- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody, welcome to Cheesy Popcorn.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: This is episode number 45.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Chris Miles, co-host of the show, and sitting across for me, and interestingly enough, not echoing me.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_02]: Not echoing you.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, that's the first.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: So who are you?
- 0:32[SPEAKER_02]: Could I have made of our, and I'm the co-host of the show with Chris, who already said he was a co-host of the show.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_02]: So it's a little bit redundant, but we wanna make sure people get that right.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: there you go.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: So welcome to cheesy popcorn.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: We basically kind of focus mostly on media, TV, movies, every now and then we'll probably talk about some other pop culture type of thing or whatever.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_02]: But for right now, we talk about streaming a little bit if you want to make that another category.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of in the media category.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know, but we do movies TV, which is everybody thinks is like ABC NBC, and now we have HBO and all the other streaming.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe maybe people from your generation think that, but streaming services include TV and movies.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that is, people from the nation, sir.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: Good thing that we're not in paid.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll be talking to each other after the show.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, I'm HR, nice to meet you.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_02]: lady name and HR is Helen wait.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_02]: So if you go to hell and wait, that's where you're going to be.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: So on the show, what we do is we talk about the movies that are coming out this weekend.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: We'll review a movie and then we'll have like a main topic to talk about this week.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: That main topic is going to be our favorite comedy TV shows of all time.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: The movie we're reviewing is the Odyssey, yes, for as long as it was.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: And then we're going to jump right in and talk about what movies are coming out this weekend.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, normally what we do is we don't talk about limited releases, just because we don't want to make somebody in the audience feel like, oh, I can't see that movie because I don't live in a big city.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: Unfortunately, when an Amsterdam, we might be listening.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure say doubt that somebody in Amsterdam right now is listening because if we if we do the time that this comes out Which is like 12 in the afternoon on a Thursday Then like I think it's like 12 at night there or something like that if a thickest dream at any time You're absolutely right, but but don't most we just ask if anybody in Amsterdam is listening please make a comment Yes, exactly, but not unspotify not unspotify.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, apple apple, right
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: or YouTube or YouTube well no it's not on YouTube and yeah so anyway now that we've diverted from the topic let's talk about what's coming out this weekend a movie called Motor City it's available in limited release and that's kind of why I said before what I said about how we don't usually talk about limited release stuff
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: But it will be in certain theaters.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's basically like a 70s action revenge thriller.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: It stars Alan Richardson.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: Shalay Woodley, Ben Foster, and then Pablo Schreiber.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: You might know Shalay Woodley form like the The Diverted movies.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I can't say the Diverted movies because the first movie was Diverted, but the other two were called something else.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: But that's kind of like the series of what it's called.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's directed by Pat C. Ken Crowley, sorry if I've put you that, and what is it about?
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's about 1977 Detroit.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: There's an Eccan army veteran who's named John Miller.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: Let's play by Alan Richardson in the basically embarks on a brutal quest for revenge against a ruthless gangster who framed him for a crime, and he stole this girlfriend.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: The movie seems interesting.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Did you watch the preview at all?
- 3:43[SPEAKER_02]: I did not.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: I saw it at the show at the theater.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well, then that means you watch the preview.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: So what do you think?
- 3:49[SPEAKER_02]: But I didn't like look up the trailer and watch the trailer again.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's fine.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: But what do you remember from what you saw?
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't look like there's a whole lot of dialogue in this movie, just a lot of action.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: And probably because it's directed by a guy named Potzi, which is from it's Potzi.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's Potzi.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, okay.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: And it's probably see from happy days.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I didn't know that he was directing now, but that's good for him.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: So if you like an action film, which is when it's got a lot of action, I like action movies.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: I like movies like this.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_02]: So I probably not probably,
- 4:24[SPEAKER_02]: Look, that should be the one we review for next week.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: To today June you think, if it's around, I don't know if it's going to be released for us.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't look that far because I didn't think we were going to be able to see it because I thought more so we'd probably either watch 72 hours or the drink, which are two movies that are coming out this weekend as well.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: Both of them in the streaming networks, as you like to call the other portion of the Netflix.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, so once on the Netflix and the other one is on the TV of Apple.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I have both.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I know.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the other reason why I thought we could do it because now that you're paying a dollar 25 for Netflix.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_02]: What's the think about?
