- 0:43Speaker 1: come in. How are you doing on this Monday?
- 0:46Speaker 3: Good Josh, It's good to be here.
- 0:48Speaker 4: You and I are not in Egypt, so that there's
- 0:50Speaker 4: something about that.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Uh, there is something about that.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Although I think a whole other conversation can be had
- 0:56Speaker 1: about Mike Gill and his traveling, but that's nothing.
- 0:59Speaker 2: That's why over a podcast honestly.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Oh, I would think.
- 1:03Speaker 1: But let's get into what's going with the NFL, because
- 1:06Speaker 1: I thought a very interesting news item dropped today which
- 1:09Speaker 1: kind of changed my mentality coming into this conversation, which was,
- 1:13Speaker 1: for those who didn't see the news came down, the
- 1:14Speaker 1: Dolphins are basically clearing house, Jeff. They are announced they
- 1:19Speaker 1: are going to be getting rid of Tyreek Hill, They're
- 1:21Speaker 1: gonna get rid of Bradley Shaw at a later date,
- 1:23Speaker 1: a couple other guys. How does a team like the
- 1:27Speaker 1: Dolphins starting to unload guys maybe start changing the the
- 1:33Speaker 1: trajectory of the NFL offseason now that we're loading more
- 1:37Speaker 1: names into the market.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Jeff, Yeah, Josh, and.
- 1:41Speaker 4: I think you're gonna see quite a bit of this
- 1:43Speaker 4: throughout the off season. I think the trade market this
- 1:46Speaker 4: all season in particular will be hotter than ever. I
- 1:49Speaker 4: think the they're not cap casualties.
- 1:53Speaker 3: They're we're moving. You know, it's not that because you
- 1:57Speaker 3: can pay anybody you want.
- 1:58Speaker 4: You know, you clearly, sometimes you become a casualty of scheme,
- 2:02Speaker 4: sometimes become a casualty of just an overhaul, like what's
- 2:06Speaker 4: going on in Miami. But I think with what was
- 2:09Speaker 4: there ten ten new head coaches in the league. That's
- 2:12Speaker 4: basically a third league. Sixty percent of the offensive coordinators
- 2:16Speaker 4: in the league where were replaced, a ton of new
- 2:19Speaker 4: defensive coordinators. So you're talking about an entire change over
- 2:23Speaker 4: over one third of the league, if not more. And
- 2:26Speaker 4: guys want their players, they want their schemes, they don't
- 2:29Speaker 4: want holdovers from unless these guys, unless it's someone who's
- 2:32Speaker 4: just elite or fits. So I think this is just
- 2:35Speaker 4: the start of what's going to be a very very
- 2:38Speaker 4: active offseason for the entire league.
- 2:41Speaker 1: And I know it's that a direct line, but it
- 2:43Speaker 1: kind of made me think of it a little bit
- 2:44Speaker 1: because you guys have the latest inside the data with
- 2:47Speaker 1: Sam finking about the fact that the rising salary cap,
- 2:50Speaker 1: and they just see a team like the Dolphins being like,
- 2:53Speaker 1: we don't care, We're just going to get rid of
- 2:55Speaker 1: these guys, Like the Dolphins didn't have to.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Get rid of them, but they just chose to.
- 2:58Speaker 1: And it just goes to show you that when you
- 3:01Speaker 1: get a new coach, when you do you get a
- 3:02Speaker 1: new GM, how that impacts a team.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, Jeff Hafley has basically been I believe
- 3:08Speaker 4: a four to three guy in Green Bay if I'm
- 3:12Speaker 4: not mistaken, And you know, the Dolphins have runner a
- 3:14Speaker 4: lot of three four so naturally, even a good player
- 3:17Speaker 4: like Bradley Chubb, I think I have eight and a
- 3:18Speaker 4: half sacks last year.
- 3:19Speaker 3: You know, they they don't feel like he fits what
- 3:23Speaker 3: they're going to do.
- 3:23Speaker 4: And again, I think trading guys is going to be
- 3:27Speaker 4: at certain positions because of the availability.
- 3:30Speaker 3: That there's going to be this year. I don't know
- 3:33Speaker 3: how easy that's going to be.
