- 0:08Speaker 1: This is me eater podcast coming in you shirtless, severely
- 0:13Speaker 1: bog bitten and in my case, underwear listening podcast. You
- 0:18Speaker 1: can't predict anything. What's up, guys, how's everybody doing tonight?
- 0:31Speaker 1: Awesome Texas. It's Ryan from Eddie out there, Ryan Sears. Yeah,
- 0:38Speaker 1: there he is, he's quiet. Watch watch how slickly I
- 0:43Speaker 1: uh I do this? Um, I hope he's enjoying those
- 0:46Speaker 1: shades boots. Oh sponsor alert man. Uh if this is
- 0:53Speaker 1: our third of our of our lives to it is
- 0:54Speaker 1: the third show we've done in Texas. Yeah, yeah, that
- 1:01Speaker 1: does mean we really love Texas. Must mean you think
- 1:05Speaker 1: yet people always right in Like there was a question
- 1:07Speaker 1: I had that I was gonna look at tonight and
- 1:08Speaker 1: it begins like, I know y'all hate Texas. We'll get
- 1:13Speaker 1: to the question just to show how much we love Texas,
- 1:15Speaker 1: will get to it. But Texas, like I feel so
- 1:18Speaker 1: Texas is as proud as uh y'all are with the
- 1:23Speaker 1: you know, not massive with Texas and um Davy Crockett
- 1:27Speaker 1: and everything. There's there's there's like Texas have a persecution complex. Yea.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I was always there's a there's a there's a persecution
- 1:50Speaker 1: complex here, Like, how much? Yeah, honest, how much have
- 1:52Speaker 1: we we filmed here? All of the I feel like
- 1:54Speaker 1: we we practically live in Texas. Practically. Yeah, well, we've
- 1:59Speaker 1: at least one a pig trapping episode here. You're down
- 2:03Speaker 1: here hunting out at and have Lena once twice? What
- 2:08Speaker 1: else have we done? Came down hunted quail, not filming,
- 2:14Speaker 1: hunted jack rabbits while hunting quail, not filming. We're hunting
- 2:18Speaker 1: turkeys tomorrow, not filming. One time, my wife was offered
- 2:23Speaker 1: a job in Texas. We went to do our little
- 2:25Speaker 1: checkout to take a look at it. We went to
- 2:28Speaker 1: the people who are trying to hire her, hat us
- 2:29Speaker 1: to dinner. I was gonna stand up and say, like,
- 2:31Speaker 1: she'll take it, because we've been driving over bridges every
- 2:35Speaker 1: bridge I looked off. It looked like a good place
- 2:36Speaker 1: to fish. I started calling my kid, start calling my
- 2:39Speaker 1: kid Jimmy catfish, just an anticipation of moving here. My
- 2:43Speaker 1: wife didn't take the job, so I almost was a
- 2:45Speaker 1: damn Texan. I think that for people in Texas to
- 2:48Speaker 1: stop thinking that we don't like Texas, I'd have to
- 2:51Speaker 1: show up down here with elephant skin boots and shelled
- 2:53Speaker 1: corn coming out of my pockets. They'd be like, here's it, Texan.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Did you know do you guys know that that your
- 3:02Speaker 1: state has no regulations on owning a tiger? Cal was
- 3:10Speaker 1: just telling me that there are estimates out there that
- 3:13Speaker 1: they're that Texas has the second largest tiger population next
- 3:18Speaker 1: to India, so many cats that you guys can't even
- 3:24Speaker 1: keep track of them. All you can find are estimates
- 3:28Speaker 1: on the tiger population in Texas. The estimates for like
- 3:32Speaker 1: two to five thousand. They know with greater certainty how
- 3:38Speaker 1: many grizzly bears live in Montana than they do how
- 3:41Speaker 1: many tigers Texans? How many tigers Texans have? His pets
- 3:46Speaker 1: and the numbers are comparable. People down here like, yeah,
- 3:50Speaker 1: that's a normal move on. The question from the dude
- 3:54Speaker 1: that that those we all hate Texas is uh. He
- 3:58Speaker 1: was saying any tips for keeping his buyal was from
- 4:00Speaker 1: fogging up in the cold. He says, it's been in
- 4:03Speaker 1: the teens lately in North Texas. Could it possibly be true?
- 4:06Speaker 1: It's true, it's true. I mean he probably thinks teens.
- 4:11Speaker 1: He's thinking it's like forty five degrees, Like, boy, it's
- 4:14Speaker 1: been in the teens. When I first moved to Austin.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I was driving down the highway. It was like thirty
- 4:19Speaker 1: degrees and there was no cars. I was like, oh,
- 4:22Speaker 1: I thought there was traffic. I got to work and
- 4:24Speaker 1: they were like, uh, hey man, how did you get here.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I was like, well, I just I drove on the road.
- 4:28Speaker 1: They're like, well, it's really cold. There could have been nice.
- 4:30Speaker 1: It's like like, well, uh, it turns out there wasn't
- 4:34Speaker 1: any and they're like I was like, so, what's up.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I was like, well, it's a two hour delay. The
- 4:38Speaker 1: kids can't go to school, they don't have jackets, they
- 4:41Speaker 1: can't sit in the bus stops, like, come on, man,
- 4:44Speaker 1: come on Texas. Uh. In the case it does get
- 4:47Speaker 1: cold on here, keeping you from vinals from fogging up,
- 4:49Speaker 1: telling me Honnie, because the camera guys are good at this, yeah,
- 4:54Speaker 1: well you don't want to. Usually our cameras always fogged
- 4:56Speaker 1: up when we go from um cold a warm, So
- 5:01Speaker 1: you just don't want to, Like I don't know, I
- 5:03Speaker 1: don't put your mind on so close to your body
- 5:05Speaker 1: maybe and don't breathe into them, keeping warm close to
- 5:08Speaker 1: your body cold warm. More used to take a cigarette
- 5:13Speaker 1: lighter and heat up his lenses terribly wrong. And that's right.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Remember lenses with a with a with a pocket rocket. Yeah,
- 5:25Speaker 1: for you aspiring filmmakers, don't go to British Columbia. It's
- 5:29Speaker 1: gonna dang your budget. Quick note, who's doing anything on Friday?
- 5:37Speaker 1: On Friday? If you don't have plans? Were doing the
- 5:40Speaker 1: screening of our documentary Stars in the Sky. The money
- 5:43Speaker 1: will it's at the It's at the Eddy Flagship Store.
- 5:46Speaker 1: The money goes to benefit Texas Parks of Wildlife, specifically
- 5:52Speaker 1: Desert big horn sheep specifically does are big horns. So
- 5:57Speaker 1: there's still so there's still some tickets left. So while
- 6:00Speaker 1: we're sitting here, I don't ready. I would normally if
- 6:02Speaker 1: I saw you messing with your phone on a normal circumstances,
- 6:04Speaker 1: I would hate you. But if you're messing with your phone,
- 6:07Speaker 1: I'll just assume that Feller was buying a ticket. It's
- 6:10Speaker 1: a Hunter Bucks. It's a p M on Friday right
- 6:13Speaker 1: here in Austin, Texas. You get an exclusive event only tumbler.
- 6:17Speaker 1: You get a copy of the Meat Eater Fishing Game Cookbook,
- 6:19Speaker 1: which is available everywhere books are sold. There's a you're
- 6:22Speaker 1: already making money by going to this thing. Go to
- 6:26Speaker 1: the meat or Facebook page under events and get yourself
- 6:29Speaker 1: a ticket hunter Bucks going do good cause. Now, uh,
- 6:32Speaker 1: this is gonna sound like I'm dogging on Texas. I
- 6:34Speaker 1: am not messing with Texas. I have read the bumper stickers,
- 6:37Speaker 1: but you're This state has a great website where you
- 6:42Speaker 1: can go and read about all the things Texas game
- 6:45Speaker 1: wardens are up to and just become my favorite way
- 6:49Speaker 1: to kill time. Some people like go on Facebook when
- 6:53Speaker 1: they're just trying to have a brain dead moment. I
- 6:54Speaker 1: go and read about Texas game wardens. Anybody here from
- 6:58Speaker 1: Mattagorda County is am? I saying it right? Okay? Game
- 7:03Speaker 1: board and gets a call about a deer line on
- 7:05Speaker 1: the side of the road with a crossbow bolt sticking
- 7:08Speaker 1: out of it. He goes over to have a look. See.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Fifty yards down the road he finds a guy asleep
- 7:15Speaker 1: in a truck. He's got a seatbelt on, his windows open,
- 7:20Speaker 1: sound asleep. He's got a loaded crossboard bowl with the
- 7:23Speaker 1: safety off on the driver's seat and a loaded cross
- 7:26Speaker 1: boat with the safety on on the back seat. A
- 7:33Speaker 1: quick glance confirms that his bolts next to his sleeping
- 7:37Speaker 1: body match those in the deer that he shot and
- 7:39Speaker 1: then took a nap down the road in Henderson County,
- 7:44Speaker 1: game board and gets called by the guy out jack
- 7:46Speaker 1: lighting deer again. This fella has a loaded crossbow and
- 7:51Speaker 1: multiple flashlights in his truck, but he's like the opposite
- 7:54Speaker 1: of a sleep because he's also got a stash of
- 7:56Speaker 1: meth in. In Houston County, awarden gets a call about
- 8:05Speaker 1: some people doing some illegal hunting. He goes over to
- 8:07Speaker 1: the house where his fols he's taking place, and you know,
- 8:10Speaker 1: he sees a woman book into a house and she's
- 8:14Speaker 1: messing around with an ice chest upon with I'm assuming
- 8:18Speaker 1: this is not a YETI and you'll understand why sitting
- 8:21Speaker 1: upon said ice chest is a six point box head.
- 8:26Speaker 1: But she's already run off into the house. He cuts
- 8:28Speaker 1: around in the backyard. There's another box head in the
- 8:30Speaker 1: backyard lying not far from the bus head is her
- 8:33Speaker 1: prison I D card. He's able to look her up.
- 8:38Speaker 1: She's got two felony arrest warrants. They bring in a
- 8:40Speaker 1: track and dog and find her under a pile of
- 8:44Speaker 1: her own dirty laundry, which is quote wedged between the
- 8:48Speaker 1: washer and dryer. When you're laundry, when You're laundry has
- 8:53Speaker 1: become quote wedged somewhere. It's different than like in a basket. Uh,
- 9:03Speaker 1: you know, because I don't want to dog on Texas.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I'm on dog on my home state for a minute,
- 9:07Speaker 1: because I know I'm reading like bad. Like the sensitivities
- 9:10Speaker 1: here run high. So a dude in Michigan, this is
- 9:13Speaker 1: just just this just happened due to Michigan, goes into
- 9:16Speaker 1: a pet store called I Love My Pets and ask
- 9:20Speaker 1: some questions about the snakes that are for sale. They
- 9:23Speaker 1: leave him to be He then, on a security camera,
- 9:26Speaker 1: puts a four ft ball python down his pants, spends
- 9:32Speaker 1: four minutes in the store with the snake in his pants.
