- 0:09Speaker 2: Brad, I just in studio here with it, just toyota, Brad.
- 0:12Speaker 2: You brought friends, I do.
- 0:14Speaker 3: I've got Randall Jones and his son justin here with
- 0:17Speaker 3: me this morning.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Welcome. Say hello to everyone. Hello, Hello to everybody out
- 0:22Speaker 2: there listening and watching us. It's a great day here
- 0:25Speaker 2: in Bars.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Well, it sure is a pretty morning this morning. It
- 0:29Speaker 3: was not as cold as it has been, but still cool.
- 0:32Speaker 3: And it may be more like May, but it is
- 0:36Speaker 3: still a nice day. And I was busy on the
- 0:39Speaker 3: on the lot this morning and in service. And yeah,
- 0:42Speaker 3: I just got back last night from a little spring
- 0:45Speaker 3: break trip, got to Bridge two weeks whom my oldest
- 0:50Speaker 3: son was there for the last half and my youngest
- 0:52Speaker 3: for the first half because and we've.
- 0:55Speaker 2: All got together. Family getting together this time of year
- 0:59Speaker 2: is important, and yeah, it sure is.
- 1:03Speaker 3: And anyway, I'm back and trying to get everything oriented
- 1:07Speaker 3: here this morning. But you guys are here representing Past Independence,
- 1:12Speaker 3: which is a great organization.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Hadn't been around that long in Bartlesville.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Here, so yeah, twenty thirteen is when they became accredited.
- 1:23Speaker 2: But Justin's a student at PTI, so he loves it.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Yeah, that's good. How does that help you? What do
- 1:29Speaker 3: you what do you like the most about it?
- 1:31Speaker 5: I guess probably the by track ensuring Jesus is.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Love okay, and tell us about the by track.
- 1:40Speaker 5: So there's this huge bike track out on the playground,
- 1:43Speaker 5: and I ride bikes most of the time.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I like to ride a bike.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Two. Yeah, that's it's a lot of fun it and
- 1:53Speaker 3: having their way to kind of mix things together so
- 1:55Speaker 3: you can have fun learn some stuff too.
- 1:58Speaker 6: That's important, isn't it?
- 2:00Speaker 3: Sure?
- 2:01Speaker 2: Kind of keeps that.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Keeps you interested. How did you guys get involved in
- 2:06Speaker 3: past independence.
- 2:09Speaker 2: A few years ago? We've been here coming up.
- 2:11Speaker 4: We're heading into year three, so uh, you know with
- 2:17Speaker 4: autism and kind of just bringing awareness to that is
- 2:20Speaker 4: as we got that diagnosis and Saul justin just not
- 2:26Speaker 4: not thriving in a traditional classroom setting, and PTI has
- 2:30Speaker 4: been a great opportunity to help him learn and and socially,
- 2:37Speaker 4: educationally and mentally just thrive. And so it's been been
- 2:43Speaker 4: a huge blessing. PTI is a is a great place
- 2:46Speaker 4: for for students who don't learn in a traditional way
- 2:49Speaker 4: because they have because they're different.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Well, I mean I think, yeah, we've kind of learned
- 2:54Speaker 3: that this is not everybody learns the same way now,
- 3:00Speaker 3: and you know, we all need to learn learning to
- 3:03Speaker 3: learn and to kind of the building blocks of life
- 3:06Speaker 3: come from from how you experience, uh those.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Especially the early part of school and getting to be
- 3:14Speaker 2: comfortable in your environment.
- 3:16Speaker 3: And yeah, I think it's it's really important to have.
- 3:20Speaker 4: That learned that autism is not a disability, it's different ability.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yeah, No, that's good.
- 3:32Speaker 3: It's uh yeah, I mean I think as we you know,
- 3:35Speaker 3: as it's kind of more in the news now too,
- 3:39Speaker 3: and autism is is uh, you know, I think it's
- 3:42Speaker 3: raready been around forever, but now it's kind of more visible.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And instead of having the.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Standard path that everybody just has to walk down the
- 3:51Speaker 3: same path, having new things like past independence are are
- 3:55Speaker 3: super important so that there's a place that that you
- 3:59Speaker 3: feel good going to school and to learn.
- 4:02Speaker 2: What are some of the things you're learning there?
