- 0:58Now, here are the host of The United, We scan podcast, Welcome
- 1:05back, everybody to episode 23, Kristen is in the transit right
- 1:12now, so she's unable to start this off.
- 1:16I'm starting it off for her and before we get started on this
- 1:20episode, I wanted to put out a little information for
- 1:23everybody. Due to recent incidents that
- 1:27have occurred, we're letting everybody know that at any time,
- 1:32you feel stressed out, worried have personal issues at home or
- 1:38anything of that matter. You can use the Postal Service
- 1:43EAP. It's free to use.
- 1:46It's confidential. They don't report this stuff
- 1:49back to your post master and it's somebody you can talk to
- 1:54about it. It.
- 1:56The other option is you have the Suicide Prevention, Hotline.
- 2:02Through sport code 98. You can dial it on your phone.
- 2:08You can also text that number if you need help, Reach Out.
- 2:14They are there 24/7 available for anybody.
- 2:19On top of that, if you are working with somebody, check in
- 2:22on them, check on your co-workers past and present for
- 2:27Carrier, moved on to another office and you still have
- 2:30contact with them. Check in on them.
- 2:33Make sure your care other fellow carriers are doing okay out
- 2:35there because we're in a stressful time we're going
- 2:39through a stressful situation and sometimes we just need
- 2:42somebody to talk to the Reach Out.
- 2:45Be that person for them to talk to We're All in This Together.
- 2:49And there are resources that you can use for that.
- 2:53Thank you. So Josh now that we've passed
- 3:00that sad note, how was your week?
- 3:03My week was not too bad. Still waiting for the new car to
- 3:10come in. Luckily, or unluckily, I have
- 3:15used my buddy spare vehicle, which is his right hand drive
- 3:19jeep. So, at least I'm not to bring to
- 3:24work everyday and couple them. What you said, you know, the
- 3:30summer way you open your show this evening, Every week when we
- 3:35close, I say. Don't get overwhelmed.
- 3:39If you do take a step back, take a breath and step back in there,
- 3:44which includes reaching out, if you feel, if you need to talk to
- 3:48someone, find someone to talk to friend, family member, close
- 3:55coworker. Just someone Get that weight off
- 4:00your chest, hopefully everyone will have a good week.
- 4:04Mike, how you doing today in this week?
- 4:08This week's been okay, just kind of a normal week this week
- 4:13trying to try to get through just like everybody else.
- 4:18No big UPS or Downs. Just just just a week.
- 4:24I understand, you know, well, looking forward to another
- 4:31wonderful week in a stressful environment stress-related
- 4:36environment. With unqualified management who
- 4:41works under the dictates of District who doesn't work within
- 4:45the confines of the contract. So just a normal week in
- 4:52relation to your PSA there, it's it gotta remember people, you
- 4:59don't know what's going on in other people's lives, most
- 5:02people at work are co-workers, their.
- 5:05Yeah. Well sometimes you're lucky
- 5:06enough. Help you develop friendships
- 5:08there, watch for the signs watch, you know, for, you know,
- 5:12people with drawing. But for people getting
- 5:15belligerent, you know, pay attention to what's going on at
- 5:18work and reach out to people even if you don't like them, you
- 5:23know, that there's still a life, you know, they're a human being
- 5:26and you should be concerned about them.
- 5:29And you know, we can't afford to lose the carrier and these
- 5:34children could not afford to lose her mother and it's it just
- 5:38it just rips me to hear this that, you know, now these
- 5:43children are going to wonder why mommy left them and you don't
- 5:48know what's going on in people's minds.
- 5:50So reach out to people, look for signs of, you know, he's a
- 5:55belligerent or withdrawal and And you know, even if you just
- 6:00start a small conversation about nothing, you can get a feel for
- 6:06the situation, you know, that they're experiencing at the
- 6:10moment and then you can ask them, you know, is there
- 6:13something bother you, can I help you reach out to people?
- 6:18I hate to feel life. Just, you know, like that.
- 6:23I just I really admire those me because I've seen several people
- 6:27go through that and whereas I don't understand it, it's
- 6:33accommodate occurrence anymore. And especially with the
- 6:37situation we have at the post office white.
- 6:41People's incomes are fluctuating I can see a lot of this coming
- 6:46down the pike. So we wanted to come on this
- 6:50week, discuss all the rumors that we've seen circulating on
- 6:56Facebook coming from management. Coming from fellow carriers
- 7:00coming from all over the place. Again, these are our opinions.
- 7:05You should contact your designated local union
- 7:08representative for guidance on this stuff, but this is how we
- 7:12feel this stuff. It should be.
- 7:14So make sure you reach out and actually have a discussion with
- 7:18your designated union rep over this stuff.
- 7:21The first one I'm going to go over with you guys and we'll
- 7:24rotate through is does doing load truck during loading time.
- 7:31Increase your evaluation load truck is an optional item for
- 7:39rural carriers, under evaluated hours. if your hourly management
- 7:46can make you, use load truck, that is an agreement that the
- 7:50post office in the union made a long time ago, but If you're
- 7:56doing low truck to increase your evaluation and it doesn't put
- 8:02you up to that next hour are working for free.
- 8:06You're doing more work for free. If it increases you too Ed next
- 8:10hour, you're still doing more work just to get to that next
- 8:14hour. So, as we say, carrier
- 8:18discretion, but I see it as more work for no gain in a sense.
- 8:27What do you guys think odd part? I think that I agree with you on
- 8:35that, but I would say if you're local management, Is telling you
- 8:42you are required to do it. I would do it during that load
- 8:47vehicle time. If you're opting to do it on
- 8:50your own, I would not recommend doing it under the load vehicle
- 8:54time and the reason I say that is if they're telling you, you
- 8:57have to You might as well get the credit.
- 9:02They're telling you you credit for it or telling you you have
- 9:05to do that off that function if you're doing it just because you
- 9:10prefer to do it in that way, you can just get the sequence and
- 9:13wind them up easier. I would do it.
- 9:17When you first grab your Gurney and start sorting your Carson
- 9:20can sorting out your parcels and not where you're actually
- 9:22loading your vehicle. Yeah, because there aren't only
- 9:26if you're loading them straight into the well, it's not if
- 9:29you're scanning them, putting numbers on them and putting them
- 9:33in order, right? If you pick it up, scan it,
- 9:37tosses the truck, pick it up, pick next time up, skin, it
- 9:40costing the truck that's one thing, but if you're sitting
- 9:44there, okay, that's number 3. 75 Loop, that's 223, and you're
- 9:50using the marker and write in that on the, on the label
- 9:54somewhere. I wouldn't do it during the your
- 9:57load vehicle and I find it especially confusing for a
- 10:02regular carrier to do that. I mean they ought to know the
- 10:05route by heart. So it's a waste of time in like
- 10:09you said, there's no gain to it unless you're tripping into the
- 10:13next hour and even then you're on the evaluated basis.
- 10:17You want to get out of there ASAP.
- 10:20Because the sooner you're on your route, the better your mood
- 10:23changes, all right? And so we want to get the next
- 10:27one. PM casing for mapping, huh?
- 10:32It all really don't do it. If you're going to do mapping,
- 10:37it should be your end of shift duties p.m. casing stops the
- 10:41clock for that day. If you're going to do the
- 10:44mapping, make sure it's on your end of shift duties.
- 10:48Get the credit for it, period. And the chef is the under return
- 10:54to D. You only time after return to do
- 10:59you before you hit p.m. casing or clock out.
- 11:03That's right. And mapping should be an
- 11:06indication of Duty, and we'll go over that later.
- 11:10What mapping is what, what they can do for mapping.
- 11:14Overall, that's another question later on.
- 11:17So, over that later, the next thing on the list was clocking
- 11:21out. Out and wicking.
- 11:23So long of returning, it takes as long as it takes.
- 11:28Some days I can be done in five minutes, I'm days, it takes me
- 11:3115, my case neighbor. She has a pickup of you off.
- 11:38She has three or four pickups which are each one of them.
- 11:44The smallest is 50 some pieces and go around like Father's Day
- 11:50and Christmas because the one is a goth memorabilia place.
- 11:55Could be a couple hundred to three hundred inches that she
- 12:00has to unload out of her truck. Which means she's getting a
- 12:03either a gaylord or a cage. Rolling it out to her truck,
- 12:09unloading all that stuff. Rolling that gaylord or, you
- 12:13know, we'd a hand truck or Decay for the back area near the dock
- 12:18where the outgoing mail is, and then coming back and unloading
- 12:25all the rest of us to helping them clean, doing her, clean up.
- 12:29so, for her to have Thirty minutes.
- 12:34The end of the day is not unheard of because of everything
- 12:37that she has to get out of her truck and clean up, you know,
- 12:43like we've mentioned in a few episodes in the p 0 6 and 3.
- 12:47It says, with the NFC chip Beauties are there are multiple
- 12:54wires that people have made up going around Facebook on the
- 13:00Union's website and our lcap A, a DOT org, under the Rex guide,
- 13:05you can find what the list of end of should do.
- 13:08These are the be included. There was a, there was a pretty
- 13:12extensive list in the, this month's National magazine as
- 13:16well. Okay, I don't think I'm not sure
- 13:19if I've gotten that yet, if I did, I haven't had a moment to
- 13:22whatever but that's, but that's also very available on the
- 13:27website for under the magazine. Yes, yeah.
- 13:30Yeah. I'll re re these A real quick
- 13:33for you. Friendship duties, you have
- 13:36obtaining a conveyance using the restroom depositing collection
- 13:40mail and designated locations. Depositing business, reply,
- 13:44male, updating your edit books, replenishing stamp stock
- 13:48replacing undelivered Parcels in the designated location.
- 13:52The DPM and LTM maintenance, closeout duties.
- 13:57If required replenishing rule, Reach customer, brochures
- 14:01discussions with management, Aunt, updating case labels
- 14:04returning keys and accountable mail, completing the PS form
- 14:083821, which your clearance flip completing the PS4 M35 752,
- 14:14which is a change of address of required completing the PS4 &
- 14:1839. 71 request for leave Emily money order transaction.
- 14:23And the undeliverable mail returning, the conveyance to the
- 14:26desired location and preparing hold mail for redelivery that's
- 14:31the entire list. It's on our website under our
- 14:34current magazine, as well as being in our current magazine
- 14:41and that is quotable from the union that you can use with
- 14:45management. So if you have a magazine or you
- 14:50have a carrier, that's a dues-paying member that gets the
- 14:54magazine, you can ask them for a copy of it.
- 14:57I'm sure they'll be willing to give it to you.
- 15:00If not, you can always join the union to, to get your copy of
- 15:05it. If you need to, that's another
- 15:07option you can do, make sure that you're doing all of these
- 15:10duties on your industry shift, because that helps your
- 15:13evaluation and to shift time is that return to the you time?
