- 0:05Speaker 1: So this is weird. We're sitting opposite each other.
- 0:08Speaker 2: It's a little disturbing. It's weird.
- 0:10Speaker 1: It's like we're on a date.
- 0:13Speaker 2: We'll just mention we're in a new studio.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Now, this is our new studio.
- 0:16Speaker 2: I think this is really I was actually blown away
- 0:18Speaker 2: by the effort.
- 0:18Speaker 1: You'd actually this with my bare hands.
- 0:21Speaker 3: I went to Bunnings and I got some foam and
- 0:26Speaker 3: some high performance HD cameras and I called up Scottie Cammed.
- 0:32Speaker 2: And he's knocked up the studio.
- 0:34Speaker 1: It looks knocked up the studio.
- 0:35Speaker 2: So I think that obviously this isn't a vodcast, but
- 0:39Speaker 2: maybe it can be in the future. You never know,
- 0:42Speaker 2: do you. Yeah, But head to our I guess social media,
- 0:45Speaker 2: and you'll see some clips from the studio, so you
- 0:47Speaker 2: can get a feel for what this looks like. And
- 0:50Speaker 2: I'm excited and surprised.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Head to our social media. Head to our social media.
- 0:55Speaker 3: We're on the internet, on the world Wide Web. Thank you, Paul,
- 0:59Speaker 3: Thank you for pointing that out where on the social media.
- 1:02Speaker 1: We're on Instagram, just.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Say social social just just thought out there. sALS. Hey,
- 1:08Speaker 3: one thing I wanted to talk to you about was
- 1:11Speaker 3: I'm trying to say this with a straight face. BYD Cars,
- 1:16Speaker 3: I went to the launch of the I guess it's
- 1:19Speaker 3: the brand launch.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Really yep.
- 1:20Speaker 3: And they've released or they announced and they launched the ad.
- 1:26Speaker 1: O three and.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Interesting launch. Well hold on, let's let's preface this by saying,
- 1:33Speaker 2: BYD is I think one of the biggest Chinese car manufacturers.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I believe it's the second highest selling car brand in China.
- 1:43Speaker 3: I was only the Impression Hovel's number one, BYD number
- 1:46Speaker 3: two and over there.
- 1:47Speaker 1: This is interesting in terms of electric cars.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Apparently your beloved Tesla is kind of it's kind of
- 1:55Speaker 3: cast aside. It's the Chinese car of China, do you
- 1:59Speaker 3: know what I mean?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah, And the company is actually backed by or in
- 2:03Speaker 2: part by Warren Buffett, so they're known for their battery technology.
- 2:06Speaker 2: They actually sell batteries to Tesla and also for electric
- 2:10Speaker 2: buses and a number of other things. And they've said
- 2:12Speaker 2: they're coming to Australia to launch an suv which is
- 2:15Speaker 2: forty five grand. You went to the launch and got
- 2:18Speaker 2: to see it launch. About how you were dressed for
- 2:20Speaker 2: the launch?
- 2:21Speaker 3: I was, I was, if look, if there's anything I've
- 2:25Speaker 3: learned from you it's not about cars, it's just how
- 2:29Speaker 3: to dress like a hobo from an ice cream soup kitchen.
- 2:35Speaker 2: So you went to the launch dressed like me?
- 2:37Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 2:37Speaker 2: And what happened?
- 2:38Speaker 3: And there was the first There was a red carpet there.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Have you ever been to a red carpet car launch?
- 2:45Speaker 2: Not for a Chinese electric car?
- 2:47Speaker 1: No Ah. There was a woman, a well to do woman,
- 2:52Speaker 1: I kid you not. She was wearing fur and carrying
- 2:55Speaker 1: a small dog. She was I was like, where am I?
- 3:00Speaker 1: I feel like I'm in Aaron's London? What am I
- 3:02Speaker 1: doing here?
- 3:03Speaker 3: It was the strangest thing, and no one was really
- 3:07Speaker 3: kind of when they released the car and everyone was
- 3:10Speaker 3: kind of oh. The best bit was when they were
- 3:12Speaker 3: announcing the price. I guess the SEO of the Australian
- 3:16Speaker 3: branch of the company was like, and we can announce
- 3:19Speaker 3: that we are going to be selling this car at
- 3:22Speaker 3: forty five thousand dollars drive away and everyone went, oh,
- 3:25Speaker 3: oh oh, he saved the economy.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Oh did you hear.
- 3:31Speaker 3: That Luco divide? Which was what, like, if these are
- 3:36Speaker 3: well to do people and what are they clapping for
- 3:39Speaker 3: forty five? It was just odd and I took a
- 3:43Speaker 3: big burly Greek friend of mine who looks like he's
- 3:46Speaker 3: a criminal, and he probably is.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Everyone was kind of hovering over the car. I was
- 3:51Speaker 1: the only one who sort of wed in.
- 3:52Speaker 3: I wanted to have a look, and I opened the
- 3:54Speaker 3: boot and the woman with the small dog comes up
- 3:58Speaker 3: next to me and looks in and just goes, oh,
- 4:00Speaker 3: divine what And my mate, the big burly Greek criminal
- 4:08Speaker 3: has just gone lovely as them.
- 4:10Speaker 1: And then I started going, oh, this is fabulous.
- 4:15Speaker 3: And we both just were going on this rand, and she, oh,
- 4:18Speaker 3: my god, do you reckon some of the people anyway?
- 4:20Speaker 2: After?
- 4:20Speaker 1: I sorry?
- 4:25Speaker 2: Do you think that some of the people were perhaps
- 4:28Speaker 2: paid to be there, you know, like a rental crowd?
