- 0:38Speaker 1: Doing great, man.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Like you said, we're super close to college football.
- 0:41Speaker 1: We're gearing up.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Everybody's getting a little bit smarter about the slate and the schedule ahead every day, and we're here to help with that?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely.
- 0:50Speaker 2: How was your weekend?
- 0:53Speaker 1: Pretty good, really busy.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Took a long hike with both boys yesterday and got up early and bolted out of town.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Didn't get back till 10 o'clock.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Nice, and yeah, it's a great day.
- 1:05Speaker 1: How about you?
- 1:05Speaker 2: It was good.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Anna was up in Annapolis, my wife was with her seeing all her college girlfriends for the weekend, so it was just me and the two older kids.
- 1:13Speaker 2: So we were a little more mobile.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I went to the pool it's good stuff, it was nice.
- 1:17Speaker 2: And they start kindergarten.
- 1:18Speaker 2: My middle child starts kindergarten, older one starts third grade tomorrow.
- 1:22Speaker 2: So it's going to be pretty pretty big week, yeah.
- 1:25Speaker 1: So sorry for that.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Sorry for that.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Making moves.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Making moves.
- 1:28Speaker 2: It's time.
- 1:28Speaker 2: What are you drinking tonight?
- 1:31Speaker 1: I have gone back to one of my favorites, the Stone Beer Movie Lines Hell yeah.
- 1:37Speaker 1: So this is a go to for me, for our loyal listeners.
- 1:41Speaker 1: You know that it's my favorite beer.
- 1:42Speaker 1: It has been for a couple of years now.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I think you left a couple of those at my house, not maybe in the past six months or so.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I think I had a couple.
- 1:50Speaker 2: They're pretty darn good.
- 1:51Speaker 2: It's a damn good beer.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Fantastic, it's a damn good beer, especially if you're if you're if you're in the whole crazy hazy IPA phase and if you're a Richmond, you want something local.
- 1:59Speaker 2: They make it right here in town.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Can you get more local than that?
- 2:02Speaker 2: It's a solid option.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I'm drinking Pacifico.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I'm, straight up, still on Island Time.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I was at the beach last week, as you know, if you listen, last week.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I am still drinking Island Time.
- 2:12Speaker 2: It's not fall yet, it's still the off season, it's still the summer.
- 2:15Speaker 2: So a little more Pacifico until we start getting to the cold weather and beer seasons, all right, good stuff.
- 2:20Speaker 2: So tonight we're going to do bull predictions.
- 2:22Speaker 2: We're just going to hit you with like some spicy hot takes that Mike and I got going to the next season and we're going to talk a little about coaching hires.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Big off season for coaching hires.
- 2:31Speaker 2: We all know.
- 2:32Speaker 2: You probably forgot because they all happened a while ago, but there's some big storylines around.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Some teams that have changed changed leadership at the top and it's got some real impact.
- 2:41Speaker 2: And so, mike and I are going to talk a little bit about coaches that we just think you should, are interested in, you should pay attention to.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Before we do that, we'll do some bold predictions.
- 2:49Speaker 2: So, mike, I was going to offer up some takes.
- 2:51Speaker 2: We're going to say some things.
- 2:53Speaker 2: They're going to sound a little crazy, a little spicy, but we just think crazy enough to actually things are going to happen.
- 2:58Speaker 2: So I'm excited.
- 3:00Speaker 2: It's one of my favorites we did this last year of my favorite shows.
- 3:02Speaker 2: I want to do it again this year.
- 3:04Speaker 2: So do you want to start?
- 3:05Speaker 2: You want me to?
- 3:05Speaker 2: I would love it for you to start.
- 3:07Speaker 2: All right, let's do it this year.
- 3:09Speaker 2: This is the year that Penn State defeats Michigan and Ohio State.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Coming out of the gate, fire Hear me out.
- 3:21Speaker 1: That's a big one.
- 3:22Speaker 2: It's a big one.
- 3:22Speaker 2: It's a big one for starters.
- 3:24Speaker 2: This is the best team James Franklin has had since he's been there, and that includes McScorely and the Saquon squads.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Caitron Allen and Nick Singleton are two of the best running backs in one of the best doos, because they're both true freshmen.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Last year Both had great years coming back.
- 3:39Speaker 2: It's true sophomores.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Drew Allar, the five star.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Sean Clifford, the solid quarterback this is upgraded to his show.
- 3:45Speaker 2: They're bringing back eight guys on defense, a couple of which are they're talking a lot about.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I talked about them in the AP top 25.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Here's the thing If he doesn't do it this season, he might never.
- 3:54Speaker 2: This is as close as this is as much as he has closed the gap to both of those teams.
- 4:00Speaker 2: And for Franklin, I think he knows it's now or never and I'm giving him the nod.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I think he's got the squads.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I know Michigan, ohio State are both behemoths.
- 4:07Speaker 2: He gets one of them at home, I can't remember which one.
- 4:09Speaker 2: This is the year.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I don't hate it.
- 4:13Speaker 1: It is a bold prediction because that would mean basically they win the big 10.
- 4:19Speaker 1: They are number one or two in the country heading into the college football playoff.
- 4:23Speaker 1: All of a sudden Penn State, who nationally has flown a little bit under the radar, gotten a little disrespected over the last few years.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's certainly doable.
- 4:36Speaker 1: You know, on the boldness scale I would give it a nine.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Oh, is this a one to 10 scale?
- 4:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, okay, I like that One to 10.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I would give it a nine because I could easily see them knocking one of them off, you know, splitting that, so to speak.
- 4:51Speaker 1: And then who knows what will happen between Michigan, ohio State, which that could obviously go either way.
- 4:57Speaker 1: But yeah, they've beefed up a lot in the trenches, they've got it at the skill positions.
- 5:04Speaker 1: So, yeah, I mean, to beat both of those teams would be an incredible year for them.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Yeah, could certainly happen, but definitely very, very bold it is bold.
- 5:14Speaker 2: It is bold To be, and also worth noting, vegas on the Vegas win total is nine and a half.
- 5:18Speaker 2: The little juice to the over.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Vegas, to translate Vegas is fully expecting them to win every game on their schedule except, yeah, two of them those two, the glaring to, of course, or Michigan, ohio State.
- 5:29Speaker 2: So I think everybody recognized the Penn State is clearly, if there is a one a, one B situation, they're one C or they're two a, they are right there.
- 5:38Speaker 2: This is as close as they've been to both of those squads.
- 5:41Speaker 2: So that's that's where I am All right.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Let's keep it going.
- 5:43Speaker 2: What's what do you got for me?
- 5:46Speaker 1: So my first bold prediction is that the Colorado Buffalo's a K a coach prime and his boys fighting beyonds will go bowling this year.
- 5:59Speaker 1: What yeah, bowling.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yes, well, when a bowl game that is a bold, bold prediction.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Oh my God.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So go ahead, go, you go.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Vegas is over and under is three and a half.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Pull up their schedule.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I keep talking.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, vegas over and under is three and a half.
- 6:17Speaker 1: There's a certain amount of belief and hype being pumped into the program right now and I think especially for college kids that goes a long way.
- 6:25Speaker 1: They've turned over like 90% of the roster.
- 6:28Speaker 1: It's obviously coached primes first year there.
