speaker 9: Like... I like these kids.
- 8:38Speaker 7: No, there was one kid, all I heard, and I
- 8:40Speaker 7: couldn't catch on to what they were saying at first.
- 8:42Speaker 7: And then I finally realized they were saying, knock her
- 8:44Speaker 7: off her bike. Knock her off her bike. And I
- 8:47Speaker 7: wasn't ever, fortunately, I was never bullied in school. But
- 8:51Speaker 7: all of a sudden, I know what this whole bully
- 8:54Speaker 7: phenomenon was about. And I felt like a 10-year-old girl
- 8:57Speaker 7: that was going to burst out crying. People kept calling
- 9:01Speaker 7: me Mary Poppins.
- 9:02Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 9:04Speaker 7: I mean, I've never experienced anything like it. So, yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 7: everybody that I passed.
- 9:08Speaker 9: This is a rough neighborhood you live in.
- 9:09Speaker 7: It actually is.
- 9:10Speaker 9: I've seen it.
- 9:12Speaker 7: You've been there.
- 9:13Speaker 9: It's a scary neighborhood. I wouldn't go scary. But I
- 9:15Speaker 9: live in the ghetto, so.
- 9:17Speaker 7: But, yeah, apparently it's a little rougher than I knew.
- 9:20Speaker 7: Apparently you don't know how rough your neighborhood is until
- 9:22Speaker 7: you drive down the street on a bicycle looking like
- 9:25Speaker 7: Mary Poppins.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Literally a Mary.
- 9:27Speaker 7: So, there you go. I was humble today.
- 9:31Speaker 9: That is so dorky.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 9:33Speaker 7: But then I joined the other dorks, and then we
- 9:35Speaker 7: all drank.
- 9:36Speaker 6: Well, that makes you even.
- 9:38Speaker 9: Less cool in my book. But many people like the
- 9:41Speaker 9: drunken debauchery. I'm square in a different way.
- 9:44Speaker 7: Particularly debaucherous.
- 9:46Speaker 9: I had a beverage at Beau's house last week. It
- 9:49Speaker 9: was scandalous.
- 9:50Speaker 7: Which one did you choose?
- 9:52Speaker 9: There were many. I actually had two. I spelled it
- 9:56Speaker 9: out on the show. I went with one, the Candyland,
- 9:59Speaker 9: in honor of the dude that got ripped off and
- 10:01Speaker 9: didn't get nominated. And when, when Jennifer won, I had
- 10:05Speaker 9: one of her special six shades of crazy or whatever
- 10:09Speaker 9: he called her crazy drink. So, which she had a
- 10:11Speaker 9: hell of a lot of booze in it actually. So
- 10:13Speaker 9: for as little as I drank, I held up pretty well,
- 10:16Speaker 9: I guess. I made it through the night and I
- 10:17Speaker 9: was all right.
- 10:18Speaker 6: So.
- 10:19Speaker 9: For never drinking, having as much booze as Beau is
- 10:21Speaker 9: putting in that stuff.
- 10:22Speaker 1: It says a lot.
- 10:23Speaker 9: A lot done. So, any other geek activities? Have you
- 10:29Speaker 9: watched anything? Yes.
- 10:34Speaker 7: What did I just watch? I just watched something so
- 10:37Speaker 7: horrible that I decided that I was going to block
- 10:41Speaker 7: it from my consciousness forever. And I think I've done
- 10:43Speaker 7: it so effectively that I can't actually remember. What has
- 10:46Speaker 7: come out recently?
- 10:47Speaker 6: Oh!
- 10:48Speaker 7: It was that terrible, I've already forgotten the name of it,
- 10:51Speaker 7: Dead Man Down, the Colin Farrell film.
- 10:54Speaker 9: Oh, yeah. Good responses.
- 10:57Speaker 7: The trailer made me think it was going to be great.
- 11:00Speaker 9: It's got a lot of really good actors in it. Exactly. Okay,
- 11:05Speaker 9: occasionally he can be a good actor. Usually I just
- 11:09Speaker 9: associate him with his real world persona, which.
- 11:11Speaker 5: Is a dick.
- 11:15Speaker 9: I don't know. But he's turned in some very good
- 11:17Speaker 9: performances on occasion. This wasn't one of them, you're saying?
- 11:20Speaker 7: No, he actually was good in it. I mean, he
- 11:24Speaker 7: was better than the movie deserved. All the performances were
- 11:27Speaker 7: better than the movie deserved. It was just a really
- 11:30Speaker 7: bad movie that I've already forgotten that I saw last week.
- 11:35Speaker 9: I'm just going to see if I can get it
- 11:36Speaker 9: to put our comments on the posters and video boxes
- 11:39Speaker 9: from here on out.
- 11:40Speaker 7: Really bad movie that I've already forgotten that I saw
- 11:42Speaker 7: last week.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Lucy, movie meltdown.
- 11:44Speaker 7: Yeah, but that's kind of it. We've been having a
- 11:48Speaker 7: really great... Here's something good. I'm going to be positive.
- 11:51Speaker 7: I'm going to stick with the silver linings. I'm going
- 11:54Speaker 7: to stick with the theme of the show.
- 11:56Speaker 9: I got it. Okay.
- 11:57Speaker 7: We've been having a Hal Ashby series at the Lexington
- 12:00Speaker 7: Public Library.
- 12:01Speaker 4: That's weird.
- 12:01Speaker 7: And it's been great. I... Okay. Full disclosure, basically the
- 12:06Speaker 7: whole reason we're having this series is because I really
- 12:09Speaker 7: want to see the last detail on the big screen.
- 12:11Speaker 9: You want it your way.
- 12:12Speaker 7: Yeah, basically I want it my way. I've been wanting
- 12:14Speaker 7: to see it on the big screen, and there just
- 12:16Speaker 7: wasn't an opportunity. And it's a film that I was like, okay,
- 12:19Speaker 7: I need to finally see it, but I need to
- 12:20Speaker 7: see it big. Let's make a series around it. And
- 12:23Speaker 7: I'm so happy that we did, because Hal Ashby, I mean,
- 12:26Speaker 7: those first... Like seven films, seven films he made in
- 12:31Speaker 7: the 70s within, you know, a 10 year span, actually
- 12:34Speaker 7: a nine year span.
- 12:35Speaker 9: It's a pretty good run.
- 12:36Speaker 7: That are phenomenal. And, you know, things things got a
- 12:40Speaker 7: little messy after that. But but those seven films are so.
- 12:43Speaker 7: As things do in Hollywood. Anyway, I just I recommend
- 12:49Speaker 7: everybody go back and watch his entire 1970s body of work,
- 12:54Speaker 7: starting with The Landlord. which is a great film and
- 12:58Speaker 7: I think very much overlooked. And Harold and Maude held up,
- 13:01Speaker 7: thank God, because I was so frightened. I mean, it
- 13:04Speaker 7: was like my best, like my favorite film when I
- 13:06Speaker 7: was in high school and I hadn't seen it since then.
- 13:08Speaker 7: But I always footnote it as like, it's one of
- 13:10Speaker 7: my top five favorite films, even though I haven't seen
- 13:11Speaker 7: it in 20 years.
- 13:12Speaker 9: I haven't seen it in years. Again, I guess it
- 13:15Speaker 9: says a lot about me. I really liked it when
- 13:17Speaker 9: I was a kid. Like I watched it when I
- 13:19Speaker 9: was probably... Shouldn't have been. Most of my stories involve
- 13:23Speaker 9: me watching stuff on cable that I shouldn't have been watching.
- 13:25Speaker 9: But I remember I really thought his car was awesome.
- 13:28Speaker 7: Oh, God, it's amazing.
- 13:30Speaker 9: It was fun. The little montage of him killing himself.
- 13:33Speaker 9: I don't know why I thought that was an entertaining
- 13:35Speaker 9: part of the movie, but that part stuck with me
- 13:37Speaker 9: as well. But the car was bitching. I remember that.
- 13:40Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 13:40Speaker 7: The good news is it holds up. And, you know,
- 13:41Speaker 7: we had probably 60 people there and. There was a
- 13:44Speaker 7: solid 20 people who had never seen it before. So
- 13:46Speaker 7: watching it with an audience who were reacting to it
- 13:48Speaker 7: for the first time was an amazing experience. Anyway, just
- 13:54Speaker 7: grab up 60 people, go to your house, watch the
- 13:57Speaker 7: movie right now. That's all I'm saying.
- 13:58Speaker 9: I don't want those people in my house. That's why
- 14:01Speaker 9: I'm just going to get a theater and start showing
- 14:02Speaker 9: stuff there. Fair enough.
- 14:05Speaker 7: That's what we did.
- 14:07Speaker 9: Well, you know what else we're going to do? What's that?
- 14:10Speaker 9: What's up, Brian? I think we're going to go inside
- 14:11Speaker 9: right here, and we're going to go pester Mr.
- 14:14Speaker 8: Doug Jones.
- 14:14Speaker 7: He's my favorite.
- 14:16Speaker 9: He kind of is. He's kind of becoming, well, you'll see.
- 14:20Speaker 9: We're adopting him like all of our favorite celebrities. We
- 14:23Speaker 9: just adopt them on this show.
- 14:25Speaker 7: Whether they like it or not.
- 14:26Speaker 9: They join the Meltdown crew whether they like it or not. So,
- 14:29Speaker 9: you know, I think we have that in our future.
- 14:32Speaker 9: So let's take a break here, and then we'll go
- 14:36Speaker 9: inside and see what Doug Jones.
- 14:38Speaker 6: Is up to.
- 15:29Speaker 1: By the way, you look very fit and skinny yourself,
- 15:31Speaker 1: but you said, I'm tired of seeing the skinny in Hollywood. Thanks,
- 15:33Speaker 1: that feels great, because I just ate a Philly cheesesteak
- 15:35Speaker 1: and I was kind of worried about it.
- 15:36Speaker 7: Take juicy, tender sliced steak, fried with onions and served
- 15:40Speaker 7: with cheese on a fresh Italian roll.
- 15:43Speaker 6: That's our new cheesesteak.
- 15:45Speaker 4: At Gino's, finger-snuffin', hand-croppin', back-huttin', foot-tappin', knee-slappin', lip-snackin' good.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Get a real cheesesteak.
- 15:54Speaker 6: Grab Gino's new cheesesteak sandwiches.
- 16:05Speaker 3: It began in May. And every month after that, whenever
- 16:11Speaker 3: the moon was full, it happened again. And again. Nobody
- 16:31Speaker 3: knew who or what was responsible. They only knew it
- 16:40Speaker 3: had to be stopped. Now, from the master of mystery
- 16:46Speaker 3: and suspense, Stephen King's Silver Bullet.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Silver Bullet.
- 17:09Speaker 3: The last glimmering hope.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Tweet Audio.

- 17:47Speaker 9: That movie was pretty good.
- 17:49Speaker 8: What?
- 17:51Speaker 1: That movie gets an M.G.
- 17:52Speaker 6: Straight up. Straight up M.G.
- 17:54Speaker 9: Material. Honey, is that Robert De Niro across the street? Hey, yo.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Sure looks like him.
- 18:02Speaker 9: Can't be, though.
- 18:02Speaker 4: Yeah, you.
- 18:03Speaker 7: He's calling to us.
- 18:04Speaker 9: Let's just go.
- 18:06Speaker 1: But it's Bobby fucking D, honey. Hey, yo. That's right.
- 18:11Speaker 10: It's Bobby fucking De Niro over here.
- 18:15Speaker 9: Hey, a lot of people don't know this about me.
- 18:17Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm mingling down here with the drug dealers, the pimps,
- 18:20Speaker 10: the Bushes. The low-level gangsters, you know. Honestly, I'm slinging
- 18:24Speaker 10: some shit myself. You may not know this about me,
- 18:27Speaker 10: but I'm a fan of podcasts. Yeah, I've been listening
- 18:30Speaker 10: to these guys, Bloodbaths and Boomsticks. Couple of knuckleheads from
- 18:33Speaker 10: around the way. You got John Smallberries. What a fucking
- 18:37Speaker 10: name on this guy. You got Corey G. Guy's fucking
- 18:41Speaker 10: half-retarded over here.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Likes John Woo, for fuck's sake.
- 18:45Speaker 9: Then you got Tim Gross.
- 18:46Speaker 10: He's got the movie-watching Constitution of a Billy Goat.
- 18:49Speaker 4: Hey.
- 18:50Speaker 10: Find these guys at bloodbathsandboomsticks.blogspot.com. Long fucking name, but just
- 18:57Speaker 10: go find it.