- 4:31Speaker 3: Ah, there was definitely your married at first sight contestants there,
- 4:35Speaker 3: And I'll go to the opening of an envelope.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing I find really strange. The selection
- 4:39Speaker 2: of people they had there you included, was just a
- 4:43Speaker 2: very very odd mix. And to me, it just seemed
- 4:46Speaker 2: odd that they really didn't.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Were just pissed off because you didn't get an invite
- 4:50Speaker 3: that stuff, You didn't get to carry a small dog around.
- 4:52Speaker 2: That's that's very true. I would have loved to see that.
- 4:55Speaker 2: In fact, I'd love to actually just speak to anyone there.
- 4:57Speaker 2: It's been literally impossible to talk to any there. No
- 5:00Speaker 2: one wants to tell anyone what's going on. Which when
- 5:03Speaker 2: they had this lavish event, I thought, well, maybe that's
- 5:05Speaker 2: going to change and they'll actually do something now. But
- 5:07Speaker 2: so what happened didn't.
- 5:09Speaker 3: You're so bitter. You're so bitter. Oh, no one will
- 5:11Speaker 3: even speak to me. That's because you've been blacklisted from China.
- 5:15Speaker 3: I for one would like to put it out there.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I support our new Chinese overlords. Whatever you want to do,
- 5:21Speaker 3: I'm cool with it.
- 5:22Speaker 2: So since then, we actually managed to interview the boss
- 5:26Speaker 2: of that company and I almost fell off my chair laughing,
- 5:29Speaker 2: because they claim that by twenty twenty five they will
- 5:33Speaker 2: be a top five brand in Australia and will have
- 5:36Speaker 2: launched eight new ev models. Now that is Look, this
- 5:41Speaker 2: is the thing that is highly highly ambitious, and I
- 5:44Speaker 2: don't think it'll happen. If it does excellent, Good on them.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I really sort of applaud them for that. But for
- 5:50Speaker 2: a company that's been impossible to get a hold of
- 5:52Speaker 2: so far, nothing that they've promised has actually come true
- 5:56Speaker 2: in more way, well, all of the cars they promised
- 5:58Speaker 2: that we're going to be here, aren't. We can't drive
- 6:00Speaker 2: this car. I don't know, like when when? I know
- 6:04Speaker 2: nothing of it. Up until last week they were claiming
- 6:07Speaker 2: that you would buy the car from a my Car
- 6:09Speaker 2: service center, so you'd go in to get your tire
- 6:12Speaker 2: puncture fixed and then you would pick up your new
- 6:16Speaker 2: ev BYD. And I've been to a few my Car
- 6:19Speaker 2: places and the people at work there are great, but
- 6:21Speaker 2: they're just literally mechanic workshops. I don't understand how you
- 6:25Speaker 2: will have a So now they've partnered with Eagers, which
- 6:27Speaker 2: is Australia's biggest dealer group, to help distribute some cars,
- 6:31Speaker 2: but they're still using my car in regional areas, so
- 6:35Speaker 2: if you live in like Ballarat, you have to go
- 6:39Speaker 2: bloke there with a flat tire.
- 6:41Speaker 1: And bloody electric car.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Well, so look, I hope it works for them, I
- 6:50Speaker 2: really do. But so far everything they've promised really hasn't happened.
- 6:54Speaker 2: And they think this thing will go and sail by midyears.
- 6:57Speaker 2: So I bet you, I bet you it will happen.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I hope it. Look, I hope it does.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Do you know what the weird thing I found? I
- 7:04Speaker 3: noticed about the byds. They love a badge. Oh, they
- 7:08Speaker 3: love a badge. If you look at the back of
- 7:10Speaker 3: these cars, they've got like five different, five different badges
- 7:15Speaker 3: on the back.
- 7:15Speaker 1: They look like some sort of a Scouts uniform sort
- 7:18Speaker 1: of thing.
- 7:18Speaker 2: No, but that's that's a popular thing in China often.
- 7:21Speaker 2: We had a Chinese guy that worked for us at
- 7:24Speaker 2: our previous company, and he had an Ouda six and
- 7:26Speaker 2: he put the Chinese badges on the back of it.
- 7:29Speaker 2: And the Chinese badges are there in addition to the
- 7:32Speaker 2: English writing, So the cars have all this wording on
- 7:35Speaker 2: the back that supplement to all the English stuff. So
- 7:38Speaker 2: I think it's just a Chinese market thing.
- 7:40Speaker 1: What do you think BYD stands for?
- 7:42Speaker 2: I know what it said stands for, all right.
- 7:45Speaker 3: It's weird because on the back of it says build
- 7:47Speaker 3: your Dreams. And I'm like, what a weird what a
- 7:51Speaker 3: weird statement? And it took me a long time to
- 7:53Speaker 3: work out that's what by D stands for.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Some of the car names are weird as well. They've
- 7:57Speaker 2: got the dolphin.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Oh are we talking abot cars? Are we talking about?
- 8:02Speaker 1: What's in your bottom drawer?
- 8:04Speaker 2: The Aasto three, I think is a weird one. They've
- 8:05Speaker 2: got the T three. There's just so many strange names
- 8:09Speaker 2: out there. So look, I don't want to sound cynical,
- 8:12Speaker 2: although I obviously do sound cynical, but you are. I
- 8:15Speaker 2: am all for cheap Chinese cars because it means the
- 8:18Speaker 2: rest of the manufacturers will have to respond and actually
- 8:21Speaker 2: price things logically and not outrageously like some of them
- 8:24Speaker 2: are at the moment. But I just have issues with
- 8:28Speaker 2: not how honest they're being, but just how forthcoming they
- 8:31Speaker 2: are with information.
