Transcript
- 0:00What is going on, everybody?
- 0:02I promise the theme song
- 0:04will be back next week.
- 0:06We need the hickory dickory
- 0:07dock to get us going.
- 0:09But I'm just consumed with
- 0:11other things right now.
- 0:13But it'll be back next week.
- 0:15But welcome to Sunday Night CrossFit Talk.
- 0:17As Kenneth DeLapp says,
- 0:18the original Sunday Night CrossFit Talk.
- 0:22And we're going to get into
- 0:23a lot of stuff tonight.
- 0:25Can't wait to talk to you about that.
- 0:27But
- 0:28Haven't seen you guys in a week.
- 0:30Has your week gone okay?
- 0:34Yeah.
- 0:35Getting back in the swing of things.
- 0:36How about you, Carolyn?
- 0:38Yeah, just back teaching,
- 0:40getting ready for the
- 0:42provincial math test for my grade nines.
- 0:45That's this Thursday and Friday,
- 0:47so a little stressed with
- 0:48that because we have high
- 0:50standards at our school,
- 0:51so got to keep meeting those.
- 0:54That's good.
- 0:54Yeah.
- 0:56Well, I've been sending these things out.
- 0:58I saw that.
- 1:00Another batch is ready to go tomorrow.
- 1:03So we're up about 50.
- 1:06Envelopes have gone out this
- 1:08week from all over the
- 1:10world or to all over the world,
- 1:11which has been really exciting.
- 1:13So super stoked about that.
- 1:15But if you want these, hop into my DMs,
- 1:18send me your address,
- 1:19and they're yours for free.
- 1:21F-R-E-E-E-E.
- 1:23So I've had some requests for flags.
- 1:27So you might have to
- 1:28consider getting some of those printed.
- 1:31Ooh.
- 1:31Flags.
- 1:33Okay.
- 1:35Yeah.
- 1:35I'll look into that.
- 1:38I will talk off air and do that.
- 1:40I still,
- 1:40we're still supposed to have a
- 1:41shirt soon.
- 1:42Uh, so I'm trying to figure that out too.
- 1:45Um, but with that,
- 1:48the other thing I've got
- 1:48going on before we meet again next week,
- 1:51I'm going to go to the U S
- 1:52Olympic trials in swimming, uh,
- 1:55this coming weekend.
- 1:56Is that the one that's on
- 1:57the football field that
- 1:58they're transforming that I saw online?
- 2:00It is.
- 2:00Wow.
- 2:01In Indianapolis,
- 2:03they converted the Colts
- 2:05football stadium into three
- 2:07swimming pools.
- 2:09That's insane.
- 2:11It is.
- 2:11Where do they drain it all after?
- 2:15I'm assuming a lot of tubing or hoses,
- 2:19but they did a time-lapse
- 2:20on Twitter that you can go
- 2:22see them build.
- 2:24Yeah, I think I saw that.
- 2:25It's insane.
- 2:27Because they build it,
- 2:29and then they build a deck
- 2:30up at the top of it,
- 2:31so it's all elevated.
- 2:34But there's the competition pool,
- 2:36a cool-down pool,
- 2:37and a warm-up pool all on
- 2:39the football field.
- 2:41That's crazy.
- 2:42Yeah.
- 2:43So my mom is the biggest
- 2:45Olympic nut in the world.
- 2:47And for her birthday and mother's day,
- 2:48that was her gift to take
- 2:51her to the U S Olympic trials.
- 2:52Um, and she's super stoked.
- 2:53So we're going over her next
- 2:54Saturday for the prelims in
- 2:56the morning and the finals
- 2:58in the evening.
- 2:59Um, and then back on Sunday.
- 3:01That's awesome.
- 3:04And what's cool is Julie and
- 3:05I just watched The Boys in
- 3:06the Boat tonight.
- 3:09Have you seen that movie?
- 3:11So it's George Clooney directed it.
- 3:13It's a true story of a crew
- 3:15team from Washington.
- 3:19It's on Prime.
- 3:20If you have Prime, it's on there for free.
- 3:24Check it out.
- 3:24It's well worth the watch.
- 3:26yeah I've seen it I just I
- 3:29haven't watched it yeah
- 3:30it's the night and it takes
- 3:32place into the 1936
- 3:33olympics okay so it's uh
- 3:36it's really good but with
- 3:39that we'll get back to crossfit talk um
- 3:43Wrapping up semifinals.
- 3:46It's been a week.
- 3:47We've had time to breathe.
- 3:49Some of us have had time to grieve.
- 3:54What are our final thoughts
- 3:55about what kind of went on
- 3:57those three weeks of semifinals?
- 4:05For the most part,
- 4:06I think they were exciting.
- 4:07There was...
- 4:09you know, close races and a lot of heat.
- 4:12That was fun.
- 4:13I mean, that's fun and exciting.
- 4:14You want stories like that.
- 4:17I don't,
- 4:18I didn't go back and watch really
- 4:20like much of any coverage,
- 4:22a little bit of Oceana's
- 4:24coverage and a little bit of West,
- 4:28but I like after being at
- 4:32East and seeing some of West online,
- 4:35I feel like,
- 4:36I feel like those stories weren't,
- 4:40And maybe it wasn't as
- 4:41closely contested in the
- 4:42heats as it was at East.
- 4:46But I didn't feel like that
- 4:47played out as well in West.
- 4:49And it could just be the, you know,
- 4:52camera work.
- 4:53We all have frustrations with that.
- 4:57Yeah,
- 4:58I think as much was on the line there,
- 5:02maybe the story just wasn't told as well.
- 5:05or when you're there live,
- 5:07you tell the story, right?
- 5:09You watch what you want to watch,
- 5:11not what they're showing you.
- 5:13So you can kind of see the
- 5:14whole floor and go to whatever.
- 5:15And we say that every year, like it,
- 5:18it's so much better live.
- 5:20Um, yeah, I, um, overall,
- 5:25like that last event was really cool.
- 5:28Like,
- 5:29I thought that was a really good
- 5:30ending to the workout, uh,
- 5:34Only because so much was on
- 5:36the line and decisions had
- 5:39to be made whether you are
- 5:41aggressive at the end or
- 5:43conservative at the end or
- 5:44however you're going to handle that.
- 5:46And some handled it way
- 5:48better than others.
- 5:50And it cost people trips to the games.
- 5:53Yeah.
- 5:54Yeah,
- 5:54a lot of drama for sure on the final
- 5:56event.
- 5:57I think overall,
- 5:59the semifinals went down pretty smoothly,
- 6:01like on all of the regions.
- 6:03A lot of vets made it back to the games.
- 6:05And I think there's some
- 6:07excitement around some of
- 6:08the new faces that we're
- 6:09going to be seeing in Texas.
- 6:12So I'm looking forward to
- 6:14seeing how they how they end up doing.
- 6:18yeah we're going to talk
- 6:19about the rookie class
- 6:21later in the show but 20 20
- 6:24rookies this year I mean
- 6:26there was a lot of open
- 6:27spots so somewhat to be
- 6:30expected but it is crazy
- 6:32eight men 12 women rookies
- 6:34this year going to the
- 6:35games uh so that's crazy
- 6:40The other thing,
- 6:40a couple of things I have in my notes,
- 6:43and we'll get into
- 6:44DataWad's analysis a little bit,
- 6:48is Barbell Spin did a blind
- 6:52leaderboard where they
- 6:53talked about the most
- 6:54exciting thing from the weekend.
- 6:57And everybody went to
- 6:58Colton's Touch and Go.
- 6:59Not Joe Piero's.
- 7:03What's that?
- 7:04Not Joe Piero's.
- 7:06Exactly.
- 7:07So when they said that it has to be Colton,
- 7:09Colton wasn't the only one
- 7:10that went touch and go.
- 7:12Hannah, or is it Hannah?
- 7:15Julia Hannaford.
- 7:16Yeah, that's it.
- 7:17She did it as well.
- 7:19He did it.
- 7:19I think it was more so like
- 7:22the moment because it was a
- 7:24tight race versus the
- 7:25actual touch and go.
- 7:28Because I think we did see it, what,
- 7:30three or four times over the three weeks?
- 7:32Mm-hmm.
- 7:33Some people didn't need to do it.
- 7:34I bet you cursed at her
- 7:36could have done it if she
- 7:37really wanted to.
- 7:39That's still the most
- 7:40impressive performance.
- 7:41That was my vote.
- 7:43Yeah.
- 7:44What Olivia did to that
- 7:45snatch ladder was freakish
- 7:49and should go down as like
- 7:51one of the most impressive
- 7:52things ever done.
- 7:55Did you see the training think tank video?
- 7:59They had one of their
- 7:59coaches do like the woman's ladder.
- 8:02and tried to beat Kerstetter's time.
- 8:05I think that he only beat it
- 8:07by like three or four
- 8:08seconds or something like that.
- 8:09Very, very close.
- 8:10And he had to go touch and
- 8:11go on the last bar.
- 8:12And the transitions were
- 8:13even tighter than what
- 8:15Olivia had to do just to
- 8:16show how dominant her performance was.
- 8:19That's crazy.
- 8:21She like,
- 8:21and I think they brought this up
- 8:23on the spin is that she had
- 8:26to practice changing weights.
- 8:28Like she had to do that so
- 8:30fast to be able to get that time.
- 8:33And then I talked to Hattie
- 8:35on Friday night and she said, when,
- 8:37when they got word of what her time was,
- 8:40like, they all were like, well,
- 8:41we're all fighting for a second.
- 8:44Like they were all just like, that's out,
- 8:46that's out of reach.
- 8:49so and that that's just
- 8:52craziness but um I think
- 8:55the lunges were a story I
- 8:57think um what the men's
- 9:00competition getting shaken
- 9:01up with ricky winning his
- 9:03first semi-final jay crouch
- 9:06not finishing top two and
- 9:08bailey martin kind of
- 9:09ruining jay's party I think
- 9:12that was pretty crazy down there um
- 9:15Similarly,
- 9:15Dallin did that to Roman in the East.
- 9:18True.
- 9:19And kind of, you know, we,
- 9:21a lot of people thought probably,
- 9:22you know,
- 9:23Jeff and Roman one and two in
- 9:26whatever order.
- 9:27And I mean,
- 9:27I'm sure some people expected
- 9:29maybe Dallin or Hopper to be in the mix,
- 9:31obviously,
- 9:32but at the end for Dallin to
- 9:35take the spot similar than
- 9:39Oceana with the three boys.
- 9:40Yeah.
- 9:42And then I'm going to,
- 9:43I'm going to admit something here.
- 9:44I was,
- 9:45I was putting up our document that
- 9:47we share for notes and I
- 9:48saw Carolyn typing and
- 9:50deleting and typing and deleting,
- 9:52and then she ended up deleting,
- 9:54but I liked it too much
- 9:55that I put it back in.
- 9:56And that is,
- 9:59and I phrased it a little bit different.
- 10:02And that is our Austin
- 10:04Hatfield and Jack Rosema
- 10:06enough to offset the
- 10:08feeling that this was
- 10:09slanted to the big boys.
- 10:13I would say no for me.
- 10:15Do you know my thought on this?
- 10:21We talked about this the other day.
- 10:22I just feel like the sport
- 10:24gradually over the last few years,
- 10:25if you look at where the women were,
- 10:28where the men were overall
- 10:30in terms of height and weight...
- 10:33The sport is shifting towards taller men,
- 10:36taller females,
- 10:37heavier as we're going more
- 10:39and more machines and power
- 10:41output and the weights are heavier.
- 10:44I think that over the weekend,
- 10:46I don't think on any of the workouts,
- 10:50gymnastics was really a
- 10:51limiting factor for most athletes.
- 10:54Um, and number one,
- 10:56it was the runner at your engine.
- 10:57Number two, I would argue is again,
- 11:00your engine.
- 11:00You could say toes to bars maybe,
- 11:02but I think overall all
- 11:04three kind of played a good factor.
- 11:05That was a well balanced event,
- 11:07but for most people it's
- 11:08just their breathing.