- 6:31Speaker 1: He's got all new staff, all new roster, a lot of talented guys coming in, no culture to speak of no system.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Again over unders three and a half.
- 6:42Speaker 1: That's why it's a bull prediction.
- 6:45Speaker 1: So I'm going out on a limb, but go ahead and hit me with the schedule and let's talk, let's talk.
- 6:50Speaker 2: So for starters, I'm going to go ahead and tell you my second bull prediction they're going to win two games or less.
- 6:54Speaker 1: This is great, that's not that bold, it's the over unders three and a half.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you went up to an half.
- 6:58Speaker 2: You went to an half over, I went one and a half lower.
- 6:59Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yours is bolder, your take is a nine, mine's is more of a six or seven.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Anyway, at TCU Nebraska at home Colorado State, who will be horrendous, at Oregon versus USC, at Arizona State, stanford at UCLA versus Oregon State versus Arizona, at Washington and then at Utah to end the season.
- 7:22Speaker 2: That's going to be hard to get six wins in there, really is.
- 7:26Speaker 2: I'm going to see if.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I can pick a few out.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Let's see.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Let me just see if I can pick a few game For those of you who care about the Colorado Buffalo's believe.
- 7:35Speaker 1: So one of the reasons I want to talk about this is because we've heard just so much about Colorado.
- 7:43Speaker 2: It's been on off season, so yeah, and don't get me wrong, I would.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I would really like for them to hit the under, but I just think they've got some juice going.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I don't know, we'll see.
- 7:56Speaker 1: So, okay, let me get a few.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Give me the six.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I'm going to start with the Gimmies, or at least the easier ones.
- 8:02Speaker 1: So Nebraska and Colorado State, all right, I'm going to give them Arizona State.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I'm going to give them Stanford.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I'm going to give them Arizona, okay, and I'm going to give them Washington State.
- 8:14Speaker 1: At.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Washington State.
- 8:16Speaker 2: You know, I still I think Nebraska's can be better than you think, I think.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I think they're another, I think they're another and we'll talk about them.
- 8:23Speaker 2: We talk about coaches, they're.
- 8:24Speaker 2: They're great, new, great new hire Matt rule.
- 8:26Speaker 2: They're a by low spot.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I've come around states terrible.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Stanford is a mess, you said, you said, you said, you said.
- 8:33Speaker 2: You say Arizona is in trouble, arizona State I think both those schools aren't very good.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Arizona and Arizona.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Arizona and Arizona is there, but yeah, terrible.
- 8:39Speaker 2: So you said Nebraska, colorado State, arizona, arizona State, whoever to you say, Colorado State, Arizona State, Stanford, Arizona and Washington State.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Okay, that's it.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think I don't give I give them no chance to be Oregon, usc, oregon.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I don't think I think Oregon State is actually pretty darn good.
- 8:57Speaker 1: No, I do too.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I think actually we're going to talk about this, but I think Oregon State is kind of a sleeper team, especially if DJ Yunga La really pans out, which I kind of think you will, they might either not going to be TCU week one, they're not going to be Utah.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Both those games are away, so the flip game they're not going to be.
- 9:12Speaker 2: They're not going to be Oregon?
- 9:13Speaker 1: No, no, I'm not going to be.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think they're going.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I don't think they're going into you, into UCLA and beating I kind of like what I'm seeing at Chip Kelly scene this year.
- 9:22Speaker 2: So it's, it's going to need a while.
- 9:24Speaker 2: You're going to need to brass going to be bad.
- 9:27Speaker 2: You're going to need the Arizona and Stanford schools to be bad, like we all thought they were.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Those are those four.
- 9:31Speaker 2: So I will be there's.
- 9:32Speaker 2: the point is there's a path On the flip side.
- 9:36Speaker 2: One of my bull to position was they're only going to win two and that's obviously super bullish, Was that?
- 9:41Speaker 1: was that a legitimate bull prediction?
- 9:42Speaker 1: Yes, I have written down my number three bull predictions.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Oh, so here we go.
- 9:45Speaker 1: We're killing kind of two birds with one stone.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Exactly Transition.
- 9:48Speaker 2: My next bull prediction I got Deon winning two or less.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I look, I will bet you on this?
- 9:54Speaker 1: I will we actually make a bet?
- 9:55Speaker 1: We should we should.
- 9:56Speaker 2: We'll all scammer will come up with a good wager.
- 9:58Speaker 2: We'll we'll close you guys on the next show.
- 10:00Speaker 2: What's our Colorado bet for this year?
- 10:02Speaker 2: Look, I think you're right.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I think the way it's trending is the right way.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I think obviously this is the most exciting Colorado's had since like God, I don't even know when I mean it's been.
- 10:11Speaker 2: It's been a long time since Colorado's had some real juice around it.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Yeah, like the 90s.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Yes, and they have some real pockets of talent, especially, especially on the outside.
- 10:19Speaker 2: The skill position guys they're in the trenches.
- 10:22Speaker 2: They are going to be horrendous and we're going to find that out really early and if you can't run or block or tackle or stop any or pass block, like all those skill guys, aren't going to matter if they're just running for their life the whole time.
- 10:34Speaker 2: So my, my fear for Deon, year one with so, because they don't know what's your scholarship counts not anywhere near 85 can't be.
- 10:41Speaker 2: There's just there are have a tough schedule.
- 10:45Speaker 2: They're already playing a lot of really good quarterbacks.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Like where, like what is it going to take?
- 10:51Speaker 2: It's going to take a while before she does standards.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Who I actually think is a good kid who did really well at the lower level moving up.
- 10:56Speaker 2: I think he, I think he is a D one quarterback.
- 10:57Speaker 2: It's going to be a deer in headlights for a while.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Well the problem too is they're not playing any of those quote unquote cupcakes.
- 11:06Speaker 1: You know, there's no Citadel.
- 11:13Speaker 2: No, we love picking on the.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Citadel.
- 11:14Speaker 1: There's no ease into it either.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I mean, you would love to see them start with with a game that they could figure some things out.
- 11:21Speaker 1: They've got at TCU Good luck.
- 11:22Speaker 1: The problem is going to be there's no system established.
- 11:27Speaker 1: There's, you know, they're going to be some growing pains.
- 11:31Speaker 2: What they needed to do was to open with the Colorado State game, which they just didn't get.
- 11:34Speaker 2: The game is going to be really interesting, be really fun to watch.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Unfortunately, you and I are going to be in Lane Stadium at the exact same second is the Nebraska game at noon on Denver Knife.
- 11:44Speaker 2: That game, colorado Nebraska, both teams probably coming in 0 and 1 or 1 and 0.
- 11:47Speaker 2: That'll be a real pivot point.
- 11:50Speaker 2: That's a long time rivalry, those fools like each other going way back.
- 11:53Speaker 2: So that'll be, that'll be cool.
- 11:54Speaker 2: All right, let's move on before we'll talk about.
- 11:55Speaker 1: one of the things Go ahead, though, before we move on, is that here we are again talking about Dan Sanders and Colorado.
- 12:01Speaker 1: They've been the story throughout the offseason.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Good for him and it's almost it's a win.
- 12:08Speaker 1: No matter what happens for them this year, all eyes are going to be on them.
