- 0:07My wallet is sobbing. Welcome to the Euro Legions
- 0:37Podcast episode 90. This week we're going to have
- 0:42three interviews with one with David Williams and Thomas
- 0:47Ballet. David is customizer.
- 0:49Of course, you all know him from the community and he's going to
- 0:53talk about what he's going to be bringing to his booth with Wolf
- 0:56King Customs. And Thomas is a toy
- 0:59photographer. He's also been a street retailer
- 1:02recently. He's going to talk about his
- 1:04experiences doing that and also what he's expecting from Legions
- 1:09Khan and what he's looking to pick up as a talk photographer
- 1:12and kind of, you know, just a little insight into into what
- 1:17it's going to be like for him at the con.
- 1:19Then we'll have Eugene Eunuch. He is going to talk to us about
- 1:24what he's going to bring to his table.
- 1:26That's Doctor Grimm customs table, so we'll talk all about
- 1:31that. Eugene is a great painter, great
- 1:33customizer. He always has fun, exciting
- 1:36takes on stuff. So it'll be very interesting to
- 1:40find out from him what to what to expect there.
- 1:43And last but not least, we have Chris James.
- 1:45He is running the Pop and Swap event this year at Legions Con,
- 1:50which is going to be on on this Saturday evening.
- 1:52So he'll talk to us all about what it's going to, what it's
- 1:55going to be like, what you know, what are the rules, kind of
- 1:58clarifying what you can and can't bring and also what to
- 2:01what to expect from that. So that's a very exciting thing
- 2:05that's kind of been officialized this year at the at Legions
- 2:09console. Very fun.
- 2:11Bring your bring your Legions father.
- 2:13Don't forget to pack a bit of it in your bag and take advantage
- 2:15of that opportunity to maybe pick up some parts that you
- 2:19thought you were never going to get your hands on.
- 2:22So that's all from me. And just a quick note that Rich
- 2:26is in the interview with David and Thomas, but he wasn't
- 2:31available the day we recorded the interviews with Eugene and
- 2:35Chris. So just so you know, if you
- 2:38don't hear from the second-half of the show, that's why.
- 2:41OK, I'm off to start packing my stuff for Allegiance Khan as
- 2:44very exciting. It's going to be next week, just
- 2:46a little travel day in between, but I'll see you all.
- 2:49If you're going to intern, I'll see you there.
- 2:52If not, I'll see you when you arrive at the con and make sure
- 2:55to come up and talk to us, call us names, slag us off for you
- 3:00know what we have and haven't said on the show.
- 3:02So that should be fun. And next week there will be
- 3:05another little episode popping into your feet early in the
- 3:07week. That's what the one and only
- 3:09Jeremy Gerard to give us a little insight at the con from
- 3:13his perspective, one of the men behind Legions Con.
- 3:16So would be very interesting and maybe we'll try and squeeze a
- 3:19little hint or two as to what to expect from G Con out of Jeremy.
- 3:24He never know. We're going to try our best
- 3:26anyway, OK Won't keep you too long because there's lots of
- 3:29interviews to get through. So enjoy.
- 3:38All right, welcome back to another, your allegiance
- 3:41interview tonight. We're going right across the
- 3:44pond all the way to Arizona, and what would normally be Arizona
- 3:48is actually right across to Normandy, just across the water
- 3:52from Richard Mal and just up the road a couple hours from me.
- 3:56It's so from Arizona. We have Dave Williams.
- 3:59You all know him. He's now designing pins for the
- 4:03horsemen and stuff. He's, you know, had a tribute
- 4:06figure made into an actual figure and he's a cool artist.
- 4:12How are you, David? I'm great man, thank you for
- 4:14having me. Yeah, no problem.
- 4:16Great to have you back on the show.
- 4:17And of course, other member of the Arizona Trio and we don't
- 4:23have Sam on, but we have Thomas Ballet.
- 4:26How are you, Thomas? Doing excellent.
- 4:28Thanks for having me guys. You're getting over your jet lag
- 4:31there in western France. Yeah, a little bit of jet lag,
- 4:36but surviving. Very good.
- 4:39And what's the plan? You just visiting people in
- 4:41France for a while and then. Yeah, spending the week with my
- 4:45grandparents and, you know, they're in their 90s, so taking
- 4:50advantage of spending time with them while I still can and
- 4:54eating a lot of good French food that I can't get in Arizona.
- 4:58Yeah, Thomas will be, you know, he's he's a, he's a, a spelt guy
- 5:03as it is. But you know, he might have a
- 5:04little punch on him after this trip, you know, for just just in
- 5:07time for leads. It's gone.
- 5:09No harm, you can. Afford it, Thomas, you can
- 5:11afford it. If any, if anybody, if anybody
- 5:13asks, I was with Thomas. That's why I've got a slight
- 5:15punch. I'm going to say slight quite a
- 5:17lot. Cool, and then you're off to my
- 5:23own country as well. Yes, Sir, taking a ferry from
- 5:27Shambu. Oh, that's, I've done that trip
- 5:29a lot of times. Yeah.
- 5:30Did you get I hope you got a cabin.
- 5:32We did, yeah. Yeah, I think it's 18 hours on
- 5:35the ferry. Yeah.
- 5:37Yeah, it's not. I think it leaves around 4430 in
- 5:39the afternoon and you get there at about 11 the next morning so.
- 5:42That's exactly it. Get on, get a good few bit of
- 5:46food, few pints, go to bed, wake up, you're there.
- 5:50That way. Cool and right.
- 5:54And so, David, how's the leaders can't prep bone?
- 5:58Are you panicking like all these other people we've been talking
- 6:00to? Not quite.
- 6:04I've been painting throughout the year and I've had a couple
- 6:08of really, yeah, a couple of really good days where I've just
- 6:11been able to go, you know, 10 in the morning till 8:00 at night
- 6:16and just paint all day uninterrupted.
- 6:18So I'm pretty much prepared. The T-shirts that I ordered from
- 6:22Dave Orkin are finished, so he'll bring those there and I'll
- 6:26roll them up and have them all ready to go.
- 6:28But yeah, it's, it's been a surprisingly stress free Regents
- 6:34con preparation. And now I'm just like, just
- 6:37excited. Yeah.
- 6:39Oh yeah, well that's the problem now.
- 6:41We have a couple of weeks still to wait, although when this
- 6:44episode is released it might be a bit closer to Legions console.
- 6:47That'll be fun for the people listening.
- 6:49But yeah, we have, we have another 3-4 weeks depending on
- 6:54when you're going to arrive. But no, that's because you're a
- 6:57veteran now, David, you know, you know that you need to start
- 7:00painting, you know, back in February when you, your people
- 7:02are like, oh, you know, I don't feel like it.
- 7:04You're like, yeah, I gotta do one or two, you know, keep it
- 7:07over. I'll take commissions throughout
- 7:10the year, yeah, here and there, like a head or two.
- 7:14So it kind of keeps me sharp. And then I, you know, I, I love
- 7:19making customs. If it wasn't for making any
- 7:22money or anything like that. I like, I just make them because
- 7:25I, I enjoy them. I really, really enjoy this
- 7:29line. And as it progresses and changes
- 7:31with new parts and new characters, it just makes it
- 7:34more exciting. Like I, I already have stuff in
- 7:37the works. Like all I got to get in hand is
- 7:42the Legions con exclusives and the retailer wave and I'll have
- 7:49another set of customs that I'm like ready to do based on some
- 7:52of those parts that that. Retailer Wave is sneaking up on
- 7:56this. I think it'll be here.
- 7:57It'll be the kind of post legions con or maybe even pre, I
- 7:59don't know, but let's say for sure post legions con kind of.
- 8:04Yeah, I think the street, Yeah, St. dates late, I think the
- 8:0929th. That's right, Chad.
- 8:10These are St. Yeah, yeah, So, so.
- 8:13Hopefully we'll, you know, we'll get a get a little breather.
- 8:17Oh, wasn't that the one? Yeah, what?
- 8:18I said Melvin, when we got the street date, I was like, oh
- 8:21thank God, it's actually just coming because.
- 8:25We had this. Like we've done a group
- 8:27pre-order with the with the retailer and so it's like over a
- 8:31grand would have had to go. Yeah, that's a, that's a cool
- 8:36wave too. I it is super excited about
- 8:38that. One Oh yeah, that Fisher Rice
- 8:41is, is coming. It's coming a lot of boxes that
- 8:44is coming over here. I think I ordered 5 of that guy.
- 8:48I think I worked out ordered 8 of them.
- 8:53So yeah, Mel did his own little order as well on top yeah of our
- 8:58group order. Love it.
- 9:00His own group order. Yeah.
- 9:03And then the figure obscura is like I, I tend to order 2 figure
- 9:08obscuras, like one to open, one to keep in the package just
- 9:11because it's, I mean, the packaging is part of the
- 9:14experience now, you know, like there's such nice boxes.
- 9:19So with the retailer stuff, it's cool to get those figures to use
- 9:23for parts because they tend to have so much new stuff.
- 9:29And this will be the first retailer wave that I get all of
- 9:33them. So I mean, who knows, maybe
- 9:38they're, you know, even cooler out-of-the-box.
- 9:40And now I'm like, well, I got to buy another one.
- 9:43Yeah, I mean, it's great to get that Monkey King again and and
- 9:47in the kind of slightly different colors, slightly
- 9:50broader gold and a few different things.
- 9:52Yeah, I like, I like that Jacob Marley a lot too, like the
- 9:55darker colors. Yeah, yeah, you don't always
- 9:58need to translucent figure, do you know?
- 10:01I do. I love them, yeah.
- 10:07Yeah, I just, yeah, I just, yeah, I just used the Jacob
- 10:11Marley for a custom and I was like, yeah, just translucent
- 10:15parts. I kind of shame to paint them,
- 10:17you know, that's what I was feeling.
- 10:20But yeah, I'm, I'm actually like with with that Fisher ice.
- 10:24I'm like, I'm really loving doing cosmic customs.
- 10:27And this last year, you know, you know, as cosmic has come
- 10:31out, it's I just find maybe there's just they fire my
- 10:35imagination more for that kind of stuff because you can do
- 10:37absolutely anything with whereas with mythic you kind of have to
- 10:42stay in the realm a little bit. Sure.
- 10:45You know, maybe you can't do those bright colors as much in
- 10:48mythic. I mean, they have done them with
- 10:50the MO 2 tributes, some of them at least.
- 10:52But but there's a reason for that.
- 10:54I don't think we could put a kind of a fluorescent barbarian
- 10:57in there anywhere, you know. Yeah, well, now it's kind of
- 11:02thinking maybe give it a go. You know what else is going to
- 11:07be cool after After Levinson is having having a Magnus head in
- 11:13circulation. Like something to be able to
- 11:15paint. That's a cool head.
- 11:17And and that you. Atlas two, Yeah, that's.
- 11:22That's cool. Like Magnus is the kind of more
- 11:24standard head. So there will be more of them
- 11:26because Atlas is the exclusive. But yeah, if you pick up two or
- 11:30three boxes of them, you you will have definitely one or two
- 11:34atlases to to do what you want with.
- 11:36For sure. We could, we could.
- 11:38That's a good way for people to customize those to maybe get an
- 11:42atom on into their collection. For sure it'll.
- 11:44Be the cheapest way you know uncanned isn't easy enough
- 11:49repaint you know in terms of getting all the parts together.
- 11:53But yeah, Adam on Celtics, you couldn't get the Celtics with
- 11:57Sir Gerard kind of sorted that one.
- 12:00And this one is going to help you do your custom Adam on and
- 12:05and Thomas, in terms of the photography, are you going to
- 12:08bring any prints to Legion's counter anthem or?
- 12:11Yeah, I I've been toying around with the idea of doing some
- 12:15prints. Last time we we spoke on the
- 12:18podcast, I was doing the the photography panel for the
- 12:22Phoenix. How did that?
- 12:25Go. So that was fantastic.
- 12:27We had a great turn out and that's what motivated me to do
- 12:31my first set of prints. And it was really cool to get
- 12:35just my work in like a physical form instead of just digital on
- 12:39the iPhone, you know. So seeing them all printed out
- 12:42was just really cool. So I've been toying around with
- 12:45the idea of bringing some prints to the con as far as, you know,
- 12:49quantities or which ones. That's still something I'm going
- 12:52to decide. Well, I'm on vacation here and
- 12:54I'll probably be ordering them on a fairy to Ireland, you know?
- 12:58Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 13:00One thing. One big piece of advice for that
- 13:03ferry is switch your phone off roaming mode or whatever because
- 13:07they have this. You can get it, you can get
- 13:10Internet on the ferry, you can get a Wi-Fi, but you can also
- 13:13get the phone reception. But the rate is like crazy.
- 13:18It's it's like outside of anything.
- 13:20It's like it's like €10 a MB or something like this.
- 13:23It's crazy. So don't touch it.
- 13:27So be careful. I got done by that.
- 13:29I lost £50 by that one of the trips.
- 13:32So that fifty was all right, you know, considering how it could
- 13:36have gone because in the EU they have this cap on roaming.
- 13:42If you're in the EU, you can use your mobile data in any country
- 13:46for the say, you know, it cover. It's whatever plan you have a
- 13:49bit like I guess in America, you know.
- 13:52So it works, but international waters is outside of that zone.
- 13:59Lesson learned. So, but cool.
- 14:03Yeah, well, I mean, even even if you got a couple of prints
- 14:05together just to to kind of show your work or even just to kind
- 14:08of hand out a few promotional things, that would already be
- 14:11awesome. Get a few more eyes on.
- 14:13Because there is so many great photographers and it is hard to
- 14:18kind of stand out from the pack without kind of putting yourself
- 14:22out there. So it's a really cool way, I
- 14:25think, physical. We're all collectors.
- 14:27So having a physical thing, you know, I know it definitely snap
- 14:30up prints. I mean, I got some art prints
- 14:32from you last year, David, and I couldn't believe you were
- 14:35selling them for $5.00. So that was already a huge
- 14:38bonus. And yeah, I just love them.
- 14:41I just love having those, you know?
- 14:43Yeah. We were, we were talking in the
- 14:45back backroom, like all all the physical stuff that you can get
- 14:51from this community is just so fun.
- 14:53Yeah. Whether it's, you know, pins or
- 14:55stickers or prints for, for some of that stuff, I, I frame it and
- 15:00I put it up and then something that I just, I have like a like
- 15:03a, an area in my toolbox where I just like, I have a stack of
- 15:08neat stuff. Yeah, you know.
- 15:10Exactly. It's just cool to to have, Yeah.
- 15:13I mean, even like, for example, door.
- 15:15Claire just put up a post yesterday as we're talking a
- 15:19couple of pins in different color ways and a shirt and those
- 15:22are 5 bucks pre-orders like boom, straight away.
- 15:26It's like straight in right there, you know.
- 15:29And then of course, the the beauty of that is because we're
- 15:32all going to legions con, you can collect them there.
- 15:34So there's no crap with with shipping, whether you're in the
- 15:39states or international shipping is still a pain.
- 15:41So great to to be able to pick them up there.
- 15:45Now you guys, you guys pack a couple extra empty bags, right?
- 15:51Yes, that right, Rich. Empty.
- 15:53Empty. Yeah, there's, there's, there's
- 15:55not much in my bag. Well, apart from this, if I'm
- 15:57going to try and sell, but generally, yeah, the bags are
- 15:59pretty empty when I come over. Yeah, yeah, that's what I do.
- 16:02I I, my suitcase is nearly empty.
- 16:05I just have like, the heads Len LaGuardia provides me with,
- 16:09like, the headstand. Yeah.
- 16:12So, so that way I don't have to have like, a fragile giant piece
- 16:16of wood in a suitcase. So essentially my my suitcase is
- 16:19empty when I get there and I just bring a backpack with some
- 16:22clothes in it. Yeah, I'm probably going to try
- 16:27this year. Apart from the Armory, do not
- 16:30buy too many figures from the Horsemen, No.
- 16:35And if I do buy anything like I'll buy the exclusives, but I'm
- 16:39sure I've just realized I don't do anything with those boxes
- 16:41anyway. So I'm just going to probably
- 16:44RIP the figures out and put them in as kind of singles because
- 16:49then it takes up hardly any room.
- 16:50Whereas if you're trying to figure out the boxes, you know,
- 16:53even like the first year I went, I actually offered to bring back
- 16:56some exclusives in box for people.
- 16:58I realized that was a bad idea. You know, I ended up having to
- 17:02buy an extra luggage bag even I had, I had two bag allowance,
- 17:08but I only brought one bag because I thought, yeah, I
- 17:10didn't need it and ended up having to buy like a $20 sports
- 17:14bag just to tell you. And it was just literally these
- 17:16boxes. And then they're going to get
- 17:18dinged, you know. So even at that point, you know,
- 17:21it's not going to be perfect. It's not going to be like
- 17:23getting this shipped in a in a nice bubble wrapped, you know,
- 17:27sealed box. They're going to pay out of
- 17:30Rich's book and just ripping them all open.
- 17:32Oh yeah, that come in the suitcase.
- 17:35No. If you can't do that when I'm
- 17:36not in the room, that would be great.
- 17:39John, if I only, if I only buy two things, I'm going to make
- 17:41sure I'm boxing when you're there.
- 17:44Even if you leave the room, I might follow you down the hall
- 17:46just like unboxing them as you go.
- 17:48I'll tell you what, we record a podcast of Rich just unboxing
- 17:51and it's just going to be 45 minutes of just like ASMR
- 17:56plastic crinkling. So if anyone's into that,
- 17:59that'll be episode 100 of this podcast.
- 18:02I'm planning on getting as much this year so.
- 18:05There's a couple of Youtubers that that open the package on
- 18:09the video and it drives you nuts man.
- 18:11It's absolute worst. Yeah, I mean, even like I know
- 18:18some part of some like live stream shows, OK, that's
- 18:21unavoidable in a way, but maybe mute and let somebody else talk.
- 18:26But yeah, that that is what it's.
- 18:29Did your wife just walk in the room there, Rich, when you said
- 18:31I'm not going to buy as much this year?
- 18:36No, but she might watch the recording, so I just got to, you
- 18:38know. Wow, another loyal listener from
- 18:43Bristol. I just thought you were the only
- 18:45one. What I did last year for
- 18:49bringing the figures back was I, I just put everything in a big
- 18:53cardboard box, 1 of the, you know, case cases from the four
- 18:57Horsemen. I just lined it all up and I
- 18:59checked that in as my luggage. The airline let's you check, you
- 19:03know, big cardboard box as your luggage.
- 19:05I only had a carry on on my way there and I had one luggage
- 19:09allowed. So just big box and it was a
- 19:13one, it was a direct flight, so. Yeah.
- 19:16Yeah, when it's a direct flight, that's yeah, I go out of my way
- 19:19to to make sure I get that direct flight if I can, because
- 19:23as soon as you have to change, you know, no, last year not
- 19:27getting a direct flight because I had a had a punctured tire on
- 19:31the way to the airport. So I was lucky to get there, but
- 19:34there was no mess ups. But, and I think the reason
- 19:37there was no mess ups is because I had to collect my bag in the
- 19:41ended up in Washington airport or the Dulles or something.
- 19:45I ended up having to take that off the carriage, baggage
- 19:49carriage and actually bring it to some other carriage set and
- 19:51put it on. So I actually physically brought
- 19:53my bag to the next flight. But I think if you're relying on
- 19:57them transferring your bag, best of luck.
- 19:59Yeah, I can vouch for that because I tried this.
- 20:01I did the same approach coming home from Ishcon when me, David
- 20:05and Sam went out there and they left my bags in Dallas.
- 20:10They flew me home to Phoenix. But remember chatting.
- 20:14To you on the on the messenger or whatever and you were telling
- 20:17me that you had the bag a nightmare, but you eventually
- 20:19got it. Yeah, it was two days later and
- 20:22showed up in Phoenix was. Wow.
- 20:24And you had, I suppose you had some stuff you bought in that
- 20:26bag and all that kind of stuff. Oh yeah, I mean, it was, it was
- 20:30literally just a Four Horsemen shipping box full of figures.
- 20:35Oh wow. I was.
- 20:37I mean, I can lose my socks and underwears all day.
- 20:39That would have been well, how was Ishkhan boys?
- 20:44Did you have a table there, David?
- 20:45Or I know you know you did the reveal of the awesome figure,
- 20:49obviously. Yeah, no, I I knew about the
- 20:52reveal, which is why I went. Yeah.
- 20:54And and then I just kind of convinced Thomas that it should
- 20:59be. It would be fun.
- 21:02And I think he, I think he, he agrees.
- 21:04Yes, he agrees. Yeah, yeah, I.
- 21:06Think you've got time? Much convincing.
- 21:09No, we were we were doing a toy show together and and we were
- 21:12talking about upcoming conventions and how we we had
- 21:16missed Mesquite con and he was like, I'm thinking about going
- 21:19to ish con. I'm like, I'm definitely going.
- 21:21We can share a room, like just just come.
- 21:24It'll be fun, you know, all the while knowing that I'm like,
- 21:27it's going to be pretty cool for me.
- 21:32And and what is super? Special.