- 9:35Speaker 1: There are so many jokes you can make so easily
- 9:39Speaker 1: that I'm not gonna make them. It's it's harder to
- 9:42Speaker 1: not make the jokes than it doesn't make the jokes.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Walks around, buys a rat for six bucks. Say there's
- 9:51Speaker 1: some things I just don't put down my pants. He uh,
- 9:55Speaker 1: buys a rat for six bucks, walks out. They still
- 9:57Speaker 1: haven't found the guy in Texas. He'd be dead by now.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Or It's like Texas wardens are either good or Michigan
- 10:05Speaker 1: criminals are good. But the Texas game war and articles
- 10:08Speaker 1: always end with the suspect apprehended, and this guy was
- 10:12Speaker 1: not apprehended. Unrelated to all this, Uh, I'm walking down
- 10:17Speaker 1: the road there, Dan, I passed. There's a waffle shop
- 10:19Speaker 1: in downtown Boseman. It's like a famous breakfast place there,
- 10:23Speaker 1: and they got a sign out that says, we love
- 10:25Speaker 1: hashtags like social media hashtags, because we love hashtags because
- 10:30Speaker 1: they look like waffles. And they got me to thinking,
- 10:35Speaker 1: have they thought the me too movement was people who
- 10:37Speaker 1: are just also hungry for breakfast? I was sure this
- 10:41Speaker 1: is where the podcast was gonna go off the rails,
- 10:43Speaker 1: and it's terrible. We were we recently layout the tune
- 10:51Speaker 1: of situation how we've been talking about the tune of
- 10:54Speaker 1: the expensive tune in how you mislet everyone and had
- 10:57Speaker 1: to do a correction. Oh right, right, right, rightful everybody
- 11:00Speaker 1: that recently the tune it was bought for like was
- 11:04Speaker 1: it a million plus or two million plus? And then
- 11:07Speaker 1: it happened every year and it was sort of it
- 11:09Speaker 1: was bad because it put a price on this fish
- 11:13Speaker 1: that's gonna be over fish if people are getting two
- 11:16Speaker 1: million dollars for these fish all the time, but it
- 11:18Speaker 1: turns out that that first fish always just gets that
- 11:21Speaker 1: kind of money in a um ceremonial buying and um
- 11:27Speaker 1: as it's been putting numerous times now. It's a nick
- 11:30Speaker 1: swinging contest um in Japan for the dudes that roll
- 11:34Speaker 1: in and spend the most money on the first tune
- 11:36Speaker 1: and it comes to market of the season, so the
- 11:38Speaker 1: next one after that, I don't know. I forget what
- 11:40Speaker 1: the numbers. Yeah, I wrote pecker swinging in my notes
- 11:46Speaker 1: because I heard several people who are bringing youngsters are
- 11:49Speaker 1: bringing this back to one brings to the reason I
- 11:52Speaker 1: bring the tune thing up is someone pointed out that
- 11:54Speaker 1: there's a similar thing that happens at youth livestock auctions
- 11:58Speaker 1: where there are ceremonial purchases, and just recently in Houston,
- 12:02Speaker 1: we're here in the Great State of Texas, they had
- 12:04Speaker 1: to use livestock auction where they shattered every single junior
- 12:10Speaker 1: livestock auction world record in ten days. Some kid gets
- 12:17Speaker 1: eighty three thousand dollars for a damn goat. A turkey
- 12:24Speaker 1: goes for a most been a high fence. A turkey
- 12:30Speaker 1: goes for a d Some kid gets a broiler chicken.
- 12:35Speaker 1: She gets to twenty dollars for her broiler chicken. The
- 12:39Speaker 1: grand champions steer six hundred and twenty five thousand dollars.
- 12:45Speaker 1: The guy that wasn't about this says, and this is
- 12:48Speaker 1: why Texas is the greatest state. I looked through the
- 12:53Speaker 1: photos from the event where you can look at all
- 12:56Speaker 1: the animals and the people behind it. And if you
- 12:58Speaker 1: think that there were not a lot of people wearing
- 13:01Speaker 1: stats and hats and black sports colts, you'd be wrong.
- 13:07Speaker 1: You'd be wrong for thinking that. Um I had we
- 13:11Speaker 1: had an interesting note come in. She doesn't identify state,
- 13:13Speaker 1: and I can't identify in factually, she begins to note,
- 13:15Speaker 1: but she says, before you read this email, I'm I'm quoting.
- 13:19Speaker 1: She even put an asterisk next to it, which I
- 13:22Speaker 1: think is for emphasis. She says, before you read this email,
- 13:25Speaker 1: note that if anyone reads this to the public in
- 13:28Speaker 1: any form or fashion and mentions my name, I will
- 13:32Speaker 1: hunt you down and gut you like a fish. She explained,
- 13:38Speaker 1: she's a mother of two. What's that go on? She's
- 13:42Speaker 1: a mother of two. We were recently talking about battle scars,
- 13:45Speaker 1: like what's the worst outdoor scar you had? And she
- 13:47Speaker 1: said that was pitiful. We had pitiful scars. She was
- 13:51Speaker 1: big into sports and she was big into hunting. And
- 13:53Speaker 1: she's sixteen years old. She gets back from volleyball practice,
- 13:56Speaker 1: which ran late, and she grabs her twenty gates shotgun
- 13:59Speaker 1: and runs out to the family's milo field. The hunt doves.
- 14:03Speaker 1: It does doesn't change her clothes, so she's got her
- 14:05Speaker 1: volleyball clothes on and she has a run a half
- 14:07Speaker 1: mile then jump a fence, and she usually kind of
- 14:10Speaker 1: like climbs over the fence, but she she's in such
- 14:12Speaker 1: a hurry. She tries a half climb and half jump
- 14:14Speaker 1: and gets on the bar or gets up on the
- 14:16Speaker 1: wire and the post tips and she falls on it
- 14:20Speaker 1: and getting and lands on the ground and feels blood
- 14:23Speaker 1: running all over her stomach and looks up and she's
- 14:25Speaker 1: gashed her nipple horribly and passes out. So she wakes
- 14:32Speaker 1: up a while later, she's sixteen years old, looks and
- 14:35Speaker 1: she realizes that the barb was cut through her shirt
- 14:38Speaker 1: through her sports bra, opened her nipple up. She lives
- 14:41Speaker 1: in a town of two thousand people. She's real nervous
- 14:44Speaker 1: about words spreading. Goes down her best friend's dad's the doctor.
- 14:48Speaker 1: He puts eight stitches in it. She goes on to
- 14:51Speaker 1: say that her husband called that one scarface, which she
- 14:57Speaker 1: signs it. She signs it secretively. But um, I liked
- 15:03Speaker 1: the story, but then I got to the part where
- 15:05Speaker 1: my husband called past tense. And then now I spent
- 15:09Speaker 1: all my time worrying about what happened to the husband.
- 15:14Speaker 1: He never got caught that sneak in his pants. Oh,
- 15:19Speaker 1: it could mean three things. It would mean they split up,
- 15:25Speaker 1: he passed, or he called that one scar face, but
- 15:30Speaker 1: then never called it that again. Got it like a fish,
- 15:36Speaker 1: Got it like the fish. I like that. Gal. If
- 15:39Speaker 1: you out on a first day and got that story
- 15:42Speaker 1: thrown at me, I'd be like, buddy, I'm in Yeah.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I would not like hold that as a negative. Do
- 15:49Speaker 1: do you gotta tell you that? I had several people
- 15:52Speaker 1: and be like, oh boy, you guys a scar stories
- 15:54Speaker 1: or kind of sissy. We didn't have any good ones.
- 15:59Speaker 1: But I was like, well, yeah, but the point is
- 16:05Speaker 1: it's like experience, and you know who is better to
- 16:10Speaker 1: follow into the woods, like an old wise person with
- 16:13Speaker 1: no scars or an old wise person with lots of scars. Yeah, right,
- 16:20Speaker 1: probably the person with no scars. Yeah, if you said, um,
- 16:23Speaker 1: so I followed this horribly scarred man into the woods,
- 16:28Speaker 1: he should have seen his nipples. Let me tell you
- 16:33Speaker 1: about the other nipples, said, trust me, I know the
- 16:36Speaker 1: way back back to Michigan. This is to put an
- 16:39Speaker 1: issue to bed. I talked a lot about So I
- 16:41Speaker 1: grew up in Tonight, Michigan, and down the road from
- 16:44Speaker 1: us you had to take, I think it wrote down
- 16:47Speaker 1: Duff Road, Duff turned dirt. You go down the dirt
- 16:49Speaker 1: Near's twin Light gun Club. And I was talking about
- 16:52Speaker 1: how I'm not mistaken. You don't you get into the
- 16:55Speaker 1: foggy recesses of your memory, like the things you kind
- 16:58Speaker 1: of feel like you remember, but you can't health you
- 17:00Speaker 1: just heard it or remembered it. And I was saying,
- 17:03Speaker 1: I feel as though when I was a youngster, they
- 17:06Speaker 1: would steak like tie up a turkey behind a pilot
- 17:11Speaker 1: dirt in contestants. This sounds horrible. Contestants would shoot at
- 17:16Speaker 1: the turkey and whoever hit the turkey brought it home
- 17:20Speaker 1: and ate it. But then I was like, that can't
- 17:22Speaker 1: be true. I must be misremembering. My buddy Craig Christensen
- 17:26Speaker 1: rolled in. He goes Nope, you are not mistaken. He says.
- 17:30Speaker 1: My dad took one of those turkeys home didn't shot,
- 17:33Speaker 1: and he remembers his dad had oh six and he
- 17:35Speaker 1: used it for all these tournaments that were at the
- 17:37Speaker 1: gun club down the road from my house. He says.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Not only did they have a thing where they would
- 17:40Speaker 1: stake at turkey out and shoot at it, they would
- 17:42Speaker 1: hang dynamite from string and shoot at that. And I
- 17:46Speaker 1: was called a dynamite shoot, not to be confused with
- 17:50Speaker 1: a turkey shoot. And then they had a burger shoot.
- 17:52Speaker 1: He was saying, in a burger shoot, you didn't shoot burger,
- 17:56Speaker 1: but you shot a target in one burger. This is
- 18:00Speaker 1: like the end of nature would be that you shoot
- 18:04Speaker 1: a target and wind ground beef. Um. He goes on
- 18:10Speaker 1: to say that this old man swapped that twenty five
- 18:12Speaker 1: oh six for a quote dinky wooden boat, and that
- 18:14Speaker 1: he's still pissed at him. Last bit of Michigan news, Uh,
- 18:21Speaker 1: you know, the Michigan hello, which someone the middle finger,
- 18:27Speaker 1: which someone who wasn't described it as the finger of
- 18:30Speaker 1: fellowship to talk about in his area, gets thrown. It
- 18:33Speaker 1: gets thrown so much as a hello that it is
- 18:37Speaker 1: now regarded as the finger of fellowship and it's not
- 18:39Speaker 1: A dude was from like North Dakota or Nebraska, not
- 18:42Speaker 1: even close to Michigan. But he felt as though, Yeah,
- 18:46Speaker 1: I just realized I gave three from figure people from
- 18:49Speaker 1: Texas a finger just now, and they're probably really pissed.
- 18:51Speaker 1: A man and not one. Everybody's like, oh, that just
- 18:54Speaker 1: that nice bearded young gentleman just said hello. Uh hips
- 19:00Speaker 1: her on the m fetuck the US. No, I don't
- 19:11Speaker 1: want it. I don't want it. A Michigan woman just
- 19:14Speaker 1: tested her constitutional right to throw the Michigan Hello, which
- 19:20Speaker 1: is way off topic for us do we tend to
- 19:22Speaker 1: focus on wildlife and fishing and whatnot. But becomes interesting
- 19:26Speaker 1: because it's interesting to me. She gets pulled over by
- 19:29Speaker 1: a policeman for speeding and he writes her up for
- 19:33Speaker 1: a lesser violation. Okay, so whatever, you whatever, that is
- 19:36Speaker 1: lesson speeding, and you're sure it was for speeding. She
- 19:40Speaker 1: pulled over for speeding, so he was being a nice guy.
- 19:43Speaker 1: He's being nice. He's like, gonna let you off for
- 19:44Speaker 1: whatever whatever. What do they call it, I don't know,
- 19:46Speaker 1: let's just say kind of speeding. She got sight of
- 19:51Speaker 1: the kind of speeding. She a non moving violation. It
- 19:56Speaker 1: is what the artist. That's what it said, A non
- 19:58Speaker 1: moving violation. That doesn't really help expose. We had a
- 20:02Speaker 1: traffic cop here. There you go. All right, we'll go
- 20:07Speaker 1: with that. There you go to hang you for that
- 20:10Speaker 1: in Texas, but in Michigan. But you and a T
- 20:16Speaker 1: shirt and a button in Michigan. He writes her the thing,
- 20:20Speaker 1: and then they finish, and so she's got a lesser thing,
- 20:22Speaker 1: and she decides to as she drives off, give him
- 20:27Speaker 1: of Michigan Hello, or perhaps the Michigan goodbye. So he
- 20:33Speaker 1: then re pulls her over, re pulls her over, and
- 20:37Speaker 1: then gives her the speeding ticket. She appeals this to
- 20:42Speaker 1: a federal appeals court, and they rule that she has
- 20:45Speaker 1: a constitutional right to give an officer of Michigan Hello
- 20:50Speaker 1: if she feels like it. I don't know how I
- 20:53Speaker 1: feel about this. I feel real good about it, you
- 20:55Speaker 1: feel good about it. My demeanor when I get pulled over,
- 20:59Speaker 1: my demeanors be like I started off by being I
- 21:01Speaker 1: am so sorry. I am so sorry. I'm not saying
- 21:06Speaker 1: even any cops of finger. I just want the right
- 21:08Speaker 1: to do that if ever I feel the need. Yeah,
- 21:11Speaker 1: like it's like, Um, it's not one of those things
- 21:16Speaker 1: that gives me patriotic stirrings, but it's one of those
- 21:21Speaker 1: things where I recognize, I can recognize. I reckon. It's
- 21:26Speaker 1: nice to live in a place I guess to be like,
- 21:27Speaker 1: it's nice to live in a place where, if you
- 21:31Speaker 1: so desire, despite your upbringing, two say hello into that
- 21:36Speaker 1: fashion to an officer of the piece, you would theoretically
- 21:41Speaker 1: be allowed to do so. So you're kind of celebrating
- 21:44Speaker 1: this lady on one hand, and then on the other
- 21:45Speaker 1: you're like, oh my gosh, officer, I'm so sorry. You're correct.