- 3:35Speaker 4: And plus, like you said, there's a rise in the cap,
- 3:37Speaker 4: so taking a dead hit in twenty twenty six, you know,
- 3:42Speaker 4: you can probably take a bigger dead cap hit.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Than maybe ordinarily want to because of how much the
- 3:47Speaker 3: cap just.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Jumped, Jeff.
- 3:50Speaker 1: And that's why I'm glad that we're talking about this
- 3:52Speaker 1: because with the Eagles, you know, the rise of the
- 3:54Speaker 1: salary cap gives Howie Rose has been a lot more
- 3:57Speaker 1: options if folks can dig deeper into it with the
- 3:59Speaker 1: late inside the data with you and Sam Finkel. But
- 4:02Speaker 1: you know, it's one of those things where I think
- 4:04Speaker 1: people don't realize that. You know, we always talk about
- 4:07Speaker 1: how Howie Rose was so good at the salary cap, right,
- 4:09Speaker 1: but now it's how he Roseman is being handed.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Flexibility with that salary cap.
- 4:16Speaker 1: That kind of makes the whole who they do or
- 4:19Speaker 1: don't sign this off season a little more interesting.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know, one thing Sam's show inside.
- 4:24Speaker 4: The Data on Inside the Birds really brought to light
- 4:27Speaker 4: that was I think really interesting and why people should
- 4:29Speaker 4: listen to it is that the increase in the cap,
- 4:32Speaker 4: combined with the rollover that the Eagles have, is what
- 4:34Speaker 4: gives them their flexibility. But they don't have the flexibility
- 4:38Speaker 4: that they would typically have with contract restructuring. All right,
- 4:42Speaker 4: and Sam explains why everybody Elver says, oh, well, because
- 4:45Speaker 4: they're used to it now, and I understand, oh, well,
- 4:47Speaker 4: these guys make a lot of money. Well, how we
- 4:48Speaker 4: can just restructure the contract. No, that's not always the case,
- 4:53Speaker 4: not when you're on Not when you've got three or
- 4:56Speaker 4: four guys who've continuously been restructured throughout the course of
- 5:00Speaker 4: their career. It makes it it makes it a little
- 5:02Speaker 4: bit difficult to keep going to that.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Well, you know, really quick, explain that a little more,
- 5:08Speaker 1: because I think that the average person listening to us,
- 5:11Speaker 1: whether listening to a nice every three ESPN or catching
- 5:14Speaker 1: the replay of Football at four powdered by the Inside
- 5:16Speaker 1: of Birds podcast Jeff Mosher joining us here on a
- 5:19Speaker 1: Mosher Monday. You know the restructure conversation that you said,
- 5:23Speaker 1: people assume you can just do it again and again
- 5:26Speaker 1: and again, but ultimately, you know, at some point, you know,
- 5:30Speaker 1: it does come home the roost.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, I mean you can do with younger players
- 5:34Speaker 4: who are in like their second or third extension, but
- 5:37Speaker 4: you know, the egos have a couple of guys like
- 5:39Speaker 4: take Alane Johnson for example, who you can't because what
- 5:43Speaker 4: it entails. And again, if you listen to the pot
- 5:45Speaker 4: you get a better idea. But what it entails generally
- 5:47Speaker 4: is taking base salary that is guaranteed most of and
- 5:52Speaker 4: converting it into a bonus that you can spread it out.
- 5:55Speaker 4: But if you spread that money out in future years,
- 5:58Speaker 4: even dumbie years for players are already over thirty or
- 6:02Speaker 4: thirty two or north of that, then they're like less
- 6:05Speaker 4: likely to be on the roster, you know, two, three, four,
- 6:08Speaker 4: five years down the road, and.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Yet their cap hits would get bigger because you're.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Spreading, you're pushing signing bonus money down the road. There
- 6:15Speaker 4: it's easier to do it your one or a first
- 6:17Speaker 4: or a second time contract, or even like three years
- 6:20Speaker 4: into a first extension, because you still expect that player
- 6:23Speaker 4: to be with you for at least X amount of years,
- 6:26Speaker 4: so that even if you're kicking the cant way down
- 6:29Speaker 4: the road, you're only maybe getting one or two or
- 6:32Speaker 4: three dummy years where it felt the cap it'll be
- 6:34Speaker 4: low as the cap goes up. But you can't do
- 6:37Speaker 4: that on a guy who's like thirty five, give him
- 6:39Speaker 4: seven years, you know, five dummy years, so that when
- 6:41Speaker 4: he's forty two, he's still you know, counts against your cap.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Right.