- 18:58Speaker 1: It's worth it.
- 18:59Speaker 10: You knuckleheads got that?
- 19:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:03Speaker 10: Bloodbaths and Boomsticks.
- 19:04Speaker 9: It's on the house. Hey kids, it's Brian. So you're
- 19:16Speaker 9: listening to this episode and it sounds pretty good, right?
- 19:20Speaker 9: That's because we're using our new mics from the Doo-Wop Shop.
- 19:23Speaker 9: We are using the VLH SM2000s that are made specifically
- 19:28Speaker 9: for the Doo-Wop Shop. And if you want one, you
- 19:31Speaker 9: can go get one yourself. They are actually only $ 65
- 19:33Speaker 9: if you want to buy one, or they rent everything
- 19:36Speaker 9: at the Doo-Wop Shop, so you can go there and
- 19:38Speaker 9: get it for as little as $ 5 a month. So
- 19:40Speaker 9: you too can be out there using your microphones to
- 19:42Speaker 9: record a show, or interview people, or I don't know,
- 19:45Speaker 9: most people probably have like bands and, you know, rent
- 19:48Speaker 9: instruments and stuff.
- 19:49Speaker 11: Which they also do.
- 19:50Speaker 9: They have a huge selection of instruments. So anything you
- 19:53Speaker 9: need for any type of event, whether it's a music
- 19:56Speaker 9: show or a business meeting or whatever kind of occasion
- 19:59Speaker 9: you've got, they've pretty much got everything covered. So they
- 20:02Speaker 9: are located in Louisville. You can go to the Highland
- 20:05Speaker 9: Store at 1587 Bartstown Road or or in the East
- 20:08Speaker 9: End at 2915 South Hurstburn Parkway. Even if you're not
- 20:11Speaker 9: in the area, they have the website like most businesses,
- 20:14Speaker 9: but you go to doo-wop.com, and specifically, they have a
- 20:18Speaker 9: huge selection of karaoke discs. So you can actually go
- 20:21Speaker 9: to the website, they have thousands of titles to choose from,
- 20:24Speaker 9: and they're only like $ 4.
- 20:25Speaker 1: 99 a month.
- 20:26Speaker 9: So whatever you need karaoke-wise, they can hook you up
- 20:29Speaker 9: through the internet, and you don't even have to be
- 20:31Speaker 9: in the area. So Again, that is doo-wop.com.
- 20:34Speaker 11: Go there.
- 20:35Speaker 9: They'll have whatever you need. They certainly did with us
- 20:37Speaker 9: for the mic. So, yeah, go to doo-wop.com and check
- 20:40Speaker 9: it out.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Hi, this is Lily Tomlin, and I'm moving outtown with Brian.
- 20:51Speaker 6: Tumble out of bed and I stumble to the kitchen.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Pour myself a cup of ambition and yawn and stretch
- 20:56Speaker 4: and try to come to life.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Jump in the shower and the blood starts pumping.
- 21:03Speaker 4: Out on the streets the traffic starts jumping. With folks
- 21:05Speaker 4: like me on the job from nine to five. What's
- 21:10Speaker 4: part of your problem?
- 21:11Speaker 11: You know, you haven't seen enough movies.
- 21:13Speaker 5: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 21:17Speaker 4: And now, on with the show.
- 21:34Speaker 1: .
- 21:36Speaker 2: .
- 21:45Speaker 7: .
- 22:12Speaker 9: All right, so we are here with Doug Jones. We
- 22:20Speaker 9: are back with Doug. It's been a while. It's been,
- 22:23Speaker 9: you know, it's a reunion for us.
- 22:25Speaker 6: Right.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Well, last time I was in the Midwest, Cincinnati Horror
- 22:28Speaker 1: Hound of November 11, I think it was.
- 22:30Speaker 9: Yeah, I checked today. It's been, yeah, it's been that long.
- 22:32Speaker 1: It's been a little over, it's been a year and
- 22:34Speaker 1: some change. Almost a year and a half. I'm no mathematician,
- 22:38Speaker 1: but that feels like.
- 22:40Speaker 9: I round. I like rounding.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Rounding.
- 22:42Speaker 9: But yeah, I was going to say, I guess that's
- 22:44Speaker 9: a good excuse to say, what have you been up
- 22:46Speaker 9: to the last year and a half?
- 22:49Speaker 1: Well, since last we spoke, The Watch came out in
- 22:51Speaker 1: theaters and on DVD with Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill,
- 22:53Speaker 1: and me as the lead alien bad guy invading their neighborhood.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I guess it was successful as comedies go. Sure.
- 22:59Speaker 6: Sure.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Meanwhile, I also was a recurring guest on The Neighbors
- 23:04Speaker 1: this season, the new sitcom on Wednesday nights right before
- 23:07Speaker 1: Modern Family on ABC, and I play Dominique Wilkins on
- 23:11Speaker 1: the show. I'm in six episodes, and we just had
- 23:14Speaker 1: our musical episode air last week, and it is delicious. No,
- 23:19Speaker 1: I got to sing and dance for the first time
- 23:20Speaker 1: in my life on film, and it was good. Okay, okay.
- 23:26Speaker 9: It's a very fun show.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I was raised on musicals, and so my dad was
- 23:29Speaker 1: a big, showman lover. I loved Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire,
- 23:33Speaker 1: all those Bing Crosby, White Christmas, all that. So to
- 23:37Speaker 1: be able to sing and dance on a big production
- 23:40Speaker 1: with money was great. You know what I mean?
- 23:42Speaker 9: You've been practicing mentally your whole life.
- 23:44Speaker 1: I have been. So I got the chance to be,
- 23:47Speaker 1: and the musical composer for this episode was Alan Menken,
- 23:50Speaker 1: who did Little Mermaid, Hercules, Pocahontas, the list goes on
- 23:54Speaker 1: and on. He's decorated in all arenas. So I'm just saying.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Head of all. And then I also filmed the entire
- 24:02Speaker 1: season three of Falling Skies on TNT. That season starts
- 24:07Speaker 1: airing in June. And I play the new alien on
- 24:10Speaker 1: the show. I'm a friendly alien. If you know the
- 24:13Speaker 1: storyline at all, aliens have invaded Earth and Noah Wiley,
- 24:17Speaker 1: he heads up the human resistance. So aliens have been
- 24:21Speaker 1: nothing but bad guys on the show for the first
- 24:23Speaker 1: two seasons. Then I land at the end of season
- 24:25Speaker 1: two as a cliffhanger.
- 24:27Speaker 6: What's he here for?
- 24:28Speaker 9: Oh, no.
- 24:28Speaker 1: All my minions come behind me. And then season three,
- 24:32Speaker 1: we'll expose what we're here for. Are we friend or foe?
- 24:35Speaker 1: You don't know, but I think we're good. Can I
- 24:37Speaker 1: give you a teaser? We're good.
- 24:39Speaker 9: Secret. Exclusive spoiler.
- 24:41Speaker 1: You'll think we're good for a minute. The question is
- 24:44Speaker 1: always there. What's their motive really for being here? To help.
- 24:49Speaker 1: And I use air quotes. You know what I'm saying?
- 24:51Speaker 9: That's what they always say. We're here for good, and
- 24:54Speaker 9: we have wonderful things to share with.
- 24:57Speaker 1: You. So that's coming. And then I also have John
- 25:01Speaker 1: Dies at the End, a feature film. He did a
- 25:03Speaker 1: theatrical run across the country.
- 25:04Speaker 9: I just saw that last week, actually.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Did you?
- 25:07Speaker 1: Did you?
- 25:08Speaker 9: A lot of one. Yeah, he's... He's always been one
- 25:11Speaker 9: of my favorite directors, so it's kind of good. Yeah,
- 25:14Speaker 9: I have a weird Beastmaster thing. I don't understand it.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Beastmaster and Bubba Hotep and the Phantasm. Yeah, and after
- 25:22Speaker 1: working with him on John Dies at the End, he
- 25:24Speaker 1: is now in my top handful of very few favorite
- 25:26Speaker 1: directors I've ever worked with. He gets the joke. He
- 25:29Speaker 1: gets it, whatever it is that he's going on. You
- 25:31Speaker 1: know what I'm saying?
- 25:32Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:33Speaker 9: He's definitely got a good sense of humor that he
- 25:35Speaker 9: works into his stuff.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I like that writer-director combination. I love Guillermo del Toro,
- 25:42Speaker 1: Joss Whedon. They're all really good writers, and they know
- 25:45Speaker 1: how to direct their own material. Like when I read
- 25:47Speaker 1: the script for Pan's Labyrinth, when I knew that Guillermo
- 25:49Speaker 1: was directing it as well as wrote it, it's like, oh,
- 25:51Speaker 1: we're in the best of hands here. And six Oscar
- 25:54Speaker 1: nominations later, I was right, wasn't I? Yeah, you can't
- 25:57Speaker 1: argue that. No, you can't.
- 25:59Speaker 11: You can't.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Don't even argue with me. Don't try it. I have
- 26:01Speaker 1: a microphone in my hand and I know how to
- 26:02Speaker 1: use it.
- 26:03Speaker 9: On that one, I'll let it slide.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Okay.
- 26:06Speaker 9: But I will say it seems like you're being typecast otherwise.
- 26:09Speaker 9: They're not branching out too much these last year and
- 26:11Speaker 9: a half.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Gluing me into rubber alien bits?
- 26:13Speaker 9: You're always an alien now.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Except on The Neighbors, I was an alien that looked
- 26:16Speaker 1: like a human.
- 26:17Speaker 9: That's true. Now, come on.
- 26:18Speaker 1: That was a stretch.
- 26:19Speaker 11: Come on.
- 26:20Speaker 9: Yeah, you don't get to do that much.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Well, I've been doing it more. A lot of indie
- 26:25Speaker 1: projects that you maybe never see.
- 26:27Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 26:28Speaker 1: And in John Dice, then I play a human-ish character,
- 26:31Speaker 1: Roger North, coming from this other dimension. So, yeah, you
- 26:34Speaker 1: saw it. So you saw me. I looked weird.
- 26:37Speaker 9: You know, that's a given most of the time.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Sitting here right now, I look weird. But they darkened
- 26:41Speaker 1: my circles under my eyes and made me look a
- 26:42Speaker 1: little more pale. And that's my phone going. My phone
- 26:46Speaker 1: that wasn't working. I can't get a reception. I've been
- 26:49Speaker 1: getting calls all day.
- 26:51Speaker 9: It's magic.
- 26:52Speaker 5: I just rejected the call.
- 26:53Speaker 1: That means they'll know. They'll know that I don't want
- 26:56Speaker 1: to talk to them.
- 26:57Speaker 9: We're talking about John Dyes at the end. Leave me alone.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Right, I know, I know. Okay, so back to me.
- 27:03Speaker 1: What would you like to know about me? Well, what
- 27:08Speaker 1: have I been up to? We're closing that up. A
- 27:12Speaker 1: ton of other projects that I just don't have the
- 27:14Speaker 1: titles for. If you're a Webernette follower of web series,
- 27:20Speaker 1: Fallout Nuka Break, I'm about to do a little cameo
- 27:22Speaker 1: in season two of that. It doesn't mean anything to everybody,
- 27:25Speaker 1: but those who know it love it. Oh, yeah. And
- 27:29Speaker 1: the web series, The Danger Elements. I play Dr. Elemis
- 27:34Speaker 1: in that, and that's one episode comes out like every
- 27:37Speaker 1: four months. So it's a tough one to follow because
- 27:40Speaker 1: it just takes so long, but it's deliciously fun and
- 27:43Speaker 1: big production value. Another web series I did with– that's
- 27:48Speaker 1: a message from my unicorn friend– Anyway.
- 27:52Speaker 9: You are magical.
- 27:53Speaker 1: You're magical.
- 27:53Speaker 9: And I'm delicious.
- 27:55Speaker 7: It's going to be an angry unicorn, though, because you're rejected.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I reject them. So it's going to be a
- 28:00Speaker 1: message full of, I hate you for rejecting me. How
- 28:02Speaker 1: dare you? No one rejects me. Where was I? I
- 28:06Speaker 1: lose my train of thought so easily. We were. One episode.
- 28:09Speaker 1: One episode.
- 28:10Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Okay, actor from Rocky Horror Picture Show, the guy, Brad.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Barry Bostwick. Barry Bostwick and I did a web series
- 28:19Speaker 1: together called Research that takes place in a research facility
- 28:23Speaker 1: where they're testing products on humans. And I'm the main
- 28:32Speaker 1: test subject who makes a career out of this. So
- 28:34Speaker 1: I'm a little bit crazy.
