• 2:43
Speaker 2: we'll take on Gardner Webb. And here to talk about now,
• 2:46
Speaker 2: Melody Pallero of the Marshall University Kanawha Valley Alumni Chapter.
• 2:50
  Speaker 2: How you doing?
• 2:51
Speaker 5: I'm good. How are you?
• 2:52
Speaker 2: I'm fine. Thank you for being here.
• 2:54
  Speaker 5: Absolutely.
• 2:55
Speaker 2: By the way, thank you for the nice gifts that
• 2:57
  Speaker 2: you brought.
• 2:58
  Speaker 5: Happy birthday.
• 2:59
Speaker 2: Thank you very much. And your birthday was yesterday. Yes.
• 3:02
Speaker 2: So happy birthday to you as well. And Melanie comes
• 3:05
Speaker 2: in here bearing gifts today. There probably aren't any left now,
• 3:08
Speaker 2: but some Spring Hill pastries. I appreciate you bringing those
• 3:12
Speaker 2: in for the staff here.
• 3:13
  Speaker 5: You're welcome.
• 3:14
Speaker 2: You're most welcome. So I want to talk about, before
• 3:18
Speaker 2: we get to actual activities going on with homecoming this
• 3:20
Speaker 2: weekend about the Kanawha Valley chapter, I want to talk
• 3:22
Speaker 2: about some of the events that you have done in
• 3:24
Speaker 2: the past. Tell us what it's all about, some of
• 3:26
Speaker 2: the events that you plan to do in the past.
• 3:28
Speaker 2: Just tell us about the organization. Our chapter, local chapter?
• 3:31
  Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
• 3:31
  Speaker 4: Sure.
• 3:33
Speaker 5: Yeah, we've, really this year, we're kind of coming into
• 3:36
Speaker 5: our own. We have about 100 members now. Very excited
• 3:39
Speaker 5: about that. And had some, just meet and greets. Five
• 3:43
Speaker 5: Street Brewing, which are, Owners are alumni, Marshall alumni, and
• 3:48
Speaker 5: we appreciate that. And so coming up, our next big
• 3:52
Speaker 5: event is going to be October the 3rd. We're going
• 3:54
Speaker 5: to have a watch party for the JMU game. So
• 3:57
Speaker 5: stay tuned. Look at our Facebook page to get more
• 4:00
Speaker 5: details on that. And just trying to engage with students.
• 4:06
Speaker 5: We want not only alumni to attend, but want to
• 4:08
Speaker 5: engage in students and see how we can be supportive
• 4:11
Speaker 5: of those that are currently attending Marshall. And then, of course,
• 4:15
Speaker 5: once they graduate, And hopefully stay in the area. They'll
• 4:17
Speaker 5: become members of the chapter.
• 4:19
Speaker 2: I think it's great that you're getting the younger people
• 4:21
Speaker 2: involved in it, too, because a lot of times with
• 4:22
Speaker 2: these alumni groups, you get old people like us.
• 4:25
  Speaker 5: Exactly.
• 4:26
Speaker 2: And you've got to get the young people engaged at
• 4:29
Speaker 2: an early stage. At an early age, those that are
• 4:33
Speaker 2: either just out of school or those that are still
• 4:35
Speaker 2: in school, involving them as well.
• 4:36
  Speaker 1: Absolutely.
• 4:37
Speaker 5: And there's no cost to join. I mean, we don't
• 4:39
Speaker 5: charge dues. So just come meet and greet. And, you know,
• 4:42
Speaker 5: it's a great way to network professionally, meet people and
• 4:47
Speaker 5: potential job opportunities. You never know what's going to come about. And,
• 4:51
Speaker 5: you know, we always, everybody likes to have a good time. Coca-Cola, beverage,
• 4:56
Speaker 5: and a snack. So we like to eat and greet
• 4:58
  Speaker 5: and meet.
• 4:59
Speaker 2: Well, and you get everybody together there, especially when you
• 5:01
Speaker 2: do the watch parties. I've been to them, you know,
• 5:03
Speaker 2: when you get all the fans there and you're yelling
• 5:07
Speaker 2: at the refs. And it's just a good environment all around.
• 5:10
  Speaker 1: It is.
• 5:11
  Speaker 7: It is.
• 5:12
Speaker 5: And, you know, everybody has their Marshall stories. So we
• 5:15
Speaker 5: like to get together and hear what their wonderful time
• 5:17
Speaker 5: on campus is. And yeah, just you're on the herd,
• 5:21
Speaker 5: whether it's basketball, football, soccer.
• 5:24
Speaker 2: My wife and I actually were in Huntington this past weekend.
• 5:26
Speaker 2: We didn't go on campus, but we did drive around
• 5:30
Speaker 2: a couple times because we always do. And I will
• 5:33
Speaker 2: make it down there during the fall because to me,
• 5:35
Speaker 2: if I'm in Huntington and I just pull over, and
• 5:39
Speaker 2: walk around campus and get back in the car and
• 5:40
Speaker 2: leave again. There is just something about that campus, uh,
• 5:45
Speaker 2: in the, in the fall when the leaves start to
• 5:47
Speaker 2: turn also when it snows. And I'm not a snow lover.
• 5:49
Speaker 2: People know that, but when you got some snow on
• 5:51
Speaker 2: the ground or fall, it's an absolutely beautiful campus. When
• 5:54
Speaker 2: you get, you know, get around old Maine and some
• 5:56
  Speaker 2: of those, it's, it's fantastic.
• 5:57
Speaker 5: It brings back those memories. It's kind of good for
• 6:00
Speaker 5: the soul and the spirit. Uh, and that's one, what's
• 6:02
Speaker 5: one great thing about homecoming. You encourage people to come
• 6:05
Speaker 5: back on campus and, um, Meet their roommates.
• 6:10
Speaker 2: And you see things on campus, too, that are vastly different.
• 6:15
  Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
• 6:15
Speaker 2: But then you also see that some things don't change.
• 6:17
Speaker 2: And that's true of any homecoming. I mean, you can't
• 6:20
Speaker 2: go to Huntington right now and drive down Hal Greer
• 6:23
Speaker 2: or drive down 3rd Avenue and not see Marshall everywhere.
• 6:26
Speaker 2: I mean, I was there when they built the stadium,
• 6:28
Speaker 2: you know, the Joan. And so I still remember Fairfield,
• 6:32
Speaker 2: you know. But, I mean, it's amazing what that university
• 6:36
Speaker 2: has meant to me. to Huntington. I mean, as, as I,
• 6:40
Speaker 2: we are interviewing the mayor a couple of weeks ago and, uh, uh,
• 6:43
Speaker 2: and he, Mayor Farrell of Huntington, he said, it's as
• 6:45
Speaker 2: Huntington goes, uh, as Marshall goes, so, so does Huntington go.
• 6:48
Speaker 2: And so it's a lot of good stuff.
• 6:50
  Speaker 8: All right.
• 6:51
Speaker 2: So let's get to homecoming. What you guys got going on? Well,
• 6:53
Speaker 2: you know, this is the week.
• 6:54
Speaker 5: So it's a lot of activities are going on, started
• 6:56
Speaker 5: off on Monday and we'll continue throughout the week. And then, um,
• 7:02
Speaker 5: It's an 80s theme, so who doesn't love great big
• 7:05
Speaker 5: hair and some Aquanet?