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: Is it about pickleball?
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: uh... no that's a term in pickleball well it is about pickleball it's sort of about pickleball you're absolutely right that's kind of the other reason why i thought we were going to review this movie so that we can watch you playing pickleball in some other which by the way you're the coolest of another thing what's called canacallied ad right canacallied ad pickleball episode in that too right yes yeah so you can watch that too
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, since since we skipped over 72 hours, let's go to the Dink, right?
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to be on Apple TV.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's a sports comedy.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: Jake Johnson stars in it.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: Mary, Mary, steambird 83% rotten tomatoes.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Ed Harris, how could have a review already when it's not even out?
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's what it says.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just reading what it says, Chris.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: It says out.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be ready to, which means those are people who saw it beforehand.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not necessarily your everyday audience, which is who listens to the show.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: OK.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, Pat me only really small right now.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: No, you're small and general compared to me, so I'm 6-1, you're what?
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: 5, what?
- 6:07[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's a tennis guy who's gonna raise pick which is what he can't even ask to the question.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: He's got his ship that had to something else because he knows he's smaller than me.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: Ed Harris is in a patinized wall, Ben Siller, Andy Radick, John Mac and Roll.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: Uh huh.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: Keep going.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: Go on because you miss.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I don't care.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: I really, we can review it but I, I, I'm not a big fan of tennis players going into pickleball because they don't really play it right.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, here we go.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: And they make a lot of money.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: more than the actual pickable throw that let me go get the soap box there's no soap box I'm just telling you like it is because you're soap boxing no I'm telling the truth though okay make a real gets a million dollar purse to play a game that he doesn't really know when the guys that are killing themselves practice in every day and actually playing are getting 50 grand producer can you grab some clean-up police we need some tissue over here stat okay
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: So we're gonna.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, that's shut you up.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: No, I just figured you'd want to do it because it's talking about pickable.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're gonna get on your soapbox and be well with with with the whiny quimy about how the professional's get into it and and who don't even play pickable, they play tennis and then they get into it and they steal your thunder.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: No, they're gonna talk about the Trump guy who steals your thunder all the time too on the court now, too.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: What Trump guy the guy that you don't like playing pickle ball against you guys under I beat him every day But he pisses you off at the same doesn't piss me off.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, you learn how to curb your enthusiasm on that I I know how to control my anger Chris unlike somebody I know oh who keep be raiding an old guy Senior abuse 1800
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's the old guy.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: So we're going to do the thing.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_01]: You said you didn't want to.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: So now, no, we got your tissue and everything.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: You're all good to go.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: So 72 hours is the next movie that we're going to talk about that's coming out this weekend.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's streaming enough.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: Tiana Taylor, Mike Eps and Andy Garcia, one of your favorite actors.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_02]: I do like Andy, yeah, directed by Tim Story.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: So Kevin Hart plays this guy named Joe.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: He's like a 40 something advertising executive, and of course his careers on the skids, of course it has to be because there'd be no comedy if it wasn't, right?
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: True.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: He's accidentally added to a Gen Z group chat that basically plans a bachelor party and he decides not to correct them.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: And steady crashes the wild three day weekend on Miami.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: Why does this sound like another movie that I've already seen?
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, to prove that he can still hang with the younger crowd and keep his career relevant.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, Miami full-blown roll all of its chaos and luxury yachts and party buses and all the run-ins with the law gets all the chaos going.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: Why does this feel like I want to be an Adam Sandler grown-up movie, but like I'm not good at it?