- 15:18It gives you more minutes overtime.
- 15:20Every minute you're on. That is a minute on your
- 15:23evaluation average. And I guess the other the other
- 15:26thing too is, if management is telling you, there is some sort
- 15:29of limit ask for that policy in writing ever since this came
- 15:33out. The union has been consistent.
- 15:37Is that your Endo shift time from the from the time you hit
- 15:41return to delivery unit? It is it takes What It Takes.
- 15:45If it, you're going to have some days that it's that you're going
- 15:48to be in and out, and you're going to have some days where
- 15:52now, this the day I got to replace my case labels.
- 15:55This is the day. I'm going to do my edit book,
- 15:57you know. Don't let don't let management
- 16:01bully. You coerce, you influence, you,
- 16:05whatever term you want to use to say that.
- 16:08No, you have to be out in a set number of a set time where you
- 16:14have a limit and if they are telling you I'm telling I'm
- 16:18giving you a direct order to be out of here in five minutes.
- 16:22Tell them I would like that direct order in writing.
- 16:25Please round dated and signed and the When I want it brown,
- 16:29dated, and signed is so that way we both have it for our records
- 16:34and nobody can say, well, I didn't tell him that or I didn't
- 16:39hear you. Something that is for both sides
- 16:43have positive verification that this was a direct order.
- 16:47You're not trying to get out away with something or anything
- 16:52like that, but it is a physical copy that you can then take to
- 16:56your designated Union. Representative and explain.
- 17:00Hey my postmaster, gave me a direct order.
- 17:03Here's a signed copy from my postmaster telling me to do so.
- 17:09And it solves your problems a lot easier.
- 17:10That way, honestly, confront 8191, what are you waiting for
- 17:24them? To hand it to you, then you ask
- 17:25for the 8191, that's insane. Once they handed me, I'd ask for
- 17:28an 8191. Yep, that's a grievance form.
- 17:32What we went over a few episodes back.
- 17:35Okay guys, I'm gonna pop in for a moment.
- 17:37Don't walk away. Yeah, well, I had to stop my
- 17:43daughter. Had to go get a phone charger
- 17:45since hers is still in my Jeep. Just everybody wondering where I
- 17:49am at tonight. I had to make a impromptu drive
- 17:53across the state to pick up my daughter since there was a
- 17:58slight accident with my car, involving two deer this morning
- 18:01that deployed the airbags in my Jeep.
- 18:05And I will know tomorrow when the adjuster gets out there, I'm
- 18:10pretty sure I'm going to be shopping for a new car, which is
- 18:12natural what I wanted to do right now.
- 18:22Yeah, my poor Jeep. So so uh I just kind of wanted
- 18:32to touch on the huh, what was that?
- 18:36I will say when you hear back from the adjuster what them.
- 18:39Let him know that you just location.
- 18:42You were not able to get into the vehicle to collect your
- 18:46stuff and you probably will not be able to get there.
- 18:51What a reasons can they make before they take possession and
- 18:55tow it away? Well yeah, definitely and I'm
- 18:58going to tell the code. A company that to that has my
- 19:01vehicle? But so yeah, I have a few
- 19:07moments before I lose signal again, so I'm kind of going to
- 19:10be popping in and out tonight. Listening like I can.
- 19:14So that's what's going on with me.
- 19:18I just wanted to touch on the beginning because I caught the
- 19:21James part was the with the EAP. That is also available for
- 19:25anybody in your household that lives with you.
- 19:29Free of charge as well. So if there are issues that
- 19:33somebody in your household, It sees that you can reach out and
- 19:35use it for your household members as well.
- 19:39Yeah, my wife has it on speed dial.
- 19:42Oh, I'm sure he does. All right, and then down on
- 19:48that. Also we have management turning
- 19:51around and telling people that they only have so many hours in
- 19:54the office before they have to leave.
- 19:57If the same thing, it takes What It Takes.
- 20:01We are not sitting carriers, we don't get two hours in the
- 20:05morning in the office, then we have to leave for the route.
- 20:08We also have the opt into case are DPS, although with the
- 20:12evaluator system we don't get compensation for casing DPS
- 20:16unless it's under 400 letters a day then you get the off to the
- 20:21case it. So if management is pushing you
- 20:24to get out the door telling you it's a direct order again, get
- 20:28it in writing, same situation. You know, it's funny that I find
- 20:33that, you know, my routes now up at 64 hours a week and they're
- 20:38giving me 3 hours and 47 minutes to Case and then they give me
- 20:44six and a half hours to delivery, which is approximately
- 20:48two hours more than I need to deliver it.
- 20:50Because when I'm done casing, I'm a more efficient on the
- 20:53street, the less time, I'm on the street, the less likelihood,
- 20:57I'm going to have an accident less time on the street.
- 21:00The less. And we're and Terror.
- 21:02I'm accruing on the vehicle. So where are you making you
- 21:09these decisions? Based on what facts?
- 21:11I mean, I've never understood that one.
- 21:15And yeah, that'll go back to the next thing about stopping at
- 21:19mailboxes every three and five seconds because when I drive up
- 21:23to the mailbox, I mean I do it in 2.8 seconds.
- 21:27You know, my mails and the hand I slap the lid down mail goes in
- 21:30Lids up. I pull away.
- 21:33I mean yeah. But we can talk about that a
- 21:36little bit here. Yeah.
- 21:38And like you just said you know, and the people that have under
- 21:42400 pieces of mail should be casing it in the office.
- 21:47You're paid to actually case it in the office for the 400
- 21:50letters and a lot of people who get less than 400 letters, don't
- 21:54even have DPS, they actually get the sector segment version of it
- 21:59instead so they have to case it. So, Again, carrier discretion,
- 22:05and whether you want to take DPS to the street or not management.
- 22:09Now, this is going to be the caveat with these new Rex
- 22:12evaluations. Everybody says that's severely
- 22:16under evaluated, is going to be constantly over their evaluation
- 22:21and that's one of the requirements for making
- 22:24carriers, take DPS to the street, the other one is if your
- 22:28hourly again. So but It's however you wish to
- 22:36do it unless management forces you and again get it in writing
- 22:40and talk with your designated union rep.
- 22:44Round stamp it. Are really outstanding document
- 22:49document, you know, next one was stopping at every mailbox for 3
- 22:54to 5 Seconds. So the biggest rumor that's been
- 22:58going around, a lot of people have been talking about is
- 23:00management telling them to stop and every mailbox for three to
- 23:04five seconds to get the bread crumb for stopping at that
- 23:07mailbox. If you don't have anything for
- 23:10the mailbox, the PO 603 says, you can skip the mailbox at the
- 23:13flag is not up management, telling you to do a stop.
- 23:17Every three to five seconds. You definitely want to get that
- 23:21in writing because not only, can your postmaster come out on that
- 23:24route and inspect you Postal inspectors management from other
- 23:29offices district managers National managers regional
- 23:34managers who don't train their management to do, the rec
- 23:37systems can come out and inspect you on your route.
- 23:41So you want that in writing that your manager told you to stop at
- 23:45every mailbox, otherwise you could get in possibly get in
- 23:49trouble for that. I've got a question in regards
- 23:52to that because that that leads to another conundrum.
- 23:56In regards to, I don't get credit for the stopping at that
- 24:00mailbox because the DPS didn't have any mail for that mailbox.
- 24:05I didn't have a box holder that day, so, People are asking if I
- 24:12don't have mail for that mailbox.
- 24:15Then does that tell them somewhere in the wreck system
- 24:19that I'm falsely stopping at that mailbox?
- 24:23It's a question further down. Excellently.
- 24:25Yeah, but but, you know the food for thought, you know?
- 24:31Yeah, yeah. What's or letters from the hot
- 24:44cakes or fried rat or they have Alcoa email if you stopped at a
- 24:53small percentage of boxes, other than the inform delivery shows
- 24:58the receipt. Yes, for it's a no harm.
- 25:02No foul. If you're stopping every single
- 25:04box, every single day it's going to throw red flag up.
- 25:10At some point. At some point, somebody's going
- 25:14to say something. but with with all the flaws, we have with this
- 25:19system and the scanners kind of, we know what is and what isn't
- 25:24being credited? That, that's where the
- 25:27transparency issue is, critical in regards to the true
- 25:32valuations of this program. I mean, there's there's more
- 25:36questions than there are answers.
- 25:38And the answers were getting are conflicting with each other
- 25:42based on District. Drad, our rule carrier
- 25:47specialist management. There's there's so many Cooked
- 25:52in the kitchen that I can't go to get a good cherry pie with
- 25:57any cherries in it. Right?
- 26:00And you know, like I said in the past I've heard supposably that
- 26:07If you're at a walking pace, when you pass the Box, it'll hit
- 26:12the brake drum. But then you see other sources,
- 26:17say that 3 to 5 Seconds. So no one has been able to
- 26:24definitively say one way or another one that actually gives
- 26:29away. Yeah.
- 26:33And that's that's the key is everybody's getting different
- 26:35information from different people, you know, and you're
- 26:38getting different information even from us, you know, then
- 26:41what somebody else will say, you know, you'll leave, we've upset
- 26:46a lot of people by having this podcast told you about the fan
- 26:49mail previous episode, we had, you know, we have set people
- 26:53about it, but the key to us doing this is to get you to go.
- 26:58Talk to your designated union, rep and get the answers.
- 27:02Straight from your union rep. Who gets it from their District
- 27:07rep, who gets it from the national rep. that's what we
- 27:13want you to do, and and even then I want them to show me in
- 27:17writing, yes, everything should be in writing If it's not in
- 27:22writing, I don't believe you. Oh, and we don't post anything
- 27:29in writing and writing. We just talked about it.
- 27:33Yes. This is funny because I sit
- 27:44there and say, okay, folks, do you understand the evaluated
- 27:47system? And apparently they don't, it's
- 27:51not baseball your daily hours. It's based on your average hours
- 27:59for the week based on your routes evaluation Mondays in my
- 28:03office or a bear. I'm putting yo nine and a half
- 28:07ten hours in there every Monday because for some reason the plan
- 28:11can generate Truck load of mail for us on Mondays and then the
- 28:15Peters out through the week. So by the time I get to Thursday
- 28:19or Friday in the, even with the marriage mail or box holders or
- 28:22whatever you call them for your local, you know, supermarkets,
- 28:26I'm back down to 88 and a half, eight, and three-quarters of
- 28:29our. So it's the average.
- 28:32So if you're getting paid as in my case, I'm getting a 48k and
- 28:38I'm getting paid for 9 hours and I'm getting done under nine
- 28:41hours. That's the average and that goes
- 28:45into whether or not you're going to, you do your seven and a half
- 28:49or I do my eight point, nine hours or nine point six hours.
- 28:53It's an average over the course of the week based on the routes
- 28:56evaluation. Now if you going to ask this
- 29:00question, are you also going to stick around for an hour and a
- 29:05half when you're done in six hours?
