- 1:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like why?
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: The world is burning.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_02]: Why?
- 1:07[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe because the world is burning.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_02]: I'm in a good mood.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, you sound like shit.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, sorry about that.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_04]: I know.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_04]: Very inconvenient.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_04]: Just came down with something that's from given by family, of course.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, let's shit.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we got football on the horizon.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be a camp again for the eighth consecutive year.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I'm the curse.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_02]: But I can't be the curse if I haven't been going to camp for twenty five years, right?
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: Is it possible I'm the curse Simon and Chris?
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's we may as well put you down on the list.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, I'm one of the problems.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're a large problem out.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure whether you're the problem, but
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we're going to talk a little bit about the roster going forward.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: They haven't signed a corner back.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't think I'm going to be mentioning that on this show.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_02]: I guess they don't have enough money or the players that they've offered contracts to or looking at it and like, man, really, I got to go play football for this much money.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: Really?
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: Especially Russell Douglas.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: I believe he to take what is rumored out there around two million around near the minimum.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: to take a five million dollar a year haircut is kind of tough.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe they're holding up for for greener pastures, meaning more money, but for somebody that I mean that they you know all jokes aside, they do have to sign somebody because that group is
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: almost insulting and they're all there that like they're all staring at the dolphins like are you gonna give us any money yeah you know and they're all just sitting there all of them it's a bad list as well generally I mean it's you know it's like I'm like Russell Douglas I don't think it's like if you're expecting results no I think he's been a good player actually I think he was excellent in green by I think he played pretty well in Buffalo
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: He was huge for the package in that year, and he had six picks when they signed in mid-season, and he was outstanding.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: But he's still, we know, because we talked about it for years on this show.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: You know, corners do fall off at a certain age and he's at that age.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're expecting a result darkness to come in and be the guy that's going to be the difference maker, the gain changer for you.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a mistake.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's, you know, and it's, and it's just not a good situation.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: And unfortunately, it's not going to get any better, whether that's resolved Douglas or whoever is on that list or something Samuel, but with his injuries with Stefan Gilmob at his age.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: The situation isn't going to get that much better.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a lot of question marks about the safety, three safety, that's I'm so glad that Mink is back, because that does make things a little bit easier.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: But the second rate itself isn't far away from a binfire.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't like what they have on the outside.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: Although I do, and we will get into that on the second half of the show as we do the defense.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: If you look at the safety group, there's stuff to like there.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: But first, I wanted to ask you guys about this.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_02]: The Houston Texans jumped out there with pick thirty four and signed Jayden Higgins to a fully guaranteed deal.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_02]: And then the Cleveland Browns at thirty three said, well, why not?
- 4:32[SPEAKER_02]: And it did the same thing with Carson Swesinger.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_02]: Now we have thirty of the thirty-two teams or thirty of the thirty-two draft picks in the second round, unsigned.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: We are five days, six days away from actual training camp for the Miami Dolphins.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_02]: It actually matters a ton for the Miami Dolphins because that's a starter.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: Jonas of INA is a confirmed starter on this team.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_02]: I guess the only other team that is looking at this situation with, you know, where the side eye is the
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: the New Orleans Saints because maybe they're starting quarterback is on that list in Tyler Chuck.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_02]: What do you make of this?
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: It's unprecedented, but thirty of thirty two.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: Second rompics are unsigned and there seems to be no movement whatsoever.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_02]: And the funny thing is that pick thirty five, which is the pick right after Jason Higgins, is Nick and Manori.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_02]: And his agent is David Magulietta.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I get it.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: So what are your thoughts on this situation, Simon, because it's kind of sequential for my own?
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's consequential for everybody.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's consequential for the league, Chris, isn't it?
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: Because, you know, you look forward to what's going to happen.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: Teams know pretty well that if they, if they bend any here and sign everybody's guaranteed contracts and that's what it's going to be.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: For ever more, there's, there's, you know, you take the step to sign everybody to, to fulfil their contracts fully, then, you know, next year and the year after, and the year after, agents, players, et cetera, et cetera, going to be like, whoa, whoa, you know, last year's, thirty-third, forty-third, fifty-second bit.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: They got there at eleven point five million, and they got all of it, so, you know, I'm not taking, you know, six point two million, and then everything else in incentive, that's not what I work, shit, for you, the payment what you paid me last year, plus the incremental add-on that happens every year, or we're not doing a deal.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's the situation that they're going to find themselves in.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: And it's been a weird year and you look at it, I see it's saw the jar day barren sign today and you hope that Shima asked you it can get signed or, you know, his option is to re-enter the draft next year.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that is an option available to me.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: It can't be called his football, but he can re-enter the draft.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: But the guys are in the second round.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's a bit more of a gray area, but I think that you can't enter training camp with two players signed and everybody else still waiting to get in there and for the dolphins, as we say, you know, seven eye and not being there.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: It is huge because it's huge because the line, I think with everything that we need to do, I still think Chris, the line is taking a step back when you add everything in, you look at the trial and answer retirement, replacing a patch of ball.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: But we're also looking at situation now where
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: God help us, Liam Ikenberg is because he's not a left-guard, Chris.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: If seven-eyed doesn't start, I was reading Barry Jackson the seedling and James Daniels was saying that he's working every day with seven-eyed on text and on WhatsApp and then messaging each other and he's talking, you know, seven-eyed is practically asking loads of questions about the offense and plays and all this sorts of things.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: And that's great.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing beats live bullets, Chris, and this kid ain't getting them.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think I'm sort of
- 7:33[SPEAKER_04]: of all the people that, you know, sometimes especially alpha and I don't think you like him that much.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_04]: Mike Florio had the right right read on this situation.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_04]: It all boils down to leverage and, you know, which side stands together and I don't think that there was much planning as it pertains to this
- 7:54[SPEAKER_04]: You know, the players in the second round, the agents, you know, colluding with one another, trying to stand together.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if there was a lot of planning behind this or if it just kind of came about and if it just kind of came about.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_04]: then they're likely to player by player just kind of cave because this means more to them personally than it does for the NFL teams.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_04]: As much as we want to place a lot of importance on, you need, you need generous of idea to get in there and things like that.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_04]: Ultimately, the teams are good at standing together, you know, hours late when it comes to collusion and things like that.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_04]: They show a year and year and
- 8:37[SPEAKER_04]: year again.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, they're just always they're always able to collude even though they're very competitive with more and other.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't I don't know that the league is going to that the teams are going to lose this bat.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_04]: I think if it makes any sense though that perhaps the the league may win the battle.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_04]: But then they may kind of lose the war.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_04]: I think they might be fighting a losing battle overall and trying to make their stand at these guarantees and the for in the second round picks.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_04]: When you're competing now with increasingly with.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_04]: college football and the NL landscape, you're now competing over players with one another.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_04]: And there are players that won't go to the NFL, they'll stay in college as long as they possibly can because they because they get paid better, they have better prospects or something like that.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_04]: So I think that that is such a big sea change that eventually the NFL is going to lose the work here.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_04]: on the second round picks and the guaranteed contracts.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_04]: But this particular battle, I don't see the players have a chance.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this is going to come a day, right?
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's probably next Tuesday, next Wednesday when, you know, they look at their bank accounts and they're like, we have no money yet.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_02]: And this is what I, you know, this is what I set out to do five years ago when I entered college.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_02]: And now I'm drafted.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I have a team.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't have a contract, and I'm not on the field.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm wondering who is going to get, cave, cause whoever caves first.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: That agent's going to have a mark, isn't it?
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: Are they going to have to collude together to all cave together?
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: Is that going to be what they're going to have to do?
