- 0:03SPEAKER_01: The long burn.
- 0:06SPEAKER_02: Hey, welcome back to the long burn.
- 0:08SPEAKER_02: This is Joel Mallon.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: Last week we had a great conversation with Corey Golding, and the conversation was so good that we split it into two parts.
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: So this is the remainder of that conversation with Corey Golding from Greenville, South Carolina.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: Hope you guys enjoy.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: So how how how did we handle that, manage that growth with this growth of a family, too?
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, I it certainly takes a strong woman, yes, absolutely.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: But kind of how did you handle that internally as a dad, as a husband, as a business owner?
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, I guess this would depend who you ask.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Um I think at times very healthily and at times very unhealthily.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I think when you go into something, and I and I didn't have like a five-year plan, 10-year plan.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: It was, like you said, just sort of like a side hustle.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: And then it became real.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Um, and then I would say the real growth happened about two and a half years ago.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: We were we were coming home from Australia and we owned one piece of property.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: And I told Morgan, I said, I don't know why, I said, but by the end of the year, I want to own three pieces of property.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: So I don't know how we're gonna get there, I don't know how we're gonna do it.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Uh, but I want to own three pieces of property.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: We bought our first house uh outside of the one that we are currently actually back living in.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: But we built this first one.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: We were living in it at the time.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: We bought a house to renovate, and it was a dump.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, there was cat piss through the whole house, it was terrible.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Um, and it had an extra half acre with it.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: So we bought both of those.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So I had my three properties.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: If you've not been in Jonathan's house, it's the same as man.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: I got too many cats.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: There's so many cats.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: We had five cats at one point.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Oh no, Jonathan.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: It did not smell bad though.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: It did not.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: No, but that's too many cats.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: It's too many cats.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: That's too many cats.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: That's a lot of cats.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, and so we bought that and um I really enjoyed renovating it, flipping it.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: We actually moved into it for a couple of years, sold off the half acre of property, had turned our house that was brand new into a uh Airbnb, and we actually moved out of this house because we moved into it two days before we found out we're pregnant with Emmy.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: And and we did our nursery, and we just got to the point where it was just too much.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And after she had passed, we were still here for probably another six to 12 months, but we just were like, we just need a fresh start.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: We just had Addy, um, our second, and so we moved into this house, we renovated and lived there for two years, which was which was a great thing.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: But I really loved the renovation process, and that's when I went to my buddy who was like, Hey, can you take me under your wing to do the two years I need to go sit in front of the commission?
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: And I'm and I'm you know, still landscaping while renovating this house, and that was still going really well.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: It was nothing crazy busy, but it was going well.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: And I was like, man, I want to go build houses, renovate houses.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: So that's when the two sort of joined.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Um in the same time, we we purchased a house downtown and the house that Jonathan actually just bought, renovated both of them, sold off the one downtown, kept the one here to turn into an Airbnb.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Uh, and at in that time, I got our first real big landscape job that ended up being almost$400,000 in landscaping.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: And we took an acre property, tore it down to dirt, and rebuilt it from the dirt up.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, irrigation systems that were on every single vegetable box, like in his veggie garden.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Um, he had a hundred over a hundred thousand dollars in plants.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: I mean, just it was amazing.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: We did the driveways, we did bluestone patios, gas lots.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was just it was amazing.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: It was beautiful.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: And we're actually we'll actually post that on our website here in a little bit.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: We got some really cool footage of it this summer uh because it's starting to really mature.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Um, and so in that time, I mean, I I'm still sort of goalless, but I just have all these things going on.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Um and you know, battling the grief too of losing my daughter.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Um and so I probably didn't think about what health looks like um during that.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Um, and then we took on another project to build a house.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And so I have all this, I mean, I I I I I'm getting confused even talking about it.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Like I just had so much going on um that we got to when we sold the house that we first renovated two and a half, three years ago, it was July or August, we sold it last year.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: And I just felt like I just needed some time to like just rest and relax.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: So we sold that one in August, put the other one on the Airbnb that we actually moved into for a couple of months until all the Airbnb guests were out of the house we currently live in, they're all the bookings, and then we put that one on the market.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: And so I went from like five properties down to one in four months, wow, um, with koala care still growing exponentially, you know.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I think health health-wise, actually just having the humility to go, I can't do all this.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: Like there, there's there's no way I can keep handling all this and be a dad and a husband, which is my main priority.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I think I don't know if I necessarily manage the growth well.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I think I've learned a lot through the growth.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: And uh would probably redo it in some different ways, but you can't turn back time.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And so just how do you go forward with that?
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Um, which this year, the last 12 months, I would say, post finishing that really big project, you know, we went from three, four hundred thousand dollars a year with me and a couple of guys to well over a million and now even more this year, um, in the space of two years.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: And that's a lot of growth for a company.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: That's huge.
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: Um that's a lot of rocks in Australia, isn't it?