- 11:09Um, number three, same thing.
- 11:14Like the echo bike played a bigger factor.
- 11:15And I think the females
- 11:16being on the echo bike
- 11:17longer because the 10 cows
- 11:19you're able to recover for
- 11:20the legless rope climbs, um,
- 11:22Same with the,
- 11:23like it's enough time with
- 11:24the box jump overs that the
- 11:25legless was less of a factor.
- 11:27I think that for that one, the rowing,
- 11:31we talked about that last
- 11:32week being a big factor there.
- 11:35Unless you had really,
- 11:35really fast handstand walk
- 11:37as a shorter person,
- 11:38you could stay in the mix more,
- 11:40but it was more of a power
- 11:42output rowing capacity.
- 11:44Let me get this right.
- 11:45Was that a rowing workout?
- 11:47Yeah.
- 11:50And you have to snatch with the weight.
- 11:52And again,
- 11:53those lunges playing a big
- 11:55factor with if you can get
- 11:56a head start on the echo bike,
- 11:58it did play a role.
- 11:59Because most people were one
- 12:02or two sets on the ring muscle ups,
- 12:04but you could you could gain some stuff.
- 12:06So I just think the sport in general,
- 12:09like we used to be rare to
- 12:10see guys over 200 pounds, six foot tall.
- 12:12And now you're seeing that quite a bit.
- 12:15And even I think the height
- 12:17of the females and the
- 12:18weight of the females is
- 12:19shifting higher towards the
- 12:20155 to maybe 160 pounds now.
- 12:23Like on an average scale,
- 12:24maybe even heavier than that,
- 12:26155 to 165 maybe on average.
- 12:29And it used to be closer to like 145.
- 12:33And I think the taller you are,
- 12:34the better you will also be
- 12:35on machines in general.
- 12:38Yep.
- 12:40Yeah, if you look at Tia, Laura, Gabby,
- 12:44Alex, they are all taller athletes.
- 12:51I mean,
- 12:51I think Tia still is the older
- 12:55model mold.
- 12:57Yeah,
- 12:57she's more of an exception to the rule.
- 13:02She's just so good overall.
- 13:04She just stands tall in your
- 13:06head because she's just so dominant.
- 13:10Um, yeah, I guess.
- 13:14So, um, that was one question I had.
- 13:16And then this got posted
- 13:18this weekend and I don't
- 13:20know how to feel about it.
- 13:21So that's what I'm posing it
- 13:21to you guys is CrossFit
- 13:23made a post saying is Paige.
- 13:26The men's are the most underrated athlete.
- 13:32I mean,
- 13:33I don't think she gets a whole lot
- 13:34of coverage.
- 13:35Um,
- 13:41think if you're like into
- 13:43the sport like we are like
- 13:45she's never forgotten when
- 13:47we talk about the sport but
- 13:49on the on the whole I do
- 13:51see that but I think it's
- 13:52everybody sixth and below I
- 13:55agree because and crossfit
- 13:59made it that way yeah yeah
- 14:02anyone that's not in those
- 14:03top those top that top tier
- 14:07They don't really talk about,
- 14:09they don't really film during events.
- 14:11And she's just so consistent
- 14:14year after year,
- 14:14no matter the programming,
- 14:16like she's always relevant and,
- 14:19and solid.
- 14:21And she seems to be getting
- 14:22better the last couple of
- 14:23years as she's kind of
- 14:25maybe getting older,
- 14:26maybe being smarter with her body too.
- 14:28And just using that experience for her.
- 14:34Andrew Sten says most people
- 14:36don't know who 90% of the athletes are.
- 14:42Larry Young says,
- 14:43I personally think not
- 14:44having a max or high level
- 14:45gymnastics before
- 14:47semifinals hurt people like
- 14:48Colton and Olivia,
- 14:50because everyone who made
- 14:51it were really fit cardio wise.
- 14:55They have to be strong too, though.
- 14:59I think it was still a good balance.
- 15:01Every event, you had to be strong,
- 15:04but you had to have some
- 15:05level of gymnastics capacity.
- 15:07You had to be able to run,
- 15:08but you still had to be
- 15:09able to lift a certain amount of weight.
- 15:12It was still balanced,
- 15:14but I just think it moves a
- 15:16little bit more towards certain stuff.
- 15:21Yeah, yeah.
- 15:24but page is never underrated in our book.
- 15:26And it was funny.
- 15:27I actually, uh,
- 15:29ended up texting Patrick
- 15:31and Brian last night
- 15:32because I was listening to
- 15:33their semifinal recap and they said,
- 15:36nobody interviewed page
- 15:38before semifinals.
- 15:40And I was like, excuse me.
- 15:44And then they,
- 15:45they apologized and said
- 15:46that they would make a correction.
- 15:47I said, I don't need all that.
- 15:48I just was giving you a hard time.
- 15:50But, um,
- 15:52But yeah, we did interview Paige.
- 15:55But she's not someone that
- 15:56posts every single day like
- 15:58some of the other people.
- 16:00She's more to herself,
- 16:02training and under the radar, really.
- 16:07And that's just who she is.
- 16:09She's not flashy.
- 16:10She's not trying to be
- 16:11someone that she's...
- 16:13you know,
- 16:13not like just to get the
- 16:15followers and stuff like that.
- 16:17Like you see a lot of
- 16:18athletes just posting stuff
- 16:20and sometimes you're like, Oh, well,
- 16:22okay.
- 16:25This isn't in the notes,
- 16:26but you brought that up.
- 16:28Have you noticed that Tudor
- 16:30is posting way more than he ever has?
- 16:34And it's all running.
- 16:35Okay.
- 16:37Okay.
- 16:40Yeah, I've seen more posts lately.
- 16:42I guess I didn't necessarily
- 16:44notice about the running.
- 16:50But that's good.
- 16:52He's got to embrace it.
- 16:53I mean,
- 16:53all of his counterparts are all over.
- 16:58Yeah.
- 17:01Damien says, like,
- 17:02nobody knew about Kenya.
- 17:04That is so true.
- 17:06Okay, Larry,
- 17:07I'm trying to figure this out.
- 17:09If Big Braun was the
- 17:10Colton... If Big Braun...
- 17:14Colton moves up and the new
- 17:15guy that beat him openly
- 17:17says he isn't strong.
- 17:22I'm confused.
- 17:23Who's the new guy that beat him?
- 17:26In the West?
- 17:29Chris Ibarra.
- 17:30Ibarra?
- 17:31That was the only rookie in the West,
- 17:33right?
- 17:34Yeah.
- 17:37If Big Braun was there...
- 17:40Colton moves up.
- 17:45And the new guy that beat him.
- 17:50We'll go to Andrew Sten.
- 17:51And that fault falls on
- 17:54CrossFit for not having a
- 17:55media department who highlights athletes.
- 17:57Unfortunately,
- 17:58not enough people watch this
- 18:00channel to see the other
- 18:01athletes covered.
- 18:03We're getting there.
- 18:04We're getting there.
- 18:05We're growing.
- 18:05Got to like and subscribe.
- 18:07You got to keep telling the people, Scott,
- 18:09like and subscribe.
- 18:11That's why I brought you on here,
- 18:12just to tell me.
- 18:14Just tell the people, like and subscribe.
- 18:17If you haven't already,
- 18:20like and subscribe.
- 18:22Larry, we know.
- 18:23You only get so many
- 18:24characters in this new age world,
- 18:28and it's hard to condense
- 18:30them down into the comment section.
- 18:31It's like Twitter.
- 18:32Twitter.
- 18:36So the last thing I want to
- 18:37talk about is DataWad put together,
- 18:40because I think really
- 18:42probably the major story of
- 18:45semifinals was the allocation of spots.
- 18:47Yeah.
- 18:48Right?
- 18:50And a lot of us don't
- 18:51believe that that is done
- 18:53in an equitable way.
- 18:55So she put together a
- 18:56combined leaderboard.
- 18:58Now let's stay up front.
- 19:00We know that it probably wouldn't have...
- 19:04broke down this way if they
- 19:05were all competing head to
- 19:06head because you don't have
- 19:07the races right you you may
- 19:10have pushed harder here or
- 19:11not here depending on who
- 19:13you were up against but in
- 19:17in the men's side it
- 19:18doesn't shake up too much
- 19:20and she actually did it
- 19:21with the run and without
- 19:23the run because the runs
- 19:26were different from place to place
- 19:29This first one,
- 19:30is it only comparing
- 19:33athletes that qualified or
- 19:34is this with everyone in the field?
- 19:36Because I think she did two of them.
- 19:39I think this is all of them.
- 19:41Yeah, I thought it was all of them.
- 19:44Yeah, this one is the most recent one.
- 19:49And so...
- 19:51Their original rank is over here.
- 19:52Here's the combined rank.
- 19:54And you see that like Europe, Oceania,
- 19:57North America,
- 19:58East are getting people in.
- 20:00And then Guy is kind of the
- 20:01outlier with South America.
- 20:05Which is great to see him up there.
- 20:07It is.
- 20:08What a great bounce back for
- 20:09year for him so far.
- 20:10And it doesn't change with
- 20:11or without the run.
- 20:12Yeah, that's great.
- 20:17Well, we can get into that later, but, um,
- 20:19and so we go,
- 20:20we keep going and then South
- 20:22America actually has two
- 20:24more representatives in the top 20.
- 20:28Well, I would, I would use the,
- 20:32without the run category.
- 20:34Okay.
- 20:34Yes.
- 20:37Um, so, but still qualifying spot top 40.
- 20:40Yeah.
- 20:45um and then we go here
- 20:48nobody is out at this point
- 20:51on these uh still pretty
- 20:53much north america europe
- 20:55and oceania and then here
- 21:01we would have with the run
- 21:05oldest would have been in
- 21:06yonakoski would have been
- 21:07in without the run yona
- 21:09would have been in
- 21:11Um, oldest out without the run,
- 21:14Brandon Luckett just makes it in.
- 21:18We know he's a great runner.
- 21:20So taking out the run is a huge,
- 21:22like he would do well in any field.
- 21:25So it's hard to say that he
- 21:26would bump out to 52.
- 21:27Cause now you're just going
- 21:28to find the fence,
- 21:28but I get what you're saying.
- 21:29I think this is the interesting part.
- 21:32These three people from
- 21:33North America East.
- 21:35Taylor Self, Dre Strom,
- 21:37and Tyler Christoffel would
- 21:39have been in with the run.
- 21:41Taylor and Dre would have
- 21:42been in without the run.
- 21:46Yep.
- 21:49So North America East would have had 15.
- 21:51It's hard.
- 21:51The only other thing that's hard is, um,
- 21:54comparing weeks one when they only had,
- 21:56you know,
- 21:57certain amount of time to
- 21:57prepare versus a week three,
- 21:59like North America East, which then keeps,
- 22:02can see the results.
- 22:03And obviously the scores
- 22:04typically get better as you
- 22:06go through the week.
- 22:07So there's all,
- 22:08there's also that factor
- 22:10that's hard to compare
- 22:11between semifinals.
- 22:13Um,
- 22:15But it's still a good
- 22:16indicator that we could have more spots.
- 22:20And just to confirm this,
- 22:22all 267 men and 271 women.
- 22:28So then we go to the women.
- 22:31And what I find fascinating is,
- 22:33even though they were the first week,
- 22:35Laura and Gabby are second and third.
- 22:39But not surprising.
- 22:40You look at the top three...
- 22:45you're like, yeah,
- 22:45that could be the podium at the Games.
- 22:48Really,
- 22:48you can look down further than that,
- 22:51and that order wouldn't be surprising.
- 22:53Yeah.
- 22:55I think what was surprising
- 22:57to me is nobody from the
- 22:58West on the first page.
- 23:01Because we thought it was top-heavy,
- 23:04but we didn't even get this
- 23:05in the combined ratings.
- 23:09Europe is a dead even split
- 23:11with North America East.
- 23:14Now, without the run,
- 23:16Linda Kiesman falls out,
- 23:19and Shelby Neal pops in.