- 4:04Speaker 7: Mmmm mmmm, just stuff?
- 4:08Speaker 2: So what are some things you have coming up with
- 4:10Speaker 2: past independent?
- 4:12Speaker 7: Why did up blue.
- 4:15Speaker 2: In the race and what is that? What's the part
- 4:17Speaker 2: of that race for uh?
- 4:19Speaker 7: To help spread autism.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Awareness awareness Okay, what else? You got a few other
- 4:25Speaker 2: things coming up to special Olympics.
- 4:29Speaker 6: Uh huh, that's where I've been in the month.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah, And don't you have a is there a sign
- 4:34Speaker 2: spear coming up?
- 4:35Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 4:35Speaker 7: Those are signs were coming up.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 4:37Speaker 7: When is it April first?
- 4:38Speaker 2: Do you have a project for that?
- 4:40Speaker 3: Oh?
- 4:40Speaker 7: Yeah? What's about the chicken body? What the chicken body
- 4:46Speaker 7: and its life cycle?
- 4:48Speaker 3: Oh? Okay, that's interesting? And what uh tell me more
- 4:53Speaker 3: about it? What is it you're gonna how you're going
- 4:55Speaker 3: to tell explain that to people in your project?
- 4:57Speaker 7: I don't know yet.
- 4:58Speaker 2: You haven't quite figure to out.
- 5:00Speaker 3: There's a process there and then you kind of got
- 5:02Speaker 3: to start with a goal and build it. Uh that's exciting. Yeah,
- 5:07Speaker 3: that's good.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Do you have you're you're familiar with chickens? You got
- 5:12Speaker 2: some chicken?
- 5:14Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 5:15Speaker 2: Yeah? Last year? Telling me about your project last year?
- 5:18Speaker 2: Would you do last year?
- 5:19Speaker 6: Hydro ponks hydropon Okay?
- 5:22Speaker 2: What about that?
- 5:24Speaker 5: So the process so the caffish poop helped plants grow
- 5:33Speaker 5: and then the plants could get like more of.
- 5:35Speaker 7: The mhm, there was a cafish.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Okay, pump the water.
- 5:43Speaker 5: We had to pump the water too, and it caused
- 5:46Speaker 5: what caused what seeds to seeds to grow?
- 5:52Speaker 3: Yeah, you gotta have water and light and oxygen so
- 6:00Speaker 3: that the plants grow, right, Yeah, that's cool. And what
- 6:05Speaker 3: kind of plants for did you grow or did you
- 6:08Speaker 3: actually grow plants?
- 6:09Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 6:10Speaker 4: I forgot okay, I think you had a couple of tomatoes.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Start to that's that's neat.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah, they ever thought of having a garden at home
- 6:22Speaker 3: or do you guys have one?
- 6:23Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, okay, Well that's good too. That's all.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I think that's a fun process to do when you're
- 6:30Speaker 3: when you're young, watching you know, the work you put
- 6:32Speaker 3: in on things, so the family works together to create
- 6:35Speaker 3: stuff and then you get to eat it. Yeah, that's fun. Well,
- 6:44Speaker 3: that's that's super cool.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:46Speaker 3: There's a thing at the dealership we have called sparks,
- 6:49Speaker 3: which is sincere partnerships aligned, resilient kaisan.
- 6:53Speaker 6: Makes us all superheroes.
- 6:56Speaker 3: And I think, you know, there's a lot of that
- 6:57Speaker 3: in past to independence that you know that you start
- 7:01Speaker 3: with the sincerity and building partnerships and figuring people out aligned,
- 7:06Speaker 3: you know, so that we're we're kind of working on
- 7:08Speaker 3: the same stuff, and then resilient because we're not always
- 7:12Speaker 3: gonna it's gonna be. You know, life is full of
- 7:15Speaker 3: challenges and we're gonna have to work through things. And
- 7:18Speaker 3: then kaizen is a Japanese word that means continuous improvement.
- 7:24Speaker 2: It's about having.
- 7:25Speaker 3: It's allowed communication, but also you know, having that information
- 7:29Speaker 3: you need at the time you need it to do
- 7:31Speaker 3: what you do, and then continuously change, improving your processes
- 7:37Speaker 3: and not losing processes. I know in a business, a
- 7:40Speaker 3: lot of times you start something and it eroads, it
- 7:44Speaker 3: doesn't it doesn't keep going right, and.
