- 0:00Speaker 1: The way that Oscar Fisker Mullguard played in preseason. I
- 0:05Speaker 1: think it was John Forsland who called him Dentty Moore, just,
- 0:08Speaker 1: you know, a nice meat and potatoes stew right, like
- 0:12Speaker 1: he's gonna work hard for you. And I think he's
- 0:16Speaker 1: you know, you were saying Mike that that he's pretty close.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Welcome to Kracking this morning, a presentation of the Kraken
- 0:23Speaker 2: Audio Network Ken Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ

- 0:29Speaker 4: What you heard off the top is a conversation revolving
- 0:31Speaker 4: around Oscar Fisker Mulguard called up down to the Kraken.
- 0:35Speaker 4: Could his NHL debut be around the corner. We'll find
- 0:38Speaker 4: out tonight when the kra Can take on the Chicago

- 0:50Speaker 4: Thanksgiving checkpoint with a pretty solid record. This Stan's currently
- 0:53Speaker 4: nine to five and five twenty three points on the season.
- 0:57Speaker 4: And this is how type matters are right now. They're
- 0:59Speaker 4: technical a point out of a playoffs spot, but only
- 1:02Speaker 4: three points back a first place Sannaheim in the Pacific Division,
- 1:07Speaker 4: a ton of parody and a ton still yet to
- 1:10Speaker 4: be resolved here for this season as they stand one
- 1:13Speaker 4: point back of Chicago the Blackhawks ten to five and
- 1:17Speaker 4: four with twenty four points on the campaign. Well, have
- 1:19Speaker 4: a conversation with Blackhawks radio voice John Widaman coming up
- 1:23Speaker 4: later on here. The evolution of Connor Bedard now wearing
- 1:26Speaker 4: a letter on his jersey, A couple of familiar faces
- 1:30Speaker 4: producing for Chicago, and what have we learned from the
- 1:34Speaker 4: first matchup when the Kraken beat the Blackhawks three to
- 1:37Speaker 4: one earlier this month at Climate Pledge Arena. The rematch
- 1:41Speaker 4: is coming up. John Widaman coming up as well here
- 1:44Speaker 4: on Kraken this morning. Before we get to him, here's
- 1:48Speaker 4: al matters turned out last time out, with the Kraken
- 1:51Speaker 4: facing Detroit in the opener of the four game road
- 1:54Speaker 4: trip and looking to build early on.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Nanler Stevens at far circle.
- 1:59Speaker 5: Now Tolben, it's down his shot for the slot, pit balls.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Off the skate.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Stevenson will save it, now tall that it fires, knocked down,
- 2:06Speaker 5: loose puck in front.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Aberly scores.
- 2:11Speaker 5: Fifty eight seconds to play here in the period Jordan
- 2:15Speaker 5: every finishes.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Off the power play goal.
- 2:18Speaker 5: It's a one nothing Seattle cracking lead.
- 2:21Speaker 6: All starts with a one timer by Toll at the
- 2:23Speaker 6: top of the circles, big rebounds giving up that. Maddy
- 2:25Speaker 6: Beneer's finds. He knows he's got Everyly on the back door,
- 2:28Speaker 6: slides it over to him, easy taping for the captain.
- 2:31Speaker 6: One nothing practice.
- 2:33Speaker 5: Raymond right circles shoots the card made the same, but
- 2:37Speaker 5: it trickles through.
- 2:38Speaker 3: They score.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Joey the card got eighty five percent of that shot,
- 2:51Speaker 5: but Raymond put too much English.
- 2:54Speaker 1: On it and the wings tie the gate. He hands
- 2:56Speaker 1: it off the far side.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Patrick Kine will send it in behind the.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Cracking goal Wrecker evds there for Seattle.
- 3:04Speaker 3: It takes it away. Now back to the Airline. Shot
- 3:06Speaker 3: Tech scores.
- 3:10Speaker 5: Axel Sandean Pellica from the Airline.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Nae Daniel sit in the tip.
- 3:16Speaker 5: That's the first goal of his National Hockey League career.
- 3:20Speaker 3: The Red Legs go back to back.
- 3:21Speaker 6: They'll take a two to one lead.
- 3:23Speaker 1: They'll hands it Al Kartzier.
- 3:25Speaker 5: A cat to tolling it up top. Ker Evins shot
- 3:28Speaker 5: tip twos. Riker Evans a left point shot redirected in
- 3:37Speaker 5: in front and the Seattle Crackett retie the game twelve
- 3:41Speaker 5: thirty four to play in the second twos a side.
