- 0:17Speaker 1: cry shin another mind whom Talking Dogs day Line, don't talk,
- 0:21Speaker 1: you Gotta work.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Welcome to Let's Talk with Carl Lee. Let's Talk is
- 0:26Speaker 2: probably presented by Attorney Frank Walker, Real Talk, Real Experience,
- 0:30Speaker 2: Real results, Frank Walker, Law dot Com. Let that conversation
- 0:34Speaker 2: begin on Let's Talk.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is Curly with Let's Talk.
- 0:40Speaker 3: And I have my two co hosts in the building,
- 0:42Speaker 3: Hollis Lewis Hello, and the Miss Lisa Odie football Queen.
- 0:49Speaker 3: So I'll say this, this has been one of the
- 0:52Speaker 3: more interesting setting up the show. This, this show is
- 0:57Speaker 3: this was a little bit This was a little bit different.
- 1:00Speaker 3: It was a little challenging because there were I think
- 1:03Speaker 3: in all reality, there's like a lot of stuff, whether
- 1:07Speaker 3: there's yeah and then and and I know, Hollis you
- 1:10Speaker 3: you you were concerned about some stuff that was like
- 1:13Speaker 3: how far back and all of that, But it's like
- 1:15Speaker 3: it's so still like it's good stuff, and like should
- 1:20Speaker 3: we be hitting it or not? You know, that's that's
- 1:22Speaker 3: that's always the kind of question but we got it
- 1:24Speaker 3: worked out. We think we did. We think we're good.
- 1:27Speaker 3: We think in our minds. I mean, it's time of year.
- 1:29Speaker 3: It's like it's it's literally like you know, you have
- 1:32Speaker 3: w NBA still going on, you have football, college football,
- 1:36Speaker 3: there's a great boxing event this weekend. It's just it's
- 1:39Speaker 3: baseball too. It's just so much going on, sports wild
- 1:41Speaker 3: and again high school. You got high school football going
- 1:45Speaker 3: and and youth league, youth league, and there's always something
- 1:51Speaker 3: to say about you, that's for sure. But I guess
- 1:55Speaker 3: we're going to open with our major colleges in the state.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Marshall in WU. Yep, does anybody want you? Does anybody
- 2:08Speaker 3: want to? Like? At least because she went to the game.
- 2:11Speaker 4: So yeah, that that game, well, I'll tell you it
- 2:15Speaker 4: was it was some something to watch. So I'll just
- 2:19Speaker 4: give a recap of the score and everything. But of course,
- 2:22Speaker 4: unless you live under a rock in West Virginia, you
- 2:24Speaker 4: know that the Mountaineers lost in Athens to OU seventeen
- 2:30Speaker 4: to ten. You know, it was just a bad outing.
- 2:34Speaker 4: I don't know how else to describe it. In Week two,
- 2:38Speaker 4: you know, against the Bobcats, they they pretty much could
- 2:44Speaker 4: You know that it's their first regular season loss to
- 2:48Speaker 4: a group of sixteen since two thousand and eight.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Okay, let that sink in, all right.
- 2:53Speaker 4: It's also their you know, their first away game under
- 2:56Speaker 4: Rich Brod's helm, so that's also concerned.
- 3:01Speaker 3: You know. Overall, it's a bad loss.
- 3:04Speaker 4: But if you look at Ohio University, they are not horrible.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Last year they won the MAC Championship, which I was
- 3:15Speaker 4: not aware of in twenty twenty four that they were
- 3:18Speaker 4: the MIC champions. And also they have a quarterback that
- 3:21Speaker 4: he's good, like, he's legitimately he could play some different places.
- 3:26Speaker 4: You know, some of the fans even told me that, uh,
- 3:29Speaker 4: you know, we tailgated with ou fans. He drives a
- 3:32Speaker 4: Lamborghini at Ohio U in Athens, Ohio.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Okay, he got recruited to be in a transfer portal
- 3:39Speaker 3: and they were trying to get him in other places,
- 3:41Speaker 3: but he turned them down to stay in Athens. Well,
- 3:46Speaker 3: and I'll say this too, like I think that you know, offensively, WVU,
- 3:50Speaker 3: they just couldn't get anything going. He threw three interceptions.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Some of those interceptions were at critical times. A w
- 4:00Speaker 3: you just could not I mean, WV had field position
- 4:02Speaker 3: at times they couldn't get anything going. But let me
- 4:05Speaker 3: ask you this, because again, we've seen like the this
- 4:09Speaker 3: is week two of college football, approaching week three, and
- 4:12Speaker 3: we've seen like those big games coming out to shoot right,
- 4:15Speaker 3: the Texas, Ohio. You had those those those Notre Dame
- 4:20Speaker 3: Miami games. Do you think it was to wv u's
- 4:24Speaker 3: disadvantage to open up with Robert Morris and then Ohio?
- 4:29Speaker 3: Should they have started a little bit stronger and then
- 4:31Speaker 3: when you can't win or lose that game, and then
- 4:34Speaker 3: when you come to a team like Ohio, you kind
- 4:36Speaker 3: of set and you're ready to go. And that's a
- 4:39Speaker 3: really interesting thought process. But for whatever reason, a lot
- 4:45Speaker 3: of teams like that opening with a team that either
- 4:48Speaker 3: you paying them to come and take that hell and
- 4:52Speaker 3: you're thinking that you're gonna you're supposed to win that game.
- 4:55Speaker 3: But two weeks in a row you had two Yes,
- 4:57Speaker 3: I don't know. What I don't understand is what I'm saying. Yes,
- 5:01Speaker 3: what I don't understand is was this a situation where
- 5:05Speaker 3: you thought you needed two of those i'm gonna call
- 5:08Speaker 3: them money games to get yourself situated with a new
- 5:13Speaker 3: offense with a new defense. That's a good point you.
- 5:19Speaker 3: You you know, maybe the thinking was we needed let's
- 5:23Speaker 3: let's let's go two weeks out played some you know,
- 5:28Speaker 3: non relevant teams and win those and just get a
- 5:32Speaker 3: tune up. It's kind of like a scrimmage. I think
- 5:34Speaker 3: it hurts you because I mean, ultimately, like you know, again,
- 5:38Speaker 3: the major disadvantage. I think a lot of college coaches
- 5:42Speaker 3: are facing with essential thing. And we could talk about
- 5:44Speaker 3: marshall a sect in a minute where you essentially have
- 5:46Speaker 3: a whole new team.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Right.
- 5:48Speaker 3: So I'm sure rich Rod brought some of his guys
- 5:50Speaker 3: from Jacksonville and maybe other places he even coaches, but
- 5:53Speaker 3: you don't know as far as the players you've got,
- 5:55Speaker 3: and you got all these transfers coming in, so you
- 5:57Speaker 3: have to build that continuity. So I underst than the
- 6:00Speaker 3: thought process of maybe going out there and scheduling a
- 6:03Speaker 3: few games up front that you know you should win.
- 6:06Speaker 3: But at that same time, it's always that worry about
- 6:08Speaker 3: your guys playing down as opposed to play up. And
- 6:12Speaker 3: I think one of those games you gotta go ahead
- 6:14Speaker 3: and just schedule the dog and just see what you got.
- 6:17Speaker 3: And you know what, it's funny that you say that
- 6:19Speaker 3: you know when you start because sometimes you're not you're
- 6:25Speaker 3: not ready yet, like mentally, you're not really ready sometimes
- 6:29Speaker 3: to actually understand what it's like to jump out there
- 6:33Speaker 3: and play. You're looking at this team on film and
- 6:35Speaker 3: you're looking at him and you're saying, oh man, we
- 6:38Speaker 3: got we got them. And then all of a sudden,
- 6:41Speaker 3: they're looking at your film and they're thinking like, cause
- 6:44Speaker 3: they don't really have because they don't really have no
- 6:47Speaker 3: true film of that team to watch, so all you
- 6:50Speaker 3: could do is watch rich Rodd's games from wherever he coaches,
- 6:57Speaker 3: and so you just all of a sudden, that's even.
- 7:00Speaker 4: More concerning that they came out that's actually true. I
- 7:05Speaker 4: mean that they could come out and pull off a
- 7:06Speaker 4: win like that, and you know, in some of the pressers,
- 7:10Speaker 4: rich Rod said he was disappointed and not discouraged.
- 7:13Speaker 3: However, there's some things to be discouraged about.
- 7:16Speaker 4: First of all, you lose two starters on your offensive front.
- 7:22Speaker 4: They lost their running back, their they're starting running back,
- 7:26Speaker 4: and their wide receiver. Okay, that's too for the season, yes.
- 7:31Speaker 4: And the other thing is the defense, Like, they played
- 7:34Speaker 4: well to a point, but you're playing in my team
- 7:37Speaker 4: and by the fourth quarter you're tired, like they couldn't
- 7:40Speaker 4: keep that fourth quarter got out of their their hands.
- 7:42Speaker 4: They couldn't finish what they started in my opinion.
