[upbeat rock music] All right, all right, all right. It's Full Spectrum Cycling.
• 0:17
This is show number 198. Wow. Wow. [laughs] 198. It's almost 200. I got this cockamamie idea to do the 200th show a week from Saturday at, uh, Last rites when... or Friday. Right, right.
• 0:33
Week- week from Friday when James has his party, but I don't know. We're gonna do 199 next Wednesday anyway, so... Any- uh, in the... Hey, in the studio here today, we got Tony. Hey. Hey, Tony. Hey. Hey.
• 0:46
Uh, Sam's here too. I think JK's actually just rolling in right now. Sounds like there's- Made some sort of noise... calamity out there. [laughs] Got the heater turned off out there, although the heater works now.
• 0:56
It's working. That's a good thing. Hasn't really been that cold though, so... No snow. Other than the ice. Son of a bitch. Ah. I- my bruise is ginormous. Did we talk about that last week? Yeah.
• 1:08
Or had it just happened- Yeah... like, the day before the show? The day before the show we wipe... Yeah. Yeah. So basically my entire right, left thigh is a giant bruise. Black ice sucks.
• 1:19
Was that your arm or your leg that you showed me the- The leg... okay. Well, we should- Here... we should have a picture of that then. No. So- Here I am... yes, that was, uh- There he is, folks. JK is in the house.
• 1:32
Here I am. We have, we have begun. [laughs] I hear you. [laughs] Me, me, me, me. Ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, ma, me. [laughs] Oh, boy. Oh, boy. [laughs] So I had to, uh, talk to, uh, Nomad Sam.
• 1:50
Show 82 is where he is. All right. So we have to get him back. Well- On the go... we could do that... the go-ound- That was, that was, like, two years ago. Right. Whatever... it was warm out. That was a long time ago.
• 2:02
I remember that. He showed up, it was warm out. Yes. Hi, everybody. Do, do, do, do. I'm here. [laughs] There he is. Here I am. [laughs] So the, um... our, our favorite camera/light company, Wize- Yes.
• 2:20
[laughs] Uh- What the hell?... came out with some new stuff, and I- It'll be good-... don't know why-... for a while... uh- For a while... is yours not so good? Yeah. It'll be good for a while.
• 2:29
All of mine are still kicking ass. Yeah. S- I'm just saying. And I have a lot. I'm just saying, it'll be good for a while.
• 2:34
Well, I brought up this idea of somehow getting a w- moving Wi-Fi on, on Big Sexy's bike- Mm-hmm... and having a, a sexy cam follow him. Yeah, for fucking shit, yes. It seems like a good idea to me.
• 2:47
The only thing there, the only- I don't know... the only thing you have to hook up- You can just, like, tag along on him... is the AC to DC power inverter for the cameras. Which one is mine? Oh.
• 2:55
I, I just stole Sam's beer. Ah. [laughs] That, that's where I normally put my beer. [laughs] That's why it's usually sitting on that chair over there. Damn, all these Sams around. I left a Sam and I hear the Sam. Uh.
• 3:05
Good place to be. Right? Yeah, the Sam place. Normally it's the mic. There's always mics everywhere, but no, Sams is what make the world chug along. There are Samuels. I'm just a Sam. Not many of them. Is that right?
• 3:18
You're just an S-A-M. Uh- Haven't found one yet, to be honest That wasn't a S- a Sam by Samuel? A Samu-wal? No. Well, interesting. Well, Nomad Sam will be like- No, exactly... "Whatever. Fuck it.
• 3:29
Just give me a goddamn whatever." [laughs] It's gonna be a rough night. I think we're gonna- Oof... we're approaching the top of the hill. I just... You want one of these over there, sir? Sure. Why not? Sweet.
• 3:39
Look it, I got one that the label didn't come... That's good luck. Is it? Yeah, three- Oh, yeah... or three Floyds. That's like a Tootsie Roll in the reverse. That's, it's... Right. That's good luck, man. Cool.
• 3:47
All right. Well, we might as well, uh- Get to the top... [bell ringing] get to the top of the hill before, uh, our, our guests show up on the- Phone... this telly horn thing. Sam brought this in.
• 3:57
This is Three Floyds and a Pig Destroyer, uh, collaboration. Yay. So it's not a s- It is. What... You know what they may call these? It's an Imperial IPA. What's the name of it?
• 4:09
It's very hard to read because it's- Uh, permanent funeral? Permanent funeral. It's just weird, uh, uh, font. It's not normal. Right? All right. Well, I'm gonna- Well, I've opened it... ball in by the body.
• 4:20
It's got a b- great color. You can see- Let's try to open it. I'm gonna have a drink... you can see that in the aluminum can. [laughs] The can, right from the lid, you can see it reflecting really nicely.