- 6:45Speaker 1: And also you can't do in the NFL what they
- 6:47Speaker 1: do like a Major League Baseball where like they they
- 6:50Speaker 1: give out the Bobby Bania the Otani contracts, where it's like, yeah, yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 1: well we'll pay you when.
- 6:54Speaker 2: You're like fifty. You know, you can't do that in
- 6:56Speaker 2: the NFL.
- 6:57Speaker 4: No, not yet, and I'm to be honest with you,
- 7:00Speaker 4: to be honest with you, it is probably gonna go
- 7:02Speaker 4: the other You know, you've heard the owners talking about
- 7:05Speaker 4: you know, they haven't exactly said how the Eagles do business,
- 7:07Speaker 4: but they've talked about the integrity of contracts and salary
- 7:11Speaker 4: cap and making sure that the integrity of the cap
- 7:15Speaker 4: is being maintained.
- 7:16Speaker 3: And you know that that means that they're going to.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Start discussing at future meetings how the Eagle and the
- 7:24Speaker 4: Eagles aren't the only one, but they're sort of the
- 7:25Speaker 4: pie and now they're they're at the forefront of it.
- 7:28Speaker 4: The Saints do it, Other teams do it, but not
- 7:30Speaker 4: too many teams are willing to do it because it.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Does involve your owner being.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Embracing taking dead cap hits on players, you know, paying
- 7:39Speaker 4: players on your cap who aren't on your team and
- 7:42Speaker 4: maybe for a couple of years and.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Kicking that can down the road.
- 7:45Speaker 4: That's why Jeffrey Leuriy is a great owner, is because
- 7:48Speaker 4: he's willing to put out more cash up front than
- 7:52Speaker 4: most owners in order to have the cap situation the
- 7:55Speaker 4: way it is.
- 7:56Speaker 3: But it sounds like, if you're just reading the tea leaves,
- 7:59Speaker 3: the owners.
- 7:59Speaker 4: Are going to start, you know, talking about this and
- 8:03Speaker 4: maybe changing how much you can do that in the future.
- 8:06Speaker 1: And you mentioned Lane Johnson earlier, and obviously we don't
- 8:09Speaker 1: know for a fact what he is isn't going to
- 8:11Speaker 1: do next year, but there has been some conjecture Jeff
- 8:13Speaker 1: by other people that for Lane to come back, the
- 8:17Speaker 1: Eagles might need to pony up a little extra money
- 8:19Speaker 1: as a hey Lane, we still love you money.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Well, I don't know about that.
- 8:23Speaker 4: I think his I forget what his cash number is,
- 8:26Speaker 4: you know, but he's one of the higher paid players
- 8:28Speaker 4: on the team. Is I think his cap numbers around
- 8:30Speaker 4: forty one million or that's his cash number.
- 8:32Speaker 3: It's it's a pretty big number.
- 8:34Speaker 4: So because of all the restructures by the way that
- 8:37Speaker 4: they have done on his contract.
- 8:38Speaker 3: So I'm not sure that Lane's going to get more
- 8:41Speaker 3: money out of this.
- 8:42Speaker 4: But I get well, we'll see I've been I've been
- 8:44Speaker 4: fooled before.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Well, I'm pulling up over the cap right now.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Let's see here for twenty twenty six, he has a
- 8:53Speaker 1: base salary of one point three a signing bonus coming
- 8:57Speaker 1: in as long as on the roster of an extra
- 9:00Speaker 1: nine point nine million. His total cap number is twenty
- 9:04Speaker 1: point two. Although he has no guaranteed money for twenty
- 9:09Speaker 1: twenty six.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Does he have an option? I haven't looked at Lane.
- 9:13Speaker 2: He has a nine point one million option.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Okay, all right, Well, we'll see what happens there.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I mean, if I'm adding it all together, that's about
- 9:21Speaker 1: almost twenty million, so you know, in terms of you know,
- 9:25Speaker 1: actual money, not you know, shuffled money.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Yeah, if without having and over the Cap is the
- 9:31Speaker 4: best website for the for especially for Eagles money, because
- 9:36Speaker 4: the Eagles have somebody in their in their contract department
- 9:39Speaker 4: who came from that website, I believe. But even there
- 9:44Speaker 4: then they're not to the t.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Yeah. Well again, I'm just going off of what it says.
