- 0:11Hello friends, it's shown here and it is.
- 0:15Yes, yes it is. It's Friday.
- 0:17It's the 28th of June. Here we are at the end of
- 0:22another week. Good on you friends, You have
- 0:24made it and we are going to celebrate the way we usually do
- 0:28not by reading some insanely epically long Psalm as we have
- 0:33been doing for the last three weeks.
- 0:35Note, we have made it through that long poem, Psalm 119 to
- 0:40find ourselves at Psalm 120, which is a whopping 7 verses
- 0:45long. Yes, these sums are not
- 0:48consistent in their length, but they are consistent in their
- 0:53voice of crying out to our God, something for everything.
- 0:58And the last three weeks we have been crying out to God,
- 1:01exclaiming and how wonderful His word is.
- 1:04And today we cry out to God asking for rescue, knowing,
- 1:10knowing that our God hears us. Ah, what a treat.
- 1:14What a treat at the end of the week.
- 1:17So we are going to settle in, and this is not a long one, but
- 1:20we will hear every one of these verses and squeeze all the
- 1:24goodness we can out of them. They're edited to do that.
- 1:27Me too. This is a song for pilgrims
- 1:32ascending to Jerusalem. So put on your backpacks, look
- 1:36up that hill toward Jerusalem, and let us walk up together,
- 1:41singing, reciting, reading some 120.
- 1:57I took my troubles to the Lord, I cried out to Him, and He
- 2:02answered my prayer. Rescue me, O Lord, from liars
- 2:08and from all deceitful people. Old deceptive tongue, What will
- 2:14God do to you? How will he increase your
- 2:17punishment? You will be pierced with sharp
- 2:21arrows and burned with glowing coals.
- 2:25How I suffer in far off Mashek. It pains me to live in distant
- 2:31Kedah. I'm tired of living among people
- 2:35who hate peace. I search for peace, but when I
- 2:40speak of peace, they want war. My Lord, will you all know of
- 2:55this? Only too well places where we go
- 2:59and we attempt to speak peace, but they just want war.
- 3:04When we find ourselves surrounded by conflict and lies
- 3:08and untruths, rather than lowering ourselves to that level
- 3:11or putting up our fortification, Lord, let us like the psalmist
- 3:16does, Bring it to you. Cry out to you because you will
- 3:23answer our prayers. Thank you that in the midst of
- 3:27all the ups and downs of our lives, the thing that remains
- 3:31constant through and through is you and your presence with us
- 3:36and your ear bent toward our cry.
- 3:40So today, as things go well and things go badly, may our heart
- 3:46respond by crying out to You, our present, loving and deeply
- 3:53embedded God. Ah, thank you for being here
- 3:56with us. We love you and we praise you,
- 4:00and we pray all of this in the loving name of Jesus.
- 4:04Ah, man.