• 7:06
Speaker 2: Bring that back. I know I do because I had
• 7:09
Speaker 2: the world's best mullet. Have you ever seen the picture?
• 7:11
  Speaker 5: I have not.
• 7:12
Speaker 2: I have to check that out. I'll show it to
• 7:13
Speaker 2: you during the break. I post it every so often.
• 7:15
Speaker 2: The best mullet ever I had when I graduated high school.
• 7:19
Speaker 5: See, there you go. So we're 80s theme. And on Saturday,
• 7:23
Speaker 5: which is, you know, of course, the big game, the
• 7:27
Speaker 5: homecoming game, Alumni Association will have a big homecoming tent.
• 7:31
Speaker 5: It's going to be on 20th Street lot with food, drinks, music.
• 7:35
Speaker 5: You can go online and get your tickets. And it's
• 7:38
Speaker 5: from 1230 to 3. We want to encourage everybody to
• 7:40
Speaker 5: stop by. And it's kind of like pre-gaming before the
• 7:44
Speaker 5: big game. And so at the alumni tent.
• 7:47
Speaker 2: It's interesting. A couple weeks ago on Midday, I interviewed
• 7:50
Speaker 2: the guys from the Thundercast podcast. We featured them on
• 7:54
  Speaker 2: the Lunch Spot.
• 7:55
  Speaker 9: I heard that.
• 7:55
Speaker 2: And, man, I mean, those guys, like, take it to
• 7:58
Speaker 2: another level. If you think this is just the little
• 8:02
Speaker 2: smokies in a crock pot, you've got another thing coming.
• 8:05
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, they're starting Friday night and getting things ready.
• 8:09
Speaker 2: They bring in smokers and the whole deal. It's all good.
• 8:13
Speaker 2: It's amazing to me. to how big tailgating has become.
• 8:17
Speaker 2: I mean, tailgating has always been there. But let's face it,
• 8:20
Speaker 2: it was hot dogs and beer, you know, basically. Now,
• 8:23
Speaker 2: I mean, everywhere across, you know, it is a big production.
• 8:28
Speaker 2: Of course, Marshall now are 2-1 coming off that big win,
• 8:32
Speaker 2: that road win against Southern Missouri last week. And this
• 8:35
Speaker 2: is going to be their final non-conference game. Things are
• 8:37
Speaker 2: looking pretty good with Gibby and Huntington right now.
• 8:39
  Speaker 7: They are.
• 8:39
Speaker 5: They are very exciting. And if you all weren't at
• 8:42
Speaker 5: the game yesterday, Last weekend, you missed it because the
• 8:46
Speaker 5: light show that they have in fourth quarter is just amazing.
• 8:49
Speaker 5: So tickets still available. Come and join us this weekend.
• 8:53
Speaker 5: And not only for homecoming, but for the big game.
• 8:56
Speaker 2: So very exciting. You know, when we talked to President
• 9:00
Speaker 2: Brad Smith, but also the Athletic Director Gerald Harrison, I mean,
• 9:03
Speaker 2: they said, what we want to do is we want
• 9:06
Speaker 2: to make game time experience. It's all about what's on
• 9:09
Speaker 2: the field. We completely realize that. But maybe that's something...
• 9:13
Speaker 2: And you and I can talk about this being alumni
• 9:15
Speaker 2: as a Marshall. Maybe it was a little bit lacking
• 9:18
Speaker 2: in the past. You got to have the shiny stuff.
• 9:20
Speaker 2: And the game is great. That's the main event. But
• 9:23
Speaker 2: the fan experience 2026, they want a little bit more.
• 9:26
Speaker 2: And what you're talking about going into the fourth quarter,
• 9:29
Speaker 2: I mean, that's a whole other level, the pyro and
• 9:32
Speaker 2: the whole deal. That's it.
• 9:33
Speaker 5: And then now they have a kid zone. So as
• 9:35
Speaker 5: you're tailgating, you can also drop your kids off. Very
• 9:38
Speaker 5: safe place for them to bouncy houses and this and that.
• 9:41
Speaker 5: So it's a great family experience. As well. And this
• 9:45
Speaker 5: year they started at the game they unveiled where President
• 9:50
Speaker 5: Smith and freshmen ran across the field to the student section.
• 9:54
Speaker 5: It was pretty awesome to see that. So there's a
• 9:57
Speaker 5: lot of nice, exciting things.
• 9:59
Speaker 2: Peace for our president. Brad Smith has brought a lot
• 10:01
Speaker 2: of positive energy to Marshall University. And, you know, it's
• 10:04
Speaker 2: one of, as enrollment in four-year institutions are dropping, Marshall's
• 10:07
Speaker 2: is actually going up. And it's, you know, the only
• 10:10
Speaker 2: one in the state really that can I can say that.
• 10:13
Speaker 2: I believe, I know, I know with all due respect
• 10:15
Speaker 2: to my WVU folks, I know that theirs is going
• 10:17
Speaker 2: down a little bit and hopefully it'll pop back up again.
• 10:20
Speaker 2: But Marshall's is definitely on the increase.
• 10:22
  Speaker 1: It is.
• 10:22
Speaker 5: And they've got a lot of great things going on.
• 10:24
Speaker 5: And that, um, brings us to the Marshall for all
• 10:27
Speaker 5: program that president Smith has. And first lady Smith has brought, um,
• 10:32
Speaker 5: with their $ 50 million donation, you know, debt-free, um, going
• 10:37
Speaker 5: into for, for students for college. And he's, um, put
• 10:41
Speaker 5: out a challenge for alumni chapters to raise some money,
• 10:46
Speaker 5: and they will match it for this next year through
• 10:48
Speaker 5: June 30th, and they'll match it dollar for dollar. So
• 10:51
Speaker 5: that's our next challenge as the Kanawha Valley chapter, as
• 10:54
Speaker 5: well as chapters across the United States, is to raise
• 10:56
Speaker 5: some money for the Marshall for All program so students
• 10:59
Speaker 5: can go to school debt-free.
• 11:00
Speaker 2: I mean, how cool is that? Because, I mean, we
• 11:02
Speaker 2: talk to so many people now that are still paying
• 11:04
Speaker 2: off student loans all these years later, and He's got
• 11:06
Speaker 2: this program in place, so you don't pay anything. That's
• 11:08
Speaker 2: exactly right. It's good stuff.
• 11:10
  Speaker 10: It is.
• 11:10
  Speaker 4: It is.
• 11:11
Speaker 5: It's a very creative way to get people involved, to
• 11:14
Speaker 5: get alumni involved, and to help students at the same time.
• 11:18
Speaker 2: How did you get involved with the whole alumni thing?
• 11:20
Speaker 2: I mean, I know you went there, but that doesn't
• 11:21
Speaker 2: mean you're involved. How did you get involved in the
• 11:23
  Speaker 2: Kanawha Valley chapter?
• 11:24
Speaker 5: Well, you know, we started the Kanawha Valley chapter. There
• 11:27
Speaker 5: was a chapter that kind of went away, and so–
• 11:30
Speaker 5: A couple of years ago, I just thought I was
• 11:33
Speaker 5: involved with, we had a chapter at the Capitol and
• 11:37
Speaker 5: it was for state employees.