- 10:21[SPEAKER_02]: Because if you're an agent, you're going to look bad if your guy signs a substandard deal compared to what's slashing or or Higgins got.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so it's, it's a game of chicken right now between the owners and the players for the second round.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_02]: But for Miami, it's,
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of important.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_02]: Really important.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: Like you want to, you want this kid in there working with the offensive line working where they are on brewer and James Daniels on the inside because it's consequential especially for this offense.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: So hopefully I'll get something done by next week.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully we'll have a corner back by next week.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_02]: We've been saying that for, I think, fourteen weeks.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, let's review this, this frost.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to do the offense here on the first half of the show.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_02]: We'll do the defense on the second half of the show.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: Cordbacks to a tongue of Aloha and that's pretty much where it ends as far as any confidence and there's not a lot of confidence there either because he has an injury history that's well documented.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_02]: Zach Wilson, Quinniers, Brett Gabbert, whoever the hell that is.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_02]: Simon, your thoughts on this group, what do you want to see?
- 11:31[SPEAKER_02]: Is there anything that Zach Wilson can do to change your mind this preseason?
- 11:34[SPEAKER_02]: Because ideally, we never want to see these kids play.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: We don't want to see Zach Wilson play, and we don't want to see when yours play a single down.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: So, is there anything they can do in preseason to change your mind or change our minds?
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: Because I think we're all in lockstep here.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't think so.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: Look, I think that, you know, can you argue there's not thirty two good quarterbacks in the league that, yes, probably, you know, so you're trying to get the best of a, you know, of the second and thirty, it's like going to a, you know, to buy a car and all you've got is the kind of the, the toy owners or whatever or another
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: average car company rather than the Porsche or the Ferrari or whatever.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: The biggest, the single biggest thing about this season for the Miami Dolphins.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: And look, Shocara, I don't think it's going to be a particularly good season for dolphins, but the biggest single factor in us being able to at least be competitive is the health of the quarterback.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: Can you stay healthy?
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's the single biggest question that almost of, you know, of any team set in the air sea, and maybe in the entire league, I'm not sure there's a bigger question, but you see Lewis Ridic the other day talking about how, you know, got no idea what the dolphins are going to be this season.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that is a smart play because I don't think any of us really have an idea.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think the team has got better.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's probably got worse in a number of areas, actually.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: The areas that we probably need to fix, I don't think we've necessarily fixed, but it's got to be about the callback's health and the ramifications of that health are so enormous moving forward.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: If he can stay healthy, then obviously that's a great deal and the dolphins might push for the outskirts of the playoffs.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: If he gets injured,
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: Not only is the season null and void, essentially, there is the long-term effects of the coach and the general manager, but then there is also the long-term story about the quarterback himself, because if he once again cannot stay healthy for another season, there has got to be Chris a runway to be like, look, we've got to move on, we've got to draft a kid and from where we stand now, there are some pretty tasty looking quarterback's entering the next two years drafts.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_01]: If the kid can't be healthy as much as we all like him, if he isn't healthy, then there are just so many huge questions that face this team moving forwards.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then in the background, as we all enjoyed having a joke about yesterday, but we think it's probably real.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: Is the Paul Feinbaum comments about, well,
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: makes save and might be looking to get back into the NFL and wouldn't it be funny he's just moved to Florida and you know the world comes full circle and the greatest coaching college football history comes back to the the one club that's essentially haunted him because he couldn't finish the business he started I mean the irony there shouldn't be loss on all of us so there are some huge huge things that could happen
- 14:17[SPEAKER_02]: I have a great parallel for this.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_02]: Dolphins higher next Saben.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: Next Saben gets rid of Drew Breeze.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, get rid of, to a tongue of Aloha.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_02]: To a tongue of Aloha turns into Drew Breeze somewhere else.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: Probably New Orleans.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_02]: Next Saben gets fired.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: And we do it all over again.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: To a tango baller goes to the Hall of Fame wins one super ball with New Orleans.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I just, I mean, we all think he's got talent.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: We all know he's got talent.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: We all love watching him play and yeah, there's some frustrations, et cetera, et cetera.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: So we've been there.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: We've done it, right?
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: But the health increase has got, he's just got a proven.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's not just one.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a proved multiple seasons that he can be healthy, can't miss games, he can't get con cash, he can't.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a big ask when you play a game where, you know, guys that can run a hundred meters a second slower than no allows can run and, you know, weighing two hundred and sixty two hundred and eighty three hundred pounds can run into and knock you into the middle of next week.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's not an easy thing to do, playing the position you play.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: So, but the ramifications for this team, this franchise, as we know it, are so enormous.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: It gets injured in week three and that's the most six games or whatever.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even object to think about the, you know, what could happen Chris?
- 15:33[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's such an overarching concern over everything that they do.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_04]: It goes right down into, um, and we've mentioned that we talked about this several times or at least I have talked about it several times in the overall salary cap strategy from the offseason.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_04]: because I think that if you want to point to a single thing that would make you wonder why they would take such a conservative approach to the offseason, a conservative approach to their salary cap to where they are underspending on a cash basis, they are underspending the salary cap, which is, in fact, kind of reducing their overall cap debt.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_04]: You know, what I call cap debt, which is how much you borrowed against future
- 16:19[SPEAKER_04]: future salary caps.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_04]: You know they're they're reducing and they're delivering and the amount that they're delivering you could pretty much just point straight to the amount of incrementally sunk.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_04]: money that they gave to a ton of my law that they wouldn't have necessarily had to have given them if they'd say take in the advice of some people and let them play out the fifth year guarantee and maybe franchise him the following year.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_04]: All both of which would have been both salaries of which would have been far, far and away cheaper than what the dolphins ended up guaranteeing to them by giving him that extension.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_04]: And so what you have to come to grips with is the fact that heading into this season, the risk profile to a ton of dialogue looks a lot worse than it did heading into last season.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_04]: Last season he was fresh off of a year where he played eighteen games.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_04]: He had modified his game.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_04]: He had modified the way that he does things.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_04]: He had gained some weight and
- 17:31[SPEAKER_04]: He made through a whole year without any of the concussion issues resurfacing.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_04]: So everything that happened in that very ugly, in twenty-two season could be kind of
- 17:45[SPEAKER_04]: You know, put a box around it, you know, kind of siloed into that season.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you know, that was just twenty two.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_04]: That was, that was that problem.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_04]: And, and God knows, we're way past the hip issues too.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, that's, so that was all in the past.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_04]: And now you step into this year is like, no, the concussions came back and you know what else came back, the hip came back to.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_04]: And so this is the situation going forward with him.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_04]: I think that they needed to lighten up on that salary cap situation because they made an oopsie.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_04]: And so I think that that's the look of it going forward.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_04]: This season is very much going to be not so much about, hey, we think we're winning a super bowl this year.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_04]: And we have managed our team and our roster accordingly.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_04]: But really, more or less, hey, we're delivering and if to a tongue of dialogue, if you are the quarterback for us going forward, you're going to prove it to us this year.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_04]: And also Mike McDaniel, if you are the head coach for us going forward, you're going to prove it to us this year.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_04]: And we're not going to have you do that under the best of conditions because I'm not sure what I'd actually find out about you if I managed to arrange all of the best and luckiest conditions.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_04]: So we're going to find out this year.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_04]: This year is all about finding out if we have a quarterback in a head coach.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_04]: And unfortunately, you know, based on what's happened with Tua, I have, I have even less confidence in the quarterback than I do the head coach.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm not exactly brimming with that confidence on the head coach even.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_01]: We question for both of you then.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: If he gets hurt, let's say, let's say he gets a concussion.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: And the decision is made.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: He wants to keep playing and not retire.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: But let's say he misses five weeks for the concussion.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think the decision is going to be?
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: Because this is the question everybody's asking.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: People asking me, people asking me, and only friends, people are DMME on Twitter.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: If two of you gets hurt, what do you think the dolphins will do?
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: What's your take on?
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say get fingered.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: Week seven, Mrs. Five Games, has a concussion.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: There's a national media thing as we would expect there to be.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: What's your take?
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think the dolphins move on?
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: Or do you think they persevere?