- 7:45Speaker 3: But I don't know. I'll give the defense a break
- 7:48Speaker 3: because to me it was just offensively. Defense got your
- 7:51Speaker 3: three picks.
- 7:52Speaker 1: And.
- 7:54Speaker 3: You know what I mean. And to your point, to
- 7:56Speaker 3: give me some If I got to be on the
- 7:58Speaker 3: field all day and ya and you ain't moving the ball,
- 8:02Speaker 3: you three and out every everything, every other every every
- 8:06Speaker 3: other time, I'm going there's a place for me to
- 8:09Speaker 3: get tired. Like I said, I just I think you
- 8:13Speaker 3: know it. But but I say, to rich Rod's point, heck,
- 8:16Speaker 3: if w B you go oh and three. So they
- 8:18Speaker 3: can I mean, well not on three, but one and
- 8:20Speaker 3: two if they even if they lose to Pittsburgh this weekend,
- 8:23Speaker 3: if they win the Big twelve, they can still find
- 8:24Speaker 3: themselves in the college playoffs. So I mean, all is
- 8:29Speaker 3: not lost. All they have to do is win the conference.
- 8:31Speaker 3: But let me ask this question. I mean, I'm saying
- 8:33Speaker 3: like this easy, okay. Let's just I'm gonna roll with
- 8:36Speaker 3: you on that one. Okay, So they can pull that off.
- 8:39Speaker 3: They could possibly if they do that and they lose
- 8:44Speaker 3: first out, first game, out in playoffs. There they're out.
- 8:50Speaker 3: How are people going because you got to play? Yeah, okay,
- 8:57Speaker 3: I'm with my my My question is you got you
- 9:04Speaker 3: got two losses loss and one really a bad loss.
- 9:08Speaker 3: And I'm just saying if you stumble your way in
- 9:12Speaker 3: and then you get Because here's the thing, I think,
- 9:16Speaker 3: this is just me. I think college football State of
- 9:20Speaker 3: West Virginia, Marshall, w U. They won't wins. They don't
- 9:25Speaker 3: want to just get in now. They'll settle getting in
- 9:28Speaker 3: if you get in, but man, they want to win
- 9:30Speaker 3: this point.
- 9:31Speaker 4: No, I think at this point if we got in there,
- 9:34Speaker 4: that would be a miracle and the fans would appreciate
- 9:36Speaker 4: it and be elated.
- 9:38Speaker 3: I mean, I seriously, if you can go to a bowl,
- 9:44Speaker 3: the fans are going to be happy.
- 9:47Speaker 5: The fans, I think, depending on I think, but I
- 9:52Speaker 5: think if you got into the playoffs.
- 9:55Speaker 3: That's aff anything is to even get to even have
- 10:04Speaker 3: consideration at this point. Not only would you end up
- 10:07Speaker 3: in the playoffs, but that means you have to win
- 10:09Speaker 3: the Big Twelve. So that means you got a Big
- 10:11Speaker 3: Twelve championship and a players you're good, You're so that
- 10:15Speaker 3: would submit to Rich Rodgers legacy for ad here forever.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Do you think that's possible though, I mean, it's holly
- 10:25Speaker 4: two starters on your offense, you have, you have a
- 10:28Speaker 4: quarterback that's questionable.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I would.
- 10:31Speaker 4: I mean, you know, the offense. I mean, we're in
- 10:33Speaker 4: the second game of the season. We've got injuries, and
- 10:35Speaker 4: they're I mean, and they're headed. You know, they're they're
- 10:37Speaker 4: going to go into the backyard brawl beat up without
- 10:41Speaker 4: really a good offense.
- 10:44Speaker 3: I don't think it's I think it's possible. Is it
- 10:48Speaker 3: likely probable?
- 10:48Speaker 2: Probably?
- 10:49Speaker 3: Yeah? I mean, And I think that's that's the thing
- 10:52Speaker 3: with the new college setup. Right. So you know, ten
- 10:56Speaker 3: to fifteen years ago, you lose that game to Ohio University,
- 10:59Speaker 3: seasons done and it's over. We're not even you're just
- 11:02Speaker 3: playing for a decent boat, right, But now you actually
- 11:06Speaker 3: have a legitimate shot, a shot to be in the
- 11:08Speaker 3: national championship. They ain't a big twelve. They could I mean,
- 11:11Speaker 3: I'm not saying they're going to win it, but I'm
- 11:13Speaker 3: saying they ain't out of it. I'll say that if you,
- 11:16Speaker 3: if you, if they lose, if they lose again, let's
- 11:21Speaker 3: say this coming week, that don't matter. If he's right, twelve,
- 11:26Speaker 3: it don't matter, doesn't matter. Okay, twelve ain't in the pit.
- 11:31Speaker 3: That excuse me. The pit's not in the big twelve, right,
- 11:33Speaker 3: so it don't matter. I'm trying to figure it. Okay,
- 11:38Speaker 3: I understand that. But if you are zero and three
- 11:43Speaker 3: into well, yes, okay, so and you're a player in
- 11:49Speaker 3: today's mindset, are you already looking? I don't know, but
- 11:54Speaker 3: I think you're already looking. If you were made, you
- 11:58Speaker 3: already looking. But but I'm saying, but okay, if you
- 12:02Speaker 3: if you're wanting and right now, yes, let's say you're
- 12:05Speaker 3: wanting too, and then you go into conference play and
- 12:08Speaker 3: you win like the first games within conference play, so
- 12:12Speaker 3: that means you two and oh in the comm Now,
- 12:14Speaker 3: I think I think that that's like the round. Okay,
- 12:17Speaker 3: we got something here, let's roll. Let's know. I don't
- 12:19Speaker 3: say I don't think that. I'm thinking it's like, okay,
- 12:22Speaker 3: let me see. I mean, I don't think that. You know,
- 12:26Speaker 3: I'm saying we got something. I'm saying we we we
- 12:28Speaker 3: can we can maybe do a little. Can I can
- 12:30Speaker 3: stay I can, I can I can think I can
- 12:33Speaker 3: stay here again. But I still need to see again
- 12:38Speaker 3: if you turn around and lose the following week after that,
- 12:41Speaker 3: I'm thinking you're starting to lose the players that are
- 12:45Speaker 3: the that believe in their mind that they're great players
- 12:50Speaker 3: because it's too easy.
- 12:51Speaker 4: You're going to look at that, like the defensive lines.
- 12:53Speaker 4: I mean, you've got people looking in saying, well, you
- 12:55Speaker 4: know that defense isn't too bad. Let's just check out
- 12:57Speaker 4: some of these individual players. We may need them to
- 13:00Speaker 4: sheer to fill some gaps.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Because all I need is I need one defensive linement.
- 13:05Speaker 3: They got one that could fit right now. I mean,
- 13:07Speaker 3: I understand that, but I'm just saying optimistically, and I'm
- 13:11Speaker 3: just I think just the way college football has changed
- 13:14Speaker 3: is that it's just even with that loss, it's just
- 13:17Speaker 3: not over. No, you know what I'm saying. It may
- 13:21Speaker 3: be over for like we'll talk about Marshall. It's probably
- 13:23Speaker 3: over for Marshall at this point, but it's not over
- 13:26Speaker 3: for w e U because of the conference, because of
- 13:29Speaker 3: the yeah, and they played, you know, the lower division.
- 13:33Speaker 3: They're not in the power for also speaking of Marshalls,
- 13:36Speaker 3: speaking of Marshall, let's.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Go there, Okay, I mean, it was a tough it
- 13:42Speaker 4: was a tough weekend for West Virginia fall.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Yeah it was, but you mean.
- 13:50Speaker 4: Just set it up a little bit here, okay, so
- 13:53Speaker 4: we all know, here's another one. Marshall's oh and two
- 13:56Speaker 4: under the Tony Gibson era. You know, Missouri State defeated
- 14:02Speaker 4: the Herd twenty one to thirty or twenty one to twenty,
- 14:05Speaker 4: I'm sorry, And it was one of.
- 14:07Speaker 3: Those gut kick yes losses.
- 14:10Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, Like you're you're up with
- 14:13Speaker 4: you know, two five. I think it was like four
- 14:15Speaker 4: minutes left in the fourth quarter, and and and somehow
- 14:17Speaker 4: they they rally and you know, with two minutes and
- 14:21Speaker 4: twelve seconds left in the fourth quarter, you know, their
- 14:25Speaker 4: quarterback gets a big screen passing. Then later they intercept
- 14:29Speaker 4: a quarterback turner and and you know.
- 14:31Speaker 3: That was it.
- 14:33Speaker 4: I was looking at the team stats and I'll quickly
- 14:36Speaker 4: go through them and then you guys tell me what
- 14:37Speaker 4: you think. You know, the stats usually tell the story, right,
- 14:40Speaker 4: so real quick, I'll go through ms Us and Marshall stats.
- 14:44Speaker 4: But passing yards, Marshall had three hundred and eighty I'm sorry.
