Latest / Bleacher Report / WNBA 1st-Round Pick Aneesah Morrow Reacts to Her Highlights with Candace Parker _ Film Study, Ep. 4
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, everyone, Welcome to film study. I have an extremely
- 0:04Speaker 1: special guest, rookie forward.
- 0:07Speaker 2: For the Connecticut Sun. You might know her. She's a
- 0:10Speaker 2: rookie out of LSU. And listen.
- 0:13Speaker 1: One of the best rebounders I have ever seen in
- 0:16Speaker 1: my entire life, Anissa Morrow. Thank you so much for
- 0:20Speaker 1: sitting down with me on film study.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Of course, it's great.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'm gonna just go out there, I say, one of
- 0:24Speaker 1: the best rebounders. So let's I mean the cats out
- 0:27Speaker 1: of the bag. You're one of the best rebounders that
- 0:30Speaker 1: we saw in college, and I look for that to
- 0:33Speaker 1: carry forward into the WBA. So what are different tangible
- 0:36Speaker 1: parts of your game that you do.
- 0:38Speaker 4: I would say I have an amazing motor. I wouldn't
- 0:41Speaker 4: be able to rebound as intent as I do every
- 0:44Speaker 4: night with double teams and triple teams thrown at me.
- 0:47Speaker 4: So I would say my motor honestly being a student
- 0:52Speaker 4: of the game, trying to learn about the game as
- 0:54Speaker 4: much as I can, and of course rebounding and letting
- 0:57Speaker 4: that turn into my offense.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Okay, I like that parts of your game that I
- 1:01Speaker 1: think are going to translate into the WNBA.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Obviously, you talked about your motor.
- 1:06Speaker 1: We talked about your knack for being able to rebound,
- 1:09Speaker 1: but I think it's like the broken play.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Element that I've been impressed.
- 1:14Speaker 1: You know, you talk about the numbers game of fifty
- 1:16Speaker 1: to fifty balls and being able to convert in broken plays.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I think you're one of the best in the country,
- 1:22Speaker 1: especially in college, at doing so. So if you watch
- 1:25Speaker 1: this play right here and I'll pause it, you know,
- 1:27Speaker 1: as we go right here, you're in like a simple
- 1:31Speaker 1: Gerbil handoff action on the court at the top of
- 1:35Speaker 1: the floor, which you seem extremely comfortable. So take me
- 1:37Speaker 1: through kind of within the offense. What did you do
- 1:40Speaker 1: at LSU that you felt or what did coach Moulki
- 1:44Speaker 1: do at LSU to put you in a position in
- 1:46Speaker 1: the floor where you were able to play that small
- 1:48Speaker 1: forward position and get the team with an offense.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Yeah, majority of the time I take the ball out.
- 1:53Speaker 4: I like to get it out quick. Sometimes I would
- 1:55Speaker 4: tell my teammates like, no, I'm taking the ball out
- 1:57Speaker 4: every possession of every game. I know it's a lot
- 2:00Speaker 4: harder because you got to run a full length of
- 2:02Speaker 4: the floor, but I wanted to be that ultimate threat.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Once I got the ball, I could decide right now
- 2:07Speaker 4: if I'm going to pass the ball, pitch the ball,
- 2:10Speaker 4: hand it off, or I could attack my man. So
- 2:13Speaker 4: that's so many options that open up for our offense.
- 2:15Speaker 1: One hundred percent. And then when you're talking about swinging
- 2:18Speaker 1: the ball right here with the dribble hand off, this
- 2:27Speaker 1: is something right here was what we were talking about,
- 2:29Speaker 1: this broken play right here, just having a knack for
- 2:31Speaker 1: where the ball is, being able to have the touch
- 2:34Speaker 1: around the basket. Where did that come from? Obviously watch
- 2:38Speaker 1: you play a number of times at DePaul, But where
- 2:41Speaker 1: did that come from? Like you talk about your motor,
- 2:44Speaker 1: who did you learn that from or is that something
- 2:46Speaker 1: that you just always did.