- 3:44Speaker 6: It was a great feed back to the point where
- 3:46Speaker 6: Recor Everds was and he waited a beat for traffic
- 3:48Speaker 6: to get in front. Caton was there, other line weights
- 3:51Speaker 6: were there. It was double levels and screens and it
- 3:53Speaker 6: beats Talbot on that blocker side. Download this game's tied
- 3:56Speaker 6: at two.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Wings on the power play, they scull.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Emmett Fitty or to your final score as Detroit turning
- 4:04Speaker 4: this game on it's head in period two with a
- 4:06Speaker 4: pair of goals less than one minute apart. Lucas Raymond
- 4:10Speaker 4: and Nate Danielson, who scored his first career NHL goal,
- 4:13Speaker 4: put the Red Wings up to one just two to
- 4:16Speaker 4: four into the second period, before Riker Evans tied things
- 4:20Speaker 4: up and Emmett Finney eventually parking the game winning goal
- 4:24Speaker 4: at ten fifty six a period two, tacked on by
- 4:27Speaker 4: Dylan Larkin's empty net goal. So the crack and looking
- 4:31Speaker 4: to get in a bounced back mode, reckoning with the
- 4:33Speaker 4: matters that plagued them on Tuesday in Detroit. Here's the
- 4:37Speaker 4: reaction after the game from crackenhead coach Lane Lambert.
- 4:41Speaker 7: I don't think we had everyone going, and we can't
- 4:44Speaker 7: afford to have anybody not going. So you know, we
- 4:49Speaker 7: were we were okay in the game, but you know,
- 4:55Speaker 7: not good enough to win the hockey game, you know,
- 4:58Speaker 7: so you know there's certain things and certain reasons for that,
- 5:03Speaker 7: but certainly I thought we could have been better.
- 5:06Speaker 8: The Red Wings are very strong in the second period.
- 5:09Speaker 8: Was there anything in particular that you saw from them
- 5:11Speaker 8: to kind of explain and being able to score three there?
- 5:14Speaker 7: Well, I knew, you know, we knew going in they
- 5:15Speaker 7: had a they have like a plus sixty two shot
- 5:18Speaker 7: differential in a second Gary before, you know, before the game,
- 5:22Speaker 7: and you know, I think, you know, I think Joey
- 5:25Speaker 7: probably wants the first one back. So that's one we
- 5:29Speaker 7: don't box out on the second one, which you know
- 5:32Speaker 7: goes into our net. You know, we get a great
- 5:35Speaker 7: call from our video coach to overturn the third one
- 5:38Speaker 7: and get you know, get a goal to tie the game,
- 5:41Speaker 7: and then we make a mistake on the penalty kill
- 5:43Speaker 7: that we can't make, you know what I mean, that's
- 5:46Speaker 7: the bottom line. It's a mistake you can't make. It's
- 5:48Speaker 7: not We're not asking anything else other than proper positioning.
- 5:53Speaker 8: This is a team that's been able to battle back
- 5:55Speaker 8: late in games, late in the third period as well.
- 5:57Speaker 8: Were you happy with the effort that you saw lateness, Well, there's.
- 6:01Speaker 7: Always effort, right. Our guys work, you know, they to me,
- 6:05Speaker 7: they they work and they give it everything they have.
- 6:09Speaker 7: I didn't think we shot the puck enough in the
- 6:11Speaker 7: third period. Again, we're you know, we're playing against the
- 6:13Speaker 7: team that's man on man in the d zone for
- 6:15Speaker 7: the most part, and you got to find a way
- 6:17Speaker 7: to put the puck to the net and and you know,
- 6:20Speaker 7: find a way to get a greasy goal. And I
- 6:22Speaker 7: don't think we attempted enough shots, not only in the
- 6:25Speaker 7: third but all night long.
- 6:26Speaker 6: Then you mentioned the video review.
- 6:28Speaker 9: Did they call that right away and tell you they
- 6:30Speaker 9: thought it was offside?
- 6:33Speaker 7: Oh, they need a little bit of time to look
- 6:35Speaker 7: at it, but you know they were fairly certain. They
- 6:38Speaker 7: just wanted to see if they could get a different angle.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Down the right wing.
- 6:42Speaker 5: But ears up top, Alexiak steps in on the high slot,
- 6:45Speaker 5: fires and scores shamei. Alesiak steps into a bomber just
- 6:52Speaker 5: outside the high slot and with fourteen seventeen to player
- 6:56Speaker 5: in the second. We're tied at one here in Vancouver.