- 20:09[SPEAKER_02]: Well I think regardless of what happens this season even if he played seventeen games I would have a night or the future and I would be drafting a quarterback high next year to because yeah it could be great for twenty twenty five but what about twenty twenty six and he kind of comes off the books in twenty twenty six
- 20:28[SPEAKER_02]: So what I would do if he wants to play one more season, I can't think of any way that his draft, I mean his trade value would be anywhere.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: I guess I just have to write that one season with
- 20:44[SPEAKER_02]: My rookie quarterback in tow that I take in the first round in the twenty twenty six draft.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I guess you just right out that one year and then you have your replacement on the roster ready for the twenty twenty seven season Chris.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think that's a fair fair point to bring up.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_04]: It could
- 21:05[SPEAKER_04]: It could be that the real choice here is are we looking at a situation where they move on from to a tongue of Iowa in two years or a situation where they move on from to a tongue of Iowa next year.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_04]: In the scenario you laid out Simon, and if he gets hurt, and he misses five games with another concussion, then they are parting ways next season.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_04]: There's no doubt my mind whatsoever.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_04]: So I think that that is something
- 21:35[SPEAKER_04]: Obviously, we have to keep an eye on.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_04]: But really, even in the case where he does all right this year, where he doesn't suffer another concussion or maybe he manages to hide another one, he certainly seems to have tried in the past.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_04]: If even if they get through the year,
- 21:58[SPEAKER_04]: It could be a situation that else just outlined, essentially they're still gonna draft a guy.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_04]: And maybe a year after that after that they'll have decided, did we make a mistake in who we drafted?
- 22:13[SPEAKER_04]: Which is very possible.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, clearly the San Francisco Forty Niners had to come to that, had to come quickly to that conclusion with a tray.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_04]: What was this last time we got?
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: Lance.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_04]: Lance.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, that could be the case, but Miami would be probably drafting somebody's significant and then taking another year because to had bought himself another year.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_04]: But really, if what Simon, you know, positive came true this season, then I don't see to a tongue of Illow being a Miami dolphin in twenty twenty six at all.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_02]: All right, move on on and we could run through a lot of these pretty quickly.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: The running-back group, Devon H and Jalen Wright, Alexander Madison, Ali Gordon, Noel Nate, whoever that is.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_02]: And now like Engel, I like this group.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_02]: I really like this group.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: Nate Noel?
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: No, Nate.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever the hell his name is.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_02]: I like this group and you know, I'm not a big fan of Alexander Madison.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_02]: I think I think Gordon could be something.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of like them as a as a prospect.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I love Jalen right last year.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think he got enough of an opportunity.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was more of a brain thing with him.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_02]: He had issues picking up the game plan.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_02]: picking up the offense you could see it as he was being redirected on the field constantly by either the quarterback or players on the field with him so I kind of like this group and I think this group could be really really productive your thoughts Simon
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I like a channel, but I think he's misused and I don't think they can run in the way that he did last year and I think we saw that because he's just as effective as his big play and this, that's not even a word, but you know, went down massively because of the way that they were trying to use.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it needs to go back to how they use them as a rookie and that is obviously dependent on Jayden Wright, whether or not he can step up.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm intrigued by a good and I thought he was wonderful when at the year he won the The Doke Walker two years ago.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he played not particularly well last year and when I was doing the draft stuff I went back and it wasn't because teams weren't loading boxes.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was just an inability to do the things that he'd done the year before now which year was the year that you could say actually, you know, twenty twenty three was a fluke or twenty three four was a fluke, you know, which Hollywood is going to show up because if it's the Hollywood and the one that don't walker,
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: He could be a real, you know, he could be a player.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not a Madison fan necessarily.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: Nate Noel is just a guy.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot depends on Gordon and Jaylem Wright.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: If they can become this kind of three headed beast, and Madison does the kind of short yard his stuff, which he's had a reputation for him in a so then I think they could be alright.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: But it's a lot of kind of up in the air stuff, Chris for me.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the this group looks like to me actually.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_04]: I you only have the five half backs in there.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_04]: And, and then one full back in Alec and gold.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_04]: This looks like to me, especially with Nate and all, you know, being, I mean, I guess literally a lightweight, I mean, he's not the biggest kind of running back.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_04]: and from what I recall, it was playing style.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_04]: He was kind of five eight one night before.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he's like he was one of those small, you know, kind of, daughters, you know, and in the mold of defying HM.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that they're missing, I think that they're missing something there.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_04]: Now that said, I like the top, the top two.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_04]: Devon H. and J.L.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_04]: and Wright.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_04]: I do agree with you that Devon H. and it's not maybe not meant to be used in some of the ways that he was a year ago, but I also think that he is still a good player.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_04]: He is, I think he's right there, among the starters in the league right now, I think that top, you know, ten to fifteen as we've kind of, you know, dandered back and forth.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_04]: With respect to the Jeremy foul or survey rankings.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's about right for him.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_04]: So this is an asset.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_04]: He's a good player.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_04]: He catches the ball well.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_04]: He's a home run header.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_04]: uh... and then jail and right is a guy that it listen if if he has his playbook and he has the whole process down of being a professional and getting in and out of the huddle and getting on and off the field uh... when his personnel group rings are called and and knowing the play and knowing exactly what he said if he is on top of it then he has explosive potential explosive upward uh... upside potential
- 26:48[SPEAKER_04]: as a player and so it's easy to kind of forgive well you know did we love Alex Madison well I guess we didn't love Alex Madison do I love Ali Gordon yeah I do actually but Nate know all you know are we thrilled about him
- 27:03[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's easy to forgive that when you I think you have a good one to punch with the and divide a channel in jail and right.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_04]: So, um, and jail and right is actually one of the guys that I would say keep an eye on before this season because, uh, you know, about being next year considered far better than he is this year, um, breakout player type thing.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_04]: And that's just because of the history of this offense.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_04]: This offense hasn't history.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_04]: You know, going back to, uh, to the shanahan and, um,
- 27:33[SPEAKER_04]: And all the way back to his father and everything, this offense produces guys who came from nowhere as a running back.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_04]: And then suddenly there were fifteen hundred yard backs.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_04]: You know, that's, that's just the way it is.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_04]: So if Devon, A Chan, if that's not working now, because he's just not versatile enough in what he brings to the table, look out.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_04]: You know, Jalen Wright has that potential to just totally supplant him.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_04]: And that's something to watch for this year.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_02]: All right, moving on to the tight ends, Darren Waller.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_02]: He signed essentially kind of a minimum deal and can make up to five million dollars.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_02]: This coming season, Farrell Brown, Julian Hill.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_02]: Ten of Connor is back for year fifteen.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my God, still counting about ten of Connor, which is impressive.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's impressive.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: Fifteen year career in the NFL.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_02]: all on the practice squad is impressive, no matter how you slice it.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_02]: Jalen Connyer's head and Ruchi is interesting in it of itself because he can also play fullback and we know what he can do on the field which is just mash people especially in line.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_02]: So your thoughts on this group salmon.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's one of the worst groups I've ever seen.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what I like.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's like bitter is, that's be realistic.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a good group.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: We're naming players that
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know, last year we were all of us were advocating Judy and he'll get cut.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: All of us suddenly is like the savior of this group.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like we've been talking about Santa Connor for, you know.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm not even, I do not let me revive you of what you said about Santa Connor last year when you were like, this guy, this guy, and I was like, this guy's never caught a fucking pass.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: You never caught a pass.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: Farrow Brown is only interesting because of his name, like, you know, I know he can block, but he's no more teams than I don't know what dinners.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: Waller, you know, I think he's excitingly intriguingly
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: drastically terrible as a move and you know this is a guy that retired you know concussions injuries didn't want to play the game um wanted to be a hip-hop star realized he was the worst hip-hop star in history uh as now come back to the game he's like what is he thirty three I mean he's been out the game for
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, what were we doing?
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like we did this for just a minute.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: Can we be serious?