- 2:49Speaker 4: I feel like it's something that I always did, but
- 2:51Speaker 4: I kind of had my wake up call when I
- 2:53Speaker 4: got to the ball. I remember calling my mother and
- 2:55Speaker 4: I was like, you know, like the senior shoot a
- 2:59Speaker 4: lot of the balls, Like how am I going to
- 3:00Speaker 4: be able to produce for the team? And she was like, well,
- 3:03Speaker 4: you got to go get it. And that's something that's
- 3:06Speaker 4: driven me to be able to go rebound. But also
- 3:09Speaker 4: when I get an opportunity to help my team offensively,
- 3:12Speaker 4: if a play breaks down, I have to be able
- 3:14Speaker 4: to be productive in those opportunities, and I feel like
- 3:17Speaker 4: that's what would allow me to separate.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Well, guess what it means. You're back in the same
- 3:22Speaker 1: position you were. You're basically a freshman all over again
- 3:26Speaker 1: in the WNBA.
- 3:27Speaker 2: And guess what cats out the bag.
- 3:29Speaker 1: The Vets like to shoot the ball a lot, So
- 3:32Speaker 1: I feel like, you know, being able to have that
- 3:35Speaker 1: under your belt is going to be you know, successful.
- 3:38Speaker 1: All Right, So we're gonna run the next play. So
- 3:41Speaker 1: your spin move, this is something that I absolutely love
- 3:44Speaker 1: watching in your game because you utilize your body. Obviously,
- 3:50Speaker 1: there are taller post players out there. There are players
- 3:53Speaker 1: that definitely have different body types, and I know that
- 3:57Speaker 1: when I was playing, I had to learn how to
- 3:59Speaker 1: utilize my quickness to kind of counter the physicality of
- 4:04Speaker 1: the game. I feel like your spin move has kind
- 4:07Speaker 1: of become a little bit of that within college.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Okay, so can you take me through?
- 4:12Speaker 1: Obviously we understand you're right handed, but can you take
- 4:14Speaker 1: me through right here? When you get the ball in
- 4:18Speaker 1: your sweet spot in that mid post area, what you're
- 4:21Speaker 1: trying to do.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Yeah, honestly, I'm trying to beat my defender off my
- 4:26Speaker 4: first step and majority of the time. My defenders love
- 4:30Speaker 4: to push me off because they're very physical with me
- 4:32Speaker 4: and they want to take away that right hand and
- 4:34Speaker 4: force me to go left. So I just spin and
- 4:37Speaker 4: I'll try to get to the basket and finish around
- 4:40Speaker 4: contact because I know HELPSID would.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Be there one hundred percent.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Right here, I think using your body and spinning off her.
- 4:47Speaker 1: But the thing I want to note too, there's a
- 4:49Speaker 1: lot of people that spin off contact, and there's a
- 4:51Speaker 1: lot of people that spin into contact right here. If
- 4:55Speaker 1: you look, you don't give the defender any space to
- 4:59Speaker 1: recover because your elbow is literally over the top of
- 5:03Speaker 1: her arm. So you spend with your elbow over the top,
- 5:09Speaker 1: and then she's able to release and come up, but
- 5:11Speaker 1: you're already through under her arm, which I think is
- 5:14Speaker 1: one of those skills that you know, a lot of
- 5:17Speaker 1: post players will spin off away from contact and give
- 5:21Speaker 1: the defender a chance to recover. What is your point
- 5:25Speaker 1: that you're trying to do because you know, obviously you
- 5:27Speaker 1: haven't played in the WNBA yet, but a lot of
- 5:29Speaker 1: it is physical, a lot of it is you know,
- 5:32Speaker 1: the speed of the game does increase from college. What
- 5:36Speaker 1: elements of your post game do you think that you're
- 5:38Speaker 1: going to be able to try to use at the
- 5:40Speaker 1: next level.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Honestly, which is pretty funny.
- 5:45Speaker 4: I feel like I use my speed when it comes
- 5:47Speaker 4: down to the post because I'm a lot smaller.
- 5:50Speaker 3: I try to be physical.