- 28:35Speaker 9: Guinea pig.
- 28:35Speaker 1: You're right. And Barry Bostwick is one of the lead
- 28:38Speaker 1: doctors of this. And he's so nuts. The man is nuts.
- 28:43Speaker 1: I love him madly. So it's a very funny, wacky,
- 28:47Speaker 1: airplane-esque web series called Research. Not out yet, but once
- 28:52Speaker 1: it starts, do a little Google search for Research and
- 28:55Speaker 1: you'll get to their website and find out what dates
- 28:57Speaker 1: are coming and all that. So is that enough about
- 29:00Speaker 1: me for now?
- 29:01Speaker 9: That's up to you.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I can go on about everything else. I've filmed what
- 29:05Speaker 1: hasn't come out yet or may never come out. If
- 29:07Speaker 1: you look at my IMDb page, it's full of red marks. Pre-production, announced, assumed.
- 29:13Speaker 1: It's coming sometime. Yeah, who knows? I don't know. They
- 29:16Speaker 1: might not have money. I don't know.
- 29:17Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 29:19Speaker 9: Well, it's up to you. I can come up with
- 29:22Speaker 9: more general questions or if you're ready to get into
- 29:24Speaker 9: this movie.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Well, let's see. I promoted the heck out of everything.
- 29:28Speaker 1: The mime book is doing well. Did we talk about
- 29:30Speaker 1: that mime book?
- 29:31Speaker 9: Yeah, I think it had just come out at that point.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it had. It was just about to. It's been
- 29:37Speaker 1: selling very well. You can still find Mime, a very
- 29:39Speaker 1: own book, on Amazon.com. Or at Barnes & Noble. If
- 29:44Speaker 1: they don't have it in the store, they can order
- 29:45Speaker 1: it for you if you're not a Webernet user. I
- 29:47Speaker 1: love that word, Webernet. I know it's not real, but
- 29:49Speaker 1: I just love using it.
- 29:50Speaker 9: I make up words.
- 29:51Speaker 7: It's fun to say.
- 29:52Speaker 1: It makes me sound like I'm out of touch.
- 29:53Speaker 5: I like that.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I like that image. Where were we? I know, I
- 29:59Speaker 1: keep doing that.
- 29:59Speaker 9: The interwebs.
- 30:00Speaker 1: The interwebs.
- 30:00Speaker 9: I prefer that one myself. Right.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Well, if you saw, for your consideration.
- 30:07Speaker 4: Yes.
- 30:08Speaker 1: The Webernet, or the Interweb was introduced there, wasn't it?
- 30:11Speaker 1: That guy, the publicist guy didn't know what the Internet was.
- 30:13Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 30:14Speaker 1: And he's like, I hear about the Interweb, and there's
- 30:16Speaker 1: people talking about this movie. Yeah, it's good. It's a very,
- 30:20Speaker 1: very funny movie. I love that movie. Yeah, for your consideration.
- 30:25Speaker 6: Good?
- 30:26Speaker 9: I'm ready if you are.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Okay.
- 30:28Speaker 9: If you want to roll into it.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Okay, let's talk about it. I saw it once and
- 30:32Speaker 1: I loved it. I didn't have time to research a
- 30:36Speaker 1: movie properly because I was on a road trip here
- 30:39Speaker 1: to Lexington when Publicist Jess was like, oh, they want
- 30:42Speaker 1: to review a movie with you again. I'm like, oh,
- 30:44Speaker 1: I haven't. Got a chance to see nothing, but okay,
- 30:47Speaker 1: I saw this and that. I think I remember that one.
- 30:51Speaker 1: So I'm going to be free of details, but you
- 30:53Speaker 1: have to fill in details and names for me, okay?
- 30:55Speaker 9: I will at least throw it out there to the
- 30:57Speaker 9: listeners that may think I was being biased and chose
- 30:59Speaker 9: this myself. This was at least one that Doug narrowed down.
- 31:02Speaker 1: I did.
- 31:02Speaker 9: Because I did just talk to Jennifer Lawrence, so everybody now.
- 31:06Speaker 1: I won't shut up about it.
- 31:07Speaker 9: You did? Yeah, everybody's probably going to assume it's my pick,
- 31:10Speaker 9: but you know.
- 31:11Speaker 4: Ah.
- 31:12Speaker 9: I wasn't arguing. It was a good excuse.
- 31:15Speaker 1: To watch it. I want to talk about Silver Linings
- 31:19Speaker 1: Playbook because I loved it so.
- 31:38Speaker 6: Let me just break it down for you.
- 31:39Speaker 8: The whole time you're rooting for this Hemingway guy to
- 31:41Speaker 8: survive the war.
- 31:42Speaker 6: And to be with the woman that he loves.
- 31:43Speaker 7: It's four o'clock in the morning.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Can't somebody say, hey, let's have a good ending to
- 31:47Speaker 3: the story?
- 31:47Speaker 6: I can't apologize. You know what I will do?
- 31:49Speaker 8: I will apologize on behalf of Ernest Hemingway, because that's
- 31:52Speaker 8: who's to blame here.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Yeah, have Ernest Hemingway call us and apologize to us, too.
- 31:58Speaker 6: What are you going to do with yourself? I'm getting trimmed.
- 31:59Speaker 6: I'm getting really fit for Nikki. Patrick, she left. She's gone. Doc,
- 32:04Speaker 6: I have one incident.
- 32:05Speaker 9: I come home from work.
- 32:06Speaker 1: I see my wife's in the shower.
- 32:08Speaker 6: I pull the curtain back. So, yeah, I snapped.
- 32:14Speaker 9: Hey, Tiffany.
- 32:16Speaker 6: Is this Pat?
- 32:17Speaker 9: You look nice.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 32:19Speaker 6: I'm not flirting with you.
- 32:20Speaker 7: I didn't think you were.
- 32:22Speaker 6: Look, I think you're really pretty, but I'm married, okay?
- 32:25Speaker 4: So am I.
- 32:25Speaker 6: No, that's confusing. He's dead. Wait, what's happening?
- 32:35Speaker 9: There's no panel.
- 32:36Speaker 2: What's this?
- 32:36Speaker 8: I hear about you just getting out from the loony bin.
- 32:41Speaker 1: I thought you said you had it together.
- 32:43Speaker 9: You were solid.
- 32:44Speaker 1: I am solid.
- 32:44Speaker 9: I was solid at.
- 32:45Speaker 8: The game I don't know where I belong Hey, oh,
- 32:49Speaker 8: what the hell?
- 32:50Speaker 7: I just want us to be friends.
- 32:52Speaker 6: So how did you lose your job?
- 32:53Speaker 1: I having sex with everybody in the office everybody.
- 32:56Speaker 6: I was very depressed after tommy died. We don't have
- 32:58Speaker 6: to talk about Don't let Tiffany get you in trouble.
- 33:03Speaker 6: She's my friend. Why would you say that?
- 33:06Speaker 9: There's this dance thing.
- 33:07Speaker 1: I can only do it if.
- 33:08Speaker 9: I have a partner.
- 33:09Speaker 6: I'm not going to dance with you.
- 33:10Speaker 9: So is this the girl you wrote about?
- 33:11Speaker 7: You wrote about me?
- 33:12Speaker 6: She's fine. She is my friend with an F. A
- 33:15Speaker 6: capital F. Poor friend.
- 33:17Speaker 9: Let me tell you, you've got to pay attention to
- 33:19Speaker 9: the signs.
- 33:20Speaker 6: When life reaches out at a moment like this, it's
- 33:22Speaker 6: a sin if you don't reach back.
- 33:23Speaker 8: I'm telling you, it's a sin if you don't reach back.
- 33:25Speaker 7: Yay!
- 33:28Speaker 8: This is what I believe to be true. You have
- 33:30Speaker 8: to do everything you can. You have to work your hardest.
- 33:33Speaker 8: If you stay positive, you have a shot at a
- 33:35Speaker 8: silver lining. Wait, what's this?
- 33:42Speaker 9: What? I thought you were doing it.
- 33:43Speaker 6: Oh, I thought you were doing it.
- 33:48Speaker 9: I can throw out the basics here for our big
- 33:51Speaker 9: out-on-the-town movie.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Okay, good.
- 33:52Speaker 9: So, the title, Silver Linings Playbook, the year is 2012,
- 33:57Speaker 9: director David O. Russell, and they plot according to IMDb,
- 34:00Speaker 9: and it's already got an error in it. After a
- 34:02Speaker 9: stint in a mental institution, Pat moves back in with
- 34:05Speaker 9: his parents and tries to, it says, reconcile with his ex-wife,
- 34:10Speaker 9: which he points out many times within the movie, they're
- 34:12Speaker 9: still married.
- 34:12Speaker 1: They are, yeah.
- 34:14Speaker 9: It says, things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany,
- 34:16Speaker 9: a mysterious girl with problems of her own.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Does she ever.
- 34:19Speaker 9: Mysterious.
- 34:20Speaker 11: I like that. She's like mystical.
- 34:22Speaker 9: So, spoiler alert. I'm sure we're going to tear into
- 34:25Speaker 9: this and go all into the details. You've been warned.
- 34:30Speaker 9: Where would you like to begin?
- 34:31Speaker 1: I don't know. At the beginning, I think.
- 34:35Speaker 9: We can.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Meeting his mom to come get him. Wasn't she driving
- 34:39Speaker 1: him home from his rehab stint or whatever? Checking him
- 34:43Speaker 1: out a little bit before he should have gone, maybe?
- 34:46Speaker 9: Well, and then we get the other... The person I'd
- 34:49Speaker 9: forgotten was even in it.
- 34:50Speaker 1: The guy that was in the car with him?
- 34:51Speaker 9: Chris Tucker.
- 34:52Speaker 3: The friend?
- 34:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:53Speaker 1: That was Chris Tucker.
- 34:53Speaker 9: Chris Tucker.
- 34:54Speaker 1: I knew he looked familiar when I said, here we
- 34:56Speaker 1: are learning stuff.
- 34:57Speaker 9: This is one of the few performances I'm like, hey,
- 35:00Speaker 9: I kind of like Chris Tucker. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's
- 35:02Speaker 9: very subdued for Chris Tucker.
- 35:04Speaker 1: He wasn't doing a shtick. He wasn't doing a shtick.
- 35:06Speaker 9: He wasn't climbing on things and doing crazy voices.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Oh, awesome, awesome, awesome.
- 35:12Speaker 9: I don't know. Were you okay with Chris Tucker?
- 35:14Speaker 7: I was more than okay with Chris Tucker. I think
- 35:16Speaker 7: he's great in it.
- 35:16Speaker 9: I was surprised, yeah. He usually is so out in
- 35:20Speaker 9: left field with every performance that, yeah, it's amazing seeing
- 35:23Speaker 9: him play like a normal person.
- 35:25Speaker 7: I'm not sure I really know his oeuvre, to be honest.
- 35:28Speaker 9: Have you seen Rush Hour?
- 35:30Speaker 7: No, I haven't. Or two or three.
- 35:32Speaker 9: Well, that's the other thing. Like, they said... He hasn't
- 35:36Speaker 9: done a movie that didn't involve Rush Hour since like 1997. Wow. Yeah.
- 35:42Speaker 9: It was like a huge span of time that he
- 35:45Speaker 9: just took off, and I'm still not really sure why.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Like 15 years ago?
- 35:49Speaker 7: To count the Rush Hour money.
- 35:50Speaker 9: It was like the last regular movie that he did
- 35:52Speaker 9: that wasn't Jackie Chan related.
- 35:53Speaker 4: What?
- 35:59Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 35:59Speaker 9: So it's a welcome return, I suppose. It's better than
- 36:02Speaker 9: I've seen him in the past.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Well, and to come back in something like a film
- 36:04Speaker 1: like this with some artistic credit to it. And a
- 36:07Speaker 1: big name director. A big name director. Whom I've worked with,
- 36:10Speaker 1: David O. Russell. Three Kings with George Clooney and Mark.
- 36:13Speaker 7: That's my favorite David O. Russell movie.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 36:15Speaker 6: Okay.
- 36:16Speaker 1: But listen, but I say worked with. I laid in
- 36:18Speaker 1: the sand dead. My name in the title, or my
- 36:21Speaker 1: name in the credits is, my character name is Dead
- 36:24Speaker 1: Iraqi Soldier. Three things that I am not.
- 36:28Speaker 9: But the question I now have to ask, I guess,
- 36:31Speaker 9: because I've done it with everybody else I've talked to,
- 36:33Speaker 9: did he yell at you at some point?