- 21:49Speaker 1: If I saw her, I would give her the Michigan Hello,
- 21:52Speaker 1: but it would be I would put my thumb out
- 21:54Speaker 1: or whatever you need to do to make it different,
- 21:57Speaker 1: to make it more stinging. Um, okay, here's a good question.
- 22:01Speaker 1: If you're, uh, you're fishing somewhere okay, and you're doing
- 22:05Speaker 1: good and someone comes up and they say, hey, man,
- 22:10Speaker 1: are you catching anything? Yeah? See is that immoral? No?
- 22:21Speaker 1: If I'm not mistaken, there's this there. There's a book
- 22:23Speaker 1: called the Good Book, and they get I think they
- 22:28Speaker 1: give you ten rules. They got to narrow down to
- 22:31Speaker 1: ten things. One month's da'sn't do? And when only ten, like,
- 22:37Speaker 1: of all the bad things you can do in the
- 22:38Speaker 1: whole world, they come up with ten, and and that
- 22:42Speaker 1: manages to make the list. I changed the subject real fast.
- 22:47Speaker 1: You answer a question with a question, My god, is
- 22:50Speaker 1: that a nice sunset? What kind of shades are those? Nice? Half?
- 22:56Speaker 1: Every day is a good day of fishing. Yeah, that's
- 22:59Speaker 1: a good to put it. I don't. I call it
- 23:03Speaker 1: sam back and I don't like it. What do you do? Then?
- 23:08Speaker 1: You do not lie? Spreading love? Man? Let me come
- 23:10Speaker 1: on catching a bunch of fish. Well, yeah, it just
- 23:14Speaker 1: happened to me once where Um, we killed the cow
- 23:18Speaker 1: elk and she was, I don't know, a couple three
- 23:20Speaker 1: miles back from the road, we packed out half and
- 23:24Speaker 1: as we're getting ready to going for the second half. Um,
- 23:27Speaker 1: I remember this part of the two was a buddy dan.
- 23:30Speaker 1: I was like, man, we have those beers now, like, no, bro, like,
- 23:35Speaker 1: we definitely need to go and get the second load.
- 23:38Speaker 1: And then wow, that becas gonna be too tired later
- 23:42Speaker 1: to drink. Yeah right, and uh, this fellow pulls up
- 23:45Speaker 1: in an a t on a TV with his I
- 23:47Speaker 1: think it was his nephew on the back whatever, and
- 23:50Speaker 1: he starts asking us about the how the hunt went,
- 23:53Speaker 1: where we got where we got the cow and whatnot,
- 23:56Speaker 1: and uh Dan wanted to just just be like telling
- 24:00Speaker 1: him that it was farther than it was or or
- 24:03Speaker 1: or and just kind of not give any details about it.
- 24:06Speaker 1: And I'm like, why lie about it, man, Like I was,
- 24:09Speaker 1: you know, because but I didn't like about it either.
- 24:11Speaker 1: The guy on the A t V s saying like,
- 24:13Speaker 1: oh well, he actually was like, oh well, good things
- 24:16Speaker 1: to three miles back. I don't want to put this
- 24:19Speaker 1: poor kid through something like that when would like yelk hunting,
- 24:21Speaker 1: you know, so we're looking for one that we can
- 24:23Speaker 1: just pop off the A t V. I'm thinking, like,
- 24:26Speaker 1: what's wrong with the world, you know, No, like I
- 24:28Speaker 1: wanted to just bring the kid along and having truck
- 24:30Speaker 1: up there and maybe run into another one, you know.
- 24:33Speaker 1: So anyhow, Yeah, I don't know. It's just like from
- 24:36Speaker 1: that moment on, I've always just been like pretty free
- 24:40Speaker 1: wheel with my hunt. Effisient information in the woods. Uh
- 24:44Speaker 1: I might have mentioned before we were spring bear hunt
- 24:46Speaker 1: one time and there was an avalanche shoot you could
- 24:49Speaker 1: see from the road and kill the bear on the
- 24:51Speaker 1: avalanche shoot and skinned it and everything. And then later
- 24:55Speaker 1: I'm standing there with this dude my brother used to
- 24:58Speaker 1: hang out with, and I comes up and says, hey,
- 25:01Speaker 1: you guys seeing anything and he says no, and that
- 25:06Speaker 1: made me feel bad. But then the guy looks at
- 25:08Speaker 1: his pants, which he's like, got blood from the knee
- 25:12Speaker 1: down on his pants, and he says, well, looks like
- 25:16Speaker 1: someone got something. And he looks some straight at the face.
- 25:19Speaker 1: It goes, that's just some old rabbit blood. Remember, feeling
- 25:23Speaker 1: like this has gone too far. I Uh, on the
- 25:29Speaker 1: fishing thing, I say things like yeah, it's okay, or
- 25:32Speaker 1: yeah we're doing having a you know, decent getting a few.
- 25:35Speaker 1: But I can't be like, no, my boy weird fishing perch.
- 25:39Speaker 1: And the guy comes up and yells us how we're
- 25:41Speaker 1: doing and asked if we're getting to you. My boy
- 25:43Speaker 1: said a boatload. Then you gotta be like you know,
- 25:47Speaker 1: he's prone to hyperbole. I stopped a couple on the
- 25:52Speaker 1: road this year during meal of your season and Idaho
- 25:56Speaker 1: and uh, you know, truck's coming this way. I'm driving
- 25:59Speaker 1: down this way and I had just stopped and looked
- 26:02Speaker 1: at a you know a little three by three mule
- 26:06Speaker 1: deer buck on the side of the road, like a
- 26:08Speaker 1: hundred and fifty yards from the road, and uh kind
- 26:12Speaker 1: of waved him down. It's the last day of the season,
- 26:15Speaker 1: it said. Couple, husband, wife, I assume, and uh, I'm like, hey,
- 26:19Speaker 1: all you get you guys out looking for mule deer
- 26:21Speaker 1: and the guys like stone face and the ladies kind
- 26:25Speaker 1: of like and I'm like, well, there's a buck, you know,
- 26:28Speaker 1: right over here if if you guys still have a
- 26:30Speaker 1: tag and and he's just like staring, like sizing me up,
- 26:36Speaker 1: and she's like, yeah, where is it. I'm like, oh,
- 26:40Speaker 1: I'll just like parking that unimproved camp site over there
- 26:44Speaker 1: and then just look up and the deer's right on
- 26:46Speaker 1: the on the hillside and you'll have to cross the creek.
- 26:49Speaker 1: But the deer's right there. And he was just having
- 26:51Speaker 1: none of it. He was like, she's get this whole
- 26:54Speaker 1: thing over with. Yeah, and she's like, great, here off
- 26:57Speaker 1: side of the road. Here we go. He think he
- 26:59Speaker 1: didn't believe you, Yeah, I truly think he was like nope,
- 27:04Speaker 1: like something something's not right here. Yeah, dude, just messing
- 27:07Speaker 1: with me. Yeah, like like we're gonna miss something. Because
- 27:11Speaker 1: we're tracking down there. But I tried to pay it forward.
- 27:15Speaker 1: I guess what I'm saying. It was the mustache cow.
- 27:17Speaker 1: He saw that mustaches, Like dah, that guy's up to
- 27:20Speaker 1: no good. He's like, I need I need to before
- 27:22Speaker 1: I go up there. I'm gonna need to see this
- 27:23Speaker 1: boy's nipples. Man, you don't fish much? What do you?
- 27:27Speaker 1: What do you do? What do I do? If you're
- 27:29Speaker 1: cashing much? If you were cashing much, if I was
- 27:32Speaker 1: conceptually as a hipster um take a long pull them
- 27:37Speaker 1: of eight pen talking into your your leather trimmed ape,
- 27:44Speaker 1: your labor is apron, zip up my vest, and then
- 27:49Speaker 1: I would say no. What like when people say no
- 27:55Speaker 1: is your is your idea that it's such a finite
- 27:58Speaker 1: amount of available things there that you like and you
- 28:03Speaker 1: you're doing You're already doing good. You're doing a good
- 28:05Speaker 1: enough he hasn't to lie about, and your thing is like,
- 28:08Speaker 1: I am doing good. I don't know who this person is.
- 28:10Speaker 1: There's such a finite amount of the resource that I
- 28:12Speaker 1: would just rather that they didn't do good so I
- 28:15Speaker 1: could continue to do a little bit good. I'm playing
- 28:17Speaker 1: Devil's advocate here, but yeah, I would be thinking to
- 28:20Speaker 1: other things that I did that were nice, like, oh,
- 28:22Speaker 1: I remember that time I helped that lady across the street. Therefore, therefore, no,
- 28:27Speaker 1: because I'm a good person. I'm just choosing to be
- 28:29Speaker 1: selfish right now alright where you size them up and
- 28:33Speaker 1: you're like have you earned this? And you give them
- 28:35Speaker 1: a good once over and you're like nope. What if
- 28:40Speaker 1: it's uh, little children in bonnets, like old fashioned frairy
- 28:46Speaker 1: children that off, I would look at them and be like,
- 28:51Speaker 1: you folks are gonna take every fish out of here,
- 28:54Speaker 1: put it on a mile long stringer, take a picture
- 28:57Speaker 1: next to it, and then sell them to market. Yeah,
- 28:59Speaker 1: you're weird. That's not what I want. All right, moving on, Um,
- 29:03Speaker 1: guy wanted to know, uh, if you had remember we
- 29:08Speaker 1: did a thing now long ago. This is the problem.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Not long ago, would we had fielded a question that was,
- 29:13Speaker 1: if you could be one animal, what would you be?
- 29:16Speaker 1: And I picked a flying squirrel because I liked how
- 29:20Speaker 1: soft their bellies are, so you would just be like
- 29:22Speaker 1: rubbing your belly. I would just lay there and rubb
- 29:25Speaker 1: my tummy. The problem is then a question comes in
- 29:29Speaker 1: like this, which screws me because I'm stuck in a
- 29:31Speaker 1: situation where be tempted to have the same answer for
- 29:35Speaker 1: two questions, where he says, if you had to pick
- 29:38Speaker 1: one fur to make all of your underwear, what for
- 29:43Speaker 1: it would it be. Now I had that question coming first,
- 29:46Speaker 1: I would have said flying squirrel. But now it's gonna
- 29:50Speaker 1: look like I have a fine squirrel fetish. So so
- 29:56Speaker 1: I'm stuck with saying there's a term. It's a fur term,
- 30:01Speaker 1: which could be read two ways. I'm i gonna tell
- 30:05Speaker 1: you what the I'm not gonna tell you the all
- 30:07Speaker 1: the way to read it. There's a fur term called
- 30:09Speaker 1: sheered beaver. What this is? What this is? What it is?
- 30:15Speaker 1: What it is is? What it is? Is this a beaver?
- 30:21Speaker 1: A beaver aquatic mammal, like an aquatic road, the largest
- 30:27Speaker 1: road that we enjoy the presence of here in the US.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Bills damns, bills, damns. You pluck there's there's there's plucked
- 30:35Speaker 1: beaver and sheared beaver. You can pluck the guard hairs,
- 30:40Speaker 1: you pluck the guard hairs from the pelt, so like
- 30:42Speaker 1: a nice prime pelt, muskrat, whatever. We'll have a lot
- 30:45Speaker 1: of them have fine like a like a fine underwool,
- 30:49Speaker 1: and they'll have a guard hair which is a glossy
- 30:52Speaker 1: and long and nice, and they pluck all those guard
- 30:55Speaker 1: hairs off there and then sheer it down and it
- 30:58Speaker 1: makes a real I don't have underwear made out of it,
- 31:03Speaker 1: but man, you like the feeling that sheered beaver against
- 31:06Speaker 1: your skin. I I wanted to what I have threatened
- 31:12Speaker 1: at I have threatened at times to get my wife.