- 7:47Speaker 2: That can be I'm sure that happens in.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Small farms and ran teams stuff too, and so and
- 7:54Speaker 3: then we say that makes us all superheroes.
- 7:58Speaker 2: And that's that's what school is about.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I think in a lot of ways, it's like past independence.
- 8:03Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, that's that's cool.
- 8:08Speaker 2: So uh uh, Light Up the Blue is coming up?
- 8:13Speaker 2: When is that?
- 8:14Speaker 4: Remember these dates for Lighting Up Blue are going to
- 8:17Speaker 4: be is April.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Eleven. April eleven, and so it's off at eight a m.
- 8:25Speaker 2: The five K does and then at eight ten the
- 8:27Speaker 2: fun Run will start.
- 8:29Speaker 4: This year, they've got two new routes, so you're going
- 8:31Speaker 4: to a couple of different route paths this year than
- 8:33Speaker 4: the ones they've been doing, and so our.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Whole family's registered. We're ready to go. Fun you're going
- 8:40Speaker 2: to do the fun runner. Yeah, fun run.
- 8:43Speaker 4: You know you're training, been trained for special Olympics in
- 8:49Speaker 4: the process.
- 8:50Speaker 2: What's your vet special?
- 8:54Speaker 7: And fifty r dash?
- 8:57Speaker 2: Oh boy, you're a speed guy. Yeah, that's good. Did
- 9:02Speaker 2: bowling earlier this year, That's that's fine.
- 9:08Speaker 6: Yeah, I like to run and stuff.
- 9:10Speaker 2: That's that's good.
- 9:12Speaker 3: It's kind of a process too, And another thing like
- 9:15Speaker 3: the gardening, where you got to start and you get
- 9:18Speaker 3: a little better with time. And it's not a it's
- 9:21Speaker 3: not a it happened quick. Even about fifty r dash.
- 9:26Speaker 3: It's a short amount of time. But to be good
- 9:29Speaker 3: at it, you kind of got to start early and
- 9:32Speaker 3: keep working on it.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Face yourself. Have you gotten faster as you've been getting ready? Yeah? Okay,
- 9:39Speaker 2: time's got better every time you run. So awesome. That's
- 9:43Speaker 2: all we can ask for, right, No, it is that's
- 9:46Speaker 2: that's uh yeah, No, that's one thing i I've I
- 9:50Speaker 2: think it's important too. It's not.
- 9:52Speaker 3: It's not you're not racing necessarily against everybody else always.
- 9:56Speaker 3: You know there'll be people when your race but the
- 9:59Speaker 3: truth is you're kind of racing you with yourself and
- 10:03Speaker 3: instant really, you know, at the at the heart of
- 10:07Speaker 3: fitness and conditioning for life is that mentality of building blocks,
- 10:13Speaker 3: and it's one one thing at a time. I used
- 10:16Speaker 3: to run a lot, and then I could I got
- 10:18Speaker 3: injured and I could have had to stop running and.
- 10:20Speaker 6: Figure out other stuff to do that would give me that.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Same same benefit that you know, And it all started
- 10:27Speaker 3: with a motivation, right, I wanted to When I.
- 10:31Speaker 6: Was a kid, I got to go skiing and I
- 10:33Speaker 6: really really liked that, and.
- 10:36Speaker 3: I realized being from Oklahoma, I couldn't I wasn't going
- 10:39Speaker 3: to have that many opportunities to do that.
- 10:41Speaker 6: So I had to be in shape so that I
- 10:43Speaker 6: could ski all day when we got up there.
- 10:46Speaker 3: And that at almost sixty five now, it's still something
- 10:51Speaker 3: I think about every morning when I get up, I
- 10:53Speaker 3: do my training, and and that's where my family was
- 10:57Speaker 3: last week.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I've gotten there.
- 10:58Speaker 3: We were all having fun one out there on the mountain,
- 11:01Speaker 3: and that's a that's a great time. It's a lot
- 11:05Speaker 3: of fun. So you can look for opportunities like that,
- 11:09Speaker 3: things you find passionate and give you a goal.
- 11:12Speaker 2: So as you go forwards.