- 9:49Speaker 1: If to me, if this says no guaranteed money but
- 9:52Speaker 1: there's option money, then you know, maybe there is a
- 9:54Speaker 1: scenario where the Eagles could you know, how he does
- 9:57Speaker 1: his whole thing, but you know agains you mentioned Jeff the.
- 10:02Speaker 4: When you're when you say no guaranteed money, you're talking
- 10:03Speaker 4: about guaranteed based salary.
- 10:05Speaker 3: I think that's, you know, because if there was.
- 10:07Speaker 4: No guaranteed money at all, then they could just cut
- 10:09Speaker 4: him and not not.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Be on the hook for anything. But that's not the
- 10:11Speaker 3: case with no. No, he's got correct.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, you're you're, you're, you're you're reading of
- 10:16Speaker 1: it is correct. I can pull up the screen if
- 10:18Speaker 1: you want here and put.
- 10:18Speaker 3: It on the no. No, it's all good, but good, Well.
- 10:21Speaker 1: My My larger point was is that I think one
- 10:23Speaker 1: of the reason why people are interested about the Lane
- 10:25Speaker 1: Johnson not less much because whether he does is to
- 10:27Speaker 1: come back, but because of the fact that, you know,
- 10:30Speaker 1: people are looking at the cap going up and they're assuming, hey,
- 10:34Speaker 1: Howie time right, how is going to do more things?
- 10:36Speaker 1: But I think you and Sam have explained multiple not
- 10:39Speaker 1: not just the latest episode of his other data, but
- 10:41Speaker 1: multiple times that it's not as simple as hey, there's
- 10:45Speaker 1: more money here that there there's a lot more nuance
- 10:47Speaker 1: to this salary cap stuff.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Man.
- 10:49Speaker 4: They have to figure out extensions for their own. In
- 10:52Speaker 4: house guys, they always consider that free agency. You know
- 10:55Speaker 4: that you always hear how we.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Say, you know, people think we're not active.
- 10:59Speaker 4: In this giving and you're on free agency, but we
- 11:01Speaker 4: think we are if we gave somebody an extension like
- 11:04Speaker 4: to Jalen Carter or Jordan Davis, right, or if they
- 11:08Speaker 4: bring back read blanket ship. Because if they don't do
- 11:11Speaker 4: those extensions, those guys get closer to free agency and
- 11:14Speaker 4: maybe can walk like Milton Williams. So they always consider
- 11:17Speaker 4: that their version of free agency. In house free agency.
- 11:22Speaker 2: See if I could do some magic here by myself
- 11:25Speaker 2: here in the studio. There we go.
- 11:27Speaker 1: So there is your your screen there. So it's guaranteed
- 11:31Speaker 1: salary Jeff.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Yeah, and obviously so you know those option bonuses are there,
- 11:38Speaker 4: and you'd have to know when they kick in and
- 11:40Speaker 4: when they don't. But you know there's a reason why,
- 11:42Speaker 4: and you can see how it's been spread out through
- 11:44Speaker 4: a couple of dummy years.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Yeah, more than a couple.
- 11:48Speaker 1: But like you said, though they're not going to be
- 11:50Speaker 1: paying him at forty two, forty three years old, there
- 11:53Speaker 1: is a reason why you know they're going to probably
- 11:55Speaker 1: come back around and do something with it.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you don't want to have him, you know,
- 12:00Speaker 4: on the cap for like fifteen million dollars in when
- 12:02Speaker 4: he's in twenty thirty, right in twenty and thirty one,
- 12:05Speaker 4: when he's not gonna probably be playing.
- 12:07Speaker 2: So yeah, exactly.
- 12:08Speaker 1: So, and let's brings us to the other part of
- 12:10Speaker 1: the conference, because you just mentioned Red Blankenship with the Eagles, Jeff.
- 12:14Speaker 1: You know, for you of the guys who are the
- 12:17Speaker 1: free agents, you know, the blank and Ships, the Kobe Deans,
- 12:21Speaker 1: the Jillen Phillips. Is there a guy that youth Jeff
- 12:25Speaker 1: Mosher think they need to prioritize of the defensive group
- 12:27Speaker 1: to bring back.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I mean Jalen Phillips for sure, because they
- 12:33Speaker 4: traded a third round pick for him, played fairly well.