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: The one that gives me hope is Jalen Corniers, because I loved him at Texas Tech.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: I genuinely thought he had legitimate talent.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: to be a real NFL player.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's really well-sized, he's six four, he's two, sixty.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's four, he was four, seventy four, but I just thought he was a good player.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: I was surprised he didn't get drafted.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll have to see what happens with him.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, the rest of the guys, it's just a hard note for me.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm really sorry, and I hate saying that, but it's just a bunch of guys.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_04]: I think this is going to be, this tight end roster is going to be, you're not as like one of the least productive probably, if it's from a passing game standpoint, in quite a while, you know, going back to, you have a top, you have the wife position with starting with fairer Brown and Julian Hill and hate and roots keep behind them.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_04]: And that's just like straight up,
- 30:55[SPEAKER_04]: Like this is hunter good one stuff, you know, as far as what they are.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_04]: Farrow Brown can only really be used.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_04]: He's not even all that versatile as a blocker.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_04]: He's he's particularly good.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_04]: Within a certain structure of what you ask him to do and
- 31:15[SPEAKER_04]: Well, what struck me about that about Miami's choosing him is that it wasn't the way that Miami used their tight ends last year.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_04]: The Miami uses their tight ends.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_04]: They moved them around a lot.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_04]: They moved them around pre-snap.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_04]: They moved them around into
- 31:30[SPEAKER_04]: and have them shift into different angles and different positions and execute these, you know, kind of reverses and things like that.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, they have them on their feet and they have them moving around a lot.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_04]: And Pharaoh Brown was kind of just a Y, a Y blocker.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_04]: Why?
- 31:49[SPEAKER_04]: And then so, you know, it's kind of curious.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_04]: And so those that was Julian Hill, they were really going to count on him.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_04]: Um, some one because one of those two guys, if not hating reaching, I guess, but one of those two guys is going to take like the majority of snacks because Darren Walters only going to come in for twelve person else situations when you have, um, you know, either twelve person out, which the probably not going to use like at all.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_04]: or much at all, or if they get into an absolute, you know, extreme passing situation where they're basically got four wide receivers on the field, and which case, you know, the defense is probably in dime.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_04]: You know, so he's not going to get much play.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_04]: So it's really going to be fair or brown or jewelry and hill and boys, that is a sad testament.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_01]: Who's a question?
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: Who's a question for you?
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: If they are Hayden Roochie and Bump Cooper, if a Bump Cooper covers a Hayden Roochie and training camp and they fall over in the forest, do they make a sound?
- 32:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think Hayden Roochie does.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: What's the sound?
- 33:00[SPEAKER_02]: Bump.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_01]: That is the tight end sound.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: Dude's like two hundred and seventy five pounds.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_02]: Don't make you make a sound.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_02]: Don't make it.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_02]: Really quick.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_02]: We'll take off.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_02]: We'll take up the offensive line on the second half of the show.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_02]: Let's just finish up here with the with the wide receivers.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think we have much else to say about the tight ends.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: Still a water tie we kill.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_02]: Erica's with comma.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_02]: Whoever that is, remember him?
- 33:24[SPEAKER_02]: Nick Westbrook, Akine, Malik Washington, Taj Washington, DS, Ridge, Monterey, Baldwin, AJ Henning, Theo Wies, interesting, Andrew Armstrong, kind of interesting to re-black.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_02]: You're thought Simon on this group, I believe this is one group you can't point to and say that it's improved.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: I love this group.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: This is the best group on the roster.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: I love the two free agents, theories, and Andrew Armstrong.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: I heal water.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, Tars Washington getting back a great Malique with X and last year, and I really like Nick Westbrookicina.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is a really solid group.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: And if Westbrookicina can play up,
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: Malik can play a train on if Taj and one of those rookie free agents can kind of push I think that this could be one of the better groups in the league.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: It is a terrific group.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: The top two have got to stay healthy Chris.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, this is, I fully agree with you.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_04]: This is probably the best group on the roster.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_04]: And it's both full and has a lot of depth.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_04]: It's good at the top.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_04]: It's still Tyree Hill and Jalen Wattles.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_04]: So what you want about off years last year or whatever.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_04]: But Tyree Hill just got ranked by those surveyed executives, coaches, and scouts.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_04]: It's still the third best wide receiver in the NFL.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_04]: and Jalen Wattel is clearly up there amongst the top, you know, wider seers as far as the top, thirty-two, say something like that, or twenty, twenty-five, and that range.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_04]: This is a good group.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_04]: Nick Westbroker Keene, we loved when he signed him.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_04]: And when they signed him, he is, you know, big fan of that player.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_04]: I think Malik Washington showed a lot last year as a blocker and, you know, kind of the toughness and
- 35:10[SPEAKER_04]: attitude that he brings so you're gonna want to see a little bit more from him out in the passing game I think but but I think that
- 35:18[SPEAKER_04]: He has that potential, and then you mentioned Andrew Armstrong, D.O.E.S., those guys can play.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_04]: Those guys can play well, and then Monterey Baldwin is lightning fast, just absolute lightning fast.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_04]: So this is a full group.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_04]: This is a versatile group.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_04]: This is a great elite caliber talent up at the top of it.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's, it's the only place that you can really just look at the roster and be like, you know, I can't, I can't, I can't come up with any complaints here.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, we're going to go to break here, but before we do, let me tell you about factor.

- 37:09[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Jalen Phillips, and you're listening to three yards per carry.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_02]: And we are back.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's take up the softments of line.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: Let's do the tackles first.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_02]: Patrick Paul Kiam Smith is returning, and he's carrying a pretty big burden, the Kendall Lamb burden.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_02]: Right tackle, Austin Jackson returns for another year at Larry Borham.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_02]: Brayton Daniels, Ryan Hayes returns, and listed in the depth chart as a backup left tackle, which is what he played at Michigan for a thousand years.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_02]: So naturally we had to play on my right tackle an entire preseason, which makes no sense to me.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_02]: Teddy Kushy, whoever that is, and Bayron Matos.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_02]: who returns Brazilian, he's on that exemption.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_02]: Your thoughts on the tackles, and we should run through the offensive line pretty quickly here, Simon.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it's not a very good group.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not a very good group.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: Start a wise.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Austin Jackson's a particular player.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's played to the level of his contracts.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: He had to one year where he was
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: Decent enough, I didn't think he was very good last year and over injured a lot, but he still wasn't particularly good.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think he was particularly good.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_01]: The back end of the previous season, there's so much work that Patrick Paul has to do.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_01]: And he's going to get protected by the scheme, but yeah, I mean, I just, I never saw it in college.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_01]: I never saw it when he was drafted.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: And I worry about it.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: Gilles Smith is a solid player, can he say, healthy, the rest are just guys.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: I just, it's not a great group.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: And the concern is if the Jacksonville pool gets hurt, that, you know,
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, do you really want Larry Borham at Tech Army?
- 38:47[SPEAKER_01]: If we sit, did you see Larry Borham playing tackle?
- 38:50[SPEAKER_01]: My god.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's not good.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: It is ugly.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, with a very daniel Jackson Carman, I mean, Bayram Matos has got every physical trait, but Chris, I'd be... I'm worried, man.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, this offense tackle group is, so the offense of tackles in this scheme are helped quite a bit, not just by to his own tendencies.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_04]: As a quarterback, you're getting them all out quickly, his ability to work the pocket and step up, you know, things like that.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_04]: Some of these things are he doesn't take back to very many other quarterbacks in the entire NFL.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_04]: when it comes to that stuff.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_04]: The offense itself is a very quick bang bang offense.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_04]: Get the ball out quickly.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_04]: So that helps the tackles.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_04]: The tight ends in this offense help the tackles comfortably.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_04]: The backs and full back help the tight or help the tackles constantly.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_04]: So this group looking at it, it's like, well, you've set up
- 39:55[SPEAKER_04]: You know, your offensive tackles is one of your weakest groups.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I guess that makes sense schematically, right?
