- 0:38talk about the Whiskey Walk in a minute. But Jimmy
- 0:41we Wine Academy of Utah dot com is where all
- 0:45of that mercy is shown.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Uh.
- 0:48Speaker 4: The So the people down at Clearwater Distilling in Le Leon, Lehigh,
- 0:54Pleasant Grow, Pleasant Grow adjacent to Lehigh. They they've done
- 0:59something new with their cinnamon whiskey.
- 1:01Speaker 5: Yeah, so the the popular scandalous that they use. They
- 1:06change the label to Canela and it's really great, sexy label. Great. Uh,
- 1:11same great whiskey. Just change the packaging for us, and uh,
- 1:16what I love about this cinnamon whiskey is there's no
- 1:19sugar added. It's not like a corn fruit toast based
- 1:22flavoring in it. So you got real cinnamon sticks that
- 1:25this whiskey is aging in and no sugar, no additives,
- 1:30and it's a cinnamon all day the time.
- 1:34Speaker 2: You use it in a hot apple cider, then it's
- 1:37not too sweet.
- 1:38Speaker 4: It just canela is a is a kind of cinnamon,
- 1:42isn't it?
- 1:42Speaker 5: Or I believe it is. It's well cinnamon and Spanish,
- 1:47and they've they've got I was looking at their website
- 1:50so I have a lot of fun with clear Water
- 1:53other range of spirits when in fact, this Sunday we're
- 1:56having our Cigar and Spirits tasting, so if you're interested
- 1:59in that at Clearwater two o'clock, we've got a ninety
- 2:03minute presentation on etiquette smoking as well as we craft
- 2:06cocktails from I think we're using their Wednesday Whiskey Batch
- 2:11number two. But but this cinnamon whiskey that's Candalius. I've
- 2:14made cocktails with this before and they've done a really
- 2:18fun job on their website. They're doing a churo shot.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Let's hear this.
- 2:30Speaker 5: Uh this is the Oh I like what they did here.
- 2:33So the cinnamon whiskey that we're talking about. Then their
- 2:36lorenz rum, so you're getting a little bit of a
- 2:39roundness going on there, and then horchata. Yes, finally right,
- 2:46shake a shake of shake. Oh that sounds that sounds
- 2:49like good Sunday morning right there.
- 2:51Speaker 4: That sounds like it would be good warm as well
- 2:54as gold.
- 2:54Speaker 5: Yeah you could. Yeah, yeah, the id like the cinnamon whiskey. Also,
- 3:00we've done it with the unfiltered apple juice. I like
- 3:04getting it like whole foods. You know, it's that kind component. Yeah,
- 3:08good stuff, and that cinnamon whiskey goes good with it too.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I just looked up what is Mexican canela? The cinnamon
- 3:15mostly used in Mexican cuisine is called ceylon or canela
- 3:18in Spanish, and it is also known as true cinnamon.
- 3:22It is quite different from cassia, which is mostly found
- 3:25in US stores. However, as time moves on, one can
- 3:27find true cinnamon in an increasing number of stores. So
- 3:31canela is true cinema.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Well, when we had this before, we tried it, and
- 3:37that's what I liked about it was that it wasn't
- 3:39so sickeningly sweet. Yeah, where you get some of these
- 3:42cinnamon whiskeys like if your fireball and stuff like that.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Ye're a little too sweet. They got that it is.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Yeah, they do a good job with it, just the
- 3:50right mix. Yeah that sounds like a good one for sure.
- 3:56But you know it's nice.
- 3:57Speaker 6: To be able to use, especially with the I mean,
- 4:00this is just fall flavors coming out, right, So this
- 4:04is gonna make spice up a classic Manhattan for you.
- 4:07Speaker 5: You're gonna be able to have a whiskey on the
- 4:11rocks or maybe a little bit of bitters with it.
- 4:13I mean, this is gonna be a fun a fun
- 4:15spirit for this next holiday season. I reckon it's twenty
- 4:18nine to ninety nine, so it's completely affordable. It's a
- 4:20thirty dollars bottle of whiskey, the Canal, the Cinnamon Whiskey Clearwater.
- 4:24Speaker 4: It's only at Clearwater though, right.
- 4:26Speaker 5: This labels at Clearwater. It's still listed under the scandalist
- 4:31label through the wine stores. So as soon as we
- 4:33start running through that inventory, then this will this will
- 4:37replace replace it now much nicer.
