- 0:54Speaker 8: to watch, have a lot of fun with.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Uh yeah, get ready, buckle your seatbelts.
- 0:59Speaker 8: But it's uh, it's Evan, it's Deuced, it's me, it's Paul,
- 1:02Speaker 8: it's Anthony and matt Behind the scenes, Matista gathering up
- 1:05Speaker 8: people to bring on.
- 1:07Speaker 9: And Matisa has been chasing around Steven A Smith for
- 1:11Speaker 9: quite a while.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah, Matis will not go on the show. We stopped asking.
- 1:14Speaker 10: We had to tell him, like Mattis, you're you're getting on.
- 1:18Speaker 10: Stocker level. We're gonna have to leave even a alone.
- 1:20Speaker 2: That's all right, at least he waved to us. Yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 8: Yeah, so big night for the Patriots last night. Yeah
- 1:27Speaker 8: it was coaches NFL.
- 1:30Speaker 2: What's started off with Adam vint Terry.
- 1:33Speaker 11: To the Hall of Fame.
- 1:34Speaker 8: Yeah, absolutely, well deserved second ballot a year too late,
- 1:39Speaker 8: but that's okay.
- 1:40Speaker 2: He got in.
- 1:42Speaker 9: I think it's still pretty impressive. And kicker gets in
- 1:44Speaker 9: in the second try. I mean that that's pretty good.
- 1:46Speaker 9: I mean, this kicker of all time, and there were
- 1:48Speaker 9: only three I think true kickers. There are guys who
- 1:51Speaker 9: kicked and played other positions like back in the.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Old days, like Tom Tuba.
- 1:55Speaker 9: Yeah, Lou Gros up, but it's I think it's John
- 1:59Speaker 9: Stener Rude and uh, who's the other one? Anderson? Those
- 2:05Speaker 9: are the only the only, the only other two true kickers.
- 2:07Speaker 9: So elite company for Adam Viniti.
- 2:10Speaker 12: And obviously and you guys deserve you guys witnessed firsthand.
- 2:14Speaker 12: And Paul you were on the field for, I mean
- 2:16Speaker 12: the biggest moment of his career, the biggest kick. I mean,
- 2:18Speaker 12: you know, I know the Super Bowl is big, but
- 2:20Speaker 12: that kick in the snow, like I get a great
- 2:22Speaker 12: Super Bowl game winning. Of course that's a huge kick.
- 2:24Speaker 12: But that kick into the snow, I'm sorry, Like, even
- 2:26Speaker 12: on TV, it looked impossible and Paul your story of you.
- 2:30Speaker 13: Couldn't even see the other end of the stadium to.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Know if the football went through. So somebody did that
- 2:36Speaker 2: and then he did it again to win the game. Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:38Speaker 10: Somebody asked vrabel about it yesterday just to tee him
- 2:41Speaker 10: up on it, and uh, he said that the kick
- 2:44Speaker 10: in the snow, which I'm sure he's talking about, the
- 2:46Speaker 10: one that sent it to overtime, is the longer one, right, Yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 10: he said, that's the greatest feed he's ever seen on
- 2:52Speaker 10: a football field. Was Vinitary making that kick? And he
- 2:55Speaker 10: was like, that was, you know, just an unbelievable kick,
- 2:58Speaker 10: and uh, you know, Vinitaria, it's just one of those
- 3:03Speaker 10: guys that was, you know, one of the first true
- 3:05Speaker 10: pillars of dynasty one and you.
- 3:07Speaker 8: Know, even the one to win, uh in two thousand
- 3:11Speaker 8: and one the Super super Bowl. Yeah, like it was
- 3:12Speaker 8: only like forty eight yards, but it was right down
- 3:15Speaker 8: the middle.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it wasn't even.
- 3:18Speaker 9: Question and at the time, you know, a forty eight
- 3:20Speaker 9: yarder was I mean yeah, they make him this commonplace,
- 3:23Speaker 9: but it wasn't It wasn't an automatic kick.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Yes under that pressure.
- 3:26Speaker 12: Yeah, you know, I was always amazed that Bill called
- 3:29Speaker 12: them their best player, like the game comes down to
- 3:31Speaker 12: our best player, and I was like, wait what That
- 3:33Speaker 12: always struck me as like that's an interesting way to
- 3:35Speaker 12: put in which.
- 3:36Speaker 9: Was always another backhanded way of making it about him.
- 3:39Speaker 9: A I'm not going to get into that because it's
- 3:41Speaker 9: savage time, but I'm not going to I'm not going
- 3:43Speaker 9: to do that.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going to do that.
- 3:45Speaker 8: So so Patriots from the Dynasty gets into the uh.
- 3:49Speaker 2: There we go.
- 3:50Speaker 12: We're tipping away at those Steelers and Elsie Greenwood did
- 3:53Speaker 12: not get it in, which and I'm not saying that
- 3:55Speaker 12: to brag on him, that's out as bad.
- 3:57Speaker 10: But but Roger Roger Craig is the only one that
- 4:01Speaker 10: got in on the on the Senior committee, so which
- 4:05Speaker 10: is where Belichick and and mister Kraft were nominated for
- 4:08Speaker 10: it as well. So only one of the five guys
- 4:10Speaker 10: actually ended up getting in after all the hullabaloo about
- 4:14Speaker 10: you know, Belichick and.
- 4:15Speaker 8: Craft crazy anyway, So Adamson and then in terms of
- 4:19Speaker 8: the AP Awards, like Rabel Coach of the Year.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Yeah, swept the coaches categories second time.
- 4:25Speaker 8: Yeah, crazy, So that's awesome, well deserved. I think there
- 4:29Speaker 8: were others that were also.
- 4:31Speaker 2: That was a tough to me. That was a tough one.
- 4:33Speaker 2: It was close. I didn't see the voting. Was it close?
- 4:36Speaker 2: Him and Liam Cohne were very close.
- 4:37Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I think you could have made an argument for Johnson.
- 4:41Speaker 2: He was four.
- 4:42Speaker 10: Actually, I think I believe it was Rabel, Liam Cohne,
- 4:47Speaker 10: Mike McDonald, Ben Johnson. But Rabel got nineteen of the
- 4:54Speaker 10: first place votes and Liam Cone got sixteen, so it
- 4:57Speaker 10: was it wasn't as close as MVP, but it was close.
- 5:00Speaker 8: The MVP was raised, so we're gonna get to that
- 5:02Speaker 8: in a second. But then Assistant Coach of the Year
- 5:04Speaker 8: Josh McDaniel.
- 5:05Speaker 10: Yeah, Josh McDaniels won that as well. So both coaches.
- 5:10Speaker 2: You know, those are the only two coaching categories, so
- 5:12Speaker 2: they won them both.
- 5:13Speaker 8: And then as as we kind of expected as we
- 5:16Speaker 8: got closer to it, Matthew Stafford won MVP.
- 5:19Speaker 2: But it was damn close. It was very close. Yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 2: it was.
- 5:23Speaker 10: It was a five point difference. Way to vote work,
- 5:26Speaker 10: you know, first places, three second places, two, third places
- 5:29Speaker 10: one and you put one, two three on your ballot.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And so it was three sixty six to three sixty.
- 5:35Speaker 10: One and favor of Stafford and only one first place
- 5:38Speaker 10: vote went to Stafford twenty four to twenty three and
- 5:42Speaker 10: the first place vote. So it was really really close,
- 5:45Speaker 10: really close, Yeah.
- 5:46Speaker 9: Which I was glad to say. I mean, I was,
- 5:48Speaker 9: I'm with Freddy as it was sort of approaching. A
- 5:51Speaker 9: lot of people seem to be talking in terms of
- 5:54Speaker 9: Drake was the runner up. Even Matt Casselbeck called him
- 5:56Speaker 9: the runner up yesterday. I don't know if he knew
- 6:00Speaker 9: or the other, so I kind of got the impression,
- 6:02Speaker 9: but I was glad that.
- 6:02Speaker 2: It was so close.
- 6:03Speaker 9: So people really did give it some thought and didn't
- 6:06Speaker 9: just you know, even though Evan and I have have
- 6:09Speaker 9: sort of bickered about the numbers, they didn't just go
- 6:12Speaker 9: on the numbers. They went into the analytical numbers that
- 6:15Speaker 9: Evan talks about, those kinds of metrics, because obviously it
- 6:18Speaker 9: was razor thing that could have gone either way. Now,
- 6:19Speaker 9: if the guy didn't vote for you know, justin Herbert,
- 6:22Speaker 9: who knows, maybe he would have got that vote would
- 6:24Speaker 9: have gone to Draco.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it would have been tied.
- 6:26Speaker 10: Yeah, it's funny now that they're in the super Bowl
- 6:29Speaker 10: and he has a chance to win the Super Bowl
- 6:31Speaker 10: and potentially win Super Bowl MVP if he plays well.
- 6:34Speaker 10: I don't really care as much about it, Like I
- 6:36Speaker 10: would have been up in arms about this if it
- 6:37Speaker 10: was you know, they weren't playing in the super Bowl,
- 6:40Speaker 10: but now they have bigger, bigger things on the mind.
- 6:43Speaker 9: Did you have any thought of to maybe doing an
- 6:45Speaker 9: emergency podcast last night to discuss that.
- 6:48Speaker 10: I was asked to actually come into an emergency podcast
- 6:51Speaker 10: of the outrage of the MVP vote.
- 6:56Speaker 8: You know what, I think that Evan I got it
- 6:59Speaker 8: on my ex sit Alex barth Is Live.
- 7:01Speaker 10: Yeah, reaction, I think that it's uh. I sometimes with
- 7:07Speaker 10: these things you have to have like the MVP season
- 7:09Speaker 10: before the MVP season. So now that Drake May has
- 7:12Speaker 10: established himself as this level of quarterback, hopefully the next
- 7:16Speaker 10: time around, you know that he has it this kind
- 7:19Speaker 10: of statistical season. You know, he's the ends up winning
- 7:21Speaker 10: the award, but Matthew Stafford got.
- 7:23Speaker 2: The like time.
- 7:24Speaker 8: I hope that Sunday he does more to establish himself
- 7:28Speaker 8: as that level of quarterbacks and that'll be that's this
- 7:31Speaker 8: is the ultimate test.
- 7:32Speaker 2: It did pivot to that real quick. Yeah. Now it's like, eh, yeah,
- 7:35Speaker 2: it's well, I'm glad.
- 7:37Speaker 12: That the coaches got acknowledged. And you know, for somebody
- 7:39Speaker 12: like me, I love coaching in general. I mean, I
- 7:42Speaker 12: just guess I witnessed a pretty good coaching season where
- 7:45Speaker 12: you had two coaches that were noticed by the league
- 7:48Speaker 12: for the job that they did. And having done this
- 7:50Speaker 12: now for a little bit, experienced different kinds of teams,
- 7:52Speaker 12: different locker rooms.
- 7:54Speaker 2: I can see why. I can see why.
- 7:56Speaker 12: The results obviously on the field speak for themselves, but
- 7:59Speaker 12: we were in that locker room all season long and
- 8:02Speaker 12: it was just great vibes.
- 8:03Speaker 2: And anybody.
- 8:04Speaker 12: Anytime anyone talks about Mike Rabel or Josh McDaniels for
- 8:08Speaker 12: that matter, it's just such praise for all the buttons
- 8:10Speaker 12: that they pushed, the way that they teach, the way
- 8:13Speaker 12: that they engage their players. So credit to them. I mean,
- 8:16Speaker 12: Josh McDaniels, it's just I'm so happy for him. You
- 8:19Speaker 12: had a tough go of it again and with the
- 8:21Speaker 12: Raiders and had a year off and to come back
- 8:24Speaker 12: and to win this award, I think it's just you know,
- 8:26Speaker 12: I mean, this guy's probably the greatest offensive coordinator in
- 8:28Speaker 12: Patriot's history, and I don't know who else would be.
- 8:31Speaker 2: So then there was a.
- 8:31Speaker 8: More minor category, uh, Players of the Year that Drake won.
- 8:38Speaker 10: He wer, Yeah, there's like air ground and one other
- 8:45Speaker 10: one and yeah, Drake May won the air player. So
- 8:48Speaker 10: the best passing season, okay, went to Drake May. But yeah,
- 8:53Speaker 10: I think with that.
- 8:54Speaker 8: I think that should have been reversed, that that should
- 8:57Speaker 8: have been Stafford and May should have been some of those.
- 9:01Speaker 10: And then that's what I just didn't understand about the
- 9:05Speaker 10: way that denominations worked was because, like they said, they said,
- 9:08Speaker 10: the m v P was supposed to be based off value, right,
- 9:11Speaker 10: who's the most valuable player? And then Offensive Player of
- 9:14Speaker 10: the Year is who had like the best season? Right,
- 9:16Speaker 10: You're right, And wouldn't you think that Stafford was the
- 9:19Speaker 10: one that might have had the better statistical season, but
- 9:22Speaker 10: May was the more valuable player to his team. And
- 9:25Speaker 10: they somehow they they they reversed those when the when
- 9:28Speaker 10: they put the voting out, which was kind of weird.
- 9:30Speaker 8: So all of that stuff is fun and I'm sure
- 9:34Speaker 8: it's meaningful to those who win it, but.
- 9:38Speaker 9: We're moving but it's another indication of you know, like
- 9:42Speaker 9: the whole we're back, you know, like they're they're back
- 9:44Speaker 9: in the mix for for these things. They're being talked
- 9:47Speaker 9: about with the most prestigious awards that the league has,
- 9:50Speaker 9: and obviously on the biggest stage with the game coming
- 9:52Speaker 9: on Sunday.
- 9:53Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, I.
- 9:54Speaker 10: Think with Rabel one of the things I you know,
- 9:58Speaker 10: we read about it on on the website last night obviously,
- 10:01Speaker 10: and I just don't think when they hired him, because
- 10:04Speaker 10: we didn't know him, you know, his coaching style well
- 10:06Speaker 10: enough yet I didn't realize how much of a CEO
- 10:10Speaker 10: head coach he truly is in terms of his ability
- 10:12Speaker 10: to make an impact in every part of the football team,
- 10:16Speaker 10: like not just defense, which obviously would be his specialty,
- 10:20Speaker 10: but you know, the way that he's coached Drake May,
- 10:22Speaker 10: the way that he's coached you know, in special teams,
- 10:25Speaker 10: just watching him out there, you know, on on the
- 10:28Speaker 10: practice field and watching him get into these drills and
- 10:31Speaker 10: the techniques that he's drilling and things like that. You know,
- 10:33Speaker 10: his in game management was stretch, like you know, like
- 10:36Speaker 10: all just all the things that he's able to do,
- 10:40Speaker 10: you know, all these other coaches that get nominated for
- 10:42Speaker 10: these things have a specialty. You know, Mike McDonald's a
- 10:45Speaker 10: defensive coach. It's defensive play caller. Liam Cohnes an offensive
- 10:49Speaker 10: play Carl Carls Shanahan's an offensive play caller.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Rabel just does it all. You know, I don't know
- 10:54Speaker 2: how much they do on their teams as well. They
- 10:55Speaker 2: might do more. You know, they put the chest pat
- 10:57Speaker 2: on the people.
- 10:58Speaker 8: The thing about Rabel is and you know, you hate
- 11:01Speaker 8: to make comparisons to last year because it's really not fair.
- 11:05Speaker 8: But from day one, Gerond Mayo was underwater. He had
- 11:08Speaker 8: no connections, he had no network. You know, he was
- 11:13Speaker 8: totally beholden to others to bring in people to support him,
- 11:17Speaker 8: and you know, they weren't the best.
- 11:19Speaker 2: They weren't.
- 11:20Speaker 15: You know.
- 11:21Speaker 8: Vrabel from day one had people that he knew, he trusted,
- 11:26Speaker 8: he knew what their strengths were, and he brought in
- 11:29Speaker 8: just a great support system for him that allows him
- 11:32Speaker 8: to get involved in all these other areas. But at
- 11:37Speaker 8: the same time, have all these areas have people in
- 11:40Speaker 8: charge that you know, could help him out. And that's
- 11:43Speaker 8: such a huge difference from this year to last year.
- 11:46Speaker 8: Was just the structure of you know, the football operations
- 11:50Speaker 8: and the quality of people down there helping Vrabel.
- 11:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:53Speaker 12: I mean and to that point, Fred, I feel like
- 11:55Speaker 12: Rabel just he checks every box that you you know,
- 11:58Speaker 12: if you were creating an NFL coach in the Labbits.
- 12:00Speaker 12: He's got the NFL playing cachet. And I mean it's
- 12:03Speaker 12: not just like, oh, he was a good defensive player,
- 12:05Speaker 12: Like the guy caught touchdowns as a defensive player, so
- 12:08Speaker 12: whatever he knows. He's got some swag on the offensive
- 12:10Speaker 12: side too, so you know that the players are going
- 12:12Speaker 12: to immediately buy in. But he also was raised by
- 12:15Speaker 12: educators and he has you know, that's something that he
- 12:16Speaker 12: continually met, you know, mentions about trying to reach the
- 12:20Speaker 12: players and you know, connecting with them as people first.
- 12:23Speaker 12: And that's something that I've heard a lot, is that
- 12:25Speaker 12: you feel like he cares about his players as people
- 12:29Speaker 12: first and not as players. And the final thing I'll
- 12:31Speaker 12: point to is he had some time in Tennessee. Yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 12: to get what Gerard didn't get, which work out the kinks,
- 12:37Speaker 12: build more of a network, have to you know, he
- 12:39Speaker 12: had to turn over some coaches, he had to interview guys,
- 12:42Speaker 12: so you know, getting that first experience, it just it
- 12:44Speaker 12: feels like here in New England, and certainly the experience
- 12:46Speaker 12: he had here, he was fully embraced by the fan
- 12:49Speaker 12: base immediately.
- 12:50Speaker 2: It's and that's why that's when you end up like this.
- 12:53Speaker 8: I think that second time around is really valuable, especially
- 12:56Speaker 8: with head coaches. You know, you just learned from it. Yeah,
- 12:59Speaker 8: there's no way you can do everything right the first time.
- 13:02Speaker 8: You're gonna make mistakes and you're always gonna make but
- 13:05Speaker 8: at least you have that time to have made the
- 13:08Speaker 8: mistakes and then learn from them. And I think one
- 13:10Speaker 8: of the things that I think he did learn from
- 13:12Speaker 8: Tennessee is to be more of that people person and
- 13:15Speaker 8: to get to know the players and you know, earn
- 13:18Speaker 8: their loyalty and their trust because it's a two way street.
- 13:21Speaker 8: And one of the first things he did when he
- 13:24Speaker 8: came here in his initial team meeting and we had
- 13:27Speaker 8: it on forged in Foxborough is to show it's a
- 13:30Speaker 8: lot better if we're walking together instead of pushing against
- 13:33Speaker 8: each other. You know, if we walk together, we get
- 13:36Speaker 8: there a lot smoother and quicker than if we're constantly
- 13:40Speaker 8: pushing each other. And you know, if we trust each
- 13:44Speaker 8: other and it's a two way street.
- 13:46Speaker 2: We can get there.
- 13:48Speaker 8: And you know, I don't know if you learned that
- 13:50Speaker 8: at Tennessee, but it's certainly something he brought here and
- 13:53Speaker 8: emphasize from day one.
- 13:55Speaker 12: Yeah, it's just so exciting, like I love you know,
- 13:57Speaker 12: Pebele mentioned it at some point telling Will Campbelly's going
- 14:00Speaker 12: to do the morning announcements next year too.
- 14:02Speaker 2: And you know, the going back.
- 14:03Speaker 12: But just like the mention of next year and these
- 14:06Speaker 12: vibes and I know it's going to be a new
- 14:08Speaker 12: team and they got to re establish everything. But no
- 14:10Speaker 12: matter how this game goes on Sunday night in about
- 14:13Speaker 12: five months, when we get back out on that practice field,
- 14:15Speaker 12: I'm going to be so jacked up to see this
- 14:17Speaker 12: team come back together and what does it look like
- 14:19Speaker 12: this time, and who do they bring in and you know,
- 14:21Speaker 12: what's this Verbel change and how does he I'm sure
- 14:23Speaker 12: it'll be tweaks and everything.
- 14:25Speaker 13: So there's just a lot of excitement. Obviously the Patriots
- 14:27Speaker 13: and the Super Bowl, so that's probably goes without saying.
- 14:29Speaker 12: But at the same time, right now, going from where
- 14:32Speaker 12: you were a year ago, where you're at the bottom
- 14:34Speaker 12: of the hill, and I think at this point we
- 14:35Speaker 12: had Rabel back, but it was like it's still felt
- 14:38Speaker 12: like it's going to be a long road back to
- 14:39Speaker 12: where we.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Used to be, and look here we are.
- 14:42Speaker 10: It just kind of speaks to also just with both
- 14:44Speaker 10: of them winning, it like how lucky they are to
- 14:46Speaker 10: have Rabel and McDaniel's paired together and for the time being,
- 14:51Speaker 10: I just don't think Josh is going anywhere anytime really soon.
- 14:55Speaker 2: And you know, I just Dad's rare.
- 14:58Speaker 10: And when you hire a coach that isn't the offensive architect,
- 15:01Speaker 10: that isn't the offensive play caller, you can cycle through
- 15:04Speaker 10: coordinators a lot, and you know, to have Josh McDaniels
- 15:09Speaker 10: is a real godsend for Drake May. And by the
- 15:12Speaker 10: time Josh, if he does move on, like hopefully at
- 15:14Speaker 10: that point, Drake May is kind of bulletproof in his
- 15:17Speaker 10: in his career, is you know, four or five years
- 15:19Speaker 10: down the line where he's so established that it's not
- 15:22Speaker 10: gonna matter too much that he has a new play
- 15:25Speaker 10: caller and a new coordinator.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I mean, it's just it's just a quality staff. You know.
- 15:29Speaker 8: You look at Zach Corer, you know, Terrell Williams, you know,
- 15:32Speaker 8: gets sick and can't coach and he steps in, and
- 15:36Speaker 8: you know, I don't know if Rabel knew he was
- 15:38Speaker 8: going to be this good, but he knew he was
- 15:40Speaker 8: good enough to be on his staff, and sure enough
- 15:43Speaker 8: he steps in and defense has been playing great. I
- 15:46Speaker 8: look at the offensive line staff that's able to put together,
- 15:50Speaker 8: and again, I don't know if he consciously thought three
- 15:53Speaker 8: coaches are better than one, but starting with Doug Marone,
- 15:56Speaker 8: you know, you've got these guys that are able to
- 15:58Speaker 8: divvy it up and and kind of divide and conquer
- 16:01Speaker 8: when it comes to coaching this offensive line that let's
- 16:04Speaker 8: face it, last year was it was It was absolutely terrible.