• 11:39
Speaker 2: I was part of that, yeah.
• 11:40
Speaker 5: And unfortunately, once we, if you left state government, you
• 11:45
Speaker 5: were not able to be engaged with that. And so
• 11:50
Speaker 5: became a member of the alumni board, big board at
• 11:54
Speaker 5: the school and thought, you know, we need to get
• 11:56
Speaker 5: our chapter back up and And it's taken us a
• 11:59
Speaker 5: couple of years, but we're there. So I'm very excited.
• 12:01
Speaker 2: Well, having events like this, and like you said, you're
• 12:03
Speaker 2: doing a lot of things downtown, watch parties and things
• 12:06
Speaker 2: like that. It's fun.
• 12:07
  Speaker 1: It is.
• 12:08
Speaker 2: Because you can't rely on just going to the games.
• 12:10
Speaker 2: I mean, the homecoming tailgating is all good. But these
• 12:14
Speaker 2: road games and the ones that are really far, like
• 12:17
Speaker 2: that one. Like that one in Missouri last week. I mean,
• 12:20
Speaker 2: it's part of the engagement. As I said, get everybody together. Now,
• 12:24
Speaker 2: do you have a Facebook page?
• 12:25
  Speaker 6: We do.
• 12:26
Speaker 2: For the Marshall alumni.
• 12:26
  Speaker 11: We do.
• 12:27
Speaker 5: It is the Marshall University Kanawha Valley alumni chapter. And
• 12:32
Speaker 5: follow us there. We're also on Instagram. So if you
• 12:35
Speaker 5: follow us on Facebook, you'll see all those other posts
• 12:39
Speaker 5: and things like that. But that's a way to stay
• 12:43
Speaker 5: in touch. to know what's going on with not only
• 12:46
Speaker 5: the alumni engagement fundraising, but the watch parties. And then
• 12:51
Speaker 5: we're always open to suggestions. If you have some ideas
• 12:53
Speaker 5: of what you'd like to see the chapter get involved in, we,
• 12:56
Speaker 5: you know, we want to get involved with current students.
• 12:59
Speaker 5: We enjoy doing community service projects. So anyway, we can,
• 13:05
Speaker 5: we can continue to get the Marshall name out there
• 13:08
Speaker 5: and is what we want to do.
• 13:09
  Speaker 1: All right.
• 13:10
Speaker 2: Melanie Palero, again, appreciate you being here. And game time
• 13:14
  Speaker 2: is 3.30, I think?
• 13:16
  Speaker 8: 3.30, yep.
• 13:17
Speaker 2: 3.30 kickoff. Going to be an absolutely beautiful day for
• 13:20
Speaker 2: college football. And so we encourage everybody to come down
• 13:24
Speaker 2: to the Joan, join us. Take in the game and
• 13:27
Speaker 2: take in everything that goes along with homecoming because after
• 13:30
Speaker 2: this game, and you don't want to look, you know,
• 13:31
Speaker 2: Gibby would say, we don't want to look by anybody,
• 13:33
Speaker 2: but we get in the conference play after this. That's
• 13:36
Speaker 2: exactly right. So that's when the stuff really, really gets real.
• 13:38
  Speaker 5: That's exactly it.
• 13:39
Speaker 2: All right. Melanie, appreciate you being here as always. Hang
• 13:41

• 17:30
Speaker 2: a great, I guess, late afternoon, early evening Monday at
• 17:32
Speaker 2: Capital Market. Now, I know you have been to Charleston
• 17:34
Speaker 2: a lot. You're a West Virginia girl, but have you
• 17:37
Speaker 2: been to Capital Market?
• 17:39
Speaker 10: You know, I was thinking about that today and looked
• 17:41
Speaker 10: it up online. I've never been there. It is so awesome.
• 17:45
Speaker 2: It is one of the premier spots in Charleston. As
• 17:48
Speaker 2: a matter of fact, when people come to Charleston and
• 17:51
Speaker 2: For business, you know, conferences or whatever, and they're looking
• 17:54
Speaker 2: for something to do, people always point them to Capital
• 17:56
Speaker 2: Market because there's always, you got some great restaurants there,
• 17:59
Speaker 2: coffee shops, wine and cheese shops. Of course, you got
• 18:02
Speaker 2: all the stuff that goes along with a classic farmer's
• 18:04
Speaker 2: market there, too, and is now that we're in fall.
• 18:07
Speaker 2: You know, get there a little bit earlier. Hang out afterwards, Dreamer.
• 18:09
Speaker 2: You're going to love it.
• 18:11
Speaker 10: I guess you're telling me I'm going to be doing
• 18:13
Speaker 10: a lot of shopping.
• 18:13
Speaker 2: You're going to be doing a lot of shopping. Charge
• 18:16
Speaker 2: it all. Charge it all to Burke Allen. It'll be
• 18:18
  Speaker 2: perfectly fine.
• 18:19
Speaker 10: I plan to do that. I love it that you
• 18:21
Speaker 10: told me to. Thank you.
• 18:22
Speaker 2: Yeah. So how long were you married to Bob Denver?
• 18:27
Speaker 10: Bob and I were married for 30 years before he
• 18:31
Speaker 10: passed away. And like he used to tell me all
• 18:33
Speaker 10: the time, In Hollywood years, that's more like 60. Kind
• 18:38
Speaker 10: of like dog years. You can make it 30 years
• 18:42
Speaker 10: in Hollywood, you're doing good. Yeah, but 30 years, and
• 18:46
Speaker 10: he's been gone for 21 years.
• 18:48
  Speaker 1: Wow.
• 18:49
Speaker 10: I know. This past month, actually, September. No, we still
• 18:53
Speaker 10: are September. Yes, this month it was 21 years.
• 18:57
Speaker 1: How did you meet?
• 18:58
Speaker 2: How did you and Bob Denver meet?
• 19:00
Speaker 10: Well, I'm an actress in my young life and I'm
• 19:02
Speaker 10: becoming one again, by the way, which is very exciting.
• 19:07
Speaker 10: I was a stage actress and I got cast in
• 19:10
Speaker 10: a show with him in St. Petersburg, Florida. And the
• 19:14
Speaker 10: two of it was so interesting. The two of us met.
• 19:17
Speaker 10: I got to rehearsal first and he came in later.
• 19:19
Speaker 10: And the marquee on the outside of the theater said
• 19:24
Speaker 10: Bob Denver starring in Play It Again Sam, also starring Dreamer. Perry,
• 19:29
Speaker 10: which was my maiden name. And he walked through the
• 19:32
Speaker 10: door going, what the heck is a dreamer? And I
• 19:36
Speaker 10: was like, that's me. And he goes, seriously, your name
• 19:39
Speaker 10: is dreamer. And I was like, no, no, no, it's
• 19:41
Speaker 10: dream on. And he thought that was just as weird
• 19:43
Speaker 10: because he'd never heard that name before. And I don't know,
• 19:46
Speaker 10: we shook hands and I'm telling you, Dave, it was
• 19:49
Speaker 10: down corny and cliche, but it was electric from the
• 19:52
Speaker 10: very beginning. All the other cast members felt it and
• 19:55
Speaker 10: saw it. And we were, oh, my gosh, I guess
• 19:58
Speaker 10: we started seeing each other seriously like a week later
• 20:02
  Speaker 10: after rehearsals ended.