- 5:51Speaker 4: I try to match physicality, but there are some opponents
- 5:54Speaker 4: that you meet there are a lot stronger than you,
- 5:55Speaker 4: So there's like what can I do, And a lot
- 5:59Speaker 4: of things that I've been working on is being able
- 6:01Speaker 4: to slow down my game because I feel like I
- 6:04Speaker 4: rushed a lot of shots in college, and I feel
- 6:06Speaker 4: like I took a lot of shots that were contested.
- 6:08Speaker 3: But if I would have.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Took a ball fake or just had a little bit
- 6:11Speaker 4: more patience, I could have seen a shot go in
- 6:15Speaker 4: or I would have been able to have a productive play.
- 6:17Speaker 3: So that's something that I've been working on.
- 6:18Speaker 4: My jabs, my head faches, getting my player in the air,
- 6:23Speaker 4: just trying to basically kind of manipulate them just with
- 6:26Speaker 4: my eyes and my feet before I even put the
- 6:28Speaker 4: ball on the floor.
- 6:30Speaker 1: You said something right there that I think is undervalued.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Whenever you're transitioning to the next step is the pace
- 6:37Speaker 1: at which you play at, Like you have to dictate
- 6:40Speaker 1: the pace and that's where greatness lies.
- 6:43Speaker 2: And so you just said it.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I think you hit it right on the head, just
- 6:47Speaker 1: in terms of being able to use your skill set,
- 6:50Speaker 1: but being a little bit more deceptive with it. You know,
- 6:53Speaker 1: if you watch players that are able to get to
- 6:56Speaker 1: their spot, they don't do it with necessarily just one
- 6:59Speaker 1: move whatever. You have to have a move, a counter move,
- 7:02Speaker 1: and then you've got to be able to be strategic
- 7:05Speaker 1: a little bit. So let's go to the next Let's
- 7:08Speaker 1: go to the next play. When you're going into the
- 7:11Speaker 1: wa because you're not going to have the ball in
- 7:13Speaker 1: your hands all the time, you have to figure out
- 7:15Speaker 1: ways to make others around you better. And I think,
- 7:18Speaker 1: like this play right here, just being able to obviously
- 7:24Speaker 1: be in the right place at the right time.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Your teammate found.
- 7:27Speaker 1: You, maybe a little late, maybe a little late, but
- 7:29Speaker 1: then you're already one step ahead. You know the defense
- 7:31Speaker 1: is going to recover and come over, and not having
- 7:35Speaker 1: to take a bad shot. That's the hardest thing for
- 7:37Speaker 1: rookies is figuring out what is a good shot versus
- 7:40Speaker 1: what is a great shot. So right here, you see
- 7:44Speaker 1: you could have gone up and taken a contested look,
- 7:47Speaker 1: but being able to find your teammate.
- 7:48Speaker 2: We call that that, like Buddy.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Pass, What was it that in college? Do you think
- 7:55Speaker 1: playing within the LSU offense helped you develop in terms
- 8:00Speaker 1: of facilitating I.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Know that I sat down and I talked to coach
- 8:03Speaker 4: Mochi and she told me she wanted me to be
- 8:05Speaker 4: a better leader, but not just physically, vocally as well.
- 8:09Speaker 4: And that's something that I tried to do install the
- 8:12Speaker 4: confidence in my teammates. And yes I would pass up
- 8:15Speaker 4: my own shot for another teammate shot, and that's something
- 8:18Speaker 4: that you got to see in that play, but also
- 8:20Speaker 4: knowing my scouting report, like my defender block shots.
- 8:24Speaker 3: I wasn't trying to get my shot blocked.
- 8:26Speaker 4: So knowing that she would close out hard to me,
- 8:28Speaker 4: it would take her a harder, a little bit longer
- 8:30Speaker 4: just to contest for my teammate, which potentially if she
- 8:33Speaker 4: would have tried to close out again to her, she
- 8:35Speaker 4: would have foiled her. So that puts her in a
- 8:37Speaker 4: position for and one. So just trying to think the
- 8:41Speaker 4: game as quick as you can, but also knowing your
- 8:43Speaker 4: scouting report really matters.
- 8:45Speaker 2: I love that.