- 36:34Speaker 1: Oh, right.
- 36:35Speaker 5: No, no.
- 36:35Speaker 1: But, oh, I'm sorry. But the riff with George Clooney
- 36:41Speaker 1: had happened while I was there. We were filming in
- 36:43Speaker 1: El Centro, California, and I didn't see what the riff
- 36:47Speaker 1: was about or whatever, but I just knew that there
- 36:51Speaker 1: was a lot of hush-hush tension on the set. Oh,
- 36:54Speaker 1: George is here. Oh, David's here. They shouldn't see each other.
- 36:56Speaker 1: So they weren't speaking when I was there, but I
- 37:00Speaker 1: was only there for like, I laid in the sand dead.
- 37:03Speaker 1: So I'm not sure how much anybody cared that I
- 37:06Speaker 1: was there. I was cheaper than the silicone dummy.
- 37:08Speaker 9: You were done three days earlier and nobody told you.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Nobody told me exactly. That's how I got the job.
- 37:13Speaker 1: I was, I was, I was cheaper than a silicone
- 37:16Speaker 1: dummy that would have cost them $ 20, 000 to make. And
- 37:18Speaker 1: I was there for a You know, a little bit.
- 37:21Speaker 9: You hung around craft services and they were like, you're good.
- 37:23Speaker 5: Go ahead.
- 37:23Speaker 1: I cost him a soda and a carrot. You know
- 37:26Speaker 1: what I'm saying? But David Russell was fine with me.
- 37:29Speaker 1: He didn't have to direct me at all. Just lie
- 37:31Speaker 1: there dead. Oh, I like that position.
- 37:32Speaker 6: Good.
- 37:32Speaker 1: And we were done. So my experience with him was like,
- 37:34Speaker 1: he didn't yell at me. You're getting the fingers wrong.
- 37:38Speaker 1: That's not a dead guy's hand. No, it wasn't like that.
- 37:41Speaker 9: Have you ever seen a chalk outline? What are you doing?
- 37:43Speaker 1: Have you ever seen a chalk outline?
- 37:46Speaker 7: He just did the visual.
- 37:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I was half buried in the sand and Mark Wahlberg,
- 37:50Speaker 1: he tripped over my leg as he was backing up
- 37:53Speaker 1: in one take and they didn't use that take. So anyway,
- 37:55Speaker 1: I'm in the film. They flashed to my face for
- 37:58Speaker 1: honestly one second. It is 1,001 and out. All right.
- 38:02Speaker 5: Okay.
- 38:03Speaker 9: I was there.
- 38:03Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Trip to El Centro, two days in the hot sand
- 38:06Speaker 1: for 1,001 and gone. All right.
- 38:09Speaker 9: Well, okay, that really makes three for three that, like
- 38:12Speaker 9: David O. Russell, even one of them who he did
- 38:15Speaker 9: yell at still likes him.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Yeah, so there you go.
- 38:18Speaker 9: It's kind of interesting that, I guess that's somewhere we
- 38:20Speaker 9: can go into for a minute here, is just kind
- 38:23Speaker 9: of what our thoughts are on... him as a director
- 38:27Speaker 9: i think he's moved in some very different like.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Directions yeah yeah yeah jennifer lawrence she swears by him
- 38:33Speaker 1: and she said she would absolutely work with him again and.
- 38:35Speaker 9: He's going to now they already announced it yeah oh
- 38:37Speaker 9: okay i didn't hear that part yeah he's it's almost
- 38:39Speaker 9: everybody from that movie he's got um bradley cooper's coming
- 38:43Speaker 9: back she's coming back so yeah it's it's he's kind
- 38:45Speaker 9: of like working with his friends so he keeps dragging
- 38:48Speaker 9: everybody back in i guess because they're already signed on
- 38:50Speaker 9: i think yeah yeah Yeah, well.
- 38:52Speaker 1: I think he got something very right with Silver Lany's playbook,
- 38:54Speaker 1: for sure. Now, the script, he didn't write, did he?
- 38:59Speaker 9: It came from, what, a book, but he redid the
- 39:02Speaker 9: script real time.
- 39:03Speaker 1: That's right, there you go. See, I wish I'd studied
- 39:06Speaker 1: up my details. That's embarrassing. He didn't write it, did he? Oh,
- 39:09Speaker 1: he did write it. Okay, so he wrote a great script,
- 39:12Speaker 1: is what I was going to say.
- 39:14Speaker 7: It just makes it sound all the more impressive. Well,
- 39:15Speaker 7: he couldn't have written that. He wrote it?
- 39:17Speaker 2: I know.
- 39:17Speaker 9: I was like, that was so good.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Yeah, but it wasn't. But obviously it was written by
- 39:22Speaker 1: somebody who understood people with issues. Yeah, right? I mean,
- 39:28Speaker 1: we all have our issues.
- 39:29Speaker 9: Which David is so impressed.
- 39:30Speaker 10: With.
- 39:30Speaker 7: Anger.
- 39:30Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 39:34Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:35Speaker 9: But he said, we brought that up before, that we
- 39:38Speaker 9: thought maybe he had personal ties. And he said it
- 39:40Speaker 9: was because of his son, but he also says that
- 39:42Speaker 9: his son not only has those issues, but also has
- 39:45Speaker 9: the OCD that comes into play. So he puts a
- 39:48Speaker 9: lot on his son when he tells the stories about
- 39:50Speaker 9: this movie.
- 39:50Speaker 4: He did.
- 39:51Speaker 1: No, I saw him on a talk show talking about everything.
- 39:53Speaker 7: Is this uncomfortable with this level of publicity regarding his relationship?
- 39:56Speaker 9: I guess we have to ask the son. So we've
- 39:58Speaker 9: got to get him on the phone, I guess. Yeah,
- 39:59Speaker 9: I know.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Everyone's going to think, this is quite a son, right?
- 40:02Speaker 1: If that movie... All the inspiration came from this one kid.
- 40:04Speaker 4: Poor thing.
- 40:05Speaker 9: And how old is this kid? Is he like 12?
- 40:07Speaker 9: And he's like, Dad!
- 40:09Speaker 1: Shut up! God! Now I'm gonna have issues.
- 40:14Speaker 9: Every time I see my friends, they make fun of me.
- 40:17Speaker 1: I know, right?
- 40:18Speaker 9: You would assume that's gonna happen now.
- 40:20Speaker 1: I know. What meds are you on?
- 40:23Speaker 9: Me?
- 40:24Speaker 7: None.
- 40:25Speaker 8: I used to be on lithium and Seroquel and Abilify,
- 40:28Speaker 8: but I don't take them anymore.
- 40:30Speaker 6: They make me foggy and They also make me bloated.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:34Speaker 10: I was on Xanax and Effexor, but I agree, it
- 40:36Speaker 10: wasn't as sharp, so I stopped.
- 40:38Speaker 1: You ever take Klonopin?
- 40:39Speaker 9: Klonopin, yeah.
- 40:40Speaker 5: Right?
- 40:41Speaker 4: Jesus.
- 40:41Speaker 6: Like, is it what?
- 40:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:43Speaker 6: What day is it? How about Trazodone? Trazodone.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Oh, it flattens you out. I mean, you are done.
- 40:49Speaker 6: It takes the light right out of your eye.
- 40:51Speaker 9: I bet it does. I'm tired.
- 40:55Speaker 5: I want to go.
- 40:56Speaker 11: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 40:57Speaker 9: We haven't.
- 40:58Speaker 7: We haven't even finished the salad yet, or the duck.
- 41:01Speaker 9: I made the fire and ice cake.
- 41:03Speaker 6: I said I'm tired. Are you going to walk me
- 41:06Speaker 6: home or what? You mean me?
- 41:11Speaker 9: Yeah, you.
- 41:11Speaker 7: Are you going to walk me home?
- 41:14Speaker 6: You have poor social skills. You have a problem.
- 41:16Speaker 9: I have a problem?
- 41:17Speaker 6: You say more inappropriate things than appropriate things.
- 41:20Speaker 7: You scare people.
- 41:21Speaker 6: I tell the truth, but you're mean.
- 41:22Speaker 10: What?
- 41:23Speaker 9: I'm not telling the truth?
- 41:26Speaker 6: Um, maybe I should drive them home separately?
- 41:29Speaker 5: You can drive them both home.
- 41:31Speaker 9: Now.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Stop talking about me in third person! You can take
- 41:33Speaker 1: Tiffany home first. You love it when I have problems.
- 41:35Speaker 7: You love it.
- 41:36Speaker 1: You love it, Vaughn, because then you can be the
- 41:38Speaker 1: good one.
- 41:38Speaker 9: Just say it. No, I don't.
- 41:39Speaker 4: I don't.
- 41:40Speaker 7: I just wanted to have a nice... God.
- 41:44Speaker 1: What is your problem?
- 41:45Speaker 7: Nothing's my problem.
- 41:46Speaker 9: I'm fine.
- 41:47Speaker 3: I'm tired.
- 41:47Speaker 9: I want to go.
- 41:47Speaker 3: Come on.
- 41:48Speaker 9: Are you ready?
- 41:49Speaker 1: You really want to go right now?
- 41:50Speaker 4: Yes, I really want to go.
- 41:51Speaker 9: But, I don't know. Again, I think... I wonder how
- 41:55Speaker 9: different the book is, because to me it takes a
- 41:58Speaker 9: very specific turn midway in, and I'm assuming that's probably
- 42:02Speaker 9: a lot of his doing. I don't know. But it
- 42:05Speaker 9: focuses so heavily on the mental illness aspect in the beginning,
- 42:09Speaker 9: I guess, to get you familiar with it.
- 42:11Speaker 1: Right, exactly.
- 42:12Speaker 9: It changes gears massively at that midway point.
- 42:15Speaker 1: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. And Bradley Cooper, following his story, his character,
- 42:22Speaker 1: I don't know, what was his character's name in the movie?
- 42:24Speaker 1: I don't know if I even know. Anyway, it was
- 42:26Speaker 1: Bradley Cooper's character. It went through a transitional thing from
- 42:30Speaker 1: being like this crazy raging person to having a heart
- 42:35Speaker 1: and soul that we could understand by the end of it,
- 42:36Speaker 1: which that was a nice ride to go on, I think.
- 42:40Speaker 9: And he did a really good job. Again, he's done
- 42:43Speaker 9: so many silly comedies and it's, you know, he's always
- 42:46Speaker 9: just kind of played that or he's just there to
- 42:47Speaker 9: be the pretty boy. So the fact that they, they,
- 42:50Speaker 9: they give him that weird scar and then they like,
- 42:53Speaker 9: I don't know, they, they have him like dressed in
- 42:55Speaker 9: a trash bag the whole time and make him crazy
- 42:58Speaker 9: and start yelling at people quite often. And so it's,
- 43:01Speaker 9: it's a very different thing that he has to kind
- 43:03Speaker 9: of bring to the table.
- 43:04Speaker 1: And both, both he and Jennifer Lawrence, they both have
- 43:07Speaker 1: these quirks about them that, that were, so beautifully understated.
- 43:12Speaker 1: They could have gone, pushed the envelope a little bit
- 43:15Speaker 1: farther and it would have become a silly comedy, but
- 43:17Speaker 1: it became a very real thing. We know someone like them,
- 43:20Speaker 1: don't we? We've all met those people. They didn't advertise
- 43:25Speaker 1: their quirks. They just lived them. It was beautiful work.
- 43:28Speaker 1: It was really beautiful work.
- 43:29Speaker 7: And all the characters had these sort of quirks.
- 43:31Speaker 1: All of them did.
- 43:32Speaker 7: Everybody had something.
- 43:33Speaker 1: I love the mom so much. Oh, didn't you love her?
- 43:35Speaker 7: She's amazing. That's a stunning performance.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Wasn't it, though? It was.
- 43:39Speaker 9: I was still like, again, I'm just sitting there going,
- 43:42Speaker 9: you know, you want to write off Robert De Niro
- 43:44Speaker 9: because everybody loves Robert De Niro.
- 43:46Speaker 1: I'm just like, oh, my.
- 43:47Speaker 9: God, he's so good at this.
- 43:48Speaker 3: No, he was.
- 43:49Speaker 11: He was.
- 43:49Speaker 1: He was.
- 43:51Speaker 9: You think maybe he's, you know, he's, he'll go for
- 43:53Speaker 9: years and like, he won't get the big acclaim again.
- 43:55Speaker 9: And then you watch him turn in this performance and
- 43:57Speaker 9: I'm like, he's so good at it.
- 43:59Speaker 1: It's amazing. I couldn't ignore him.