• 20:04
  Speaker 6: And.
• 20:05
Speaker 10: We're together for 30 years. So it was the real deal.
• 20:08
Speaker 10: Love at first sight kind of thing.
• 20:10
Speaker 2: Well, we need to get Bob Denver to West Virginia
• 20:12
Speaker 2: more often because Dreamer is quite a common name here
• 20:16
Speaker 2: in West Virginia. But I guess he'd never heard of it.
• 20:18
Speaker 2: Where was Bob from originally?
• 20:21
Speaker 10: Bob was from New Rochelle, New York. And he was
• 20:25
Speaker 10: a Salem boy, even as a young man. He moved
• 20:30
Speaker 10: when he was, I'm thinking it was like the beginning
• 20:32
Speaker 10: of high school. When they moved to, first, Brownville, Texas,
• 20:38
Speaker 10: were there for like a year, and then went on
• 20:40
Speaker 10: out to Long Beach, California. And that's where everything happened.
• 20:43
Speaker 10: You know, he went to Loyola University there in L.A.
• 20:48
Speaker 10: and was on the campus at the same time Dwayne
• 20:51
Speaker 10: Hickman was, having no idea that his first big break
• 20:55
Speaker 10: in television would be in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.
• 20:58
Speaker 2: And Dwayne Hickman played Dobie Gillis on the show.
• 21:02
Speaker 10: And Bob played, do you remember?
• 21:04
  Speaker 2: Maynard G.
• 21:04
  Speaker 6: Krebs.
• 21:05
Speaker 10: You got it. And do you know what the G
• 21:07
  Speaker 10: stood for?
• 21:09
  Speaker 2: Now that I don't know.
• 21:10
Speaker 10: Okay. Well, it's kind of a funny Max Schulman who
• 21:14
Speaker 10: wrote the show. It was his answer. The G stood
• 21:16
  Speaker 10: for Walter.
• 21:18
  Speaker 6: Okay.
• 21:18
Speaker 2: There you go. And he was not a fan of work,
• 21:24
Speaker 2: as I remember. The Maynard G. Krebs character was not
• 21:26
Speaker 2: a fan of work.
• 21:28
Speaker 10: No, he was not. And every time Dobie's dad... would
• 21:32
Speaker 10: call off a list of unflattering adjectives. Maynard would always
• 21:37
Speaker 10: walk through the door going, you rang. He was known
• 21:43
  Speaker 10: for that.
• 21:43
Speaker 2: That was kind of the precursor of the whole Lenny
• 21:46
Speaker 2: and Squiggy thing on the Vernon Shirley. You know how
• 21:49
Speaker 2: they would say, this is disgusting. Hello, if you remember that.
• 21:53
Speaker 10: Oh, yeah. I'd forgotten that, but yes, that's true. I
• 21:56
Speaker 10: know Bob was the first beatnik on television and went around...
• 22:01
Speaker 10: to San Francisco coffee houses and L.A. coffee houses to
• 22:05
Speaker 10: study the beatniks and how they acted and what they
• 22:08
Speaker 10: did and what that whole culture was like. And so
• 22:11
Speaker 10: he brought it to television and was accused always starting,
• 22:16
Speaker 10: being the beginning of the hippie movement in the 60s.
• 22:18
Speaker 2: I was going to say, beatniks were kind of like
• 22:20
Speaker 2: the precursor to the hippie movement, you know, the more
• 22:23
Speaker 2: of a 1950s thing. We saw, again, we're talking with
• 22:26
Speaker 2: Dream of Denver, we saw Bob Denver, of course, on
• 22:28
Speaker 2: Gilligan's Island, on Dobie Gillis, as you mentioned. But he
• 22:32
Speaker 2: was so much more, Dream of, than those characters.
• 22:36
Speaker 10: He really was. And that's the reason, you know, I
• 22:38
Speaker 10: wrote a book called Gilligan's Dreams. that really was about
• 22:44
Speaker 10: Bob Denver, the man people don't know. Even diehard fans
• 22:49
Speaker 10: are unaware that he was the father, along with me
• 22:51
Speaker 10: being the mother of an autistic child, severely autistic, nonverbal
• 22:57
Speaker 10: son that we had together, and honestly set aside the
• 23:01
Speaker 10: last 20 years of his life, set aside series work
• 23:05
Speaker 10: and movie work. He did personal appearances to bring home
• 23:08
Speaker 10: the bacon, but he set all of that aside To
• 23:10
Speaker 10: be with me, our son had to have full-time care,
• 23:13
Speaker 10: and he wanted to be with me so that we
• 23:15
Speaker 10: could do it together. And I honestly thought that was
• 23:19
Speaker 10: so worth recognition for people who did love him and
• 23:22
Speaker 10: who did love the show to know that he was
• 23:25
Speaker 10: that kind of man. His son, our marriage came before
• 23:29
Speaker 10: any and everything else. And believe me, I was the
• 23:34
Speaker 10: most grateful person in the world because I wasn't left
• 23:37
Speaker 10: to do it all alone, you know, and I admired
• 23:41
Speaker 10: him for a whole bunch of things, but that is
• 23:43
Speaker 10: one really big thing, the love he had for Colin
• 23:47
  Speaker 10: and me.
• 23:48
Speaker 2: And he really kind of adopted the West Virginia culture,
• 23:53
  Speaker 2: moving here.
• 23:54
Speaker 10: Oh my gosh, he loved West Virginia, and I love
• 23:57
Speaker 10: to be able to tell people that. He thought West
• 23:59
Speaker 10: Virginians were the finest people on the face of the earth.
• 24:03
Speaker 10: The salt of the earth is what he always called them.
• 24:05
Speaker 10: He loved living here. And what he really loved, you know,
• 24:09
Speaker 10: I still am in Princeton, and he lived the last
• 24:11
Speaker 10: 15 years of his life in Princeton. And what he
• 24:15
Speaker 10: loved was it was the initial hubbub when we first
• 24:18
Speaker 10: moved here. Oh, my gosh, Billy is off the island.
• 24:21
Speaker 10: He's moved to the mountains, all that, you know. And
• 24:25
Speaker 10: then when that died down and people got used to
• 24:27
Speaker 10: the fact that he was living here, he could be Bob.
• 24:31
Speaker 10: He could go anywhere. He loved to go to Lowe's
• 24:34
Speaker 10: to look at paints. He loved to go to the
• 24:36
Speaker 10: computer store, just anywhere at the mall sometimes. He would
• 24:41
Speaker 10: go and be able to shop. And people would, you know,
• 24:45
Speaker 10: instead of going crazy and acting, you know, kind of
• 24:48
Speaker 10: silly and wanting to bug him the whole time, it
• 24:51
Speaker 10: was like, hey, Bob, how you doing? He was just Bob.