- 8:46Speaker 1: I love when you know, especially post players are able
- 8:49Speaker 1: to facilitate and make things easier because I know we
- 8:52Speaker 1: talk about the point guard, but being at the fore position,
- 8:56Speaker 1: being able to operate in the middle of the floor,
- 8:58Speaker 1: you kind of control the offense and so the offense
- 9:00Speaker 1: does flow through you. And in the WNBA, you know
- 9:04Speaker 1: the success has come from that fore position. I know
- 9:06Speaker 1: I'm a little biased being that I played that position,
- 9:10Speaker 1: but you know, you look at you know, the players
- 9:12Speaker 1: that really get their team going are in the middle
- 9:15Speaker 1: of the floor, have the ball in their hands. You
- 9:17Speaker 1: look at Branda Stewart, you looked at Elena Deladon before
- 9:20Speaker 1: she retired.
- 9:20Speaker 2: You looked at Asia Wilson, Nakagoma kay.
- 9:23Speaker 1: So I think that those are all positions and players
- 9:26Speaker 1: that would be great for you to watch because within
- 9:29Speaker 1: the offense, they're in dribble handoffs, they're in pocket passes,
- 9:33Speaker 1: and they're in ways to, like, you know, help improve
- 9:35Speaker 1: the offense. Yes, sure, we're a three point shooting WNBA
- 9:39Speaker 1: team WNBA league. I should say it's it's all about
- 9:44Speaker 1: being able to shoot the three to get more space.
- 9:48Speaker 1: How much have you worked to try to improve your
- 9:51Speaker 1: catch and shoot.
- 9:54Speaker 3: I've been working extremely hard, honestly.
- 9:57Speaker 4: Something that I noticed coming into the w you have
- 10:00Speaker 4: to have a quick release, and like I know, a
- 10:03Speaker 4: lot of times with being a four and a lot
- 10:06Speaker 4: of people in college didn't really respect my three. I
- 10:08Speaker 4: didn't take a lot last year, but I never really
- 10:11Speaker 4: had to have a quick release. I got time to
- 10:13Speaker 4: gather my feet everything because I never really had anyone
- 10:16Speaker 4: closing out on me. So that's something that I really
- 10:18Speaker 4: been working on, getting my feet in my hands, and
- 10:21Speaker 4: not only that, just my foundation and I followed through
- 10:23Speaker 4: together and being able to knock down those threes.
- 10:26Speaker 3: And I've been seeing improvement every day. So we'll see
- 10:29Speaker 3: it soon, all right, We're.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Gonna see it at the next level, But for now,
- 10:33Speaker 1: we gotta look at the LSU. It's a little upscreen
- 10:37Speaker 1: Lage draws two. You got time and space, you take
- 10:41Speaker 1: your time in release. I think the biggest thing, too,
- 10:45Speaker 1: is understanding that again it goes back to pace, it
- 10:51Speaker 1: goes back to space, but it also goes back to
- 10:53Speaker 1: like the ability to put in the work and know
- 10:56Speaker 1: that the numbers are going to follow. So it's the
- 10:58Speaker 1: confidence behind being able to take shots, but it's also
- 11:01Speaker 1: the confidence in being able to miss them, like sometimes
- 11:05Speaker 1: we get in our head when you miss a couple,
- 11:07Speaker 1: but instead of focusing on the result, focus on how
- 11:09Speaker 1: you're missing. Are you missing left? Are you missing right?
- 11:12Speaker 1: Are you missing front? Are you missing back? I think
- 11:14Speaker 1: that's the thing just from being around shooters that you
- 11:18Speaker 1: learn as you go on, because a lot of times,
- 11:21Speaker 1: you know scores, you focus on the miss but really
- 11:23Speaker 1: it's like how how.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Are you doing it?
- 11:25Speaker 1: And so I look at that element of your game
- 11:28Speaker 1: and I'm like, it will be absolutely scary if you
- 11:31Speaker 1: can consistently knock down that three point shot. Yes, for sure,
- 11:35Speaker 1: all right, we're gonna run the next play. So right
- 11:38Speaker 1: here we talk about the finishing of everything. And I
- 11:43Speaker 1: love this dunker spot right here. And if you're you know,
- 11:46Speaker 1: able to to kind of like take out your pen
- 11:49Speaker 1: that we have, because we're going to use the pen.
