- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Runnels Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJRFM
- 0:05Speaker 1: Sports Headlines.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 0:07Speaker 3: It's a Washington State Beef Commission football Friday morning here
- 0:11Speaker 3: on 93.3 KJRFM. Headlines are brought to you by Frostbrood
- 0:13Speaker 3: Coors Light. As cold as the Rockies. New Seahawks offensive
- 0:18Speaker 3: coordinator Brian Fleury said the limiting of rookie first-round draft
- 0:21Speaker 3: pick Jadarian Price in the opener as the lead running
- 0:24Speaker 3: back was by design. that after he didn't play all
- 0:27Speaker 3: preseason and as a rookie, Price is getting ramped up.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Into a workload.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Sounds like that may continue Sunday at Arizona, though Fleury
- 0:34Speaker 3: did say Price has earned more chances than the 12
- 0:37Speaker 3: carries he had in 50 plays against the Patriots. At
- 0:41Speaker 3: practice yesterday, Sam Donald again did not participate. He's not
- 0:44Speaker 3: going to play Sunday. Drew Locke will start against the Cardinals.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Nicky Mawory was again limited at practice. He hasn't practiced
- 0:50Speaker 3: fully since mid-June at arthroscopic ankle surgery in July. I
- 0:53Speaker 3: don't see him playing. On Sunday, I don't see Ty
- 0:56Speaker 3: Okada playing because he hasn't practiced all week with that
- 0:58Speaker 3: hamstring issue still. So they're back to where they were
- 1:00Speaker 3: last week at the safety situation. Rodney Thomas, come on down.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Or come on up, as it were, from the practice
- 1:06Speaker 3: squad again. Starting right guard Anthony Bradford now has a
- 1:09Speaker 3: hip issue on top of his knee issue.
- 1:10Speaker 2: He's listed as limited again in practice.
- 1:13Speaker 3: My hunch is he's going to play. I talked to
- 1:15Speaker 3: him after the game last Wednesday. I think he's going
- 1:17Speaker 3: to play. Torrey Horton, full go again yesterday on track
- 1:20Speaker 3: to make his season debut Sunday at the Cardinals. NFL
- 1:23Speaker 3: Week 2 began last night. The Bills beat the Lions 41-31. Bills'
- 1:28Speaker 3: offense is rolling. Their defense gave up a few there
- 1:30Speaker 3: at the end. Bills are the first team to go
- 1:32Speaker 3: 2-0 with, excuse me, third team in NFL history to
- 1:37Speaker 3: go 2-0 while allowing 30 points in each of the
- 1:39Speaker 3: first two games. In the last 10 years, 67% of
- 1:43Speaker 3: NFL teams that start 2-0 make the playoffs. Washington Huskies
- 1:47Speaker 3: 2-0 host Eastern Washington. The Eags at 415 on tomorrow
- 1:51Speaker 3: afternoon live right here on 93.3 KJR from Husky Stadium.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Jessamyn McIntyre will be in Martin Stadium in Pullman where
- 1:57Speaker 3: the Cougs are hosting Duquesne.
- 2:00Speaker 2: The Mariners, are they still playing? Yeah, they're still playing.
- 2:02Speaker 4: They are.
- 2:04Speaker 3: They got three games this weekend in Colorado. Brian Wu
- 2:06Speaker 3: starting tonight. Bryce Miller starts tomorrow. Kate Anderson starts Sunday.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Then the M's come home to finish the final six
- 2:11Speaker 3: games of this absolutely lost, frustrating season at home. Dodgers
- 2:16Speaker 3: clinched their 13th division title in 14 years last night,
- 2:19Speaker 3: by the way.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Sounders are also in Colorado.
- 2:22Speaker 3: They're trying to end their 12-game MLS losing streak. 6.30 p.m.
- 2:27Speaker 3: kickoff of the match tomorrow on Saturday in Colorado against
- 2:31Speaker 3: the Rapids. The Kraken began their NHL training camp yesterday
- 2:34Speaker 3: at the Kraken Community Iceplex in Northgate. Their first preseason
- 2:37Speaker 3: game is tomorrow. Training camp began yesterday, and their first
- 2:40Speaker 3: preseason game is tomorrow.
- 2:41Speaker 2: That's how the NHL rolls out.
- 2:42Speaker 3: 6 p.m. tomorrow, Climate Pledge Arena against Vancouver to start
- 2:45Speaker 3: the preseason. The Storm returned from the WNBA break from
- 2:49Speaker 3: the World Basketball Championships and got blasted. Las Vegas Aces
- 2:53Speaker 3: beat them 114-77 at Climate Pledge.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Storm are 8-33.
- 2:57Speaker 3: And the big high school football games around the state
- 3:00Speaker 3: this weekend include tonight, Puyallup at Lake Stevens, number one
- 3:04Speaker 3: versus number two in a 4A showdown. We've got the
- 3:07Speaker 3: Fish Bowl going on down in Gig Harbor, Peninsula High
- 3:10Speaker 3: School against Gig Harbor.
- 3:11Speaker 2: I love that.
- 3:12Speaker 5: That's such a great name for a rivalry match.
- 3:16Speaker 3: We've got the Battle of the Bridge rivalry between 6th-ranked
- 3:19Speaker 3: Enumclaw and 9th-ranked White River in 3A.
- 3:21Speaker 2: And in 2A, No.
- 3:22Speaker 3: 1 Archbishop Murphy is at No. 3 Anacortes in a
- 3:26Speaker 3: Northwest Conference showdown. In class 2A at 11 o'clock, we're
- 3:29Speaker 3: going to talk to Archbishop Murphy coach Joe Cronin. 11.15,
- 3:32Speaker 3: we're going to talk to Anacortes coach Justin Portz live
- 3:35Speaker 3: from Anacortes before that game tonight, the showdown. That's our
- 3:39Speaker 3: weekly high school football showcase. And now on with a
- 3:42Speaker 3: Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday show.
- 3:45Speaker 2: As part of our relentless coverage of the NFL. This
- 3:47Speaker 2: is football. This is football.
- 3:50Speaker 1: This is a Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday.
- 3:53Speaker 2: This crowd.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Football Fridays are brought to you by Washington's Beef Farmers
- 4:00Speaker 1: and Ranchers.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Beef, it's what's for dinner.
- 4:03Speaker 1: It's Football Friday with Greg Bell on your home for
- 4:08Speaker 1: the NFL.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Sports Radio 93.3 KJR FM. Look at that. We got
- 4:15Speaker 2: a fresh new open for Football Friday.
- 4:17Speaker 4: We sure do.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Washington State Beef Commission back with us. They brought in
- 4:21Speaker 3: a couple years ago when I was on this show
- 4:23Speaker 3: and they sponsored Football Fridays. They brought in a smorgasbord
- 4:26Speaker 3: of barbecue one day.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Oh, I believe that.
- 4:29Speaker 2: It was a feast.
- 4:31Speaker 4: They take a lot of pride in their product.
- 4:33Speaker 3: As they should. And we met the executives from the
- 4:35Speaker 3: Washington State Beef Commission. So hopefully they can line that
- 4:38Speaker 3: up here one of these Fridays for us.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Hey, beef, are you listening?
- 4:41Speaker 2: I'm just kind of. Goosing the opportunity there. It was
- 4:47Speaker 2: pretty cool.
- 4:48Speaker 4: That's really awesome.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I'm back in person here in the Elliott Bay studios
- 4:51Speaker 3: because the Seahawks have a little bit of later availability
- 4:53Speaker 3: for the media today. Jessamyn McIntyre, Greg Bell, as we
- 4:57Speaker 3: are every weekday, 10 a.m. to noon here on 93.3
- 5:00Speaker 3: KGR FM. The Seahawks will issue a injury report for
- 5:04Speaker 3: the game on Sunday at the Cardinals, the first NFC
- 5:06Speaker 3: West game of the season.
- 5:08Speaker 2: That report comes out about 1 o'clock this afternoon.
- 5:11Speaker 3: I think it's going to have questionable for Nick Emanwuri
- 5:13Speaker 3: to continue to keep the Cardinals guessing, but I don't
- 5:15Speaker 3: think he's playing. Again, he hasn't fully practiced in, what,
- 5:19Speaker 3: three months now. I don't think Ty Okada's playing. He'll
- 5:22Speaker 3: be listed as doubtful, maybe out. Sam Donahue will be
- 5:25Speaker 3: listed as out because he is out.
- 5:27Speaker 4: They were very transparent on that one.
- 5:30Speaker 2: They didn't want anybody thinking, and they just said, nope,
- 5:33Speaker 2: forget about it.
- 5:34Speaker 3: But, as we mentioned, Sam Donah was on the field
- 5:36Speaker 3: Wednesday in cleats throwing, and then when practice started, he
- 5:41Speaker 3: went back into the training room and was not a participant,
- 5:43Speaker 3: as he was not a participant yesterday. But the mere
- 5:46Speaker 3: fact that he had cleats on and was throwing suggests
- 5:49Speaker 3: perhaps he could come back next week. I still would
- 5:53Speaker 3: be surprised if he plays at Washington Week 3. I
- 5:56Speaker 3: think more likely Week 4 against the Chargers here in Seattle,
- 5:59Speaker 3: or maybe even Week 5 against the 49ers, but Not
- 6:03Speaker 3: a long-term deal or else he'd be on injured reserve.
- 6:05Speaker 3: They have not tried out a free agent quarterback. That
- 6:09Speaker 3: is not in the cards, Mike McDonald said when I
- 6:11Speaker 3: asked him that on Wednesday. He said, nope, we're going
- 6:12Speaker 3: to roll with two. And I talked to Jalen Milrow
- 6:15Speaker 3: yesterday about the fact that he's wearing two hats this
- 6:18Speaker 3: week because he's getting first-team reps. And we've talked about
- 6:22Speaker 3: this some yesterday. Brian Fleury, the offense coordinator, and Mike
- 6:26Speaker 3: McDonald don't want Jalen Milrow to have to go through
- 6:29Speaker 3: what the veteran, Drew Locke, went through last week. playing
- 6:33Speaker 3: without practicing the game plan plays. They want Milrow to
- 6:37Speaker 3: have some exposure to the game plan plays for Arizona
- 6:39Speaker 3: in case he has to play. Of course, he only
- 6:41Speaker 3: will if Drew Locke is injured, but they don't want
- 6:45Speaker 3: him to come in cold. It's one thing for Drew Locke,
- 6:47Speaker 3: an eight-year veteran who's done this backup thing now for
- 6:49Speaker 3: six years to do it. It's another for Jalen Milrow,
- 6:51Speaker 3: who's never played in an NFL game as a quarterback.
- 6:54Speaker 3: He has done the scat back running thing. But for
- 6:59Speaker 3: him to come into a game without having practiced any
- 7:01Speaker 3: of the game plan plays would not be a good idea.
- 7:03Speaker 3: So they're having him do first team reps, but they're
- 7:05Speaker 3: also having him still do the scout team reps. He's
- 7:07Speaker 3: running Jacoby Brissett's plays for the Cardinals as well. And
- 7:11Speaker 3: I talked to him about that yesterday and kind of
- 7:12Speaker 3: chuckled about, yeah, he's a little busy this week. He
- 7:15Speaker 3: also said, I didn't write this in News Tribune, but
- 7:18Speaker 3: I'm going to say it here, is that they are
- 7:21Speaker 3: not doing any of that run-specific, run-packaged stuff that Clint
- 7:25Speaker 3: Kubiak had for him. He said he hasn't done that
- 7:27Speaker 3: at all this year. Brian Fleury. They're not even, that's
- 7:31Speaker 3: not even an option in Jalen Milrow's mind. Now he could,
- 7:33Speaker 3: if he had to come in, but now they have,
- 7:36Speaker 3: it appears on short yardage, they're going to go with
- 7:39Speaker 3: the Barnyard-Tush-Push play over bringing in the trick of a
- 7:44Speaker 3: Taysom Hill type of a package for Jalen Milrow. So
- 7:48Speaker 3: there's a little interesting sidebar of how different Clint Kubiak
- 7:51Speaker 3: and Brian Fleury are. Of Milrow did it for three games,
- 7:55Speaker 3: one play in each of three games, and then fumbled
- 7:57Speaker 3: in that Tampa Bay game.
- 7:58Speaker 2: That was the end of that.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Yeah, that was rough.
- 8:01Speaker 3: He wasn't even active for a game the rest of
- 8:03Speaker 3: the season after that game. Brian Fleury mentioning yesterday, at
- 8:06Speaker 3: least Jalen Milrow, he's looking forward to the fact that
- 8:07Speaker 3: he'll be active to play in this game rather than
- 8:10Speaker 3: just as an emergency third quarterback. So, yeah, tons of
- 8:13Speaker 3: football going on. Jessamyn's about to get on a plane
- 8:15Speaker 3: to go to Pullman. Yeah, that's how she rolls.
- 8:17Speaker 4: This afternoon, I am in and out.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Most of us drive across I-90 and Route 26 to
- 8:22Speaker 3: get to Pullman, but not Jessamyn McIntyre.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Nuh-uh, man.
- 8:24Speaker 3: She's got a— you probably have a PJ that'll take you
- 8:26Speaker 3: over there in 20 minutes, right?
- 8:28Speaker 4: I have been on a couple.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Yeah, of course you have.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Of course you have.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Cooks have donors, too.
- 8:34Speaker 5: I am going through Alaska Airlines, and, yeah, my status
- 8:38Speaker 5: grows with that. Particular airline each and every season, and
- 8:44Speaker 5: I love it. I have a great experience with them
- 8:47Speaker 5: throughout my 14 years of traveling for this team.
- 8:51Speaker 2: That whole 23-minute flight or whatever it is, once you
- 8:53Speaker 2: get in the air.
- 8:54Speaker 4: It's about an hour.
- 8:55Speaker 2: An hour maybe gate to gate, but I'm talking actually
- 8:58Speaker 2: in the air.
- 9:00Speaker 4: If I was going to Spokane, I would say, yeah,
- 9:01Speaker 4: that's like 40 minutes. That's true. Pullman is crazy. About
- 9:07Speaker 4: an hour.
- 9:07Speaker 2: They've expanded that Pullman Airport. I remember flying with the Huskies,
- 9:10Speaker 2: and we couldn't fly in there most of the time.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Yeah, it is so nice.
- 9:13Speaker 2: They've gotten a bigger runway. They've got some terminal action going.