- 29:08Yep. Are you doing?
- 29:09You know if you work seven point one, five hours.
- 29:13Are you going to stick around for the extra 15 minutes?
- 29:16Because that's what you're paying you for.
- 29:19Yeah. And then there's the other
- 29:23aspect of this too. If you're only working seven and
- 29:26a half hours a day, how do you expect your evaluation to go up?
- 29:30Yeah. You want to work seven and a
- 29:34half hours because you're paid seven and a half hours, then
- 29:37you're never going to see eight hours is an evaluation.
- 29:40Yep. Especially if you're really
- 29:44short, cutting yourself on your end to shift duties?
- 29:47Yeah. Yeah.
- 29:49The other thing is, when I first started seeing these post coming
- 29:52up that when people were talking about their cuts and saying well
- 29:57I'm only going to work, you know, I was as a 45k, you know,
- 30:019 h, 9 hours, a day. Now I'm only getting seven and a
- 30:04half. Well, I'm not going to work past
- 30:06that it's like so there's you're not going to serve part of your
- 30:11route. You're going to take it out on
- 30:13your customers. That you're cut, you're going to
- 30:17take that out on your customers and you're going to deny them
- 30:20service, because of you, because of your loss of evaluation,
- 30:24we're still, you still have people relying on you.
- 30:27You know what, if those people on the end of end of your router
- 30:30waiting for the medication that you have, that you're taken back
- 30:33to the, that your quote, taking back to the office because
- 30:36you're not going to work over over seven and a half hours or
- 30:40you know there's there are still people who male importantly.
- 30:45Payments through the Postal Service.
- 30:48Believe it or not, they don't all email them or or that.
- 30:52So you're denying your customer service and that it could just
- 30:57be my it could just be my age showing that that just that just
- 31:01really rubs me the wrong way. And that just really does it
- 31:05really puts the post office in a bad light.
- 31:09We're looking at like that think about this part documents, it
- 31:13takes two to three days for it to get to you at minimum.
- 31:17Yeah. And when it gets to you and you
- 31:20deliver it the certify for them, they have 28 days to respond to
- 31:27that and you're eating away at those days, by not delivering it
- 31:31to them, I would say the other thing I want to touch base on
- 31:34with the southern a hat. You know, schedule.
- 31:38Seven-and-a-half, I work seven and a half.
- 31:41Yeah, well to kind of touch base on what Bill was saying or if
- 31:46you get done in 6 hours, Are you going to sit back?
- 31:50You know what do you do for that out?
- 31:52You know for that hour and a half you going to hang out.
- 31:55I'm going to jump ahead to the last thing in the list of going
- 31:58hourly like City. if you're if we go Aero like City and you get
- 32:04done, you're out in 6 hours Gasps why they're they're going
- 32:10to want to they're going to want you to work for those other two
- 32:12hours to make up your eight hour day?
- 32:17Yep. Yeah the other carrier that has
- 32:20seven hours. 11 hours has nine hours on his route, guess what?
- 32:24Now you're going to get two hours off of him to go deliver
- 32:26his route that you've never done before.
- 32:29Yes. People keep saying why I think
- 32:34we should just go our like, the city personally.
- 32:39I wouldn't want it. Yeah, it sucks.
- 32:42If I'm an eight-hour valuation, it takes me 10.
- 32:45Today, I'm only getting paid eight foot by the end of the
- 32:49week when it's only taken me. Six It balances out.
- 32:55That's it you know and I'm still getting to go home early again.
- 32:58Yeah. And then you know it reflect it
- 33:01fluctuates you know, Season to season you know we're coming at
- 33:03work, we're coming in and when school lets out, you know, June
- 33:09July, you know, that's traditionally our slope here is
- 33:13traditionally a slow period for male anyway, so you're going to
- 33:17you're not going to you're not going to have a lot to deliver.
- 33:21And then, you know, it starts, it starts ramping up its at, you
- 33:25know, the end of the summer up until we get to the Christmas
- 33:28Peak. So, you know, in, you know, we
- 33:33Josh hit on it, you know, just go hourly.
- 33:36There's there's more to it than that, you know, City Terriers if
- 33:40they if they're if they're done and they haven't made their
- 33:43eight hours, they have to go help or they have to take leave.
- 33:47Yep. Worked around the office or
- 33:51Yeah. And, you know, right now this is
- 33:54nothing against our city carrier Brethren.
- 33:56Nope, it's not. It's not we support.
- 33:58We support their contractors as much as we support ours.
- 34:02They have a great great contract with they work with.
- 34:04We have a great contract that we work with and many aspects.
- 34:08So this is nothing against their City brother.
- 34:10And it's, yeah, it's a totally different Beast to be a city
- 34:14carrier than it is to be a rural carrier.
- 34:18Still the same stuff, just different Beast of how you, how
- 34:21you handle it. Yeah, Integrity scans no scans
- 34:25allowed in the office that this this one, this one gets my goat
- 34:32but I can count on one hand. I could The Economist in me on
- 34:37the one hand. I can see why they're doing it.
- 34:39You know. They're trying to get at
- 34:42carriers who are actually falsifying stuff and saying no,
- 34:46you have to, you shouldn't be scanning.
- 34:48When you're back from the route. But the other thing is at least
- 34:52in our district. It's there's three o'clock
- 34:54window if you get back and it's it's 259 and you make that scan
- 34:59in the office, it's okay. But if it's 301 and you make
- 35:04that scan in the office, then you, then you end up on a
- 35:08report. So that that's the one part of
- 35:11that. And then the other thing, well,
- 35:13you have to take it out of the, you know, after 3:00, if you're
- 35:16going to, you know, you A parcel, you know, parcel slid
- 35:20under your tray, it got buried under something.
- 35:23And well, you know, are you going to take it out and deliver
- 35:27it or you or you're going to make some scan on it?
- 35:29You take it out of the office and do it on the street, you
- 35:33know, that it just it just bugs me on some unjust.
- 35:36Some deep level, I can only speak for my station.
- 35:40Even though my office is as large as it is even station the
- 35:45station they had. You know there's Different
- 35:48quote, unquote rules of what, you know, my ex I should say,
- 35:53expectations from management, at least in my station in the
- 35:57morning. If I know it's on hold or it's
- 36:02is a or whatever. The reason is that I wouldn't
- 36:07take, you know, wouldn't be delivering it.
- 36:10I can scan it before I leave, they don't want me to bring
- 36:14anything back in the afternoon. They want me to explain it as if
- 36:17I bought it. With me in the truck, they want
- 36:20me to scan it at the location on the reason why I'm not
- 36:24delivering it. Which I can understand, you
- 36:27know, which I can understand that.
- 36:31I would suggest getting with your local management and local
- 36:35representative to find out and hatch out.
- 36:41What is the best and appropriate action.
- 36:47For this if they you come back and there's packages and they
- 36:52tell you you need to take it for a ride and and scan it off the
- 36:57premises that in writing one, get it in writing to make sure
- 37:03you let your recommend of know. This is, this is the procedure
- 37:07that your local management is giving you so they can tell you.
- 37:12Yeah, unfortunately that's it. We're no wait, let's, you know,
- 37:16we need to put a stop to that. That but I would definitely say
- 37:22put that back into your local management and representatives
- 37:26court so they can work it. You know, between amongst each
- 37:29other them, they can work out. A reasonable solution, is this
- 37:35happening on both ends? Because in my office I mean I do
- 37:39this all the time I I scan my holds my forwards, my, you know,
- 37:44my Return to Sender, for whatever reason I do Those all
- 37:48in the morning if I pull it if I pull them out of my cage and
- 37:52it's oh my God, you know, these people move two months ago and
- 37:56they're still getting their bark boxes sent here and put them in
- 37:59forwarding. I do that at the office.
- 38:01If I, if I if I catch it, catch it in the office.
- 38:05I do that, I do that. Also, if I knew, if it's
- 38:08something that I know, is not going to be delivered for
- 38:11whatever reason that day, whether it be hold forward in.
- 38:17Rita dress. No such number whatever the
- 38:21reasoning is ice. You know, I scan them all in the
- 38:24morning. But every now and then like from
- 38:27my apartment I may not catch because the way I sort, I just
- 38:30sort, I see it's the apartment psycho it in a bit, you know, in
- 38:33a tub. And then when I get out there,
- 38:36action short film editor, so I might not see that.
- 38:38It was an incomplete and Brett, you know, coach didn't have the
- 38:42proper apartment number or it was an integrated partment.
- 38:45I'm going till I get there, so let's get them all.
- 38:47They're if I took it with me and I'm going to say that I've seen
- 38:52it in my office where a carrier missed a package.
- 38:57They're like, well, I delivered it.
- 38:59Well, go next door. Punch this number in and put
- 39:02where you delivered. It is that an Integrity is that
- 39:06keeping Integrity, you know, the other side of that is go back
- 39:09out to the house. See if you can get the package
- 39:11and scan it at the house. Are you paying me for that?
- 39:15Integrity is what What you make it, if you want to be accurate
- 39:22and have integrity in your scans, you got to do it the
- 39:26right way. And the only way you can do it
- 39:30right with management trying to coach you to kind of falsify a
- 39:34scan. Is to talk to your designated
- 39:38union. Rep about it because falsifying
- 39:41a scan is falsifying a government document gone over
- 39:45this before in another episode. So, you want to cover your
- 39:50backside when you're doing this stuff.
- 39:54Here's the mapping in him. Yep.
- 39:58We're such end of fifth. All right.
- 40:01Mappy, as we mentioned earlier, it should be done as an industry
- 40:08Beauty and the return to you, if for, whatever reason management
- 40:13says, you have to do it in the morning, Because whatever reason
- 40:18there's no we're going to be here in the afternoon, it's too
- 40:24late. Today you already take too long,
- 40:26whatever their reason is that you can't or they won't sit down
- 40:32with you to map in the afternoon.
- 40:35That is 8127 time. I would also suggest reaching
- 40:39out to your local representative and say hey management is
- 40:45telling me that we have to do it in the morning, we can't do it
- 40:48in the afternoon when I get back.
- 40:50I'm going to check and see if they can come up with, you know,
- 40:54talk with management and get it corrected to interfere.
- 40:58But if they absolutely insist, but it has to be done in the
- 41:02morning, were you hit the street?
- 41:05That is 8127. Thomas is they say, hey jeans.
- 41:09Come on, let's go. Matt, we're going to knock her
- 41:11out. Start your stopwatch Until the
- 41:15moment you get back to your tastes to finish case in the
- 41:20pulling down or whatever about to do.
- 41:23Some people are saying, well, I'm just going to put it as low
- 41:26truck. No.
- 41:28Because that is loaded truck function.
- 41:31Exactly. That it is just with our meeting
- 41:35room to move the conveying fully mobile to advance.