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: A lot of rocks in Australia.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of houses.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Um, so but the problem is I wouldn't have the equipment to do one of these two.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: So um, yeah, so I I don't think to answer your question, there's a lot of unhealthy, like I wasn't feeding myself well, you know, um, and I and I fluctuate weight like crazy.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: I go real, like a lot, lose a bunch, get heavy, lose a bunch, that's not healthy.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Um, and then a boxer's diet.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just wait for the fight.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it feels like it sometimes, you know, and even now I'm back in sort of a decline because I had to go get some things looked at.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: I thought I was having a stroke a few months back, but it was just a migraine, and really it's just not eating enough food and then just fooling myself with sugar and carbs, and just like it just I just had and I know how to eat healthy, I know how to work out.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: I've run Iron Man's and You just don't.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: I just don't because like there's just more things that are in my mind more important, you know.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: I don't think you're alone in that.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: I think everybody knows the right thing to eat, the right level of exercise or activity.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: We just don't prioritize it, you know, until and that's the thing is like it's not a problem until it's a problem.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so people wait until it's a problem to finally do something about it, and then the amount of work it takes to get you back to a manageable level, sometimes it's insurmountable for a lot of people.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: So they just don't do it.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: And and I think that's been the big thing over the last two or three months is I just got I had to get to a point where I was like, if my body keeps feeling like this and I keep looking like this, I'm gonna literally I had a uh we go see this.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Um she's a homeopathic doctor, so I don't know if that fits your vibe, Jonathan, or not.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: But very, very much uh nutrition-based, like food and like what hormones are out.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: And I've never had doctors like do any of this stuff.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: And she she essentially told me about a month ago that if you keep going at the the rate that you're going at, you'll be the guy that has a heart attack at 40.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: And um, and she's like, I I'm just telling you that straight because I don't want you to be that.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: And she she works with Morgan too, uh, my wife, with a she's had some liver stuff, and so we we love her, she's amazing.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: And she had to tell me that.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: And so, really, four weeks ago, I was like, okay, what do I need to do to just move back in the right direction?
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: And she took a butt of a bunch of blood samples and um figured out a few things hormonally, and then just you know, my my nutrition just she's ultimately, I think what was happening is I was not feeding myself, so anything I did eat was just storing.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that was just putting so much pressure.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: I was I mean, the amount of times Morgan has smacked me in the night for snoring because I'm just you know I'm just unhealthy.
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: And uh I would even say the last four weeks, she's like, your snoring has like cut in half.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: And you know, I've I've stopped eating sugar and and all the things and uh started walking, and I love Iron Man's The Triathlon World.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: And she's like, I think those days are over for you right now because it's too much cortisol.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: You just need to go lift weight and walk and and eat healthy, and your body will fix itself.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: And I think we don't, yeah, I think we do wait till it's a problem, but we also don't give our body enough credit.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: Our body heals like well, and and we just gotta feed it the right things, you know.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Um, so I don't know if that's a long-winded answer to your health and unhealthy growth.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: Is with the goal of that next baby, that's what you're talking about, right?
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: I want to I want to be out of, I want to be able to outcrawl my next child.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: So gross that your wife doesn't want to have another kid, right?
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: It's enough to have a mullet.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: It's a main, it's a main target, the moving target here.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Well, and she she gets really mad because every time she gets pregnant, I go on a health kick to lose weight, and she feels terrible at herself.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: She's like, Okay, so now that I'm not pregnant, let's do this together.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and so that I won't feel terrible next time.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: So she's her belly's sticking out, and you're like, hey, what do you think about my skin?
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: She's like, I'm gonna throat punch you.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Always.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: Always.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: So but I think I think that's great because I mean you clearly, I mean, uh with the house building stuff, I'm sure you have a a one, three, five, ten-year plan kind of kind of stuff now.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: And I think that now you have the opportunity to do it differently than you did before, right?
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: And I think that's the beauty of it.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's what we've talked about throughout this, is that we've we've got these opportunities to to do better, to learn learn those lessons and and not make those mistakes again, whether that's business, health, you know, relationship-wise.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: And I think that's what's gonna be fun to watch.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be fun to watch you take off and physically take care of yourself as well.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: And that's gonna make you even more dominating.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Joel, we've already core and I've talked, we're taking over the entire short-term rental scene in Greenville.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: We're playing real life monopoly.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: That's what we keep doing.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: That's if you need any custom furniture, that's about the best input I'll go for you.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: I know, we gotta get you up there.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: You can make custom pieces.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: Corey's not gonna be able to build the houses.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: See, we're we're gonna do it.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: We're gonna do it.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: We're having fun doing it for sure.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: And the other thing I'll just add to the health is not just physical, like I I probably had to learn, and and you know, I was thinking about this before coming on, just the lessons that I have learned, even just in the last 12 months.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: And um I think that often as business owners, we have this no one can do it as good as us, no one cares as much as us, you know, which is a great mentality to have until you realize it's actually a pretty arrogant mentality to have.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: And the last 12 months, um, I've had to fire people and I've had to hire people.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: And and I think I've gotten rid of the people I needed to uh in order for my business to go to the next level.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Um, but I've hired the people that I trust that like love koala care, love my assistant Shannon, she's amazing.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: Um, she really is just she she her her uh youngest child just graduated high school.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: She's she loves all the design stuff, she's doing HR, she's doing everything for me, and she just loves it.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: Um and it's just so rare to find someone who cares that much.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Um, and then I've got another guy who's uh essentially my right-hand man who just is he's 23, wants to learn, just high character, already married.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Um, and I've told him multiple times, it's not about your skill level, it's about your character.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: I can teach you skill, I can't teach you character.