- 7:00Speaker 6: Me Alexiak, he's a big guy. Just mentioned him, keeping
- 7:02Speaker 6: the puck in and he lets a rocket go from
- 7:05Speaker 6: just inside the blue line like shooting a mashed potato
- 7:08Speaker 6: gun at a mashed potato party.
- 7:09Speaker 4: A big milestone around the corner for the big rig.
- 7:13Speaker 4: Jamie Alexiak has played in six hundred and ninety nine
- 7:16Speaker 4: games in his NHL career. Tonight is scheduled for game
- 7:20Speaker 4: number seven hundred against the Chicago Blackhawks. With Alexiak still
- 7:24Speaker 4: around as one of the original founding members on the
- 7:27Speaker 4: Crack and roster, you could say, taking a course in
- 7:30Speaker 4: the expansion draft back in twenty twenty one, and carving
- 7:33Speaker 4: a role on the Crack and roster as a large,
- 7:35Speaker 4: shutdown defenseman with skating and shop blocking capabilities. Here's Alexiyak
- 7:41Speaker 4: in our conversation from Me the Kraken and of course
- 7:43Speaker 4: Nightly during the first intermissions plus podcasted.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Right here on the iHeartRadio.
- 7:48Speaker 4: App beginning with his meaning of playing in Seattle at
- 7:51Speaker 4: this stage of his career.
- 7:53Speaker 10: It's mental out to me. I think the city's really
- 7:56Speaker 10: grown on me, and you see the passion of the fans.
- 7:59Speaker 10: You know, when you drive around Seattle, you see cracking
- 8:02Speaker 10: gear everywhere, and it's super special and we want to
- 8:06Speaker 10: make sure that we show out for our fan base
- 8:09Speaker 10: and bring a good product on the ice, and we're
- 8:12Speaker 10: excited to get it going this year.
- 8:13Speaker 3: What did you learn.
- 8:13Speaker 4: About yourself at the stage of your career be able
- 8:15Speaker 4: to get in eighty two games for the second straight year.
- 8:19Speaker 10: It's like we talked about. I think nutrition is a
- 8:21Speaker 10: big thing I kind of realized, especially in terms of
- 8:23Speaker 10: longevity and consistency and just making sure day and day
- 8:26Speaker 10: out you feel good, making sure you're eating the right things.
- 8:29Speaker 10: And you know, oh, Wes, we have a pretty demanding
- 8:35Speaker 10: travel schedule, so making sure that you're doing little things
- 8:37Speaker 10: to kind of take care of your body, stretching, cold tubs,
- 8:40Speaker 10: you know, all those well known routines, and yeah, I
- 8:46Speaker 10: think again, you kind of have to just be aware
- 8:48Speaker 10: of the schedule, be aware of what's coming up, and
- 8:50Speaker 10: prepare accordingly.
- 8:51Speaker 3: What's the best way to reset in the off season.
- 8:53Speaker 10: Then, I mean be I say a little bit in
- 8:56Speaker 10: Seattle and the offseason and just being outside is incredible.
- 8:59Speaker 10: I think it's it really is. I guess grounding, you know,
- 9:02Speaker 10: as what they call it when you're when you're out
- 9:03Speaker 10: there on hikes or on the water, or you know,
- 9:06Speaker 10: there's no shorte of things to do outside here. It's
- 9:08Speaker 10: really tough to beat. So I think for me personally,
- 9:11Speaker 10: that's a that's a key experience.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Man, all right, cracking in Blackhawks coming up and help
- 9:17Speaker 4: us get set. Our friend John Wademan joining us here
- 9:20Speaker 4: longtime radio played by a play voice of the Blackhawks
- 9:23Speaker 4: on WGN Radio in Chicago. Joining us now, John, Good
- 9:27Speaker 4: to hear from you once again. Great to see you
- 9:28Speaker 4: earlier this month.
- 9:30Speaker 3: What I really.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Appreciate you me our stories ever at fits us in
- 9:35Speaker 4: this boat. Our mutual friend James Stuckey as well. Back
- 9:38Speaker 4: in the crack and equipment side, you can always appreciate
- 9:42Speaker 4: the climb you go up the ladder before you reach
- 9:45Speaker 4: the NHL. So what's your favorite story coming up in
- 9:49Speaker 4: the minor league ranks?
