- 0:00you actually love attention.
- 0:04You actually love attention.
- 0:08Anything on Earth has its shadow sides and its light sides
- 0:12and we have been made to reject the idea
- 0:15of being attended to in a nourishing way.
- 0:18And what I invite you to think about
- 0:20is that there is an inner child within you
- 0:23who longs to be witnessed.
- 0:25There is something deeply expansive
- 0:27about the right kind of attention,
- 0:30about attention that is loving and nurturing,
- 0:34compassionate, kind, present.
- 0:36And because so many of us did not experience
- 0:39this kind of attention,
- 0:41we've been taught to equate
- 0:42some of our more negative or traumatic experiences
- 0:45with attention such as bullying or criticism
- 0:48or judgment with the whole idea of attention itself.
- 0:52And it is time to reclaim the nourishing, beautiful,
- 0:55soul-expanding aspects of attention.
- 0:59Just like anything in nature like a knife
- 1:01or something sharp can be used to carve and make art,
- 1:05make something beautiful
- 1:07or it can be used to cause harm.
- 1:09A relationship as we know can be a classroom
- 1:12for love and healing and consciousness
- 1:15or it can be a horrifying space,
- 1:18a cage, a prison for manipulation,
- 1:20for narcissism, for abuse.
- 1:22So the container is neutral.
- 1:24It's what's then contained within it
- 1:27that becomes what we then associate with that category.
- 1:30So when attention comes into the field,
- 1:32we can associate all our experiences
- 1:34that have been negative with attention
- 1:36with the whole notion of attention itself.
- 1:39But there is something so life-giving about attention.
- 1:43Why does the peacock look like that?
- 1:44Why is the sun said so gorgeous?
- 1:47There is a technology of witnessing baked into nature.
- 1:52It's like when someone has honed their craft,
- 1:55eventually they get to the point where they want to share it,
- 1:57they want to be witnessed, they want to be seen.
- 2:00Because there is a deep wisdom, ancient wisdom
- 2:04in each of us to not hoard our gifts, but to share them.
- 2:09And so if there's something within you seeking
- 2:11to be brought out, to be expressed,
- 2:14part of what it is asking for you to do
- 2:16is to reclaim that attention gets to feel juicy
- 2:20and safe and delicious and that it is your divine birthright
- 2:26to be witnessed.
- 2:28Just like the trees, just like the full moon or the stars,
- 2:32just like anything deeply beautiful in the cosmos,
- 2:36your spirit, your gifts, your magic,
- 2:41desire to be shared and seen
- 2:45and held with that kind of loving attention
- 2:48that truly can heal the world.
- 2:51I would say there is attention that is so expanding
- 2:54and there is attention that is so crushing.
- 2:57We all know the feeling when you're scrolling on Instagram
- 3:00and you just feel so much worse about yourself
- 3:03because of this toxic society that we live in,
- 3:05toxic beauty standards, consumerism, capitalism
- 3:09and then also of course all the trauma
- 3:11that we are witnessing in the world,
- 3:12that's a completely different story
- 3:14and I send so much love to the world.
- 3:16But let's stay on this topic of attention.
- 3:18So soul crushing attention leaves you feeling worse about yourself.
- 3:22But I posit, I propose,
- 3:25that the kind of attention that you embody to the world
- 3:27is very soul expanding.
- 3:29When people listen to your music,
- 3:31when people tune into your voice and vibration,
- 3:34when people feel into your heart and your energy
- 3:37in your videos, in your essays,
- 3:38when people read your sub-stack or read your book,
- 3:41they are fortified, they are expanded by attending to you.
- 3:46So it's not fair to only associate attention
- 3:49with being attention seeking
- 3:51and seeing that as a negative thing.
- 3:53We are taught in childhood that it's not safe
- 3:55to take up too much space
- 3:56or we can be it depending on where you grew up.
- 3:58So there's so many things that even a younger version of ourselves
- 4:02may have been magnificent at taking up space.