- 44:02Speaker 7: And then this, this, we obviously, if we're going to
- 44:05Speaker 7: talk about Robert De Niro and acting, then we have
- 44:06Speaker 7: to mention the scene where Jennifer Lawrence, basically shows him
- 44:10Speaker 7: up character-wise, but also acting-wise. I mean, she goes toe-to-toe
- 44:14Speaker 7: with that man and holds her own.
- 44:15Speaker 9: No, no, seriously.
- 44:15Speaker 1: When she rattled off all the stats and whatever it was,
- 44:17Speaker 1: oh my gosh.
- 44:18Speaker 9: It was glorious. Which I just read today, those were
- 44:21Speaker 9: all real. They were from a specific, like 2008 or something.
- 44:25Speaker 9: There was a specific season and they were all real facts.
- 44:28Speaker 9: I was like, that's even more impressive because then she
- 44:30Speaker 9: had to get it all right, too.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Right, and to rattle that off, that's a memorization nightmare
- 44:34Speaker 1: as an actor, but then to feel it and live
- 44:37Speaker 1: it and sell it, girlfriend worked at. Okay.
- 44:40Speaker 9: Well, that's, that's one of those that like, again, I mean,
- 44:43Speaker 9: everything I've seen of her has been pretty impressive and
- 44:46Speaker 9: she showed, you know, some more than others, but, but
- 44:48Speaker 9: definitely this one coming in, I thought, okay, it's still
- 44:50Speaker 9: going to lend sort of to that, that acting chops
- 44:53Speaker 9: kind of thing that she brings to it. But, When
- 44:56Speaker 9: she gets in, like, again, in the beginning, she's just
- 44:58Speaker 9: kind of easing her way into it, but when she
- 45:00Speaker 9: gets in that middle part and just sort of starts
- 45:02Speaker 9: holding her own with everybody, maybe it's flashbacks from the fighter,
- 45:06Speaker 9: because it did feel a little like bringing the girl
- 45:08Speaker 9: in to hold your own against your entire family. But, yeah, she, like,
- 45:12Speaker 9: that was the part. I was just like, okay, once again, like,
- 45:15Speaker 9: she deserves that Oscar, because she stood there and, like,
- 45:19Speaker 9: not just, like, the rattling off the facts, but just, like,
- 45:23Speaker 9: not backing off from anything, like, being completely, like, and
- 45:27Speaker 9: just sort of coming in and almost commanding the room
- 45:30Speaker 9: for this 25-year-old little girl that kind of walked in
- 45:34Speaker 9: out of the street. I don't know. It's a really
- 45:37Speaker 9: impressive performance, and I guess that's why they gave her
- 45:39Speaker 9: an Oscar. But still, yeah, she earned it because it's amazing.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that part of her character and Bradley's
- 45:47Speaker 1: as well. Neither one of them had an edit button
- 45:49Speaker 1: in there. Didn't he mention that somewhere in the dialogue
- 45:52Speaker 1: somewhere that he doesn't know?
- 45:53Speaker 9: I don't have a filter.
- 45:54Speaker 1: I don't have a filter. Oh, it's glorious because, yeah,
- 45:57Speaker 1: people use that as an excuse now. Like, I have
- 46:00Speaker 1: this condition or that condition, and therefore I get to
- 46:02Speaker 1: say whatever rude thing I want to you.
- 46:04Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 46:05Speaker 1: So they live that one out for sure.
- 46:08Speaker 7: But that's what was so interesting is that, you know,
- 46:10Speaker 7: all the other characters were pretty much as crazy as them.
- 46:13Speaker 7: It's just they did have the edit button.
- 46:14Speaker 1: They'd never been committed. That's right. That's right.
- 46:17Speaker 8: I know.
- 46:17Speaker 7: It seems like, you know, the friend that would pull
- 46:20Speaker 7: him to the side and talk about how terrible his
- 46:22Speaker 7: life is and all the things that he does to
- 46:23Speaker 7: get away from it. And you're like, every bit is
- 46:26Speaker 7: messed up. It's just he used to only say those
- 46:28Speaker 7: things in private.
- 46:29Speaker 9: He was one of my favorite parts. Like, just it
- 46:32Speaker 9: was so real.
- 46:32Speaker 1: So real.
- 46:33Speaker 9: Like, I know so many people who have that marriage.
- 46:36Speaker 2: Yes.
- 46:36Speaker 9: I won't name them. But I'm just like, it feels
- 46:39Speaker 9: like that, like anytime they're away from the other half,
- 46:41Speaker 9: they're just like, oh my God, they're killing me. I'm
- 46:45Speaker 9: just like, wow, really? This is your life? And everybody
- 46:48Speaker 9: thinks their lives are horrible and they're crazy and they
- 46:51Speaker 9: make fun of them and talk about them behind their back.
- 46:53Speaker 9: But I'm like, look at what's going on in your life.
- 46:55Speaker 5: Right.
- 46:56Speaker 1: The running theme was we all have issues and we
- 46:59Speaker 1: deal with them on different planes in different ways, don't we?
- 47:01Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 47:02Speaker 9: But even, you know, dad is almost as crazy, really.
- 47:05Speaker 9: I'm just like, his OCD is out of control. His gambling.
- 47:08Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:09Speaker 7: His fan from a stadium.
- 47:11Speaker 9: Yeah. His violence, obviously, is there.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Bradley Cooper came by it honestly. Yeah. With his parents,
- 47:16Speaker 1: for sure.
- 47:18Speaker 9: And yet somehow pulls it off where he's still like, again,
- 47:21Speaker 9: I'm sitting there going, he's kind of my dad. I mean,
- 47:24Speaker 9: he doesn't have all those issues, but I'm like, he
- 47:26Speaker 9: comes off as such a dad sometimes and like still
- 47:28Speaker 9: makes him very lovable, but kind of crazy, like legitimately crazy.
- 47:33Speaker 9: So it's, yeah, everybody has their weird, crazy issues in
- 47:36Speaker 9: this book.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Do. The three of us do right now.
- 47:40Speaker 9: I think that's one of the things I took from
- 47:43Speaker 9: this so much is, you know, finally a movie for me.
- 47:46Speaker 9: A movie about crazy people. So yeah, I don't pretend
- 47:50Speaker 9: any different.
- 47:55Speaker 1: The whole, I love the subplot of the dance. The practicing,
- 48:01Speaker 1: the rehearsing, the committing to something that may not be
- 48:05Speaker 1: your bag but you committed to it and And I
- 48:08Speaker 1: love seeing him with his being pulled with commitment to
- 48:12Speaker 1: family and the baseball.
- 48:14Speaker 5: Baseball.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Football. Football.
- 48:17Speaker 9: You know what I mean?
- 48:19Speaker 1: I'm a sports nut.
- 48:20Speaker 9: Philadelphia just took. I'm sorry, Philadelphia.
- 48:26Speaker 1: So between that and then the commitment to that whole
- 48:30Speaker 1: dance competition was just so great. And I love that
- 48:35Speaker 1: they didn't reveal the whole routine to us, all those
- 48:37Speaker 1: rehearsal scenes until the end when we saw this ridiculous
- 48:40Speaker 1: thing they came up with that they, again, committed 100% to. And,
- 48:46Speaker 1: you know, you've got all these people doing great flamenco dancing,
- 48:49Speaker 1: and they've got the feathers in the hair and the
- 48:51Speaker 1: thing and the posing and the posture, and these two
- 48:54Speaker 1: get out there, and they're just like at a high
- 48:56Speaker 1: school dance just going, whoo!
- 48:58Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 48:58Speaker 9: Pretty much.
- 48:59Speaker 1: But full-on rehearsed, right? And they were ready to do it,
- 49:02Speaker 1: you know? I loved it so much.
- 49:05Speaker 9: That middle section where they're just doing the monkey or
- 49:08Speaker 9: whatever they were doing.
- 49:10Speaker 1: It was a mess. And it came to a great
- 49:12Speaker 1: finale when they got a score that was so mediocre,
- 49:16Speaker 1: but it was just mediocre enough to get their money
- 49:19Speaker 1: in the bag.
- 49:20Speaker 9: It was, oh, shut up.
- 49:22Speaker 1: This is Spoiler City, what we're doing right now. So
- 49:24Speaker 1: if you haven't seen the movie, stop listening. Five minutes ago.
- 49:30Speaker 9: They were fully warned at the beginning.
- 49:31Speaker 1: They were, all right.
- 49:33Speaker 9: But, no, the reaction is priceless. They've got so much
- 49:37Speaker 9: writing on this mediocre score that, like, nobody understands. So, yeah,
- 49:42Speaker 9: it's hilarious that they get so excited about a five.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Yeah, this family hugging each other, jumping up and down
- 49:47Speaker 1: with a six-point-nothing score. For a five-point, yeah.
- 49:53Speaker 9: When I got to that middle section, I was like,
- 49:54Speaker 9: I don't know if they're going to get a five. Yeah,
- 49:55Speaker 9: I know. I know.
- 49:56Speaker 1: That's what I said.
- 49:57Speaker 7: But it played out so beautifully because the whole time,
- 49:59Speaker 7: I mean, I know for me watching it, I was
- 50:01Speaker 7: so scared because you know it's leading. The movie's leading
- 50:03Speaker 7: toward a dance-off. And you're like, this could turn into
- 50:06Speaker 7: the cheesiest, worst movie ever.
- 50:07Speaker 5: Right, right.
- 50:08Speaker 7: And it was handled so pitch perfectly. So beautifully.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Yeah, pitch perfectly.
- 50:11Speaker 7: And so, and with the tone of the film.
- 50:13Speaker 9: And I was afraid that, because I knew there was
- 50:16Speaker 9: that dance aspect coming, so I was afraid they were really,
- 50:18Speaker 9: because if you didn't, again- Not seeing the movie, I
- 50:22Speaker 9: was like, so they're just cashing in on Dancing with
- 50:24Speaker 9: the Stars? It really seemed like it was just going
- 50:26Speaker 9: to be a huge section that that's all... It was
- 50:29Speaker 9: just pulling in those fans. And it really isn't. The
- 50:32Speaker 9: practice is such a huge part of it, but the
- 50:34Speaker 9: actual dancing... You don't even watch the other people. You
- 50:37Speaker 9: just get that segment of them and then all the
- 50:40Speaker 9: other drama going on around it. But it doesn't focus
- 50:42Speaker 9: on the dancing.
- 50:44Speaker 1: Other than their performance. That was just a backdrop for
- 50:46Speaker 1: all the drama that was happening.
- 50:47Speaker 9: Which I thought was actually a really... Clever way to go,
- 50:51Speaker 9: and he didn't just go for what was easy to
- 50:53Speaker 9: bring in a crowd. I was impressed with... It was
- 50:56Speaker 9: kept at bay and didn't completely take over the plot
- 51:00Speaker 9: for the whole last third of the movie.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly. Another favorite moment of mine was in
- 51:07Speaker 1: the street after the dance comedy when he runs out
- 51:09Speaker 1: to catch her, right? And he starts reading his response to...
- 51:15Speaker 1: the letter that he thought came from his wife, but
- 51:18Speaker 1: it was actually from the Jennifer Lawrence character, right? And
- 51:20Speaker 1: when he said, yeah, I know you wrote this, and
- 51:23Speaker 1: the look on her face, again, so beautifully underplayed, and
- 51:28Speaker 1: yet so, everything registered immediately, like she'd been caught, but then,
- 51:33Speaker 1: oh good, this is because we're having this moment because
- 51:35Speaker 1: of it.
- 51:36Speaker 9: Oh! Oh!
- 51:37Speaker 1: He's like, that's a payoff. That's a payoff that worked
- 51:40Speaker 1: for me.
- 51:40Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 51:42Speaker 5: Um.
- 51:43Speaker 9: I love the reaction.
- 51:45Speaker 1: I don't know where to go with that.
- 51:47Speaker 9: Moving on. No, I'm just trying to hit all the points.
- 51:49Speaker 9: There's so many, because I kind of have a big
- 51:52Speaker 9: Indian one, but yeah, I want to come back to that.
- 51:54Speaker 9: I do want to hit before that, I love the doctor.
- 51:57Speaker 7: He was the only one that I was a little
- 52:00Speaker 7: on the fence about.
- 52:00Speaker 9: Well, I didn't, again, I just didn't expect that. The therapist. Yeah,
- 52:04Speaker 9: when he goes in. The Indian therapist.
- 52:06Speaker 1: Oh, the therapist. Oh my gosh, yes.