- 21:35How is the the toy community in Arizona then?
- 21:38Like is it a growing thing? Is it a thing that's always
- 21:41existed or? It's let's say it's growing, is
- 21:47growing, but as far as our legions community, it's it's
- 21:51pretty small and tight knit. There's a handful of us not not
- 21:57too many. I think.
- 21:59I mean David and I met in New Jersey for the first time.
- 22:02So tells you how closely knit our Arizona.
- 22:06Crew is, yeah. Since then, I think we've gotten
- 22:09a lot closer, But that was one of the big things that kind of
- 22:14enticed us to do. A street team in Arizona was,
- 22:17you know, there's not that many people that are familiar with
- 22:21the line, or if they are, they've never held the figures
- 22:25in hand. You know, that was a great
- 22:27opportunity to get people to, you know, hold these figures and
- 22:31see what they're really like. So it's definitely growing, I
- 22:35think more every every month, every reveal, you know, there's
- 22:39more and more people coming aboard.
- 22:41Yeah. How?
- 22:42Did the street team? Thing go.
- 22:47Thomas. Oh, the street team was
- 22:49fantastic. Man, I I didn't know what to
- 22:52expect. I talking with Jeremy.
- 22:54I was, you know, looking at quantities, how much to order
- 22:58and it was, you know, first time, first time around.
- 23:00So it's a little daunting, right?
- 23:03Don't want to order too much and and then end up with a bunch of
- 23:07stock and don't want to order too little and then just not
- 23:12really have a good representation.
- 23:14So I think we had a really good spread.
- 23:16We got both mythic and cosmic. Jeremy kind of helped me decide
- 23:20the figures. Give give me some, you know,
- 23:23tips on which ones, you know, are going to be the best ones.
- 23:26And then obviously we had a representative from 4 Horsemen,
- 23:31Mr. David Williams, you know, artist for the studio.
- 23:35So that was a big selling point. It's a really good show that we
- 23:40did it at. It's a show that happens almost
- 23:42quarterly in Phoenix. So there's a good attendance.
- 23:46A lot of folks that we're already familiar with in the
- 23:48community, but they're not too familiar with Four Horsemen
- 23:51products. So it was kind of introducing
- 23:55already toy collectors to this line.
- 23:58And since then I've had to make a couple of actual St. team
- 24:03deliveries post convention people messaging me.
- 24:06Hey, do you still have any of those four Horsemen figures?
- 24:11Got any of those figures, huh? Yeah.
- 24:12This plastic crack dealer, he's throwing them in the car and I'm
- 24:17meeting them at the local gas station.
- 24:21All right, funny, we were in Arizona, boys, huh?
- 24:27And David was like being being an official ambassador of the
- 24:31Horsemen then. It was, it's such a surreal
- 24:35thing. I'll, I'll forever have kind of
- 24:37an imposter syndrome when it comes to that.
- 24:40But it, it was, it was really fun to get to represent like, or
- 24:47just like show people those toys because we, we brought a bunch
- 24:51of figures that were out of package so we could hand them to
- 24:53people and have them play with them and mess with them.
- 24:56And because of the way we had it set up, there were so many
- 25:01people that walked up like, what is this, like, what are you guys
- 25:03doing? And to be able to like hand them
- 25:07a figure and tell them all about it, but on a much more intimate
- 25:10level because of our, you know, relationship with the studio,
- 25:14like just all of us together. It, it was a lot of fun.
- 25:20Like it was, it was just a super special feeling to be like, this
- 25:26is, you know, it's our thing too, you know?
- 25:29Absolutely, Yeah, Yeah. What about when you're, you
- 25:35know, when you've got a customer in the tattoo studio?
- 25:37Does it ever come up about? Yeah, I.
- 25:40Figures and stuff. Like that I I have mythic
- 25:43legions figures like all over my station.
- 25:46I have a bookcase behind me and people are curious, like it's
- 25:52definitely not your average tattoo shop decor.
- 25:58So they'll ask about them and, and you know, sometimes we're
- 26:00sitting there for 2-3 hours and we run out of what do you do for
- 26:04a living? But you know, how was your
- 26:06morning? What kind of shows do you like?
- 26:08And they're like, So what are you doing?
- 26:09I'm like, I paint toys and that becomes a whole conversation in
- 26:15which just goes straight to mythic legions.
- 26:17But there are a couple of clients I've had that are toy
- 26:22collectors and they usually do like the Mezco stuff or Funko
- 26:26Pops. But it's surprising how many
- 26:28people know what mythic legions are or figure obscure us
- 26:32specifically because that one's so much more varied that it's
- 26:38the same as a toy show. Like I'll hand them one of the
- 26:40figures and they'll mess with it.
- 26:42And they're like, so you can just order these.
- 26:43And it's been really cool that they've been having this in
- 26:47stock sale because I've, I've had a couple of people that
- 26:49order figures on the spot and they're like, well, I want to
- 26:52try, you know, I had one client that I told him the 1000 Swigs
- 26:57story and he was like, can I buy that figure?
- 26:59And I'm like, yeah, bought it on the spot.
- 27:02Awesome, just about everyone when we get to the Anthropilias
- 27:07conversation, you know, should we get there, they'll they'll
- 27:12usually go on big Dad and pre-order one or wow, because
- 27:15they're like, yeah, my tattoo artist has a has a toy.
- 27:18I'm going to, I'm going to get it, you know, of course.
- 27:21Yeah. And then at some point you might
- 27:23have to do a tattoo of him on on somebody you know or you know.
- 27:26I've considered I have a spot like on my thigh that I can
- 27:29still reach. You could do it yourself.
- 27:32Have you done tattoos on yourself?
- 27:33Yeah. Oh, a ton of them, yeah.
- 27:35Wow, that's, that's not, that's not too kind of weird or, you
- 27:40know, kind of, I don't know how to explain it because I've never
- 27:44had a tattoo, so I've never given a tattoo.
- 27:46So I don't know. Now you kind of, you kind of
- 27:48separate yourself from, you know, you're the worker, you're,
- 27:51you're working as opposed to like just feeling it, you know,
- 27:56I mean, I, I don't need to go into detail, but I, I have
- 28:00tattooed myself quite a bit. And it's usually just weird
- 28:02little things that I can knock out in a second or really
- 28:06tedious work that no one really wants to do.
- 28:11You know, like, like I, I, my leg is all black.
- 28:16Like I, I tattooed my, my leg and it was just, nobody wants to
- 28:20really do that. So I sat in the shop for about 5
- 28:23hours and had a couple of beers and just tattooed myself and it
- 28:27was, you know, after hours. I don't do that stuff while
- 28:29while we're. Open.
- 28:30Like it's like no one wants to base coat, you know, a troll
- 28:34figure. From Yeah, it's the.
- 28:36Same type of thing, you know, get that spray can out.
- 28:41Yeah, for sure. Yeah.
- 28:43It's it's I was wondering, do you know, because people always
- 28:46say, you know, you shouldn't get a like a this is not relevant
- 28:49for you or man now Rich, but you shouldn't get a haircut from
- 28:52somebody that has a bad haircut themselves.
- 28:55And I say, yeah, but they can they can't give themselves their
- 28:57own haircut, you know? Yeah.
- 29:00But at the same time, if they let if they have a bad haircut,
- 29:03that is a bad sign. Let's be honest.
- 29:04I. Always think then tattooers with
- 29:07the bad tattoos are some of the better tattooers because it's
- 29:12like yeah, yeah I mean I've been getting tattooed since 1997 and
- 29:17all my. Tattoos they have, yeah.
- 29:19My tattoos are awful. Like things that were cool in
- 29:231997 are not cool anymore, you know, which is why a lot of this
- 29:28stuff is blacked out and covered up.
- 29:31And I, I use that to my advantage when people have an
- 29:36idea or a concept that I'm like, you know, take it from the guy
- 29:40with three black limbs, like cover ups that like, maybe I
- 29:48have a better idea of what would be best for you, you know, or,
- 29:52you know, and while still keeping their design in mind and
- 29:56everything, you know, you know, all the, the qualities of it,
- 29:59but. Do you get a lot of like sports
- 30:02people in, you know, whether it be especially professional
- 30:05sports people? Because I mean, I saw this thing
- 30:07the other day online of like all these famous footballers like,
- 30:09and most of the really well known like so soccer players
- 30:12we're talking about here. And they're all like full back
- 30:16tattoos and, you know, kind of full leg tattoos, whatever.
- 30:20Really these days we we had a couple of the University of
- 30:23Arizona guys get tattooed over the years.
- 30:29I don't. My style doesn't really lend
- 30:31itself to gotcha the general public.
- 30:35Like I'll take walk insurance and whatever, but if you look at
- 30:37my work, it's like, oh, that's the guy who does the weird
- 30:40spooky stuff, you know? So I just kind of stick to that.
- 30:46Gotcha. Gotcha.
- 30:47And do you have tattoos, Thomas or?
- 30:50Yeah. Yeah, a couple.
- 30:53Yeah, very good. None from David or not.
- 30:57Yet. No, not yet.
- 30:59But. Certainly bound to happen.
- 31:02And apart from the my wife's going to kill me crew, have you
- 31:04done any kind of legions related tattoos and anyone ever?
- 31:09Not really IA lot of some of the armor references, like if I do
- 31:14like a like an armored character, like I'll do Knights
- 31:17or skeletons or whatever, and that's just stuff I like to
- 31:21draw, but I'll throw in a piece of the legions armor just as
- 31:27like a little nod and it fits perfectly.
- 31:30I mean, it's yeah, for the most part they've they've done such a
- 31:34good job of creating fantasy armor that looks functional that
- 31:39it you know, it looks cool in a picture.
- 31:42So and that's just my own personal touch on it.
- 31:45Nobody. I never tell people this is from
- 31:47a toy like this. It's from your, it's from your
- 31:51own knowledge bank in your head, you know.
- 31:52Yeah, exactly. It's from a toy.
- 31:53It doesn't really matter, does it?
- 31:55But I have yeah. I've seen like, you know,
- 31:58historical armor over the years. And when you look at the Legion
- 32:01stuff, like especially those, you know, the plates that kind
- 32:04of line up on each other kind of and go in like a stairs almost.
- 32:08That's very historically accurate to a lot of different
- 32:11types of armor. There you go.
- 32:12The valiant night Thomas has it had to bring some figures.
- 32:14Which which figures did you bring on holiday then?
- 32:16So Skelly, Legion builder, obviously the classy A Valiant
- 32:21knife. They are such.
- 32:22Good, there's those two. Brought a snag along and I
- 32:26brought a plundering. I've got a plundering.
- 32:28I bring it all cool. Everywhere with me.
- 32:30My plundering has been Italy. It's been all over the place.
- 32:34So brilliant. Cool.
- 32:36Shall we look at some of the stuff?
- 32:38So, David, what table are you at?
- 32:40I know you're in the Wolf King area.
- 32:42Is it same as last year? Yeah, it's the same spot, just
- 32:45about. It's like a little like I'll be
- 32:47the next table over. I'm sharing with Steven Bosati.
- 32:50Oh, good luck with. That.
- 32:52Yeah, but which is pretty cool. Like we've, we've had a little
- 32:59conversation about how it's like, it's kind of cool that we
- 33:03both got tributes. And so I, I actually made
- 33:07stickers. I got permission from the
- 33:09studio. We're not going to sell them.
- 33:10They're going to be giveaways. But I made stickers of the the
- 33:14heads of our 2 characters to give away.
- 33:17Nice. So that's a pretty neat little
- 33:21thing. Wouldn't happen to be this,
- 33:23would it? It would happen to be that.
- 33:25Yeah, it's exactly. Yeah, there's one we prepared
- 33:30earlier. Yeah.
- 33:31Yeah, it's very cool. Yeah.
- 33:32Yeah. So that's those are going to be
- 33:34free at the table. I think I ordered 250 of each.
- 33:38So it's they're two separate stickers.
- 33:40Is it one of each? Yeah.
- 33:41Yeah, they're, they're laser cut, so they're the shape of the
- 33:44character, I think. Yeah.
- 33:46Oh, that's sweet. I think they're 3 inches tall.
- 33:50They're neat stickers. And I I love Steven.
- 33:52I think he's just such a cool guy.
- 33:54Like, especially in person. I like his persona on the show.
- 33:58I think it's yeah, yeah, good, great Comic Relief.
- 34:01But in person, man, that guy is such a sweetheart.
- 34:04Like I love him. Oh, he's lovely.
- 34:05He's a lovely guy. Yeah, he's, he's actually, it's,
- 34:08he's not like he's on the show in a way.
- 34:10You know, yeah. So.
- 34:11So it'll be fun sharing a table with him.
- 34:14Yeah. And I think we're both doing
- 34:15painted heads. And I'll have shirts, which is
- 34:19pretty cool. Yeah, exactly.
- 34:22So you're just down the you're actually just a couple down from
- 34:25us. So that would be cool.
- 34:28We'll be able to wave. So this is your T-shirt design?
- 34:32Yeah, those are. We've printed those on super
- 34:36soft Tees, so they're like the comfortable ones.
- 34:40They're not. The box, I remember you telling
- 34:42me that that that's your very important for you to get that
- 34:46type of shirt it's. Yeah, I I try and get the shirts
- 34:49that don't shrink up too bad. Yeah, after you wash them, even
- 34:53if you do dry them. I didn't put into consideration.
- 34:56I was talking to a couple of guys in a video chat one time.
- 34:59I dry all my clothes outside or all my shirts outside of.
- 35:02Course, you live in Arizona. You can.
- 35:04Yeah, and I didn't realize nobody does that.
- 35:07Like they're like, oh, I can do it maybe two months out of the
- 35:09year. I'm like dude, I my shirts dry
- 35:11in 10 minutes. Yeah, exactly.
- 35:14Yeah, yeah. If you get a call from someone I
- 35:16see in an hour and you're like, OK, I'm just putting my shirt in
- 35:18the washing machine. It'll be it'll be good.
- 35:20Yeah. Yeah, I mean, it's it's 96°
- 35:23today, so wow. It's not that over this
- 35:28direction, Thomas. Huh.
- 35:30No, definitely not About half of that, yeah.
- 35:34Not an American, but it was 1010° here today in Celsius and
- 35:38it was chilly. It was nice little chilly
- 35:40breeze. So the beauty of your T-shirt
- 35:44design, David, is that you can do the art on it yourself.
- 35:48So it's like a it's a fully rounded awesome thing.
- 35:53It's cool, but it's also like, it's kind of like, like I, I,
- 36:00I'm the biggest critic of my work.
- 36:02So it's like, I'll Draw Something and I'll submit it and
- 36:05then I'm like, man, I would just do a different, you know, So
- 36:08it's like this, this character went through so many revisions
- 36:11because I thought, you know, one thing was not done right or the,
- 36:17you know, the angle of something or whatever.
- 36:19But but it's fun to it's fun to be able to Draw Something and
- 36:22have somebody like Dave work and make it because we're buds, you
- 36:26know, so it's like we can e-mail back and forth and it's really
- 36:32cool to have somebody like that in your pocket.
- 36:34And and as opposed to working with AT shirt company that's
- 36:38like by the book, you know, like stipulations everywhere, you
- 36:44know. And for the listeners, we
- 36:47consider David is a very experienced T-shirt reseller.
- 36:51So you know you're going to get the top, top service from him.
- 36:55Everything will be nicely bowed up and everything.
- 36:58Oh yeah, he's. Well.
- 37:00Dave working is. His No, I was talking about you.
- 37:03Oh yeah. Well, yeah, being in, being in
- 37:06bands for 20 years, we made a lot of T-shirts.
- 37:10Yeah. So exactly, I'll get them all
- 37:12rolled up and ready. It was last year's week.
- 37:18Coverage I. Was going to say as last year
- 37:20somebody came up to our table and the three was just
- 37:22scribbling on the floor trying to find the size they wanted.
- 37:24It was, it was not. It was not professional.
- 37:27Well, this year it's going to be different because, yeah,
- 37:30hopefully we get them a little bit earlier and.
- 37:33I'll, I'll let you roll them on. We'll have a yeah, we'll have
- 37:36like a little, a little short night.
- 37:38We can just sit upstairs and roll up our shirts.
- 37:40Yeah, is that, are you rich? I even have a spreadsheet of the
- 37:44list of all the people, Goodman, Goodman in order.
- 37:47So you know. So David, are you doing or have
- 37:51I missed because that's quite possible this year.
- 37:53I'm not following the cabal very well.
- 37:55Are you doing a pre-order or are you just going to sell them on
- 37:58the? No, I like to have.
- 38:01I like to buy things in person. I like to sell things in person.
- 38:06It's always sad or a bummer when you go up and you're like, hey,
- 38:08I want a shirt. And you're like, well, I have
- 38:10this box of shirts that haven't been picked up yet, but you
- 38:13can't have one. Yeah.
- 38:15Yeah, that does. It's tricky, but we had the
- 38:17opposite problem last year. We had the box of shirts and we
- 38:19had to bring a lot of them home. So that's the other side of it.
- 38:23Yeah, but that could have been down to us not selling them
- 38:25properly, you know, as in not pushing them.
- 38:28Yeah, it's, I mean, it's a crack shoot.
- 38:32It's like I, I felt like, I felt like there was a good enough
- 38:34response. Yeah.
- 38:36And then? On us doing, I do think when
- 38:38it's, I do think when it's your own art as well, it makes a
- 38:40difference. And then it's like.
- 38:43Yeah. Yeah.
- 38:45It's just, it's just it's good to, you know, show it early and
- 38:51then just do things like this where it's a little reminder
- 38:53that, you know, yeah. You want to share it off?
- 38:57I think what this shirt has over maybe some of those and our own
- 39:02is that previously I think the one we've got this year is a
- 39:04little different, but it is just a cool shirt as well, as well as
- 39:10having a meaning to the people who know what the meaning is.
- 39:13So I think. They will generally sell better,
- 39:16those sort of shirts. I think that's what's kind of
- 39:18about, that's what I was saying about designing a shirt is I
- 39:21want, I don't want to just put my name on it because it's like,
- 39:26again, I've said it before, I have just such an average name
- 39:30doesn't even sound cool. So it's like rugby scrum half.
- 39:34I was going to say, you've got, you've got a Welsh surname,
- 39:36David, Don't you put that name down?
- 39:37It's got a Welsh name full. Stop.
- 39:40But it's cool, man. I always try and draw like a
- 39:42cool metal shirt, you know, like everybody looks cool in a black
- 39:46T-shirt and everybody looks cool with with a a medieval brutal
- 39:51design on it. It's like anyone can wear it.
- 39:55It looks cool and it's it's entirely aesthetic, you know, as
- 40:01opposed to being. Like shirt that you design comes
- 40:04in as well, because you designed Door Claire's shirt as well,
- 40:07didn't you? So and that, that's another one
- 40:09that applies to even though it says door Claire, it's a very
- 40:13cool dungeon sort of design, isn't it?
- 40:17Yeah, I think, I think it's really important then to have a
- 40:21cool aesthetic when you when you create.
- 40:26It's like I could draw a different stuff, but I luckily
- 40:30I'm into this stuff, but I prefer to draw stuff for people,
- 40:34like for people to wear and I think that I think looks cool.
- 40:39So Thomas, when when aunt to fillies eventually drops, you
- 40:43got to get David to do a zone AT shirt, you know, for the crew.
- 40:47Oh, absolutely. I think, I think the Zone's
- 40:51thing's kind of grown into to more than that, Jeremy to.
- 40:55Move to Arizona, you know? Yeah, right.
- 40:58Apart from him, he wrote. That into the bio and.
- 41:02It's cool, I've been. It's kind of grown more, yeah.
- 41:05Totally. I've I've brought that up to
- 41:08people when explaining the antithelius figure that it kind
- 41:12of like we, we have like kind of a sense of pride in Arizona.
- 41:16We all love it here. It's it's a it's a weird place,
- 41:19but it was cool to be like almost canonized in a, in a
- 41:26sci-fi series that we're like, there is a desert called, you
- 41:29know, zone A and that's that's us.
- 41:32That's that's our theme. So people, people get a kick out
- 41:37of it and they think it's really neat to to just have that little
- 41:41nod, you know? So there they are.
- 41:43There's the there's the three boys.
- 41:48Speaking of the Dorklare shirt. Yeah, that that shirt I'm
- 41:52wearing is is the one I designed for our tattoo shop.
- 41:56Wow. Oh yeah.
- 41:57See, that's cool. Is that an armored?
- 42:01It's an armored theme. She has fangs, so she is a
- 42:04vampire. But I Yeah.
- 42:08And that's one that I, that was like the armor based on.
- 42:11I just used Lady Outerona as like a reference, you know that?
- 42:16Looks like Lady A, Yeah. So, and that was deliberate
- 42:20entirely because it's like, it's my shirt, I can do whatever I
- 42:22want with it, so I might as well make a cool armored babe that
- 42:28looks like a mythic Allegiance character.
- 42:31Totally. That's awesome.
- 42:33And you must have been somewhere warm doing that because you're
- 42:34all in T-shirts, whereas oppose in New Jersey last year, you're
- 42:37wrapped up like you're in the North Pole.