- 9:16Speaker 2: They do. They've stepped it up.
- 9:17Speaker 4: It used to just be that little, you know what
- 9:19Speaker 4: it's like.
- 9:19Speaker 2: It used to be like a private airport. You might
- 9:22Speaker 2: fly a private plane in and out of.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Now, I mean, when I flew with the Husky football
- 9:27Speaker 3: team and basketball team, but certainly the Husky football team,
- 9:30Speaker 3: we often had to.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Fly into Lewiston.
- 9:32Speaker 3: One, because our plane was too big, and two, because
- 9:34Speaker 3: it was always fogged out in the late winter, November,
- 9:37Speaker 3: Apple Cup time. Remember when the Apple Cup used to
- 9:39Speaker 3: be in November?
- 9:40Speaker 2: Sure do.
- 9:42Speaker 5: I remember we had Friendsgiving with my entire crew every
- 9:45Speaker 5: single year.
- 9:46Speaker 3: I have spent Thanksgiving nights in the Best Western in Moscow, Idaho,
- 9:51Speaker 3: where the Huskies used to stay.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Fun fact, the Huskies don't stay in Pullman. There's an
- 9:55Speaker 2: obvious reason for that.
- 9:57Speaker 3: You'd get the pulling of the fire alarms in the
- 9:59Speaker 3: hotel and the egging of the windows and cars blasting
- 10:02Speaker 3: music outside the room. They are smart enough to go
- 10:05Speaker 3: to Moscow, Idaho for the Apple Cup or were when
- 10:08Speaker 3: the Apple Cup was going on. So, yeah, I've spent
- 10:11Speaker 3: many a Thanksgiving night in the West Western across the
- 10:14Speaker 3: U of I campus at Moscow, Idaho.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Which is only nine miles from Portland.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I love Moscow, Idaho. People should know how close it is. Yeah,
- 10:22Speaker 2: they should.
- 10:23Speaker 5: Yes.
- 10:23Speaker 2: But I love Moscow, Idaho. I had a farmer's market
- 10:25Speaker 2: there on Saturdays.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Really great breakfast joint there, too.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Great breakfast joint. I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 10:29Speaker 2: It's called The Breakfast Club.
- 10:31Speaker 6: Yes.
- 10:31Speaker 3: It is fantastic. For those of you who have been
- 10:33Speaker 3: to Moscow, Idaho, you know what we're talking about. Because
- 10:35Speaker 3: it is the place to go on especially a weekend
- 10:38Speaker 3: morning brunch with gigantic pancakes and waffles and homemade french
- 10:42Speaker 3: toast and berries and yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 5: It's i'm an eggs person um yeah i'm not really
- 10:47Speaker 5: um big cake on you know on game day would
- 10:50Speaker 5: weigh me down so i um i'm big eggs and
- 10:53Speaker 5: they make a ridiculously large omelet.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Yes they do yeah over the plate like old beth
- 10:59Speaker 3: yeah y'all remember beth's on the text line 49451 those
- 11:01Speaker 3: of you been in seattle for a minute you know beth.
- 11:04Speaker 5: Cafe i lived in green lake so yeah exactly.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I live on the other side of green lake from
- 11:09Speaker 3: beth's And man, Beth used to be the place. But
- 11:12Speaker 3: if you were caught, back when my day, if you
- 11:15Speaker 3: were caught in Beth before 2 a.m., you were doing
- 11:17Speaker 3: something wrong.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 11:19Speaker 2: It was always after the bars closed.
- 11:20Speaker 6: Yep. Always.
- 11:21Speaker 2: And you went in there at 12.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Guilty as charged.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Hell yeah. A 12-egg omelet that used to hang off
- 11:27Speaker 2: the sides of the plate.
- 11:28Speaker 5: Oh, that was, I think it was on that food
- 11:32Speaker 5: challenge show.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Yes. Yes. I'm sure it was.
- 11:35Speaker 4: It is a man versus food.
- 11:36Speaker 5: Yes. Yes.
- 11:37Speaker 2: And food won at that place. It's hard to conquer
- 11:40Speaker 2: a 12-day gauntlet.
- 11:41Speaker 4: They make you eat, like, all the sides, too.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Well, they got that damn state of Idaho on your
- 11:45Speaker 2: plate as hash browns.
- 11:46Speaker 3: When you walk in, the Old Best— I haven't been to
- 11:48Speaker 3: the New Best. Those of you on the text line, 49451,
- 11:51Speaker 3: is it still the same? The Old Best Cafe used
- 11:53Speaker 3: to have, as their decor, writings and colorings from customers.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Yes.
- 11:58Speaker 5: Yes.
- 11:58Speaker 3: And some of them weren't kids. You were usually drunk
- 12:01Speaker 3: people that came in after 2 a.m.
- 12:02Speaker 4: That was part of the charm.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Exactly. But when you walked in, the grill was right
- 12:07Speaker 2: in front of you. Yeah.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Through the main front door. And the entire state of
- 12:11Speaker 3: Idaho was on that grill. I mean, unbelievable, prodigious amount
- 12:18Speaker 3: of hash browns. Just mounds and mounds of hash browns
- 12:22Speaker 3: on the grill. And then you'd order a 12-gay.
- 12:24Speaker 2: When I was a lieutenant in the Army, my buddies—
- 12:27Speaker 2: Lieutenant Scott Blair would order a 12-egg chili cheese omelet.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Well, that's like five meals.
- 12:34Speaker 2: That was bad for the house, let me tell you that.
- 12:37Speaker 2: That was not good.
- 12:40Speaker 5: Oh, as the wife of a flatulent person, I can
- 12:44Speaker 5: only imagine.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Mike's not even here to defend himself.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Well, he can't. It wakes me up. I'm literally sleeping
- 12:51Speaker 4: and I go, oh, God. Ready to pull my own
- 12:55Speaker 4: fire alarm in that situation.
- 12:56Speaker 2: The things you don't know about your spouse until it's
- 12:59Speaker 2: too late.
- 13:00Speaker 3: On the show today, we'll talk about more than just
- 13:03Speaker 3: flatulence and Beth's Cafe. I know some of you on
- 13:06Speaker 3: the text line know what I'm talking about with Beth's Cafe.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Give me a scouting report if you've been to the
- 13:09Speaker 3: new one.
- 13:10Speaker 4: And the Breakfast Club, I'm sure.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Yes, and the Breakfast Club in Moscow, Idaho.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Beth's was closed for a while and reopened about five
- 13:16Speaker 3: or six years ago.
- 13:17Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 13:18Speaker 3: Maybe it was right after the pandemic or right before
- 13:20Speaker 3: it reopened. I haven't been there since it reopened, so
- 13:22Speaker 3: those on.
- 13:22Speaker 2: The text line want to give me a shout-out and
- 13:25Speaker 2: a scouting report if you've been to Best Cafe on
- 13:27Speaker 2: Aurora just north of Greenlight.
- 13:29Speaker 3: On the show today, Football Friday, what it looks like
- 13:32Speaker 3: Nicky Manwari isn't playing, why it looks like he's not
- 13:34Speaker 3: playing Sunday, and why Jadarian Price got only 12 carries
- 13:37Speaker 3: and 50 offensive plays in the Seahawks opener, and why.
- 13:39Speaker 2: It may continue.
- 13:40Speaker 3: We're going to talk live with our weekly NFL guest
- 13:43Speaker 3: Farhan Lalji from TSN Canada. He was at the Kenneth
- 13:45Speaker 3: Walker debut set in Kansas City Monday night. 11 a.m.,
- 13:50Speaker 3: our weekly high school football showcase. I know Puyallup and
- 13:52Speaker 3: Lake Stevens is the one versus two Class 4A showdown,
- 13:56Speaker 3: but we featured Lake Stevens two weeks ago, so we're
- 13:58Speaker 3: trying to spread this around. The opener was Lake Stevens
- 14:01Speaker 3: and Graham Kapowson, so we're trying to spread this around.
- 14:04Speaker 3: So we're going to go to tonight's one versus three
- 14:05Speaker 3: state showdown in Class 2A. It's Archbishop Murphy. Their coach,
- 14:10Speaker 3: Joe Cronin, is going to talk to us live at
- 14:12Speaker 3: 11 o'clock. Anna Cordes is hosting Archbishop Murray, No. 3
- 14:15Speaker 3: team in 3A against No. 1. And Justin Portz, the
- 14:18Speaker 3: coach of Anna Cordes High School and the athletic director there,
- 14:22Speaker 3: is going to meet and talk to us at 1115
- 14:23Speaker 3: live from Anna Cordes, where tonight's showdown is. I'm going
- 14:27Speaker 3: to be at Bellevue High School, officiating Bellevue and Lyndon Christian.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Hats off to Lyndon Christian, a power in 1A in
- 14:34Speaker 3: Washington State, going against the No. 1 Class 3A team
- 14:37Speaker 3: in the state, the defending state runner-ups that lost to
- 14:40Speaker 3: O'Day in the title game. at Husky Stadium that I
- 14:43Speaker 3: called last December.
- 14:44Speaker 2: And Lyndon Christian's going down to Bellevue to take on
- 14:46Speaker 2: those cats. Let's go. Or those wolverines, as it is.
- 14:49Speaker 2: But yeah, let's see. Let's see what that does.
- 14:52Speaker 4: I always like a good matchup like that.
- 14:54Speaker 2: My son thinks that's going to be a close game.
- 14:56Speaker 2: That's good for them, stepping up.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Okay, let's go.
- 14:59Speaker 3: 11.30, we'll read back your text. We'll do your talkbacks.
- 15:02Speaker 3: The Tacoma Dodge text line, 49451. The iHeartRadio app. 933-KGR
- 15:06Speaker 3: or our website, 933-KGR.com, where you find the little red
- 15:09Speaker 3: talkback button.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Jessamyn loves herself some talkbacks.
- 15:12Speaker 4: Please, I like voices.
- 15:15Speaker 3: 1130, we'll play this. 1135, Factor Fiction, last one of
- 15:17Speaker 3: the week for our show.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I'm going to go college. And I'm actually going to
- 15:21Speaker 2: stay on a.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Theme that I started on Wednesday when I got back
- 15:23Speaker 3: from Hawaii. Remember I took Eastern with the 43 points
- 15:27Speaker 3: over the Huskies?
- 15:28Speaker 6: Yes, I do.
- 15:29Speaker 2: I don't think that Eastern's going to win. I just
- 15:30Speaker 2: don't think they're going to lose by 43 points because
- 15:32Speaker 2: I don't think the dogs can score 43 right now.
- 15:36Speaker 2: But my pick today is there's a similar theme to
- 15:38Speaker 2: that today. We'll do that at 1135. I'm trying to
- 15:42Speaker 2: learn this radio business.
- 15:45Speaker 3: And for now, it's going to join me at 1145
- 15:47Speaker 3: before his show from 12 until three. I think he's
- 15:49Speaker 3: in the studio with me today after being at the
- 15:51Speaker 3: Kraken Iceplex yesterday.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Text, of course, 49451 in the Comodage text line. And
- 15:56Speaker 2: the first question I have for the text line beside
- 15:58Speaker 2: Best Cafe or the Breakfast Club in Moscow, Idaho is,
- 16:02Speaker 2: Your thoughts, your concerns, your disagreement with how the Seahawks
- 16:05Speaker 2: are handling Jadarian Price at the start of his career.
- 16:07Speaker 2: 12 carries and 50 plays. Seven carries, seven touches, period,
- 16:14Speaker 2: in the first 37 plays into the fourth quarter when
- 16:16Speaker 2: the Seahawks just had three points. And I was in
- 16:17Speaker 2: the press box just, what's going on here? Well, Brian
- 16:20Speaker 2: Fleury explained that yesterday.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Here's what he had to say when I started asking
- 16:24Speaker 3: him about the use of Jadarian Price in his NFL
- 16:26Speaker 3: debut last week. Jadarian Price, when you self-critique how that
- 16:31Speaker 3: game went, do you Are you satisfied with the reps
- 16:33Speaker 3: he got, especially in the first half?
- 16:35Speaker 7: Yeah, we were very deliberate about the reps that he
- 16:36Speaker 7: was going to get and how he was going to
- 16:38Speaker 7: be used. He didn't play in the preseason. It was
- 16:40Speaker 7: the very first NFL game, huge stage, and we just
- 16:43Speaker 7: wanted to be cautious in terms of his workload. He
- 16:46Speaker 7: obviously earned more reps moving forward, and we'll continue to
- 16:48Speaker 7: bring him along and develop him the right way.
- 16:50Speaker 2: So it's still a ramp-up for him. For sure. It's
- 16:52Speaker 2: not because of anything physical. It's just being a rookie.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Fleury's saying that he has earned more opportunities with how
- 17:01Speaker 2: he played. But it sounded to me like those more
- 17:04Speaker 2: opportunities aren't necessarily coming Sunday in Arizona. Because when I
- 17:07Speaker 2: said it's still a ramp-up, he said for sure.
- 17:09Speaker 3: It's not health-related, but basically that he's a rookie and
- 17:13Speaker 3: he hasn't played all preseason. Well, that's not Price's fault.
- 17:17Speaker 3: There's a Seahawks choice not to play him in the preseason.
- 17:20Speaker 3: None of the starters in the preseason. But it is
- 17:23Speaker 3: interesting for Fleury to say he's a rookie. Being a
- 17:27Speaker 3: rookie is what he said. And now what's that mean? Well,
- 17:29Speaker 3: we've talked about this, you and I, Jessamyn, about a
- 17:32Speaker 3: rookie running back in the NFL. It's not just take
- 17:34Speaker 3: the ball and run. You have to really be good
- 17:37Speaker 3: in the nuances and the physicality of the pass game
- 17:40Speaker 3: and specifically pass blocking. And that is where Jadarian Price
- 17:45Speaker 3: hasn't been, I won't say struggled, but just hasn't done it.
- 17:48Speaker 3: At Notre Dame, he was the number two back. So
- 17:51Speaker 3: when it was third down, it was usually Jeremiah Love
- 17:53Speaker 3: on the field. And when he was on the field
- 17:56Speaker 3: on third downs, Price, at Notre Dame, they threw him
- 17:59Speaker 3: the ball. So he didn't block very much, and he
- 18:02Speaker 3: admits that.
- 18:03Speaker 2: And he admits that that's a big part.