- 11:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Um, and so I think having the humility to realize like Corey doesn't have to be it.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: Um, I can be the visionary and I can go do all the you know the things to sell work and and get the next bit of equipment we need and make the next deal, but I don't have to be doing all that and installing and doing this and doing HR and all of it, and it just wears down to where I'm not a healthy dad and husband.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: Well, you're you're building a business and not a job.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: And that's yes, that's what I think you you you're seeing and you're doing what others need to do because otherwise you'll just build yourself a job you grow to hate because you're having to do everything.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: No, this is awesome, man.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, and I think it just was a big um humbling moment to realize like Corey, Corey's not.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: I just hired a guy a week ago who's he's got a residential home building license, he's built pools for four years, he wants to go do his, he was building for a company, he wants to go do his own thing, he's built millions of dollars worth of houses.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: Um, he's a good friend of mine, and it's very humbling hiring someone older than you that you know is better than you, that is really talented.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Um, but I'm so I don't know how long I'll have him for because he wants he's trying to build his own pool company and I want him to go do that because he'll be amazing at it.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: Uh he can buy pools at our houses, it'll be great.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: That's exactly right.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: And and he wants to stay with me building houses because that's what he was doing.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: Um and so he's project managing a lot of um big projects for me and will over the next few months.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: And I just think just getting to the end of yourself and realizing you don't have to do it all.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: You you just have to be the visionary that can cast vision and go do it, and then hire the people that are just as talented or care as much or have high character.
- 13:08SPEAKER_02: Well, and I think that gets to the root of you know what's the motivation behind that mindset.
- 13:13SPEAKER_02: And I think there is some pride behind it for sure, but it's also a lot of fear.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: The fear of if I look away for a moment, everything's gonna fall apart.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, and so you know, if if we are going back to a spiritual perspective, um, humility and fear are both things, you know, that are addressed uh spiritually and everything.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: Absolutely, you know, that we've not been given a spirit of fear, but of power and a love and a sound mind, you know, and the humility, you know, of Christ to sacrifice himself for others.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: But what's funny is is, and I bring that up specifically because a lot of times that's what we think we're doing.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: I'm just gonna do as I'm just gonna be a giver for everybody else, and I'm gonna sacrifice.
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: Nobody asked you to sacrifice that.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: Nobody asked you to crucify yourself, and then you're waiting for their appreciation when then you're giving them something that like your family does not want you to kill yourself for them.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they want you around, you know.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: But then whenever you're working, let's say 80, 90 hours a week and they're like, I'm never appreciated around you.
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: They never wanted that, you know, they didn't want the houses or the money, they want you.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: And so I think we we get that screwed up a lot because we think we're giving people what they want.
- 14:15SPEAKER_02: In reality, we're getting what we want for ourselves, for our ego.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: Yep, yeah.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: And if you would ask Morgan again, I'm telling you, you should interview a wife because she would say that.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: She's she said that to me multiple times.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: I don't care about the money, I don't care about the wealth.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Um, and you know, I think there's part of it for me that I've had to realize and wade through is just uh I didn't come from money, I didn't come from wealth.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: Um, you came from Australia, right?
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: I did come from Australia, which is great, which is great.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: Uh but there's not a lot of money going on, you know, in a lot of places.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: So and and what I grew up in a little town of 1,500 people.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: Um there's just the economy is just not there, you know.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: My dad's a sheep shear, a farmer.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: My mom, and I'm thankful for this.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: She was a stay-at-home mum, and and and I wouldn't change that for the world.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: Um, but I know that's put a lot of stress on dad, and I think I can not grip tight to money, but maybe just the security of having this job and having this business and and income is coming in because it we didn't we never missed out.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: We always went on vacation and whatever, but we've lived in the same house our whole life.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: We you know, but we never had excess.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: And my wife comes from an incredible amount of excess.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: Um, very wealthy businessman in her family, her dad, her mom.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, they're all they're all loaded.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: And um the amount of time she's looked at me like I don't care about these things, right?
