Transcript
- 0:00Hello and welcome to Mommy Wood. I'm so happy that you're here
- 0:05and today we're going there. I'm doing it.
- 0:08I'm finally saying it out loud, talking about my dream role.
- 0:12That's what we're talking about today.
- 0:15I know it's hard to say out loud and it's just something I've
- 0:20been thinking about and I feel like as moms we don't talk about
- 0:26our big dreams enough. So this episode is about
- 0:29manifesting. It's about why I haven't said
- 0:35this dream roll out loud, Why I've hesitated to say it, and
- 0:43how motherhood has changed this role for me.
- 0:48My dream role how how motherhood has changed what I thought my
- 0:53dream role was and all of that. So let's just let's get into it.
- 0:59Let's manifest today, shall we? I also want to hear about what
- 1:05your dream roles are and how you have changed, how that dream
- 1:11role has changed or not since you've become a mom.
- 1:15So let's get our emotional support.
- 1:18Iced coffees or hot coffee, tea, Margarita, whatever you will,
- 1:24and let's manifest. OK, so my dream role, I want to
- 1:31be a sitcom mom. There, I've said it.
- 1:34I want to be a sitcom mom specifically.
- 1:37I would really like to be on well, I'm not going to pick a
- 1:44show because I feel like the show that I want hasn't been
- 1:51created yet, but I would like to be on a Chuck Lorre show.
- 1:57And I say that specifically because I have been on 2 of
- 2:02Chuck Lorre's sets now and they have been so wonderful and such
- 2:08great experience that let's just put it out there, why not?
- 2:13I I would more specifically really like to actually be on a
- 2:20live audience sitcom because I feel like that schedule is so
- 2:27great, especially for moms. I think it's just perfection.
- 2:34I would like to, I would like to be able to put my daughter to
- 2:40bed, have dinner with my daughter.
- 2:42I, I feel like I've been kind of training for this role my whole
- 2:48life just because my, my background, my training is in
- 2:53theater. And I feel like this sitcom, and
- 2:56I know that they're so few and far between now, but I feel like
- 2:59especially the live audience, sitcoms are so much more
- 3:06theatrical. And getting that immediate
- 3:10response from the audience, I feel like I could really thrive
- 3:14on that. Especially from my theater
- 3:18experience. I'm more used to that.
- 3:22But I will say, I don't think this role has been my dream role
- 3:28forever. I think it's more of a new a new
- 3:33dream role for me. Unfortunately, at some point I
- 3:37told my mom and she likes to repeat it to me that I feel like
- 3:42I'm going to be one of those people who doesn't find their
- 3:45big success until they're in their 30s, which hello is coming
- 3:49and going. It's we're almost done.
- 3:52So manifesting here we are. Yes, yes, please and thank you.
- 3:59So yeah, I do think the last couple years, few years, like
- 4:05right before I became a mom, I was getting a lot more mom
- 4:11auditions. And I feel like I've really kind
- 4:16of settled into that. Not saying by any means that
- 4:21once you're a mom, you can only play moms.
- 4:23Like I just want to make that very clear that I do not think
- 4:27that is true whatsoever. But I do think that I've kind of
- 4:34kept this like a dream role. I feel like we don't.
- 4:42I've kept it inside. I feel like I don't share my
- 4:46big, my big dreams and my big goals often.
- 4:51And I feel like a lot of women do that because it's scary.
- 4:56It's scary to say those big dreams out loud because what if
- 5:02they don't happen? What if, you know, it's kind of
- 5:06like, what do they say? Don't tell people you're writing
- 5:09a screenplay. Tell them when you're done.
- 5:13So I feel like it's just being, you know, being scared And, and,
- 5:18and I think it's vulnerable for anybody in any industry to share
- 5:24a dream or, you know, or a big idea.
- 5:29I think it can be scary because especially in this industry, IA
- 5:36lot of times feel like I'm too late.
- 5:39I didn't come to LA until a few years after college.
- 5:45I was in New York first. I feel like I wasn't out here
- 5:49auditioning when I was a teenager.
- 5:51I don't have any nepotism. I don't have any people in my
- 5:56family in the industry. So I feel like with all of those
- 6:01things working against me, and then you add the whole lovely
- 6:07ageism of Hollywood as a factor, that it's just so hard that I
- 6:15feel like I am too late and or I'll feel a sense of judgement
- 6:21like, oh, she thinks she can do that, great.