- 14:49Speaker 4: MSU had three hundred and eighty eight. Marshall had eighty
- 14:52Speaker 4: three right there right Passing.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Yard Wow, passing, that's an issue.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Yeah, total yards, MSU had four hundred and seventy four,
- 15:03Speaker 4: Marshall had two hundred and seventy four, So it was
- 15:05Speaker 4: still a difference, but the passing yards was unbelievable.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Rushing yards weren't.
- 15:10Speaker 4: They were a little better, but MSU had eighty six
- 15:13Speaker 4: Marshall had one hundred and ninety one. Penalties were about
- 15:17Speaker 4: the same. I won't go through all the others. Also,
- 15:19Speaker 4: time of possession was pretty equal, like MSU had thirty
- 15:22Speaker 4: four to twenty five. But that pass and rush, yeah,
- 15:25Speaker 4: that's tough.
- 15:26Speaker 3: That's huge, right, And I think that that goes to
- 15:30Speaker 3: a team like Marshall when you have the lack of continuity,
- 15:35Speaker 3: because when you have a lack of continuity and when
- 15:37Speaker 3: you had the massive turnover that they had, to your point,
- 15:42Speaker 3: that reflects directly in the passing game because you don't
- 15:44Speaker 3: have the timing, you don't have the the just the
- 15:48Speaker 3: time itself to work with quarterback receiver and that's kind
- 15:52Speaker 3: of the hardest thing to build far as even quarterback
- 15:55Speaker 3: to receiver offensive line to quarterback, So it's difficult to
- 15:59Speaker 3: build that. So when you have that lack of continuity,
- 16:02Speaker 3: because I think a lot of games are gonna come
- 16:03Speaker 3: down to who has more continuity. And when you look
- 16:06Speaker 3: at a team like Missouri State, which was a lower
- 16:08Speaker 3: level team that Marshall should have beat a part of
- 16:10Speaker 3: money gains for Marshall, they probably had a without knowing
- 16:14Speaker 3: all the details, they probably had a little bit more
- 16:17Speaker 3: continuity and the guys that they brought back, and they
- 16:19Speaker 3: were able to overcome that, you know, maybe the difference
- 16:23Speaker 3: in conference or whatever. And I think what we're saying
- 16:25Speaker 3: here too is the fact that you have so many
- 16:30Speaker 3: players leave, so many new players coming in. Nobody got
- 16:35Speaker 3: hit like Marshall, nobody country got hit like and not
- 16:42Speaker 3: defending them, but now you're bringing in guys and and
- 16:48Speaker 3: can't camp build continuity from all these different guys and
- 16:54Speaker 3: and But I would say not this version of camp.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Maybe if you had the old school too, but you
- 17:00Speaker 3: there for a month thirty days, maybe yes, but not
- 17:04Speaker 3: this verse because again and again, the personalities of players
- 17:09Speaker 3: today is more individualized, I think than it's ever been.
- 17:15Speaker 3: You know, like, you know, I'm on the team, I
- 17:18Speaker 3: want to be good. I want to be as good
- 17:21Speaker 3: as I can possibly be, which is always a good,
- 17:24Speaker 3: positive thing, but that has to fit inside of the team.
- 17:28Speaker 3: And there's money time, and there's money tied to ITHIP,
- 17:31Speaker 3: not just scholarship money. And I think I think that's
- 17:34Speaker 3: a separation, that that that keeps me from you, you know,
- 17:38Speaker 3: from from connecting with you and saying, come on, man,
- 17:41Speaker 3: let's let's just go out there and work. I don't
- 17:43Speaker 3: care if you work or not. I'm trying to get
- 17:45Speaker 3: my money. And I and I think it. I think
- 17:48Speaker 3: it really really truly hurts the bond that a team
- 17:55Speaker 3: can have. And but and and let me ask the
- 17:58Speaker 3: reverse question. So we talked about a team like WVU
- 18:02Speaker 3: kind of scheduling lower grade games the first two games.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Do you think it hurt Marshall scheduling that Ohio State
- 18:10Speaker 3: game when you have that lack of continuity? Should they
- 18:13Speaker 3: have walked in with a way, like even like a
- 18:16Speaker 3: Division two ponent, just to get kind of warmed up
- 18:19Speaker 3: and then gone maybe slowly into conference play? You mean Georgia, right,
- 18:24Speaker 3: what's that, George?
- 18:25Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Georgia, I don't know. I mean you would
- 18:32Speaker 4: think that it could go both ways, Like what you
- 18:35Speaker 4: said earlier, sometimes with them playing Georgia, they were never
- 18:39Speaker 4: in that game. I think I think there has to
- 18:42Speaker 4: be a level of competition that you consider, you know,
- 18:45Speaker 4: maybe not Georgia, maybe a team that's a little above you,
- 18:48Speaker 4: like maybe a Virginia Tech, a more manageable team you
- 18:52Speaker 4: know that you possibly could could hang with.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Well, I'm saying in light of because they had the
- 18:57Speaker 3: mass incidents, do you you know what I'm saying saying
- 19:00Speaker 3: light of.
- 19:00Speaker 4: That, But I don't think they could foresee that, right,
- 19:02Speaker 4: don't they set the schedules so far ahead.
- 19:06Speaker 3: They may have had that schedule, they may have already
- 19:09Speaker 3: had it, but I'm just like, bro, I need to
- 19:11Speaker 3: after that last January look, man, schedule Like, look, we
- 19:15Speaker 3: ain't gonna be able to make that because to your point, Holli,
- 19:18Speaker 3: they had you had at least from January coming in you.
- 19:24Speaker 4: They have to fill that spot, which is hard at
- 19:26Speaker 4: one short notice.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Right. I guess they could pick up a team like
- 19:29Speaker 3: a Missery Stay. I mean, I can pay a team,
- 19:32Speaker 3: That's what I'm about to say, Charles or So then
- 19:34Speaker 3: I paid somebody, Hampton, I could pay somebody. So that's
- 19:41Speaker 3: just anybody. Anybody that you call and say we're gonna
- 19:45Speaker 3: pay you this amount of money. They're coming somebody and
- 19:48Speaker 3: I guess My point is just saying, when considering all
- 19:52Speaker 3: the transfer stuff and when you're scheduling games, yeah, do
- 19:57Speaker 3: you do you have to consider that? Now?
- 19:59Speaker 4: Are you al to cancel? Is there a certain time frame?
- 20:02Speaker 4: I don't know that that would be good to know, wouldn't.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know that. I don't know if that's
- 20:08Speaker 3: a rule or not. But because I like Alabama, You've
- 20:13Speaker 3: just canceled their game with WU, but it's for twenty
- 20:15Speaker 3: twenty six exactly. That's what I'm saying. There's time for
- 20:18Speaker 3: them to I could have put I would have been
- 20:20Speaker 3: more than willing to push that ahead. But I'm guessing.
- 20:22Speaker 3: I'm just saying, like I would have guessed under these
- 20:25Speaker 3: insinuating circumstances if I'm Marshall, if I'm the a D
- 20:29Speaker 3: and I'm looking at this, and I'm saying, dang, I'm
- 20:31Speaker 3: gonna get basically a whole new fifty two seventy two
- 20:35Speaker 3: man rosters. Maybe the check was too good, Maybe maybe
- 20:39Speaker 3: you might be they need money and right, but there's
- 20:45Speaker 3: no amount of money that can that can save your team,
- 20:50Speaker 3: because in losses like this, you can lose that team's future.
- 20:56Speaker 4: That's from a players and a coach's view, it's not
- 20:59Speaker 4: from the ads you that has I mean.
- 21:02Speaker 3: I'm not saying that it's right.
- 21:04Speaker 4: I'm just saying they have a program to run and
- 21:07Speaker 4: they have to have funds to do it properly.
- 21:09Speaker 6: I've got your info here on the cancelation policy.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Okay, okay.
- 21:13Speaker 6: So there's no single unified scheduled cancelation policy for the NCAA.
- 21:18Speaker 6: So it depends on the conference that you're in and
- 21:20Speaker 6: the schools and a lot of times on there's one
- 21:23Speaker 6: for ones or whatever.
- 21:24Speaker 3: It's all built into the contract. Okay, okay, But but
- 21:28Speaker 3: I'm guessing within that contract it has to be something
- 21:31Speaker 3: whereas thing wedding circumstances, it has to be an out
- 21:34Speaker 3: in that. And to your point, Lisa, again from an
- 21:37Speaker 3: eighties perspective, from a university perspective, you're like, well, we
- 21:40Speaker 3: need that money to you know, carry but I don't
- 21:42Speaker 3: need football team, but you know, other program. Right. But
- 21:45Speaker 3: if I'm also the coach who said it, okay, I'm
- 21:50Speaker 3: not gonna I'm probably not thinking that I got to
- 21:52Speaker 3: get out of it, but I still think I got
- 21:54Speaker 3: a chance to earn it. My team can get a
- 21:56Speaker 3: little bit better, hopefully, we won't get anybody hurt. All
- 21:59Speaker 3: of those kind of things. Yeah, I just I just
- 22:01Speaker 3: have a hard time thinking like, you're going to get better,
- 22:03Speaker 3: and you got a whole new coaching staff and whole
- 22:06Speaker 3: new team.