- 11:13Speaker 3: That's that's another part of the sparks is tapping into
- 11:17Speaker 3: your own personal.
- 11:20Speaker 6: You know, kind of desires and what you want to
- 11:23Speaker 6: do and aligning those.
- 11:25Speaker 2: With your career and work.
- 11:27Speaker 3: I think makes it all, you know, not just about
- 11:30Speaker 3: making money and crunching the clock and such. But people
- 11:34Speaker 3: really like to be a part of something bigger and
- 11:37Speaker 3: and that's that's why we have things like past independence
- 11:41Speaker 3: on the show.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Have you ever been on the radio or anything like
- 11:44Speaker 2: this before.
- 11:46Speaker 6: It's kind of kind of fun, isn't it.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 11:52Speaker 2: I like it.
- 11:55Speaker 4: What's the mascot at PTI a moose? So the PTI
- 11:59Speaker 4: moo moots?
- 12:00Speaker 2: What what is? What is that represent?
- 12:03Speaker 4: I think they voted right a few years back when
- 12:06Speaker 4: they were looking for a mascot and the moose went out,
- 12:11Speaker 4: and I think there was a panda was another one
- 12:14Speaker 4: that was a finalist, But I think at the end
- 12:16Speaker 4: of the day, everyone voted to be moose. So we
- 12:21Speaker 4: like being a moose, don't we know?
- 12:24Speaker 2: That's good. You know, I've seen a couple of moose
- 12:30Speaker 2: in the wild and that's a little bit scary. Yeah,
- 12:37Speaker 2: you don't want to be you want to be very gentle.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Let them have their space, and I went to outdoor
- 12:49Speaker 3: camping thing. They told us if you ever do that, just.
- 12:52Speaker 6: Lay down and let them pass, let them do not
- 12:56Speaker 6: let them see you if you can avoid it.
- 12:59Speaker 2: So, who are of your friends at pt I you
- 13:01Speaker 2: like hanging out with?
- 13:03Speaker 7: Probably Parker and Talker and Oliver.
- 13:09Speaker 2: What are some of the things you guys like to
- 13:10Speaker 2: do together?
- 13:11Speaker 7: Uh, probably like ride bikes and hang out.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yeah, to hang out and have fun. Guys, that's good.
- 13:20Speaker 2: How many people are in your class?
- 13:22Speaker 3: You know?
- 13:24Speaker 1: Uh?
- 13:28Speaker 7: I think about seven.
- 13:32Speaker 3: That's a good, nice number, not too big, does it?
- 13:36Speaker 3: Do you guys go to different classes? I'm not sure.
- 13:39Speaker 4: They rotate, rotate, they rotate for subjects, you know, do
- 13:44Speaker 4: all the all the things. They teach us a lot
- 13:47Speaker 4: of things about how to be independent. So what are
- 13:49Speaker 4: some things they do to help teach us how to
- 13:51Speaker 4: be independent for ourselves?
- 13:54Speaker 2: What are some things you work on?
- 13:56Speaker 7: Probably being respectful.
- 13:59Speaker 2: To the creamery? Yeah, and you work down there, you
- 14:03Speaker 2: work do some stuff down there?
- 14:07Speaker 7: Yeah, well only be.
- 14:09Speaker 2: One well, and then you have jobs in the morning too,
- 14:11Speaker 2: and you get there. What are some of the jobs
- 14:13Speaker 2: you do when you get there in the morning.
- 14:14Speaker 7: Probably leap, blow, and wait when I first started, we
- 14:22Speaker 7: started using a push my work.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Oh cool, I learned how to.
- 14:28Speaker 8: You know.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and they've been raising some money for what what
- 14:32Speaker 2: have you been raising money for a go car? Why
- 14:35Speaker 2: do you why do they need to buy a go cart?
- 14:37Speaker 7: So then we could teach people how.
- 14:40Speaker 3: To drive, how to drive a car with gas, pedal
- 14:42Speaker 3: and braid and you can. That's me so lots of cool. Yeah,
- 14:48Speaker 3: come and see, uh, that would be a cool idea.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Just come out through the dealership and see how how
- 14:54Speaker 3: things work there, because we deal with cars or we
- 14:56Speaker 3: fix someone they break down.