- 9:50Speaker 9: Well, I have a number of them, and Mike. For
- 9:53Speaker 9: me to single one out, I think I would be
- 9:56Speaker 9: not doing justice to any of the others. So what
- 9:58Speaker 9: I will share with your listeners and you as a
- 10:01Speaker 9: story that did involve Jim back when I was handling
- 10:05Speaker 9: the radio for the Cincinnati Cyclones. I used to, you know,
- 10:10Speaker 9: as a lot of broadcasters will, they're hockey people and
- 10:13Speaker 9: they play hockey. And so Jim Stuckey used to host
- 10:16Speaker 9: to skate over in a building called the Cincinnati Gardens.
- 10:20Speaker 9: And the Cincinnati Gardens was an arena where the Cincinnati
- 10:23Speaker 9: Mighty Ducks played. They had the head coach Mike Babcock there,
- 10:27Speaker 9: and a number of players came through and got to
- 10:29Speaker 9: the NHL. Well, stock were arranged for us to get
- 10:32Speaker 9: the ice on a Monday night and we go over
- 10:36Speaker 9: and we escaped. Didn't matter that I worked with the Cyclones.
- 10:39Speaker 9: I was a guy that liked to play hockey, and
- 10:41Speaker 9: it was a good group of guys, so we get together. Well,
- 10:44Speaker 9: this particular night, I didn't have a shield on the
- 10:46Speaker 9: helmet and I was in a corner taking the puck
- 10:50Speaker 9: away from a friend of mine. And I turned to
- 10:53Speaker 9: my right with the puck, and my friend really wasn't
- 10:57Speaker 9: one of those guys that liked to skate to you
- 10:59Speaker 9: in order to defend you. He liked to reach with
- 11:01Speaker 9: his stick. So as I'm pulling the puck away, my
- 11:06Speaker 9: friend reaches with his stick to try and lift my
- 11:08Speaker 9: stick and take the puck back and he misses my stick,
- 11:11Speaker 9: but he didn't miss my face and he hit me.
- 11:15Speaker 9: He hit me in the upper lip, really on the
- 11:20Speaker 9: on the flesh area where your mustache would grow, and
- 11:25Speaker 9: cut me open. And I didn't know how bad the
- 11:29Speaker 9: cut was. I just felt like somebody punched me in
- 11:31Speaker 9: the face. And I'm going great, you know, now, I
- 11:33Speaker 9: got a deal with this. You know, I just thought
- 11:35Speaker 9: it was going to be something that I'll put a
- 11:37Speaker 9: band aid onitor, you know, maybe a butterfly. I'll be fine.
- 11:41Speaker 9: I skate over by the guy that was playing goal,
- 11:43Speaker 9: who was a paramedic, and he looked at me and
- 11:45Speaker 9: he goes, wait a minute, Wait a minute. He says,
- 11:47Speaker 9: go right now, because he could see blood just coursing
- 11:50Speaker 9: out of my mouth, and are you serious? Yeah, And
- 11:55Speaker 9: I'm wearing a white I was wearing a white Montreal
- 11:57Speaker 9: Canadians pattern sweater. It's just one that I had in
- 12:00Speaker 9: my hockey bag. And I had blood from really the
- 12:07Speaker 9: top of the D at the bottom of the D
- 12:09Speaker 9: with D in the neck is all the way down
- 12:11Speaker 9: to the bottom of the sweater. And my buddy, the goaltender, says,
- 12:17Speaker 9: go right now because you probably have hit an artery.
- 12:20Speaker 9: I'm going, oh great, So in my hockey equipment. All
- 12:24Speaker 9: I could do, Mike is take my skates off. So
- 12:27Speaker 9: I get into this guy's truck. I can't even remember
- 12:30Speaker 9: who the guy was, but he took me to a
- 12:32Speaker 9: local hospital about fifteen minutes away. And you know, I
- 12:35Speaker 9: met my sneakers and I'm wearing my stinky, smelly hockey
- 12:39Speaker 9: equipment over the front of my sweater. And you know what, Mike,
- 12:44Speaker 9: I've always believed that life is short and you really
- 12:46Speaker 9: have to have fun with it when you can. So
- 12:49Speaker 9: there I am holding a towel to my face with
- 12:51Speaker 9: blow all over my sweater. And I walk up to
- 12:54Speaker 9: the desk where you know you sign in to get treated,
- 12:57Speaker 9: and the lady looks up with me, and she's just
- 12:59Speaker 9: a gas She Oh my, I said, Hi, I'm here
- 13:02Speaker 9: selling girl Scout cookies and we'd like to know if
- 13:04Speaker 9: you'd like to buy some ten Men's or some Lemon Square.