- 12:11Speaker 1: If they overperform even a little bit, you know they're going to continue to ride that momentum.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I think if they get any, I think if they get three, four, I mean it would take.
- 12:21Speaker 2: It would take a winless season for them to be like whoa this was actually a bad idea.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Like, as long as they're competitive, they look decent and they bring in 25, 30 more kids who are want to play Colorado, want to play for Dion, and I think it's a pretty good bet he's going to do that.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Like this thing could trend correctly.
- 12:38Speaker 2: But anyway, so that's my.
- 12:40Speaker 2: So your first one's Dion, your turn, because I did Dion less than two or two or less.
- 12:44Speaker 2: I just went.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I did Colorado going over and then I did Dion going under to her last, okay, okay we'll count that, let me, let me.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Let me get squared away here.
- 12:56Speaker 1: All right, I've got another over under.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Bama has a 10 and a half over under.
- 13:05Speaker 1: This is bold because it's Bama and it's bold because it's Saban.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I'm taking the under.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Okay, that's it.
- 13:13Speaker 2: What's taking the under?
- 13:14Speaker 2: How many wins do you think they get?
- 13:17Speaker 2: How many wins do you think they get 10.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Do you think they get to 10?
- 13:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm sure they get to 10.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not sure they get to 10.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I'm just saying nine or 10.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I mean, we're talking.
- 13:27Speaker 1: This is why it's tough, because, either way, the floor and the ceiling we talked about this a little bit last episode.
- 13:34Speaker 1: This is a team where the floor and the ceiling are this close, the margin is this close.
- 13:39Speaker 1: But again they're on the SEC West.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Even a quote unquote rebuilding Bama is still in the top five, expected to compete for a national championship.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I just think they have too many new pieces.
- 13:52Speaker 1: They have too many guys that are unproven.
- 13:55Speaker 1: They've got new coordinators.
- 13:56Speaker 1: They've got landmines all over the schedule, as usual, and there are worse some.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I think the reason I say this and the reason why it's bold is because there were so many chinks in the armor last year that were very unsavory and very unbama-like and it just makes you kind of wonder if things are starting to trend back in the other direction.
- 14:22Speaker 2: So I'm fighting every fiber of my being not just to fully embrace the bearish take on Bama, because I've done this before and I've been burned before and I've been personally emotionally hurt by them before.
- 14:34Speaker 2: But I totally agree with you.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I think Bryce Young and Jameer Gibbs easily the two best players on their roster, and then obviously Will Anish and number three are all gone.
- 14:42Speaker 2: So who were their go-to guys are gone.
- 14:44Speaker 2: The quarterback fight is far from over.
- 14:46Speaker 2: They're bringing somebody in two new coordinators.
- 14:48Speaker 2: They're scheduled at Texas which they might lose.
- 14:51Speaker 2: They might lose that game.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I'm gonna say that really quietly because I'm scared to get roasted for if I get wrong, at A&M 23, which is gonna be plucky, tennessee LSU and even the iron bowl is away.
- 15:03Speaker 2: That's what.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I was gonna say, iron bowl is always, always, no matter how those seams are, no matter how those seams are yeah, so I love this pick.
- 15:10Speaker 2: I don't think it's very bold, so I'm gonna give you.
- 15:11Speaker 2: I'm only gonna give, because you said 10 and a half and you only said I think over under.
- 15:16Speaker 1: It would be bold if I said they were gonna win six games, but we both know that's not gonna happen.
- 15:20Speaker 2: But honestly, eight and four would be a fault, would be a bottom falling out year for them Picking against Savin.
- 15:25Speaker 1: in any case, like I'm scared he's gonna like pop out behind me.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I know seriously because it goes to Savin.
- 15:29Speaker 2: It's coming to kill us.
- 15:29Speaker 2: He's listening.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Right now I'm wrapping my head in tinfoil because we're all screwed Now if I look in the mirror and say, take the under, take the under, take the under, he's gonna appear somewhere.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Yeah, can't even 100%.
- 15:41Speaker 2: I love that pick.
- 15:42Speaker 2: I love the bold prediction for you.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I'm terrified for the reality of that.
- 15:46Speaker 2: All right, good stuff, let's keep it going.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Bold prediction number three Mike Elko, the head coach of Duke.
- 15:52Speaker 2: He was a former DC at Texas A&M.
- 15:54Speaker 2: He led that defense to be super nasty and has Duke performing really well.
- 15:57Speaker 2: He is going to be the top candidate and hired for the top job this off season.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Here's why it might not happen.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Duke schedule is brutal.
- 16:08Speaker 2: They play all of the best teams in the ACC and they're gonna have their work.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I think they're Vegas over under is like eight and a half eight.
- 16:17Speaker 2: It's not great.
- 16:18Speaker 2: They've got their work out for them.
- 16:19Speaker 2: But Mike Elko has done a phenomenal job For coaches, for teams, for programs.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Looking for their next coach and like who do we think could potentially be the next legacy team fired?
- 16:31Speaker 2: It could be, let's say, james Franklin bottoms out.
- 16:34Speaker 2: You know, we just pretty much love him.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think I can see that happening, unless they bombed this year.
- 16:39Speaker 1: What if Michigan?
- 16:41Speaker 2: beats the breaks off Ohio State.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Is there any chance Ryan Day?
- 16:43Speaker 2: I don't know, who knows, it's impossible at this point to see it who it is, but every year there are two or three major jobs.
- 16:51Speaker 2: This past year it was Nebraska, it was Johnson.
- 16:53Speaker 2: It'll be somebody.
- 16:54Speaker 2: It'll be somebody.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Maybe Kyle Winningham at Utah Retires, I don't know.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Mike Elko is going to be the top name and the coaching hire and he's going to take the top job.
- 17:03Speaker 2: This is last year at Duke.
- 17:04Speaker 2: He's going somewhere great.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Next year he's going to get a massive deal.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Good for him.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Mike Elko is going to be.
- 17:11Speaker 2: I'm not necessarily super bullish on Duke this year just because their schedule is so bad.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I think it's.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I actually think it's really really tough, but they.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Mike Elko is Scott.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Scott is stock, but that's the roof.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I like it.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I like it.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I want to see that happen.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I've got a.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I've got a bold one.
- 18:07Speaker 1: It's not the most fun to talk about, because I don't love talking about postseason awards, but it's in keeping with my tradition from last year where I boldly predicted that Bryce Young would be the first Heisman winner that won Heismans back to back since Archie Griffin.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I'm going to predicts Caleb Williams.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Caleb Williams, he's the Heisman again.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Back to back.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Make the time ever.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Make the case.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Make the case for him, in case anybody who doesn't know anything about college football, make the case for Caleb Williams.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Well, he is obviously the returning Heisman trophy winner.
- 18:41Speaker 1: He has talent all around him, specifically a wide receiver, specifically a tight end.
- 18:46Speaker 1: He's going to light up scoreboards every year.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Their offense was not the problem last year, obviously.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Lincoln Ryan Lee had things super dialed in and I do think they're going to take a small step forward on defense.
- 18:58Speaker 1: It won't matter, he's going to be in New York either way.
- 19:01Speaker 1: So we're talking about is he the best out of the, or does somebody make a national championship run and surprise everybody and takes a seat?
