- 0:05Sorry, I come from a very large extended, very large family, my
- 0:12extended family, and my mother is the youngest of 13.
- 0:19You know? It was My grandparents had 13
- 0:24children. My mother was the youngest I've
- 0:27got something like just first cousins.
- 0:33You know, this isn't it. I've got like 60, 60, something
- 0:37think first cousins. A few quite a few years ago.
- 0:43I think well over a decade ago, we had a family reunions and the
- 0:49you, the reunions was just for the descendants of my
- 0:54grandparents down, my grandparents, have passed away
- 0:59my nan, we always called Nana power.
- 1:04Last name is power. Yes, she passed away when my son
- 1:11and my daughter and when they were they were both born but
- 1:13they were really little. I think she was she was in her
- 1:20late 80s, I think she was. Anyway, so my my family, my
- 1:26grandparents, my great-grandparents war is very
- 1:29heavily involved. In Christian Church, my
- 1:32great-grandparents Whoo-hoo Jack and talk to.
- 1:37Yeah. So we'll help they helped in the
- 1:40building of the what was the AOG church here in Berlin?
- 1:46My nana my memories of Nana growing up.
- 1:49She would when she when I'd go visit her when would be, you
- 1:53know, we she'd be there. Making making a pumpkin scones,
- 1:56let's say she had a Wood-Fired stove oven, you know, house and
- 2:02she'd be making pumpkin scones. But she'd always next to the
- 2:04pumpkins gone. And she'd always have her her
- 2:06Bible open, and she'd be reading the Bible as she's making
- 2:09scones. And she'd be telling us kids or
- 2:11grandkids stories about her childhood about her.
- 2:17You know, telling us stories about because she is like South
- 2:21Sea, Islander descendant. Descendants of NACA slaves.
- 2:28Telling us stories about her childhood.
- 2:30What it was, like, living up with that heritage.
- 2:35Also relating things back to God and the Bible and how.
- 2:40Now now she serve God now her life was you know, that was her
- 2:47life, she realized that God of the Bible was the answer, it
- 2:53wasn't, it wasn't the culture that she'd seen when she was
- 2:59younger, when she was little it wasn't the the things that they
- 3:02brought over. Whoo-hoo ancestors had brought
- 3:05over from the islands, the culture from the islands, it
- 3:08wasn't that culture. It wasn't some of those black
- 3:12magic beliefs cultures things that they did.
- 3:17She realized her and obviously her husband my granddad and her
- 3:22parents knew that the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 3:26This was this was the way this was the truth and they'd they'd
- 3:32yeah they beyond the dis. Was the way in which you should
- 3:38be serving. This was the truth in life and
- 3:44she'd walked away completely from that that Island culture in
- 3:50a way. Anyone telling me this because
- 3:53it's trying to explain this is the large This is why I have
- 3:58such a large extended family. So, a few years ago, we'd had,
- 4:02was probably over a decade. Now, we'd had this, this family
- 4:07reunions, and we'd there was several hundred of us because
- 4:12there's, like I said, my mother's the youngest of the 13.
- 4:15I've got 60 something first cousins, so there was just
- 4:19direct descendants from my grandparents are still, I think,
- 4:21well over 300. So ever since then we done every
- 4:26year or every second year around Christmas time, we done what our
- 4:29family had was together like our family.
- 4:33They call it Family Fun week or family festive week something
- 4:36like that. Everyone generally comes to
- 4:38Bone. I think it's once every second
- 4:40year they'll come to Bowen and we just have a week of just
- 4:46activities just, you know, games on the beach talking about
- 4:51stories just sharing stories from Hold hoods getting to your
- 4:55listening to some of the elders, all the other descendants of
- 4:59Nana. And Granddad, listen to her.
- 5:02What they did have, they grew up, you know, they have even
- 5:08things like car, competitions on who can cast, who can throw a
- 5:12net fishing net, the farthest and the best who has the best
- 5:15style, you know, my family's a lot of my mad fisherman, you
- 5:21know, things like that. So, sharing culture, but
- 5:26culture. That's of worth, not not talking
- 5:29about culture of Dead. Dead culture dead ancestry
- 5:37culture very in the whole the whole week.