- 6:23But I don't feel that way towards other people.
- 6:26Again, nobody is thinking of us as much as we think they are.
- 6:32So to put that pressure on ourselves of what other people
- 6:36think, it's just stupid. And I know it is.
- 6:40I know it is, we know it is, right.
- 6:43So I think we should all be sharing these big dreams.
- 6:48I think it's important to say them out loud.
- 6:51I think it's important to share them especially with with the
- 6:57people you love in your life and people that are going to root
- 7:00for you. I do think it's important to
- 7:03have not just have a big dream or have a goal, but ways to work
- 7:09towards them because obviously I can't just be like, I want to be
- 7:12a sitcom mom. Hopefully I just get that
- 7:16audition tomorrow. That's not going to happen.
- 7:19I need to make sure I have the right headshots that are putting
- 7:23me in that category. I need to make sure that I am
- 7:27doing my, my improv training, that I am keeping up with my
- 7:34comedic timing, my acting classes.
- 7:37And that costs money. And especially once you have a
- 7:42kid, money is not falling off the trees, not growing on trees.
- 7:50So, so that that is hard, but that doesn't mean it's
- 7:55impossible. I think that motherhood has
- 7:59definitely reshaped this dream for me, especially because, and
- 8:06don't get me wrong, as where I am in the industry in my career
- 8:10right now, I'm I'm not saying no to roles that are not, you know,
- 8:16this series regular sitcom mom. I am still auditioning for a lot
- 8:21of things. I would love to do more
- 8:25commercials. I would love to be in movies.
- 8:27Those schedules serve films are not great.
- 8:32A lot of times schedules for filming anything isn't great,
- 8:36which is another reason I think motherhood has really impacted
- 8:43this dream role of mine of the sitcom sitcom mom because of the
- 8:50schedule or yeah, so I just mom, mom brain, brain fog.
- 9:01I don't think I've come very close to it yet, for sure.
- 9:07I have definitely had a lot of mom roles, have had comedic mom
- 9:11roles, have had commercial mom roles, have had dramatic mom
- 9:14roles. So I'm hoping that is all
- 9:18eventually leading up to just something something.
- 9:24So again, it's all that accumulating into what we really
- 9:32want. Not to say that I that anyone
- 9:36role is going to be the final role for anyone.
- 9:42Like, you know, even if you're on, if you're on the next, you
- 9:48know, Modern Family, it's you know, Julie, Julie Bowen still
- 9:54has a long time to go. She was on that show for a long
- 9:57time and then it ended. I mean, it was great, but it all
- 10:02good things come to an end. So there's always something next
- 10:08to. So it's always good to have a
- 10:10few a few dreams. I guess maybe I should think of
- 10:13a few, a few more. I think like what the dream is
- 10:20versus what the reality of what this dream would be.
- 10:25It's definitely going to be different.
- 10:27You know, we can manifest and dream up these these scenarios,
- 10:35but it might not look like what I have in my head.
- 10:39And I feel like that happens a lot for actors, especially when
- 10:45you're younger and thinking, OK, I got my BFA in acting.
- 10:48I'll just go out, do some auditions, and then I'll, you
- 10:51know, book stuff that's not what it looks like or thinking I have
- 10:56my BFA in acting. I don't need to take class
- 10:59anymore. Yeah, wrong.
- 11:02Very, very wrong. So things are never what they
- 11:07seem. So even though we're manifesting
- 11:12all of the specifics of exactly what we want, it might not be
- 11:20exactly what we want, you know, you know what I'm saying, But I
- 11:24think it's important to sit down.
- 11:27I did this once in a, not a, not a hypnosis session, but
- 11:38something, something like that. But talking about the very
- 11:45specifics of what you want, like from the moment you wake up to
- 11:50the moment you go to bed, like go through that.
- 11:54Where is your house? What is your house?
- 11:57Look? What's your look like?
- 11:59What is your bed look like? Who's how are you waking up an
- 12:03alarm, your kid? How are you getting up?
- 12:07What are you having for breakfast?
- 12:09Are you having coffee? What are you doing?
- 12:11Is a car coming for you to pick you up to go on set?