- 12:36Speaker 3: You know, he's still this year, was removed from injury
- 12:39Speaker 3: the year before and the year before that.
- 12:40Speaker 4: So maybe even next year he's even better because he
- 12:43Speaker 4: did end the season healthy.
- 12:45Speaker 3: He knows the scheme. You're not particularly deep at edge
- 12:48Speaker 3: rusher right now under contract.
- 12:51Speaker 4: It's let's you know, let's say if Jillen Phillips is
- 12:53Speaker 4: not under contract for you're a free agent. So you're
- 12:55Speaker 4: talking about Nolan Smith, you're talking about Jaelex Hunt, and
- 12:58Speaker 4: you're talking about what Brinda Graham.
- 13:01Speaker 3: So, uh, you're just not deep an edge right now.
- 13:06Speaker 4: And this is a You're you're predicated on having a
- 13:08Speaker 4: four man rush other places. You know, Nikobe Deane's a
- 13:11Speaker 4: great player, but you drafted Johat Campbell in the first round.
- 13:14Speaker 4: Read blanket ship really nice, Ben Solid won a Super Bowl. Great,
- 13:19Speaker 4: he's not irreplaceable. But a guy like Joan Philips, that's hard.
- 13:23Speaker 4: That's harder to replace.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Let's say I told you what you's say about Phillips,
- 13:27Speaker 1: but just to play devil's advocate. You know, is there
- 13:29Speaker 1: any concern that next year when the Eagles take the
- 13:33Speaker 1: field that you have Blankenship and Dean in a Cowboys uniform.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean there's always that concern that when you lose,
- 13:43Speaker 4: you know, one of your coaches to another team and
- 13:44Speaker 4: it happens to be a division rival. But like again,
- 13:47Speaker 4: I don't want to overstate this. I do think we
- 13:50Speaker 4: Read blanket Ship's a good player. I don't want to
- 13:53Speaker 4: understate this. I mean, I think Read Blankship's a good player.
- 13:57Speaker 4: If he went to the Dallas Cowboys, does that make
- 13:59Speaker 4: them automatic like super Bowl contender? Now it's just you
- 14:04Speaker 4: bring in Read Blankenship because he knows exactly what the
- 14:08Speaker 4: defense is, what the coordinator wants done. He can help
- 14:11Speaker 4: everybody else. He's a good enough player where he can
- 14:13Speaker 4: be a starter. But let's not make it out to
- 14:16Speaker 4: be like, you know, they're getting Ed Reid, uh you know,
- 14:19Speaker 4: or or you know, one of these like Brian Dawkins
- 14:21Speaker 4: in his prime. So I'd be far less or far
- 14:25Speaker 4: more concerned if the Cowboys got jail and Phillips, then
- 14:28Speaker 4: they got Read Blankenship, of course, gotcha.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Now I'm just I'm just asking because of the fact
- 14:32Speaker 1: that you know, in my mind and you know, our
- 14:35Speaker 1: fans out there, they look at you know, it's already
- 14:37Speaker 1: been at the Christian Park and went to Dallas. Then
- 14:39Speaker 1: it's like if any of the Eagles guys go to
- 14:40Speaker 1: Dallas too, because remember, you know you Josh Wenten, who
- 14:44Speaker 1: is the other guy who went with Gann into Arizona?
- 14:46Speaker 3: Right as you're white?
- 14:48Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, No, I mean it happens. It's
- 14:52Speaker 4: it's certainly something you have to be weary of. H
- 14:55Speaker 4: and you know, but but I think with the way
- 14:57Speaker 4: the Eagles prioritize the trenches, don't make a competitive deal
- 15:00Speaker 4: the jail and Phillips. As long as somebody doesn't go,
- 15:02Speaker 4: you know, crazy Blankenship will see.
- 15:08Speaker 3: It's funny. And I'm only bringing.
- 15:09Speaker 4: That up because I was asking an interview on a
- 15:12Speaker 4: PA radio station. The host said to me, well, they
- 15:15Speaker 4: got to keep Reblankenship, right, I mean, you have to
- 15:17Speaker 4: keep him, And I said why, And I like readplaying.
