- 0:25Music. Live from the banks of the Sheet
- 0:29Tucket River in the heart of downtown Norwich.
- 0:31It's revolutionary talk here on WREV. 760 AM where patriots
- 0:37talk. The phone and text number is
- 0:39209565. Dave.
- 0:43That's 209-565-3283. Now here's your host, Dave
- 0:47Diamond. I don't know where to begin.
- 0:59The insult, not just to the general but to us right here in
- 1:04Norwich is almost unbearable. I don't know who these idiots in
- 1:09Congress think they are, but for God's sakes, you've gone well.
- 1:17I'd say not too far, but not far enough.
- 1:19But you, you've gone too far. These lunatics down there are
- 1:23ruining things again. We got one general in this army.
- 1:27I'm Dave. It's, it's revolutionary talk
- 1:30here on WREVAM 760 Narch. Glad you're with us today.
- 1:35You can join me 209565, Dave. That's 209-565-3283.
- 1:39You can e-mail me at dave@powder2parchment.org.
- 1:45That's powderthe#2parchment.org. Check us out online as well.
- 1:51There too. I, I I can't even begin to tell
- 1:53you how angry I am. Benedict Arnold, our own general
- 1:59from right here, right down the street here in Narch, He's one
- 2:03of us. He is America's only real
- 2:11fighting general right now. He's the only one that has any
- 2:14kind of success he can hang his hat on.
- 2:15What the Hell's Washington done, huh?
- 2:20Oh, I get it. He's got the experience and he's
- 2:22got the the backing of Congress and he makes the decisions and
- 2:25all that. But what's he done?
- 2:26All he's done is run an army into the ground.
- 2:31We got no powder. What have they?
- 2:33What have they done in Boston? Just sit there.
- 2:37Benedict Arnold's been out fighting.
- 2:38He's been out leading men into the trenches, into the into the
- 2:42into the thickets of things. Do I have to remind you that it
- 2:46was General Arnold's idea to go to Ticonderoga?
- 2:49The cannons that are pointed at Boston right now are only there
- 2:53because of Benedict Arnold. They're only there because of
- 2:58our troops and our leader who went and got them.
- 3:03Benedict Arnold has done more for this country, more for this
- 3:05colony than anybody else you can name in this war.
- 3:10There's no one to even compare to him.
- 3:15This man fights. He's been a leader.
- 3:18He's been been someone out there who has taken on everything that
- 3:23that that that needed to be taken on.
- 3:27And the idea that this kind of stuff should be happening now.
- 3:38Without Benedict Arnold, where would where would we be right
- 3:40now? We wouldn't, we wouldn't be
- 3:42besieging Boston, I can tell you that.
- 3:47And how, how hard did he have to work to get the Massachusetts
- 3:50Committee of Safety, Massachusetts?
- 3:55How hard did he have to work to get them to convince him, to
- 3:58convince them to let him go get those cannons?
- 4:00But it took forever and then you get all the way up there and
- 4:03Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain boys are already up
- 4:07there and and decide to take all the glory.
- 4:12Even after they decided to share the command.
- 4:15Ethan Allen goes out, takes all the glory for it.
- 4:17Arnold storms through the gates with his men, confronts the
- 4:20British officers there. Without even a shot, they take
- 4:24Ticonderoga. Within a couple of days, they
- 4:27take Crown Point as well. Yeah, it took a while to get him
- 4:32down here to Boston. We understand that.
- 4:33But it's Arnold foresight that made that possible.
- 4:36It's Benedict Arnold who did that.
- 4:38Norwich's own Benedict Arnold. And yet somehow or another
- 4:44Congress wants to fete Ethan Allen.
- 4:48Oh, he's the guy. He's the one who did it.
- 4:52They made it seem like Arnold wasn't even there.
- 4:55Might as well not even have bothered.
- 4:56Very man who had spotted the opportunity, carried it through
- 4:59to the to the very end. The man who came up with this
- 5:02idea, the man who who made it happen.
- 5:06And they basically just blew him off.
- 5:11Oh, and then they decided to question his expense accounts.
- 5:15They said, well, you didn't spend that much money.
- 5:20You know, it's not like he was asking for the world here.
- 5:27General Washington keeps a Ledger.
- 5:28Why shouldn't General Arnold keep what?