• 4:29
Alum- alum- aluminium. Here's for aluminiums. Lake Front Brewery switching to cans. Whatever. Oh, yeah, good call. Uh, Clutch coming back to town, uh, of course, at goddamn fucking Rave/Eagles Ballroom.
• 4:45
Um- [laughs] I'll still see him there. Hey, anybody out there wants to give me a ticket, it's awesome if you give me a ticket. [laughs] I shit you not. Dude, I looked at it, 40 fucking 5 right out of the gate.
• 4:59
Fuck that noise. Piss on that shit. Lots of noise. That's pretty pricey for Clutch. Piss on that shit. Um, no. Well, what about the Foo Fighters for Harley? Just w- when, when I'm online.
• 5:09
Dude, I'll be sitting on the other side of the thing. Right. Me too. My, my, my, my, my, yeah. The best, the best, the best, the best you ever get. Yeah, yeah. As long as it's free. Yeah.
• 5:22
I wouldn't pay to see either one of those bands. No, no. I agree. No. Green Day? Dude, I almost got fucking arrested for hu- hustling in fucking Trey Cool's bag of weed [laughs] in 2000, so fuck that noise.
• 5:39
[laughs] All right. So, no, I, uh, Green Day I would actually wanna check out just 'cause- Yeah... that... Hey, your volume is up. No, M- Mr.
• 5:54
Dave fucking Lunz just sent me a picture saying, or a video- I have a couple pictures... saying, "Aren't you supposed to be at a podcast right now?"
• 6:00
And it's apparently some dude where he's eating that looks just like me. Huh. No. Maybe it's the- Again... guy from the Tritonics. So, no, no. So I, uh- Oh, on that venture, I went down, got my hot dog, came up
• 6:16
to, uh, [laughs] Nomad and then, uh, excuse me, and there's a Dave Lunz that taps my leg- Oh, he was at Nomad? Yeah, at like 3:00 in the afternoon.
• 6:30
So- Not the human being that I'm ever gonna see, ever thought that I would see- I don't much have a day off... at, at [laughs] 3:00 on a Wednesday. Oh wait, the semester might not have started yet.
• 6:39
No, he, yeah, no, he- Whatever... he's off on Wednesday No matter what, even on a fucking whatever. Dude, Lunz- Very eloquent. Yes.
• 6:47
[laughs] I'm, I'm, I'm very dead- Well, he was, so he had a friend in town, Amy, who lives in, uh- Yeah, I was talking to her and she was blathering too... wherever the, uh, North Carolina. Cackalacky.
• 6:59
She's got kind of a Dave thing going and maybe it's just 'cause she's hanging around Dave, but she kinda has a way of Dave talking. Nice.
• 7:06
I know, I was trying to- [laughs] I was trying to avoid-ish Dude, dude, dude, dude We didn't finish the, the Top of the Hill discussion. We never finish any of the Top of the Hill bullshit. Sure we do. All right.
• 7:16
No, we don't. So yeah, so this is, I couldn't read that. Permanent Funeral, it's an Imperial IPA. The wolf inside this Imperial, uh, Pale Ale is trying to walk upright. [laughs] Mm-hmm. All right.
• 7:27
Everybody has clever things on their cans. The good thing about it is it's tasty. I'm- Yeah. It's, uh, it's very delicious. Yes, it is a very delicious- Brewed with our friends in the band, Pig Destroyer. Pig Destroyer.
• 7:38
I think it's very delicious. It's, especially considering it's gigantically har- heavy in alcohol. Oh, is it? And it's, well- 10.4. Ah, okay. Well- Yeah. Well, no, it's like 10.4, but it doesn't- So is vain.
• 7:50
[laughs] No, I mean, I, I've had like, like, like eight, eight, 8% that just, like, just hit me in the gut and going like, "Dude, I don't want that." But this is nice. Nice,
• 8:06
nice, nice. And, uh- I don't even have the cans on. I know it sounds good. Yeah. Well, put them on now because I gotta push the button because, uh, we have a caller. Gotta push this little icon. Oh, fuck.
• 8:17
And is it goddamn Lunz? No, it's a good guest, and you shut your whore mouth. Oh. [laughs] Let him talk. Welcome to the radio program caller, who do we have on the line? Hello. Hello. I'm the best caller in the world.
• 8:33
And no, you don't tell Michael to shut up. Let's see. This is awesome. Michael- Hey, there we go. There he is. All right, I got it. I, I had to- [laughs]... I had to p- push the technology twice.
• 8:42
Hey, welcome to the radio program caller. Fuck off. Who do we have on the line? Uh, it's Mark, Mark Peterson from Ogden, Utah. Oh, Mark. Hey, Mark. How's it going? Don't tell him to shut me up.
• 8:54
[laughs] Fuck up or whatever. [laughs] I don't, as long as he can hear all of us, I'm fine. If he starts not being able to understand what's going on, you shut your whore mouth. [laughs] Exactly.
