- 0:01Hey everybody. Welcome back to the Elon Musk
- 0:04Podcast. This is a show where we discuss
- 0:07the critical crossroads that shape SpaceX, Tesla X, The
- 0:11Boring Company, and Neurolink. I'm your host Will Walden.
- 0:16Elon Musk's net worth reached an extraordinary $347.8 billion on
- 0:21Friday, breaking his previous high of $340.4 billion set back
- 0:28in November of 2021. This milestone was fueled by
- 0:32Tesla's soaring stock price and a significant funding round that
- 0:35valued his artificial intelligence venture XAI at
- 0:39around $50 billion. Musk, who is the founder and CEO
- 0:44of Tesla and of multiple high profile companies, has seen his
- 0:48fortune rise dramatically since the election of Donald Trump as
- 0:52the next U.S. President.
- 0:54Now, Tesla shares climbed 3.8% on Friday, closing at $352.56.
- 1:01The company's stock has risen 45% since November 4th, the day
- 1:05before Trump's election win, adding an estimated $350 billion
- 1:10in market value. The surge reflects investor
- 1:13confidence that Trump's policies on EVs and autonomous cars will
- 1:17favor Tesla over traditional automakers, currently valued at
- 1:21$1.13 trillion. Tesla's position as a leader in
- 1:26EV technology has never seemed stronger.
- 1:29Now, part of this optimism stems from Trump's support for a
- 1:33federal framework to advance self driving vehicles.
- 1:37His administration's transition team has indicated plans to
- 1:40prioritize removing state level restrictions that have hindered
- 1:44companies like Tesla from deploying fully autonomous
- 1:48vehicles. Now, Elon Musk has long been
- 1:51vocal about these regulatory hurdles, criticizing patchwork
- 1:55laws that restrict growth. Now, Musk's artificial
- 1:58intelligence startup XAI is also benefited from the post election
- 2:03momentum. A recent funding round valued
- 2:05the company at $50 billion, more than doubling its valuation
- 2:10since May. And report suggests that Trump's
- 2:12victory increased investor interest, further boosting
- 2:15Musk's wealth. XA is rise adds another feather
- 2:19to Musk's cap as the entrepreneur continues to
- 2:22diversify his holdings. His wealth, primarily derived
- 2:25from his 13% stake in Tesla and 42% stake in SpaceX, has grown
- 2:31by 35% since the election, making an increase of $119
- 2:37billion in 2024. Now, SpaceX is reportedly
- 2:41preparing for a private share sale that could value the
- 2:45company at over $250 billion. Trump's public support of
- 2:49SpaceX, including his attendance at the last Starship test
- 2:53flight, shows that Musk and Trump can work together on
- 2:59business ventures and also work together with the incoming
- 3:03administration. Now, Spacex's dominance in space
- 3:06exploration remains unmatched, and the potential share sale
- 3:09could add another $18 billion to Musk's net worth.
- 3:14Now, Musk's alignment with Trump has become increasingly
- 3:16apparent. In the final weeks of the
- 3:18presidential campaign, Musk campaigned alongside Trump in
- 3:21key battleground states, contributing more than $170
- 3:25million to a pack supporting the Republican candidate.
- 3:29The partnership appears to extend beyond politics though.
- 3:32Musk has been tapped to Co lead a newly created Department of
- 3:36Government Efficiency under Trump's administration, or DOGE.
- 3:40Now, Musk has stated that his role in the department will
- 3:42focus on reducing bureaucratic barriers, a mission consistent
- 3:46with his frustration over regulations affecting Tesla self
- 3:50driving vehicles and also Spacex's Starship launches.
- 3:53Now, Trump's administration has also signaled its intention to
- 3:56rollback emission standards and eliminate EV tax credits
- 4:00introduced during the Biden presidency.
- 4:03While this could hurt legacy automakers, Tesla, which is less
- 4:06dependent on federal subsidies, may find itself in an ever
- 4:10stronger competitive position now.
- 4:12Tesla's dominance and EV market remains a cornerstone of why
- 4:17Elon Musk is so wealthy. The company's stock is just
- 4:20below 15%, its all time high of 407 dollars achieved in November
- 4:25of 2021. And over the past six months,
- 4:28Tesla shares have nearly doubled, bolstered by strong
- 4:31quarterly earnings and investor optimism about its future
- 4:34prospects under the Trump administration.
- 4:37Now, Musk's fortune is inextricably linked to Tesla's
- 4:40success, with the automaker contributing $145 billion to his
- 4:44net worth. And this connection shows the
- 4:46importance of Tesla and the ongoing innovation and market
- 4:50expansion of key drivers of Elon's financial empire.
- 4:55Now, Musk's wealth not only cements his status as the
- 4:57world's richest person, but also amplifies his influence in
- 5:01shaping technological and regulatory policies.
- 5:04With a fortune now exceeding 80 billion dollars more than the
- 5:08next wealthiest individual, which is the Oracle chairman
- 5:11Larry Ellison, Musk's financial and political clout is
- 5:14unparalleled. He's very powerful, most
- 5:16powerful person in the world other than the president,
- 5:18probably. His influence extends beyond
- 5:21Tesla and SpaceX. Musk's acquisition of the social
- 5:24media platform X and recent comments about potentially
- 5:27buying MSNBC shows that he's ambitious to extend his
- 5:30footprint into traditional media and communications.
- 5:34Now he's humorous, he's a funny guy.
- 5:36It's often showcased on X and other social medias, and it
- 5:39keeps his eye on the public, further solidifying his persona
- 5:42as both a tech mogul and a cultural figure.
- 5:45Now, the record-breaking growth of Musk's fortune raises
- 5:48questions about the interplay between businesses and politics.
- 5:53While his alignment with Trump may provide new opportunities
- 5:56for his company also ties his ventures to the fortunes of the
- 5:59administration. And as Tesla pushes towards its
- 6:01goal of leading the autonomous vehicle revolution, and as
- 6:06SpaceX prepares for future milestones like sending a
- 6:09Starship to Mars within a few years from now, Musk's
- 6:13trajectory seems poised for continued expansion.
- 6:16However, his wealth and influence also pays him under
- 6:19intense scrutiny, particularly as he assumes the government
- 6:22role aimed at reducing regulatory barriers.