- 16:07Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, yeah, No, the three to zero line
- 16:10Speaker 10: coach has been great. I think Doug Moron's experience as
- 16:12Speaker 10: a head coach in the league kind of allows him
- 16:15Speaker 10: to be the head coach of the offensive line.
- 16:17Speaker 2: And really delegate and be able to lead that group.
- 16:19Speaker 10: And Jason Haddling has been an offensive line coach before,
- 16:23Speaker 10: so he's also run the room in Tennessee for Vrabel.
- 16:27Speaker 10: So it's basically like you have almost three offensive line
- 16:31Speaker 10: coaches that could run the room if that really had to.
- 16:34Speaker 12: That's what I was just gonna say, Evan that something
- 16:36Speaker 12: they got away from was that coaching depth and the
- 16:37Speaker 12: Belichick coaching tree.
- 16:39Speaker 13: You know, was so pillaged, pillaged.
- 16:42Speaker 12: Yes, yes, and you got to the point where there's
- 16:45Speaker 12: no when there's nobody left to take over. And now,
- 16:48Speaker 12: you know, I don't think Josh is going anywhere either,
- 16:50Speaker 12: but I think Ashton Grant's a very promising young coach.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Thomas Brown.
- 16:54Speaker 13: Thomas Brown is, you know, getting interviews.
- 16:56Speaker 12: Zach Korr has now basically been a defensive coordinator for
- 16:59Speaker 12: a year, and who knows how that's gonna manifest itself
- 17:02Speaker 12: next year and what his role will be, But that's
- 17:04Speaker 12: great experience for him.
- 17:06Speaker 16: Now.
- 17:06Speaker 12: Even if Terrell Williams comes back next year and he's
- 17:08Speaker 12: the DC, Zach Korr's got some really good, you know,
- 17:11Speaker 12: ideas input because he's been there and done that.
- 17:13Speaker 2: So I love building that up.
- 17:15Speaker 12: And you know, I start to think about, might this
- 17:17Speaker 12: coaching staff change a little bit, as all coaching staffs
- 17:19Speaker 12: do every year, But it feels like they're pretty well
- 17:21Speaker 12: insulated to protect me.
- 17:23Speaker 8: You know what's gonna stink is with success, you get
- 17:25Speaker 8: that pilfering. Yeah, and you know, guys like Zach Korr
- 17:28Speaker 8: and maybe Thomas Brown and uh, you know they're gonna
- 17:31Speaker 8: get looks from other teams.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Right success, you know that's what happened. Yeah, Thomas Brown
- 17:35Speaker 2: is one.
- 17:35Speaker 10: I don't know if it will be this cycle, but
- 17:38Speaker 10: he's somebody that has already had some interviews and probably
- 17:41Speaker 10: would have some opportunities to be an offensive coordinator someplace else,
- 17:45Speaker 10: and that could happen. And I'd also just shout out
- 17:47Speaker 10: Todd Downing too, Yeah, who I think has done an
- 17:51Speaker 10: excellent job at the wide receiver room. That's that wide
- 17:54Speaker 10: receiver room. The culture in that room has done a
- 17:56Speaker 10: total one ad And obviously Stefan Diggs gets a lot
- 17:58Speaker 10: of that credit to Matt Collins as the veterans in
- 18:01Speaker 10: that room. But then the night and day comparison of
- 18:04Speaker 10: the attitude and all that kind of stuff in that room,
- 18:08Speaker 10: and the fact that the ball does get distributed a lot,
- 18:11Speaker 10: and it's some weeks it's not gonna be your week
- 18:13Speaker 10: to get a lot of targets, and you don't hear
- 18:15Speaker 10: a lot of complaining about targets or playing time. And
- 18:18Speaker 10: you know, there's guys in there like Pop Douglas for example,
- 18:21Speaker 10: and have every reason to be a little bit disappointed
- 18:23Speaker 10: with how much he's played, and you don't hear a
- 18:26Speaker 10: peep of anything like that.
- 18:27Speaker 8: You know, in terms of the turn about in the room,
- 18:29Speaker 8: wouldn't you say that Booty is most improved on this team?
- 18:32Speaker 10: Absolutely, on the shortlist, absolutely, Yeah, But just the the
- 18:37Speaker 10: attention to detail. You know, we were talking over the
- 18:39Speaker 10: last couple of years so much about like route spacing
- 18:43Speaker 10: and like you guys are on top of each other
- 18:45Speaker 10: and the concepts aren't marrying doesn't make anything like that.
- 18:47Speaker 2: We haven't brought in any of that up sing or
- 18:50Speaker 2: that route spacing. Yeah.
- 18:52Speaker 12: Well, I just hopped on the Louisiana radio here before
- 18:54Speaker 12: I came on, and they saw it with their own eyes.
- 18:56Speaker 12: They're like, how has this happen with kay Sean body?
- 19:00Speaker 12: And I told him, you know the story I've told
- 19:01Speaker 12: one hundred times here on Unfiltered. If there's the contrast
- 19:04Speaker 12: of that first game he played not getting his feet down,
- 19:07Speaker 12: and now he's the guy who knows exactly when to
- 19:09Speaker 12: get down and to make those big catches to seal games,
- 19:12Speaker 12: and I'm excited. I think he's got an opportunity to
- 19:15Speaker 12: have a huge game this this weekend, and I think
- 19:17Speaker 12: they're really going to need him. That's that's the that's
- 19:19Speaker 12: the special sauce, right, I mean, that's Drake chucking it
- 19:21Speaker 12: down the field to him.
- 19:22Speaker 2: They can get that going.
- 19:23Speaker 8: So you did, Louisiana, Yeah, on your list Seattle.
- 19:33Speaker 12: Asking me about de Moine making the rounds of the
- 19:35Speaker 12: little Seattle hit and I actually I think I got
- 19:38Speaker 12: to go on you know, Fred, you email me, I'm
- 19:39Speaker 12: going on Australian mooring radio, which we assume it's called
- 19:42Speaker 12: Good Day Mate.
- 19:43Speaker 2: After my rent yesterday. Uh, they might be I was
- 19:48Speaker 2: an off are we hearing about it?
- 19:54Speaker 8: Somebody from Australia emailed me said, you know, Fred, at
- 19:57Speaker 8: first I was offended, but then that more I thought
- 19:59Speaker 8: about it, because you're right, He's like.
- 20:01Speaker 2: You're turning Australians. We don't really have a lot here
- 20:03Speaker 2: that you don't have anywhere else. And you know, maybe
- 20:06Speaker 2: I'm gonna move lots of poisonous snakes. Yeah, yeah, a
- 20:10Speaker 2: lot of animals that can kill you over there. All right.
- 20:14Speaker 8: So so that's kind of the roundup from last night.
- 20:17Speaker 8: The big news going in today. The Patriots will have
- 20:21Speaker 8: another practice, Yeah.
- 20:22Speaker 12: I mean we can talk about the injury port a
- 20:23Speaker 12: little bit yesterday that came out and Harold Landry did
- 20:27Speaker 12: not participate. Robert Splaine did my personal interpretation. Harold Landry,
- 20:31Speaker 12: they let him try to rest it up. They gave
- 20:33Speaker 12: him a go on Wednesday. I don't know how it responded.
- 20:36Speaker 12: Probably not too good if he didn't practice Thursday. We'll
- 20:38Speaker 12: see today, but I have a feeling today is probably
- 20:41Speaker 12: gonna be more of like walk through situational kind of
- 20:43Speaker 12: stuff like it was the competitive practices the last two
- 20:46Speaker 12: days that you'd want to be out there for.
- 20:48Speaker 2: So I'm a little encouraged by Spallaine. Maybe that's a.
- 20:51Speaker 12: Sign he's gonna play. But I think this arrow probably
- 20:53Speaker 12: on Harold Landry's pointing down.
- 20:55Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, And I you know, Harold Landry at this point,
- 20:59Speaker 10: like Frinny Jennings and Elisha Ponder, are probably just healthier,
- 21:03Speaker 10: you know, and been more effective as a result. So
- 21:07Speaker 10: as much as I you know, it's a bummer for
- 21:09Speaker 10: him as a veteran player and a captain and a
- 21:11Speaker 10: guy that's been probably waiting for the chance to play
- 21:14Speaker 10: in a Super Bowl his whole career, I don't think
- 21:18Speaker 10: that that's like some huge drop off that they're gonna
- 21:21Speaker 10: miss him.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Compared to Jennings.
- 21:22Speaker 10: You know, with Jennings out there the way he's been playing,
- 21:25Speaker 10: Roberts Blaine's a big one, and I think it's kind
- 21:27Speaker 10: of comparing that to Nick amm and Worry, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 10: for Seattle right now, they have two key defenders on
- 21:33Speaker 10: both teams that are both actually have ankle injuries ironically,
- 21:37Speaker 10: and our key key pieces to their defenses and their availability,
- 21:41Speaker 10: and then also if they do play, their effectiveness is
- 21:44Speaker 10: going to be a big part of this game.
- 21:46Speaker 2: A Minjori did not participate.
- 21:47Speaker 10: He didn't participate yesterday, and that was McDonald was kind
- 21:52Speaker 10: of not sure it's on Wednesday night.
- 21:54Speaker 2: If he was gonna give it a.
- 21:56Speaker 10: Go on Thursday or not, then he didn't practice, So
- 22:00Speaker 10: we'll see, you know. One of the things that Robertsplain
- 22:01Speaker 10: said yesterday was at this point, he has so many
- 22:04Speaker 10: reps banked that like it's not necessarily that he has
- 22:07Speaker 10: to get out there to like get ready to play
- 22:09Speaker 10: in the game. Like he's he's ready to play in
- 22:11Speaker 10: the game. It's more about testing it and seeing where
- 22:14Speaker 10: he's at physically. But you know, am and Worry is
- 22:17Speaker 10: a rookie, you know, so that's that's a different ball game,
- 22:20Speaker 10: I think for than a guy.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Like explaining who's you know, eight nine years into the league.
- 22:24Speaker 8: So today they'll have their final report that will come
- 22:26Speaker 8: out at the end of the day.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Game status is yeah and whatnot.
- 22:30Speaker 8: But you know, people can still be questionable and be
- 22:33Speaker 8: a game time precision.
- 22:34Speaker 16: Sure.
- 22:35Speaker 12: I just think if Harold Landry's going to be inactive,
- 22:37Speaker 12: it's that's going to be a tough name to write
- 22:38Speaker 12: down on the inactive list from Mike Brable. With the
- 22:41Speaker 12: relationship they have, I think, I mean, based on what
- 22:43Speaker 12: I've heard from Rabel over the years, maybe Harold lander
- 22:45Speaker 12: the player that he is closest to, especially personally off
- 22:48Speaker 12: the field, seems like they're if they're very connected.
- 22:51Speaker 2: What would you describe it as critical? Did I do that?
- 22:54Speaker 12: Did I do a little bit closest to I'm just
- 22:56Speaker 12: gonna warn all our fans, like as the Mike Rabel
- 22:59Speaker 12: continues step, we don't have to talk like him a
- 23:01Speaker 12: little bit more. Yeah, it's wearing off on all of us.
- 23:05Speaker 12: I hope I can pick up a little bit of
- 23:06Speaker 12: his sarcastic wit.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I saw, Oh I don't have any of that.
- 23:10Speaker 12: I saw Pop Douglas and I popped out this probably
- 23:12Speaker 12: the perfect person to describe this, and he's like, sometimes
- 23:15Speaker 12: you don't really know, but then like then he starts laughing,
- 23:17Speaker 12: and then you know, but you know, Pop's always got
- 23:19Speaker 12: a big smile on his face. But you guys know
- 23:21Speaker 12: vraybel the straight face comedy lines, and then he has
- 23:24Speaker 12: that little smirk on him and you know that he
- 23:25Speaker 12: that he's busting chops again. Uh so it's now, it's
- 23:28Speaker 12: been It's been fun to watch.
- 23:30Speaker 2: All right.
- 23:31Speaker 8: Eight five five PATS five hundred is the hotline podcast
- 23:34Speaker 8: at Patriots dot com is the email address. We'll have
- 23:37Speaker 8: a lot of guests today. So our first, it's our
- 23:42Speaker 8: first one.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Our friend who, Yes, Robert Gallery's coming up soon. Oh okay,
- 23:49Speaker 2: I didn't know that. I didn't know that either.
- 23:52Speaker 8: Okay, yeah, he had a cup of coffee with the Patriots,
- 23:55Speaker 8: he did, all right, so uh okay, I didn't realize
- 23:59Speaker 8: that he wasn't on my list. But anyway, okay, all right,
- 24:03Speaker 8: let's get to some of these emails, shall we. Dave
- 24:07Speaker 8: writes in from the Hanshire. We all know Zach Korr
- 24:09Speaker 8: had to seriously step up into the DC role this season.
- 24:12Speaker 8: One thing I never see mentioned is that this was
- 24:15Speaker 8: his first year ever being a position coach in the NFL.
- 24:18Speaker 8: Really crazy that he survived and thrived essentially going straight
- 24:22Speaker 8: from defensive assistant to calling the defense.
- 24:26Speaker 2: I mean that is a big jump. It's a hite jump.
- 24:28Speaker 12: And I mean, you know, listening to the quarterbacks, you know,
- 24:33Speaker 12: Castle and Hoyer talk a little bit about Josh McDaniels
- 24:36Speaker 12: and what goes into his game calls and how he
- 24:39Speaker 12: tests things out and sees how they're going to react,
- 24:41Speaker 12: and it's just so much thought going on at a
- 24:44Speaker 12: different level than you know, us that haven't ever had
- 24:47Speaker 12: to be in the fire and call plays and look
- 24:49Speaker 12: at the play sheet and know what the trends are
- 24:52Speaker 12: and and so for Zach cor to be able to
- 24:54Speaker 12: do that on the defensive side of the ball especially,
- 24:56Speaker 12: I think as as Paul pointed out yesterday, where Sean
- 24:58Speaker 12: Payton's coming out and saying that they fooled us, Uh,
- 25:01Speaker 12: It's it's an outstanding sign and it shows speaks so
- 25:03Speaker 12: highly is Zach core his football knowledge And you know,
- 25:07Speaker 12: people have asked him a lot about like how it's evolved,
- 25:09Speaker 12: and he's usually a pretty tight to the to the
- 25:11Speaker 12: best kind of a guy. Uh, but you can tell
- 25:14Speaker 12: that it's a process to that that that's really hard
- 25:16Speaker 12: to do on the fly.
- 25:17Speaker 2: When you're not even expecting to have.
- 25:18Speaker 8: To do it, you know, And we don't know, like
- 25:20Speaker 8: I don't, well at least, I don't know exactly how
- 25:22Speaker 8: much involvement Vrabel has in the day to day working
- 25:25Speaker 8: for the defense. But if it's a lot, he's kind
- 25:28Speaker 8: of kept it under wraps Rabel, you know, like he
- 25:30Speaker 8: hasn't made a big deal about it. If he is
- 25:33Speaker 8: really involved, you know, Cour has been getting all the credit.
- 25:37Speaker 8: You know, we assume that Rabel has input, like he
- 25:40Speaker 8: has input and everything, but it's not like we know that, oh,
- 25:43Speaker 8: he's really the guy running the defense like Ben Johnson
- 25:47Speaker 8: runs the offense in Chicago.
- 25:49Speaker 12: That is that is a good point, Fred, and one
- 25:50Speaker 12: that you know, I mean, Rabel has been a DC
- 25:52Speaker 12: and you know in Houston, and so that I mean,
- 25:55Speaker 12: he probably does deserve a little credit to help, you know,
- 25:57Speaker 12: lean on him for that kind of stuff.
- 25:59Speaker 2: And you know, but veryboy, they just haven't really talked
- 26:01Speaker 2: about it.
- 26:01Speaker 12: I think it's fascinating to understand the evolution of understanding
- 26:04Speaker 12: play calls and all the detail that goes into it.
- 26:07Speaker 12: But they never really play with us on that, they
- 26:10Speaker 12: never really give us anything.
- 26:11Speaker 10: Yeah, I think that it's always seemed to be the
- 26:14Speaker 10: same in terms of like how you put together a
- 26:17Speaker 10: game plan and they divvy it up among the assistant
- 26:20Speaker 10: you know, position coaches. Those guys each get like a
- 26:22Speaker 10: situation or a down or a red zone, third down,
- 26:26Speaker 10: you know, first and second down that they study the
- 26:29Speaker 10: opponent on and they kind of divvy it up. And
- 26:32Speaker 10: it seems to me like a lot of it is
- 26:34Speaker 10: you know, on defense, they kind of all divvy up
- 26:38Speaker 10: and they come together and then Rabel kind of sits
- 26:40Speaker 10: at the front of the table, ahead of the table,
- 26:42Speaker 10: and they present the game plan to him, and he
- 26:45Speaker 10: kind of says yes or no and gives his you know,
- 26:48Speaker 10: two cents and little things like that that maybe he
- 26:50Speaker 10: sees and wants to tweak. But I think you hear
- 26:53Speaker 10: a lot more about Rabel helping with like actual individual
- 27:00Speaker 10: coaching of players, like technique and you know, uh, pass
- 27:04Speaker 10: rush moves or opposite you know, offensive line kind of
- 27:09Speaker 10: recreating what the defensive line might do against the Patriots
- 27:12Speaker 10: offensive line. You know, there's a lot of that conversation
- 27:15Speaker 10: that goes on. More so because You're right, dudes. They
- 27:18Speaker 10: don't give us a ton of insight into what goes
- 27:20Speaker 10: on behind the scenes in terms of the game planning.
- 27:22Speaker 10: But there's a lot of players that say, like he's constantly,
- 27:26Speaker 10: you know, put your hand here instead of your hand there,
- 27:28Speaker 10: and you know, like things like that that he's just
- 27:30Speaker 10: very good at.
- 27:32Speaker 8: Let's say, Jordan writes in at this point, I think
- 27:35Speaker 8: we've done so much prognosticating that there isn't much left
- 27:38Speaker 8: to decipher decipher in the game. Meaness take earlier this
- 27:41Speaker 8: week seems like the most realistic possibility. The Patriots defense
- 27:45Speaker 8: may be a little overhype, and the Patriots offense may
- 27:48Speaker 8: be a little under hype. I expect both to come
- 27:51Speaker 8: back to the mean in this game. Beyond that, we're
- 27:54Speaker 8: gonna find out if Drake May has that clutch gene
- 27:56Speaker 8: on the biggest stage. Trailing by less than seven on
- 27:59Speaker 8: the final drive of the A I ultimately want the
- 28:01Speaker 8: ball in his hands, give me the Patriots twenty seven
- 28:04Speaker 8: to twenty three and breaking the time with the Steelers
- 28:07Speaker 8: for the most Super Bowl wins.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Of all time.
- 28:09Speaker 8: All right, well, I hope you're right, Jordan. Hey, this
- 28:14Speaker 8: is Robert Gallery. How you doing good?
- 28:16Speaker 5: How are you?
- 28:17Speaker 2: Fred Kursh Hi, Fred, how you doing great? Paul l Evan,
- 28:21Speaker 2: Lazar Mike do so Evan Lazar.
- 28:24Speaker 9: Evan's over there. This is a large man. Yeah, there's
- 28:27Speaker 9: nothing will make you feel.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Worse about yourself than like a former NFL tackle since
- 28:31Speaker 2: next to you. Yeah, so, Hi, how you doing Robert?
- 28:34Speaker 2: I'm doing great.
- 28:35Speaker 16: Yeah, we're here here for a great cause of promoting
- 28:38Speaker 16: some stuff we're doing and excited to sit down.
- 28:40Speaker 2: If you guys, So tell us about that right off
- 28:42Speaker 2: the top. Yeah, So I'm here.
- 28:44Speaker 16: I start an organization called Athletes for Care, and we
- 28:46Speaker 16: partnered with dav Disabled American veterans at this dav dot
- 28:50Speaker 16: org uh, and we're bringing back the old ampute flag
- 28:53Speaker 16: football game. So tomorrow Cappuccino High School here in San Bruno,
- 28:56Speaker 16: we're gonna have some NFL veterans, some of some other
- 28:59Speaker 16: selectberties going against some disabled American veterans and just bringing
- 29:04Speaker 16: awareness my foundation, Athletes for Care. After my career, I
- 29:09Speaker 16: dealt with some you know, all the stuff that athletes
- 29:11Speaker 16: and professionals deal with, the lack of identity, who was I,
- 29:15Speaker 16: the depression and all that, and then topped on top
- 29:17Speaker 16: of that with a lot of brain injury I found out, right,
- 29:20Speaker 16: so that was making and disasperbating these symptoms and so
- 29:24Speaker 16: went through a very dark time and luckily came out
- 29:28Speaker 16: of it. I found some healing with a psychedelic assistant
- 29:30Speaker 16: therapy with iby game saved my life, saved my family
- 29:34Speaker 16: U and I did that with a lot of veterans,
- 29:36Speaker 16: and so this medicine I learned is something you have
- 29:39Speaker 16: to go out of the country to do, but it
- 29:41Speaker 16: saved my life. And so after healing, you know, I
- 29:44Speaker 16: was talking to other athletes and they were all going
- 29:47Speaker 16: through the same thing, dealing with the TBI symptoms. And
- 29:49Speaker 16: so that's why I started Athletes for Care and created
- 29:51Speaker 16: this great relationship, like I said, with dav through some
- 29:54Speaker 16: work we're doing for mental health and all things. Because
- 29:58Speaker 16: the two two communities acrossover a lot, right, The veterans
- 30:03Speaker 16: obviously do stuff life and death stuff, but it's a
- 30:06Speaker 16: lot of the same issues with TBI and and lack
- 30:09Speaker 16: of identity and all those things.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Yeah, so you said that it's going to be an
- 30:12Speaker 2: actual game tomorrow.
- 30:13Speaker 16: Yes, So they were playing a flag football game here
- 30:15Speaker 16: in San Bruno at Cappuccino High School, flew out a
- 30:18Speaker 16: bunch of veterans and got some athletes showing up, and yeah,
- 30:22Speaker 16: we're just gonna have a fun flag football twelve thirty
- 30:24Speaker 16: at Capcino High School. The gates open at ten o'clock
- 30:27Speaker 16: and it's a free event event, free event for the community,
- 30:30Speaker 16: with great support obviously from davuh so check out dav
- 30:34Speaker 16: dot org. They've been a big part of this, and
- 30:37Speaker 16: just come out and support these veterans and and we're
- 30:40Speaker 16: going to keep building this game. This game was played
- 30:41Speaker 16: for a lot of years before COVID at the two
- 30:44Speaker 16: Flag Football Game, but we're gonna bring it back and
- 30:46Speaker 16: keep keep following the Super Bowl.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Cappuccino High School. Their rivals are Dark Roast. I hope
- 30:52Speaker 2: they have good coffee, and I'm hoping don't forget down here.
