- 1:30Speaker 2: the Presence of Love with a synopsis.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yes, Professor Joss travels to England to visit the farm
- 1:37Speaker 1: where her late mother grew up and bonds with single
- 1:40Speaker 1: father Daniel, whose family now runs it. My gosh, these
- 1:47Speaker 1: sentences sometimes.
- 1:50Speaker 2: McLean Nelson directed The Presence of Love. He has seventeen
- 1:52Speaker 2: directing credits, including the Magic of Lemon Drops, Branching Out
- 1:55Speaker 2: and both Halout the Holly movies.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Nicole Baxter wrote the script for this one. She has
- 2:00Speaker 1: twenty two writing credits, including some recent favorites like an
- 2:04Speaker 1: Unexpected Valentine and Blind Date book Club.
- 2:08Speaker 2: You know you wrote the notes for this episode, so
- 2:10Speaker 2: all of this is brand new information to me. I
- 2:12Speaker 2: was like, oh, not all tracks, because like, great director,
- 2:16Speaker 2: great writer, me what I need to know about this movie?
- 2:19Speaker 2: Mm m Eloise Mumford plays Joss in the Presence of Love.
- 2:24Speaker 2: She has twenty nine acting credits and was last seen
- 2:26Speaker 2: on Hallmark in twenty twenty threes Sweeter than Chocolate. Right now,
- 2:30Speaker 2: she's starring in Cross on Amazon Prime, which also features
- 2:33Speaker 2: Hallmark favorite Kristin Booth. Julian Morris co star says Daniel
- 2:38Speaker 2: his pastwork concludes.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Roles in New Girl. Is it called New Girl?
- 2:43Speaker 2: I don't know, you know the show with the Yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 2: I know what you're talking about.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I thought it was called the New Girl. It's called
- 2:49Speaker 1: New Girl, Okay, New Girl? Pretty Little Liars and Little Women.
- 2:54Speaker 1: The Presence of Love was his second project for homework.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Amy Sharp plays Teagan. This movie, as well as one
- 3:00Speaker 2: episode of a series called The Wheel of Time, makes
- 3:02Speaker 2: up her two acting credits. That's criminal.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I know she's so cute.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Samantha Bond plays Maren. She's got a pretty extensive resume
- 3:12Speaker 1: dating back to nineteen eighty three. Some of her appearances
- 3:15Speaker 1: include Downton Abbey, Murdoch Mysteries, as well as several James
- 3:20Speaker 1: Bond films.
- 3:21Speaker 2: She was Miss Moneypenny and James Bond. I was looking
- 3:24Speaker 2: to see who. Oh she's late. That's who she is,
- 3:28Speaker 2: Lady Rosmand, She's the sister, the Aunt, the Sister. And
- 3:31Speaker 2: Downton Abbey. Amanda Blake plays Gwen. We last saw her
- 3:35Speaker 2: in her Penpal, making the Presence of Love her second
- 3:38Speaker 2: Hallmark movie. A Nondacie Barochia plays Felix. He has sixteen
- 3:42Speaker 2: acting credits with appearances in Days of Our Lives and Bridgerton.
- 3:46Speaker 2: He also appeared in one episode of the Nickelodeon series
- 3:49Speaker 2: The Fresh Beat Band.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Did you watch the Fresh Beat Band?
- 3:52Speaker 2: But I didn't. I think we're like, we just missed it.
- 3:56Speaker 1: We watched a lot of the Fresh Beat Band. I
- 3:59Speaker 1: don't remember this particular actor, but you know lots of
- 4:02Speaker 1: Fresh Beeat Band. June be Wild plays Robin. She has
- 4:05Speaker 1: ninety nine acting credits with roles that span Hallmark, Lifetime
- 4:09Speaker 1: and prime time television.
- 4:12Speaker 2: This movie was filmed on location in Cornwall, England. Let's
- 4:15Speaker 2: take a quick break and we're gonna come right back
- 4:17Speaker 2: with our first impressions of the presence of love. Hey, Wendy,
- 4:29Speaker 2: what's your first impression of the presence of love? If
- 4:31Speaker 2: I could give this movie ten stars, I would, Oh
- 4:34Speaker 2: my gosh, Oh my gosh. My first impression is Nobody
- 4:40Speaker 2: told me grand was gonna make me cry twice.