- 9:01[SPEAKER_02]: This sounds like an Adam Sandler produced movie, but it's not.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_02]: It may not be, but it sounds like an or Wayne Brothers, one or two.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: way and brothers could be unfortunately i don't have the producer information in front of me uh... but yet so those are the three movies motor city seventy two hours all i guess i should do them in the order that we did them seventy two hours one of the producers oh well of course that would explain the whole set up of the show or the movie does like eight producers whatever happened the one guy producing one movie because not everybody can afford it
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: So our choices are where to go.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: Motor city, the Dink or 72 hours.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: Motor city.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: Motor city.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_02]: I want to think about them.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: Then we'll talk about it a little bit.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody gives a Dink.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: And of course you do, but you were crying about a five minutes ago, but now you care.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm crying about these ex-tennis players who are who hated the game and talked it down initially.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: When Pickleball started gaining momentum, tennis players started rallying against it.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: And now they're doing these million dollar purse tournaments in Vegas with ex-tennis players.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: And meanwhile, the guys, the people of the pros, the men and women who have
- 10:16[SPEAKER_02]: are, you know, out there for 50 grand.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's just not right.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: If these tennis players really want to do this, let them go up against the actual pickleball pros and see how well they do.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: And this rant brought to you by Kleenex for when you really need to get it out.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_02]: I watched the Mac and Roe and I think it was Mac and Roe and Chen and the two other people.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm watching them like, no, and of course, my hacking world is making a row.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: He's crying over every little thing.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: And they don't understand the whole concept of the game and staying out of the non-violent zone and stuff.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's, you know, it's just they're turning it into a circus.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_02]: And it's, it's a much more of a sport than people think.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_02]: And much more takes much more talent and, um, and practice than people give it, especially tennis players.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: So that's my thing.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm done.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: Are you sure?
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: Because I forgot the soapbox this time.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: Hate me, love me.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: That's who I am.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess we've made our decisions.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to, well, you've made our decisions.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to review Motor City next week.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: Motor will review the Dink.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: That actually looks pretty good.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: Motor City.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: I was kind of on the fence where that it just kind of looks like another boring action movie that doesn't belong in a summer blockbuster.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's you.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: I know, I'm interested to see what's going to happen next though because we're going to refuse to muggle.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know how much relevance we can do.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: 75% of the world's populist doesn't like Mr. McGoo.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_02]: I beg to differ.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, really?
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: So where's your stack?
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and while you're looking it up because you always bring up Mr. McGoo, you should have these memorized if it's your favorite movie of all time.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: But you don't.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, let's move on.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't say it was my favorite.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: I said it's one of my favorites.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: But you always bring it up.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's always your defense to when I say something that you don't like.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: You always have to go to how I didn't, how I don't like Mr. McGoo.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: And there are a million people out there who would agree with me that it wasn't all that.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm wondering if there's going to be people out there that are going to agree or disagree with you and I about the Odyssey because we both want to go see that this weekend.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately neither one of us saw it in IMAX.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: So we're probably going to be missing a few things because we don't have that capacity to be able to see it in that genre or in that setup.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: had none to do with the capacity had to do with the cost for me it had everything to do with capacity was sold out everywhere I went to go look for it was sold out but even if it wasn't sold out it was 25 bucks just to walk through the door oh my god get him another thing that should come with free popcorn oh my god another good and someone given you a back rub oh jeez
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: And something else to it the same time.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: No, you need more reflex.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, so Christopher Nolan is the one who the out of sex.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: Well, but Sounds like it was the out of sex for you.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you got to take your mind out of the gutters.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: My mind wasn't in the gutter.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: You were the one that was gone there.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: No, you First because you clearly on a ramp now.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: No, you go first.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't even go first.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'm curious to hear what you say
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think we might be, I don't know, I think we're close enough.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: I seriously doubt it because it's Christopher Nolan and the Odyssey.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: So here's the thing, there isn't anything that he touches that isn't good, unfortunately.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: And that's sad because while Oppenheimer was a fairly interesting movie, I don't feel like in certain areas it hit the mark for me, and I felt like it was way too long.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_01]: And it seems like Mr. Nolan is starting to do more movies that are going to be way too long.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: The interesting thing about this though, and this is somewhat of a spoiler alert, but if you are a purist, or a traditionalist, or somebody who believes that the original content should be displayed in all of its glory, when it comes to telling the story of such a classic novel, set of poems, you are going to be in for a world of hurt.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: Because, unfortunately, this is not stick true to the vast majority of the original material.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: It actually takes bits and pieces from a bunch of different things.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: And it's got more of a modern take on this classic novel, which basically is the story that tells about how Odysseus survived the ten years after.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: the Trojan War.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a lot of things in this movie that if you read the book like I did in high school because it was most of us I think in the region you have to read it in high school or was it just not out yet?