- 30:56Speaker 2: We got it. Yeah, that's all right.
- 31:04Speaker 8: So I just Robert, I mean, I remember when you
- 31:08Speaker 8: came over with the Patriots and you had you know,
- 31:10Speaker 8: that that season there. I was so excited because it's like, oh,
- 31:14Speaker 8: Robert Gallery, Like there's nothing like a great offensive lineman
- 31:17Speaker 8: to get me going.
- 31:18Speaker 2: You know how, How was that brief time that you
- 31:21Speaker 2: had with the Patriots.
- 31:22Speaker 16: It was great. I mean, it was later in my career.
- 31:23Speaker 16: I'd come off three surgeries that year that was surgery,
- 31:26Speaker 16: you know, eight, nine, and ten, I think from my career. Yeah,
- 31:29Speaker 16: and I just physically couldn't do it right. I was
- 31:30Speaker 16: so excited to be in that organization, obviously with what
- 31:34Speaker 16: they've done in the past that you know, I had
- 31:36Speaker 16: sniffed the playoffs in my career to that point.
- 31:39Speaker 2: So it was devastating.
- 31:39Speaker 16: That was part of my struggle when I got out
- 31:41Speaker 16: because I wanted to be there so bad, be around
- 31:43Speaker 16: that team. It was everything I was had been looking for.
- 31:46Speaker 16: But physically, you know, and mentally, I just couldn't do it. Physically,
- 31:49Speaker 16: I was struggling. I wasn't a player that you know,
- 31:52Speaker 16: some of that's ego. It was wasn't the player I
- 31:54Speaker 16: was before. And and I didn't want to waste you know,
- 31:57Speaker 16: I went until Coach Belichick. I don't want to waste
- 31:59Speaker 16: your time. I'm not you know, my body just can't
- 32:01Speaker 16: do it.
- 32:01Speaker 9: So it was because Bill, Bill loved you. I remember,
- 32:06Speaker 9: you know, your draft class. You know, the Patriots were
- 32:09Speaker 9: typically picking at the end of the round and Bill
- 32:11Speaker 9: didn't give any information. But that year, knowing that Robert
- 32:14Speaker 9: was going to be such a high pick. He was
- 32:17Speaker 9: gushing about you and then sure enough whatever you know,
- 32:20Speaker 9: six or seven years later you get a chance. What
- 32:22Speaker 9: was that interaction like with Bill? And I know Bill
- 32:24Speaker 9: has a tight relationship with Kirk too.
- 32:26Speaker 16: So yeah, no, I've known that organization. Yeah that you
- 32:29Speaker 16: know Scott Pioli, he was around a lot. Still good
- 32:31Speaker 16: friends with Scott Pioli.
- 32:32Speaker 11: Uh.
- 32:32Speaker 16: You know, just you know, knowing what Kirk thought of
- 32:35Speaker 16: of you know, coach and and so I knew that
- 32:39Speaker 16: organization was run right.
- 32:40Speaker 2: He drafts the right guys. So you know, it was great.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Like I said, I was.
- 32:44Speaker 16: I wish it would have been under other circumstances earlier
- 32:47Speaker 16: in my career. But you know I went in like
- 32:49Speaker 16: everywhere you think, the next place, you know, next place,
- 32:52Speaker 16: and people were talking about I was like, this is
- 32:54Speaker 16: what I want. I don't you know. I want that structure.
- 32:56Speaker 16: I want what they have built in New England.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Uh. And it's just as part of the.
- 33:00Speaker 12: Story, Robert, do you have any thoughts we uh Let's
- 33:02Speaker 12: year we drafted Will Campbell, our left tackle. A lot
- 33:04Speaker 12: of talk about is arm length to you as a
- 33:07Speaker 12: former tackle yourself, have any thoughts on that.
- 33:10Speaker 16: I think that's people sitting behind desk and looking at
- 33:13Speaker 16: no disrespect talking about someone's arm length, right, because because
- 33:18Speaker 16: my arms were short too, you know when I came
- 33:20Speaker 16: out right, So it's it's one of those things. Yeah,
- 33:22Speaker 16: I also have whier shoulders than ninety nine point nine
- 33:24Speaker 16: percent of the country, you know. So I think it's funny.
- 33:27Speaker 16: I think it's something for people to, you know, to
- 33:30Speaker 16: talk about. Right, that's a lot of the stuff. Now
- 33:32Speaker 16: everything is talked about, right their shoe side, now it's
- 33:34Speaker 16: going to be their feet are too small, right. So
- 33:36Speaker 16: I think at the end of the day, it's putting
- 33:37Speaker 16: them in the right position, with the right organization and
- 33:40Speaker 16: the right people for them to be their best. So
- 33:44Speaker 16: take a guy and figure out how to use him
- 33:46Speaker 16: the right way with short arms. If you think that's
- 33:48Speaker 16: a real thing.
- 33:51Speaker 2: For you, sir, Yeah, absolutely, absolutely go ahead, Fred.
- 33:54Speaker 9: I'm just going to ask him how he got evolved now,
- 33:56Speaker 9: just you know, I'm just reading on here on how
- 33:58Speaker 9: much you've played and you're involved with the Wounded Warrior
- 34:01Speaker 9: futee football team.
- 34:02Speaker 2: How did you get involved?
- 34:03Speaker 17: So A long time from Chris Visser, a longtime sports producer.
- 34:07Speaker 17: His sisters Leslie Visser in the Hall of Fame. He
- 34:10Speaker 17: started this in twenty eleven and he saw an interview
- 34:13Speaker 17: I was done and asked me if I wanted to
- 34:15Speaker 17: be involved, and I was like, yeah, playing football with
- 34:17Speaker 17: NFL people, absolutely, let's go.
- 34:20Speaker 2: And so that's how it started off.
- 34:21Speaker 17: But then as we went for ten years, you know,
- 34:23Speaker 17: one of the things I wanted to do was transition
- 34:25Speaker 17: away from so much focus being on the amputees only.
- 34:29Speaker 17: I know everybody wants to help veterans and they love it.
- 34:32Speaker 17: I can feel it. But when we over exaggerate certain
- 34:36Speaker 17: injuries over just the service in general, you know, we
- 34:39Speaker 17: need to get more balanced approach as we have addressed
- 34:41Speaker 17: these men and women and quote unquote thank them for
- 34:44Speaker 17: the service. Because at the end of the day, I
- 34:46Speaker 17: mean I joined quite frankly, because the University of Georgia
- 34:49Speaker 17: Southern asked me politely not to come back after posting
- 34:52Speaker 17: a one point three GPS, and so I had watched
- 34:55Speaker 17: Legends of the Fall and wanted to be Tristan and
- 34:58Speaker 17: travel the world and fight. So the only people advertising
- 35:00Speaker 17: that that I saw.
- 35:01Speaker 2: It was the Marine Corps. So I joined up with him.
- 35:03Speaker 2: But I loved it.
- 35:05Speaker 17: I got everything I ever wanted from it, the people
- 35:07Speaker 17: that are closest to me, and then from this injury too.
- 35:09Speaker 17: My very first time in Boston was three days after
- 35:12Speaker 17: the bombs went off at marathon, and.
- 35:13Speaker 2: So built a great relationship. Mark Fuk rules here.
- 35:16Speaker 17: I'm sure you guys saw him with the Boston Marathon
- 35:20Speaker 17: survivors and just kept going back and and just such
- 35:24Speaker 17: a great community. And I think people forget like how
- 35:28Speaker 17: quickly we all came together when that happened. It's a
- 35:31Speaker 17: shame that we have to wait for the worst tragedy
- 35:34Speaker 17: to kind of bring our best selves out. And that's
- 35:36Speaker 17: what I think this game is going to showcase, d
- 35:37Speaker 17: av Bowl. It really showcases now how both the veteran
- 35:42Speaker 17: community and the athlete community, especially the NFL community, how
- 35:45Speaker 17: much we have in common. Right when when we take
- 35:47Speaker 17: our uniform, just like what Robert said, but putting it
- 35:50Speaker 17: together as a game and having some fun first, right,
- 35:53Speaker 17: let people get acquainted with each other. We developed some
- 35:56Speaker 17: organic relationships and then we can start talking about the
- 35:59Speaker 17: resource is and then trying to address the therapy. But
- 36:02Speaker 17: you know, for me, I know I might seem a
- 36:05Speaker 17: little off to other people and I'm missing a piece, you.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Know, there's my kids called a robot leg.
- 36:10Speaker 17: But I think I'm fine, you know, and I think
- 36:12Speaker 17: I have a lot left to give, and so let's
- 36:14Speaker 17: you know, as long as we can make some space.
- 36:15Speaker 17: And I don't want to be seen as a victim.
- 36:18Speaker 17: And as much as I see the gratitude that people
- 36:20Speaker 17: cat like, I just don't want it to become toxic,
- 36:23Speaker 17: you know. And so that's what I love about this
- 36:24Speaker 17: game and working with these guys.
- 36:26Speaker 2: That's great Andandy good good stuff they playing. Now, don't
- 36:31Speaker 2: get it twisted. You know.
- 36:32Speaker 16: I'm not my prime either, but you know, these guys
- 36:35Speaker 16: are great, right you that's a great thing. You see
- 36:37Speaker 16: these guys right that are missing limbs, and and how
- 36:39Speaker 16: they move and adapt to life. It's not a you know,
- 36:42Speaker 16: it's not a limitation for them, right. And then and
- 36:44Speaker 16: that's some of the hidden what we want to showcase
- 36:46Speaker 16: in this game too, is some of the hidden stuff, right,
- 36:48Speaker 16: some of the TBI, some of the mental health stuff.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Right.
- 36:51Speaker 16: It's not just the fact that he gets around fine
- 36:54Speaker 16: with that with that fake leg, right, it's it's it's
- 36:57Speaker 16: more talking about the other stuff.
- 36:58Speaker 2: And today it's real material. It's not fake. Yeah, that's great.
- 37:06Speaker 8: Well, it's great to meet you. Thank you, sir, and
- 37:09Speaker 8: it's great to see you. And you know, I'm glad
- 37:12Speaker 8: that things worked out for you.
- 37:14Speaker 2: You know. Yeah, No, it's great, that's great. That's what
- 37:16Speaker 2: we're doing.
- 37:17Speaker 16: I'm trying to showcase and there is there's things you
- 37:20Speaker 16: can do, and you know, you know, fortunately for me
- 37:23Speaker 16: things didn't end badly because it was very close to
- 37:24Speaker 16: ending badly and got through that and we're trying to
- 37:27Speaker 16: bring that to other athletes and veterans and people in general.
- 37:30Speaker 2: All right, well, thank you very much. All Right, we're
- 37:32Speaker 2: gonna take a break right now.
- 37:33Speaker 8: When we come back, we'll have more guests, more calls,
- 37:36Speaker 8: more emails.

- 45:05Speaker 8: the meantime, let's, uh, let's check out what have we
- 45:09Speaker 8: got here?
- 45:10Speaker 2: Okay, all right, okay, sure, let's go.
- 45:25Speaker 11: Fellas Taylor. Nice to meet y'all.
- 45:27Speaker 12: Like the biggest Mile fan outside of us. I feel
- 45:30Speaker 12: like anymore maybe more with the boys here?
- 45:33Speaker 11: Yes, sir, Yeah, Mike and I I would say fan. Yes.
- 45:36Speaker 31: I would also say that Mike uh Love's will a
- 45:38Speaker 31: thousand times more than me. And it's my it's my
- 45:42Speaker 31: duty in life. It's my drive to make us more friends.
- 45:44Speaker 31: So it'll never work.
- 45:46Speaker 8: I know most people know, uh, you know what bust
- 45:48Speaker 8: with the Boys are, and you know what you guys do.
- 45:50Speaker 8: But tell us your relationship with Mike and how that
- 45:53Speaker 8: started and all that.
- 45:55Speaker 11: Oh you want to hear our love story?
- 45:56Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, So Mike is the Hallmark champ.
- 45:59Speaker 11: Yeah, Mike. Obviously.
- 46:00Speaker 31: I was with the Tennessee Titans in twenty eighteen. Mike
- 46:03Speaker 31: Malarkey's gone. Who comes in Mike Rabel from the Houston Texans.
- 46:07Speaker 31: He's like the defensive coordinator. I'm pretty sure that they
- 46:09Speaker 31: are the thirty second ranked defense that year, and I'm
- 46:11Speaker 31: like Okay, what's this.
- 46:12Speaker 11: Guy gonna be about? Ye and meet him.
- 46:16Speaker 31: His expectation, his quote is always our best players have
- 46:19Speaker 31: to play at their best for us to win.
- 46:21Speaker 11: And so from early early on he was.
- 46:23Speaker 31: Very critical with me, very tough on me, very tough
- 46:26Speaker 31: on the entire organization from a culture standpoint, and so
- 46:29Speaker 31: you'd have like pockets of guys that were kind of
- 46:31Speaker 31: anti Vrabel that first year at the Titans.
- 46:34Speaker 11: But you saw like the way he would prepare us
- 46:37Speaker 11: in the rule of.
- 46:38Speaker 31: Three of having three team keys for offense, defense, and
- 46:41Speaker 31: special teams, and he would have this crystal ball of like,
- 46:43Speaker 31: if we play X, Y, and Z at the end
- 46:46Speaker 31: of the in the fourth quarter, will be in this
- 46:47Speaker 31: position and that's how you're gonna win the game.
- 46:50Speaker 11: So he always had guys so dialed in. So love story.
- 46:54Speaker 31: I don't know if that's what it is, but as
- 46:56Speaker 31: as a team, you kind of figured out, oh, this
- 46:58Speaker 31: guy really knows what he's talking about. Couple that with
- 47:00Speaker 31: him always telling you, hey, by the way, I played
- 47:02Speaker 31: fourteen years in the.
- 47:03Speaker 2: NFL, right, Like there heard about that?
- 47:05Speaker 11: Yeah, oh by the way.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:06Speaker 31: But it's tough, man, like when you get into positions
- 47:09Speaker 31: like for me. You start playing, you start having success,
- 47:12Speaker 31: you start making Pro Bowls. When there are times of doubt,
- 47:15Speaker 31: you'll look at a coach and be like, well, like,
- 47:18Speaker 31: what's he trying to tell me that I don't already know?
- 47:20Speaker 31: And that's just kind of the human nature of all
- 47:22Speaker 31: I've been doing this for a while, You're like, where
- 47:24Speaker 31: is this guy's credibility? And Mike Rabel sat in literally
- 47:27Speaker 31: every seat in the locker room. He's been a special
- 47:29Speaker 31: teams guy, he's been a guy in the fence, he's
- 47:31Speaker 31: been cut, he's been a captain, he's been in all
- 47:32Speaker 31: Pro g He's done everything. So in times of doubt
- 47:36Speaker 31: you can always lean on that. And guys are very
- 47:38Speaker 31: receptive here. No one the Patriots man, you guys have
- 47:41Speaker 31: been It's incredible. We went there and I'm talking way
- 47:44Speaker 31: too much, but we went to camp this year and
- 47:48Speaker 31: saw Harold Landry spelaying a couple guys that we played with.
- 47:51Speaker 31: You see Drayc's like, oh, he'll probably take a step
- 47:52Speaker 31: this year, but we'll get some culture wins. The Patriots
- 47:55Speaker 31: have like eight nine wins maybe, but no one expected this.
- 47:59Speaker 31: How credible the season has gone. That's the true culture
- 48:02Speaker 31: of buying from the guys a great locker role.
- 48:04Speaker 8: It is so one thing I really want to ask
- 48:06Speaker 8: you is because we were just talking about how you know,
- 48:09Speaker 8: Mike is fortunate to have that one time around where
- 48:12Speaker 8: you know you can kind of learn and then bring
- 48:14Speaker 8: the stuff that you learn, the good and the bad yep,
- 48:17Speaker 8: and you know, the stuff you learned from and bring
- 48:19Speaker 8: it over here. When he was with the Titans, did
- 48:22Speaker 8: he emphasize as much as he does now getting to
- 48:25Speaker 8: know each player and their out their lives outside or
- 48:29Speaker 8: is that something that he said when he got here,
- 48:31Speaker 8: I need to do that more.
- 48:33Speaker 11: Know that that's been a vable thing since day one.
- 48:36Speaker 31: Okay, Like he by the time we got in the
- 48:39Speaker 31: building for OTAs, he knew the chef staff.
- 48:43Speaker 11: He knew the film.
- 48:44Speaker 2: He did that Tennessee too.
- 48:46Speaker 31: Braves has always been incredible about having everybody who's in
- 48:50Speaker 31: that building like it doesn't matter if you're the starting
- 48:52Speaker 31: quarterback of the team or you're the janitor of the
- 48:54Speaker 31: of the team, like you are here to help the
- 48:56Speaker 31: team win. So he He's like, I'm terrible with names.
- 48:59Speaker 31: We're gonna walk away. I'm gonna see you guys a
- 49:00Speaker 31: two years. You be like Hey, what's one of my Hey,
- 49:02Speaker 31: nice to meet you.
- 49:03Speaker 2: We were nice love story.
- 49:05Speaker 11: Ct For me, it's just awful.
- 49:07Speaker 31: But Braves is a guy that, for whatever reason, he
- 49:09Speaker 31: remembers everybody's name. Makes you feel important. Uh, he's actually
- 49:13Speaker 31: a weird thing about Braves incredible with children. I had
- 49:16Speaker 31: two young daughters and he was so great playing with
- 49:20Speaker 31: them and having fun. I would play Santa Claus every
- 49:22Speaker 31: year for all the all the kids in the in
- 49:24Speaker 31: the bubble, and he was really good about that.
- 49:27Speaker 11: So it's impressive.
- 49:28Speaker 2: Man.
- 49:28Speaker 8: Yeah, he does a lot with the Special Olympics and
- 49:30Speaker 8: and all that, so he's been great. But we've got
- 49:33Speaker 8: somebody that we had lined up tailor, so we got
- 49:35Speaker 8: to get him on.
- 49:36Speaker 11: Do your thing.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Guys. You know you know Mike Felder.
- 49:38Speaker 11: Mike Felder. I don't know if I do know you, guys.
- 49:41Speaker 2: I'm not surprised, but I appreciate you popping in.
- 49:46Speaker 11: Your boys sprint it over.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Yeah, by the way, thank you for doing that collab
- 49:52Speaker 2: with us during training Cad.
- 49:54Speaker 11: Awesome, Hey, thanks for everything.
- 49:56Speaker 2: All right, to meet all right, busting with the boys
- 49:59Speaker 2: in the house. All right, get over here, get to ask.
- 50:03Speaker 10: Him about That's the only thing that was, how are you.
- 50:08Speaker 2: I know you only have a little time, Mike, You're
- 50:10Speaker 2: very busy, You're very.
- 50:12Speaker 32: At least we're going to show you how to do radio.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Where's the sunshine dot com?
- 50:17Speaker 8: Well, you know it's the song dark Cloud radio dot com.
- 50:23Speaker 8: So Mike, thanks for doing this.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Of course.
- 50:27Speaker 8: I have to say that. I you know, we go
- 50:29Speaker 8: back a long way. Yes, I remember when we would
- 50:32Speaker 8: do the crossovers. You were doing ESPN Radio on AM
- 50:36Speaker 8: radio and you do from our studio, and you and
- 50:39Speaker 8: I would get into some epic battles.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Of course it was good stuff.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Listen, Yes, someone has to come there and tell some truth.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, here we go. It's just.
- 50:50Speaker 8: So I listen. I love your show. It aggravates me,
- 50:55Speaker 8: but I do love it. I listened to it whenever
- 50:57Speaker 8: I have a long commute. So I listened to it
- 50:59Speaker 8: on the way home. And and here's the way the
- 51:01Speaker 8: felg the you know I call him Paul Show. Uh,
- 51:05Speaker 8: here's the way. Paul Show starts two o'clock. You come
- 51:07Speaker 8: up with a hypothesis, a conjecture. By five o'clock a fact,
- 51:13Speaker 8: it's written in stone. Whatever you guys thought might happen
- 51:17Speaker 8: by five o'clock is fact, and it's like so many
- 51:20Speaker 8: times I've said I got to call these guys straighten
- 51:22Speaker 8: them out. And the thing that gets me the most
- 51:24Speaker 8: is when, and especially last year, because last year was
- 51:28Speaker 8: such an s storm, you know, for us, you would
- 51:31Speaker 8: say things like, oh, you know, ownership is telling the
- 51:34Speaker 8: content team what to do, and I'd be like, oh
- 51:36Speaker 8: my god, and he has no clue. He has no clue.
- 51:39Speaker 8: He has no clue, Like, you know, what's what goes
- 51:42Speaker 8: on here? Never do my own content. If you can't
- 51:46Speaker 8: control the content, it's just okay. So but the things
- 51:49Speaker 8: that you were talking about, like oh, they left Belichick
- 51:52Speaker 8: out this because ownership told him to do this, It's like, no, they.
- 51:56Speaker 2: Don't get involved. But like he won't believe me.
- 51:59Speaker 32: He's telling me, well no, I mean maybe, Fred, you've
- 52:03Speaker 32: been at it so long you don't need to be told.
- 52:05Speaker 2: You just know I screw up.
- 52:09Speaker 32: You and John have the same brain. It's like, yeah,
- 52:12Speaker 32: I think the same. You know what you should do
- 52:14Speaker 32: and shouldn't do it. So but that's my point when
- 52:16Speaker 32: when when we mess up, it's my fault. No one
- 52:19Speaker 32: told me to do it, so blame me. No, Honestly,
- 52:23Speaker 32: blame because like I'm that up. Yeah really okay, yeah,
- 52:28Speaker 32: so I know where to go now absolutely.
- 52:29Speaker 8: Fred, Yeah, no blame me because I'm the one that
- 52:33Speaker 8: screws up how many years for the show, So we're
- 52:35Speaker 8: on seventeen.
- 52:36Speaker 9: For seventeen years, I've been telling him that no one
- 52:38Speaker 9: has ever told me what I could. I had to
- 52:41Speaker 9: write or I had to leave out seventeen years of him.
- 52:45Speaker 32: Just I don't believe because you know what, you know.
- 52:48Speaker 32: I hear other talk show hosts say it all the time.
- 52:50Speaker 32: It's like, I've never been told what to do. I'm like,
- 52:52Speaker 32: then you know what? Then you're not saying anything, Like okay,
- 52:55Speaker 32: Dale Arnold, no one's ever told me what to say. Well,
- 52:58Speaker 32: of course you don't say anything.
- 53:00Speaker 1: Why would a team program?
- 53:03Speaker 32: Why would a team ever need to check you when
- 53:06Speaker 32: you don't say anything.
- 53:09Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not gonna I get told all the time,
- 53:12Speaker 2: but this is all the time.