- 13:07Speaker 9: I mean, I couldn't resist. I just think to myself,
- 13:15Speaker 9: you know, it's a moment in life. It could go
- 13:18Speaker 9: bad or could make it go good. Have some fun
- 13:20Speaker 9: with it.
- 13:20Speaker 4: You need humors sometimes, even for extreme moments where life
- 13:24Speaker 4: surprises certainly kick in. Well, absolutely, John, great to have you.
- 13:28Speaker 4: The Blackhawks, Well people were saying maybe a couple of
- 13:31Speaker 4: months ago, a surprise team. Well, right now, no surprise.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Connor Bedard's good, that's obvious. First player, multiple hat tricks
- 13:39Speaker 4: this season after the win over the Flames. So, as
- 13:41Speaker 4: far as he's concerned, what's led to his better start
- 13:46Speaker 4: and at this point now where he's earned a letter
- 13:48Speaker 4: on his jersey.
- 13:50Speaker 9: No, it's been a combination of factors, Mike, and I'll
- 13:52Speaker 9: start with his off season training. After the season ended
- 13:56Speaker 9: last year, he decided not to go to the World Championships.
- 14:00Speaker 9: He was invited, but he opted not to go because
- 14:03Speaker 9: the kid was mentally exhausted. Mentally exhausted, not physically, he's
- 14:07Speaker 9: only a nineteen year old kid, but mentally he was fried.
- 14:11Speaker 9: He needed to get away. So what he did was
- 14:13Speaker 9: he went back home to Vancouver and he hired a
- 14:16Speaker 9: different strength and conditioning coach, a guy that had a
- 14:19Speaker 9: different philosophy. And this guy was going to make him
- 14:22Speaker 9: stronger and faster. Sounds like the Bionic Man, but he
- 14:26Speaker 9: basically almost turned into that. And Connor worked hard all
- 14:30Speaker 9: summer long I'm pretty sure he got some vacation in
- 14:34Speaker 9: there somewhere, but I would imagine he didn't get too
- 14:37Speaker 9: far away from a stationary bike or a weight set,
- 14:39Speaker 9: because when he showed up for training camp, like he
- 14:42Speaker 9: was sculpted, and he was built like an NFL linebacker,
- 14:47Speaker 9: albeit a short one. But the kid he was, he
- 14:50Speaker 9: was ripped. I mean, he's really really strong, and I'm
- 14:53Speaker 9: thinking to myself, he might be too strong to be
- 14:56Speaker 9: able to handle the tuck effectively move in and out
- 15:01Speaker 9: of people. He's gonna have a strong shot, for sure,
- 15:03Speaker 9: because he always has. But you know, is this going
- 15:06Speaker 9: to affect his coordination or his balance or his puck Hammick. Well,
- 15:09Speaker 9: we found out quickly it didn't. It enhanced it. In fact,
- 15:12Speaker 9: he'd worked on his speed in the summer as well,
- 15:15Speaker 9: and the finished product was a kid that came back
- 15:17Speaker 9: with a little bit of a burr under his saddle. Anyway,
- 15:20Speaker 9: and somebody that I think had the attitude of I'm
- 15:23Speaker 9: going to show you guys how good I could be,
- 15:26Speaker 9: and he's in the process of doing that right now.
- 15:28Speaker 9: He's among the league leaders in scoring in the National
- 15:32Speaker 9: Hockey League. Two guys names you may have heard of
- 15:34Speaker 9: him McKennon, and who's that other guy named David Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 15:42Speaker 9: yeah yeah, But it was he was the off season training.
- 15:46Speaker 9: Might not to interrupt. It was the off season training.
- 15:48Speaker 9: Plus the fact that he has been encouraged, largely by
- 15:52Speaker 9: Blackhawk captain Nick Felino, to go ahead and shoot the
- 15:55Speaker 9: puck when he feels he could score, instead of being
- 15:59Speaker 9: a little bit deffer to the veterans on the team, No, Connor,
- 16:02Speaker 9: shoot the puck. If you've got the shot, shoot the puck.
- 16:05Speaker 9: And he has well.
