- 0:26Hi everyone. Welcome to Mini Scroll, the
- 0:30daily Internet culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories
- 0:33from social media, the creator economy and the digital space.
- 0:37Every Monday through Thursday and sometimes Fridays.
- 0:40I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, the founder of the youth digital
- 0:44media brand Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll
- 0:48everyone. OK, the only update that I have
- 0:50for you guys is just a little high stakes news.
- 0:53So if you didn't listen to last week's episode, then you might
- 0:56not know that they now do weekly mini episodes where they dive
- 1:01into the biggest feuds of the week, like celebrity pop culture
- 1:04feuds of the week, kind of like mini scroll, but specifically
- 1:08for celebrity beef. I keep calling them mini beef
- 1:11and the girls are like it's called the grill.
- 1:13And I'm like I think mini beef it just rolls off the tongue.
- 1:16Mini scroll mini beef. Anyways, so they're going to do
- 1:191 those every single week and then they're still going to do 2
- 1:22deep dives a month. So you guys are going to be
- 1:24getting 6 episodes from them a month and this is the first week
- 1:27where you are getting 2 episodes from them.
- 1:29All right, let's get into the stories for today, but before I
- 1:32do, Please remember to rate, review and subscribe please
- 1:36Spotify star ratings, We're trying to get to 1000 Spotify
- 1:38star ratings by the end of the year.
- 1:40OK the first story that I have for you guys is I'm going to
- 1:43break down the group 7 meme and how people are combining the
- 1:46group 7 meme with the Louvre getting robbed.
- 1:50SO2 trends are literally sweeping TikTok group 7 and get
- 1:55ready with me to rob the Louvre. People are intertwining these in
- 1:59the most insane ways. So group 7 to start is a viral
- 2:03in joke that started from musician Sophia James.
- 2:06Sophia released a new song called So Unfair, and to promote
- 2:10it on TikTok. She decided to try and like take
- 2:13on the algorithm where she posted several videos in a row
- 2:16to see which one would get the most traction.
- 2:18Her videos were basically like, if you see this, you're in Group
- 2:22one. If you see this, you're in Group
- 2:232 all the way up until group seven.
- 2:25Group 7 is simply the video that got the most traction.
- 2:29It got the most views. It had 8 million views in just a
- 2:31couple of days. And it's, you know, just
- 2:33absolutely exploded because being in Group 7 has become this
- 2:37in joke. Like I said, I mean an in joke
- 2:39amongst millions, but still everybody is joking that Group 7
- 2:44is elite, Group 7 is superior. And now users have merged Group
- 2:487 memes with jokes about the Louvre being robbed.
- 2:53So I'm sure you guys have seen but yesterday the Louvre in
- 2:56Paris was robbed and people are combining Group 7 with like
- 3:00heist jokes. Being like robbers are
- 3:03definitely part of group 7. Get ready with me to rob the
- 3:07Louvre as part of group 7. People are doing fit checks like
- 3:10what I would wear if I was going to rob the museum.
- 3:12It's truly insane. It's peak TikTok brain rot humor
- 3:16and I love it. So that's an explainer on Group
- 3:197. If you guys have seen Group 7
- 3:20everywhere, that's what it means.
- 3:22It's really just like this very simple in joke.
- 3:24OK, the next story that I have for you guys is I wanted to talk
- 3:28about this somber TikTok fan backlash and what's been going
- 3:31on with him. I wanted to say Annabelle told
- 3:34me on Monday to cover this story, but I didn't know what
- 3:36she was saying because obviously she has an Australian accent.
- 3:39I've lived in Australia for almost 10 years.
- 3:42My husband is Australian, tons of my friends colleagues are
- 3:45Australian, but I don't know. I was hearing her say samba,
- 3:50like the dance. And I was like, OK, are you
- 3:53talking about Dancing with the Stars?