- 5:33Anyway, it was Benedict Arnold that came up with that idea.
- 5:36It was Benedict Arnold who did all of that for us.
- 5:40And now we're sitting here going, no, it was Ethan Allen.
- 5:46No, I, I, I'm not sure why our, our delegation is allowing this
- 5:50to happen down there. Not sure what's going on.
- 5:57I do know this. That's not the kind of thing
- 6:00that ought to be happening. It's not the kind of thing that
- 6:03we should be standing for. It's not the kind of thing that
- 6:07anybody would tolerate here. And yet here we are putting up
- 6:13with it. Why are we putting up with it?
- 6:14Because we're outnumbered by bigger states, bigger
- 6:20delegations. General Arnold was, by the way,
- 6:24not reimbursed for his expenses, expenses that came out of his
- 6:28pocket. And then they decided, why would
- 6:32we promote him? They said he exaggerated his own
- 6:36role. The man whose very idea this
- 6:41was, the man who led those troops up there, threw all that
- 6:43crap, and they decide that he's that good enough for them and
- 6:48they push him aside and give Ethan Allen all these, all these
- 6:52glories and all these things here.
- 6:55It was an insult to Brigadier General Arnold and it should be
- 6:58an insult to us right here at Narch.
- 6:59A lesser man would have gone home.
- 7:02A lesser man would have quit. A lesser man would have said,
- 7:04you know what, you know what I mean, fine, but not General
- 7:08Arnold. General Arnold hitched up his
- 7:14britches, put on his big boy britches and went down to
- 7:17Cambridge to meet with General Washington couple of months ago.
- 7:22Do you know this? Congress in their infinite
- 7:26genius, has decided that we need to invade Canada.
- 7:30The reasons we need to invade Canada should be pretty obvious.
- 7:34I mean, what's there? 70,000 people up there and they
- 7:39could be our allies, I guess. So the idea is we go up, take,
- 7:46take Montreal, take Quebec, and then everything will be fine,
- 7:49right. But they're, they're not sending
- 7:55General Arnold, the man who already knows his way around up
- 7:59there anyway. Benedict Arnold went over to to
- 8:06Cambridge to meet with Washington and came up with the
- 8:11idea of marching through Maine. They're going to go up through,
- 8:14I shouldn't tell you this, it's going to be in the papers
- 8:16tomorrow anyway. But he's, he's going through
- 8:18Maine, northern Massachusetts, going up there on his way to to
- 8:26Quebec. Of course, they had to buy a
- 8:29bunch of boats and stuff. And you know, I mean, again,
- 8:34General Arnold already paid for a bunch of this crap out of his
- 8:36own pockets. You know how hard it was to get
- 8:38all this stuff to organized for, to doing all this.
- 8:43And yet despite all of that, despite the fact that he has
- 8:45been insulted over and over again, despite the fact that
- 8:48he's been ridiculed, despite the fact that he has been lied
- 8:51about, despite the fact that he is the only fighting general
- 8:54this nation has the insults that have been thrown his way.
- 9:01He didn't quit. He's still up there, still
- 9:05leading this thing, and God bless him for that.
- 9:12Come take your news brew and 1 cup strong coffee, stronger
- 9:17opinions and no loyalists allowed past the hearth.
- 9:20Missus Tuttle's Coffee house right down here on Nards Green.
- 9:22I in there all the time myself. Where rebellion tastes like
- 9:26roasted beans and liberty is stirred with cream and sugar.
- 9:35That's Missus Tuttle's Patriot coffee house.
- 9:38Nards Green right here. We'll be right back.
- 9:46Welcome back to me, Dave. Revolutionary talk right here on
- 9:50WREV 760 AM Narch. Look there, General, General
- 9:59Arnold has this organized man. He is, he's got bateaus.
- 10:02Those are those little flat bottom boats, the French shoes
- 10:07and and he's got supplies. He's headed up the Kennebec
- 10:11River right now. Talked to one of them yesterday,
- 10:14one of his leading, one of his majors yesterday.
- 10:17Spirits are very high. I, I don't want to promise you
- 10:22anything because you know, it's wartime.
- 10:24Who knows what what happens, but it could, this could actually be
- 10:30a very good thing. It could be a very quick thing.