- 23:23So that changes up a little bit.
- 23:29But it's not until we get to
- 23:3317th with the run or around
- 23:35that without the run, 13th,
- 23:38is Abby Domet.
- 23:39Very interesting.
- 23:43Very interesting.
- 23:45Yeah,
- 23:45because the West Run is by far the
- 23:47longest,
- 23:48and they have the stairs and everything.
- 23:49So that one is really hard
- 23:51to compare because their
- 23:52original scores would be much slower.
- 23:58And when we go to the third page,
- 24:01we finally see Oceana.
- 24:05And a couple more from the West.
- 24:07Kazan and Kenyo.
- 24:11Okay.
- 24:14Some more from Emily
- 24:16Lundberg jumps way up and in.
- 24:19She was, and she was out.
- 24:22She was the first person out for Europe.
- 24:2411th.
- 24:25Anika Greer.
- 24:26Look at the difference it makes combined.
- 24:28Yeah.
- 24:30That's not surprising though.
- 24:34Amanda Barnhart gets in either way.
- 24:39I think we have 17 or something from the,
- 24:41from the East, which is crazy.
- 24:45And it's not until the last
- 24:47page do we get some Asia,
- 24:49which we didn't get any on the men.
- 24:51None from Asia,
- 24:52none from Africa on the men's side.
- 24:55But Sahir Kaya and Shung
- 24:58Young Choi are good athletes.
- 24:59They're great athletes.
- 25:00Yeah, they're legit.
- 25:03They're great.
- 25:05But Jordan Sheffs would make it combined.
- 25:07Ashley Wozni, Fee Sagafi,
- 25:10Elizabeth Weishart.
- 25:16it that's insane to me a lot
- 25:19of yeast so uh no juan
- 25:28young no kenneth no juan
- 25:31young um so I think I think
- 25:39this does point out that
- 25:40there's some fallacy with
- 25:42the allocations of spots
- 25:46do you think there's an
- 25:47immediate solution do we
- 25:53want to listen to the
- 25:54castro piece you could yeah
- 26:00I i yeah I've got comments
- 26:02on this did you listen to it yeah
- 26:05So I have it started at the
- 26:07357 mark of Patrick Clark's
- 26:10interview with Dave Castro
- 26:12backstage at the Syndicate Crown.
- 26:15This was on Be Friendly Fitness.
- 26:17I want to give credit to them for this.
- 26:22But here it is.
- 26:23And we'll go ahead and play that.
- 26:29One last question.
- 26:31The future of the semifinal.
- 26:34Is that stage still,
- 26:35obviously you mentioned
- 26:36something about tweaking.
- 26:37You can put it full screen.
- 26:38Every year we're tweaking something,
- 26:39improving it.
- 26:40Is the semifinal something
- 26:41that you would like to keep around?
- 26:43And if so, if not,
- 26:45what would you like to see
- 26:46in place of semifinal?
- 26:52I have ideas.
- 26:55We have big ideas on how it
- 26:57can evolve to a different model.
- 27:00Are we ready for that now?
- 27:01Potentially not.
- 27:03Maybe.
- 27:03I think this model here
- 27:08There's an evolution of it
- 27:09that's necessary if we're
- 27:12if we're to stay with the
- 27:13semi final and do semi final again.
- 27:17I think we're operating a
- 27:18model that is at the 60
- 27:21yard line and not at the 99
- 27:22yard line with this format.
- 27:26And again,
- 27:26it's some of the stuff I
- 27:27mentioned in the beginning,
- 27:27like I don't think
- 27:29two events in North America
- 27:31is the right expression of this.
- 27:33But it's where we kind of
- 27:34are and how we've evolved
- 27:36to this from being on our
- 27:38heels often in the last few
- 27:40years and trying to climb out of that.
- 27:42So there's also radical
- 27:44expressions of what next
- 27:45year looks like that are
- 27:47potential areas we might
- 27:52take that look nothing like this.
- 27:55The actual decision yet has not been,
- 27:58it's not final,
- 27:59but there could be an
- 28:01expression where it's like
- 28:01this with some tweaks or
- 28:03where it's a little
- 28:03different or a lot different.
- 28:06Yeah.
- 28:06Cool.
- 28:07I like that.
- 28:07All right.
- 28:08Cool.
- 28:08Appreciate it.
- 28:09Yeah.
- 28:09Thanks.
- 28:09Thanks a lot.
- 28:13So thank you to Be Friendly
- 28:14Fitness for that video.
- 28:16And nice job, Patrick,
- 28:18getting that interview
- 28:19backstage at Syndicate Crown.
- 28:22Original thoughts on that.
- 28:23I have a lot of thoughts.
- 28:26So, uh, but I want to hear yours first.
- 28:30So a little bit earlier in
- 28:32that video and I find it,
- 28:33I'm wondering what,
- 28:34at what point of syndicate crown,
- 28:36this was, um, done.
- 28:39So there's Saturday.
- 28:41Okay.
- 28:45Yeah.
- 28:48Okay.
- 28:49So we didn't get to see all the,
- 28:51like all the heats, all the drama,
- 28:54all the, he comments in there that.
- 28:58there's too many people
- 29:00qualifying and kind of like
- 29:04the games kind of,
- 29:05we've had this discussion,
- 29:06like the fourth heat
- 29:07doesn't matter and people
- 29:08don't want to watch it.
- 29:09And I,
- 29:10and while I'll say that's true at
- 29:12almost every single region,
- 29:14that was not the case for
- 29:16North America East at all.
- 29:19Every heat was relevant.
- 29:22There was like,
- 29:25So I get what he's saying.
- 29:27And if you could have if you
- 29:29could have only had like 10,
- 29:3112 representatives from
- 29:32West and if you had five
- 29:34regions still in the US and
- 29:35you only took like 20 and
- 29:38then East was actually split up properly.
- 29:40Yeah, it would probably be more exciting.
- 29:48Carolyn.
- 29:51he just was like smirking the whole time.
- 29:53Like the whole thing is
- 29:54going to flip around next
- 29:55year or the following year.
- 29:56Like he knows,
- 29:57like he obviously knows what's going on,
- 29:58but he can't say it just felt like he's,
- 30:02um,
- 30:04talking like something big
- 30:05is going to happen and
- 30:06they're talking about it.
- 30:07And obviously he doesn't
- 30:08like the format right now.
- 30:10He went to the West.
- 30:12He probably saw the same thing,
- 30:13like almost the whole final
- 30:14heat qualifies and doesn't
- 30:16quite like that.
- 30:17But it's just hard because, I mean,
- 30:19a lot of people are living
- 30:21in similar regions.
- 30:22Like back then you didn't
- 30:23have training camps anymore.
- 30:25that kind of influenced the
- 30:26regions as much as they would now.
- 30:27So it would just be very
- 30:29hard to do regionals, I guess,
- 30:32because there are so many
- 30:33people within the same area.
- 30:35So if you start going five
- 30:38per like different parts of the East,
- 30:41like it's just crazy.
- 30:45I don't know.
- 30:45I also feel like they don't
- 30:47want to take responsibility
- 30:48for the semifinals.
- 30:50So doing like sanctionals again,
- 30:54maybe under a like umbrella of CrossFit,
- 30:58that's a little bit more
- 30:59controlled from before
- 31:01might be something that
- 31:01they're looking into where
- 31:04you just have different
- 31:05competitions all around the
- 31:06world where two or three qualify at each.
- 31:10I could see something like
- 31:11that coming back around,
- 31:12like a hybrid model of the
- 31:14sanctional season with regionals-ish.
- 31:18I don't know.
- 31:19That's my thought.
- 31:22So here I have a couple thoughts.
- 31:24One,
- 31:24I don't think it's good business to
- 31:29admit failure in the middle
- 31:31of the stage you're talking about.
- 31:36I think it's better to say, you know,
- 31:38we can always improve.
- 31:40We'll always look at this at
- 31:41the end of the season,
- 31:42and then we'll go from there.
- 31:43Because now everybody's
- 31:45talking about what's it
- 31:46going to be instead of who
- 31:48these athletes are that are
- 31:49going to the CrossFit Games.
- 31:52We've now removed the
- 31:54spotlight from all the
- 31:55phenomenal athletes that
- 31:56have earned a great
- 31:58accomplishment of making
- 32:00the games and turned it
- 32:01back on the failures of CrossFit.
- 32:04Because you, the head of all this,
- 32:07are saying we're failing at
- 32:09this stage and we need to make a change.
- 32:12While it's going on 30 feet
- 32:15from where you're saying it.
- 32:18Yes,
- 32:19but I think a lot of people are saying
- 32:21it's failing.
- 32:21Like,
- 32:22there's a lot of people not very
- 32:26happy with the allocation of spots.
- 32:29I get all that.
- 32:30It's just bad timing.
- 32:32Like,
- 32:33the spotlight should be on the athletes.
- 32:35If people want to talk about that,
- 32:36that's great.
- 32:37But you, the head of this company,
- 32:39should not be the one leading the charge.
- 32:42What is he going to do,
- 32:43praise the Africa and Asia athletes?
- 32:50You don't have to do the
- 32:52polar opposite to not do the one.
- 32:56Sure.
- 32:57Right?
- 32:58And there's a time where
- 33:00this discussion needs to be had.
- 33:03And they can talk internally
- 33:05and get this together
- 33:08behind closed doors right
- 33:09now and announce it after
- 33:11the celebration.
- 33:13Or even like a month before
- 33:14the games that next season
- 33:15is going to be different.
- 33:20But I want to move on from that and say,
- 33:22the problem is that there
- 33:23is no easy solution to the
- 33:25CrossFit's in a very big
- 33:26bind because you can add
- 33:30more regionals or
- 33:32semifinals to the United States.
- 33:34So that's right out.
- 33:36The drama is always going to
- 33:37be at the cut line at semifinals,
- 33:39whether you're allocating five games,
- 33:4110 to the games or 20 to the games,
- 33:45it's always going to be at the cut line,
- 33:47not at who's winning.
- 33:49So that's inherent with this
- 33:51stage of the game.
- 33:54The next thing is you can
- 33:56move them all over the country,
- 33:58but it's not evenly
- 34:00distributed geographically
- 34:01in the United States where
- 34:02all the talent is.
- 34:04There's so many camps in the
- 34:05East that the East is just loaded.
- 34:11And if you have,
- 34:13like they did a couple years ago,
- 34:15four of them in North
- 34:16America and distribute them evenly,
- 34:18you've taken away the
- 34:19regional aspect again
- 34:20because you're moving
- 34:21people away from where they live.
- 34:26My biggest fear is they're
- 34:27going to go online.
- 34:28And if they go online,
- 34:30it's going to break my heart.
- 34:33It's going to destroy the
- 34:35coolest thing in CrossFit.
- 34:37And we've been pounding the
- 34:38desk that you need to go to
- 34:40semifinals because it is
- 34:42the coolest time to watch the sport.
- 34:45And I had listeners come up
- 34:46to me at the Syndicate Crown saying,
- 34:48thank you for telling me that.
- 34:50This was the most fun I've
- 34:51ever had at a CrossFit competition.
- 34:54And we have decided we're
- 34:55going to do this instead of the games.
- 34:59CrossFit should market this
- 35:01phase better than they do.
- 35:06I don't think they want to go online.
- 35:08I don't think they want to
- 35:08deal with all of the video
- 35:11stuff and the responsibility there.
- 35:14I don't think they wouldn't.
- 35:15But how are they going to
- 35:16economically do anything else?
- 35:21Yeah, without putting on other people.
- 35:23Yeah, I mean,
- 35:24the thing with the sanctionals and stuff,
- 35:26it's like it just becomes
- 35:27who has the most money,
- 35:28who has the most time off
- 35:29to go travel to all these places.
- 35:32Because I know like for me
- 35:33having a full-time job,
- 35:34I can't go overseas and
- 35:36just take a week of vacation,
- 35:37two weeks of vacation to –
- 35:40to go do that while someone
- 35:42could go and do every single one of them.