- 3:54And I was just like, oh, yeah, OK, maybe, but I already have
- 3:57three stories, no worries. No, she was saying somber, like
- 4:00the singer, the musician. And so today I was like, Oh my
- 4:04God, is that what you were referring to?
- 4:05Because people have been asking us now to cover it.
- 4:07And she was like, yeah, I'm like, Oh my God, dead.
- 4:10OK, so the newly viral singer Somber, whose real name is Shane
- 4:15Boos, has found himself at the center of a TikTok debate after
- 4:18a fan posted a review of one of his concerts.
- 4:21And he proceeded to respond. And people have really turned on
- 4:25him for his response. Somber has two really viral
- 4:28singles, back to Friends and Undressed.
- 4:31And because of this, he's built quite a culty fanbase online.
- 4:34Earlier this week, a Tik Toker named Meg, who was apparently 25
- 4:38years old. That's important.
- 4:40Made a video reviewing his show, his tour that she recently went
- 4:44to and she described it as quote, one of the worst
- 4:47experiences of my life. So excited to see this
- 4:49performance Fr Genuinely the worst concert I've ever been to
- 4:52in my life for a multitude of reasons, but I'm going to
- 4:55explain to you why if you're over the age of 16 you should
- 4:58not spend your money on a somber.
- 4:59Concert, She said. It was, quote, the closest to a
- 5:01middle school dance I've ever been since I was in middle
- 5:04school. And she said that the only
- 5:07adults in the room appeared to be parents of young fans, plus
- 5:10her and her boyfriend. This actually reminds me of
- 5:14something that happened in my real life.
- 5:15It wasn't to me, but two of my friends, a couple went to the
- 5:19Alex Warren concert recently in Sydney, like just a few weeks
- 5:21ago. And I was asking my friend like,
- 5:23how was it? And she was like, it was OK.
- 5:27It was just like a lot of families and young kids.
- 5:31Like, it was mostly just full of young kids.
- 5:34And I was like, well, yeah, he's a Tik toker.
- 5:35He was part of the hype house. He's also really young.
- 5:39And she had no idea. Like, she just knew him from the
- 5:41ordinary, you know, his giant song.
- 5:43She had no idea that he was a Tik Toker.
- 5:45And I was like, yeah, of course. Like, of course, this audience
- 5:47is so young. But she literally had no idea.
- 5:49And she was like, yeah, it was a little bit weird.
- 5:51And they also left early because Meg, she said that she left
- 5:54early from this concert. So she said basically she found
- 5:57there was like humor throughout the concert and she found it to
- 6:01be really immature. She said at one point he made a
- 6:036-7 joke, which we know is like a Gen. alpha joke.
- 6:06Basically. She said he hosted like a somber
- 6:08dating show segment where young fans were encouraged to call
- 6:12their toxic acts on stage. She called it cringe.
- 6:16She also said a lot of his jokes felt inappropriate given the age
- 6:20of his audience. And yes, she said she left
- 6:22before it ended. So this went really viral and
- 6:25people for the most part were actually on somber side.
- 6:27And then he responded in his own TikTok, calling this whole
- 6:32situation TikTok drama. I totally respect people having
- 6:35opinions but I am a 20 year old artist freshly 20 and if you're
- 6:3825 years old and and you're going to come to my concert and
- 6:41not expect people younger than you to be there when I the
- 6:45artist and five years younger than you, it's just a skill
- 6:48issue. Also like the jokes thing like
- 6:50you have to have known about my online presence before coming to
- 6:53my concert. I mean anyone who knows me knows
- 6:55I've never uttered a serious word in my life.
- 6:57And also I make jokes for 5 minutes of the concert and the
- 7:00rest is music. Like live a little, enjoy life.
- 7:03He also said at one point that everyone's welcome at his shows
- 7:06despite being like, if you expect people to be your age, if
- 7:10you're coming to my show at the ancient age of 25 years old,
- 7:15like that's a skill issue. Insane.