- 4:43Speaker 1: No kidding, because I'm We're gonna talk about it. But
- 4:46Speaker 1: holy cow, she was not nice. She was very intimidating
- 4:52Speaker 1: it and then she ended up being my favorite. Yes,
- 4:56Speaker 1: all right, let's talk about likes.
- 4:58Speaker 2: So much to say. First of all, I gotta say
- 5:01Speaker 2: I love an anxiety storyline.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I mean, bravo to Hallmark.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah, they really went all the way in, like she's
- 5:08Speaker 2: has anxiety, she's living with anxiety, she's medicated for anxiety,
- 5:12Speaker 2: she has strategies for dealing with it, she still deals
- 5:14Speaker 2: with these panic attacks. I mean, make it front and center.
- 5:18Speaker 2: I loved it.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I was. I was really surprised how how this
- 5:24Speaker 1: movie was so much deeper than I had expected it
- 5:27Speaker 1: to be. Yeah, I thought it was going to be
- 5:31Speaker 1: super typical Hallmark movie. I thought it was gonna be
- 5:34Speaker 1: like unhappy girl runs away to foreign country, you know, Like, yes,
- 5:41Speaker 1: I don't. I don't know truly what I expected. But
- 5:45Speaker 1: the storylines about mental health, dyslexia, we have themes of heartbreak, grief, loss.
- 5:50Speaker 1: It was all well written and well acted.
- 5:55Speaker 2: I agree this movie. It has so many layers, yes,
- 6:00Speaker 2: and I really feel like they do them all justice. Again.
- 6:06Speaker 2: You have Joss and her career upheaval. You have Daniel
- 6:12Speaker 2: dealing with what's next for the farm as well as
- 6:16Speaker 2: trying to be the single parent to a daughter, and
- 6:20Speaker 2: Teagan is dealing with learning disability, and you have the
- 6:25Speaker 2: mom struggle there. I just all of these different storylines
- 6:28Speaker 2: and they all wove together so well. I really loved it.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Yeah. Sometimes Hallmark can throw too much at a story, right,
- 6:39Speaker 1: and this had a lot, it had a lot, but
- 6:42Speaker 1: it was so nicely done. Yeah, it just all came together.
- 6:47Speaker 1: It was really well done, really really well done. Can
- 6:51Speaker 1: we talk about Samantha Bond.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Yeah. Now I loved Ellobie's Mumford a, Julie and Morris
- 7:00Speaker 2: and Julian Morris in this, but Samantha Bond is an
- 7:03Speaker 2: absolute star. And as you said, she is kind of mean, like,
- 7:07Speaker 2: she is not warm. She doesn't really want Joss there
- 7:12Speaker 2: in the rental. She's kind of pushing back on some
- 7:16Speaker 2: of the decisions her son has made. She's not the
- 7:20Speaker 2: warm kind grandmother, although she very clearly loves Tigan. That's clear.
- 7:25Speaker 2: She's difficult.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:29Speaker 2: She has two scenes in this movie. First where she
- 7:33Speaker 2: brings the box to Jos which includes the book of Poetry,
- 7:38Speaker 2: and she's so lovely to her when she talks about
- 7:42Speaker 2: how she had found it and it didn't seem like anything,
- 7:44Speaker 2: but she knew it meant something to somebody, and she
- 7:47Speaker 2: talks about her mother and she just gives her this
- 7:49Speaker 2: opportunity to have this moment. I sobbed when Elouise Mumford
- 7:54Speaker 2: as Josh was crying in that moment talking about missing
- 7:58Speaker 2: her mom. It was a really emotional moment.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I agree.
- 8:03Speaker 2: And then at the festival, little Teagan is gonna say
- 8:09Speaker 2: her poem and for a second I thought she was
- 8:14Speaker 2: gonna dance because they were talking about how like dancing helped.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Oh yeah, but instead she has her cue cards from
- 8:22Speaker 2: her grandma. When grandma flips up that first que card
- 8:25Speaker 2: with the photos she had drawn in order to help
- 8:28Speaker 2: her be able to remember and read, immediately tears. I'm
- 8:32Speaker 2: sobbing in that moment.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I know me too. I sent Megan a screenshot I
- 8:36Speaker 1: was like with a crying emoji. Yeah, I'm so glad
- 8:40Speaker 1: that we both had the same reaction. You know.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I think it's also like who we are, like we're
- 8:45Speaker 2: moms and just like that way she showed up for
- 8:48Speaker 2: that little girl in that moment and supported her so
- 8:51Speaker 2: she you know, she was so nervous about being on stage.
