Transcript
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's already welcome on, and it's that time of week, these suitors on SI podcast, a softball version of the SurinSensei podcast, the softball show.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: And we are officially up and running.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: We have an NCAA tournament bracket in front of us.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: We have an Oklahoma.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: team hosting our regional, we have potential supers, matchups, all that fun stuff, and we are here to break it all down with the Ryan Chapman here, Ryan Aber there, Mr. Aber how we beat.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, doing great.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: Just enjoy the nice weather today.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a good one.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'll call whether actually.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'll tell you a couple of patches of rain.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: We have had pretty much exactly the kind of weather you want.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: We had a small minor delay at the Big 12 softball tournament, which means that postseason softball is ready to happen as long as we have some severe weather or a weather map happening.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: on the same TV as all of the softball goings odds, but cannot wait to dive in.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, I think for just whatever it finds this podcast, you and I had a little bit more of an open weekend than we thought we were going to have as Oklahoma goes down in kind of shocking fashion.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: On Thursday at the SEC tournament, we'll get to all the fallout and all that stuff.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: How will it affect Oklahoma's regional but let's pass board to Sunday.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: It was one of the big questions of the weekend after you saw Nebraska win the big 10.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: Alabama and Texas battle for an SEC title.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's the long horns that win the tournament championship.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: What did that leave as far as seating and all that stuff?
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it turns out it didn't really matter whatsoever for Nebraska because the SEC went one,
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: three and it's the sooners that took the number three overall seed in the NCAA tournament.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: They'll be hosting Kansas and Michigan in the let's go down to the regional and we're not going to use the new parlots.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to use the stuff that we know.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: The number two and the number three team in the Norman Regional, the Kansas J hocks number two, Michigan number three, Michigan, the last team in the tournament field per the NCAA tournament.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: Committee, and then Binghamton, which is a really cool story, I don't know how much time we're gonna spend with Binghamton this weekend, but the Bearcats rallied this season to win the American East and make their way to Norman.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: All things considered Ryan, you might love the number of a side Oklahoma, hate the number of a side Oklahoma.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think that their regional broke in a really, really nice way for the students.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it certainly did and, you know, not that Binghamton's, you know, they've got some things with Rachel Carey's, one of the best hitters in the country, you know, they've got some some dangerous pieces to their lineup, but, oh, you should win this one fairly handily, they get Kansas, you know, the way that they seated this year, going through 32,
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: There's still some regionalization with that with sort of the the basketball look to the bracket with things and you know, it's been a long time since Kansas is beaten Oklahoma.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: They played every year since 1979 so it's even, you know, last year I'll use first year in the SEC that played a couple of times in Norman.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: uh uh you know Michigan isn't certainly what they were under uh Carol Hutchins and uh I think it's about as good a draw as you could have hoped for if you would have said hey that the number three seed not the number one or the two.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: Especially when you look at uh so Alabama got the number one overall seed.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: I know some people had some feelings about that that didn't when the regular season that it went the tournament.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: I listen.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: I look at that stuff too.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like I get that they you try to balance the whole body of work.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: And then C.A.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: tells us the championships matter, but then they don't matter sometimes.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever here would be what I would say.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not picking out of it and not making out the tusk loose regional or anything like that don't misconstru this, but they get Belmont.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: And they get southeast Louisiana, who I think we all see what southeast Louisiana does.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: It usually around this time of year, sometimes they get taken care, but you never really want to see them pop up and be in your region.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: Their reward is getting one of the best pictures in the country, the National Leader in solo, like individual ERA.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's what was headed to the number one scene.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: Texas gets through bailers not, it's one of the off-year bailers, right?