- 31:15Speaker 1: I wanted to make for ice fishing and stuff. I
- 31:17Speaker 1: want to make my wife a like a brawl lined
- 31:21Speaker 1: with it, which you can get. And there are people
- 31:25Speaker 1: that make it like, I'm not making this up. I'm
- 31:26Speaker 1: not throwing this out there, and it's like a thing
- 31:28Speaker 1: that can be done. So that's my answer. Yanni. Janni
- 31:34Speaker 1: is going with porcupine. No, but I was thinking sheep man,
- 31:40Speaker 1: because I mean, how could be up with a pretty
- 31:43Speaker 1: much a pair of Marino boxer shorts. Oh no, they
- 31:46Speaker 1: don't mean processed. You just gotta be just sheep. Yeah
- 31:53Speaker 1: for underwear. Yeah, and then I just trying to run
- 31:56Speaker 1: a flap in the front, flap in the back, and
- 31:57Speaker 1: really not any underwear anything. I think you gotta go
- 32:07Speaker 1: seal or Muskoks go. Yeah. I mean, like if we're
- 32:13Speaker 1: gonna talk cold. Let's get cold. You know? Was this
- 32:18Speaker 1: only for cold? He didn't say to him, Yeah, we
- 32:31Speaker 1: can't get it right. We're aheaded their turkey on. We've
- 32:35Speaker 1: been calling it. I was calling it in my head,
- 32:37Speaker 1: even though if they kept telling me how it was said.
- 32:39Speaker 1: I was like, you people, y'all know, I don't know
- 32:41Speaker 1: what you're talking about. It's yano. What I've been told
- 32:43Speaker 1: by ten guys that think est would remember yano pretty easy.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna started calling you yano. Kill any idea. It's
- 32:53Speaker 1: a frivolous question. You need to for hot weather? Um Like,
- 32:57Speaker 1: I don't like one of those like Marsupio that's that
- 33:00Speaker 1: they have down here. Yeah, that's a good idea. Man,
- 33:04Speaker 1: the skinny the rat with no hide on, no hair
- 33:07Speaker 1: on him, hairless mole rat. Yeah, what's the construction of
- 33:12Speaker 1: these underwear? Am I feeling? The fur on? Guy? Honestly
- 33:17Speaker 1: have to get back to the guy the same way
- 33:19Speaker 1: that uh we were we were accused of this and
- 33:22Speaker 1: on Texas, the guy accused of his dissing on on
- 33:25Speaker 1: tarps t A rps tarps mhm. I have tremendous love
- 33:31Speaker 1: for the tarp. He's fixed to go on on a
- 33:33Speaker 1: you know, a bad country hunt and was wondering, like,
- 33:35Speaker 1: why is it not okay on them? No that we
- 33:39Speaker 1: ignore him. We didn't know there was like a big
- 33:40Speaker 1: time tarp advocates out of the tarp tarp sensitive people.
- 33:44Speaker 1: I shouldn't say this, but he's like, why do you
- 33:45Speaker 1: guys not talk about or address um? I've read everything,
- 33:49Speaker 1: listened to everything. I'm going on a hunt. Why can't
- 33:52Speaker 1: I just have a tart? You can't. They were great
- 33:56Speaker 1: until they were tarps. That's gonna noise at people. Tarts
- 34:03Speaker 1: make great tents up until the moment that you need
- 34:07Speaker 1: a tent. A lot of times sleeping under a tarp
- 34:12Speaker 1: and you're like, man, this is great. You would have
- 34:14Speaker 1: been just as good with no tarp. A little drizzle,
- 34:21Speaker 1: and then you're like, you think you're you know, little drizzles. Fine,
- 34:24Speaker 1: I've stopped under tarps. We pitched them, we string them,
- 34:27Speaker 1: sleep under them. But they do have their limits. My
- 34:30Speaker 1: last night under a tarp of two thousand eighteen was
- 34:36Speaker 1: Thanksgiving Eve in Montana and had a sweet set up.
- 34:42Speaker 1: It's on this real steep ridge and there's some dead fall,
- 34:47Speaker 1: got my tarp strung out. It was going real light. Actually,
- 34:50Speaker 1: I took that tart from you, um, and I got
- 34:54Speaker 1: a fire going in the mouth of it, and yeah,
- 34:59Speaker 1: I had that. The wind kind of like sucked all
- 35:01Speaker 1: the smoke through the top of that tart. Had a
- 35:04Speaker 1: real nice heating effect for a good couple of hours.
- 35:09Speaker 1: It was great. Woke up and there was a bowl
- 35:14Speaker 1: fifty yards away. Just take a book at it. No,
- 35:17Speaker 1: I was up there packing out a bowl. Yeah, but
- 35:20Speaker 1: there there was a bigger bowl right next to me,
- 35:22Speaker 1: which was cool. So he was drawn into the tart.
- 35:26Speaker 1: I don't I don't know what pitch did you use,
- 35:29Speaker 1: very tar um. It would be like like diamond formation, right,
- 35:37Speaker 1: So you take opposite corners one corner down. Yeah, I'm
- 35:40Speaker 1: corner up on the tree. Yeah. I like tarp so much. Yeah,
- 35:45Speaker 1: I'm into like my tarp craft. Explain, explain the diamond pitch.
- 35:51Speaker 1: This is the least interesting corner up on the tree.
- 35:57Speaker 1: You stick that out and then you bring the other
- 35:59Speaker 1: two corners. Is sort of like this and bat wings. Yeah,
- 36:02Speaker 1: like bat wings and stake those in. So you just
- 36:04Speaker 1: sort of have one open mouth facing the tree that
- 36:07Speaker 1: you've got this and we are camping by yourself like
- 36:09Speaker 1: this is a point of pride that you can look
- 36:12Speaker 1: around to nobody and be like, yeah, see that. You
- 36:17Speaker 1: can picture there being a guy in the audience who
- 36:21Speaker 1: took his wife down here, and right now he's kind
- 36:24Speaker 1: of like it'll get better. What are they talking about?
- 36:32Speaker 1: What I like to do is take um in. My
- 36:35Speaker 1: colleagues sometimes tease me about this, but I take bungee cords,
- 36:39Speaker 1: homemade bungee cords, and every groment or loop in my tarp.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I rig eight inch loop of bungee because then I
- 36:47Speaker 1: can speed set it. When it's raining out, I can
- 36:50Speaker 1: just grab any bush, any rock that's the noise these
- 36:54Speaker 1: bungees made onto stuff and speed pitch my tart. Do
- 37:00Speaker 1: you guys, then we got more things to say about this.
- 37:03Speaker 1: We like tarps, love tarps. Do you guys get a
- 37:07Speaker 1: guy who's warning this is such a strange question. Um,
- 37:11Speaker 1: do you guys get pedicures ahead of hunts? I'm not
- 37:18Speaker 1: even familiar with what exactly happens during a pedocreer pedicure.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I believe that it goes beyond um getting your tone
- 37:28Speaker 1: hills clipped. My brother has extraordinarily thick, heavy tone eiles.
- 37:34Speaker 1: He was telling me and he thinks it's from eating
- 37:37Speaker 1: so much meat has made his tone hills stick. Ben,
- 37:42Speaker 1: what's problem that is? I'm just laughing. You've never had
- 37:44Speaker 1: a pedicure. I think people are looking at me because
- 37:46Speaker 1: I got the hipster thing going like that. That's why
- 37:49Speaker 1: I'm laughing, because I feel the whole crowd is like,
- 37:51Speaker 1: he's gonna tell us what's up? So go on? Well, yeah,
- 37:57Speaker 1: of course. Yeah. When I'm nancing around, you know, like
- 38:00Speaker 1: with my history clothes, I don't want my I don't
- 38:02Speaker 1: want my feet to be ugly O case I'm wearing
- 38:05Speaker 1: my strappy shoes. I mean, I do have a pair
- 38:10Speaker 1: of hiking boots and a pair of ski boots that
- 38:12Speaker 1: I make sure my toneails are trimmed back before every
- 38:17Speaker 1: use to prevent any sort of real painment out there.
- 38:20Speaker 1: That's That's what I was gonna point out is if
- 38:22Speaker 1: you're like in mountain hiking, I am fastidious about my
- 38:27Speaker 1: tone nails because if you're descending hills, and especially in
- 38:32Speaker 1: rigid boots, yeah, you get a little slip and there's
- 38:35Speaker 1: any there's an imperceptible slip in your foot and if
- 38:37Speaker 1: your toe and then you take a thousand steps downhill,
- 38:41Speaker 1: your toneails fall out. They turn blue and fall off,
- 38:45Speaker 1: which is disconcerting. So if you're rubbing, you know blisters
- 38:50Speaker 1: and cuts and you know the shorter toenail going into
- 38:53Speaker 1: the toe next to it. I've seen you. I've seen
- 38:56Speaker 1: you both. You guys hike around extra tufts like long instances.
- 39:00Speaker 1: That doesn't hurt that the tone oil situation. You got
- 39:02Speaker 1: to train up for it. Yeah, cow wears extras in
- 39:06Speaker 1: the airport and then off to Austin. And let me
- 39:09Speaker 1: tell you, this is not the country for extra tough
- 39:12Speaker 1: rubber boots. Uh made a very unsightly unpacking of my
- 39:20Speaker 1: bag until I got down to my flip flops and
- 39:22Speaker 1: then shucked my boots and my socks there in the
- 39:25Speaker 1: Austin airport and got into my flops and felt a
- 39:29Speaker 1: wave of relief, and everyone else felt another wave. He
- 39:33Speaker 1: was getting a little soupy whole another waves that that
- 39:38Speaker 1: kind of like half of my O. Go ahead, honest,
- 39:40Speaker 1: that reminded me of something I want to talk about.
- 39:42Speaker 1: I was just gonna say, I've always wanted one and
- 39:45Speaker 1: a pedicure. Oh yeah, when you get him a foot
- 39:48Speaker 1: massage while you're getting it, am I right? Whatsage? Yuh,
- 39:53Speaker 1: why do they call it a massage? You can probably
- 39:55Speaker 1: just go get that too. I mean, there's other things
- 39:57Speaker 1: that they do. But we've we've tackled this question before
- 40:00Speaker 1: or somehow it's come up where like it's been thought of,
- 40:02Speaker 1: like a good idea to prep your feet for a
- 40:05Speaker 1: big mountain hunt, being in boots and hike will be
- 40:07Speaker 1: a good idea to get a pedicure. So I'm gonna
- 40:09Speaker 1: try this. I'm gonna try it next time. If you
- 40:11Speaker 1: get it into the details of it, I'll get into
- 40:12Speaker 1: the details of it. Not only do I very carefully
- 40:16Speaker 1: trim my tone nails, but I have a recurring problem
- 40:18Speaker 1: where every two months or so I need to carve
- 40:20Speaker 1: out my ingrowns. And I've learned to do with myself
- 40:22Speaker 1: after paying some holder to do it. I get a
- 40:26Speaker 1: fat back straight razor. Wait wait wait, you paid a
- 40:29Speaker 1: hoser to do it, doctor o doctor Okay, So yeah,
- 40:33Speaker 1: like six hundred bucks, six hundred dollars to a guy
- 40:37Speaker 1: to do what I now can do in seconds. I
- 40:39Speaker 1: take a fat back razor, and I get a bunch
- 40:41Speaker 1: of rubbing alcohol, and I I sanitized my leather man
- 40:45Speaker 1: and I stanitized a pair of needle those players, and
- 40:48Speaker 1: I cut them out, and I've done it so much
- 40:50Speaker 1: they don't even believe anymore. And I do that a
- 40:54Speaker 1: week or two ahead of like a mountain hunting season.
- 40:58Speaker 1: I do that a week or two ahead so that
- 41:00Speaker 1: it has time to heal. Like, that's a lot of
- 41:04Speaker 1: toe care. If if you've added up the mental energy
- 41:10Speaker 1: that I've put it, that I put into my toes.