- 18:04Speaker 3: In training camp, man, did Thomas Hammock, the new running
- 18:07Speaker 3: backs coach, work on pass catching and pass blocking with
- 18:10Speaker 3: Jadarian Price. Now, George Helani is supposed to be the
- 18:13Speaker 3: pass blocker. The reason why he stuck from Boise State
- 18:16Speaker 3: is that he's a rookie in large part, special teams,
- 18:18Speaker 3: but also his pass blocking. Well, if you really look
- 18:22Speaker 3: closely at the play that Sam Darnold got hurt on,
- 18:25Speaker 3: the fifth play of the season, George Helani caused that
- 18:29Speaker 3: whole thing. He got run over by Robert Spillane, the
- 18:32Speaker 3: linebacker for the Patriots. I mean, Spillane just basically picked
- 18:35Speaker 3: him up and shoved him in to Sam Darnold. Darnold
- 18:38Speaker 3: was trying to throw that pass on time. And had
- 18:40Speaker 3: he been able to throw it, had Helani been able
- 18:43Speaker 3: to block Spillane instead of getting run over by him,
- 18:46Speaker 3: Darnold would have thrown it on time, and Abe Lucas had.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Draymond Jones on the right side, the front side, blocked
- 18:53Speaker 2: on time. But when Donald had to pull the ball
- 18:55Speaker 2: down and start running away from Spillane, moving George Helani
- 18:59Speaker 2: into him, that's when Draymond Jones disengaged from Abe Lucas'
- 19:03Speaker 2: block on the right side and ran down from behind
- 19:06Speaker 2: Sam Donald onto his right hip, caused the injury, and
- 19:09Speaker 2: here we go. Now Drew Locke's starting in Arizona. But
- 19:12Speaker 2: George Helani is supposed to be very good at pass blocking,
- 19:15Speaker 2: and it was that play that of him missing a
- 19:18Speaker 2: negative for sure on that pass block assignment that caused
- 19:20Speaker 2: the whole injury. So, does DeJarrius Price get more opportunities
- 19:25Speaker 2: on third down, perhaps? More in the red zone.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I mean, against the Patriots, he came out of the game,
- 19:30Speaker 3: and Helani came in when they got inside the 20-yard line.
- 19:34Speaker 3: I would sure like to see Price get more than
- 19:36Speaker 3: 13-yard carry, see you for the rest of the series.
- 19:39Speaker 2: 12-yard carry, back to the sideline. I'd like to see
- 19:42Speaker 2: consecutive rushes. They only had one consecutive rushes. One set
- 19:46Speaker 2: of Two carries in a row for Price over the
- 19:49Speaker 2: first three games. quarters, and only two times in the
- 19:52Speaker 2: entire game over 50 plays did they hand the ball
- 19:55Speaker 2: to Price twice in a row. They threw to him
- 19:58Speaker 2: on two swing passes in the third quarter twice in
- 20:00Speaker 2: a row, but otherwise that was it. It was feast
- 20:04Speaker 2: or famine, fits and spurts.
- 20:06Speaker 3: And I talked to Price about that after the game,
- 20:08Speaker 3: and he talked about, well, we were getting a lot
- 20:09Speaker 3: of pre-snap penalties. That was keeping us all out of whack,
- 20:12Speaker 3: and it was changing our play calling and our substitutions.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Suffice to say, Price needs the ball more. But as
- 20:21Speaker 3: you hear Brian Fleury say, they're going to keep him
- 20:24Speaker 3: on a governance pacing program here, at least early in
- 20:26Speaker 3: his career.
- 20:27Speaker 2: 49451, how do you feel about that?
- 20:31Speaker 3: Let's stay in the NFL next because we're going to
- 20:32Speaker 3: go to Farhan Lalji, our buddy, TSN Canada, BC, Langley guy.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Up north, his son is now playing high school football
- 20:42Speaker 3: at a prep school in Virginia, getting a ton of D1.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really cool. He's been on a couple times
- 20:48Speaker 3: to Virginia to go see his son play. That's why
- 20:49Speaker 3: last week when we had him on the show and
- 20:51Speaker 3: his cell phone was failing, he was in the middle
- 20:53Speaker 3: of nowhere in Virginia watching his son play football. I'm
- 20:56Speaker 3: not sure where Farhan is next, but we're going to
- 20:58Speaker 3: talk to him about The Kansas City Chiefs debut of
- 21:01Speaker 3: Kenneth Walker, the Rams.
- 21:04Speaker 2: That's sending them back to Australia again, huh? That worked
- 21:06Speaker 2: out great for them. We'll talk to Farhan next on
- 21:09Speaker 2: 93.3 KJRFM.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Now back to the Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday
- 21:26Speaker 1: with Greg Bell on your home for the NFL. Sports
- 21:30Speaker 1: Radio 93.3 KJR FM.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Welcome back.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Greg Bell, Jessamyn McIntyre with you. I love the Sounders
- 21:38Speaker 3: fans rising up on the Tacoma Dodge text line 49451
- 21:41Speaker 3: correcting me that it's a 12-game winless streak and not
- 21:44Speaker 3: a 12-game losing streak.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Yes, that is correct. I wrote winless streak in my
- 21:47Speaker 2: notes and I said erroneously. that it was a losing streak.
- 21:52Speaker 3: 12-game winless streak tomorrow for the Colorado Rapids to go
- 21:56Speaker 3: up against the Sounders.
- 21:56Speaker 2: They're trying to break the 12-game winless streak. Thank you.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Like I said, nothing like a rata on the text line.
- 22:03Speaker 2: 49451 is the text line.
- 22:03Speaker 4: I love corrections.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yes. Don't we all? Farhan Lalji, kind enough to join
- 22:07Speaker 2: us as he's coming back from wherever the hell the
- 22:09Speaker 2: Vancouver Canucks training camp is. It's up in Pentacon or
- 22:13Speaker 2: somewhere in the middle of nowhere, B.C. He joins us
- 22:15Speaker 2: on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline from a tin can somewhere
- 22:19Speaker 2: in the middle of B.C.
- 22:20Speaker 6: Hello, sir. How are you, my friend? Penticton and Kelowna
- 22:25Speaker 6: are the jewels of the Okanagan. And if you've never
- 22:28Speaker 6: been to the Okanagan, you need to go.
- 22:30Speaker 2: I have, actually.
- 22:31Speaker 6: It is some of the... Well, then you know it.
- 22:33Speaker 6: It's some of the most beautiful... You know, beachfront, real estate,
- 22:37Speaker 6: you name it, in North America. Like, it's just an
- 22:39Speaker 6: awesome place to go to, especially this time of year
- 22:42Speaker 6: where it still feels like summer. I didn't get to golf.
- 22:45Speaker 6: And now I am in the middle of nowhere in
- 22:46Speaker 6: a little town called Merritt, just so I could talk
- 22:48Speaker 6: to you.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Thank you. And then I blow it by being late.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Merritt, I believe, is on the Route 4 or 3
- 22:53Speaker 3: or whatever that BC route is up into the.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Okanagan, right?
- 22:57Speaker 6: We don't have that many numbers in our route. There's
- 23:00Speaker 6: no 403. It's like Route 3.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Or 3, I said. We don't have many numbers.
- 23:06Speaker 6: They used to have the Merritt Mountain Music Festival up here,
- 23:09Speaker 6: and it was a complete destination, like literally 100,000 people
- 23:13Speaker 6: in a town of 5,000 people for this big event.
- 23:16Speaker 6: It'd be like going to the Gorge for a big concert, right?
- 23:19Speaker 6: But like times 10 in terms of volume of people.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Well, maybe in Pentikin, if I'm saying it correctly, they
- 23:26Speaker 2: had the— Pentikin. Pentikin. Thank you. Never been there, or
- 23:29Speaker 2: at least maybe passed through it. Maybe they had the
- 23:32Speaker 2: Bills-Lyons game last night. I'm not sure.
- 23:35Speaker 6: But we did watch. Absolutely.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Okay. And your impression of Joe Brady's offense.
- 23:40Speaker 3: I mean, Sean McDermott's bills didn't score like this regularly.
- 23:43Speaker 3: It's early in the season, but man, he's Joe Brady
- 23:46Speaker 3: and the bills are running it up with Josh Allen
- 23:49Speaker 3: running and scoring touchdowns.
- 23:50Speaker 2: With his legs. What do you think about the bills offense?
- 23:53Speaker 2: And why is it better? I mean, they got Shakir,
- 23:55Speaker 2: they got cook, the running back, but what's going on there?
- 23:58Speaker 6: Well, this probably is how the Bills play early in
- 24:01Speaker 6: most seasons.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 24:02Speaker 6: And I think Josh Allen's just playing the best football
- 24:06Speaker 6: of his career right now, but he's played at this
- 24:08Speaker 6: level before. I don't want to make this feel like
- 24:10Speaker 6: an anomaly for him. I think he's as good a
- 24:14Speaker 6: quarterback as there is in the national football league. Even
- 24:16Speaker 6: when Holmes was at the top of his game, and
- 24:18Speaker 6: I know we're going to get to the Chiefs in
- 24:20Speaker 6: a moment, but... Josh Allen was right there and you'd
- 24:24Speaker 6: get to a big game and you'd get to the
- 24:26Speaker 6: final moments. And you usually have that one mistake in
- 24:29Speaker 6: a game where he's put up ridiculous amounts of yardage.
- 24:32Speaker 6: And really at the end of those games, the chiefs
- 24:35Speaker 6: were also better on the margins, right? Like, you know,
- 24:37Speaker 6: he moms had a better team around him than maybe,
- 24:40Speaker 6: than maybe Allen did. I think Brady's are an exceptional
- 24:43Speaker 6: offensive coordinator. I think he's got the complete freedom to
- 24:45Speaker 6: do what he wants this year without Sean McDermott there.
- 24:47Speaker 6: And I, You know, you add a guy like DJ Moore, right?
- 24:51Speaker 6: Who's just such a savvy player and such a reliable player.
- 24:55Speaker 6: And it doesn't look like his injury is going to
- 24:56Speaker 6: be too serious with the AC joining might even play
- 24:59Speaker 6: this week. But I think he's a really underrated piece.
- 25:01Speaker 6: And then you just have to be named Dalton, right?
- 25:02Speaker 6: Whether you're whichever guy's named Dalton is going to do
- 25:05Speaker 6: really well, but you know, they're getting good tight end play.
- 25:07Speaker 6: So he's using all his pieces consistently. You know, five
- 25:10Speaker 6: touchdowns in their first six drives, all at the hand
- 25:13Speaker 6: of Josh Allen, either running or passing. This guy's an
- 25:16Speaker 6: unstoppable force when he's in that zone.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Does Bill's defense worry? They gave up a couple late
- 25:22Speaker 3: there to make that a closer game.
- 25:23Speaker 2: It should have been.
- 25:23Speaker 3: They gave up 31 and beaten the Texans last week.
- 25:26Speaker 3: I think the third team in NFL history to go
- 25:29Speaker 3: 2-0 while giving up 30-plus points in each of those
- 25:32Speaker 3: first two games. Would you be worried now that McDermott,
- 25:34Speaker 3: the defensive guy, is gone about the Bill's defense?
- 25:38Speaker 6: To a point. I mean, I think I've always been
- 25:40Speaker 6: worried about the Bills' defense. And when I look at the...
- 25:43Speaker 6: Number one, they were able to play without Ed Oliver,
- 25:46Speaker 6: who was a late scratch last night because of an
- 25:48Speaker 6: injury in warm-up. What the heck are they doing in warm-up?
- 25:50Speaker 6: They're in Buffalo. But anyway, they were able to.
- 25:55Speaker 6: They were able to overcome that centerpiece of their defense,
- 25:57Speaker 6: but they've got some holes, right? It's a patchwork secondary.
- 26:00Speaker 6: They're average at linebacker. So I do think at some
- 26:03Speaker 6: point that's going to expose them. I mean, that's why
- 26:05Speaker 6: the Bills' biggest challenge is there's not a single team
- 26:08Speaker 6: that's more reliant on their quarterback, even the Chiefs and
- 26:11Speaker 6: the Holmes in their heyday, than the Bills are with
- 26:14Speaker 6: Josh Allen. So they've got some... Better pieces around him offensively,
- 26:17Speaker 6: but they're completely dependent on him winning shootouts and winning
- 26:21Speaker 6: games this way. And if they run into injury problems,
- 26:24Speaker 6: if eventually by the end of the year he gets
- 26:26Speaker 6: a little beat up, we might see what we ought
- 26:27Speaker 6: to see with the Bills, and that's that late-season slide.
- 26:30Speaker 6: But they're dependent on him. That's just the way it goes.
- 26:32Speaker 6: And their defense is something to be concerned with, no doubt.
- 26:36Speaker 2: I think you were in Kansas City on Monday night, right?
- 26:38Speaker 6: I was.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Kenneth Walker and his Kansas city debut, 68% of the snaps,
- 26:45Speaker 3: 29 plays for him, 23 runs, six pass targets by
- 26:48Speaker 3: my homes in the chiefs, 67 play almost 40 plus
- 26:52Speaker 3: percent of the time they gave it to Kenneth Walker.
- 26:54Speaker 3: You told us in Casey's training camp, when you were there,
- 26:57Speaker 3: they were using Walker everywhere. Can Andy Reed keep up
- 27:00Speaker 3: this workload for Kenneth Walker?
- 27:02Speaker 2: You think?
- 27:03Speaker 6: Well, it's a case of Ken Kenneth Walker, keep up
- 27:06Speaker 6: this workload. Right. And, um, um, Who's the backup? EJ,
- 27:11Speaker 6: I'm trying to, Johnson's the last, and the rookie that
- 27:13Speaker 6: they just drafted this year, who looked also very good
- 27:16Speaker 6: in camp. And I think his role is going to
- 27:19Speaker 6: continue to increase significantly. the season progresses as he gets
- 27:23Speaker 6: more and more comfortable. And I think it needs to
- 27:24Speaker 6: increase just to keep Kenneth Walker healthy. And I'm telling
- 27:27Speaker 6: you the Kenneth Walker I saw in that game, I'm
- 27:31Speaker 6: not even convinced he was that good in the Superbowl
- 27:32Speaker 6: and he was great in the Superbowl.
- 27:34Speaker 5: Right.