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: I care about having you with our kids for as long as the Lord will give you.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: And and and I want that in a healthy state, not, you know, you're tired, you're unhealthy, you can't move, you're lazy, you know, all these things when you're home.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: Uh, and I think she puts it best when she says, I don't want the seconds, I want Corey.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: Like I want the best of Corey.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: And and the people out there, sorry Jonathan, but the customers, they can have your seconds.
- 15:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: And that's got to be good enough for them because I I need you here.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, and that's that's also a bit humbling because you know, you think you're strong enough to carry all of it and you know, keep everyone happy.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: And we just almost back to like the we only have enough bandwidth to know 57 people well or whatever is Shepard 97, like whatever that number is.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, whatever that number is.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, Jesus only had 12 disciples, you know, and so it's like there, it's a very the bandwidth is way less than what we think, I think, and we try to just power through it, and that's not always the healthiest way, you know.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I think that's great.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: It's called the right.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: So just to clarify, it's called Dunbar's number.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: And it it says proposes limit is roughly 150 total individuals.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: So I was incorrect about the number, but still.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: So Dunbar's number.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: Which is funny because I say that to people all the time.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: I think treasures shouldn't be more than 150.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: That that's just like that's the number that's in my head.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: So that's interesting.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Well, sociologically, I mean you're spot on.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: And and and I think I think you can almost throw pastors into the same realm as business owners.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: They think they have to keep everyone happy, do everyone's work for them.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: You know, they're running a corporation, they're not running a church.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: And I think I just when you see the burnout in pastors, I feel like that would probably be very similar to the burnout in business owners.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Just because they're trying to keep everything similar.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: You know, and I think that in today's society that's to some extent necessary, you know, because I think if a church did not operate with some of the same, you know, policies and and uh structure as a business, it would be illegal or unethical.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: In a lot of aspects, and a lot of inaccountability or no accountability, yeah.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: And it goes back to the motivation thing.
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: Like, why are you doing these things?
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: Are you doing this to stay legal and ethical, or are you doing this to boost numbers or gain monetary power?
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: You know, and and and that's between them and God, to be completely honest.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: It's not my job to call that out or change it necessarily.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I think I think you've got a good perspective.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: I think it's we often think we need to do more than what we're actually called to do.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: And at the end of the day, the Lord will be just, He will sort it out, you know, and it's not a good thing.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: We try to do God's job for him, and that's when we get burned out.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: I'm not capable of doing that now.
- 18:03SPEAKER_02: Like you've seen you've seen Bruce Almighty.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: Uh yes, he wants he's God for a day and he just says yes to everybody's prayer, and it's like complete chaos.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: Like, I think about that all the time because anytime I think I have control or influence over something, I'm just like, nope, I'd screw it up.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'd screw it up pretty bad.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, I mean, we we we get asked all the time, like, how do you believe God is good and you lost a child?
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: And I my response is I mean, I one, I wouldn't change the fact that I'm Emmy's dad.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: But two, like, who am I?
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: It's the same thing.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: The joy that you had a child.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: She made me a father, you know.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: And you still have what three other children?
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Three other kids, and I get to talk about Emmy and I get to talk about all my kids, and but I but the biggest thing I tell people is, who am I to question God?
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: Like, sure, I I couldn't, I would we would be buried under the weight of trying to control this world and the chaos.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: What's like if you gave me a bag of Kiwis?
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: You like that reference.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: You gave me a bag of Kiwis and one of them was bad, and I was just like, Corey sucks.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Like, what about the rest of the bag of Kiwis, man?
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Like, come on.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: Well, and and the grief that we have over Emmy, like, is definitely suffering we will feel forever.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: But it's but it's grief for us, like she's in a she's in eternal, like, she is where I want to be.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, and in some ways, grief is selfish in some ways, um, because like you're wishing those people back, and it's like, I don't want her back.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: She's she is she is in the arms of Jesus, she's where like she needs to be.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: We just suffer through that for for the rest of our lives.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: And nobody's not.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: But then if we're selfish, then God's selfish.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Well, he he he can be whatever he wants.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: He wants us with him as well, you know.
- 19:44SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: Love draws people towards you.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: Love yearns for people.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, if you didn't, you would not have great loss had you not had great love.
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, beauty and pain exist in the same space, and that is very next to impossible for our human brains to conceive.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: Yep, yeah, yeah.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: And I think if you haven't walked through suffering, we're walking through James at church right now, and and like, and if he listens to this, he knows I love him, so he'll be fine.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: But my pastor used uh used uh the stomach bug as suffering.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: Uh, and I'm like, dude, like, come on, there's stomach bug, like, dude, you're gonna poop your pants and like call it suffering.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: Like, give me a break, you know.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Uh suffering is like truly like losing something you can't, you know.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: And that and losing her just taught me, I have I don't have the control I think I have.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: It humbled me.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: You know, I asked my wife, she really, and and even to this day we have questions, obviously.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: But um, it was about six months in, she was pregnant again.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: And I said, Um, you know, if if you could change it, would you just bring would we just go back and never have Emmy?