- 19:16Speaker 1: What do you say?
- 19:16Speaker 1: Okay, Well.
- 19:18Speaker 2: So I'm actually really glad because one of my bold predictions was also a Heisman, but it was not Caleb Williams.
- 19:23Speaker 2: So I'm looking at the Heisman's list and the number one Heisman odds get right now is Caleb Williams.
- 19:31Speaker 2: He's about plus 250, plus 300, depending on where you look.
- 19:34Speaker 2: This is the best odds in the country for Heisman.
- 19:36Speaker 2: So not that bold on my part, not that bold but still long shot three to one.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Anybody who sports bets will tell you, hitting a plus 300 is not easy.
- 19:43Speaker 1: And again bold.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Historically speaking, only one person has ever won the Heisman back to back.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Yes.
- 19:50Speaker 2: So from that point, I say but behind him it's Jaden Daniels is number two and plus a thousand the LSU quarterback, which is ridiculous.
- 20:00Speaker 2: I refuse to even acknowledge that's true.
- 20:03Speaker 2: I refuse to acknowledge it, because he is just not.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Nothing can make my heart sing more than Jaden.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Daniels, joe Milvies like top 10 and he's in the same boat as less of a boat than Jaden Daniels because he didn't even play hardly last year.
- 20:19Speaker 2: So Jaden Daniels about plus a thousand, Quinn Ewers plus 1200,.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Jordan Traffas plus 12,.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Kate Clubnick plus 14,.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Drake May plus 18.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Hey Clubnick didn't play at all hardly last year too.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Sam Hartman plus 1400.
- 20:31Speaker 2: And then my Heisman trophy winner, my Heisman trophy pick, give it to me Michael Penix, uw.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Michael Penix UW is going to win the Heisman.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I love him this year, Roma Duzzi and we've got phenomenal wide receivers.
- 20:49Speaker 2: The defense is good.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Kaylen DeBorge is just a phenomenal coach.
- 20:52Speaker 2: He has proven to score a bajillion points.
- 20:54Speaker 2: So one.
- 20:55Speaker 2: The reason I bring him up, the reason why I like him so much, is because Kayle Williams isn't going to win it just because of what you said the historical norms.
- 21:02Speaker 2: He's number one consensus pick.
- 21:04Speaker 2: If he stumbles a couple of games, I just don't see him putting it out there.
- 21:09Speaker 2: I could easily see him calling off the dogs and say you know, I'm going number one, I'm shutting it down for a hangnail and I can't play the last six games.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I'll see the NFL draft so I could see him for a lot of reasons.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Kind of check it.
- 21:19Speaker 2: And not to mention voters are just biased against the previous winner.
- 21:23Speaker 2: If I'm being honest, Tim Tebow should have won it more than once.
- 21:26Speaker 2: He did not.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Well, the voters don't know what they're doing anyway, so you have my agreement there Also true, I've seen this happen before, where repeat Heisman winners probably should have won and they didn't.
- 21:37Speaker 2: So I think Kayle Williams has a lot of things working as in that regard.
- 21:40Speaker 2: And again, I just refused to bet Jane Daniels.
- 21:42Speaker 2: So right there, michael Penex is next and I'll tell you something.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I'll tell you what I did.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I put on a bet, I placed a bet on Michael Penex to win the Heisman.
- 21:50Speaker 2: I did at plus 1600.
- 21:53Speaker 2: And if they win, I am getting all of the Patreon members a gift.
- 21:58Speaker 2: I'm done.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I'm thinking like a golf shirt, something like that.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Yeah like our logo embroidered.
- 22:03Speaker 2: I put it's a $40 bet, so if it wins it's going to pay out like was that like 600 bucks or something like that?
- 22:09Speaker 2: No, yeah, like 600 bucks, something like that.
- 22:11Speaker 2: So.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I love it.
- 22:13Speaker 2: You might be thinking of, so I, it's a fund, and the fund is called the PPP fund.
- 22:19Speaker 2: And you might be thinking to yourself Mike, the PPP fund, that's COVID relief, that was the payment protection plan.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Oh, I was thinking that, yeah, that's what you were thinking, mike.
- 22:27Speaker 2: That's what you're thinking Wrong.
- 22:28Speaker 2: You're in my brain, bro.
- 22:30Speaker 2: You're wrong.
- 22:31Speaker 2: This is the PENIX for Polos for the Patreon fund.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Oh, penix for Polos for.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Patreon.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Anytime you hit me with some alliteration like that, I just get chills.
- 22:42Speaker 2: This is the PPP fund.
- 22:43Speaker 2: The PPP fund that matters.
- 22:44Speaker 2: If you are a Patreon member and he hits the Heisman, I am sending you a official exclusive Mike Blitz Polo that we're going to make and put in mailbox to send to you so you can go.
- 22:54Speaker 2: And you can go hit the links and impress all your friends with your new Mike Blitz gear If he wins the Heisman.
- 22:59Speaker 2: So I love the PIC.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I think he's going to have a great year.
- 23:02Speaker 1: It does worry me a little bit that K-State is without Duce Vaughn this year.
- 23:07Speaker 1: He was so much of their offense last year and I don't know that you replace him.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Maybe that means PENIX does even better, but maybe it means there's a small hole in their offense that is tough to fill because that guy was electric.
- 23:22Speaker 2: You're talking about K-State, that's Duce Vaughn You're talking about.
- 23:25Speaker 1: K-State.
- 23:25Speaker 1: I'm sorry, yeah, penix, you done, you done.
- 23:30Speaker 2: So it's.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I mean, don't be wrong, like he's the other things that are working against him, is he's?
- 23:34Speaker 2: It's he's no one's watching you dub football.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Unfortunately, no, this is.
- 23:38Speaker 2: This has been the Pac-12 like narrative for Virginia years.
- 23:40Speaker 2: It's like if you're not, if you're not because they play at 10 o'clock at night sometimes later.
- 23:45Speaker 2: some of those games kick off at literally at midnight.
- 23:47Speaker 2: That's just tough to do.
- 23:47Speaker 2: So he's not going to have the eyes on him.
- 23:49Speaker 2: He's got that working against him and obviously you dub schedules also just tough to.
- 23:53Speaker 2: He's going to play, they're going to play, all the powers, including a lot of really good quarterbacks.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Everything is still there bone X, Kale Williams, the number, the best quarterback in the country.
- 24:01Speaker 2: So if you don't like to PENIX pick, honestly it could go a lot of places just in that own conference.
- 24:06Speaker 1: So but remember, the people should be.
- 24:07Speaker 1: A lot of offense, though, and a lot, of, a lot of offense PPP fund.
- 24:11Speaker 2: He's got two phenomenal receivers.
- 24:12Speaker 2: One's in all, American Got a great defense.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Give me, give me PENIX.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Give me PENIX to give me my new shirt.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Cool your turn.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Um, you know.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I want to.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I want to throw one out there Just for fun, and I hate to do it.
- 24:31Speaker 1: The University of North Carolina football is in the top 25 and returning potentially one of the best quarterbacks in the country, drake may absolutely as far as the NFL draft board is concerned, for sure, oh, I sorta forget.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I think they finish outside of the top 25 and I think they struggle mightily.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I think they win seven games this year, something like that.