- 41:12Speaker 1: I can hardly look down on a guy forgetting a pedicure.
- 41:15Speaker 1: And I don't think he's gonna regret it. He's not
- 41:16Speaker 1: gonna be like, oh, I would have killed that bowl
- 41:18Speaker 1: had I not had a pedicure. Yeah. It takes me
- 41:22Speaker 1: like a week though, to break my feet in to
- 41:26Speaker 1: like real hiking shape every year. It doesn't matter what
- 41:28Speaker 1: I've been doing. But it takes me like the first
- 41:30Speaker 1: week of archery season to like get back into boot shape,
- 41:35Speaker 1: just get my feet toughen back up. And I would
- 41:38Speaker 1: be like, it would be mentally straining on me to think,
- 41:45Speaker 1: oh my god, I just got a pedicure and now
- 41:47Speaker 1: my feet are all soft. When is this going to
- 41:51Speaker 1: come back to haunt me? Yeah? Or that you might
- 41:54Speaker 1: smell like the kind of guy that to get a pedicure,
- 41:58Speaker 1: probably not running that risk. Bears are like, now that
- 42:01Speaker 1: guy him, I can take good damn, ma'am's imagine myself
- 42:10Speaker 1: kicked back. Another guy wants to know this. Uh, this
- 42:17Speaker 1: is a weird one not terribly weird. One guy had
- 42:20Speaker 1: a question. I'm not evenna I'm not evenna honor, I'm
- 42:24Speaker 1: not even say it. But this guy's question was this
- 42:27Speaker 1: um held his body have an ongoing argument? Did he
- 42:32Speaker 1: feels his body feels like you should brush your teeth
- 42:35Speaker 1: during hunting season. This guy feels you should not brush
- 42:39Speaker 1: your teeth during hunting season the whole season. He feels
- 42:43Speaker 1: that he feels that the toothpaste smell is unnatural. Let
- 42:52Speaker 1: me come on, I feel like we're getting to like
- 42:53Speaker 1: someone living under the bridge situation here, whereas like we
- 42:55Speaker 1: got tarps, our feet smell, we don't brush our teeth,
- 42:59Speaker 1: we haven't brought like what, we don't need to get
- 43:03Speaker 1: into that one. Right, I'm cool, cool, Yeah, Okay, this
- 43:08Speaker 1: is a broad question, how do you find hunting spots?
- 43:12Speaker 1: But let's not let's not do that, let's do it
- 43:14Speaker 1: by let's do it by anecdote. Uh, talk about a
- 43:18Speaker 1: great in a way that would be helpful to listeners.
- 43:21Speaker 1: You could select hunting spot or two that you got
- 43:26Speaker 1: that you feel demonstrates an effective approach, or something that
- 43:33Speaker 1: one ought to keep in mind because as the big
- 43:38Speaker 1: issue for people. The number one when people cite reasons.
- 43:43Speaker 1: I think it's state by state, but generally when people
- 43:46Speaker 1: cite reasons that they quit hunting or want to but don't,
- 43:51Speaker 1: it's access place to go. I will tell you that
- 43:55Speaker 1: I have had seasons where I'm like, here's my a spot,
- 43:59Speaker 1: be spot, see spot and hit my spots and had success,
- 44:06Speaker 1: and then the very next season I'm like, Okay, I'm
- 44:09Speaker 1: only going to spots that I've never been to before,
- 44:13Speaker 1: which means I can't repeat either. And I've had the
- 44:18Speaker 1: same level of success. Forcing yourself to go explore exactly
- 44:24Speaker 1: like I'm getting interrupt Um, you need to go check
- 44:28Speaker 1: out some new country. And I think that's what it is,
- 44:32Speaker 1: is just you know, being comfortable with the fact that
- 44:36Speaker 1: you may not get something, but the reality is, like
- 44:39Speaker 1: my best spots, I'm still running that same risk. Yeah,
- 44:44Speaker 1: I have a very good chance I'm not getting something.
- 44:47Speaker 1: I like the rule to make a rule like this year,
- 44:49Speaker 1: I cannot go to the same place it's so much fun, too,
- 44:53Speaker 1: so much fun. I have to go somewhere and then
- 44:56Speaker 1: you're like, holy ship, there's game everywhere. It's a very
- 45:00Speaker 1: Western idea, though, when you live in Texas, you didn't
- 45:03Speaker 1: like there's not you can't, well, I'll just pick another spot,
- 45:05Speaker 1: Like there's not. There isn't public land to go and pick,
- 45:08Speaker 1: unless you got a lot of access here, unless you
- 45:10Speaker 1: got a bunch of rancher buddies. Just not in reality
- 45:12Speaker 1: to be have a b and C tell your spouse, Um,
- 45:18Speaker 1: I made a vow not to hunt the same place.
- 45:20Speaker 1: That's why I bought another property, at least the force
- 45:24Speaker 1: properties to keep myself on my toes. When a man
- 45:28Speaker 1: makes a vow, I briefly the thing that that I
- 45:31Speaker 1: did when I lived in Illinois and again before I
- 45:34Speaker 1: lived to Texas. I live there, and it's similar. There's
- 45:36Speaker 1: no The public land that is there is either overrun
- 45:40Speaker 1: or you have to draw a spot, and you can
- 45:42Speaker 1: sit in a certain duck pit or a certain blind
- 45:45Speaker 1: and it's just not the way that I like to hunt. Well,
- 45:48Speaker 1: you're gonna love my story because my story is not
- 45:50Speaker 1: a My story is a private land story. Okay, we'll
- 45:52Speaker 1: get there. Just give me a preview. UM, I'm just
- 45:56Speaker 1: trying to titillate you. Thank you. I've I met a guide.
- 46:01Speaker 1: We were I don't know. I was at a trade
- 46:02Speaker 1: show or something to met a guy. He's like, oh,
- 46:04Speaker 1: I'm up in Pike County, Illinois. I said, I'd love
- 46:07Speaker 1: to come up and just check out your operation and
- 46:08Speaker 1: learn about how you managed deer and you know, as
- 46:10Speaker 1: a writer, maybe read an article. I went up there.
- 46:13Speaker 1: We struck up a relationship. We got the drinking beer.
- 46:15Speaker 1: He was a big I remember him being a big
- 46:17Speaker 1: Shania Twain fan. So I was forced to sit and
- 46:20Speaker 1: drink wine with him and listen to Chania Twain. Um,
- 46:23Speaker 1: drinking wine. Listen, I know it's playing right into the nerative.
- 46:28Speaker 1: And he fed for I'm well, I'm open, I'm wide open.
- 46:31Speaker 1: We're in the trust tree, We're in the next. Um.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I befretted this feller over Shania Twayne and wine, and
- 46:38Speaker 1: I said, hey, man, I'd love to come hunt. He
- 46:40Speaker 1: was complaining that all his clients wanted to go and
- 46:43Speaker 1: hunt his other properties that weren't around his house, but
- 46:45Speaker 1: the best hunting in the Biggest Deer were literally right
- 46:47Speaker 1: off his back porch. And the kind of his back
- 46:49Speaker 1: forty area. So we struck up a deal where I
- 46:51Speaker 1: would help him guide white tails, which is getting up early,
- 46:54Speaker 1: driving a dude to a tree stand, making sure he
- 46:55Speaker 1: didn't fall out, and then drive him back, and then
- 46:58Speaker 1: I would go and hunt his back forty where no one,
- 47:00Speaker 1: none of his clients wanted to hunt just for the
- 47:03Speaker 1: you know, just for the work of driving dudes back
- 47:05Speaker 1: and forth to their tree stands because they needed an
- 47:07Speaker 1: extra guy. So I think in this state, in Texas,
- 47:09Speaker 1: you definitely have to understand that give and take with
- 47:12Speaker 1: a landowner or a god or an outfit or or
- 47:15Speaker 1: whoever it is to get that access that you want.
- 47:19Speaker 1: It's less of it, you know, you don't there's not
- 47:20Speaker 1: so much open ground, so you have to kind of
- 47:22Speaker 1: pick and choose. Doug during in his place in Wisconsin,
- 47:27Speaker 1: he started a thing where he I don't want to
- 47:29Speaker 1: say he formalized it, but he started a thing where
- 47:34Speaker 1: people that I don't wanna get Dug in legal troubles.
- 47:38Speaker 1: I can't think, Yeah, he's probably be aware of this. Doug.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Guys think where people that want to hunt on Dugs
- 47:44Speaker 1: place just like an understanding. Did they help him with
- 47:49Speaker 1: some stuff and he's trying he's got a ripe parian area.
- 47:51Speaker 1: He's trying to replan it, resede it in native vegetation,
- 47:55Speaker 1: and it's like folks to hunt the farm happened to
- 48:00Speaker 1: like to help me re se native vegetation along the creek,
- 48:06Speaker 1: and it's a very rewarding experience for all. He says.
- 48:11Speaker 1: I told the story for my favorite permission thing was
- 48:13Speaker 1: I had a farm that I very gradually got a
- 48:20Speaker 1: like February squirrel hunting permission to do a single squirrel hunt.
- 48:26Speaker 1: So it wasn't like come and go as you please.
- 48:27Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I suppose this February if you
- 48:31Speaker 1: want to come out for a day, you know, I
- 48:33Speaker 1: don't know. And we go and get some squirrels, and
- 48:36Speaker 1: my body, I think we got a half dozen squirrels
- 48:38Speaker 1: on this guy's place. And I started texting him photos
- 48:43Speaker 1: of all the stuff we were making with the squirrels.
- 48:47Speaker 1: He then comes back with, I don't care what you
- 48:50Speaker 1: guys want to hunt. Have had it, dear turkey. Whatever.
- 48:56Speaker 1: He just was like a pragmatic man being a guy
- 48:58Speaker 1: in egg It's pragmatic man like to see, you know,
- 49:03Speaker 1: the fruits of the earth respected saw that and for
- 49:09Speaker 1: whatever reason to click with him. Not for whatever reason.
- 49:11Speaker 1: It's just like spoke to his sensibilities. Waste not, want not. Oh,
- 49:15Speaker 1: and you guys demonstrated that you appreciated, you know, the
- 49:20Speaker 1: fruits of the of the land, so to speak. And
- 49:22Speaker 1: it was his land right So or he's like, man,
- 49:26Speaker 1: these guys are a couple wait jobs starting. I'd like
- 49:30Speaker 1: to talk to these guys more. It's just a simple
- 49:34Speaker 1: vetting process really on his end. But we've done well
- 49:38Speaker 1: agatting permission in Texas. They I don't want to say where, No,
- 49:45Speaker 1: we can't do we talk about it. Mike. Now all
- 49:50Speaker 1: these thoughts already went through my head. You already thought
- 49:52Speaker 1: about not talking about his approach. Well, I don't think
- 49:56Speaker 1: his approach matters so much. It's just that, like we
- 49:58Speaker 1: had good law of games. I mean, not only did
- 50:00Speaker 1: we get hunting permissions, but guys were signing location releases,
- 50:05Speaker 1: which means that you know, they're saying that we can
- 50:07Speaker 1: film on their property. Like the day we met him,
- 50:10Speaker 1: you know, within five minutes and meeting them shaking hands.
- 50:13Speaker 1: I feel comfortable saying this. There is a guy we know,
- 50:16Speaker 1: not from the state, who goes to a school which
- 50:21Speaker 1: is which is regionally popular, and he does work at
- 50:27Speaker 1: the school researching an animal that's regionally not popular, and
- 50:32Speaker 1: he has great luck establishing his affiliation with the popular
- 50:36Speaker 1: school and his animosity towards the not popular animal and
- 50:43Speaker 1: enjoys enjoys. I think he puts out about success rate
- 50:47Speaker 1: on permissions that is very good. It might not be
- 50:52Speaker 1: the same for white tailed deer, you know, but for
- 50:55Speaker 1: some birds that eat a lot of grain. But there,
- 50:58Speaker 1: but there are different ways of getting around it. Yeah,
- 51:01Speaker 1: how anybody here have the lone star tick deer where
- 51:03Speaker 1: you become allergic to meet Did you just raise your hand?