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: She just would never be part of our life.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: And she was really struggling with is God good?
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah and uh she said no, and I said, Why?
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: And she said, Because I love being Emmy's mom.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: And I said, Well, then you can't say God's not good.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: Yep, because he was good enough to make you her mom.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: Yep, and she he chose you out of everyone to be her mom and you get to tell her story forever.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: We will suffer, yes.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: We'll be in pain, yes.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: But we have hope, and there is joy that comes even from the death of a child.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: Um, and so yeah, I mean, oh my god.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: We've chosen to find purpose in the pain.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: Because pain without any purpose is just suffering.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, absolutely.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: And it's it's endless, unnecessary suffering.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: And so I love hearing people's uh kind of explanation.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: Here's the thing did God reveal that to you, or is that something that y'all decided?
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: You know, because God doesn't always give us the reason.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: He wants to know like, are you gonna still pursue and cling to me and have faith and find purpose in this?
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: Are you waiting for me to write it down on a golden tablet for you?
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: You know?
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think that that's where the real growth occurs is when we find that purpose for ourselves and then persevere through it.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: Well, like it says in Giants, faith without works, you know, is it's dead.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: And then without we don't have faith, we don't do and it's not a legalistic approach, but like there is an active part of us that has to learn and grow and move and take steps and Have faith, and I think people get really comfortable here in America, particularly in the in the American church.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: It's a lot of comfortability sitting in the pews and uh and not necessarily a lot of faith.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: So well, and then so you may not be as familiar with this, but it's funny growing up in the south, like I'm originally from Tennessee, but I've also lived I've I was up in New York and I was in the Army, I was in Georgia, Florida, like I've I've lived pr up and down the east coast a little bit, but growing up primarily in the south, you know, everybody talks about southern hospitality, like oh bless you all, you know, like oh do you deal?
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: You know, do you want some sweet tea?
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: You know, like all this other stuff.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: And and so it's so funny to me because like your your spiritual affiliation is a social status, it's not necessarily a belief system.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: You know, and yeah, it's like so the question is not do you believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God?
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: The question is where do you go to church?
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah, and I'm like, well, hold on, that doesn't necessarily answer anything except what you do on Sundays, you know?
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so like it's so interesting to me that you ask something beyond where you go to church, you know, uh there's nothing there.
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: There's there's no belief, there's no explanation, there's no testimony, and and that's always something that just irked me.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: Well, that's why I love these conversations because I'm like, yes, let's talk about it.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: You know, well, and I was part of a church that has like stature here in Greenville, like I mean, has real weight, and it's almost like people uh they like claim as like a badge of honor because they go to that church.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: It's like, man, I I just it's such a dangerous game to play.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: But people here's the thing is people want a sense of belonging.
- 23:30SPEAKER_02: So I'm not a sports guy.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: Are you sports would you watch American sports or anything like that?
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: I know you said you played in back in Australia.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: So it's like there that like my brother, he vented about this years ago.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: He lived in Arkansas, and he would get so so sick of hearing people say, This year the Razorbacks are gonna win it all, man.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: We're gonna take it all this year, I swear, you know?
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: And then whenever they they would lose, they would say, Next year's our year, and I'm telling you, next year.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: And I'm just like, and so that's like we won.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: We I'm like, We, what did you do?
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: You sat and drank beer and ate Cheetos and watched TV.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: Where's this we coming from?
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: You know, so I I I've never, and I was homeschooled, so I've never I've never understood that that connection or affiliation with the weeness of sports, but it's belonging, you know, it's it's acceptance, it's affiliation, it's all these other things.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: And people, if they if they find that not only in sports, you also find that in religion.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, and I think that that for a lot of people, maybe even unknowingly, that's what they're pursuing is the belonging without the understanding.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and and the belonging, the pursuit of the belonging brings such an inauthentic relationship to it because you're more worried about what you can get out of it.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: Um well, the truth is you already belong.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: You don't have to join a church to belong.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: You already do.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but we've we've we've put Christian faith to the four walls of a church on a Sunday morning.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: That's just so much more than that.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: If it's if it ain't no steeple, Jesus ain't there, I'm telling you.
- 24:52unknown: Yeah.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: I'm just waiting for a church to have real wine for communion, you know.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: That ain't happening here.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: I can tell you that.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: Well, if you if you convert to Catholicism, I mean you can have your wish pretty quick.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: I I love I'm a bourbon collector, a big bourbon guy, which I just I collect more than I drink.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: I don't drink at all really, but I just love collecting.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: And I have tattoos and I had piercings, and my wife's family is as southern as it gets, and I am shocked that I'm still allowed to attend Thanksgiving every November.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Okay, what was Jesus' first miracle?