- 5:43Also revolves a lot around around Christian are around our
- 5:49Christian upbringing and reflecting on how this is what
- 5:54their grandparents taught us. This is what our parents have
- 5:57taught us. And, you know, trying to remind,
- 6:02right? Remind the generations that That
- 6:07the we have a, we have a Heritage, we have such a strong
- 6:11Heritage that believes that has such a strong work ethic and is
- 6:15also respected in the communities that we live in
- 6:20because because we, because we have a, because we do have such
- 6:25a strong work ethic, but because we have good morals.
- 6:28And this has been instilled in us because of the Christian
- 6:32values that our grandparents and great-grandparents and killed in
- 6:36there in those Generations. And anyway, I was reflecting on
- 6:42some of these things and I was reflecting on one of the last
- 6:44ones that we'd are one of the last festive fun weeks that we'd
- 6:49had. And at the end of these fun
- 6:51week, we generally do a concert now.
- 6:53Nearly everyone in my family, sings plays the guitar.
- 6:58Plays an instrument of some sort.
- 7:00And it was just last week, I think I was thinking about about
- 7:05one, my cousin's daughter, she'd gotten up with her husband,
- 7:09they'd got nothing. They sing this song A couple of
- 7:14songs of leaving. It was a really nice worship
- 7:16song, Christian worship song. And and then she she was telling
- 7:20us the whole family at this concert how you know, her
- 7:23husband were going way. They were going to be studying
- 7:26to do youth work and Aunty Christian Ministry to become
- 7:31husband will become a pastor or something.
- 7:32So, you know, they'll both going into this Christian, Ministry to
- 7:37go and serve. And I was just thinking about
- 7:41her. And last week was last week of
- 7:44the week before, I was just thinking about these family
- 7:46festive times and I thinking about her and what she's telling
- 7:49us and thinking and I was so awesome that my grandparents who
- 7:54great-grandparents. Yeah, we can Help pay out.
- 8:00They would be I suppose a out who grandfather be one?
- 8:03Who's my uncle? Her father, my cousin how proud
- 8:06he would be to see that this next Generation going along,
- 8:10still serving, God not just serving God but also going out
- 8:14into the community and and saying, well here my God, what
- 8:18can I do? I want to serve my community.
- 8:20I want to help the young people, her and her husband, nice guy.
- 8:26So I was just thinking about at them the other week and
- 8:29wondering how they were going and thinking there's such a good
- 8:32thing seeing that other generation go long and there's
- 8:35others in the family to who I know are doing good work within
- 8:39their communities, still serving God in their, in their own way
- 8:43and You know, and I think it's a I think it's any, I would be
- 8:52lost for words today. Anyway.
- 8:55So I fairly yesterday that this, this young girl, who was the
- 9:00daughter of my, my first cousins that she was killed in the car
- 9:04accident with the 13 year old boy, who stole you stole that
- 9:09Mercedes in Mirror bar. So obviously the
- 9:12thirteen-year-old steals car he goes on a bit of a wild Rampage.
- 9:18Rams, another car kills a nurse 52 year old nurse.
- 9:24I think it was kills a think of 17 year old girl and killed
- 9:31Mike. My cousin's daughter.
- 9:35So I found that out yesterday. I was thinking You know, sort of
- 9:42being devastated. And I think I can't, I can't
- 9:45comprehend. How am I?
- 9:48My cousin feels for losing his daughter.
- 9:51My uncle feels for losing his granddaughter how her husband
- 9:55feels and their two young children and But you know what
- 10:05I'm saying? All this this morning Today's
- 10:10Tuesday, the the second just happens to be my daughter's
- 10:15birthday today. I sent her a message video
- 10:18message just making sure she knew just how much I loved her
- 10:23and how much I missed her. And in the reason why I'm saying
- 10:27all this today and I'm not I had did have a thought ugh, I tried
- 10:32already plot out what I wanted to say.