- 4:04She or they or he loved attention,
- 4:06loved the spotlight, sang, danced,
- 4:08made up little skits and accents
- 4:10and then over time this exuberance got squeezed
- 4:16and repressed and sort of like,
- 4:18I'm getting an image of needing bread
- 4:20and the beauty of needing bread
- 4:22as you're transforming it into a form
- 4:23that can then be baked in the oven,
- 4:25but of course you're transforming it
- 4:27so you are ending one form to make space for another.
- 4:30And so society does this where it takes us
- 4:32as these magical expansive flower,
- 4:35you know, these magical expansive possibilities
- 4:38and sort of shapes and carves us into
- 4:40what is most suitable for that society,
- 4:42which is a version of us who is dulled down, dampened down,
- 4:45a version of us who's not taking up space
- 4:47in a way that is subversive
- 4:49or that could garner attention in a way
- 4:51that could go against the social order and status quo.
- 4:55So we were conditioned out of that natural exuberance
- 5:00and what I think the invitation is to reclaim
- 5:03that we don't only fear being seen.
- 5:06We also love being seen.
- 5:08There's a part of you that loves being seen.
- 5:11They love it, they love attention,
- 5:13they love when they make a joke at the dinner table
- 5:15and everyone looks at them and everyone listens and laughs.
- 5:18They love when they sing and people actually look at them
- 5:20instead of continuing on their phone.
- 5:22They love when they speak and someone is present.
- 5:24So we love witnessing.
- 5:27We love when someone notices something we said,
- 5:30remembers it.
- 5:31We love when someone deeply listens.
- 5:33So it's time to reclaim that we love attention.
- 5:37We love nourishing, so expanding, delicious, sacred,
- 5:40attention and the universe has given us
- 5:43the technology of attention for a reason
- 5:45because we didn't come here only to attend.
- 5:48That's why you feel so out of whack
- 5:50when you are only consuming item, not creating it
- 5:53because you also came here to be a creator of your life
- 5:57and therefore to be attended to in that capacity
- 5:59that doesn't have to be by being a content creator
- 6:01on social media, it could be,
- 6:03but it could also be in a room at a poetry-spoken word event.
- 6:08As we home our craft in private,
- 6:10there's just something that calls for us
- 6:12to share it in public more and more.
- 6:15So how can you reclaim your love of attention?
- 6:19How can it become a safe desire
- 6:22for you to truly fully claim?
- 6:24Because I often think society makes it difficult
- 6:26to talk about certain desires,
- 6:28so we talk about the attendant fear instead.
- 6:30So it's much easier to say,
- 6:32you know what I really fear being seen?
- 6:33Then say, you know what I really wish my art
- 6:35was getting more attention.
- 6:37I really actually like when people validate my work in public
- 6:40and so it really sucks when there's crickets.
- 6:42It's more challenging to claim,
- 6:44especially in a patriarchal, anti-black,
- 6:47white supremacist, homophobic world,
- 6:49all of the things, ableist, also demonizing the feminine
- 6:52in anyone, demonizing certain ways and modes
- 6:55of being or expression, toxic beauty standards.
- 6:59It's really challenging to claim
- 7:01and reclaim our desire to attend,
- 7:04our desire to be attended to.
- 7:06So how can you make it so safe and juicy to say,
- 7:08I love being seen?
- 7:09I invite you to say that off to me.
- 7:11I love being seen when it's nourishing.
- 7:13I love being seen when it's safe.
- 7:16I love being seen when it feels like someone is holding me
- 7:20in the eyes of love.
- 7:22I want to give an example.
- 7:23You know, you like me, probably love food, right?
- 7:26We love food, don't we love food?
- 7:27But of course there's forms of food, we don't love.
- 7:30There's forms of food that don't feel good to us
- 7:32or that we may even be allergic to.
- 7:33There's forms of food that make us sick.
- 7:35Does that mean we should now hate food
- 7:37or say like it's not safe to say that I love food?
- 7:40No, it's a broad category.
- 7:41And we get to say we get to claim that we love food
- 7:45without like without associating that
- 7:47with the negative aspects of food.