• 9:05
I know, I know what to do. Good Lord. All right. Well, so Mark, uh, are you- No, I can, I, uh... [laughs] I can hear you guys fine. Uh, I, I'm doing great. How are you guys doing? Good, yeah.
• 9:15
We've been trying to hook up for a little bit here. I'm glad that you, uh, had time to call in and, uh- Yeah, yeah...
• 9:21
I know, I know stuff, some stuff's, you know, changing in your life, and we're seeing, you post a lot on Facebook, so you're probably one of the few people I pay attention to on that God-forsaken thing.
• 9:31
Yes, and you got, you- [laughs]... you get a lot of air. Lot o' air. [laughs] Lot o' air. It just dawned on me who this is. It's Mark Peterson. Ah. Since I'm not on, since I'm not on the Facebooks at all. Hey, Mark.
• 9:42
I'm, I'm like- Jesus Christ. [laughs] I'm a moron. Bum, bum, bum. You said it like last week, like Mark's calling in. Yeah. And what's funny, Mark, is I work with a Mark Peterson- He's on the E3...
• 9:50
and he's not nearly as cool as you. [laughs] I don't know about all that. Yeah.
• 9:57
Well, one thing I wanted to, well, first of all, give us a little bit of a background on y- you and cycling, and you and I go back s- uh, quite a few years and have worked together on- Yeah...
• 10:07
on, uh, the massive media production at Saddleback. Massive, massive. That was fun. Yeah. I really, you- Yeah... I was, that was a fun thing to do. That was great. And, uh- Yeah, I had a great time...
• 10:17
so anyway, yeah, tell us what's up and then what you just got yourself into. Oh, sure, sure.
• 10:23
So like, uh, um, I, I guess it's about 13, 12, no, 12, 12 years ago that I really started getting interested in fat bikes, and then of course I got one and started connecting with you guys.
• 10:35
And over the years I've just watched fat biking change so much. Uh, in, in, in a decade fat biking has completely changed and it's not what I thought it was going to be, um, disappointingly, you know?
• 10:50
But on the good side, um, the future looks bright. Um- Nice... I, I went through a lot of stuff in my life, man.
• 10:57
I, I've permanent nerve damage in my lower back from a ruptured disc, and I've had surgery on it a couple times, but at a place that they can't do anything about it.
• 11:07
So I've had to deal with that in my life and how, how that changes what you do. Sure. I used to catch a lot of air or go fast, you know, and now I kinda have to pay attention to the shit I do. You know?
• 11:19
I, I can't just be- No, me too... sending it and not, not paying attention. Right. Yeah, for sure. You mean getting old sucks? Uh, yeah, yeah. Yes, it hurts. But I've accepted it and I've embraced it- Ish...
• 11:33
and, um, that's cool. Not, not- But the really big news is, is I went from a 22-year career in architecture- Oh... and left a large career to become a bike shop guy.
• 11:47
[laughs] And I know that may sound crazy- No, not really... because bike shop guys typically don't make a whole lot of money, but- Hmm. The other two aren't interested... I've got all the material things that I need.
• 11:57
Yeah. [laughs] I know. You know? I, I, I've already bought all my toys. I've got them. So now I just wanna be happy for the rest of my life, so I don't wanna stress out about a high pressure career.
• 12:09
I wanna move on to the stuff that I really love and I've always loved. So- It took about four years of really kind of begging people to give me a chance in their shop.
• 12:19
You know, I, I've worked on bikes for a long time, but I don't have a lot of shop experience.
• 12:23
So it was a challenge to finally get my way into a shop, and I, I got into a place called the Ogden Bicycle Collective in, in here locally, and we were doing a lot of good things.
• 12:35
And dark time in my life, and they brought me in, and the first thing we did was give, like, 300 bikes away to little kids for free in the community. Keep it down. Hmm. Keep it down. That's very cool. That's very cool.
• 12:48
That's very cool. It's because of you. Like- Oh, not because of me... well, if, if, if- It's just business...
• 12:54
have you guys ever been part of something where you ended up doing something for a lot of people in your community that you really love? Well, you see, we have DreamWorks, which is...
• 13:03
Uh, Dream Bikes, which is part of Trek, but it's their nonprofit. And, um, I've done a little bit of volunteering, m- mostly IT work for them. But they do a very similar thing here in Milwaukee, where they'll, they'll,
• 13:16
uh... They, they not only supply bikes for, for kids, and for that, for that matter young adults and adults, but they also provide helmets and locks. Um, that- Sure. Sure... that does... You know, I...
• 13:27
People say bikes, you know the expression, joke or whatever, bikes are freedom. Uh, you know, the... In an impoverished city like Milwaukee, bikes can absolutely be a freedom. They can be, they can be a- Yeah, yeah...
