Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here, live from Guild, Colorado.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Today we're going to talk about the big bad bug, the screw worm.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: We had a crop progress report come out yesterday, and President Trump is going to meet with Zelensky today.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that here in a bit.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Live cattle, August closed at 225.23 cents at a dollar and 85 cents down.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Feeder cattle went down 7 bucks at 345.33.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs, I bounced down a contract to kind of get a more accurate representation.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: They're at 87.80 at a dollar and twenty three cents.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Quoting the grain market live in real time with quotes from T4 from plus 500.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: The September contract, soybean is at$11.94 and three quarters.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Corn is at$4.52 and a half.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: And Chicago wheat is at$6.52 and a quarter.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Kind of a downward move in both the soybeans and wheat overnight.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Corn rather unchanged.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Moving on to our weather discussion today.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: This is our 48-hour chart.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: We often don't look at this one.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: So this is just in the very near future.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: And not a lot on there for the first time.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Obviously, some over there on the Atlantic coast, which is good to see for states like South Carolina over there that are in heavy, heavy drought.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: The major corn belt has a rain event shaping up.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Widespread, much needed rain targets central and western cornbelt later this week.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: So make sure to tune in to Ag Squawk every morning as that develops.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Extreme heat is kind of the story right now, and it persists through the West.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Man, it's been dang hot out here in Colorado.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: The longer range outlook is gonna just get hotter.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Tights continuing throughout the southern plains.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Hill City, Garden City, and Russell saw all 110 degrees or higher.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: That is absolutely crazy.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: I know we got over 100 degrees here in northern Colorado a couple of times, and it has just been an absolute scorcher, even with the pivots on.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Some of the crops out here are starting to feel the heat.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: The grain market discussion, we had that crop progress report, it plays nicely into our weather because the good to excellent corn fell four points from six to sixty-three percent.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Soybeans dropped three points to sixty-three percent on Monday's report.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: This is the first real break of the season.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: I like popping up this chart here, so pause and take a screenshot and zoom in uh if your eyes aren't great, like my folks's, to look at all the different states there.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And what's really interesting to me are the bordering states that have stark contrasts.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: You know, we have South Carolina, but Mississippi and Alabama are very well off in terms of rain.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: But man, you go just east of there and things get pretty dry.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of a mixed bag throughout the United States.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: And you're like, Jed, the story that you're telling with regards to weather just isn't what it's like in my area.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Make sure and leave a comment down below.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: You know, I try and give a macro view of what's going on.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: And, you know, from state to state, there are big changes.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: The livestock market, the big bad screw worm.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: I figured I'd pop this on.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: We haven't talked about it in a while, but with the border reopening just the other day, I figured it was uh, you know, kind of something that we needed needed to talk about because we've kind of controlled this situation.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: As you study it there, more of those cases are turning from orange to blue, which means they have them controlled and have stopped the cases that they have there, and it's not spreading that much farther up past the border.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: It kind of is happening what Mr.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Mike Sands and Mr.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Tom Leffler and I have been talking about.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: It's a concern, it's a parasite that we need to be aware of because it's been in our country before, but at the same time, it's not a plague of locusts crossing the border, it's not gonna kill just a ton of head of cattle.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Obviously, we need to have good animal husbandry practices, but it isn't to the scale of maybe what to which we were scared about, and now we're opening the border.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: This was the big headline, and I'm only gonna briefly cover it.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: But Trump is to meet Zelensky as Ukraine and Iran wars collide.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: He's going to talk to him today about the situation.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I'm not super educated when it comes to DC politics, but luckily we have a man who is Mr.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Jim Wiesmeyer.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: He posts content.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: You know, if you're like, well, Jim just has a releases a video once a week, he is maybe the biggest workhorse I know.

- 5:17SPEAKER_00: It's up there every day.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: He maybe releases three articles.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: He is the best DC policy guy there is with regards to agriculture, and there's a reason because he puts out so much news and stays so updated on things.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Go over there.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: That stuff is free for now.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: It may not be in the future, but for now it is.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: So go ahead and take a look at that.
