- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's Mark Simone. Welcome to the bonus segment for
- 0:03Speaker 1: all of you podcast listeners. You get an extra show
- 0:05Speaker 1: every week. Now, remember we're talking weeks ago, actually months ago,
- 0:11Speaker 1: when Gavin Newsom was all over the place and he
- 0:14Speaker 1: was apparently the guy for twenty twenty eight. He was
- 0:17Speaker 1: the front runner. Gavin Newsom. Well, I told you there's
- 0:21Speaker 1: a history of this in Democratic presidential races. There's always
- 0:29Speaker 1: three four years out. There's always some pretty boy who's running,
- 0:33Speaker 1: who seems to be the front runner. The pretty boy.
- 0:36Speaker 1: At one time it was John Edwards, at one time
- 0:38Speaker 1: it was Gary Hart. And these guys always fizzle out.
- 0:42Speaker 1: They have a hot year and then as it gets
- 0:45Speaker 1: within a year or two of the election, they fade
- 0:47Speaker 1: away and they're gone. They never make it. Gavin Newsom
- 0:51Speaker 1: is beginning to fade away. Now, huge blow for Gavin
- 0:55Speaker 1: Newsom this week as new polls came out, a bunch
- 0:58Speaker 1: of Democratic polls, fourteen major polls came out showing Newsom
- 1:04Speaker 1: way behind Kamala Harris. Kamala Harris has risen up. Now,
- 1:09Speaker 1: these are major Democratic polls. Here's one where Harris is
- 1:14Speaker 1: seven points ahead. Here's one where Harris is eighteen points ahead.
- 1:20Speaker 1: So I think that's it for Gavin Newsom. He doesn't
- 1:23Speaker 1: really come back from this. And also remember he's got
- 1:26Speaker 1: nothing but trouble coming as far as California and disastrous
- 1:31Speaker 1: things economy, all that stuff. He's getting caught now with
- 1:35Speaker 1: all the medicaid fraud all over the state. Medicaid funding
- 1:38Speaker 1: has been cut. So it's good, it's going to be
- 1:40Speaker 1: a messy. That'll be it for Gavin Newsom. Now we've
- 1:43Speaker 1: had it's a beautiful weekend this weekend, but we've had
- 1:47Speaker 1: some strange weather, the heat wave, the Canadian wildfire, the
- 1:52Speaker 1: disgusting area couldn't breathe. But in Europe they had a
- 1:56Speaker 1: really brutal heat wave. We got up to one hundred
- 1:58Speaker 1: they got up to one hundred and four degrees in Europe.
- 2:02Speaker 1: But just in France alone, you know, almost six thousand
- 2:05Speaker 1: people died in the heat wave. The problem is they
- 2:08Speaker 1: don't use air conditioning there. There's very little air conditioning
- 2:12Speaker 1: in for instance, Paris. You know, you see those beautiful old,
- 2:15Speaker 1: old old buildings, they're magnificent looking, but they don't have
- 2:19Speaker 1: any air conditioning. And even the new ones, it's just
- 2:23Speaker 1: the climate change idiots in France convinced everybody that you
- 2:28Speaker 1: should not have air conditioning. It's bad for the environment. No,
- 2:32Speaker 1: most people in France don't have air conditioning, and as
- 2:37Speaker 1: a result, six thousand have died. You know, you've had
- 2:41Speaker 1: forest fires, and you've had tornadoes and hurricanes. The weather
- 2:46Speaker 1: incidents that kill the most people are heat waves, not
- 2:50Speaker 1: the other stuff. More people die in heat waves than
- 2:53Speaker 1: in hurricanes or tornadoes or floods or any of that stuff.
- 2:58Speaker 1: So rough time in France. Hey, Ukraine, Russia invades Ukraine.
- 3:04Speaker 1: You got the Russia Ukraine War. Now, we always thought
- 3:07Speaker 1: Russia was the big superpower, unbelievable military, They're unable to
- 3:12Speaker 1: make a lot of progress in Ukraine. Got to give
- 3:14Speaker 1: these Ukrainians credit. Got to give Zelinsky credit. Guy's been
- 3:18Speaker 1: brilliant first couple of years of the war, totally dependent
- 3:21Speaker 1: on the US for money for weapons. But slowly but
- 3:24Speaker 1: surely he builds his own weapons factories in the Ukraine.
