- 0:02Happy Wednesday morning, everybody.
- 0:07As old Herman Munster would say, it's a beautiful day trying to
- 0:14rain just a little bit. They're saying just some
- 0:18sprinkles gonna roll on by. Saint Louis should be no problem
- 0:23for Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL on Friday night.
- 0:27And of course we got Pevely with the World of Outlaws on Friday
- 0:32night with the B mods and then Saturday with our A mods.
- 0:37So I'll see you this Friday at Tri-City Speedway, Granite City,
- 0:42IL and then of course going to race about 15 minutes down the
- 0:46road here at Pevely, Missouri. Kenny Schrader said there's a
- 0:50new name. It is Federated Auto Parts
- 0:55Raceway Park. Got to put put the word park on
- 0:59the end of it. So for all my friends, Herman
- 1:04Schrader comes out today is it's out already.
- 1:07Herman Schrader comes out already.
- 1:09Speaking of Kenny Schrader, today's topic.
- 1:17We would discuss, you know, situations in NASCAR or just, we
- 1:22would just discuss situations and, and Kenny, uh, shred, he'd
- 1:28say, you know, that's just the way it is harm times change and
- 1:32he's right. And of course we all know that.
- 1:35But it made me think this morning, when was the last time
- 1:40you saw, umm, a teenager or a 20 year old kid love racing.
- 1:47Now respond right here. I go to the racetrack more than
- 1:52you do, you know that. And when you see a young kid
- 1:56working on a race car, the whole garage area goes, what's that
- 2:00kid's name? Why is he, why does he like
- 2:03racing now? Now you're going to respond
- 2:07that, you know, you know, Joe and Bob and Bill's got a kid,
- 2:10but I'm talking when, when was the last time you saw a kid
- 2:16really enthusiastic? I mean, when you, when you look
- 2:19at these compact cars, you know, they're my God, that class.
- 2:25They've got these things light, they're buying headers for em.
- 2:27They're they're dying on em. But even the compact Hey, Kenny,
- 2:32get out of your mouth. OK, Herman, when you look at
- 2:38these compact cars, it, it's made-up of grown men, uh,
- 2:42middle-aged men. I really believe that yes, times
- 2:49change, but here's my thought process.
- 2:52I'm going to dig in the well a little bit means I'm going to
- 2:55dig deep on this one, but I, I really feel like I'm right back
- 3:01in my day. That's my, I think it's going to
- 3:07be my joke all year long, everybody 2025 since you all
- 3:11always made fun of you know, I'm proud of my brother.
- 3:13So it whenever I would start outgoing, you know, my brother
- 3:17Rusty, you all would chime in. Oh, my brother Rusty, huh, Like
- 3:21I'm not supposed to be proud of my brother.
- 3:23I I guess none of you are allowed to be proud of your
- 3:25family too. Now the new one is, you know,
- 3:29when I raced back in my day, used to go up to that shop right
- 3:36there and pull your vehicle in there.
- 3:41And hell, you know, the vehicles set high enough that sometimes
- 3:46if you were skinny like me, you could roll underneath there and
- 3:50you could grab a nine sixteenths wrench or whatever it was and
- 3:55metric wrench, whatever it was. And you you could pull the oil
- 3:58pan bolt and oil start coming out and you take the oil filter
- 4:04out. You put a new oil filter in.
- 4:07You put the plug back in. Then you roll around to the top.
- 4:10You open the hood up and you'd put yourself in, you know,
- 4:14however many quarts it took, and you change the oil.
- 4:20It was that easy. Then, you know, if you were
- 4:24spunky, you pull the air cleaner off.
- 4:27And while the air cleaner was off, you pulled the spark plug
- 4:29wires off and you put new plugs in.
- 4:34And then you put the plug wires back on.
- 4:36And before you put the air cleaner back on, you put a new
- 4:39air cleaner on it. And my friends, that was called
- 4:43service. You just serviced your vehicle.
- 4:46You did an oil change, put plugs on it.
- 4:50Sometimes you might put a new rotor button, rotor cap, plug
- 4:55wires. And you felt good about
- 4:58yourself. You felt really good about
- 5:01yourself. And that right there, when they
- 5:03quit doing that, that's when we lost the kids.
- 5:08Nowadays, if I need anything done to my car, I can't do it.
- 5:13I got to call my buddy Joe Rudy up at AL's Auto Service.
- 5:17Joe's the real deal. He's a great mechanic.
- 5:20But I'll tell you what, I'll go up to AL's Auto Service, I'll go
- 5:23up to Joe Rudy's place and he'll lift that baby up.