- 51:11Speaker 1: My uncle just recently that he's got and that's the
- 51:18Speaker 1: So your uncle recently found out that he's got the
- 51:20Speaker 1: thing one gets where one becomes allergic to meet from
- 51:25Speaker 1: eating from getting bit by a tick. This guy, there's
- 51:31Speaker 1: a crazy story a guy wrote in UM pretty long
- 51:35Speaker 1: when a very interesting story that I'm gonna have to
- 51:37Speaker 1: distill down. His mom's a nurse, but he gets bit
- 51:42Speaker 1: by a bunch of ticks, eventually gets sick. Um. They're
- 51:47Speaker 1: drinking beer, they're eating dear meat, drinking beer, and they
- 51:51Speaker 1: think that he has somehow had like a beer and
- 51:56Speaker 1: was suffering from alcohol poisoning, like something happened where the beer.
- 52:00Speaker 1: That turns out he'd established the meat allergy from the
- 52:05Speaker 1: associated with the loan the loan startic right, loan startic
- 52:08Speaker 1: virus um not only that cheese, and then he discovers
- 52:16Speaker 1: in a way that lands him in the emergency room
- 52:19Speaker 1: gummy bears, meat cheese and gummy bears. My kids would
- 52:27Speaker 1: be bumed. It's a bad deal. It's called the lone
- 52:31Speaker 1: startick because it's not just here in Texas. No, he
- 52:33Speaker 1: wasn't in Texas. I didn't tell how he wasn't in Texas.
- 52:36Speaker 1: That wanted people here to feel included. Yea, he's in
- 52:40Speaker 1: a neighboring state. What would you do? I mean, we've
- 52:46Speaker 1: talked about it, but what would you do? Like, how
- 52:48Speaker 1: did affect your relationship to honey man hunting deer? It
- 52:53Speaker 1: would be hard to continue to do it. It would
- 52:55Speaker 1: be hard to continue to do it, it would. I
- 52:58Speaker 1: don't know how you would. I don't know how I would.
- 53:00Speaker 1: I thought that to be like the biggest nightmare as
- 53:02Speaker 1: a hunter. You go out hunting, you get bit by
- 53:04Speaker 1: a tick, and then you're allergic to the thing. You
- 53:06Speaker 1: were going after. It's almost like the dear scent, the
- 53:08Speaker 1: damn tip. Yeah, it would be devastating. I would start fishing.
- 53:13Speaker 1: I would find out all the things you could do.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Someone once told me that monkey meat, that you can
- 53:19Speaker 1: have the lone star tick meat allergy and still eat
- 53:22Speaker 1: monkey meat. I don't know if that can't be true.
- 53:25Speaker 1: Let's go with no. But that's not gonna that. That
- 53:27Speaker 1: wouldn't be the direction I went. I'll tell you I
- 53:30Speaker 1: came down the direction you would be gone monkey meat
- 53:32Speaker 1: directions that would not I came down hunting with banded
- 53:37Speaker 1: last June here in Texas where we're hunting what what
- 53:42Speaker 1: part remember Sonora hunting Sonora and uh first tick I
- 53:48Speaker 1: had was a lone star tick and then proceeded to
- 53:50Speaker 1: have like fifteen more of them throughout the week. Um
- 53:55Speaker 1: got home to Idaho at the time, had a couple
- 53:59Speaker 1: of weeks later had like bowl's eye tick bite. Yea.
- 54:03Speaker 1: I can't tell you how relieved I was to find
- 54:05Speaker 1: out I had limes disease. Yeah, as long as it's
- 54:14Speaker 1: not the meat thing, it would be so so hard.
- 54:25Speaker 1: Like the food aspect is such a driving force behind
- 54:33Speaker 1: you know, seasons go on for a long time. It
- 54:36Speaker 1: gets like it gets to be a lot. But by
- 54:40Speaker 1: the time waterfowl season comes around, I've spent a ton
- 54:43Speaker 1: of time in the woods. What gets me out is
- 54:47Speaker 1: not the hunting. What gets me out is like, it
- 54:49Speaker 1: would be really great to have some big fat mallard
- 54:52Speaker 1: breasts in the freezer and for that to be like, well, yeah,
- 54:56Speaker 1: but you can't eat them. But because it's only read meat, right,
- 55:01Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know how darc falls into it. Yeah,
- 55:03Speaker 1: it's pretty rare, and it sounds like it's a little
- 55:04Speaker 1: bit hit and miss. Like this brother here having the
- 55:06Speaker 1: cheese and gummy bear thing makes you think it's throwing
- 55:08Speaker 1: a bit of a wild card at you. Those ticks.
- 55:12Speaker 1: What do you think about the guy that rolled in
- 55:14Speaker 1: saying that they had the buddy that was allergic to
- 55:17Speaker 1: everything else about a deer, but not the meat, and
- 55:21Speaker 1: thus when they went out, he got to pull the trigger,
- 55:23Speaker 1: but then he couldn't touch the deer. I believe he
- 55:27Speaker 1: couldn't got it, he couldn't skin, he couldn't out. Seriously,
- 55:33Speaker 1: you're allergic to hunting, that's what this guy. This guy
- 55:38Speaker 1: was saying. My body always said that, and I thought
- 55:40Speaker 1: he's a liar, and it turns out he's not lying.
- 55:43Speaker 1: To figure it out a little couple of times, it's
- 55:47Speaker 1: like from deer first, but you need to meet your
- 55:52Speaker 1: fine Why you why are you hunched up so much
- 55:54Speaker 1: like that? If you keep doing that, you're gonna sit
- 55:58Speaker 1: like me and you get older. Man, sit up where
- 56:00Speaker 1: it's too late. I'm gonna sit up right now. I'm
- 56:02Speaker 1: just looking at you. Uh yeah, I did take note
- 56:08Speaker 1: of that. You're no, I've got these kids. These kids
- 56:11Speaker 1: are great kids, um real, they're They're very poised, articulate,
- 56:15Speaker 1: bright eyed kids. I like those guys. Um I what
- 56:20Speaker 1: were we talking about? Igot the praise and those good
- 56:23Speaker 1: A good excuse any work in the world. The guy. Yes,
- 56:26Speaker 1: the guy was saying that that like he can hunt,
- 56:29Speaker 1: but he can't gut, drag, skin, nothing, and then he eats,
- 56:34Speaker 1: which sounds like it sounds like an African safari. It's
- 56:41Speaker 1: like he probably developed that allergy shortly after his Safari.
- 56:45Speaker 1: Can bring up because it wasn't in your notes really
- 56:48Speaker 1: we were talking about, but I kind of bring up
- 56:49Speaker 1: that email we just recently got about. You want to
- 56:52Speaker 1: violate my notes about fooling people to eat elk mey,
- 56:56Speaker 1: oh no, we talked about this though, but not the
- 56:59Speaker 1: not the reason not to follow up. Go ahead, I
- 57:01Speaker 1: don't I don't know where you're going with this, but
- 57:02Speaker 1: I trust you. Well, this guy in there at camp.
- 57:05Speaker 1: The rule was when it was an elk camp, when
- 57:07Speaker 1: a bull got killed, that you better show up at
- 57:10Speaker 1: camp with the heart and the testicles. And that was
- 57:13Speaker 1: a dinner. Okay, Well, there's this one guy in camp.
- 57:17Speaker 1: It was like not participating in in in the Rocky
- 57:20Speaker 1: Mount oyster part of this. You know, everybody else was
- 57:23Speaker 1: in camps, like, come on, really, but he wouldn't do it.
- 57:27Speaker 1: So I don't know if it was a few days
- 57:29Speaker 1: later or maybe another hunt later, but anyways, there's a
- 57:32Speaker 1: couple of grouse get shots. They also have some testicles
- 57:36Speaker 1: in camp, so they have a big no some bull
- 57:39Speaker 1: testicles in camp, so they have a big grouse feed.
- 57:44Speaker 1: They also happened to fry up some bowl testicles. Everybody
- 57:48Speaker 1: else eats grouse. This guy eats the bull testicles and
- 57:51Speaker 1: at the end of the meal he says to his
- 57:55Speaker 1: honey companions, we should just quit hunting alcohol together because
- 57:59Speaker 1: these ground or where it's at, do you believe that
- 58:04Speaker 1: that's true. Yes, you think that a guy. You think
- 58:10Speaker 1: that there's a guy who's got the wherewith all in
- 58:13Speaker 1: life to wind up in a situation where he's at
- 58:16Speaker 1: least out in the woods with other people who would
- 58:19Speaker 1: mistake a grouse a chunk of grouse. Made chunk of
- 58:24Speaker 1: grouse for chunk of rocky Mountain oyster. True, Rocky, it
- 58:30Speaker 1: would be the reverse, You would mistake the oyster for
- 58:33Speaker 1: the grouse. Sorry, yeah, yeah, if he had never had
- 58:39Speaker 1: grouse made sure good. I like that story. Thanks for sharing,
- 58:42Speaker 1: you welcome, But is it okay? I mean that's what
- 58:47Speaker 1: in that case? Yeah. I only think this is what
- 58:49Speaker 1: we talked about tricking people because I've tricked people and
- 58:51Speaker 1: eating things they didn't want to eat. I only think
- 58:54Speaker 1: it's not I only think it's okay. It's only justifiable
- 58:59Speaker 1: if you're not putting someone in situation where you're tricking
- 59:02Speaker 1: them into violating a religious prohibition or you're tricking them
- 59:07Speaker 1: into violating like a like an ethics thing, like you
- 59:10Speaker 1: never served someone and they'd be like, ha, that's your
- 59:14Speaker 1: Remember when your grandma died, you know, like it's like
- 59:19Speaker 1: our people grandma, Yeah, so what But and if you're
- 59:25Speaker 1: just tricking someone because they're squeamish or being annoying. I
- 59:28Speaker 1: think that's totally fine. It would not be fine to
- 59:30Speaker 1: trick someone into into like I said of religio, there's
- 59:34Speaker 1: a there's a wide difference between an elkantastical and a
- 59:37Speaker 1: quail breast. That's what you're telling me, not a breast breast.
- 59:43Speaker 1: I'm talking about what we what we discussed before. We
- 59:45Speaker 1: discussed before where a guy was saying, I have a
- 59:46Speaker 1: roommate that won't eat wild just won't eat wild game.