- 3:28Speaker 1: The big weapon now is a drone, military drone. He
- 3:33Speaker 1: creates factories that can build them. They make the best drones,
- 3:36Speaker 1: the most advanced drones. At some point we're going to
- 3:38Speaker 1: be buying drones from the Ukraine in the middle of
- 3:40Speaker 1: this war. Somehow they got all these factories that they're
- 3:43Speaker 1: turning out drones by the thousands and them using them
- 3:47Speaker 1: against Russia. They've been attacking Russia oil facilities, power plants
- 3:52Speaker 1: well over. This week, they hit Russia's biggest online retailer.
- 3:58Speaker 1: It's a company that's well really it's the Amazon of Russia.
- 4:03Speaker 1: It's like the Amazon of Russia. So the Ukraine hit
- 4:07Speaker 1: this company's warehouses and distribution centers. It's also the biggest
- 4:12Speaker 1: employer in RUSSI employees hundreds of thousands of people. So
- 4:17Speaker 1: the damage. Now, imagine if we took out Amazon, the
- 4:21Speaker 1: whole supply chain of most people is gone instantly. It's
- 4:26Speaker 1: the biggest employer and culturally, psychologically, it's incredible damage. The
- 4:33Speaker 1: collateral damage from these strikes will have a major impact
- 4:38Speaker 1: on the Russian economy as well as a psychological effect.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It's unbelievable that the Ukrainians have pulled this off, and
- 4:47Speaker 1: the Ukrainian President Zelenski defends the attack. Now, it is
- 4:51Speaker 1: a retailer, you know, but he said, they do supply
- 4:58Speaker 1: drone components, navigation equipment, other gear used by the military,
- 5:03Speaker 1: So that's the justification. That way, they're being officially declared
- 5:07Speaker 1: a military target. But it's a tremendous, tremendous blow to
- 5:12Speaker 1: Russia and just another sign of how much progress they're
- 5:18Speaker 1: going to make here at some point. I mean, if
- 5:20Speaker 1: they keep this up, they're going to win. You imagine
- 5:23Speaker 1: Russia having a surrender to the Ukraine. Hey, Bill Maher
- 5:26Speaker 1: deserves a lot of credit for speaking the truth a lot.
- 5:30Speaker 1: You know, sometimes you don't agree with what he says,
- 5:32Speaker 1: but on the democratic side there I can't think of
- 5:35Speaker 1: anybody else who's been brave enough to say the things
- 5:37Speaker 1: he said. And he won the Mark Twain Award. He's
- 5:41Speaker 1: doing a lot of interviews in podcasts, but this one
- 5:43Speaker 1: was interesting. He just said, to all the liberals, all
- 5:45Speaker 1: the Democrats, stop attacking Trump for his personality, for his
- 5:51Speaker 1: personal antics. He said, you got to get used to it. Marcid,
- 5:55Speaker 1: you're still obsessing about his personality. Well, that's on you.
- 6:00Speaker 1: He focusing on these personality things that you've been talking
- 6:03Speaker 1: about him for ten years. It's the way he does things,
- 6:05Speaker 1: it's the way he talks, it's who he is. Lamar
- 6:09Speaker 1: went on the list a litany of other just surface
- 6:12Speaker 1: level Trump controversies that have nothing to do with anything
- 6:17Speaker 1: and don't impact anybody's lives. You're just wasting time. You're
- 6:22Speaker 1: crying wolf too many times. You're arguing about these absurd
- 6:26Speaker 1: topics that most people will never get worked up over.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Stop it. It's true. You know, every day, every day
- 6:34Speaker 1: the fake news, the Democrats try to come up with
- 6:37Speaker 1: something Trump did wrong. Look what he said, Look what
- 6:41Speaker 1: he talked about. Look at the word he used, Look
- 6:43Speaker 1: at it. It doesn't mean anything. You've done it every
- 6:46Speaker 1: day for eleven years now, NonStop, every day at not working.