- 52:10Speaker 9: Just because he plays it so atypical of every stupid
- 52:14Speaker 9: movie doctor. He just does it so differently in the office.
- 52:19Speaker 9: And then it's so funny when they see him when
- 52:21Speaker 9: they're waiting at the football game.
- 52:22Speaker 1: At the tailgate party.
- 52:25Speaker 9: Yeah, I don't know. I kind of liked that one.
- 52:27Speaker 9: I didn't expect that when he went into the office.
- 52:29Speaker 9: I was afraid it was going to be just, again,
- 52:31Speaker 9: another great segment from another movie. But yeah, he went
- 52:34Speaker 9: a different.
- 52:35Speaker 8: Way with it.
- 52:36Speaker 1: It was full of little subtle surprises. You wouldn't think
- 52:41Speaker 1: that a movie with talking heads would have that much
- 52:43Speaker 1: meat to it and that much new. It's proof that
- 52:47Speaker 1: a good story still sells. You don't need car chases
- 52:49Speaker 1: for every one of them. You know what I mean?
- 52:51Speaker 7: Absolutely.
- 52:53Speaker 9: Did you feel he was a little too over the top?
- 52:55Speaker 1: Yeah, for me.
- 52:56Speaker 7: That was the only part that felt a little silly sometimes.
- 53:00Speaker 7: But otherwise.
- 53:01Speaker 9: There's got to be a weird doctor out there somewhere.
- 53:04Speaker 1: I'm sure there are.
- 53:06Speaker 9: Usually they're just weird in other ways. He was just
- 53:09Speaker 9: kind of funny weird. My main one early on was, again,
- 53:18Speaker 9: I haven't been to Philadelphia, so anybody out there listening
- 53:21Speaker 9: who's there right now, is it true that in Philadelphia
- 53:24Speaker 9: no one uses sidewalks? They did nothing but walk down
- 53:27Speaker 9: the middle of the street.
- 53:28Speaker 1: The entire movie.
- 53:31Speaker 9: I was just, okay, there have to be cars sometimes, right? No, no, no.
- 53:35Speaker 1: Here's what I'll defend them. When I go jogging in
- 53:37Speaker 1: my neighborhood, I do it in the middle of the
- 53:39Speaker 1: street because on the sidewalk, it's driveway up, driveway down,
- 53:42Speaker 1: driveway up, driveway down, driveway up.
- 53:46Speaker 9: It wasn't a convenient thing for them. It was like
- 53:48Speaker 9: they never, for a minute, when she left the dance
- 53:52Speaker 9: contest at the end there, she's on a sidewalk. And
- 53:54Speaker 9: then she immediately runs into the street for the big finale.
- 53:58Speaker 9: It's more dramatic. I was just like, they can't stay
- 53:59Speaker 9: out of the middle of the street.
- 54:00Speaker 1: It's more cinematic to be in the middle of a street.
- 54:03Speaker 9: They've got mom and dad. They should be yelling at
- 54:04Speaker 9: them to stay out of the streets. That's what they
- 54:06Speaker 9: should be doing.
- 54:07Speaker 7: I take it to the sense that it was a
- 54:08Speaker 7: smaller suburb of Philadelphia just because the cop to person
- 54:11Speaker 7: ratio seemed to be one to one. Like that cop
- 54:15Speaker 7: was everywhere.
- 54:16Speaker 9: It was everywhere.
- 54:16Speaker 7: Like as soon as any kind of altercation, it's like knock, knock, knock.
- 54:19Speaker 9: I know.
- 54:19Speaker 1: And it's the same cop.
- 54:20Speaker 7: The response time was amazing.
- 54:23Speaker 1: If only that was for real. The cop was played
- 54:26Speaker 1: by somebody familiar.
- 54:28Speaker 9: He's from a bunch of stuff and now I cannot.
- 54:30Speaker 1: I'm having trouble because I remember going, oh, that guy.
- 54:33Speaker 1: And then now it's gone. It's gone. It's gone.
- 54:36Speaker 9: See I should have researched I should have I wrote
- 54:38Speaker 9: down other ones I didn't get to the cops I
- 54:39Speaker 9: didn't get that far we really.
- 54:42Speaker 1: Want to know we have an implement for that uh
- 54:45Speaker 1: oh I'm going to cheat I don't know are you
- 54:50Speaker 1: hooked into the web or not on that little iPad
- 54:52Speaker 1: device should be we'll see did I just advertise for
- 54:54Speaker 1: iPad by saying iPad as long as.
- 54:56Speaker 9: They send us a huge check I'm.
- 54:57Speaker 7: Fine with it or an iPad.
- 55:00Speaker 9: Case of iPads just hand out to the listeners thanks or.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Sell to the listeners A nominal fee. Are you hooked
- 55:10Speaker 1: into cellular use with that iPad device?
- 55:14Speaker 7: The 3G technology.
- 55:15Speaker 1: The 3G technology.
- 55:17Speaker 7: Okay.
- 55:17Speaker 1: I don't have devices, so I don't know.
- 55:19Speaker 7: This is my first device. You guys can.
- 55:22Speaker 1: We'll talk amongst ourselves while she's looking things up.
- 55:25Speaker 9: We can do that.
- 55:25Speaker 7: And then I'll come back and I'll pretend. We can
- 55:28Speaker 7: edit it all out so I can just run through.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Oh, that's quick.
- 55:32Speaker 9: Look at that.
- 55:34Speaker 7: I can do my Jennifer Lawrence thing where I run
- 55:35Speaker 7: down every film he's ever been in.
- 55:38Speaker 9: But you have to do it kind of hostile.
- 55:39Speaker 7: That's how I do most things.
- 55:42Speaker 1: Yeah, you're so sassy.
- 55:46Speaker 7: And it really is taking a long time.
- 55:48Speaker 4: Sorry, guys.
- 55:49Speaker 1: The actor's name Lucy is searching for is Dash Mihawk. No, really.
- 55:54Speaker 5: It's Dash Mihawk.
- 55:55Speaker 1: That's okay. Would it be better with 4G or maybe
- 55:59Speaker 1: even 5G? I don't know.
- 56:00Speaker 9: We need more Gs.
- 56:01Speaker 1: We need more Gs, yeah. The more Gs, the better, right?
- 56:05Speaker 9: I've been saying for a while now they need to
- 56:07Speaker 9: send us some Gs.
- 56:08Speaker 1: It's like money. The more, the better, right?
- 56:10Speaker 9: They never do.
- 56:11Speaker 1: They never do. Let's just take a look. Okay, so hey,
- 56:17Speaker 1: what else is up? What else is up with this
- 56:19Speaker 1: movie's silver linings playbook? What's the title about, do you think?
- 56:24Speaker 9: I mean, he certainly references the silver lining all the time.
- 56:28Speaker 1: Right.
- 56:29Speaker 9: And I guess they keep telling him he needs to
- 56:31Speaker 9: get a plan and get his... So again, they never
- 56:34Speaker 9: do the cheesy thing of spelling out the line. You
- 56:37Speaker 9: have to scream it out when they mention the name
- 56:39Speaker 9: of the movie within the movie, somewhere in the dialogue.
- 56:42Speaker 9: They don't quite take it that far.
- 56:43Speaker 1: So is it more like a.
- 56:47Speaker 1: There's a silver lining to every cloud. However, you might
- 56:50Speaker 1: need to have a plan to find it or see
- 56:52Speaker 1: it or recognize it.
- 56:53Speaker 9: A mixture of both of them. Because he keeps, like,
- 56:55Speaker 9: during his therapy kind of stuff in the beginning, he
- 56:58Speaker 9: keeps talking about the silver lining. Like, this horrible thing
- 57:01Speaker 9: that happened, you know, could ruin his life. But now,
- 57:05Speaker 9: you know, look at me. I'm thin and I've got
- 57:07Speaker 9: my mind right. So, I mean, he's, I guess, trying
- 57:09Speaker 9: to reach for some sort of, you know, good thing
- 57:12Speaker 9: that came out of it. And.
- 57:14Speaker 9: Which, by the way, does anybody blame him for that? Like, okay,
- 57:18Speaker 9: maybe not manslaughter, but, you know, he needed to beat
- 57:21Speaker 9: the hell out of that guy. I'm sorry.
- 57:23Speaker 1: That was a great, with the flashback, if it played
- 57:25Speaker 1: out like that for real. And, yes, he deserved a
- 57:27Speaker 1: punch in the face.
- 57:27Speaker 9: Yeah, I was like, people are, I mean, maybe stop
- 57:30Speaker 9: him a little sooner. But, you know, I was like.
- 57:32Speaker 6: Sure, sure.
- 57:34Speaker 1: Dude was asking for it. When you're a visiting man
- 57:37Speaker 1: with someone's wife in their shower.
- 57:40Speaker 9: In their shower.
- 57:40Speaker 1: And you're caught naked. You don't have a whole lot
- 57:43Speaker 1: of say in that moment. And he acted like he
- 57:45Speaker 1: had say, the professor guy.
- 57:46Speaker 9: I believe he said, I think you need to leave
- 57:47Speaker 9: or something to that effect.
- 57:49Speaker 1: Like, you need to leave your own house while I
- 57:50Speaker 1: finish up doing the wife. And that's probably not going to.
- 57:53Speaker 9: I think I need to pound your face into the child.
- 57:55Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Well, that's why, as an audience,
- 57:58Speaker 1: we were on Bradley's side, I think, even though he
- 58:00Speaker 1: went over the top. But I think we understood the backstory,
- 58:05Speaker 1: didn't we?
- 58:05Speaker 7: And I love the pacing and the way it was revealed.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Yes.
- 58:08Speaker 1: We didn't know everything right up front.
- 58:10Speaker 9: Exactly. Because, yeah, that beginning part, you assume he just,
- 58:12Speaker 9: you don't know what he did.
- 58:13Speaker 1: You don't know what he did.
- 58:14Speaker 9: He just, like, ran off. But, you know, he's there,
- 58:16Speaker 9: so probably not. But, again, you don't realize the, but
- 58:19Speaker 9: those quick flashes, like, it is very violent when.
- 58:21Speaker 1: He goes off on us. Yeah, but I think all
- 58:24Speaker 1: that makes Bradley Cooper character more human as we go along.
- 58:28Speaker 1: He went from being a raging psycho to, like, okay,
- 58:31Speaker 1: I get it. I'm sympathetic to him now, you know?
- 58:34Speaker 9: And we need that because he crosses the line a
- 58:37Speaker 9: little bit there. I mean, just the.
- 58:40Speaker 9: Waking them up at four in the morning, throwing a
- 58:42Speaker 9: book out the window. It was already pretty annoying. It's funny,
- 58:44Speaker 9: but it's pretty annoying if you were really living that.
- 58:47Speaker 9: And then by the time he, like, injures his mom
- 58:50Speaker 9: while looking for the wedding video, it's, I don't know.
- 58:52Speaker 9: At that point, you could start to not be on
- 58:55Speaker 9: his side.
- 58:55Speaker 6: No, no, no.
- 58:56Speaker 1: That was a tough one.
- 58:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:57Speaker 1: Okay.
- 58:58Speaker 9: And getting in a fight with his dad.
- 58:59Speaker 7: But he's screaming, I'm sorry, and crying, and he doesn't
- 59:03Speaker 7: like that part of himself. Right, right. And he just
- 59:05Speaker 7: doesn't have.
- 59:05Speaker 1: Control over it. Which I thought he played beautifully. We
- 59:07Speaker 1: talk about Jennifer a lot, but Bradley, that was his shine.
- 59:10Speaker 1: moment in the film.
- 59:10Speaker 7: And he was so good. It kind of broke my
- 59:12Speaker 7: heart that he was nominated opposite Daniel Day-Lewis, because you
- 59:15Speaker 7: know in that year, you're done.
- 59:17Speaker 9: In any year.
- 59:17Speaker 1: In any year.
- 59:18Speaker 7: Like, if he's acting.
- 59:19Speaker 1: Right, he's going to win. Right, yeah. And, well, I
- 59:23Speaker 1: know we're not talking about Lincoln, but was he not?
- 59:25Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 59:26Speaker 1: Shut up Lincoln yeah he was Abraham Lincoln shut up
- 59:30Speaker 1: there's no asking questions.
- 59:31Speaker 9: We were afraid he was going to get shot at
- 59:33Speaker 9: the Oscar just full on method he was going to
- 59:35Speaker 9: go for it yeah yeah yeah oh.
- 59:38Speaker 1: Gosh I love that Seth Rogen made that Seth Rogen
- 59:45Speaker 1: Seth MacFarlane, the host of the house, who made that
- 59:47Speaker 1: Lincoln joke about getting shot at the theater or whatever.