- 8:33Speaker 3: By D interesting one to watch. Another one that you
- 8:36Speaker 3: brought up as we were coming in here is Porsche
- 8:38Speaker 3: and making their own synthetic fuel.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Is that right?
- 8:41Speaker 2: Yeah, So it's really fascinating because Porsche doesn't want to
- 8:44Speaker 2: kill the electric car. They're building electric stuff. We know
- 8:47Speaker 2: that their future cars will be electric in part or
- 8:49Speaker 2: fully electric. But what they've done is they've invested heavily
- 8:53Speaker 2: in synthetic fuels and they have a plant in chilean
- 8:56Speaker 2: partnership with Siemens and a number of other sort of
- 8:59Speaker 2: petrochemical companies. But they want to create up to five
- 9:02Speaker 2: hundred and fifty million liters by twenty twenty six. And
- 9:05Speaker 2: the concept is that they want you to still be
- 9:08Speaker 2: able to own your older Porsche and know that you
- 9:12Speaker 2: can still fill it with fuel. Yeah, And they want
- 9:14Speaker 2: to be able to produce this even if oil dries up.
- 9:17Speaker 2: So they want to have these fuels that will that
- 9:19Speaker 2: will work for these cars. They reckon it reduces emissions
- 9:23Speaker 2: by around eighty five percent compared today's unleaded fuels. But
- 9:27Speaker 2: I don't know. It just seems odd to me because
- 9:29Speaker 2: if you can do that, why have people done that?
- 9:33Speaker 1: Right?
- 9:34Speaker 2: So it seems to me that perhaps it'll be really
- 9:36Speaker 2: expensive to produce. And if that's the case, you can
- 9:38Speaker 2: still own your old Porsche, but it might be ten
- 9:40Speaker 2: dollars a liter for the fuel. Yeah, which I think
- 9:42Speaker 2: people would be happy with. If the future is electric
- 9:45Speaker 2: and your primary car is going to be electric, perhaps
- 9:47Speaker 2: your Porsche is powered by that ten dollars aleter fuel
- 9:50Speaker 2: that you drive occasionally.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Sorry, I had a few drinks last night. I'm very
- 9:54Speaker 3: happy you can sponsor.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I'm trying.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm trying so hard to to keep it together,
- 10:01Speaker 3: but I just want to vomit under the desk. It's
- 10:05Speaker 3: a really smart move to make your own synthetic fuels.
- 10:07Speaker 3: I mean, you're not relying on any like any other
- 10:09Speaker 3: country sort of thing, not relying on Russia.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's a fantastic idea because it really
- 10:15Speaker 2: just does mean that you have a solid supply in
- 10:17Speaker 2: the future, you can continue servicing your customers cars. They'll
- 10:21Speaker 2: probably say that if you fuel your car with our
- 10:23Speaker 2: synthetic fuel, will guarantee the engine because it's compatible with
- 10:27Speaker 2: their current cars. So I love that they're doing this.
- 10:30Speaker 2: They're obviously fully into developing their next lot of evs
- 10:33Speaker 2: as well, so they are pushing forward with all that stuff,
- 10:35Speaker 2: but they are still keeping an eye on this, and
- 10:38Speaker 2: I think for the purest out there who still wants
- 10:40Speaker 2: to own an internal combustion car in the future, there
- 10:43Speaker 2: is still a future you will still be able to
- 10:45Speaker 2: buy this if Porscha has its way.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Hey, speaking of lush car launchers, well I went to
- 10:52Speaker 3: a lush one and you went to the Ford Everest.
- 10:56Speaker 2: I'm gonna say the Ford people treated me very nicely,
- 10:59Speaker 2: but yes, we were the car that I drive down
- 11:02Speaker 2: or I had a key EV six. We drive to
- 11:05Speaker 2: the Ford proven ground to have a look at this
- 11:06Speaker 2: car and drive it around and all that sort of stuff,
- 11:09Speaker 2: and it's ages away, so it's in like regional Victoria,
- 11:13Speaker 2: but also down like this rutted corrugated gravel road. So
- 11:18Speaker 2: by the time I got back to my car after
- 11:19Speaker 2: the thing, it looked like I'd been to the Denny
- 11:22Speaker 2: Yute muster and back. The thing was covered in dust
- 11:25Speaker 2: and I thought, Jess, I'm gonna have to wash.
- 11:26Speaker 3: That slab of bunderbird rub in the back, and some
- 11:31Speaker 3: woman called chas Hang mom.
- 11:34Speaker 2: So I went to check it out and look it
- 11:37Speaker 2: kind of building on the ranger that you went and
- 11:39Speaker 2: had to look at as well. Ford's gone to town
- 11:41Speaker 2: on this. So three and a half done brake towing
- 11:43Speaker 2: capacity available with the V six diesel. There's a new
- 11:46Speaker 2: top top grade called the Platinum that's going to come
- 11:49Speaker 2: with all of the bells and whistles. So it's like
- 11:51Speaker 2: front and rear headed seats, heated steering wheel, matrix led headlights.
- 11:55Speaker 2: They really have thrown the feature book at this, which
- 11:58Speaker 2: makes me think it's going to be expensive when it
- 12:00Speaker 2: does launch. But keep in mind, to Prato Kakada's a
- 12:02Speaker 2: ninety grand proposition, it wouldn't surprise me if this Nudge
- 12:06Speaker 2: is that ninety grand mark as well. And of course
- 12:09Speaker 2: last episode we spoke about the Raptor, which I finally
- 12:11Speaker 2: got a chance to see in person again without all
- 12:13Speaker 2: the camo.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Nice.