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody can hear you.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: I read it in college.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: You read it in college?
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: So that was what like three years after the book was actually written?
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: Something like that.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: Actually, about four years after the actual events.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, okay.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_01]: So there we go.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_02]: It was morning at 1,300.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that clearly.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: But it's, well, I guess it's the first feature from ever shot entirely on IMAX 70 millimeter cameras.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: So there's that.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why everybody says you need to see it and IMAX.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: But I didn't get to change to see it and IMAX.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know if I'd go back and see it in IMAX.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know if I have the capacity for it.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, I just become to realize that if a movie is more than two and a half hours long, it's probably a little too long for me.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's composed, of course, by Ludwood Guranison, who is...
- 15:26[SPEAKER_01]: probably one of this century's greatest composers just some of his greatest works appear in a lot of films and I know I'm butchering his last name when I apologize for that.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's interesting to accept that no we'll see it's got an interesting cast of characters which actually led to I think a lot of the either positive or negative publicity whichever way you want to look at it for the film.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: Matt Damon in the title role of Odysseus, which some people have said like they didn't think he was going to be able to hold his weight.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like he did some decent research.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like he was actually really good.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: Surprisingly, because usually it's just like with Tom Cruise, you just see a lot of Tom Cruise.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like in Benson places you got to see Matt Damon, but in other places I felt like it was really Odysseus.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: Anne Hathaway, of course, says Penelope, his wife, Tom Holland, telemicus, which is his son, which is interesting in other words, other areas that's my nickname, by the way, in certain areas.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_01]: Zendaya as Athena, Robert Patterson, as Antimius, Charlize Therron as Cirque, Lupita, and I don't know how to say this last name, Nyong, is in the dual role of Helen of Troy, and also Slamenstra, Clementsstra.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: I know I put you that too.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_01]: And John Bernthal, as King Malayas, Benny Sefeed, as I'm again.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: I know I said that wrong too, but there's one person that I thought was interesting.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: John Leck was Amo.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think he was going to be that good in this, and he actually was.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: Now he wasn't on the screen for a very long time.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of these actors aren't.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: But I was pleasantly surprised by him.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: The movie is great as far as the theatrics and cinematics and all that kind of stuff are concerned.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: It just felt like, honestly, it felt like somebody was trying to make a statement about so many modern day things by using such an old tail.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: That I was kind of like, okay, what are you trying to do a curse for are you are you showing us a different side of yourself like you didn't in in Why am I blanking on the last movie that he did?
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: Can you help me with that Nolan?
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: But we just, up in Imer.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: Imer.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like, did you notice that an up in Imer?
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: Where I felt like he was making some personal statements, like, got a little bit behind the mask, so to speak.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that's more of what happened here as well, too.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: I guess my problem with this is I went into it and I was kind of hoping that we were going to get less of that and more of like what the story at least one version of the story was.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: Not saying that there was anything wrong with it.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: I realized we're in a different time period.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: I realized there's different mind frames and everything out there, but some of the stuff that happened didn't actually happen.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: and like the whole point of this move or the whole reason why the Trojan War started was because of the beauty of Helen and Helen's now a twin.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: So that kind of takes away from it as well too.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway as far as the release concern, I'd give it like a probably a seven and a half.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to go see it again and not just because it was long but just because some parts of it I just kind of went so what is the point of this?
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like you've taken what this
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know if that really does anything for what the piece was for versus trying to make a political statement or any other statement now in this area.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: And there's people who are going to hate me for it.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like if you're going to make a movie.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: And you're going to make it like some sort of adaptation then it should be like Christopher Nolan's the Odyssey is what it should be thought should have been titled right I don't feel like it should have been titled the Odyssey It should have been like Christopher Nolan's the Odyssey, you know, it's instead of like Homer's Iliad, right, which which is something totally different but Homer wrote this as well as Iliad so anyway, I don't know it just just me
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: thoughts, comments, concerns.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: Are you done?