- 7:17So ironic. So yes, basically just full
- 7:20clapping back. Meg has since responded saying
- 7:23she's received more backlash over this concert saga than for
- 7:27any of her political posts, which is what she usually posts.
- 7:30OK so I'm not super across samba.
- 7:32I had heard his viral songs, obviously, but I literally only
- 7:36just discovered who he is through the situation.
- 7:39I've seen some mixed things online.
- 7:41I've seen that he over sexualizes himself.
- 7:44He like grabs his crotch while performing.
- 7:46He gets his fans to bark at him. Apparently he calls himself
- 7:50daddy to them while they're all really young, right?
- 7:53They're tweens, They're teens. But then I've seen other people
- 7:56say, well, like, it's not really his fault that his audience is
- 7:59so young. He doesn't market himself as a
- 8:01tween performer. He's not like a Disney star, you
- 8:04know, He's not trying to intentionally appeal to that
- 8:06audience. That's just who he's found and
- 8:09he shouldn't change his performance style because of his
- 8:12audience because that's not who he's trying to appeal to.
- 8:14However, I guess now with this situation, maybe you could argue
- 8:18that he actually does want to appeal to people who are under
- 8:2120s, so tweens and teens. After saying that 25 is
- 8:25basically ancient and they shouldn't be going to a show,
- 8:28Might I note that anyone who's in their mid 20s, late 20s, even
- 8:32early 30s, you know, like we're the ones with disposable income
- 8:36to support your career, to go to your show, to buy your merch.
- 8:39Like most of us don't have kids yet, maybe not mortgages yet.
- 8:42Like those are the people that can afford to actually support
- 8:45you in your endeavors. Now, as someone who is a lot
- 8:50older than 20 and 25, I will say there definitely is a difference
- 8:55between those two ages. But at the end of the day, the
- 8:58more distance that you get from like your early to mid 20's, the
- 9:02more you look back on it. And it's like, yeah, there might
- 9:04be a lot of life that's lived between 20 and 25.
- 9:07But in terms of who you are as a person, when I can look back
- 9:11now, it's almost like 10 years ago for me.
- 9:12I'm like, OK, I was a baby in both of those instances.
- 9:16Both of those ages are just like total babies compared to the
- 9:20rest of your life. And I fear for somber this was
- 9:23truly the least PR savvy thing he could have done.
- 9:26I know he's young, I know he's new to fame, but criticism, even
- 9:30if it feels targeted, even if it feels nasty, is unfortunately
- 9:35part of the game in this social media ecosystem if you want to
- 9:39be a famous artist. I'm not saying it's necessarily
- 9:42right, but it is part of it. And he got so much success and
- 9:45fame from TikTok. So at the end of the day, like
- 9:48that's where people are going to be talking about you.
- 9:50It's a double edged sword, you know?
- 9:52Unfortunately, the benefits of having a platform like TikTok,
- 9:56being able to be discovered so quickly, have your songs go
- 9:59viral, all of that has made it infinitely easier in some ways
- 10:04to reach what he has reached. But the downside of it, a
- 10:08negative review of your concert could go absolutely viral.
- 10:11And now everyone's talking about how your audience is like 12
- 10:15years old, but it seems like he wants his audience to be 12.
- 10:18So I don't really know. Anyways, the next story that I
- 10:20have for you guys is I'm going to break down the Keira Cousins
- 10:24fake pregnancy saga. This is really sad.
- 10:27I mean, I do believe there's a lot of mental health stuff going
- 10:29on in the story, so keep that in mind while I tell it.
- 10:33So Kira Cousins is a 22 year old from Scotland.
- 10:35She's going viral right now for faking a pregnancy, faking a
- 10:39birth and faking having a baby with a reborn doll.
- 10:43So if you're not familiar, reborn dolls are very expensive
- 10:47life looking dolls that are created to very much look and
- 10:50feel like a real baby. Some of them also can move,
- 10:53which apparently Kira's did. And I believe the main purpose
- 10:57of reborn dolls is for women who have experienced infant loss and
- 11:01miscarriage. So this is how the story goes.