- 16:06Speaker 4: The players he's out scoring right now include the likes
- 16:09Speaker 4: of Mark Scheif, Lee, William Nielander, David Pasternak, Leon Drisidelkle.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Mccarr, Jack eichel More and more.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Connor Bedard certainly has a arrived What about the supporting
- 16:20Speaker 4: cast around him and a couple of guys who are
- 16:22Speaker 4: familiar to Seattle and Ryan Donado and Andre Berakowski. What
- 16:26Speaker 4: have you made of their games so far this year
- 16:28Speaker 4: and where they're at right now? Chip again here with
- 16:30Speaker 4: this Plackhawks lineup.
- 16:32Speaker 9: Well, I'm glad you asked, because one of my favorite
- 16:35Speaker 9: guys on the team is a guy named Ryan Denato. Ryan,
- 16:39Speaker 9: I can go on and on about what a great
- 16:41Speaker 9: kidding I think he is. Right, I was happy to
- 16:44Speaker 9: say that he scored for the first time in eight
- 16:46Speaker 9: games last night, and it was a typical Ryan Donato goal.
- 16:50Speaker 9: In the right spot at the right time, grabbed a
- 16:52Speaker 9: rebound without hesitation, snap It's in the back of the net.
- 16:56Speaker 9: And hopefully that's a portunate of good things to come
- 16:58Speaker 9: for Ryan because as you know, Mike, when he played
- 17:01Speaker 9: in Seattle once he put one in number two, number three,
- 17:05Speaker 9: and number four, number five, maybe number us up to
- 17:07Speaker 9: eight or nine was sure to follow. So I'm expecting
- 17:11Speaker 9: Ryan to make that contribution. Andre Burikowski, from my money,
- 17:15Speaker 9: has been one of the better surprises of the year.
- 17:18Speaker 9: You know how greatly skilled he was, you know how
- 17:21Speaker 9: he could find open ice and create We've seen all
- 17:25Speaker 9: of that and Ben some with the Blackhawks this season,
- 17:29Speaker 9: and we interviewed him last night. We actually interviewed him
- 17:33Speaker 9: and between periods and you know, asking him about ask
- 17:38Speaker 9: him about the game and what it was going to
- 17:39Speaker 9: take to beat the Calvary Flames, something along those lines.
- 17:42Speaker 9: So simple question, and Andre immediately shifted the conversation to
- 17:48Speaker 9: his accountability. I need to be better I need to
- 17:51Speaker 9: work harder, I need to make more things happen. And
- 17:54Speaker 9: when I heard that, I became a big fan of
- 17:56Speaker 9: him because not only is he holding himself accountable, but
- 17:59Speaker 9: simply by doing that, the other guys in the dressing
- 18:01Speaker 9: room are going to see that that's the way to
- 18:03Speaker 9: comport them themselves and that can only have a positive
- 18:06Speaker 9: effect on this team. So both x krack and it's
- 18:10Speaker 9: your loss, it's our game. But hey, life goes on, right.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Yeah, certainly, change the scenery is always part of the equation,
- 18:16Speaker 4: no exception here right now, joined by John Wideman here
- 18:19Speaker 4: radio voice of the Blackhawks on WGN Radio in Chicago.
- 18:23Speaker 4: I want to get to Captain Nick Felino out now
- 18:26Speaker 4: four weeks blocked to shot off his left hand. So,
- 18:29Speaker 4: whether it's the penalty kill, bottom six presidents or just
- 18:32Speaker 4: playing leadership, where's the biggest void the Blackhawks had to
- 18:36Speaker 4: fill in his absence?
- 18:38Speaker 9: Well, it starts in the dressing room, obviously, because you
- 18:41Speaker 9: know Nick, Nick, we joked last year that because the
- 18:45Speaker 9: way the team got so young, all of a sudden,
- 18:46Speaker 9: I said, Nick, you kind of went from being the
- 18:48Speaker 9: big brother to the dad, and that brought a chuckle
- 18:51Speaker 9: out of him, and you know, he accepted the situation.
- 18:55Speaker 9: He accepts, you know, his age and his position and
- 18:59Speaker 9: really how his position is defined. He knows that with
- 19:03Speaker 9: you know, the success and the growth of these younger players,
- 19:07Speaker 9: that's going to diminish his ice time. So he tries
- 19:09Speaker 9: to make the most out of every second that he's
- 19:11Speaker 9: on there. But what I've noticed about Nick is that
- 19:15Speaker 9: he is like a father figure. And I have not
- 19:19Speaker 9: seen him scold anybody. Okay, I have not seen him,
- 19:23Speaker 9: you know, telling guy, hey, straighten up, or you're going
- 19:25Speaker 9: to face this or that or whatever the way. Dad can't.