- 15:20Speaker 4: I'm not anti Red Blanketship, but I mean, if you're
- 15:23Speaker 4: giving me the pecking order of things the Eagles need
- 15:25Speaker 4: to do on defense, and that would include figuring out
- 15:28Speaker 4: you know, Jayleen Phillips and then getting extensions for either
- 15:31Speaker 4: Carter or Davis or even Moro Joemo's up after three years,
- 15:36Speaker 4: like you know, keeping re Blankenship. I wouldn't put as
- 15:41Speaker 4: high in the pecking order or that. And again, I'm
- 15:44Speaker 4: not trying to slam the guy. I think he's done
- 15:47Speaker 4: an excellent job, but I don't see him as an
- 15:49Speaker 4: irreplaceable part of the Eagles defense.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Well, I think the other reason why JILLN. Phillips is
- 15:54Speaker 1: important is because I'm not trying to throw shade at anyone,
- 15:58Speaker 1: but I'm just being realistic. I don't know what Nolan
- 16:01Speaker 1: Smith is going to be moving forward.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I don't know if that guy is going to continue
- 16:06Speaker 1: to ascend or if he already hit his ceiling. I
- 16:09Speaker 1: think Jill X Hunt is continuing to a send, but
- 16:12Speaker 1: I don't know if Nolan Smith is. And I think
- 16:14Speaker 1: that's a huge problem for the Eagles. After I got
- 16:16Speaker 1: they invested a first round draft pick in and he
- 16:19Speaker 1: may be limited. And now at least you know, in
- 16:22Speaker 1: Jilen Phillips, you have a guy who has a high ceiling.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Nolan Phillips. I don't know what his ceiling is anymore
- 16:27Speaker 2: Jeff right.
- 16:29Speaker 3: And that's that's another thing.
- 16:30Speaker 4: Financially with what you're talking about with Nolan Smith, you're
- 16:34Speaker 4: not He's probably not gonna get an extension.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I can't see that happening. However, it is.
- 16:39Speaker 4: After year three, so you have to decide on the
- 16:40Speaker 4: fifth year option. You are going to pick up his
- 16:42Speaker 4: fifth year option, there's no question about that. But that
- 16:45Speaker 4: does lock you into a certain amount of money coming up.
- 16:48Speaker 4: So again, like that's why you're You're trying to figure
- 16:51Speaker 4: out what's the best allocation of your money and it's
- 16:55Speaker 4: it's gonna be. And and also knowing that at this
- 16:58Speaker 4: time next year for Dejene and Quinya Mitchell are gonna
- 17:02Speaker 4: need their their contract done.
- 17:04Speaker 3: So you can't can't pay.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Everybody, No, you can't pay everybody. You gotta make some
- 17:09Speaker 1: difficult decisions here. I think that's the biggest reason why
- 17:12Speaker 1: uh Na Kobe Dean, for as much as we all
- 17:14Speaker 1: love and won't be back because you said they drafted
- 17:17Speaker 1: Jihad Campbell and at some point you mentioned that there's
- 17:20Speaker 1: a laundry list of guys you have to get paid
- 17:23Speaker 1: at some point, and you can't just you can't just
- 17:26Speaker 1: keep drafting guys again and again and hoping for the best.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Like I mean, for as much as Chris we give
- 17:31Speaker 1: hy Roseman for getting Quinya, Mitchell Cooper, Dejene Jill and
- 17:35Speaker 1: Carter Jordan Davis, et cetera, he's not gonna hit on
- 17:39Speaker 1: every single pick every single year. The odds are against
- 17:42Speaker 1: it happening. So you can't just infinitely keep replacing guys, That's.
- 17:47Speaker 4: Right, I mean, part of being an organization that drafts
- 17:51Speaker 4: and develops, like the Eagles have done a pretty good
- 17:54Speaker 4: job of it. I'll say they had some real rough stretches,
- 17:56Speaker 4: uh late Andy Reid years and then through the Chip
- 17:59Speaker 4: Kelly and Peterson years, both in missing on draft picks
- 18:02Speaker 4: and then just not developing good players who went elsewhere
- 18:05Speaker 4: and played better.
- 18:06Speaker 3: But they've done a much better job.
