Transcript
- 0:44Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Have Faith, Let It Begin.
- 0:47This is the great customer service part two edition.
- 0:51Customer service isn't dead. That's right. My name is Angel Santana.
- 0:56This is Have Faith, Let It Begin. It's a Friday.
- 0:58Don't forget, programming note this Sunday, I'll be preaching at the church
- 1:02for Father's Day. It is a Father's Day weekend. I hope you all enjoy your weekend.
- 1:07Well, yesterday, I shared a story about exceptional customer service at AT&T
- 1:11and FirstNet and how a few individuals made what could have been a routine visit
- 1:17into a memorable experience.
- 1:19Today, I want to continue that conversation because great customer service is
- 1:25not limited to a single company or industry.
- 1:29Great customer service is about people. It's about kindness.
- 1:32It's about patience. It's about making someone feel valued.
- 1:37And recently, I experienced that at Men's Warehouse, store 5426 on Route 211
- 1:44in Middletown, New York. Looking for a suit?
- 1:48With Father's Day approaching and sermon seasons around the corner for us pastors,
- 1:53I knew it was time for a new suit. I needed a new suit.
- 1:58Now, I've always heard good things about Men's Warehouse.
- 2:01People often talk about their selections, their experience, their expertise,
- 2:06and their ability to help customers find exactly what they need.
- 2:11So I decided, why not? Let me step over there and stop in. It was right after work.
- 2:16And then what I found was much more than a clothing store.
- 2:20You see, I found a team that genuinely, and I do mean genuinely,
- 2:24cared about helping people.
- 2:27So let me tell you about this person that I met.
- 2:30The store manager, which I didn't know at the time, who assisted me, his name is Dante.
- 2:35And from the very beginning, right off the jump, I could tell this guy knew his craft.
- 2:41Somebody who has been in sales myself previously for over 25 years,
- 2:45you kind of can just figure it out.
- 2:46But I will tell you, he was helping multiple customers and Dante was busy and he had it under control.
- 2:55He was answering questions left and right. He was coordinating with staff.
- 2:59Yet somehow he still made me feel like I was his top priority.
- 3:04That's not easy to do. Anyone can help customer when they walk into the store or when a store is empty.
- 3:11But the true test comes when you're juggling multiple responsibilities and still
- 3:15make people feel important.
- 3:18And Dante did that exactly. He exactly, he was just a professional.
- 3:24One thing that stood out was how knowledgeable he was.
- 3:28He knew what styles were trending. He knew what worked for the different positions
- 3:32or professionalisms or professions, I should say.
- 3:36And he knew which suits fit different body types. And mostly,
- 3:40most importantly, I should say, he understood what worked for me.
- 3:44As someone preparing for sermons, attending ministry events,
- 3:47and representing both my church and my podcast, I wanted something professional but comfortable.
- 3:54Dante guided me through the options and helped me find a suit that felt right.
- 3:58And yes, I found some shoes to go along with that too. Hey, they were marked down, by the way.
- 4:05You know, I couldn't pass that up. You know, shoes are very hard to come by
- 4:10when you really like them and they were awesome.
- 4:12Hope you got your pair, by the way, Dante.
- 4:15So now I'm officially ready for Father's Day Sunday sermon.
- 4:19You know, that moment, believe it or not, really did stand out for me.
- 4:23But the moment that really stayed with me wasn't actually about me.
- 4:28It was about a young man shopping for his prom outfit.
- 4:34The young gentleman had his eyes on a white suit, or at least I think it was
- 4:37white, like a cream colored style.
- 4:39And let me tell you, that suit was fire, as the kids would say.
- 4:43Everyone around him was telling him he looked great, but like many young people
- 4:47trying to do something new, he wasn't completely sure. He wasn't sure if he liked it.
- 4:53He was nervous. It was obvious. He wasn't used to wearing something that bold. His words.
- 4:59Eventually, he decided to go with a different shirt and tie combination.
- 5:02And that's when I saw something that impressed me.
- 5:05Dante didn't rush him.
- 5:08He didn't pressure him. He didn't push a sale on him. Instead,
- 5:14he took the time to teach.
- 5:16He even showed him how to tie a tie.
- 5:19He demonstrated different knot styles. He talked about the Windsor knot.
- 5:23He explained options and helped the young man understand what would work best.
- 5:28That's customer service.
- 5:30Not just telling, not just selling, teaching, encouraging, helping someone feel confident.
- 5:38That is what Dante brought, and teamwork right there that matters.
- 5:45So where do we go from here? What impressed me throughout the entire visit was
- 5:50the entire staff that worked directly with him.
- 5:52Questions would come up, someone would step in, another customer needed help,
- 5:57someone else would assist.
- 5:59There was a genuine sense of teamwork.
- 6:02And when customers see that kind of culture, they noticed.
- 6:05I noticed. a message now to every single leader out there in sales or in customer
- 6:12service for that matter.
- 6:14Well, let me redirect this question and this statement to anyone from Men's
- 6:20Warehouse Leadership, whoever hears this episode.
- 6:24I want to recognize store 5426 in Middletown.
- 6:29I especially want to recognize Dante because his patience, his professionalism,
- 6:33his kindness, his product knowledge, and his ability to make customers feel valued.
- 6:39That's what keeps people coming back.
- 6:41And I can tell you right now, this was my very first visit, but it won't be my last.
- 6:49So let me close with this. As I was walking out of the store,
- 6:53that young gentleman with his mom was talking.
- 6:56And you would think they were talking about where they were going to go next
- 6:59or maybe have buyer's remorse. No, you know what the conversation was?
- 7:04How they would most likely come back and do business here because of the way
- 7:09Dante and the staff treated them. There you go.
- 7:13You know, one of the things I've learned over the years is that people may forget what you sold them.
- 7:19They may forget the price. They may even forget the details,
- 7:23but they'll remember how you made them feel.
- 7:27Yesterday, we talked about kindness. Today, we're talking about service.
- 7:33And the truth is, they go hand in hand.
- 7:36Whether you're helping someone switch phone plans, pick out a suit,
- 7:42preparing for a prom, or get ready for a sermon like me to preach on Sunday,
- 7:48for Father's Day, people matter.
- 7:51And when we treat people with kindness, respect, dignity, everyone wins.
- 7:58And that's where I will leave you today. At this point, we're going to do a
- 8:01prayer. So if you are a person that believes in prayer, we're going to continue
- 8:05on here with a formal ending.
- 8:07Don't want to offend anyone, but as you know, have faith, let it begin.
- 8:10Believes that a day without prayer is a day without power. Heavenly Father,
- 8:13thank you for people who serve others with excellence.
- 8:16Thank you for the individuals who go above and beyond to make someone's day a little bit better.
- 8:22Help us to be people who encourage others, lift others, and treat everyone we
- 8:27meet with kindness and respect.
- 8:30May we always remember that every interaction is an opportunity to reflect your
- 8:34love, and we pray this in Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
- 8:38So, with God's blessing, mine to yours, never forget that God loves you,
- 8:43God believes in you, God will never leave your side.
- 8:47My name is Angel Santana. Hope you're going to check us out on Sunday.
- 8:50And until next time, if you go into Men's Warehouse, tell them.
- 8:56Have faith, let it begin, sent you.
- 8:58And I want to be serviced by the staff of Dante.
- 9:02And never forget, have faith, let it begin. Have a great weekend.
- 9:06Happy Father's Day to all fathers, all coaches, pastors, and everyone that has
- 9:11raised people and never, ever walked away.