- 27:35Speaker 6: And I felt going into that game and it didn't
- 27:37Speaker 6: surprise me that they were going to run between the
- 27:38Speaker 6: guards because they had so many problems to tackle and
- 27:41Speaker 6: coming into that game, but their interior three are very good.
- 27:44Speaker 6: 18 of his 23 carries began between the B gaps
- 27:48Speaker 6: or inside the B gaps. Like it was just, even
- 27:50Speaker 6: on those 60 yard run, it was an inside run
- 27:52Speaker 6: that bounced to the left.
- 27:53Speaker 5: Right?
- 27:53Speaker 6: So, He was able to play for the level of
- 27:57Speaker 6: patients in there and burst in those tight spaces. You
- 28:01Speaker 6: know what? When I think of him in Seattle, I
- 28:04Speaker 6: think of the wide zone run game and the cutbacks
- 28:05Speaker 6: off the wide zone run game, seeing him inside play
- 28:08Speaker 6: like that. And he showed like Levy and bell type
- 28:11Speaker 6: of patients. It was really, really impressive to watch. With
- 28:15Speaker 6: that burst, he could get behind the guards, set up
- 28:17Speaker 6: the block, and then just get out of there. 101
- 28:20Speaker 6: of his yards in that game came above expected. He
- 28:24Speaker 6: did it by himself, even without the offensive line. Forced
- 28:27Speaker 6: 14 missed tackles in that game. He played the game
- 28:31Speaker 6: in a way that he didn't necessarily play it in Seattle.
- 28:35Speaker 6: He was good in pass protection when needed offensively. But again,
- 28:38Speaker 6: the thing with him, he's had some injury histories prior
- 28:41Speaker 6: to last season. I think the Seahawks' commitment to splitting
- 28:44Speaker 6: time with him allowed him to be at his best
- 28:45Speaker 6: late in the year. So we'll see what he looks
- 28:47Speaker 6: like at the end of the year, but right now
- 28:48Speaker 6: he sure looks pretty impressive.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Seahawks are already doing that with Jadardian Price as replacement,
- 28:52Speaker 2: governing him for an entire season. The Rams, Sean McVay
- 28:56Speaker 2: yesterday saying, man, we hope we never play in Australia again.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Did they gum that up with the travel and you
- 29:02Speaker 3: think that going, trying to go in and out boomerang
- 29:04Speaker 3: style caused them to lose by so many points. I mean,
- 29:07Speaker 3: they got boat raced in Australia by the 49. You
- 29:09Speaker 3: think that was all because of the travel?
- 29:12Speaker 6: I think it had a lot to do with the travel.
- 29:14Speaker 6: And I don't want to take away credit from San
- 29:15Speaker 6: Francisco because they, they certainly raised some eyebrows with their play.
- 29:19Speaker 6: That said, um, They looked completely sluggish. They looked disinterested
- 29:25Speaker 6: later in the game as they fell behind a little bit.
- 29:28Speaker 6: And I know that he got a little greedy when
- 29:30Speaker 6: he was able to have success doing it on a
- 29:33Speaker 6: seven-hour time zone change when he went to Europe and
- 29:36Speaker 6: thought he could do that this time around. And it
- 29:38Speaker 6: was just completely different. They sent like 15 staffers over
- 29:41Speaker 6: there during the past two years to figure out the
- 29:44Speaker 6: right strategy, but those aren't.
- 29:45Speaker 4: Professional football players.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Staffers. Staffers. Pencil pushers.
- 29:49Speaker 6: I was able to tell you whether or not they
- 29:51Speaker 6: were capable of doing that. They even run the treadmill too.
- 29:55Speaker 6: I couldn't play it like that. I don't I can't
- 30:00Speaker 6: wrap my head around why an incredibly intelligent coach would
- 30:04Speaker 6: make such a dumb decision, right? So I think it
- 30:07Speaker 6: had a lot of impact. I think the Myles Garrett
- 30:09Speaker 6: loss had a lot of impact because coming out of
- 30:11Speaker 6: last season, they knew they needed to address their pass rush.
- 30:15Speaker 6: And without Myles Garrett, they weren't in a position to
- 30:17Speaker 6: do that. So we'll see how much better they are
- 30:19Speaker 6: with Aaron Donald. this time around um but yeah i
- 30:23Speaker 6: think it was a huge mistake and you know you
- 30:25Speaker 6: watch the trickle down effect that it had in that
- 30:27Speaker 6: game so you can't come anywhere near brock purdy with
- 30:31Speaker 6: what's in that pass rush with miles garrett doing nothing
- 30:34Speaker 6: in that game and so what do you do oh
- 30:36Speaker 6: you start playing a lot of zone with your expensive
- 30:39Speaker 6: corners right like if you're going to do as much
- 30:41Speaker 6: of that they did with Trent McDuffie and Jalen Watson.
- 30:45Speaker 6: Why did you pay those guys if you could sit
- 30:47Speaker 6: back there and zone? But again, why you did it
- 30:50Speaker 6: if you're not able to rush the posture because you
- 30:51Speaker 6: can't cover forever. It was flawed from planning to execution.
- 30:56Speaker 6: You know, I don't want to overreact and say all
- 30:59Speaker 6: of a sudden this is a team, but I'll tell you,
- 31:01Speaker 6: when you look at the schedule that they've got coming up, right.
- 31:04Speaker 6: And then the teams that they're playing, the Broncos, the Eagles,
- 31:06Speaker 6: the bills, like this is going to be seriously difficult
- 31:10Speaker 6: for the Rams to tread water. Everybody's talking about the
- 31:12Speaker 6: two games in the final three weeks of the season
- 31:14Speaker 6: with the Seahawks. What are the Rams going to look
- 31:16Speaker 6: like at the end of the month?
- 31:18Speaker 2: Good point.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Miles Garrett, did they get damaged goods from Cleveland? It's
- 31:22Speaker 3: not like Miles Garrett was pushing it in training camp,
- 31:25Speaker 3: doesn't play in the preseason, and then game one needs
- 31:27Speaker 3: a knee issue.
- 31:30Speaker 2: I mean.
- 31:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I think they did. I think they did, and
- 31:33Speaker 6: I think they knew what they were getting.
- 31:34Speaker 2: I just think they.
- 31:36Speaker 6: overestimated their ability to get him turned around and ready
- 31:39Speaker 6: to go. I mean, when I was down there at camp,
- 31:41Speaker 6: Miles Garrett did nothing. He hadn't come out on the
- 31:43Speaker 6: field for five days. The day I was there, he
- 31:45Speaker 6: came out on the field, took a few reps in
- 31:47Speaker 6: individual drills, and then kind of did nothing, right? And
- 31:51Speaker 6: it was like that. And you kind of chalked it
- 31:52Speaker 6: up to... the Rams and Sean McVay having that emotional
- 31:55Speaker 6: IQ and understanding he's got a veteran team that's older.
- 31:58Speaker 6: Don't push them too hard now, but you're seeing it, right?
- 32:01Speaker 6: Like you're seeing it with Pooka Nakua. You're seeing him
- 32:03Speaker 6: with Devante Adams. Like you said, and Nakua is not
- 32:05Speaker 6: old by any stretch, but the other guys are. And so,
- 32:08Speaker 6: you know, they are feeling that. I think this is
- 32:10Speaker 6: going to be an entire season of injury and roster
- 32:13Speaker 6: management for the Rams. And it may work out because
- 32:15Speaker 6: there's such a high end upside, but in the case
- 32:18Speaker 6: of Miles Garrett, it's, He's going to, you know, he
- 32:20Speaker 6: was a non-factor this past game. He's going to miss
- 32:23Speaker 6: four games at least. And when he comes back, I mean,
- 32:26Speaker 6: this is not an upper body injury. This is a
- 32:28Speaker 6: knee injury, right? I just wonder if there's going to
- 32:31Speaker 6: be some maintenance and an extended absence. So if he's
- 32:34Speaker 6: at full strength in the second half of the season,
- 32:36Speaker 6: I don't know that I want to be dealing with
- 32:38Speaker 6: the Rams, but it could take a while for him
- 32:40Speaker 6: to get to that point beyond these four games.
- 32:42Speaker 3: We've said it. They're going to miss Jared verse and
- 32:44Speaker 3: versus a lot younger. And he's available.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Unlike miles Garrett right now. Yeah. What a difference a
- 32:49Speaker 2: week makes. You can't win a Super Bowl in March
- 32:51Speaker 2: and June. I think that was a good reminder of that.
- 32:53Speaker 6: Oh, you're right. And now, and now McVeigh's talking about
- 32:56Speaker 6: expecting Aaron Donald to not have any drop-off. So that's
- 33:00Speaker 6: scary because he was, he was supposed to be like
- 33:03Speaker 6: the luxury item, right?
- 33:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:05Speaker 6: So, you know, it's like, you've got this incredibly solid
- 33:08Speaker 6: show and I just come in every Thursday or Friday
- 33:10Speaker 6: as the luxury item.
- 33:12Speaker 2: You are a luxury item, Farhan. That's true. in many ways.
- 33:17Speaker 6: Anyways, I think you can have felt that. Not that
- 33:19Speaker 6: I'm comparing myself to Aaron Donald. It might be as
- 33:20Speaker 6: big as that at some point by the end of
- 33:22Speaker 6: the season. But you know, when you, when you look
- 33:24Speaker 6: at him, you thought that they were going to be
- 33:26Speaker 6: really good before we had the Aaron Donald conversation, right?
- 33:28Speaker 6: The super team label got applied before he decided to
- 33:31Speaker 6: come back and everyone thought that, okay, he's not going
- 33:33Speaker 6: to be that guy at the beginning of the year.
- 33:35Speaker 6: He's going to be a 30 snap a game guy
- 33:38Speaker 6: and then work his way up. But when Sean McVay
- 33:40Speaker 6: talks that way about him, it's, it makes you think
- 33:43Speaker 6: they're going to try to play him, you know, 80%
- 33:45Speaker 6: of the snaps or 75% of the snaps coming right
- 33:48Speaker 6: out of the gate. And if that's a 35, chalk
- 33:50Speaker 6: up the next injury on the Rams roster, right?
- 33:52Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 33:53Speaker 6: And also, if we go to the last game, let's
- 33:56Speaker 6: not overlook the fact that Kyle Shanahan has always owned
- 33:59Speaker 6: Sean McVay. True.
- 34:01Speaker 2: That is true. And if the 49ers are healthy, hmm.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Maybe it will be a three-team. Maybe the two teams
- 34:07Speaker 2: are going to be the 49ers and the Seahawks, the
- 34:09Speaker 2: way it looks. We're overreacting, obviously.
- 34:12Speaker 3: Cardinals, are they for real? Farhan going down, smashing the
- 34:15Speaker 3: Jim Harbaugh's. They got LaFleur, McVay's offensive coordinator, running outside
- 34:21Speaker 3: zone 44% of the time. Got Jacoby Brissett completing 27
- 34:24Speaker 3: of 37 passes. Did that raise an eyebrow to you?
- 34:29Speaker 3: And maybe the Seahawks have a tougher task in Arizona
- 34:31Speaker 3: than you might have thought?
- 34:33Speaker 6: Well, you know me, and I'm not a Jim Harbaugh guy.
- 34:35Speaker 2: I know you're not. I know.
- 34:37Speaker 6: I haven't been, so I kind of looked at it
- 34:40Speaker 6: and thought of it more from that perspective. Jacoby Brissett
- 34:43Speaker 6: is a 500 quarterback. He's not a terrible quarterback, but
- 34:46Speaker 6: he's also not a quarterback that's all of a sudden
- 34:48Speaker 6: going to put them in contention in that division. So,
- 34:52Speaker 6: you know, I think that's... an eight, nine, nine and 18, right?
- 34:57Speaker 6: Like it can be, I think, I think that would
- 34:58Speaker 6: be the high end for them. So, you know, I
- 35:00Speaker 6: still look at all of their offensive pieces. I don't
- 35:04Speaker 6: know that it's sustainable. I'm not surprised that the chargers
- 35:07Speaker 6: had some issues, but really the chargers offense made their
- 35:11Speaker 6: defense look bad because they just stayed on the field
- 35:15Speaker 6: the entire game.
- 35:15Speaker 5: Right.
- 35:16Speaker 6: Um, We thought that Mike McDaniel was going to be
- 35:20Speaker 6: able to unlock Justin Herbert, but my question coming into
- 35:22Speaker 6: the year was, who is Justin Herbert going to throw
- 35:25Speaker 6: the ball to outside of Ladd McConkie? And you saw
- 35:27Speaker 6: him lock in on Ladd McConkie repeatedly, despite all the
- 35:31Speaker 6: fancy pants shifts and motions that McDaniel comes up with.
- 35:34Speaker 6: They simply weren't able to create the matchups that they
- 35:37Speaker 6: wanted and they weren't able to protect the passer. So
- 35:40Speaker 6: a year ago we were told, okay, well, they've got
- 35:42Speaker 6: all these injuries and offensive tackle. And now all of
- 35:44Speaker 6: a sudden you come out of training camp and they've
- 35:46Speaker 6: got injuries in the interior. So he gets sacked three times,
- 35:48Speaker 6: throws for just over 200 yards. But gaze after Jim
- 35:52Speaker 6: Harbaugh said, this is going to be the greatest quarterback
- 35:54Speaker 6: to ever play in the NFL. Like, are you kidding?
- 35:57Speaker 6: me you think you're helping your quarterback by showing him
- 35:59Speaker 6: confidence by saying something so ridiculous and all you're doing
- 36:01Speaker 6: is putting a greater target on him um so yeah
- 36:05Speaker 6: i mean the offense i thought they would have early
- 36:07Speaker 6: success i thought mcdaniel you know until week four or
- 36:10Speaker 6: five might.
- 36:12Speaker 5: Be oopsies oh i merit bc'd him Yeah, well, now
- 36:19Speaker 5: we know a little bit more about the area. But
- 36:23Speaker 5: we do appreciate him pulling over into a Tim Hortons
- 36:25Speaker 5: parking lot just to make this interview happen.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Tim Hortons, exactly. Far and long, GTSN Canada. We'll get
- 36:32Speaker 3: him back tomorrow, or next week, I should say. Maybe
- 36:35Speaker 3: somewhere that has cell phone service.
- 36:37Speaker 2: They're not in the middle of Vancouver, BC, training camp somewhere.
- 36:41Speaker 2: But it's great. Talking about the Rams, and he's right.