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: I am.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: You gave us seven?
- 19:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_02]: Hang on, we got some of how I had my audio on my notes and everything you just said got typed into my notes and so I got to get rid of a couple things.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_02]: You're just giving me a moment here please.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'll give you a moment and I'll give you a little bit of like a set up of the movie.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: Because most people probably know what this is about.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: It takes place after the fall of Troy and Odysseus, the reason why it's called the Odyssey is because Odysseus is spending 10 years of tempting to return home from his to his kingdom of Ithaca So the poems itself set out what happened during this particular moment of his life.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: Are you good now?
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: Do we get enough time?
- 20:28[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_02]: So
- 20:31[SPEAKER_02]: Here's my problem, we said the, I've said this a million times.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_02]: I love period pieces, I love period pieces, but I'm also,
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: a particular for authenticity in a period piece, whether it's costumes, sets, especially language.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: And here's my first problem.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: Minutes into the movie.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_02]: Minutes into the movie.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_02]: The Tom Holland character is in a bar and he's talking to another character, not a real important one, I don't think,
- 21:10[SPEAKER_02]: And he says something about Tom Holland's father, who is the main character in the Odyssey, played by Matt Damon, and Tom Holland says to him, did you know my dad?
- 21:27[SPEAKER_02]: And the problem is the word dad didn't come out to the 1600.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: This is said in 1200 BC, a few minutes later, they cut to Matt Damon and the rest of the guys on the beach after their time after the war.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously you want to go home and Matt Damon says, and I produce our engines going to have to believe this.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get off this beach.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_02]: That word didn't come out to the 19th century.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: Later on in the movie, there's a scene where they're in a lady's house who turns out to be a witch and One of the soldiers says to try to calm her down said not knowing she's a witch says You're gonna be okay And that's another word and I throw this all on Nolan
- 22:20[SPEAKER_02]: He should have known.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: They should have researched this and found out that none of those words should have been in this.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: And there's there are other moments too, but those are the three that really stood out to me.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, folks, no webster is in the audience.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_01]: Just now, it's not in the audience as joined us.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for the,
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: The words the words such information there.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_02]: I heard the words.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: I immediately wrote them down because I wanted to remember them and I looked them up Just to make sure that those words weren't maybe they were being used in 1200 BC Didn't seem like it, but and they weren't so I was right
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: And I throw that on the director.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: That's a that's a no-lint thing.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_02]: He went through the script Someone should have said hey these words weren't used back then But nowadays that doesn't seem you know when they do these period pieces now They don't seem to be concerned with that and I'm like why not?
- 23:11[SPEAKER_02]: authenticity.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: You and I have talked a lot about continuity.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: Those are important things.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: Cut, notice, especially if you're showing a movie like this.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: And the continuity in this movie was terrible.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it was.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_02]: Here's my take slow, slow as hell.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_02]: boring.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_02]: It was all over the place.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's why it was the last three hours left.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: The casting to me did not work.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_02]: Matt Damon, as I summarized early on, did not play the real well.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_02]: Sunday at work.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: She was hardly in it.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_02]: And had to wait.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: Hardly in it.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: The Trojan Horse, I went back and researched this, was not dragged from the ocean.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: The Trojan Horse was left at the gates, and they wheeled it in, thinking that it was some sort of a surrender gift.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_02]: That's the storyline.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_02]: I just, there's so much in this that's so ridiculous.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I mentioned a $25, so making people go see this in IMAX and saying that there's going to be a huge difference, which really wasn't a huge difference in my opinion.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's crazy.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_02]: I nicknamed it ID Sleepy that I'm out of C. It's ID Sleepy.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: And I would give it a five.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: Is that the like is that the Greek version of the word or something version of Odyssey is that like going to sleep That's this going in and like order rise and then saying you a glee click.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, okay, and and Here's one other rant.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: I saw it at the theater.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_02]: I won't
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: won't mention the theater, but the movie started out fine.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_02]: It was a regular theater.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't an eye mix.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: And the screen, you know, filled the screen, you know, people were saying that you miss a top in the bottom a little bit.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_02]: If you didn't see the eye mix, and I don't know.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know that missed that much, but about
