- 0:00What do you do when the person who was supposed to be in your corner is the very reason you are standing alone?
- 0:08What do you do when the promise is real?
- 0:10The calling is clear, but the support you were counting on never showed up.
- 0:16What do you do when you have done everything right and someone else's choice?
- 0:21Left you holding the weight of a dream that was supposed to have helped you do what did.
- 0:29You stay in the fight.
- 0:31Welcome back to this episode.
- 0:33You know, I've been in the midst of the E-Series, but something just made me stop for this one.
- 0:40And what I have to share with you is not a motivational pep talk.
- 0:45This is a word.
- 0:48This is something you may need right at this moment.
- 0:52So this is a story that God tucked into scripture and a place most people never look, and I believe he put it there specifically for the woman who is tired of explaining why she's still standing after everything she's been through.
- 1:07I want to take you to Genesis 38 Tarmar, not the of two Samuel 13.
- 1:15The of Genesis 38.
- 1:19Now, before you go, I go any further, I need to say something because if you know this story, your eyebrow may already be raised.
- 1:27's story is uncomfortable.
- 1:29I will not pretend otherwise, when you read what she did, your first instinct might be to judge her.
- 1:36That is a very human response, and I'm not going to shame you for it, but I want you to stay with me.
- 1:44Her method you may disagree with, but her motive was covenant.
- 1:51She was not acting out of rebellion.
- 1:53She was not being reckless.
- 1:56She was a woman who had been wronged, who had been forgotten, who had been quietly written off by the very man who held the key to her promise, and she refused to disappear.
- 2:10Now there is a difference between a woman acting outta desperation and a woman acting out of determination.
- 2:19was determined and when, when it was all said and done, Judah looked at her and said out loud, she is more righteous than I am.
- 2:32Hold on to that.
- 2:33We are coming back to it.
- 2:35of Genesis 38 is one of those women in scripture that history almost skipped.
- 2:41Her story shows up right in the middle of the story of Joseph, one of the most well-known narratives in the entire Bible.
- 2:49Genesis 37, Joseph and his coat.
- 2:54Genesis 39, Joseph in Egypt, and there in the middle.
- 3:00Genesis 38.
- 3:05It feels like an interruption, like someone accidentally left a chapter in the wrong place, but God does not make editorial mistakes.
- 3:16So was married to Judah's son Er.
- 3:19Er died in that culture when a husband died without a children, his brother was to marry the widow and carry on the family line.
- 3:28That was the covenant.
- 3:29That was the promise.
- 3:31That was her right in that culture time.
- 3:35So she married the second son.
- 3:36Onon.
- 3:37He died.
- 3:40Judah had a third son.
- 3:41And waited.
- 3:43She went back to her father's house as Judah instructed, and she waited for Judah to honor the covenant.
- 3:50She waited for the promise that was legally, culturally, and covenantly hers and Judah stalled.
- 3:59He delayed.
- 4:00He quietly decided was too much trouble.
- 4:04He moved on with his life and left sitting in a season that was never supposed to last that long.
- 4:10She was not abandoned by a stranger, by the way.
- 4:13She was abandoned by family, by someone who had the authority, the access, and the obligation to help her.
- 4:21And he chose not to.
- 4:24She had done nothing wrong.
- 4:26She had lost everything, and the person who should have been her covering became her ceiling.
- 4:33A short break here from my story.
- 4:36After I retired from radio, I still knew there was a call in my life to speak.
- 4:41One day I heard this well-known podcaster talk about how stages were looking for women of faith.
- 4:48And I continued to follow his program, the free program, and then I saw a paid program.
- 4:54Something told me this was for me.
- 4:57God had already told me my voice was anointed, but I knew I needed my husband's approval, his support.
- 5:04So I put together this report and told all about the program, all the details about the main guy of the program, put it in a nice little.
- 5:14Covering and I gave it to my husband to get his approval.
- 5:19He didn't even look at it.
- 5:21He threw it on the couch and then said something condescending and critical.
- 5:29I felt like I was trapped.
- 5:31As long as I was married to my husband, I didn't think there was anywhere to go with my speaking.
- 5:37So that story has a different ending.
- 5:40It's not the point of this story, but I knew what it was like when someone should support you.
- 5:47Denied that and denied it in a very ugly way.
- 5:52So let's go back to I want to speak directly to the woman who's in that place right now.
- 6:00You have built something real.
- 6:02You have served faithfully.
- 6:04You have shown up with excellence in rooms that did not always celebrate you.
- 6:09And there's someone in your life who should be your loudest cheerleader, and they are not.
- 6:17They're quiet when you need them to speak up.
- 6:21They're absent when you need them Present.
- 6:24They're unsure when God has already been clear, and you have been carrying that alone.
- 6:33You've been smiling through it, you've been pressing through it, you've been believing God while quietly grieving the support that never came.
- 6:42understands you.
- 6:44She did not have anyone fight for her.
- 6:47She had to fight for herself with God is her only witness, and she did it with patience and courage.
- 6:54And a holy kind of tenacity that does not make noise, but does not quit either.
- 7:01God saw her in that season.
- 7:03He saw every day she waited.
- 7:05He saw every door that should have opened and didn't.
- 7:08He saw what she lost because of someone else's choice, and God did not waste one moment of it.
- 7:17Here's what I need you to understand before you close this episode.
- 7:21of Genesis 38 is not a sidebar in scripture.
- 7:26Her story is not a detour, not an interruption, not a footnote Tucked between two more important chapters.
- 7:35She is in the genealogy of Jesus.
- 7:38Matthew chapter one, listed by name.
- 7:42Your story is not God's sidebar either.
- 7:47It is the covenant.
- 7:49It is the path of your destiny.
- 7:52Every delay, every disappointment, every moment you held the promise alone, when someone should have been holding it with you, God was weaving it into something that has eternal weight.
- 8:05You were not overlooked.
- 8:08You are being prepared.
- 8:10The woman who fought without support and kept going anyway has a testimony that the woman who had everything handed to her will never be able to carry your fight.
- 8:22Is your anointing.
- 8:26If this landed in your spirit today, I want you to do one thing before you move on with your day.
- 8:32Find one promise in scripture that belongs to you, one that feels delayed, one that someone else's choices may have complicated.
- 8:42Write it down and say it out loud.
- 8:45This promise is still mine.
- 8:50'cause Tamar never stopped believing that and God never stopped honoring it.
- 8:57So if you're an established leader who's built something real and you can relate to this story, you know your voice has not yet been reached, the room it was made for the stuck.
- 9:06No more executive cohort's built for you not to start over.
- 9:11Not to really figure out who you are, but to finally let what God put in you be heard the way it was always supposed to be heard.
- 9:20Everything is waiting for you.
- 9:21The link is in the show notes.
- 9:24Until next time, remember this, you are not a sidebar.
- 9:28You are the covenant and it's time to be heard.