- 22:07Speaker 4: Marshall has that mentality of winning that they are known
- 22:10Speaker 4: to go on the road and be able to hang
- 22:12Speaker 4: with teams. We know that, you know, Notre Dame, they
- 22:15Speaker 4: they've beaten them. They went to Clemson, Virginia Tech. I mean,
- 22:18Speaker 4: they're known to be able to go in there and
- 22:20Speaker 4: and pull off victories. And so maybe they were thinking,
- 22:23Speaker 4: you know, some of that magic may may still be around,
- 22:25Speaker 4: but not.
- 22:27Speaker 3: Sc When I was at State, we played we played
- 22:33Speaker 3: Marshall and and my of course, and coach prewittt Bob
- 22:39Speaker 3: Brewitt was the coach. There was no way that I
- 22:44Speaker 3: even had to think about him running the score up. Now,
- 22:48Speaker 3: he couldn't save us if we couldn't tackle or couldn't
- 22:51Speaker 3: cover the receivers. He's not going to keep He's not
- 22:55Speaker 3: going to keep that team in. Right, if you don't
- 22:59Speaker 3: have that kind of a setup and you're and you're
- 23:02Speaker 3: the and you're the bottom end of the team, you know,
- 23:05Speaker 3: the team that's getting the money. I'm not sure that
- 23:12Speaker 3: these games can these gams can ruin your season. I think,
- 23:17Speaker 3: like I said, I think they're worth it, and I
- 23:19Speaker 3: think it's as good that this because it's almost like,
- 23:22Speaker 3: you know, a revenue share within college sports. So I
- 23:26Speaker 3: don't mind it. I'm just saying, like I think. Now
- 23:30Speaker 3: it's a different thought process. Not only are you thinking
- 23:32Speaker 3: about the safety of your team and all that other stuff,
- 23:35Speaker 3: but you're also thinking about dang man, I got thirty
- 23:40Speaker 3: new dudes here. Yeah, and I don't know, you know
- 23:43Speaker 3: what I'm saying, And I got a new coaches staff,
- 23:46Speaker 3: So I think those things have to be considered now
- 23:48Speaker 3: in addition to everything you just said as far as
- 23:51Speaker 3: your relationship with the coach and all these different other things. Yeah,
- 23:54Speaker 3: I think I.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Do you think that the beatdown in Georgia it had
- 24:01Speaker 4: I'm sure it did. It had a toll on their
- 24:03Speaker 4: mental framework going into this game, even it's a game
- 24:07Speaker 4: they should have won. You know, this team is this
- 24:11Speaker 4: is their first year in Conference USA, but they're coming
- 24:13Speaker 4: from Division one.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Okay, that's what they were.
- 24:18Speaker 4: There's Division one, Division one FCS, right, Okay, yeah, yeah, sorry,
- 24:23Speaker 4: sorry FCS, But that's a step below at least a
- 24:27Speaker 4: step below the Sumbolt am I.
- 24:31Speaker 3: So, I don't know.
- 24:33Speaker 4: And for the fans that that go down there and
- 24:36Speaker 4: pay the money to see this, you know, brand New,
- 24:39Speaker 4: hoping that with the money game that they could at
- 24:41Speaker 4: least pull a victory out against this team, Isn't it
- 24:45Speaker 4: going to be hard to pull those teams that those
- 24:47Speaker 4: fans back for this coming weekend? For another, I mean,
- 24:51Speaker 4: I don't think they're in some belt I didn't look
- 24:52Speaker 4: to see who their opponent is, but I'm pretty sure
- 24:54Speaker 4: they're not in some belt play yet.
- 24:55Speaker 3: But I think you've got I think you've got a
- 24:58Speaker 3: couple of weeks. You've got a couple of weeks, I
- 25:01Speaker 3: think two.
- 25:02Speaker 4: Before fans start to just say no, yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Yeah, now they're gonna talk all all through this time.
- 25:12Speaker 3: I think this lost is worse than w U. Yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 25:15Speaker 3: I do No, No, that team won the MOC. Oh
- 25:19Speaker 3: you won the MOC last year. I mean that's but
- 25:22Speaker 3: I say that quarter, but you threw three interceptions. You
- 25:24Speaker 3: tried to give that game back to w B.
- 25:26Speaker 4: I'm just saying the respect part like the opponent, but
- 25:30Speaker 4: I'm saying.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Like I think Marshall fans you gotta get his coach
- 25:34Speaker 3: and his team a mulligan. You got a whole new
- 25:37Speaker 3: squad this year. Don't even count if y'all win five
- 25:40Speaker 3: four games good, you know what I'm saying, bit of
- 25:45Speaker 3: I don't know if if I don't know if the
- 25:47Speaker 3: new Marshall fans even understand that reality, because that's not
- 25:53Speaker 3: what we do. You know what I'm saying. We went,
- 25:56Speaker 3: we we we played for bowl games, we played for.
- 25:59Speaker 4: Chair especially after last year went in the Sunbow. But
- 26:03Speaker 4: you know, and that's another thing, the uninformed fan doesn't
- 26:07Speaker 4: realize how devastating it was after the the Sun Belt
- 26:12Speaker 4: Conference championship when the whole team left with twine.
- 26:17Speaker 3: Yes, I don't.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Think the uninformed fan realizes what that did to that program.
- 26:22Speaker 3: Like it's years of damage. Some realize to me, some
- 26:26Speaker 3: may realize, but they're not cutting you no break. I
- 26:29Speaker 3: think you got to cut the team of break. I
- 26:31Speaker 3: just you have to break. You have to, man. It's
- 26:34Speaker 3: just like I said, you got a whole new team,
- 26:37Speaker 3: a whole new coaching staff, and you didn't even you
- 26:39Speaker 3: couldn't even feel the team for the bowl game exactly
- 26:42Speaker 3: after you won a conference championship.
- 26:45Speaker 4: It's almost and I hate to even compare it, but
- 26:47Speaker 4: it's almost like the plane crash kind of situation. They
- 26:51Speaker 4: did not have enough players to play a game.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Yeah, man, I would say this year and maybe even
- 26:57Speaker 3: next year as a wash. Whatever you can do, do it,
- 27:01Speaker 3: but we ain't gonna hold it against you. So I
- 27:03Speaker 3: think you think that you think that's the fans. I
- 27:06Speaker 3: think that's I think that's a real I think that's
- 27:08Speaker 3: a fan because again, it's not like I would stuff
- 27:11Speaker 3: is hidden. It's not like it's this was out. This
- 27:13Speaker 3: was like, dang, the whole team left and you had
- 27:16Speaker 3: a really really good team. You had a really good quarterback,
- 27:18Speaker 3: you got uh, you got you got players in the
- 27:22Speaker 3: NFL that coach Huff coach that was on that team
- 27:25Speaker 3: last year. So you had you had legit dudes who
- 27:29Speaker 3: are now playing in the NFL and now playing at
- 27:32Speaker 3: a you know, in the Sun Belt, which you know.
- 27:35Speaker 3: So I just think this year is a wash, at
- 27:38Speaker 3: least this year, I think it is. But reality is
- 27:41Speaker 3: the fans expected what are the different I'm really wondering
- 27:45Speaker 3: what the expectation is truly for the it was a
- 27:51Speaker 3: legitimate diehard fan. That's a good question for both teams. Yeah,
- 27:55Speaker 3: for both for the Mountaineers.
- 27:57Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know, you can't be delusional about
- 28:00Speaker 4: what both programs are going through in their own at
- 28:03Speaker 4: their own levels, in their own conferences.
- 28:05Speaker 3: I would say, man, just if you can get to
- 28:07Speaker 3: about five hundred, as Marshall, that's a good win. If
- 28:11Speaker 3: you can get to a bowl game for w VU,
- 28:13Speaker 3: that's a win. Yeah, I'm with you. But and but
- 28:16Speaker 3: to that, the only people who can who have to
- 28:19Speaker 3: understand that is the fan base. Because the team's not
- 28:22Speaker 3: thinking that. The coach can't. You can't say that, you
- 28:26Speaker 3: know what I'm saying.
- 28:27Speaker 4: I think with both being like with with rich Rod
- 28:30Speaker 4: being at w VU in pact in the past and
- 28:33Speaker 4: Tony Gibson being a native of West Virginia, maybe the
- 28:36Speaker 4: fans won't put them in the hot seat as quickly.
- 28:40Speaker 4: But you can't, That's what I'm saying.
- 28:45Speaker 3: I don't think that's tough. I can see it. I
- 28:48Speaker 3: can see I can see them doing with Rod like that.
- 28:51Speaker 3: I can see it. Also, I can see them doing
- 28:53Speaker 3: Tony the honeys, and that's that's wow. I would I
- 28:58Speaker 3: wish I could. I could agree with but I think
- 29:04Speaker 3: I just think that Marshall is Marshall's fan base. Marshall's fans.