- 53:13Speaker 1: There's a knock. But this is where you're.
- 53:15Speaker 2: Right, Like on our show, there's certain places we don't go, absolutely,
- 53:20Speaker 2: but we don't need to be told that. We know exactly.
- 53:22Speaker 8: That's how we survived, so we okay take it to
- 53:26Speaker 8: the line.
- 53:27Speaker 1: They get brought back.
- 53:29Speaker 8: But we just know, Paul and I know how to survive. Yes, yeah,
- 53:32Speaker 8: But at the same time, you know, we give our
- 53:35Speaker 8: I think we do a pretty good job giving our opinions,
- 53:37Speaker 8: and they don't always line up.
- 53:39Speaker 32: Oh listen, You're not the softest team on the softest
- 53:42Speaker 32: show on the Patriots by a long shot.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Yeah, by a long shot.
- 53:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:45Speaker 32: Oh, I mean it's no I tune you guys, exactly.
- 53:51Speaker 32: Some of the shows in town are worse than you.
- 53:54Speaker 2: Here's the other thing about about your show.
- 53:56Speaker 8: So this is the little dialogue because I have a
- 53:58Speaker 8: long commute, so I do these things in my head
- 54:00Speaker 8: while I'm listening to you. So felgo jabs Patriots fan.
- 54:03Speaker 8: Patriots fan says out fel good jabs patience fan. Patriots
- 54:07Speaker 8: fan says, cut it out, punches the Patriots fan in
- 54:10Speaker 8: the mouth. Pag fan says, I can't believe you're complaining, mad, Bro,
- 54:21Speaker 8: Why you're mad? I think it starts with just I
- 54:24Speaker 8: know what you do.
- 54:24Speaker 32: It starts with truth, and then it's like, let's just
- 54:27Speaker 32: establish the truth.
- 54:28Speaker 1: They had an easy schedule, Like I'm.
- 54:30Speaker 32: Not that's not right. That's not a criticism unless you
- 54:33Speaker 32: take it. And so right, but you should see because
- 54:35Speaker 32: you've got it all year long. I'm sure. Oh wait
- 54:37Speaker 32: a minute, but it's really not that easy. Look at
- 54:39Speaker 32: the bills schedule. Well you understand, it's like no, no, no, no,
- 54:42Speaker 32: Lit's just it's an easy schedule.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Now, let's just move on.
- 54:45Speaker 32: But so when the folks can't move on from the truth, Oh,
- 54:48Speaker 32: they can't move on. So I love it. Oh you
- 54:53Speaker 32: don't leave it at that because they can't let it go. No, no,
- 54:56Speaker 32: because you'll they just can't let it be.
- 55:00Speaker 8: Well, if we had, we had a call to continue
- 55:02Speaker 8: to be poked, you're gonna continue to complain.
- 55:05Speaker 9: We had a call on this, on this rant, right,
- 55:07Speaker 9: Felgi's on his on his you know, from the one
- 55:08Speaker 9: hundred and eleventh consecutive day on the schedule, and a
- 55:11Speaker 9: guy calls up, this is you know, you know Mike,
- 55:13Speaker 9: what guys, guys, can we just like to stop calling
- 55:16Speaker 9: it an easy schedule?
- 55:16Speaker 2: Can we just call it a schedule?
- 55:18Speaker 32: It's not a hard sketch, not these gleges. Let's just
- 55:20Speaker 32: go to schedule. No, listen, so I get that. What
- 55:23Speaker 32: am I supposed to do with that?
- 55:25Speaker 1: Just let that go?
- 55:26Speaker 2: Oh you leverage it. That's what you're doing. Yes, and
- 55:29Speaker 2: you do a great job.
- 55:30Speaker 32: Someone's got to do it fro especially in times like this,
- 55:33Speaker 32: it gets can we swear here?
- 55:35Speaker 2: Do you swear? No? It's not regularly, but I know
- 55:38Speaker 2: this is not the off air show. It gets freaking goofy.
- 55:41Speaker 2: It does.
- 55:42Speaker 32: Like if you listen to a lot of the media,
- 55:44Speaker 32: we're just talking about the Warriors movie, or you.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Know, baking cookies, or you know they hate us cook they.
- 55:51Speaker 2: Hate us or what what we we got?
- 55:53Speaker 32: We all we you know, like, listen you want if
- 55:56Speaker 32: that's what you want. There's just a million places. Everyone's
- 55:59Speaker 32: our show, local news. You come to this show for that.
- 56:01Speaker 32: So I people don't realize that they need us. City
- 56:06Speaker 32: needs things that we.
- 56:07Speaker 2: Do save us all the time. Thank God for us.
- 56:10Speaker 8: Honestly, I listen to you religiously. You have a great show. Well,
- 56:15Speaker 8: thank I love so thank you.
- 56:16Speaker 2: I love you. Guys.
- 56:17Speaker 12: Can I ask Mike real quick, just give me a
- 56:20Speaker 12: little pip back at the Herald?
- 56:21Speaker 32: They need some for Harald. What was that like? Okay,
- 56:25Speaker 32: well he liked going down the street. JJ Foleys was
- 56:28Speaker 32: down the street. Every we go junk bawling lefty out
- 56:34Speaker 32: of bull junk ball pretty I mean, my my favorite
- 56:39Speaker 32: Paul pl stories. We have floor hockey inner Merle Bu
- 56:42Speaker 32: floor hockey. Our team, My team won like twenty straight games,
- 56:45Speaker 32: defending champion. We're just a fing juggernaut. And well Jim Brasso, uh,
- 56:51Speaker 32: who is Tom Brassos brother?
- 56:53Speaker 1: Okay, you know Hall of Fame goalie for the Penguins.
- 56:55Speaker 1: Jim Brasso was also intern with us at the Herald.
- 56:59Speaker 1: So you play Hockeyt's like in his DNA, right.
- 57:02Speaker 32: So Parlo recruits Jim Morasso for his team for this
- 57:06Speaker 32: are going for the second straight championship. They get together
- 57:09Speaker 32: at Teas Pub before they devise a freaking Ford checking
- 57:13Speaker 32: literally on a napkin jew out of Ford checking player
- 57:16Speaker 32: left and it worked. And then there was one little
- 57:21Speaker 32: dumpy stick that I always used that I was really
- 57:23Speaker 32: good with, and all the other sticks were different, but
- 57:26Speaker 32: I had I had this one special little stick. And
- 57:29Speaker 32: Paul figured it out and Jim Brasso figured it out.
- 57:31Speaker 1: They're like, we was just gonna take a sticky. We
- 57:34Speaker 1: can't let him have that stick.
- 57:35Speaker 32: So they got there like a half hour early, grab
- 57:38Speaker 32: the stick I couldn't get so I didn't have my stick,
- 57:40Speaker 32: and they put this Ford check on us and beat us.
- 57:42Speaker 2: And that's that's the one I remember. That's great, that's good.
- 57:45Speaker 1: More hockey the year, All.
- 57:49Speaker 2: Right, Mike, we know you need to get to your show. Yeah,
- 57:51Speaker 2: it's okay. Yeah, what do you see about the game.
- 57:53Speaker 9: When you're gonna have masks, you're gonna ninety seconds?
- 57:57Speaker 1: Are we all confident in the Patriots?
- 57:58Speaker 28: Well?
- 57:59Speaker 2: Confident? Uh? I? Cautiously Yeah, cautiously. It's gonna down to
- 58:03Speaker 2: the end.
- 58:03Speaker 8: Seahawks are a real good team, and they're well rounded,
- 58:06Speaker 8: they're balanced. It's not really a big weakness there. Everyone says, well,
- 58:10Speaker 8: you can make Donald seaghost. No one else has, No
- 58:13Speaker 8: one else has who.
- 58:14Speaker 1: Edited the practice video the other day, the Monday practice.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Okay, I'm only kidding.
- 58:19Speaker 1: That was so creatively edited it wasn't even funny.
- 58:22Speaker 32: There was a lot of passing plays, a lot of
- 58:24Speaker 32: great catches, but you could never really tell who was
- 58:26Speaker 32: throwing the ball. You know, it's the first time anyone
- 58:28Speaker 32: would have seen Drake may throw the ball. They showed
- 58:30Speaker 32: one shot of him just lobbing the ball in the
- 58:32Speaker 32: warm ups, and then a bunch of great little quick
- 58:34Speaker 32: edits of you know, great passes down the field, sideline catches.
- 58:38Speaker 1: But it was edited in such a way that you
- 58:40Speaker 1: could it could have been.
- 58:41Speaker 32: The Dutch machine, it could have been one of the
- 58:43Speaker 32: ball boys, it could have been Dobbs. You didn't know
- 58:44Speaker 32: who was throwing the ball, and like that is I
- 58:46Speaker 32: don't know if that's you that, but that's like that.
- 58:49Speaker 32: It was so obvious what was going on there. You
- 58:52Speaker 32: just didn't want us to see him throwing the ball,
- 58:53Speaker 32: which is fine, but this is one of those ones,
- 58:56Speaker 32: like let's just call that one. So that got my
- 58:57Speaker 32: intent up, like what they are really dicking around with
- 59:00Speaker 32: this injury thing?
- 59:02Speaker 2: That's you know, like that's an example, Okay, one thing
- 59:04Speaker 2: that people probably wouldn't know.
- 59:05Speaker 9: You've been on the Patriots for several weeks in a row, now, right,
- 59:08Speaker 9: I've been on the Patriots before the season.
- 59:10Speaker 32: Yeah yeah, but you know, and you like them Sunday,
- 59:13Speaker 32: but you wouldn't know what the tone is still the same. No,
- 59:17Speaker 32: it's not, of course not of course, of course not
- 59:19Speaker 32: of course not of course not.
- 59:22Speaker 2: I do like them. I do.
- 59:23Speaker 32: I like the points, you know, I do. I think
- 59:26Speaker 32: it's a one possession game. I think it's a bounce
- 59:28Speaker 32: of the ball last, you know, So they winter a little.
- 59:31Speaker 1: I'll take In the four and a.
- 59:32Speaker 8: Half, Garrett Blunt was on the show and he said,
- 59:35Speaker 8: in the playoffs, whatever you think is gonna happen, doesn't happen.
- 59:37Speaker 33: Yeah.
- 59:38Speaker 2: They were all, you know, something always weird happens.
- 59:41Speaker 8: Absolutely Yeah, Okay, but alright, all right, Michael the Great
- 59:49Speaker 8: Michael Felgar there he goes great.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Yeah, from Dark Cloud Radio.
- 59:56Speaker 9: I just wish I wish we had another ten minutes
- 59:58Speaker 9: because there's nothing like just sitting back and watching Fred.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: And go at it. You guys should have a show Fred.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: There was some legend was one where he was screaming
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: at me. I mean, so you're a liar?
- 1:00:14Speaker 13: What are you talking about?
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: We got it?
- 1:00:17Speaker 8: And then then you know, the show ended or the
- 1:00:20Speaker 8: segment ended, went to break and that was good.
- 1:00:23Speaker 31: Really good.
- 1:00:24Speaker 13: That's the thing that's I mean, you can tell, yeah,
- 1:00:26Speaker 13: he's excellent.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: I mean the amount of energy just had sitting down there.
- 1:00:29Speaker 10: It's like you can tell how he gets fired up
- 1:00:31Speaker 10: because he's off the walls.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00:34Speaker 8: I meant to ask him, you know, are you disappointed
- 1:00:36Speaker 8: you haven't gone national yet?
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: Is that a big dist point? Friend? Do you want
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: to say? Young?
- 1:00:40Speaker 13: Yeah?
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Yeah, this guy the next big So now we go
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: to the antithesis of our last guest.
- 1:00:48Speaker 12: I do want to hear, though, remind me after I'd
- 1:00:49Speaker 12: love to hear some Paul stories about Rabel going back
- 1:00:53Speaker 12: and forth with Felger, because I've heard those were some
- 1:00:55Speaker 12: were some fun times, and those guys see him cut
- 1:00:57Speaker 12: from a similar cloth. You could see they would have
- 1:00:59Speaker 12: a lot of fun getting into it.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: I didn't get to ask him any ball nowhere a questions.
- 1:01:03Speaker 10: If you had more time inverted, I would have been like,
- 1:01:06Speaker 10: so you didn't actually believe that there were two different
- 1:01:09Speaker 10: offenses that they were installing.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: That was all right? So joining us.
- 1:01:13Speaker 8: You know him from being the best beat reporter perhaps
- 1:01:18Speaker 8: in history of the New England papers.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: For ESPN, I mention the what's this? You're good? Sorry,
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: you're good? All right?
- 1:01:43Speaker 11: Mike?
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: Only you and I get that because we only got
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: we're the only ones that.
- 1:01:47Speaker 10: Go to practice, so they're not going to stand how
- 1:01:49Speaker 10: you doing?
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: I play that song there?
- 1:01:51Speaker 14: I am so great. This has been an amazing week,
- 1:01:56Speaker 14: a bonus super Bowl.
- 1:01:57Speaker 13: It's a bonus super Bowl.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: It's uplifting.
- 1:02:00Speaker 13: I'm just happy to be with you guys. I mean,
- 1:02:02Speaker 13: we're together all year and to be here feel special.
- 1:02:05Speaker 8: Yeah, you mentioned something last night when I saw you
- 1:02:08Speaker 8: at that welcome party.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: You were filming all access.
- 1:02:11Speaker 8: Well, you're filming a show for BZ for the welcome party,
- 1:02:15Speaker 8: and how you're your perspective of this one is different,
- 1:02:20Speaker 8: it is.
- 1:02:21Speaker 14: And I think for me, the joy in this is
- 1:02:26Speaker 14: that it's so unexpected, you know.
- 1:02:29Speaker 13: And and I think we all love what we do.
- 1:02:32Speaker 14: We love football, we love the games, and we'll find
- 1:02:36Speaker 14: joy in it no matter what happens.
- 1:02:38Speaker 13: Because we can't control the results.
- 1:02:39Speaker 14: We're curious and the strategy and how the team comes together,
- 1:02:43Speaker 14: and so there's always stuff to talk about and get
- 1:02:46Speaker 14: interested in. But you know, like the success matters too,
- 1:02:51Speaker 14: and and to be on this stage and to I
- 1:02:54Speaker 14: think I just and then not have been here for
- 1:02:57Speaker 14: seven years. You know. Everyone was telling me guys like, oh,
- 1:03:00Speaker 14: you know all about covering Super Bowls, and I'm like,
- 1:03:02Speaker 14: a lot of changes in seven years. Think about, yeah,
- 1:03:05Speaker 14: everything that's changed in your in your lives for seven years.
- 1:03:08Speaker 13: So it's it's it feels good beaming.
- 1:03:10Speaker 8: I don't know, if you know a lot of our
- 1:03:11Speaker 8: viewers are you know, kind of new to the game.
- 1:03:13Speaker 8: You know, maybe they started watching us. Uh, you know
- 1:03:17Speaker 8: when the Patriots started winning or all that. But yeah,
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: you know, Mike and I go back before that. You know,
- 1:03:21Speaker 8: you came to us up to Patriots Football Weekly from you.
- 1:03:24Speaker 14: Mass unbelievable nineteen ninety seven. Yeah, this was when we
- 1:03:29Speaker 14: had dial up connection and and and you would just
- 1:03:33Speaker 14: watch that little circle and I would say buffering right,
- 1:03:36Speaker 14: and and and I'll never forget first game nineteen ninety seven,
- 1:03:40Speaker 14: preseason lambeau Field. And We're like, ay, we're going to
- 1:03:44Speaker 14: start this new show, Cyber Sideline, Patriot Cyber Sideline. And
- 1:03:48Speaker 14: I'm with Fred on the sideline. At the end of
- 1:03:50Speaker 14: the game, he goes, just get just get down on.
- 1:03:52Speaker 13: One knee and say something.
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: We'll put it up on the website.
- 1:03:55Speaker 13: That's how we started.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that was it. Just do it, just do like
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: a stand up. Yeah, what do you want me to stay?
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: What do you want me to say? Yeah? Like and
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: that's Patriot Cyber Sideline.
- 1:04:06Speaker 9: And of course everybody knows when Mike left to become
- 1:04:09Speaker 9: a real reporter. I I I came and became a fraud.
- 1:04:12Speaker 9: That's not and that's con.
- 1:04:16Speaker 12: Since Mike, I'm curious your your experience covering Vrabel and
- 1:04:20Speaker 12: now covering him as a coach. You know, what were
- 1:04:21Speaker 12: your expectations of when he came in, and how has
- 1:04:25Speaker 12: he has that met your expectations or he's he had
- 1:04:27Speaker 12: been different based.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: On what you knew of him.
- 1:04:29Speaker 14: So I will say I enjoyed covering him as a player,
- 1:04:32Speaker 14: but I would say we didn't necessarily connect because at
- 1:04:36Speaker 14: the time I was a younger reporter and Mike had
- 1:04:39Speaker 14: a bite to him. Oh god, And and I would say,
- 1:04:42Speaker 14: you know, those aren't generally the players that I do
- 1:04:45Speaker 14: the best.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: With, you know.
- 1:04:46Speaker 14: And but I think when he was done playing and
- 1:04:51Speaker 14: got into coaching and I was able to see him
- 1:04:53Speaker 14: around the league or that, it was a different relationship
- 1:04:58Speaker 14: and I think we So that made me feel like
- 1:05:01Speaker 14: that when he came here that it would be fun
- 1:05:03Speaker 14: to cover him.
- 1:05:04Speaker 13: I thought it was going to be like parcels.
- 1:05:07Speaker 14: What has surpassed my expectation or something I didn't expect
- 1:05:11Speaker 14: was the the human piece, the compassion piece, the I
- 1:05:16Speaker 14: want to have a relationship with you piece, Like this
- 1:05:19Speaker 14: is not a one way deal where it's you're just
- 1:05:22Speaker 14: trying to extract something from him. It's no, he wants
- 1:05:25Speaker 14: to have this be a two way Street, which I
- 1:05:29Speaker 14: didn't know that that was going to be like that.
- 1:05:31Speaker 8: And I think he likes to promote the underdog, you know,
- 1:05:34Speaker 8: I know, I know, you know, he does a lot
- 1:05:36Speaker 8: of work with the Special Olympics. But even in his
- 1:05:38Speaker 8: treatment of Karen from day one, you know, Karen has
- 1:05:41Speaker 8: been a pro YEP in our industry for a long time,
- 1:05:45Speaker 8: but sometimes you know, she's a woman in a male
- 1:05:48Speaker 8: dominated industry, and sometimes she kind of got back seat
- 1:05:51Speaker 8: to a lot of other guys. And I think from
- 1:05:54Speaker 8: day one he kind of adopted her, as you know,
- 1:05:56Speaker 8: I'm going to go to Karen and give her the
- 1:05:58Speaker 8: respect that I think she does from being a pros
- 1:06:01Speaker 8: pro for for a long time in.
- 1:06:03Speaker 14: Our So this is a cool sort of behind the
- 1:06:06Speaker 14: scenes thing, and I think Paul Deuce and Evan were there. Freddie,
- 1:06:10Speaker 14: I don't remember if you were there, But when Mike
- 1:06:12Speaker 14: was hired, there was an early meeting that he had
- 1:06:16Speaker 14: in the media workroom with all the reporters that covered
- 1:06:19Speaker 14: the team. We all sat around a circular rectangular table
- 1:06:23Speaker 14: and we got to ask him one question all off
- 1:06:25Speaker 14: the record.
- 1:06:26Speaker 13: I think I think I'm okay sharing.
- 1:06:28Speaker 14: This because it's it's we're I think we're beyond what
- 1:06:31Speaker 14: are they? And the question was hopefully nothing like to football.
- 1:06:38Speaker 14: He right, because we're going to ask him a lot
- 1:06:40Speaker 14: of those. And my one question to him was, when
- 1:06:42Speaker 14: you were in Tennessee, why did you always lead off
- 1:06:45Speaker 14: your press conference with Teresa Walker of the Associated Press?
- 1:06:49Speaker 14: Because I was curious because I would watch his press
- 1:06:51Speaker 14: conferences and he'd be like Teresa, Teresa. Someone would try
- 1:06:54Speaker 14: to go first and he'd be like Teresa, and and
- 1:06:57Speaker 14: he said, he talked about that and then so we
- 1:06:59Speaker 14: came so that he had done that Freddy for six
- 1:07:02Speaker 14: years in Tennessee.
- 1:07:04Speaker 13: I don't think many people.
- 1:07:05Speaker 14: Really knew it because it was Tennessee, right, Everything in
- 1:07:08Speaker 14: New England is bigger, right.
- 1:07:10Speaker 13: But I think that really reflects on what Mike like,
- 1:07:13Speaker 13: sort of who.
- 1:07:13Speaker 14: Mike is like. It's genuine, it's authentic. I don't think
- 1:07:16Speaker 14: it's for show.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Yeah, he learns your names, He addresses you, you know.
- 1:07:20Speaker 9: Throughout the building for us because obviously we kind of
- 1:07:23Speaker 9: worked you know, directly with him, but he encourages the
- 1:07:28Speaker 9: players to get to know everybody, all the people that
- 1:07:30Speaker 9: are helping you, whether it be you know, you know,
- 1:07:33Speaker 9: people cleaning up in the in the lunch room or
- 1:07:36Speaker 9: you know, the parking lot guy. So whatever the case
- 1:07:39Speaker 9: may be, you know, get to know these people. They're
- 1:07:41Speaker 9: instrumental in your development. And I think that that is
- 1:07:46Speaker 9: the connectivity of this team is the thing that stands
- 1:07:49Speaker 9: out to me most.
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: And that's started with Mike Rabel when he's been here.
- 1:07:52Speaker 8: For one year and called us our department, the content
- 1:07:56Speaker 8: department out twice. I love publicly. I love it, you know,
- 1:07:58Speaker 8: and I've been here for thirty one years. That's never
- 1:08:00Speaker 8: happened before.
- 1:08:02Speaker 13: I love it, Fred, and I want to share it.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: You got called out, but not necessarily not for a
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: good thing. I like the carpet.
- 1:08:08Speaker 14: I also want to share with you a text that
- 1:08:09Speaker 14: I sent to a colleague of mine who had said, like,
- 1:08:12Speaker 14: it's nice that your team is back, right, and it's like,
- 1:08:15Speaker 14: not my team, but like the idea that you're back
- 1:08:17Speaker 14: in the year that you cover, And I said, the
- 1:08:18Speaker 14: joy for me in this one is that I couldn't
- 1:08:20Speaker 14: see it coming.
- 1:08:21Speaker 13: No one could.
- 1:08:22Speaker 14: I don't think anyone would have said super lying at
- 1:08:24Speaker 14: the start of the year. And I said, I really
- 1:08:26Speaker 14: believe in the connection piece and how they treat people.