- 35:46Um, some sort of point system,
- 35:48maybe a new ranking system,
- 35:49but then again,
- 35:50we're just changing the
- 35:51ranking systems left and right.
- 35:52And we have,
- 35:54we haven't kept anything consistent.
- 35:56It's just hard to know
- 35:57because things just are always changing.
- 36:00Um, who knows?
- 36:05I hope to God they don't go online.
- 36:07It's just a fear I have because that's,
- 36:10that seems to be the answer
- 36:11for everybody else, but the elites, um,
- 36:15and they're crying,
- 36:16they don't have money.
- 36:17And so it's the cheapest way to do things.
- 36:24Yeah.
- 36:25I, in a way I think done correctly, it,
- 36:29it could be the right move.
- 36:33Um,
- 36:35but it'll never be done correctly.
- 36:37So I hate it.
- 36:38But I think,
- 36:38I think it could be done well.
- 36:41And I think it could,
- 36:42I think it could get the
- 36:43right people there.
- 36:44It wouldn't come down to a,
- 36:46it would come down to you
- 36:47move as well as you think
- 36:48you need to move.
- 36:49And we're going to make your
- 36:51video public and we're
- 36:51going to figure it out.
- 36:52Like, did you move well?
- 36:54It's not going to be a
- 36:54judge's call ruining
- 36:56someone's chance on the floor.
- 36:58We would eliminate that kind of stuff,
- 37:01but it'll never be done correctly.
- 37:02So yeah.
- 37:04It's a moot point.
- 37:06If you look at every avenue
- 37:08possible that I can think of,
- 37:10there's something wrong
- 37:12with that thought process.
- 37:15You're spreading out to four again,
- 37:18but you still have to
- 37:19spread out the talent.
- 37:21So then you lose the
- 37:22regional aspect that way.
- 37:26I'm almost on the bandwagon
- 37:28of keep it as it is, allocate better,
- 37:32and...
- 37:34And really embrace this and
- 37:36market it better.
- 37:42Would you do the one spot
- 37:43per region minimum and then allocate?
- 37:46Or would you just put, for right now,
- 37:49Africa with another region
- 37:51and it's just like travel?
- 37:54Combine Africa with...
- 37:56I've said all along that the
- 37:57way to get global expansion
- 37:59is not the Olympic model.
- 38:02CrossFit is not big enough
- 38:03to go to the Olympic model yet.
- 38:05And that's what they're trying to do.
- 38:09I think I think this is like
- 38:11the last chance qualifier
- 38:12is a good model.
- 38:14And that's how and those
- 38:16people need to get good
- 38:17enough to show up there and
- 38:20earn a spot that way.
- 38:28at the end of the day I
- 38:29would rather have what we
- 38:30have today than some
- 38:32bastardization of what it
- 38:34could be that's going to
- 38:35fall short anyway I would
- 38:37rather stick with the same
- 38:38thing market it better
- 38:41refine it better so that
- 38:42it's not as bad and hone
- 38:46that in than to take
- 38:48another shot at something
- 38:49wild in the dark that is
- 38:51going to take two years to
- 38:52figure out and then they'll
- 38:54scrap that and go to something else
- 38:58The thing is a lot of these
- 38:59regions like Asia, South America,
- 39:02the ones that got more spots this year,
- 39:05they're probably getting
- 39:05more spots next year
- 39:06because they have new
- 39:07athletes that are going to
- 39:08make it to the games that
- 39:09have just gone points at
- 39:11the games for their region.
- 39:13And then if you add any previous people,
- 39:16you're going to get four
- 39:17people from Asia next year.
- 39:18You're going to get four
- 39:19people from South America.
- 39:20And slowly,
- 39:21as people are accumulating more points...
- 39:24It's just going to keep
- 39:24taking out from Europe, North America,
- 39:27Northwest, and the bigger, I guess.
- 39:32And at the end of the day,
- 39:33you watch sports because
- 39:35someone's going to win and
- 39:36someone's going to lose.
- 39:38And it sucks to be the
- 39:39athlete that loses and loses out.
- 39:42But that's why you watch.
- 39:44You watch for that drama.
- 39:46And if we open it up too wide,
- 39:50because I'm just looking at the chat too,
- 39:52I think 40 is plenty.
- 39:54I don't think that South
- 39:56America needed three women.
- 39:57I don't think Asia needed three men.
- 40:00Those are obvious places
- 40:03where the allocation was wrong.
- 40:06Yep.
- 40:07And it's going to be four next year.
- 40:09I'm telling you.
- 40:10They're going to get more points.
- 40:13It's going to be four next year.
- 40:15Everyone is going to go down.
- 40:18I don't know.
- 40:20I can't see them looking at that and not,
- 40:24especially if those people
- 40:26are all in the bottom 30.
- 40:29But that's the way the system's created.
- 40:32This is how South America or
- 40:36Asia got three spots this
- 40:37year was Choi came back.
- 40:40So people got points last
- 40:41year for being at the games.
- 40:43And then she comes back and
- 40:45they got points.
- 40:45Now you have someone else, Duan Zhang,
- 40:48will get points, new points for Asia.
- 40:51And then you start adding more.
- 40:53Like it's... Right.
- 40:55One of the things they need
- 40:56to hone is that model.
- 40:58That model is strapped and then new...
- 41:02The more that athletes are
- 41:04different in regions,
- 41:05like the more rookies in a region,
- 41:07the more they're gaining
- 41:08points for the region.
- 41:09The more that the region
- 41:10stays with the bets,
- 41:12the harder it is for the
- 41:14region to keep getting
- 41:15points because everyone
- 41:16else is not getting extra
- 41:17points for the region.
- 41:19So North America East
- 41:22doesn't have many rookies.
- 41:23North America West doesn't
- 41:24have many rookies.
- 41:25That's bad.
- 41:26That's bad for the point system.
- 41:28That's how it's made.
- 41:29Europe getting rookies in
- 41:31this year is actually good for them.
- 41:33They got more rookies this year,
- 41:34like four or something on one side.
- 41:37That's actually going to
- 41:38help their point system.
- 41:42Because people in the year
- 41:43prior had their games points,
- 41:45new people are getting games points,
- 41:47and now they're getting
- 41:48more people within the top 100.
- 41:50If we keep getting only the
- 41:52vets in for the North America,
- 41:53it's actually worse for us.
- 41:56We're going to keep losing
- 41:57and losing spots.
- 41:58I know you're right.
- 42:00And I know that everything
- 42:01you're saying is absolutely correct.
- 42:03I think they need to scrap
- 42:04that model for allocation of spots.
- 42:09And use more common sense.
- 42:12I know that is really hard to do,
- 42:17but common sense.
- 42:20When we do a combined
- 42:21leaderboard and there's no
- 42:23man from Asia close to the
- 42:26top 40 and they get two or three spots,
- 42:29two, that's ridiculous.
- 42:31Yes.
- 42:36I mean,
- 42:37the evidence is looking at the
- 42:39scores of these people and
- 42:40do they have the capacity
- 42:41and the ability to compete?
- 42:44Because what you're doing by
- 42:46this allocation is watering
- 42:48down the final product at the games.
- 42:53And then heat one doesn't matter.
- 42:56Because heat one is never
- 42:57going to be a factor in the
- 42:59rest of the scores.
- 43:03Because they're never going to,
- 43:04like in the East,
- 43:06there were top five people
- 43:08from heat one in almost
- 43:11every workout through the final day.
- 43:15Because it's so deep.
- 43:16And we lose that.
- 43:18It's better at the, that's what sucks.
- 43:20It's better at the semifinal
- 43:22than it is at the games.
- 43:23Because by the time you get to the games,
- 43:25the bottom 10 aren't going to compete.
- 43:28I shouldn't say bottom 10.
- 43:29Bottom seven aren't going to compete.
- 43:38So Seema says I need to clip
- 43:41what Carolyn just talked about.
- 43:43So look for that on a reel
- 43:44in the next day or two.
- 43:49All right.
- 43:50We jumped all around these notes.
- 43:54It actually made sense to go
- 43:55in that order.
- 43:57Um, but I, I am really me personally,
- 44:01I'm at the point of let's
- 44:02keep it the way it is and
- 44:03change the allocation model.
- 44:07until we can figure this out
- 44:09and get better I i larry I
- 44:18don't agree that every
- 44:19level was watered down if
- 44:21you were in knoxville it
- 44:23was insane how how fit some
- 44:26of these people were in
- 44:28heat one heat two heat
- 44:29three I wasn't at the west
- 44:32so I didn't you don't get
- 44:34the same feel over a stream
- 44:36as you do live
- 44:39But, I mean,
- 44:39Carolyn knows she was battling
- 44:41these people.
- 44:42That was a super deep field.
- 44:48There was almost, I think, 20,
- 44:50on the female side,
- 44:51almost 20 individual games
- 44:53athletes that have
- 44:54individual games athletes
- 44:55experience in the last few years,
- 44:57which is crazy.
- 45:01All right.
- 45:03So let's uplift and talk
- 45:06about the uplift challenge.
- 45:09This week,
- 45:10our buddy Wadzombie is
- 45:12sponsoring the uplift
- 45:15challenge along with Hero
- 45:17Barbell for prizes.
- 45:20So make sure you go to
- 45:21Uplift's IG account and do
- 45:25everything you need to do
- 45:26to do the workout, video it,
- 45:28and make sure you submit
- 45:29that video by June 21st if
- 45:31you want to qualify for
- 45:33some of those prizes.
- 45:37In addition,
- 45:38they made a huge announcement
- 45:39this week that their actual
- 45:42hero or uplift,
- 45:46the beginnings of uplift
- 45:47were every Labor Day weekend,
- 45:49they would do a workout to
- 45:52raise awareness of suicide prevention.
- 45:55And they've done that for
- 45:56the last couple of years.
- 45:58This is, I believe,
- 45:59the third year that they're doing it.
- 46:01And they made the
- 46:02announcement that the
- 46:04person programming that
- 46:05workout this year will be Adrian Bosman.
- 46:10So this Labor Day,
- 46:11make sure that you gear yourself up.
- 46:15Unless you're competing at
- 46:16the Masters Games...
- 46:20make sure you gear yourself
- 46:21up to jump in that WOD that
- 46:25Adrian will put together.
- 46:26And they usually do like three, four,
- 46:29five versions of it to make
- 46:31sure there's a version for
- 46:33everybody to be able to do that.
- 46:36And it's a great cause.
- 46:37Make sure you jump on there and do that.
- 46:41But a cool get to get Adrian
- 46:43to program that for them.
- 46:48Andrew Sten said that should
- 46:49be the final workout for
- 46:50the Masters Games.
- 46:52That'd be really cool if they did that.
- 46:56So the next thing is the Service Open.
- 46:58Service Open has already started.
- 46:59It goes through June 13th.
- 47:03It is being hosted by the Rogue website.
- 47:07So it's a joint effort
- 47:08between CrossFit and Rogue.
- 47:12It requires athletes.
- 47:13It can be three workouts
- 47:14over the course of one week.
- 47:16The competition will include
- 47:17an RX and scaled community
- 47:19division and service
- 47:20members in the following
- 47:22professions are encouraged to join.
- 47:26Affiliate owner, CrossFit trainer,
- 47:29medical professional, educator,
- 47:32military veteran, active duty military,
- 47:35law enforcement, firefighter,
- 47:37first responder, EMS responder.
- 47:41So,
- 47:44I'm a CrossFit trainer.
- 47:46Carolyn's an educator.
- 47:49You doing it, Carolyn?
- 47:51Yeah, I've done.
- 47:52I did Randy and Kelly Brown already.
- 47:56Randy's one of them?
- 47:58Randy's one of them.
- 47:59Ben and Snap.