- 7:49We get to prioritize and focus on the aspects of things
- 7:52that we love.
- 7:53So how can you say, oh my gosh,
- 7:54attention is this force in the universe
- 7:56that I've been rejecting.
- 7:58I've been saying, oh no, that's not safe.
- 8:00If I'm attended to, then I'll be canceled
- 8:02or criticized or judged.
- 8:03Wait, attention is trying to give so much to me.
- 8:06I came with a technology of attention.
- 8:08I came with a voice.
- 8:10I came with movement.
- 8:11I can like get your attention.
- 8:13That's for a reason.
- 8:15Babies cry loudly so that they can get the attention
- 8:19of their caretakers.
- 8:21This is a deep soothing, delicious technology
- 8:24that is of course in this world
- 8:25in this paradigm being misused.
- 8:28And you know that attention is most important
- 8:30because look at how the media system works.
- 8:32Look at how the media system works.
- 8:34I'm just gonna leave it at that.
- 8:36So how can you reclaim that you love attention
- 8:38and attention loves you?
- 8:39Can you create moments in your life
- 8:40where attention felt really good?
- 8:42Are there performances you did when you achiled
- 8:44that you loved?
- 8:45Do you get these glimmers of moments
- 8:47when you listen to music?
- 8:48And it's a music video on your the center of attention
- 8:50and it feels so good.
- 8:53It feels so good.
- 8:55Okay, when you sing, do you imagine a crowd listening to you?
- 8:59When you speak, are you like speaking to an invisible room?
- 9:02That's what I used to do.
- 9:04Like not imagining sort of a stage
- 9:06but just imagining that there were people listening to me
- 9:08since I was a child.
- 9:08I would just walk and speak to myself
- 9:11as though I was like performing for the world, you know,
- 9:13as I was sharing.
- 9:14And there's something beautiful about that.
- 9:17I believe you've come here to be attended to otherwise
- 9:20all the magic that you are would be collapsed within to you
- 9:25because attention is the mechanism
- 9:26through which we get to experience you.
- 9:29So you could have all these gifts, all this magic,
- 9:31all this healing energy.
- 9:32But if you don't make yourself findable,
- 9:34no one else gets to experience it.
- 9:36So it's really beautiful that you get to experience it
- 9:38in your journal, in your life, talking to yourself,
- 9:40talking to people.
- 9:41But unless you speak a word of love in a room with your friends
- 9:46and then they're like, oh my gosh, that really stuck with me,
- 9:49oh my word, that really moved me.
- 9:51That technology of attention is here to help us spread magic.
- 9:55But of course, just like the knife,
- 9:58it can also be used to spread toxicity.
- 9:59So why I believe you need to be attended to
- 10:02is because you are part of the soul expanding form of attention.
- 10:05And I believe if all of our attention is directed towards
- 10:09things that expand our souls, we will live in heaven on earth.
- 10:13That's what I believe.
- 10:14If all the music is so expanding and all the books
- 10:17and all the movies, now soul expanding doesn't mean
- 10:19it doesn't talk about the deep traumas of life.
- 10:22That is also truthful, you know, we can hold both,
- 10:25but it's that it's nourishing the spirit.
- 10:27We just know it.
- 10:28I don't even have to explain it to you.
- 10:30You know when you watch a movie and you're like,
- 10:31oh my word, that nourished me, like sinners.
- 10:34And you know when you watch something
- 10:35and you're like, oh my god, that depleted me.
- 10:37There's something spiritually that was off
- 10:39about that experience.
- 10:41And look at what they get us hooked on.
- 10:43A lot of media that does that, you know what I mean?
- 10:46So I know it can feel like we're in a time of hopelessness
- 10:49and despair.
- 10:49We must witness and bear witness.
- 10:51And of course, as I said, it's a privileged to bear witness.
- 10:53I don't have the perfect words.
- 10:54But what I will say with so much love in my heart
- 10:58is that the possibility of building a healed
- 11:02and loving world is possible if each of us listens
- 11:05to the loving artist within and lets him, lets him lead.