- 12:14Speaker 3: That thing is a beast, so nice, absolute beast and
- 12:17Speaker 3: that new Ford design language looks like it's shaped it's
- 12:21Speaker 3: specifically made almost for the Raptor, because it just looks
- 12:25Speaker 3: so bad ass.
- 12:26Speaker 1: What do you think about it? On the Everest look, it.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Depends on the spec. We had a look at a
- 12:31Speaker 2: sports Speck which was all blacked out, and that looked
- 12:33Speaker 2: really nice as well. The car that we filmed was
- 12:36Speaker 2: a Trend, which I think is like a second up
- 12:38Speaker 2: from the base model, and I thought that looked a
- 12:39Speaker 2: little basic, but the Platinum looked amazing, like they had
- 12:43Speaker 2: these open, poor wood grain inside. It actually looked like
- 12:45Speaker 2: a really premium vehicle. So I think this is going
- 12:48Speaker 2: to go crazy when they launch it and Ford. I mean,
- 12:52Speaker 2: we got senter Dealer bulletin saying that Ford is bringing
- 12:55Speaker 2: in seven thousand ranges to launch with sounds like a lot,
- 12:59Speaker 2: except that's only like a month or two months of supply.
- 13:03Speaker 2: So I have a feeling we're going to end up
- 13:05Speaker 2: in a situation again where something new and fresh launches
- 13:08Speaker 2: and you just cannot get one, there will be a
- 13:11Speaker 2: giant waiting list. So I think if you are interested
- 13:13Speaker 2: in an Everest, a Raptor or a Ranger, you need
- 13:15Speaker 2: to get on the waiting list right now and don't
- 13:18Speaker 2: leave it until the car's launched, because you will you'll
- 13:20Speaker 2: miss out.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Is this chip shortage still? I kind of was under
- 13:23Speaker 3: the impression. I thought to myself, I reckon, by July,
- 13:26Speaker 3: we'll sort of start to see, you know, everything kind
- 13:29Speaker 3: of somewhat returning back to normal shipping prices and you know,
- 13:33Speaker 3: logistic costs and all that sort of stuff kind.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Of would come back down. But I don't know, I
- 13:39Speaker 1: just feel like this is almost.
- 13:40Speaker 2: The new norm And I'm like, why, well, let me
- 13:43Speaker 2: tell you how f the situation is. We thought it'd
- 13:45Speaker 2: be the same by now, we'd be back to normality.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Bosh and Bosh. I know a lot of people think
- 13:50Speaker 2: Bosh makes washing machines and stuff, but they also make
- 13:51Speaker 2: a lot of car components and semiconductors. Bosh has gone
- 13:56Speaker 2: to town on building semi conductors, but they've now announced
- 13:59Speaker 2: that they're invested an additional four hundred million dollars into
- 14:02Speaker 2: a new plant that makes just semiconductors. They reckon they
- 14:06Speaker 2: won't have that plant ready until twenty twenty five. So
- 14:10Speaker 2: the whole world is now thinking, Okay, well the supply
- 14:12Speaker 2: of this stuff out of China isn't working. There's all
- 14:15Speaker 2: these trade issues with China. We need to sort out
- 14:18Speaker 2: our own semiconductor supply. Well, these are going to be
- 14:20Speaker 2: expensive because you've got to build the plants and pay
- 14:22Speaker 2: them back. The locations where you build these semiconductors. They
- 14:25Speaker 2: need to be white rooms, so they're basically air sealed, dustproof.
- 14:30Speaker 2: It's expensive to build this stuff, so they can't just
- 14:32Speaker 2: click their fingers and go, well, let's just buy a
- 14:34Speaker 2: machine off eBay to three D print some semiconductors. So
- 14:37Speaker 2: it does show you that if Bosh is saying they
- 14:39Speaker 2: won't have this new plant up and running until twenty
- 14:41Speaker 2: twenty five, we're likely to see this pushing on for
- 14:43Speaker 2: another six twelve, maybe even longer. Wow, crazy, isn't it?
- 14:47Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 14:48Speaker 3: I know America has in the last couple of months
- 14:50Speaker 3: has started to kind of feel the impact a lot
- 14:52Speaker 3: in their car market. I know, like a lot of
- 14:55Speaker 3: outspoken industry people over there were like, why don't we
- 14:59Speaker 3: build our own semiconductor plant?
- 15:01Speaker 2: No shit, surely.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Yeah, where were you? Where were you on that one?
- 15:05Speaker 2: But it's easy to say. But China has been doing
- 15:09Speaker 2: this for decades and they have it down pat it's
- 15:12Speaker 2: cheap to manufacture. They are the masters of this small componentry.
- 15:17Speaker 2: The world didn't realize how important that componentory was until
- 15:20Speaker 2: COVID hit in different industries started ramping up. So yes,
- 15:24Speaker 2: we're realizing that now, but we're paying the cost of
- 15:26Speaker 2: it with you know, demand for cars. People want more
- 15:30Speaker 2: cars because they're not going on holidays. They're buying these things.
- 15:32Speaker 2: They're working from home. Monitors have semiconductors. Everything seemingly has
- 15:36Speaker 2: a semiconductor. Fell off my seat when I heard Volkswagen
- 15:40Speaker 2: was having issues with toe bars because of semiconductors, and
- 15:43Speaker 2: I thought, where is the semiconductor on a tobar? But
- 15:45Speaker 2: it was in the wiring harness, so oh yeah, right.