- 25:01[SPEAKER_02]: maybe 45 minutes to an hour in to this three hour movie.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_02]: Something had with the projector where the top part of the screen was blank.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_02]: The projector like tilted down and a little to the left.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_02]: And I want to told the theater people and they tried to tell me that that's how the movie is.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I said, no, it's not.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_02]: And so I literally, well, first of all, I was bored anyway.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to leave.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_02]: But that issue with the projection is, like, made the decision that I was going to leave for two reasons.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_02]: The movie was low, long, boring, unauthentic.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_02]: And then the issue with the projection, I went out and I said, hey, I can't, I told you guys twice about this.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_02]: This is what I did for a living for 38 years, video production.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_02]: I know it's not supposed to be like this.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: It didn't start like this.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: So shouldn't be like this.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_02]: So I need my money back.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_02]: So I got my six dollars back.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: instead of 25, by the way, and I left the theater, but now before getting to refill on the popcorn, just so people know that it's still me.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, I don't think this was a good telling of the story.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's a great story.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's a great poem.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: This didn't do it.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_02]: This was a miss for me.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_02]: Big miss.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: Again, authenticity and incomplete review because you didn't see it all the way to the end.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: No, but I'm guessing that it kept going the same way and I don't think maybe they would have more words that didn't belong.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_02]: You might have known if you got home or not, too.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_02]: I'm thinking somewhere near the end, they might have started throwing in some of Snoop Dogg's words, because chism.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_02]: This boat is chism.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_02]: There were three words that didn't belong in this movie and you know I'm a I'm a stickler for that Chris you know that Yes, and so does the rest of the audience not that they've listened to your review of the Odyssey Listen you gotta if you're gonna do a movie like this you gotta be authentic.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry You have to be so you gave it a five
- 27:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'm being generous.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_02]: You're gonna do five being generous.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: So you gave it a five and I gave it a seven and a half.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's a look at.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know what?
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm entitled to be wrong just as much as you are.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_02]: Not really, but okay.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_02]: Always got a future on horn.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's the only horn I have.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: Well, then there you go.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: I can't do your horn.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: Please don't.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: God's sake, that would be, oh, I can't even fathom that.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_00]: But you can say it, so it's okay.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_02]: So that's take care of that.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: Now move on to comedies.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: Now keep in mind folks that we did not see it.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm actually so clearly remiss things as everybody likes to say much at all.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you missed the whole, what happened?
- 27:50[SPEAKER_02]: I know, right?
- 27:51[SPEAKER_02]: Because you walked out.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_02]: I miss it.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a little over an hour.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: I watched over two hours of it and I was done.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_01]: I was I knew it wasn't going to be my kind of well let's let's move on to a different topic give me some of what are your favorite comedy TV shows of a get three All right, what are they and nobody will tap this I love Lucy
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going back.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: Are you going to expand on it?
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: Are you just going to mention it?
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: I let Lucy was just a show ahead of its time.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: Where ahead of its time?
- 28:18[SPEAKER_02]: Time.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_02]: Ricky Ricardo never got the credit that he should have gotten for the innovations that he brought to that show and to television for decades to come.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_02]: Never got that recognition.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_02]: Lucy was
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: Incredible, set it out as a zig-field girl, chorus girl, and turn her career into, I mean, everybody wants to be Lucy.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_02]: No one wants to be Ricky, sadly.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_02]: But Ricky was a brilliant, brilliant man.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_02]: And he really made that show.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_02]: And if you go watch this show, watch him now, you'll laugh.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_02]: This is 50, 60 years later, you're still laughing.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_02]: The second one is Barney Miller, so I'm bringing it up more modern.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_02]: Barney Miller was a fantastic show that with a lot of really important social topics in a funny way.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_02]: From the 60s to the late 70s.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, to point in.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_02]: very poignant uh... show uh... you know again i told you last time i talked about this lot of my friends were police officers say that with the most realistic police drama police show on tv and the last one i i i i'm never gonna waver from this is phrasia phrasia was one of the best well best written shows
- 29:33[SPEAKER_02]: ever on television for a comedy and i'm looking at the producer you only ten bucks now because i told you he was gonna pick frasor as one of his favorite comedy shows he should know that well he didn't he bet me ten bucks that you weren't gonna say frasor was it was a such a well written show there you go uh and again date that with topics two that were socially sort of controversial but important to deal with and they did it in a beautiful way so those are my three and your three
- 30:02[SPEAKER_02]: to go ahead.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but they're a little better than yours.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: They're actually more modern actual and they're more, they're more, first I haven't seen Ted Lasso, so I can't say anything about it.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: No, because you start watching it like you said you were going to?