- 42:41Yeah, that was that was at Ishkhan.
- 42:43It was hot there. Oh, yeah.
- 42:45Oh, yeah. I heard that it was warm, Yeah.
- 42:48And then they got some sort of a like a rainstorm or something
- 42:51like that at some point. Yeah.
- 42:54But it was different from our type of rain.
- 42:56So we were all excited about it like it was.
- 42:58It was a new yeah. What can we take Arizona?
- 43:03Is actually exciting. Oh.
- 43:06Yeah, it's exciting, but it's a little bit terrifying because
- 43:09like now we don't have natural disasters, but we we get these
- 43:14monsoons that'll that'll tear up like like 100 year old cactuses
- 43:19will just be uprooted and just thrown into the into the desert.
- 43:25So you got to be, you know, a little wary of what's in your
- 43:27backyard and what's in your front yard and what's going to
- 43:30fall on your vehicle. Totally, Yeah.
- 43:34Complete and that and it lasts for 15 minutes and then it's
- 43:36over and it's just destructive. So when it just rains water from
- 43:42the sky at in North Carolina, it's exciting.
- 43:48It's just nice. Yeah, exactly.
- 43:50Yeah, I think Jordan got some video of me and Sam, like
- 43:53dancing in the rain and it started coming.
- 43:55Down. Yeah, that's kind of probably
- 43:57what reminded me of it, yeah. Like this is fantastic.
- 44:01There's not a bunch of dust in the sky with.
- 44:03The rain, it's just coming. Down on its own, you know.
- 44:05Yeah, the boys in T-shirts, you know.
- 44:09No, no appreciation for a rain jacket.
- 44:11They don't even have one. Why would you have a rain jacket
- 44:13from your? Yeah, I leave mine with my
- 44:17grandparents in Normandy. Yeah, you need it when you go
- 44:20there and yeah, Irish weather over there and right, David,
- 44:25let's have a look at a couple of customs.
- 44:27So this to me looks like Wolverine type tribute or?
- 44:31Yeah, yeah. That's the head I got from Dirk
- 44:33Nagle. I just, we put together a little
- 44:38cosmic dwarf. Usually when I make customs I
- 44:42try and only use Legion stuff. So it's like rather than trying
- 44:46to do 3 claws, I just did the the two on each hand.
- 44:50Yeah, just because it's, it's not Wolverine.
- 44:54But it's not not Wolverine. Yeah.
- 44:58Yeah, this one I'll have on my table for sale.
- 45:00Awesome. He's a cool, a really cool
- 45:03figure. But I'll have both heads
- 45:05available. Like you can have both heads
- 45:06when you. Yeah.
- 45:07So this is the other head, is it?
- 45:09Mm hmm. And is this an exclusive head or
- 45:12is this? I believe he sells them online.
- 45:16OK, so it's just one of Dirk's heads and stuff.
- 45:19And I bought him at Ish Con and that was immediately when I saw
- 45:23him, I was like, I'm going to make this cosmic dwarf guy.
- 45:27Very cool. Yeah.
- 45:29How much are you looking forward to the to the dwarf pack for for
- 45:33more dwarf limbs that maybe I. Love the dwarf figures, man.
- 45:37They're, they're just cool. Like they're, they're, they're
- 45:41real playable, you know? Yeah, I can't believe that at
- 45:44some point, like at some point, people were complaining that
- 45:47they weren't like a full figure. Yeah, that's such a weird but.
- 45:55Like at the start of the line, that's what you have to deal
- 45:58with. You know, all these like
- 45:59obviously Legions was a new line once all these new lines that
- 46:03are launching, I mean, you have to have, I don't know, like kind
- 46:06of this personality that you just don't care what people say
- 46:09to just to get through the initial funding of a Kickstarter
- 46:14or whatever it might be. You really have to have thick
- 46:16skin, which is why I mean the Horsemen are lovely.
- 46:20So, you know, they just must kind of, they have their own
- 46:24support group, but like guys like Bobby Valla or, you know,
- 46:28whatever they, they just kind of blanket or, you know, just push
- 46:32back in it and don't care what people say about them and can
- 46:36kind of just get on with their day.
- 46:37Whereas I think I'd be like a sobbing mess.
- 46:40You know, it's the first bad comments come in, you know?
- 46:42Yeah, you know, but it's funny. This I love.
- 46:50So it's a skeleton Legion builder, and that's Brian Burke
- 46:53head. Is that right from Burke
- 46:55Customs? Yeah, when a.
- 46:57Couple a handful of months ago when Steamboat Willie went
- 47:02public domain there was a company that made like most post
- 47:06style Mickey Mouse figures and they were like kind of horror
- 47:08base. That's right.
- 47:11So me and Brian were both really stoked on that figure, but the
- 47:14head is kind of dumb. Like it's, it's just not as cool
- 47:18as it could be. So he was like, I'm going to,
- 47:21I'm going to sculpt the skull, a rat skull for that body.
- 47:25And it'll be like, more of like a rat and like this goofy Mickey
- 47:29Mouse. And I think those figures got
- 47:32delayed because they're not out yet.
- 47:34So he just resized it for legions and sent me one because
- 47:39of our initial conversation. He was like, yeah, I'd love to
- 47:41see what you do with it. And man, that is a cool head to
- 47:45paint. Yeah, it looks awesome.
- 47:47Yeah. Ryan Burke is Brian Berg's
- 47:50sculpts are so well done. Yeah, he, he takes his time in
- 47:55terms, you know what I mean? Like he doesn't just churn them
- 47:57out. He like really takes care to to
- 47:59do them, you know, the the way he's happy with them.
- 48:03And I think that then shows, I think Brian will have this
- 48:07allegiance on this sculpt, so. Yeah, I believe.
- 48:09I believe he will. And I'll.
- 48:11I don't want to give away any other secrets.
- 48:13He well, he sort of hinted that there might be others in line
- 48:18with this one, but that it was only a hint.
- 48:20So yeah. Yeah.
- 48:23Yeah, we'll see what he's got. I'm going to.
- 48:24I'm going to spend a lot of money at his table.
- 48:26Now look at that. We're on to one of our heads and
- 48:30say, damn, that's a good head. Look at that.
- 48:34So this this was awesome to see when you posted it.
- 48:40And Frankenstein creature matched with our cosmic like
- 48:48supposed cosmic. But you know, it works for this
- 48:50type of a creature as well. For legions gone.
- 48:54Yeah, did you? Did you kind of you.
- 48:57I suppose you didn't know about Frankenstein's creature, but it
- 48:59was when you saw the Frankenstein you just thought,
- 49:01right? No, this was this.
- 49:03Yeah, this was like a shotgun paint.
- 49:05I had him primed to do. I was just going to do because
- 49:09everybody's that have painted these already have done a
- 49:13fantastic job. And I thought of what he could
- 49:16go on and I'm like, well, somebody already did a blue one
- 49:19for, you know, Oleg Sagar and somebody already did a green
- 49:23one. It looks good on no being lean,
- 49:26but this, I was going to paint this in human flesh tone like it
- 49:31was just going to be a really gross looking human.
- 49:37So he was already primed in like kind of a base, like kind of a
- 49:41medium brown. And then when I got Frankenstein
- 49:45in hand, I had bought a, a sock good jacket for my Frankenstein
- 49:52monster, her preacher. And I had him at the shop
- 49:56because I was going to weather the jacket and then take a
- 49:58picture of it. And I was like, oh man, I can
- 49:59try and match this paint with this head while it's there.
- 50:04And it worked out great. He looks fantastic on that body.
- 50:07Yeah, so it looks really. Well, was it tough to match the
- 50:10paint or how did he was? He was, really.
- 50:14Hard. So was that a mix of a number of
- 50:15paints? Kind of wasn't straight out of
- 50:18the bottle job. No, not at all.
- 50:20It's it's a lot more yellow than I thought.
- 50:24Like like a bright yellow than I thought.
- 50:27I was thinking more of an okra ochre or whatever.
- 50:32But yeah, it took a little bit of work, but it's a lot, a lot
- 50:36of wash helps kind of change the tone of the yellows.
- 50:40But I mean, that that Frankenstein's feature figure is
- 50:47such a great figure, like the paint and sculpt and everything.
- 50:53But when you're trying to match paint like that, it's just you
- 50:56have a a new appreciation for what goes into painting these
- 51:01figures, you know? Yeah, Yeah, it's, it can be, it
- 51:06can be tough for sure. Well, you did an amazing job
- 51:08with this. Thank you.
- 51:09I think we can all say another one of our scopes.
- 51:14I was so excited when you sent me this over while ago and
- 51:18obviously you've posted it since.
- 51:21This is our Shaniqui Leprechaun head.
- 51:25So awesome. Just an awesome job, David.
- 51:29Can't say much other than that. What I did with the I love this
- 51:34scope also, but with the cards in the hat.
- 51:39I gave them the ampophilias, brown and yellow stripes and I
- 51:44was. Too dumb to get that until you
- 51:45told me, but yeah. And.
- 51:48Then the other part is the the six eyes that he has, like the
- 51:51blue eyes. Yeah, I didn't spot that.
- 51:54That's amazing. So, yeah, so that's just
- 51:58instantly makes this eclectors item.
- 52:00So are you going to keep it or are you going to sell it at your
- 52:02table? Legions con or?
- 52:04You know I. I mean, obviously you can get
- 52:07another one off us to paint for yourself if you want.
- 52:09So you know. There's something, there's
- 52:11something special about offering stuff for people that all
- 52:16appreciate it. And I don't tend to keep a lot
- 52:18of my customs on display because I do solid heads and I do make
- 52:25new figures and I I'm such a stickler for factions and races
- 52:30and all that stuff like being together.
- 52:33So it's like when I have like a one off character, I don't tend
- 52:37to keep it, you know, keep the head.
- 52:39And then again, this is kind of a cool way to offer a sculpt
- 52:44that a few people are offering with my own, you know, like
- 52:50that's the David Williams 1, you know.
- 52:52Gotcha. Yeah, yeah.
- 52:54So so yeah, I'll have this for sale.
- 52:57We've we've one more thing to show here from you.
- 53:00And so I'm going to try and see if this works.
- 53:02So this is your painted heads. So you sent me a little video,
- 53:06so I'm going to see if I can get that working.
- 53:09There we go. So look at that.
- 53:11Cowboy head in there. So this is what you're going to
- 53:14see at David's table. Some of it anyway.
- 53:20So look at that beautifully painted heads rack.
- 53:24They're probably going to be painted in the meantime.
- 53:27Yeah. The primed ones, yeah.
- 53:31Oh, I love. Sorry, no, just kind of go back
- 53:33a little bit. This guy here with the one eye?
- 53:36I've never seen that before. When LaGuardia gave that to me
- 53:42last legions time, he was like, look at this weird thing, you're
- 53:45going to like this, and now you just gave it to me, all right.
- 53:49And so I was like, it's, it's like a naked cat.
- 53:52It's Yeah, it does. Look like one of those.
- 53:54Yeah, but and the eye thing as well, yeah.
- 53:58And so did he tell you what the origin of that was or?
- 54:01No, not at all. It's just it's a bizarre sculpt
- 54:05because it's got a metal face mask on, it's missing one eye,
- 54:09it's got like earrings all over it.
- 54:11And it looks even weirder being painted in like a human flesh
- 54:15tone. You know, like, like those those
- 54:17cats are. Yeah, I love it.
- 54:19Yeah, it's perfect. But there we see the rest of
- 54:23them. Look at that great selection
- 54:26there we get a good look at that cosmic or that Frankenstein.
- 54:30So there we go. So let's just pause that there.
- 54:34So I see you, David. So thanks for sending that stuff
- 54:39over and excited to put my eyes on it in person as well.
- 54:44No matter what, photos never do it justice.
- 54:50Right. Seeing all that stuff in person
- 54:51is such a treat and it's like you could spend.
- 54:54Totally. More plus you know just one
- 54:58person's table just staring at all, but don't little details in
- 55:03each. And.
- 55:06That's something special going allegiance.
- 55:09And that's the thing you don't like for Allegiance Con.
- 55:13Obviously you got to pay to get their hotel, all that kind of
- 55:15stuff. Of course it's nice to pick up
- 55:17all the stuff. You don't need to spend another
- 55:20cent to have a great time. You don't need to buy anything.
- 55:24You can look at all this stuff and get just as much pleasure as
- 55:27the person that's going to bring it home and display it on their
- 55:30shelf. Obviously if you if you can get
- 55:33stuff, that's even more awesome, but you can definitely have a
- 55:37great time. John, all this kind of stuff,
- 55:41yeah. Never ever speak to my wife with
- 55:44that sort of advice. No, he doesn't find anything at
- 55:47all. He just has a great time.
- 55:48If he's just there, No, no, no, no, no.
- 55:51But your gig is that you're supposed to bring stuff to sell.
- 55:54You sell that. And with the proceeds of that,
- 55:56you you buy stuff and you're kind of 0 at the end of the day.
- 56:00And, you know, no harm, no foul. No.
- 56:03Yeah, let's go with that. Right.
- 56:07Well, to to wrap us up here, let's have a look through some
- 56:11of your stuff, Thomas, because you have some awesome photos on
- 56:14your Instagram. I mean, look at that.
- 56:18So you do the myth and fantasy toy pick collaboration quite
- 56:22regularly. Yeah, we try to do that weekly.
- 56:26So that's, that's been a blast. My my buddy Pablo Yale
- 56:30photography, he does all the plundering shops for their
- 56:35packaging and everything. He invited me into this pro lab
- 56:38a couple couple months back and it's been just even more
- 56:43inspiring getting a whole community and we all kind of
- 56:48motivate each other to, you know, take pictures regularly
- 56:51and get, get things posted. A lot of times I'll, I'll take
- 56:56pictures and I just there's hundreds of pictures on my
- 56:59phone. I never get a chance to post
- 57:00them. But having this collab with the
- 57:03group is kind of incentive to make sure I get something up
- 57:06there weekly. So even right now, being on
- 57:09vacation, I shot a couple pictures ahead of time so that I
- 57:12can keep posting on the collab with everybody.
- 57:15And and what's your setup? Do you use your phone?
- 57:17Do you have a kind of camera setup?
- 57:19Do you have lighting all? That yeah, I've got, I've got a
- 57:22camera, a variety of lights. I've thinking a lot of tips from
- 57:27Trevor as far as like the lighting goes and I watch a lot
- 57:30of. These tips which is amazing, you
- 57:32know right I think you have to be comfortable with your in your
- 57:36own skin and with your own kind of work to be able to to be to
- 57:39be like that and. That's, well, the secret sauce.
- 57:41Yeah. Yeah, but it's awesome.
- 57:44I always say that it it makes better if there's more of this
- 57:47stuff out there, whether it be customs like the likes that
- 57:50David is doing or whatever, or photography.
- 57:53The more cool stuff is, the better.
- 57:57Yeah, and I mean the quality of figures that 4 Horsemen puts out
- 58:01with the details is yeah, I mean it makes it even funner to
- 58:04photograph, you know if. You if you kind of, you know, if
- 58:08you ignore just a tiny bit of articulation you can see there
- 58:11that looks pretty like a movie shot, you know, the guy there,
- 58:15what figure is that? Kind of the blurred 1.
- 58:18The kind of human figure so. That's a couple of different
- 58:23Mescos mashed together. It's Bartholomew Vex, the the
- 58:28like demon goat with the Batman Gotham by gaslight Bruce Wayne
- 58:35head. So I took the Bruce Wayne head,
- 58:38put it on that Bartholomew Vex body, but the the hand I think
- 58:42is a Constantine hand from Mescos as well.
- 58:46So just a couple different Mescos piece together to give
- 58:50the illusion of, you know, Victorian type of scientist.
- 58:53Yeah, you've that's cool, man. You've had fun with the with old
- 58:57Frankie. Yeah, I think last year I had a
- 59:01blast with with Jacob Marley. And then when this one came out,
- 59:06it's like as soon as I got him and I was like, wow, I need to
- 59:10photograph. This and.
- 59:12The detail in there is just fantastic.
- 59:13And then I like to be able to showcase a lot of the customs
- 59:16too. Like those are some Mark Calvo
- 59:19dwarfs that I picked up legions on two years ago.
- 59:23Yeah, that's that's one of the first people that I really got
- 59:28to interact with with in the community was with Mark.
- 59:31And it was so cool just meeting somebody that was from Spain
- 59:35that flew all the way out to New Jersey to showcase their stuff.
- 59:38You know, I really, really honed in on the fact that this is such
- 59:42a a wide community, but so tight knit at the same time, you know,
- 59:47then some of those harbor custom porches are great to use in the
- 59:51shots. Like can't get enough of those.
- 59:54Excited to pick up some some variety from him this year.
- 59:58Too. I need to get some more stuff
- 1:00:00with Brian, definitely. Kind of have been too late to
- 1:00:04him. He's tabled the last two years
- 1:00:05to get the stuff. So just shows one of my favorite
- 1:00:09Legions figures here, Taranag. I mean, it's amazing.
- 1:00:13He's a beauty. Yeah, yeah, actually we had Mark
- 1:00:16Calvo on, so he's going to be on a couple of episodes before this
- 1:00:20one and yeah, he's going to be back this year in Legions Con so
- 1:00:23and he has some great stuff so. Yeah, some really good stuff
- 1:00:27come in with him. You're yeah, you're also Mexico
- 1:00:32fan as well. I love the Mexico Batman.
- 1:00:35Yeah, big Mexico guy. I think that was, that was kind
- 1:00:40of my main, my main line up until you know, 4 horsemen came
- 1:00:44and kicked everything else off the shelf and take the space.
- 1:00:49At least they're not more expensive than Mezco, you know?
- 1:00:51If they make Mezco, you know they they Mezco makes 4 horsemen
- 1:00:55stuff look cheap. You know, In terms of price, not
- 1:00:58in terms of looks. Of course you know.
- 1:01:01Totally. And now that we're getting all
- 1:01:03the soft goods and everything, it's, it's amazing seeing that
- 1:01:06price point that they still offer us, you know, with all the
- 1:01:09soft goods from CJ and Caitlin, it's.
- 1:01:13Yeah, really cool. The wizard, the lighting you can
- 1:01:16do with the wizard figures. Amazing, Yeah.
- 1:01:21Yeah, yeah. And the way that that paint just
- 1:01:23pops on that figure, you know, I didn't do any post editing on
- 1:01:26that. It was just.
- 1:01:27You can put a black light on that paint, can't you?
- 1:01:30And it kind of brightens up or whatever.
- 1:01:33Or just a regular light. I think maybe cool.
- 1:01:37Oh, there he is, dirty old snag. They can stuff no good.
- 1:01:44Love Snag. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:47I'd love to see another figure using the head sculpt or similar
- 1:01:50that even that's kind of happened, yeah.
- 1:01:53Yeah. That that one right there is
- 1:01:56from Eugene, the valley at night.
- 1:01:58This one. Oh, this head sculpt.
- 1:02:00Oh wow, Yeah. Little head sculpt that eh
- 1:02:03Eugene gifted me last year. Yeah, at Legion Con, such a nice
- 1:02:08guy. Like I got I couldn't figure out
- 1:02:10how to shoot that, that head sculpt.
- 1:02:12And I was like, you know what, I'm going to put it on the
- 1:02:14valley at night. And then just that just came to
- 1:02:18me randomly. I was like, you know, I'm a big
- 1:02:20cat, cat guy as well. Well, you know, we're not far
- 1:02:24apart, you know, just spin down the road like a four for you
- 1:02:26here to play with. Oh, nice.
- 1:02:29Yeah, I joked with my wife. I said maybe we should fly into
- 1:02:31Luxembourg instead of Paris. Totally.
- 1:02:34Yeah, you know. Back to Paris.
- 1:02:36After two days, no problem. You know, could.
- 1:02:40Have done the podcast from your room.
- 1:02:42Oh, that would be awesome. I even have two mics here.
- 1:02:44Look, you know, so because I'm an idiot, Gear acquisition
- 1:02:48syndrome, and oh wow, look at this guy.
- 1:02:53This is all Eric Miller, of course.
- 1:02:57That was one of my. You got 4 awesome heads from
- 1:03:00Eric at Ishkhan, is that right? Yep, that was that was kind of
- 1:03:06my main goal in Ishkhan. And I know they've joked about
- 1:03:09it on their podcast is I said I was going to buy some Heely's so
- 1:03:13that I could, you know, wheel myself to his table and be the
- 1:03:16first one there. And I did do a little hurried
- 1:03:22walk there to make sure I could pick up that Medusa.
- 1:03:27Actually a really cool story is so Eric had I think 4 Medusa's
- 1:03:32that he brought and Big Dubs happen to grab that one, which
- 1:03:36was the one that I wanted. And I get to the table and I'm
- 1:03:40like, oh, the one I wanted is gone.
- 1:03:43There's three left. And Eric's like yeah, Big Dub
- 1:03:46grabbed it and I turned around and Big Dub was right there and
- 1:03:49he's like, I buy a different Medusa head and I'll trade you
- 1:03:52and I'll give you the one you wanted.
- 1:03:54He knows. Super cool.
- 1:03:56Super cool movie. Yeah, that is so cool.