- 59:48Speaker 1: And he said, what, too soon?
- 59:51Speaker 9: It's always too soon for Lincoln jokes. You've got to
- 59:53Speaker 9: be careful. But he's beloved and he should be.
- 59:55Speaker 1: I'd like him to be president now.
- 59:58Speaker 7: Sometimes I feel like he is, honestly.
- 1:00:02Speaker 9: It's come full circle.
- 1:00:03Speaker 7: Reincarnation of Lincoln as Obama.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Of course. Did I get us off track?
- 1:00:08Speaker 7: We're talking about politics.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: As we should be.
- 1:00:12Speaker 9: We are usually off track on this show.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: I don't know what track we were on. Oh, good.
- 1:00:20Speaker 9: I liked Halloween. I think I just like any movie
- 1:00:24Speaker 9: where they work Halloween into it. So getting to watch
- 1:00:27Speaker 9: them wander around with everybody in costume in the middle
- 1:00:29Speaker 9: of the street, kids and everybody.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: In the middle of the street because they don't use sidewalks, right?
- 1:00:32Speaker 9: Crazy Philadelphia people don't use sidewalks. A few of the
- 1:00:35Speaker 9: kids did, but some of them were still. I'm like, parents, really?
- 1:00:38Speaker 9: Come on. There's rules here, damn it.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: You're just teaching the kids to not obey the rules.
- 1:00:44Speaker 6: Why did you order raisin bread? Why did you order tea?
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: Because you ordered raisin bread.
- 1:00:53Speaker 8: I ordered Raisin Bran because I didn't want there to
- 1:00:54Speaker 8: be any mistaking it for a date.
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: It can still be a date if you order Raisin Bran.
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: It's not a date. So how's your thing going? Dancing thing?
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: It's good.
- 1:01:06Speaker 7: How's your restraining order?
- 1:01:07Speaker 8: I wouldn't actually call the restraining order my thing, but
- 1:01:11Speaker 8: getting back with Nikki is, and I think I'm.
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: Doing pretty well.
- 1:01:14Speaker 9: Yeah, their whole little not a date date. Raising brand
- 1:01:18Speaker 9: makes it not a date. Wasn't that great?
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: Ah, love.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: And when she, when she went off in the diner
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: and had her moment to like to prove a point
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: or whatever it was, it was, Oh, again, again, like, Oh,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: the discomfort. I was, uh, yeah. Have you been in
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: a situation like that before where you're with somebody who's
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: being a little too loud or a little too something
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: and you're like, it's going to happen. Here we go.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: We're going to get kicked out of somewhere.
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:01:45Speaker 9: And they, they work in a really, well, it's kind
- 1:01:47Speaker 9: of that same thing. They work in that reveal with
- 1:01:49Speaker 9: her too. You don't even know why she's like, everybody's
- 1:01:52Speaker 9: treating her like she's a crazy person when, you know, okay,
- 1:01:54Speaker 9: your husband died, but you know. That's sad, but why
- 1:01:58Speaker 9: are they acting like, you know, and then she starts
- 1:01:59Speaker 9: rattling off all the medication. Yes. You start getting the
- 1:02:02Speaker 9: sense of, okay, she's not doing too well. But yeah,
- 1:02:06Speaker 9: you get to like that reveal before you really get
- 1:02:09Speaker 9: to her reasoning and her way of dealing with it
- 1:02:13Speaker 9: and her sleeping with the office.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. Her matter of fact delivery about her
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: sluttiness was glorious, I thought.
- 1:02:22Speaker 9: And that's a performance that's kind of hard to do.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Again, I don't know how much of that.
- 1:02:26Speaker 9: you know, was from the page versus what she did
- 1:02:29Speaker 9: with it because it makes her.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: Or what David O. Russell yelled at her to do. Yeah,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: that too.
- 1:02:35Speaker 9: Whichever.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: Right. It worked, you know.
- 1:02:38Speaker 9: We don't know.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: We weren't there, dude.
- 1:02:39Speaker 9: Oscar-winning actress.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: It worked.
- 1:02:41Speaker 9: That's right. It did work. But yeah, she, like, it really,
- 1:02:44Speaker 9: it could have come off as silly and it could
- 1:02:45Speaker 9: have come off as her, like, taking it too far,
- 1:02:48Speaker 9: but it really, like, all of a sudden you start
- 1:02:50Speaker 9: to see That, you know, her owning it, like that
- 1:02:52Speaker 9: point where she's just like, yeah, I'm not ashamed of
- 1:02:54Speaker 9: what I did. You know, I don't want to do
- 1:02:56Speaker 9: that anymore, but that's who I am. It's a weird moment.
- 1:02:58Speaker 9: It's something that most people I don't think can do
- 1:03:01Speaker 9: even in the real world. So it's, I don't know,
- 1:03:03Speaker 9: that was really interesting watching her go through that.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: Indeed. And 20-minute lull.
- 1:03:12Speaker 7: Nice.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: So one more chapter and we're done here, right?
- 1:03:15Speaker 9: Yeah. I just make sure we hit them all. If not,
- 1:03:18Speaker 9: we can get into the big round and not the
- 1:03:20Speaker 9: whole thing here.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: The big round? Is that the lightning round? No. Like
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: a quiz show?
- 1:03:25Speaker 9: I guess it was kind of.
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Fighting.
- 1:03:29Speaker 9: Because there's a lot. I think it definitely... I guess
- 1:03:33Speaker 9: if there's something that's very, very movie-like, it's that point.
- 1:03:38Speaker 9: It's when we get to the dance... It takes that
- 1:03:41Speaker 9: turn where we almost forget the whole mentally issues. All
- 1:03:50Speaker 9: of that stuff kind of disappears. It suddenly becomes almost
- 1:03:54Speaker 9: just a normal romance kind of thing. You just get
- 1:03:57Speaker 9: him with the other girl and you get her jealous
- 1:04:00Speaker 9: and she's like, The same standard of, you know, I'm
- 1:04:04Speaker 9: in love with my best friend, but I don't know
- 1:04:05Speaker 9: how to tell him kind of thing.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: And they're all incredibly sane during this time, during that finale,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I thought.
- 1:04:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: And the ex-wife that's not an ex-wife yet shows up.
- 1:04:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: So that dynamic is there. Yeah, I forgot all about
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: the crazy parts. Yeah, totally.
- 1:04:19Speaker 9: Like, it flips the switch and it just becomes a romance.
- 1:04:22Speaker 9: The thing is, I think that ends up working more
- 1:04:25Speaker 9: than I expected. Like, if you described that to me,
- 1:04:28Speaker 9: I would be like, oh, never mind. I hate this movie. And, like,
- 1:04:31Speaker 9: I think it works so well. Like, somehow they pull
- 1:04:34Speaker 9: off that aspect all on its own, like its own
- 1:04:36Speaker 9: little mini-movie at the end there, that, like, you kind
- 1:04:39Speaker 9: of forgive the fact that they're just like, eh, we
- 1:04:41Speaker 9: used to be crazy. But now we're all better. There's
- 1:04:43Speaker 9: no real, like, therapeutic thing that happens. There's no medication.
- 1:04:47Speaker 7: They weren't healed through dance?
- 1:04:49Speaker 9: Well, yeah. But, I mean, that's, like, overnight. I don't know.
- 1:04:53Speaker 9: Because they were still pretty crazy during all the rehearsal. And, like,
- 1:04:56Speaker 9: the day before when they were arguing about other stuff. But, like,
- 1:04:58Speaker 9: it just totally... Which again, I think it takes a
- 1:05:03Speaker 9: different message by the end of it. I think the
- 1:05:06Speaker 9: really sappy romance part of it comes in and it's
- 1:05:09Speaker 9: like all of a sudden it's, well, all they needed
- 1:05:11Speaker 9: was to be loved. I mean, isn't that really what
- 1:05:14Speaker 9: it comes around to saying? It's just like. It doesn't
- 1:05:18Speaker 9: turn out like it's Cuckoo's Nest. All it turns out
- 1:05:21Speaker 9: is just like, well, you know, really all they needed
- 1:05:23Speaker 9: to be okay was somebody to actually give a damn
- 1:05:25Speaker 9: about them and not screw them over. Is that a
- 1:05:28Speaker 9: great message?
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: I think so.
- 1:05:29Speaker 9: It's one of those, it should be cliched and I
- 1:05:32Speaker 9: should hate it, but by the end I was like, well, no,
- 1:05:33Speaker 9: you're kind of right.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: You can't argue that point.
- 1:05:36Speaker 9: Why do you think I'm so damn crazy? No Jennifer Lawrence,
- 1:05:41Speaker 9: that's the problem.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: So....
- 1:05:45Speaker 9: But that's... And that's the other thing I took from
- 1:05:48Speaker 9: the end there, like out in the street, the big finale,
- 1:05:51Speaker 9: if you will, is like watching that and sitting there
- 1:05:55Speaker 9: in the theater going, how much movies can sort of
- 1:05:58Speaker 9: be like the surrogate for you, for like life? Because
- 1:06:02Speaker 9: I'm sitting there going, and I know this moment, this
- 1:06:05Speaker 9: is the big moment in all these type of movies.
- 1:06:07Speaker 9: I don't have this moment. Like, I don't think I've
- 1:06:10Speaker 9: ever had that moment. And it's like you... You come
- 1:06:15Speaker 9: to expect it, like, in life. You come to, like,
- 1:06:17Speaker 9: you know, it's what you're supposed to be looking for, and, like,
- 1:06:20Speaker 9: we know it because of movies. We, like, live vicariously
- 1:06:23Speaker 9: through these characters. I don't know. I thought that was
- 1:06:27Speaker 9: kind of interesting, sitting there in the theater, drifting away
- 1:06:30Speaker 9: from the story to go.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: the hell's wrong with my life right so but i
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: think i don't have moments in the middle of the streets.
- 1:06:37Speaker 9: Yeah i don't have these big movies yeah i don't
- 1:06:40Speaker 9: have these movie moments.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Backlighting fog machine you don't have.
- 1:06:44Speaker 9: Wandering in the street not getting hit by a car
- 1:06:46Speaker 9: i yeah i.
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: Don't i have that i mean i hire a crew
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: but i get.
- 1:06:49Speaker 9: It yeah you do have it because you're magical we've
- 1:06:52Speaker 9: discussed But I think it is one of those things
- 1:06:56Speaker 9: that we've watched so many movies over the years that
- 1:06:59Speaker 9: we start to like apply these things to our own life.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: And we have expectations, don't we?
- 1:07:03Speaker 9: Yeah. We come to expect them in our life.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: This is the arc of my story where the ending
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: should be coming any time now.
- 1:07:09Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: But I'm still unemployed. I'm still, you know. My mom
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: still hates me. Whatever it is, right?
- 1:07:14Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:07:14Speaker 9: Because again, it could have, like, it's a very non-traditional
- 1:07:17Speaker 9: story up to that point. It takes a very Hollywood
- 1:07:19Speaker 9: ending and I don't hate it.
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: I don't hate it.
- 1:07:22Speaker 9: But I feel like, you know, normally I should and
- 1:07:24Speaker 9: they pull it off somehow. But it's funny how much
- 1:07:26Speaker 9: it does take that turn because it could have gotten
- 1:07:29Speaker 9: a lot of horrible, like some terrible things are like
- 1:07:33Speaker 9: laid out there in the beginning.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 1:07:35Speaker 9: Possibly, what's the, oh, her reveal of the husband dying.
- 1:07:42Speaker 9: I mean, that might have been the best moment in
- 1:07:43Speaker 9: the movie, like her telling that story of him and
- 1:07:47Speaker 9: then them already. Again, it's like the real world creeping
- 1:07:49Speaker 9: in them already not being in a perfect place and
- 1:07:52Speaker 9: them already trying to deal with their own problems. And
- 1:07:54Speaker 9: then this much bigger problem swoops in. And like, I
- 1:07:57Speaker 9: don't know that that part is like heartbreaking. And then
- 1:08:01Speaker 9: by the end, it just sort of, you know, it's
- 1:08:03Speaker 9: all OK again. So it does take a very Hollywood
- 1:08:06Speaker 9: movie turn.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: Well, can't life have happy endings, can't it?
- 1:08:09Speaker 9: Yes.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: I like happy endings. I'm a sap for that. If
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: you remember correctly, the last time we were here was
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: Somewhere in Time. A very... Which is sappy.
- 1:08:18Speaker 9: Well, I don't know. It didn't have a happy ending.