- 1:08:32Speaker 13: And I would like to see more of it in
- 1:08:34Speaker 13: the world.
- 1:08:34Speaker 14: And so I think, to me, the joy is like
- 1:08:36Speaker 14: that this is being rewarded on this stage.
- 1:08:40Speaker 13: Does that make sense?
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: That makes total sense to me. Mike.
- 1:08:42Speaker 12: I love how you put it, because you're right. I
- 1:08:43Speaker 12: mean to see how much I mean. There was a
- 1:08:45Speaker 12: story someone said of Mike saying, you know, don't give
- 1:08:48Speaker 12: security guards at the team hotel a hard time for
- 1:08:50Speaker 12: asking to see you know, your credentials, those kind of things,
- 1:08:52Speaker 12: and I what you just said totally resonated me. I'd
- 1:08:54Speaker 12: love to see all of us work more like the
- 1:08:57Speaker 12: Patriots team has this year with that kind of you know,
- 1:09:00Speaker 12: treatment of people just trying to do their jobs.
- 1:09:02Speaker 8: And Mike, you know, I think the secret to your
- 1:09:04Speaker 8: success is that you've always you've always covered the team
- 1:09:07Speaker 8: in a very thorough and fair way. You know, you
- 1:09:11Speaker 8: haven't gone for the headlines as opposed to you know,
- 1:09:13Speaker 8: like Mike, Mike Felger, who does an amazing job, but
- 1:09:17Speaker 8: his job is to poke. Yeah, but your job and
- 1:09:21Speaker 8: you know, I don't want to put words in your mouth,
- 1:09:23Speaker 8: but I think I feel that you felt that your
- 1:09:25Speaker 8: job has always been just get the information right and
- 1:09:28Speaker 8: give people all the information that I have.
- 1:09:31Speaker 14: I try to do that, Fred, And I think if
- 1:09:33Speaker 14: everyone was like me, had it be boring. Yeah, so
- 1:09:35Speaker 14: let's start with that. Like, there's different jobs within the media.
- 1:09:38Speaker 14: This is this suits me well. I think there are
- 1:09:40Speaker 14: times when maybe I could press harder, you know, So
- 1:09:43Speaker 14: I don't think I'm perfect, but ultimately like the way
- 1:09:47Speaker 14: I've always looked at it, and it evolves. Right, the
- 1:09:49Speaker 14: media is so different from when you and me started. Well,
- 1:09:52Speaker 14: I'll tell you something. When you first started. I remember
- 1:09:55Speaker 14: when you were working for us at Patriots Football Weekly.
- 1:09:58Speaker 14: I said, you know, Mike, where do you see your self?
- 1:10:00Speaker 14: He said, I want to be the next Will McDonough now.
- 1:10:02Speaker 8: And I thought to myself, that's not going to be
- 1:10:05Speaker 8: because Will McDonough was all about settling scores.
- 1:10:09Speaker 13: Yeah, no, I don't want to do settling scores.
- 1:10:11Speaker 14: But does not sound like but but I do want
- 1:10:14Speaker 14: to tell you like and so so Will McDonough was
- 1:10:17Speaker 14: someone I looked up to because I always felt like
- 1:10:19Speaker 14: he could call someone and right and access the access
- 1:10:25Speaker 14: and then and so for Sunday this week, I tried
- 1:10:28Speaker 14: to do something that he would do, is talk to
- 1:10:30Speaker 14: someone that played both the Seahawks and Patriots, tell me
- 1:10:34Speaker 14: about this matchup?
- 1:10:36Speaker 13: What do we need to know?
- 1:10:37Speaker 14: And like I felt like Will did that, and Fred like,
- 1:10:40Speaker 14: I think the media has changed like since when we
- 1:10:42Speaker 14: all started. Right for me, what I look at it
- 1:10:47Speaker 14: and I say, okay, I want to connect with the
- 1:10:51Speaker 14: fan that invests their time, passion, and in some cases
- 1:10:57Speaker 14: money to connect with this team, to better understand this team.
- 1:11:01Speaker 13: And that's how I view my dress through.
- 1:11:04Speaker 8: And I think that's why fans love you so much,
- 1:11:06Speaker 8: because I think you do understand that it's all about
- 1:11:10Speaker 8: the fans. I mean, we don't have any of this,
- 1:11:13Speaker 8: That's exactly right, none of it.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: Forget about TV or radio or the games.
- 1:11:18Speaker 8: If the fans aren't watching, buying, you know, reading, we
- 1:11:23Speaker 8: don't have any and You've always appreciated that and it
- 1:11:26Speaker 8: comes through in your work.
- 1:11:27Speaker 13: Definitely.
- 1:11:28Speaker 14: I appreciate you saying it, and I owe a lot
- 1:11:30Speaker 14: to you from from Fred Paul, we probably have similar stories.
- 1:11:37Speaker 13: I sent out, Evan.
- 1:11:38Speaker 14: I don't even know if I've ever told you this,
- 1:11:40Speaker 14: but I sent out two hundred resumes to newspapers across
- 1:11:43Speaker 14: the country in nineteen ninety six because I wanted to
- 1:11:46Speaker 14: work at it. I wanted to cover a team anywhere.
- 1:11:48Speaker 14: I would have done anything. I would have gone anywhere.
- 1:11:51Speaker 14: Two hundred rejections.
- 1:11:53Speaker 13: One person called me back, Well ad I think was Strickland. Yes,
- 1:11:58Speaker 13: still Strickland.
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: Great. Yeah. He called me and said, I got this guy.
- 1:12:05Speaker 8: He's outstanding, you know, like work ethic blah blah blah,
- 1:12:10Speaker 8: Like okay, you.
- 1:12:11Speaker 14: Know and and and that came through a connection because
- 1:12:13Speaker 14: you knew a friend of my brothers. Who knew one
- 1:12:17Speaker 14: of your friends, Jeff, from that summer camp. So I
- 1:12:21Speaker 14: can't tell the story without saying like, it wasn't just
- 1:12:23Speaker 14: me sending a blind resume.
- 1:12:25Speaker 13: I needed someone to help me get my foot in
- 1:12:27Speaker 13: the door. To them take the call.
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: Well, listen, I think that's kind of a lesson to anyone.
- 1:12:31Speaker 8: You network network, network network, don't you know talk to people? Ah,
- 1:12:38Speaker 8: do the unsolicited letter writing. Hey, listen, That's how I
- 1:12:42Speaker 8: got my job with the Patriots. When the Crafts bought
- 1:12:44Speaker 8: the team, everyone was hitting up Robert. I figured I'm
- 1:12:47Speaker 8: going to hit up the oldest son. So I wrote
- 1:12:50Speaker 8: Jonathan a letter and said, listen, I'm in publishing. Blah
- 1:12:53Speaker 8: blah blah. You just bought a football team. Congratulations. It's
- 1:12:56Speaker 8: a weekly sport. You should have a weekly newspaper, remember
- 1:12:59Speaker 8: those I do.
- 1:12:59Speaker 13: And I loved it.
- 1:13:00Speaker 8: And over the course of ninety four we talked and
- 1:13:04Speaker 8: then they made the playoffs. You know, they had their
- 1:13:06Speaker 8: first playoff game for a long time. And at the
- 1:13:08Speaker 8: end of the ninety four season he hired me, that's believed,
- 1:13:11Speaker 8: to start a newspaper.
- 1:13:12Speaker 13: Two quick stories, Well.
- 1:13:14Speaker 14: First it was just a letter, that's right, and Fred,
- 1:13:16Speaker 14: look at it now, like, look at what you're doing now,
- 1:13:18Speaker 14: like it's amazing. And the way you've evolved with it
- 1:13:21Speaker 14: and grown and the staff you have.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: I am. I have experiented the platform. I love it. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: so it's going. I brought my friends across.
- 1:13:30Speaker 14: So two stories that stand out to me when we
- 1:13:33Speaker 14: when we started, or you were were I came in
- 1:13:35Speaker 14: ninety seven, so that would have been two or three
- 1:13:37Speaker 14: years after you started. We worked in Boston at the
- 1:13:40Speaker 14: State Street offices and I'll never forget being in there
- 1:13:43Speaker 14: and Vince McMahon of the w WWF comes walking through
- 1:13:48Speaker 14: and I'm a first year student out of college and
- 1:13:51Speaker 14: I'm working full time. I'm like, what is happening here?
- 1:13:53Speaker 14: We got Vince McMahon. I mean, this was like the
- 1:13:56Speaker 14: early years. And then the second was I love that
- 1:14:00Speaker 14: he treats football weekly. We wanted to we wanted to
- 1:14:03Speaker 14: do like special stuff. So ty Law was the big
- 1:14:06Speaker 14: time corner at the time, and we're like, let's make
- 1:14:09Speaker 14: him like Dion Sanders.
- 1:14:11Speaker 13: We'll make a cover shoot.
- 1:14:12Speaker 14: We'll get them all dressed up in a big suit
- 1:14:15Speaker 14: and we'll follow him around for the day and we'll
- 1:14:17Speaker 14: write a big feature story.
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: We did it. I got to write it, and it
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: was great.
- 1:14:23Speaker 14: He still remembers it to this day, and when he
- 1:14:25Speaker 14: looks at me, he goes, I remember you when you
- 1:14:28Speaker 14: were at the Daily Bugle.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: That's good stuff.
- 1:14:33Speaker 12: Can I can I share just a quick story because
- 1:14:35Speaker 12: you guys are sharing these ones, and I just I
- 1:14:36Speaker 12: go back to you know, both Evan and I we
- 1:14:38Speaker 12: got started out of the pure passion.
- 1:14:39Speaker 10: That you're talking. I'm not even sucking up here.
- 1:14:44Speaker 12: I remember, and I don't even remember why, but I
- 1:14:45Speaker 12: come back from California to visit, and I was at
- 1:14:48Speaker 12: the stadium and I lined up an interview with you,
- 1:14:50Speaker 12: and I remember sitting in my car atch Lette Stadium
- 1:14:53Speaker 12: thinking this is so cool. I'm gonna get to talk
- 1:14:55Speaker 12: to Mike Grease. He's taking the time, and you always
- 1:14:57Speaker 12: treated us with such respect even though we were I
- 1:15:00Speaker 12: was in nobody.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: I was just somebody with a passion for the.
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: Where it took the time.
- 1:15:05Speaker 12: And then you know, and so you just see how
- 1:15:06Speaker 12: Fred's story goes to you then goes to us and
- 1:15:09Speaker 12: the connection and it's it's it's great stuff.
- 1:15:11Speaker 13: You guys are awesome.
- 1:15:12Speaker 10: And but now, Mike, whenever you like say something, I
- 1:15:16Speaker 10: always get nervous that it's like, you know, like Drake's shoulder,
- 1:15:19Speaker 10: like you you you We were standing right next next
- 1:15:23Speaker 10: to me in Denver at the press conference and all
- 1:15:25Speaker 10: of a sudden, Mike's asking Drake about about his shoulder
- 1:15:28Speaker 10: and I'm like, what what do you mean.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: Let's wal with his shoulder? Like why is yeah? Yeah, level,
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: that's the level of respect we all have. Yeah, you
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: know and ask a nonsense question.
- 1:15:39Speaker 9: But even even going back to Felder, right when when
- 1:15:41Speaker 9: when Felder came over, Mike and Tony will kill anybody,
- 1:15:47Speaker 9: it's almost they.
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: Do those almost mad Yeah. Yeah that was in seventeen years.
- 1:15:55Speaker 9: That's the one time I've ever seen you get upset,
- 1:15:57Speaker 9: you know with that show and you know something I said,
- 1:16:00Speaker 9: but that just got they I mean they cycle through.
- 1:16:03Speaker 9: Everybody gets a shot, but they have so much respect
- 1:16:06Speaker 9: for the way he does his business that you even
- 1:16:09Speaker 9: your kind of off limits for them, like even for them.
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw you on too.
- 1:16:14Speaker 10: I think it was Tuesday, that following week after the
- 1:16:16Speaker 10: Broncos game, and I went right up to him. I
- 1:16:17Speaker 10: was like, he's gonna be okay, right, Like what do
- 1:16:20Speaker 10: you what do you know or something?
- 1:16:24Speaker 14: Yes, and so and so like for us talking like
- 1:16:28Speaker 14: like and this is a hard reminder for me too,
- 1:16:30Speaker 14: because things are moving so fast now, right, And a
- 1:16:34Speaker 14: lot of times were we're like this right. But Evan,
- 1:16:37Speaker 14: when we were in that postgame news conference, yeah, you
- 1:16:40Speaker 14: were right next to me. We saw Drake sitting there
- 1:16:43Speaker 14: waiting to go up right, And did you notice his
- 1:16:46Speaker 14: right arm and he was texting with his left hand. Yeah,
- 1:16:49Speaker 14: and and and that he was later that that was
- 1:16:52Speaker 14: what was that?
- 1:16:54Speaker 10: Usually he's pretty quick after Raybel and he was a
- 1:16:56Speaker 10: little later in Denver.
- 1:16:58Speaker 14: And so for me, it's like, get my head up
- 1:17:01Speaker 14: out of my phone. But it's hard sometimes because of
- 1:17:04Speaker 14: the speed in which everything's happening to you know, because
- 1:17:08Speaker 14: you do want to maybe put something out, but you
- 1:17:10Speaker 14: also need.
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: To I was there. I didn't notice it.
- 1:17:13Speaker 14: I mean, you did, no, And then there's plenty of
- 1:17:17Speaker 14: things I don't notice, Like I'll read Evan's stuff and
- 1:17:19Speaker 14: I'm like, for the first scheme, stuff that you know, like.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: Well I ever noticed the stuff that I worry that
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: you're helping the other.
- 1:17:33Speaker 14: And what I remember was one of the coaches on
- 1:17:36Speaker 14: the former staff that I was talking to was like,
- 1:17:40Speaker 14: if you ever have a question, just just read him first,
- 1:17:43Speaker 14: and and he's pretty dialed in.
- 1:17:44Speaker 13: And I was like, wow, that's a high compliment.
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: So thank you. Every Now you're embarrassing me. We're supposed
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: to be embarrassed. Mike Litt.
- 1:17:51Speaker 10: Yeah, but we got to ask him about the game though,
- 1:17:54Speaker 10: right we got the football.
- 1:17:57Speaker 13: Mike, Yes, al right.
- 1:18:00Speaker 14: Well, I feel like the offensive line is the key.
- 1:18:04Speaker 14: That's where I'm coming down to as I've studied the game.
- 1:18:06Speaker 14: If they can hold up, I like the Patriots chances.
- 1:18:10Speaker 14: The thing that concerns me as they're young and their kids,
- 1:18:14Speaker 14: you know, and and these are men. And when I
- 1:18:16Speaker 14: say men, like we're talking Leonard Williams tenth year, DeMarcus
- 1:18:20Speaker 14: Lawrence twelfth year. I mean these are men that have
- 1:18:23Speaker 14: been through the NFL, and I just that's gonna be
- 1:18:26Speaker 14: the first thing I'm gonna watch for.
- 1:18:27Speaker 13: Can they hold up up front?
- 1:18:29Speaker 8: And the thing about Seattle is it doesn't just come
- 1:18:31Speaker 8: from one place. It's very evenly split in terms of
- 1:18:35Speaker 8: where they bring pressure and when they bring pressure. So
- 1:18:37Speaker 8: it's not like you can like ease in and Okay,
- 1:18:40Speaker 8: I've got this now, because it's gonna come at different
- 1:18:43Speaker 8: places and they're not just gonna target the left side,
- 1:18:46Speaker 8: that's right, It'll it'll come.
- 1:18:47Speaker 14: To center, yeah, the right guard there, you know those
- 1:18:49Speaker 14: And Mike Rabel has said there he feels like they're
- 1:18:52Speaker 14: the best in the league at running those games, right, yeah.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: So, and I think bacication is gonna be key.
- 1:18:57Speaker 13: I don't know where.
- 1:18:58Speaker 14: And I think it's seventeen plays that have at least
- 1:19:00Speaker 14: a half a sack for them. To your point, Fred
- 1:19:03Speaker 14: about that, they're you know, it's gonna come from different
- 1:19:05Speaker 14: places in different.
- 1:19:06Speaker 13: Players, if I have that stat right. I don't know
- 1:19:09Speaker 13: where you guys stand.
- 1:19:10Speaker 14: But as I've started to think about the game and
- 1:19:12Speaker 14: then last year's Super Bowl, why I like the Eagles,
- 1:19:15Speaker 14: I was like, well, I felt like they could control
- 1:19:18Speaker 14: the line of scrimmage against the Chiefs offensive line, and.
- 1:19:21Speaker 13: So the Patriots, to me, that's the key. I think
- 1:19:24Speaker 13: they can.
- 1:19:25Speaker 14: Do it, but I think they're gonna have to play
- 1:19:27Speaker 14: their best game yea to do it.
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: And let's see if they can do the Super Bowls.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: The trenches are they get emphasized. It's it's the key.
- 1:19:36Speaker 8: If you think of any of the blowouts in the past,
- 1:19:39Speaker 8: it's because one side just dominated the line.
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:19:43Speaker 8: Even last even in you know, the game the super Bowl,
- 1:19:47Speaker 8: the last Super Bowl the Patriots won against the Rams.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: The fact that you know Brady you know, had you.
- 1:19:54Speaker 8: Know, he wasn't killed in the game like he was
- 1:19:56Speaker 8: in O seven against the Giants, that one that they lost.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: Allow the Patriots to just be patient, to stay in there.
- 1:20:04Speaker 8: They never had to like panic, yes, and then finally
- 1:20:07Speaker 8: you hit the play to Grenkowski and you score the
- 1:20:09Speaker 8: game's only touchdown. But you know, the line is so
- 1:20:14Speaker 8: important at Super Bowl, both sides.
- 1:20:16Speaker 14: And we've heard so much this week, so many interviews,
- 1:20:20Speaker 14: like almost too many interviews. If I had to pick
- 1:20:22Speaker 14: the one comment that stood out to me about the
- 1:20:25Speaker 14: game and that fires me up for kickoff, it was
- 1:20:28Speaker 14: from Mike Rabel when he said on opening night. This
- 1:20:32Speaker 14: is going to be an identity war on the biggest
- 1:20:36Speaker 14: stage because you talk about the Seahawks and listen to them.
- 1:20:41Speaker 14: Mike McDonald I sat in on him, was asked, how
- 1:20:44Speaker 14: would you define your play style? He said, twelve is one,
- 1:20:48Speaker 14: meaning like you only have eleven players, but we want.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: To make them feel like there's twelve on the other side.
- 1:20:53Speaker 14: And he said shocking, relentless, and you see that, and
- 1:20:58Speaker 14: that's and that's the Patriots two, right, I.
- 1:21:01Speaker 13: Mean is that fair or effort and finish?
- 1:21:03Speaker 14: So it's two teams that have similar identities that are
- 1:21:07Speaker 14: about to go like this.
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: So and knuckle up.
- 1:21:11Speaker 8: Oftentimes again in Super Bowls you see get so jacked
- 1:21:13Speaker 8: up ye at the end and this offenses get tied
- 1:21:16Speaker 8: all the time, you know, so you might see like
- 1:21:18Speaker 8: low scoring first half, third quarter, things start to you know,
- 1:21:22Speaker 8: you see some cracks and then things might open up
- 1:21:24Speaker 8: in the fourth quarter like they do in a.
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: Lot of these games.
- 1:21:27Speaker 14: I think defensively, my read and Evan, I want to
- 1:21:30Speaker 14: get your opinion on this.
- 1:21:31Speaker 13: It has to start with stopping Kenneth Walker.
- 1:21:34Speaker 14: Mike Rabel has said and that they are the top
- 1:21:38Speaker 14: ranked offense in third and second to five, So keep
- 1:21:41Speaker 14: an eye on that.
- 1:21:42Speaker 13: Like, if they're in.
- 1:21:42Speaker 14: Third and second of five, that means it's not going
- 1:21:44Speaker 14: so great. And if you can do that, I think
- 1:21:48Speaker 14: it gives you a great chance. Because I'm love I
- 1:21:50Speaker 14: think Sam Donald's story is great. Yeah, but I gotta
- 1:21:53Speaker 14: believe there's still something in there. I saw it against
- 1:21:56Speaker 14: the Rams earlier this season with those four picks.
- 1:21:58Speaker 13: Yeah, there's turnovers that are in there.
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: They're in there. Okay, we got they got us well.
- 1:22:05Speaker 10: I mean he literally led the league in turnovers in
- 1:22:07Speaker 10: the regular season, so you know that's possible.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: I've been on that the all week, Mike.
- 1:22:11Speaker 10: You know, this is a a run first offense, truly,
- 1:22:14Speaker 10: like they want to get under center. They want to
- 1:22:15Speaker 10: run the ball.
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:22:17Speaker 10: Their their heavy run team in terms of you know,
- 1:22:19Speaker 10: run rate, you know, pass rate over expected their thirtieth
- 1:22:22Speaker 10: in the league and that stat. So I went back
- 1:22:24Speaker 10: and actually watched Brian Flores in the Vikings and how
- 1:22:27Speaker 10: they defended them earlier this season, and they ran that
- 1:22:31Speaker 10: six man front like the Patriots ran in Super Bowl
- 1:22:34Speaker 10: fifty three, and they just put six guys up on
- 1:22:36Speaker 10: the line of scrimmage on first down and really shut
- 1:22:39Speaker 10: down Kenneth Walker. And if you can start to get
- 1:22:42Speaker 10: Sam Darnold into a drop back passing game where he
- 1:22:45Speaker 10: doesn't have play action, where he can't move the pocket,
- 1:22:47Speaker 10: where he's just expected to sit in the pocket and
- 1:22:50Speaker 10: make throws. He's susceptible to turn the ball over, and
- 1:22:53Speaker 10: he has been really his whole career, but even this year.
- 1:22:56Speaker 10: And I think that's that's the recipe, you know for
- 1:22:59Speaker 10: the Patriots d defense. If you can get them into
- 1:23:01Speaker 10: third and long and then you can start dialing it
- 1:23:04Speaker 10: up in terms of pressure, then Sam Darnold will could.
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: Will you know he could? I hope you're right. Paul
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: will do it?
- 1:23:11Speaker 13: Paul, What are you thinking?
- 1:23:12Speaker 9: I only hear from I the whole thing about Donald
- 1:23:16Speaker 9: I've been saying all week. I think he's had a
- 1:23:18Speaker 9: great year, but he's still gonna need to do it
- 1:23:21Speaker 9: again for me to not think that that multiple pick
- 1:23:25Speaker 9: game can come. You know, I don't know about like
- 1:23:27Speaker 9: the ghost thing or anything like that, but when you
- 1:23:30Speaker 9: put him under pressure, Evan had the numbers, he tends
- 1:23:34Speaker 9: to make mistakes. The Patriots have made everybody be under pressure.