• 13:38
you know, they can help you step up in life. So I applaud you for doing- Yeah... you know, doing that. That sounds really cool. Oddly enough, I left, like, a- Yeah, so-...
• 13:47
a 23-year career in IT to go beg a guy to work in a bike shop, and- Blah, blah... now I'm back in IT. [laughs] Yeah, guess what? Actually- [laughs] A- after the, uh, mics are done- Well, so, and after that experience-...
• 13:58
I'm gonna have to ask you a question. [laughs] Yeah. After, after that experience, um, I... It, it changed my life.
• 14:06
The feeling I got that day giving those bikes away to those kids changed my life, and I, I knew I h- I had to do everything I could to get involved in it.
• 14:14
So, um, a long story short, I recently got a job at Pronghorn Cycles as mechanic number two, and I'm happy about that. Nice. And I'm getting paid a living wage. Right on. So it's not...
• 14:29
Yeah, so I can meet all of my bills and live comfortably. I own my own home. You know, it's cool. But now I just build bikes and talk to people about bikes and ride bikes and- Fuck yeah... swim in bicycles. Fuck yeah.
• 14:44
[laughs] This is the house you own that has a l- a list of bikes, like, all the way across the living room, correct? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I thought so. Um, it's... Uh, uh, funny, funny story.
• 14:56
Uh, two years ago, I was down to, uh, 12 bikes because I had to sell some of them. Oh, only 12. Only 12. I had to... [laughs] Yeah. I was gestating. Everything was just boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, bang, boom, boom.
• 15:07
What were you up to? So it was a l- it was a low point in my life when I had to sell bikes. I do not like selling bikes. Right. Me neither.
• 15:14
So ironically, I became incredibly poor, and over the last year and a half, I went from those 12 bikes up to 26. And about, like- And they're all, they're all, they're beautiful. Yeah. Very, very rich after that.
• 15:30
Yeah, they're very well thought out. [laughs] You've, you've got, like, themes for each one of them, and you've got... For sure.
• 15:35
Do you have a big, do you have a big backlog of, or, uh, you know, parts, or do you have to order stuff custom for each build? Um, yes and yes. Um, so, uh- [laughs] Great...
• 15:45
over, over a couple dec- over a couple decades of putting bikes together, like every nut and bolt to make them custom the way I like them, um, you, you don't get the right part the first time.
• 15:56
Sometimes you have to buy it two, three, four times before you get the right part, which means I had a shit ton of extra anodized stuff everywhere. Did you, uh, have to- Which is cool...
• 16:05
part, did you have to part with Purple People Eater? No, no. I've got, I've got all of...
• 16:11
I've got that bike, and I just built a new one called the Cheshire Cat that I think is actually a little bit cooler than the Purple People Eater. Well, we'll need that for the show notes.
• 16:19
Act- actually, on, on, on this thing, uh, our buddy, uh, Jamie Dum- Dummy Drunky has a really awesome fucking bike that, uh, just went bye bye this-
• 16:37
Stole? So... Yes, or just- Words, Michael. Use your words... whatever. I know. That's what I'm just saying. I'm just like, if you see a cool thing from Jamie Shavers. Okay. Oh, yeah. Well, that's one of the...
• 16:48
He had a, uh, you- Yeah, that's what I'm saying... you may remember this, Mark. He had a, a Hutch Formula One BMX bike, which is what they used to race- Oh... downhill on in California. Yeah, yeah.
• 16:59
And, um, his was kind of city bike-ified. It was not- Mm-hmm... you know, it wasn't like it was a pristine example. It was gorgeous. But I, I offered him 15 hundo- Right... on the spot for it, and he's like, "No."
• 17:11
[laughs] Somebody's, uh, somebody stole it, or he just drunked off with it. But somebody either stole it or he forgot where he left it, one of those two things. So yes, look out for- And I-... the cool thing...
• 17:21
personally would go and check in the shop over there and see if it's in Chris's shop [laughs] just because he's- It, it disappeared? Yeah. It's either stolen or he forgot where it is. It's like this. Well, yeah.
• 17:32
He th- Oh, that's fucked up... he throw the shit up on fucking Faceplace- [laughs]... and what have you. Oh, that makes me sick to my stomach. Well, I hope it's not stolen.
• 17:39
Put it this way, it's so unique that if anybody knows about it- They'll know it's yours... there are no others. Yeah. It's like the one of a kind bike. No, no, that, that...
• 17:45
Yeah, that's why, like, why I threw my shit up there. I'm like, "Motherfuckers, you..." Yeah. Yeah. It's like- I remember the first time seeing that- So I did, I did-... at, at Locust Street Gang...
• 17:54
I did secret things to my bikes. Every one of my builds, I put secret little things on them. [laughs] So they're, they're unique enough. So if something happened and they went away- My balls...