- 8:54Speaker 2: It was lovely.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I know that scene absolutely laid me out, like what
- 9:02Speaker 1: what am I doing? I'm crying over this? Yeah, it
- 9:05Speaker 1: was so good. It was so so so good. I
- 9:08Speaker 1: want to talk about Elouise Mumford here for second. I
- 9:12Speaker 1: think she also gave a really great standout performance, especially
- 9:17Speaker 1: when she would portray like Joss having panic attack.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:23Speaker 1: I thought the way that well this this might be
- 9:29Speaker 1: just more of like the story too, but like the
- 9:31Speaker 1: way that she used the poetry as a coping mechanism,
- 9:34Speaker 1: and it was just like a beautiful, seamless way to
- 9:37Speaker 1: like tie the the movies like literary references throughout. Like
- 9:43Speaker 1: I just really like those scenes. I'll connect her back
- 9:46Speaker 1: to my mom. Yeah, they were so good, they were
- 9:49Speaker 1: so done, done so well. And I also really loved
- 9:54Speaker 1: her the warmth that she shows Tea in all this
- 10:00Speaker 1: stuff about like helping her with the dyslexia and like
- 10:04Speaker 1: how to learn differently. I thought it was just so
- 10:08Speaker 1: smart and obviously like Teagan's mom left, right, we get
- 10:17Speaker 1: that story later on when Daniel tells how she just
- 10:20Speaker 1: like up and leaves and it's not like Daniel's not
- 10:22Speaker 1: looking for like a replacement mom for Tegan at all, right,
- 10:27Speaker 1: simply just she offered the help and that's what that's
- 10:31Speaker 1: what was going on. I just loved all those scenes.
- 10:34Speaker 2: They were just so good. Yeah, you could tell the
- 10:37Speaker 2: grandmother was really hesitant about having Joss offer that help
- 10:41Speaker 2: because she immediately jumped to like, oh, she's a mother
- 10:44Speaker 2: figure in her life and she's gonna leave too, which
- 10:48Speaker 2: I was watching and I was trying to decide. I
- 10:51Speaker 2: was like, look, she's just a visitor, Like it's okay
- 10:53Speaker 2: for her to connect with this little girl. She's not
- 10:55Speaker 2: making her lifelong promises, Like Teagan's smart enough to understand
- 11:00Speaker 2: that this woman is potentially here temporarily, like she's a
- 11:04Speaker 2: guest exactly. I was gonna also mention Julian Morris. I
- 11:07Speaker 2: really liked him too.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I love the dry English humor, and there were some cute,
- 11:15Speaker 1: like funny lines. You know, we recently recorded our review
- 11:23Speaker 1: for Her pen Pal, and you said that was like
- 11:25Speaker 1: too romantic, there was not enough calm in it, right,
- 11:28Speaker 1: How would you depick this movie that's so funny?
- 11:30Speaker 2: That's a great question, because there's not a lot of
- 11:33Speaker 2: comedy in this movie. But I think the difference is
- 11:37Speaker 2: this feels more dramatic, This is more like a romantic drama,
- 11:41Speaker 2: whereas Her pen Pal is more pure romance. And I
- 11:44Speaker 2: think the addition of some of the heavier themes in
- 11:47Speaker 2: this movie, I love a rom com but I think
- 11:50Speaker 2: elevates this movie for me over her pen pal dealing
- 11:54Speaker 2: with oh totally, the loss of her mother, the loss
- 11:56Speaker 2: of Tiagan's mother, the business decisions, her work decisions, anxiety.
- 12:00Speaker 2: All of that adds to the story. And so while
- 12:06Speaker 2: I do think this is romance, I don't think the
- 12:10Speaker 2: success of the movie relies quite as heavily on the
- 12:15Speaker 2: success of the romance.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Agree, agree. But with that said, there were some
- 12:20Speaker 1: funny little lines, mostly in the dialogue between jos and
- 12:24Speaker 1: Daniel about like being a wing man, and there was
- 12:29Speaker 1: it was all like americanisms basically that were large translation. Anyway,
- 12:36Speaker 1: I enjoyed that. I enjoyed it. Two more things I
- 12:42Speaker 1: really liked. I liked that the end of the movie
- 12:44Speaker 1: had a one year later moment.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah huh.