- 11:10Because heaven on earth, utopia, paradise, Nirvana,
- 11:14a world with mutual abundance and thriving,
- 11:17a world of mutual beauty where everyone gets to participate
- 11:20in how beautiful life can be.
- 11:22That world is possible, but it can only happen
- 11:25through the creation of the happening,
- 11:27through making the music that that would entail,
- 11:30through creating the dances or the healing modalities,
- 11:33through creating the ideas, through sharing the opinions,
- 11:36through writing the books, sci-fi, you know, fiction,
- 11:40essays, whatever it is, through creating things
- 11:43that nourish the spirit such that that's our standard.
- 11:46Now, we don't, it's like once you've tasted,
- 11:48it's almost like when people stop drinking.
- 11:51And then they thought they'd only do like a dry January.
- 11:53And now they're like, oh my god, I'm sleeping better.
- 11:55I like who I am more.
- 11:57I get a higher quality of like presence and memory.
- 12:00Why would I ever go back?
- 12:01So if you show people better alternatives,
- 12:04they will take them.
- 12:06So we can't, this is also why I sort of believe like,
- 12:10part of my role is not to focus on what's wrong with the world.
- 12:14Part of my role is to speak into the possibility
- 12:16of what could be so right.
- 12:18And I believe you are that possibility.
- 12:21I believe your poetry, your music, your sub stacks,
- 12:25your everything, helps pave.
- 12:29Like, pave puts a brick on the surface of the planet,
- 12:32walking us closer to utopia and paradise.
- 12:36I believe your consciousness is here for a reason
- 12:38and came at this specific time for a reason.
- 12:42And whether you talk about the grief and despair of the world,
- 12:45or if you talk about the beauty and light,
- 12:47your frequency, your purpose, like whatever calling is in your heart,
- 12:52at whatever scale, around two people, around two million,
- 12:55it is intentionally designed as a technology towards healing.
- 13:00We need you.
- 13:01We need your magic.
- 13:02We need your gifts.
- 13:03And please do not let the voice of perfectionism
- 13:06doubt, not good enough ism.
- 13:10Fear, stop you from doing your work in this lifetime.
- 13:14You know what's so funny?
- 13:15People at the end of their life,
- 13:16we know that the regrets in that book,
- 13:18the five regrets of the dying.
- 13:20I haven't read the book,
- 13:21but we, a lot of us are familiar with the idea
- 13:23that most people at the end of their life,
- 13:24regret not having lived a life true to themselves.
- 13:27What regrets sort of hides is the discomfort
- 13:31you would have had to face in order to avoid
- 13:32the discomfort of regret.
- 13:34So it's kind of easier to say,
- 13:36oh, I really regret not sticking with my sub-stack.
- 13:40Then it is to say,
- 13:41I wish I had chosen the discomfort again and again
- 13:45and again of writing my sub-stack.
- 13:47Do you hear how it's a different frequency?
- 13:49So when you face discomfort on that brick building
- 13:52towards that place that you take us to,
- 13:55trust that that discomfort,
- 13:57that fear, it is part of your purpose,
- 14:01it is part of your path,
- 14:02and it is part of how you do such a solid to your future self
- 14:06because any discomfort you take today
- 14:09is a regret avoided tomorrow.
- 14:12Anything that makes you uncomfortable,
- 14:14that you avoid today, you are caching out to your future self.
- 14:17Oh, I don't wanna deal with this, you deal with it.
- 14:20I don't wanna deal with the pain or the shame of this.
- 14:22So when I'm 80, 90, 100 years old,
- 14:25that's when I'll have to deal with it.
- 14:26That's when I'll sit and be like, oh, my word.
- 14:28If only I just reached out.
- 14:29In fact, I read this other book,
- 14:30I did read this book on regrets called The Power of Regret.
- 14:34He did this global, the author, Daniel Pink,
- 14:37did this global study of regret.