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: Turning water into wine.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: Booyah.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: So and he had piercings too, by the way.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: He it's not that it's bad, it's just don't get drunk, it's all it is, you know.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: It's uh um, but it's it's just I'm s I just have I didn't realize coming here.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: It's so funny because I'm white, I speak English, everyone just thinks we're the same.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: And it's like I actually think there's a bigger cultural divide between me and a lot of people here than maybe Mexicans and Americans, you know, um, or you know, someone from you it's just it's just so different.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: And I think the hardest part that I found was because I looked like a lot of people here, it just was like, oh, he must just fit in.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: And when it came to church, work ethic, and all that, it's just uh just very different, you know.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: Well, and that's that's a thing with the the first moment we lay eyes on somebody, we're creating a box for them to live in our brain.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, and whenever somebody, you know, we think we know these things, and when they say something that doesn't fit with the box, well, now I don't know what to do with you.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, and so like growing up in the South, you know, being of whatever skin color, whatever faith, whatever, you know, denomination, stuff like that, people want you in their box.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: Because when you say things that that don't fit in the box they've created, they they kind of reject you or they cast you out, or something like that.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: But I mean, I don't care what your differences are with skin, race, culture, beliefs, anything like that, you have far more in common with anyone you've ever met than you have dissimilar from them.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: And that is true about every single person on the planet.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: There is more that you have in common with them that's than this what's dissimilar.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and we uh I I've never lived in a place that has so many labels for everything.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: And I'm it's just and I think the labels are what causes, even in like the church world, like you know, Calvinism versus Armenianism, and it's just like what I didn't even know those things were real.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: I didn't even know they existed until I moved, I moved here, and then you got you know the whole race war here, and it's like well you'd understand it if you were predestined.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well um well, yeah, so I like I didn't even like it's just everything has a label, and and and it's like man, it just doesn't need to be like that, yeah, you know.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Um so yes, it's unique being white English speaking male living in this country that's not American because you get put in a lot of boxes that aren't real, you know.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: Um and then the boxes you get put in you don't even understand because I'm not even from here.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: So I didn't know that was in the rules.
- 27:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I didn't hey like I mean there you go.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, I was gonna say there was one time that you text me and said, Hey man, and I was like, Who stole your phone?
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: You know, because it's he always writes hey mate, you know, and and so he said, Hey man, I was like, nope, nope.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: And you you read it with an accent.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: I hear you say it every time you text me.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: I was like, that's not him.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Who stole his phone?
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I get it.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so yeah, it's just even more.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, we've been married eight, nine years, and we still find words and things that are just uh, you know, and then I've got a four-year-old girl who calls our neighbor Bill.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: I'm like, there's two syllables in that word.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: That sounds like green milk thing.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: It's just it's just like it's just it's and it's fun, you know, but it it is interesting just coming here and so many labels, man.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: It's just like golly, I just don't think it has to be that complicated.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: And that was, I think I've I've I think that was the last podcast we did where I was venting about the idea of uniformity, that we want uniformity in job descriptions and outcomes, but we want to embrace diversity in every other aspect.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: And I'm just like, no, like cater to the diversity of what this person can deliver, not only what you want from them, they may be capable of delivering far more value if you allow them to, instead of creating a box and trapping them in it.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, which is, I mean, I try to do that with my guys.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: Like, I just uh and that's part of the probably the the lesson I've learned in the humility piece of just being able to let go and like I don't have to control it because they actually may be more, I may be holding them back um from actually their capability because I'm you know micromanaging them or only giving them certain roles because I'm worried about what if they do this, you know.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: And I I just think there's you know that comes down to us putting people in boxes again, just like they can all do that, so they can't do this, you know.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: Well, Jonathan, we've made it to an hour.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: We have this is the best.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: This was the quickest hour and the longest podcast we've done.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: Like, this was such a great conversation, Corey.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: It's been such a great uh opportunity to talk with you.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: Well, I appreciate it.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: I'm sure you'll have uh a lot of 60-year-old divorced women listening to this podcast because that's because you're my my clientele.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: There we go.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: All they want to do is hear me talk.
- 30:08SPEAKER_02: So they say, Well, how big are my groceries?
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I have I have some clients calling me at 10 o'clock at night to help figure out their fridge.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, I'm a landscaper, I didn't put your fridge in, you know.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, we just wanted to hear you say something.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: That's like always, I'm like, it's 10 o'clock at night, ma'am.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: Can I go to bed?
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: You know, so yeah, but I appreciate y'all having me on.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: But that's that goes back to the character thing is someone who knows that you have a willingness and a desire to help.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: But I think the challenge of that is is also saying no when you need to.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, you know, and and being understanding of like sometimes you do have to disappoint people, and you're not letting them down.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: You're disappointing them, you're not letting them down because you were never obligated to do it to begin with.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it's hard to embrace that in the moment.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: Changing the priorities in my mind that like my family is my priority, and you can get in line.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: Like my family's fridge is gonna be working first, girl.