- 15:48Speaker 2: It's just the smallest things that will make your toe
- 15:51Speaker 2: bar incomplete. It's the random little thing you didn't think of.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, should we talk a lexus? Yes, let's
- 15:58Speaker 3: do it do that?
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yes again?
- 16:00Speaker 3: Yes, you should do a radio show. You should have
- 16:03Speaker 3: like a pre I'd like to see you on Yes, yeah,
- 16:05Speaker 3: there you go. I'd like to see you on what?
- 16:07Speaker 1: What radio station? Would you be on? M I reckon
- 16:12Speaker 1: the Edge. I talk about that with me. I'd like
- 16:17Speaker 1: to see you on Smooth.
- 16:18Speaker 2: I reckon Smooth.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Yeah, give me a bit of what's up, guys.
- 16:23Speaker 3: This is Paul and I'm about to play some Belinda
- 16:27Speaker 3: Carlisle for you.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Well, I open up.
- 16:29Speaker 2: A bottle of red pe.
- 16:31Speaker 3: They always talk about red wine and chocolates on Smooth.
- 16:35Speaker 3: It's like they're reading off a Hallmark card. And as
- 16:37Speaker 3: I listen to some air supply.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Will tell me you're in the radio industry. Do they
- 16:42Speaker 2: train them to have those voices? Because I heard Simon Diaz,
- 16:47Speaker 2: who has a beautiful voice, and then Melissa Doyle or
- 16:50Speaker 2: what it used to be on Sunrise and they have
- 16:51Speaker 2: just this the tones and the the ESA's and it's.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Just I feel like that was a bit of a
- 16:57Speaker 3: rubbish on me. Actually, there radio, you're you.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Have a selected audience type.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Hot moms A. Yeah.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Do you know what Melissa Doyle doesn't do it in
- 17:10Speaker 3: a radio studio. She does it in a voice over booth. Oh,
- 17:14Speaker 3: she's literally reading. Someone will write her scripts and she
- 17:17Speaker 3: will deliver them. And one year I say this because
- 17:21Speaker 3: one year, Melissa and myself, and she's lovely. We were
- 17:25Speaker 3: up for an ACRO, which is a radio award, right
- 17:28Speaker 3: for best music Presenter.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Melissa Doyle got it.
- 17:32Speaker 2: I'm like, what, so, you're obviously not too fussed about that.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Not too fuss. I've got over it, clearly. I'm good
- 17:38Speaker 1: on her.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Well, I got to say that despite the aforementioned things.
- 17:42Speaker 2: But I like her voice and it sounds like it's
- 17:44Speaker 2: the voiceover studio that perhaps helps that.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but I think Simon Diaz does it the old
- 17:50Speaker 1: school way.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Okay, interesting, who's.
- 17:53Speaker 1: The other one, Cameron Daddo?
- 17:54Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I think there's a one of the Dado brothers,
- 17:57Speaker 3: one of the Dado's.
- 17:57Speaker 1: He does a show, Richard will Oh.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Yes, I have heard him on Smooth. I think as well.
- 18:03Speaker 2: He's got a nice voice, give me smooth.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Let's let's let's put on some sort of I'll put
- 18:08Speaker 3: on some music. Here there you go and give me
- 18:12Speaker 3: Here we go, guys, we're just gonna go over to Paul.
- 18:15Speaker 2: It's half past four and it's time for some horses.
- 18:19Speaker 2: By who is right down?
- 18:23Speaker 1: Jesus Christ, you didn't even say the call sign been fired?
- 18:27Speaker 2: By Now, let's disappointing time call?
- 18:31Speaker 1: Who needs a time call? In twenty twenty two, let's
- 18:33Speaker 1: talk like a third chime.
- 18:36Speaker 4: The twenty twenty two Lexus Inx prices start from fifty
- 18:40Speaker 4: seven thousand, five hundred dollars. The one we reviewed is
- 18:44Speaker 4: the Inix three hundred and fifty h IF Sport all
- 18:46Speaker 4: wheel drive with an enhancement package at just over seventy
- 18:50Speaker 4: eight thousand, five hundred dollars. Drive away.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Lexus NX.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Yeah, look this this really surprised me. So I Lexus NX.
- 18:58Speaker 2: The old NX was a bit of a stinker. It
- 19:01Speaker 2: was based on the old RAV four platform and it
- 19:04Speaker 2: had been out for donkeys years. It wasn't very good
- 19:07Speaker 2: by any stretch of the imagination. The new one, though,
- 19:10Speaker 2: is fresh from the ground up, still based on the
- 19:12Speaker 2: same TNGA platform that the RAV four uses. That stands
- 19:16Speaker 2: for Toyter New Global Architecture, and then they build things
- 19:19Speaker 2: off it. So under the skin it is just a
- 19:22Speaker 2: RAB four, right, But when you pull up in it
- 19:24Speaker 2: and you saw it for the first time outside today
- 19:27Speaker 2: going to it looks anything like a RAB four. If
- 19:29Speaker 2: I didn't tell you it was a RAB four, would
- 19:31Speaker 2: you have known?
- 19:31Speaker 3: No one hundred percent night. Here's the thing Lexus I
- 19:34Speaker 3: couldn't be less excited about.
- 19:38Speaker 2: That's the thing. Lexus has always been an older person brand.
- 19:42Speaker 1: To me.