- 12:14Are you driving yourself? How are the people in hair and
- 12:17makeup? Like all of the specifics do
- 12:20you? What do you do for lunch?
- 12:22Are you bringing your kid to school?
- 12:24Who has dinner at home? Is somebody cleaning your house?
- 12:28When do you get to pick up your kid from school?
- 12:31Do you get to make dinner or do you want dinner made for you?
- 12:35All of these like very specific things.
- 12:39I think it's so interesting and so fun to do.
- 12:47If you haven't done that, I think that's that's a good
- 12:50thing. And I think I'm going to, I
- 12:52think I'm going to do that again soon because it's been it's been
- 12:56a minute since I've done that. So I feel like, yeah, I feel
- 13:01like that's a good, a good way to kind of move this saying the
- 13:07dream role, go through the manifestation.
- 13:12I'm like, start taking the steps of like how we're going to make
- 13:20this manifestation happen, like the networking, the like I said,
- 13:25the headshots, the footage that I have for myself, like I need
- 13:30to make sure that it all fits together in this, this beautiful
- 13:35little package of sitcom moms, which I think is good.
- 13:40Of course, there's always still those limiting beliefs that we
- 13:45have of, as I said before, feeling like I'm too late,
- 13:51feeling like I don't have enough time.
- 13:56The days go by so fast and I feel like even with my daughter
- 14:01at school, I'm getting nothing done.
- 14:05I feel like it's so important to schedule the hours of the day
- 14:12because most of the time I feel like I bring my daughter to
- 14:15school. I, you know, maybe work out,
- 14:18shower, get ready for the day and then it's like over, which
- 14:24it's not over. There's still like several hours
- 14:27left before I even have to get my daughter.
- 14:28But I think really honing in on the hours of the day of what I
- 14:34can do and making those lists, the list, the To Do List that I
- 14:39love. I told my husband on our first
- 14:42date that I love lists and he's still around folks, He's still
- 14:47around. So I think working through
- 14:52getting rid of a lot of those limiting beliefs, maybe, you
- 14:58know, finding a new therapist for myself would help.
- 15:01I think that's, I mean, therapy is always a great idea, right?
- 15:07And then I would say to anybody else who is listening and afraid
- 15:13to say their big dreams out loud to go for it to just you can
- 15:20just send it to me like on Instagram or, you know, comment,
- 15:25you know, well, I guess I don't know if people can see the
- 15:28comments on Spotify, but DM me on Instagram or TikTok like I'm
- 15:36I want if you want me to share it, I will.
- 15:39But if you don't, I will not. I'm a vault, but I think at
- 15:43least to have a friend or have somebody hear this dream, maybe
- 15:49say it out loud. Maybe that's a nice fresh of
- 15:54breath air. What breath of fresh air?
- 15:58You think that getting your big dreams out of your mouth?
- 16:06Just say it out loud in a room to yourself.
- 16:09I want to be a sitcom mom or, you know, I want to be the next
- 16:14Mariska Hargitay or I want to, you know, be the commercial
- 16:23queen. Like, I don't know, whatever
- 16:24your dream is. And I know that we can't really
- 16:30control most of that. So having those big dreams said
- 16:35out loud is just a way to like put it out into the earth
- 16:39because yeah, we can't control any aspect of her career.
- 16:46I mean, most aspects of her career it's and it's not linear.
- 16:51So I think just to say them out loud to put them into the
- 16:56universe is the first step. Like I'm also not saying like I
- 17:04want to book 5 Co stars by the end of the year.
- 17:07Like, yeah, sure, but I don't have control over that.
- 17:13So what am I going to do to take the steps towards the big dream,
- 17:20the things that I can control, like I said, my networking or
- 17:28head shots and reels and, you know, doing the research of
- 17:33who's working on these things that I want to be a part of.
- 17:37So let's just start by saying our big dreams out loud,
- 17:42celebrating that we have these big dreams and dream roles and
- 17:50celebrate each other, especially as women, as mothers.
- 17:55Let's lift each other up. You got this.
- 17:58You're doing great. Say that dream out loud.
- 18:01Make sure you share with me. I want to hear, I really want to
- 18:06hear what other people's big dreams, big dream roles, big
- 18:12dream ideas. So be sure to share with me and
- 18:19thank you for being here and being a part of Mommy Wood.