- 10:34The thoughts was trying to reflect without getting too
- 10:36carried away. But what I'd really like people
- 10:42to remember is that you know, our actions Always the cause and
- 10:49effect of the things that we go out and do in their everyday
- 10:51lives. We had a young girl, a young
- 10:54lady, sorry with, you know, a young husband, very young family
- 10:59that were going out trying to affect the lives of others, with
- 11:05their, with their youth work with their Christian Ministry,
- 11:09trying to serve their Community, trying to show the love of God.
- 11:15To the community. Yeah, it had a nurse working
- 11:20within a community who've, you know, nurses by default.
- 11:23I suppose tend to show generally tend to show a lot of compassion
- 11:27and love because they are, they're helping people just in
- 11:30their work. I was thinking about this young
- 11:34girl, this young lady and her husband and her life being taken
- 11:38so, thoughts lie. So such a reckless manner.
- 11:43I was thinking, you know this this young kid is gone out and
- 11:45thinking, well, I'm going to go and steal a car 13 years old.
- 11:49No, you're still a car so pointless and yet he doesn't I
- 11:54bet you that no point. Did he ever reflect on what his
- 11:57actions? How they might affect the lives
- 12:00of others? And it's too late to go back.
- 12:04Now lives lives have been lost. He is going to pay a price a
- 12:09person. I'm not sure.
- 12:10It's not sure. It's going to be high enough.
- 12:13He's only 13 Hill and he is only a certain amount of time.
- 12:16He can be held as he's so young. Held in jail on me.
- 12:33Lucas, I struggled to think about.
- 12:35I struggle to do this, this podcast, I didn't want to, I
- 12:38don't want to say anything that's Will be disrespectful to
- 12:44my family members cousin and his family.
- 12:51The husband of the young lady that was killed, but all all the
- 12:59one to say is we all go out in our lives and we we make
- 13:05decisions along the way. And if there's any young people
- 13:09that listen to this podcast, I don't know.
- 13:12And you're thinking of doing silly things because, I mean, I
- 13:14know, I did some absolutely things when I was a kid in the
- 13:19only bought the grace of God. I believe that I did not hurt
- 13:23someone or seriously hurt myself or die.
- 13:28Give some thought to your actions before you do them.
- 13:37And how they can affect other people how they can affect your
- 13:39life. Do you really want to be sitting
- 13:42in agile? The 20 years.
- 13:47Because you've stolen a vehicle and killed other people by
- 13:51accident. Because you want to go for a
- 13:52joyride in a vehicle that wasn't even yours. some things that we
- 13:58think is just me having some fun for for an hour, being a bit of
- 14:03a, being a bit of a prick to the police because, you know, Screw
- 14:07the police That's not giving any thought.
- 14:15To the consequences. but I think, looking at the bigger
- 14:22picture, this is what happens when you have a nation that
- 14:26pushes God aside I come from a family where my great
- 14:32grandparents my grandparents embraced God embraced Biblical
- 14:38teaching. They knew that they were
- 14:42Children of God, and they served the Lord Jesus Christ, and they
- 14:46prayed for their family and for their families family.
- 14:52They prayed for the generations to come and I'm both.
- 14:55I believe that, you know, three, four generations later.
- 15:00We still see the benefits. All those grandparents and
- 15:06great, grandparents praying. Praying for Generations.
- 15:12But I believe also that this nation is seeing such a
- 15:16skyrocketing skyrocketing in youth crime.
- 15:22Because we have a nation. We have politicians that decide
- 15:26that we need to push. God aside, we need to push
- 15:28Biblical teaching aside the we can make decisions, you know,
- 15:32we're better off without God. We're better off without the
- 15:38family unit. That's described in the Bible.
- 15:42That we can we can decide all these things.
- 15:45We're better off doing these things on our own.
- 15:48This is what happens, I believe. When you push God aside.
- 15:55You deny God. Anyway.
- 16:05I got nothing more to say. Feel a little bit little bit
- 16:10heartbroken today, very heartbroken for my cousin and
- 16:14his family but in all them. Anyway.
- 16:21Peace, be to you and yours be blessed.
- 16:26So, I'll finish with this. Number six says the Lord bless
- 16:32you and keep you the Lord. Make his face shine upon you and
- 16:37be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance
- 16:41upon you and give you peace. Thanks for listening.