• 18:04
they're unique enough that that would probably give it away. [laughs] But if not, I... There's secret shit that I put on my bikes. [laughs] You know what I, you know what I do too, Mark? Um, whenever I- Yeah...
• 18:13
change a tube, I write on the, the wheel liner, "This bike could be stolen," and my email address and my name And my e- my email address- Nice... and my phone number.
• 18:24
Yeah 'Cause I figure if someone steals a bike and they take it to a bike shop because they have a flat tire, 'cause they're an idiot anyway, the dude changes the tires- Right... and be like, "Oh, what's this?"
• 18:33
So- That's brilliant. It's- Yeah... a- it's not mine. I found it. Oh, okay. Someone, someone posted it on one of my forums, and I'm like, "I'm doing it with every fucking bike I own." Yeah. Tony looks like, uh- Yeah.
• 18:41
Well, I, I'm adopting it. I'm gonna do it too. I like the idea. Good. Do you- Tony looks like, uh, fucking, uh, Indiana Jones here. Just saying. You having some, uh... [laughs] All right.
• 18:54
He's got a tell your dog I said hello shirt. Um, so Mark- Well, there's that... well, Mark and Tony, since we're talking about ways to get stolen bikes, and even JK with his- Hey, why not?... inimitable style of it.
• 19:04
That's Amzy too. Hi, Tony. So- It's all blathering. It's all blathering... so my question is this: do you, uh, put your bikes on like bikeindex.org too? A website that, you know, is a database for bicycles. It's free.
• 19:18
No, this is the first I've heard of it. Tell me about it. It's- Yeah...
• 19:21
well, so it's, it's basically the database that most police stations now use to try and find stolen bikes since, if a bike is stolen, instead of everybody having- Yeah... their own database or their own licensing.
• 19:31
And not being, yeah. And you, you wouldn't know if it went from who- Yeah, every county has their own. Right. You know a guy. So this is- I know a guy. Do you know a guy? That's what- I know a guy... the way to go. Yeah.
• 19:39
I know a guy. Yeah, this is a national- I know a guy... database called, uh- Right... bikeindex.org, and it's free for bike owners.
• 19:45
Uh, there may be, I don't know if there's stuff additional if you pay for it, but usually bike shops pay for it. So, um- Yeah... yeah, check it out.
• 19:53
You put a picture of your bike, the serial number, the model, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And, uh, if it ever- Some of the stories are impressive. Yeah. Sounds good. Yeah.
• 20:00
Like- Well, there's been bikes from Milwaukee found in like Portland- Yeah... and- Wow... San Fran. Oh, I believe it. I believe it. Yeah. I had to ride fucking, uh, Lloyd's bike [laughs] once. Eh.
• 20:10
[laughs] That was funny. [laughs] Sorry. It was, it was going back in the world. See, my bikes, my bikes don't live outside. They live inside. So if anybody's- Aw...
• 20:19
gonna take my bikes, they're gonna have to deal with me at the same time. Yeah, right on. I wouldn't wanna deal with you.
• 20:24
Hey, Mark- I mean, I would wanna deal with you, not for stealing your bike, but- Hey, Mark, we're gonna, uh- [laughs]...
• 20:28
if you can hang out for just a little bit, I, I got a couple questions I wanna ask you, but we got another, uh, a caller who's gonna chime in here for a little bit. You mind hanging out? Oh, is it, is it Luntz?
• 20:37
You'll be able to hear the show? Yeah. Is it Luntz? Yeah. I, I want- Oh, come on... I'm, I'm here. Let me stay on. Uh, just before I leave, let me plug Pronghorn Cycles. Pronghorn Cycles. Pronghorn Cycles. Pronghorn.
• 20:47
Pronghorn. At, at, when you guys get to him. Right on. Hey- Let me give the, the, the email address and all that when you guys, when it's appropriate. Absolutely. Hey, uh, welcome new- Cool. Right on, man...
• 20:56
welcome new caller [laughs] to the line. Who do we have on the horn? Hey, it's Seely Dave. It's Seely Dave, guys. Hi, Seely Dave. Hey, Seely Dave. So also on the horn here is, uh- Hey...
• 21:06
Mark Peterson from out there in Ogden, Utah. Hey. Good to talk to you, sir. Hi. Yep. And are you guys, have you met each other or are you, do you follow each other on the Facebook? I don't think so. Yeah.
• 21:18
Do the Facebook follow, Mark. Yeah, I don't think so either. Definitely- I don't think so... you, you should- You two, you two-... definitely hook up on the Book Face for sure... you two. You two. You two.
• 21:28
[laughs] So just for, well- Well, you had, you had messaged me, Greg, and wanted a snow report, so I just thought I'd call in and give you a quick update. Nice. Yes. Um- So just, uh-... if you want it... I, absolutely.
• 21:39
Tell, tell folks, uh, including Mark, where you are located, because here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, it is raining right now and it's like 40 degrees outside. Sleet-ing. It's horrible... actually. There's no snow.