- 10:33We could conquer Canada very quickly.
- 10:36We did it in seven in, in the Seven Years War.
- 10:39Why should it take any longer now?
- 10:40There's not any more people there now.
- 10:43Most of them are French. They hate the English anyway.
- 10:46It'd be on our side. They'd be good allies and we can
- 10:49control the whole. The whole Saint Lawrence Valley
- 10:53would work out for us anyway. Spirits are very high in the
- 10:55army right now, and I think one of the things they really like
- 10:58is that unlike some other generals I could name, General
- 11:04Arnold is right there in the thick of things.
- 11:06He's right in there with the men.
- 11:08They keep telling me over and over again.
- 11:09I keep getting messages from from folks.
- 11:12He's right here with us. He's a leader.
- 11:15He's a man we will follow to the end of the earth.
- 11:20I I know it's early. I know things, you know, you
- 11:23can't guarantee anything. But look, boldness is is in the
- 11:28air. And this is a very bold move.
- 11:32We got to do something. We ain't got enough power to to
- 11:34attack Boston. All we can do is barely hold
- 11:37those lines. They thought Quebec was weeks
- 11:43away. They didn't know it would be,
- 11:45you know that. We don't really know what's
- 11:48going to happen with it. But General Arnold knows that
- 11:50the prize is worth it and he's the leader to take it.
- 11:54And while the King is declaring us an open and avowed rebellion,
- 12:00while his ministers are are planning campaigns, while his
- 12:06agents are over here buying your maps, don't sell them your maps,
- 12:09folks. Don't help them.
- 12:15While he's getting ready to ship those Germans over here, send
- 12:19Navy convoys. While Congress dithers about
- 12:22whether or not we should build a Navy, Arnold is out showing us
- 12:26what a real rebel general can do.
- 12:28He can take the fight north, and he can take this to them.
- 12:35That's the kind of leadership we need, and God bless the man from
- 12:38right here in downtown Narch. We need more General Arnold's a
- 12:46few less Ethan Allen's in the world.
- 12:49Cloth for your coat, nails for your wagon and a sail.
- 12:52I'm sorry. An ale that warms the marrow.
- 12:55I'm getting old, folks, and it's hard to see in here with this
- 12:57candlelight. Marlow and Sons keeps Narch
- 13:01supplied from boot to belly. Trade in honest coin or sign for
- 13:04credit. Taste of Home in every cup.
- 13:06And no one's been short a loaf after visiting their cellar.
- 13:10That's Marlow and Sons, sundry and stout.
- 13:14I'll be buying some more candles when I see them a little bit
- 13:16later today. Stay with us.
- 13:18We'll be back with your phone calls in just one minute.
- 13:25Welcome back. It's me, Dave Diamond.
- 13:27It is revolutionary talk right here on AM 760.
- 13:32WREV. I look, I I don't I'm proud of general Arnold proud of
- 13:42the fact that he's one of us, that he's from here, proud of
- 13:46the fact that he's leading men in a way that no other no other
- 13:51rebel general, no, no other continental general has done and
- 13:56he will continue to do it. Phone lines are lighting up.
- 14:00Let's go to line 1 fire away. I'll.
- 14:03Tell you, plain, Sir, I'll follow Colonel Arnold anywhere.
- 14:06He's no gentleman officer, hiding behind a desk.
- 14:09He's in the mud with us, hauling boats, cursing the rain, eating
- 14:13the same rotten rations. He fights the way we fight, and
- 14:16that's why the men trust him. If Quebec can be taken, Arnold
- 14:20will be the one to lead us there.
- 14:21Yeah, I, I look, I agree. I, I think he's the best we've
- 14:24got to offer. And with men like him, we can't
- 14:27lose. That's the that's the great
- 14:29thing about all this. By the way, he's a general, not
- 14:32a Colonel. But you know what?
- 14:34I'll let you go Line 2GO. Well, am I?
- 14:37On Yeah, stop. God I hate people that callers
- 14:42line 3. Go ahead.
- 14:44My good Sir, you. Speak of this.
- 14:46Quebec scheme as if it were no more than a jaunt to market.
- 14:50Have you any notion of the expense these bateau cost us
- 14:54dear? The provisions even more, and
- 14:56all to send men trudging through swamps and forests on the faint
- 14:59hope the Canadians will welcome them with open arms.