- 1:04:00So cool. Right.
- 1:04:01Let's look at one or two more. I mean, cosmic mouth.
- 1:04:03Come on. Yeah, I mean, I think Thomas
- 1:04:06takes some awesome photos. It's fantastic.
- 1:04:11Yeah, I. Really want to get into shooting
- 1:04:13more cosmic. Oh, you should.
- 1:04:15You should, Yeah, you can do it. The way you do the lighting and
- 1:04:18everything is just awesome. I mean, look at this type of a
- 1:04:22shot here. I think it's that's movie stuff
- 1:04:24like, you know. Yeah, yeah, I think Cosmics, it
- 1:04:28sounds daft to say this, but I think it's it's a little
- 1:04:31underrated at the moment and yet the stuff we're getting is is
- 1:04:35incredible. But can't wait to see where it
- 1:04:40goes either though. You know, if we're starting off
- 1:04:43at this level, Sky's the limit thing, it's going to be
- 1:04:48fantastic. Totally.
- 1:04:50Yeah. But number one, you need to get
- 1:04:51some prints out there. Number two, you're the type of
- 1:04:55guy I'm really excited when you buy one of my heads or whatever
- 1:04:59legions come because I'm like, oh man, in a few months time I
- 1:05:02might get a you've been tagged in a photo on Instagram or
- 1:05:05something. Yes.
- 1:05:08Don't you like that, David? Oh, love it.
- 1:05:10Yeah, it's just the. Best.
- 1:05:12It's so cool. Like it's just, it's so special
- 1:05:16that somebody has my things and then took the time to tag me in
- 1:05:21it. Or, let alone, you know, play
- 1:05:24with. And in the madness of legions,
- 1:05:26Khan, you don't always, you know, it's, it's very hard to
- 1:05:29track who might buy, you know, ahead of you or if, you know, if
- 1:05:33you're doing a deal on three or four heads and maybe they grab
- 1:05:36another one. You're you're, you're not really
- 1:05:38sure. I know they got that night head,
- 1:05:40but, you know, I can't remember what the other ones were.
- 1:05:42So you really don't know. And you're like, oh, I remember
- 1:05:44painting that and now I know who has it.
- 1:05:46It's amazing. And then you have that picture.
- 1:05:49So it's kind of, it's a thing now, you know.
- 1:05:51Yeah. I love that.
- 1:05:56Richest trend of plugins table. No, I was just going to say it
- 1:06:01was a word of advice. If you if you buy lots of stuff
- 1:06:06at Legions Con for make a note, make a note of what you buy on a
- 1:06:10spreadsheet. Spreadsheets are the perfect way
- 1:06:12of making a note of that. So you can then when you when
- 1:06:14you post the picture, you've got them listed.
- 1:06:16I was just all I was going to say it was a public service. 3
- 1:06:19or 4 beers deep on, you know, Saturday evening of Legions
- 1:06:22Connor going, oh, I've never get out my laptop and just update my
- 1:06:25spreadsheet. Yes, it's a spreadsheet.
- 1:06:29Of course it should be because after another Tier 4 beers,
- 1:06:32they're going to go back to the room, wake up the next morning
- 1:06:34and go, wow, look at all this cool stuff I bought.
- 1:06:36I can't remember who I got that off.
- 1:06:42Yeah, that dwarf head that I took a picture of that I got
- 1:06:45from you last year, John, is one of my favorite ones I've taken
- 1:06:48since that. Awesome.
- 1:06:49Last year. I need to see.
- 1:06:51Can I find that here quickly? While we're talking, you keep
- 1:06:55talking boys, you know? After the I'm.
- 1:06:58Super excited to bring the the prints.
- 1:07:01I know I'm going to bring prints for sure.
- 1:07:02It's just a matter of deciding, you know, which ones.
- 1:07:05And it's hard to be biased with your work when you're taking
- 1:07:09pictures and you know, like David was talking about earlier
- 1:07:12being, you know, like imposter syndrome.
- 1:07:16I don't think any of my pictures are good.
- 1:07:18I don't think anybody's going to like my work or pair for a
- 1:07:21print, you know, so it's like, oh man, like why am I doing
- 1:07:26this? Is anybody even going to want
- 1:07:27one of these? And then like, you got to just
- 1:07:30kind of get over that hump and say, you know what, nobody likes
- 1:07:33them. Oh well, at least I brought
- 1:07:35them. And I have some some pretty cool
- 1:07:38stickers too, that a good friend of mine is working on designing.
- 1:07:43You guys might know it's from Arizona.
- 1:07:46He just weighed, so I think we know.
- 1:07:48Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's he.
- 1:07:52We've just got them on. Yeah, we just phoned them off
- 1:07:54and we just got them on. Hi, David Williams.
- 1:07:56How are you? Welcome to the show.
- 1:07:59I believe you designed stickers the odd time.
- 1:08:03Here and there. Here we go.
- 1:08:05This is the one. Isn't it cool?
- 1:08:06Oh. That's.
- 1:08:09Awesome. I remember this with this head.
- 1:08:12I remember it's sitting kind of you've had this David.
- 1:08:15I'm sure it's was primed on on my heads rack for ages and I was
- 1:08:19like, I like that heads cup so much.
- 1:08:22I really don't know what to choose, how to do it because
- 1:08:29it's just hard, you know, it's like that.
- 1:08:30I could do it like a human. I could do it like, you know,
- 1:08:34different Caucasian skin or, you know, a black skin or like
- 1:08:40Hispanic skin, I don't know. But you know, what colour to do
- 1:08:44the beard, what to do with the bear kind of hat or was it not
- 1:08:47bore hat? Sorry.
- 1:08:49And yeah, eventually I just said, you know what, I'm going
- 1:08:51to try and do one of these kind of great dwarfs.
- 1:08:54And yeah, I think it worked out and so did Thomas and we ended
- 1:09:00up with awesome picture and he used one of my favorite figures
- 1:09:05as a bass heard Bardrick or is that Crotos?
- 1:09:09That's. That's Crotos.
- 1:09:11That's Crotos also. Awesome figure.
- 1:09:14Yeah, very cool. Yeah, it's awesome.
- 1:09:18See, that's, yeah, that's just too cool.
- 1:09:20You know, there's no money that can pay for for that kind of
- 1:09:25cool feeling, you know, Very good.
- 1:09:27Well, it's been great to have you on, guys.
- 1:09:31Yes, yeah, man. Absolutely.
- 1:09:34Yeah. I love hanging out with you
- 1:09:35guys, yeah. Absolutely, yeah, we could do
- 1:09:38this all night, but we we do have to kind of keep it in
- 1:09:42podcast episode format so that we can actually get it out there
- 1:09:46so. We can do it in four weeks time,
- 1:09:48face to face. Oh yeah, Well, that's true.
- 1:09:50Yeah, yeah. Try and bring a little bit of
- 1:09:53recording gear so we can have a few chats if we can.
- 1:09:56I always say this, but this year I'm going to actually try and do
- 1:09:58it. So and do a little I'm going to
- 1:10:02try and end up with an episode or two where we can give a
- 1:10:05feeling of what it was like to be at Legion's gone while not
- 1:10:08exactly going to be feeling. So that's the plan.
- 1:10:12Let's see. It is all going to fall apart
- 1:10:14after three beers. But you're hey, so Thomas, enjoy
- 1:10:23the motherland, enjoy your grandparents and you get all
- 1:10:27this stuff. I just love the even I can see
- 1:10:30that you're in an old French house from the background behind
- 1:10:33that, you know? It's all falling apart.
- 1:10:36Yeah, couple of glasses of wine and you'll be as good as new.
- 1:10:42The jet lag will be gone. Right, Yeah, Houses, you know,
- 1:10:46100 something years old and wonder that it's still standing
- 1:10:50up. It's older than the state of
- 1:10:51Arizona. Holy shit.
- 1:10:57Yeah. And enjoy Ireland.
- 1:10:59I can't wait to chat to you about what you thought of it,
- 1:11:02you know, and you could be honest.
- 1:11:03With me, you know I. I moved away, so, you know, if
- 1:11:07it's bad, you can tell me. I can, I can agree.
- 1:11:11No, for me, Ireland is a wonderful place to visit.
- 1:11:14I just wouldn't live there anymore because it's so
- 1:11:18expensive to live there and all that kind of stuff, you know?
- 1:11:22But that's just that's kind of everywhere though,
- 1:11:23unfortunately. David, it's great to have you on
- 1:11:27again. You know, I just wish you lived
- 1:11:31in an even better time zone for us.
- 1:11:33But it is what it is, yeah. Sorry about that.
- 1:11:38But at the same time, I'm very happy for you because Arizona is
- 1:11:41a lovely spot. So, you know, and you get to
- 1:11:44draw your T-shirts in 30 minutes or less.
- 1:11:48Yeah, Thanks for thanks for staying up with me.
- 1:11:50Oh, absolutely. Oh, there's no problem.
- 1:11:52What do we know? 1030 Luxembourg time.
- 1:11:54That's that's that's fine. No problem.
- 1:11:58I'm just hoping the kids are going to bed now when I go back
- 1:12:00upstairs. So they were watching.
- 1:12:04That's why he likes the time difference.
- 1:12:06They've been watching the first 3, Not today, but like over the
- 1:12:10last week or two. They've been watching the first
- 1:12:11three Harry Potter movies with my wife and she's, I mean, I
- 1:12:15like them, but she's really big into them and they're old enough
- 1:12:18to watch the first 3 now for sure.
- 1:12:21So they're on the third one tonight.
- 1:12:23So they had, they had chips and ice cream and stuff.
- 1:12:29So they're happy. But school tomorrow, you know,
- 1:12:32so got to get going. All right, guys.
- 1:12:38It's been great. Thanks for taking the time and
- 1:12:42looking forward. To thank you so much.
- 1:12:43Gentlemen, yeah, cheers. Can't wait to see how old
- 1:12:46legions can. Absolutely.
- 1:12:55All right. We have a good friend of the
- 1:12:57podcast, a long time supporter of ours, and of course a
- 1:13:01fantastic customizer and Allegiance con exhibitor in his
- 1:13:06own right. It's a Eugene eunuch.
- 1:13:08Dr. Grim Customs. How are you, Eugene?
- 1:13:10I'm good. Thank you for having me on
- 1:13:12again, gentlemen. No problem at all.
- 1:13:13It's always a pleasure. We chat quite regularly, the two
- 1:13:17of us with our little day-to-day customizing experiences and good
- 1:13:25things and bad things. You know, it goes around, comes
- 1:13:27around, bit of bit of support. I think you can always use that,
- 1:13:32you know. Absolutely.
- 1:13:34It's, it can be, it can be difficult to for people that are
- 1:13:38not in the same position as you to understand.
- 1:13:40So when you know someone that's kind of probably fiddling around
- 1:13:43and in the same stuff as you're doing at the time, be at six or
- 1:13:48seven hours different time zone, you know it still works.
- 1:13:53It's fine, one of my best mate is in Berlin so I'm used to it.
- 1:13:56I just send you a message. There you go.
- 1:13:58We talk when. We do it.
- 1:13:59There's a lot of, there's a lot of bits and bytes going across
- 1:14:02the Atlantic from from your perspective then, yeah.
- 1:14:06I mean, I always feel bad when, you know, obviously you're, it's
- 1:14:11still early evening for you and I'm gone to bed.
- 1:14:13And then sometimes I'll get a message from you or I'll have
- 1:14:16missed a message before I went to bed.
- 1:14:17And I'm like, OK, I hope he got on OK with that, whatever he was
- 1:14:20doing. I never take it.
- 1:14:24First time I was like. People with kids.
- 1:14:26Oh yeah, I never get to see. Schedules.
- 1:14:28I get it exactly. Yeah, sure do.
- 1:14:31And how are you, how are you feeling in the in the run up to
- 1:14:35allegiance con? You know, last year I felt about
- 1:14:41the last month and especially the last two weeks, there was a
- 1:14:43lot of internal pressure to get more done.
- 1:14:46And I'm kind of at that same spot.
- 1:14:48It's been a very busy year, one of the busiest years I've had.
- 1:14:52So I haven't gotten nearly as much done as I wanted to, but
- 1:14:55I'm kind of the threshold now where I feel comfortable with
- 1:14:59what I've got. But there's still a few things I
- 1:15:01want to finish up because I know that that's what some people
- 1:15:05have reached out to me about. Someone make sure that, you
- 1:15:07know, I have enough Shields for people because they had had
- 1:15:10several people reach out about that and and then just a couple
- 1:15:14other odds and ends to tie up. But I feel much better today
- 1:15:19than I did yesterday. So there's not what progress is
- 1:15:22progress. Yeah.
- 1:15:23I mean, I guess Mallet sounds like good problems.
- 1:15:25You know, it's, it's people wanting stuff from Eugene.
- 1:15:28So it's not, it's not like he's worried about being ignored, you
- 1:15:32know? Very definitely good problems
- 1:15:34for sure. Yeah.
- 1:15:36I mean, Eugene was you were, I think you're the same table this
- 1:15:40year. You're table 32.
- 1:15:42And I think that was kind of directly kind of behind and
- 1:15:45across the aisle from us. We were 52 last year and you're
- 1:15:49right behind Noah so and I guess you're, you were right behind
- 1:15:53him last year as well. And yeah, we, we took a few
- 1:15:56trips across to, to that table. It was pretty impressive mouth.
- 1:16:00Yes, very very good stuff. Just to share, good it is.
- 1:16:04I ended up buying two of the same head just because of how
- 1:16:06well they were. Painted yes.
- 1:16:09Every time I put one of those out and about, Mao came right
- 1:16:11back over. I was like 10 more than.
- 1:16:13Oh, I listened to both that when I came over the last.
- 1:16:15I thought I did, still haven't decided what to do with them,
- 1:16:18but they were just so nicely painted that you'll.
- 1:16:24Always have the, you know, that's the main.
- 1:16:25Yeah, that's it. When she got there.
- 1:16:28And your buddy Nick is going to help you again this year,
- 1:16:30Eugene, is that right? Yep, that's correct.
- 1:16:32He's going to be my booth eye candy again this year.
- 1:16:35And you know, so if he need to negotiate prices, he's the one
- 1:16:39you talked to so. All right, Yeah.
- 1:16:42He's a harder negotiator than I am.
- 1:16:44OK, so he he'll he'll go down lower or?
- 1:16:50I I don't know, probably depending on I'm at the table or
- 1:16:52not. OK.
- 1:16:53Or he'll at. Least engage?
- 1:16:55He'll engage in the banter a bit more.
- 1:16:57Is that what you're saying? Yeah, no, he's a good, he's a
- 1:17:00good guy and I really appreciate him being there.
- 1:17:02Help. And is he local to you or did
- 1:17:04you meet him through the? Actually, him and I have been
- 1:17:09friends for well over a decade. We actually met through the
- 1:17:13Transformers community. We had met on a message board
- 1:17:17there and then we had met up at a Transformers convention back
- 1:17:20in 2012 or 2014. And he's the one who actually
- 1:17:26got me into mythics because he, you know, he's a big Hellboy fan
- 1:17:30and he's like, hey, you should probably look at these Templars
- 1:17:32or some of these creatures because that seems to be
- 1:17:34aesthetic and, you know, been hooked ever since.
- 1:17:39But he's the he's. The dealer.
- 1:17:43He he is. He's he's the one.
- 1:17:45I'll get you hooked. But he's he's actually up by
- 1:17:48Noah. He lives in Minnesota.
- 1:17:49By Noah so. Right.
- 1:17:52OK. So a lot of cool guys there.
- 1:17:54And you're over in Nebraska, which is a bit further to the
- 1:17:57West. Basically, there's a longer
- 1:18:00drive. Again, that's what we're talking
- 1:18:01about, yeah. If I were to drive again, it
- 1:18:06would be about 20 to 21 hours, so it's pretty long you.
- 1:18:11Drove last year though, did you? I did.
- 1:18:13I'm not driving this year. I'm flying in this year.
- 1:18:15So. Yeah, that's why you looked.
- 1:18:17That's why you looked so exhausted.
- 1:18:21That was your first time last year, wasn't it, as an
- 1:18:23exhibitor? It was and the weekend before I
- 1:18:26had exhibited, yeah on the weekend before I had exhibited
- 1:18:29at a local toy show. So I had back-to-back shows,
- 1:18:33weekends. So it was, there was no break in
- 1:18:35between. It was very hectic. 2 weeks
- 1:18:37stretch. Yeah, but you had a little, you
- 1:18:41had a little dry run, I guess at least to test the setup.
- 1:18:45And you know, those kind of small little details that tend
- 1:18:48to crop up on you when you get the table and you get you get
- 1:18:52your stuff out of the boxes and you're like, oh, shoot, I have
- 1:18:55to make a display here. Absolutely.
- 1:18:58That's something that the first time you do it, you don't really
- 1:19:01think of. You think, oh, it's going to
- 1:19:02look great, you know, You don't have all the things you have at
- 1:19:06home, you know? No, no you don't.
- 1:19:09Tablecloths, plastic bags, you know, there's all sorts of
- 1:19:12little odds and stuff you just don't think about.
- 1:19:15Yeah, I mean, Len LaGuardia was a was a definitely a dream last
- 1:19:20year to sort out a few. She sorted us out for the
- 1:19:23tablecloth and he did the we, we got him to do a runner for us
- 1:19:28and a few other bits like that. But just, I guess these
- 1:19:31experienced guys knows what needed and then they offer in
- 1:19:34the community and you're like, OK, you know, I'm happy to give
- 1:19:37you $40 or whatever dollars. It was, was not much I can tell
- 1:19:41you for what it was. And the tablecloth was like a
- 1:19:43rental thing. So it was only a few dollars.
- 1:19:47So it was really cool. But yeah, so you're bringing all
- 1:19:53your stuff on the plane or how's that working?
- 1:19:56Yeah, I'm going to. I'll probably just have enough
- 1:19:59to fit one checked baggage if that I've.
- 1:20:06I sold through probably about 60 to 70% of my stock last year and
- 1:20:11I sold some more throughout the year.
- 1:20:14So everything that didn't sell last year will be there again,
- 1:20:17along with all the new stuff that I've done this year, so.
- 1:20:21I just want to try to make sure that I get through the older
- 1:20:25stuff as much as I can. And I last year, you know, with
- 1:20:29having my personal vehicle there, it was easier to take
- 1:20:32more than I needed and that was kind of kind of overwhelming at
- 1:20:36times. So I think just trying to make
- 1:20:38it a little tidier this year and a little more buttoned up will
- 1:20:43probably make it a little easier weekend and hopefully give me
- 1:20:46some time to actually go and see everybody else's stuff a bit
- 1:20:48more too. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:20:50I think, I think we're all in that boat.
- 1:20:52But some of that older stuff that might be starting to get
- 1:20:54rare, you know, and even even even though you might if the
- 1:20:57instinct might be to put that on discount, but you might be, you
- 1:21:00know, this scope is not available anymore and that's
- 1:21:02interesting. There's a lot of MAFC sculpts on
- 1:21:06that federal third. There you go.
- 1:21:10So depending on the appeal of them, they're definitely
- 1:21:13something there. But I mean, the main thing is to
- 1:21:16yeah, it's always, but I think it's about the turnover.
- 1:21:18You know, you got to get things moving, you know, because you
- 1:21:21could be saying, OK, I remember spending like 5 hours on this
- 1:21:25head and killed me and you want to get whatever dollars for it
- 1:21:29and someone's offering you a bit less than you're like, you know
- 1:21:32what, I'll probably just take it because I don't want to bring it
- 1:21:33home. You know, at that point, to a
- 1:21:36certain point, as long as it's a bit over what you paid for the
- 1:21:39basic sculpt, you're winning. And then it's a matter of OK,
- 1:21:43OK, I didn't get a very good early rate there, but at the
- 1:21:45same time, I probably was watching the movie or listening
- 1:21:48to a show podcast or something. So it was my hobby time.
- 1:21:53It was you were still enjoying yourself.
- 1:21:54It's not like the, I mean, OK, a lot of people do enjoy their
- 1:21:57jobs, but a lot of people just grind the 8 hours or whatever a
- 1:22:00day at work and they're happy that they get paid for it and
- 1:22:04that's about it. And so you're lucky if you do
- 1:22:06have the joy in it. But I think us customizers and
- 1:22:10stuff that do it as a hobby and I think make a bit of money to
- 1:22:14kind of do it again is kind of what the way I look at it, you
- 1:22:18know, that's it's fine. We can't get paid our hourly
- 1:22:20rate because it just wouldn't, it wouldn't work with it.
- 1:22:25Definitely not so much. We wouldn't, definitely wouldn't
- 1:22:27meet the minimum wage rules or whatever.
- 1:22:30Assume you have minimum wage rules over there, do you?
- 1:22:33Yeah. We do so.
- 1:22:36Yeah. So I think for, you know, if you
- 1:22:38were to buy a Medusa head sculpt off somebody or something, you
- 1:22:41know, you, there's no, there's no hourly rate that's going to
- 1:22:44be able to get you to afford that.
- 1:22:46No, no, especially not some of the paint job.