- 19:43Speaker 3: I see them and I'm like, it's an old bloke
- 19:45Speaker 3: chucking his golf clubs in the back.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I think you, actually, Paul on Smooth FM, I think
- 19:49Speaker 1: you summed it.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Up perfectly when you said, when you think of Lexis,
- 19:53Speaker 2: it reminds you of Eddie maguire because that's the type
- 19:55Speaker 2: of person you expect to drive on, an older, wealthy male,
- 19:58Speaker 2: right right. They're trying to change that, and the NX
- 20:02Speaker 2: is leading that charge because they've rationalized the pricing and
- 20:06Speaker 2: they've now made it a really comprehensive range, so you
- 20:09Speaker 2: can go all the way from the entry level NX
- 20:11Speaker 2: two fifty at like sixty grand all the way up
- 20:13Speaker 2: to the plug in hybrid at ninety And the key
- 20:16Speaker 2: difference is that the plug in hybrid is available in
- 20:18Speaker 2: the rap Fall but not in Australia, so you can
- 20:20Speaker 2: effectively have a RAV four prime, which is available in
- 20:23Speaker 2: the States here under the Lexus banner. Lexis then gives
- 20:26Speaker 2: you premium service. It is literally when you go in
- 20:29Speaker 2: to get your car serviced. They will know you by name.
- 20:32Speaker 2: They will roll out the red carpet for you, just
- 20:34Speaker 2: like with the woman and the dog when you go
- 20:37Speaker 2: to your my car dealership, roll the red caver welcome Gold.
- 20:46Speaker 2: So yeah, I think they've really struck struck gold here.
- 20:50Speaker 2: So the one that I'm driving is the NX three
- 20:52Speaker 2: fifty h have listened to this name, the NX three
- 20:55Speaker 2: fifty h F sport All will drive with Enhancement Pack two. Wow,
- 21:00Speaker 2: so it's quite the name. But yeah, So this thing
- 21:03Speaker 2: is loaded with all the kid that you need. Headed
- 21:05Speaker 2: and cold seats, heated steering wheel, red leather inside. It's
- 21:09Speaker 2: got this enormous infotainment system, so fourteen inch display.
- 21:12Speaker 1: It looks fantastic.
- 21:14Speaker 2: They've just really sort of nailed it. You get an
- 21:15Speaker 2: app now as well, so you get remote connectivity with
- 21:17Speaker 2: the car. You can start it.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Keeping from your phone.
- 21:21Speaker 2: That's it.
- 21:21Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 21:22Speaker 2: And plenty of room inside. Like you sat in the back,
- 21:24Speaker 2: there was room there. And the pricing I thought was
- 21:27Speaker 2: pretty good as well. It was around that eighty thousand
- 21:28Speaker 2: dollar mark for that sort of version I was driving,
- 21:31Speaker 2: which is quite a sort of top spec.
- 21:32Speaker 3: They've really wrapped those seats in the leather, haven't they
- 21:35Speaker 3: Like everywhere?
- 21:36Speaker 1: There's leather everywhere.
- 21:39Speaker 3: I feel like several cows proudly bowed down in the
- 21:43Speaker 3: slaughterhouse to make this, to make one car.
- 21:46Speaker 2: It is As an owner of a child, would you
- 21:49Speaker 2: be concerned about having that much leather with a kid
- 21:53Speaker 2: in the car?
- 21:54Speaker 1: Yeah? No, probably not.
- 21:55Speaker 3: I just figure, honestly, once you have a kid, you
- 21:57Speaker 3: just kind of have to deal with it. Just just
- 22:00Speaker 3: know that whatever you're driving is gonna look like a
- 22:03Speaker 3: piece of shit in by day two.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Well, how do you go with your car? You've got
- 22:07Speaker 2: a stinger? Right, how do you go with having the
- 22:09Speaker 2: kid in that? And the leather?
- 22:10Speaker 1: Oh?
- 22:11Speaker 3: Horrendous because it's she throws like yogurt around the place
- 22:15Speaker 3: and all this sort of stuff and biscuits down on
- 22:18Speaker 3: the seats and just shit everywhere.
- 22:21Speaker 2: I'm actually more concerned about my wife. She is she's shaded. Well,
- 22:26Speaker 2: she's banned from having food in the car. Every car
- 22:29Speaker 2: I have she will spill something in there. So the
- 22:32Speaker 2: rule is now you're not allowed to have food in
- 22:34Speaker 2: the car. My daughter, that's fine, you can eat whatever
- 22:36Speaker 2: you want. My wife no food. Serious, She's got your
- 22:40Speaker 2: far a wonderful husband.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Yes, like if I went around to your place, it
- 22:44Speaker 3: probably sounded like the bloody you rush into Ukraine border.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Sorry anyway, moving on putin what are we talking about Lexus? Yes?
- 22:53Speaker 1: Sorry?
- 22:53Speaker 3: The problem with my car is too it's got the
- 22:55Speaker 3: perforated leather seats. Yes, so when food drives up, I
- 22:59Speaker 3: literally to get like a little pin and like pick
- 23:02Speaker 3: it all out.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:03Speaker 2: So the perforations are what concerned me about the IX
- 23:06Speaker 2: because that was perforation city on the entire thing, and
- 23:09Speaker 2: that's what worries me about. You know, nice cars and kids.
- 23:13Speaker 2: So I don't know if anyone's listening. Contact at the
- 23:15Speaker 2: drive show dot com dot are you do you have
- 23:18Speaker 2: a nice car? And if so, how do you deal
- 23:20Speaker 2: with children in your nice car? Do you have any
- 23:22Speaker 2: tips for us mere mortals and my wife?
- 23:25Speaker 1: Overall?