- 59:50Speaker 1: So what we do is we feed the roommate wild game,
- 59:54Speaker 1: but just don't tell them what it is because it's annoying,
- 59:56Speaker 1: and so we just feed him it and eventually we're
- 59:59Speaker 1: gonna be like, you know what, do shut up because
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: you've been eating dear meat every night in your pasta
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: like that, that's all dear meat, So let's not hear
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: about the wild game thing anymore. He was like, is
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: that okay? Or is that bad? And I pointed out
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: at the time that I only think it's bad to
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: trick people if you would be putting them in a
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: situation where you're putting them in a thing where they're
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: where you're violating, but you're tricking them into violating some
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: kind of sacrament. Or it'd be like you have a
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: person that's that they're they're committed, and they're they're gonna
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: committed vegan, and they decided they don't want to contribute
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: anyway to animal suffering, and then you give them a
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: thing and you're like, Hai, tricked you, right. I don't
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: think that's cool. I don't think it's cool. But if
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: someone's just annoying, like they're just annoying and dumb or whatever,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: I think it's okay to trick them. If they're just
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: being squeamish. You find what I'm saying nance that's anti bush.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: I prefer the hard way. My preference is the hard
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: way at be like, Stephen, this is the meat. I
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: know you think you do not like it, but this
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: is what the story is. Is what I've done to it.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: Please try a bite. And I like I like that
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: approach because I want people like face it head on
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: and then there's no like second guessing. Just turn the
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: lights down, little plains access boys. Yeah good, but I
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: do yeah that there is a path of least resistance
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: that can lead to a good result. As well, yeah,
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: I've done some trickery. Yeah, we're convinced that someone during
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: the what do you what do you give me? The
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: labby and smirk for I'm just loving you. During the
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: pre show reception, we talked someone to get we talked.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: We tried to talk someone in to getting excited about
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: squirrel meat. We also had a guy I say, uh,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: he says, I grew up so far out in the
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: country we had to drive towards town to go hunting.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: You know what, when we're talking about the lone star
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: tick and and all these other things there, you know,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: diseases and whatnot you can get. It's got a lot
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: for me. Having kids, I become like, I can see
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: how some parents have kids and get weird about the
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: risks because things that I never ever thought of I
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: now think of with kids around. It's partly because I'm
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: concerned for them, and it's partly I'm concerned for me
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: should something happen to them, how it would be received
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: by my wife. So we're to squirrel hunting last weekend,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: and we got a squirrel that had it had lost
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: a lot of its hair down its sides. It was
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: obviously rubbing because it was symmetrical and you can see
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: but your mind like nob I wouldn't pay attention to it.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: And my kids they run around and find like hulking,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: you know what I mean. They run over and it's
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: just like the squirrels everywhere, and it's around their neck.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: It's like half in their shirt. There's really get into
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: and um, and I become you know, they get that
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: psycho somatic where I'm itching and I'm studying where I'm
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: itching and there's nothing there, and I'm realizing that I'm
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: having like the things that you just are so worried
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: about someone else getting something that it happens to you,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: and it's it's not welcome to me. Like I've looked
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: at the world as being slightly more hazardous now that
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: I have kids, and when I don't, I never thought
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: about getting the plague hunting squirrels. So this wasn't a
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: flying squirrel then, because you'd have been. But now I
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: like walk around like hyper aware of all these things ticks.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: My quick side note. I missed that hunt, um, which
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: I always go on. I'm real bombed. I miss it
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: good reason, that batter reason. But I had to miss
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: it some family obligations. But Yeah, Yanni had his grandfather
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: passed away. But with allost squirrel it's just fat. This
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: could be it's like like eyst shot. I thought we
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: killed a house cat. Yeah, like when you skin them
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: like far and messed up shot of house cat. It
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: almost looks like large on their haunches when you skin
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: them greasy and you know when those house cats start
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: to rub a little bit of hair, you know what.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: The coolest squirrel hunting thing that ever happened to me
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: happened perhaps too too interesting squirrell things happened to me.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: This abrahunt is conwoods and there's an invasive plant called
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: a Russian olive. And I think that the Russian olive,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: the invasive Russian olive, I believe makes areas habitable for
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: squirrels that previously weren't habitable. I think that if you looked,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: if you mapped the westward expansion of fox squirrels in
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: large Riparian areas, it would it would mirror. This is
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: just a guess, it would mirror Russian olive invasion. Like
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: the alves. I'm crawling through a bunch of Russian alf
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: I hadn't see anything a little bit, and we see
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: one way off, way the hell off from the tree.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: And my kid, my eight year old, is very I
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: don't mean to toot my own horn here a little bit,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: but he's a very good squirrel spotter. He's possible way off.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: And we're crawling through a bunch of thick Russian oli,
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: just just getting ready to head over to the area
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: with Brody, and I see it almost I thought I
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: was hallucinating, because I see there's like the sun's real
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: bright kind of breaking through, and I see the perfect
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: shadow of a squirrel, a shadow, like a perfect shadow
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: of a squirrel across in front of me, and I
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: think I'm hallucinating and dying or something, you know, like
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: I've I've entered the afterlife. And I looked and he's
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: just right here, going over, and it cast his shadow
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: to look like he was crossing the ground in front.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: The other very interesting thing I saw we had to
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: working up in a tree and one goes into a hole,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: turns around and comes out to defend his whole to
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: not let his buddy in, which leaves his buddy in
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: a situation of being stuck in the tippy top of
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: a cotton wood and torn between the vulnerability he's feeling
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: with us lining up on him and fighting it out
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: with the dude in the whole. Like, if I was
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: a better man, I would tell you that we didn't
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: get that squirrel, but we got him. And it's still
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: I still have a heavy heart. I have a heavy
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: heart about what those two went up went through up
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: in that tree. But it really shows you where a
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: squirrels allegiance is. He's like that squirrel is the dude
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: who's fishing and he's doing good and says he's not
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: squirrels Like he's like, bro, I got a good Why
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: would I care how you have it? It's a nice hole.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: It was a weird deal and um, we're just talking
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: to Uh, I can't who we're talking to. Marrow's comment
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: your kids, it was you was saying that you were
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: hung with your kids and they saw a squirrel poking
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: out of a hole and then learning to like having
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: the very uh important realization is that there he is
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: and you could get him, but you can't get him
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: because if you get him, he's gonna fall back into
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: the hole. And we had that problem with this one
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: of trying to convince my eight year old who he's got,
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: like a Kevin Murphy esque uh desire to not let
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: any squirrels get away, and to to to convince him
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: of the idea that we would leave that squirrel for
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: fear of not retrieving it was tough. It was tough.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: He was ready to we would get a chainsaw. There's
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: some there's like it's you know, we have three grown
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: adults here. There's certainly there's a way to get that tree.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: Talking about ladders, like we got ladders now, yeah, we learned. Yeah,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: maybe like, uh, what's the whole system when you were
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: climbing trees um as an arborist, right, you throw the
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: sandbag over and then you run the rope. We didn't
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: we Yeah, I know what you're talking about. We didn't
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: do that. You can use you can use archery, bow
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: fishing arrows. Oh yeah, you set a line with the
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: bow fishing arrow. That's good idea. You shoot the bull
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: fishing line all over, then pull smaller like para cord
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: over that, then use that the hoys stuff and then
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: you just needed is a jumar device. Right, you climb
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: with senders. We never used the senders. We use a
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: suicide not um. Same thing though, right where we were
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: with the tarps. Sorry, the conversationally two people and I
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: don't remember real serious because I'm with Jimmy. I don't
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: want to let all these squirrels go and they get
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: in the hole. Right, A ladder seems a little cumber something.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: But if we were just packing like a harness in
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: one length of rope, Yeah, but then you have to
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: do the equation of like how much squirrel meat are
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: you gonna get for how much time on one tree?
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Whereas you leave that tree, that's when you've you've you've
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: crossed some line where the amount of squirrel meat is
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: not as important as how many squirrel America. This is Texas,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: we get the squirrel. Okay, Texas to leave some squirrel
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: on the tree. America. Uh yeah, I I I struggle
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: over because I know that even some of the tricks
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: that that Kevin Murphy talks about, for for rustling the
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: squirrel out of a hole in a tree, would be
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: completely unacceptable for deer. If you met a guy and
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: he's like, well we're having a hard time finding deer,
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: so we burned them out, it's like it doesn't go
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: over well. Yeah, people can right in to say it
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: to us. Hey, you know what you do is you
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: go to Mad Dave's Fireworks and get a bunch of
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: smoke bombs, and then you don't have any problem with
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: squirrels and trees anymore if you smoke them out. So
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: you do, you just wind up with like a thing
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: um in muskrat trapp When I was a muskrat trapper, uh,
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: you know, you read muskrat articles, and most muskrat trapping
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: articles would include the need to leave behind some seed
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: right like the first pole, Like you make you set
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: up water body the first pole. You know, you get
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: sixty seventy of your traps, you're gonna have a muskrat
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: next day it's forty. And then instead of like sticking
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: around for the ten you just get out and leave
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: some there and then you come back next year and
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: everything's great. So that's like a way to think about
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: the ones that get in the holes is like you know,
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: when you dig a home, put a seed in it
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: that nature made that hole in its seed is in
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: the hole, and then yet leave it in there. I
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: haven't tried to sign my boy yep, but I'm gonna
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: try it on him. Hey is the guy named less
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Mayo here? No, he had he had an interesting story
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: that sounds like a fake namewich. I wouldn't think so,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: but the level of detail less Mayo extra Mustard also wrote,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: Here's why I don't think it's a fake name. Here's
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: why I don't think it's a fake name. The level
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: of detail he gets into about his situation in life
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: and whatnot led me to believe it's l E. S. Mayo.
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: Like Mayo clinic leads me to believe that it's that
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: uh did it's a person because it would have been
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: a laborate, no possible gain scenario to write in under it.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: He wasn't like, um, by the way, send me a
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: thousand dollars, I'm a crown, I'm the crown prince of right.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: He just guys throwing out an interesting thing on the
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: subject dip. He used to hang out with a ex convict,
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: and he was saying, the convicts like, if you got dip,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: they're concerned about sanitation. So this guy would carry plastic
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: spoons in his pocket, and whenever he took a dip,
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: he would take a spoon out, his clean spoon out
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: and spoon out a dip to put in his mouth.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: And he was always curious about this, But if someone
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: else asked him for a dip, he gets another clean
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: spoon out and you spoon out a dip and put
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: it in, and that way there's no cross contamination. And
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: in jail you can sell dips to people without having
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: people worry about where your hands have been, Like you're
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: selling single dip, single dip, you're selling spoonfuls of dip
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: to people. Also on the subject to dip, Ben Bailey
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: writes us in a Lot, a friend of ours writes
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: in a Lot about the comments. He was reading a
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: book Distant Summers, which is there's there's this explorer p J.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Down PG Downs, and he has a travelog about being
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: in northern Canada in the nineteen thirties doing river trips,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: and he talks about the Chippewan. Indians would make up
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: names for white people based on visual attributes. So they
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: like throw a nickname like Lavin eagle whatever, right, they
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: throw a nickname at people based on things. So there
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: was Ta Tootna, which was this guy, the little fellow.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: There was one guy he hung out with that you tobacco.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: He's a dipper, and the Indians called him the man
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: with two assholes, which I like tremendously on the subject
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: of on the subject Remember talking about someone in Texas
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: that was an overlyne I just didn't get it. Can
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: you explain it? You see now? Yeah? No, Um, that
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: was that was a special one for just the people
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: to get it. Remember talking about that. That's that we're
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: talking about a guy in Texas who had vowed to
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: and he was someone who was influential in popularizing food
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: plots just bringing a bell. I can't remember his name.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: There's a gentleman who was very influential and the and
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: conceiving of and popularizing and fine tuning food plots. Uh.
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: And his his latest thing is he's getting into he's
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: trying to grow Um, he's trying to grow a new
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: world record bass. But it's like if you're familiar in
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: for farm mank, like you can't farm, maybe they can't. Now.
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: When I was more familiar with the firm market, UM,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: it was just a known thing that you could not
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: in domestication capture the quality with domestic mank farm raised mank.
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: You couldn't capture the quality of a wild mink. There's
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: something about his lifestyle and diet and vigor. They would
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: produced a are more luxurious pelt. And no matter what
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: you did to make the conditions right with ranch mink,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: you couldn't make a ranch mink. A ranch mink was
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: like as good as a muskrat could never arranchment couldn't
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: aspire to a mink. And this thing with raising bass
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: as someone saying there's just something about large scale bodies
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: of water that provides so many things that a bass
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: needs throughout the year. And he's got like the Shmorges
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: board in different places to go and ways to find
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: the right temperature and optimize the situation. That it's actually
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: because I was like bemoaning the state of the world
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: that some guy would now produce a large mouth bass
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: and like a cement, you know, swimming pool or something
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: in some ichthyologists or pointing out that it's actually a
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: very difficult thing to do. It's like it's hard to
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: beat mother nature. Uh, it's not with bucks, but in fish,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: it's hard to beat mother nature. But this guy, uh,
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: one of my buddies who's a big waterfowl hunter. He
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: he was writing in about this reservoir and atch one
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: this is kind of screwed up lake. You might have
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: heard of this Count Diefenbaker. Yeah, you notice, like I
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: got offered a bartending job up there one time. Oddly enough,
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: I had no idea you're gonna bring that can after
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: I talk about this can you remember talk about your
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: fishing trip. So he's at Lake Diifenbocher and he's not
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: at it. But what happened is, I believe it's differ.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: Some group of folks has a genetically engineered trip Lloyd
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: rainbow trout that they're commercially raising. Okay, they're sterile and
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: they have them been growing pens somehow or another. In
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: a flooding event, five hundred thousand sterile genetically modified organism
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: rainbows get into the lake. They have three sets of
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: chromosomes instead of to. Their growth rate is much higher
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: than a nonaltered wild rainbow um since they never breathe,
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: they just focus in size. So this happens. Then a
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: guy shatters the world record in two thousand seven. In
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: two thousand nine, his twin brother crushes his world record
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: by five pounds. So now the new world record forty
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: eight pounds is a GMO sterile farm pond escaped rainbow.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Come on, Well, it's so weird because on the BC side,
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: the old triploid rainbow thing is huge. Like those fish
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: are in a bunch of different bodies of water, and
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: so I guess the difference here is like these were
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: reard specifically just to eat out of you know, farmed
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: a farm facility runs the cement run situation. But then
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: they got into the big lake. I've seen the page
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: didn't fact check him on. This's not gonna wring his
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: neck if it's not accurate. No, Well, I can all
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: I can say with out looking at the internet right
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: now is when I was up there, world record rainbow
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: had come out of the lake and it's like the
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: most slawbish, disgusting looking trout you've ever seen. But people
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: are super fired up on it and it's a cool.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: But but at what point is it not a fish?