- 41:39One more taste to your truck. Empty the contents into your
- 41:43truck. Go and bring the conveyance back
- 41:46to where it belongs, where there have been to set it back up from
- 41:49the next morning or if they have a staging area that you're
- 41:52allowed to put it or in the afternoon when you get back.
- 41:56So you just grab it and unload your vehicle.
- 42:00Put it it that boat truck functions is exactly that it's
- 42:05the time. It takes you to load your
- 42:07vehicle. Nothing else.
- 42:11Anyone on the other, anything say about that.
- 42:13Yeah, make sure you notate the time on your 4240 also.
- 42:19Because when it comes crunch time and your paycheck shows up,
- 42:23and they didn't input the 8127 time, having it on your 50.
- 42:28Your 4240 is your one way of having documentation that is
- 42:32occurred, and if you want, you can put in the time you left
- 42:35your case to the time, you got back to your case on there as
- 42:38well. It's another option you can do
- 42:40instead of starting a stopwatch but make sure you notate this
- 42:45time mapping great on the, on the comments of your for, Be
- 42:49240. That's going to say because when
- 42:51we did when we were just kind of say it just makes sense because
- 42:59when we did the initial mapping and they figured it was going to
- 43:02take you all day to map your route.
- 43:04You got P times to that. So it just seems it just seems
- 43:09to make sense that if they're going to make you do it during
- 43:12the morning then it would only make sense that it's something
- 43:15outside of your normal evaluation.
- 43:17So it should be 8127 time. That just seems to make sense to
- 43:22me. The better would be to do it in
- 43:25a shift when it's just actual time.
- 43:27And at this point it should just be just adding adding things to
- 43:32your, to your route or just making small changes, it
- 43:35shouldn't be wholesale. At this point minutes on average
- 43:40probably 5 to 15 minutes. I mean honestly if there's no
- 43:45changes at all to your route, then you just start going in and
- 43:51verifying it. Nothing that the system didn't
- 43:54change anything. If you don't have to be boxes.
- 43:59Like I just deactivated a couple boxes that I've been baking for
- 44:05over 90 days. Yeah, and the city bought them
- 44:08out. And are demolishing them because
- 44:12flood zone. So, I need to make sure that,
- 44:16you know, I need to get in there map to make sure that I've said
- 44:19is inactive, I go one step further with this, with a
- 44:26calendar at the case, That you can put that time down on
- 44:31because my office, particularly finding a 42 43 days after it
- 44:38was completed is like the proverbial needle in the
- 44:43haystack. So if you have your calendar
- 44:47there, I mark it on that. I know people take pictures with
- 44:50their phones carried little note pads you know the little fold
- 44:54over spiral-bound note pads in their pocket and all whatever
- 44:58but documented somewhere else too.
- 45:00Okay? Because like I said if you have
- 45:02a problem you know getting the 4242 show that you actually
- 45:06worked it and your paycheck shows, no reflection of that
- 45:10effort then you have the backup proof in cap like Guy said,
- 45:14just, you know, it's like finding the Ark in the
- 45:18warehouse, right? Bill.
- 45:20Hey, you know, being the Tactical officer, you know, I
- 45:23don't leave anything to chance. Yep.
- 45:28Yeah, exactly. Since we talked just touched on
- 45:33that making boxes, inactive. Now, this is one thing that's
- 45:38been going on with the system lately is that it's actually
- 45:42marketing boxes and active that don't get DPS.
- 45:46That's a something that's been going on with the system and
- 45:50I've had a couple of them actually happen on mine too, so
- 45:54when you're going through your mapping, make sure you're
- 45:56checking for your inactive boxes because you want those active
- 46:00oxygen. This especially like I mine I
- 46:03have a couple of customers that all they get our third class
- 46:06mail, it still counts towards my evaluation to have that box
- 46:11active understand. They don't get a mail every
- 46:14single day but that's still mail volume for my route.
- 46:17When I input a box holder when I input WSS, things like that.
- 46:24And when they get that WSS Valpak in the DPS, it keeps the
- 46:29Box active. The only times that I've had
- 46:32that actually happen is boxes that only get the marriage mail
- 46:37and whatever, box holders I put in the system.
- 46:39But you want to make sure that they stay active unless they're
- 46:43vacant and then you have 90 days.
- 46:46The 90th Day is when you put a vacant in your edit book now
- 46:50before that because I had a house that's at vacant for 89
- 46:53days and somebody moved in on a 90th day I got there first
- 46:57electric bill So make sure you're keeping track of your
- 47:01vacants 90 days and if they're marking them as vacant, make
- 47:05sure you correct them know that box isn't vacant.
- 47:08You don't want to remove vacant boxes because you still get 1
- 47:13Point 2 minutes per box on your evaluation without any mail.
- 47:20You get 1 Point 2 minutes per box.
- 47:24Anybody else? Well, according to the old
- 47:27system and and it continues with the rec system, people use to
- 47:34manipulate their boxes, to drive up their volume, and then
- 47:42reintroduce them afterwards. Don't do this, your falsifying
- 47:49data, your falsifying, a government document, it will
- 47:54lead to termination. Nation.
- 47:56It's an old trick people have been caught before.
- 48:00People have lost their jobs over this.
- 48:02So don't do it. I have one address at my town
- 48:07houses, but, hey, I'd eat that. You can click to me that they
- 48:11haven't really gotten a little while this when I drove by, when
- 48:17I got to the Stevie you last week.
- 48:21The scanner popped up for the edit hook option asking is this
- 48:28address occupied so I hit yes, it is, you know, and kept on
- 48:34going. But if I, if that can pop up or
- 48:38if I kept ignoring it, or if I said, no, it's not occupied, the
- 48:42system might have perfect that too.
- 48:46Say that it's know. Walking of it's bacon.
- 48:51But I don't know. You'll have one size of the
- 48:53other with the fact that because they hadn't gotten the on a
- 48:57while it popped up in, you know, as the for the edit to ask, you
- 49:03know, in the edit book. If it was occupied, I turned
- 49:07around and looked across the street to the house.
- 49:09There's a car in the driveway, light wasn't on sale in the
- 49:13house. I'm like yes it's occupied
- 49:16certified in DPS. A lot of people have noticed
- 49:19that they're getting defied in the DPS.
- 49:23This is the new thing. They don't have enough employees
- 49:26in the plants to separate the certified from the first class
- 49:29mail. So they're treating them all is
- 49:31first class mail and putting them in the DPS now.
- 49:34Unfortunately that makes more work for us as carrier because
- 49:38now not only do we have to verify the addresses, we have to
- 49:41make sure that there's not a certified hiding in there and
- 49:44it's going to happen. You're going to end up,
- 49:46delivering a certified into the mailbox because in DPS and you
- 49:49don't even know it's there. Keep your eye out for it.
- 49:53Knock your fault, that they're putting it in the DPS, but you
- 49:58want to verify that? It's not there because you're
- 50:01the last line of defense to prevent the certified from
- 50:04failing and a certifies. It's not failed.
- 50:08We have to refund their money that and credit egoism
- 50:12accountable, which means that a you know, you're going to get
- 50:16the time for the skin and for obtaining the second circuit And
- 50:21you'll get the credit for it, from receiving it, from the
- 50:24clerk, even though you didn't receive it from the clerk
- 50:27because it only registers on your Rex.
- 50:31If you scan it in the field, whether you scan it delivered or
- 50:36attempted with the 3849. Yep.
- 50:41You get the credits for it and then if you go back out and
- 50:44deliver it again, you get the credits again.
- 50:47So make sure you're looking for them because that's good money
- 50:50on your account. And for those that have informed
- 50:56delivery certifies do so up in the informed delivery under
- 51:01certified in with a picture I've had a few of them that have come
- 51:07in to my household and they will.
- 51:09It also up certified in the tracking number for the
- 51:13certified piece of mail in my informed delivery.
- 51:16So They are still tracked, they're just not getting an
- 51:20arrival at units stand by the clerks, and they're coming in
- 51:23the DPS, so just definitely make.
- 51:25Spare your look out for those. Especially the ones that are
- 51:29built into the document there on the envelope and you may not see
- 51:34that it certified left to look at that envelope window.
- 51:39Look, the birds aren't doing their job at the plant.
- 51:43You don't have enough clerks in your office to hand them out and
- 51:45have her, but he signed formed making the Maze and the cowboy
- 51:49does not make you lacks in regards to doing your job.
- 51:55You get a certified. You see the certified delivered,
- 51:58a certified customer paid for the service.
- 52:02Give them the service, get the credit, do your job the right
- 52:06way. Second trips.
- 52:09As far as I know second trips are there's there's really no
- 52:12choice other than the wrecked procedures.
- 52:15Second trips are not changed, the Rex procedure for second.
- 52:20Trips is a you returned to you when you get back to the office
- 52:23and you were do the return to delivery unit.
- 52:27You, then do all of your end of shift duties, dispatch the mail,
- 52:32take care of your markups, your forwards, your boob, um, put
- 52:36stuff away and then if you're going back out on a second trip,
- 52:40Then you hit p.m. casing and then you do start, load and
- 52:45unload. I mean if it's just hey this
- 52:48Express came in after you left you know you hit start load walk
- 52:53out to your truck with it, you walk in you get in your truck
- 52:55with it, you hit end load and then you go and deliver that
- 53:00what? However, many if it's just one
- 53:02express envelope, if it's a couple of parcels whatever it
- 53:05is. It's still load time.
- 53:08Plus 2 minutes per mile. But it's done on p.m. casing
- 53:14because that's second trips of always been outside of your
- 53:17evaluation. So this is delineating when your
- 53:21evaluation is stopping and it denotes the time that you went
- 53:25on that that you're, you know, ending are evaluated time and
- 53:29doing something else with the exception of the Christmas over
- 53:32time. Well for over three weeks.
- 53:34Yes, yes. But normally currently presently
- 53:39at this time. if you were, if I was to go a second trip
- 53:43tomorrow, that's how that's how you do it and that procedure is
- 53:48So it's been the the union has put it out in several places.
- 53:52That that is how you do second trips.
- 53:56And then of course, when you get back to when you get back to the
- 53:59delivery unit, that's when I because I have a I have an FF
- 54:02VII that's when I do my scan for the, for the the ending mileage.
- 54:08I come in, I grabbed my clipboard.
- 54:10I walk over to the supervisors desk and I do my clock out, and,
- 54:15you know, sign my 4240, and turn it in for the end of the day.
- 54:20Yeah, and it's called second trip for a reason.
- 54:24A lot of officers are telling you, it's a second trip in the
- 54:27morning. It is not the morning stuff.
- 54:30If you're delivering packages in the morning should be straight
- 54:34time. Plus EMA, if you're driving the
- 54:37POV, yeah, should be straight time in the morning.
- 54:40It is not a second trip, don't let them call it a second trip.