- 24:54Speaker 1: I think they're really overrated, I hate to say it, and so my bold prediction is what's their?
- 25:02Speaker 1: What did I wrote down there over under.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Anyway, they go under and they let's say they win seven games.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't, you know.
- 25:10Speaker 2: It is bold because I think I think there's.
- 25:12Speaker 2: I think UNC schedule is frankly not that tough, so there's a lot of room for them to get there, but frankly I'm not much of looking at it right now.
- 25:20Speaker 2: South Carolina, week one Ooh that's a good that's a great week game and week to week two.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I don't remember the game of the century App State.
- 25:28Speaker 1: App State.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I know Well, that's one of the reasons I'm kind of that's why it's bold, but that's why I'm thinking this.
- 25:33Speaker 2: And those it's not sleep on the monster that is UVA week six.
- 25:36Speaker 2: They also got that one, the schedule.
- 25:37Speaker 2: So you know, you never, just never know.
- 25:40Speaker 1: And so does surging a little bit, which is kind of an out weird out of conference game.
- 25:44Speaker 2: He's replacing Tanner Morgan and Roy Bream, but they do have some momentum up there.
- 25:48Speaker 2: I can get that, I'll get behind that, but my, my knock on UNC is this is not any talent anywhere.
- 25:53Speaker 2: I mean, obviously, drake May is great and Mac Brown is a probably a hall of fame coach.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I get all that.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Gene Chiswick is horrific defensive coordinator.
- 26:00Speaker 2: He's back.
- 26:01Speaker 2: I don't think that defense is going to be any better.
- 26:04Speaker 2: No, I, actually I'm.
- 26:05Speaker 2: I'm with you on this.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I wouldn't be surprised.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Six and six, even five and seven, although that's scheduled, they're going to win six games.
- 26:12Speaker 2: They had at the end.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Nc state they're going to win six, so they might not win.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I think seven and five is about right.
- 26:18Speaker 1: I think people when you look at the under two when you look at the ACC, you know you've got Florida state, you've got Clemson at the top and then there's a whole lot in the middle.
- 26:26Speaker 1: So there are a lot of games for them that are in conference games that could go.
- 26:29Speaker 1: You know there aren't.
- 26:32Speaker 1: There aren't any shore losses on the slate.
- 26:34Speaker 1: I mean you've got Georgia Tech, which is probably a sure win, virginia Campbell, sure, you know, sure wins.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Nc state, you know, lost their all world quarterback and so yeah, you know it is bold for a reason.
- 26:47Speaker 1: So we'll see how it plays out.
- 26:49Speaker 1: But just thought that was a fun one out of the ACC.
- 26:51Speaker 1: We've got some Carolina fans listening, so I can dig it, We'll see.
- 26:56Speaker 2: So I just looked it up.
- 26:57Speaker 2: So the UNC win total is actually eight and a half so Vegas is a little more bullish than we are Over is plus one, nineteen minus 152.
- 27:03Speaker 2: So I think seven and a half is is is a pretty hot take, To be fair giving their schedule, and honestly I like it.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I like it a lot because I love Drake May.
- 27:11Speaker 2: I would love if my Washington football team commanders Redskins whoever you want to call them would draft him.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I think he'd be great to replace Sam Howell.
- 27:18Speaker 2: I don't think it's very good.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Another UNC quarterback, but outside was great in college though he was great in college.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Sam Howell was a stud in college, especially when he had weapons.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Yeah, drake May spoiler doesn't have any weapons is here.
- 27:28Speaker 2: So I mean we'll see, we'll see.
- 27:30Speaker 2: But I like that pick a lot, okay, do you have any more?
- 27:34Speaker 2: I got one more, okay, and then I got a bunch of really mild takes mild ball predictions which you can roast me for.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Last one Hugh Freese is going to win the SEC coach of the year.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Let me tell you why I can see that.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Let me tell you why Because Auburn is awful last year.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Auburn is all pretty good this year.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Yes, that's, that's, that's the headlining point, that's top line point on the resume right there.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Pretty bad.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Last year Won't suck as much this year.
- 27:57Speaker 2: To George is probably going to win the SEC.
- 27:59Speaker 2: The guy who the reigning champ, they don't win that.
- 28:03Speaker 2: If, if, if, if I don't say if Saban wins it, he probably doesn't win either.
- 28:08Speaker 2: If Tennessee or LSU in the SEC, I think Brian Kelly or Josh I will get it.
- 28:13Speaker 2: But I think you I can both acknowledge we're outside shots at this moment.
- 28:15Speaker 2: So my point I'm expecting Kirby to win the SEC, but not that award, because they don't want to give it to them.
- 28:21Speaker 2: They're going to want to see who improved their team the most, who made them.
- 28:25Speaker 1: give me the win total that gets him there, god.
- 28:29Speaker 2: So I'm going to go.
- 28:31Speaker 2: I'm going to go.
- 28:31Speaker 2: What is Auburn's predicted win total?
- 28:33Speaker 2: I'm going to look that up real quick, I think.
- 28:36Speaker 2: I mean it's got to be, it's got to be.
- 28:37Speaker 2: At least they're over under six and a half.
- 28:39Speaker 2: I think they've got to win eight, eight, yeah, I think to put it at eight, I think eight is the only look.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I actually have this other schedule right in front of me.
- 28:50Speaker 1: really quick, I was going to, oh, my god, they open up with the Charmin soft.
- 28:53Speaker 1: They were open.
- 28:54Speaker 2: They they're going to open the season up.
- 28:55Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 28:56Speaker 2: They're going to open season three and oh, umass, at Cal Samford, samford, week three, at A&M, week four, and then I think it's, then it's murderers row at Texas A&M versus Georgia.
- 29:07Speaker 2: At home at LSU versus Ole Miss.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Who knows what Ole Miss is going to look like, like it's there, I could see.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I could definitely see it playing out where they win eight games for sure.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Yep, yeah, I think, I think.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Yeah, umass, colorado, samford, give me one of the three.
- 29:22Speaker 2: Texas, georgia LSU, so that's four.
- 29:24Speaker 2: And then you got Ole Miss.
- 29:25Speaker 2: You got Ole Miss, mississippi State, split those five.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Vanderbilt, arkansas win both.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Vanderbilt, arkansas, new Mexico State all winnable, yes, Alabama, eight and four.
- 29:35Speaker 2: There it is, I think that's it.
- 29:36Speaker 2: The only losses are two of the three.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Texas A&M, georgia LSU, one of the Mississippi schools in Alabama, eight and four.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Auburn, hugh Freeze yeah, wins the.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Yeah, the big swing games for them are going to be Arkansas Big question mark.
- 29:52Speaker 1: They took a step back last year but KJ Jefferson spent much of the year banged up.
- 29:57Speaker 1: And then Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Both of those teams could be really good this year.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Mississippi State especially is flying completely under the radar.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Very probably should be in the top 20.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Nobody's talking about Will Rogers, for whatever reason.
- 30:10Speaker 1: And they've got.
- 30:12Speaker 1: I want to say it's like it's an incredible number.
- 30:15Speaker 1: I want to say it's like 19 seniors returning like all of the depth and experience in the world.
- 30:21Speaker 1: They could really be a wrench in the SEC West.