- 1:23:38Speaker 9: Herbert Stroud and Stidham, we're all under heavy pressure. There's
- 1:23:42Speaker 9: no reason to believe they can't get heavy pressure on Donald,
- 1:23:44Speaker 9: So how does he handle it?
- 1:23:45Speaker 14: And it feels like Gonzo One, Jackson Smith and Jigba
- 1:23:49Speaker 14: is going to be a mashup and they might they
- 1:23:51Speaker 14: might have.
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: He might have a little help.
- 1:23:53Speaker 8: But yeah, and I just love the attitude of the defense,
- 1:23:56Speaker 8: led by Milton Williams in fact, in that they don't
- 1:23:58Speaker 8: think that they're getting the respect.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: Use that chip.
- 1:24:01Speaker 8: Go in there and you know, be the underdog, be
- 1:24:05Speaker 8: the people that are being disrespected.
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: I'm all for it.
- 1:24:08Speaker 14: Fred on ESPN, they had fifty eight picks, So this
- 1:24:12Speaker 14: is of all the beat reporters of the different teams.
- 1:24:14Speaker 14: Analysts hosts, forty eight pick the Seahawks, and two of
- 1:24:19Speaker 14: the ten that picked the Patriots were Teddy and Jason mccorty.
- 1:24:26Speaker 14: So I might say that it's really eight right, and
- 1:24:29Speaker 14: it shows you how truly they are an underdog.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: They're clearly underdogs in this.
- 1:24:35Speaker 8: Yeah, but I would say Seattle has earned the praise,
- 1:24:38Speaker 8: They've earned the respect there. You know, no one at
- 1:24:41Speaker 8: the beginning of the season thought they'd be like this,
- 1:24:44Speaker 8: but throughout the season they kind of just kept knocking
- 1:24:46Speaker 8: off wins against good teams, and I think they've earned,
- 1:24:50Speaker 8: you know, the right to be considered the favorite here.
- 1:24:53Speaker 8: But I think the Patriots have that Yep, that that ship.
- 1:24:57Speaker 8: I think Vrabel is an edge. He's done it at
- 1:25:01Speaker 8: all the different levels we talked. We've been talking about
- 1:25:03Speaker 8: it for four days now. In the biggest games.
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: Uh. And I think he's got that locker room they
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: listen to him.
- 1:25:11Speaker 8: I think in game, yes, he'll he'll understand the nuances
- 1:25:15Speaker 8: of a super Bowl, how that's different from other games,
- 1:25:18Speaker 8: the ebbs and flows, the timing.
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: Uh. And I think that's a slight edge of the
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: Patriot's favorite, not huge, Y's slight. Yeah and yeah.
- 1:25:27Speaker 14: And I think one another thing that stood out to
- 1:25:30Speaker 14: me this week was how much Mike mentioned Josh McDaniels
- 1:25:35Speaker 14: as a factor another in what you're talking about Fred,
- 1:25:38Speaker 14: how he his experience in this game. And I'm actually curious,
- 1:25:42Speaker 14: do you guys, would you say that this is Josh's
- 1:25:45Speaker 14: tenth Like do you give him credit for that twenty
- 1:25:48Speaker 14: eleven season when he was with the Rams and then
- 1:25:51Speaker 14: he joined late like.
- 1:25:52Speaker 10: You're talking about this, he was in the oc T
- 1:25:54Speaker 10: ten and a half maybe nine and a half. Yeah, Yeah, just.
- 1:25:58Speaker 8: Being around you know, just oh, yeah, that experience because
- 1:26:02Speaker 8: the super Bowl is a different game, it is, it
- 1:26:05Speaker 8: feels different.
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, well yeah, I was.
- 1:26:07Speaker 12: Just gonna say, in some ways, it's an interesting experience
- 1:26:10Speaker 12: for him. He's not calling place, He's sitting there watching, seeing,
- 1:26:12Speaker 12: observing more than actually having to. You know, it'd be
- 1:26:15Speaker 12: an interesting question how that might have influenced when they
- 1:26:18Speaker 12: got back in fourteen, just getting an opportunity to not
- 1:26:20Speaker 12: be the play caller and watch Billy Oh have to
- 1:26:23Speaker 12: do it.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:26:23Speaker 13: A couple couple things on my mind.
- 1:26:25Speaker 14: Just tomorrow will be the deadline for practice squad elevations.
- 1:26:29Speaker 14: I would expect Dearnest Johnson as running back three and
- 1:26:33Speaker 14: Leonard Taylor. So those are your two. Those are your
- 1:26:37Speaker 14: two elevations. And then I think that makes your inactives.
- 1:26:41Speaker 14: I know I'm getting deep in the weeds, but this
- 1:26:43Speaker 14: is our last time where on we'll make the inactives
- 1:26:47Speaker 14: pretty straightforward, right Like I'm gonna assume Robert Spulaine plays.
- 1:26:51Speaker 14: I don't know how effective and how much yep, but
- 1:26:53Speaker 14: he'll be up. I think Landry is Harold Landry has
- 1:26:56Speaker 14: been talking about him being up, So it's you know,
- 1:26:59Speaker 14: you think kill people. I do, and my thought is
- 1:27:05Speaker 14: that I do. I think, and that might be one
- 1:27:09Speaker 14: to close wear. Rabel's heart might over over competition, you know.
- 1:27:16Speaker 8: Like knowing the value of the deep roster on a
- 1:27:19Speaker 8: Super Bowl. I wonder if he's willing to have two
- 1:27:23Speaker 8: guys that may not be affected.
- 1:27:25Speaker 9: You could be in the middle of the first quarter
- 1:27:27Speaker 9: and those two guys are done for the day.
- 1:27:29Speaker 14: Yeah, you know, And that's such a great This is
- 1:27:31Speaker 14: a great conversation, and I'm I could be way off
- 1:27:35Speaker 14: and I love to revisit this after the game. I
- 1:27:38Speaker 14: think Mike is about the relationship, the connection the people,
- 1:27:42Speaker 14: and I think he would say I'd rather go down
- 1:27:45Speaker 14: that way with my guys than than Brayden Swinson and
- 1:27:51Speaker 14: and you know whoever the other person that would be
- 1:27:53Speaker 14: up if both of them.
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: If everybody.
- 1:27:57Speaker 9: Mike Reese saying that Harold land is up, it's going
- 1:28:01Speaker 9: to cause the rest of this panel to perhaps rethink.
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: This those what is he now?
- 1:28:07Speaker 13: But I just said, I know, I said the point
- 1:28:10Speaker 13: earlier in the show.
- 1:28:11Speaker 12: I said, it's gonna kill Rabel to have to write
- 1:28:13Speaker 12: Harold Landery's name down on that inactive card. That's exactly
- 1:28:16Speaker 12: what I said earlier. They're they're so close that might
- 1:28:18Speaker 12: be his closest guy on the whole team.
- 1:28:19Speaker 13: Can I come on next week?
- 1:28:21Speaker 14: And And honestly, I love this is the This is
- 1:28:24Speaker 14: the stuff I love.
- 1:28:26Speaker 13: Because I don't think these decisions.
- 1:28:28Speaker 14: Are made haphazardly like this and this is real and
- 1:28:31Speaker 14: I think this is what they meet about and agonize
- 1:28:36Speaker 14: about and build a team, and a lot.
- 1:28:39Speaker 8: Of fans don't really understand all that. They don't, you know,
- 1:28:43Speaker 8: think of that.
- 1:28:44Speaker 9: We had a great talk with doctor chow Or earlier
- 1:28:46Speaker 9: in the week, and it wasn't just about like the
- 1:28:48Speaker 9: internet stuff. He was talking about these decisions and how
- 1:28:52Speaker 9: I think he said to the boy. I think he
- 1:28:53Speaker 9: said to you, Evan, you know, it's going to be
- 1:28:55Speaker 9: awfully tough to have both of those guys active. But again,
- 1:28:58Speaker 9: that's that's or of just an analytical football you know.
- 1:29:03Speaker 9: I think the personal relationship side of this that Mike
- 1:29:05Speaker 9: brings into it might have some relevance and he might
- 1:29:08Speaker 9: look at it and say, yeah, Mike Rabel might say
- 1:29:11Speaker 9: there's a chance that I that I'm down two players.
- 1:29:13Speaker 9: I'm okay with that. Yeah, I'm okay with that. Because
- 1:29:15Speaker 9: these are the guys I want to I want to
- 1:29:17Speaker 9: roll with.
- 1:29:17Speaker 10: That, And they've kind of been rolling with four EDG
- 1:29:19Speaker 10: dressers to begin with, and you know with Chase On, Jennings, Ponder,
- 1:29:24Speaker 10: and then Landry if he plays. You know, last week
- 1:29:28Speaker 10: it was more like Johnnie Tavai kind of played a
- 1:29:30Speaker 10: little bit more on the line of scrimmage and stepped
- 1:29:32Speaker 10: in there.
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: So with Tavai, I.
- 1:29:34Speaker 10: Think kind of gives you that versatility that he can
- 1:29:36Speaker 10: play on the edge if he has to.
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: So if you have Landry active, is.
- 1:29:40Speaker 10: It is it really going to like really lose you much?
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:29:44Speaker 10: I think if he doesn't gets in there in the
- 1:29:46Speaker 10: first quarter and it's just not not healthy and he's
- 1:29:49Speaker 10: just not good, you know, Jennings and Ponder are gonna
- 1:29:51Speaker 10: probably play the most of the game anyway. So I
- 1:29:54Speaker 10: just wonder if how much of a sacrifice it really
- 1:29:57Speaker 10: would be to have.
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: Him up and see if he can give it a go.
- 1:30:00Speaker 14: I had one other thought. I don't know if you agree,
- 1:30:03Speaker 14: tell me what you think. This coaching staff reminds me
- 1:30:07Speaker 14: of the early two thousands coaching staffs that Bill Belichick
- 1:30:11Speaker 14: had with Romeo Crenell, and just like felt deep and
- 1:30:17Speaker 14: really strong, and I was a little earlier and and
- 1:30:21Speaker 14: I love that Tuesday night Mike takes them out to
- 1:30:24Speaker 14: dinner and they're all gathered around and they're they're telling
- 1:30:28Speaker 14: stories about the season. And I think they're a big
- 1:30:33Speaker 14: part of this whole Super Bowl thing because I think
- 1:30:36Speaker 14: every player on the team has almost improved from like
- 1:30:40Speaker 14: the start of the year, almost every single one. And like,
- 1:30:43Speaker 14: I just wanted to mention that, I don't know, we
- 1:30:45Speaker 14: were talking about how they're gonna use players like I
- 1:30:47Speaker 14: have a lot of confidence in faith in this staff.
- 1:30:50Speaker 14: Todd Downing was telling me he doesn't know if it's
- 1:30:53Speaker 14: He was telling me the difference between what he saw
- 1:30:55Speaker 14: from Mike and Rabel and Tennessee and now, and he
- 1:30:58Speaker 14: said the way he leans in to relationships.
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: Well, listen, we've talked.
- 1:31:03Speaker 8: We've marveled at the fact that almost every free agent
- 1:31:06Speaker 8: they've brought in, almost every draft pick that they've picked,
- 1:31:10Speaker 8: has contributed in a positive way this year.
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: That's rare. When you bring in a free agent class
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: that big, you're lucky if half.
- 1:31:17Speaker 8: Of them work out. You know, forget about injuries. I'm
- 1:31:21Speaker 8: just talking about, you know, just playing. And I think
- 1:31:25Speaker 8: exactly what you're talking about is why, Like he's tapped
- 1:31:28Speaker 8: into these guys and figured out how are they going
- 1:31:31Speaker 8: to contribute to our team and use them the right way?
- 1:31:35Speaker 8: And they're bought in to what he's asking them to do.
- 1:31:38Speaker 8: And I think that's helped have everybody be a positive contributor.
- 1:31:43Speaker 8: Like I said, it's very rare to have that many
- 1:31:45Speaker 8: new faces and they all contribute positively, you know.
- 1:31:49Speaker 14: And I don't want to look ahead because I want
- 1:31:51Speaker 14: to enjoy the moment, but I don't think we'll ever
- 1:31:53Speaker 14: have anything like it again because the expectations now are
- 1:31:56Speaker 14: going to change and next.
- 1:31:57Speaker 13: Year the schedule is going to be harder.
- 1:32:00Speaker 14: Got our guy, right, yeah, and and and everyone's gonna
- 1:32:03Speaker 14: be gunning for him.
- 1:32:04Speaker 13: Well to that point, Mike, that's why I move like
- 1:32:05Speaker 13: a Max Crosby.
- 1:32:06Speaker 12: I think we've all talked about and be like, you've
- 1:32:08Speaker 12: got to I've made the comparison to three. You win,
- 1:32:11Speaker 12: but you get Corey Dillon. You continue to raise the bar.
- 1:32:14Speaker 12: Don't let team settle in on what you got now.
- 1:32:16Speaker 14: Absolutely, how fun is that going to be to see
- 1:32:19Speaker 14: how they approach that.
- 1:32:21Speaker 13: I don't want to jump too far out, but it's like.
- 1:32:23Speaker 9: Absolutely good they're gonna need because this is, I mean,
- 1:32:26Speaker 9: as great as season as this.
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: Is, that there are some holes still to fill.
- 1:32:30Speaker 9: And you know it's easy to sit back and say, well,
- 1:32:32Speaker 9: we want a Super Bowl, we don't need to fill
- 1:32:34Speaker 9: That's what Kansas City has been doing.
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: You know. We we've had a lot of success. We
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: don't need to go all the way to to.
- 1:32:40Speaker 8: Try to improve, but also window to do it yescause,
- 1:32:44Speaker 8: Drake is still on his how much time you got
- 1:32:46Speaker 8: before you got to pay him? Right, Michael, Michael Reese,
- 1:32:50Speaker 8: love you buddy so much? A picture right now?
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: Okay, can take it.
- 1:32:59Speaker 13: I love it.
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: All right, Mike real one more time before we let
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: him go.
- 1:33:06Speaker 10: So last night at the at the awesome welcome party
- 1:33:09Speaker 10: that drop juter On. One of the best moments of
- 1:33:12Speaker 10: the night was watching No Socks and Mike Reave listening
- 1:33:17Speaker 10: to Drops of Jupiter by train and I got to
- 1:33:19Speaker 10: see Mike Reese watch live music in person, which was nobody.
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: The two of them were just beaming, just beaming.
- 1:33:27Speaker 13: So so how about that Craft family? Are you kidding me?
- 1:33:33Speaker 14: Like the support, Like, can you imagine if you're a
- 1:33:35Speaker 14: family member of a player?
- 1:33:36Speaker 13: I had some people come over to me after and
- 1:33:38Speaker 13: go I didn't have train private concert.
- 1:33:41Speaker 14: On my private Bingo card, you know, I mean, so
- 1:33:45Speaker 14: how about that?
- 1:33:46Speaker 13: And then and and Evan. That was team for me,
- 1:33:50Speaker 13: like because I like, we got to get.
- 1:33:52Speaker 14: Out to every show where I can take off the
- 1:33:55Speaker 14: sport jacket with me.
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: At Berry Man, I was, I.
- 1:33:58Speaker 13: Was with Barry, haven't you guys are the best?
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: Mike's like, you know, body surfing at the Worcester Center.
- 1:34:07Speaker 13: Just between us. So we got the games Sunday.
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: I love that.
- 1:34:11Speaker 13: Next Sunday new edition at t D Garden. Who is
- 1:34:14Speaker 13: gonna let off some steps and I'm gonna go see it.

- 1:34:21Speaker 2: it's good for you. All right, Mike, thanks again. Ready,

- 1:43:43Speaker 8: All right back here at Patriots Unfiltered Day four at
- 1:43:46Speaker 8: Radio Row. I told you it was going to be
- 1:43:49Speaker 8: an action pack day, and I hope we haven't disappointed.
- 1:43:51Speaker 8: We had Mike Felger, We had the great Mike Breeze
- 1:43:53Speaker 8: from ESPN, and we've got more people lined up, so, uh,
- 1:43:58Speaker 8: the guests are gonna keep going on. We're here in
- 1:44:00Speaker 8: untill two o'clock Local time, five o'clock Eastern time. So
- 1:44:05Speaker 8: it's Evan, it's Deuce, it's me, it's Paul, it's Anthony,
- 1:44:09Speaker 8: it's Matt.
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: In the background.
- 1:44:11Speaker 8: Matista is getting guests, taking your calls and emails. It's
- 1:44:14Speaker 8: eight five five PATS five hundred is the hotline podcast
- 1:44:18Speaker 8: at Patriots dot com is the email address.
- 1:44:20Speaker 2: So, well, what we just did, like back to back
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: to back, it's good. Star of use.
- 1:44:26Speaker 8: Yeah, this is great, great way to cap off the week.
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: A lot of energy, yeah, Felder and ree Spring energy. Yeah.
- 1:44:34Speaker 8: And I like what Mike said. I I agree the
- 1:44:37Speaker 8: line has to hold up. Yeah, you know for the Patriots,
- 1:44:40Speaker 8: but also for the Seahawks. I mean, if I'm the Seahawks,
- 1:44:44Speaker 8: I'm thinking the same.
- 1:44:45Speaker 2: Thing, you know, especially their interior offense.
- 1:44:48Speaker 10: I don't think the Patriots offensive line needs to like
- 1:44:51Speaker 10: win or dominate this matchup. They need to they need
- 1:44:54Speaker 10: to survive it, like they just need to hold on,
- 1:44:56Speaker 10: you know. And he gave Drake at least a handful
- 1:44:59Speaker 10: of Queen where he can try to push the ball
- 1:45:01Speaker 10: down the field. I'll say it again, though, I think
- 1:45:04Speaker 10: in this game, I think he's kind of gotten away
- 1:45:07Speaker 10: from using his legs to buy time in the pocket
- 1:45:11Speaker 10: and then throwing you know, off of the you know,
- 1:45:14Speaker 10: out of structure, off platform, whatever you want to call it.
- 1:45:17Speaker 10: He did that so many times during the regular season,
- 1:45:20Speaker 10: where you know he's sliding up in the pocket, the
- 1:45:23Speaker 10: skipping rip, you know, all that kind of stuff. I'd
- 1:45:25Speaker 10: love to see that come back, especially with the way
- 1:45:27Speaker 10: that they usually only rush for you know, there should
- 1:45:30Speaker 10: be some space, you know, to maneuver in there to.
- 1:45:33Speaker 2: Try to help out the line.
- 1:45:34Speaker 10: But if the Lion can just weather the storm that
- 1:45:36Speaker 10: Seattle's going to send at them, then they should have
- 1:45:38Speaker 10: some opportunities.
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: All right, let's get to some phone calls.
- 1:45:41Speaker 8: We haven't had had a chance to do that, so
- 1:45:44Speaker 8: I hope people that have been holding on are still
- 1:45:46Speaker 8: holding on.
- 1:45:47Speaker 2: Brad has been holding on the longest, So we'll go
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: to you first. Brad's in Ohio. What's up? Brad?
- 1:45:53Speaker 33: Hello, guys, Hey.
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: Wow, thanks for holding on. What's up?
- 1:46:01Speaker 33: You know you've had some wonderful guests today, so hey,
- 1:46:05Speaker 33: I can hold on for them and I got some
- 1:46:07Speaker 33: free times today anyway, Okay, but anyway, I just first
- 1:46:11Speaker 33: I wanted to tell you all thank you, and certainly
- 1:46:15Speaker 33: Mike and Felger and everyone needs a devil's advocate, you know.
- 1:46:20Speaker 33: So Felger's a good one of those when it comes
- 1:46:23Speaker 33: to having a difference of opinion, you know, at all times,
- 1:46:26Speaker 33: and so and then you know, and I wanted to
- 1:46:30Speaker 33: tell all of you thank you for the week. I mean,
- 1:46:34Speaker 33: I haven't had to call because every time I wanted
- 1:46:37Speaker 33: to call to ask something, you would get a caller
- 1:46:40Speaker 33: or an emailer that would cover the basis. So you know,
- 1:46:45Speaker 33: it's it's been a great week of information and you've
- 1:46:49Speaker 33: all done a wonderful job. The staff, the guy you know,
- 1:46:52Speaker 33: the answers, the phone for you, the technician guy, all
- 1:46:57Speaker 33: of you. I just want to tell you thanks for
- 1:46:58Speaker 33: the season, you know, getting to this point.
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: Appreciate it.
- 1:47:05Speaker 33: Oh yeah, you know, you're great. H So, anyway, I
- 1:47:08Speaker 33: just got a couple questions and I just want to
- 1:47:11Speaker 33: see what you guys saying real quick on the game plan.
- 1:47:14Speaker 33: I know it's been passed over a hundred times, but
- 1:47:18Speaker 33: this is I'm thinking of something that I heard Evan
- 1:47:22Speaker 33: and Kyle stayed today Tayla, and it was about how
- 1:47:28Speaker 33: they doubled j SN Kyle to t Taylor Kyle on
- 1:47:33Speaker 33: some movie on the.
- 1:47:37Speaker 10: Live stream to see on this movie.
- 1:47:43Speaker 33: Yeah, and uh, and they were talking about double and
- 1:47:47Speaker 33: j s N and and my theory is, and I
- 1:47:50Speaker 33: hope they take this or at least, you know, you know,
- 1:47:54Speaker 33: think about it. H is to vary that. And I
- 1:47:59Speaker 33: don't mean down, not only just down to down, but
- 1:48:03Speaker 33: you know, like situation and different types of coverages too.
- 1:48:09Speaker 33: Like they were saying, I think if they do that
- 1:48:12Speaker 33: and confused Darnald to where he can't never say definitively,
- 1:48:16Speaker 33: hey I'm going to JF you know, make him second guess.
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: Sure, yep, Yeah, that's what I like that, Brad. That's
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: a great job.
- 1:48:25Speaker 12: I think I said yesterday saw a fair amount of
- 1:48:27Speaker 12: mistakes on some of those situations. Certainly somewhere JSN shakes
- 1:48:31Speaker 12: loose because he's too quick to cover forever and Darnald
- 1:48:33Speaker 12: found him, but also ones where he's looking for JSN
- 1:48:36Speaker 12: early it's not there, and it's kind of.
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: Like, uh, you know, stupid throw.
- 1:48:41Speaker 10: Yeah, I think you definitely want to change up coverages
- 1:48:45Speaker 10: against a guy like Donald against most quarterbacks. But you know,
- 1:48:49Speaker 10: like I said, I think yesterday, the thing that I've
- 1:48:51Speaker 10: seen have the most success against JSN is getting physical
- 1:48:55Speaker 10: with him at the line of scrimmage and then putting
- 1:48:57Speaker 10: a safety over the top behind the corner so that
- 1:48:59Speaker 10: at the corner misses at the line of scrimmage, he
- 1:49:01Speaker 10: has help over the top because what jays ends so
- 1:49:04Speaker 10: quick at the line that you try to throw that
- 1:49:06Speaker 10: jam and he's just right around you and then he's
- 1:49:08Speaker 10: up the field. So if you don't have the safety
- 1:49:10Speaker 10: help over the top, then you're just you're burned right
- 1:49:12Speaker 10: at that point.