- 12:47Speaker 1: However, I wanted more. It was not enough for me.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, I agree.
- 12:52Speaker 2: And at that point I was willing to let them
- 12:54Speaker 2: be further along in their relationship.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Yes, me too. I was like, I feel like homemark
- 13:00Speaker 1: now has trained me, show me now that they're married
- 13:04Speaker 1: or she is pregnant or something, you know what I mean.
- 13:08Speaker 2: It wasn't.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I just wanted more. I just wanted more. I mean,
- 13:12Speaker 1: it was perfectly fine how it was, but yeah, I
- 13:16Speaker 1: totally agree. I just loved their story so much. And
- 13:20Speaker 1: one thing, the final thing that I liked is the
- 13:23Speaker 1: conflict between Joss and Daniel is never really a conflict
- 13:27Speaker 1: between the two of them.
- 13:28Speaker 2: It's just circumstantial. She doesn't live here and she's in theory,
- 13:33Speaker 2: has to go back home. And I really liked how
- 13:36Speaker 2: he was like, what are you gonna do? Your job
- 13:37Speaker 2: isn't here. She's like, I don't know. I guess I'm
- 13:39Speaker 2: gonna figure it out. I liked that it was very
- 13:41Speaker 2: much like, well, we're gonna have to figure that out.
- 13:44Speaker 2: There is something here that needs to be handled, but
- 13:47Speaker 2: let's see what happens.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:51Speaker 1: My last thing that I really love, like the scenery
- 13:53Speaker 1: was so beautiful in this movie. And I will be
- 13:58Speaker 1: headed to England very soon, and I googled to see
- 14:01Speaker 1: how far because we'll be in London. I googled to
- 14:03Speaker 1: see how far Cornwall would be. It's too far. It's
- 14:07Speaker 1: like a four hour, four hour that's too far. Not
- 14:11Speaker 1: gonna do it, but stunning, so pretty, and in fact,
- 14:15Speaker 1: in fact, I thought, based on like the movie art
- 14:18Speaker 1: of this movie, I thought it took place in Ireland,
- 14:21Speaker 1: sayings of how green and lush. It was all right,
- 14:25Speaker 1: let's talk wishes, I have you go for you? I
- 14:28Speaker 1: have very few, very very few. I think on the surface,
- 14:31Speaker 1: this movie could seem like a sleepy movie because it
- 14:36Speaker 1: is kind of like the pace is a little slow,
- 14:38Speaker 1: but it progresses as it should, like nothing is hurried
- 14:43Speaker 1: up too quickly. Right. I did try to watch this
- 14:47Speaker 1: movie once and ended up falling asleep, but that's not
- 14:53Speaker 1: totally uncommon with me. So but I didn't think it
- 14:58Speaker 1: was like slow, We're pain slow.
- 15:01Speaker 2: No, I totally agree.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I think it's it's like a quiet movie, but it's
- 15:07Speaker 1: not a sleepy movie. My other thing is my other
- 15:12Speaker 1: little wish is that director McClean nelson does not get
- 15:15Speaker 1: enough credit as a director in the Hallmark universe. He's
- 15:18Speaker 1: a really good director. I agree when you look at
- 15:21Speaker 1: that resume, I mean, those are some of our absolute
- 15:24Speaker 1: favorite I think Nicole Baxter is another one. I think
- 15:30Speaker 1: that's not a for me, that's not a household hallmarketing
- 15:33Speaker 1: when you ask me to name Hallmark writers. And the
- 15:35Speaker 1: fact that she wrote an Unexpected Valentine and Blind Day
- 15:38Speaker 1: book Club as well as this one, I mean, girls
- 15:40Speaker 1: got some chops. M M.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I wonder what she's doing next, because hopefully it's a
- 15:47Speaker 2: Christmas movie or there's something coming.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Are you googling?
- 15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm looking her on IMDb right now. Unexpected Valentine
- 15:56Speaker 2: was the last thing that she was credited with, but
- 15:58Speaker 2: that doesn't that doesn't mean any thing, so there could
- 16:01Speaker 2: be more coming.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Great.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I honestly I don't really have any wishes like there
- 16:06Speaker 2: when I look at this movie, there was other than
- 16:09Speaker 2: to your point about like, yeah, I wanted more from them.