- 54:43And if they do, contact your local union, representative for
- 54:47guidance. Because second trips are
- 54:50supposed to occur after the first trip.
- 54:57For you and explain that to my management, they have the, they
- 55:03have trouble understanding the difference between first and
- 55:07second. The first being it comes first,
- 55:13the second being after the first, you can't have the second
- 55:18without doing the first. Is that what that's saying?
- 55:44All right. Stop.
- 55:45Picking on the, they're not here to defend themselves.
- 55:49Yeah. Yeah.
- 55:50We shouldn't. We shouldn't pick on them if
- 55:51they can't defend themselves and we'll be more than happy to
- 55:54discuss it with them. Oh yeah.
- 55:57It's much more fun face to face. Yes.
- 56:01We'd be happy to have a manager, come on this and chat with us
- 56:04about this. Hmm.
- 56:06Maybe even the regional manager. If you love to talk to him
- 56:11again, wouldn't you James? Yes, I would.
- 56:16All right, moving on. I thought the right entering
- 56:21authorized Dismounts for every dispatch out even one.
- 56:25Okay. And this, this changed a couple
- 56:28of times but if you have an authorized dismount on in, you
- 56:33know, in your edit book and you mapped it and you did it when
- 56:38you completed your mapping, whether it's a CV, you a school,
- 56:42a business, a hardship. When you, when you make that
- 56:46Dismount that that initial dismount Is is figured into your
- 56:52is figured into your reps is figured into your evaluation
- 56:55under Rex. If you have to make another trip
- 56:59to if it's a CB you and you have, you have too many, too
- 57:03many parcel, you can't handle all the parcels and all the mail
- 57:06and you need to do one and then the other and you have to make a
- 57:10trip back into your truck to complete your delivery.
- 57:14That is a second authorized Dismount.
- 57:17And then that's when you should do the Authorized Dismount and
- 57:21then the number of trips. It's the total number of trips.
- 57:26If it's too, you put, you know, our b 2 B, 3 R B3.
- 57:32If you only make one, if it only takes you one trip out of your
- 57:37truck to do your Dismount, then you don't enter anything.
- 57:43And we went round and round on this.
- 57:45When it first started, it was like know if you do you just do
- 57:50one because you just do the additional Dismount as like, no.
- 57:54You the firm answer now, is you do the total number of trips and
- 57:59then the system will take out the one.
- 58:04And now, the other thing of that is don't start making a bunch of
- 58:09crazy Dismounts. Like, if you, if you were, if
- 58:13you weren't doing anything before, you know, don't suddenly
- 58:16make 3des mounts at every CBU or every authorized Dismount, you
- 58:22know. That's actual Integrity.
- 58:26It's doing it, right? We went over this back in the
- 58:30activity, scans podcast, all the scans and all the information on
- 58:34the scans. According to the comprehensive
- 58:37guide and the quick reference guide that was put out by the
- 58:41union. We went over that paperwork back
- 58:44then in the Ocoee scan. So if you want to go back and
- 58:46listen to that again, great resource for you guys to get an
- 58:49idea and you can then talk with your designated union rep if you
- 58:53have Questions on it. Alright, the rural reach scan
- 59:00and the rural reach program. The rural reach program was
- 59:06designed for a way to increase business, customers for the post
- 59:12office, try and get people with homegrown businesses.
- 59:16People with small businesses to switch from Shipping with FedEx,
- 59:21UPS, DHL and all the rest of them over to the United States.
- 59:25Postal Service. Now, we used to get an automatic
- 59:29credit on every count for Rural reach, but now we don't.
- 59:37Now we have to actually reach out and talk with the customers
- 59:42and then input the credit. Now we've put out in the past
- 59:47that this rural reach scan is for anytime.
- 59:50You're dealing with customers to try and increase revenue for the
- 59:53Post Office and Management's. Now, coming back that you have
- 59:57to have a lead with it. So you can input the lead in the
- 1:00:03scanner. You can get real reach booklets
- 1:00:07or info cards from management. That's another way.
- 1:00:12But my personal opinion is you go out and you talk with a like
- 1:00:18the other day. I talked with a customer that
- 1:00:19just moved into the house about the services that we provide to
- 1:00:23them like stamps. Hold mail, things like that.
- 1:00:27That to me is a rural reach. Because I'm talking about
- 1:00:30services. That we provide, you know,
- 1:00:33management would say well that's not a rural reach because you're
- 1:00:36not offering to sell things. Well, I offered to sell stamps
- 1:00:39to them. Is that a real reach?
- 1:00:42I think carrier discretion should be advised on this.
- 1:00:46What do you guys think? Well, I think, I think
- 1:00:49management point of view is that if you actually if you actually
- 1:00:52are generating a they really wanted for lead generation that
- 1:00:57they're going to have their Whatever it's called sales
- 1:01:00specialist or whatever, contact them and see what they can do.
- 1:01:04So if you're going to do the rural reach activity, scan under
- 1:01:08our X, then you should follow it up with the rural reach lead.
- 1:01:13Generally generation in your scanner.
- 1:01:15I think it's option. You on the main screen, you're
- 1:01:19right. And you have to have and if
- 1:01:21you're going to do that, you need the full information
- 1:01:24because I took a flyer off. Somebody, it's stuck up on one
- 1:01:27of my CB use and all it had was Like a name and a phone number.
- 1:01:31You need to have an address. You need have a phone number a
- 1:01:34point of contact because they got it, they have to have a way
- 1:01:38to get a hold of them. So I mean if you don't have that
- 1:01:42take that fire into your manager. because then they can
- 1:01:46do the lead generation for you, which is that flyer So that's
- 1:01:52another way is still part of the rural reach.
- 1:01:54The difference is instead of you and putting it, you're putting
- 1:01:57it on management and put it then.
- 1:01:59If management doesn't input it, that's on them.
- 1:02:01You I'm going to make a broad sweeping statement and say that
- 1:02:08unless you are following the lead generation as rural reaches
- 1:02:14intended, then carrier discretion is a broad stroke in
- 1:02:21regards to talking to customers about The whole male sales that
- 1:02:27stamps socks sales you know, forwarding services and such I
- 1:02:31think that's I wouldn't I wouldn't be personally
- 1:02:35comfortable doing that? But like you said it is carrier
- 1:02:38just discretion in the Facebook group, I upload got my hands on
- 1:02:42a copy of the USPS addendum to the wreck stuff and under the
- 1:02:50rural reach because I have done research on it and I've been
- 1:02:53double check and It does not say you have to fill in under the
- 1:02:57lead on the scanner, but it does say that you need to bring the
- 1:03:01lead information back to management.
- 1:03:04Whether that be in the method of a lead card or even just jotting
- 1:03:10down the person's contact info, and bring it back to management
- 1:03:14that you discussed the role reek. now also under carrier
- 1:03:20discretion just you know, expand on that if somebody's tucking
- 1:03:25their flyers in between the flag in the mailbox and you in put
- 1:03:29that information into the rural reach, I'm comfortable with
- 1:03:33that, you know, Perry is its discretion, but it is not
- 1:03:41paternity, you know that you can generate, you know, some sales
- 1:03:45and I think that that follows under it falls under the rule,
- 1:03:49reach intentions and excellent workers working ever.
- 1:03:53Yeah, this was controversial for a lot of people.
- 1:03:56Absolutely not. We have talked about working off
- 1:04:04the clock. Numerous episodes, do not do it.
- 1:04:09If management, so paying somebody to come in early, then
- 1:04:13they need to be clocking in and when you say, oh, it's my
- 1:04:21hurting anyone I can't remember, what year, what it might have
- 1:04:28been the 2012 arbitration if not, it was the one before that.
- 1:04:37but an arbitrator will look at and they see the post office
- 1:04:41showed the reports of how many hours on average, it was taking
- 1:04:46rural carriers to do their routes.
- 1:04:50Which was a lot less. Then the that are valuations
- 1:04:55were and the arbitrator reduced the standards of how many pieces
- 1:05:02of minute. We got all the different classes
- 1:05:04of mail and working off the clock for anybody can affect
- 1:05:08your evaluation overall. You're getting, you're possibly
- 1:05:13getting more mail outs than you're actually getting credit
- 1:05:16for you. Could be doing things that could
- 1:05:19get you hurt and then when you're hurt, you don't get owcp.
- 1:05:24Which affects you owcp. Gives you 75 percent of your pay
- 1:05:29tax free. Until you can get back to work.
- 1:05:46What bugs me about this one, is the fact that we have said and
- 1:05:51fought for years saying we didn't get paid for everything
- 1:05:55we do. So why the hell are you doing
- 1:05:58something? You're not, getting paid for,
- 1:06:01you're cheating yourself, you're cheating the route, you're
- 1:06:03cheating, your sub, you're cheating.
- 1:06:06The person who may get that route after you been on another
- 1:06:09route or you retire or whatever you leave the post office, your
- 1:06:14You're giving them more ammunition and saying that you
- 1:06:18can do more for Less. Don't give them any more excuses
- 1:06:24to cut your pay folks. And like we said, the arbitrator
- 1:06:28took time away from us because of people working off the clock.
- 1:06:32It affected every carrier in the nation.
- 1:06:38Not just the ones that they were doing it, but everyone of us.
- 1:06:44You have that in mind, I'm sick and tired of you know having the
- 1:06:49fight for people who turn around and pull this crap and then oh,
- 1:06:56I went down for hours. No shit.
- 1:06:59Sherlock, you're right. You're reporting times 8:30 in
- 1:07:05our office, you're coming in at 7:58 10, you know, you're giving
- 1:07:09them hours every week for free. And that's money, you're taking
- 1:07:16away from yourself, your family, at your sub.
- 1:07:19And everybody else, because the arbitrator somewhere down the
- 1:07:22line will say damn, they're getting faster.
- 1:07:29Look at the 43 gov DPS letters per minute when we had the FSS
- 1:07:3343 Flats of minute. I'm a little confused on how you
- 1:07:39do Flats as fast as you do letters, I don't.
- 1:07:43But yeah, maybe people do stop chatter.
- 1:07:47So what the machine does it faster, Next one, this one was a
- 1:07:55controversial one on Facebook taking DPS to the street that
- 1:08:01your markups should be sorted while you're on the street, they
- 1:08:04should sort them into attempted not known UTF insufficient
- 1:08:10address, Etc. Know when you're out on the
- 1:08:13street, you're not paid to sort through that stuff.
- 1:08:16That is an end of shift Duty, your end of shift duty is to
- 1:08:20sort your mail and put it where it belongs.
- 1:08:23Great time. Anybody who wants you to do
- 1:08:27that. Get it in writing talk with your
- 1:08:30union rep because it's an industry, if Duty anybody else.
- 1:08:36Well, I mean, I don't know necessarily sort it but I
- 1:08:40separate my ooh bum from all the stuff I have to mark up and
- 1:08:43forward to, I put my 3M mail in a different spot.