- 29:08Speaker 3: I don't think they belong there. I think is are
- 29:14Speaker 3: not patient. I don't think they're willing to be or
- 29:16Speaker 3: think that they have to be patient to wait. I
- 29:21Speaker 3: don't see how you got a choice. It's like one
- 29:23Speaker 3: of them situations you don't want to wait, but you
- 29:25Speaker 3: ain't got your choice. You ain't got a choice, like
- 29:29Speaker 3: can we can we show up? Will we will they
- 29:32Speaker 3: show up? Yeah? I mean this man ain't even got
- 29:36Speaker 3: He's not even had a chance to recruit. You're right,
- 29:38Speaker 3: this is I mean again, transfer porter gives you the opportunity.
- 29:41Speaker 3: But like I said, you can have a collection of talent,
- 29:44Speaker 3: but just you having a collection of talent doesn't mean
- 29:46Speaker 3: you have a team. Okay, So okay, So if you're Marshall,
- 29:51Speaker 3: are you in the portal or you got to be
- 29:55Speaker 3: in You can't be in high school unless you can
- 29:57Speaker 3: go get the top one of the top. God can't
- 30:01Speaker 3: at each position, which I don't think you can't. I
- 30:04Speaker 3: think you got to assess what you got and I
- 30:06Speaker 3: think in the portal you I think in the port
- 30:08Speaker 3: you gotta be strategic. So on the porter you need
- 30:11Speaker 3: to get your offense, offensive line, your defensive line foundational
- 30:15Speaker 3: set if it's not already, and you gotta get some dogs,
- 30:18Speaker 3: and then you gotta get a couple of high school
- 30:20Speaker 3: kids so that way you can start to build for
- 30:23Speaker 3: the next two and three years. So I think you
- 30:25Speaker 3: got to do a little bit of both of you, Marshall.
- 30:28Speaker 3: I would, I would, I would guess guessing. I would
- 30:32Speaker 3: go all out for now if I could, unless there
- 30:36Speaker 3: was a really suitless talk with real experience, I'm gonna
- 30:46Speaker 3: go ahead and bring in everybody.
- 30:49Speaker 2: From where and then and remember to become part of
- 30:55Speaker 2: the conversation.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Now I can go out and try to get some
- 30:59Speaker 3: you know, maybe a couple of high school guys, maybe
- 31:02Speaker 3: some juco guys, just some guys that can that I
- 31:04Speaker 3: can I think I can build from.
- 31:06Speaker 4: And the sad part of this is, guys, this is
- 31:09Speaker 4: the sad part. It's always going to be an eternal
- 31:12Speaker 4: battle for these coaches because if you get any decent
- 31:16Speaker 4: players and you start winning, guess what happens, Yeah, they.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Get fished out and see. And this was my point
- 31:22Speaker 3: when we talked about this last year or earlier this year,
- 31:26Speaker 3: why in the world, just thinking, why do you get
- 31:31Speaker 3: rid of huff. You know what I'm saying again, unless
- 31:34Speaker 3: he wanted to leave us something different. But what I'm
- 31:36Speaker 3: saying is that if it just came down to a
- 31:38Speaker 3: contract dispute and you have a guy who is not
- 31:42Speaker 3: on who's getting the transfer kids, but he's also getting
- 31:45Speaker 3: kids from West Virginia, and he's getting kids from the area,
- 31:48Speaker 3: and he's also winning you championships, and he's also pitting
- 31:51Speaker 3: guys in the n NFL. He had a record. Because
- 31:55Speaker 3: if nothing to your point, Lisa May, we may not
- 31:57Speaker 3: be able to pay you a whole bunch. Now look
- 32:00Speaker 3: at my record. I got up team guys in the NFL,
- 32:03Speaker 3: and if you listen to if you listen to us,
- 32:04Speaker 3: and if you follow the program, you can be there
- 32:06Speaker 3: to that. So it's a selling point where you can
- 32:08Speaker 3: win games, you can and be in the NFL, you
- 32:11Speaker 3: can possibly get a little money in your pocket. So
- 32:13Speaker 3: I just think we set ourselves back. I'm not saying
- 32:15Speaker 3: the Gifts is not a great coach, but I think
- 32:17Speaker 3: that we're going to have to allow him two, three,
- 32:20Speaker 3: maybe even four seasons to turn this around. Are they
- 32:23Speaker 3: going to be again? I just I questioned the patience
- 32:26Speaker 3: of an athletic director to say, three four years, I.
- 32:32Speaker 4: Think that the fortunately, I mean, I think in this
- 32:36Speaker 4: day and age, you know that that that's that's what's fair.
- 32:39Speaker 4: But whether it happens or not is a whole different story.
- 32:41Speaker 4: But because you don't sell tickets, you gotta make changes.
- 32:44Speaker 4: That's just the way it is. If you're not feeling
- 32:46Speaker 4: those seats in the stadium and you're not bringing in fans, changes,
- 32:51Speaker 4: changes happen.
- 32:52Speaker 3: It's not fair. It's just the way it works. You're right,
- 32:54Speaker 3: you know. All right, Well, let's go take a quick
- 32:58Speaker 3: break and then we'll come right back.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Yeah, you gotta work.
- 33:10Speaker 3: You gotta work.
- 33:11Speaker 1: A sign it's mine, gotta show everybody is my sign.
- 33:15Speaker 3: Can't you gotta work? Cry shin another mind?
- 33:19Speaker 1: Who talking dog to day line, don't tell you gotta work.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Welcome to Let's talk with Carl Lee. Let's talk is
- 33:26Speaker 2: probably presented by Attorney Frank Walker. Real Talk, real experience,
- 33:30Speaker 2: real results, Frank Walker Law dot Com. Let that conversation
- 33:34Speaker 2: begin on Let's talk.
- 33:36Speaker 3: All right, ladies and gentlemen, Now we're gonna we're gonna
- 33:42Speaker 3: we're gonna switch to a kind of a I'm gonna
- 33:47Speaker 3: call it a crazy topic. Okay, you when you see
- 33:57Speaker 3: sports today in most cases, or let's say back in
- 34:03Speaker 3: the day, you know there was Back in the day,
- 34:07Speaker 3: there was there was there was respect for me to
- 34:10Speaker 3: holler us as a as as a as a as
- 34:13Speaker 3: an opponent. You know, you you you shook hands. You
- 34:18Speaker 3: you know you done all these kind of things. And
- 34:20Speaker 3: and and I know that they still do it. I
- 34:22Speaker 3: know in you football, we you know, we shake the
- 34:24Speaker 3: coaches hands and the players from sportsmanship. I don't think
- 34:31Speaker 3: ever in my entire football career have I ever thought
- 34:41Speaker 3: or could think that another player would spit on me
- 34:47Speaker 3: down on the ground. There's all kinds of stuff happens
- 34:49Speaker 3: down at the bottom when you at when you're at
- 34:52Speaker 3: the bottom of the power, bottom of the power, there's
- 34:54Speaker 3: you know, there's somebody made me might throw a little
- 34:56Speaker 3: blow at you. But but but you're going to.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Game.
- 35:01Speaker 3: Yes, Well, I mean, I think the the weird thing
- 35:08Speaker 3: about it is because I have seen it. There was
- 35:10Speaker 3: an incident years ago with Bill Romanowski, well I think
- 35:13Speaker 3: when he played for the Raiders and he spit on
- 35:16Speaker 3: a demo Broncos receiver. I can't remember the name. So,
- 35:18Speaker 3: but it was sort of like in the heat of
- 35:20Speaker 3: the battle, right they the game was already commencing, and
- 35:23Speaker 3: they were, you know, jawing, and you know, things might
- 35:25Speaker 3: have happened with the context of the game. This situation
- 35:29Speaker 3: is unique in that the game ain't even started yet.
- 35:33Speaker 3: I just walked them to the dude and spit on it.
- 35:36Speaker 3: I just thought it was just it was It was
- 35:38Speaker 3: so strange that that happened, that you would do that,
- 35:42Speaker 3: and the referee was right there. You know, what, what
- 35:45Speaker 3: what happened before that? Did you get into it before
- 35:48Speaker 3: the game?
- 35:49Speaker 4: Did you see the whole video? I know, right when
- 35:52Speaker 4: it happened. The only part of the video they really
- 35:54Speaker 4: showed was the actual incident where he spit on Doc.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Right.
- 35:59Speaker 4: But then if you roll the tape back a little bit,
- 36:02Speaker 4: I think some different sports outlets had put the complete
- 36:06Speaker 4: video out. Of course, there was trash talking. Doc was
- 36:09Speaker 4: pretty far away, but I guess they were, you know,
- 36:13Speaker 4: like you said, jawing at each other. And then Dyk
- 36:15Speaker 4: spit toward him and said something and smiled like this
- 36:20Speaker 4: smirk on his face like you could see in the video.
- 36:23Speaker 4: He said something that he knew provoked him. He provoked him,
- 36:27Speaker 4: and so but it wasn't close to him. It was
- 36:30Speaker 4: like twelve feet away, so he had no intention. He
- 36:33Speaker 4: had the intention of inciting him to do something irrational.