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: But what they would call it in football.
- 1:49:15Speaker 10: Parlance is cloud coverage, right where you have a guy
- 1:49:18Speaker 10: underneath him and then you have the cloud over the
- 1:49:20Speaker 10: top of him. And if I have seen them, teams
- 1:49:22Speaker 10: have a you know, monogama success. I mean, the guy
- 1:49:25Speaker 10: is just one offensive player of the year, get yeah.
- 1:49:27Speaker 10: But I think that the question then, you know, for
- 1:49:30Speaker 10: for the group is just if you do that, like putting,
- 1:49:33Speaker 10: do you still put Gonzo on him as the guy
- 1:49:36Speaker 10: on the underneath at the line of scrimmage or is
- 1:49:38Speaker 10: that Carlton Davis a little more physical and maybe Gonzalez
- 1:49:42Speaker 10: is one on one with Cooper Cup on the other side.
- 1:49:44Speaker 8: You can't paint with a broad brush. I think you
- 1:49:47Speaker 8: have to look at at it situationally. Yeah, And I
- 1:49:49Speaker 8: think like, like, let's just say seahattles in along a
- 1:49:53Speaker 8: third and long, like third and ten or something like that.
- 1:49:56Speaker 8: You know, if JSN is going to run an underneath route,
- 1:50:00Speaker 8: like okay, let's we'll give him that. Yeah, you know,
- 1:50:03Speaker 8: but if he's you know, if he's gonna go in
- 1:50:05Speaker 8: the stick, now, I'm gonna use double on him because
- 1:50:07Speaker 8: I don't want him to beat me on third and long.
- 1:50:10Speaker 8: I think it you have to play it by the
- 1:50:12Speaker 8: situation on how you're gonna deal with him.
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that.
- 1:50:15Speaker 21: You know.
- 1:50:15Speaker 10: The one thing that I would add is just teams
- 1:50:18Speaker 10: that try to inside out him have not had a
- 1:50:21Speaker 10: lot of success with that because he has a deceptive
- 1:50:25Speaker 10: vertical speed. So like usually when you see those like
- 1:50:27Speaker 10: inside out or cone brackets where there's one guy inside
- 1:50:30Speaker 10: of him and one guy outside of him, the the
- 1:50:33Speaker 10: kryptonite to that is just to split it right up
- 1:50:35Speaker 10: the middle and just run right through it. And Jaysen,
- 1:50:38Speaker 10: you know, doesn't necessarily pop off. The film with you like,
- 1:50:41Speaker 10: you know, like a Rashisa. He does in terms of
- 1:50:43Speaker 10: his speed, but he's deceptively fast, and so he'll just
- 1:50:47Speaker 10: split those double teams. So that's why the kind of
- 1:50:49Speaker 10: over under is what we would call it with there's
- 1:50:52Speaker 10: one guy underneath and there's one guy over the top
- 1:50:54Speaker 10: has been a little bit more successful. But then you know,
- 1:50:58Speaker 10: it will come down to whu Cup's gonna be one
- 1:51:01Speaker 10: on one. AJ partner is gonna be one on one,
- 1:51:03Speaker 10: you know, if she Heed's on the field or whatever,
- 1:51:05Speaker 10: the third receiver is on the field, that guy is
- 1:51:07Speaker 10: gonna be one on one.
- 1:51:09Speaker 2: So the other people are gonna be just as important
- 1:51:11Speaker 2: that they're gonna have to win those matchs.
- 1:51:13Speaker 12: You know, just real quick for some I don't think
- 1:51:15Speaker 12: anybody's been talking about Paul is using.
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: Is there a role for Marcus Jones at all? With jsaid?
- 1:51:20Speaker 12: Is there anything you can do with a sticky little
- 1:51:23Speaker 12: I mean, I know he's not gonna jam him at
- 1:51:25Speaker 12: the line.
- 1:51:25Speaker 13: But in terms of quarterback corner cornerback quickness, Marcus.
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: Jones is up there.
- 1:51:30Speaker 12: I don't know, I'm just kind of throwing it out there,
- 1:51:32Speaker 12: but you know, maybe it's we talked a little bit.
- 1:51:33Speaker 2: Maybe he plays a little safety role. I don't know.
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: I just I think Marcus Jones is.
- 1:51:37Speaker 12: Still a useful tool and Chance said is not the
- 1:51:39Speaker 12: biggest guy, so maybe maybe there's something there.
- 1:51:42Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:51:42Speaker 10: I think on third down, you know, he does play
- 1:51:44Speaker 10: kick inside a little bit, not as much this year,
- 1:51:46Speaker 10: but they use so many tighter condensed formations that like,
- 1:51:50Speaker 10: even when he's out wide, he's still inside in a
- 1:51:53Speaker 10: lot of ways. So Marcus Jones, I think on third down,
- 1:51:57Speaker 10: you know, there are gonna be chances where he's gonna
- 1:51:59Speaker 10: be in the slot.
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: JSN is going to be in the slot.
- 1:52:02Speaker 10: And the Patriots all year long haven't really messed with
- 1:52:05Speaker 10: their structure like they haven't really put Gonzales inside when
- 1:52:09Speaker 10: the receiver travels inside. So if Jayson lines up in
- 1:52:12Speaker 10: the slot and third down, I I do expect Marcus
- 1:52:14Speaker 10: Jones to be on him in those kids situations.
- 1:52:16Speaker 8: And you know, part of the job is you're not
- 1:52:19Speaker 8: gonna defense every pass.
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: You know he's gonna get his catches.
- 1:52:23Speaker 8: It's limiting the yards after catch, and Marcus Jones is
- 1:52:27Speaker 8: pretty good at that.
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: I remember there was a.
- 1:52:29Speaker 8: Game you know where uh, you know, his job inside
- 1:52:33Speaker 8: was just to make sure tyreek Hill didn't, you know,
- 1:52:36Speaker 8: break away after the Cat and I think he can
- 1:52:39Speaker 8: be effective.
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: In that role.
- 1:52:41Speaker 8: Yeah, ye, all right, Let's go to Todd and Garner.
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: What's up Todd? Todd? You there? Todd was holding Todd Todd.
- 1:52:54Speaker 8: Yeah, people have lives. I guess let's go to David
- 1:52:59Speaker 8: in New York. What's up David? Damn, David. I don't
- 1:53:06Speaker 8: think he's in the bat. I'm sorry, that's not New York.
- 1:53:09Speaker 8: Maybe now we'll be there. No David, No, David, David. Okay,
- 1:53:14Speaker 8: how about Jurgen in Los Angeles?
- 1:53:17Speaker 2: What's up?
- 1:53:20Speaker 11: Hey?
- 1:53:21Speaker 35: What's going on?
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: A hell? How are we doing?
- 1:53:24Speaker 35: Can you hear me?
- 1:53:25Speaker 2: Fred? Great? Phone?
- 1:53:27Speaker 33: Perfect?
- 1:53:27Speaker 35: Awesome, Love you guys, first time, long time, been following
- 1:53:32Speaker 35: the guys in Field. I probably even listened to Peach
- 1:53:34Speaker 35: Shepherd maybe once.
- 1:53:35Speaker 2: They're Shepherd there you go.
- 1:53:40Speaker 35: What I wanted to ask is so I was listening
- 1:53:42Speaker 35: to the h It might have been James with Names.
- 1:53:44Speaker 35: It's the Julian Needelman Show, and he was talking about
- 1:53:48Speaker 35: how many plays they had for the Seattle Super Bowl,
- 1:53:51Speaker 35: and I think they had over one hundred one sixty.
- 1:53:54Speaker 35: I think it was basically double the playbook that they
- 1:53:57Speaker 35: had so real quick. How many plays? This is my
- 1:54:00Speaker 35: be a ball nor question for Evan, but how many
- 1:54:02Speaker 35: plays do you guys think they're going to have for
- 1:54:04Speaker 35: this Super Bowl? I'll take it off the air, go Patz,
- 1:54:06Speaker 35: thank god?
- 1:54:06Speaker 13: Okay, well, I got no frame of reference down here.
- 1:54:09Speaker 10: I would really love to follow up with Julian Edelman
- 1:54:12Speaker 10: on that and ask him, like, does he bean like
- 1:54:16Speaker 10: one hundred and what is he say one hundred and
- 1:54:17Speaker 10: some hundred and sixty places like unique plays or does
- 1:54:20Speaker 10: he mean out of different formations at a different personnel groupings.
- 1:54:24Speaker 10: You know, once you start to kind of do the
- 1:54:26Speaker 10: permutations and it can sort of take off, because I
- 1:54:28Speaker 10: think one of the things that Josh McDaniels is really
- 1:54:31Speaker 10: known for is that they kind of run a lot
- 1:54:34Speaker 10: of the same concepts, but they dress it up differently
- 1:54:37Speaker 10: where they're in different formations or they're in different personnel groupings.
- 1:54:40Speaker 10: So at the end of the day, it ends up
- 1:54:42Speaker 10: being the same routes in the same combinations, but they're
- 1:54:45Speaker 10: getting to it in a completely different way. So maybe
- 1:54:48Speaker 10: that's more what he meant, because one hundred and sixty
- 1:54:50Speaker 10: plays of like we drew up one hundred and sixty
- 1:54:53Speaker 10: different route combinations.
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: I find very hard to believe.
- 1:54:57Speaker 10: But you know, maybe the fact that they they did
- 1:54:59Speaker 10: him in different formations and looks and stuff like that.
- 1:55:01Speaker 10: Presentations is what they like to call it nowadays, the
- 1:55:05Speaker 10: ball knowers, And maybe that's what he's talking about.
- 1:55:07Speaker 8: Yep, Chris with a T, I A N Right, Sin
- 1:55:11Speaker 8: Felger Friday Crossovers where a must listen all time great debates.
- 1:55:15Speaker 8: Felger would come in around twenty twenty five minutes before
- 1:55:18Speaker 8: his show, which was on ESPN eight ninety am. By
- 1:55:22Speaker 8: the way, exchange pleasantries and then go at it with
- 1:55:25Speaker 8: Fred Paul was rendered mute of rare feet.
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: Geese was excellent. I mean, who doesn't love Mike Reese.
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: What a week? Thanks for the work, What a week.
- 1:55:34Speaker 12: And I'm realizing, guys, I mean I'm not big one
- 1:55:37Speaker 12: for like, thank you all for following us this year.
- 1:55:40Speaker 12: But this is our last Patriots Unfiltered of the regular season.
- 1:55:43Speaker 8: Here.
- 1:55:44Speaker 12: Yeah, the next show, we'll be back in our studiosday
- 1:55:47Speaker 12: and we'll beginning of the off season.
- 1:55:48Speaker 10: Yeah, we're gonna go to Tuesday Thursday, no matter what.
- 1:55:51Speaker 10: Hopefully it'll be a post game show.
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: Hopefully we'll be a top of duck boat. Oh maybeah yeah,
- 1:55:56Speaker 2: absolutely Yeah. I'm Matt in Rochester, New York.
- 1:56:02Speaker 8: I had given up on the May MVP when the
- 1:56:04Speaker 8: all pro teams came out a few weeks ago. Didn't
- 1:56:07Speaker 8: think i'd get upset about it. Seeing that he lost
- 1:56:09Speaker 8: by one vote really made me upset.
- 1:56:11Speaker 2: Though.
- 1:56:12Speaker 8: When people like dan Orlowski are allowed to vote despite
- 1:56:15Speaker 8: being a friend and former teammate of Stafford, it really
- 1:56:18Speaker 8: calls into question the legitimacy of the vote. Plus Albert
- 1:56:21Speaker 8: Breer getting bribes with Stafford sending him a signed jersey
- 1:56:25Speaker 8: to gift his son for Christmas, the bias among voters
- 1:56:28Speaker 8: is outrageous. Alan Herbert getting first place votes without even
- 1:56:32Speaker 8: winning their divisions is ridiculous.
- 1:56:35Speaker 2: All caps Well, Stafford didn't win his division.
- 1:56:37Speaker 8: May is the only one with first place votes to
- 1:56:40Speaker 8: win his division.
- 1:56:41Speaker 2: Whatever, rant over just need to complain. Well, just to
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: be clear, Hey, he didn't lose by one vote because
- 1:56:49Speaker 2: he lost by five points, which means that a couple
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: of votes could have made the difference. Yeah, but he didn't.
- 1:56:56Speaker 10: It wasn't like I know that Stafford got twenty four
- 1:56:59Speaker 10: first place votes and got twenty three, but a first
- 1:57:01Speaker 10: place vote is only worth three points, so the way
- 1:57:05Speaker 10: that somebody else ordered.
- 1:57:06Speaker 12: Them right, So you know LASKI had voted May and Stafford,
- 1:57:09Speaker 12: Stafford still would have won. Yeah, that one vote split,
- 1:57:12Speaker 12: so you know, and then you got to take the
- 1:57:13Speaker 12: PFF guy who was enamored with Justin Herbert, and then
- 1:57:16Speaker 12: then you're probably gonna get this sent It was PFF guy.
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: It was close.
- 1:57:19Speaker 9: It was a toss up. It could have gone either way.
- 1:57:21Speaker 9: Like I, I picked May. If I had a vote,
- 1:57:24Speaker 9: my vote would have gone to May. Some other people
- 1:57:27Speaker 9: thought the same. Other people didn't. But it was really close.
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:57:30Speaker 10: I think what we are seeing though at the voters
- 1:57:31Speaker 10: because this kind of happened last year too with Allen
- 1:57:34Speaker 10: and Lamar Jackson. My my stats, my my nerd stats
- 1:57:38Speaker 10: are really starting to have a huge impact on the
- 1:57:41Speaker 10: voting because you know, if you just were voting base
- 1:57:44Speaker 10: off of you know, passing yards, passing touchdowns, td I
- 1:57:48Speaker 10: and t ratio like Stafford had all those things, and
- 1:57:51Speaker 10: the voting I think was so close because of EPA
- 1:57:54Speaker 10: per drop back, because of QBR, because of all of
- 1:57:56Speaker 10: these kind of advanced metrics we have now.
- 1:57:58Speaker 9: Yeah, and IKU all the awards just like they already
- 1:58:01Speaker 9: did in base ruining cy young.
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: Making people smarter is what you mean. That's a great answer,
- 1:58:08Speaker 2: Kyle from Maine.
- 1:58:09Speaker 8: I placed a twenty five dollars bet on October sixth,
- 1:58:11Speaker 8: the day after the Patriots beat Buffalo.
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: I just had that feeling.
- 1:58:15Speaker 8: The betting odds were fifty five plus fifty five hundred,
- 1:58:18Speaker 8: which will turn my bet into a fourteen hundred dollars win.
- 1:58:21Speaker 8: Betting odds explain is that all bets are based off
- 1:58:24Speaker 8: one hundred dollars bet or unit. Uh, so I had
- 1:58:28Speaker 8: my bet been one hundred bucks, then my win would
- 1:58:31Speaker 8: have been fifty five.
- 1:58:32Speaker 2: Hundred dollars ps.
- 1:58:33Speaker 8: I also placed that Milton Williams MVP bet right after
- 1:58:37Speaker 8: you said something, So my ten dollars might win me
- 1:58:41Speaker 8: two thousand dollars. So it was plus twenty thousand that
- 1:58:44Speaker 8: he got odds on. Wow, So they've probably gone down
- 1:58:48Speaker 8: now since I said that. Yeah, I think I moved
- 1:58:50Speaker 8: the needle. Are you a sharp?
- 1:58:52Speaker 9: He's a sharp once the sharp start, you know, weighing
- 1:58:55Speaker 9: in that that affects.
- 1:58:57Speaker 2: I am eleven and one in the in the playoffs.
- 1:58:59Speaker 2: You are phenomenal.
- 1:59:01Speaker 8: Yeah, So yeah, the houses are calling. They're actually asking
- 1:59:06Speaker 8: me not to give out influence fus.
- 1:59:09Speaker 2: Yeah, your platform is I did bring the sheep by
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: the way for the last hour. I love it. Okay,
- 1:59:16Speaker 2: we don't have to do that.
- 1:59:17Speaker 10: Alex is walking around, so we'll have to We'll get
- 1:59:20Speaker 10: her in for her pick.
- 1:59:23Speaker 8: Austin Wright sims he's an Illinois Thanks for the Friday show.
- 1:59:27Speaker 8: Going to be really tough, only having two shows next week.
- 1:59:30Speaker 8: Every time our punt unit comes onto the field on
- 1:59:33Speaker 8: fourth down, I have to hold my breath. Barringer is
- 1:59:35Speaker 8: really struggling. What is your level of confidence in him?
- 1:59:39Speaker 8: I'm worried he may cost us a Super Bowl.
- 1:59:41Speaker 12: I don't I wouldn't say struggling. I just think he's
- 1:59:43Speaker 12: so inconsistent. He's up and down. Sometimes he'll have a
- 1:59:45Speaker 12: great one and then other times they'll have a terrible one.
- 1:59:47Speaker 12: And that's kind of been consistent for his career.
- 1:59:50Speaker 2: I would say, yeah.
- 1:59:51Speaker 10: I mean, I never I would never look for Bryce,
- 1:59:54Speaker 10: but I'm I'm defending good.
- 1:59:56Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 1:59:56Speaker 9: I just would never look at a game and say,
- 1:59:58Speaker 9: I'm worried our punter's gonna call the game. If you
- 2:00:00Speaker 9: I hope it up punting too many times? You know,
- 2:00:04Speaker 9: in you know, I guess you could get it blocked.
- 2:00:06Speaker 9: He could cost you a game. Well, Rashichia heats, you know,
- 2:00:09Speaker 9: but like I'm not going to necessarily put that on
- 2:00:11Speaker 9: the punter.
- 2:00:12Speaker 2: Yeah, if he takes one another.
- 2:00:15Speaker 13: Ryan Allen was was praise, wasn't he for his punting.
- 2:00:18Speaker 9: Ryan Allen had a tremendous Super Bowl, super Bowl fifty three,
- 2:00:21Speaker 9: fifty three.
- 2:00:22Speaker 10: He I legitimately mean this. He had a case for
- 2:00:24Speaker 10: Super Bowl MVP and Super Bowl fifty three. He was
- 2:00:27Speaker 10: legitimately that good.
- 2:00:28Speaker 2: Thirteen to three.
- 2:00:28Speaker 9: Yeah, there was a playoff game the Chargers beat the
- 2:00:32Speaker 9: Colts one year. It was sort of the latter years
- 2:00:35Speaker 9: of Manning in Indy, and the punter basically won the game.
- 2:00:39Speaker 9: He must have pinned the Colts inside their five like
- 2:00:42Speaker 9: four times. Yeah, you know, it's just one of those games.
- 2:00:44Speaker 9: You know, it happens once in a while. I would
- 2:00:46Speaker 9: never go into a game though, saying, you know, Barner
- 2:00:50Speaker 9: has been inconsistent.
- 2:00:50Speaker 2: I'm really worried he's gonna cost us the game.
- 2:00:52Speaker 10: So I just my little defense and Bryce Bearinger because
- 2:00:55Speaker 10: I know he did not have the best AFC Championship game.
- 2:00:57Speaker 2: It was very inconsistent.
- 2:00:59Speaker 10: But I say the two things about it that stood
- 2:01:01Speaker 10: out to me were number one, the weather conditions that
- 2:01:05Speaker 10: he was kicking into in the fourth quarter, in particular,
- 2:01:07Speaker 10: where he had a couple punts that he was kicking
- 2:01:10Speaker 10: right into the mess, you know, the wind in the blizzard.
- 2:01:14Speaker 10: The second thing is is that it was pretty obvious
- 2:01:17Speaker 10: that they were trying to keep the ball away from
- 2:01:18Speaker 10: Marvin Mims because the Broncos offense was doing nothing. They
- 2:01:23Speaker 10: were not worried at all about the Broncos offense driving
- 2:01:25Speaker 10: the field and scoring. But Marvin Mins could have changed
- 2:01:28Speaker 10: that game on a dime. You know, if he returns
- 2:01:30Speaker 10: one to the house, that game completely changes. You know,
- 2:01:33Speaker 10: he's one of the best punt returners in football. So
- 2:01:35Speaker 10: I think the combination of dealing with the elements and
- 2:01:38Speaker 10: trying to directionally kick the ball into a certain place
- 2:01:41Speaker 10: to keep it away from Mims contributed to some of
- 2:01:44Speaker 10: the short punts that we saw in the AFC Championship
- 2:01:46Speaker 10: game where it was just kind of a perfect storm
- 2:01:48Speaker 10: of we're trying to angle it to the sideline and
- 2:01:51Speaker 10: we're trying to drive it through a snowstorm.
- 2:01:54Speaker 2: Here. It was a little bit difficult. There was one
- 2:01:56Speaker 2: kick was a tough game to judge anything. Yeah, you know.
- 2:01:59Speaker 10: Yeah, So I think that that was a big part
- 2:02:01Speaker 10: of it, because I kept on saying in the press box,
- 2:02:03Speaker 10: I was sitting next to no socks. I kept saying,
- 2:02:06Speaker 10: they cannot let Marvin Mims touch this ball, like you
- 2:02:09Speaker 10: just can't. Like their offense can't score, they can't move
- 2:02:12Speaker 10: the ball. But he is there, Marcus Jones, he's there.
- 2:02:15Speaker 11: Rashichi.
- 2:02:16Speaker 10: He he's that good as a punter returner that he
- 2:02:18Speaker 10: could have won the game. He could have won the
- 2:02:20Speaker 10: game for them.
- 2:02:21Speaker 8: Philin Vermont says, I've got a quick, cool story, handsled moment.
- 2:02:25Speaker 2: I hadn't opened the DraftKings app in months. I usually
- 2:02:29Speaker 2: use fan Duel.
- 2:02:30Speaker 8: Well, you should use Draft Kicks with the upcoming weekend.
- 2:02:35Speaker 8: I fired it up yesterday to check out the different
- 2:02:37Speaker 8: props and lines. When I opened the app, I noticed
- 2:02:40Speaker 8: my balance was higher than I remembered it. It should
- 2:02:43Speaker 8: have been zero, but it wasn't. After first thought, I
- 2:02:45Speaker 8: was like, huh, a glitch. Then I checked my bed history.
- 2:02:49Speaker 8: Turns out I completely forgot. I put a future's bet
- 2:02:52Speaker 8: on the Patriots to win the division and the conference
- 2:02:55Speaker 8: back on September fifth.