- 31:00SPEAKER_02: But yeah.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: So we was I was thinking with the firing line questions.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you want to bypass those today because we're we're uh so so long.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: I don't know what your call was on that one, Jonathan.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: I was reading through them.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: Um, but I mean I I I think he can probably do one sentence for most of these because I think we've we talked touched on both of them.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: I'm sure we have.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, what's a failure that cost you more than money and what did it change about how you operate today?
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm gonna answer that one pretty quick.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: I I hired a guy who actually is, you know, was a friend, and um I got told by another colleague who's you know close to me that he doesn't need to work for you about nine months ago.
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: He's disrespectful and rude and doesn't appreciate your leadership.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: And I held on to him for eight more months.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: Um and it cost me money, sure, but um you know I I always tell people it's a it's addition by subtraction.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: Um and he just didn't have the same the respect for my leadership and then also just the drive and the values and and I I hired him because he could run machinery and I thought that meant leadership.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: And being on a drive and excavator doesn't mean leadership.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: Um machines don't talk back, they don't talk back and they always show up.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, they're never hung over.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: It's amazing.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: So yeah, probably probably just uh misidentifying uh leadership when it wasn't there.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: All right, what belief did you have to unlearn to keep growing without burning out?
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think I've said it just that I don't have to do it all.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: Um being able to to let go of you know a lot of a lot of even just small things.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: I just thought I had to have control over everything.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: Um and I actually asked this question to Shannon, uh my assistant, I was like, What do you what do you think?
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: And she said, From January to now, watching you be able to delegate and let go and actually let people do it has been the biggest growth she has seen.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: So at least other people in the company are seeing it.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: And I think there's a three-part um growth to that because it's like I don't have to do everything.
- 33:02SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't need to do everything, and finally I don't want to do everything.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: You know, because sometimes it's that letting go of you still want to do it to have that control, you know, and I think it's a three-part growth period.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: Yep, yeah, so that for sure.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: And then what does success look like in this season of life, not five years ago?
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Taking over Greenville, right?
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: Trying to be trying trying to earn more Airbnbs than Jonathan honestly is uh that would be success.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: No, I'm one and done for a little while.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I mean, the business is great, but it's not my end goal and never has been, never will be.
- 33:37SPEAKER_00: And I think just being the best dad, uh, best husband, more than even the best dad, and then and then best Christ follower I can be.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: Um I know it sounds so cliche, but uh I'm radical about my faith, I'm unashamed about it, and um my relationship with the Lord is so important to me that if that's if that's failing, then everything else is is is not even close to worth it.
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: Um and then you know, just I think if I could be selfish for a little bit, it just would be like prayer that the the company keeps growing and that I keep you know being successful uh in that way, but never losing sight of of what's really important.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: Um because I would love to leave something for my kids that they that my I mean Shep's two years old and he can already drive an excavator and he loves he loves the machinery and and all of it.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: And I just the thought I think we have the last 50 or 60 years, maybe 100 years, we've lost the ability to be generationally minded.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Um, it's too individualistic.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: So individualistic.
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: And I I I just I don't desire or love money.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: And so my like the thing that brings me joy in the business is okay, maybe in 30 years, my son will, 20 years, my son will run this, you know.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: Uh, or my son-in-laws that marry my daughters, you know.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: Uh, and then just the guys that are around me, how what how can this business bless them and their families?
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: Um, and so yeah, I mean, success right now looks like growing in the Lord and being a good husband and an intentional father, um, but also, you know, from a business perspective, growing that to when I'm long gone and in the ground and and in eternity, that there's there's still koalas driving around on trucks uh in Greenville, South Carolina, you know.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: Across the nation at that point, right?
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: Across the nation, that's important.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: But you know, it's it's funny because it's like if if Corey goes, like there has to be another.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Like my guys, I've got five Guatemalan guys that work for me, and they just call me koala.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: They say, Hey koala, come here.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, we gotta have another koala, you know, there's gotta be another Australian guy that just like is is the brand, you know.
- 35:40SPEAKER_02: You should you should do something for kids, like teach them some of the skills that you haven't called was it quaka care?
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, quaka care and do it for like little kids and like show them how to do the ropes on that stuff.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: That I'll probably make more money being a YouTube success.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: I'm telling you, dude.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so but yeah, I just you know, being a good father and husband is is the ultimate success, you know.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's awesome, man.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, I like to say how you do one thing is how you do everything, and and I really think you embody that.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: I I think you're passionate about every aspect of your life.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: Um, and I I think your you know your priorities in the right order too, and that's that's phenomenal to see.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: And I I don't doubt that you're gonna you know to dominate the next five years, ten years, and and really accomplish everything you set your mind to, man.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be fun to watch.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: And I just hopefully I can stay humble in it and allow the Lord to keep it.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: It's not like he threw a gauntlet down.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: He's like, come on, come after me.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: This is a partnership.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: This is a partner.