- 19:28Speaker 9: But I have seen him take kids under his wing
- 19:32Speaker 9: and say I'm going to work with you on this
- 19:35Speaker 9: because I think you can be great at that, or
- 19:37Speaker 9: don't do this at this particular moment because this is
- 19:40Speaker 9: what's going to happen. And he's also been a really
- 19:44Speaker 9: good listener to the kids and a great counselor. And
- 19:47Speaker 9: there's such value in that. Mike, I can't begin to
- 19:49Speaker 9: tell you. Kids are coming into the National Hockey League,
- 19:52Speaker 9: they're scared. Understandably, they're a little bit scared. I mean,
- 19:55Speaker 9: the NHL is what they dreamed of playing in. But
- 19:58Speaker 9: once they get there, realization falls on them that oh
- 20:01Speaker 9: my gosh, I may be in over my head and
- 20:05Speaker 9: a guy like Nick Fillino can smooth all of that out,
- 20:09Speaker 9: get them to turn their their attitude from one of
- 20:11Speaker 9: fear into one of confidence and go out and play.
- 20:14Speaker 9: I mean, I could go on and on about Nick Fellino,
- 20:17Speaker 9: and I personally hope that Nick will continue to play
- 20:21Speaker 9: because I think he's a tremendous captain. In times, somebody
- 20:25Speaker 9: will succeed, but I think he's a tremendous captain. He
- 20:28Speaker 9: is a great person, a great community person. I could
- 20:32Speaker 9: talk as usibly as you could tell about Nick Fillino,
- 20:35Speaker 9: but for my money, there isn't a better captain than
- 20:38Speaker 9: the Western Conference.
- 20:39Speaker 4: Going back to the first matchup, yere finally between these
- 20:41Speaker 4: two teams that was back earlier this month on November three,
- 20:44Speaker 4: Joey de Courd opposite Arvid Solderbloom Andre Berakowski have the
- 20:49Speaker 4: only black Hawk's goal Jamie alexiak Mann eveniers Jordan Everly
- 20:53Speaker 4: on the crack inside. John to you, what did we
- 20:56Speaker 4: learn about these two teams?
- 20:57Speaker 3: Had to add? First matchup.
- 21:01Speaker 9: A contrasting styles. As far as I can see your head,
- 21:05Speaker 9: Coach Lane Lambert, tough Saskatchewan guy getting his getting his
- 21:11Speaker 9: chance now after paying his dues a little bit with
- 21:14Speaker 9: the Leafs last year. If you will that that's you know,
- 21:17Speaker 9: I'm saying that tug in cheek. I don't mean that sincerely,
- 21:20Speaker 9: but I think Blaine is a is a great young man.
- 21:24Speaker 9: I think he's an underrated good coach. I think he
- 21:27Speaker 9: he understands the game and people and his his schemes
- 21:32Speaker 9: with the krack and now keep in mind, I've only
- 21:34Speaker 9: seen the crackt one time live. I've seen him on
- 21:37Speaker 9: TV a few times, but it appears they play more
- 21:40Speaker 9: of a defensive style and when there's an opportunity for offense,
- 21:45Speaker 9: they go as hard as they can. The Blackhawks they
- 21:49Speaker 9: defend as well. They defend their own end of the ice.
- 21:54Speaker 9: I think pretty well. They've limited a lot of goals,
- 21:57Speaker 9: a lot of goals scoring and chances. Although the the
- 22:01Speaker 9: shots would tell you differently, but the way that they play,
- 22:04Speaker 9: they try to discourage any shots from the key areas well.
- 22:08Speaker 9: That's kind of an ongoing thing. But one thing we
- 22:11Speaker 9: have seen with the Blackhawks this year, not in Seattle
- 22:14Speaker 9: because they only scored one goal, but for almost every
- 22:16Speaker 9: other game they scored at least three goals a game,
- 22:20Speaker 9: and goal scoring doesn't appear to be a problem this year.
- 22:24Speaker 9: Unlike the last couple of years, when you couldn't get
- 22:27Speaker 9: the Blackhawks, you could buy a third goal for this team,
- 22:30Speaker 9: and they lost so many one goal games because they
- 22:33Speaker 9: couldn't get that extra goal. Well, this year they're winning
- 22:37Speaker 9: those one goal games and they're getting points out of games.