- 1:08:50And I put my holds in a different spot and then work
- 1:08:52through it when I get to the office.
- 1:08:55But I don't, I don't like sort it out, but, you know, I have a
- 1:08:58big stack and it's like, you know, sit there and go.
- 1:09:01Okay, here's my, here's all my forwards.
- 1:09:04Here's all my eye, as here's all my in case here's my you TFS and
- 1:09:10just put it all in a big pile and then I do sort it out.
- 1:09:13And then the 3M, I have to separate by by the twos.
- 1:09:16It is either. It's for our office or the other
- 1:09:19office and town. The teza separate zip code.
- 1:09:21They want those separated. I don't separate that on the
- 1:09:24street. But I do put it in different
- 1:09:26sections so that I can. Oh yeah, this is the stuff.
- 1:09:29I got a markup and then I worked through all those markups.
- 1:09:33Yeah, I just throw mine in a tub.
- 1:09:36Now we're gonna go back to my case for when I get back to my
- 1:09:39case. That way I get into shift time.
- 1:09:41All I can enter shift time for mine too but let's go you but
- 1:09:46you're right. I could I could just put it all
- 1:09:47in one pile and and take longer at end of shift.
- 1:09:51Exactly. And it is part of the appeal,
- 1:09:53603 industry of Duty. He's to sort your mail that you
- 1:09:57bring back from the route. So, any manager that's telling
- 1:10:02you, sorted out on the route so you can bring it back and just
- 1:10:06throw it in the slot when you get back, get it in writing,
- 1:10:10talk to your union rep. I usually take everything but
- 1:10:18any Nick. Oh my nixies except you BBM goes
- 1:10:21right into the tub under the case.
- 1:10:22But All the rest of the nixies. Just except for, I a go into one
- 1:10:31pile of the IAA, goes in separate file and then it goes
- 1:10:35for a ride. When I get back in the
- 1:10:37afternoon, I actually sort it out.
- 1:10:43Yeah, I'm like James. I just stuck it in my pocket
- 1:10:46bucket and just sort it back when I get to the office.
- 1:10:50The next one, but the scanning Parcels individually versus all
- 1:10:56together for each address. because, I okay, I scan all the
- 1:11:07so when I get to my CB you and I pull out all my parcels.
- 1:11:13I scan all the ones that go into the individual mail slots.
- 1:11:17I scan them all at once. Hit enter and put them in the
- 1:11:20mail slots. I scan all the ones that are
- 1:11:23going into the parcel lockers. I scan them all at once and I
- 1:11:26put them in the parcel lockers. The last, the last thing I saw
- 1:11:31from the union says that it does not matter.
- 1:11:33Whether you scan, you know, scan click through deliver scan,
- 1:11:39click through deliver or if you scan them all together, says the
- 1:11:43last thing it says is I read it says that the credit is the same
- 1:11:49Yeah, yes, with the caveat to that is if the for the same
- 1:11:55address now, I still can't. I do the same as you when I get
- 1:11:59to my Apartments. I scan the mall, you know, all
- 1:12:04the parts of locker ones, completed all the in that
- 1:12:10mailbox one, you know older you know this flat things a little
- 1:12:13bit right into the mail slot but A legend supposedly it does not
- 1:12:23when you scan them all together like that, it's not
- 1:12:26differentiating. Addresses.
- 1:12:34So in that case, you're not getting if you scan them
- 1:12:38separately because they're separate different addresses,
- 1:12:42Like Apartment 101 Apartment 102 or 103, so on and so forth,
- 1:12:46you're not getting the full credit for them B.
- 1:12:49Getting them all together, it was designed for each address to
- 1:12:55be scanned together and they know what packages go with each
- 1:13:01address. So you're going to get the
- 1:13:02credit for that address. However, you scan them whether
- 1:13:06you take the time to scan them individually or you run them all
- 1:13:10together. It makes you faster on the route
- 1:13:13to scan them all together. You get the same credit for both
- 1:13:18so however you want to do it. Carrier discretion.
- 1:13:22You're going to get the same credit unscanned parcels and
- 1:13:27then get this part only to the door or what is 10K unscanned
- 1:13:30parcel. Very basically and we do believe
- 1:13:35we went over this. The quick reference guide.
- 1:13:38Yeah. If the parcel does not have a
- 1:13:41barcode on, it does not have a scannable bark.
- 1:13:44If it does not have a bar code, it's a nun scam, parcel.
- 1:13:48If the barcode won't scan or won't scan, and you can't read
- 1:13:55the numbers to type it in. It's a nun scam parcel.
- 1:14:01And I don't understand this part only to the door, no understand
- 1:14:04parcel has the same delivery options as a regular parcel.
- 1:14:07You can deliver it to enter at the mailbox.
- 1:14:10You can deliver it to the parcel Locker.
- 1:14:13You can deliver it to the door. You can leave it with an
- 1:14:17individual. At the address.
- 1:14:19You can leave it in the garage or other location, all the same
- 1:14:22options for delivering, a regular parcel that you scan are
- 1:14:27available under on scan parcel. And you should and you should
- 1:14:31select the option. You're doing to get the proper
- 1:14:34credit, you know, if it's something you had to walk to the
- 1:14:37door, you want to get that, you want to get that credit for
- 1:14:40walking, it to the door or handoff to individual whichever
- 1:14:44is accurate carrier. Discretion.
- 1:14:47This is Carrier discretion on the end scan parcel.
- 1:14:49Just like every other scan root out with.
- 1:14:52Well, well, what do you know? I don't think there's much
- 1:14:56discretion, though. If you can, I mean deal.
- 1:14:59I mean if you think that if because I see a lot of people
- 1:15:02complain about not wanting to type in the numbers because the
- 1:15:05label won't scan. That's not discretion.
- 1:15:08I mean that's laziness that's laziness I you know, Because I
- 1:15:17heard back, when this all started that, when you manually
- 1:15:20put the numbers in, you get a different credit.
- 1:15:24Now, it's not showing up on anything from what I saw in my
- 1:15:264241 but supposedly it was supposed to be in there that if
- 1:15:31you actually manually input, you get a different credit for it,
- 1:15:35so maybe they'll eventually you know that, you know why?
- 1:15:37I know that's not true, then they would be banging on, did
- 1:15:41they would be banging on Amazon or these Amazon sellers.
- 1:15:45And The other bad one I get is Target and cold holes.
- 1:15:52Yeah. That their their, their label
- 1:15:55printers suck and some of their label printers suck.
- 1:16:01Because it's just like because you can look at the number and
- 1:16:05say, nope, that one's getting typed in because there's little
- 1:16:07gaps in the in the numbers you're typing in.
- 1:16:14I think the post office would be would be really banging on them
- 1:16:18to make sure they're their printers have ink, the, their
- 1:16:22printheads are good, because I tighten there's days, I'm typing
- 1:16:27in a lot of those, for those in, for those, for those businesses,
- 1:16:32for those sellers. Well you can't worry.
- 1:16:37Okay guys, we get a lot of these foundations for contributions
- 1:16:43from Native Americans, right? You know, Easter Seals and
- 1:16:47everything else. Now in in our office you know,
- 1:16:52we get to you lines, everybody gets to you line.
- 1:16:55Yep. It that you line doesn't go in
- 1:16:57my one inch slot with the mail. In there to me carry discretion,
- 1:17:04it's none, scan, parcel. If you get those big envelopes,
- 1:17:09the, you know, from the for asking for donations and you
- 1:17:12can't bend them to fit your case and you shouldn't have to bend
- 1:17:15them to fit in your case because of the fact that they should
- 1:17:18slide. In just like any other piece of
- 1:17:20mail, whether it be a flatter letter to me that is not
- 1:17:24unscannable parcel. Now I have several mailboxes
- 1:17:28where I can fit my two grandsons into them because they're
- 1:17:31they're not too big, they really are.
- 1:17:33I mean I put Priority boxes in there and it doesn't matter if I
- 1:17:37have none scan parcel. It's going in the mailbox.
- 1:17:40If it won't go into a standard mailbox and I have to take it to
- 1:17:43the door, it goes to the door as a nun.
- 1:17:45Scan parcel. But again, it's carried
- 1:17:49discretion. Yep.
- 1:17:51And I think, when I see the you lines people, you know, cry over
- 1:17:54this, I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it.
- 1:17:58I'll just, I'll just go on to that.
- 1:17:59I will say that in our district RDR put out in his in in our
- 1:18:07training on the mini mail survey that if it is in your parcel and
- 1:18:13I use the general term if it's in your parcel hamper.
- 1:18:18It is a parcel. Well, we heard that to during
- 1:18:22our West training and then they turn around and shot that down
- 1:18:25real quick. Well, Then you have the ones
- 1:18:29that sometimes I get the, in my, in my Pub, in my tub, Flats,
- 1:18:35you'll have. And, you know, the ones I'm
- 1:18:37talking about the Indian School, the VFW, all those ones, and
- 1:18:41then I'll find some of them in my parcel cage, right?
- 1:18:45So instead, I treat them all the same here is here is in the PO,
- 1:18:53603 the definition of a parcel. A parcel is a any frigid article
- 1:19:01that exceeds any one of the following Dimensions 5 inches in
- 1:19:06height. 18 inches in length, one and 9/16, and width.
- 1:19:16So that is what they call a parcel.
- 1:19:21So do with that. What you wish?
- 1:19:24Yeah, Carrie asleep. I was going to say too because
- 1:19:28they're saying we don't use the blue rulers anymore, and the
- 1:19:31blue rulers are based on those, on those measurements that you
- 1:19:34just that you just read. Yes.
- 1:19:39So if you believe must be reading my mic cuz I was just
- 1:19:42going to say something about the blue rulers with that one, too.
- 1:19:45That's RDR, said not in my drawer.
- 1:19:49He said he said that. The blue, the you can just throw
- 1:19:52away your blue rulers now because we don't use them
- 1:19:54anymore. But the only language, the only
- 1:19:58language we have is the P. 603. I mean other than them saying,
- 1:20:02if it's in your if it's in your hamper, it's a parcel.
- 1:20:06The only, the only concrete language we have is the P 603
- 1:20:10which has those measurements that James just read?
- 1:20:13And those equate to the gaps on the blue measuring gauge, which
- 1:20:19they say, we don't need to use anymore.
- 1:20:23So this really this really, really falls under under the
- 1:20:27heading of carrier discretion, take all of that oral diarrhea.
- 1:20:31I just I just spewed. And do with it.
- 1:20:35What you will? No, we are.
- 1:20:42There's only there we go. Now I can't recall but I have
- 1:20:48seen in Rex where they still do the dimensions of 18 and a half
- 1:20:53inches and all and I've stood there laughing on folks.
- 1:20:57I mean you make up your mind is it a parcel?