- 1:22:48Some of those guys put on it and the guys and gals put on it.
- 1:22:52I've not tackled those yet. Someday I will, but just haven't
- 1:22:57gotten around to it. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:22:59That's that's for when you're, when you're under no pressure
- 1:23:03and you're just doing it for your own pleasure.
- 1:23:05Maybe you know, a nice sunny day in the summer when you've had a
- 1:23:09when you you know, when you fridge full of beer and you can
- 1:23:12start off, you know, with a steady hand.
- 1:23:15By the end of it, you're like crying.
- 1:23:17You can't do this. So just like every other day.
- 1:23:21Got it. Yeah.
- 1:23:24Sounds good, but yeah, do you do you still find the, the whole
- 1:23:27the customizing kind of very like a big stress reliever and
- 1:23:31the kind of, you know, a good way to kind of clear the head
- 1:23:33and. Yeah, at the end of the day,
- 1:23:37it's what I enjoy with it the most.
- 1:23:42Is. Trying out the new things
- 1:23:44because I tend to go through spurts and hyper fixations where
- 1:23:50I want to learn a technique or I want to learn a painting style.
- 1:23:53And then I will just hammer that for, you know, maybe a couple
- 1:23:56days, maybe a couple weeks, depending on how much free time
- 1:23:58I have until I feel confident in that.
- 1:24:02And then I'll finish that up and then I'll usually take a break
- 1:24:05and then on to the next thing that kind of piques my interest.
- 1:24:08So like this year I made a goal to try to get better human skin
- 1:24:13tone because I I was not very confident in my skin tones.
- 1:24:16So that was a big focus on me for a few months this year.
- 1:24:21Cool. We're looking forward.
- 1:24:22We have a couple of pictures for later and where we go through
- 1:24:25some of the stuff you sent over. But I think as with all of these
- 1:24:30things, seeing them in person is the real the real key.
- 1:24:33You know, the photos are fine for giving you an idea, but in
- 1:24:38person really does. I remember spoken about it
- 1:24:42before when I first went. Allegiance gone.
- 1:24:44I saw the in person, the head scopes.
- 1:24:46I was like, OK, I need to work harder, you know, OK, I know
- 1:24:51that I can see it's possible here.
- 1:24:54There's only starting off anyway or you know, kind of a year into
- 1:24:57it, but I was like, OK, this is a this is possible to achieve.
- 1:25:02These are the guys are doing this so I know what I need to
- 1:25:04look like, look at in person. And I'm not just looking at
- 1:25:07pictures because pictures can also, you know, some people can
- 1:25:11maybe take very flattering pictures sometimes as well.
- 1:25:14That can also work in the reverse.
- 1:25:16I don't know how to do that myself but.
- 1:25:19If you figure that out, if you figure that out, let me know
- 1:25:21because I look at mine. Geez, I hope people see this in
- 1:25:24person because this picture is not it's.
- 1:25:26Just getting into a very dark room, you know, and just
- 1:25:29switching off the light and taking a picture.
- 1:25:30Yeah, then then it looks. Oh, I look my best, yeah.
- 1:25:37Turn the lights off. Oh yeah, and who?
- 1:25:44So besides from obviously your table, who else do you always
- 1:25:48look forward to or anyone new this year that you're looking
- 1:25:51forward to seeing or people customs, you know?
- 1:25:56People I mean there's just there's so many I don't want to
- 1:25:59leave anybody out I mean you 3 odd well you 2 minus rich.
- 1:26:03I mean, whatever Bridge keeps talking me so you know he's.
- 1:26:06Yeah. Yeah, yeah, he's.
- 1:26:07Done that a few times on this series.
- 1:26:09You know, he's he's ducking people.
- 1:26:12You know, I think Anthony was possibly the only one he
- 1:26:14purposely ducked. We can say, you know, he did
- 1:26:17that, but let's just let's just say that.
- 1:26:22You know I'm. Ducking you?
- 1:26:25I'm looking forward to seeing you 3 again.
- 1:26:28Noah, Dennis, Eric, a lot of people, you know, Eric, LeBron,
- 1:26:36I, Bryan Berg. I feel bad because I'm going to
- 1:26:39leave somebody out. You know, Len, Len's one of the
- 1:26:41nicest people imaginable. There's Nate Armstrong, Eric
- 1:26:46Bachman. My good buddy Daniel Douglas
- 1:26:49will be there this year for the first time, so I'm really
- 1:26:51looking forward to seeing him. So it's there's a lot of people.
- 1:26:55Is he attending or is he anything with an exhibitor as
- 1:26:58well? No, just attending SO.
- 1:27:01OK. There's there's so many people
- 1:27:04that I want to see, you know, art, arts.
- 1:27:05I I feel bad because I know I'm going to leave people out and I
- 1:27:08don't want to do that because there's so many people are
- 1:27:10genuinely we can. Take for granted anyone you
- 1:27:13don't mention is still included. You know you know it's just what
- 1:27:17comes to the top of the head. But so all you guys up around
- 1:27:22that area actually seem to be very chill.
- 1:27:24I mean, obviously Noah, we know Noah is not.
- 1:27:27I mean, he's Minnesota, so not that far from you.
- 1:27:30He's very chill as well. So is that a thing up there?
- 1:27:33Is it just that you feel kind of like you're in the middle of
- 1:27:36everything? So, you know, just let the other
- 1:27:38sides kind of battle it out and we just chill in the middle
- 1:27:40here. I don't know.
- 1:27:44For me, it's, you know, it's, it's just fun time, you know,
- 1:27:47it's. Yeah.
- 1:27:48It's not like I'm going there to, you know, make my rent or,
- 1:27:52or, you know, make my mortgage or anything like that.
- 1:27:54So, you know, it's for me, it's a time to go and find some
- 1:27:59inspiration and see some new ideas and talk to, you know, a
- 1:28:04lot of people with shared interests and, you know, have
- 1:28:07some fun. And, you know, it's you see Noah
- 1:28:10walking around with kick signs on his back.
- 1:28:12That was Dennis. It was not me.
- 1:28:13So, yeah, but it's, I just think for the most part, you know,
- 1:28:20there's a very good group of people to just enjoy the
- 1:28:27process, the arts and the community.
- 1:28:30And every community is kind of got that tipping point where
- 1:28:34maybe it gets a bit more competitive, for lack of a
- 1:28:38better term, or a bit more critical.
- 1:28:43And it doesn't seem like it's hit that yet.
- 1:28:44And that's one of the things that I really appreciate about
- 1:28:47the community that, you know, Walter and the admins and
- 1:28:49everybody have cultivated there and that the horsemen and Jeremy
- 1:28:53and Viteri have cultivated with their show is it's, it's a very
- 1:28:56supportive area. And they don't, you know, if
- 1:29:00there is nonsense, Doesn't seem to be much of it.
- 1:29:04It's a little bit it's it's kind of self regulating a bit, you
- 1:29:07know, without being like, you know, there's nobody coming over
- 1:29:09kind of, you know, being overbearing and kind of saying,
- 1:29:12you know, you need to stop guys. But it's kind of more of AI
- 1:29:15think people just know the what to do.
- 1:29:17And there might be the odd side I thrown at somebody that's
- 1:29:21starting to get out of line. And then it's, you know, nothing
- 1:29:23really happens or I don't know, I don't see anyone making a big
- 1:29:26intervention saying, you know, we need to stop the BS over
- 1:29:29here, guys. You know, it just seems to just
- 1:29:32seems to work. But I do think a lot of it is
- 1:29:35also the shared interest and the fact that maybe a lot of us
- 1:29:40don't get to in our day-to-day lives kind of chat to people
- 1:29:44about this hobby. And with the kind of enthusiasm
- 1:29:47and the, you know, the just the interest and the no, no
- 1:29:51explanations required. It's just, you know, we can skip
- 1:29:54to just, you know, what we think.
- 1:29:56There's no, there's no context needed.
- 1:29:59It's just, yeah, we're all here and we all know why we're here.
- 1:30:01And we can just talk about what we like and what we don't like.
- 1:30:05And then you can go off and all the other directions, of course,
- 1:30:07talking about, you know, all sorts of other interests you
- 1:30:10have in your life and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:30:11But you start the start of the conversation is the hobby, which
- 1:30:15is kind of the opposite, I think, to what we do every day.
- 1:30:18You know, if you're talking to Co worker about your hobby, you
- 1:30:22probably have to be given a bit of context and explain and and
- 1:30:25try and say it's, you know, I'm not a child, you know, you know,
- 1:30:27kind of the best thing. And and it's like, but I think
- 1:30:30in these days it's getting more and more acceptable or normalize
- 1:30:34that your people text stuff and it's the same as people that
- 1:30:37click watches and it's the same as people that, you know, click
- 1:30:40stamps or whatever. It's it's nothing different to
- 1:30:43that. You know, it's just now that
- 1:30:46there's a long enough era of toys that, you know, toys are
- 1:30:50kind of something that's kind of from far in the past as well.
- 1:30:53They can be the nostalgia, but there's also this modern cool
- 1:30:57stuff that we can all be into too.
- 1:30:59Yeah, I think it's very cyclical.
- 1:31:01I mean, you know, every age group I think kind of has that
- 1:31:04thing that they go through. You know, we've all probably
- 1:31:07lived through, you know, comics being, you know, a huge
- 1:31:10collection for a lot of people and that that spanned a lot of
- 1:31:13different time frames, you know, because you're talking, you
- 1:31:17know, the golden age back in what, the 1920s and 30s through
- 1:31:20current. I mean, you're still almost 100
- 1:31:21years later and people still collect them.
- 1:31:24And I just think in general, there's a lot less, for lack of
- 1:31:29a better term, shame surrounded, you know, the the nerd, the
- 1:31:33nerdy aspect of things, or, you know, maybe the what weren't
- 1:31:38historically perceived as the usual hobbies.
- 1:31:42And that's, you know, I love it because you find out there's so
- 1:31:46many more people that actually have those interests and, you
- 1:31:49know, just your own little circle where you're located at.
- 1:31:53Well, totally. Yeah.
- 1:31:54Today I was watching a movie and there was skateboarding around.
- 1:31:58And this is a movie aimed at tweens.
- 1:32:01And it made me think that actually this, you know, just
- 1:32:05exactly what you've said there, that a lot of what used to be
- 1:32:08subculture or you know, nerd culture when we were younger is
- 1:32:12now popular culture and all, a lot more people, a lot of kids
- 1:32:18are into it all as well, maybe in a different way.
- 1:32:21But I like to say a lot less pointing fingers and shame about
- 1:32:27doing it and spending the money on it for sure.
- 1:32:31I'm just watching an animated stuff that's more and more like
- 1:32:35what's OK as an adult. You could watch an animated
- 1:32:37series and it can actually be, you know, full of actually grown
- 1:32:41up themes and you know, like can be maybe even on the violent
- 1:32:45spectrum, could be blood and gory that you wouldn't you'd
- 1:32:49say, OK, I can't let my kids watch this and it's a cartoon.
- 1:32:52Whereas, you know, 10/15/20 years ago, if you ask my dad,
- 1:32:56you know, should we watch an animated thing, he'd be like
- 1:32:58what 20, you know, can't be watching that.
- 1:33:03So it's definitely moved on. Definitely moved on, right.
- 1:33:08Shall we move on to have a little look at some of the stuff
- 1:33:11you have, Eugene? How about that?
- 1:33:13Yeah, sounds good. So First off, I was extremely
- 1:33:17impressed. Now we've, we're straight into,
- 1:33:19I mean, there's there's cosmic stuff in here as well, Mal, but
- 1:33:22we're straight into tickling Mal's pin collecting fancies
- 1:33:27here, some beautiful pins and you've gone, you've gone all out
- 1:33:32here and making me feel a little bit like I should have done more
- 1:33:35for the podcast there with some great pins here.
- 1:33:38So tell us about these. So this is actually a
- 1:33:42collaboration with George from the studio.
- 1:33:47So George actually did these for me and the designs are actually
- 1:33:52done by my friend Daniel Douglas in the Cabal.
- 1:33:56He's the one who made my logo years ago and he gave me a few
- 1:33:58options and I liked them. So I thought, well, I reached
- 1:34:02out to George at Legions Con last year and kind of asked him,
- 1:34:06you know, what it would entail. And he said, well, just reach
- 1:34:08out to me. And I had lost those contact
- 1:34:11information. And Eric Miller was kind enough
- 1:34:13to point me in the right direction from there.
- 1:34:16So George and I had went back and forth and came up with these
- 1:34:21four designs based on logos the Dan had made for me.
- 1:34:24So these were done by him. I got him in earlier this
- 1:34:27summer. I think this is what I would
- 1:34:30call the official reveal because I had sent out a couple just to
- 1:34:33a few people throughout the year, but I hadn't actually
- 1:34:35announced them because I wanted to.
- 1:34:38Kind of say that meet the the the pics of them.
- 1:34:40And I was like, oh cool, this is going to be cool.
- 1:34:44So for the listeners, we're looking at these 44 designs.
- 1:34:51We're looking at two different types of shield with at the top
- 1:34:58a full T Rex with a little flame on his tail, one in red, one in
- 1:35:04yellow back with a sorry red or yellow backdrop.
- 1:35:07And below that it's not a flame, is it?
- 1:35:11It's his paintbrush. Sorry, Eugene.
- 1:35:16And then below that, a slightly smaller pin with the sort of
- 1:35:21portrait of the T Rex with a little paintbrush in his hand.
- 1:35:25Again, red background and yellow background.
- 1:35:30So if you see me on any of my socials, it's it's my logo in
- 1:35:34pin format essentially. And my, you know, my name that I
- 1:35:41had kind of chosen for the hobby was based upon an old forum
- 1:35:46name. And then because I was your mock
- 1:35:48is keen on that because it was one of my favorite episodes of
- 1:35:51Transformers growing up was, you know, this big strong dinosaurs,
- 1:35:56whatever. I'm in charge here, you know,
- 1:35:58And during the time that I made that name, I've gotten my PhD in
- 1:36:03psychology. And so then we did a dumb.
- 1:36:07Now, Mal, when you tell us, yeah, he just drops a line.
- 1:36:10Oh. Pickle, as I look in the
- 1:36:12microphone, you know, sorry. Don't let us derail you.
- 1:36:17It makes you feel. Me better.
- 1:36:22I don't get to use it as much as I thought I would, so it doesn't
- 1:36:25really affect. Yours today much the letters.
- 1:36:27It shows you're smart. It shows I'm persistent or.
- 1:36:30Persistent one or the other? We'll go with persistent, but so
- 1:36:35that's how that kind of came across because I was going back
- 1:36:37and forth with Dan on it and then I said, you know, I, you
- 1:36:41know, with copyright stuff, I didn't want to run a file of
- 1:36:44Hasbro or anything like that. So we just kind of at that time,
- 1:36:47I'd been working on a plague Dr. custom.
- 1:36:49He goes what? And he goes, well, you know, why
- 1:36:52don't we kind of go from that ankle?
- 1:36:54I was like, you know, like I like that.
- 1:36:55And so that's kind of how Doctor Graham Customs came about.
- 1:36:59Yeah, it works. It's awesome.
- 1:37:01You had you had little magnets, really cool magnets actually,
- 1:37:04last year with the logo, didn't you?
- 1:37:06Yeah, yeah, my wife made those for everybody last year.
- 1:37:12And this year I will not have magnets, but I'll all the pens
- 1:37:15will be for sale. Not sure on the price yet,
- 1:37:20probably either 10 or $8 and then a discount if you get all
- 1:37:23four. Yeah.
- 1:37:25And I will also have those little badge ribbons that
- 1:37:29everybody else has been posting about lately.
- 1:37:32I haven't come in yet. And I'll have some stickers as
- 1:37:35well. Cool.
- 1:37:38So you know, you can get some, you can get some swag on top of
- 1:37:41the normal stuff, but that's really cool.
- 1:37:45And that's definitely pins that are going to be on my little pin
- 1:37:48thing that you can't see behind me over here.
- 1:37:51I'm looking forward to that right.
- 1:37:55Let's get on to some customs straight away with the Cosby.
- 1:38:00So we we were chatting about the red for the the red jet pilot
- 1:38:06for ages in the summer and then you had nailed it and I was
- 1:38:10like, you know what I'm going to I'm going to concentrate on some
- 1:38:14of the stuff here because Eugene has this nailed and we can see
- 1:38:17how much as we go along here. So this is a this is watch.
- 1:38:24Who did this head sculpt? Like where does this come from?
- 1:38:27I think it's a Wolf King customs head sculpt.
- 1:38:30I think that's one of them that landed done.
- 1:38:32And the original idea, and I just haven't gotten around to
- 1:38:36it, was there was a samurai skeleton transformer by the name
- 1:38:41of Bludgeon. And originally that's where I
- 1:38:43was going to go with it. And then, you know, as I was
- 1:38:46constantly, you know, messaging you how frustrated I was trying
- 1:38:49to find that red color. It became one of my test.
- 1:38:52Heads so nice, well worked. It worked really like this.
- 1:38:57So it's a skeleton with the kind of a it's it looks like a cap.
- 1:39:02Is it or it's some sort of a helmet?
- 1:39:05That's the yeah, the samurai helmet headdress.
- 1:39:08Yeah, very cool, right? We've got a bunch of them here
- 1:39:14then, so now let's come into your table already we can see
- 1:39:20that recognizes a few Wolf Kings here, a few Brian Burke's looks
- 1:39:25like. So Anthony, want to tell us
- 1:39:31about these? I love the gold as well with the
- 1:39:33red. That really works.
- 1:39:35Thank you. Yeah, most of these, like you
- 1:39:38said, are Wolf King or Brian Burke.
- 1:39:41There's also the bottom right, the little samurai look at one.
- 1:39:44I think that one is from the Star Wars Geek Customs on eBay
- 1:39:49that I had linked you about earlier.
- 1:39:50So I bought in a few different like Star Wars and Halo inspired
- 1:39:54ones, and that was one that caught my eye.
- 1:39:56So on these, I just was kind of looking for ways to spruce up
- 1:40:02the red jets because I really like the.
- 1:40:04It's one of the most beautiful cosmic ones, and it is, yeah.
- 1:40:09I just wanted to kind of have a nice little variety for people
- 1:40:12to pick from, especially if they'd gotten some during the
- 1:40:15sale this summer that went on for a while.
- 1:40:17So absolutely, yeah, because they are, they are a figure that
- 1:40:23you want to have a squad of. So if you have a squad of them,
- 1:40:27what's cooler than that is they all have a slightly different
- 1:40:31helmet, head sculpt, whatever it be so really cool.
- 1:40:35So go to Eugene for your red jets.
- 1:40:39And here's a cosmic robot fox fox kind of wolf.
- 1:40:45And it's one of the bundles that landed when he was selling the
- 1:40:49builders. So I can't remember exactly what
- 1:40:52the the name of it was, but that was one of the first ones that I
- 1:40:56had messed around with trying to get that color right.
- 1:41:00That's really good that one. It looks pretty spot on to be
- 1:41:02honest to me. So and we have another one here.
- 1:41:09This is a more more robot looking one or I don't know what
- 1:41:13you'd call it, but yeah, pretty cool.
- 1:41:18Oh, I know this one. This this skeleton head I've
- 1:41:21done a few times in different colours, not in this colour, but
- 1:41:24yeah, it's kind of like a robot skeleton with the, the kind of
- 1:41:28cables coming into the, he's kind of like ports on the head
- 1:41:31that look like they're, you know, feeding him a bit like the
- 1:41:34slog thing where he's connected and kind of juiced up.
- 1:41:39So that was a great idea with this head and the gold teeth.
- 1:41:46You know, it kind of comes off a little Iron Man at times, but I
- 1:41:48like the contrast between that it breaks up the red and the gun
- 1:41:51metal a bit it. Works though, yeah, sure works.
- 1:41:55I saw people when they saw the red jet body originally.
- 1:41:57I remember people going, oh, Iron Man customs.
- 1:42:00So there'll be people eager to get that sort of colour palette
- 1:42:04for sure. Exactly.
- 1:42:06Now see, we're talking about skin tones.
- 1:42:08So you've you're, you're pandering to the dwarf crowd
- 1:42:11here. I am, you know, I, I don't think
- 1:42:15I got any money from them last year.
- 1:42:16So, you know, need to rectify that this year, yeah.
- 1:42:22When they're not, when they're not hustling, they're they're
- 1:42:26they're definitely buying dwarfs.
- 1:42:27So just wink in their general direction.
- 1:42:31The are these both my action figure customs scopes?
- 1:42:35I think 1 might be wolf kings. I think the the one with the
- 1:42:40brunette hair I think that one's wolf king.
- 1:42:42I know the blonde haired 1 is definitely MAFC.
- 1:42:45That's a matter. That's a matter tool, one.
- 1:42:47I've seen that a few times. The eyes look.
- 1:42:50Fantastic. Yeah.
- 1:42:53I love the. I love the fact that you did the
- 1:42:55kind of real shadow around the eyes and then the the kind of
- 1:43:00bright eye in behind it. It looks it looks very almost
- 1:43:03Viking like might. Have been watching The Last
- 1:43:07Kingdom a little bit. Oh yeah, what a show.