• 24:54
Speaker 10: He was just a neighbor. And he loved that. He
• 24:57
Speaker 10: was really able. And I'm so grateful that he was
• 25:00
Speaker 10: able to live the last 15 years of his life
• 25:04
Speaker 10: in a very regular way, which is, believe me, when
• 25:08
Speaker 10: I first met him in 1977, he, he was, you know,
• 25:14
Speaker 10: that Gilligan, it was closer to the end of Gilligan's Island.
• 25:18
Speaker 10: So it was still a very big deal and it
• 25:19
Speaker 10: was rerunning all over the place.
• 25:21
Speaker 2: It still is. It still is.
• 25:23
  Speaker 1: I know.
• 25:24
Speaker 10: And it's just, it never, you know, it never stops
• 25:26
Speaker 10: because it really is timeless. That show is, but, but
• 25:29
  Speaker 10: he couldn't, I mean, we really couldn't go anywhere. I
• 25:32
Speaker 10: remember so many times that, we were chased through malls
• 25:35
Speaker 10: by large groups of people. And, you know, and that
• 25:38
Speaker 10: can get exhausting. It makes you want to stay home
• 25:41
Speaker 10: and not do anything. So here he was able to
• 25:44
Speaker 10: be part of the community and get out there and
• 25:46
Speaker 10: meet the people and do things like a neighbor. And
• 25:49
Speaker 10: I love that for him. So thank you, West Virginia,
• 25:51
  Speaker 10: for allowing that.
• 25:53
Speaker 2: And, you know, you get Gilligan in West Virginia or
• 25:55
Speaker 2: any celebrity for that matter, you look at him and
• 25:57
Speaker 2: And they're a big deal, as you said, a big
• 25:59
Speaker 2: deal at first. But then after a while, they start
• 26:00
Speaker 2: talking about football and they start talking about their gardens
• 26:03
Speaker 2: and things of that nature. And he's just one of
• 26:05
Speaker 2: us at that point, right?
• 26:07
Speaker 10: I know. And that's what was so great about the
• 26:10
Speaker 10: whole thing and why he loved this state so much.
• 26:12
Speaker 10: Because not only is it physically and geographically beautiful, but
• 26:17
Speaker 10: it's so peaceful. We came here from Las Vegas during
• 26:22
Speaker 10: the first boom in Las Vegas. When I mean, we
• 26:26
Speaker 10: had a little house out in the middle of the
• 26:27
Speaker 10: desert in Las Vegas. And when I tell you in
• 26:30
Speaker 10: a five year period, we ended up the house looks
• 26:32
Speaker 10: like itself. Initially, we ended up in the middle of
• 26:35
Speaker 10: this gigantic neighborhood with houses above it. I'm not above us,
• 26:40
Speaker 10: but beside us, either side across behind everywhere. So when
• 26:45
Speaker 10: we came here, it was like, you know, we're on top.
• 26:48
Speaker 10: We were on top of the mountain. I still am peaceful, beautiful.
• 26:52
Speaker 10: The folks, the greatest folks, just really genuine, you know,
• 26:56
Speaker 10: nothing fake about West Virginians, which is what I love.
• 27:00
Speaker 2: What do you think, what do you attribute the success
• 27:05
Speaker 2: of Gilligan's Island to? Because, again, it was seen, the critics,
• 27:10
Speaker 2: you know, could be very harsh in those days, just
• 27:12
Speaker 2: like they are now. It was never really a favorite
• 27:14
Speaker 2: of the critics, but the people loved it. It was
• 27:17
Speaker 2: always highly rated. As you said, it's still playing in syndication.
• 27:20
Speaker 2: You can still catch the streaming episodes. There's Gilligan's Island reunions.
• 27:25
Speaker 2: There were several movies made after the fact. What do
• 27:27
Speaker 2: you attribute the success of the show to?
• 27:31
Speaker 10: Well, I will tell you exactly what Bob's answer was
• 27:34
Speaker 10: to that. And it was something I never really thought
• 27:37
Speaker 10: about initially, but so true. The show, first of all,
• 27:42
Speaker 10: who doesn't want to be on an island? It's beautiful.
• 27:45
Speaker 10: It's all gorgeous to look at. The cast was wonderful, obviously.
• 27:50
Speaker 10: Everybody in that cast was superb as human beings and
• 27:54
Speaker 10: as actors. But you can take that show, especially the
• 27:58
Speaker 10: color version, and when they colorize the first season, you
• 28:01
Speaker 10: could put it on right now and it is timeless.
• 28:04
Speaker 10: If nobody had ever seen it, didn't know what it was,
• 28:07
Speaker 10: there's no way to put it in a specific time period.
• 28:11
Speaker 10: You know, they're on an island, there are no cars,
• 28:13
Speaker 10: there are no telephones, there's no living room with 1950s furniture,
• 28:18
Speaker 10: 1960s cars parked out front. There's nothing to put it
• 28:22
Speaker 10: in any particular time period. So if you put it
• 28:24
Speaker 10: on the air today and people didn't know about the
• 28:28
Speaker 10: show like they do, but if they didn't, it would
• 28:32
Speaker 10: play just the same way. I can only think, and
• 28:34
Speaker 10: you might remember this, I can think of one episode
• 28:38
Speaker 10: that would put it in a particular time period. And
• 28:41
Speaker 10: there was an episode where the Mosquitoes, a rock group
• 28:45
Speaker 10: landed on the island. I can't remember how they landed.
• 28:48
Speaker 2: I was thinking the same thing because they were kind
• 28:51
Speaker 2: of a parody of the Beatles.
• 28:53
Speaker 10: They were absolutely a parody of the Beatles with the
• 28:55
Speaker 10: long hair and the bop tops and, and the kind
• 28:58
Speaker 10: of music they played. That would be the only episode
• 29:00
Speaker 10: that I can think of off the top of my
• 29:02
Speaker 10: head that would place that show in a particular time period.
• 29:06
Speaker 10: Other than that, you know, it's just adorable. Marianne, sexy
• 29:11
Speaker 10: ginger and, And, you know, the professor, it was kind
• 29:14
Speaker 10: of a representation of all the different parts of America.
• 29:20
Speaker 10: You know, the famous ones, the farm girl, the whole thing.
• 29:24
Speaker 10: So it was just a really wonderful show that has
• 29:28
Speaker 10: ended up being very timeless. And you could be able
• 29:30
Speaker 10: to watch it, I'm guessing, 10, 20, 50 years from now. Oh, yeah.
• 29:35
Speaker 10: It would still be able to play.
• 29:36
Speaker 2: It'll be out there. Andy Griffith will be out there.
• 29:39
Speaker 2: There's so many of those classic television shows. I love Lucy.
• 29:42
Speaker 2: They'll still be on somewhere. Now, I want to kind
• 29:44
Speaker 2: of fast forward to what you are doing. You mentioned
• 29:47
Speaker 2: that you've written books. You're still acting, and you're doing...
• 29:53
Speaker 2: What's life like for Dream of Denver today?
• 29:57
Speaker 10: I'll tell you, life has... You know how you go
• 29:59
Speaker 10: through seasons in your life where things are sometimes a
• 30:03
Speaker 10: little challenging? And I recently went through one of those seasons,
• 30:07
  Speaker 10: I don't know, back in 20, 24, the end of 20,
• 30:10
Speaker 10: 24 into 25. And then it's like ever since then,
• 30:14
Speaker 10: it's been nothing but miracles. My son is doing, our
• 30:17
Speaker 10: son that I talked about is doing so beautifully out
• 30:20
Speaker 10: in the world, going places, doing things. So that is
• 30:23
Speaker 10: number one with me. So exciting. But yes, I started
• 30:27
  Speaker 10: writing books in.