• 21:52
[laughs] So that's why I wanted to know. That's cruel. So, uh, basically I've seen, I've seen some posts- Yeah. Shitty misties... where other folks are asking like, how far is the snow line?
• 22:00
Like, is it reliable here, here, and then let us know how your snow is where you are. All right. Well, uh, so I, I'm in Seely in, um, Chequamegon area, mountain bike association country, the Chequamegon National Forest.
• 22:15
Um, I'm, Seely's just between Hayward and Cable. Um, uh, so anyway, so northern Wisconsin, and we have lots and lots of snow still, so and more, more on the way tonight, early tomorrow.
• 22:31
So, um, and we got... I, I've been on a couple of times in the past. We, we got huge dumps of snow early, wa- very, very early for us. We've had, we've had well over, um, four feet of snow already this year.
• 22:47
Um, so, uh, with some storms that did a lot of damage to trees and stuff, so trails, people got the, uh, g- local grooming groups like CAMBA and, uh, even the Berkey got behind on their trails because of all the dead fall that,
• 23:04
um, was on the trails that we had to clear. Um, but most of that stuff is clear on trails that are gonna be- No finger raking... groomed this winter. Some,
• 23:14
some trails will not be groomed this winter, but right now conditions are pretty great. So we had, as I said, we had about four feet of total snow. I think we probably got about 30 inches on the ground still. Geez.
• 23:29
  And we have had- Wow...
• 23:30
some recent warm-ups with some light rain, an inch of rain or so, which was really actually helpful for grooming because it, it took a lot of that puffy snow and allowed us to compact it down better. Yeah.
• 23:44
And now it's cold, so that's sort of frozen up. Yep. Um, so now con- conditions are really good right now on everything that we have groomed. Nice. Um, the Seely Big Fat Race is this weekend. It was, it's,
• 23:59
it's always been in Seely. Um, but this year because of logging, it's gonna be at the Hatchery Creek Trails head in, uh, in Hayward. But they've got, CAMBA's got a pretty cool course set up for it.
• 24:11
It should feel pretty similar to the Seely course with a lot of single track. Single track, uh, gr- I think they groom it out to about four feet wide, so you can probably still pass. But, um, and then there's some-
• 24:26
Pure passing sections on, uh, ski trails as well, wider ski trails. So, so that should be, um, pretty ideal this weekend. That should be a pretty good... Temperatures in the 20s. Ooh, that's perfect. So, yeah. Yeah.
• 24:41
Yeah, nice. But, it, yeah. And we're su- we're supposed to get four to eight tonight, tomorrow. So, um, and it's supposed to be wet-ish, so that should groom up pretty well as well.
• 24:52
Um, so anyway, yeah, if people are dying for snow, I, I've seen southern Wisconsin just has got nothing. Um- Well, yeah, you, you know, you, you were down here- It's, it's pretty up here...
• 25:01
for years and years, and we used to have snow, but for the- Yeah... last few years we haven't. Yeah. It's actually- It's ridiculous... hey, Mr.
• 25:08
Peterson, this is actually something I o- I wanted to ask you about too, because I'm not too familiar with the weather in Ogden proper, but, you know, has, uh, has the snow cover been good, you know, compared to previous years, or way bad, or, you know, what's going on out in your area?
• 25:26
So 10 years ago, we pretty regularly got 20 inches of snow down here on the flats in Ogden, and even more on the benches. And that was a regular thing all the way through my childhood. I lived here my whole life.
• 25:38
So back then, what, uh, 10 years ago, it, it, it was good. Over the last, or over the, the, the next four years from 10 years ago, so six years ago, it started getting less and less.
• 25:50
Over the last five years, we have had basically brown winters. Yeah. And I don't understand it. It sucks. Yeah. Well, it's, uh, it's happening here too. I mean, I don't... If we're gonna say climate change- Well...
• 26:01
I don't know. But it's definitely, it's- Well... it, it's definitely a cyclical thing, I would think, because as our lake, uh, level used to be super high even a few years ago, it's lower again now.
• 26:14
And so, you know, we've, we've been through the, the great cycle of the 2012-2013 season, where we had beach from Port Washington- Oh, it's-... to Sheboygan-... freaking gorgeous... like 26 miles of sand.
• 26:24
That was, uh- Yeah, yeah... it was quickly gone, but it's coming back now, so I don't know how cyclical all this stuff is. But anyway, yeah, so you're experiencing- I, I hope so... seeing...
• 26:34
Yeah, me too, [laughs] 'cause I want some- 'Cause I want some-... snow we have... yeah, I want some snow and I want some beach riding. Bullshit. Yeah. So you guys, uh, I used to fat bike all the time.