- 1:21:00Or isn't it long? As you as long as you feel, you
- 1:21:03can back it up. Don't leave money on the table
- 1:21:06if you can back it up. Yeah, they'll leave them.
- 1:21:10This next one is definitely for you.
- 1:21:13If I don't have DPS for the box, I'm not stopping at it.
- 1:21:20What if, what if you have a box folder?
- 1:21:23What if you have newspapers? It dropped off the dear doc
- 1:21:26every morning. What if you have marriage mail,
- 1:21:30what if you have clerk male? What if you have the food drive
- 1:21:34cards? What if you have any number of
- 1:21:37items? That's nothing pregnant yet.
- 1:21:41Flag the flags up and I don't have mail for it.
- 1:21:45Why should I stop I'm not getting credit for it because
- 1:21:49the wreck systems recording whether I have DPS for it folks.
- 1:21:54You stopped at the mailbox for flag, you stop for clerk,
- 1:21:58letters for box holders for saturation, mailings for
- 1:22:02whatever you want to call it. If you have one article mail.
- 1:22:06If the flag is up, if somebody has a parcel in a plastic bag,
- 1:22:12hanging from your mailbox for Carrier pick up.
- 1:22:16Stop for the Box. if you don't have anything for that box, if I
- 1:22:25don't have anything for that box and their flag is not up, I'm
- 1:22:30not stopping at the Box. I'm not getting caught one way
- 1:22:35or the other trying to pad my delivery evaluation. .
- 1:22:43T 06-03. Your delivery and pickup
- 1:22:50information is in the PO. 603, it says an email that you have
- 1:22:56to be delivered to the Box, the day you receive it.
- 1:22:59Unless management authorizes you to leave it.
- 1:23:04If the flag is up, you are required to stop at that box.
- 1:23:08Now, I know that some people, well, big hashtag going around
- 1:23:13is not today, Postal Inspector. Whistle inspector could probably
- 1:23:18go around and throw a letter in a box.
- 1:23:20Put the flag up and see if you picked it up.
- 1:23:23Don't take that chance with your job.
- 1:23:26Now, I know a lot of people are going to say, oh the postal
- 1:23:28inspectors, don't do a lot of them but they don't go around
- 1:23:30and do a lot of stuff. They do.
- 1:23:33They set up stings on people. They get enough complaints.
- 1:23:37They're going to actually investigate people will call in,
- 1:23:41they'll call your postmaster, they'll call District they'll
- 1:23:44call National and complain, and then the postal inspectors will
- 1:23:48come out and see if you're doing it.
- 1:23:50Whether it's leaving, mail for days, on end in the mailbox,
- 1:23:53whether it's stealing gift. Cards from the mail.
- 1:23:57Like some people have been doing some people have stolen check
- 1:24:00some people have stolen money. So the postal inspectors will
- 1:24:04come out and do do sting operations.
- 1:24:06If they feel like something's amiss on your row and then
- 1:24:09you'll get in trouble for it. And the postal inspectors are a
- 1:24:12lot better at writing, paperwork than your local postmaster.
- 1:24:16Is the union would have a harder time fighting against it, so be
- 1:24:22mindful and do your job because customer service is Is the one
- 1:24:27thing us rural carriers, do best?
- 1:24:30We take care of our customers, we watch out for our customers.
- 1:24:35That's our pride. In our job here your head said
- 1:24:39that they their postmaster was having them back to the same
- 1:24:46time whether or not Under the new validation.
- 1:24:52Again, it goes back to the seven and a half hour.
- 1:24:54We talked about earlier if managers telling you to come
- 1:24:57back at your evaluated time, that's delaying.
- 1:25:02The mail in essence and hurting your evaluation, so by them
- 1:25:10telling you a comeback, you want that?
- 1:25:12Tell him you want that in writing round, dated and signed
- 1:25:15on your desk. When you get back in the office
- 1:25:19and and you need to contact, I would take that straight to your
- 1:25:22District route. Yeah, straight to your District
- 1:25:25rep because that needs to be moved up to the district office,
- 1:25:31because your union rep will pass it up to your District rep.
- 1:25:34Your District rep will take it to the district office.
- 1:25:36That's the only people that can talk to district office, is your
- 1:25:39District rep. So, I would talk with your
- 1:25:44manager that's putting that. Yeah, so don't don't let them
- 1:25:50bully. You get it in writing.
- 1:25:53Beautiful the other. Stop saying things when you ask
- 1:25:56for it and writing that funny. Yeah, that's that's how you get
- 1:26:02us all. If they want to put their name
- 1:26:05on it, then that means they stand behind it.
- 1:26:08I armed all my carriers with that phrase.
- 1:26:11Can I get that in writing? And text messages are not an
- 1:26:16official form of communication. Except in an emergency, however
- 1:26:21you can use text message images. You can print them out, take a
- 1:26:25screenshot, send them to your email, print them out and use
- 1:26:29them as more examples of them giving you direct orders like
- 1:26:34they say in the text. I'm giving you a direct order to
- 1:26:37do this because a text message is going to be time.
- 1:26:40Stamped mmm. So you can actually show on this
- 1:26:45date. At this time, they gave me a
- 1:26:48direct order to do this. So, even though text messages
- 1:26:53are not an official form of communication, you can still use
- 1:26:57them as examples of them, giving you direct orders and at least
- 1:27:02supposedly. Yep, the other thing too, is we
- 1:27:05say it's supposed to be for emergency and the same thing
- 1:27:10with messages through the scanner.
- 1:27:12They're supposed to be you know emergency situations they can't
- 1:27:16say you know hey there's You know, make sure you make sure
- 1:27:23you're taking emergency or safety messages, you know, they
- 1:27:27can't say, Hey, you know it's hot today.
- 1:27:29Make sure you're taking breaks in the shade.
- 1:27:32Oh, by the way parts, we have late Parcels.
- 1:27:34Come back to the office. They can't speak something in
- 1:27:37like that. They have to be directly safety
- 1:27:40or emergency messages only For example, tornado, warning in the
- 1:27:48area, get to say filter if we're coming up on major tornado
- 1:27:52season. We've had quite a few in the
- 1:27:54country already. That's an example of an
- 1:27:56emergency message. Or another example was there was
- 1:28:02a shooting at a mall just recently in Texas.
- 1:28:06If a carrier was in that area that manager could send a
- 1:28:09message. Hey there's a shooter at this
- 1:28:11mall. Find safe shelter somewhere
- 1:28:14that's an emergency message. Yep.
- 1:28:16Police activity. Yeah, Amber Alert.
- 1:28:25Yeah, yeah. So Any kind of message that's in
- 1:28:30Urgent Message that results in your Safety and Security is
- 1:28:37considered an emergency message. A make sure you're back by 6:00
- 1:28:42technically is not an emergency message.
- 1:28:47No. But if it's if it's winter time
- 1:28:50and they send a message out that says all carriers are to be back
- 1:28:53by 6:00. That is an emergency message
- 1:28:57because they're calling everybody back to the office.
- 1:29:00I do recall. Yep, General recall or roads are
- 1:29:04getting bad, all carriers, come back to the office.
- 1:29:10So weather-related emergencies active shooters.
- 1:29:16You know, or a wildfire in your area.
- 1:29:21That's another one that can happen.
- 1:29:23Especially in our more rural areas Wildfire roads.
- 1:29:27Are these roads are now closed in on your route.
- 1:29:30That's an emergency message. First, if you like management,
- 1:29:36my office, you won't have that information until we actually
- 1:29:38get back and say, hey, yeah. If you, if you have a manager at
- 1:29:44Steve's on top of that stuff, you got a good manager.
- 1:29:48At least for that aspect and the free phrase for that aspect by
- 1:29:55carrier, carrier discretion on whether that's a good manager,
- 1:29:58not God. I did notice was comedy night.
- 1:30:05Well, we did. Anybody.
- 1:30:20And if you take anything away from good for you.
- 1:30:23Yeah, exactly. If it gets you to talk with your
- 1:30:27union rep, hurrying, we did our job.
- 1:30:32We, if we, if we gave our Union reps, a reason to talk with
- 1:30:37their carriers, hooray. I mean, yeah, granted, we may
- 1:30:41have made more work for them, but that means they're actually
- 1:30:43getting in contact with their carriers and actually working on
- 1:30:46building up the craft. I will take that as a win.
- 1:30:50Mark, you decided that you stepped up to be as Union,
- 1:30:53steward, yay. Or you decided you're going to
- 1:30:57run for local state or national office.
- 1:31:00Yeah. Hey.
- 1:31:01Are you just going to go in and send them eating?
- 1:31:03Yay. Sorry for if you're willing to
- 1:31:08pass on information to your fellow rural carrier, that may
- 1:31:11not listen to our podcast or, you know, pass on information.
- 1:31:15Hey, I just read this in the p. Three.
- 1:31:18Check this out. Yay.
- 1:31:23Or if your supervisor confused her cell phone with you the
- 1:31:26scanner and accidentally sent you a Chick-fil-A order and say,
- 1:31:35hey as long as they paid for it. But they only work four hours a
- 1:32:29day. And then the rest of the time
- 1:32:32they're working 10 hours a day. And they average out to six and
- 1:32:37a half six days a week. So you want that serious thing
- 1:32:45with doing hourly like the city carriers?
- 1:32:49You may lose that protection of only having your one route?
- 1:32:55Yes, he definitely will. I mean, that that's the other
- 1:32:59downfall to being hourly and if you think your micromanage now?
- 1:33:07Yeah. Imagine when it's going to be
- 1:33:09like, why you you stop for Ten minutes here.
- 1:33:12You stopped for 15 minutes there.
- 1:33:13What were you doing? You want to know
- 1:33:15micromanagement? Ask one of your city carrier
- 1:33:17brother--and or sister. Yep.
- 1:33:21They know all about the micromanaging of your hours.
- 1:33:24When your hourly ask them. They'll tell you not only how it
- 1:33:28goes and not only that. You know, I know people are
- 1:33:32complaining about all the extra stuff you have to do Under the
- 1:33:35RX. Think about before the before
- 1:33:39the city carriers went off the Actual physical time, clocks.
- 1:33:42They had their little card, you know, they had a clock in, they
- 1:33:45had to clock out. If they changed.
- 1:33:48If they were doing a different function, they had to go back to
- 1:33:51the time, clock, swipe, their card and change their function
- 1:33:54on the time clock and now they're doing it on the scanner.
- 1:33:58Yeah. It's like clerks had to do it.
- 1:34:00Just like the janitors had to do that.
- 1:34:02So, you know, you know, that if we go hourly, our Rex will
- 1:34:09probably go on a system like the city.
- 1:34:11We would probably go on a system like the city carriers and
- 1:34:14you're going to clock in and clock out, you're going to break
- 1:34:16in breakout and any little change in your function.