• 30:29
Speaker 10: Oh, my gosh, 2020, I guess, during I had my
• 30:32
Speaker 10: first children's book come out during the lockdown, actually. And
• 30:37
Speaker 10: I've written three children's books that are, I call it
• 30:41
Speaker 10: the Four Bears Trilogy. And the newest one just came
• 30:44
Speaker 10: out last month. And I love it because the four bears,
• 30:48
Speaker 10: if anybody is familiar with the book, there are four
• 30:52
Speaker 10: sibling bears that have great adventures together because of a
• 30:56
Speaker 10: magic spell. hardboard box that in their imagination can become anything.
• 31:00
Speaker 10: And in my newest book, it becomes a hot air
• 31:02
Speaker 10: balloon and they're flying through the air and they come to,
• 31:05
Speaker 10: they jolt to a stop because they get caught on
• 31:08
Speaker 10: top of the Washington monument. So they have to shimmy
• 31:12
Speaker 10: down the monument. When they get to the bottom, there's
• 31:14
Speaker 10: a baby boo is the youngest bear. He turns around
• 31:17
Speaker 10: to take off running and run smack into the legs
• 31:19
Speaker 10: of uncle Sam. Who's there with his nephew, Yankee doodle
• 31:24
Speaker 10: and Sam and doodle cake and the bears around Washington, D.C.,
• 31:29
Speaker 10: and show them all the reasons they should love their country,
• 31:33
Speaker 10: respect their flag, and honor their veterans. And I was
• 31:36
Speaker 10: so happy to write not only that subject matter for
• 31:39
Speaker 10: young people, actually it's a storybook with the most gorgeous illustrations,
• 31:44
Speaker 10: but also not only to write the book, but to
• 31:48
Speaker 10: be able to celebrate through that book the 250th birthday
• 31:51
Speaker 10: of this country, which I thought was So exciting and
• 31:55
Speaker 10: so much fun. It's a beautiful book. I'll have it
• 31:57
Speaker 10: with me in Charleston. I'll have all my books, the
• 31:59
Speaker 10: Four Bear books. I will have Gillian's Dreams, which is
• 32:02
Speaker 10: about my 30-year marriage to Bob. Then last year, I
• 32:05
Speaker 10: put out a book called I Went to Icon, which
• 32:08
Speaker 10: is like a photo album scrapbook of Bob and his career.
• 32:15
Speaker 10: It is a beautiful keepsake for any classic TV fan.
• 32:19
Speaker 10: There's just everything in his career that he ever did
• 32:23
Speaker 10: is in this book. through pictures and I write something
• 32:26
Speaker 10: for every chapter to, you know, explain what you're seeing.
• 32:28
Speaker 10: So that's really great. And yes, I've started acting again.
• 32:33
Speaker 10: I was in a movie, played the grandmother in a
• 32:37
Speaker 10: movie that we filmed in January. The movie is called Disconnected.
• 32:42
Speaker 10: It filmed here in Mercer County, GKG Productions, which is
• 32:46
Speaker 10: Kevin Sizemore and Gina Lombardi were the producers and we
• 32:51
Speaker 10: filmed it here and it was just accepted by into
• 32:54
Speaker 10: the Heartland International Film Festival in Indianapolis, and we'll have
• 32:59
Speaker 10: its world premiere there in October, on October the 15th, actually.
• 33:04
Speaker 10: So that is so exciting. It's the first big screen
• 33:08
Speaker 10: thing I've done that is going to be– shown at
• 33:11
Speaker 10: a film festival, which is so exciting. I can't believe it.
• 33:14
Speaker 2: Well, we're very happy for you. Before we let you go,
• 33:19
Speaker 2: we had a text. Somebody said that they haven't been
• 33:21
Speaker 2: to Princeton in a while, but they always turn it
• 33:23
Speaker 2: out a little buddy radio. Is it still broadcasting?
• 33:26
Speaker 10: It still is. It's there 22 years I've had that
• 33:30
Speaker 10: radio station. Bob and I had just started it when
• 33:34
Speaker 10: he was diagnosed and passed away. And so it's kind
• 33:37
Speaker 10: of been my baby all these years. And I'm, you know,
• 33:43
Speaker 10: it saved my life. Little Buddy Radio did. After he
• 33:46
Speaker 10: passed away, I was able to come home and try
• 33:49
Speaker 10: to keep that going, finish what we started and was
• 33:53
Speaker 10: able to do it. And, you know, we are renovating
• 33:55
Speaker 10: a theater here in Princeton called the Renaissance Theater. And
• 34:00
Speaker 10: in that theater is going to be the Bob Denver Museum.
• 34:03
  Speaker 6: Nice.
• 34:04
Speaker 10: And so when that happens, we don't have a date yet,
• 34:08
Speaker 10: but they're working together. feverishly on it. So when that happens,
• 34:12
Speaker 10: Little Buddy Radio will have a home in a tiki
• 34:15
  Speaker 10: hut inside.
• 34:16
Speaker 2: Of course it will. Of course it will. It'll have
• 34:21
Speaker 2: radios that look like coconuts, too. I mean, you've got
• 34:24
Speaker 2: to do the full thing. I've got to close it
• 34:26
Speaker 2: out here, but I want to ask you, we have
• 34:28
Speaker 2: this event at 4 o'clock on Monday at Capital Market.
• 34:32
Speaker 2: You and Kathy Garver and Julie McCullough are going to
• 34:33
Speaker 2: be there. What do you enjoy most about setting down?
• 34:36
Speaker 2: This is going to be a Q & A type thing.
• 34:38
Speaker 2: People can come in, they can do pictures, they can
• 34:40
Speaker 2: do selfies. You'll have your items if somebody would like
• 34:43
Speaker 2: to purchase your book. What do you enjoy most about
• 34:45
Speaker 2: these kind of events, Dreamer?
• 34:47
Speaker 10: You know, I love these events so much. I know
• 34:49
Speaker 10: there are some people who don't, but I love them. Honestly,
• 34:52
Speaker 10: it's going to sound cliche again, but I love meeting
• 34:54
Speaker 10: the people. And when people tell me how much they
• 34:57
Speaker 10: love Bob, how much they love the show, or how
• 35:00
Speaker 10: much they love my books, oh my gosh. And when somebody,
• 35:04
Speaker 10: being a children's author is such a special thing because
• 35:08
Speaker 10: I figure what I put out there is either going
• 35:10
Speaker 10: to make children love reading or hate reading. And so
• 35:15
Speaker 10: I feel a huge responsibility for that. So when somebody
• 35:19
Speaker 10: buys my book and says, I can't wait to cuddle
• 35:21
Speaker 10: up with my grandson tonight and read this with him,
• 35:25
Speaker 10: it does something to my heart. I'm telling you. So
• 35:27
Speaker 10: I love it for Bob because I have a lot
• 35:30
Speaker 10: of comfort still all these years later in hearing how
• 35:33
Speaker 10: much people loved him. And I love it for what
• 35:36
Speaker 10: I hope I'm putting out into the world for young people.