- 30:25Speaker 1: That's another conversation.
- 30:26Speaker 1: But those are the swing games.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 30:29Speaker 2: I think people are unnecessarily bearish on Mississippi State just because of obviously RIP to their coach and obviously Zacharnet is more of a defense run the ball.
- 30:38Speaker 2: I think what's that going to look like?
- 30:40Speaker 2: But no, I think you're right.
- 30:41Speaker 2: I think, given what they're bringing back, Mississippi State also always gets disrespected.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Correct, but what they're bringing back from they've, they've, they've, they've a, they've a hostel is all get out stadium, obviously, the cowbells the cowbells.
- 30:51Speaker 2: The cowbells Totally illegal.
- 30:53Speaker 1: But that's all.
- 30:53Speaker 1: That's the only reason, only reason.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Will Rogers, a ton of returning seniors like windows.
- 30:58Speaker 2: You put those things together, you can put together a team that's going to be a thorn in a lot of people's side.
- 31:03Speaker 2: So I think I'm with you there.
- 31:05Speaker 1: But yes, auburn, eight and four, maybe nine and four, with a bull in and also who knows what Texas A&M is going to look like, Like they're on every single SEC team schedule that plays them.
- 31:15Speaker 1: You're like is that a win Is?
- 31:18Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 31:18Speaker 2: I think they could be five and seven or eleven and one.
- 31:21Speaker 2: I really I just I don't know.
- 31:23Speaker 1: I do think that their their season will go the way that their early season goes.
- 31:30Speaker 1: If they have early season success, it will build into momentum.
- 31:32Speaker 1: If things start looking shaky, they will fall hard.
- 31:37Speaker 1: I would rather have them on the schedule, on the back end of the schedule.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you, all right.
- 31:42Speaker 2: So that's is our bull predictions.
- 31:44Speaker 2: I've got a couple like honorable mention ones.
- 31:46Speaker 2: These aren't actually aren't that bull.
- 31:47Speaker 2: I was kind of like my drafts Bull predictions.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Let me hear them.
- 31:50Speaker 2: OK.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Well, one of them is like I think a and m is not going to work out.
- 31:52Speaker 2: I got, I got, I got Bobby Petrino and Jimbo Fisher doing this.
- 31:56Speaker 2: They go like seven and five, everyone's bad.
- 31:59Speaker 2: That's not that.
- 32:00Speaker 2: I would love that.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's kind of what I think.
- 32:02Speaker 2: That's kind of what I think is going to happen.
- 32:04Speaker 2: It's really not that bold.
- 32:06Speaker 1: I just think it's hard when you've got some talent.
- 32:07Speaker 1: But yeah, I like it.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Yeah, number two, this is going to be the last year of the pack 12.
- 32:12Speaker 2: That already happened.
- 32:13Speaker 2: I wrote this down a month ago.
- 32:14Speaker 2: That already happens.
- 32:16Speaker 2: That doesn't count at all, it's not.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I mean, if we would, if we would have been more on the ball and we would have recorded earlier, you'd look like a genius.
- 32:23Speaker 2: It's true, I look at you have.
- 32:24Speaker 2: We have courted the show two weeks ago.
- 32:25Speaker 2: What have been there?
- 32:26Speaker 2: Number three, texas, is in fact back.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Yes, I would agree.
- 32:30Speaker 1: I agree In fact back, we are both on the record.
- 32:33Speaker 1: We're going to keep saying it.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that bold because it's not that bold, because they're so good they literally are the best in the conference at every single level.
- 32:43Speaker 2: But it's Texas, so Texas, like, finds a way to do this.
- 32:45Speaker 2: So that's why it's a little bit.
- 32:48Speaker 1: People are, people are.
- 32:50Speaker 1: They've been hurt before and they're afraid.
- 32:52Speaker 1: And I get it.
- 32:53Speaker 1: This is, and they've been, a punching bag.
- 32:55Speaker 1: They've been a little bit of a punchline for a while, and so that narrative sticks until you shake it off.
- 33:02Speaker 1: But that's that's.
- 33:03Speaker 1: That's football, baby.
- 33:04Speaker 2: That's football baby.
- 33:04Speaker 2: And last one, I've got the over under on members of the Forens family that are fired this year as point five and I'm taking the over those you don't know.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Kirk Forens is a legendary coach.
- 33:17Speaker 2: I was been a million years.
- 33:17Speaker 2: He hired his son, brian Forens, from the offense, worst offense, and God knows how long, just absolutely put your the total mess.
- 33:25Speaker 2: I think one or both of the Forens men on the in that, on that coaching staff are fired at the end of this season.
- 33:33Speaker 1: That's.
- 33:34Speaker 1: That's a good one.
- 33:34Speaker 1: I like that.
- 33:35Speaker 1: You dunked on them a little bit last year, so I like the.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I like the continuation.
- 33:39Speaker 1: They did sneak into the top 25 in the AP poll, so a lot of people are are wondering if Kade McNamara Michigan transfer is going to have the impact on offense.
- 33:50Speaker 1: I don't think it's a personnel issue per se, but no, I think they'll be stout on defense again.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Yes, I would.
- 33:58Speaker 2: I would does nothing but put offensive line in the NFL.
- 34:00Speaker 2: They've gotten incredible defense against me, a very salty unit.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Begin to be able to compete with everybody on their schedule.
- 34:07Speaker 2: The question is is like how?
- 34:09Speaker 2: How, in love of God, was there often so bad in 2022?
- 34:12Speaker 2: Obviously, spencer Peters and Alex Padilla are both just horrible college quarterbacks.
- 34:16Speaker 2: No respect, good luck with the rest of your rest of your ways, but is Kade McNamara going to make them better?
- 34:21Speaker 2: And if Brian Forens running the show, I'm going to say no, so that's my take.
- 34:26Speaker 1: So here's what's.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Here's what's fun about this take is not only is Iowa in the top 25.
- 34:31Speaker 1: They're over.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Underwind total is eight and a half.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Yeah, they're expected to have a good year, like a pretty good year, eight and a half in the big 10.
- 34:39Speaker 1: You know you're knocking on the door.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Maybe something goes your way.
- 34:43Speaker 1: You know you're looking at.
- 34:44Speaker 1: So nine ten win regular season.
- 34:46Speaker 2: So I mean honestly, I and I see they should win eight and a half.
- 34:49Speaker 2: I'm looking at their schedule right now.
- 34:50Speaker 2: So they're playing at Penn State that's tough at Wisconsin Camp Randall in October.
- 34:55Speaker 2: By then they'll probably have their offense figured out a little bit.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Yes, I was going to have things going a little bit talk about fickle here in a split second, but other than that it's a lot, a lot, a lot of very winnable games Utah State, iowa State, western Michigan, michigan State, purdue, minnesota, northwestern Rutgers, illinois, nebraska Maybe some of those teams are pretty good.
- 35:13Speaker 2: I would kill for that schedule.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Yeah, seriously, I mean that's right, that's.
- 35:17Speaker 2: I mean, obviously there's a, there's a.
- 35:19Speaker 2: I could easily see Iowa being 10 and two.
- 35:21Speaker 2: If Kade McNamara is OK, if he is there, if they are, they're going to stuff, they're going to stuff out.