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: He calls it a frank and fish. Yeah, what's a
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: huge lake, you know, So I think, like the hunting
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: of that fish in that lake, it's still gonna take
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: you some time to find find those fish, but you
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: agree that there's a point at which it ceases to
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: be a fish. If I made a robot, it looked
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: like a giant rainbow and it was fifty pounds. Would
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: you allow me in the world record. I mean, you're
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: not even comparing apples to oranges here that it's it's
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: like pomegranate and apples oranges. But you know what I'm saying,
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: there's a there's a point at which yes I do,
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: and you don't think that he's founded. Man, I are
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: like the most record books. Hunting has prevented the record
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: books from being infiltrated by imposters. Yeah yeah, although they
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: still try. Um boy, I don't. I don't recall anybody
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: ever actually actually caring about this. Um let me. So
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: you're saying the state of their stocksis fish too, I'm not.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: This is Saskatchewan in BC. Those triploid rainbows are all
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: over the place as just stockers, yep, as just like
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: a sport fishing opportunity because they're i mean they're huge,
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: and um they're pretty selective. You know, they're after like
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: all the micey shrimps. So people use really a Abrian
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: bomber set ups for him. But this is a big
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: body of water and it's an incredible waterfowl area. When
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: I had dogs, that's where it would go up and
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: and hunt them for quite a while. Every year and
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: if a farmer's duck got away. Um man, Yeah, I
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know. I don't know the answer,
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: but I feel like it needs to be poked and
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: prod of that and thought about, yes, there should be
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: an asterisk next to the world record. Yeah, they just says, hey,
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: this is she'd be like, hey, you know, heads up
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: before one get too excited. Well like in New Zealand,
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: you know and the oh you know that there is
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: in Indiana that kid killed the escaping farm deer like
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: somebody had a high offence operation as they do that
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: some deer got out kids sitting tree stamp on his
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: Indiana farm and shoots this like two some inch monster
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: buck that was quite with an ear tag in it.
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: I think they didn't call that a state record. If
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: if because it's a kid, I'd let him have the
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: state record. That's a cool kid. I went want to
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: ruin it for him. He'd be the new state record holder. Yeah,
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: but okay, that's completely hypocritical because you you have this
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: thing and everybody here will see this firsthand. Where Steve
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: believes that, uh, you know, our youth have an entire
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: life in which they can aspire to anything they want,
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: but are older folks in the room. You're gonna die,
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: so he may as well help you out while we can. Yeah,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: help you enjoy it while we can, and then the
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: younger folks will figure it out and they have time
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: to have someone in this late niff thing. These are
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: just like good old boys Saskatchewan farmers that are out
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: hunting these giant slabbish rainbows. So why give him the
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: world records? Did I have a birthday to night? You do?
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: Anybody got birthday tomorrow the next day? We need four
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: people who have birthdays and cons in order, Uh, we'll
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: get to that. You're fishing trip, you did like a quick,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: a little little you did a little text, Yeah, real
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: quick zip down to rock Port incredibly awesome. I had
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: a fantastic time. Uh zipped out and fished out of
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: a state park. They're uh Goose Island yea, And uh
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: didn't catch anything? No we oh yeah, yeah, nothing to see. Uh,
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: but I had a I mean, just had a great,
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: great time. Did some polling around. You guys have hard
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: bottom uh fishing out here, so you can get out
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: and wade. It's not like Louisiana, where if you tried
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: to wade sink up to your chim'd never see you again. Yeah, um,
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: and uh yeah, I had a great time chasing redfish
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: and uh got some pitched at some black drum and
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: uh have to get shots at Jack's at well trying
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: to Like conditions weren't perfect for that, too choppy or
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: too muddy. H just real intermittent son and and some
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: wind dich there too, so it was hard spotting fish.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: So you're hoping for like clear signed of make shadows
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: on the bottom and whatnot. Yeah, I just yeah, but
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: you're fantastic time and in really cool area. And got
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: to hang out with some local boys down there, and
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: one of which this dude Bobby, who's eight seven and
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: drives like seventy wherever he goes. And uh he found
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: out that Ryan Thompson and I had nothing to do
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: on Sunday. He's like, WHOA, sure you don't have anything
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: to do. It's like, I'll come by, just drive you around,
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: show you some stuff. And so I swung in, picked
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: us up, drove us all over for a couple of hours,
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: pointing out all sorts of local tidbits and facts and
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: breaking the speed limit everywhere we went. Um, did amazingly
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: well for eight seven. It was a great time. It's
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: really weird you tell that story because it reminds me
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: of thing to happen where in Miles City, Montana. We
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: used to live next to a guy named West Monsel
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: and he was eighty seven. And one day my brother
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: had a goal somewhere and he was telling us about
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: a bunch of horse mushrooms he saw in the field
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: and he just knew it somewhere between Miles City and Baker,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: which is a good stretch in West like this kind
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: of mushroom. So we drove and someone must pick someone
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: else wants to saw him and picked him because we
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: eventually make it all the way to Baker. On the
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: way home, and this is not a big road. On
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: the way home, West is driving ninety five. The car
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: is floating over the hills, and I'm thinking about how
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: old he is and how people at a certain point
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: could just pass away at any moment. And he gets
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: to telling me the reason we're driving so fast is
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: he's late. I'm gonna bring this thing full circle. This
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: is a true story. He's late for a doctor's appointment.
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: And then my mind's really wandering because I'm like, well,
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: what sort of health issue is West happened? It's so important.
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: He gets home in such a high rate of speed
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: and we're running late, and we go and he's like,
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: I'm not he can't even drop me off. He's like,
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna pull end up the doctor and then you
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: can just take my car back to your house and
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: come pick me up at the end and a half
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: hour or whatever. So I come back and pick him out.
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: In this point, I'm real curious and I'm like all
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: concerned for West's health and I'm like, so, West, what's
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: going on? And he explains that since he his wife
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: passed away, he realized that he's too old to lean
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: over and clipped his own tone nails and had a
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: doctor's appointment to get his tonnails caught. And that is
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: why me and West were driving down a curvy road
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: looking for mushrooms. Um, what was I getting at? Where
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: I was talking about the guy that wasn't here? Oh yeah,
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: we handled this thing. Here's another one we talked about.
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: Fair bit. I don't think people in Texas run flat
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: brim hats. I even noticed that, No, there's some flat
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: brimmers around to get flat flat brimmers in Texas. One
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: guy was saying that they were having the flat brim,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: curve brim baseball hat debate just on Merits, where one
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: guy was saying he runs a flat brim and he
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: feels it is better because you have more room for
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: your binoculars under there, which has always been my point
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: my sunglasses. That's why you go slightly flat to fit
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: your binos. But the other guy pointed out during a debate,
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: and they rode in about it. The other guy pointed out,
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: there with a curve brim, you can pull a Remmy
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: Warren where you conform your brim. This sounds complicated, but
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: it's not. You make your the curl of your hat
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: brim kind of conformed to the curve of your binos,
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: and then you put your hat on and make sure
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: it's on tight. And then when you hold your binos,
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: you also hold your hat brim and it's a stabilizer.
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: And he can't imagine that anyone would ever look through
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: binoculars without having his hands gripping his hat brim. Yes,
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: think about that. I like I used to think called
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: the triboten. Yeah, I like the flat brim when I'm
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: fishing because I have, you know, full coverage sunglasses and
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: then flat brand I feel like gives me more coverage,
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: Like it's more surface area, casting a bigger shadow on
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: your face. Yeah, and then you know, I just pitched
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: that thing on the dash and grab my regular role
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: kicking around hat. Cown hat. You took your ears up
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: in it. No sticker on the on the brim there.
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: I have a tiny, tiny head. So if I get
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: a hold of a hat after like, I'm kind of
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: stuck with that because apparently there's a great shortage of
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: p head sized hats out there. I'm usually wearing some
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: kind of Fedora or something ornate hat, you know, So
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: I say, it's a moving point to me. You kind
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: of open up up on all these things. Why do
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: some people put their ears inside the hat? Why am
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: I up on this? Does it function? Is there a function?
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: They got big ears? No, No, there's a functional reason.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: It's not like you're spending skin cancer on the tops
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: of your ears. That would be a good point, though, Yeah,
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: I got no answer for that. Big ears annoying. When
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: the wind flaps him around, you gotta tuck them in there.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: That would be logical. Actually thought that that might be
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: what it is you talk your ear and there and
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: you don't have to lose the top of your ear
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: to skin cancer. Guy rode in from St. Louis looking
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: for advice, ethical advice. Um. He lives out in the
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: country and he just moved to a new neighborhood and
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: it's there's neighborhood pond. And the way it works is
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: each person along the pond has one and a half
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: acres joining up right, you can picture on top about
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: joining up to the pond. The pond is seven acres.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: He he has a homeowners association. There's nothing in the
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: h o A about firearms or hunting or nothing. You
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: see where this is going. Oh yeah, they've they've got
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: geese and mallard using the lake legally. He realizes that
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: here doing his homework legally and whatever you call h
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: o A law. He feels as though he's a okay
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: in the clear to go out and hunt. And he's wondering.
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: He says, I feel it is better to ask for
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: forgiveness rather than rather than permission. But quote wanted your
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: guys opinion. I was first as he lived in Texas.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: He's cutting that ship out of him every day. Man
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: more I think about it that I was thinking there's
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: other ways about it. My initial thought was there's only
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: one way that he's gonna get one good hunt, and
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: that's by just going for it first um and getting
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: after him. Because then at the next h o A meeting,
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: there's gonna be some covenants hunting in that pond. Right,
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: So at least that way you get one good hunting.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: Because if you go ask around, it depends on who
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: your neighbors are a board. Maybe if you went how
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: many people are there, how many how many different half
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: watchers club? I bet someone who's really good at math
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: could figure out how many neighbors there are if each
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: neighbor owns one and a half acres and it's a
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: seven acre pond. But you get into a lot of
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: questions about the shape of these but I doubt the
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: properties are pie shaped. Well, you might start off I
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: just going to all your neighbors and hand them each
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: a nice goose pstromy breast all done up came from, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: and that that's kind of the direction I was leaning, like,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: you better get your game, get your house in order, right. So, No,
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: when your next homeowners association meeting is at which point,
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: these rules are definitely gonna change. And you give yourself
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: enough time to like cure up smoke cone fee and
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: you know, get a good spread laid out for the
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: meeting everybody I brought and say it do go on
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: and they eat it. You're like, guess what that was
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: my advice? There's like I could do the like long
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: a long version of advice and my beby he could
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: start talking about he could spread pamphlets out they are
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: like the enormous health risks associated with with with goose droppings.
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: But propaganda, get get ahold of whoever like generates fake
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: news articles and having right things like the number one
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: killer of American children is It would be so easy
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: to target because because every h o A now has
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: like their own Facebook group, so it'd be very easy
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: to target the right people. But you could, you could
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: do that. But but my like, just to answer what
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: he's asking, and I'm not just saying I'm saying this
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: as a homeowner, I'm saying this as a person who
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: cares about um the hunters and hunters rights and our
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: ongoing ability to to have the lifestyle that we so
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: much enjoy, I would say that I feel that he
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: should um, he should do a little tour, he should
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: do a little tour around the lake doing for the kids,
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: and and kind of layout what is planning, how he's
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: sort of thinking this is gonna go down, and what
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: his plan is, and do the do the permission rather
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: than forgiveness approach, Like about five thirty, I'm gonna slip
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: out there and set a bunch of decoys about six
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: fift you're gonna hear you don't know it's me. I
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: won't bore you with what happens after that, but but
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: you know, you get the gist, uh final thing quickly
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: and talking about oh gotta yeah, I gotta do our
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: birthdays most of you gotta do quickly and talk about
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: though first is um Cows just pointing out to me
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: that on the same newsday down here in Dallas, there
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: was a story not down here in Dallas, but down
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: here in Texas, the story of of also the Wallaby
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: just happens be walking down the road in Dallas on