• 35:39
Speaker 10: So I love everything about it. We'll be there from
• 35:41
  Speaker 10: 4 to 6, and I hope a lot of people
• 35:43
Speaker 10: will come see it. It's Kathy Garber's. First visit to
• 35:47
  Speaker 10: West Virginia.
• 35:48
  Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
• 35:49
Speaker 10: I want West Virginia to show up and show out.
• 35:51
Speaker 2: Maybe she'll end up staying for 20 years like Bob did.
• 35:54
Speaker 2: You know, you never know.
• 35:56
  Speaker 10: I know.
• 35:57
  Speaker 5: It's true.
• 35:57
Speaker 10: All right. I just can't wait for her to get here.
• 36:00
Speaker 10: It's going to be a great time, everybody. So come
• 36:02
  Speaker 10: see us.
• 36:02
  Speaker 3: All right.
• 36:03
Speaker 2: And I will see you there on Monday. Starts at
• 36:05
Speaker 2: 4 o'clock at Capital Market Dream of Denver. It's always
• 36:08
Speaker 2: a pleasure to have you on the show. We'll talk soon.
• 36:09
Speaker 2: I'll see you Monday. Thanks a lot.
• 36:12
Speaker 10: Okay. Can't wait. See you then.
• 36:14
Speaker 2: Again, it's all happening Monday, Capital Market from 4 until 6.

Speaker 12: She really, really is.
• 39:58
Speaker 2: We had a text. Somebody wanted to know if Bob
• 40:00
Speaker 2: Denver was related to John Denver. Well, Bob Denver was
• 40:03
Speaker 2: his real name. John Denver's real name is Henry John,
• 40:07
Speaker 2: and I'm going to butcher this, Duchendorf. So they are
• 40:12
Speaker 2: not related because John Denver's real name was not John Denver.
• 40:16
Speaker 2: He could have been in radio. Nobody in radio uses
• 40:18
Speaker 2: their real names. But Bob Denver, that actually was, that

Speaker 4: walked us through the process of building our church from
• 43:33
Speaker 4: conceptualization to having a finished, fully functional building. When you build,
• 43:37
Speaker 4: there are always challenges, and you need a partner who
• 43:39
Speaker 4: will be present, take responsibility for the finished product, and
• 43:41
Speaker 4: effectively manage time and money. The team at Jarrett Construction
• 43:44
Speaker 4: was a godsend to us, and I'm excited to recommend
• 43:46
Speaker 4: them to other churches, businesses, or anyone needing a construction
• 43:50
Speaker 4: company they can trust.
• 43:51
  Speaker 2: License number WV030133.

Speaker 13: Why do so many West Virginians choose the Payton Law
• 43:57
Speaker 13: Firm after an injury? Because Tom and Harvey Payton are
• 44:00
Speaker 13: from here, and they fight for their neighbors every day.
• 44:03
Speaker 13: When you're dealing with an injury claim, you need experience,
• 44:06
Speaker 13: straight answers, and results you can trust. Don't let insurance
• 44:10
Speaker 13: companies or out-of-state firms push you around. Call 755-5556 or

Speaker 1: The attorneys referenced in this ad are lifelong residents and

Speaker 14: Hey, this is Bobbi Spry, and last year we purchased
• 44:27
Speaker 14: a new HVAC system from Best Virginia Heating and Cooling.
• 44:30
Speaker 14: During the inspection of our old unit, their technician discovered
• 44:33
Speaker 14: a crack in the heat exchanger that was slowly leaking
• 44:35
Speaker 14: carbon monoxide into our home. From that moment on, we
• 44:38
Speaker 14: knew we chose the best. The best technicians and the
• 44:42
Speaker 14: best service. Every technician is drug tested and background checked,
• 44:46
Speaker 14: giving our family peace of mind. When it comes to
• 44:49
Speaker 14: protecting your home and family, trust the best. Best Virginia

• 45:25
Speaker 2: Tony the Tailor Tax, 304-345-5858. 935-500. There was a fire
• 45:33
Speaker 2: in the city this morning. It happened around 3.30 a.m.
• 45:35
Speaker 2: in an apartment complex, the 200 block of Beauregard Street
• 45:38
Speaker 2: over on the east side. Four apartments in the building,
• 45:43
Speaker 2: three I think were occupied. They say it started in
• 45:45
Speaker 2: an attic. Heavy damage, apparently no human injuries, but we
• 45:50
Speaker 2: are told that a couple of pets perished in that.
• 45:52
Speaker 2: The investigation continues. We talked a little bit about this
• 45:56
Speaker 2: yesterday on Midday, and I know it's a fur piece,
• 46:00
Speaker 2: as we would say in southern West Virginia from our area,
• 46:03
Speaker 2: but I'm going to take you quickly to the 91st
• 46:05
Speaker 2: Delegate District in this race. In the general election, Republican
• 46:09
Speaker 2: candidate Chris Claggett is running for a seat out of
• 46:13
Speaker 2: Berkeley County. Social media comments attributed to Mr. Claggett are
• 46:20
Speaker 2: pretty bad. And Democrats, many, are calling for Claggett to
• 46:24
Speaker 2: drop out of the race. Now, a quote from Claggett
• 46:27
Speaker 2: from X, maybe because black women are the most ill-mannered, ill-behaved,
• 46:32
Speaker 2: loudmouthed demographics on the face of the earth.
• 46:37
Speaker 2: He also had praise for the Confederate flag. Then he
• 46:41
Speaker 2: went on the radio up there and tried to defend it,
• 46:45
Speaker 2: but ended up making it a whole lot worse, saying, well,
• 46:48
Speaker 2: what I was referring to was liberal black women. Speaker
• 46:52
Speaker 2: Hanshaw was on talk line yesterday, basically condemning the comments,
• 46:56
Speaker 2: but did not call for him to drop out of
• 46:58
Speaker 2: the race. State Democratic Party Chair and Delegate Mike Pushkin
• 47:01
Speaker 2: was on with us on midday. He, of course, and
• 47:03
Speaker 2: the State Democratic Party issued a statement calling for Claggett
• 47:06
Speaker 2: to drop out of the race and calling on other
• 47:08
Speaker 2: Republicans to call him out on the comments. So it
• 47:16
Speaker 2: will be interesting to see what happens. He does have
• 47:19
Speaker 2: an opposition, an opponent, I should say, on the Democrat side.
• 47:23
Speaker 2: But look, First Amendment, I'm the ultimate First Amendment guy.
• 47:27
  Speaker 11: You know that.
• 47:29
Speaker 2: But it doesn't come without consequences. And you can't think
• 47:32
Speaker 2: that you're going to put those comments out there and
• 47:36
Speaker 2: there's not going to be some blowback. Just saying. So
• 47:41
Speaker 2: on a personal note, I turned 56 today. 56 sounds old.
• 47:49
Speaker 2: What a year that 55 was. Diagnosed with cancer. Went
• 47:54
Speaker 2: through the fun of radiation treatments. Hopefully... Eventually, I'll get
• 47:59
Speaker 2: use of my legs back fully again because I sold somebody.