- 35:28Speaker 2: So much.
- 35:28Speaker 2: So many of these bad teams offense with their Iowa State down.
- 35:31Speaker 1: this year they're going to state the only team on that gambling fiasco.
- 35:36Speaker 2: They're going to have their like third team walk on golf instructor.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Rutgers, Illinois, whatever the Iowa.
- 35:42Speaker 2: State over under is Take the hammer the unders.
- 35:44Speaker 2: I don't even know who's playing for that team.
- 35:45Speaker 1: I don't care how well McNamara plays, I'm taking Iowa's over.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Baby, give it to me.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Look at the schedule.
- 35:51Speaker 2: I'd still, it's true.
- 35:52Speaker 2: So eight and a half, that might, that actually might be just good bet.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Take the over on eight and a half.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Now I'm taking the under because I'm all right.
- 35:57Speaker 2: I've already said I would.
- 35:58Speaker 2: I already said that France is getting one of the French is getting.
- 36:01Speaker 1: You've already said that, but maybe you didn't look at the schedule.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Maybe I didn't look at the schedule, so that's that's why it's bold, yeah.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Wisconsin's a loss.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, there's like two other losses out here.
- 36:11Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll figure it out.
- 36:12Speaker 2: All right, cool, let's.
- 36:14Speaker 2: So that's.
- 36:14Speaker 2: That's the end of our bold predictions.
- 36:15Speaker 2: We're going to revisit this in December.
- 36:18Speaker 2: That was one of my favorite episodes last year.
- 36:19Speaker 2: We have to look back at the color.
- 36:21Speaker 2: What are we thinking?
- 36:21Speaker 2: We said that, so we'll have a chance to make sure you keep precedes.
- 36:26Speaker 2: You now have everything in print of what we said, so now you can roast us accordingly come December, when they're all wrong.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Let's talk about some coaching hires.
- 36:35Speaker 2: So it is still the off season for only blah six more days.
- 36:39Speaker 2: So we're we're we're still talking off season a little bit.
- 36:42Speaker 2: I want to talk about some coaching hires.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Mike and I are just going to kind of walk through a little list of coaching.
- 36:46Speaker 2: I really like just ones that think are interesting.
- 36:48Speaker 2: I'm going to start like I mean, all these guys are by low, all these guys are our cell, or was it by low cell high?
- 36:56Speaker 2: Yes, all by low cell high, because they all replaced guys got fired who are terrible.
- 37:00Speaker 2: But I'm going to go ahead and say, anyway, love Matt rule, love Matt rule.
- 37:02Speaker 2: At Nebraska, he, that rule was, is a wreck, is a rebuilding coaches dream.
- 37:09Speaker 2: He did it at Temple, he did it at Baylor he went to the NFL for a minute with Carolina Panthers.
- 37:14Speaker 2: It was a horrendous tragedy.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Nothing worked out.
- 37:17Speaker 2: He's back.
- 37:18Speaker 2: I love Matt rule.
- 37:20Speaker 2: At Nebraska, I think I think Scott for all is actually less a decent amount of talent, yeah, and Lincoln.
- 37:25Speaker 2: So I think, actually think.
- 37:27Speaker 2: I think expectations have been really lowered there, which is crazy to think about big red host nation.
- 37:32Speaker 2: But I think I think it's Matt rules going to jump out the page.
- 37:35Speaker 2: A big winner early.
- 37:38Speaker 1: No, I think that's a good hire.
- 37:39Speaker 1: I agree with you there and it's sometimes you can be a fantastic coach and not have success in the NFL, because it's just a different game.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Everything is different about it.
- 37:50Speaker 1: You're you're dealing with with men.
- 37:52Speaker 1: You're more of like a CEO.
- 37:54Speaker 1: You know you're kind of managing things from afar.
- 37:58Speaker 1: College coaching is just a totally different process and a lot of really successful college coaches do not pan out in the NFL.
- 38:06Speaker 1: There's no real recipe for how to manage that.
- 38:08Speaker 1: It's just a different, different animal and so I think maybe he's just a really really good college coach and so I think you know they probably really lucked out getting him.
- 38:18Speaker 1: So yeah, I agree with you.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Bullish on Nebraska.
- 38:21Speaker 2: All right, give me your top coaching hire.
- 38:23Speaker 1: And yet they did have a lot of talent left behind.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Yeah, because that's why I thought Scott Frost was going to succeed, because he was recruiting and doing, doing well on that end.
- 38:31Speaker 1: I just wanted to do well.
- 38:33Speaker 1: I just never did.
- 38:33Speaker 1: I did too, I would.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Yeah, scott Frost in college in Nebraska was great, so it would have been great if he would have worked out in 13.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Oh, ucf, I really thought he had a going, but I didn't do it.
- 38:45Speaker 1: I love the Luke Fickle hire.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Yeah, me too.
- 38:47Speaker 1: So Luke Fickle at Cincinnati.
- 38:49Speaker 1: His overall record 63 and 25.
- 38:52Speaker 1: That includes Another stop as well.
- 38:56Speaker 1: But yeah, luke, luke fickle had things rolling, put Cincinnati back on the map, had him knocking on the door every year.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Now, as it was constant, was constant has everything you need to have a successful program.
- 39:07Speaker 1: They've got the brand name.
- 39:08Speaker 1: They've got a pretty solid recruiting footprint Not great, but solid enough to succeed.
- 39:13Speaker 1: They've got a passionate administration and fan base that care about that what's happening, and they play in the Big Ten.
- 39:24Speaker 1: So you've got it, yeah, so yeah, I think it lines up well for him to make an impact and have a good year one Even.
- 39:30Speaker 1: I think he can step in and make an impact right away.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Yeah, so I went back forth with rule, rule and fickle.
- 39:35Speaker 2: I'm obviously really bullish on fickle as well.
- 39:37Speaker 2: I almost picked him as my top hire as well.
- 39:39Speaker 2: You, you, all, you, you miss you glaze over his most impressive thing he did since Natty he got them to the playoff the first ever team to get to for g5 to the playoffs super awesome, and he's kind of a quarterback whisperer which, yes, I think, if you're gonna, if you're gonna make that step and and Transitions, you know, from a you know a lesser program to the big-time spotlight.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Yeah, you kind of have to have a brand and what you do and he always X, his guys always execute well and he gets high-level quarterback play from whoever is behind center.
- 40:13Speaker 2: So, yeah, and obviously, yeah, I mean obviously doesn't writer now playing for the Falcons?
- 40:16Speaker 2: It's really well them.
- 40:17Speaker 2: I there, you know they.
- 40:19Speaker 2: They brought Philo on.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Go over from the office of coordinators great office of credit, the big thing um Tanner Mordecai, the quarterback from SMU, the thing that's gonna look differences.
- 40:27Speaker 2: For a million years Wisconsin's kind of philosophy, kind of ethos has been we are, it's cold, it is snowy, we are going to pound the ball and run, run the ball as hard as we can Because it is tough to play in that wide open offense in the elements and they've always thought that this year they are going right in the.
- 40:46Speaker 2: The version of Wisconsin we're gonna see now it might look a little rough first couple weeks.
- 40:50Speaker 2: You know new season, no preseason, college football.