- 23:26Speaker 3: I'm not a I'm generally not a Lexus fan. Will
- 23:29Speaker 3: this attract a younger market? I'm not convinced, Okay, I
- 23:33Speaker 3: just think the pricing's great. I was surprised by the
- 23:35Speaker 3: price the infertainment system. That bloody screen is huge and
- 23:39Speaker 3: tidy looking and neat. It's really nice, but it's still it's.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Not a cool car.
- 23:45Speaker 3: It's not like, as you said, at the end of
- 23:47Speaker 3: the days, it's a tricked up rap.
- 23:49Speaker 2: For yeah, okay, well let's see what happens. We'll be
- 23:53Speaker 2: publishing our review on that. But by the time this
- 23:55Speaker 2: goes live. But that I've just noticed the people that
- 23:57Speaker 2: I've had contacting me asking about it, they've all been
- 24:01Speaker 2: fairly youngish, youngish family type people. So yeah, I'll be
- 24:05Speaker 2: interested to see whether is that just a case of
- 24:08Speaker 2: there's no other cars on the market and this is new,
- 24:10Speaker 2: so I'm just going to go buy it, or is
- 24:12Speaker 2: it a case of it being gentrified and you know.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Brand wise, do you still think it's like it's in
- 24:18Speaker 3: the same sort of lux league as say it's German competitors.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Look, I think that the experience is better than the competition.
- 24:28Speaker 2: So obviously I haven't owned those German cars news, so
- 24:32Speaker 2: I can't comment, but I do know that every person
- 24:34Speaker 2: I've spoken to that owns Alexis loves the experience they
- 24:37Speaker 2: are they'll deliver you cars for servicing, like they will
- 24:40Speaker 2: go out of their way to really make your experience good.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Then equally, some of the people I know with those
- 24:45Speaker 2: German cars are not treated all that great sometimes, so yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 2: I think that if it is a service thing and
- 24:52Speaker 2: perhaps you know, yeah, I don't know. Let's see. I'll
- 24:55Speaker 2: be keen for some feedback once people start getting their
- 24:57Speaker 2: cars and just seeing who's driving them as well.
- 25:00Speaker 3: I'd like to know what people think, how this compares
- 25:02Speaker 3: to its competition, like the ai Q five x three
- 25:07Speaker 3: L Yes, in the Volvo XC.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Sixty maybe yeah, look, I think it's nice. So I'll
- 25:13Speaker 2: be keen to see who buys it and whether they
- 25:15Speaker 2: enjoy driving it, and whether they're buying it for the
- 25:17Speaker 2: luxury stuff or whether they're just buying it because it
- 25:19Speaker 2: was the only thing that's available.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Now let us know on the social media if you could,
- 25:24Speaker 3: that would be darts. Hey are you buying a new car?
- 25:27Speaker 2: Yes?
- 25:28Speaker 1: What are you buying?
- 25:28Speaker 2: Well you have to wait and see why.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Because you want a big viratube video. I'll do it, guys.
- 25:34Speaker 2: I'll put some I'll get one of my commodorees out
- 25:36Speaker 2: and then I'll do like a big burnout, and then
- 25:39Speaker 2: in the burnout it will be like a smoke.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Like a gender reveal.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Do you know what The guy I work with, Kyle
- 25:46Speaker 3: Sandlans he's having a baby and for his gender reveal.
- 25:50Speaker 1: This was the absolute bets. I love this.
- 25:52Speaker 3: He took a major boat, like a big ass souper
- 25:55Speaker 3: yacht in the middle of Sydney Harbor and got two
- 25:59Speaker 3: of those red Bull trick planes crazy planes to fly
- 26:04Speaker 3: over Sydney Harbor, fly over the boat and release the
- 26:07Speaker 3: smoke of.
- 26:09Speaker 2: That is amazing. All that would probably have do my burnout.
- 26:12Speaker 2: So that's impressive. See, he's another guy that I haven't
- 26:15Speaker 2: met him, but I would think that if he was
- 26:18Speaker 2: to tragically pass away, and I don't obviously don't wish
- 26:20Speaker 2: that upon him, but I think he would be another
- 26:22Speaker 2: guy that has lived a very wholesome and full life.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Full life indeed, yeah, I don't know about wholesome, but
- 26:29Speaker 3: busy life.
- 26:30Speaker 1: He's lived a laugh man. He's a man.
- 26:32Speaker 3: He's been from homeless to really Oh yeah, it was
- 26:35Speaker 3: homeless at like sixteen. I had no idea that a
- 26:38Speaker 3: home and in forged his own sort of thing. Yes,
- 26:43Speaker 3: what are you buying?
- 26:45Speaker 2: You'll have to wait and see. So I did take
- 26:47Speaker 2: delivery of my US vehicle, so that's now at home.
- 26:51Speaker 1: That was a US vehicle.
- 26:52Speaker 2: I imported a car from the States that I I
- 26:55Speaker 2: will tell you about later.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Can I take a guess and you don't have to
- 26:59Speaker 3: reveal it. But when you give a warmer closer, yes,
- 27:01Speaker 3: go colder thing.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Is it a truck?
- 27:05Speaker 2: Yes, I know what it is. It's green.
- 27:08Speaker 1: I know what it is. Is it a GMC.
- 27:10Speaker 2: No, No, you will never guess it, and I'll reveal
- 27:15Speaker 2: it later. Truck Right now isn't the best time, and
- 27:19Speaker 2: you'll understand why when you see it.
- 27:21Speaker 3: But yeah, okay, so you're getting that car, but you've
- 27:24Speaker 3: also got another one on order?
- 27:26Speaker 2: Well, yes, I will soon.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah, right, and so is this other car?