- 36:37Speaker 3: So you feel like he thought maybe Dak's spit at
- 36:40Speaker 3: him or tried to spin one who. I think that
- 36:43Speaker 3: was the impression he got.
- 36:44Speaker 4: He was probably hyped up to play ball or whatever,
- 36:46Speaker 4: and then he actually followed through and spent on him,
- 36:49Speaker 4: which you know, that's that's no excuse. You've got to
- 36:51Speaker 4: be able to handle that situation. So in fact, I
- 36:55Speaker 4: think the NFL commissioner even came out and said, you
- 36:59Speaker 4: know that that they recognized that Doc did do some
- 37:03Speaker 4: things to provoke him, but he doesn't receive any discipline
- 37:06Speaker 4: for it because you know, it's non punishable.
- 37:11Speaker 3: What he did was non punishable, and they're only going
- 37:14Speaker 3: to suspend the I forget they got did just his name,
- 37:17Speaker 3: but they're only going to suspend him for the one
- 37:18Speaker 3: game that he missed and just finding whatever his harder salary, Yeah, Carter,
- 37:22Speaker 3: for the salary that he lost, So he is possible
- 37:25Speaker 3: for him not to get suspended any additional games. But
- 37:29Speaker 3: I mean, I don't.
- 37:30Speaker 4: Know, what do you think, Carl, You're in you were
- 37:32Speaker 4: in those types of games.
- 37:34Speaker 3: It never, never, ever would it have crossed my mind,
- 37:41Speaker 3: Nor do I think it would have crossed a player's mind,
- 37:45Speaker 3: who we could be upset at each other, talking smack
- 37:49Speaker 3: with each other. I don't think that was ever would
- 37:53Speaker 3: come to my mind. And the fact that this is,
- 37:56Speaker 3: this has happened, and let's just say if both players,
- 38:02Speaker 3: we are part of it. So Hollis, Hollis, I thought
- 38:08Speaker 3: he was spending on me. I spit back. I get him. Okay,
- 38:11Speaker 3: he missed me, I get him. We both need to
- 38:15Speaker 3: be fine. Oh, I think you're fine. Yes, I think
- 38:20Speaker 3: you're fine. And you and you are out of game.
- 38:23Speaker 3: I wonder how long Carter's if not two games, for
- 38:27Speaker 3: sure one game, so that if anybody else sees or
- 38:32Speaker 3: thinks that they're going to do that, they know what
- 38:35Speaker 3: it's going to cost. If you do basically nothing, then
- 38:40Speaker 3: what's gonna stop it from happening again?
- 38:42Speaker 4: But that's the whole point. He knows se see Dik
- 38:45Speaker 4: Prescott's been around the league long enough to know what
- 38:48Speaker 4: he can get away with. And I wonder how long
- 38:50Speaker 4: Carter's been in the league. But he baited, He definitely
- 38:53Speaker 4: baited him, and he took the bab He took it.
- 38:54Speaker 3: He took it, took the bait. I don't know, Like
- 38:57Speaker 3: I said, I think it's just one of them situations
- 38:59Speaker 3: in which if everything you're saying is confirmed and true,
- 39:03Speaker 3: then it's kind of like a one for one. Just
- 39:05Speaker 3: let it go. But it's also a situation in which
- 39:08Speaker 3: Carter Man just like Sacum and throw elbow at us.
- 39:11Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, Like, do something up like that,
- 39:13Speaker 3: don't just get a just but but I mean, people
- 39:17Speaker 3: are human. We've seen the situation with Lamar Jackson with
- 39:20Speaker 3: the fan, and the fans shoved me, you know what
- 39:22Speaker 3: I'm saying, Lamar Jackson shoved him back. So at the
- 39:25Speaker 3: end of the day, your men, you're human and sometimes
- 39:28Speaker 3: you just have like that natural reaction. NFL and the
- 39:33Speaker 3: bill stuff. Okay, And to that point of the banning
- 39:38Speaker 3: of the fan, who's involved with the player, Now it's
- 39:43Speaker 3: player on player, So you do nothing. You ain't gonna
- 39:47Speaker 3: ban the player. I'm not saying bann him, just spinning.
- 39:51Speaker 3: I mean he lost, he lost, darn. There's sixty sixty
- 39:54Speaker 3: g's sixty thousand dollars a game check, So I mean
- 39:58Speaker 3: that's enough to deter me, you lose with some people
- 40:02Speaker 3: making up in a year. Yeah, but that, but but
- 40:04Speaker 3: that that could be a drop in the bucket for
- 40:07Speaker 3: maybe that could be a drop in the bucket for
- 40:10Speaker 3: I think anytime anybody think I think it's I think it's.
- 40:14Speaker 3: But again, even with the sixty, I think you said
- 40:18Speaker 3: a precedent that no one will ever think about crossing again.
- 40:23Speaker 4: Let me ask you this. Do you think Dak Prescott
- 40:26Speaker 4: was given a pass because of who he is the
- 40:29Speaker 4: starting quarterback of the Cowboys?
- 40:32Speaker 3: Just the spit ain't laying. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he didn't
- 40:38Speaker 3: put enough behind it to get there, because because I
- 40:44Speaker 3: don't know if I'm really thinking that anybody has said
- 40:47Speaker 3: or anybody really thinks like he provoked it. You know,
- 40:51Speaker 3: I haven't seen anybody saying that he provoked it. I
- 40:56Speaker 3: haven't heard you need to giggle it.
- 40:57Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, have you seen it, Matt, have you seen
- 41:00Speaker 4: the whole video? Oh my gosh. Okay, Well maybe, but
- 41:02Speaker 4: she only went But they even said in the press
- 41:05Speaker 4: conference like, uh, you know this guy, this this NFL
- 41:08Speaker 4: rules analyst said, you know, Dallas quarterback Dike Prescott will
- 41:12Speaker 4: not receive discipline for his role his role in in
- 41:17Speaker 4: the the incident that happened before the game.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Which which is which which makes it sound to me
- 41:24Speaker 3: like he had a roll in it because he was
- 41:28Speaker 3: he was jalling, he was there and jallin. But it
- 41:31Speaker 3: doesn't say because why don't you say what? What was
- 41:34Speaker 3: his role? But you ain't gonna say that. It's just
- 41:36Speaker 3: not worth saying it because again, nothing landed. So it's
- 41:39Speaker 3: just with situation in which they if you're the NFL,
- 41:42Speaker 3: you just want to get rid of that.
- 41:44Speaker 4: And they said, according according to him, Prescott's actions that
- 41:47Speaker 4: may have incited Jalen Carter's decision to spit on him
- 41:51Speaker 4: were non punishable.
- 41:53Speaker 3: So otherwise, in other words, well because you don't have
- 41:55Speaker 3: a rule, he didn't, he didn't touch him, he didn't.
- 41:58Speaker 4: Well, yeah they do, now don't they today?
- 42:01Speaker 3: Their emphasis?
- 42:02Speaker 4: Get this, this is how ironic because that was our
- 42:04Speaker 4: opening game for NFL. Correct, that was Thursday night. Yeah,
- 42:07Speaker 4: the emphasis of the NFL in twenty twenty five is
- 42:10Speaker 4: sportsmanship and before they even kicked the ball.
- 42:16Speaker 3: How ironic is that?
- 42:17Speaker 4: Right?
- 42:19Speaker 3: But they have rules.
- 42:20Speaker 4: I don't know if that's you know, there's a bunch,
- 42:22Speaker 4: but I don't know if that would qualify.
- 42:24Speaker 3: But I mean other than that, thoughe, I mean, I
- 42:27Speaker 3: just thought like this weekend of games were just like,
- 42:30Speaker 3: these were some of the best opening weekend games that
- 42:33Speaker 3: I've ever seen. I mean, when we talk about Ravens, Bills,
- 42:38Speaker 3: Minnesota had a good comeback win last night, Jet Stealers,
- 42:42Speaker 3: like this was I don't know what's in the water,
- 42:45Speaker 3: but generally in the first couple weeks of NFL or blah,
- 42:48Speaker 3: but these games were absolutely amazing. You talk about scoring,
- 42:52Speaker 3: you talk about comeback victories, you talk about storylines, you know,
- 42:55Speaker 3: Aaron Rodgers going back to the Jeets, and you know,
- 43:00Speaker 3: obviously the two competitive best teams in the a f
- 43:03Speaker 3: C outside of Kansas City, Bills and Ravens are playing.
- 43:07Speaker 3: You know, obviously the rival between the historic rival between
- 43:11Speaker 3: the Bears and the Vikings, and all the games were
- 43:14Speaker 3: just really, really good.
- 43:15Speaker 4: Do you think the NFL purposely like looked at the
- 43:18Speaker 4: schedule and so, you know what we gotta we gotta
- 43:20Speaker 4: hook them right out of the gate and scheduled all
- 43:23Speaker 4: of these big games. I mean they were not like
- 43:26Speaker 4: normal opening games for the NFL.