- 11:52Speaker 2: To draw the spots there you go. I saw it,
- 11:54Speaker 2: so I was like, we're gonna use it.
- 11:57Speaker 1: If you could draw on the court some of your
- 12:00Speaker 1: favorite spots, Like if you're to diagram a play, let's say,
- 12:06Speaker 1: and you have some of your favorite spots that you
- 12:09Speaker 1: know that you can operate out of.
- 12:13Speaker 2: What would those be right there? Okay?
- 12:17Speaker 3: I would say both dunkers in kind of under the
- 12:20Speaker 3: free throw line or extend.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Okay, I like that, So here's my task for you.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Within the WBA, everything gets moved out probably two more feet,
- 12:31Speaker 1: So just know that those spots are going to be
- 12:34Speaker 1: two feet further. And so the way you develop and
- 12:37Speaker 1: build your game has got to be like that. Like
- 12:40Speaker 1: your turnaround jump shot is not going to be in
- 12:42Speaker 1: the paint, it's going to be two steps outside. You know,
- 12:45Speaker 1: your your hook shots and things like that. So we'll
- 12:48Speaker 1: run this next play because you were hanging out in
- 12:50Speaker 1: one of your favorite spots all right right here. So
- 12:53Speaker 1: you're hanging out in your dunker spot, and the dunker
- 12:56Speaker 1: spot is around the baseline. It allows for dribble penetration
- 13:00Speaker 1: without bigs ducking in to clog the lane. So obviously
- 13:04Speaker 1: Flage draws two. You're still hanging out in the dunker spot.
- 13:11Speaker 1: And what I like about this is you can tell
- 13:13Speaker 1: that you're ready. You're ready to catch the ball, and
- 13:16Speaker 1: a lot of post players aren't really ready with hands
- 13:21Speaker 1: with jerseys with numbers, and so you see on this
- 13:24Speaker 1: play right here, you're already preparing yourself.
- 13:28Speaker 2: For the catch.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I think that this is an element too of within
- 13:31Speaker 1: the game, is like being able to play off of
- 13:33Speaker 1: your guards, and so that is another thing you watch
- 13:38Speaker 1: Asia Wilson. She hangs out in the dunker spot a
- 13:41Speaker 1: lot of times, and she's able to be the beneficiary
- 13:44Speaker 1: of a lot of Chelsea Gray's job drop offs or
- 13:47Speaker 1: dribble penetration. So I think that this is an element
- 13:50Speaker 1: of your game, Like, is this something that you all
- 13:52Speaker 1: work on with finishing as post players, whether it be
- 13:55Speaker 1: at DePaul or whether it's at LSU.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Yes, we work though on a lot of things around
- 14:00Speaker 4: the post every day. I know I used to get
- 14:02Speaker 4: hit in the face with the pad contact knocked out
- 14:04Speaker 4: a few times, but they challenge us every day in practice.
- 14:09Speaker 4: The move that fla j does, we get to see that.
- 14:12Speaker 4: So it's it's just playing off of each other. We
- 14:13Speaker 4: get to see each other's style of game, style of play,
- 14:16Speaker 4: and what we like. Majority of the time, I know
- 14:20Speaker 4: that she's going to pass that ball, especially with Bett's
- 14:23Speaker 4: being in there, because she don't want to get her
- 14:24Speaker 4: shot blocked, and it was the best pass to make
- 14:26Speaker 4: and we were able to be productive with it. But
- 14:28Speaker 4: just knowing your teammates and the style of play, but
- 14:31Speaker 4: also we practiced that in practice, like the physicality, toughing
- 14:36Speaker 4: each other up, being able to finish, because in my opinion,
- 14:38Speaker 4: I personally felt like I was fouled on that play.
- 14:40Speaker 4: But you know, we still we still got it done.
- 14:43Speaker 4: We got the two points and next possession.
- 14:46Speaker 2: A little little stray for for the ref. But it's cool.
- 14:49Speaker 2: They they missed, they missed the call. They missed the call.