- 40:01[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, they they help out those offensive tackles a lot.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_04]: It's just that this group is not surprising anybody.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_04]: You know, don't expect the pairing of Patrick Paul and Austin Jackson to surprise you as far as how good a pair of starting tackles of that they are.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_04]: Don't expect if one of them goes down injured and often Jackson seems to do that every other year.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_04]: Don't expect
- 40:25[SPEAKER_04]: that, you know, the guys that step into their place, you know, maybe outside of, you know, you know, I've got like a little bit of a thing for what Keyon Smith shows, particularly in the run game.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_04]: But overall, don't expect Larry Board, Keyon Smith, Jackson, Carmen Ryan, Hayes, you know, Teddy Cushie, Baramados, to actually show you great things here.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_04]: It's just, it's not a group that's going to surprise you.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_04]: But luckily, schematically speaking, they're the group that we asked very little of.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Brandon Daniels and Ken Smith against, I guess are going for one spot as that swing tackle guy.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_02]: Moving on to the interior.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_02]: James Daniels, Jonas of Ina, not under contract.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: Liam Mike and Berg are old friend.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_02]: Jackson Carmen somehow made it onto the team and now he's a convert to to guard.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_02]: Josh Prebie, I think that the guards, past the top two guys, are easily and comfortably the worst group on the entire team and I am counting the cornerbacks in there.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_02]: Adding the centers, Aaron Broer, I really like Andrew Meyer who showed some promise and Addison West.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_02]: I really believe this the more I look at it past the top two guys this is a position.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_02]: I think that they got to be scouring the the waiver wire as guys get cut who knows maybe an expensive guy gets cut because some team realizes you know what we don't want a three million dollar a year
- 41:54[SPEAKER_02]: third guard so maybe we'll cut this guy and maybe they could pick something up before the season starts because past the top two guys I think this is comfortably the worst group on the entire team and I am counting the cornerbacks your thoughts on the guards Simon yeah look I think it's really funny we talked about the top of the show right the the quarterback the health of the quarterback is the single predominating factor is team for twenty twenty five twenty twenty six right
- 42:20[SPEAKER_01]: You've got one job if you're crispy, and that is to do everything in your power.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, it's not easy when you got Mars Garrett and you've got, you know, TJ Watt and Roshan Garrett and all these guys coming out of you, right?
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's not easy.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: But the one thing you have to do is completely fix that offensive line.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to show it up.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to do as best you possibly can that your quarterback is not getting knocked over.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: He's not getting knocked on his ass.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: He's not getting cast.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: He's not breaking the hand.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: All of these things, right?
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: And yet the answer to that is an offensive line that very quickly could have Larry Borham at left tackle, Liam Ikenberg at left guard, you know, Andrew Meyer at Center, Austin Jackson and some other fucking answer at the other guard.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's a really bad group.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_01]: And the amount of reliance that we're having to put on a rookie in during a seven hour, who's never played a single snap in the NFL,
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: There's a starship, I feel for the poor kids.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: He's paid tackle, he's paid guard.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_01]: He's obviously really well put together and should be an excellent guy.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_01]: But my God, if he's not good, then this team is, we're asking him to come in and hit the runway week while against Indianapolis.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and the cults have got a good team, they've got excellent interior defensive linemen, and you're asking them to come in when he's not had training.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I had a mini camp.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: You'll probably miss to start a training camp.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, this is not a good group at all.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I think it's worse than it was last year.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're in a worse situation.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: And Chris, I fear for offensive linemen get injured all the time.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I fear for this group if players start to go down because by God, the back-ups are really, really poor.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_04]: I think I fear for the way this is going to play out early in the season because of everything that you mentioned about Jonah Savanaya being a rookie, being young, taking some time, I think that he's going to have to play his way into knowing the offense well and knowing the offense blind techniques that they're teaching him really well now.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_04]: That said, I think he's the right player.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's a very good player.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_04]: I love the draft pick.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_04]: I think that he has a right future and he will end up getting to the right spot at the finish line, you know, and but it's just, it's just, what does it look like early on?
- 44:36[SPEAKER_04]: You know, given that for all that, we would love Robert Hunt.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_04]: You know, that first year, I guess he was playing a little bit more right tackle, but
- 44:46[SPEAKER_04]: You know, he didn't Robert Hunt didn't look like Robert Hunt for probably until it's third, fourth year.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_04]: You know, so that's just a reality that you have to prepare yourselves for.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_04]: James Daniel's same thing, like I have faith in him getting to the finish line.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_04]: But how's it going to look early coming off that Achilles injury last year?
- 45:09[SPEAKER_04]: I, you know, I don't know.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_04]: So your point is well taken Simon that you could be looking at, you know,
- 45:16[SPEAKER_04]: a tackle tandem of Austin Jackson who gets injured a lot and you know we could argue about whether he's a you know a top a top half the league type of our top ten type of right tackle I don't believe he is and Patrick Paul the guy that we hated in the draft and who you know probably play a little bit better than we'd have expected him play last year but still not good
- 45:41[SPEAKER_04]: by any stretch of the imagination.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_04]: And then you're looking at the rookie genre and then James Daniels who doesn't come in on and told kind of middle of the year playing his way back into shape and health and everything like that.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_04]: Like this could look pretty ugly early on in the season.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_04]: And so if you don't have the commitment to the ground game, if that's not somehow the earliest thing that is working,
- 46:10[SPEAKER_04]: For this offense aligned, then we've got real potential for disappointments.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they did have the job.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_02]: They used free agent dollars and a high draft pick.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_02]: They needed to use two draft picks and more free agent dollars.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_02]: Namely, to back up these guys because they have absolutely nothing past their top five.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like you could talk yourself into the top five.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_02]: They have nothing past the top five.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_01]: We all like James Daniels, right?
- 46:37[SPEAKER_01]: But let's not kid ourselves.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's coming off a serious serious injury.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: Probably the worst injury you can have as an offensive lineman.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: like a torn Achilles.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: And he's the one guy.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: So you're expecting a guy that's coming off a torn Achilles and a rookie who's never played a snap in the NFL to be the saviors of the interior offensive line.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: That has got recipe for disaster written all over it.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the flip side to that is that Robert Jones Lee and Mike and Brooke were manning those positions last year.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but that's not anything to, you know, if Martin had bullshit been my uncle kind of deal, do you know what I mean?
- 47:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's like that's what we accept and acknowledge that that was about as bad as it could ever be.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_01]: And yet, yes, on paper, it looks better.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: But let's strip away the paper a little bit and we realize that Daniel's is coming off a tour in Achilles and seven eyes never played a snap in the NFL.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: So it could go tits up fairly quickly.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_04]: And it can always get worse.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that might not even be the worst of it because the tackles, the right can't say healthy and the guy on the left isn't very good.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, look, I hate to continue to be the provider of doom, but it's not a good group, it's not.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_02]: TBD on Patrick Paul is what he said.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_04]: There's room for him to get better and actually be a good player.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_04]: I think in particular, if you're going to look at the glass half full on this offensive line, I'm particularly interested in that left side featuring Patrick Paul and Jonas of INF.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_04]: If that is indeed where he plays and I think that's kind of borderline confirmed now that that's what they're going to have him do.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_04]: I'm intrigued by those two together because it presents a very different thing from what you have on the right side with James Daniels and Austin Jackson with Aaron Burr, the mobility that he has kind of in the swing in the middle.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_04]: There's potential to take advantage of that schematically and from a play calling standpoint and the way that you game plan individually for games.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_04]: So there's potential, I think, for a whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_04]: with this offensive line, particularly in the style that they play.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_04]: So there is that potential, it is there.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, right now on paper, this group, I don't agree with the people that think that we've upgraded the offensive line.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_04]: I think this offensive line is, the starters are basically the same level as last year, the risks are the same as last year and less steps.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_04]: And that's the way I see it on paper.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, moving on to the interior defensive line, they completely remade the entire group and they have a couple of rookies that I really really do like.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_02]: Kenneth Grant, Benito Jones, Zach Seeler, the headliners, Jordan Phobes, the press Benito Jones, Matthew Butler, Benstilly, remember him?
