- 0:23chickens. Hey everybody.
- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31Another one in our series of stress, we are talking about
- 0:35understanding the meaning, you assigned to things, which we've
- 0:39talked about in other podcast before, but this one is in
- 0:43relation to stress. So how we tend to look at things
- 0:47and how we make things mean, more than they actually mean, or
- 0:51because we are in a state of stress, we basically will make
- 0:56it become something bigger, where a tiny little trivial.
- 1:00Incident or something very, very small and insignificant.
- 1:04All of a sudden, turns into a giant issue, making mountains
- 1:08out of molehills, we've all heard our parents, say this to
- 1:11us or our grandparents, say this to us, and when we do that, it's
- 1:15it's very hard to shift our perspective, because we've
- 1:18already assigned it a meaning of something that's a very big
- 1:20deal. And then here we are trying to,
- 1:23you know, navigate something that's huge so where it becomes
- 1:27such a big, you know, challenge for us is Stopping that process
- 1:32before it starts. So, looking for those hooks
- 1:37seeing how you define things around, you is a major piece of
- 1:43breaking, the pattern of stress and breaking down the pattern of
- 1:47stress. So if you are consistently
- 1:50finding that you are, you know, in a state of stress and you're
- 1:54monitoring how it shows up in your body and you're monitoring
- 1:57the triggers of it. And you're looking for All these
- 2:01places and you're saying okay well these are all the stories
- 2:04I'm assigning it. This is just another piece of
- 2:06information to help you say. Okay, if I'm assigning it, this
- 2:10story, what's another perspective?
- 2:12What's another story? I can assign this, and I'm not
- 2:16saying that you're going to turn your horrible perspectives into
- 2:20great perspectives. I'm not saying that, but I'm
- 2:22looking at you and saying, hmm, maybe you can find another way
- 2:26to make it mean something, not quite as bad as you've assigned
- 2:29it to me. So Observing and saying, did
- 2:34this person have this intent? Was the intent that they took
- 2:39what the intent? I think they meant nine times
- 2:42out of ten. It's not nine times out of ten.
- 2:45We will realize that they did not do something the way, you
- 2:50know, we thought they initially did it, they were doing
- 2:53something just to, you know, appease themselves.
- 2:57They were doing something to quote, unquote help themselves,
- 2:59but it wasn't me. We as Sinister as we have made
- 3:03it out to be and that comes all back to, you know, your mindset,
- 3:08your perspective of the world. So how do you start this
- 3:13rewiring process to break the stress pattern?
- 3:16Well, the first thing is you've got to stop saying I'm stressed
- 3:20about this situation. I'm stressed about that
- 3:22situation. This stresses me out, just those
- 3:26very words, manifest and put energy into something that you
- 3:30really I really don't want to have happen.
- 3:32So in order to change a perspective, you have to change
- 3:35your language patterns. First of all you have to change
- 3:38your physical patterns and you have to change your perspective
- 3:42but a lot of times you can do this very quickly by changing
- 3:45your language patterns and the meaning you assign two things
- 3:49right away if I'm in a stressful situation and I'm are quoting
- 3:54that I'm going to first of all, say okay what's the reason this
- 3:58is causing me so so much stress. I make Sure.
- 4:01I use a what frame on it so that my brain can actually answer.
- 4:05What is stressing me out about this?
- 4:07Well, because I know and it can be simple situations.
- 4:11Like I'll give you a great example, go shopping.
- 4:14And I go to Costco and I buy a bunch of stuff and I come home
- 4:17and then I have to unpack everything and put it away.
- 4:19Now, I'll be honest with you, I don't want anybody else doing
- 4:23that job. I want to do it myself because I
- 4:25like to put things away where I like to put things away and have
- 4:28it organized rotated through the stuff.
- 4:31If I very much enjoy the process of organizing, it gives me a lot
- 4:35of certainty and any of you who listen regularly know that I'm a
- 4:39certainty freak, and I like it. If my husband goes in and he
- 4:43starts the process of putting things away, immediately, that
- 4:47is a stress factor for me because I won't know it.
- 4:49Did he rotate things? Did he put them where I would
- 4:51have put them? Where did this go?
- 4:53How did this happen? My brain starts to just overload
- 4:58and it legitimately is a stress moment.
- 5:02Now, he's not doing it to be anything other than helpful.
- 5:05He's trying to be helpful and me responding this way is asinine
- 5:09and I know it. So I have to stop myself and I
- 5:12have to pull myself back from the edge and I say nope this is
- 5:15not going to stress me out. I am not going to allow myself
- 5:20to have this response. Instead I'm going to put myself
- 5:23on the path of being appreciative of him.
- 5:25Helping I'm going to say to myself right now.
- 5:28I appreciate the fact that he's helped.
- 5:29I appreciate the fact that He's done it this way.
- 5:32I appreciate the fact that he's poured effort into our home into
- 5:36us into caring for us. And this response I'm having is
- 5:40unwarranted. It's over the top, I'm going to
- 5:43change the language pattern as soon as I start to change the
- 5:46language pattern, I can feel myself come down to three
- 5:49notches and the stress starts to level off.
- 5:52When I change the meaning, then I can say even further.
- 5:55Okay, now I'm going to pause and I'm just going to take a deep
- 5:57breath and I'm just going to relax.
- 5:58I'm just going to pause and relax for a second.
- 6:01I can go in, I can look it over and if I need to move anything
- 6:03to make myself, happy I can do that.
- 6:05But this is not about something that is cause life or death in
- 6:10this amount of stress. So I have to pause and pull
- 6:13myself back. It's always that same little
- 6:15thing that we taught in the bus book.
- 6:17Stop pause. You know, you have to, you have
- 6:20to stop. You have to reflect on where you
- 6:23are. You have to hit that pause
- 6:24button and you have to choose, and you have to redirect
- 6:28yourself. You have to consistently stick
- 6:30to the turn. So today, your mission is to go
- 6:34about that and see how can you reframe it.
- 6:37How can you change that? And neutralizing that stress
- 6:41response in your head and in your language?
- 6:44Because that's going to make all the difference in the world.
- 6:46Okay guys. I will see you tomorrow and
- 6:47we'll talk about some more stress, relieving items.
- 6:51I hope you have a fantastic day and I will see you then.
- 6:54Bye.
