- 0:00Speaker 1: I am Sherri Mackie and it's time for us to
- 0:02Speaker 1: go to God in prayer. And as always, I invite
- 0:05Speaker 1: you to join along with me in prayer today. I
- 0:08Speaker 1: just want to pray about us just having compassion and
- 0:12Speaker 1: patience with people. Y'all don't know what people going through.
- 0:15Speaker 1: So I want to pray that God would just. allow
- 0:18Speaker 1: us to have some compassion. Heavenly Father, today we ask
- 0:21Speaker 1: you to work on our hearts.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Lord, help us to be kind. Help us to be compassionate.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Help us to be patient and sensitive to the needs
- 0:29Speaker 1: of others. Teach us to slow down long enough to
- 0:32Speaker 1: recognize that everyone we encounter is carrying a story we
- 0:35Speaker 1: may never know about. Father, your word tells us to
- 0:39Speaker 1: be kind and compassionate toward one another. Help us to
- 0:42Speaker 1: live that out, not just when it's convenient or when
- 0:46Speaker 1: somebody's watching or when we're in church, but especially when
- 0:49Speaker 1: someone's behavior challenges us.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Lord, remind us.
- 0:54Speaker 1: That we never know what a person is dealing with.
- 0:56Speaker 1: The person who seems distant may be just hurting. The
- 1:00Speaker 1: person who seems angry may be grieving. The person who
- 1:03Speaker 1: is quiet may be just overwhelmed. The person who's difficult
- 1:07Speaker 1: to understand may be fighting a battle they don't know
- 1:10Speaker 1: how to explain.
- 1:12Speaker 2: And sometimes, Father, the person who.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Needs the most grace may be the person who knows
- 1:17Speaker 1: the least about how to ask for it. Before we judge,
- 1:22Speaker 1: help us to understand. Before we criticize, help us to pray.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Before we react, help us to pause. And before we
- 1:28Speaker 1: speak words that could wound somebody, put a guard over
- 1:32Speaker 1: our mouths. Give us wisdom to know when someone needs
- 1:36Speaker 1: correction and when they simply need compassion. Father, help us
- 1:41Speaker 1: to remember that kindness costs so little, but it can
- 1:44Speaker 1: mean everything to someone who's struggling. Let our words bring
- 1:48Speaker 1: life instead of discouragement. Let our presence bring peace instead
- 1:51Speaker 1: of tension. Let our attitude reflect your love. Lord, help
- 1:55Speaker 1: us to become more sensitive to the needs that aren't
- 1:58Speaker 1: being spoken. Give us discernment to recognize the person who
- 2:02Speaker 1: needs encouragement, the person who needs a listening ear, the
- 2:05Speaker 1: person who needs a helping hand, the person who simply
- 2:09Speaker 1: needs someone to remind them that they're not alone. And Father,
- 2:13Speaker 1: when we're the one who's tired, When we're the ones
- 2:17Speaker 1: who are frustrated, when we're the ones that are hurting,
- 2:19Speaker 1: help us to remember that other people are carrying battles too.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Don't allow our pain to become an excuse to hurt
- 2:26Speaker 1: somebody else.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Teach us to handle people.
- 2:29Speaker 1: With care because everyone is fighting a battle we can't see. Lord,
- 2:34Speaker 1: help us to stop assuming and we know the whole story.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Help us to give people room to be human.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Help us to extend the same grace to others that
- 2:42Speaker 1: we've needed so many times in our own lives.
- 2:46Speaker 2: So today, God, we declare we will be people of grace.
- 2:49Speaker 2: We will be patient. We will be kind. We will listen.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Before we speak. We will pray before we judge. We
- 2:54Speaker 1: will encourage instead of tear down. We will forgive instead
- 2:57Speaker 1: of hold grudges. We will handle people with care. Father,
- 3:01Speaker 1: let somebody encounter your love because they encountered us. Let
- 3:04Speaker 1: somebody's burden feel lighter because we offer kindness. Let somebody's
- 3:08Speaker 1: hope return because we chose compassion instead of condemnation. And
- 3:12Speaker 1: when we don't know what to say, teach us that
- 3:14Speaker 1: sometimes the greatest ministry is to simply be present, listen,
- 3:19Speaker 1: and love. Lord, make our hearts tender toward people. Remove harshness, impatience, pride,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and judgment. Give us eyes to see beyond behavior and
- 3:29Speaker 1: recognize the human behind it. God, let our lives reflect
- 3:33Speaker 1: the heart of Jesus, the one who saw hurting people,
- 3:37Speaker 1: had compassion on them, and met them with grace.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Thank you for being patient with us, God. Thank you
- 3:42Speaker 2: for being kind to us, God.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Thank you for loving us through the battles nobody else
- 3:46Speaker 1: knew about. Now, Lord, help us extend that same love
- 3:49Speaker 1: to somebody else in the wonderful, gracious, loving name of Jesus.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Amen, amen, and amen.