- 43:27Speaker 3: Conference games, right, Yeah. I don't think ever we opened
- 43:33Speaker 3: the season with a conference a team in conference, and
- 43:39Speaker 3: who you think could be really a good game. You know,
- 43:44Speaker 3: you start talking about Bears and Vikings, you're talking a game,
- 43:49Speaker 3: and I think even division like Tampa Bay. I think,
- 43:52Speaker 3: but did Tampa Bay? They played the Falcons, So it's like,
- 43:56Speaker 3: you know, the Cincinnati Bengals played the Browns. I think
- 44:00Speaker 3: this is the way you start to in conference. You
- 44:03Speaker 3: started in Robberies. Unlet's go if you like, said Cincinnati
- 44:08Speaker 3: and Cleveland in state. Basically, yeah, you got everybody in
- 44:12Speaker 3: the state, the Eagles and Cowboys like they started it out,
- 44:16Speaker 3: Kansas City Chargers they started this Rightings and Packers. Yeah. Yes,
- 44:21Speaker 3: Michael Parsons showed up wearing that nice number one right
- 44:26Speaker 3: out there. I'm over here just glowing as a Packer fan.
- 44:30Speaker 3: I mean I loved it.
- 44:31Speaker 4: I mean, I think he has made already one hundred
- 44:34Speaker 4: and fifty percent impact on the whole team, not just
- 44:38Speaker 4: the defense, the whole attitude of the whole team.
- 44:41Speaker 3: That offense.
- 44:42Speaker 4: Jordan Love plays with confidence knowing, Hey, if I turn
- 44:45Speaker 4: the ball over, I got Michael Parsons on the other side,
- 44:47Speaker 4: It's gonna get it right back for me.
- 44:49Speaker 3: And that loosens him up. In my opinion, undred percent
- 44:52Speaker 3: you had Travis Hunter. He I think they said he
- 44:56Speaker 3: got like thirty nine offensive plays, six to ten defensive
- 44:59Speaker 3: places up and again it's just it's Rex. Ryan had
- 45:03Speaker 3: a comment he talked about if he was coaching, he
- 45:07Speaker 3: would just playing on defense and and you know, because
- 45:11Speaker 3: you can't build with so many good corner shut down
- 45:14Speaker 3: cornerbacks and just have him a little package on offense.
- 45:17Speaker 3: I agree with that too. I just I didn't understand
- 45:20Speaker 3: him coming out as a receiver, like starting as a
- 45:22Speaker 3: receiver and just like being a specialist far as a
- 45:25Speaker 3: defensive because I'm thinking, if I have somebody that athletic,
- 45:28Speaker 3: he's defense for me, and then we'll build you a
- 45:30Speaker 3: package on the offense end. See, I think if you
- 45:33Speaker 3: let him be, if you let him be a corner
- 45:38Speaker 3: m h, I think he becomes a great corner. Forget receiver.
- 45:43Speaker 3: He used to forget to get receiver. I mean, he's
- 45:45Speaker 3: gonna he's gonna he's gonna catch some balls, he's gonna
- 45:48Speaker 3: run some routes, he might get a couple of touchdowns whatever.
- 45:51Speaker 3: But I don't know if anybody's going I would think
- 45:56Speaker 3: him being the shutdown guy to everybody that we play,
- 46:01Speaker 3: We're putting you on the guy. To me, that gets
- 46:05Speaker 3: you everything that you need. Yeah, I just don't think
- 46:08Speaker 3: like I'm just like playing cornerback. If you can do
- 46:12Speaker 3: that at a high level, do that, yes, because it's
- 46:15Speaker 3: just not easy to do that in football, particularly in
- 46:18Speaker 3: a past happy league. Like if you can play corner
- 46:20Speaker 3: at a high level, play corner, yeah, well we'll we'll
- 46:24Speaker 3: we'll throw you in a swing pass or something. We'll
- 46:26Speaker 3: get you. We don't need you, we don't need So
- 46:29Speaker 3: so what if you throw him a bomb an eighty
- 46:33Speaker 3: yard touchdown pass and okay it's a touchdown, you lose
- 46:36Speaker 3: the game? What what did that really do? He on
- 46:40Speaker 3: the other side, on the defensive side of the ball,
- 46:43Speaker 3: at corner, he can shut down. We're gonna use him
- 46:47Speaker 3: as our shutdown guy against everybody's top receiver, maybe even
- 46:52Speaker 3: your number two or maybe even your number two, you know,
- 46:55Speaker 3: and and we can account we can count on him
- 46:58Speaker 3: shutting him down. Yeah, So I don't know. I was
- 47:01Speaker 3: just that's just my paint. Aaron Rodgers. He looked great,
- 47:04Speaker 3: He did look good. He looked really good. And I
- 47:06Speaker 3: was the one who said I have to I have
- 47:08Speaker 3: to come back, I have to go back. And say
- 47:10Speaker 3: I was the one who's saying now, I said that too.
- 47:13Speaker 3: I was in agreement with you. Got it look good.
- 47:16Speaker 3: Let me just say this now again, I was wrong once.
- 47:21Speaker 3: Just one, just one, just one that was the only
- 47:23Speaker 3: one I was wrong. I'll say this just as a
- 47:29Speaker 3: just just as just as a player. Okay. I can
- 47:35Speaker 3: remember my my last season. Okay, I can remember I
- 47:39Speaker 3: felt like I was playing fine early on, early on
- 47:43Speaker 3: in the season, and then as as the season went on,
- 47:47Speaker 3: it took, you know, all of a sudden, a play
- 47:51Speaker 3: happened and I was like, oh, this is not Maybe
- 47:56Speaker 3: I don't have it, and I'm I'm I'm glad that
- 48:00Speaker 3: I walked away at the end of the season because
- 48:03Speaker 3: I just I couldn't. I could see stuff and couldn't
- 48:06Speaker 3: and couldn't make it happen. We've seen a lot of
- 48:09Speaker 3: players start the season off really great and a long season.
- 48:15Speaker 3: It's a long it's a long season. And I'm not
- 48:19Speaker 3: rooting against him, man, I'm admitting that I was wrong.
- 48:23Speaker 3: I didn't think he had that in him neither. I didn't,
- 48:25Speaker 3: you know. But I think also going to a place
- 48:29Speaker 3: like the Steelers helps too, because you're going to a
- 48:31Speaker 3: foundation or you're going to a steady organization. And I
- 48:35Speaker 3: also say, on the other end of that game, Justin
- 48:37Speaker 3: Fields looked great. Yeah, that was guy. He looked really,
- 48:42Speaker 3: he looks sharp. He was throwing the ball accurate. They
- 48:44Speaker 3: just kind of ran out of town. Derrick Henry Gosh.
- 48:49Speaker 3: I mean you're talking about like again, somebody thirty one,
- 48:53Speaker 3: thirty three whatever he is. That's old for a running back. Now, yeah,
- 48:56Speaker 3: I mean, good lord and still steal. I mean in
- 49:00Speaker 3: the mumble. Again, that was a tough game for the
- 49:03Speaker 3: for the Ravens. But other than the fumble, I mean,
- 49:05Speaker 3: he looked like a man child. So it was a
- 49:09Speaker 3: it was a great week. And and I don't want
- 49:11Speaker 3: to take anything. I don't want to take anything from him.
- 49:14Speaker 3: But because he has that kind of a mindset, you know,
- 49:20Speaker 3: he's there's there's a there's a ton of players don't
- 49:23Speaker 3: have that mindset that's out there. And now when you
- 49:25Speaker 3: give him the ball and he's got that type of
- 49:27Speaker 3: mindset and you he's running into the secondary, we ain't
- 49:32Speaker 3: trying to hit him. I mean, he looked, he looked
- 49:35Speaker 3: just as fast, he looked just as I mean, obviously
- 49:37Speaker 3: he's just as big. I mean he he's gonna it's
- 49:40Speaker 3: gonna be a loss. And I think that fumble, that
- 49:44Speaker 3: that might be the best thing that happened to him
- 49:46Speaker 3: this season, because I'm telling I doubt he fumbles the
- 49:49Speaker 3: ball again all seasons, and he's gonna be running with vengeance.
- 49:53Speaker 3: How heavy is it? Does anybody he's about? I was,
- 49:55Speaker 3: he's he's I want to say six two sixty three,
- 49:58Speaker 3: he's about two forty two fifty. He's in that ring.
- 50:02Speaker 3: But I mean you're talking about the guy runs like
- 50:03Speaker 3: a four five four four. But that's that's that's that's like,
- 50:06Speaker 3: that's like an Eric Dickerson type of situation. Bigger but bigger. Yeah,
- 50:11Speaker 3: And he does that Walter Payton workout where he does
- 50:13Speaker 3: like the hills and stuff like that. So he's doing that.
- 50:16Speaker 3: So he's a combination of both of them. I'm telling
- 50:18Speaker 3: you he's not as loose. You know, Walter Payton was
- 50:22Speaker 3: loose and he could sort of absorb those hits and bounces.
- 50:25Speaker 3: He ain't that, but he can run straight over you.