- 5:26And I, and I'm like this, my jaw's dropping.
- 5:28I'm like, I'm like, Joe, where did you get those tools?
- 5:32Or Herman? I got, I mean he got a half
- 5:35$1,000,000 in tools in these tool boxes.
- 5:39I know vehicles that you got to Jack up the left front, take the
- 5:42left front tire off 'cause the can oil filters up in the wheel
- 5:46well. One of those, you know, straight
- 5:48sixes or whatever they are 4 cylinders.
- 5:51Excuse me, once again, I know you know everything.
- 5:56OK, so respond right here. What's some of the goofiest
- 6:00thing you've seen on these cars Nowadays?
- 6:03There's no such thing as these kids getting involved in the
- 6:06cars because you got to have $500,000 worth of tools.
- 6:11Joe was changing a what was it? I maybe a little fuel filter.
- 6:16I don't know what he was doing, but he had this goofy ass tool.
- 6:19I'm like, what in the hell is that?
- 6:23The car companies, The car companies have taken the kids
- 6:27right out of these cars. That, my friends, is one reason
- 6:33that kids don't get involved in cars anymore.
- 6:35Hell, look at the NASCAR Cup cars nowadays.
- 6:39If, if a car blows a motor, if one of those next Gen. cars
- 6:42blows a motor, they come in, they take a frigging computer,
- 6:46plug it in and they tell you what happened to it used to be
- 6:52used to be like, let me get this motor apart and I'll tell you
- 6:55what happened. Now that's, that's a good thing.
- 7:01Another reason that they took the kids right out of these cars
- 7:04is because they started making better oil.
- 7:08I remember Brittany, my daughter, she had a car that it
- 7:13said change oil every 10,000 miles.
- 7:17It was a BMW. That's another story for another
- 7:20day. But brace, basically Brittany
- 7:22had no idea what the cost of a vehicle was.
- 7:25I chewed her ass out. I said you don't deserve
- 7:28anything that expensive. My oldest daughter Brooke said,
- 7:31Dad, dad, calm down. Brittany doesn't know that a BMW
- 7:34is an expensive car. It's her initials, Brittany
- 7:39Marie Wallace. I said, oh, OK, I get it.
- 7:46But when we bought that BMW, it said right there, change your
- 7:49oil every 10,000 miles. We love changing our oil every
- 7:543000 miles. Except here's the problem, you
- 7:58don't need to change your oil every 3000 miles anymore because
- 8:00the oil like Mobil one, Mobil one oil, hell, that stuff would
- 8:04go 10,000 miles all night long. The oil nowadays, I mean we're
- 8:10still bad on our I know all my buddies around the local area,
- 8:13they they're changing their oil in their race car every four
- 8:16races. Guys, that's 60 laps 8020406080
- 8:24you you can run your The only reason we change oil on a dirt
- 8:29car is because of all the dust We're afraid that might get by
- 8:32the air cleaner and get our oil dirty.
- 8:36The only reason we change oil in dirt cars so much is because
- 8:40we're afraid the dust will get through the air cleaner and make
- 8:43our oil dirty. But the viscosity, say it with
- 8:49me children viscosity, the oil, the Lube Ness, the Lube Lube
- 8:55Ness, the slipperiness, it stays in the oil nowadays.
- 8:59So for all these reasons, kids are out of racing because you
- 9:06you cannot work on the passenger car anymore.
- 9:08Now, some of you Drifters, you change your wheels, you put your
- 9:12Oklahoma tires on, you go out and go, you know, put some cool
- 9:17headlights on that you can buy at jags.com.
- 9:21By the way, if you want to fix your hot rod up, go to jags.com.
- 9:25Met a lady last night, I was wearing my Jags shirt and she
- 9:28goes, oh, my son just bought a transmission for his 2002
- 9:32Camaro. I said, oh, I love Camaros,
- 9:35they're awesome. You won't see them around
- 9:38anymore 'cause they got rid of them.
- 9:40So respond right here. Is that what caused the young
- 9:46kids to get out of racing so much?
- 9:49I mean, I know you're going to try to go against me.
- 9:51I get it because that's your job to go against me.
- 9:53You just don't see kids in the pits anymore.
- 9:56If you see a 24 year old kid that loves NASCAR, show me put
- 10:01his picture right here. And I know there's a lot of them
- 10:04out there, but for the most part those days are over.
- 10:08Respond right here. You're supposed to respond.
- 10:13You're going to tell me, has the car technology taking the kids
- 10:18out of racing? Yes or no?
- 10:22I think so. I just told you my reason.
- 10:24All right, everybody have a beautiful Wednesday.