- 6:52Speaker 1: If you got a play that doesn't work, what quarterback
- 6:56Speaker 1: would keep calling that play after ten years of it
- 6:58Speaker 1: never ever ever worked one? Hey, yeah, these Wall Street guys,
- 7:02Speaker 1: these hedge fund guys, you know, they make so much
- 7:04Speaker 1: money when they get interested in something. So if you
- 7:08Speaker 1: go way out to the end of the Hamptons, that's Montalk,
- 7:11Speaker 1: and Montalk is like a fishing village, tuna fishing, you know,
- 7:16Speaker 1: And if you go out there, there's these tuna fishermen,
- 7:18Speaker 1: you know, like fourth generation they fish tuna and it's
- 7:22Speaker 1: a big business you make. They make good money doing that.
- 7:25Speaker 1: You know, if you get a big, huge tuna, you
- 7:27Speaker 1: sell it for like four thousand dollars. If you get
- 7:30Speaker 1: a really big thousand pound tuna, you get ten thousand
- 7:33Speaker 1: dollars for it. So if you're in one of these
- 7:35Speaker 1: village fishermen fourth generations, that's the way you make a
- 7:38Speaker 1: good living. Well. You know how something gets hot on Instagram,
- 7:43Speaker 1: like a certain restaurant, a certain donut or Doc dot cake,
- 7:47Speaker 1: and every kid is lining up for that. Well, the
- 7:50Speaker 1: same thing happens with these finance bros, these hedge fund guys.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Apparently I don't know who started this, but on Instagram,
- 7:57Speaker 1: on the instagrams they always see. The big thing became
- 8:01Speaker 1: tuna fishing, and somebody started this on Instagram. It went
- 8:06Speaker 1: viral among the hedge fund financial guys and now they're
- 8:10Speaker 1: all into tuna fishing. So they have invaded Montalk and
- 8:14Speaker 1: they're spending a fortune on fishing equipment. They're spending a
- 8:18Speaker 1: fortune on boats, and they're out there catching fish. They're
- 8:22Speaker 1: catching tuna like crazy, and it's killing these local fishermen.
- 8:26Speaker 1: These guys are out there catching all the fish and
- 8:30Speaker 1: they couldn't care less about the money. For the most part,
- 8:32Speaker 1: they're not even really using it. It became a really
- 8:36Speaker 1: hot thing. ESPN I Think started it on its TikTok
- 8:39Speaker 1: account and it's showing up everywhere tuna fishing. It became
- 8:44Speaker 1: the elite latest fad. They're all running out there to
- 8:47Speaker 1: do it. Local fishermen don't know what hit them. The
- 8:52Speaker 1: only good news I can tell you fishermen out there
- 8:54Speaker 1: is these guys. They'll do it for a few months.
- 8:57Speaker 1: They'll do it, maybe for the rest of the season.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Something else will come along, another fad they'll move on
- 9:02Speaker 1: to that. Hey, Journey, the group Journey. I was never
- 9:09Speaker 1: a big Journey fan. But Jonathan Kane, one of the
- 9:15Speaker 1: great rock and roll stars. He's in Journey attacking Bruce
- 9:18Speaker 1: Springsteen like crazy. Now it turns out, Kine, there are
- 9:22Speaker 1: a lot of rock and roll guys that are conservatives.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Kane said, I'm a conservative through and through, and he
- 9:27Speaker 1: said Springsteen has got to stop. He's an annoying, bitter
- 9:31Speaker 1: old man with his political rants at concerts. He should
- 9:35Speaker 1: shut up. Same thing for Robert DeNiro, who cares what
- 9:39Speaker 1: you think about politics? Do your art, keep your politics
- 9:42Speaker 1: out of things. You know, this is not the first
- 9:45Speaker 1: guy to do this. Mick Jagger about two weeks ago,
- 9:47Speaker 1: same thing. He said, it's a concert people are there
- 9:50Speaker 1: to have fun and be entertained. It's they're there for
- 9:53Speaker 1: joy and fun. Don't start telling them how awful everything
- 9:57Speaker 1: is and whining and grandstanding and denouncing. It's a concert.
- 10:01Speaker 1: You're there to entertain. Just entertain him. Caine added to say,
- 10:05Speaker 1: said the same thing. Chief goal for artists make people
- 10:09Speaker 1: feel happy and united. You're not there to divide them.