• 26:43
I used to take pictures of it all the time and post it. Bullshit. You know why I'm not fat biking now in snow? 'Cause there's no fucking snow. Right. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. Yeah.
• 26:52
Uh, so okay, on that note, Dave, how, where do you think the good snow line is when we head north out of the, the south, uh, Wisconsin, or- Uh-... if they're coming in from Minnesota or whatever- Sure...
• 27:03
you know, Wausau, or is it- I think-... north of- I think Black River Falls State Forest- Nice... the trails there, they're grooming those.
• 27:11
Um, so you know, that's, that's north of, uh, north of Lake Mauston a little bit and stuff. But I think if you, that's probably a... Wausau has got snow, I know. Wausau. So, um, so yeah. Love yeah.
• 27:27
So middle of the state. But yeah, it used to be more- Yes... like, oh, if Milwaukee didn't have it, have it at least, like Manitoc did or something- Man-... like that.... itoc.
• 27:36
Now they don't have- Man- Now they don't, or Green Bay-... itoc... doesn't either. Man- But-... itoc. Come on, now. Yep. Well, you can come up here.
• 27:45
I've spent the last week, like, with a roofer's harness on, on my third story roof of my garage- Ooh... shoveling and throwing snow. Oh, man. Ooh.
• 27:56
[laughs] 'Cause, 'cause we have- And so I got a, I got a question for you, Dave... you know, 30 inches up there, so. Yeah. Um, I, I see a lot of pictures, uh, on the news and on Facebook, um, which is not news- [laughs]
• 28:09
... um, of, of a lot of snow. Like places just getting dumped on. W- where are they?
• 28:15
W- is this weird, or are they- Well, there's, I mean, there's the mountain snow that every- that's from this whole weird atmospheric river- Yeah... another one of the new weather terms that they're throwing at us.
• 28:27
But that- Thunder snow... the storms that have been pummeling- Thunder 10s... pummeling, um, California- Awesome... with rain have turned into, you know, five feet of snow- Yeah. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm...
• 28:40
in, in the mountains, in the Sierras and stuff like that. So like, if you're in, you know- Kind of, kind of freakish snowfall in a way... sh- right. Scary amount of snow. Yeah, yeah.
• 28:48
And then we, we up north typically get pretty good snow. This is a lot for us early. Yeah. Um, but we get some lake effect where I'm at. Yeah. So it comes in off of- We also get lake effect... Lake Superior. Yeah.
• 29:04
I'm right next to the Great Salt Lake, so we get lake effect as well. And ironically, our mountains, our ski resorts are still doing great. They're still getting, you know, 500 inches of snow.
• 29:12
It's just down at the lower elevations- Hmm... where it's been brown every winter. Yeah. Yeah, that's what, uh, Shell Track- Well, we could have looked farther north...
• 29:19
looked like this year, the race out there in Manitowoc. It was pretty, pretty brown field. Man- mantwok. Oh, I'm off. I'm Man- [laughs] I'm, I'm turn- I'm Mantwok. JK. Mantwok. What?
• 29:33
[laughs] I was just correcting the Mantwok. [laughs] Goddammit. Well, it's, conditions are pretty great up here. It's absolutely gorgeous. [laughs] Um, so if people are looking for that, that winter feel- Is, you-...
• 29:48
they can head up to our neck of the woods. Is your Airbnb selling out regularly? So I'm, I'm in Ogden, Utah, so w- can you tell me exactly where you're at? You're in northern Wisconsin area? Yeah.
• 29:59
I'm, I'm south of Duluth, about an hour- Seelye... south of Duluth. I would say it, but he doesn't have it in my guide. Look, look up Seelye, Wisconsin. I would say Seelye- [laughs]... but it's actually not on.
• 30:09
Yeah, Seelye, Hayward area right up there. Hayward is another good one. Chippewa. Yeah. Where are the 100 mile bike festival areas? Then look up Helen of Hayward. What latitude- South of American Birkebeiner Right...
• 30:21
what latitude are you guys up there? [laughs] Um, well, I- Like latitude, longitude, you know, like where are- 40, 44 north or something. Yeah. Something like that. Yeah, that fucking sucks
• 30:34
Yep, somewhere in that ballpark. [laughs] You also- All right. Just- [laughs] Dave, thanks very much, uh, for your snow report. It's kinda going off the rails- You bet... inside the studio here.
• 30:47
[laughs] Wait, wait, though. Thanks, you guys. What, what are you drinking? I am drink- I made, uh, walleye fajitas, so I'm, I'm drinking a elderberry margarita. Ah, well done. You are- Elderberry... so sophisticated.
• 31:02
Thank you. I love it... everything. Right on. All right, Dave, thanks again. Thanks, Dave. We'll ca- we'll catch up with you soon. [laughs] Thanks, Dave. Thanks, Dave. Adios. All right. Thanks, Dave. Oh.