- 18:08Speaker 4: But the part of that mindset is that you're gonna
- 18:12Speaker 4: lose some good players to you know, we're gonna get
- 18:15Speaker 4: paid elsewhere and be able to replace them. That's something
- 18:18Speaker 4: that you know, the Steelers deal with, the Ravens deal
- 18:21Speaker 4: with it, you know, the Packers deal with it.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Just it happens. That's part of being a draft and
- 18:25Speaker 3: developed well.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Jeff, before we let you go because we know that
- 18:29Speaker 1: Jeff p and P Moshers is for Philadelphia. I'm just kidding,
- 18:33Speaker 1: you know, obviously, so we'd be asking today throughout the show.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I want to get your perspective because you've been around
- 18:39Speaker 1: the Philadelphia sports team for a long time now, so
- 18:42Speaker 1: today's presidence Day. So I figured, let's do a mount
- 18:44Speaker 1: Rushmore of the Philly sports.
- 18:46Speaker 2: But you have to pick one player for every team.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Okay, you can't do you get double up on a team,
- 18:51Speaker 1: So you can't be like, you know, oh, you know,
- 18:54Speaker 1: Mike Schmid and Richie Ashburn. Now you got to pick
- 18:56Speaker 1: one Philly one eagle six er flyer. Appiling all the answers,
- 19:01Speaker 1: at the end of the show, I'm gonna put a
- 19:02Speaker 1: poll together to make an official ninety seven to three
- 19:05Speaker 1: mount Rushmore lists by the end of the week. So
- 19:07Speaker 1: does Jeff Mosher have a mount Rushmore of Philadelphia Sports?
- 19:12Speaker 4: I mean, I don't think I'm gonna be, you know,
- 19:15Speaker 4: saying anybody who's not somewhat obvious. I mean, if we're
- 19:18Speaker 4: talking Phillies, it's got to be Schmitty, right. I mean,
- 19:21Speaker 4: I know you can put Carlton up there as a pitcher.
- 19:23Speaker 4: He was fantastic, And I've always felt of the two
- 19:27Speaker 4: thousand and eight to twenty twelve team that Jimmy Rollins
- 19:33Speaker 4: was the best overall and most impactful. In fact, I'm
- 19:37Speaker 4: really don't understand why Chase Atley, and I like Chase
- 19:40Speaker 4: and against him, why he gets more Hall of Fame
- 19:42Speaker 4: boats than Jimmy Rollins, because I feel like Rollins was
- 19:45Speaker 4: the overall better player. But nonetheless, Schmidty is your Phillies
- 19:49Speaker 4: Mount Rushmore guy.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Let's work backwards, so your Sixers Mount Rushmore guy. That
- 19:57Speaker 3: one's a little bit tougher, right, I mean it's Iverson,
- 20:01Speaker 3: doctor J.
- 20:02Speaker 4: And I mean Moses was only here for a short time,
- 20:05Speaker 4: so I don't think.
- 20:06Speaker 2: You're the first person that you mentioned Moses.
- 20:08Speaker 3: By the way, Oh, bark plus Barkley.
- 20:12Speaker 2: We have we have a we have a so so
- 20:14Speaker 2: far it's been Barklay.
- 20:15Speaker 3: And obviously Will Chamberlain.
- 20:16Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Will Chamberlain. Yeah, it's gotta be Will.
- 20:21Speaker 1: So that the four we've been getting throughout the day
- 20:23Speaker 1: is either doctor J, Will Iverson or Chuck.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Those are the four.
- 20:27Speaker 3: YEA, No, it's gotta be Will. So it's gotta be Will.
- 20:30Speaker 4: It's gotta be Schmidty the best eagle of all time.
- 20:34Speaker 4: I mean, it's gotta be Reggie White if we if
- 20:36Speaker 4: we're being honest.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I've got a lot of I got a lot of
- 20:39Speaker 1: votes for Bed and Erick ah Man.
- 20:42Speaker 3: That's a little bit before my time. I tend to
- 20:47Speaker 3: favor of the athletes who are the you know, played
- 20:49Speaker 3: in the bigger.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Faster, more athletic and not taking nothing away from from
- 20:53Speaker 4: Concrete Charlie.
- 20:54Speaker 3: But fine, I won't, I won't, you know, dispute it.
- 20:57Speaker 4: But that that's pretty good.
- 21:00Speaker 2: He also got some votes for Dawkins obviously.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Flyer. Bobby Clark got.