- 49:36[SPEAKER_02]: Zigg figures, Alex Huntley, Matt Dickerson.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_02]: I can talk myself into this group.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_02]: I really like the two rookies.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_02]: Kenneth Grant, Jordan Phillips, Zigg figures.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't know.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_02]: uh, late draft pick.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, some good tape play really, really well against a universe in Miami last year.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, Windows X either what we know what X either can do.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_02]: I would expect Jordan folks to supplant Benito Jones as that zero by midseason.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of like this group, especially if Kenneth Grant is who I think he is.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, your thoughts Simon.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, sealers are stud.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_01]: I like the young players.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think Philips, like I said, draft time.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_01]: I love his upside.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's twenty years old.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's going to take a long time for him to, I think to, to drown into, into real shape.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_01]: Biggie.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_02]: But wait, let's, he's interrupted you.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_02]: The rare rookie that's going to come in as the wait room champ.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_02]: And that's confirmed, by the way.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to be the top guy in the squat room.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think there's an awful lot of pressure on those rookies, but I think if the three of them can play and I think they all can then I think there's some hope here for this group.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, Jones, we talked about last year's kind of bottom of the roster kind of guy.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_01]: The three rookies hopefully can be the future and alongside see that they can provide some, you know, four, five hundred snap seats and we're actually winning.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_04]: It'd be the glass half empty kind of person on this group, but there's a lot of risks here because when you get right down to it, understanding that when you take a rookie, you certainly hope it goes one way.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_04]: But history and reality kind of tells you that there's a there's a large chance it's going to go the other way, especially in the first year.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_04]: I loved Kenneth Grant coming out of the draft.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_04]: You won't find very many bigger fans of Kenneth Grant that I was.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_04]: But he is a rookie and you don't know what he's going to prevent or present to you.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_04]: And so that means you're four for them.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_04]: rotation, and this is a position that has four man rotation, and they all play about equally, you know, and this scheme, the way that they do their rotations is actually there will get a few more snaps than everybody else.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, between Zach Sealer, Kenneth Grant Jordan Phillips and Benito Jones, that's your four man rotation, and I'm sorry, but three of those really concern me, because despite my being a fan of Kenneth Grant, I have to objectively pull myself out and say,
- 52:02[SPEAKER_04]: rookie.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_04]: So, so three of your four band rotation at a very important position are all quite questionable because Benito Jones was part of that four-man rotation last year and he was the guy that you should have been upgrading, right?
- 52:18[SPEAKER_04]: So they didn't do that.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_04]: They stuck him back in there and instead what they've they've done is give you a rookie to kind of grant
- 52:25[SPEAKER_04]: another rookie this time a twenty year old who looks raw on tape as Simon has pointed out like a bright future again on Jordan Phillips but still like what is he right now this is your form and rotation
- 52:39[SPEAKER_04]: That is a concern to me.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_04]: That is, that has the ability to already be self and then go way self when the thirty-year-old, you know, veteran, saxyler misses some games as veterans of his age tend to do.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_04]: You know, so I think that I think that this, this is a group that's really going to be, you know, concerning as we go on.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, the edge group, Jalen Phillips returns.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_02]: Chop Robinson after a good rookie season Bradley Chub will finally be healthy and playing after missing a year.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_02]: Quentin Bell, Cameron Good, Mokamara, Derek McClendon, and Grayson Murphy the star of half of last year's training camp.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_02]: Size limitation, but he's a guy that can play a little bit of special teams and I kind of like him for the back end.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_02]: of the roster.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_02]: This is a good group, if healthy, and this is what we're doing that bingo thing again where we press, if healthy again.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_02]: Jim Phillips playing on that fifth year option.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_02]: He's playing for that big contract where they keep him if he fires off one of these fourteen sex seasons, because we're seeing what these guys are getting on the edge.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_02]: Tray Henderson hasn't signed yet, and he wants thirty two million dollars a year, and I believe he's five years older than Jim Phillips.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_02]: So your thoughts on this group assignment, it's one of these that on paper looks much much better than last year.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: Does it?
- 54:08[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, look, I think that your, the expectation is pretty large on, on these guys coming back and doing what they're doing in terms of, in terms of what you're expecting, Jaylin Phillips and Bradley Chub to do, given the injuries that they're coming off, you know, Chub has been willing to play football for almost two years.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: when he starts when he comes back to the season.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Phillips is coming off a torn eggshell on a torn Achilles two of the most devastating injuries for quick twitch players like him.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_01]: Trey Hendrickson has seventeen and a half sacks for the last two seasons in each season, led the NFL in sacks last year.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's a completely different ballpark.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Phillips is, you know, a great player I love him, but I think the concern is that, you know, a twenty-nine-year-old badly chub and Jordan Phillips coming off two series injuries, that is huge for them to stay healthy the entire season is huge.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_01]: Love Chuck Robinson, he outplayed my expectations last season and word is from
- 55:16[SPEAKER_01]: multiple people is that he looks much better even than he did last year.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Grace Murphy is clearly your twenty twenty five can of Connor.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_02]: If they stay healthy it's where am I getting credit for this ten of Connor bullshit when I've been saying to cut him for four years already.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_02]: I just didn't hear what he runs fast in the straight line.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_02]: That's why it's at a bottom.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna have like
- 55:40[SPEAKER_01]: I would pull it out dude.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_01]: I literally, you were like one can offer about this guy and I said, mate, he's never had a single cut.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_01]: Ever?
- 55:48[SPEAKER_01]: There's just an error he sent last year.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_02]: I spent an entire podcast talking about how he blew the jet game two years ago in twenty twenty.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: You were talking about the next, the second coming in the last year.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_04]: Trevor's also, what a great champion.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be a real threat.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_01]: What a guy.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, Chris and I were like, he's never caught a pass.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_02]: So here's your audio evidence of this.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I can remember it clear as day because we were pissed that I was laughing about it.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm sure the audience will know exactly which episode it was.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_01]: Grace and Murphy is your Tana Connor is your twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-twenty-
- 56:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's Jennifer, it's going to be explosive as he was before.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_01]: How much of what he does best, what made him a first round pit, what enabled him to get up on outside shoulders, it is still going to remain given what an Achilles and an ACL tech can do to the human body.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think this group is going to be second only to the wider seaver group as far as, you know, how good they are.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_04]: I really do this is this is one of the few groups that I can look at along with wider severs and running backspread where I say.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_04]: This is going to come out well, like I think that this is going to come out pretty well.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_04]: And I do have that faith in them, even though the risks are there, the risks are also in the wider sea or group, too, because you know, going back to that, not to rehash it, but you know, Tyree Kill, we know how far south that can really go and how quickly.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_04]: You know, and with Jalen Wattle, he's always seems like he's always getting nicked up during games, like he's always, you know, limping somehow or doing this.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_04]: So we know how far south the wider super group can go because of embedded risks.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_04]: I think this adjunent has those embedded risks, obviously, with Jalen Phillips and Bradley Chop, I mean, this is undeniable.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_04]: However, on the other hand, Chop Robinson, I believe is going to be as good or better than he was last year.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_04]: More attention means that, you know, sophomore, sophomore slums happen, even Jason Taylor is ever called went through that year where you've got practically no production.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_04]: And before he exploded.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_04]: But you know, I think he's as good from a talent and coaching and technique standpoint.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_04]: As as he was a last year is probably much better as I have a lot of faith in him.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_04]: So the other guys, Jalen Phillips, Bradley Chub, they don't need to be
- 58:39[SPEAKER_04]: That great to turn this into a really good unit.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_04]: And it just so happens that I think that they've also got guys in Quentin Bell, Cameron Good, and Mohammed Khmera.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_04]: And yes, Grace and Murphy, that I think factor in and play and play decent football when they actually get on the field.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_04]: So this is going to be the second best unit behind the wider severs, or maybe the third best behind the wider severs and running backs.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_04]: When all is said and done this year.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_02]: All right, interior linebackers, by the way, I'm trying to find Santa Connor stuff on the through IPC.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't start listening to podcasts.
