- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here and it is Thursday.
- 0:15It is the 3rd of August and you have clicked on play and I am
- 0:21here. Your magic Bible reading Genie
- 0:24in your phone or your computer or your iPad or whatever it is
- 0:27that you're listening on. And we are going to continue to
- 0:30read another chapter of Isaiah. And if you thought that God,
- 0:35well, it was pretty easy on Moab, it kind of went for a not
- 0:38very long. Today we continue to hear God's
- 0:41judgment on Moab, but God's judgment is a special kind of
- 0:46thing. It isn't just God declaring his
- 0:48wrath against the nation, but it's God saying this is what you
- 0:51have done and This is why you are having this, this outcome.
- 0:55And this is how I will restore you or my people will be
- 0:58restored. And this is how it breaks my
- 1:00heart to do this just beautiful stuff.
- 1:05Thank you Isaiah, for communicating this all these
- 1:08years ago that we can still continue to learn more about the
- 1:12nature of God as we read this together.
- 1:15So let's do it, shall we? Let us continue reading as we
- 1:18read together today. Isaiah chapter 16.
- 1:32Send for lambs from cellar as tribute to the ruler of the
- 1:37land. Send them through the desert to
- 1:39the mountain of beautiful Zion. The women of Moab are left like
- 1:44homeless birds at a shallow crossing of the Annon river.
- 1:49Help us, they cry. Defend us against our enemies.
- 1:53Protect us from their relentless attack.
- 1:56Do not betray us. Now that we have escaped, let
- 1:59our refugees stay among you. Hide them from our enemies until
- 2:03the terror is passed. When oppression and destruction
- 2:07have ended and enemy Raiders have disappeared, then God will
- 2:12establish one of David's descendants as king.
- 2:15He will rule with mercy and truth.
- 2:18He will always do what is just and be eager to do what is
- 2:22right. We have heard about proud Moab,
- 2:26about its pride and arrogance and rage.
- 2:30But all that boasting has disappeared.
- 2:33The entire land of Moab weeps. Yes, everyone in Moab mourns for
- 2:39the cakes of raisins from Kerr Harissaff.
- 2:43They are all gone now. The farms of Heshbon are
- 2:46abandoned. The vineyards of Sigma are
- 2:49deserted. The rulers of the nations have
- 2:52broken down. Moab, that beautiful Grapevine.
- 2:56Its tendrils spread north as far as the town of Jesa, and trailed
- 3:01eastward into the wilderness, its shoots reached so far West
- 3:07that they crossed over the Dead Sea.
- 3:10So now I weep for Jesa and the vineyards of Shibma.
- 3:15My tears will flow for Heshbon and Aleala.
- 3:19There are no more shouts of joy over your summer fruits and
- 3:22harvest. Gone now is the gladness.
- 3:26Gone the joy of harvest. There will be no singing in the
- 3:30vineyards. No more happy shouts, no
- 3:33treading of grapes and the wine presses.
- 3:36I have ended all their harvest joys.
- 3:40My heart's cry for Moab is like a lament on a harp.
- 3:44I'm filled with anguish for Kehara Seth.
- 3:48The people of Moab will worship at their Pagan shrines, but it
- 3:52will do them no good. They will cry to the gods in
- 3:55their temples, but no one will be able to save them.
- 4:00The Lord has already said these things about Moab in the past.
- 4:04But now the Lord says within three years, counting each day,
- 4:10the glory of Moab will be ended from its great population.
- 4:15Only a feeble few will be left alive.
- 4:27You are a great big God with such a heart for us, and we just
- 4:35thank you that today, as we walk the streets and the offices and
- 4:40the schools of this world, you walk beside us.
- 4:45Because not only do you keep the sweep of history and nations
- 4:49firmly in your focus, but right in our daily struggles you are
- 4:56present too. Thank you for your intimate love
- 5:00and knowledge of us in everything that we do today.
- 5:05Help us know that we are never abandoned and that you reside
- 5:10not just close to us, but inside us, in your spirit, dwelling in
- 5:15our hearts. Thank you.
- 5:18Thank you for this lavish, lavish gift of your presence.
- 5:23May we always be aware of you. We just love you and thank you,
- 5:29and it's in your name we pray. Jesus, oh man.