- 27:29Speaker 2: The other car is electric?
- 27:31Speaker 1: Yes, I was going to say it's going to be electric, right?
- 27:34Speaker 1: Is it the plaid?
- 27:35Speaker 2: No?
- 27:38Speaker 1: Is it a Tesla?
- 27:38Speaker 2: Still if I tell you the brand, there's only like
- 27:42Speaker 2: one car it could possibly be, So you'll just have
- 27:45Speaker 2: to wait and see explain later.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Boring, Why are you getting another Tesla?
- 27:51Speaker 2: Anyway? So we would love, now that we're at that
- 27:56Speaker 2: part of the show, for you guys to leave us
- 27:57Speaker 2: a rating. Some people have been leaving us rating and
- 27:59Speaker 2: I've got some back during the week that we're going
- 28:01Speaker 2: to share with you.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Here we go.
- 28:03Speaker 2: This is from Daniel. Daniel said, love your podcast, but
- 28:07Speaker 2: your mate needs to tone down the jokes. That's his name, Daniel.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Hey, Daniel good SLF.
- 28:20Speaker 2: So we got an email from Cameron and Cameron said, hey, fellas,
- 28:24Speaker 2: been enjoying the new podcast over here working in Beijing.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Well maybe, Cameron, do you see byds over there? I'd
- 28:30Speaker 2: be interested to see whether they're a thing and whether
- 28:32Speaker 2: you see many around loving the banter between you and
- 28:35Speaker 2: talking about the relevant new models. So there you go.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Yeah, take that, Daniel.
- 28:39Speaker 2: They got to do some scenarios where if you had
- 28:41Speaker 2: a certain price point, what performance car would you get? Eg?
- 28:44Speaker 2: One hundred k. Enjoyed the honest, ironic five of you
- 28:47Speaker 2: can you hear thoughts about Pollstar and best sized mid
- 28:50Speaker 2: sized SUVs with poke that are still fun to drive?
- 28:53Speaker 2: So let me ask you while I look up these
- 28:55Speaker 2: other emails that we got, what would you buy for
- 28:58Speaker 2: one hundred k performance car new or fairly new? It
- 29:02Speaker 2: doesn't have to be brand new, but fairly new.
- 29:04Speaker 1: I would get for one hundred k.
- 29:07Speaker 3: I reckon I might be able to get a secondhand
- 29:10Speaker 3: Porsche Cayman.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's not a bad idea, I reckon.
- 29:14Speaker 1: I get that.
- 29:14Speaker 2: And you've got to keep in mind as well that
- 29:16Speaker 2: the Cayman is going electric. Yeah, so that probably is
- 29:19Speaker 2: actually happening, yeah eventually. Yeah, so that wouldn't be a
- 29:22Speaker 2: bad idea one hundred K for me. You know, what
- 29:25Speaker 2: I still really think is just an amazingly stupidly cool
- 29:28Speaker 2: car is the Tesla Model three Performance. Just kidding. No
- 29:35Speaker 2: BMWM two competition or the CS if you can find
- 29:39Speaker 2: one for that price. But I just I was watching
- 29:41Speaker 2: a review the other day about the new M two
- 29:43Speaker 2: forty ie and the blog owned an M two comp
- 29:45Speaker 2: and he was driving it at the same time, and
- 29:47Speaker 2: I'm like, that is still an awesome car. It is
- 29:49Speaker 2: turbo six. I think in five or ten years time
- 29:52Speaker 2: a car like that just won't exist. And I think
- 29:54Speaker 2: the fact that it did exist at one point with
- 29:57Speaker 2: like an M three engine under.
- 29:58Speaker 1: The gone such a great rev tom as well.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Yeah, they just sound incredible. So I think for me,
- 30:03Speaker 2: if I wanted to have like a dedicated track car
- 30:06Speaker 2: where I'd be happy to modify it and not use
- 30:08Speaker 2: it as a daily okay, that would be that would
- 30:10Speaker 2: be fun, I reckon. Another email that we got was
- 30:13Speaker 2: from Peter. He wrote, I love the show, very informative
- 30:17Speaker 2: and entertaining to boot. Also anti Dan, He's asked if
- 30:21Speaker 2: we can review the Subaru Forester. He's in the market
- 30:24Speaker 2: for a new car and this particular one keep getting
- 30:29Speaker 2: good reviews, so yes, we will try.
- 30:32Speaker 1: And what do you think of those?
- 30:34Speaker 2: Well?
- 30:34Speaker 1: Look, should we do the should we save it for
- 30:36Speaker 1: a room?
- 30:37Speaker 2: Yes? Ok, yeah, let's say it. I like them, but
- 30:39Speaker 2: there's a couple of things we need to talk about.
- 30:42Speaker 2: And he also wrote, always look forward to the next episode,
- 30:45Speaker 2: coming out to see how good he can get under
- 30:46Speaker 2: Paul's skin. Ah.
- 30:48Speaker 3: Wow, I got onto Paul's pants once and that was
- 30:51Speaker 3: there wasn't much of their experience.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Sorry Daniel. Sorry, didn't mean to bring the level down, bro.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Sorry man, But yeah, please do.
- 31:00Speaker 2: You like these guys? Contact at the Drive show dot com,
- 31:02Speaker 2: todau or we're on social media as well. But please
- 31:04Speaker 2: do leave us a rating because that pushes us up
- 31:06Speaker 2: the rankings and makes us visible to other people as well.
- 31:09Speaker 2: So and yeah, if you want to see our studio,
- 31:11Speaker 2: head to the social media's.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Head to the social media on Instagram. What do you