- 36:44Speaker 2: The Rams schedule now. Eagles, Bills... I mean, what.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Are they going to look like, as he said, by
- 36:49Speaker 3: the end of the month, let alone by the time
- 36:50Speaker 3: the Seahawks and the Rams first meet on Christmas night.
- 36:53Speaker 3: Our thanks to Farhan Lalji, TSN Canada. Up next, have
- 36:57Speaker 3: you checked out the drama that's going around LSU and
- 37:00Speaker 3: Ole Miss?
- 37:01Speaker 2: Not just the game, but everything beside the game. I mean,
- 37:06Speaker 2: they got serving warrants and parking lots of team facilities
- 37:11Speaker 2: and crops on horseback in Oxford, Mississippi.
- 37:13Speaker 3: We'll talk about the circus that's going on with the
- 37:15Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin hate bowl. In Oxford, Mississippi, this game's going
- 37:19Speaker 3: to be tomorrow night.
- 37:20Speaker 2: That's next.
- 37:21Speaker 3: 11 o'clock, our high school football weekly showcase. This week,
- 37:25Speaker 3: Archbishop Murphy at Anacortes. One at three in Class 2A

- 38:03Speaker 3: Washington State Beef Commission Football Friday here on 93.3 KJR FM.
- 38:07Speaker 3: If you missed our talk with Farhan Lalji going around
- 38:09Speaker 3: the NFL, including Kenneth Walker, who he was very impressed
- 38:12Speaker 3: with running between the guards, as he mentioned. for 108
- 38:16Speaker 3: of his 173 yards or whatever it ended up being
- 38:19Speaker 3: in the Chiefs win of the Broncos. If you missed
- 38:21Speaker 3: that talk about the Rams going to Australia, what a
- 38:24Speaker 3: disaster that was. And now Miles Garrett out on injured reserve,
- 38:29Speaker 3: missing at least four weeks in a schedule ahead of L.A.,
- 38:32Speaker 3: including the Eagles and Bills.
- 38:34Speaker 2: On the schedule for the Rams.
- 38:35Speaker 3: If you missed all that, you go to the iHeartRadio
- 38:38Speaker 3: app or 933KJR.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Com. The Greg Bell Show podcast page will be up
- 38:41Speaker 2: this afternoon.
- 38:43Speaker 3: Our Washington State Beef Commission Football Friday goes NFL, college,
- 38:46Speaker 3: and high school. At high school at 11 o'clock, we're
- 38:48Speaker 3: going to talk to the two coaches in the big
- 38:51Speaker 3: game in 2A in the Northwest Conference tonight and Anacortes,
- 38:55Speaker 3: Archbishop Murphy High School at Anacortes, one at three. We'll
- 38:58Speaker 3: talk about that at 11 to 1125, and then Factor
- 39:01Speaker 3: Fiction at 1135. College football tomorrow, a bunch of dud
- 39:05Speaker 3: games this weekend, a bunch of, this is what happens
- 39:08Speaker 3: when the non-conference schedule is just Cupcake City.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Awful. Gee whiz.
- 39:13Speaker 4: It used to be a little better.
- 39:14Speaker 2: A little.
- 39:15Speaker 5: I mean, we had a couple bangers to start off
- 39:18Speaker 5: our season with the Cougs.
- 39:19Speaker 2: You did. And now you got Duquesne. So, I mean,
- 39:23Speaker 2: they got Wagner and Cal.
- 39:25Speaker 4: We need a get right game.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Yes, you do. Yes, you do.
- 39:29Speaker 3: And- Washington's hosting Eastern Washington. In Oxford, Mississippi, the Lane-Kiffin
- 39:34Speaker 3: hate bowl will go on tomorrow at 4.30 our time.
- 39:37Speaker 3: LSU at Ole Miss. There's stuff going on. They're bringing
- 39:44Speaker 3: cops in from New Orleans and Mobile, Alabama.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Alabama.
- 39:48Speaker 3: To help with what they're expecting to be a raucous
- 39:50Speaker 3: scene tomorrow on the Grove in Oxford, Mississippi. I spent
- 39:55Speaker 3: a week in Oxford with the Washington baseball team in
- 39:57Speaker 3: an NCAA tournament once. It's a great, great setting for
- 40:00Speaker 3: college students.
- 40:01Speaker 4: The Grove is amazing. Yeah, I got to go there
- 40:04Speaker 4: last year.
- 40:05Speaker 5: And just like taking in the sights, obviously I couldn't
- 40:08Speaker 5: partake in the activities that were happening there, but I
- 40:11Speaker 5: very much appreciated the pageantry of that location.
- 40:16Speaker 2: What's going on tomorrow is the Oxford Police Department. It's
- 40:19Speaker 2: not a big city. It's a college town. They have
- 40:21Speaker 2: 140 police officers on their staff. All of them are
- 40:25Speaker 2: going to be deployed and working. All of them.
- 40:28Speaker 3: Friday and Saturday in various shifts. Then they brought in
- 40:32Speaker 3: cops from Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans to help patrol
- 40:36Speaker 3: the square. That's the hub in the middle of downtown Oxford,
- 40:38Speaker 3: separate from the campus. 19 officers are going to be
- 40:41Speaker 3: on horseback. 13 of them are from Mobile in New Orleans,
- 40:46Speaker 3: working with the six horseback officers in Oxford.
- 40:48Speaker 4: They called in the troops, literally.
- 40:51Speaker 2: They did.
- 40:52Speaker 3: Yesterday in Baton Rouge, defensive end Princewell Umilevan, he is
- 40:59Speaker 3: one of the Ole Miss players who went from Ole
- 41:01Speaker 3: Miss to LSU when Lane Kiffin left last year in
- 41:04Speaker 3: the middle of College Plath.
- 41:05Speaker 2: You remember that whole shebang.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Well, Old defensive end Princewell, who happens to be the
- 41:12Speaker 3: sack leader in college football right now from LSU after
- 41:15Speaker 3: transferring from Ole Miss, he was served with a notice
- 41:21Speaker 3: of a lawsuit against him by Ole Miss for transferring
- 41:24Speaker 3: to LSU. I mean, in the parking lot of the
- 41:29Speaker 3: LSU football facility, he's got served legal papers from the
- 41:34Speaker 3: breach of contract suit that Ole Miss is filing against LSU.
- 41:37Speaker 4: And they have every right to do so.
- 41:39Speaker 2: A player getting served a voice lawsuit by some server. Oh, man.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Have you ever been served?
- 41:49Speaker 2: I have. My friend of mine in Oakland was serving
- 41:52Speaker 2: someone for a lawsuit he had. And he had me
- 41:55Speaker 2: serve the papers because he couldn't do it because he
- 41:57Speaker 2: was a party in the lawsuit. Oh, right, right, right.
- 41:59Speaker 4: Yeah, that's why they hire those external parties.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Yes. Well, I was the external party. And I was
- 42:03Speaker 2: in the passenger seat. And we went into the Oakland Hills,
- 42:06Speaker 2: a beautiful neighborhood above Oakland. And I knocked on this
- 42:09Speaker 2: guy's door. So how it works, if you've ever done this,
- 42:13Speaker 2: either been served or served anyone, if they answer the door,
- 42:17Speaker 2: you hand in a paper, done. They can try to
- 42:19Speaker 2: refuse the papers, but if you actually physically see them
- 42:22Speaker 2: and contact them, it counts as a legal contact. And
- 42:25Speaker 2: if he doesn't take the papers, he can get charged
- 42:28Speaker 2: with refusing to be served or whatever the charge is.
- 42:31Speaker 2: So once he opened the door, I hand the papers.
- 42:33Speaker 2: I just left. I didn't even say anything.
- 42:36Speaker 4: Don't you have to say you've been served?
- 42:38Speaker 2: I don't think so. Maybe I did. I can't remember.
- 42:40Speaker 2: It's been 30 years ago.
- 42:41Speaker 3: Oh, this is when I lived in Oakland.
- 42:45Speaker 2: And he looked at me like, why the hell did
- 42:47Speaker 2: I open this door? Because I guess what it is, the.
- 42:51Speaker 3: Trick of being served or serving is just don't answer
- 42:54Speaker 3: the door or just don't answer whatever. As long as
- 42:56Speaker 3: you don't make physical eye or physical contact.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Correct.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Confirming who you are or anything like that.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Sounds like you've been through this before, too.
- 43:04Speaker 5: I had a restraining order against someone once, and I
- 43:09Speaker 5: had to go through an external party to serve that.
- 43:12Speaker 5: But this is, again, a very long time ago. But, yes,
- 43:16Speaker 5: that is a whole thing. And plus, I see it
- 43:18Speaker 5: in the movies, Greg. I just see what they hit,
- 43:21Speaker 5: you know.
- 43:22Speaker 2: That's true.
- 43:23Speaker 4: They did that quite a bit.
- 43:24Speaker 2: What was it?
- 43:24Speaker 4: Pineapple Express, Seth Rogen?
- 43:27Speaker 2: I didn't see that.
- 43:28Speaker 5: It's very funny, but you have to be prepared for
- 43:30Speaker 5: complete idiocracy.
- 43:34Speaker 4: It's just a funny movie.
- 43:35Speaker 5: Anyway, yeah, I think that was his job, where he
- 43:39Speaker 5: would dress up as FedEx agents and things like that
- 43:41Speaker 5: because you have to confirm the person's name, physically hand
- 43:45Speaker 5: them whatever paperwork it is, and then you say you've
- 43:49Speaker 5: been served so that it's confirmation.
- 43:53Speaker 2: I think now that I'm remembering, I did have to
- 43:55Speaker 2: say something to make it legal.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I did.
- 43:58Speaker 3: But so an LSU player who was playing for Ole
- 44:00Speaker 3: Miss last year got served papers in the parking lot
- 44:03Speaker 3: of the LSU football facility two days before LSU and

- 45:31Speaker 3: 2A of Northwest Conference Opener in Anacortes.
- 45:37Speaker 2: We're No. 3 Anacortes hosting No.
- 45:39Speaker 3: 1 Archbishop Murphy High School Coach Joe Cronin.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Join us live. on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline.
- 45:47Speaker 3: I know it's a busy day of work and then coaching,
- 45:49Speaker 3: so we'll let him go quickly here.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Coach, thanks for joining us. Great to have you on.
- 45:54Speaker 8: Hey, thanks so much for having me. Thanks so much for...
- 45:57Speaker 8: Supporting high school sports, high school football.
- 45:59Speaker 2: This is awesome. Yes, sir. You're welcome.
- 46:01Speaker 3: And what you do, hats off to you and what
- 46:03Speaker 3: all you coaches do out there for our youth and
- 46:06Speaker 3: the selfless service you do.
- 46:07Speaker 2: Really interesting showdown tonight. A matching of different contrasting styles.
- 46:13Speaker 3: As I've been told, Coach, you have changed Archbishop Murphy
- 46:17Speaker 3: to a wing T. I think Bellevue, for those of
- 46:19Speaker 3: you here in the Seattle area, closer in than Archbishop
- 46:22Speaker 3: Murphy up in Mill Creek, Everett. but why you did
- 46:25Speaker 3: that how that's going is this the first time you've
- 46:28Speaker 3: done this with and the physicality that that takes is
- 46:32Speaker 3: that something you're trying to bring to your program something
- 46:35Speaker 3: you already had after you had three division one prospects
- 46:38Speaker 3: leave after last.
- 46:39Speaker 8: Year yeah so no we've been in the uh the
- 46:43Speaker 8: wing t-based offense the past uh this is my fourth
- 46:46Speaker 8: year so When we got here, kind of installed it,
- 46:50Speaker 8: and we have some of the Bellevue coaches that were
- 46:52Speaker 8: there with Butch Goneroth back in the day on staff,
- 46:56Speaker 8: and that really helps as well. And I played in
- 46:58Speaker 8: the wing tee as well under Paul Lawrence and then
- 47:01Speaker 8: coached with Terry Ennis, who was a longtime coach up
- 47:04Speaker 8: at Archbishop earlier. But what it allows us to do
- 47:08Speaker 8: is control the ball. You don't always need a quarterback
- 47:12Speaker 8: in the offense. You can have smaller linemen, get angles
- 47:15Speaker 8: on guys, and play with speed. And then if you
- 47:17Speaker 8: do have all of the other intangibles receivers and whatnot,
- 47:21Speaker 8: you can spread it out a little bit. And so
- 47:23Speaker 8: that's kind of where we've morphed it for more of
- 47:25Speaker 8: a base wing tee to spread wing tee. So it's
- 47:28Speaker 8: been a great system for us.
- 47:30Speaker 2: And so you, you'd still want to run a throw
- 47:33Speaker 2: the football and how many times a game would you
- 47:35Speaker 2: on average store the football? Well, I'm a, I'm a
- 47:40Speaker 2: defensive guy at heart.
- 47:41Speaker 8: I was in a day before with a coach Kohler
- 47:43Speaker 8: helping on the defensive side. So, you know, And then
- 47:47Speaker 8: Coach Ennis back in the day said, two bad things
- 47:50Speaker 8: happen when.
- 47:50Speaker 2: You throw the football. But we're not like that. We
- 47:53Speaker 2: chuck it a little more. We probably chuck.
- 47:56Speaker 8: It 12, 15 times a game, maybe a little more,
- 47:58Speaker 8: depending on what teams give you. It depends on the
- 48:00Speaker 8: game plan. But no, we definitely throw it more than,
- 48:04Speaker 8: especially when I was in high school.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Right. Let me ask you, Joe, a bigger picture question,
- 48:09Speaker 2: if I may.
- 48:09Speaker 3: I know it's a game day and you're hyper-focused on
- 48:11Speaker 3: tonight's Talons and Anacortes. But The college game has changed
- 48:16Speaker 3: so much, and you are a program that does regularly
- 48:18Speaker 3: produce Division I college football players. What is your message
- 48:23Speaker 3: to them now in this NIL transfer portal era when
- 48:26Speaker 3: a lot of high school players have been, well, the
- 48:29Speaker 3: last few years, frankly, shut out of opportunities that have
- 48:31Speaker 3: been transfers have taken instead? Are you telling them to
- 48:34Speaker 3: go to perhaps a junior college route or NAIA and
- 48:37Speaker 3: relaunch into Division I after that, or What is your message?
- 48:41Speaker 2: How has it changed? And even the last couple of years,
- 48:43Speaker 2: you've been the head coach at Archbishop Murphy.