- 2:02:57Speaker 2: I had totally spaced on it.
- 2:02:59Speaker 8: So for it was two weeks, I unknowingly had seven
- 2:03:02Speaker 8: hundred and eighty five dollars sitting in my account off.
- 2:03:05Speaker 2: A thirty dollar bet. What a pleasant surprise. Aw that's awesome.
- 2:03:09Speaker 13: You gotta like parlay that found money into yeah, something bigger.
- 2:03:13Speaker 2: Put it all on Milton Williams MVP.
- 2:03:15Speaker 10: This is when I get disappointed that we can't bet,
- 2:03:18Speaker 10: because it would probably be kind I feel like.
- 2:03:21Speaker 12: I'd be a whole different person if that was available
- 2:03:23Speaker 12: to me, and I'm kind of glad that I just
- 2:03:26Speaker 12: can't even think about it.
- 2:03:27Speaker 10: This is probably why we're not allowed to bet, is
- 2:03:29Speaker 10: because we would be probably pretty good.
- 2:03:30Speaker 2: At it it at least, but I don't know I would.
- 2:03:34Speaker 8: I think the moment I actually did it for real,
- 2:03:36Speaker 8: i'd lose everything.
- 2:03:37Speaker 2: Yeah, because if I was any good at it, i'd
- 2:03:39Speaker 2: roll the dice. Yeah, I'm not good at it. I
- 2:03:42Speaker 2: don't even know if I would bet on football, per se.
- 2:03:44Speaker 12: I got too much going on for football, but for
- 2:03:46Speaker 12: like hockey games to make it a little interesting, a
- 2:03:48Speaker 12: little little juice.
- 2:03:49Speaker 2: I mean, the action is the juice, right, The action
- 2:03:50Speaker 2: is the juice. Hockey is all the number, right, Because
- 2:03:53Speaker 2: you can't do. It's tight.
- 2:03:54Speaker 12: I don't think it's a great bet. You can't do like,
- 2:03:56Speaker 12: oh parlay like goals and goals, dual player goals.
- 2:04:01Speaker 2: Yeah, but the lines of what like I mean if
- 2:04:03Speaker 2: it gets.
- 2:04:03Speaker 13: More than two, I mean that you're talking crazy.
- 2:04:08Speaker 10: There's a lot of like parlays where they you can
- 2:04:12Speaker 10: like say, like I think this guy is gonna score
- 2:04:16Speaker 10: a goal, and then then you know that guy's going
- 2:04:17Speaker 10: to get an assistant kind of like package it together
- 2:04:20Speaker 10: into like a group of like.
- 2:04:22Speaker 2: Bets with hockey. But it's not the same as as football.
- 2:04:27Speaker 8: Let's see Cameron in Dallas. Just like the Hall of Fame,
- 2:04:31Speaker 8: the NFL doesn't know what the criteria for an MVP is.
- 2:04:34Speaker 8: It's just whatever they feel like it is last week
- 2:04:38Speaker 8: or last year. It was Allen for doing more with less.
- 2:04:41Speaker 8: This is this year. It's a lifetime Achievement award. It's
- 2:04:44Speaker 8: a disgrace. Also, whoever voted for Herbert should be stripped
- 2:04:48Speaker 8: of their vote fired into that.
- 2:04:49Speaker 2: I agree with first place. First place.
- 2:04:52Speaker 12: Guess what he was on Petelenzel this morning. That's I
- 2:04:54Speaker 12: guess he's making the rounds. At least Drake May is
- 2:04:56Speaker 12: still up for one more MVP Award on Sunday. You
- 2:04:59Speaker 12: got that right, That's right, that's.
- 2:05:01Speaker 13: The one we like.
- 2:05:02Speaker 2: I can't.
- 2:05:04Speaker 10: I can't really fake outrage about this one because obviously
- 2:05:07Speaker 10: the focus for Drake may and the Patriots right now
- 2:05:09Speaker 10: is on winning the Super Bowl, which is a much
- 2:05:12Speaker 10: bigger trophy than MVP.
- 2:05:14Speaker 2: But it isn't. I hear what he's saying a.
- 2:05:16Speaker 10: Little bit about the inconsistencies, Like, sure, you know last year,
- 2:05:20Speaker 10: Josh Allen won it because the voters said it they
- 2:05:23Speaker 10: were pretty even. But Josh Allen had less around him
- 2:05:26Speaker 10: than Lamar Jackson did. And if we sit here and say,
- 2:05:29Speaker 10: as a vote that was three sixty six to three
- 2:05:32Speaker 10: sixty one in the points system, it was pretty even.
- 2:05:35Speaker 10: But who had the better supporting cast, Drake Mayor or
- 2:05:38Speaker 10: Matthew Stafford, And we all felt like it was Matthew Stafford.
- 2:05:42Speaker 10: So if you're going to be sort of consistent about
- 2:05:44Speaker 10: how you voted last year.
- 2:05:45Speaker 2: Absolutely vote that's fair.
- 2:05:47Speaker 9: I just the only part of this again, I'll reiterate
- 2:05:52Speaker 9: my choice would have been made for exactly the reason
- 2:05:53Speaker 9: of it just said.
- 2:05:54Speaker 10: But oh yeah, oh wow, oh man, my god, I
- 2:05:59Speaker 10: need to get professor. I don't have my questions I
- 2:06:02Speaker 10: actually have I actually have a question for her that
- 2:06:05Speaker 10: I really want to Governor. Hi, Fred Kersch, Paul Parilla, Wow,
- 2:06:11Speaker 10: Evin La. This is really cool and nice to meet you, Mike.
- 2:06:13Speaker 10: Do so pleasure great. If you can't have a scene,
- 2:06:16Speaker 10: that'd be great.
- 2:06:17Speaker 2: Wow. Yeah, Holy mackerel.
- 2:06:21Speaker 9: Are the Patriots playing in a superw Yeah, which is
- 2:06:24Speaker 9: pretty cool.
- 2:06:24Speaker 2: Wow. So I've never talked to him.
- 2:06:26Speaker 8: Honored to be joined by the Governor of Massachusetts more heally, I'm.
- 2:06:30Speaker 36: Honored to be here. This is this is great.
- 2:06:33Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, So you just decided to go to
- 2:06:36Speaker 2: a radio row.
- 2:06:37Speaker 36: Well, you know, I was out here recruiting some companies, right,
- 2:06:39Speaker 36: we want to bring him business to Massachusetts, and just
- 2:06:43Speaker 36: so happened to be a game I.
- 2:06:44Speaker 2: Heard, yeah come back.
- 2:06:46Speaker 8: Well I know you're a Patriots fan because I've seen
- 2:06:48Speaker 8: you at the games.
- 2:06:49Speaker 2: Yeah, So, like, what do you think about this season?
- 2:06:52Speaker 8: Because we've I've been working for the Patriots for over
- 2:06:54Speaker 8: thirty one years.
- 2:06:55Speaker 2: I didn't see this coming, Like, so what do you think?
- 2:06:59Speaker 36: I mean, Yeah, it's just awesome. You know, it's awesome,
- 2:07:04Speaker 36: the team, what they represent, you know, resilience, the comeback.
- 2:07:09Speaker 36: I don't know, I mean, I'd like to know who saw,
- 2:07:11Speaker 36: you know, four and thirteen to fourteen pst Wins Day.
- 2:07:14Speaker 36: But if they lying, and so it's it's a great
- 2:07:18Speaker 36: story just in that way because of what they've overcome.
- 2:07:21Speaker 36: I also, I mean, who doesn't love Mike Greebel. We
- 2:07:23Speaker 36: loved him as a player, We wanted him back, you know,
- 2:07:26Speaker 36: at least I did as a coach, and oh my god, right,
- 2:07:30Speaker 36: and it's just awesome his passion, his intensity and the
- 2:07:34Speaker 36: thing that I like and to me, what makes him
- 2:07:36Speaker 36: just such an incredible leader is that he's got a
- 2:07:39Speaker 36: group of guys playing at the top of their game.
- 2:07:42Speaker 36: And there are superstars, right, I mean, people emerged, but
- 2:07:47Speaker 36: you know, it's mostly a group of guys that just
- 2:07:50Speaker 36: know super superstars, right, who've found a way to just
- 2:07:55Speaker 36: play together in gel And I just think that's an
- 2:07:58Speaker 36: incredible testament to his leadership and to the quality of
- 2:08:01Speaker 36: men on this team and this organization for putting this
- 2:08:05Speaker 36: all together.
- 2:08:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean something like this.
- 2:08:07Speaker 8: I mean, it's always great for the region in Massachusetts
- 2:08:10Speaker 8: when our sports teams are doing well, right.
- 2:08:13Speaker 36: It's awesome. Look, it's great for the vibe.
- 2:08:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:08:16Speaker 36: Who doesn't love that? I think you know, we've all
- 2:08:19Speaker 36: been feeling it. People are like, this is also the coldest,
- 2:08:22Speaker 36: worst time.
- 2:08:23Speaker 1: Of the year in Massachusetts.
- 2:08:26Speaker 36: Be careful this weekend, folks, because it is going to
- 2:08:28Speaker 36: be cold again. But you know, people's spirits it's amazing.
- 2:08:32Speaker 36: You know, businesses, employees having their own parties, different ways
- 2:08:35Speaker 36: to celebrate. I know that will happen over the weekend.
- 2:08:39Speaker 36: It's also good for the economy, you know, for restaurants
- 2:08:42Speaker 36: and bars who've struggled to over the last year. You know,
- 2:08:46Speaker 36: it's it's so important that they're getting several extra weeks
- 2:08:49Speaker 36: of business. So I love that. But you know, people,
- 2:08:53Speaker 36: I think, given the times that we're in and you know,
- 2:08:56Speaker 36: people being fearful on certain or anxious or whatever inflation,
- 2:09:00Speaker 36: it's just a this is a great thing for everybody.
- 2:09:03Speaker 36: So I'm thrilled. What a gift they've given us. That's
- 2:09:06Speaker 36: how I look at it, right as governor, what a gift.
- 2:09:08Speaker 9: Absolutely, you know, speaking of gifts, what are we going
- 2:09:12Speaker 9: to win from californ.
- 2:09:16Speaker 36: Well, the bet is everybody in the state of Washington
- 2:09:19Speaker 36: is going to have to drink dunkin donuts and trust that. Yeah,
- 2:09:29Speaker 36: we made some bets, you know, I made some bets
- 2:09:31Speaker 36: with with the governor there obviously coffee. I'll send them
- 2:09:37Speaker 36: a bunch of dunks. You know, we've got legal seafood, right,
- 2:09:39Speaker 36: they have some chowder. I guess I don't. I don't really.
- 2:09:42Speaker 2: I heard we all have, Yeah, I heard. I heard
- 2:09:46Speaker 2: the seahawks when we all have to wear flannels?
- 2:09:49Speaker 1: Is that right?
- 2:09:51Speaker 9: Well, and don't carry umbrellas when it rains. They look
- 2:09:54Speaker 9: down on that seattle.
- 2:09:56Speaker 36: No, it's it's it's east coast, west coast. It's a
- 2:09:59Speaker 36: great ivorry. And but I like I like our New
- 2:10:02Speaker 36: England grittiness.
- 2:10:03Speaker 13: You know.
- 2:10:05Speaker 36: I like being an underdog too. I don't know if
- 2:10:06Speaker 36: you guys talked about that. We're all over that's a
- 2:10:10Speaker 36: that's a good place to be.
- 2:10:11Speaker 2: Well, these guys have been to so many Super Bowls.
- 2:10:13Speaker 2: This is my first, your first as well. Totally feels
- 2:10:16Speaker 2: good we got here.
- 2:10:17Speaker 12: Our predecessors have all gone to so many and now
- 2:10:19Speaker 12: we finally get here.
- 2:10:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:10:21Speaker 36: And uh, you know, I flew out last night on
- 2:10:23Speaker 36: the plane and just just a plane full of New
- 2:10:27Speaker 36: England fans, everybody in their Patriots gear and just the
- 2:10:32Speaker 36: joy and energy. It's awesome and it's great to take
- 2:10:36Speaker 36: in the energy. You know here, I am going to
- 2:10:39Speaker 36: game okay, cool, Yeah, you know, I'm going as a
- 2:10:42Speaker 36: fan and I'm going, you know, as governor too. I mean,
- 2:10:45Speaker 36: this is a big deal for a state, big deal
- 2:10:47Speaker 36: for the region, and as I say, this team represents
- 2:10:50Speaker 36: I think a lot of really positive things. So really
- 2:10:53Speaker 36: psyched to be here. It is my first Super Bowl,
- 2:10:57Speaker 36: you know, I used to watch it at home on
- 2:10:59Speaker 36: the couch with folks or a party, so it'll be
- 2:11:01Speaker 36: a little different experience. But I'm just really happy to celebrate.
- 2:11:04Speaker 36: And really I'm glad everybody's had a couple of weeks
- 2:11:07Speaker 36: off too.
- 2:11:08Speaker 8: Yeah you know, well we haven't, but you know, friends
- 2:11:12Speaker 8: eleven super Bowl?
- 2:11:12Speaker 36: Yeah, is that right?
- 2:11:14Speaker 2: My friends eleven?
- 2:11:15Speaker 36: Oh my god?
- 2:11:16Speaker 2: All right?
- 2:11:16Speaker 36: Besides this, what was the most memorable?
- 2:11:18Speaker 8: That's the first whole one. You always remember your first one, right, Yeah? Yeah,
- 2:11:22Speaker 8: two thousand and one.
- 2:11:23Speaker 2: Again, we were underdogs, fourteen point underdogs to the greatest
- 2:11:27Speaker 2: show on turf.
- 2:11:28Speaker 8: No one saw it coming. We had a new head coach,
- 2:11:31Speaker 8: we had a second year quarterback. Sound familiar, yep, and
- 2:11:35Speaker 8: uh and they did it.
- 2:11:37Speaker 2: So who knows?
- 2:11:38Speaker 36: Yeah, yeah, I remember that. I remember I was actually dead.
- 2:11:41Speaker 36: I was working at the law firm then, and I
- 2:11:43Speaker 36: was on like some assignment. They sent me as an
- 2:11:45Speaker 36: associate to look at documents or do something. So I
- 2:11:48Speaker 36: was in a hotel room in Miami, but you know,
- 2:11:52Speaker 36: just watched the whole thing. It was. That was amazing. Yeah,
- 2:11:55Speaker 36: that was amazing. That was the start of something we
- 2:11:58Speaker 36: didn't know.
- 2:11:58Speaker 8: No, no, And all these Super Bowls that the Paget's
- 2:12:02Speaker 8: been in there all seemed to be just crazy games.
- 2:12:05Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, I mean, get your heart ready. Yeah.
- 2:12:09Speaker 8: So remember you know the twenty eight three game that
- 2:12:11Speaker 8: they came back from against Atlanta. So after that game,
- 2:12:15Speaker 8: there was a T shirt that came out twenty eight three,
- 2:12:17Speaker 8: very iconic.
- 2:12:18Speaker 2: This guy is the one who created.
- 2:12:20Speaker 8: That t shit really yeah yeah, when he was living
- 2:12:25Speaker 8: just a graphic it resonated.
- 2:12:27Speaker 36: Wasn't that insane?
- 2:12:28Speaker 2: Was insane?
- 2:12:28Speaker 36: That was I don't know if I mean, I don't
- 2:12:30Speaker 36: know if you ever see anything quite like that. That
- 2:12:32Speaker 36: was insane.
- 2:12:33Speaker 12: When I saw it, I just thought, this doesn't I
- 2:12:35Speaker 12: wasn't really trying to control the Falcons, which a lot
- 2:12:38Speaker 12: of Saints fans thought I was because I sold lot.
- 2:12:39Speaker 2: But But to me, that just summed up a lot
- 2:12:41Speaker 2: of things.
- 2:12:42Speaker 12: In life where it feels like twenty to three and
- 2:12:44Speaker 12: you know how it turned out, you feel like you're down.
- 2:12:47Speaker 2: Keep fighting.
- 2:12:47Speaker 36: Yeah, yeah, I.
- 2:12:49Speaker 8: Want to make a children's book really, uh you know,
- 2:12:52Speaker 8: illustrated children's book based on that game. Yeah, you know,
- 2:12:55Speaker 8: because I think that that's the lesson that we all
- 2:12:58Speaker 8: try to teach our kids.
- 2:12:59Speaker 2: Don't give up.
- 2:13:00Speaker 8: You know, as long as you put in your you know,
- 2:13:03Speaker 8: your time, your preparation, there's always hope.
- 2:13:06Speaker 2: Yep. And uh, I think that's the lesson you learned
- 2:13:08Speaker 2: from that game.
- 2:13:09Speaker 36: And it's also you know, one of the great things
- 2:13:10Speaker 36: about football, it's it's a team game. You know, there's
- 2:13:13Speaker 36: eleven guys out here on earth. And uh, you know,
- 2:13:18Speaker 36: I'll give you that. I like my basketball too, but
- 2:13:20Speaker 36: you know that's basketball.
- 2:13:22Speaker 2: But you can have one superstar, you know that. I
- 2:13:24Speaker 2: have a basketball question.
- 2:13:26Speaker 36: That's such a good point. And the eleven, you know, it
- 2:13:28Speaker 36: takes everybody's got to do their job. Everybody has a
- 2:13:30Speaker 36: role to play, and in that game, you saw different
- 2:13:32Speaker 36: people step it up at different times. And that's also
- 2:13:34Speaker 36: a great lesson for kids about teamwork.
- 2:13:36Speaker 10: I have I have a basketball question for you actually,
- 2:13:39Speaker 10: because I'm a big basketball fan myself too, And what
- 2:13:42Speaker 10: are we going to do to get a w NBA
- 2:13:44Speaker 10: team in Massachusetts. I know you've talked about this before,
- 2:13:47Speaker 10: and I thought that maybe the Sun we're gonna come
- 2:13:50Speaker 10: to Boston.
- 2:13:50Speaker 2: But we need a w NBA team in Boston, don't we?
- 2:13:53Speaker 36: Big time? I mean, look, women's sports, it's it's on
- 2:13:56Speaker 36: the move. You see the enthusiasm you see people come
- 2:14:00Speaker 36: out to these games. I mean, I've been in games
- 2:14:02Speaker 36: in other cities. W games sell out crowds. You know,
- 2:14:06Speaker 36: the market is there, the enthusiasm is there, and I
- 2:14:09Speaker 36: think in the greatest sports town in America, which is Boston,
- 2:14:12Speaker 36: we should have a W team. So I was hoping
- 2:14:15Speaker 36: we get the Sun. Looks like, you know, the NBA
- 2:14:17Speaker 36: may have them going to Houston. But I'm not giving
- 2:14:20Speaker 36: up on it, and I'll work with anyone on it
- 2:14:22Speaker 36: because I think it. We've got professional football, hockey, the
- 2:14:28Speaker 36: Fleet's on right now, We've got soccer coming all for
- 2:14:32Speaker 36: women's sports. We should have a W team in Boston.
- 2:14:36Speaker 36: It would be it'd be great, be great, and you
- 2:14:39Speaker 36: know people would come from from all over and I
- 2:14:42Speaker 36: know that.
- 2:14:43Speaker 8: Yeah, especially you know, the college game is getting more
- 2:14:46Speaker 8: and more attractive to you know, sports fans, and I
- 2:14:49Speaker 8: think that's helping you know, the draft for the w NBA,
- 2:14:53Speaker 8: so like you know who's going where.
- 2:14:56Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 2:14:56Speaker 8: So I think it all marries together, just like college
- 2:14:59Speaker 8: football and roll football and we and.
- 2:15:01Speaker 36: We invented the game, you know both. I mean Nate
- 2:15:04Speaker 36: Smith did it, but but also the women's game was
- 2:15:06Speaker 36: invented in Massachusetts at Smith and you know, we're we're
- 2:15:10Speaker 36: I think rightful owners of this and we should be
- 2:15:13Speaker 36: having a w team and okay, you know it's a yeah, Bigger.
- 2:15:17Speaker 2: Just says it should be. Yeah, Yeah, I love it.
- 2:15:20Speaker 10: I love that that you advocate for that because you know,
- 2:15:24Speaker 10: I'm a big fan of it. And I actually went
- 2:15:26Speaker 10: to the game last year with Kaitlyn Clark when she
- 2:15:28Speaker 10: came here and played the Sun, and that place was
- 2:15:31Speaker 10: sold out, I mean absolutely sold out. Too many people
- 2:15:34Speaker 10: were rooting for Kaitlyn Clark though, because they were all
- 2:15:36Speaker 10: there to see her. And we need the Boston team
- 2:15:38Speaker 10: that we can get behind.
- 2:15:39Speaker 36: I'm with you. The other thing I think about women's
- 2:15:42Speaker 36: basketball right now is it's a game that's below the rim,
- 2:15:45Speaker 36: and I think a lot of people, especially as old
- 2:15:47Speaker 36: school Boston Celtics. You know, we go back. You know
- 2:15:50Speaker 36: that the game is played the way the men's game
- 2:15:53Speaker 36: used to be played in a lot of ways, and
- 2:15:54Speaker 36: I think that a lot of people. That appeals to
- 2:15:56Speaker 36: a lot of people too. It's it's great to watch.
- 2:15:58Speaker 2: Well, if we can get more.
- 2:16:00Speaker 8: When Clark's there, we go because no one has an
- 2:16:03Speaker 8: IQ like her on the court.
- 2:16:05Speaker 2: It's amazing. She's good. Page is good. Yeah, New England, Yeah,
- 2:16:11Speaker 2: I is there.
- 2:16:12Speaker 36: Yeah, we love our Huskies.
- 2:16:13Speaker 8: Yes, absolutely, well, listen, it's an honor again to have
- 2:16:17Speaker 8: you stop by.
- 2:16:18Speaker 2: I really appreciate that.
- 2:16:19Speaker 36: It's an honor to see you guys.
- 2:16:20Speaker 2: Think.
- 2:16:20Speaker 36: I know you guys are working your butts off to
- 2:16:23Speaker 36: put all this on. And it'll be NonStop for the
- 2:16:25Speaker 36: next seventy two hours.
- 2:16:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, and more non stop. Maybe the parade.
- 2:16:32Speaker 36: Right, Oh, don't don't say those words.
- 2:16:34Speaker 2: We can't. We can't talk about the parade those words.
- 2:16:37Speaker 36: But hey, it's great and I hope everybody out there,
- 2:16:40Speaker 36: both back home and and out here, has a lot
- 2:16:42Speaker 36: of fun. Be safe and uh and go Pats all.
- 2:16:46Speaker 8: Right or Healley, the governor of Massachusetts, thank you so
- 2:16:49Speaker 8: much for coming by.
- 2:16:50Speaker 2: Thank you guys, all right, thank you.