- 40:52Speaker 2: We'll transition all the new places important Wisconsin is going to be in the, especially the Big Ten.
- 40:58Speaker 2: West Wisconsin is going to look unlike this year, unlike any Wisconsin team We've ever seen before.
- 41:04Speaker 2: So I'm really excited to see what that looks like.
- 41:06Speaker 2: And obviously I think fickle is just a stud coach.
- 41:09Speaker 2: I've already talked about anything else you want to say about fickle.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Well, not fickle.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Specifically, just looking over Wisconsin and what they the road they have ahead of them, open the preseason ranks in the top 25.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you know they're probably undefeated until like mid-season, so we're gonna find out what they're made of late in the year.
- 41:28Speaker 1: But they've got a favorable schedule and we're gonna be seeing a lot of them, so should be fun.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Yep, I would talk about Hugh freeze.
- 41:35Speaker 2: I'm gonna skip that.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Jeff Braum at Louisville love that big reason here.
- 41:40Speaker 2: I think Scott Siderfield just did a terrible job.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Louisville is like quietly like, maybe like the third or may possibly the third, maybe fourth or fifth best team in the ACC Obviously Clemson, florida State of the powerhouses they're gonna be pretty darn good against a.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Jeff Braum is stepping into situation.
- 41:54Speaker 2: It's already pretty Amenable and he's a good coach.
- 41:57Speaker 2: You and I were bullish on him at Purdue.
- 41:59Speaker 2: He turned a no-connel into a hell quarterback he's.
- 42:02Speaker 2: He's a fun them at Purdue.
- 42:04Speaker 2: You don't have a lot to work with.
- 42:05Speaker 2: And for Jeff Braum, this is a job he's wanted for a really long time, so I think he is going to.
- 42:11Speaker 2: I think Louisville is going to take a leap forward.
- 42:14Speaker 2: If I'm a Louisville, if I'm a Louisville Cardinal fan, I'm feeling really, really good about Jeff Braum.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I love to see it too, because you know you've got.
- 42:23Speaker 1: It seems like every time you turn around the SEC is adding top tier coaches.
- 42:28Speaker 1: You know plucking your Brian Kelly's and you know some people might argue with me about Hugh freeze, but like that's a big time higher.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Um might be a scumbag.
- 42:38Speaker 2: He's also really good football coach.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:41Speaker 1: So I like to see you know, mack Brown being plugged in at UNC.
- 42:45Speaker 1: I like this hire for Louisville.
- 42:48Speaker 1: I think that it's good for the conference and I want to see more parody in the ACC.
- 42:53Speaker 1: We've had some really really fun years in the ACC and I'm looking forward to to more parody there and more Kind of battle for that, that top spot.
- 43:02Speaker 1: I do think Mario Cristobal Needs to continue to step up his game in Miami.
- 43:06Speaker 1: I thought that was a really good hire.
- 43:08Speaker 1: They're gonna.
- 43:08Speaker 1: They're continuing to struggle, yeah, you're sure.
- 43:11Speaker 1: But you know, florida State looks like they're knocking on the door this year.
- 43:14Speaker 2: So, like Norval, here for you know, or Val, some of these guys, who takes a couple years.
- 43:18Speaker 2: I mean, it's not, we're talking.
- 43:19Speaker 2: We're saying we think these guys are going to exceed expectations right away, which is not to say if they don't, they're trash.
- 43:27Speaker 2: We're just saying fickle rule, brahm, these guys are gonna hit the ground running in a way, a lot depends on the situation they're stepping into.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Absolutely yeah, and we're just saying these guys hit the ground.
- 43:36Speaker 2: This there's.
- 43:38Speaker 2: There will be a lot of good coaching hires that might not make itself evident until year two, year three, just give the situation.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Situations therein, um, I think it's all the coaches I want to talk about.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Trent Dilfer at UAB, that's just really funny to me.
- 43:51Speaker 2: I'm interested in that.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Jamie Chadwell at Liberty.
- 43:54Speaker 2: He went from Coastal Carolina to Liberty.
- 43:57Speaker 2: It's got to be the most lateral, a most lateral of all.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Just, I mean, honestly, chadwell was like he was next in line for that Power five job.
- 44:05Speaker 1: So he was on a lot of lists.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:08Speaker 2: So obviously I'm Liberty, I'm sure gave him a pay raise.
- 44:10Speaker 2: If I'm Liberty fan, I'm a flames fan.
- 44:12Speaker 2: I'm like, yes, we got, we lost freeze, we got him.
- 44:14Speaker 2: You're feeling good about that, but why he took that job?
- 44:17Speaker 1: That's the big question mark, because he he really could have had, you know I mean, who knows what happened behind the scenes if he interviewed for some roles, whether he turned down some roles, whether they turned him down, but it did feel like, you know, he didn't have to necessarily jump if you wanted to, so maybe he got a really good deal.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I think if he probably would have stayed at Coastal and had them Clicking for another year, he would have been right up there again for for those top, you know, p5 spots.
- 44:43Speaker 1: So at least, it'll be an interesting to watch because he'll probably end up Somewhere at some point.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Maybe he's just a really bad interview.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Just has like terrible breath or something.
- 44:51Speaker 2: He's like goes in there and just like stinks and he's like a bad Halitosis.
- 44:53Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe he wore a tuxedo.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Just maybe he says maybe maybe made some like terrible jokes.
- 44:59Speaker 1: I got open, like open with a liner, just so I can pan, pan or pan didn't work, so that's kind of weird, but it's interesting to me.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Um anybody any other coaching hires you want to touch on?
- 45:09Speaker 1: Um, I don't want to keep talking about Dion, so we won't.
- 45:11Speaker 1: But yeah, obviously.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Keep your eyes on.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Boulder on prime.
- 45:19Speaker 1: If you would have said to me that a P5 program hired Dion Sanders, I Would have been like, really, why, who?
- 45:30Speaker 1: Who did it like?
- 45:31Speaker 1: But it sounds like there was a plan.
- 45:33Speaker 1: You know this wasn't just a hire, you know he, there was a plan that the administration and the program got full Sign-on, you know sign-off on, and they all were on the same page moving forward and it created a really good situation Because, you know, he had zero coaching experience really before he.
- 45:52Speaker 1: He took the role at Jackson State and even then he coached there a couple years and moved on.
- 45:57Speaker 1: So, yeah, I mean, it just seems like one of those situations where, well, we'll wait and see, but the people willing to take the risks and it makes it for an interesting Product.
- 46:08Speaker 2: It's gonna be good television.
- 46:10Speaker 2: I that much.
- 46:10Speaker 2: I feel really good about Cool.
- 46:13Speaker 2: I think that's all we got folks.
- 46:14Speaker 2: This is Mike Blitz.
- 46:15Speaker 2: It's been awesome.
- 46:16Speaker 2: We're gonna keep chugging along with offseason stuff.
- 46:18Speaker 2: We're gonna play some real football here in six days.
- 46:20Speaker 2: I think it's all I got Mike.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Anything else for good, you order?
- 46:23Speaker 1: It's all I got baby.
- 46:24Speaker 2: All right, man.
- 46:25Speaker 2: This is Mike Blitz, until next time.
- 46:26Speaker 2: See you later, peace.
- 46:31Speaker 1: Oh, oh.