- 59:21[SPEAKER_04]: Wow.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_01]: It was on the podcast.
- 59:23[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't on three IPC.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_02]: I did.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_02]: I did type Santa Connor stop laughing at Santa Connor during training camp last year.
- 59:31[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever that means.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_01]: You also literally said about how Tana Connor and we pulled you up and it's saying the guy's never had a catch what you talk about and then we get stuff so I was laughing at you.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_02]: Well, to be clear, Tana Connor sucks.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_01]: In theory.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say that last year, sweet cheeks.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_02]: He runs fast in a straight line and they like that the last couple of years.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_04]: Because two years ago, I was actually fairly big sale.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_02]: Ten of Connor that game against the jets were he might have even dropped the game, okay?
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_02]: He catches that pass to kick the field goal.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_02]: They go ahead with about four minutes left and they can play a little bit of defense against Zach Wilson of all people.
- 1:00:14[SPEAKER_02]: Instead, it's calamity after he drops what would have been like a twenty-five yard game.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_02]: into Jet Territory inside the Tonyard line.
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's kind of counter-stirable.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_02]: Interior linebackers.
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_02]: I like this group.
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_02]: Jordan Brooks, you know, I'm a big fan.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_02]: Terrell Dodson played really well in the second half of last season with a gay junior, K.J.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_02]: Brett.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_02]: Ten and ten dolls somehow survives here.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_02]: Eugene Asante and they quant Jackson, a guy that flies a little bit last year in training camp, good special teams player, he should be in that role this year, which should mean that Channing Tindall don't buy a house.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_02]: Your thoughts?
- 1:00:56[SPEAKER_01]: Simon.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't think to know, makes the roster.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_01]: I like to win against Kansas.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think Willie Gaye does a really good job of coming down here, and I think he does a really good job of getting outside of the tackles and making tackles.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_01]: He with the chiefs, especially a couple years ago when we were in the Super Bowl, he did a really nice job of TFLs and just causing havoc in that box area.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_01]: I really like Jordan Brooks, things of real player.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think Britt is kind of a okay one and two down kind of running guy.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_01]: Dodson, I can kind of take a leave, I think it was fine.
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_01]: I like the kid from Auburn that we picked up as a free agent.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're doing this on Thursday as a real shot at the restaurant.
- 1:01:32[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, he's two, two, three.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_01]: five, maybe, to twenty three, something in that kind of area.
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_01]: I like his tape.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he was going to get drafted.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he was a decent player.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I think he's got a shot at kind of getting in amongst it.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think you'll play special teams.
- 1:01:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I think he might get on the field and some packages.
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_01]: He ran a four, four, eight.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_01]: He's not, he's no slouch.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_01]: He's got nice instincts, nice reading react.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was productive.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_01]: He gets not to zero really quickly.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's a good blitzer as well.
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_01]: Some of the coverage stuff is a bit there, but he's explosive and I think he's I think he can play and I think he might stand out in camp.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's an okay group
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think that this is a group that at the top, well, obviously Jordan Brooks is, you don't need very many very money or very much here with this group because, you know, these guys, they're they're sobbing in and out like you need one guy.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_04]: You need one guy and that one guy is Jordan Brooks and as far as one guy's go, I think Jordan Brooks is a pretty good one.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_04]: So, so that's that
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_04]: I see everything else within that context.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_04]: Tyrell dots and you know, there's he's played well in the past.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_04]: He only played a handful of games last year.
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_04]: He played like three games or something like that.
- 1:02:48[SPEAKER_04]: I do worry that people are placing too much hope in him because of the because of three games.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, obviously the Seattle Seahawks who ran the same scheme as Miami Dolphins last year, you saw it to not just like they did the exact same thing we did with David Long.
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_04]: He was a captain at the start of the year and before the end of the year he was dismissed.
- 1:03:11[SPEAKER_04]: So that, you know, you have to see it within that history and and eyes wide open there.
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_04]: So, but I do like Willie Gay, I think AJ, Brent is just a guy, even understanding that he's just going to play like sort of the
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_04]: Anthony Walker kind of role middle, you know, true Michael I in back or kind of role.
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_04]: Pretty gets up there and just be very, and be very physical, even within that context, I think he's just a guy.
- 1:03:37[SPEAKER_04]: So Jordan Brooks and Tyrell Dodson and Willie Gay, I kind of like, I do, but I also see lots of risk with Tyrell Dodson and Willie Gay.
- 1:03:47[SPEAKER_04]: And in the markets, I've been telling us that there are risks in Willie Gay for years.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_04]: Because otherwise, you know, why is he bouncing from team to team?
- 1:03:54[SPEAKER_04]: and not ever getting paid.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_04]: But on the field, he flashes for sure.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_04]: So we'll see how it goes.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_04]: It's really a position that could quickly go south very deeply south, but also could easily play pretty well.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_04]: That helps.
- 1:04:13[SPEAKER_02]: Tyrell Dodson will try to take a streak into this season.
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_02]: He played eight games for Miami last year, but only started three.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_02]: And the three starts he had, he had an interception, each of those games, which were the last three.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_02]: All right, moving on to the corner backs.
- 1:04:31[SPEAKER_02]: And yes, we have to storm duck, Katerko who camps Smith who posted a video of him working out.
- 1:04:39[SPEAKER_02]: That was not a flattering video.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_02]: He should have taken it down and don't post anything ever again.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_02]: Arty Burns, Jason Marshall and Ethan Robinson are getting a lot of good press as young guys that can do something.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_02]: I say Johnson got good press from me last year.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_02]: He was on the practice squad.
- 1:04:57[SPEAKER_02]: Ethan Bonner returns.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_02]: B.J.
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_02]: Adams another guy who has some good press as a young player.
- 1:05:04[SPEAKER_02]: Kendall Sheffield, who I don't know too much about and Ryan Cooper.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_02]: Um, yeah, this group needs vet presence.
- 1:05:13[SPEAKER_02]: I might even add a second player.
- 1:05:15[SPEAKER_02]: There's a couple of players, but it's all projection.
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think the only thing you can hang your head on in this entire group is Caterco, and not much else stormed up, played a guess a good three, four games.
- 1:05:26[SPEAKER_02]: Capture with Campby Healthy, Camp Stay Healthy, finds new injuries every chance he gets.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_02]: I guess you can be optimistic.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_02]: I go be optimistic about as they are Johnson and I want to see Jason Marshall and Ethan Robinson.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_02]: Again, like I say, keep getting pretty good press around here.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_02]: Your thoughts Simon on this group is a terrible group.
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's the worst corner group in the NFL.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that's a up for discussion, really.
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, look, it was Arty Burr and it's a pay fifty-one defensive snap last year.
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_01]: Ethan Bonner runs fast, but can never get on the field.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it was literally a healthy scratch last year.
- 1:06:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Bum Cooper, you know, like Stormdark was okay last year, but you know, you really expect Stormdark to play against
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_01]: In a conference with Joe Barrow and Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes and now I'm Rogers and Justin Herbert and you know all these guys like, no, you know, Marshall, it wasn't particularly impressive at Florida for two years, you know, it's big, it's physical, but he just made so many mistakes, co-who he can play, he can play inside and outside.
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_01]: He's probably going to play outside and I think he's better inside.
- 1:06:33[SPEAKER_01]: It comes with, like I liked him at South Carolina, but he's done absolutely nothing to justify that in two plus years.
- 1:06:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I think if we had a half decent corner group, he would be probably gone this season, but he's almost going to have to pretty much start by default Chris.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's a really bad group in between this and the tight end group.
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's a shocking group.
- 1:06:57[SPEAKER_04]: Starting with the the billing as the worst corner group in the NFL.