- 48:01second favorite workout of
- 48:03all time yeah randy's one
- 48:04of them kelly brown was a
- 48:05good one so the kelly brown
- 48:07one was uh five rounds for
- 48:09time 440 meter row 10 box
- 48:12jumps at 30 inches 24
- 48:14inches so higher box jumps
- 48:17uh 10 deadlifts also
- 48:18heavier I think for the
- 48:19females it's 185 I'm not
- 48:20sure what the weight is for
- 48:21the men and then the at the
- 48:24real kelly brown one is actually
- 48:2610 wall balls with 30 pounds
- 48:28and 20 pounds for the,
- 48:29for the ladies to a 10 and
- 48:31nine foot target,
- 48:32but to facilitate within the affiliates,
- 48:34they've adjusted to regular
- 48:3620 pounds and 14 pounds,
- 48:38but they say that you can
- 48:39like choose the heavier one.
- 48:41If you want, I chose the 14 pounds.
- 48:46Kenneth,
- 48:46the lab says bend and snap like
- 48:48legally blonde.
- 48:49Yes,
- 48:50that's exactly what I was referring to,
- 48:52but yeah, that was a sneaky work.
- 48:54It was, uh, it was hard.
- 48:57Houston, Texas, 94.
- 48:59Finished my Service Cup
- 49:00workouts yesterday.
- 49:01Was rough, but incredible.
- 49:04I just don't know how I'm
- 49:06going to do the Dango one.
- 49:07The running one is going to be...
- 49:12challenging because you have
- 49:15to film your distance and stuff.
- 49:17And it's like, I mean,
- 49:18if you're trying to win your,
- 49:20your division, which I am, um,
- 49:23like if I'm just doing it by myself,
- 49:25let's say at my school gym,
- 49:27like I'm gonna have to take
- 49:28the camera after my 400 meter run,
- 49:30show the assault runner,
- 49:32put my camera back, continue.
- 49:34Um,
- 49:35I just think of running distance like
- 49:37that in an online format is like,
- 49:41hard to do like even if you
- 49:44go and run outside like a I
- 49:46don't know 200 out and back
- 49:49like I hope people are
- 49:50actually running that
- 49:51distance like it's just
- 49:53hard to do I'll probably do
- 49:55it on the assault runner
- 49:56just so I can not have to
- 49:58film something outside but
- 50:02larry young says that one
- 50:03to do he can check all the
- 50:05boxes except the fitness one
- 50:09And there's community versions too.
- 50:11So if you're part of a
- 50:14service category there and
- 50:15you can't do the RX version,
- 50:17they have like a modified
- 50:19version for you to still
- 50:21participate in the service cup.
- 50:25How glad are you that they
- 50:26brought this back?
- 50:28Yeah.
- 50:30I mean, I always just, like,
- 50:32did the hashtag in the open.
- 50:33In the past, like, they just used the open,
- 50:36which I think that would
- 50:37actually make more sense
- 50:39because everyone signs up for the open.
- 50:41So you can actually see if
- 50:42you're the fittest teacher.
- 50:43But the problem is,
- 50:45is people use the hashtag
- 50:47for anything this year,
- 50:48as we saw some people that
- 50:50had jobs that they don't actually do.
- 50:53But...
- 50:56I think the open still would work,
- 50:58but this is another like revenue for,
- 51:01for them.
- 51:01And I think it's just kind of, it makes it,
- 51:03it makes it more special, I guess.
- 51:05Um,
- 51:06more focused on the service members in
- 51:09the community versus in the open.
- 51:12I think the open is a better
- 51:13representation of the
- 51:14fittest firefighter.
- 51:15Everything is they actually sign up,
- 51:17but this is still like a specialty.
- 51:20Do you have to prove your teacher?
- 51:22It says that you may be asked to prove.
- 51:24So I filmed the first one in
- 51:25the school and I filmed the school.
- 51:28And I'm pretty sure a bell
- 51:31rang while I was middle of Randy.
- 51:34So if they had any doubts.
- 51:38So the start date is June 6th,
- 51:40which is already passed.
- 51:41End date is Thursday, June 13th at 5 p.m.
- 51:44specific time or 8 p.m.
- 51:47Eastern time.
- 51:49So make sure you get those workouts in.
- 51:51Some of you already have.
- 51:53Good luck.
- 51:54And we hope to see you all
- 51:55next week to know who is
- 51:57the fittest where.
- 52:01John Woolley.
- 52:02John Woolley lost his Instagram account.
- 52:06Half a million followers.
- 52:07It's crazy.
- 52:09So insane.
- 52:11What happened?
- 52:12Lex told me that and I
- 52:13didn't know what happened.
- 52:16So I don't even really know.
- 52:19um it just got and he said
- 52:24it's not coming back I
- 52:25talked to him at syndicate
- 52:26crown um it's not coming
- 52:29back and he started a new a
- 52:32page and it's had a couple
- 52:34names but he settled on woolly memeth
- 52:39is the new page but he does
- 52:41want to kind of change the
- 52:43structure of it not just be
- 52:44a meme page but some other
- 52:46stuff that he has a passion
- 52:48for or an interest in uh
- 52:50but he's already like he's
- 52:52got tens of thousands of
- 52:54followers already back to
- 52:56it um he posted something
- 52:59that was copyrighted by mtv
- 53:04wow that is crazy
- 53:10they don't just make him
- 53:10delete that post yeah
- 53:14that's crazy yeah he was on
- 53:16glint and things I did not
- 53:18I did not catch that
- 53:19episode yet um but I'll try
- 53:22to catch that or I'll I'll
- 53:25just reach out to him he's
- 53:27been on with me on a couple
- 53:29different things when I
- 53:30used to do the music show
- 53:31and uh he's had a couple
- 53:33interviews when we've been
- 53:34at events together
- 53:36So I'll check out what happened.
- 53:38Maybe it wasn't his first time doing it.
- 53:40Yeah,
- 53:41it says that he already had two
- 53:42previous strikes.
- 53:44Yeah.
- 53:49So there's that.
- 53:52But it sounds like he's in a
- 53:53really good headspace with
- 53:54it because he did want to
- 53:56kind of change –
- 53:58What he's doing and he
- 54:01wanted to talk about
- 54:02different things than just memes.
- 54:04So it allows him to kind of
- 54:06change that up and move in
- 54:07a different direction.
- 54:08And he seems to be cool with that.
- 54:10So.
- 54:13So now we're going to talk
- 54:16about the CrossFit Games
- 54:17coming up a little bit,
- 54:18and I teased this on my IG
- 54:20Live before we jumped on here,
- 54:22but I'm going to show something first.
- 54:26I did a poll question on YouTube today,
- 54:30and it was, at the 2024 CrossFit Games,
- 54:38who do you pick to win the women's title,
- 54:40Tia Claire Toomey or The Field?
- 54:45And 88% of you all said Tia
- 54:48Claire Toomey with 12% saying the field.
- 54:53So I'm going to ask you guys first,
- 54:55surprised by the results of this?
- 54:59No, not at all.
- 55:01I'm actually surprised 12% said the field.
- 55:03Yeah, I guess.
- 55:04When I voted earlier,
- 55:05I think it was like 93 and 7.
- 55:07And that was like right
- 55:10about what I would expect to see.
- 55:13Okay.
- 55:15Well,
- 55:15I am one person that is picking the
- 55:16field.
- 55:19Of course you are.
- 55:20And this is not new.
- 55:23I've been saying this for months.
- 55:25And when I do my spin poll,
- 55:28I put Emma Lawson number one.
- 55:34I actually, in the spin poll two times ago,
- 55:36I went Emma Lawson, Laura Horvat,
- 55:39then Tia Claire Toomey.
- 55:43The last spin poll, I went Emma Lawson,
- 55:46Tia Claire Toomey, Laura Horvat.
- 55:52I feel like what she is
- 55:56doing is amazing and she is
- 55:57a phenomenal athlete and
- 55:59that if everything is perfect,
- 56:02she will do amazing things
- 56:05and probably win.
- 56:07But this is a lot.
- 56:08It's been two years since
- 56:09she's been on the floor.
- 56:11She has to crank up the volume.
- 56:13She has to get that body
- 56:16ready for another run at this.
- 56:19Anything can happen.
- 56:20Everybody thought Mike Tyson
- 56:23was unbeatable until Buster
- 56:25Douglas beat him.
- 56:26Everybody thought that
- 56:28Georgetown couldn't be beat
- 56:29with Patrick Ewing and NC
- 56:31State beat them in the NCAA finals.
- 56:34Upsets happen all the time in sports.
- 56:37And for everybody to talk
- 56:38about this like it's an absolute,
- 56:41I think is insane.
- 56:43Just as much as you guys are
- 56:44yelling that I'm insane in the chat,
- 56:46that I'm on crack and all
- 56:48of those things.
- 56:49I think it's insane to think
- 56:51in sports period, there are absolutes.
- 56:58Other than...
- 57:00I can respect the, hey,
- 57:01this is a sport and things can happen,
- 57:04just like Roman.
- 57:05Like, barring a sickness,
- 57:09an actual injury in
- 57:11something at the games,
- 57:13she will run away with it.
- 57:15Like,
- 57:16if you're just saying she needs to
- 57:17get back in shape,
- 57:18she needs to get her body
- 57:20back ready from the baby,
- 57:22you are on crack.
- 57:23I don't think she has to get
- 57:25her body back after the baby.
- 57:27That's what you just said.
- 57:29She's still got to retrain her body.
- 57:31I'll take Mia's body from
- 57:34when she had the pregnancy.
- 57:36She had a better body than I did.
- 57:39Every athlete is cranking up
- 57:41their volume at this point.
- 57:42Every athlete is going to
- 57:44another level for games training.
- 57:47It is another stressor on
- 57:48the body is what I'm saying.
- 57:51And for years,
- 57:53everybody has told me that I
- 57:55put too much credence on
- 57:57the results of semifinals
- 58:00when I look at my games predictions.
- 58:03And now, because Tia did what she did,
- 58:05everybody's jumping on that
- 58:07Tia is going to win the games.
- 58:11Absolutely.
- 58:13I agree.
- 58:14I agree with Jamie.
- 58:15Barring any injury,
- 58:17fluke injury or something
- 58:18prior to the games.
- 58:22sickness.
- 58:25Someone food poisoning something.
- 58:27Yeah.
- 58:30It looks pretty strong.
- 58:31But yeah, it doesn't take like,
- 58:33I still think it's gonna be close.
- 58:36Between like Laura is never
- 58:39to be counted out.
- 58:41Like Laura,
- 58:42like Laura has been the second
- 58:44best to Tia for the last
- 58:46few years while she was in the field.
- 58:47And it takes something away
- 58:48from Laura's win last year.
- 58:50She was awesome.
- 58:52But I think it with Tia in
- 58:54the field with that many events,
- 58:59if she's healthy and everything,
- 59:02I would expect her to win.
- 59:04Can she lose?
- 59:05Yes.
- 59:06Anyone can lose.
- 59:07Like you said, right?
- 59:08It's sports.
- 59:08That's why we,
- 59:09that's why we play the game.
- 59:10She can lose.
- 59:12Do I think?
- 59:14No.
- 59:16Can it happen?
- 59:17Yes.
- 59:20Okay.
- 59:21Let me ask you this.
- 59:22Last time she competed at the games,
- 59:26she was not the dominant T
- 59:27as she was in years past.
- 59:30She was not healthy too.
- 59:33That's, that's what I was saying.
- 59:34Like if she's healthy,
- 59:37She still won.
- 59:40Not even healthy.
- 59:41But the competition is much
- 59:43better this year than they
- 59:44were in years past.
- 59:48You're telling me two years older,
- 59:50she's going to be fitter
- 59:51than she was two years ago?
- 59:52Yes.
- 59:54I am.
- 59:56Now she can defy age.
- 59:59yeah but I do agree with
- 1:00:00your point with like lawson
- 1:00:01is going to be there in the
- 1:00:02mix she's very consistent
- 1:00:04there's not many holes that
- 1:00:05she has so she is going to
- 1:00:07stay relevant the whole
- 1:00:08weekend laura we know the
- 1:00:10one hole that she can have
- 1:00:11but she's she can win multiple events um
- 1:00:18Yeah, it'll be interesting.
- 1:00:19I think a lot of the events
- 1:00:21that Emma would win,
- 1:00:22Tia excels at the same similar things.