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: I did.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: I like it.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: I like it.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's great.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: But I like it.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to go way back, way back, and I'm actually going to go to the Flintstones.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: Because the Flintstones for me started it all.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I realized it's a cartoon But it was a funny cartoon and growing up as a kid that was what I was able to watch when I came home from school Along with like the courtship of Eddie's father.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I did Then how did you watch all these programs that you laid out my later years.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I'm watching them I'm a TV
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: Can we get another bullshit clean-ups please because it's it's getting thick in here.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you It's not him.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's a shit.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, thanks.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: I appreciate that all right here There's your bullshit clean-ups.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you Much less attention.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: How about how about you just put the clean-ups in your mouth?
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_01]: I want to comment on that Yeah, go ahead Discrimination it's called close your mouth with somebody else's talking
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: Family ties.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's my next pick.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you're not a great television.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I don't, I don't comment when you make your stuff, but you're going to comment every time.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't make, I don't go, oh, people can't see the faces you're making.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: They don't need to see the faces I'm making.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_01]: And then last but not least, and this is just subtle to satisfy the nerd in me, the big bang theory.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: Oh no comment there you actually agree with that one maybe or you're just holding your tongue like a big bank there.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_02]: Well that had a crazier for me, but it's a good show.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: You like the big bang theory because of Penny.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: We all know that.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: I like the big bang.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: Huh?
- 31:45[SPEAKER_02]: I like the title.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: No, of course you're a big bang.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: Too bad it's never happened before.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway,
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: So that's well, well twice twice.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's gonna say you're sure about that.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: And then I got two more honorable mentions are gonna go to KRP WKRP You said three I didn't say three you're the one who wants to limit yourself.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: You can perfectly fine WKRP and Cincinnati because you know It's raining cats and dogs and then there's and and actually the best line in any TV show.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's raining frozen turkeys
- 32:13[SPEAKER_02]: No, that's not the best line.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody has to line it.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody has to.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: No, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not, not
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: but you got a chime in with mine.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to chime in with yours.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: I love Lucy.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: Barney Miller, really?
- 32:46[SPEAKER_01]: That was probably the most boring TV show when I was a kid, Frazier.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_01]: I will agree with you on.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's actually witty.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually funny, but that's because the character Frazier is a funny, witty, individual.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: I love Lucy, it's just like, honey mourners was better than I love Lucy, but anyway, oh, I knew that was going to get him.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_01]: I knew it was going to get him, and that's exactly why I said it.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what?
- 33:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to do it for the show as well, folks.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for listening.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: And enjoying the show.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for making us the number one podcast on the rise network.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: We totally appreciate that.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: Tino.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much.

- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: You're welcome on the show anytime.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for letting us come on.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: And thank you.

- 33:55[SPEAKER_02]: It was a lot of action.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_01]: Our producer is over here making like these stupid Spider-Man gestures.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm supposed to like plug Spider-Man or whatever.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like it's going to be a movie we're going to talk about next week.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_02]: Seriously, really?
- 34:06[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't come out next week.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: Really, seriously, you don't know that it comes out the last weekend in July, which would be next week.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_02]: That would be the move.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: Right, as one of the movies that's coming out next week.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: Right, but we can also use, so here's what you don't understand.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: The way that social media works is you've got to throw in tags sometimes so you can take stuff and put it into other videos and use it as a way to promote the show.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: Right, yeah.