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_04]: I think they actually kind of deserve that billing on paper.
- 1:07:07[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I think that that's that is that is there.
- 1:07:09[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think to deny that right now based on how it's stacked up.
- 1:07:14[SPEAKER_04]: It's just very strange that even though I don't have a lot of faith in a lot of the backups, you know, Isaiah Johnson has shown some things and we'll see.
- 1:07:24[SPEAKER_04]: Pump Cooper Kendall Sheffield, even Ethan Robinson Jason Marshall, you know, I could take early these guys.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_04]: Camp Smith has been nothing but a disappointment, already burns.
- 1:07:34[SPEAKER_04]: Is he gonna play or is he just a special team's guy?
- 1:07:36[SPEAKER_04]: Is he gonna play?
- 1:07:39[SPEAKER_04]: Is he gonna play well?
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_04]: I don't have a lot of faith in these backups, but I actually wouldn't be surprised if they could shake out a top three.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_04]: That plays better than we would expect, which is what we expect as dog shit.
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_04]: So I think that, you know, yeah, there's a glass, you know, quarter full.
- 1:08:02[SPEAKER_04]: way to look at this unit I wouldn't be surprised I wouldn't be I would be surprised but not shocked if there was a top three in there between Caterco who was Stormdock and Ethan Bonner that actually kind of works on a football field with some health at the safety unit that obviously has more experience and and overall ability with which we're going to talk about in a second.
- 1:08:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they need a vet to come in and then they need one of these young guys to emerge and they have plenty of them.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_02]: So out of one, two, three, four, five guys, four guys, four young guys, two of which are UDFA's, once a draft pick, and once a returning second year player, one of them has to emerge as something.
- 1:08:51[SPEAKER_02]: And again, they need that veteran to essentially start and play a lot of snaps.
- 1:08:56[SPEAKER_04]: I do like BJ Adams though, I should mention.
- 1:08:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's in that group.
- 1:09:00[SPEAKER_02]: He's in that group of four.
- 1:09:01[SPEAKER_02]: So they're taking four shots at finding one guy and they can't strike out there.
- 1:09:07[SPEAKER_02]: That's a fact.
- 1:09:08[SPEAKER_02]: Now this group and I think it's really just counting on one guy staying healthy because he's he's the one guy who is
- 1:09:15[SPEAKER_02]: the one that manages to not stay healthy and that if you melafon will make a Fitzpatrick returns, Elijah Campbell, Ashton Davis who's going to be in that deep third role.
- 1:09:25[SPEAKER_02]: A role that he actually plays pretty well, Patrick McMores after a pretty good training camp last year, a guy that they stashed and they expected to play this year, Dante Trader.
- 1:09:35[SPEAKER_02]: Jordan Colbert who had a really good training camp last year and preseason, he had three interceptions in preseason, of course, then they caught him.
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_02]: And then John Saunders, Jr., who comes with some fanfare, big guy, bumper.
- 1:09:49[SPEAKER_02]: This is, I think this is a much better group than it was before the make of Fitzpatrick trade.
- 1:09:55[SPEAKER_02]: And only because of the make of Fitzpatrick trade, he kind of
- 1:10:00[SPEAKER_02]: It was a bad group before because you're just counting on one guy who's never been healthy.
- 1:10:05[SPEAKER_02]: Now would make a Fitzpatrick, you're looking at this group and you're thinking, I could see the possibilities here.
- 1:10:10[SPEAKER_02]: They have some versatility to play three guys.
- 1:10:13[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of like this group.
- 1:10:14[SPEAKER_02]: You're a thought Simon.
- 1:10:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think they'll add them on this group actually.
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think those are three way.
- 1:10:20[SPEAKER_01]: Safety set up and Mink allows them to do all sorts of things.
- 1:10:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to win them a nine.
- 1:10:23[SPEAKER_01]: I see it was quite interesting.
- 1:10:25[SPEAKER_01]: Look at larger camera, they clearly like and you've seen the field a bit and they're trusting a little bit.
- 1:10:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think we all admit that Melafonmu and Ashton Davis have got upside.
- 1:10:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's just whether or not they can stay on the field, the shock horror we've heard that before.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, can maybe healthy, can they affect the game, play sixteen, seventeen games and stay
- 1:10:45[SPEAKER_01]: upright healthy.
- 1:10:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think when Morris flashed a little bit and I liked the two rookies.
- 1:10:49[SPEAKER_01]: I liked Trader Junior.
- 1:10:50[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he was a good player at Maryland and I really liked John Saunders.
- 1:10:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I liked what you really liked his tape.
- 1:10:59[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'm intrigued by this group and I think Minca holds it together.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_01]: The key to me is keeping Davis and Milliformer healthy.
- 1:11:06[SPEAKER_01]: If they can, then I think that's some that will be a boon for this secondary because it needs it.
- 1:11:12[SPEAKER_01]: But it
- 1:11:12[SPEAKER_01]: you know, I'm kind of, I'm, I'm borrowing Chris's glass helpful on this, uh, on this group.
- 1:11:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, with this group, with this group, I would say that it's, uh, it is that way.
- 1:11:22[SPEAKER_04]: And this is going to be one of the more solid groups that the Dalton's field this year, I think.
- 1:11:28[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not saying that they're, you know, uh, one of the best safety units out there.
- 1:11:32[SPEAKER_04]: That's, I don't think I, any of us have picked that argument.
- 1:11:36[SPEAKER_04]: I think that it's just one of the more solid and reliable groups, especially after that make a Fitzpatrick trade, which I grant you, he did not play as well the last couple of years as he had earlier with the Fitzbris Steelers.
- 1:11:49[SPEAKER_04]: There is a reason that they felt that they needed to get that very bloated contract off of their books.
- 1:11:55[SPEAKER_04]: if they wanted to get Jalen Ramsey.
- 1:11:58[SPEAKER_04]: There's, you know, this is one team's trash, but for us considering the risks that were already embedded in this unit with the injury history of Melafonmo and Ashton Davis for that matter, relatively unprovenness of Ashton
- 1:12:14[SPEAKER_04]: and Dave is certainly a Patrick reports.
- 1:12:17[SPEAKER_04]: You know, this is our team's treasure with makeup that's Patrick.
- 1:12:21[SPEAKER_04]: So, so if I think that this now looks like a very rational, very solidly built and deep, somewhat deep, you've been it that they can count on.
- 1:12:31[SPEAKER_04]: especially if you look at the skill sets, the total skill sets and the versatility that they present with make up obviously being able to play it in the slot.
- 1:12:41[SPEAKER_04]: And I think Melafonu has the history of that as well.
- 1:12:44[SPEAKER_04]: Elijah Campbell, that was kind of what he was.
- 1:12:47[SPEAKER_04]: He was a slot player, Dante Trader, has backed it in there.
- 1:12:52[SPEAKER_04]: You know, they've got that ability to get in there and mix it up up at the line of scrimmage in the slot as well as the ability to play playback and play your safeties, especially deep safety.
- 1:13:05[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, so I think that this is an overall just a well rounded group.
- 1:13:11[SPEAKER_02]: All right, and finishing up Jason Sanders and Joe Cardona are the place kicker in the long snapper, but there is a competition at Punner Ryan Stonehouse, Jake Bayley.
- 1:13:18[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's the only time we're gonna mention.
- 1:13:20[SPEAKER_02]: Punners on this show, who wins that?
- 1:13:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think it has to be Ryan Stonehouse.
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_02]: Like, why invest if you're not gonna give them the job?
- 1:13:26[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even know what Jake Bayley's still here.
- 1:13:28[SPEAKER_02]: Your thoughts, Simon?
- 1:13:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, start in house.
- 1:13:30[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 1:13:31[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, who wins that?
- 1:13:32[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I don't, I don't really care.
- 1:13:34[SPEAKER_02]: All right, the next time we talk to you, we will be in the middle of training camp.
- 1:13:39[SPEAKER_02]: And we will have some news, I guess, from training camp.