- 48:48Speaker 8: No, we've been fortunate here to have some great athletes
- 48:51Speaker 8: and even more importantly, scholastically, some good kids, which opens
- 48:54Speaker 8: up your options as well at the next level and
- 48:57Speaker 8: same before at O'Day. But the biggest thing talking to
- 49:03Speaker 8: kids is just, and I've seen it over and over,
- 49:07Speaker 8: go to somewhere where you feel like It's a place
- 49:10Speaker 8: you want to be a part of regardless of football.
- 49:12Speaker 8: I know that's easy to say because there's money involved,
- 49:15Speaker 8: but man, you see people, you know, a kid starts somewhere,
- 49:19Speaker 8: then transfer to here. and transfer to there and transfer,
- 49:22Speaker 8: which is a rough way to go through college, you know,
- 49:25Speaker 8: making connections and whatnot.
- 49:28Speaker 2: But I think that is the.
- 49:29Speaker 8: Most important and the NIL world has changed it a
- 49:31Speaker 8: lot as far as, you know, the younger, the smaller
- 49:35Speaker 8: programs are, growing kids to you know eventually go to
- 49:39Speaker 8: you know d1 um so you can grow at the
- 49:41Speaker 8: junior college too so we just kind of tell them
- 49:44Speaker 8: go where you see you feel like you're wanted and
- 49:47Speaker 8: it feels like a good spot for you to grow
- 49:49Speaker 8: and be and then usually everything else.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Works out hmm that's pretty good advice and it's great
- 49:55Speaker 2: that you have.
- 50:00Speaker 8: I stayed in college for four years and played rugby
- 50:02Speaker 8: so you know it wasn't like you know college football but.
- 50:07Speaker 3: Joe, I wanted to ask you, because the wing tee
- 50:08Speaker 3: is such a unique offense, especially in this spread, prolific
- 50:11Speaker 3: spread offense in football and college high school these.
- 50:14Speaker 2: Days, what is your off-season program? I mean, everyone lifts weights,
- 50:18Speaker 2: but do you do anything in particular for your style
- 50:21Speaker 2: of offense that might be different? You mentioned smaller linemen
- 50:24Speaker 2: who are quicker. Do you do agility drills that you
- 50:26Speaker 2: maybe wouldn't have done if you weren't doing the wing tee?
- 50:29Speaker 2: Or is there anything in particular to your training that
- 50:32Speaker 2: is based solely on how you run your offense?
- 50:36Speaker 8: I think, you know, we have a phenomenal, we have
- 50:38Speaker 8: a strength coach, Archbishop, Coach James. I'll give Jordan James
- 50:42Speaker 8: a shout out. And we have the new Lucas Center,
- 50:45Speaker 8: which is our weight room, which, you know, Abe Lucas,
- 50:48Speaker 8: we honored him last week at the game. He came
- 50:52Speaker 8: and Andrew, his brother, is a senior tailback for us. And,
- 50:56Speaker 8: I mean, they do a phenomenal, he does a phenomenal
- 50:58Speaker 8: job in there as far as training our kids. But, Honestly,
- 51:02Speaker 8: it's about quickness and it's about leverage. We're big on stretching,
- 51:08Speaker 8: getting low, getting your hips and knees to bend to
- 51:10Speaker 8: make sure that we have correct leverage on our blocks.
- 51:13Speaker 8: And we want, you know, shoulders and on hips. And
- 51:17Speaker 8: I will say we still do all the seven on seven.
- 51:20Speaker 2: We throw the ball.
- 51:21Speaker 8: So in all of that stuff, and then we have
- 51:23Speaker 8: our spread sets. And where that helps us, too, is.
- 51:27Speaker 8: helping on the back end of the defense, working on
- 51:30Speaker 8: your defense against other teams that run.
- 51:31Speaker 6: Spread sets and so on and so forth.
- 51:33Speaker 8: So I would say the training is similar, but, again,
- 51:40Speaker 8: really trying to work on leverage and flexibility, which helps
- 51:43Speaker 8: you maintain your health as well.
- 51:47Speaker 2: Do you do yoga as a team or encourage kids
- 51:50Speaker 2: to do it?
- 51:50Speaker 9: We do.
- 51:51Speaker 2: I knew you would. I knew you would, Joe.
- 51:53Speaker 6: Namaste.
- 51:54Speaker 2: Namaste. Namaste. That's right. What do the kids think of that?
- 51:58Speaker 2: Because a lot of them probably never did yoga before this.
- 52:02Speaker 8: No, they don't.
- 52:02Speaker 2: Yeah, they do not.
- 52:04Speaker 8: And to be honest, like it's nice, you know, to
- 52:08Speaker 8: do some of that in a quiet room where you're
- 52:09Speaker 8: going to get the mindfulness, you get to think a
- 52:11Speaker 8: little bit. But the flexibility is really for us a
- 52:16Speaker 8: huge asset in injury prevention. You know, we're a 1A
- 52:20Speaker 8: school playing 2A. generally might have a few less kids.
- 52:25Speaker 8: So we need to maintain our health throughout the year.
- 52:27Speaker 8: So if we can maintain that with flexibility and, and
- 52:31Speaker 8: some of the yoga and some of the stretching and
- 52:33Speaker 8: all of that, um, to at least prevent some of
- 52:36Speaker 8: those injuries, that's big for us.
- 52:38Speaker 9: All right.
- 52:38Speaker 3: What are you expecting tonight, Joe from Anacortes? They run
- 52:40Speaker 3: the spread, the RPOs spread you out on defense. So
- 52:43Speaker 3: what's the challenge there?
- 52:46Speaker 8: Oh, it's a huge challenge. Um, they, they, they've been,
- 52:50Speaker 8: they're a phenomenal program. They're well coached. Um, good football
- 52:54Speaker 8: players and a fun atmosphere. I mean, they'll spread you out.
- 52:56Speaker 8: They'll put you in space. They always have a great
- 52:59Speaker 8: screen game.
- 53:00Speaker 2: They have a good quarterback.
- 53:01Speaker 6: This is his third year as a starter.
- 53:03Speaker 2: Brian Harrington.
- 53:04Speaker 8: Um, yeah, Brian Harrington. And I think he's, you know,
- 53:07Speaker 8: I don't know how the commitment stuff works, but I
- 53:09Speaker 8: know he has a, an offer at, uh, Washington state
- 53:12Speaker 8: to be quarterback there. And he deserves all of it.
- 53:14Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 53:16Speaker 8: So there you go.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Little coogs.
- 53:18Speaker 8: Um, but yeah, yeah, they're going to present lots of problems,
- 53:22Speaker 8: especially on the defensive side of the ball, or for us.
- 53:26Speaker 8: And then defensively, they get after it. They pack the box.
- 53:29Speaker 8: They'll run some man cover. They'll bring backers. So it'll
- 53:32Speaker 8: be a physical football game, and it'll be a fun atmosphere.
- 53:35Speaker 2: And your boys at Arch, Mr.
- 53:36Speaker 3: Murray, anybody in particular you'd like us to shout out
- 53:38Speaker 3: for their commitment to the program and just the guys
- 53:41Speaker 3: you have?
- 53:43Speaker 9: Oh, it's just, I mean– You're like your dad.
- 53:46Speaker 2: It's tough to single them out, right? Yeah.
- 53:49Speaker 8: And we're really about, you know, the assistant coaches are
- 53:51Speaker 8: awesome and the players are awesome. And we're big on
- 53:53Speaker 8: community and coaching by community and no egos.
- 53:57Speaker 2: And same on the team.
- 53:58Speaker 8: You know, it's a it's a really no ego group,
- 54:01Speaker 8: a lot of selflessness among the group. But this senior
- 54:05Speaker 8: class is special because for me personally, I came in
- 54:11Speaker 8: in their freshman year. So they've been part of this
- 54:13Speaker 8: program since I've been there and to see them grow
- 54:16Speaker 8: and to see them mature. and all of that stuff.
- 54:18Speaker 8: That's kind of what coaching is about. And, and the
- 54:21Speaker 8: way they play kind of together, we're about playing together.
- 54:23Speaker 8: And there's one, you know, one unit on both sides
- 54:27Speaker 8: of the ball. And, and it's just a fun, fun group.
- 54:30Speaker 8: I don't want to give anybody, you know, like an
- 54:34Speaker 8: individual shout out, but I said, as a group playing team,
- 54:37Speaker 8: we just, we have a really, really, really good group
- 54:40Speaker 8: of kids.
- 54:41Speaker 2: That's what makes it fun. That's, That's cool.
- 54:43Speaker 3: And again, hats off to what you do, Joe and
- 54:46Speaker 3: the Archbishop Murphy community. Good luck tonight. Thanks for joining
- 54:49Speaker 3: us on a game day. I know it's busy for you.
- 54:51Speaker 3: I really appreciate the time, Joe. Good luck in everything
- 54:53Speaker 3: you do.
- 54:54Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 54:55Speaker 8: And thanks for doing this too. I'm also, you know,
- 54:57Speaker 8: I know you talked to coach Bartle, uh, with the
- 54:59Speaker 8: president of the coach association. I'm the vice president. All
- 55:03Speaker 8: you do for the association and all this and promoting
- 55:06Speaker 8: high school sports.
- 55:07Speaker 2: It's, It's awesome.
- 55:09Speaker 8: So thank you for doing that.
- 55:10Speaker 2: I appreciate that, Joe. Thank you very much, sir. Good
- 55:12Speaker 2: luck tonight and the rest of the season. Thanks, Joe.
- 55:15Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 55:16Speaker 3: Coach Joe Cronin of Archbishop Murphy High School, the No.
- 55:18Speaker 3: 1 team in Class 2A, playing up. They're a 1A
- 55:21Speaker 3: school by enrollment, but as good as they are, they
- 55:23Speaker 3: play up to 2A.
- 55:24Speaker 2: The No.
- 55:24Speaker 3: 3 team in Class 2A is also in the Northwest
- 55:28Speaker 3: Conference with Archbishop Murphy, and they're hosting Archbishop Murphy Night's Anacortes.
- 55:32Speaker 3: We're going to go live to Anacortes right now, where
- 55:34Speaker 3: Justin Portz is the athletic director and also.
- 55:36Speaker 2: The head football coach there. And if I'm not mistaken,
- 55:39Speaker 2: Coach Port, you are also a 27-year veteran of the U.S. Navy.
- 55:43Speaker 2: Is that correct?
- 55:45Speaker 8: That's correct.
- 55:45Speaker 9: Yeah, that's correct. You did a little research.
- 55:47Speaker 2: I did.
- 55:48Speaker 3: I'm a reporter. That's what I do. First of all,
- 55:50Speaker 3: hats off to you, sir. Thank you for serving our country.
- 55:53Speaker 3: What was your specialty in the Navy before we get
- 55:55Speaker 3: to the football?
- 55:57Speaker 9: I did aviation ordnance for 27 years.
- 56:01Speaker 6: 27 years.
- 56:01Speaker 2: Is that how you got out to the side of
- 56:02Speaker 2: the neck of the woods?
- 56:04Speaker 9: I did my last tour at Whidbey Island out here
- 56:08Speaker 9: in Oak Harbor, and we just liked it here and
- 56:10Speaker 9: had kids, school-aged kids, and just decided this was a
- 56:12Speaker 9: good place to drop anchor.
- 56:14Speaker 2: Wow. Tell me, sir, what you do now for Anacortes
- 56:18Speaker 2: High School and the football team, your military lessons and experiences,
- 56:24Speaker 2: how do they apply to leading young men in football?
- 56:28Speaker 9: Well, you know, in the military, coming into it as
- 56:31Speaker 9: a young man, and then you kind of work through
- 56:34Speaker 9: the ranks, and you're leading young people from all over
- 56:36Speaker 9: the country, every type of diverse group from everywhere, every
- 56:40Speaker 9: kind of background you could imagine. And so when you
- 56:43Speaker 9: come into the high school setting, it's really no different.
- 56:45Speaker 9: It's young people that are trying to figure things out
- 56:47Speaker 9: in life, and if you can find a way to
- 56:50Speaker 9: point them in the right direction and help them be
- 56:51Speaker 9: successful some way, then I think you're doing a pretty
- 56:53Speaker 9: good job.
- 56:54Speaker 2: Well, hats off to you again. Go Army, beat Navy, sir.
- 56:57Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 56:57Speaker 9: Right on.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Well, tonight's game, it's a clash of styles that are
- 57:04Speaker 2: completely different.
- 57:05Speaker 3: You, as I understand, spread RPO, really spread them out
- 57:08Speaker 3: and do a modern offense where Joe's got Archbishop Murphy
- 57:11Speaker 3: in a wing tee, power set, physicality.
- 57:15Speaker 2: The clash of styles.
- 57:16Speaker 3: Tell me how, as a coach, X's and O's wise,
- 57:19Speaker 3: that you prepare your kids to see something they never
- 57:21Speaker 3: see in practice.
- 57:24Speaker 9: Yeah, well, it's hard to, I mean, I can't say
- 57:26Speaker 9: it's hard. It's impossible to give the right scout look
- 57:31Speaker 9: because you're never going to run it as good as
- 57:32Speaker 9: the other team does. And so, you know, there's some
- 57:35Speaker 9: ways around that. We try to just focus on getting
- 57:37Speaker 9: lined up the right way is the most important thing
- 57:39Speaker 9: when you play a wing tee team.
- 57:40Speaker 6: And if they move.
- 57:41Speaker 9: Guys around a little bit, you know, if they catch
- 57:44Speaker 9: out of alignment, they're winning before the ball snaps. So
- 57:46Speaker 9: we just really focus on the basics, like get lined
- 57:49Speaker 9: up right, understand what your assignment is, and at the
- 57:51Speaker 9: snap of the ball, we're just playing football. And And
- 57:54Speaker 9: if we do that well, we've got a chance. And
- 57:56Speaker 9: so we really try to focus on that. Our scout
- 57:58Speaker 9: team will just line up and snap a ball, maybe
- 58:01Speaker 9: move a couple guys around. But we don't pretend that
- 58:03Speaker 9: our scout can run their offense like they can. So
- 58:07Speaker 9: we don't spend a lot of time really trying to
- 58:08Speaker 9: do that. I wish we could, but it's kind of
- 58:12Speaker 9: a waste of time. So we focus on the other stuff.