- 50:28Speaker 4: What do you guys think about the Chiefs being on
- 50:30Speaker 4: one like they lost to the Chargers? Although we you you,
- 50:34Speaker 4: I think it was you that said Charn be a sleep,
- 50:37Speaker 4: then be a sleep.
- 50:39Speaker 3: Yeah, what what I mean? Is it too soon to
- 50:41Speaker 3: say I'm saying I'm saying it's too soon. But I
- 50:45Speaker 3: will also preface that by saying, you can you can.
- 50:51Speaker 3: You can only be Yeah, you can only be that
- 50:55Speaker 3: team to go to the super Bowl, the team that
- 50:57Speaker 3: beats everybody only a couple of years. You can't. You
- 51:02Speaker 3: can't keep that.
- 51:03Speaker 4: I have the same players, basically, they haven't lost anybody significant.
- 51:07Speaker 3: But I just don't know their teams.
- 51:09Speaker 7: Figure you out, I say, you played a lot of
- 51:12Speaker 7: you played a lot of hard. You gotta think you've
- 51:16Speaker 7: been in the super Bowl for like basically the last
- 51:19Speaker 7: on the Super Bowl hunt last five six years. Yeah,
- 51:22Speaker 7: Like you're not playing seventeen games, you're playing up to
- 51:25Speaker 7: twenty twenty one, twenty two games. And I'm saying I
- 51:28Speaker 7: don't I think they're going to be competitive. I don't
- 51:31Speaker 7: think they go to the super Bowl this year.
- 51:32Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be a bit of a down year,
- 51:36Speaker 3: just because to your point, they played a lot of football.
- 51:40Speaker 3: It's it's going to catch up to you eventually. Is
- 51:42Speaker 3: it going to be the Vikings? Carl Gosh, I really
- 51:47Speaker 3: really really really wish I could say, yes, they look good.
- 51:51Speaker 3: They they did look good. They did, they did, they
- 51:54Speaker 3: really did. Again once his name McCarthy, Yeah and again.
- 52:00Speaker 3: Now you're talking about a young quarterback, now, okay, but
- 52:03Speaker 3: he found a way to lead the team. He really
- 52:06Speaker 3: he really did. I've seen a lot of young quarterbacks
- 52:11Speaker 3: during the time when I was playing with the Vikings
- 52:15Speaker 3: that started off great and for whatever reason, by the
- 52:19Speaker 3: time the end of the season, because it's it's new
- 52:24Speaker 3: sixteen seventeen eighteen games, yeah, I mean it's it's it's tough.
- 52:31Speaker 3: You lose the lineman, you know that you need to
- 52:34Speaker 3: help protect you, you get hit a few times. All
- 52:39Speaker 3: of a sudden, the game has a way of changing
- 52:43Speaker 3: because you go out and you play a game and
- 52:45Speaker 3: you feel like you played it well, and you're like, oh, okay,
- 52:48Speaker 3: this is really not you know, it's not all that right. Guarantee,
- 52:53Speaker 3: it's going to come a game that you're going to say,
- 52:56Speaker 3: oh my gosh and all that. Now they got some
- 52:59Speaker 3: tape you to absolutely, but I don't know, man, It's like,
- 53:04Speaker 3: I really like the way they show resiliency and came back.
- 53:07Speaker 3: And again that's a conference game, so that kind of
- 53:10Speaker 3: gives you the one up the NFC nor it is
- 53:13Speaker 3: gonna be tough this year and when is it not?
- 53:17Speaker 3: It's gonna be really tough. We might have a super
- 53:22Speaker 3: Bowl contender. In that vision, it's gonna be it's gonna
- 53:25Speaker 3: be tight wins that I mean, that's a that's a
- 53:29Speaker 3: big win. And I'm I mean you could look at
- 53:30Speaker 3: any one of those games and say, well, they'll split.
- 53:34Speaker 3: They can win and lose any one of those games,
- 53:36Speaker 3: you know, And then the question is is what is
- 53:40Speaker 3: their schedule on the outside, who are they playing? Who
- 53:43Speaker 3: they played? What conference? Are they messed up with this conference?
- 53:49Speaker 4: Then yeah, I'm not sure, but I think it's gonna
- 53:52Speaker 4: be an exciting an NFL season.
- 53:54Speaker 3: I do.
- 53:55Speaker 4: And I really think that it may be two completely
- 53:58Speaker 4: different teams in the NFL than what were you to.
- 54:00Speaker 4: I think there's a possibility.
- 54:01Speaker 3: I think people would I think people would like ready
- 54:05Speaker 3: for that.
- 54:05Speaker 4: Yeah, we're tired of the Chiefs and you know who
- 54:09Speaker 4: else has been Ravens Bills.
- 54:12Speaker 3: So everybody knows. Everybody knows. Okay that you know, I'm
- 54:16Speaker 3: I'm I'm I'm the guy who's looking for the for
- 54:19Speaker 3: the Vikings to win. So I know both if you
- 54:23Speaker 3: all have your own individual teams. What are you thinking
- 54:26Speaker 3: about your team? And who to say it out loud?
- 54:31Speaker 3: Who I mean? You know, like I said, I'm rolling
- 54:34Speaker 3: with the Bengals, and I'm you know, I always have
- 54:36Speaker 3: love for my Niners. But I get what, I don't
- 54:39Speaker 3: think nothing. But i'd say neither one. I mean, I
- 54:41Speaker 3: don't think. I don't see either one of them. Really,
- 54:44Speaker 3: you know. I think it's gonna be blid years. Maybe
- 54:46Speaker 3: make the playoffs. Bengals might make the playoffs, but you know,
- 54:51Speaker 3: again maybe, but I would say again, because you gotta
- 54:55Speaker 3: go through Pittsburgh, you gotta go through the Ravens. So
- 54:58Speaker 3: maybe we don't even make the playoffs. It's gonna be
- 55:00Speaker 3: tough playoffs. And then nine is they didn't have a
- 55:03Speaker 3: great start, but I think Shanahana find a way to
- 55:06Speaker 3: you know, pull through and the making the plus. But
- 55:08Speaker 3: don't think they gonna make no noise. Hmmm, Well you
- 55:11Speaker 3: know who I am?
- 55:13Speaker 4: I mean, I mean, I I don't are you asking
- 55:16Speaker 4: me if my team, the Packers, will make it to
- 55:18Speaker 4: the super Bowl.
- 55:19Speaker 3: What do I think they're going to do? They're going
- 55:22Speaker 3: to do? How do you think they're gonna.
- 55:24Speaker 4: I think they're gonna have a good season. I think
- 55:26Speaker 4: they're gonna win when they're supposed to, and they're gonna
- 55:28Speaker 4: have a couple of losses that they shouldn't lose just
- 55:30Speaker 4: because of their youth. I think they'll probably win the division.
- 55:34Speaker 4: That division, Well, I figured i'd get fired again since
- 55:44Speaker 4: I fired every week. But I mean, you know, they've
- 55:50Speaker 4: already beat one of their biggest you know, competitions in in.
- 55:54Speaker 3: The division, really the Lions. They were the ones that
- 55:57Speaker 3: won last year, right, I think Michael Parsons the top. Yeah,
- 56:01Speaker 3: I think they're gonna be really good.
- 56:03Speaker 4: As long as they Like I said before, everybody's got
- 56:05Speaker 4: to stay healthy, you know, and that's that's a factor
- 56:07Speaker 4: for every team in the NFL or any college level
- 56:10Speaker 4: for that matter.
- 56:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm hoping. I'm hoping that we can. We can
- 56:19Speaker 3: have a great offense. I think defensively, I think we
- 56:23Speaker 3: can be fine. I think, you know, we've always been
- 56:27Speaker 3: able to get out of and and and do okay defensively.
- 56:30Speaker 3: And but on the offensive side, we needed we needed
- 56:34Speaker 3: a solid quarterback. We need like you've got one. I know,
- 56:40Speaker 3: I'm saying we've always needed a solid quarterback. Now he
- 56:44Speaker 3: while young I think there's opportunities for us to run
- 56:48Speaker 3: the ball, and there's opportunities for us to throw the ball.
- 56:50Speaker 3: So I think that gives us an opportunity to be
- 56:54Speaker 3: in the hunt the runner up.
- 56:57Speaker 6: Right.
- 57:00Speaker 3: Actually, I'm actually gonna actually think that we can win it.
- 57:03Speaker 4: Okay, nf C North, what's on the line here?
- 57:08Speaker 3: Do you need? You have to wear my cheese hat
- 57:10Speaker 3: in the studio if we win the division? Okay? Okay,
- 57:14Speaker 3: and then what okay, and I'll do whatever. I'll wear
- 57:17Speaker 3: a Vikings jurgey. Yeah, ridiculous. We'll get your journey. You
- 57:20Speaker 3: gotta get the horns. I'll blow the horn. Okay, Yeah,
- 57:25Speaker 3: there you go. All right, Will anybody got anybody anything else?
- 57:30Speaker 3: Anything else? We can wrap up? Enough? All right, ladies
- 57:35Speaker 3: and gentlemen. I hope you enjoyed the show and we
- 57:37Speaker 3: will be back again next week