- 14:51Speaker 1: But listen, I think another element of what you just
- 14:55Speaker 1: said is being able, like you said, to play off
- 14:58Speaker 1: the guard, to be ready, and like you said, I
- 15:03Speaker 1: think it is kind of developing that chemistry. And let
- 15:06Speaker 1: me warn you, you better get your hands up because
- 15:08Speaker 1: I know Maybury likes dropping no looks, and so you
- 15:11Speaker 1: better get your hands up otherwise she'll hit you in
- 15:15Speaker 1: the face. So be ready, be ready for uh Marina's passes.
- 15:19Speaker 1: So the next the next play, I feel like is
- 15:22Speaker 1: what we have come to know and love about you,
- 15:26Speaker 1: is that your tenacity, your nose for the ball, within rebounding.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I think you're so dangerous within second chance opportunities. You
- 15:36Speaker 1: talk about right here, nice little in and out block,
- 15:39Speaker 1: but you stay with it. And we've seen the power
- 15:43Speaker 1: of staying with plays. You're gonna get your shot blocked
- 15:46Speaker 1: at the next level, right, but that second jump is
- 15:49Speaker 1: something that I think is super powerful right here, nice
- 15:52Speaker 1: little in and out. You get her going, you take
- 15:56Speaker 1: up space, and you rebound. When did you make rebounding
- 16:00Speaker 1: your thing? Because I feel like you've always become or
- 16:04Speaker 1: been synonymous with you the second chance points.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Yeah, just wanting to see how I can help my team.
- 16:14Speaker 4: And I feel like there's no bad rebound like me
- 16:17Speaker 4: helping my team rebound. It's it's a selfish thing, but
- 16:19Speaker 4: it's selfless for the team. So and it takes extra work,
- 16:23Speaker 4: it takes a wheel. It's something that you want to
- 16:25Speaker 4: do and you have to get it.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Done every night.
- 16:27Speaker 4: And that's just my mindset. Like I set the goal
- 16:31Speaker 4: high when I go into games. Sometimes I'd be like, Okay,
- 16:34Speaker 4: I'm getting twenty rebounds tonight. I know we have a
- 16:36Speaker 4: tough opponent, but I'm gonna get twenty and if I
- 16:38Speaker 4: fall short, then I fall at fifteen. But you know,
- 16:41Speaker 4: like I gotta sometimes make it quote unquote unrealistic and
- 16:45Speaker 4: then next thing you know, I actually have twenty rebounds.
- 16:49Speaker 3: In a game.
- 16:49Speaker 4: So it's just about the mindset. It's about what you
- 16:52Speaker 4: work forward to every day. In practice, I work hard
- 16:55Speaker 4: in practice every day. That's creating that next level of conditioning.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I always say, if.
- 17:00Speaker 4: You want to be elite, you have to train to
- 17:02Speaker 4: be elite, and it starts in practice. So that's something
- 17:05Speaker 4: that I've always done. And I really feel like that
- 17:07Speaker 4: shot was very unorthodox. But it's so funny because I
- 17:11Speaker 4: do that in practice and my teammates be like, how
- 17:13Speaker 4: the hell you make that?
- 17:15Speaker 3: And I'm like, I'm just playing around.
- 17:16Speaker 4: But in the game, is it works Because I'm able
- 17:19Speaker 4: to make shots like that.
- 17:21Speaker 2: That's unbelievable.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna ask you this, So do you
- 17:25Speaker 1: think what's gonna come easier for you? Is gonna be
- 17:28Speaker 1: fifteen points or fifteen rebounds you got?
- 17:35Speaker 4: I would say fifteen rebounds, okay, So fifteen points will
- 17:39Speaker 4: come off the rebounds.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I like that. I like that.
- 17:41Speaker 1: When shall I expect you to get fifteen rebounds? When
- 17:46Speaker 1: what I mean is it gonna be early in your
- 17:48Speaker 1: rookie season. You're gonna take some time to figure it out.