- 1:00:26A lot of stuff that Laura would win,
- 1:00:28neither Emma or Tia win those,
- 1:00:33if that makes sense.
- 1:00:36Yep.
- 1:00:37I think Emma's like a mini Tia.
- 1:00:40Like a younger version, future version,
- 1:00:44possibly, of Tia.
- 1:00:46Although, like, can't count out Kazan.
- 1:00:49Raptus is looking great.
- 1:00:51There's plenty of great women.
- 1:00:53Yeah, Gabby.
- 1:00:55Danielle, you know,
- 1:00:56Brooke's back in the field now.
- 1:01:00Haley.
- 1:01:01There's a lot of people who could middle.
- 1:01:04If she slips up here, slips up there.
- 1:01:06Then they weren't there in the past.
- 1:01:11Just saying.
- 1:01:13Yeah,
- 1:01:13and that's what the men's side needed
- 1:01:15when Matt was in the field.
- 1:01:17Matt would win or he'd take second,
- 1:01:20but there was no one taking middle.
- 1:01:23It happened with Justin.
- 1:01:26Pat couldn't get enough people to middle.
- 1:01:28But this is taking nothing away from Tia.
- 1:01:32I think she is amazing.
- 1:01:33She is the greatest
- 1:01:34CrossFitter to ever do this sport.
- 1:01:38Male, female, period.
- 1:01:40Period.
- 1:01:42I hate when people talk
- 1:01:45about winning in an absolute sense.
- 1:01:52That's it.
- 1:01:54Well, nothing's absolute,
- 1:01:56but... Everybody's talking
- 1:01:59like it's an absolute.
- 1:02:00It pretty much is, and it's annoying.
- 1:02:04We just don't even want to
- 1:02:05deal with her anymore.
- 1:02:08See,
- 1:02:08I like watching a champion just to see
- 1:02:11what the bar is, a possibility.
- 1:02:17Some people are annoyed that she wins.
- 1:02:21She's made the woman's field much better.
- 1:02:24She's pushed the woman's
- 1:02:25field better than anyone
- 1:02:27else has ever been able to do.
- 1:02:31Tristan,
- 1:02:31there's a difference between smart
- 1:02:33money and an absolute.
- 1:02:38An absolute.
- 1:02:40All week long, all I've heard is,
- 1:02:43it's over.
- 1:02:44Might as well not even have
- 1:02:45the competition.
- 1:02:47Well, we're having a competition.
- 1:02:52But Carolyn, when you first came on,
- 1:02:53before we went live, you said to me,
- 1:02:55that's why they play the game.
- 1:02:56Yeah, 100%.
- 1:02:57Yeah, that's why you play sports.
- 1:02:58You don't know what's going to happen.
- 1:03:00People get hurt.
- 1:03:01People start having bad events.
- 1:03:03And then mentally, they are out of it.
- 1:03:10That's all.
- 1:03:11Yeah.
- 1:03:11That's all I'm saying.
- 1:03:12Like,
- 1:03:12what she did at Syndicate was amazing.
- 1:03:15And she dominated that field.
- 1:03:20But there were a lot of
- 1:03:21really good people not there.
- 1:03:23Like, we talked about the East being deep,
- 1:03:25but, like, Laura wasn't there.
- 1:03:28And Gabby wasn't there.
- 1:03:29And Alex Kazan wasn't there.
- 1:03:30And Ariel.
- 1:03:32Those are all people that can get.
- 1:03:34Dolmett looked great in the West, too.
- 1:03:36But Alex is a home run hitter.
- 1:03:39She can actually go
- 1:03:41toe-to-toe in stuff that
- 1:03:43Tia's not good at.
- 1:03:44Like what?
- 1:03:47Just like Laura.
- 1:03:48Just like... I mean,
- 1:03:51Tia was in the field at
- 1:03:53Rogue and Alex won two events.
- 1:03:59That's all I'm saying.
- 1:04:00That's all I'm saying.
- 1:04:08Okay.
- 1:04:09I don't think Tia's far
- 1:04:10behind on any of the events
- 1:04:12from like Gazan winning or someone else.
- 1:04:16The only thing that I think
- 1:04:17Tia gets a little bit
- 1:04:19behind is that there's like
- 1:04:20a major power output event
- 1:04:22on a machine or something
- 1:04:23where there's no way she's
- 1:04:24matching someone like Laura
- 1:04:26Horvath that's just gonna
- 1:04:30dominate certain stuff.
- 1:04:33But
- 1:04:35She's so well-rounded.
- 1:04:36Her Olympic lifting is great.
- 1:04:37Even like her raw strength is great.
- 1:04:40Like there's, there's no holes.
- 1:04:42There's no major holes.
- 1:04:43And if she has a bad event, it's,
- 1:04:45it's an 11th place.
- 1:04:49Mate,
- 1:04:50like it's everyone else is going to
- 1:04:53get something outside the top 15,
- 1:04:55but she just doesn't.
- 1:05:00But she did last time she
- 1:05:01was on the games floor.
- 1:05:04On a single under.
- 1:05:08Okay.
- 1:05:09I beat her.
- 1:05:10It happened.
- 1:05:10That's all I'm saying.
- 1:05:12It happened.
- 1:05:15I beat her on a skipping one.
- 1:05:18But I guess everyone's
- 1:05:19saying it's an absolute is
- 1:05:20what makes the upset so great.
- 1:05:24So.
- 1:05:27All right.
- 1:05:30people make mistakes also in
- 1:05:32workouts like they just
- 1:05:34make mistakes sometimes for
- 1:05:37sure all right uh kenneth
- 1:05:42says might not even watch
- 1:05:44the games no colton no
- 1:05:45taylor stealth no prevos
- 1:05:50all right uh next thing is
- 1:05:53roman's statement about
- 1:05:55taking third with one leg
- 1:05:58people better be scared or afraid
- 1:06:02Now that he has two.
- 1:06:04Thoughts?
- 1:06:05I don't think people are afraid.
- 1:06:07I don't either.
- 1:06:10I don't either.
- 1:06:11I think there's a lot of men
- 1:06:12that are confident right
- 1:06:13now in this field.
- 1:06:15A lot of them that feel that
- 1:06:16it's wide open to win.
- 1:06:20Which is crazy.
- 1:06:21Jeff is, you know, the champion.
- 1:06:23He is going to do well.
- 1:06:24But I think there's a lot of
- 1:06:25guys that are confident and can do it.
- 1:06:31You know what I think is
- 1:06:32hilarious is after the games last year,
- 1:06:35Roman said Jeff talked too
- 1:06:36much trash and was unsportsmanlike.
- 1:06:39Yeah.
- 1:06:40Who was the only one not
- 1:06:41talking trash at Syndicate Crown?
- 1:06:44Roman.
- 1:06:46No, Jeff.
- 1:06:47Oh, yes.
- 1:06:48I felt Roman was constantly
- 1:06:50talking trash at Syndicate.
- 1:06:53Dallin was talking trash.
- 1:06:54Roman was talking trash.
- 1:06:55Hopper.
- 1:06:56They're all talking trash.
- 1:06:58And there's Jeff just
- 1:06:59quietly doing his thing.
- 1:07:07Now that's an absolute.
- 1:07:08Adler's winning the games.
- 1:07:09I'm just kidding.
- 1:07:10Nothing's an absolute.
- 1:07:11I just think the men's field
- 1:07:12is so exciting.
- 1:07:14There's so many good guys.
- 1:07:17This is by far the deepest
- 1:07:19field of men that we've ever seen,
- 1:07:23I think.
- 1:07:25Of legit chances to win.
- 1:07:28You've got seven or eight guys that are
- 1:07:31One small trip up,
- 1:07:32and you could fall eight spots quick.
- 1:07:34Yeah.
- 1:07:35Oh,
- 1:07:35there's going to be some middling there.
- 1:07:37There's a lot.
- 1:07:39Yeah,
- 1:07:39the men's field's crazy good this year.
- 1:07:44As much as I want Belner to
- 1:07:47do well and always root for him,
- 1:07:49I feel like this is going
- 1:07:50to be his worst shot
- 1:07:51because he always has a mistake,
- 1:07:53and you cannot have those
- 1:07:55mistakes in this field.
- 1:07:59Either you can't have one or
- 1:08:00everybody's got to have one.
- 1:08:02Yeah, and that's not happening.
- 1:08:05Because Medeiros looks better.
- 1:08:08And he's back to just don't
- 1:08:09make a mistake.
- 1:08:12Wads always said Medeiros is going to win,
- 1:08:13been saying it all year.
- 1:08:15That would be a great comeback story,
- 1:08:17though.
- 1:08:19Especially with this group at the top.
- 1:08:21Yeah.
- 1:08:21For him to pull it off again.
- 1:08:23I'd be happy for him.
- 1:08:28think this is a great
- 1:08:29discussion I hope or
- 1:08:31crossfit uses rogues live
- 1:08:32stream format for the games
- 1:08:35it was so good that was
- 1:08:37like the best thing to come
- 1:08:38out of 2023. being able to
- 1:08:43pick the the screen you
- 1:08:45wanted to watch it was like
- 1:08:46being there live yeah
- 1:08:55um damien asked will we have
- 1:08:57a better guess after the
- 1:08:58first event depends on what
- 1:09:00the first event is yeah I
- 1:09:02mean because if it's a big
- 1:09:03run then that's going to
- 1:09:05favor those who run well
- 1:09:08jeff yeah so impressive how
- 1:09:11much that he's transformed
- 1:09:14as an athlete like he's so
- 1:09:15strong and the way he's his
- 1:09:18aerobic capacity has
- 1:09:19developed over the last few
- 1:09:20years has been so impressive
- 1:09:25It is because he was really
- 1:09:27just a strong guy.
- 1:09:28And then he's now turned
- 1:09:30into like the engine guy with,
- 1:09:33with strength.
- 1:09:35Yeah.
- 1:09:36Yeah.
- 1:09:36He doesn't have any major holes too.
- 1:09:41That we know.
- 1:09:42Everybody's talking about
- 1:09:43the rogue live stream.
- 1:09:45They won't.
- 1:09:46If they charged like rogue did.
- 1:09:48What was it?
- 1:09:5025 bucks for the weekend.
- 1:09:52Well worth it.
- 1:09:52In my opinion.
- 1:09:54If you're a CrossFit nerd,
- 1:09:56that was the best $25 you could spend.
- 1:09:59I didn't end up watching it.
- 1:10:00I just donated $25.
- 1:10:02I just wanted to make sure
- 1:10:03that I supported so that
- 1:10:04they could keep doing it
- 1:10:05for other events.
- 1:10:06Because I was there, so I was like,
- 1:10:08I don't really need the live feed,
- 1:10:09but I just paid the $25 just to... Yeah,
- 1:10:15and the Manning cast
- 1:10:17version they had with Pat
- 1:10:19Sherwood was great.
- 1:10:22So you could get two
- 1:10:23different perspectives,
- 1:10:24switch from one to the other.
- 1:10:26Um, it was awesome.
- 1:10:30They brought in a lot of people.
- 1:10:33Yeah.
- 1:10:33Pat, Pat hosted the whole thing.
- 1:10:36And then they bring in like Josh rich,
- 1:10:39Annie, uh, Katrin, Annie Sakamoto.
- 1:10:44Uh, they brought it, it was,
- 1:10:46they brought in strong men
- 1:10:48during the CrossFit,
- 1:10:50which was interesting.
- 1:10:54Damien says he's cheap, only $4.99.
- 1:10:57Watch it once, and you'll get sucked in.
- 1:11:05So the next question someone
- 1:11:08put in here was, early predictions,
- 1:11:10who will be rookie of the year?
- 1:11:13So my first answer to this,
- 1:11:16because I didn't put this one in here,
- 1:11:19We have no freaking idea who
- 1:11:20will be rookie of the year
- 1:11:21because there's no criteria.
- 1:11:23It's just whoever they pick
- 1:11:24at the end of the weekend.