- 14:38He said the number one regret is actually lost connections.
- 14:42It's not actually authenticity.
- 14:44And I like this idea of the biggest regret being
- 14:47actually quite a social regret losing touch.
- 14:50So maybe the invitation from this video
- 14:52that I didn't even know was gonna be the invitation
- 14:55is who can you reach out to who you've lost touch with?
- 14:57I know there are people,
- 14:58it's like do you ever avoid the avoidance
- 15:00where you like so ashamed that you've taken long to respond?
- 15:03So then you avoid the shame of not responding
- 15:05and then you therefore perpetuate the pain
- 15:07of not responding to someone.
- 15:09Totally there, totally in it.
- 15:11And hold yourself with love and grace.
- 15:15Grace is like the ground that all relationship walks on.
- 15:19And the more grace you give to yourself and to others,
- 15:22the more you can frolic, you cannot feel constrained.
- 15:25You cannot feel like you're walking on stilts,
- 15:27always precarious, always about to fall.
- 15:29So giving yourself grace, giving others grace
- 15:32when someone reaches out and apologizes profusely,
- 15:34giving them grace, it's okay, I understand.
- 15:38I've been there too.
- 15:40In fact, whenever someone takes months to respond to me,
- 15:42I almost feel relieved because I'm like,
- 15:44I'm not the only one.
- 15:45It makes me feel better about myself
- 15:47because I'm like, so we're all struggling to keep up.
- 15:51So if I owe you a text, just know it's coming your way.
- 15:54Oh, okay, anyways, how could you reach out to lost connection?
- 15:59We don't want that regret.
- 16:00Discomfort now, delight later.
- 16:03Always think of me when you think about discomfort now,
- 16:05delight later, discomfort uncomfortable to be seen now,
- 16:09delighted of what I built over many years later.
- 16:13Uncomfortable to take this first step now, delight later.
- 16:15Uncomfortable to apologize now,
- 16:17delightful later to be like,
- 16:18oh, my word, I repaired that relationship.
- 16:20Delightful, delightful.
- 16:22This uncomfortable to admit something in your life
- 16:24is seeking to be changed, let go of or released,
- 16:27integrated, you know,
- 16:28owned up to held accountable, whatever it may be,
- 16:31delightful on the other side to say I'm so proud of myself
- 16:34because that lesson could have taken me 10 years to learn.
- 16:37If you are seeking a creative community
- 16:40to face discomfort alongside you,
- 16:42I want to invite you to join Soulcraft.
- 16:44Soulcraft is a soul-led creative community,

- 17:10People who are soulful and heart-led,
- 17:13who have big dreams for what they want to create in their life,
- 17:15the creative birthing process, it is so vulnerable.
- 17:19It is so vulnerable for this video, I was like,
- 17:21oh, my word, I'm not gonna have the words to say.
- 17:24I'm not gonna have the words to say.
- 17:26And it's vulnerable, but you know what we do?
- 17:28We do it anyway with accountability and support.
- 17:31Many people have the exact same dream that you have.
- 17:34Many people wanna write a book,
- 17:35many people wanna have a podcast in a gorgeous studio
- 17:38where they travel across the world
- 17:39interviewing the most incredible magical wise guests.
- 17:42I'm not speaking about myself, no, I'm not.
- 17:45But the difference, I believe,
- 17:47can be the accountability that makes that dream inevitable.
- 17:51The support structure, the dream team
- 17:54that holds your soul's dream, okay?
- 17:57Every soul dream requires a soul team.
- 18:00If you are seeking one, it may be seeking you

- 18:32that I struggle with is the fear of being seen.
- 18:36You know that visibility is involved
- 18:38in you living your creative purpose
- 18:40and being in your power,
- 18:41serving the collective through your gifts,
- 18:44through your magic, through your medicine.
- 18:46In order to do that, you know you need to be more seen
- 18:50than you are allowing yourself to be right now.
- 18:53I have a gift just for you,
- 18:55heart made for us on this frequency.
- 18:58And it is a free ebook called