- 15:02Congress has already drained our credit, strained our paper near
- 15:06worthless. We have an army outside Boston
- 15:09starving for powder and pay. Yet here comes Arnold,
- 15:12clamouring for boats and coin to chase a phantom.
- 15:15Mark me, Sir, we cannot afford it.
- 15:18War is dear enough without throwing away treasure, and
- 15:20lives on a wild March to the north.
- 15:22It is folly, pure folly, and I will not have my name tied to
- 15:26such reckless adventuring when our very survival hangs by a
- 15:29thread in Massachusetts. Now, I, I know that voice,
- 15:32that's, that's Congressman Galloway from Pennsylvania.
- 15:36He's, he's just a Dickinson clone.
- 15:38He, he, he hung up. Look, you, you guys have been,
- 15:46you guys have been just fiddling around down there for too long.
- 15:49As it is, at least General Arnold is out leading somewhere.
- 15:52You sent Washington to Boston. What's he done?
- 15:54Nothing. It's it's time for you guys to
- 15:57own up to this. You need to be supporting
- 15:59General Arnold. You need to be supporting this
- 16:01campaign into Quebec. You need to understand that this
- 16:04is this is the boldness that we need.
- 16:09Or we can stand around and go, oh, it's too expensive, let's do
- 16:12this. It's too that line 3.
- 16:15Go ahead. Canada will never join your
- 16:18rebellion. Yes they will.
- 16:20The French there are content under the King's roof, and they
- 16:24remember well enough. What day was the last war?
- 16:28Do you truly believe they'll throw in with a pack of ragged
- 16:32farmers marching through swamps behind this fellow Arnold?
- 16:36Nonsense, He was breezed. He will start and he will fail.
- 16:42And when he does, you'll see just how foolish this rebellion
- 16:46has become. Loyalist Bob God, you sound like
- 16:51a subject of His Majesty and good Lord, you're just a you're
- 16:59just a quill and Lord N Inkwell, aren't you?
- 17:02Dripping fear and civility instead of actually ink.
- 17:04If Canada's too far away for Arnold to reach, it's only
- 17:08because your imagination stops at the end of a teacup.
- 17:13I'd tell him not to call anymore, but the boss tells me I
- 17:17can't ban collars. So there you go.
- 17:20But you heard, you heard the soldier there, folks.
- 17:23I mean, that's the same thing. They're telling me they would
- 17:28follow Benedict Arnold to the end of this, to the end of this
- 17:31war. He's the leader we need.
- 17:34He's the spirit that we need, and he's going to get this done.
- 17:39Congress may have overlooked him.
- 17:42They may have insulted him, but he is out to prove himself again
- 17:47and he will do it. General Washington's got faith
- 17:50in him. Look, I, I'm hard on Washington,
- 17:52but it's only because he hasn't done anything yet.
- 17:56Looks good in the uniform. Looks really tall.
- 17:59Saw him the other day. But he's at least he recognizes
- 18:04the the spirit that Benedict Arnold has.
- 18:06At least he understands that Arnold will go out and actually
- 18:09fight. Mark this day, my friends,
- 18:13October 3rd, 1775. General Arnold is on the move.
- 18:18When he gets to Quebec and takes it, it will change this war
- 18:22because Britain will lose all of that northern connections that
- 18:26they have and this time there won't be any Ethan Allen to go
- 18:31see. I did it and I will not allow
- 18:34Congress to get away with disrespecting our General
- 18:39Benedict Arm and the king has brand US branded us rebels.
- 18:44We answer with Benedict Arnold leading men through the
- 18:47wilderness. That's the kind of rebellion
- 18:50I'll follow to the end. Have a great weekend everybody.
- 18:55We'll see you on Monday the revolutionary talk right here at
- 18:59WREV 760 AM. Make sure you check us out at
- 19:03powder 2 powder 2 parchment dot. I can't talk today folks.
- 19:08I haven't had enough. I've not had enough of this is
- 19:11Total's coffee today. I'm not sure what's going on.
- 19:14Check us out at powderdepartchment.org.
- 19:16You can e-mail me dave@powderdepartchment.org.
- 19:19See you Monday, everybody. Have a great weekend.