- 10:13Speaker 1: And Paul McCartney said, Hey, when I sing hate you,
- 10:15Speaker 1: Democrats and Republicans all sing together. It's the same way
- 10:19Speaker 1: with this. Make people happy. Don't whine and yell and
- 10:23Speaker 1: scream and rant and rave like a bitter old man
- 10:27Speaker 1: at a concert. Good good advice for Springsteen. Hey, people
- 10:30Speaker 1: ask all the time Eric Adams. What happened to Eric Adams?
- 10:33Speaker 1: You know, may not have been the greatest mayor, but
- 10:36Speaker 1: he's a you know, charming guy. He's good personality. You
- 10:38Speaker 1: think he'd be all over TV and doing stuff nobody
- 10:41Speaker 1: sees him. Turns out, Adams retirement hobbies, travel, crypto and woodworking.
- 10:48Speaker 1: He's been traveling a lot. Went to Dubai, he went
- 10:51Speaker 1: to China, and went to Ethiopia. He went to Georgia
- 10:55Speaker 1: and he became an Albanian citizen. All this traveling. Now
- 10:58Speaker 1: he is Eric Adams. I love guy, but there might
- 11:01Speaker 1: be some lucrative reasons to go to these places. Who
- 11:04Speaker 1: knows what he's up to. The woodworking, well, he's building
- 11:08Speaker 1: a bookshelf with lumber from home depot. A lot of crypto.
- 11:16Speaker 1: You know, you can make a lot of money. These politicians,
- 11:18Speaker 1: Your politician, are all kinds of ways to pass some
- 11:22Speaker 1: money onto you. Put you on a board, this kind
- 11:25Speaker 1: of stuff, pay you for speech. Now. The big thing
- 11:28Speaker 1: is crypto. So he's been involved in a lot of crypto.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Who knows what that's all about. Hey, you know these
- 11:34Speaker 1: are casinos coming to New York. The Resorts World casino
- 11:38Speaker 1: that'll be the Aqueduct Racetrack casino is expanding. They're going
- 11:45Speaker 1: to build another, not just the first hotel, a second
- 11:49Speaker 1: four hundred room hotel, tower, seven thousand person concert arena.
- 11:55Speaker 1: It's five billion. They're spending five billion dollars on expansion.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Five billion. And this is not just expansion. And when
- 12:02Speaker 1: they get done with this, they expect it to be
- 12:06Speaker 1: the largest gaming resort in the United States, bigger than
- 12:09Speaker 1: anything in Las Vegas. Total of it in this casino
- 12:15Speaker 1: will pay ten billion a year in state in local taxes,
- 12:18Speaker 1: So that's good news. New York Mets owner Steve Cohen
- 12:21Speaker 1: and hard Rock they're planning a city field, a casino
- 12:25Speaker 1: complex called Metropolitan Park. Bally's is going to open in
- 12:30Speaker 1: the Bronx Casino. Bronx Casino, you know when you go
- 12:32Speaker 1: over the throgs Neck and there's a golf course there.
- 12:35Speaker 1: They're going to open there. But apparently the Aquita Casino
- 12:40Speaker 1: is going to be the single biggest in the United States. Hey,
- 12:44Speaker 1: everywhere you look, everybody's on ozempic. Everybody's shrinking down. They're
- 12:47Speaker 1: on one of those ozempic type shots. But the result
- 12:51Speaker 1: of that is people don't eat as much. They don't
- 12:52Speaker 1: even drink as much. You know, you lose your appetite
- 12:55Speaker 1: for both. So restaurants are making smaller portions. They're making
- 12:59Speaker 1: legos zempic portions. And the new thing now is small
- 13:03Speaker 1: drinks bars and eateries, many cocktails, many martini's, many baby Negroni's.
- 13:11Speaker 1: They have to do this now because people can't finish
- 13:15Speaker 1: the whole thing. So what used to be considered a
- 13:17Speaker 1: shot in a shot class, that'll be now like a
- 13:19Speaker 1: regular drink. For a lot of people. That also means
- 13:21Speaker 1: you got to charge less, but that's what happens. Hey,
- 13:25Speaker 1: thanks for listening. This is the bonus segment now. Of course,
- 13:28Speaker 1: you can hear me live Tend to Noon every weekday,
- 13:31Speaker 1: or get the podcast any place you get podcasts. Mark
- 13:34Speaker 1: Simone here, Thanks for listening.