- 1:11:27But there are eight rookie
- 1:11:29men and 12 rookie women,
- 1:11:31and they include Callum Clements,
- 1:11:36Victor Hoffer, Ivan Kukartsev,
- 1:11:41Harry Lightfoot, Chris Ibarra,
- 1:11:44Peter Ellis, Ruan Potgeiter,
- 1:11:48Austin Hatfield,
- 1:11:50Then on the women, Gemma Rader,
- 1:11:53Andrea Pinheiro,
- 1:11:55I put question marks
- 1:11:56because she went in the Masters.
- 1:11:58This is her first time elite.
- 1:12:00Lexi Neely, Georgia Pryor, Gracie Walton,
- 1:12:03Daisy McDonald, Hattie Cano,
- 1:12:05Kyra Milligan, Amy Kringle,
- 1:12:08Linda Kiesman.
- 1:12:10Are you missing Jack Rosema?
- 1:12:11Yeah, that's who I picked, actually.
- 1:12:13I am.
- 1:12:14Jack Rosema.
- 1:12:15Yeah.
- 1:12:16Because I was going to say
- 1:12:17Austin Hatfield wasn't the
- 1:12:18highest finished rookie, I don't think,
- 1:12:20in the East.
- 1:12:23Let me add that to the mix here.
- 1:12:29I picked Jack as my dark
- 1:12:30horse to make the games,
- 1:12:32and so I just assumed he
- 1:12:33wasn't a rookie because I
- 1:12:35already had him there.
- 1:12:41There we go.
- 1:12:41So, thoughts?
- 1:12:42Thoughts?
- 1:12:45I'm intrigued by Chris Rivera.
- 1:12:50If they, if they go gymnastics heavy,
- 1:12:52I think that's a huge
- 1:12:53advantage for him more than
- 1:12:56cause he's great at gymnastics.
- 1:13:00I don't know enough about him, but he was,
- 1:13:02I was expecting him to have a fall,
- 1:13:05like a fallout in the West
- 1:13:06and he just never did.
- 1:13:07He was always just there.
- 1:13:08And I was like, Oh yeah.
- 1:13:10Okay.
- 1:13:11he's worked hard on his
- 1:13:11strength because when I
- 1:13:13talked to him two years ago
- 1:13:14in our semi-final series
- 1:13:16like he was super confident
- 1:13:18at the um super confident
- 1:13:22in his gymnastics ability
- 1:13:24but was not in his strength
- 1:13:26so he's come a long way
- 1:13:27with that so we have in the
- 1:13:31we have a lot of hat fields
- 1:13:33I do like the Jack Rosema pick though.
- 1:13:35That's who I picked.
- 1:13:36Especially with the
- 1:13:36confidence that he had when
- 1:13:37he did that interview with you.
- 1:13:39And he was like, no,
- 1:13:39I'm coming to podium at the
- 1:13:40East and I'm going to go, you know,
- 1:13:42top 15 at the games.
- 1:13:43I was like, okay, so you're very, you know,
- 1:13:46confident in where you're at this year.
- 1:13:48And he was the highest, I think,
- 1:13:50finishing rookie in the East.
- 1:13:51And I don't know how he is
- 1:13:54with like odd objects and
- 1:13:56stuff like that.
- 1:13:56Cause we didn't test any of
- 1:13:57that at semifinals,
- 1:13:59but I'll be interesting to see.
- 1:14:02Uh, Larry young for 99, uh, Gracie Walton,
- 1:14:06rookie of the year.
- 1:14:08That's who I picked for women.
- 1:14:10Damien Fink, Austin or Gracie decks.
- 1:14:15Also who's men's 30 to five
- 1:14:17to 39 rookie of the year.
- 1:14:20Are you saying someone that
- 1:14:20came in 40th just under the
- 1:14:23cut line is going to be
- 1:14:24rookie of the year decks.
- 1:14:30Gracie or Hatfield from Chelsea Miller.
- 1:14:35I think this is in reference to Jack.
- 1:14:37Rumor is he has a new strength coach.
- 1:14:40I wonder if Larry Young has
- 1:14:41some inside information.
- 1:14:46Claudia Gluck has been looking good.
- 1:14:48She could do well.
- 1:14:52I know that nobody knows who
- 1:14:53this person is,
- 1:14:55but Hattie Cano is really well-rounded.
- 1:15:02good pick and looking at the
- 1:15:05women she's my pick for the
- 1:15:06women's side it's a great
- 1:15:08thing um on the men's side
- 1:15:14I think nobody's saying Victor Hoffer
- 1:15:27I know he has some strength deficiencies,
- 1:15:30but he's really good at a lot of things.
- 1:15:33He moves very well.
- 1:15:35And he's going to win some events.
- 1:15:38His running isn't that great.
- 1:15:44and his raw strength
- 1:15:46probably is a little bit on
- 1:15:47the lower side compared to
- 1:15:49some of the bigger boys in the field.
- 1:15:50But his gymnastics,
- 1:15:51he can win a couple events if it's very,
- 1:15:55very strong, like, gymnastic base.
- 1:15:58When you're going to get at
- 1:15:59least one of those at the games, right?
- 1:16:03He's really good upper body pulling.
- 1:16:05Yep.
- 1:16:06So there's usually something
- 1:16:08like that there.
- 1:16:08I think he's going to have a
- 1:16:10couple really high finishes
- 1:16:11that will give him a few
- 1:16:13hundred points that then
- 1:16:16it's just can he do well
- 1:16:17the rest of the way.
- 1:16:19I think you've got to take
- 1:16:22your mind out of past games and –
- 1:16:27I don't think you're going
- 1:16:28to get the games of past.
- 1:16:29I don't think you're going
- 1:16:30to get a bunch of running events.
- 1:16:31I think it's going to be the
- 1:16:32machine games and you're
- 1:16:33going to see Dalen and
- 1:16:35Hopper and Fikowski excel.
- 1:16:37I don't think someone like
- 1:16:39Hopper has as great of a shot.
- 1:16:47It's still way more events
- 1:16:48than the stages we've seen.
- 1:16:50And I still think you're
- 1:16:51going to get a gymnastics heavy event.
- 1:16:55There's more monostructural
- 1:16:56at the games because you can do that.
- 1:17:01Yeah, when you're outside.
- 1:17:07Think about the Coliseum.
- 1:17:09Maybe for one event.
- 1:17:11Just take all the Coliseum
- 1:17:12programming and extrapolate that.
- 1:17:14Yeah.
- 1:17:17They're going to go outside
- 1:17:18for more than one event.
- 1:17:19A swim.
- 1:17:21They're going to swim.
- 1:17:25I think – I love the idea of
- 1:17:26a Friday Night Lights.
- 1:17:27Texas is known for Friday Night Lights.
- 1:17:30Go get a high school football field.
- 1:17:32Not going to happen.
- 1:17:34Going to happen.
- 1:17:35They are spending all this
- 1:17:36money to move to that stadium.
- 1:17:39That's where they're going
- 1:17:40to put their energy.
- 1:17:40They're not going to find
- 1:17:41other venues and put time
- 1:17:43and money into making another –
- 1:17:47all they want everyone at
- 1:17:48that venue for their
- 1:17:50vendors they are not going
- 1:17:51outside of that well the
- 1:17:53vendors aren't in the venue
- 1:17:54the vendors are down the
- 1:17:55street yeah like they'll do
- 1:17:57some sort of running it'll
- 1:17:58just be probably in the morning
- 1:18:04It'll just be interesting
- 1:18:05how big that venue is.
- 1:18:06If they can put a turf area,
- 1:18:09can they do the flips or some sleds?
- 1:18:15Boz loves sleds, whether it's sled pull,
- 1:18:18sled push.
- 1:18:20I mean, we saw that on the rubber floor.
- 1:18:22I guess they can still do that there.
- 1:18:24It was in the Coliseum.
- 1:18:26Dex used to live in Fort Worth.
- 1:18:29Fort Worth has some pretty
- 1:18:30interesting options for outdoor venues.
- 1:18:32Trinity Trail, TCU Football Stadium.
- 1:18:38Listen,
- 1:18:39they made those people run in 118
- 1:18:42degrees in Vegas that year
- 1:18:44for the West Coast Classic.
- 1:18:46Yeah, some people dropped over,
- 1:18:48but the show went on.
- 1:18:51I'm not saying they won't go
- 1:18:52outside and run one event.
- 1:18:54I actually do think they'll
- 1:18:55take them outside.
- 1:18:56If that Trinity Trail is
- 1:18:58close to that venue and
- 1:18:59able to step outside,
- 1:19:01I can see it happening.
- 1:19:02But I don't see them paying
- 1:19:06to go to an entirely
- 1:19:07different venue and set up
- 1:19:09an entirely different venue.
- 1:19:11They don't need to put a rig and stuff up.
- 1:19:13You can do an outdoor event
- 1:19:15without a ton of equipment.
- 1:19:17It's freaking CrossFit.
- 1:19:20Take some sandbags.
- 1:19:24They could still go outside
- 1:19:25and do something and come
- 1:19:26back in like they did for
- 1:19:28the semifinals or what they
- 1:19:31did at the games.
- 1:19:38And that Vegas run was in a
- 1:19:39hot parking lot, right?
- 1:19:40Yes, it was.
- 1:19:45And Bethany Flores...
- 1:19:48beat about all but one of
- 1:19:50the men on that run.
- 1:19:58Sarah says only off-site will be a swim.
- 1:20:00No, I don't agree with that.
- 1:20:03I think they'll have more.
- 1:20:05Football stadium is a
- 1:20:0620-minute walk away from the arena.
- 1:20:10I don't think they have the
- 1:20:10funding to reserve a pool
- 1:20:14and a football stadium and the venue.
- 1:20:22If he dies, he dies.
- 1:20:25Rocky IV reference.
- 1:20:27Favorite movie.
- 1:20:35Deck says TCU would be so
- 1:20:37easy to get cost site for.
- 1:20:38A ton of health initiatives with them.
- 1:20:44There we go.
- 1:20:46All right,
- 1:20:47so final rookie of the year now
- 1:20:49that we've totally went off the rails.
- 1:20:52I'm going to go with... I
- 1:20:58hate going with Rosamund
- 1:20:58because you already picked him.
- 1:21:00So I'm going to go Victor
- 1:21:00Hoffer and Hattie Canio.
- 1:21:06I have Rosamund and Grace Swanton.
- 1:21:09I'll try to pick someone
- 1:21:10else from you guys.
- 1:21:12So Victor... I'll go...
- 1:21:18Chris Ibarra and Amy Kringle.
- 1:21:23Good picks.
- 1:21:26Amy Kringle was probably my number two.
- 1:21:27And none of us picked Austin Hatfield.
- 1:21:31We'll let that other show do that.
- 1:21:37All right.
- 1:21:40Question here.
- 1:21:40CrossFit being sold.
- 1:21:43So
- 1:21:45I don't know.
- 1:21:46I'm guessing either Lex or
- 1:21:48Carolyn put this in here.
- 1:21:49I think it was Lex.
- 1:21:50And when Peter was doing
- 1:21:53Beyond the Whiteboard last week,
- 1:21:55it was a week and a half ago now,
- 1:21:58Mads Jacobs was on,
- 1:22:00said that Dawnfall was at
- 1:22:03an event in Europe where he
- 1:22:05told the affiliate owners
- 1:22:06that they were preparing to
- 1:22:07sell CrossFit.
- 1:22:09CrossFit came out,
- 1:22:11said that isn't exactly what was said,
- 1:22:13that because they are owned
- 1:22:21by an equity firm,
- 1:22:24that you're always kind of
- 1:22:26gearing up for the sale,
- 1:22:29but there's no plans for
- 1:22:30that in the next two years.
- 1:22:34So I don't even think it matters anymore.
- 1:22:37Like,
- 1:22:39Now that you're already with
- 1:22:40a private equity firm,
- 1:22:41it doesn't get any worse than this.
- 1:22:45It's either going to go back
- 1:22:47to a private company or
- 1:22:48it's going to be a private equity firm.