• 31:16
[laughs] You guys are out of control. Well, s- Not all of us... yeah, someone is. [laughs] All right, I'm giving you your mic- That's not happening... giving you your mic back, Mike. Mike. Yes. You just- Mike...
• 31:26
you just, you just calm down over there. [laughs] Microphone check. Microphone check. How is everyone doing? Check, check. Yes, how is everyone doing tonight? [laughs] All right, Mark. I was just- Hey...
• 31:37
uh, wondering how- Yes, sir... everyone is feeling here in the, uh, chat room. So what are you guys doing? What, I mean, are you guys doing, like, exciting things? Tell me what you're doing.
• 31:48
I'm terribly excited right now. [laughs] Uh, I can hear it. I- I can hear it in your voice... I switched jobs, but, and I get to ride my bike every day to work again, which gets me pretty- That's awesome...
• 31:59
gets me pretty stoked. So, uh- [laughs] That's- And I've, I've, I'm breaking in my- I gotta tell you, like, no matter what, riding a bike is the only thing that makes me feel better. Absolutely.
• 32:12
I mean, no matter what, it's the only thing that makes me feel better. I'm right there. We're high-fiving- I'm right there... around the house. How- Yeah... around the room- We're all doing that... dumb fuckers. Come on.
• 32:20
Jesus H. Christ. Oh. But no, uh- A, a virtual high five to you, Mark... yeah, well, no, yeah. We, uh- As you're turning my mic on and whatever... as, as we've been saying, our, our winter has been really lackluster,
• 32:33
um- Yeah... from a, from a standpoint of fat biking. Um, but oh, which- Yeah... which, hey, wait- It is for me... since we're, since we're talking about bicycles, I have to say this before I forget again.
• 32:44
Um, but, but and unfortunately, Mark, you'd have to drive a long way, but I suggest at least once a year you get your bike professionally tuned. Now, I'm a pretty decent wrench. I can fake my way- Yeah, you damn good...
• 32:57
around a bike. But, but- Right... Steve, Steve Bostwitch, Bostitch? How do I say his last name? Bostwick. Bostwick- Yeah... is a motherfucking master. He's the ninja of bike repair. My- Right...
• 33:12
Fat Burger has never shifted better. Yeah, I learned this stuff from him. I saw that outside. He's, he's, uh, he's our, he's our number one wrench here at the- He is unreal... Everyday Cycles shop. Yeah.
• 33:21
And he's, he's pragmatic. Um, he's also a really just all around great human being. He's also bartending tonight over there at Uptown, folks. Oh, that's right, he is. He does that, too.
• 33:33
[laughs] And you know, since I'm throwing out fun facts about Steve, his dog has, his chihuahua has- Steve has-... a wiener the size- He's-... of New York... that dog has fleas. Oh, yeah.
• 33:43
Uh, he, he does have a long schlong. So I got a question for you guys. All right. Yeah. I got a question, I got a question for you guys. Um, there's, there's people around here- Frenchy and me...
• 33:53
that their, that their bikes don't really mean anything to them. They buy a brand new one, and then the next year they sell it so they can buy another new one. Posers. Now, they're- Ooh, posers... do you guys do that?
• 34:07
Yeah, I build bikes and then can't sell them, and then I go broke. Yeah. Yeah, I hear that. I mean- That's exactly my... Yeah, it's like- That's-... "Oh, I, well, I, I can't sell that one"...
• 34:16
we, we have a couple of select bike shops in Milwaukee that, that that is their clientele. Oh. Um, Ben's- Outside of this... Ben's Cycle especially. Um, they have- And fuck it...
• 34:26
they have a lot of doctor, lawyer, insert wealthy people here who, yes- Right... they will ride these bikes, and they'll ride them, uh, you know, I mean- Occasionally...
• 34:37
I, I, I won't say aggressively, but they'll put- Occasionally... you know, they'll put a couple of thousand miles on them- Occasionally... as soon as the new one's out- The shop's been there since 1909...
• 34:44
you know, what's 14 grand? That shop has been around, so- Yeah, that shop's been around forever There are very good, uh, taco places right around- But they, but they do-... 10th and Lincoln. Yes- Um-...
• 34:54
I will go there... they do have a clientele that that is their exact MO. And they're, you know, a lot of carpet fiber bikes, throwaway bikes. Carpet fiber? Carpet- Um, so- Carpet fiber?... things- Carpet fiber?...
• 35:05
you know- Uh, I, I'm not a fan of carbon fiber... I, I believe a bike is made to be used and recycled, not thrown away. Not to be abused and abused. Oh, no. I don't care.
• 35:14
And, and if you're that worried about a, a light bike, lose some weight, fat person, which is me. Ugh. All right. Which is me. All right. Hey, Mark, we're gonna, uh, wrap this up. Uh, y- Hi, Mark...

• 37:17
  [upbeat music]