- 4:40Speaker 4: All right, Let's see Wine Academy of Utah events coming up.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Yeah, this Sunday, I'll be at Clearwater for that cigar
- 4:50and tasting. We also have I got a couple of
- 4:53coming up Monday night, a Scotch for the sophisticate. This
- 4:56is through lifelong learning. It's five different am over at
- 5:01the BEEHIVEH Distillery. That's where it's hosted.
- 5:03Speaker 4: So if it's for the sophisticate, that means not just
- 5:06anybody can.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Yes, sorry, Bill, you can't.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I wouldn't go to Yes you play when you played jazz?
- 5:13Will you play jazz music in the background?
- 5:16Speaker 1: Where are your velvet smoking jacket immediately or a sport
- 5:21coat with the.

- 5:42Speaker 1: But of course tomorrow tomorrow is our Whiskey and Walking
- 5:46History tour.
- 5:47Speaker 2: It's sold out, but I think just seems like it
- 5:49was super popular, so we might talk to you about
- 5:52doing another one.
- 5:53Speaker 5: Yeah, let's do it. Let's do it, but it ends
- 5:55at the Ruin. You have Ruined bar on Main Street
- 5:58in Salt Lake. So if you wanted to swing by, oh,
- 6:01not a bad idea swing by the Ruin.

- 6:20Speaker 5: That sounds like a fantastic I am.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Yep. So we'll all meet you at the Ruin at
- 6:26about four four thirty, all right, something like that.
- 6:28Speaker 5: I'll fantastic.
- 6:29Speaker 4: And yeah, if you if you want to join us,
- 6:31join us, all right.
- 6:32Speaker 2: And the radio from Hew Whiskey Tour. It is sold
- 6:35out with Jimmy the wine Guy. But we want to
- 6:37thank High West Distillery and Sugarhouse Distillery, and Jimmy's gonna
- 6:40tell us some more about their lovely offerings right now.
- 6:43Speaker 4: And if you have any questions for the magnanimous and
- 6:47beneficitent leader of the Wine Academy of U Dah, you
- 6:51can call us James Santangelo is here. Uh, you want
- 6:55to talk about these two?
- 6:56Speaker 5: Yeah, we have our two sponsors for the event tomorrow,
- 7:00Sugarhouse Distillery and High West. The Sugarhouse will take them
- 7:03one at a time. Sugarhouse was the first one I poured.
- 7:06Sugarhouse this is their American single malt. Now this is
- 7:09kind of a newer category in American whiskey. This is
- 7:12whenever you see the words American single malt or malt
- 7:17in on the labeling, that's gonna be barley grain and
- 7:21and barley's the primary grain we make Scotch outa, so
- 7:24this is kind of made in the tradition of a Scotch.
- 7:27We're malting the barley, but then we're aging for a
- 7:31number of years in brand new American oak barrels. I
- 7:34can put up to the camera. Look at the color
- 7:36that's extracted on this. You need years in a barrel
- 7:41in Scotland to get this kind of depth of color.
- 7:45This whiskey comes across on the on the nose, a
- 7:49lot of grain, a lot of biscuit. It's a lot
- 7:52of cereal, a lot of what biscuit biscuit, Uh, think
- 7:57of a bisc off cookie, you know, and it's just rarely.
- 8:02I was doing a tasting last night, a private gig,
- 8:04and people were blown away by the maltiness that was
- 8:08coming off of this.
- 8:09Speaker 4: This would go good with a bisc.
- 8:13Speaker 5: It certainly would. They're doing a fine job down there
- 8:16at Sugarhouse. They're there bourbon, their rye, their can cocktail program,
- 8:20and of course this American single malt available in the
- 8:23wine stores. Of course they do have a package store
- 8:25at the distillery. This Sugarhouse Distillery forty two forty two
- 8:30I don't want to miss quote forty forty six percent
- 8:33alcohol by volume or ninety two proof.
- 8:36Speaker 4: All right, that's the first one.
- 8:37Speaker 5: The next one is high West. This is their campfire.
- 8:41So this is a party.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Smell it right when, Yeah, it smells.
- 8:44Speaker 5: Like a camp It gets right to the nose. So
- 8:47this is a blend of you know, quintessential bourbon and rye.