- 22:40Speaker 9: So really I'm a little surprised by where they are
- 22:45Speaker 9: in the standings, But with the way that they've played
- 22:47Speaker 9: and the way that they bought in the Jeff Lashal system,
- 22:49Speaker 9: I don't think we should be. They're in a playoff spot.
- 22:52Speaker 3: And they want to keep it just one point apart.
- 22:54Speaker 4: For these two teams, it is due to be a
- 22:57Speaker 4: collision coming up at United States.
- 23:00Speaker 3: John.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Appreciate this. Thanks so much, have a great call. See
- 23:03Speaker 4: you around the bend soon once again. Hey, the minor
- 23:05Speaker 4: league stories you have, I can't wait for the book.
- 23:08Speaker 4: It might rival the Grapes of Wrath. Thanks again, my friend.
- 23:12Speaker 9: Well, if I ever sit down and write a book, Mike,
- 23:15Speaker 9: I'll swinge in there somehow, and I'll let everybody know
- 23:17Speaker 9: the PostScript and that story about the situation in Cincinnati.
- 23:21Speaker 9: Jim Stuckey put a shield on my helmet. I know
- 23:24Speaker 9: Don Cherry would be very unhappy with me, but it
- 23:27Speaker 9: saves the rest of my face. I can't tell you
- 23:29Speaker 9: how many times.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Oh, that's great, protect the money maker. John Wideman joining
- 23:34Speaker 4: us here. John, thank you very much. Anytime it can
- 23:36Speaker 4: get a James Stucky story in on Cracking this morning.
- 23:39Speaker 4: It's always a good day again, John Wideman with US Radio,
- 23:42Speaker 4: voice of the black Hawks on WGN Radio in Chicago.
- 23:47Speaker 4: Always great to have him on with us for cracking
- 23:50Speaker 4: this morning. Well about these two teams and cracking again
- 23:53Speaker 4: heading into matchup number two against Chicago, owning the upper
- 23:57Speaker 4: hand largely in this series with a record of nine
- 24:00Speaker 4: to four and they won five of the past six meetings.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Matty Veneers and Ellie Tolnen a pair of Kraken players
- 24:07Speaker 4: looking to extend their point streaks. They're riding three game
- 24:11Speaker 4: runs right now heading into this contest. And besides Connor Bdard, well,
- 24:16Speaker 4: you gotta be on the lookout here for the likes
- 24:17Speaker 4: of Tyler Bertuzzi nine goals in sixteen games at second
- 24:21Speaker 4: right now on the Blackawks and tied with Andre Burikowski
- 24:25Speaker 4: for second on Chicago and scoring at fifteen points, but
- 24:28Speaker 4: well behind the superstar pace of Badard.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Twenty nine points in nineteen games.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Louis Crevier, by the way, the hottest among Chicago's scorers
- 24:37Speaker 4: here when you count point streaks. He is riding a
- 24:40Speaker 4: four game run with five assists in that span. Heading
- 24:43Speaker 4: into this evening. On the Craken injury update side, Jared
- 24:47Speaker 4: mccan still making progress. He is on the trip. It
- 24:50Speaker 4: still remains on injured reserve with the lower body ailment. Meanwhile,
- 24:54Speaker 4: same diagnosis remains for Compocaco and goaltender Matt Murray, who
- 24:59Speaker 4: are out with lower body ailman's. They two are also
- 25:02Speaker 4: on injured reserve, and we'll see if that weighs into anything.
- 25:05Speaker 4: With Oscar Fisker, Mulgard potentially said to make his NHL
- 25:10Speaker 4: debut once again called up here for this evening's game
- 25:14Speaker 4: on the Crack and Roster. So it's the Kraken trying
- 25:17Speaker 4: to bounce back in Jamie Alexiak's potential seven hundredth career
- 25:21Speaker 4: NHL game this evening as a Crack In take on Chicago,
- 25:25Speaker 4: opening up at five pm Pacific time from United Center.
- 25:28Speaker 4: We're on Air four thirty again for all the action,
- 25:31Speaker 4: I'll join you from network Central. Everga Fitzu al Kadisky
- 25:35Speaker 4: have the call from the booth in Chicago. All across
- 25:37Speaker 4: the Global Credit Union Kraken Audio Network. Big thank you
- 25:41Speaker 4: to John Wideman for joining us. Enjoy this game.
- 25:44Speaker 3: If for cracking this morning, I'm Mike Benton.
- 25:47Speaker 2: You're home for the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three point
- 25:50Speaker 2: three kjr FM.