- 21:07Speaker 1: A lot of votes for Bobby Clark, got some votes
- 21:09Speaker 1: for Eric Lindross.
- 21:11Speaker 2: We had well, we had one idiot vote for Claude Deraux.
- 21:15Speaker 3: So oh, come on. I mean club was good, very good,
- 21:19Speaker 3: but not no.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Not, Jeff, Jeff. I explained this earlier. I said the
- 21:23Speaker 1: problem with Jeru is he was a very good player.
- 21:26Speaker 1: When you're a very good player and you play long enough,
- 21:28Speaker 1: you build up stats. You can be a stack compiler
- 21:31Speaker 1: and it makes your career look a lot better than
- 21:33Speaker 1: it really was. It's like was Drew Bluts are one
- 21:35Speaker 1: of the best quarterbacks of all time. No, but did
- 21:37Speaker 1: he play long put up some nice stats? Yes he did.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Yes, Yeah, you know what, for a while, I don't
- 21:43Speaker 4: know if it's still that Kerry Collins.
- 21:44Speaker 3: It was like top ten passing yards all time in
- 21:49Speaker 3: the NFL.
- 21:49Speaker 4: And yeah, you wouldn't you wouldn't put him up there
- 21:53Speaker 4: with the greatest quarterbacks to ever played the game.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just you know, people people look at stats
- 21:58Speaker 1: sometimes don't look at the career and realize that, hey,
- 22:01Speaker 1: this guy played for twenty years.
- 22:02Speaker 2: That kind of helps.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure. I'm trying to think
- 22:07Speaker 3: if there was anybody that I missed.
- 22:08Speaker 1: I mean, you know, well we did get one vote
- 22:11Speaker 1: for Richie Ashburn instead of Mike Schmidt, so we have
- 22:13Speaker 1: that person.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Any vote, any votes for Dick Allen, No.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Votes for Dick Allen? Interesting, okay, you know, only one
- 22:20Speaker 2: vote for Bertie Paran.
- 22:21Speaker 4: So okay, Well, I think Bobby Clark is the is
- 22:25Speaker 4: the guy that you know, you associate with the the
- 22:27Speaker 4: great the broad Street Bulleys, right, I mean, I.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Mean he's the he's the headliner of the broad Street right.
- 22:35Speaker 1: But I mean there are still lot of people who
- 22:36Speaker 1: might look at Bernie paran As. Maybe you know, one
- 22:39Speaker 1: of the greatest flyers of all time and you know
- 22:42Speaker 1: the guy's a Hall of Famer.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Votes for Lyndros votes got two votes. Okay, that's fair.
- 22:48Speaker 3: It's fair.
- 22:49Speaker 2: I think Barbab is generational too.
- 22:50Speaker 1: It's like, if you didn't grow up watching certain people,
- 22:52Speaker 1: you know, you're inclined, right, you know what I mean.
- 22:54Speaker 1: It's like, you know, there's a there's that like different differentiation.
- 22:57Speaker 1: It's like, if you grew up in a certain era,
- 22:58Speaker 1: it's Lynn Dross, it's Dawkins, it's Alan I Everson. If
- 23:03Speaker 1: you grew up in another era, it's Reggie, it's Doctor
- 23:05Speaker 1: j It's Bobby Clark.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Yeah, you see, That's that's the difficulty of the mount Rushmore
- 23:10Speaker 4: discussion is like, can anybody ever beat Wilt for the
- 23:12Speaker 4: seventy six ers?
- 23:13Speaker 3: I mean, he put up the most insane No, he
- 23:16Speaker 3: was the.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Greatest basketball player there ever was, and you know, people
- 23:20Speaker 4: who watch him play would even say that Jordan really
- 23:22Speaker 4: can't compare, because the gulf between Wilt and whoever was
- 23:26Speaker 4: the second or third best player in the NBA of
- 23:29Speaker 4: his era is even wider than Jordan and whoever you
- 23:33Speaker 4: want to put second or third in Jordan's era, so
- 23:36Speaker 4: I can't say I wasn't old enough.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Well, we'll add your votes to the tabulation.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Jeff Mosher all right, thank you, every one, talk to Wednesday.
- 23:48Speaker 1: That's the plan. As long as you don't you don't
- 23:51Speaker 1: have something else going on.
- 23:52Speaker 3: No, we're good.