- 16:12Speaker 2: I think that's very rare where we can say like, oh,
- 16:15Speaker 2: I just wanted them to like continue telling this story.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Like I would absolutely go back. I'm not all in
- 16:20Speaker 2: on a sequel usually, but I would. I think this one,
- 16:24Speaker 2: there's so much story to tell with all of these characters.
- 16:28Speaker 2: I think you could absolutely do a sequel here and
- 16:32Speaker 2: still tell another really beautiful story.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so too. I think so too. Let's
- 16:37Speaker 1: talk to you to see that I have a few Okay,
- 16:40Speaker 1: actually this one is so stupid. But at the beginning,
- 16:45Speaker 1: after Joss has her conversation with the Dean about her
- 16:51Speaker 1: paper or whatever, huh, and she's low key panicking and
- 16:55Speaker 1: she looks at the clock to take her meds and
- 16:57Speaker 1: the clock reads for twenty and I'm like.
- 17:00Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I am twelve years old. But I was like, do
- 17:05Speaker 1: you think they did that on purpose? I don't know,
- 17:08Speaker 1: is that some prop skylick? Let me see if I
- 17:10Speaker 1: can sneak this in there. Maybe I don't know, Maybe
- 17:13Speaker 1: maybe I have two other digit See, that's one is
- 17:17Speaker 1: the number of coats Joss has.
- 17:20Speaker 2: One hundred percent one of my digits. That's that's a
- 17:22Speaker 2: big ass twit case you would need for.
- 17:24Speaker 1: All those coats, I mean at least five, Like she
- 17:26Speaker 1: had a bright pink one, a hound's tooth one, like
- 17:29Speaker 1: so many, very very cute. But I was like, you're
- 17:33Speaker 1: only there two weeks. I don't know why you're bringing
- 17:35Speaker 1: so many coats? Come on?
- 17:37Speaker 2: Yes, and honestly it was mentioned in many IMDb reviews,
- 17:40Speaker 2: but I noticed. I mean, I loved her coats. They
- 17:42Speaker 2: were beautiful, but I feel like you traveled with one. Yeah,
- 17:45Speaker 2: one coat exactly.
- 17:47Speaker 1: And the last digit see that I had is McLain.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Nelson's wife and fellow director, Claire Nita Pruhm, was a
- 17:54Speaker 1: producer on this movie.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Nice. Did I know that they were married. I don't know, Yes,
- 18:01Speaker 2: you knew that, I did, all right? Well did you
- 18:05Speaker 2: see that? Other than the coats is there's a lot
- 18:07Speaker 2: of apparent green screen in this movie, really, which is
- 18:11Speaker 2: weird because it's filmed on now. A lot of it's
- 18:12Speaker 2: in the car. There's a shot if you go back
- 18:15Speaker 2: and look, this is real nitpicky. But if you go
- 18:17Speaker 2: back and look at them, like driving in the car,
- 18:19Speaker 2: there's a shot of the dog, and then they flash
- 18:21Speaker 2: to Daniel in the rear view mirror, and then just
- 18:24Speaker 2: just the whole thing.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Is like, who this is real green screening?
- 18:27Speaker 2: And then there were so many moments where they're on
- 18:29Speaker 2: the water with like water behind them. I'm like, that
- 18:32Speaker 2: does not look real. Are my eyes playing tricks on me?
- 18:36Speaker 2: Or did they have to add in that because you
- 18:39Speaker 2: pulled When they pulled back from the screen the scene,
- 18:41Speaker 2: I was like, that looks real. But the close ups
- 18:44Speaker 2: of the scene, it just I think there's more green
- 18:46Speaker 2: screen in this movie than they wanted us to think.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Got it, got it?
- 18:51Speaker 2: We already talked about it. But I do think this
- 18:53Speaker 2: is the first panic attack we've ever seen on Hallmark,
- 18:56Speaker 2: is my fa Did you see that?
- 18:57Speaker 1: I think so too, it has to be.
- 18:59Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think I think we even need
- 19:01Speaker 2: to ask, but what did you rate the Presence of Love?
- 19:03Speaker 1: Five stars?