- 1:43:11What a show. We should start a podcast about
- 1:43:14that. Maybe a little Patreon side side
- 1:43:21quest. So we got a bunch of yeah, red
- 1:43:24jet helmets here as well. I love the one that's on the
- 1:43:26torso there. You don't know where that one is
- 1:43:29from or. It's a Brian C, it's one of his.
- 1:43:33So it's his, I think he calls it the Angel.
- 1:43:35I can't remember. It's the Angel night or just
- 1:43:37it's the night helmet that he had.
- 1:43:39I gotten a few from him last year that I take into the show
- 1:43:42and people really like that design.
- 1:43:44And so when I ordered a few more parts from him after the show, I
- 1:43:48grabbed a few and I thought, well, let's see what that looks
- 1:43:51like. So.
- 1:43:53That's cool. And this big yellow alien type
- 1:43:56sculpt that is really cool as well.
- 1:44:00That one was from Legion shop before they closed down.
- 1:44:04I think that might be Mark Rivera that did that one.
- 1:44:06I can't remember 100% who did that one.
- 1:44:08OK. So I think that's that's Jesse
- 1:44:13Arnold's kind of group there in Mark Rivera and Brian Season.
- 1:44:17You're covered there with those three boys.
- 1:44:21More red jets. Look at this off the
- 1:44:23Transformers type One over here is cool as well.
- 1:44:25I think that's an Emile Wickman sculpt, isn't it?
- 1:44:29Yeah, that one I need to. I might have to take a wash that
- 1:44:32one before I seal it just to knock the color down a little
- 1:44:34bit. But I really like that the black
- 1:44:38on that one, it's that krill satin black that's become my go
- 1:44:42to for so many things lately. Oh, me too.
- 1:44:45Yeah, I have to say that yeah, that black because it wasn't a
- 1:44:47huge fan of their not black. It's good for certain things,
- 1:44:50but this new satin black they have is fantastic for all these
- 1:44:55kind of black where you want it slightly shiny but not like
- 1:44:59glossy. Really nice.
- 1:45:03And that one you did, you paint that one that's on the body as
- 1:45:06well now. It's the Von Box 1 isn't it?
- 1:45:10From. Yeah.
- 1:45:11Brian Burke, which I think an awesome sculpt.
- 1:45:15Really sort of sinister. Yeah, it's one of my favorites.
- 1:45:19He's done. I was going back and forth
- 1:45:21because I I ordered 2 each month because I usually figure, OK,
- 1:45:25I'll make one and maybe sell one.
- 1:45:28This is one where I'm like I'm going to sell it, but I probably
- 1:45:31will not keep the other one. That's that I've painted that I
- 1:45:34haven't shown so. Yeah.
- 1:45:38Yeah, I mean, it's, I think, I think they're going to be
- 1:45:41popular scubs for I mean, they're cool.
- 1:45:43And also they're they're quite hard to track down if you
- 1:45:46haven't been subscribed to the one box, right.
- 1:45:54Let's move along. Oh, look at that.
- 1:45:56So we've got some more Cosmic. You see, Cosmic is so fun to
- 1:45:59paint, isn't it? There's less rules, which I
- 1:46:02appreciate. Gives me a license to be a
- 1:46:05little bit weird with it, which I appreciate, which I like
- 1:46:08doing. So you can experiment and you
- 1:46:10can try new techniques, as you said.
- 1:46:13And the thing I like about these is they glow in the dark, don't
- 1:46:17they? Yeah.
- 1:46:19These I've got a lot of them. I cosmic have some element of
- 1:46:24fluorescent in it. Here we go.
- 1:46:27I forgot you do that. There you go, they always look.
- 1:46:29So as well in the dark and easy, you've even got some like almost
- 1:46:34magic ink, you would say the way it works where you can put the
- 1:46:39blue light on it and it shows you some kind of code or
- 1:46:44inscription on the head. So.
- 1:46:46My goal every time I paint a cosmic sculpt is to make Mal go
- 1:46:50OK, I need to spend more money. You're working there's people
- 1:46:57who paint vampires that just think of rich and you know
- 1:47:01there's people there's people that paint cosmic like you you
- 1:47:03Dean and they they think ma yeah, I like it.
- 1:47:06That works perfect. And again, this sculpted that we
- 1:47:10talked about over here, the skeleton again with the the
- 1:47:13cables differently done, totally changes it up and really works.
- 1:47:18Again, the eyes as well. Every all the eyes are different
- 1:47:23here, but they all work in their own little different way.
- 1:47:26So I really appreciate that. This lady here.
- 1:47:31Amazing. Yeah.
- 1:47:34She's probably my favorite one I've done this year.
- 1:47:37I did a lot of different things with her that I hadn't done
- 1:47:39before. Yeah, it's, it's really cool
- 1:47:44firstly that you've done the the kind of two different types of
- 1:47:48skin tones, a bit like how Vorga has done in a way and to kind of
- 1:47:54line them up is already difficult, I guess.
- 1:47:58So what did you did you get the blue down and then and then go
- 1:48:01over with the with the kind of pinkish color or how did you do
- 1:48:04that? So I on that one, I just put the
- 1:48:08base coat down on both at the same time so that I could kind
- 1:48:10of clean up the edges as I went along.
- 1:48:14And then the the blue, I did finish up first because I
- 1:48:18actually went in and it's probably easier to see on the
- 1:48:21fluorescent one. But then I went and I did like
- 1:48:23fluorescent light tattoos on the pink and with the hair.
- 1:48:29So that was the first time I tried to do some different type
- 1:48:36of tattooed skin. So that was that was a fun one
- 1:48:39to experiment with. Yeah, she's really cool.
- 1:48:43And then the hair is now another kind of bright colour, like so
- 1:48:48fluorescent green again, close up.
- 1:48:52So, you know, yeah, I'm definitely bringing a blue light
- 1:48:56to Legions Con because I have something like this as well.
- 1:48:58But also to go around to Eugene's table and just, you
- 1:49:01know, maybe tell Joe, Joe Vetre, can you switch off the lights
- 1:49:04there for a SEC? So that happened last year,
- 1:49:09actually by ex. I kind of got a flashback when I
- 1:49:12said that it was a little power outage for a minute or two,
- 1:49:16yeah. Remember, was that Friday night
- 1:49:18or was that during the show itself?
- 1:49:20I. Think it was during the show but
- 1:49:22but I could be wrong. Could be wrong and right.
- 1:49:25More human skin tones and I love all of these.
- 1:49:29I especially like the second one from the left with the kind of
- 1:49:33more modern looking haircut. Almost here.
- 1:49:38Yeah. Just the the the depth he got in
- 1:49:42this guy is really amazing. Yeah, it's one that I bought a
- 1:49:47few of them before they retired it and at some point it will be
- 1:49:50a grown up Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes, but I got to get the
- 1:49:54time to flush that all out. Love that.
- 1:49:58So this, that's, these are all sebadomscos, is that right?
- 1:50:03All but the second one from the right.
- 1:50:05That's a little second one from the right.
- 1:50:06Yeah, that's a working OK. I knew three of them.
- 1:50:11I took a chance. But hey, that's my that's one of
- 1:50:14my favorite service cups. The one in the far right.
- 1:50:16He's. Yeah, I'm going to be really sad
- 1:50:19when that one goes away. Yeah, but you should take it off
- 1:50:22Eugene's hands because really good guys.
- 1:50:24So you know more cool looking scorps here?
- 1:50:30Look at that live reaction here. I missed out on the I didn't get
- 1:50:34the it's the the door Claire from Box that the two either
- 1:50:39side are from and I might be looking for one of them this
- 1:50:42year. Wow, very cool.
- 1:50:47Would you like, would you like if they glowed a little bit like
- 1:50:52the eyes? Even better.
- 1:50:58So do you have a when you do this type of a soap?
- 1:51:03They're they're all kind of similar, like the skin tone here
- 1:51:07of the two on the left, for example, is similar.
- 1:51:10Do you have a an idea for a race of these or do you just couldn't
- 1:51:13think that works well for the sculptor?
- 1:51:17For this, it was more, you know, like I was kind of talking
- 1:51:21earlier. I tend to hit a point where I
- 1:51:22want to try something and more natural looking fur like in
- 1:51:27nature was something that I hadn't really experimented with
- 1:51:31a lot. So I looked at, you know, some
- 1:51:35different animals that I thought might have kind of been inspired
- 1:51:39by it. So I tried a lot of oranges and
- 1:51:41Browns with it just to try to get a little bit more layer in
- 1:51:44depth with it to really bring out the texture that, you know,
- 1:51:47Brian and Emil had put on those sculpts.
- 1:51:51And yeah, a lot of it's just kind of like there's the here's
- 1:51:56the color wheel. I haven't messed with that
- 1:51:58color. What can I?
- 1:51:58What do I think that might work with that?
- 1:52:02Well, you got it, and the horns here on this guy in the middle
- 1:52:05look fantastic as well. I love the different shades he
- 1:52:09got there. And right, some more awesome
- 1:52:13ones. Couple of Wolf's Kings here for
- 1:52:15sure. Maybe all three.
- 1:52:18I think the one on the left is Von Box I think.
- 1:52:24Probably in the meal though as well.
- 1:52:25That's why I was thinking it was a wolf king.
- 1:52:30Yeah, awesome here. I love the like if you put your
- 1:52:35hand over the screen here, if you're watching on YouTube and
- 1:52:38you can just do the different halves of this kind of corrupted
- 1:52:41demon splash, human head. Really cool, really works.
- 1:52:48And again, a dwarf with a helmet with a face card that you can
- 1:52:53put on and off. So, you know, yeah.
- 1:52:56He's he'll probably be part of a full custom if I get it all done
- 1:52:59before I leave. So he that's actually painted to
- 1:53:03match the Valiant night colors. So a Valiant dwarf is currently
- 1:53:08about 75% done. OK, you get there.
- 1:53:13Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Some more.
- 1:53:17So this one in the middle. Tell us about this one.
- 1:53:20Really like that one. That's another bond box I can't
- 1:53:23remember is no need is doing his sea themes.
- 1:53:27And I think I had put Pirates the Caribbean on or something
- 1:53:33just for background noise while I was working one day.
- 1:53:35And, you know, I started talking about pearls and I thought,
- 1:53:38well, you know, he's kind of got those Barnacle looking things on
- 1:53:40his face. So maybe try to make him look a
- 1:53:43little, you know, pearlescent. And that's how that one kind of
- 1:53:48came to be. I intended at some point to have
- 1:53:51it on a Marley body but just haven't gotten around to it.
- 1:53:56Oh, I think that would work. And one of the classic sebadom
- 1:54:00dwarfs here on the right again, with a lot of cool detail in the
- 1:54:06beard too. And then if we move on for that
- 1:54:10other one, we've got a little a little hidden message message
- 1:54:15here. So this is KILLU.
- 1:54:23So yeah, don't want to meet him in a dark alley when I have my
- 1:54:27blue light. Yeah, Cyber cyberpunk club or
- 1:54:33something, Yeah. I think it was.
- 1:54:37I had one last year. I have one last year that I'd
- 1:54:41painted similar to that and I had put you are dead on it.
- 1:54:45And Eric LeBron came right away. He's like, that's mine.
- 1:54:47It's like, OK. And I had a couple people asking
- 1:54:50for one similar to that. I was like, I only got the one.
- 1:54:53So I'll try something a little bit different this time.
- 1:54:55Yeah. It's cool, love it, love it.
- 1:54:59You got to get to Eugene's table quick to snap these up.
- 1:55:02Bring your blue light, search for the hidden messages and then
- 1:55:07some patina to show Matt Stein that he's not the only patina
- 1:55:10man in town. Wasn't.
- 1:55:13The intention? I know, I know, I know, I'm only
- 1:55:16just, I'm only just trying to stir the pot here.
- 1:55:20Looks great. This this helmet on the right is
- 1:55:23a Wolf King classic one. I've seen it.
- 1:55:27I've painted that a few times myself with different colours.
- 1:55:30Great great helmet and the one on the left is a cosmic one from
- 1:55:35wolf king and the one in the middle I don't know at all so
- 1:55:38might be a van box would be my guess.
- 1:55:40Yep, Yep, that's a bon box. So hopefully have those as part
- 1:55:45of full customs as well too. So they're currently they're in
- 1:55:50the disassembled part. But my my bronze night that I
- 1:55:55did or Bettina night I did last year went right away.
- 1:56:00So I thought I'd try to do a couple this year because the
- 1:56:04method I use is a bit different from everybody else's.
- 1:56:07Like it's it's the. Pro curl one that they had found
- 1:56:11about a year ago or. That's a great, that's a great
- 1:56:13one. Yeah.
- 1:56:14So this, I was going to say this is pro curl bronze here.
- 1:56:17Nice. That color.
- 1:56:18It's great. They have three.
- 1:56:20They have a light bronze, a bronze and a dark bronze and I
- 1:56:24love them. I think if I could take only
- 1:56:28those 3 metallic paints, I'd probably just take those three.
- 1:56:31You know if we'd only take 3 metallic panes because you can
- 1:56:34do a lot with them yes, although you would need a metallic
- 1:56:38silver, but they you know we'll have to live without it right?
- 1:56:44I wanted to show one or two other things here from your
- 1:56:47Instagram. So if you can bear with me for
- 1:56:50one second, I'll pop that up. So there we go.
- 1:56:54Our head. You have to you have we sent you
- 1:56:59the two heads to do what you will with them and you did what
- 1:57:03you will and we had a great job of them.
- 1:57:06So this is the shaniqui, the leprechaun head.
- 1:57:10So firstly, the beard. I mean, it just pops off the
- 1:57:14screen. That's really super awesome what
- 1:57:17you've done there with the oranges.
- 1:57:20Love that eyes, the green eyes. Perfect.
- 1:57:24And then talk to us about the the cards here.
- 1:57:27I love oh where on the previous picture.
- 1:57:33Yeah, no, John, I put. Oh, on the screen.
- 1:57:35Sorry. I'm on the other.
- 1:57:36Oh, hello. OK, I'll put you up big here.
- 1:57:39Sorry. Yeah, so I was.
- 1:57:41From Sneak Peek, throw it up there again.
- 1:57:43Eugene, throw it up there. Again.
- 1:57:46Oh wow, look at that, that looks funny.
- 1:57:49So you've used the Marley torso here with the with the coat?
- 1:57:52I love it. So I was actually trying to you
- 1:57:56want to red get this together for a test fit before and I ran
- 1:57:59out of time so. Oh, no problem mate.
- 1:58:01We'll, we'll, we'll happily wait to see that.
- 1:58:04That's going to be gold. Yeah, that, yeah, that looks
- 1:58:06fantastic. I love the red, so you did a
- 1:58:09little nod to to me here with the Irish and Luxembourg flags
- 1:58:14on the cards, which is super cool.
- 1:58:17Just that little extra mile that I love.
- 1:58:20And a little bit on this as well too that you and I had talked
- 1:58:23about. That way you can actually see it
- 1:58:25a little bit clearer. If you oh.
- 1:58:29Hello. Bring you up again.
- 1:58:31Sorry. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:58:32All right, Yeah. It's faint.
- 1:58:35It'll work better under the black light.
- 1:58:36But cool. You and I have had.
- 1:58:38Some conversations. Use this stone language that I
- 1:58:41put on the sculpt on the little metal thing on the on the hat
- 1:58:45where it says ELP in this old stone language.
- 1:58:49And what have you done then? You've I've given you a link to
- 1:58:53where I got it and. This is Sean.
- 1:58:57Sean, since there's no John that exists and that's a translator,
- 1:59:01so. Very cool.
- 1:59:03Awesome. There you go.
- 1:59:05So I love all those little knots and we have.
- 1:59:11At least two eggs. In in golden Easter eggs.
- 1:59:14Exactly. That's the perfect thing.
- 1:59:15Look at that. He's going to come and take your
- 1:59:18breakfast. And you can see that the beard
- 1:59:20glows. Yeah.
- 1:59:22So, yeah, all these Easter eggs, I'm telling you.
- 1:59:26And then the one you did Mal for us.
- 1:59:32So this is this one. So very cool.
- 1:59:36Oh, and we got. Another very cool looking, yeah.
- 1:59:42So here we go. Oh, look at that.
- 1:59:44He's coming together. Oh look, he's done the Marley
- 1:59:47coat again. Yeah, it's a superb piece.
- 1:59:51I hope they do that on the slightly cheaper figure at some
- 1:59:53point. It's the reason I want more
- 1:59:56Frankenstein's to get his coat as well.
- 1:59:58Yeah, yeah, that looks really, really cool.
- 2:00:01Oh, wow. Again, we've got some writing on
- 2:00:04the chest plate. Well, Runish Rune kind of
- 2:00:07things. Yeah.
- 2:00:08Interesting. Yeah.
- 2:00:10I got you guys's, you guys's and then Mao on there so oh.
- 2:00:15Awesome, awesome. There you go.
- 2:00:20He's coming for a smile, coming for our wallets.
- 2:00:25So yeah, you get a great look there at the little different
- 2:00:29metallic details and the teeth are awesome.
- 2:00:31And and this does this go under blacklight as well?
- 2:00:39No, this one, that one doesn't. I don't think I did any black
- 2:00:42light on that one. Cool.
- 2:00:46Yeah. You got a great look at it
- 2:00:47there. So I love painting that sculpt.
- 2:00:50I did it a few different ways and I also with the
- 2:00:53fluorescence. And then I also did a custom
- 2:00:56where I did it kind of grim, darky kind of color.
- 2:01:00And yeah, I think I could do it another ten ways of, you know,
- 2:01:03you know, if we have some leftover, she's gone, I'll
- 2:01:08probably just scoop them up for myself and say, right, I'm going
- 2:01:10to do more paint on these because they're so much fun to
- 2:01:12paint. So they're great, they're great
- 2:01:16that that sculpt is a great beginner friendly sculpt to
- 2:01:18paint, but it's also one that if you're, you know, you're, you're
- 2:01:21further down the road on your customizing journey, you can do
- 2:01:24all the little details and you can do more highlighting and
- 2:01:30washing and stuff like that. That glazing that you wouldn't,
- 2:01:34that you could, you know, do really easily with the kind of,
- 2:01:38you know, fairly beginner method and the beginner method still
- 2:01:44looks awesome, but you can get at that other 10% if you do
- 2:01:47your, your kind of more advanced techniques.
- 2:01:49So that's what I like about it where some sculpts like I think
- 2:01:52the leprechaun is a little bit more daunting to paint because
- 2:01:55there's just you have to do the human face and the hat is a bit
- 2:02:00awkward with the hair. And there's a lot of I don't
- 2:02:03know about you, Eugene, but I had to come back and touch up
- 2:02:05the hair and the hat and just make sure that, you know, then
- 2:02:08I, I do in LastPass and then I go off.
- 2:02:10There's a little bit of hair in the hat.
- 2:02:12I need to know, you know, go and.
- 2:02:14I've got to say that's one of the concepts I think I do got
- 2:02:18perfectly understood from my sort of what I was telling him
- 2:02:22was because, you know, I'd mentioned having the the plates
- 2:02:27like armour play thing on this with the intention that you
- 2:02:30could wash it and then dry brush it and still get a really good
- 2:02:34result if you were a bit more of a beginner, Yeah.
- 2:02:37Yeah, I think he got it to a tee.
- 2:02:40I wasn't. I was too stupid to say that.
- 2:02:42But at the same time I'm happy with what I got.
- 2:02:45They're both fantastic. We've got, we've got both bases
- 2:02:47covered. So if you want to go all out,
- 2:02:50you can get my 1:00 and if you want to just have an easy time
- 2:02:53and get miles, and if you want both, you can get both.
- 2:02:55Everyone should buy both. I agree they're fantastic
- 2:02:59sculpts and I appreciate you guys trusting me with the no.
- 2:03:03You know, if we weren't going to trust you, we weren't going to
- 2:03:05trust anyone. Let's be honest.
- 2:03:06Yeah, yeah, yeah. Thank you.
- 2:03:08And Eugene, the time was absolutely flown and this has
- 2:03:12been such fun chat and I really enjoyed it.
- 2:03:15And I can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks from this
- 2:03:19conversation and probably less than a week from when this
- 2:03:23episode is out. So imagine that.
- 2:03:25Are you just one last thing? Are you going to intern or any
- 2:03:27of those things? I'm not.
- 2:03:29We were fortunate to do intern the last two years but did not
- 2:03:33get picked this year. OK, I don't, I don't feel super
- 2:03:35bad for you then if you've done that.
- 2:03:38When are you? When are you hitting the tarmac
- 2:03:41in New York? I'm flying in Wednesday nights,
- 2:03:45I'll get in late Wednesday night.
- 2:03:47I think about 10:30 at night, so we've seen.
- 2:03:49Thursday after we might see it for breakfast, but otherwise we
- 2:03:53see a Thursday and after intern back at the hotel we can have a
- 2:04:00little refreshment and whatever we'll chat.
- 2:04:04Sound like a plan? Sounds like a plan.
- 2:04:07I'm going to say it's too bad Rich isn't here because, you
- 2:04:09know, he, he missed his little got to show.