- 17:51Speaker 1: I just I just want to know so that we
- 17:52Speaker 1: could play this clip and it's almost like you know,
- 17:55Speaker 1: I already knew that you were gonna have a fifteen
- 17:57Speaker 1: and fifteen game or you know whatnot.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I say it will be early on. I feel
- 18:04Speaker 4: like nobody has seen a rebounder like me when coming
- 18:07Speaker 4: into the league. I know that is not going to
- 18:09Speaker 4: be easy at all, but I feel like the motor
- 18:13Speaker 4: that I have and the intensity that I bring on
- 18:16Speaker 4: the boards is unmatched in my opinion, So I say
- 18:19Speaker 4: a little bit early on for the season.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Mike drop you heard it here first on film study.
- 18:25Speaker 1: All right, we're going to go to the last play
- 18:27Speaker 1: for you, and again we save the best four last. Obviously,
- 18:32Speaker 1: in terms of steel, I think you're shooting the gap.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Your pressure, your ability to guard out on the perimeter
- 18:38Speaker 1: as well as in the post is unmatched.
- 18:41Speaker 2: And you know, I think that that is.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Something that you can be one of those players that
- 18:46Speaker 1: can guard multiple people and be dependable in help side.
- 18:50Speaker 2: A lot of you know, a lot of it is
- 18:53Speaker 2: about help. You see, right.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Here, you're guarding somebody that is way taller than you,
- 19:01Speaker 1: and you do it with physicality. Right here, you're sealed
- 19:08Speaker 1: like you're sealed. But I think it's your second and
- 19:11Speaker 1: your third effort is what makes it special. Everything's not
- 19:14Speaker 1: going to be perfect. So when you're guarding bigger posts.
- 19:18Speaker 1: What is your mentality? What do you try to do?
- 19:20Speaker 4: Honestly, I want to bump them up the lane first.
- 19:22Speaker 4: I don't want them to just bury me down and
- 19:24Speaker 4: the inside because I know they already have an advantage
- 19:28Speaker 4: with the height. I like to use my speed when
- 19:30Speaker 4: they come down to these places. I'm baiting her right
- 19:33Speaker 4: now and she doesn't even know, and I'm looking at
- 19:36Speaker 4: her eyes and I'm like, this is where they want
- 19:38Speaker 4: to go, and they got the mismatch that they want.
- 19:42Speaker 4: But we're basically split right now. Like if I was
- 19:45Speaker 4: completely behind her, I feel like I'm beat. But since
- 19:48Speaker 4: we're split and I'm still trying to push her up
- 19:50Speaker 4: the lane, I easily could just slide under her arm
- 19:53Speaker 4: because she's gonna use me as a balance because she
- 19:57Speaker 4: wants to bury me inside. And then that's when I
- 19:59Speaker 4: just pulled a chair and I get around.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Well, you do just that.
- 20:03Speaker 1: You're baiting her in this play, and you're able to
- 20:06Speaker 1: get the steal again. I feel like you're gonna be
- 20:11Speaker 1: in this situation where you're guarding taller post players a
- 20:15Speaker 1: lot at the next level.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and a lot of times.
- 20:20Speaker 1: People talk about your arms and your physicality, but for me,
- 20:23Speaker 1: it's your feet on this play right here. If you watch,
- 20:27Speaker 1: you never get buried with your feet, And you know,
- 20:31Speaker 1: I think that that's gonna be something that you definitely
- 20:33Speaker 1: have to carry over.
- 20:35Speaker 2: In playing in the WBA because.
- 20:38Speaker 1: The words out there are not a lot of great
- 20:40Speaker 1: passers in the WNBA, and so for your ability on
- 20:43Speaker 1: the defensive end to take advantage of that as well
- 20:46Speaker 1: as your speed and your quickness, I think you're gonna
- 20:49Speaker 1: be scary on that end of the floor. So listen,
- 20:52Speaker 1: I appreciate you sitting down with me at film study.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I wish you all the best of luck next year.
- 20:59Speaker 1: My prediction as you do get that fifteen to fifteen
- 21:01Speaker 1: game this year, But listen, good luck your rookie year.
- 21:07Speaker 1: To care of yourself, enjoy the process, and I'm definitely
- 21:11Speaker 1: cheering for you this year.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Thank you so much,