• 48:03
Speaker 2: This was the year I was going to start running marathons.
• 48:06
Speaker 2: And now because my legs don't work, basically, now they work.
• 48:10
  Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not like in a wheelchair. I'm just
• 48:12
Speaker 2: saying they're a little weak at times. So I got that.
• 48:15
Speaker 2: I was informed earlier this year that next month I
• 48:18
Speaker 2: will be going into West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
• 48:21
Speaker 2: We entered year two of Metro News Midday, year six
• 48:26
Speaker 2: of this show. And I guess my realization is, turning
• 48:31
Speaker 2: 56 today, is I really need to do a better
• 48:33
Speaker 2: job of asking more places if they do discounts for
• 48:37
Speaker 2: those 55 and older. Because I don't do that. And
• 48:40
Speaker 2: so many do. And it's easy. I just got to
• 48:44
Speaker 2: remember to ask. But I've had a lot of birthday
• 48:47
Speaker 2: wishes and texts, social media, people texting the show, calling
• 48:50
Speaker 2: me so-and-so. I do appreciate it. My friend Melanie Palero
• 48:54
Speaker 2: went the full way. distance and brought us, for all
• 48:57
Speaker 2: the staff, some hot dogs from Spring Hill Pastry. So
• 49:01
Speaker 2: we appreciate her for that. So thank you for all
• 49:05
Speaker 2: the birthday wishes. Also, I would be remiss if I
• 49:08
Speaker 2: didn't also wish a happy birthday to one of my
• 49:13
Speaker 2: broadcasting buddies, Kid Conley, who is two hours older than
• 49:19
Speaker 2: I am. You can hear him in the Charleston market.
• 49:22
Speaker 2: He's two hours older than I am. And we were
• 49:26
Speaker 2: born on the same day in the same year. Oh,
• 49:29
Speaker 2: my goodness. Look who's here. It's Amanda Barron. Amanda Barron
• 49:37
Speaker 2: just showed up here. I mean, with a giant blue bag.
• 49:40
Speaker 2: What is in this blue bag, kid?
• 49:43
Speaker 8: I mean, it's your birthday. You know exactly what it is.
• 49:44
  Speaker 2: Meat and cheese.
• 49:45
  Speaker 10: Yeah.
• 49:47
Speaker 2: I get the same thing every year when she asks.
• 49:50
  Speaker 9: Me like that.
• 49:50
Speaker 12: It's better this year, though.
• 49:52
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 49:52
  Speaker 10: Check it out.
• 49:53
Speaker 2: Well, I'm on the air. I mean, TJ Talk or something.
• 49:58
Speaker 2: If ever there were a man.
• 49:59
  Speaker 8: You know what?
• 49:59
Speaker 7: If ever I knew how to host a show, go ahead.
• 50:02
Speaker 11: If ever there were a man, though, that loves fine
• 50:05
Speaker 11: meats and cheeses, I mean, it's this guy. I went
• 50:08
Speaker 11: in the break room this morning in the green room.
• 50:10
Speaker 11: There were the hot dogs from Spring Hill Pastry and
• 50:12
Speaker 11: all these wonderful things. And I knew something else was there.
• 50:15
Speaker 2: And I moved stuff around. Right there it was. Meats
• 50:17
Speaker 2: and cheeses. And now more meats and cheeses.
• 50:19
Speaker 8: Did someone bring a charcuterie board?
• 50:21
Speaker 11: No, it was just one of those deals you pick
• 50:23
Speaker 11: up at the store. I don't know that I could
• 50:25
Speaker 11: even get into this thing. I mean, it's impressive. I mean,
• 50:28
Speaker 11: we're talking what? Is that like a foot tall by like?
• 50:31
Speaker 11: foot wide like a square i don't know cooler full
• 50:34
Speaker 11: of meats and oh my goodness wrapped okay i mean
• 50:39
  Speaker 11: i'm like less nestman i don't know if i can
• 50:40
Speaker 11: take all the anticipation here with this.
• 50:44
Speaker 2: This is just wonderful this would be great if it was.
• 50:48
Speaker 9: On camera anyways tj you did a great job what's
• 50:52
Speaker 9: coming up on top i got triscuits i got triscuits
• 50:55
Speaker 9: i love triscuits Anyway, what's coming.
• 50:57
  Speaker 2: Up on TalkLine?
• 50:58
Speaker 11: Oh, what's coming up on TalkLine? So we're going to
• 51:00
Speaker 11: get into this issue that's happening in the 91st. What
• 51:03
Speaker 11: I just was referring to. You're referring to. We're going
• 51:04
Speaker 11: to talk it out. Wilson and I will bat it around.
• 51:06
Speaker 11: We both have thoughts on it. I was reading last night,
• 51:10
Speaker 11: AOC may want to run for president, she told the
• 51:12
Speaker 11: New York Times. I think we're going to get into
• 51:14
Speaker 11: that today, potentially. There's also this idea, should the State
• 51:18
Speaker 11: Board of Education have control over education in West Virginia?
• 51:21
Speaker 11: You know, not a novel concept. The Constitution says they
• 51:24
Speaker 11: should have it. Yet, There's a Supreme Court case saying
• 51:26
Speaker 11: the legislature wants more control. We'll bat that around and
• 51:28
Speaker 11: a whole lot more. I want to know more about
• 51:30
Speaker 11: the meats and cheeses. Well, I can't really get to
• 51:32
Speaker 11: it when I'm on the air. Okay. All right.
• 51:35
Speaker 7: We're looking for... Okay, so today.
• 51:36
  Speaker 1: There's cheese.
• 51:37
Speaker 2: There's cheese. There's lots of cheese. There's lots of meats.
• 51:40
  Speaker 9: You'll be secure.
• 51:41
Speaker 7: Dave provides me with lunch basically every day, you know, so...
• 51:45
Speaker 7: Today I'm returning the Triscuit, babe.
• 51:47
Speaker 11: That ought to get him until about noon tomorrow, I
• 51:50
  Speaker 11: would say.
• 51:51
Speaker 2: Yes, that's why I take the high blood pressure pill
• 51:53
Speaker 2: right there for this very thing. Well, buddy, happy birthday.
• 51:55
Speaker 2: I mean, seriously, happy birthday. I appreciate it very much.
• 51:58
  Speaker 10: All right.
• 51:58
Speaker 2: And happy birthday to the boss, Bruce Springsteen, who's also
• 52:01
Speaker 2: celebrating his birthday today. Jason Alexander from Seinfeld. Share a
• 52:04
Speaker 2: birthday with all those, in addition to Kid Connick. All right,
• 52:07
Speaker 2: Ryan Nicholson, our producer, thank you so much. I'll see
• 52:09
Speaker 2: you later today on Metro News, Midday 13 News. And tonight,
• 52:11

• 52:14
Speaker 2: up with a talk line on many of these same
• 52:16
Speaker 2: Metro news stations, including this one. Why did I just
• 52:18
  Speaker 2: say that?
• 52:19
  Speaker 6: Because I'm 56!
• 52:20
Speaker 2: Have fun. Love somebody.
• 52:37
Speaker 1: WVRC Media Station. We're proud to live here too.