- 2:04:15That off, yeah. Oh my God.
- 2:04:17He likes, he likes the red hellions, but you know, I'll
- 2:04:20just have to, I'll have to take it apart because you know, he's
- 2:04:22ducking me so that. Is very cool.
- 2:04:29That is so cool, love it Eugene. Yeah, brilliant.
- 2:04:33Yeah. I have.
- 2:04:34See, you've sent me a picture of that head before, just asking me
- 2:04:38what I thought of it. And would Rich, you know, would
- 2:04:41Rich be impressed? Yeah, of course.
- 2:04:43You know, But yeah, very cool to see the kind of build you're
- 2:04:48going to use. And.
- 2:04:50Then Mouse showed that Terminator earlier today and
- 2:04:54looked fantastic. If I can't before he beats me on
- 2:05:00this one. Oh, we're going to have a battle
- 2:05:07across. You got to bring it now, Mel,
- 2:05:10We're going to have a battle across across the hall.
- 2:05:13Look at that Predator. He's done a Predator.
- 2:05:16It's the Novian lean head he's used.
- 2:05:18Look at that ingenious. The tassels and the dreadlocks
- 2:05:23he's used the the little pipe, the little tube pieces that you
- 2:05:27get with the helmets he has mounted a gun on.
- 2:05:33What is that piece that the gun is on, Eugene?
- 2:05:36It's actually the the latest speccy in their crotch piece.
- 2:05:41So I awesome plugs into his plugs into his back shoulder and
- 2:05:44then there's. A he's butcher, dyspexion, just,
- 2:05:47you know, just to get a shoulder pad.
- 2:05:48There you go. And he's magnetized it.
- 2:05:50Oh my God. And oh, how do I painted that as
- 2:05:56well, the skin and all that that's.
- 2:06:00So cool. Oh, we're going out in the
- 2:06:02Bangor. Well, look, it can't get any
- 2:06:04better than that. So see you latest Thursday
- 2:06:07evening in Legions Con week. Eugene, thanks so many for your
- 2:06:12time this has been. Thanks for having me guys.
- 2:06:20Right, we have him back again. He was part of our interviews
- 2:06:25with our awesome patrons and he's back again for a chap
- 2:06:28because he is playing a pretty decent role in a little event
- 2:06:32this year in Allegiance Con. It's Chris James.
- 2:06:36How are you, Chris? Doing good, Sir.
- 2:06:38Thank you guys for having me on again.
- 2:06:40It's it's an absolute pleasure. No problem.
- 2:06:42Thanks for being one of our supporters and always giving us
- 2:06:48a positive awesome feedback. So that's it's always super to
- 2:06:52hear. And so how are you doing?
- 2:06:57You had a little informal kind of part swap thing last year.
- 2:07:02And this has kind of evolved, which is what a lot of this the
- 2:07:08whole legions counting has kind of come from a smaller thing
- 2:07:11into a bigger thing. And now you're a smaller little
- 2:07:14super cool idea that people kind of spontaneously joined in.
- 2:07:17Some people maybe were more prepared than others, like the
- 2:07:21others being me and but yeah, so you're you did a little part
- 2:07:27swap last year in the lobby kind of area or one of the lobby
- 2:07:30areas and now it's kind of getting officialized this year.
- 2:07:35Yeah, that's, it's, it's pretty awesome.
- 2:07:38It actually the whole idea came back two years ago at Legion
- 2:07:43Scott in 2022. And it was like kind of like the
- 2:07:46months leading up to it with Nathaniel Armstrong was looking
- 2:07:50for some specific parts. I happened to have those.
- 2:07:54And then we ended up just talking about maybe just working
- 2:07:56out the trade in the hotel lobby.
- 2:07:59And then that's, that's what we did.
- 2:08:01And it was nice. I mean, it was literally just us
- 2:08:04at that time. And then like it just, I don't
- 2:08:07know, it was fun. It was, it was a good time.
- 2:08:10And then it was last year literally like 2 weeks before
- 2:08:15the show, I had the idea and I just, I put together, put
- 2:08:19together everything, the rules and stuff like that, sent it
- 2:08:23over to Jeremy just to see maybe if he'd OK it.
- 2:08:26And he was cool with everything. We talked about a couple of like
- 2:08:30the rules and then he greenlit it.
- 2:08:32So I made the post and that's why a lot of people really
- 2:08:36didn't know about it because it was on such short notice.
- 2:08:40But one of the things the the biggest take away might that
- 2:08:44made my Legions Con weekend for me is that we wasn't even an
- 2:08:47hour into the event and Joe Viteri came over, checked over
- 2:08:52the tables and stuff and looked at me and told me that this was
- 2:08:54a genius idea and we're going to make it a staple going forward.
- 2:08:58And then shook my hand. That made my entire weekend
- 2:09:01because I felt like it went over more than what I could have ever
- 2:09:05expected. And then hearing from Jeremy
- 2:09:08multiple times throughout this year that we're going to make it
- 2:09:11official now it's officially like on the programming, I've
- 2:09:15worked with Len and some of the other guys that are going to be
- 2:09:19like kind of like the mainstays in it.
- 2:09:21And Lynn came up and did the the, the little logo and the
- 2:09:26name. That's a part of the event.
- 2:09:28So it's like it's becoming more real and I just can't wait to
- 2:09:32see what happens when we get there.
- 2:09:35Absolutely. Yeah.
- 2:09:36So we see here on the agenda, you see it there, Legions in the
- 2:09:40lobby right there at it says 9:00 PM on two.
- 2:09:46No, sorry, it's not legions in the lobby.
- 2:09:47It's 7:00 PM pop and swaps parts exchange.
- 2:09:51So bring your legions father, and get ready to exchange and
- 2:09:54swap parts. Learn more about popping and
- 2:09:57swapping led by Chris James and the team at Wolf King Customs.
- 2:10:02So held in the 1st floor lobby space.
- 2:10:04And for dumb Europeans like us, you think that's up the stairs,
- 2:10:08but it's actually no, it's on the ground floor, the one we
- 2:10:11call G, So not the first floor, the lobby.
- 2:10:15So yeah, right, right. So is it the same place as last
- 2:10:18year down that kind of corridor to kind of outside where the
- 2:10:22main doors are, are? Have you decided?
- 2:10:24It's going to be it's not going to be in the exact same spot
- 2:10:28only because of the amount of people.
- 2:10:29And from what Jeremy said, without giving away anything
- 2:10:32'cause he he, he didn't. But apparently that space is
- 2:10:35gonna be a little bit more crowded with stuff they're gonna
- 2:10:37have. So take that how you will.
- 2:10:41It's gonna be down the main hall where the the two entrances are
- 2:10:45into into you guys's table and stuff like that.
- 2:10:48So it's gonna. Be in that little hallway, yeah.
- 2:10:51Yep, that's where it's that's the where it's gonna take place.
- 2:10:55Awesome, awesome. And as you said, you have this
- 2:11:00awesome logo. This is the one that that
- 2:11:03landed, is that right? Yeah, from what I know, Lynn got
- 2:11:07with Jesse Arnold and through that, through that logo
- 2:11:10together. So who's this?
- 2:11:11Who's this handsome fella in the logo?
- 2:11:13I. Don't know, I have.
- 2:11:16I have no idea. I mean, it looks like you,
- 2:11:19Chris, but without the cap, but you know, I've never seen it.
- 2:11:22For that baseball cap, so. Yeah, now we know he has hair,
- 2:11:25which is which is kind of more than a lot of the guys at
- 2:11:28Legions can, you know. So love it, Chris, love it.
- 2:11:32And yeah, so this is really cool.
- 2:11:34Are you going to do any little stick?
- 2:11:35Is Dang going to do stickers and stuff with because I want the
- 2:11:38sticker or you know. I think this year it's just
- 2:11:43going to be the logo. There may or may not be a banner
- 2:11:48with that, but the plan is for next year to have stickers,
- 2:11:56potentially shirts, other other sort of things, maybe even pens
- 2:12:00maybe. Pin would be good.
- 2:12:04If we get to it later, there is a teaser in the logo actually of
- 2:12:09something that's going to be fully revealed at Legions Con
- 2:12:12because I've also been part of another group that I was given
- 2:12:17the reins of back in the summer. So you can kind of make it out
- 2:12:20on the shirt, but it'll be fully revealed and I'll have stickers
- 2:12:24of that. I'll have stickers of that.
- 2:12:28But I also took a play out of your guys's book that I really
- 2:12:31enjoyed because stickers you'll you'll find stickers, you'll
- 2:12:34find shirts and you'll find pins.
- 2:12:36I like different and that was one of the big takeaways that I
- 2:12:39like from your guys's table from last year is that if I remember
- 2:12:43right, you guys had beer coasters on your tip.
- 2:12:45Oh yeah, you're looking at the man in the middle there.
- 2:12:47Mal. He.
- 2:12:47He. So I'm going to have, I'll have
- 2:12:50Custer, I'll have coasters of the full design that's on the
- 2:12:53shirt, but I don't have. So I'm going to be giving them
- 2:12:57out. I subconsciously stole that off
- 2:13:00idea of Legions lounge so I've got to give them credits.
- 2:13:07All good, all good, all good ideas are are worth copying, you
- 2:13:11know, so we OK this text a bit small on the screen here, but we
- 2:13:16should maybe just go through it a little bit Chris, so the
- 2:13:21people know kind of you know, there is some there is some
- 2:13:25rules. So we should.
- 2:13:28So the first thing to say is that it's it's a pop and swap
- 2:13:33events. So we're, you know, people.
- 2:13:35The main idea here is to swap different legions parts.
- 2:13:40So I guess the concept is, you know, we all have tubs of
- 2:13:44accessories that we don't use at our figures or if if we're
- 2:13:47customizers, for example, we may be bought figures for custom.
- 2:13:51You you needed like the lower legs or the upper legs and you
- 2:13:55need to the accessories and then you don't, you don't, you know,
- 2:13:58the rest of it goes into your father and then you either use
- 2:14:02it on the future custom or it just sits there for ages and you
- 2:14:05don't know what to do with it. And then you come and say, oh, I
- 2:14:09need these upper legs that I don't have.
- 2:14:11And then you put a post up in the cabal maybe and you say,
- 2:14:14does anyone have these upper legs?
- 2:14:15I have different parts to trade. So this is going to be that in
- 2:14:19person? Pretty much, yeah.
- 2:14:21Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:14:24One of the big takeaways, like you mentioned in the beginning
- 2:14:26is that so Bill Dorklayer is going to have his own table set
- 2:14:31up and he'll have kind of like demoing and allowing people to
- 2:14:37come up and get more hands on experience about doing the pop
- 2:14:40and swap. And then for anybody else that's
- 2:14:44been more a part of the line, they'll get kind of directed to
- 2:14:47everybody else's tables or spots that they have with their bins
- 2:14:52and things like that. Right.
- 2:14:58And the kind of main thing here is that we're we're looking for
- 2:15:02factory parts, is that right? Can you can you explain that
- 2:15:04kind of thinking behind it? Yeah, So in in the spirit of the
- 2:15:11event, because it is legions con, it's a con for legions and
- 2:15:16stuff like that. So it's obviously anything
- 2:15:19that's made by the Four Horsemen Studios, Figure Obscura, Mythic
- 2:15:22legions, Cosmic Legions, all of those parts are OK after talking
- 2:15:27with some of the guys. Cause what?
- 2:15:31Cause since this is a combined event for doing the pop and swap
- 2:15:35that Len and Dorklayer has been doing, so it's going to be
- 2:15:40pieces as long as they're fodder.
- 2:15:43They can be pieces from other lines, but they have to be
- 2:15:47factory pieces. This, this absolutely cannot be
- 2:15:503D printed parts just because of all the other individuals that
- 2:15:56are going to be selling 3D printed parts inside during show
- 2:16:00hours. So for example, like I had
- 2:16:02mentioned, like toys biz Lord of the Rings figures, as long as
- 2:16:06the figures are broken down, then that's fine.
- 2:16:09If it's from other lines like Jeremy has used a number of
- 2:16:12times Hasbro Black Series Kylo Ren pieces, as long as those are
- 2:16:16individual pieces, then that's fine.
- 2:16:19No full figures of any line is allowed to be traded or anything
- 2:16:25like that. OK, cool.
- 2:16:27So it's a, it's a true kind of fodder swap.
- 2:16:30So yeah. And then the pop and swap part
- 2:16:34of it is along the lines of what Wolfgang did before.
- 2:16:37Is that is that right? Yeah.
- 2:16:42This year it's going to, yeah, it's going to be really similar
- 2:16:45to like what they have done, except from what I understand
- 2:16:47this year it's not going to be Lynn's bins, it's actually going
- 2:16:52to be Thor Claire's. So what he's been doing is since
- 2:16:594 Horsemen has been having the in stock sales with like Legion
- 2:17:02builders and things like that. He's been picking up some here
- 2:17:06and there and breaking them down and putting them into bins.
- 2:17:10Excuse me? So he'll have his bin set up and
- 2:17:13allow people to come up, pick pieces.
- 2:17:16If they want to leave one, then they can.
- 2:17:18Otherwise they can pick whatever pieces they have to.
- 2:17:22I'm not sure if they're going to be able to build a figure out of
- 2:17:26it, but they'll be able to find that out through through him in
- 2:17:32person there. Cool.
- 2:17:35So I'm just kind of link it. This links well into your event
- 2:17:39then as well because you can, you know, people can kind of
- 2:17:42pick up parts and you know, see how to integrate it into and
- 2:17:47what about, you know, buying parts?
- 2:17:51Is that allowed or is this purely a trade thing?
- 2:17:55So that's kind of that's kind of the Gray area, right.
- 2:17:59OK. So that's the last resort thing.
- 2:18:02Yes, kind of like if if you read through or if anybody was to
- 2:18:06read through, like the roles that was never actually
- 2:18:09explicitly mentioned, but it's it was not mentioned.
- 2:18:13So then that way we don't have people coming up with bins or
- 2:18:15totes or whatever of parts and truly just selling because that
- 2:18:19takes away from the spirit. If if somebody was to come up
- 2:18:23and they didn't have anything like maybe, but it's more the
- 2:18:29the whole spirit behind it is barter, trading piece for piece.
- 2:18:34Yeah, that's that's really where it's supposed to be.
- 2:18:37OK. So it's, yeah, it's, it's really
- 2:18:39a trade event. I mean, maybe as you say, if
- 2:18:43there's someone that just happens to stumble along and
- 2:18:45they're like, oh, I really need the sword and you don't have
- 2:18:49anything, then we can maybe, but it's not, it's not designed for,
- 2:18:54as you say, somebody to come along and say, right, 500 bucks
- 2:18:57for this bucket of stuff. You know, that's, that's not the
- 2:19:02that's not the vibe we're going for here.
- 2:19:04Cool. So and so you're going to be
- 2:19:08busy with that and we're still going to make them My wife is
- 2:19:13going to kill me show I guess at 9:00 that same night.
- 2:19:17Got to do the, got to do the tear down pretty quickly, then
- 2:19:21afterwards. Here's here's the thing right,
- 2:19:24because I did message Jeremy about that because we were
- 2:19:26talking in the beginning, we were talking going back and
- 2:19:28forth on times. I'm totally cool with it being
- 2:19:32later like it was last year, but we decided that we would do it
- 2:19:36earlier because of the like the after hours and before dinner
- 2:19:41and stuff like that. So because there wasn't really
- 2:19:43anything going on. So I'm completely cool with
- 2:19:45that. The end time is 8:30 because I
- 2:19:48want to attend the My Wife is going to Kill Me Guys podcast.
- 2:19:51OK, fair enough. But I asked a great event.
- 2:19:54Exactly. I had asked him, you know, is it
- 2:19:58OK after the show is over, if those that are interested wanted
- 2:20:03to restart it, is that OK? Could I, could I do that?
- 2:20:06And he said, yeah, absolutely. So it can actually stay, It can
- 2:20:11go as long as it goes. It doesn't technically have to
- 2:20:15end at 8:30. If there is somebody that's
- 2:20:18there that's not going to be attending the my wife is going
- 2:20:21to kill me show and they want to go ahead and continue it.
- 2:20:24As long as they can continue it within the same rules that are
- 2:20:28applied, then it can go. It can go until like it did last
- 2:20:31year, after 1:00 AM. So yeah, I'm totally cool.
- 2:20:35I'm here for it. So let's do it.
- 2:20:37Awesome, awesome. OK, so that's yeah, so it's
- 2:20:40going to be it's going to be a kind of community thing.
- 2:20:44I think like all these things that I've seen at legions gone,
- 2:20:48it'll it will just kind of continue and and work.
- 2:20:53The thing is to get it going and then, you know, it's like a sing
- 2:20:56song at a party, you know, once you get it going, never stops.
- 2:21:01Yeah, exactly. Cool.
- 2:21:04So tell me what what are your other plans for legions gone and
- 2:21:09what's, what's your kind of bucket list of stuff that you
- 2:21:12want to get apart from the people?
- 2:21:15I mean, we we all know that the main thing when you do there is
- 2:21:18go and hang out with the people. But who are you looking for on
- 2:21:22on Saturday? Are you going to intern firstly?
- 2:21:26As far as I know right now, no I didn't.
- 2:21:28I didn't get selected and I wasn't invited, but we are going
- 2:21:32to be up there. We're checking in on Wednesday
- 2:21:35just like what we did last year. So it's like if, in the event,
- 2:21:39if I don't, I'm fine with that. I've been there twice.
- 2:21:41I'm, I'm OK. We have plans what we're going
- 2:21:45to do if, if I don't go, because she knows that if I, if I do for
- 2:21:49some reason get an invite, I really want to go to intern
- 2:21:52again. But if I don't, then we're going
- 2:21:54to take a drive up to like Sleepy Hollow and check that
- 2:21:58place out, have some lunch there, sightsee, make our way
- 2:22:02back to the hotel. So.
- 2:22:04So that'll be, that'll be fun. One way or another, you're going
- 2:22:07to have a good Thursday. Oh yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 2:22:11And then Friday we got G Con, So obviously we're going to be
- 2:22:16we're going to be lined up for that.
- 2:22:18And and then Friday nights we got the bar.
- 2:22:27Oh, set up and then I'm going. To try and be in.
- 2:22:29Bed set up. More like I was last year, yeah.
- 2:22:33But we'll, we'll see what happens.
- 2:22:35Last year Saturday morning, I didn't go into bed until 6:30 of
- 2:22:40day one. Yeah.
- 2:22:41Oh, like Friday into Saturday. Yes.
- 2:22:45Oh my God, and did you get up at like 9 or whatever when the
- 2:22:49start time was? I I got up to take a shower
- 2:22:52about an hour after the show started.
- 2:22:55OK. Like she came back up to the
- 2:22:57room because she she went down there just basically as it was
- 2:23:00opening and she asked. Me to get the show figures or
- 2:23:04whatever. To no, no, no, I didn't even
- 2:23:06worry about those. I wasn't I wasn't worried about
- 2:23:09those at all. It was it was customs and
- 2:23:11custom. So I gave her the ones that I
- 2:23:14wanted. She made a beeline down.
- 2:23:15She came back up with the stuff and she's like, did you know
- 2:23:18that there was a new figure? I like what new.
- 2:23:20Figure. I had no idea.
- 2:23:24So like, I got up and I was like, all right, well, I guess
- 2:23:26I'm gonna go down there and figure this out.
- 2:23:28So I took a shower, got dressed, came down immediately ran into
- 2:23:31door Claire and I was like, is that the new figure?
- 2:23:34And he's like, yeah, here, check it out.
- 2:23:35He already had it out. So I got to like mess with.
- 2:23:38The little girl, yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 2:23:41But yeah, it was, it was basically, it was basically
- 2:23:45that. And then Saturday, she told me
- 2:23:49after or during the pop and swap event or the fodder event, she's
- 2:23:54like, I don't mind you staying out, just make sure you're not
- 2:23:56back by 6:30. I was like, OK, yeah, I can do
- 2:23:59that. So Saturday night going into
- 2:24:02Sunday morning, I came back to the room at six you.
- 2:24:07Took that literally, like not 630.
- 2:24:09You were like, you had an alarm set on your phone for six then,
- 2:24:12yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 2:24:15I put Eric Miller to bed. I put Walter to bed.
- 2:24:18Who's this bad influence on you that's keeping you up that late?
- 2:24:21Or is it? Is it the Chris James influence?
- 2:24:24It's kind. Well, last year it was, it was
- 2:24:26more me actually, because like I had just like everybody does.
- 2:24:30I was having such a good time hanging out with everybody and
- 2:24:35nobody, nobody asked me to do it right.
- 2:24:37No, I mean, you're just, I mean, I guess you do yourself, you
- 2:24:41know, it's like sometimes like if I'm at a like an event like
- 2:24:46this or a wedding, my Irish jeans just kick in and it just,
- 2:24:49it just works, you know, mostly saying goodbye.