- 1:08:20Speaker 9: It's a sad ending. It's kind of the reverse. It's
- 1:08:22Speaker 9: super sappy and then takes that turn at the end
- 1:08:24Speaker 9: and just... Sticks a knife in your stomach.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: Right. Well, yeah, he died a very depressing death. But
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: it was revealed they were back together again. So ultimately,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: thank you.
- 1:08:34Speaker 9: In the wonderful magic afterlife, maybe. That's right.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: Talk about a Hollywood ending.
- 1:08:38Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:08:39Speaker 9: Yeah. We can fix this before the credits. Right before
- 1:08:42Speaker 9: the credits. Come on.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: I'm all for Hollywood endings. Yeah. I'm hoping for one
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: this weekend myself.
- 1:08:48Speaker 9: I keep waiting. So I'm okay with that. As long
- 1:08:50Speaker 9: as we each get issued our Hollywood ending, I'm okay all.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: Right it's a deal it's a deal as we get
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: issued one yeah is there a line at the dmv
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: for that you.
- 1:08:58Speaker 9: Gotta wait in line in hollywood i'm assuming and they
- 1:09:00Speaker 9: issue you your hollywood.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: Ending right of course of course but no.
- 1:09:04Speaker 9: That's that's i think that's the thing as much of
- 1:09:06Speaker 9: a bastard as i am the rest of the time
- 1:09:08Speaker 9: i am a sap at heart and i i still
- 1:09:10Speaker 9: like if they if they do it well I can
- 1:09:12Speaker 9: come around and I'm just like, no, no, they want
- 1:09:14Speaker 9: me over. Like it's, it, it's a sappy ending. And like,
- 1:09:17Speaker 9: it totally works for me. And then they're all like,
- 1:09:20Speaker 9: not only do they get the romance angle, but then
- 1:09:22Speaker 9: the family like almost perfects itself at that point. Like
- 1:09:25Speaker 9: dad's not so angry anymore and not so OCD. Did
- 1:09:28Speaker 9: you notice the remote controls? I just heard that. The
- 1:09:31Speaker 9: crazy remote control thing with them, like, they always had
- 1:09:34Speaker 9: to be on the side table. They always had to
- 1:09:35Speaker 9: be facing a certain way. In that final shot, they're
- 1:09:38Speaker 9: on the coffee table sitting totally different.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Oh, that was.
- 1:09:42Speaker 9: So even Dad's, like, sort of gotten over his... Did
- 1:09:44Speaker 9: they draw much attention to that? No, they really didn't.
- 1:09:46Speaker 9: But it's like, it's just one of... Again, it's just
- 1:09:48Speaker 9: him working on all these little subtle things.
- 1:09:50Speaker 6: Right, okay.
- 1:09:51Speaker 9: Like, everything's sort of writing itself. And, like, now the
- 1:09:54Speaker 9: whole family is there, and the brother's there, and they
- 1:09:55Speaker 9: don't hate each other. And so... His picture's back on
- 1:09:58Speaker 9: the wall.
- 1:09:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: I think the other picture was nice. That was like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:01Speaker 9: And that was a really cheesy picture of him.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Which was great.
- 1:10:04Speaker 7: It was awesome that it was a real picture.
- 1:10:06Speaker 9: I was like, that has to be his high school photo.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: Which brings up the brother, too. The brother dynamic was great, right? Obviously,
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: the prize child that's successful and doing well, and we're
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: proud of him. Yeah. Of course, his picture's on the wall.
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:10:18Speaker 9: As he's laying on the floor.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Collecting dust, yeah.
- 1:10:22Speaker 6: Precious.
- 1:10:23Speaker 9: But, yeah, I don't know. It definitely, like, rounds it
- 1:10:26Speaker 9: out with, like, the perfect ending. Like, them having the
- 1:10:29Speaker 9: perfect home life with the family and the romance going on. And, yeah,
- 1:10:34Speaker 9: it seems like I should be really angry at this movie.
- 1:10:36Speaker 9: And somehow, damn you, David O. Russell, you made it okay.
- 1:10:40Speaker 5: Yeah, you did.
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: You did.
- 1:10:41Speaker 9: So, I guess all that yelling worked out.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: Yell all you want, David O. Russell.
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: Keep making art.
- 1:10:46Speaker 6: Right?
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: That's what I say.
- 1:10:47Speaker 9: It seems to work. Did we hit everything we needed to? Nice.
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: I think we hit everything the listeners want us to hit.
- 1:10:55Speaker 9: Probably.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: They're probably like, yeah, are we done already? Long-winded farts
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: all of you?
- 1:11:02Speaker 9: I don't think so.
- 1:11:03Speaker 7: No?
- 1:11:03Speaker 9: We ramble on way longer than that. Yeah, I do.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: Don't you miss?
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: You do?
- 1:11:07Speaker 11: Oh, yeah.
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. Well, yeah.
- 1:11:10Speaker 9: You know how movie geeks are. Once we get into it.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: Had I seen this movie yesterday, I would have gone
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: on much longer, I'm sure.
- 1:11:16Speaker 7: How long ago did you see it?
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Oh, golly. I don't know. It's been, I saw it
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: the week before the Oscars. When were they?
- 1:11:25Speaker 9: Like a month ago, probably.
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:11:27Speaker 9: That's not too bad.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: That's not too bad. It's been a month. For me
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: to remember that much detail at all.
- 1:11:31Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: That's what's so impressive. That's kooky. Because I don't remember,
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: I can't remember my own birthday often. The older I get, especially.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: I like to forget it. But, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:11:42Speaker 9: It's probably because you meet 4,000 people a day. And
- 1:11:45Speaker 9: they're taking all of your brain space with like their.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: Well, that's what I've learned at this convention. It's happened
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: again today where somebody comes back to my table for
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: a second time.
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: Oh, God.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: And I'm like, hi, how are you?
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: What's your name?
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: It's still Cody. Oh, shoot.
- 1:12:01Speaker 6: Yes, Cody.
- 1:12:01Speaker 9: I've seen 4,000 people since then.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: I know, I know. And I used to have face recognition,
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: and I don't anymore. I've got that condition now where
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: everyone looks the same.
- 1:12:10Speaker 9: It's not your fault. Because, yeah, I, you know, with
- 1:12:12Speaker 9: anybody I see at those, like, there are people I
- 1:12:15Speaker 9: will see, like, from one day to the next and
- 1:12:17Speaker 9: i i just don't assume they're gonna you know if
- 1:12:20Speaker 9: it's not somebody i actually know in the real world
- 1:12:22Speaker 9: it's like i'll at least say hi just for the
- 1:12:24Speaker 9: thing but they're probably just like hey how's it going
- 1:12:26Speaker 9: weirdo i don't know you so i just assume that
- 1:12:29Speaker 9: now because i know how much though i mean you're
- 1:12:32Speaker 9: overrun with people and like what a lifestyle it is
- 1:12:35Speaker 9: for a lot of people to do that that like
- 1:12:36Speaker 9: it's also you know 20 times a year maybe so
- 1:12:39Speaker 9: it's like you you hit that many That routine becomes
- 1:12:43Speaker 9: a routine. So it's a lot to keep up with.
- 1:12:45Speaker 9: So I give you credit for hanging in there and
- 1:12:47Speaker 9: dealing with that.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: Doing my best.
- 1:12:48Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: You're very precious.
- 1:12:51Speaker 9: I guess, you know, we can throw the plug out
- 1:12:53Speaker 9: there one more time. TheDougJonesExperience.com.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: TheDougJonesExperience.com is my official website on the interweber net.
- 1:13:01Speaker 9: Still possibly my favorite website address ever. On the internet.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: Did we talk about this before? About the glitch that
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: happened with that address?
- 1:13:08Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:13:10Speaker 9: I don't think so.
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: Oh, this is the best story ever. Do we have
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: a minute?
- 1:13:12Speaker 9: Oh, yeah.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: I'm being interviewed on a talk show in Atlanta, Georgia
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: on television while I was down there filming a short
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: film called The Candy Shop. It's a very, very poignant
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: short film that addresses the issue of child sex trafficking
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: happening here in the United States. Very heavy subject matter.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: That's why we were on the show. We're on this
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: local talk show with the director of the movie and
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: the producer of the movie and me. Oh, and also
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: a lady from an organization called Street Grace, which exists
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: to get girls off the streets and back into mainstream
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: life and trying to abolish the issue on all levels.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: child sex trafficking is it's customers, it's pimps, and it's
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: the abused. So it's like there's many things going on there.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: So this is an organization I really believe and love,
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: Street Grace. And so we're there talking about their organization,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: this movie, how they all relate together, and the bad
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: that's going on in the world, and here's how we
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: can try to make it better, and let's band together
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: as a community. So introductions. They're running our websites under
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: each one of our faces as they do a close-up
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: on us, right? thedougjonesexperience.com. Now, the thing is, that web
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: address often gets blocked if there's a heavy firewall at
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: some schools or things because the word sex is in
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: that title. The Doug Jones X experience, right? So there's
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: an S and an EX all together. Well, someone was
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: obviously trying to, I don't know what happened, but my
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: web address comes up as, and I'm not kidding you,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: the doug jones sex experience.com in order to avoid it
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: they added another sex in there or something Right? And
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: get this, get this, get this. This is even better.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: This is even better. The DougJonesSexExperience.com running under my face
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: on a Christian television station.
- 1:15:13Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: And good night.
- 1:15:15Speaker 9: I think we found where the real money is.
- 1:15:17Speaker 7: Yeah, okay.
- 1:15:18Speaker 9: We need to get this other website up and running.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: Well, I did when I saw that. I didn't see
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: it until it aired that night on TV in Atlanta,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: and I screamed. in horror and utter delight at the
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: same time. It was the funniest thing I'd ever seen
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: in my life. I thought a still shot of me going,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: you know, with a Doug Jones sex experience under my face.
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. So I typed that web address in
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: to see like, is there something out there? Thank goodness
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: it was like, you know, you can buy this domain.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: So you immediately.
- 1:15:45Speaker 9: Claimed that domain. Right. You're like, yeah, here we go.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: From my home videos. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:15:51Speaker 9: Hey, you know. Oh, my gosh. As long as they
- 1:15:53Speaker 9: pay their membership dues, you know.
- 1:15:54Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: Then I'll give them whatever they want.
- 1:15:56Speaker 11: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: If that's what's buttering my bread, okay.
- 1:15:59Speaker 9: Money is money, especially on the internet. You guys are
- 1:16:04Speaker 9: horrible people. That's not the first time.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: No, I know.
- 1:16:10Speaker 9: But that is a horrible set of circumstances.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: That that happened to you. And I just took us
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: really off topic that time, didn't I? Didn't I?
- 1:16:17Speaker 7: Oh, no.
- 1:16:17Speaker 9: That's a good closer.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Is that a good closer?
- 1:16:19Speaker 9: That's a great closer. Okay, good.
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: Yay.
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: Wow.
- 1:16:22Speaker 9: Yeah, I feel bad for you having to sit there.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: I know. I sent a little email to the TV
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: station going, before you rerun this, you might want to
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: fix a little glitch.
- 1:16:31Speaker 9: Just put a piece of cardboard over there. Just block
- 1:16:35Speaker 9: it out. You don't even have to show my address.
- 1:16:37Speaker 9: It's okay.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: It's fine. It's fine. Oh, that unicorn keeps texting me.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: I know, I know. Let's call him Phineas.
- 1:16:45Speaker 9: Phineas the unicorn. You are so magicalized.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: I don't know how he texts with that hoof. I
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: don't know. He's really quite adept at the phone. Oh.
- 1:16:58Speaker 9: Well, I guess we should let you get to your
- 1:17:00Speaker 9: unicorn and ride it off into the rainbow or however
- 1:17:03Speaker 9: this is.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: Oh, that's probably actually Appearance Manager Derek. We have after-party
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: festivities and commitments I have to do for this convention
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: tonight and so forth and so on. So I imagine
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: the next phase of my night is about to happen.
- 1:17:16Speaker 9: Well, we can let you get to that. Oh. Send
- 1:17:20Speaker 9: them on their merry way.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: Well, it's always great to talk with you kids. Thank
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: you so much for having me again.

- 1:17:28Speaker 1: Get out of here.
- 1:17:28Speaker 9: I think last time it was possibly favorite person on earth.
- 1:17:32Speaker 9: I'm paraphrasing, but I think that's kind of what we decided.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: Aw, that's love talk.
- 1:17:39Speaker 9: We're officially adopting you, I think. So anytime you want
- 1:17:42Speaker 9: to come on the show, you're more than welcome to
