Novel semiconductor could hold key to unlocking solar efficiency limits, Oxford-Wuhan teams show
Researchers from the UK and China have identified a novel semiconductor material that bypasses a fundamental constraint in solar technology, potentially paving the way for significantly more efficient photovoltaic panels. Published in the science journal Nature, the study reveals that bismuth sulfide, a crystalline semiconductor compound, can absorb sunlight intensely while retaining its electrical charges longer than conventional materials.
The study was a collaboration between University of Oxford and China’s Wuhan University, according to a press release.