- 8:51And then you get the smoky peatiness from another blend
- 8:55of whiskey that has pete in it. And nobody was
- 8:58really nobody does that. You know, nobody takes American whiskeys,
- 9:02blends it and gets it. And this is just such
- 9:04a fine job of doing that. There are whiskeys out
- 9:08there that do have peat to them that are smoked.
- 9:10But this High West campfire whiskey, I think just says
- 9:13it all in the name. When're you gonna have this
- 9:15around a campfire?
- 9:16Speaker 3: Now?
- 9:17Speaker 5: This is a sipper great and cocktails, and I haven't
- 9:21revisited them.
- 9:22Speaker 4: I think i'd want that on the rocks. I'd want
- 9:24an ice cube in that. It's the first time I
- 9:28ever had. This was some years ago, and it's it's
- 9:31changed in its flavor profile.
- 9:34Speaker 5: Isn't it softened up a little bit? Yeah, it softened
- 9:36up a little bit. I've got some bottlings in the
- 9:39office from years back that I think if when next
- 9:43time you're over, we can sample them. And this is
- 9:46batch number twenty four E twenty eight. So there's a
- 9:50code there with the batch numbers, right, there's a code.
- 9:53It's alpha in America's numbers and letters. But the twenty
- 9:56four is the year. So a batch is when that
- 9:59whiskey was married, blended and then put into this bottle.
- 10:02So it was put into this bottle. The batch date
- 10:04is twenty four, twenty twenty four. He represents the month,
- 10:07so A for January, B for fevour, and then the
- 10:09day the twenty eighth.
- 10:11Speaker 3: So what is that?
- 10:13Speaker 2: What is.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Maybe May? Good job your fingers? So yeah, I use
- 10:22my fingers at the college. You can see May.
- 10:27Speaker 5: But that's fun. That's just fun things about on High West.
- 10:31Here are two sponsors for the whiskey tour tomorrow. It's
- 10:35gonna be a lot of fun.
- 10:36Speaker 4: It's gonna be great. Let's see. We got some questions,
- 10:38I know, and we got a couple.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll take we take phone calls to.
- 10:44Speaker 4: If you hurry.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Let's see. How is the cigar selection at clear Water
- 10:48for your.
- 10:48Speaker 5: Old pretty good? You know they have a human door
- 10:51they built it in in the corner there and educated
- 10:54walk in. That's right. Uh and uh they have your
- 10:59selection from Connecticut wraps all the way up to Maduro's
- 11:01and some of the classic producers.
- 11:03Speaker 4: All right they you know they call like in the
- 11:05Mavericks and stuff. That's the beer gave. We call it
- 11:08the cigar cave.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Like what are your go to lights? Jamaican, Puerto Rican
- 11:13and overproofed RUMs, overproof.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Class so Smith and Cross you'll have that there, Habana
- 11:23Club from Cuba, you have that in the States stores?
- 11:29Oh where was I I saw a I can't think
- 11:33of it right now. But those are my tote to go.
- 11:35Speaker 2: To for sure.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Overproof just means high proof.
- 11:37Speaker 5: Yeah, higher proof than forty Yeah.
- 11:39Speaker 4: And finally this, I'm forty five. I've never had any alcohol.
- 11:44Speaker 2: We gave this question a lot, but it's worse for visit,
- 11:46good for you.
- 11:47Speaker 1: But after recent events, I'm considering starting. What's something that's
- 11:51not too heavy that an amateur like me can enjoy?
- 11:54Speaker 5: All Yeah, so in the wine world, something soft and bubbly,
- 11:59maybe a little bit of off dryness to make it approachable.
- 12:02These are your Moscato diastes. Those are a lot of
- 12:05fun and uh they'll have a little fizz to it.
- 12:09It's carbonated, it's bubbly. It's a sparkling wine category, but
- 12:13it's off dry and it's lower alcohol. So moscato diasti.
- 12:19Speaker 4: There you go, all right?
- 12:20Speaker 1: Uh, well, we'll see you tomorrow, Jimmy, this is exciting
- 12:22if you know, the tickets are sold out for the tour,
- 12:26but you could, you know, join Bill at our final destination,
- 12:30the room.
- 12:30Speaker 5: That'd be great.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:35Speaker 5: Jenny, for the weather, I think we might have some
- 12:37weather tomorrow, little bit. Yeah, yeah, so dress for the weather.