- 36:39SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, we're trying to have enough Airbnbs.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: This was the conversation that we could have a full-time cleaning staff that we just have that clean stuff.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 36:49SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I mean it's it's uh and I think to add to just the patriotic piece too, like I have such an appreciation for this country that when I wake up in the morning knowing I run multiple businesses, like there is a genuine, and I mean this 100%, there is a thankfulness that I get to go to work.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: And um I know even if I was to die tomorrow, like I'm leaving something for my family.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and and that's not possible anywhere else in the world.
- 37:17SPEAKER_00: And so if there's one thing that I could really just ram home for people listening, is just have it like this world through the media, especially in this country, can be so divided.
- 37:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's really just it's it is a phenomenal place to live.
- 37:31SPEAKER_00: It's fear-mongering, yeah.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: It's it's terrible.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: And and I don't care if you love Obama, Trump, Hillary.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: Well, if you like Hillary, maybe I'll have a problem with you.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: But but like um it just like that there is there's so much opportunity here.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: If you're honest, you work hard, you show up, and that just it it doesn't happen anywhere else in the world.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: It really just doesn't.
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: And there's no place like it.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: And so just thankful that the Lord has brought me here.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: Um I'm proud to be an American, or at least I'm the I will be a citizen.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: I'm not quite a citizen, but I will be one uh hopefully by the end of the year.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: Oh, awesome, man.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that'll be that'll be another great story.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: You have to ditch the accent then, right?
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: No, I'm not ditching the accent, but I do have to take a test.
- 38:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: Um, which funny funny story, my grandmother is from Newfoundland, Canada, Canada.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: And like back in the day, she had to take like these courses and she had to take an actual test and everything else.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: So I don't know if it's still similar to that nowadays for like legal citizenship.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: 200 questions, I think.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: You get you get like 20 of them, I think, or 40 maybe.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: And so like there's two they just wrong all the time.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: 250, 250 questions of marriage has been around 250 years.
- 38:41SPEAKER_00: And so you've only got to get 70% right, which I'm like, okay, 70% of 40 of 250 is like hopefully it's you know, it's not too hard.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: But yeah, very thankful to be here and this opportunity that we've got in this country to to leave legacies for our families.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: The answer for it is D, all the above.
- 39:00SPEAKER_02: Is America a great country?
- 39:01SPEAKER_02: Is it giving your opportunity?
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: Yes, it's all of everything.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: I have wondered if I just went like A, B, C, D, A, B, C, just Christmas tree.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: Will it work?
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, the American way.
- 39:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 39:15unknown: Gosh.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: Awesome.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: Well, Corey, again, such a pleasure talking to you, getting to meet you, and everything else.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: Uh, Jonathan, any other comments for you today before we wrap it up?
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: Corey, where where can people find you?
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: Social media, different stuff, track you down.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: Instagram, um, Koala Care Services, uh, care with a K.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: Um, so don't put a C in there.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: Um, and then KoalaCare Services.com is our website.
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: Uh or just reach out to you, Jonathan, and you can send them a number and we'll be happy to happy to transform your backyard.
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: Sounds good.
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: Or front yard.
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: That's a cricket player's number.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: That's what you want to say.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: No, it's not a cricket player.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: What's his number?
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, that's a that's that dream is long gone.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: The cricket.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: I did just if I can add this.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, so the Olympics is coming to LA in 2028 and cricket is gonna be a part of it.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: Uh, and America has a cricket team, which is all made up of Indians.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: There's not a single American on this, so it's just Indians.
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: And my hope is to be the one Australian that's an American to go play cricket for America in the Olympics in 2028.
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: Um, but don't think that's gonna happen.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: But if someone's learning, if a child is learning cricket, do you call him grasshopper?
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: Is that just martial arts?
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: There is no baby cricket in no baby.
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: You're like cricket, that's it.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: So um, yeah, or you know, if you uh if you see my koalas driving around town, anyone listening, Grevel, just type in the comments.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: Just cough just oh, it's so good.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's so good.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think we should be friends, Joe.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: You need to move to Greenville.
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: Definitely.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: I'll have to jump in the trunk whenever Jonathan goes on the next trip or something like that.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: Get up here.
- 41:06SPEAKER_02: It's amazing.
- 41:07SPEAKER_02: So that'd be awesome.
- 41:09SPEAKER_02: Sweet.
- 41:09SPEAKER_02: Well, hey, you have officially got the longest podcast so far.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: This is so much fun.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: So it wouldn't shock my mom or my wife.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: Like half of the course right here.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: Thank you for being on brand, Corey, today.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: We loved it.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: So um we'll we'll wrap wrap things up today.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: Uh, so thank y'all again for listening to the long burn.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: Thank you, Corey and uh Jonathan.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: I think that is it.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:35SPEAKER_02: Thank y'all for listening.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 41:37SPEAKER_02: Bye, Corey.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: See ya.
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: Bye.