- 2:24:52Well, that too. But, you know, up until then I'm
- 2:24:54absolutely amazing, you know, but if I went to something that
- 2:24:58I was like bored me to tears, I'd be like, I, I could just
- 2:25:01fall asleep in the corner, you know, at 10:00, you know, no
- 2:25:03problem. But if you know, so I do think
- 2:25:07there is there is something you know in you if if something is a
- 2:25:11good time we have we have an adrenaline way of kind of
- 2:25:15keeping us going Friday. Night I Friday night I was up
- 2:25:20until like 3:00 AM and the time. And just flew, flew by.
- 2:25:25It was great now because I could get asleep before you started
- 2:25:29snoring because you weren't there.
- 2:25:31Snoring and the fidgeting next. Well, that I don't care about.
- 2:25:36It's just a nice noise. It's honestly it's fine.
- 2:25:39I'd sleep through a storm. I used to as a late teen, early
- 2:25:4320s. I used to have like a ghetto
- 2:25:46blaster in my room. My mother used to always have to
- 2:25:48come in and put it off when she went to bed and it was always
- 2:25:51screeching, like loud heavy metal or rock music or whatever.
- 2:25:55I would be sleeping 10 minutes to that.
- 2:25:57You know, if one of my kids did it now, I'd be disgusted, but I
- 2:26:01used to do it. Maybe that's what we should do,
- 2:26:04is to drown out all last snore and he's put somebody on in the
- 2:26:07background. Yeah.
- 2:26:08Exactly. Yeah.
- 2:26:09What's your favorite rock album? OK, let's stick it on.
- 2:26:12And then you'll have the the Porter calling to the door.
- 2:26:15Sorry, Sir. And are are you from Florida,
- 2:26:21Chris or are you originally, you're originally from Florida.
- 2:26:25So they breed them hard down there.
- 2:26:27You know, you're, you're, you're well able to keep the pace.
- 2:26:32Yeah, yeah. And what what part?
- 2:26:37I'm in Brevard County. So if you look at the map of
- 2:26:40Florida, there's like a point that comes off on the East
- 2:26:43Coast. That's where Cape Canaveral's
- 2:26:44at. So I live kind of across the
- 2:26:46river from like NASA, SpaceX. Oh, cool, wow, cool.
- 2:26:50So you get to see the Rockets. When they Yeah.
- 2:26:53Yeah, exactly. And.
- 2:26:55Where is that in relation to Jacksonville then that's.
- 2:26:59It's about about an hour and a half South.
- 2:27:02OK, because I know I know Jacksonville, there's some
- 2:27:07musicians I know that come from there, like famous ones.
- 2:27:09Obviously, I don't know them. I know of them.
- 2:27:13I've heard, I've heard of Jackson because I mean,
- 2:27:15obviously we all know Florida, Orlando of Miami, you know,
- 2:27:18Disney World, all that kind of stuff.
- 2:27:19But there's other cool things there.
- 2:27:22But and you survived the storms then you guys guess over the
- 2:27:24east side it wasn't as bad. No.
- 2:27:28Well, it was bad in some areas because like down South of us,
- 2:27:33Palm Beach Gardens, I think that's like West Palm Beach
- 2:27:36County. They got hammered.
- 2:27:39Oh, really? They got hammered because they
- 2:27:40had so many tornadoes that there were so many tornadoes that this
- 2:27:44storm produced that it was it was insane.
- 2:27:47But luckily. Like our area, I read, I read
- 2:27:50that there would be little pockets of areas, so you could
- 2:27:53be living like a mile over this way in your grand and then that
- 2:27:56other place a mile over just got a tornado and got like
- 2:27:59absolutely. We had one tornado warning.
- 2:28:02The entire show or the entire? The entire storm, Yeah.
- 2:28:07Was the show in a way. Yeah, kind of.
- 2:28:09I mean, we didn't lose power the entire time.
- 2:28:11So that was. Awesome.
- 2:28:13Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's it's just, yeah.
- 2:28:17It's incredible that, you know, more people.
- 2:28:20Obviously some people died and that was terrible, but like it
- 2:28:23could have been, I was, it's one of these it's, it was like a bit
- 2:28:26of a slow car crash because everyone knew it was going to
- 2:28:29happen and everyone was kind of had to do whatever.
- 2:28:33You know, if you were told to evacuate or if you couldn't
- 2:28:36evacuate and you had to stay and then everyone was just sitting
- 2:28:38there waiting for it to happen. It was like this kind of awful
- 2:28:42maybe I suppose 24 hours before it actually passed through and
- 2:28:46then passed through. Then people just had to kind of
- 2:28:49figure out what their situation was.
- 2:28:53And I'm sure lots of people are still dealing with it obviously.
- 2:28:55But I'm glad that at least the few people I know down there,
- 2:29:00including yourself, Chris doesn't seem to have been too
- 2:29:02bad for you. So, and hopefully you don't get.
- 2:29:06The most I heard that of everybody in the area that that
- 2:29:08are kind of like a part of like our group and stuff.
- 2:29:12It was just like power. Nothing, nothing major
- 2:29:15thankfully like no severe damage or nothing like that.
- 2:29:18It's just basically like small debris and stuff like that, so.
- 2:29:22Cool. And so then is there is there
- 2:29:26anything else up to legions kind of any local shows renting
- 2:29:29that's going to going to happen or are you, are you now in the
- 2:29:34Legions con zone? I'm in the Legions con zone.
- 2:29:37I've been in the Legions con zone for about I think basically
- 2:29:40when I came back from ish comp, that was pretty much it.
- 2:29:44Like, yeah, you know, once that show is done, now it's just
- 2:29:47focused on this and that's that's totally it.
- 2:29:52Well, right. And then what was So what are
- 2:29:56you looking to pick up then? Allegiance gone, you're looking
- 2:29:59for customs. What are you?
- 2:30:01Because you you do cost your customize yourself.
- 2:30:03I mean, you don't post that much stuff, but I know that you are a
- 2:30:05customizer and so you obviously do a lot of customizing for
- 2:30:11yourself. And so do you pick up customs
- 2:30:15from other people or I mean, I know what you said you picked up
- 2:30:17custom heads, but what's the plan of attack for Allegiance
- 2:30:21gun? I don't know if I'm going to do
- 2:30:23it the same way I did last year because I may go more of just
- 2:30:26heads, maybe because last year I did heads, but I also picked up.
- 2:30:30I've loads of heads so just go heads.
- 2:30:33Yeah, it's like these boxes right here, and that's all 3D
- 2:30:37printed parts. And that's not even, that's not
- 2:30:38even a fraction of everything that I have.
- 2:30:40Wow. Yeah.
- 2:30:43But last year I picked up some full custom figures.
- 2:30:47I may do it again. It just, it just depends because
- 2:30:50it's like I, it has to speak to me.
- 2:30:52If it's not speaking to me, then like, you know, it's cool.
- 2:30:55I appreciate it for what it is and the work that was put into
- 2:30:59it. But it's I'm, I don't know.
- 2:31:01I don't know exactly. It's hard to, I don't know.
- 2:31:06I want to see if there's any surprises on the table.
- 2:31:10I'm looking forward to the Army experience.
- 2:31:12I know I said it to you guys, Mal and Richie wasn't here, but
- 2:31:18but I did wonder if because we now have the parts in the
- 2:31:22library, whether we would get a barbarian like, you know, the
- 2:31:27valid night, Valiant night. But now they have all the
- 2:31:31unarmored human parts. So you could do like a
- 2:31:34barbarian, like really a barbarian with just the, you
- 2:31:37know, the belt and straps or whatever with all those human
- 2:31:41parts to be a kind of a kind of a roaming barbarian, a bit like
- 2:31:45the Valiant night is a kind of a night that goes across the
- 2:31:47Kingdom. So maybe not this year, but I
- 2:31:51think that would be a great way to to introduce those parts into
- 2:31:55the into the kind of community. So I have a sneaking.
- 2:32:00Suspicion that we're going to find some surprises on the
- 2:32:03table. Like I know nothing, but I just,
- 2:32:05I have a sneaking suspicion that there's going to be something.
- 2:32:08Totally. And as I said, we're all in the
- 2:32:11same boat as regards to what we know.
- 2:32:13We only know the public available information, which
- 2:32:15isn't that much. Now we know the Armory, of
- 2:32:17course, and we've been through all that and that's awesome.
- 2:32:20But we we have no clue what the wave is.
- 2:32:23I can safely say we could maybe, you know, suspect that big item
- 2:32:28that that, you know, shall not be named is possibly going to be
- 2:32:33there. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:32:34Might have some wings and and we don't know what the wave is
- 2:32:39going to be like. This time last year we were
- 2:32:41talking about, you know, red sun still rising Suns.
- 2:32:45We were talking about Suns of the Red Star versus House of the
- 2:32:48noble bear. And we were flogging rich to
- 2:32:50death about, you know, how there was going to be more noble bear
- 2:32:54than Red Star and all this kind of stuff.
- 2:32:57And he was getting very stressed out.
- 2:32:59This year. We have no clue.
- 2:33:00Could be two new factions, for example, which would be amazing.
- 2:33:04Could be a bit from everywhere, could be, you know, which would
- 2:33:07be in another smart thing for them to do.
- 2:33:09So I have no clue. And as I said, we might, you
- 2:33:14know, we might closer to the time have an idea because the
- 2:33:18hands get dropped. But as what have we just a bit a
- 2:33:22bit under three weeks out now as we record this, there's been
- 2:33:25nothing. It's like a murder across the
- 2:33:28studio. I mean you've got good Ndas or
- 2:33:32something over there guys, because nothing is coming out.
- 2:33:34It's it's you know, there are 0 leaks.
- 2:33:38There are companies and political parties around the
- 2:33:41world that like leak like a sieve.
- 2:33:44There is nothing coming out of the Four Horsemen.
- 2:33:46So I can say you're a tight unit guys definitely appreciate it.
- 2:33:52Which makes it more fun. I think, you know, I think it
- 2:33:55definitely makes it more fun because.
- 2:33:57And even speaking to people that you know have been in the know
- 2:34:01or are in the know or were previously in the know, they
- 2:34:04still say the most fun is when they're at a show like AG Con
- 2:34:08event or something like that and they get to know in the crowd
- 2:34:14with all the people. Or even online in the live
- 2:34:16stream where you just see the chat blow up and you're the same
- 2:34:20and you're trying to figure out whether you like it or not.
- 2:34:22I mean, we mostly like it, you know, we're simple, but you
- 2:34:27still have to take a second look.
- 2:34:29It's a bit like when the figure obscura drops, we all just go by
- 2:34:33and then we go back and go, oh, it has this.
- 2:34:36Is there any parts? Oh, there's a new accessory, you
- 2:34:39know, So yeah, it's, it's, it's brilliant that it's kind of like
- 2:34:44that this year as as you know, and I loved last year because we
- 2:34:47kind of had an idea, but so we could do more guessing, not even
- 2:34:52going to guess this year, you know, as until we get more info,
- 2:34:55there's no point because we'll just look like idiots, a bigger
- 2:34:59idiots. Sorry.
- 2:34:59Literally could be anything. Yeah, yeah, it's.
- 2:35:06One of those things where we're just going to have to wait and
- 2:35:08see how it plays out and yeah, totally, yeah.
- 2:35:12Exactly. And then as regards so Armory,
- 2:35:15you're, you're obviously going to pick up what you can from
- 2:35:17there. I'm gonna try to, yeah.
- 2:35:19What's your what's your favorite color of the what's your color?
- 2:35:23That's what I last. What's your favorite color
- 2:35:26there, buddy? Yeah, that's what I asked my the
- 2:35:29kids get asked in, you know, first class in school or
- 2:35:31whatever. No.
- 2:35:32And what's your favorite of the the kind of color weights for
- 2:35:35the Armory? I like have.
- 2:35:39Did you guys see door Claire's photos?
- 2:35:41I did, yes. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:35:42We were actually just chatting about them among the three of us
- 2:35:46as well before we started. What do you think?
- 2:35:50Yeah, that gives you? I liked the red better because
- 2:35:52the red looked a bit more muted in the photo.
- 2:35:54He's took in the kind of, I suppose, just daylight or
- 2:35:58whatever kind of con lighting as opposed to studio lighting.
- 2:36:02So it was a little bit less reflective and cool.
- 2:36:07The build that took a photo of of the red 1 is the build I
- 2:36:11want, except maybe a slightly different helmet.
- 2:36:14So who? I'm like, yeah, yeah, definitely
- 2:36:16getting that then. Yeah, right.
- 2:36:20For for me, like I like, I like the red.
- 2:36:23I'm really more interested about the green now as well.
- 2:36:28But I think with like what Jeremy has been saying and like
- 2:36:32what a lot of people have been saying is that even though the
- 2:36:35prebuilt's are going to be coming, there's no guarantee
- 2:36:38that you may even be able to get those.
- 2:36:40So I'm not going to go with my favorite colors.
- 2:36:42This is something that I've been thinking about.
- 2:36:44I'm going for the pieces that I want to incorporate into
- 2:36:46customs. So yeah, 'cause like I have the
- 2:36:52the leather torso that that one that comes with like Bardric, I
- 2:36:56have that spray painted black right now.
- 2:37:00And that's been, it's been for a custom that I wanted.
- 2:37:02So it's like now I can just scrap that and I'm going to go
- 2:37:05for the black. So I'm going to go, I'm going to
- 2:37:08go for that. But I also like the brown
- 2:37:10leather too. So those may be my two that I go
- 2:37:14with. And if I'm able to do it on
- 2:37:17Sunday or if my girlfriend is willing to wait in the line and
- 2:37:22get a ticket for me to do 2, then I may have her do the two
- 2:37:25color ones. So then that way I can get the
- 2:37:29ones that I want for now. Yeah, yeah, there's something
- 2:37:32about that green leather colour that it's just really fun.
- 2:37:37I'm thinking go with the red build with the red leather and
- 2:37:41the green build with the green leather and do it that way
- 2:37:44myself. So yeah.
- 2:37:47Yeah, I I, I think because the cloth parts aren't in the ones
- 2:37:52that they're going to release post con next year, the cloth
- 2:37:56parts to me now become more interesting.
- 2:37:58I I was interested in them anyway, but I definitely think
- 2:38:02I'm going to try and get cloth parts with the different things.
- 2:38:05So as we were talking about this is the photos that Bill put up
- 2:38:11on door clear. So you see the red there?
- 2:38:13It looks it looks more towards the Vargas red in this lighting
- 2:38:20than what it did in the in the studio photos.
- 2:38:24So rubbish. I didn't.
- 2:38:26Mean the red leather. I meant the red cloth parts.
- 2:38:28It's the green leather one. I'm thinking of getting along
- 2:38:31with this. Yeah, so that's that one.
- 2:38:35There's the green, the green looks like it looks and it's
- 2:38:39it's awesome. I definitely have to.
- 2:38:41I'm very if I'm going to get one all metallic builds.
- 2:38:44It's the green one, I think. Yeah, I love it.
- 2:38:49Or Jade or whatever. And then this is purple.
- 2:38:51Is this the purple one? Yeah.
- 2:38:55I believe that's the purple. So this looks more like a tinted
- 2:38:59silver purple as opposed to fully purple purple.
- 2:39:05You know, like the Purple Gang gang might be thinking, you
- 2:39:08know, we wanted a bit more purple than that.
- 2:39:14Yeah, so and anything, any figures from the Horsemen table
- 2:39:19you'd be chasing down or are you you pretty up to date like the
- 2:39:22rest of us? Yeah, I'm pretty, I'm pretty up
- 2:39:25to date. I think really the only ones
- 2:39:27that I'd really be going for from the table unless there's
- 2:39:30surprises like what we talked about is the the show exclusive
- 2:39:33figures. Got you.
- 2:39:35They're a musket. Yeah, for sure.
- 2:39:37Yeah, otherwise it'll just be unpainted 3.
- 2:39:40D parts, Painted parts? What about some more skeleton
- 2:39:45skeletal ninja builders? Or it does.
- 2:39:47Yeah, you you'll definitely what what I, yeah, if I was to, you
- 2:39:52know, say, OK, now as we have a table, a vendor table so we can
- 2:39:57go to the horsemen on the Saturday evening after the show,
- 2:40:01that's our time to go and get stuff.
- 2:40:03If they did have a bunch of the figures that we can only get
- 2:40:06direct from the horsemen. So like either figure obscuras
- 2:40:10or you know, the legion builders or the you know the skeleton
- 2:40:12legion builder, etcetera. Those would be the ones I'd go
- 2:40:16more towards than the ones say my local retailer here in Europe
- 2:40:19has that I could always scoop up at, you know, 45 euro, $50, you
- 2:40:25know, whatever might be cosmic red jet or whatever.
- 2:40:28So they're the ones I definitely go to, right?
- 2:40:31I have space in my suitcase for five or six figures to bring
- 2:40:34home on top of the show exclusives, which as you say
- 2:40:39must get. I'd be looking for the ones that
- 2:40:41can get direct and for example, I'll def if they have
- 2:40:45Frankenstein there, I'll definitely pick one up
- 2:40:47completely RIP it out-of-the-box, get the coat and
- 2:40:53pull apart all the other bits and then go to the pop and swap
- 2:40:56a bent with the bits I don't need on top of my butter.
- 2:41:00You know, So that's, that's the other thing.
- 2:41:01If you are looking for figures for parts and you, you say,
- 2:41:04well, I can definitely get a skeleton, whatever.
- 2:41:06If you don't need all the other bits, you know, just take, put
- 2:41:10them in your tray. So, so I can see people doing
- 2:41:13that where they get figures at the show or even the show
- 2:41:17exclusive figures. Imagine that, Atlas said.
- 2:41:19I can imagine that showing up at the pop and swap event, a few
- 2:41:22people going there like I have this last list said that I don't
- 2:41:25want, but I know a lot of people want it and I like all these
- 2:41:28other dwarf parts over here or something, you know that that
- 2:41:32are hard to get, you know, dwarf upper legs, for example, or just
- 2:41:36dwarf legs in general. They are, you know, they're
- 2:41:40valuable and forearms I've. Actually been stocking up.
- 2:41:44Oh, there you go little honey trap there for for the toy forge
- 2:41:51and the Kings under the mountain.
- 2:41:54I love it. I love it.
- 2:41:55And then one more thing to get us out of here tonight.
- 2:42:00Then what? What figures are you?
- 2:42:03I mean, you're a skeleton guys, this is a pretty easy question.
- 2:42:05What figures are you looking forward to mostly coming in the
- 2:42:08next year or two? You know the ones we have on
- 2:42:10pre-order. What's the top top few figures
- 2:42:13there? What you got to shout out?
- 2:42:17Necronominus, of course. Maxillus just to have that other
- 2:42:22skeleton body. Yeah, with the with the
- 2:42:25different torso, Yeah, that's cool.
- 2:42:29Tarpiculi, just because of all the different things that you
- 2:42:32can do with that thing. And I think outside of those,
- 2:42:42the kipacha, I really, I really did.
- 2:42:47He's cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:42:50That ashes about Bender wave is going it's going to blow up
- 2:42:52again once it gets in hand. I think, you know, I think it
- 2:42:56came at a very busy time this year with the with the head, the
- 2:43:00surprise boxes and that all this stuff.
- 2:43:03And I think people had different expectations of that wave than
- 2:43:06what turned out. But in hindsight, it's a really
- 2:43:08great wave and we're going to love it as we get it in hand.
- 2:43:12So yeah, Kai Patch is a great shot.
- 2:43:15Yeah. And what about skeleton horse
- 2:43:17cannabis? He's.
- 2:43:19It's like I like it. Like I have nothing against it.
- 2:43:22It's just the only thing that I have against really any of it is
- 2:43:25space. So like when it comes to like
- 2:43:27the bigger, the bigger stuff. So it's like that'll probably be
- 2:43:30the only horse that I have actually out on display when it,
- 2:43:34when it does come out. Because like right now I don't,
- 2:43:38I don't have any of them out. I don't have any of the trolls
- 2:43:41out. Myspace is very limited.
- 2:43:44So I've I've been thinking I need to do it.
- 2:43:46I need to like just like rotate stuff out is what I needed to
- 2:43:49just to kind of refresh it. That's that sort of thing that
- 2:43:53that takes. You know that curation thing
- 2:43:56that takes a bit of effort and that's all well and good until
- 2:44:00it's not working and then it can get a bit of frustrating.
- 2:44:02So I definitely feed you there. Yeah, the horses, they're the
- 2:44:07best action figure horses you can get.
- 2:44:09But as you say, tricky with space sometimes, you know, you
- 2:44:14have to, I could put, I could put 4 figures on this space in
- 2:44:17the shadow for one horse with the guy on top of it.
- 2:44:20So you have to kind of make that call sometimes.
- 2:44:22Same with the trolls, right, Chris?
- 2:44:24Well, that was a great chat and looking forward to the pop and
- 2:44:28swap event and looking forward to mostly seeing you and your
- 2:44:33better half, of course. And can't wait another as we
- 2:44:40talk now another I'd say 2 1/2 weeks, you call it fair and
- 2:44:44probably another week when this is released.
- 2:44:46So exciting times we're. Getting there, we're almost.
- 2:44:50There. Cheers, Chris.
- 2:44:53Cheers, John. Cheers now thank.
- 2:44:55You cheers,