- 58:14Speaker 3: I have to assume that eye discipline is something you've
- 58:16Speaker 3: been stressing this week and not peeking into the backfield
- 58:19Speaker 3: and trying to guess.
- 58:19Speaker 2: Where the ball is and just beating your man and
- 58:21Speaker 2: doing your assignments.
- 58:23Speaker 9: Yeah, you got to do that. You have to, you know,
- 58:25Speaker 9: there's a lot of misdirection. And if you get caught
- 58:27Speaker 9: up in that, you're chasing ghosts. And, you know, they
- 58:30Speaker 9: do that well. So, yeah, just being real disciplined and
- 58:33Speaker 9: guys just doing their job, not trying to do too much.
- 58:35Speaker 9: We talk about that a lot, too. If 11 guys
- 58:38Speaker 9: do their job, it makes sense. Um, it makes it
- 58:40Speaker 9: harder on the other team. They kind of count on
- 58:42Speaker 9: one or two guys, maybe, you know, trying to do
- 58:44Speaker 9: a little extra and that's when you get out of
- 58:46Speaker 9: position and, and, uh, big plays happen. So, um, you know,
- 58:49Speaker 9: they've had a lot of really big plays the last
- 58:51Speaker 9: two years, um, explosive after explosive. So obviously, um, teams
- 58:56Speaker 9: that statistically have explosive plays when had a high percentage.
- 59:00Speaker 9: So if we can limit explosive plays and just kind
- 59:02Speaker 9: of make them, make them earn it, if they're going
- 59:03Speaker 9: to do it, make them earn it. And, uh, we
- 59:05Speaker 9: can do that. And we feel like we've got a
- 59:07Speaker 9: fighting chance.
- 59:07Speaker 3: We're talking to Justin Portz. He's the athletic director. and
- 59:10Speaker 3: head football coach at Anacortes High School, the No. 3
- 59:12Speaker 3: team in Class 2A, who tonight hosts Archbishop Murray, the No.
- 59:15Speaker 3: 1 team in 2A, in a huge Northwest Conference showdown.
- 59:18Speaker 3: We're talking here on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline on a
- 59:20Speaker 3: Washington State Beef Commission football Friday on 93.3 KJRFM. Justin,
- 59:24Speaker 3: let me ask you about your quarterback, Ryan Harrington. He's
- 59:27Speaker 3: a Class of 2027, but already committed to the Washington
- 59:30Speaker 3: State University Cougars. How much of, I'm assuming, much of
- 59:33Speaker 3: what you do revolves around his talent and throwing the ball?
- 59:38Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 59:38Speaker 9: Special player. You know, there's a lot of stuff that
- 59:41Speaker 9: we do that we couldn't do without him, and we
- 59:45Speaker 9: put a lot on his plate and really push him.
- 59:47Speaker 9: He wants it, so we try to push him as
- 59:49Speaker 9: much as we can to be the coach on the field.
- 59:53Speaker 9: We give him the keys to the car. He can
- 59:56Speaker 9: change plays. He can audible. He checks in and out
- 59:59Speaker 9: of stuff, and um, pass protection and all that stuff.
- 1:00:02Speaker 9: And so we can't always do that, but with him
- 1:00:04Speaker 9: we can. And so, um, you know, we go, we
- 1:00:06Speaker 9: go as far as he can take us and we
- 1:00:08Speaker 9: surround him with a lot of guys that work really
- 1:00:11Speaker 9: hard and, uh, don't want to let each other down.
- 1:00:13Speaker 9: So it's like, everybody kind of knows their role on
- 1:00:16Speaker 9: the team and they're going to go out there tonight
- 1:00:18Speaker 9: and give, you know, full effort and they're going to
- 1:00:20Speaker 9: sell out for four quarters of football for each other. And,
- 1:00:23Speaker 9: and obviously with Ryan, um, Getting the snap every play,
- 1:00:27Speaker 9: when your best player's holding the football, you've got a
- 1:00:29Speaker 9: chance to probably do something special.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: You mentioned giving your quarterback, Ryan Harrington, a lot of latitude.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: What does that mean? Is that either or? Is it
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: the line of scrimmage? Does he have the ability to
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: change any play to any play, or what parameters do
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: you give him?
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: He does.
- 1:00:42Speaker 9: He, he has full autonomy. And the only thing that, uh,
- 1:00:45Speaker 9: I'll ask him is if he changes a play, he's
- 1:00:47Speaker 9: got to have a good answer.
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: Why?
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: And so it can't.
- 1:00:50Speaker 9: Just be because I like that play better or whatever.
- 1:00:52Speaker 9: He's got to tell me why, you know, I saw,
- 1:00:53Speaker 9: I thought the safety was down or I thought the,
- 1:00:55Speaker 9: you know, the, they shaded into a inside shade. I
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: thought I could, you know, do whatever. So he's, he's
- 1:01:00Speaker 9: checking coverage and he's checking alignment in the box. And
- 1:01:03Speaker 9: it's a lot of stuff for a high school quarterback,
- 1:01:05Speaker 9: but he's proven that he can do it. Um, and yeah,
- 1:01:08Speaker 9: and he has full, he has our full menu of
- 1:01:09Speaker 9: plays and, uh, And I just, he'll come to the
- 1:01:12Speaker 9: sideline and he'll just say, hey, what'd you see there?
- 1:01:14Speaker 9: And why'd you change the play? And he always has
- 1:01:15Speaker 9: a good answer. And so I trust him, especially his
- 1:01:18Speaker 9: senior year, to go out there and try to get
- 1:01:21Speaker 9: us in the right look. So we're at least not,
- 1:01:24Speaker 9: it's a numbers game. So we're just trying not to
- 1:01:26Speaker 9: give ourselves a disadvantage before the ball snaps.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: Coach Portz, tell us, those of us who have never
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: been to Anacortes High School for a football game, the environment,
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: the atmosphere that that town comes out for on Friday nights.
- 1:01:38Speaker 9: Well, you know, if you go back historically, there's been
- 1:01:41Speaker 9: a spread of some good teams here and there over history,
- 1:01:45Speaker 9: but traditionally it hasn't been a team that had a
- 1:01:46Speaker 9: lot of success. So in the past few years, football
- 1:01:49Speaker 9: has had a resurgence, and the community has really rallied
- 1:01:52Speaker 9: behind that and come out to support. And this being
- 1:01:55Speaker 9: our first home game and then having to have Archbishop
- 1:01:58Speaker 9: Murphy play, the, the, the defending state champs and number
- 1:02:01Speaker 9: one ranked team coming to town. I'm sure everybody's cleared
- 1:02:05Speaker 9: their schedule for Friday night. I expect to have a
- 1:02:07Speaker 9: packed house here and it's a cool environment, especially early
- 1:02:10Speaker 9: in the year when the weather's nice, you can see
- 1:02:12Speaker 9: a little glimpse of the Bay. You can see the
- 1:02:14Speaker 9: water from a top of our stadium and it kind
- 1:02:17Speaker 9: of sits down into a bowl a little bit. So
- 1:02:20Speaker 9: the noise even kind of echoes over the state. It's
- 1:02:22Speaker 9: just a great place to play football and really nothing
- 1:02:25Speaker 9: better than like September football at Anacortes is pretty special.
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: Justin, I have to ask you, and at the risk
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: of being somewhat controversial, your feeling about being a public
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: high school competing with private schools who have had advantages
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: in recruiting and other things in Washington State. Unlike California
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: and other schools, the private schools play in the public
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: school leagues and they mix.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Are you cool with that, the way the system is?
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: Are you and a lot of coaches potentially looking down
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: the line at maybe changing that and separating the schools?
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: Sure.
- 1:02:54Speaker 9: Yeah, I focused a lot of energy on it last
- 1:02:57Speaker 9: year because I just really was feeling like it's a
- 1:03:00Speaker 9: big advantage. At the 2A level especially, you've got Anacortes
- 1:03:06Speaker 9: kids who are a small school, and they all live
- 1:03:08Speaker 9: within an eight-mile radius of the high school here. They
- 1:03:11Speaker 9: work really hard, and we have a pretty good team.
- 1:03:12Speaker 9: The team we had last year was just probably one
- 1:03:16Speaker 9: of the best 2A teams probably historically ever. They had
- 1:03:20Speaker 9: multiple Division I kids all over the place. So it
- 1:03:24Speaker 9: really just felt like there's no shot. And so it
- 1:03:29Speaker 9: is hard as a public school to feel like you're
- 1:03:31Speaker 9: kind of playing against different rules. There's some different rules
- 1:03:35Speaker 9: and advantages that the private schools get. But, you know,
- 1:03:40Speaker 9: no blame to the players that want to go there.
- 1:03:42Speaker 9: I mean, you know, they've got great facilities and they're winning. So,
- 1:03:46Speaker 9: you know, if you're in the 50-mile radius, which is
- 1:03:48Speaker 9: where they can pull kids from, In the North Seattle-Everett area,
- 1:03:52Speaker 9: there's millions of kids in that area to pull from,
- 1:03:55Speaker 9: and they go there for whatever reasons to have a
- 1:03:59Speaker 9: better life. advantage or or uh opportunity for themselves and
- 1:04:03Speaker 9: um but i i do think that the california model
- 1:04:06Speaker 9: or texas model something like that would probably be better
- 1:04:09Speaker 9: let the private schools play each other and in the
- 1:04:11Speaker 9: playoffs they can still schedule non-league games with with two
- 1:04:14Speaker 9: a's three a's whatever and you know they like last
- 1:04:17Speaker 9: year they kind of went through and blew everybody out
- 1:04:19Speaker 9: all season and they didn't really have a game until
- 1:04:21Speaker 9: tom water gave them a little bit of pushback in
- 1:04:23Speaker 9: the state championship but they still won by multiple scores
- 1:04:26Speaker 9: and i just don't know that that's a I mean,
- 1:04:28Speaker 9: winning is fun, but it's probably not– it's more fun
- 1:04:30Speaker 9: to be challenged and then win, and I just don't
- 1:04:33Speaker 9: know that that's the experience those kids are getting to
- 1:04:35Speaker 9: just win. That's 50 to nothing at halftime.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: Well, tonight's your opportunity, Coach, to have your shot. And
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: you got the Ryan Harrington and Anna Cordes High School
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: going against Archbishop Murphy.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: I appreciate you joining us on a game day, a
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: big game day for you. And hats off, sir. You've
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: spent 27 years serving our country. And now you're spending
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: your post-military career serving your community and children and young
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: adults of that. And for that, sir, we salute you.
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: Thank you for joining us.
- 1:05:04Speaker 9: I appreciate you. Thank you very much.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: Justin Portz, head coach, athletic director at Anacortes High School,
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: where tonight they're hosting number three. Anacortes is hosting number
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: one defending state champion Archbishop Murphy. in a showdown in
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: Class 2A in the Northwest Conference on our High School
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: Football Friday Showcase. We'll have another showcase game and talk
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: to two coaches next Friday on our Washington State League
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: Commissions Football Friday. It rolls on next with your chance
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: to be a part of the show, 49451 on the
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: Tacoma Dodge text line or your talkbacks on the iHeartRadio
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: app or 933KGO.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: Com. Your talkbacks and texts are next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: Hey Greg, come on over for the big game Sunday,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: I'm making.
- 1:05:56Speaker 6: Hawk dip and pork sliders with some pendergast slaw.
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Go Hawks! I'm a little busy, but I appreciate the invite. Slaw?
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: What's in the slaw, I wonder?
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: Sounds like a good invite. I don't know what hawk
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: slaw is.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: Does that mean chopped up bird?
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: Oh, no, no, no, especially because bird nerdy over here. Yeah,
- 1:06:21Speaker 5: because that would either be an osprey or an auger hawk,
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: and we don't want to ruin any of those.
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: Aren't they endangered species, too, or protected species or something?
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: They were, except I think the osprey got taken off of.
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: The endangered list.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: We are speaking, and you are listening to a bird savant. Nerd.
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: Have you ever seen The Big Ear? No. That's Jessamyn McIntyre.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: That is Jessamyn McIntyre.
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: I have a wish list. I have lipers.
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: If you haven't seen The Big Year on the text line.
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: It's so good.
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: Listeners out there, if you haven't seen The Big Year,
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: Steve Martin, is it Jack Black?
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: No, I think Owen, wasn't it Owen Wilson?
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: Owen Wilson's in that. He's the bad guy.
- 1:07:00Speaker 10: Yes.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: Leaves his pregnant wife at a moment's notice to go
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: chase birds across North America. Well, part of the scene
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: comes through the Northwest, right? And there's a ferry terminal.
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: Every time we've watched it, our kids really like that movie.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: And we're trying to figure out what ferry terminal that is.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: Do you happen to know?
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: I don't. Remember that Owen Wilson pulls a fast one
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: and cuts the line and gets on the ferry and
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: leaves Steve Martin in the dust?
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: And you are right. Jack Black.
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: Yep.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: Jack Black and Steve Martin were trying to get on
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: a ferry together. They teamed up for this birdwatching big
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: year thing. And Owen Wilson and run them, all of them,
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: and got on the ferry ahead of everybody. Does the
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: very un-Northwest thing and gets on a ferry. And I'm
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: always trying to remember what ferry. Think about what ferry
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: that is. It looks like the San Juan Islands, maybe.
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: I would assume.
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: I've done a little bit of ferries in my time
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: here in 30 years in Seattle. If you know what
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: I'm talking about, 49451. By the way, the Tacoma Dutch
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: Tech sign also has sports on it, too. We're going
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: to talk about that.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: Yes, we should. But.
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: Speaking of sports.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: 206 says, proud of you, Greg. You showed great restraint
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: in not hitting that coach with one more go Army
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: beat Navy on the way out.
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: You got one in.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: 27 years, man. I don't care what service you served in.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: I'm saluting 27 years of service.
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: And then going back into technically service.
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: He is.
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: He's serving in the community up there in Anacortes. Your
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: chance to win $ 1, 000, Factor Fiction, is right now.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: We're set to go. Glad you're with us.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: It's your shot at our weekly $ 1, 000 and the $ 10, 000
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: grand prize.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: It's Fact or Fiction.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: Proudly presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, where every
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: day feels lucky.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Fact or Fiction is on.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: Sports Radio 93.3, KJR FM.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: I almost forgot. I was going on about Anna Cordes
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: and 27 years in the Navy, the coach up there
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: in Anna Cordes has.