- 1:34:22You're going to you're going to have to enter it into the
- 1:34:24scanner so you're going to be doing the RX stuff but in a
- 1:34:29different it will be a different flavor and only an on top of
- 1:34:34that want to do that. There won't be any more six hour
- 1:34:38days, on a tooth, on a Wednesday after a Tuesday.
- 1:34:41Day after a holiday. There's nothing.
- 1:34:44What are you the short days anymore?
- 1:34:46You're going to be there eight hours minimum?
- 1:34:49Yep. Minimum and like I said before
- 1:34:53let's not forget City carriers. Also have to submit a 39.96 if
- 1:34:58they're requesting anything over whether it's auxiliary
- 1:35:01Assistance or overtime, they have to put that request in To
- 1:35:08be granted that a management will say nope.
- 1:35:12And so now you're got to try and push nine and a half hours worth
- 1:35:15of work in eight hours because they just deny you, your OT, or
- 1:35:19your assistance. And like I said before it, and
- 1:35:25you were just saying if you wanted your eight hours, you
- 1:35:27have to and you you know, you're efficient, you're one of the
- 1:35:31speed demons, you know, we report it 7:30 or done by one.
- 1:35:35Well, guess what? You Have to be there till 3:30
- 1:35:38for the next two hours. Hey, we're we were short, you
- 1:35:42know? Hey, we were down two routes
- 1:35:45today. We need you to take two hours
- 1:35:47off of pick your route. Or two hours off of Route 2 and
- 1:35:52Route 3. Eat more.
- 1:35:54You can make it or no I really have to leave and it's like okay
- 1:36:00if you want to get paid today then you then you need to put in
- 1:36:04leave and then we'll of course will be able to start taking
- 1:36:07leave an hourly segments to then it's like, well then you need to
- 1:36:11submit a leaves leave request, or you need to put in leave for
- 1:36:14these last two hours. Set, and here's a problem with
- 1:36:18that whole scenario. Say you have a Jason on your on
- 1:36:22in your office and he does his Aid, our route and five and a
- 1:36:25half hours every day. He's been doing it that way for
- 1:36:28the last two and a half years, they have down routes and they
- 1:36:32turn around. They want to hand off two hours
- 1:36:34to them. Okay?
- 1:36:36Now the problem of it is he'll start slowing down so that he
- 1:36:39starts working these hours and they come back and say look for
- 1:36:43two and a half years, you've been doing it for five and five
- 1:36:45and a half hours. The only time you went over five
- 1:36:48and a half hours during the Christmas over time, with all of
- 1:36:50a sudden, you were working your eight hours.
- 1:36:53They're going to use all this data in there.
- 1:36:55In the wreck system that are advantageous a know, you can do
- 1:37:00it as you have for the past two and a half years and we're
- 1:37:03giving these two hours. Now we're going to come into a
- 1:37:06big fight over that because who's the say that he's not
- 1:37:10entitled to take that time to do is Route in the format of eight
- 1:37:16and a half eight and two-thirds hours.
- 1:37:18That is revaluation is Yep, and reviews, the take an extra, two
- 1:37:24hours work off of Route, two or three.
- 1:37:27Yep. All right.
- 1:37:29I think we're going to start winding this down, actually, now
- 1:37:32that she's home. I had this whole thing that I
- 1:37:37wanted to talk about earlier and I've wanted to and every time I
- 1:37:41get a chance, I'm going to have to write it down next time.
- 1:37:43So I can remind myself for next time because it totally escaped
- 1:37:48me again. So far.
- 1:37:50Of those things going to. Yes, I want to talk about that
- 1:37:53and then. Okay, it's a few days and then
- 1:37:55you forget about it and then gets closer like, oh yeah, I'm
- 1:37:58going to talk about that. And then things happen.
- 1:38:02And yeah. So next time, I remember what I
- 1:38:05wanted to talk about, I will write it down so I could talk
- 1:38:09about it. You have any final thoughts.
- 1:38:12Kristen on what we talked about the in-betweens of what I heard?
- 1:38:17Yeah, because it was going in and out of Psych know, Yeah.
- 1:38:23Basically, you know, guys, if you need of any type of moral
- 1:38:28support, mental support definitely.
- 1:38:34There are revenues to reach out. You know, my prayers and
- 1:38:37thoughts are with these families that are affected.
- 1:38:40Most definitely I may go ahead and post up the go fund me on
- 1:38:46the Facebook page and a little bit.
- 1:38:48Once I get log back in and everybody stay safe.
- 1:38:53Do your jobs, we're providing a service.
- 1:38:56Keep providing that service. If management wants to fight you
- 1:39:00on. Providing that service contact
- 1:39:03your union rep. I can't stress that enough.
- 1:39:06It's, you know, we are not the answer for Buddy, like I said,
- 1:39:11this podcast is entertainment purposes.
- 1:39:13Only you take something away. That's awesome.
- 1:39:17But the people that you really genuinely should be talking to
- 1:39:21is your local stewards, various towards a DRS DRS.
- 1:39:26You know, make sure you're contacting them if Management's
- 1:39:29trying to pull some funky stuff. Other than that, you know, guys
- 1:39:34do your job, the way, you know, how to do it, do it to your best
- 1:39:38ability. And you know, eventually all
- 1:39:42this BS quirks and everything that's wrong with Rex.
- 1:39:49Hopefully, someday may eventually get worked out, we
- 1:39:54hope so, for everybody's sake and but yeah, be safe out there.
- 1:39:59Hug your loved ones, tell them. You love them.
- 1:40:03And I'll give that on to the next guy, cuz now I have to go
- 1:40:08in and face the music. Mike.
- 1:40:16Part of part of our compensation, if you didn't, if
- 1:40:20you didn't see it, they came out and said that for this year, to
- 1:40:25regular. If you're carrying over leave
- 1:40:28for this year, you can carry 65 days over at the end of the
- 1:40:31year. Always remember that.
- 1:40:35Leave is part of your compensation and if if you need
- 1:40:43time, if you need to take a mental health day Or if you just
- 1:40:48need to take a break. You have leave to use, put it
- 1:40:53in, Take the Lead fight for it if you have to but take your
- 1:40:58time off, okay? And like Kristen said, you know,
- 1:41:04tomorrow's not tomorrow's, not promised to us anyway.
- 1:41:08So don't ever you know, don't don't miss a chance to tell the
- 1:41:11people who are important to you that they're important to you.
- 1:41:17Say take advantage of saying of your loved ones while while
- 1:41:23you're while they are around. So, I'll just leave it there.
- 1:41:31Like we've said, multiple times. Do what you're supposed to do.
- 1:41:39How you're supposed to do it? Don't cut Corners.
- 1:41:45Don't try and inflate. Your numbers.
- 1:41:55If you feel, you need help. Like I said, the top of the
- 1:42:01episode, if you feel you need help. find someone to talk to,
- 1:42:07whether it be a friend, a family member, A co-worker pap.
- 1:42:16Some, you know, someone anyone, as I always say, try not to get
- 1:42:23overwhelmed. If you do take a step back, take
- 1:42:27a deep breath and step back in. Hope everyone has a good week
- 1:42:33will speak to you next time. It really bothers me when
- 1:42:37somebody is driven to the point. Of taking their own life over.
- 1:42:43Something like a job, I and I've been overwhelmed in my life at
- 1:42:50times and thankfully, my upbringing prevailed, I've never
- 1:43:00considered suicide but I can understand how people are driven
- 1:43:05to that point. I just want us to look out for
- 1:43:08each other. Even if I don't like you
- 1:43:13personally, I don't want anything to happen to you
- 1:43:16because there are other people who depend on you.
- 1:43:19Who love you? Who do like you.
- 1:43:22And to me, each life is important whether we get along
- 1:43:27or not and life is so short and precious that we need to take
- 1:43:35care of each other. I know coming from an asshole
- 1:43:40like myself. This is, you know, Monumental
- 1:43:43somebody trying to understand that I am this sentimental,
- 1:43:46emotional whatever, thoughtful in regards to people, but life
- 1:43:53is too precious. I have lost a son, I have lost
- 1:43:58my parents. I have lost brothers and
- 1:44:02sisters. and not not anything, you know, of them take hurting
- 1:44:09themselves but, you know, through other means And you
- 1:44:15don't realize how important you are to the people in your life.
- 1:44:22So if you ever get to a point where you consider harming
- 1:44:25yourself, step back and think of them, instead of thinking of
- 1:44:31yourself, reach out there are plenty of resources, UAP
- 1:44:37Suicide, Hotline there there your local Pastor or priest, or
- 1:44:43Minister that Don't give up. Just like we fight for our craft
- 1:44:51here on this podcast, okay? Fight for yourself, fight for
- 1:44:57your family fight, for your loved ones, your friends.
- 1:45:01Don't give up. There is plenty of support out
- 1:45:07there if you ask and and for everybody who is not of that
- 1:45:12mind, do you wear of their? There are people that in our
- 1:45:17offices that suffer some sort of mental illness or sickness
- 1:45:22depression, whatever. That you may just notice little
- 1:45:26things that being off, like I said, approach them make small
- 1:45:30talk, let it lead into a conversation, how they're doing
- 1:45:34and everything else, you kind of feel them out, but don't let
- 1:45:38them feel alone. We are craft.
- 1:45:42We are a family. And I don't like everybody.
- 1:45:47My family is sure. Everybody doesn't like everybody
- 1:45:51to family, but you don't get to pick them.

- 1:46:11outside of the office, across the country in postal service.
- 1:46:17So, go out there, be safe, do your job as you're expected to
- 1:46:23do it, do it. As you're paid to do it.
- 1:46:27He's safe and get home to your loved ones.
- 1:46:29And when you get home, hug them, kiss them and tell them you love
- 1:46:33them. Because like that carrier who
- 1:46:36Way hours before his retirement you never know.
- 1:46:40When that last moment is Make sure your loved ones.
- 1:46:45Know how much you care about them?
- 1:46:54Very well said guys, I really like that.
- 1:46:56I'm going to piggyback off of that as someone who has actually
- 1:47:01witnessed the devastation of that to a family.
- 1:47:07Not my own, but to a family, and how it affects them, we all need
- 1:47:15to be out together in this. There is always somebody to talk
- 1:47:20to Whether it be EAP or 988 or your friends, your family, like
- 1:47:31he said a pastor or priest, your religious leader counselor there
- 1:47:38are a lot of counselors out there and a lot of the insurance
- 1:47:42providers out there. Actually pay for most
- 1:47:45counseling's. There are actually different
- 1:47:50Avenues you can go. Health has people that can do
- 1:47:53that to under a lot of County programs or state programs to
- 1:47:57assist with that. You are not alone, we are not
- 1:48:01alone and to go off of what we were talking about today.
- 1:48:07You're going to have questions, you're going to have different
- 1:48:10answers. But we're all in this together,
- 1:48:13we're here for each other. We're here to support each other
- 1:48:17and get through this with each other.