- 14:58Speaker 2: There was a.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Big tundra with its engine all taking apart that they're
- 15:03Speaker 3: rebuilding and also have a body shop or when they
- 15:08Speaker 3: get in an accident or something, they put them back
- 15:10Speaker 3: together and fix them. They go through the what they
- 15:14Speaker 3: call the body side where you put the car back together,
- 15:17Speaker 3: and then the paint side where they get painted on.
- 15:19Speaker 3: And yeah, if you guys have a go kart, you
- 15:22Speaker 3: may you'll have to a little. They have to do
- 15:25Speaker 3: maintenance for sure on it and you know, make sure
- 15:29Speaker 3: that it's got oil in it and gas and that
- 15:33Speaker 3: all the parts are working properly. And then you can
- 15:37Speaker 3: you'll be confident when you get behind the wheel and
- 15:40Speaker 3: can drive that.
- 15:41Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Have you thought much about what you want to do in.
- 15:44Speaker 3: The future At this point you have to have goals
- 15:47Speaker 3: for the next few years or even like a career
- 15:50Speaker 3: or anything.
- 15:51Speaker 6: What are your thoughts on that.
- 15:54Speaker 7: So I want to go to college and play football
- 15:58Speaker 7: and then go off.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Soo oh awesome, that's a great goal. You like being
- 16:03Speaker 3: on an idea of being on a team.
- 16:06Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Team environments are good. Yeah.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Football is a fun sport too. Have you played any
- 16:14Speaker 3: football yet?
- 16:15Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 16:16Speaker 7: Only once.
- 16:17Speaker 2: But I did not go that.
- 16:18Speaker 6: Well, it didn't What do you mean, just don't like it?
- 16:24Speaker 3: Okay, Well, I think you got to find that right
- 16:27Speaker 3: position for you. Yeah, and that's like like the fifty
- 16:32Speaker 3: yard dash. You get faster as you start practicing and
- 16:35Speaker 3: working on it, and so get comfortable in a.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Position and listen to those coaches and your team will
- 16:43Speaker 2: help you too.
- 16:44Speaker 9: I know.
- 16:44Speaker 2: That's one of the great things about teams.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Both of my sons were on played soccer mostly and
- 16:52Speaker 3: eventually at least and that they learned a lot about
- 16:56Speaker 3: working together. They were goalkeepers, so they had to try
- 16:59Speaker 3: to stock up the ball, get from getting in the goal,
- 17:02Speaker 3: And it's not not much glory in that position. Is
- 17:06Speaker 3: there's a problem, it's usually your fault and and then
- 17:10Speaker 3: if you and if it goes well, somebody else gets
- 17:13Speaker 3: the gets all the glory and you so but it's
- 17:18Speaker 3: a great position and as you learn a lot of
- 17:21Speaker 3: about yourself and your teammates and.
- 17:24Speaker 2: And it's in all sports are that way. Yeah, that's good. Well,
- 17:32Speaker 2: do you have any other hobbies or things you like
- 17:34Speaker 2: to do? What are we going to go do today? Fish? Oh,
- 17:40Speaker 2: that's a good one. Yeah, I do too. This time
- 17:43Speaker 2: of year is offul is a good good time. Yeah.
- 17:46Speaker 2: What kind of fish do you like to catch?
- 17:48Speaker 7: Well, catfish, crappie in.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Mass Yeah, and you have a pond do you like
- 17:56Speaker 2: to fish in?
- 17:57Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 17:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's my how I into fishing. On fishing.
- 18:02Speaker 3: It's fun from the bank, and it takes a little
- 18:05Speaker 3: different process with each kind of fish to catch it
- 18:08Speaker 3: doesn't different baits and different strategies.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Yeah, which is your favorite?
- 18:18Speaker 5: Like what do you mean, well, just to catch probably catfish?
- 18:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, what kind of bait do you use for
- 18:28Speaker 2: your catfish?
- 18:34Speaker 7: And then Cooley chicken.
- 18:39Speaker 6: Your recipe? Yeah, the recipes.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot of interesting things people put together
- 18:47Speaker 3: to catch catfish.
- 18:48Speaker 2: They like things that the smell. I think for sure
- 18:53Speaker 2: that's great. Yeah, I know that.
- 18:55Speaker 6: That's sure good to have you guys on the show today.