- 1:08:59Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: So sorry. I almost forgot.
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: Well, who could forget about Factor Fiction presented by Lucky
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: Eagle Casino.
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: And Hotel Sports Radio 93.3 brings you Factor Fiction every weekday, 735, 1135,
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: 235 and 335. We make a pick based on the
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: upcoming College of Pro Games of the Week or Weekend.
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: either against the spread or over under total points. You,
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: the listener, will have 12 minutes to text either fact
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: if you agree with what I'm about to pick or
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: fiction if you don't want $ 1, 000.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: Text that to 49451. The contest will end on December 11th.
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: You only have to win once during a week of
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: 20 opportunities to pick. If you win once, you put
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: in the hat, your name's put in the hat to
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: be drawn on Monday who wins $ 1, 000 this week. But
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: it behooves you to enter as many times as you
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: can because whoever wins the most between now and December 11th, Army, Navy, Friday.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: And Jessamyn and I will be in Times Square in
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: New York broadcasting there.
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: Can't wait.
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: Whoever wins the most between now and December 11th will
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: win $ 10, 000.
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: From the Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel. Okay, I'm going
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: back to college football. Not only that, I'm going back
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: to the Big Sky Conference. Montana is at Oregon State.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: The late, late game Saturday night. I mean, 8 p.m.
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: Pacific, like 11 o'clock is going to end at 2,
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: 2.33 o'clock Eastern time in the morning. Montana, you know
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: the Grizz, right? They're number three in the football championship subdivision.
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: They're always top two, three. They're in Montana State. The
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: Bobcats are just rolling over there right now. Montana has
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: beaten this season Southern Utah 28-21. They beat Drake out
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: of Des Moines, Iowa 45-10. And they beat Utah Tech
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: last week 35-14. They're ranked number three in the country,
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: as I said, in FCS. Oregon State, we know about
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: their story. Them and the Cougs both just absolutely left
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: behind by the Pac-12. And now they're trying to forge
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: their own new conference and reform Pac-12. Well, in unranked play,
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: they play two nationally ranked teams. They lost 33-10 at Houston,
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: and they lost 35-24 to Texas Tech. Montana is getting
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: 17.5 points at Oregon State. Do we really think that
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: Oregon State is three touchdowns better than Montana?
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: I know it's an FCS school, but here we go again.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: Eastern Washington getting 43 at Washington just because they're a
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: big sky school, and Eastern Washington is not a tomato can.
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: And Montana is absolutely not a tomato can. FCS or not, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme.
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: I'll be happy to take 17.5 points, the Grizz on
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: the road at the Beavers in Corvallis Saturday night.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: If you agree with me, if you think.
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: That Montana will either lose by 17 points or fewer, hell,
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: win outright at Oregon State, text FACT to 49451. If
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: you disagree with me, think the Beavs are going to
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: beat the Grizz by at least 18 or maybe more points,
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: text FICTION to 49451.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: You have 12 minutes.
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: And then Ian Furness will have your next opportunity at 235.
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: Montana plus 17 and a half. I'm going big sky
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: this week in a big way.
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: Yeah, you are.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: Two of my three picks. But I love the Grizz.
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: I love the program. I love the stadium on the
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: side of the hill. I love everything about Montana football.
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: The Ryan Divishes going down to Corvallis. Yeah, give me
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: 17 and a half in the Grizz, please.
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: The fighting Divishes.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: The whirling Divish. Whirling Divishes. Maybe Brian. Well, Ryan's in.
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: He'll probably be at T-Mobile Park on Saturday. Oh, no,
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: he'll be in Colorado.
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: Oh, Rockies, right?
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: Horsefield.
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: You talk about a guy who deserves a salute. Ryan
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: Divish and Adam Jude for the Seattle Times beat writers
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: for putting up with the season that they've had to
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: cover this year with the Mariners.
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: There's no way that is any Monica Mopizzi.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: They should win a Pointer Institute Award or something for that.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: Grizz are getting 17 and a half.
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: I'm saying give me those points because I think the
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: Grizz are going to lose by fewer than 17 or
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: they're going to win outright at Oregon State. If you agree,
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: text FAC to 49451. If you disagree, text FICTION to 49451.
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: A couple more texts on the Tacoma Dodge text line.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: All right, I see a couple. Go Navy, beat Army.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: I can't even say that. It's just like foreign. It
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: barely comes out of my mouth.
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: That's like me saying something about UW, which I won't say.
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: It feels bad in my mouth.
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: 425 says, I don't think you've talked Mariners the whole show.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: I just ruined that. Man, there's like 12 exclamation points
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: on that thank you in all caps.
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: I think that it's been a rough go for the
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: fans this year.
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: There are a few on here that says they appreciated
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: us bringing up the private school versus public school and
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: the private school advantages. Great question about the private school advantage.
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: Let's keep beating that drum from 253. Jim from the 425,
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: friend of the show. Thank you for bringing up the
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: private versus public issue. Go Anacortes. The 206, that's actually
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: the one who prompted the question from me. I read
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: it on the text line. 206, it'd be great if
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: Washington moved the California system of separating private and public schools.
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: Look O'Day last year with one of their running backs.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: We won't get into that.
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: Archbishop Murphy with three Division I prospects. Completely unfair to
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: those schools that have to adhere to a geographic territory.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: And you heard the coach talk about he's got kids
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: just from Anacortes. Now, WIA has changed where you can
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: have one free transfer, but it's still supposed to be
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: for some kind of familiar reason. You're not, by the
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: spirit of the law, not supposed to just move around
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: to find a school, but that's where it's headed, especially
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: with NIL money coming to high school football. But you
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: heard the coach talk about 50-mile radius for private schools.
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: Let me just say that's a soft radius in practical application.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: We'll just put it that way. But yeah, Archbishop Murphy,
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: a 1A school by enrollment, 2A school by athletics and football,
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: the number one team, the defending state champion, had been
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: steamrolling teams. You remember a few years ago, they were
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: canceling games because Archbishop Murphy was winning 60-0 at halftime.
- 1:14:50Speaker 3: And opponents were just refusing to play.
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: This was 10, 15 years ago.
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: Anyway, Anacortes hosts them tonight, the three versus one. There's
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: a ton of other big games tonight. The Fish Bowl,
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: Gig Harbor and Peninsula. I'm at Bellevue versus Linden Christian,
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: the 1A Linden Christian Power, stepping up to the number
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: one team in 3A. I'm officiating that game tonight. We
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: got Glacier Peak and Bothell. I think that might have
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: been last night, actually. A lot of great high school
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: football going on now as the league play starts to begin.
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: Up next on our Washington State Beef Commission Football Friday,
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: Ian Furness is back from Puckland, back from Kraken Training Camp.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: He'll join us next to tell us what's on his show.
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: I think Danny O'Neill is on on Fridays. We'll talk
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: to you next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: Welcome back to a Washington State Beef Commission's Football Friday.
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: We got a text on the text line from the
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: 206 saying that we'd rather listen to talk about the
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: Mariners than high school football.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: Okay, you're an idiot. I don't think that's even possible
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: right now. You're just an idiot.
- 1:15:57Speaker 11: Why would you want to hear about the Mariners? We've
- 1:15:59Speaker 11: been talking about them and their follies for the last
- 1:16:01Speaker 11: five months. I'm going to just say this. I love
- 1:16:05Speaker 11: the high school segment you guys are doing. I appreciate that.
- 1:16:07Speaker 10: Last week, my buddy Steve Alec was on with Benton. Steve,
- 1:16:10Speaker 10: I've known Steve forever at Liberty. He does an incredible
- 1:16:13Speaker 10: job there building a program up. But I was talking
- 1:16:18Speaker 10: to somebody today about the Seattle Times. And God, I
- 1:16:23Speaker 10: remember the days when Mason Kelly was working there and
- 1:16:25Speaker 10: just did an incredible, and like, you know, the News
- 1:16:27Speaker 10: Tribune down South and what used to be the Everett
- 1:16:30Speaker 10: Herald up North would kind of handle Snohomish County, Pierce
- 1:16:32Speaker 10: County and stuff like that. But all the schools in
- 1:16:34Speaker 10: Seattle and on the East side, that, you know, are really,
- 1:16:38Speaker 10: they're just ignored by the local newspaper of record now.
- 1:16:40Speaker 10: And I think it's the saddest thing going on because,
- 1:16:43Speaker 10: you know, I was always told from people in the
- 1:16:45Speaker 10: newspaper business that some of their most read stories were
- 1:16:49Speaker 10: either back in the days of people buying papers where
- 1:16:51Speaker 10: people just buy Saturday papers.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: That's right. To see what their kid did. And now
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: we don't even have Saturday papers. You don't have Saturday papers.
- 1:16:57Speaker 10: Or even in the digital era, it was the high
- 1:16:59Speaker 10: school stuff got a lot of, I just don't get it. And,
- 1:17:03Speaker 10: you know, it's kind of, to me, Greg, like college football,
- 1:17:07Speaker 10: that it's a cumulative thing. Like 14 million, I think,
- 1:17:12Speaker 10: watched Ohio State, Texas last week. But if you add
- 1:17:15Speaker 10: all the college football up across the country, it's like 50,
- 1:17:18Speaker 10: 60 million, right? High school football, there's 5,000 people at
- 1:17:23Speaker 10: this stadium, 4,000 people all tonight on a Friday night
- 1:17:26Speaker 10: or last night on a Thursday or tomorrow. In every
- 1:17:29Speaker 10: little locale, every community. I know for us, it's a
- 1:17:31Speaker 10: huge deal. Mariners, if they were in it, that would
- 1:17:34Speaker 10: make sense.
- 1:17:35Speaker 6: They're not.
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: By the way, am I the only person that knows
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: where Merritt, B.C. is? Yes. I've driven through it, but
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: I can only remember it on its freeway sign. And
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: say it with me, Penticton. I can't say it. Is
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: it Penticton? Penticton.
- 1:17:46Speaker 10: What is in Penticton besides that festival? Well, it's right
- 1:17:50Speaker 10: on the lake. It's in the Okanagan. It's right next
- 1:17:51Speaker 10: to it. It's about 30 miles from Kelowna, I believe.
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: It's gorgeous.
- 1:17:54Speaker 10: That's where the Canucks have their training camp. That's where
- 1:17:56Speaker 10: they have their training camp. We used to vacation up
- 1:17:57Speaker 10: there as a family. Yeah, well, I mean, Canadian family.
- 1:18:00Speaker 10: So yeah, we'd go up there.
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: But it was Penticton and the Kelowna and Lake Okanagan
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: and stuff. Unbelievable. You ever heard of Ogopogo? No. I
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: have a sea monster up there in the lake.
- 1:18:09Speaker 6: What?
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: I got a sea monster. That's amazing.
- 1:18:11Speaker 10: Next time you see my son, ask him about, hey,
- 1:18:14Speaker 10: is it true that one time you guys were on a,
- 1:18:16Speaker 10: what do you call those, Ski-Doos or whatever?
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: Yeah, Jet Ski. Yeah, Jet Ski is in the middle
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: of the lake.
- 1:18:21Speaker 10: You were losing your mind because your dad wiped out
- 1:18:24Speaker 10: and you thought the Ogopogo was going to get you.
- 1:18:27Speaker 6: You were like eight, nine.
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: So this is like our own version of Nessie over
- 1:18:31Speaker 5: here in the North America.
- 1:18:33Speaker 10: And if you don't think Ogopogo is real, then we're
- 1:18:35Speaker 10: not going to have this conversation anymore.
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: Sure, it's real.
- 1:18:38Speaker 10: I grew up afraid to swim in that lake. And
- 1:18:40Speaker 10: I love freshwater and saltwater swimming. And I was afraid
- 1:18:43Speaker 10: because that damn Ogopogo was there. That thing is scary
- 1:18:48Speaker 10: and he's still up there somewhere.
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: So, yeah. Ogopogo. Look it up. Google it. You'll have fun.
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: Legends never die.
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: 253 says, Mr.
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: Wallachs was my junior high baseball coach 30 years ago.
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: Great coach and teacher.
- 1:18:57Speaker 10: Because you did Aberdeen-Hokiam tonight, right?
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: Is that what you did? What did you do? Tonight
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: we're doing Archbishop Murphy and Anacortes, three versus one in 2A.
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: Nice.
- 1:19:04Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: But we're trying to spread it around. I know Puyallup-Blake-Stevens
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: is the big game in the state, but we've done Blake-Stevens.
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: Spread it around. I love what you guys are doing.
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: I appreciate that.
- 1:19:11Speaker 10: I absolutely love what you guys are doing. Friday, I
- 1:19:13Speaker 10: think it's Danny O Day, right? Danny O'Neill at 120.
- 1:19:17Speaker 10: Greg Cosell at 1220. Oh, there we go.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: What does the film say? That's all I can tell you. Jess,
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: that's all I can tell you.
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: Ask him what the film says about Jadarian Price and
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: how many touches he should get.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: We're going to get into that. You know, Love didn't
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: have a lot of touches either.
- 1:19:29Speaker 6: No, he didn't.
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: Both Notre Dame running backs are being kept in bubble
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: wrap early on. Tyler Algier had more carries.
- 1:19:33Speaker 10: Yeah, so we'll talk about that with Cosell and preview
- 1:19:36Speaker 10: that game. And then 2 o'clock, Rob Rang will join us,
- 1:19:39Speaker 10: courtesy of Frelli's Pizza, and we'll... Talk about the big
- 1:19:41Speaker 10: college games this weekend and who the players are we're
- 1:19:43Speaker 10: watching for in those. There's one pretty significant game down
- 1:19:46Speaker 10: in Oxford, I do believe. So, yeah, we've got a
- 1:19:47Speaker 10: lot coming up on Football Friday. That's Ian Furness next.
- 1:19:51Speaker 6: 12-3.
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: Greg Bell, Jessamyn McIndoe. Thanks for listening. I'm off to
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: Bellevue High School to do Lyndon Christian Bellevue after Seahawks.
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: I'm going to find out. Nicky Minori's status. They're going
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: to list him as questionable in a little gamesmanship. And
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: then I'm headed tomorrow to Arizona. I'll be broadcasting Monday
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: from Phoenix postgame of the Seahawks and Cardinals, covering that,
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: of course, for the News Tribune as well.
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: Thanks for listening. Ian's up next on 93.3. Have a
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: great weekend, 93.3 KJR.