- 11:04Kira allegedly fell pregnant shortly after she started dating
- 11:08her boyfriend, and apparently the baby's father and family
- 11:11weren't super supportive because they were not dating for very
- 11:13long. Kira continues on with the
- 11:15pregnancy. She's posting about it online,
- 11:18including her baby shower scans. She has a visible bump growing a
- 11:23few months into her pregnancy. She even posts about how the
- 11:26baby has a heart defect. And then Kira announces that on
- 11:29October 10th, she had a baby. She had a baby girl named Bonnie
- 11:34Lee. Kira apparently told a friend
- 11:35that there were tensions between her and the baby's father, so
- 11:38she decided to give birth alone. Suspicions arose when Kira took
- 11:42Bonnie to meet Bonnie's dad. So like the baby's dad and the
- 11:47baby's dad's mom noticed that the baby was cold and wasn't
- 11:51moving. So apparently Kira played along
- 11:53and was like, I'm going to rush the baby to the hospital.
- 11:55And then she told them that the hospital had discharged them but
- 11:58that the baby Bonnie has health issues.
- 12:01Kira was introducing this baby again.
- 12:03It was a doll, this baby to like everyone, like her family, you
- 12:07know, the baby's dad, the baby's dad's mom, her work friends, her
- 12:11work friends, parents as well. And in all of these situations,
- 12:15it seems like it was the parents who kept questioning, like,
- 12:18what's going on here? I mean, presumably because the
- 12:21parents have had more interactions with babies than
- 12:24like the 22 year olds in the story.
- 12:26So yes, all of this was a doll, OK?
- 12:29There was no actual physical baby.
- 12:32So all of this exploded on social media after Kira's cousin
- 12:36Neve exposed the lies on social media and included receipts.
- 12:40Basically, the lies about the baby came to light after Kira's
- 12:42mom grew suspicious and she like broke into Kira's room, found
- 12:47the doll and was like what the fuck is going on?
- 12:49Neve said. Everybody believes Kira, She had
- 12:52a gender reveal, she posted scan photos and even said the baby
- 12:56had a hole in its heart. Then she texted me saying the
- 12:58baby was born. We were all so happy.
- 13:01OK so there were mixed reports about how Kira responded to this
- 13:06because there are so many fake accounts right now popping up
- 13:09trying to get in on this engagement.
- 13:10Like fake accounts pretending to be her.
- 13:13So it's unclear exactly how she responded.
- 13:16Some media outlets are reporting that Kira posted admitting it
- 13:19was a hoax and said she had no real reason to do it.
- 13:23She just lied and never was pregnant, never had a baby.
- 13:27And then others are saying that in her apology post she said she
- 13:31did it because she had a miscarriage.
- 13:33What seems to be reported across the board is that Kira is
- 13:37defending her family saying they had no idea.
- 13:40Like they bought her thousands of pounds worth of baby stuff.
- 13:43She is claiming they fully believed that it was real.
- 13:46So yes, even though it is wild to think that her boyfriend, her
- 13:51mom, like her family, her friends that she's apparently
- 13:53close with had no idea, never saw her stomach during this time
- 13:57anything. I guess at the end of the day,
- 13:59like she was clearly isolating herself.
- 14:02You know, if she was able to do something like this, she
- 14:05obviously was isolating herself from people.
- 14:07I do believe that they didn't know.
- 14:09But yeah, everybody is like, this is definitely the next
- 14:11Netflix documentary. That's why I said at the
- 14:14beginning, I feel like there is definitely some mental health
- 14:16stuff going on here. But yes, that is the update on
- 14:19that. That is the latest on that.
- 14:21Anyways, guys, that's it for Mini Scroll today.
- 14:23Thank you so much for listening. I love you guys.
- 14:26Please remember to rate, review and subscribe and I will talk to
- 14:30you tomorrow. Bye.