- 1:22:51And it's just going to change hands.
- 1:22:53And none of those people are
- 1:22:54going to directly run CrossFit.
- 1:22:57They're just going to do it
- 1:22:58as an investment or some
- 1:23:01private company is going to
- 1:23:02buy it and then want to do something.
- 1:23:04And that might be a good thing.
- 1:23:06So...
- 1:23:09Either way,
- 1:23:09I don't think it really matters anymore.
- 1:23:14Once Greg sold it,
- 1:23:16it changed how it was owned,
- 1:23:19changed the structure,
- 1:23:19and we're never going back to that.
- 1:23:24this point it's just it's
- 1:23:25either going to be
- 1:23:26swallowed up by a bigger
- 1:23:26company like ufc and dana
- 1:23:30white's big it's now wwe
- 1:23:32ufc and I don't know what
- 1:23:35the bigger company is
- 1:23:36called but they own all
- 1:23:37that stuff so anyway um
- 1:23:44there's that uh and then
- 1:23:47we're just gonna finish up
- 1:23:48with what's next for the show
- 1:23:51So we are starting our Games
- 1:23:53Athlete Series.
- 1:23:55We started that with Hattie
- 1:23:56Cano on Friday night.
- 1:23:58Had a great conversation with her.
- 1:23:59In case you haven't heard of her,
- 1:24:02she is a qualifier out of
- 1:24:03the North America West and
- 1:24:06headed to the Games.
- 1:24:07Hasn't been on many shows.
- 1:24:09No.
- 1:24:11No.
- 1:24:11She made her 15th appearance
- 1:24:12on our show on Friday night.
- 1:24:16But, you know, nobody knew.
- 1:24:19So...
- 1:24:23But we have two people
- 1:24:23locked up for this week already.
- 1:24:26Both on Thursday.
- 1:24:27Back to back.
- 1:24:30Tough day for this dude.
- 1:24:33Thursday at noon, we have Alex Kazan.
- 1:24:36Nice.
- 1:24:38Followed by Thursday at 1, Eastern Time,
- 1:24:42James Sprague.
- 1:24:45So a nice back-to-backer on
- 1:24:47Thursday should be a fun
- 1:24:50two hours of conversation.
- 1:24:53We'll talk to them about semifinals,
- 1:24:55going back to the games for
- 1:24:58third and second time and
- 1:25:00what that means to them and
- 1:25:02all of that stuff.
- 1:25:02So, yeah, have that coming up.
- 1:25:10Someone tell Savan that it's can-yo.
- 1:25:13Can-yo.
- 1:25:15What does he say?
- 1:25:17It's not that.
- 1:25:20Kenyo.
- 1:25:23I don't know.
- 1:25:26So, yes, Kenneth, we have James Sprague.
- 1:25:30I've only ever had James on
- 1:25:31one time and it was with
- 1:25:33the whole Brute crew.
- 1:25:35I did an interview with Dallin, James,
- 1:25:38Emma.
- 1:25:41It was when they were just, when he was,
- 1:25:42it was all the teens, right?
- 1:25:45now james dominated that
- 1:25:46whole conversation but it's
- 1:25:49the only time I've had him
- 1:25:50on and super stoked that
- 1:25:51he's coming back on um to
- 1:25:55do that so that's going to
- 1:25:57be fun the last thing is
- 1:26:01going to be kind of a plea um and that is
- 1:26:07think we cover the masters
- 1:26:08group as well as any other
- 1:26:11media company in the space
- 1:26:13other than like the masters
- 1:26:15themselves like with
- 1:26:16masters chatter all of that
- 1:26:19stuff I don't want to take
- 1:26:19anything away from them but
- 1:26:21of the more um overarching
- 1:26:24media companies I think we
- 1:26:25cover the masters as well
- 1:26:27as anybody we are trying
- 1:26:31trying I've put in the request
- 1:26:33To go do a behind the scenes
- 1:26:36of the Masters CrossFit Games.
- 1:26:40I have put together a team
- 1:26:43to come do that with me.
- 1:26:47Because Jamie will be a
- 1:26:48little busy that weekend.
- 1:26:50I don't want to bother her
- 1:26:51with any of that stuff.
- 1:26:53But I've put together a team
- 1:26:55that if we get that from
- 1:26:58Legends or CrossFit...
- 1:27:00That we'll be able to come in,
- 1:27:01talk to you all behind the scenes,
- 1:27:03highlight all the awesome
- 1:27:05stuff that the masters do.
- 1:27:08And very much like the other
- 1:27:10behind the scenes that you see,
- 1:27:12just we'll do it with the
- 1:27:12masters community.
- 1:27:15I put that request in.
- 1:27:17I've heard nothing.
- 1:27:20So if you are a Masters
- 1:27:23athlete or someone that
- 1:27:24wants to know more about
- 1:27:25the Masters athletes and
- 1:27:27you want this to happen, please,
- 1:27:30please let the legends people know,
- 1:27:33let CrossFit know that we
- 1:27:35want to do this.
- 1:27:41And I've got a really cool
- 1:27:42team put together.
- 1:27:47It also helps that a lot of
- 1:27:48my friends are competing.
- 1:27:51And I want to be there to support them.
- 1:27:54And now I have a frog in my throat.
- 1:27:59So with that,
- 1:28:01I am making the plea to
- 1:28:03please let me cover this.
- 1:28:06Because people are going to
- 1:28:08want to jump in on the fact
- 1:28:10that it's the games.
- 1:28:13When we went to Legends last year,
- 1:28:14we were the only company there.
- 1:28:18The only company at Legends.
- 1:28:20Will they have a live stream?
- 1:28:22are.
- 1:28:26The teens and the masters
- 1:28:28are both having a live stream.
- 1:28:33The heads of both companies
- 1:28:36were told that that was
- 1:28:39going to help their live
- 1:28:40streams to be on at the
- 1:28:41same time during the weekend.
- 1:28:45Not sure I buy that.
- 1:28:46What?
- 1:28:49Yeah.
- 1:28:49It's totally going to
- 1:28:50distract from one or the other.
- 1:28:55They're not on the same channel, right?
- 1:28:56There's.
- 1:28:59They're both going to be on YouTube or.
- 1:29:01Right.
- 1:29:01But not on one channel.
- 1:29:04There's going to be a teens channel.
- 1:29:06And so you have to go to one or the other.
- 1:29:08Yep.
- 1:29:10You're viewing.
- 1:29:14So I'm putting out the plea
- 1:29:17to our listeners and our
- 1:29:19Masters lovers that if you
- 1:29:21want us to cover this,
- 1:29:23people who know these athletes,
- 1:29:25who have interviewed these athletes,
- 1:29:27who know the backstories
- 1:29:29before we even get there on
- 1:29:31a lot of these athletes,
- 1:29:32Please let us cover this.
- 1:29:34Please, please, please.
- 1:29:36And I bring with me the
- 1:29:38greatest stats and
- 1:29:39information person ever who
- 1:29:42puts out leaderboards
- 1:29:43nonstop of everything
- 1:29:44that's going on through the weekend,
- 1:29:46charts and graphs and
- 1:29:48interesting numbers and
- 1:29:49facts and figures all weekend long.
- 1:29:52You get that too.
- 1:29:56And when we were at Legends
- 1:29:58and Holly was doing all that for us,
- 1:30:01I don't know how many
- 1:30:02mathletes came up to me and said,
- 1:30:03thank you so much.
- 1:30:04What she does, I can share with my family.
- 1:30:07I can share on social media
- 1:30:09so people know how I'm
- 1:30:10doing during this weekend.
- 1:30:13And a lot of competitions don't do that.
- 1:30:16And it's hard to, like,
- 1:30:17screen grab the leaderboard
- 1:30:19where it makes sense to people.
- 1:30:22So...
- 1:30:25We want to do a really
- 1:30:26freaking cool job with this,
- 1:30:28and we want to do it in a
- 1:30:29way where everybody is highlighted.
- 1:30:31Do you have sponsors to help
- 1:30:35you for the trip?
- 1:30:36Not yet, but I'll fund it myself.
- 1:30:39I have committed more to
- 1:30:41this than I am to the regular games.
- 1:30:47Let's help Scott get to the Masters games.
- 1:30:52Yeah.
- 1:30:55Uh, masters lover.
- 1:30:56Well, I just got a new label.
- 1:30:57Awesome.
- 1:31:01Is the competition Friday to
- 1:31:02Sunday for the masters or
- 1:31:04is it four days or three days?
- 1:31:05Do you have any information?
- 1:31:08I don't know.
- 1:31:09Is it, say what?
- 1:31:11Is it a three day event?
- 1:31:12Is it a four day event?
- 1:31:13Do you have any information on that?
- 1:31:15Thursday through Sunday.
- 1:31:16Okay.
- 1:31:17So four days of continuous,
- 1:31:19not no rest day.
- 1:31:21Yeah.
- 1:31:25Denise, you got that correct.
- 1:31:28I put in the request with
- 1:31:30Joe Linton from Legends by
- 1:31:33text because him and I have
- 1:31:35texted since last Legends.
- 1:31:37I put in that request.
- 1:31:39I have not heard back.
- 1:31:48Okay.
- 1:31:50I'm hoping we get check-in
- 1:31:52information back.
- 1:31:54sooner rather than later I
- 1:31:59like I need to decide when
- 1:32:01I'm getting there and if
- 1:32:02it's this age group has to
- 1:32:06be there at this time like
- 1:32:07I need to know that yeah
- 1:32:09like aaron we need to know
- 1:32:11that for we're probably
- 1:32:12driving and it's 11 hours I
- 1:32:14need to know if I need to
- 1:32:15leave at two in the morning
- 1:32:19all right kent this is the
- 1:32:20last thing I'm taking
- 1:32:22Thick Boy Tour.
- 1:32:23I'm taking this because
- 1:32:24Thick Boy is the best.
- 1:32:26He has sponsored us all at certain times.
- 1:32:29Thick Boy Tour is,
- 1:32:31Mark is the owner of Thick Boy,
- 1:32:33is one of the hardest
- 1:32:33working men in the business.
- 1:32:36And every weekend he travels to events.
- 1:32:39And he sets up his booth and
- 1:32:41he sells his wares and he
- 1:32:43just loves supporting and
- 1:32:46meeting athletes.
- 1:32:47Just loves it.
- 1:32:48And so over like the next eight weeks,
- 1:32:51I think he is at an event
- 1:32:53every weekend for the next eight weeks,
- 1:32:57all the way to the end of July.
- 1:32:59Correct.
- 1:33:00Huge.
- 1:33:00Thank you, Mark.
- 1:33:01And thank boy.
- 1:33:02Huge.
- 1:33:02Thank you.
- 1:33:03And he does this not to the big events.
- 1:33:07He does this to the
- 1:33:08mid-majors and those where
- 1:33:12those comps need his help,
- 1:33:15need him to be there.
- 1:33:17And he's there supporting them.
- 1:33:19So he does so much for the community.
- 1:33:21If he has an event near you,
- 1:33:23go check him out.
- 1:33:25Um, you, most of these events are free, uh,
- 1:33:27that are being held.
- 1:33:29You can just walk in, watch some CrossFit,
- 1:33:31check out his apparel, uh, meet Mark.
- 1:33:33He's a really cool guy.
- 1:33:35Um, and hang out with him.
- 1:33:38And I'm going to try to get
- 1:33:38to at least one of the spots, uh,
- 1:33:41to do some interviews in his booth.
- 1:33:44If I can swing it,
- 1:33:45I'm going to try to go to Metcon Rush.
- 1:33:49Uh,
- 1:33:51Because it's near Pennsylvania,
- 1:33:53and I could probably swing
- 1:33:54by my mom's house,
- 1:33:56then down there for a day,
- 1:33:58and then back up to my mom,
- 1:33:59and then back to Ohio.
- 1:34:02So I think I'm going to try that.
- 1:34:05And don't forget,
- 1:34:06we're going to be at Fresh Coast,
- 1:34:11out there on Lake Michigan,