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: We know that bailer have a couple of years that they're in the mix this year, they're out there.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: Texas lines up with Texas A&M, potentially on the bracket.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: If everything goes chalk and supers, which is no guarantee in regional play with A&M, but I would much rather have a potential Oregon matchup who that's who Oklahoma would be paired with if we get way ahead of ourselves of the Eugene Regional or a potential Mississippi State matchup than A&M.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: So it's one of those spots where, yeah, I understand anyone that's not had with the three C, it looks all this up.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: But I kind of look around and go,
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think Oklahoma might just be like, we got our top 4c, the patagonia still wanted, which is what she had told us last Tuesday, uh, in the end, maybe the SEC tournament game is kind of a, a last little wake-up call, warning shot, buzz the tower, whatever you want to say, right before a tournament play to give them one last little, you know, chip on their shoulders, last edge, last, last and the first one over the top, and when you look at some of the other regional stuff, it's like, I think Oklahoma made up pretty good here.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I definitely think they do and it going back to the seeding discussion, you know, Alabama, uh, beat Florida State twice in their non-conference schedule.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think people, it comes up every year, especially in the basketball tournament.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: It came up every year when OU was making the tournament, late in the Lawn Kruger era, and they're like, well, they struggled during Big 12 play.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: The committee looks at body of work and doesn't, yes, championships to some degree matter, but also the conference play doesn't matter nearly as much as people say when you're talking about the labels on the games.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Alabama played a schedule that you probably say is more difficult than Oklahoma's overall.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, not that Oklahoma certainly played a lot of quality teams, but you look at.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: They're lost along Beach State, the lost to Oklahoma State, lost a couple of non-conference games.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: And you get, in my mind, I get where the committee was coming from, with that the biggest thing is that, oh, you, like you said,
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: Petigaso wanted a top three seed.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's what she said.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: She got it.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: She's happy.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: They're at home for for regionals, which you would expect them to get out of fairly handily and then at home for supers against the potentially, you know, one of her former players or one of her former assistance, either way, should be a fun one.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: No, no real complaints there, and then you look at the the bracket breakdown.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: Everything you said is true.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if you would have sent me the group of three teams in each of these regionals.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: VAMT and Michigan Kansas, South Houston, Louisiana, USC upstate Belmont, and Wisconsin Baylor and Wagner.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think all day long.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and no in the potential Super Regional matchup for the seated opponent.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: All day long, you would have taken Candace Binghamton, Michigan, with Oregon waiting in the Supers.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's a weird thing of I usually have not and this is probably where I come from and you are probably similar here we've heard Patty gas so give the line all the time we've won the tournament from the seven seed we won the tournament from the one seed we will a national championship from here from there as long as they are
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: She's okay with it.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think she would probably also maybe add the Addendum that as long as some of those bracket coincidences don't pop up as she Labeled it then she's probably okay with that too.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think you just look back to like last year
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: Florida State was probably a team that should have been in Oklahoma City, and we knew that Oklahoma in Florida State only one could survive as far as that goes.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that all told we'll Oklahoma, if this ends up going chalk and it's owe you an organ for the third time in three years, one in regional play, one at the World Series in a low nation game.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then one in supers will patty gas.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: So love that angle of it.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: No, we know that it's one of those that I did she's like, I hate playing less of a bard not because I dislike less of it because it means what someone has to lose like that kind of thing.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: So all things told I did you look at it.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: I was actually Ryan a little bit surprised.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that Nebraska was just going to go ahead and get the nod, because if you look at some of the RPI stuff, Nebraska finished third in RPI, 11th in strength of schedule, but Nebraska strength of schedule, woes, if you want to put it that, actually came from the fact that they played in the Big 10, but you look at what they did, they're non-conference RPI.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: It was the number two strength of schedule in all of non-conference play.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: If you just did RPI for non-conference, Nebraska at the number one non-conference RPI,
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: They beat UCLA there for the big 10 championship.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of assumed that they might just go, hey, we're about to load up nine SEC teams here at the top 16 and basically every other region has an SEC team is that number two team headed there if they're not one of the nine reach the host sites.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't almost kind of assume that when Alabama had lost that.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: a chance of game that it might go Nebraska and then pick your poison of Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, the next three or whatever.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: So regardless, it just shows you either way, I think patty gas is pretty true to her word when she said, as long as they're in the top three top four, I think she was going to be okay with it.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she's okay with it.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think there's any doubt about that, but I'm right there with you.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Nebraska was very likely.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: I said this late last week was it, I think I'm Friday on the radio.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that if Nebraska won the Big Ten Championship and beat UCLA in the championship game.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: that that would put them over the top with an eliminated OU with some of the things that happened.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: Alabama had a nice finish sweeping their series against South Carolina to end the regular season and then beat an Arkansas in the SEC tournament.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'll see, you know, ultimately following this Texas in the championship game, but I thought that was right there, but I thought Nebraska would likely, if you would have told me how the SEC tournament played out, how the big tin tournament played out, I would have said Nebraska is going to be the number one seed, and was was really surprised, but again, it goes back to the fact that
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't matter what your schedule is, what your non-conference schedule is, what your conference schedule is.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: It matters your whole schedule, and Nebraska was in the big 10, and the big 10 was a little bit down this year in a lot of ways.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: UCLA's still very good.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: They beat them three out of four times.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: There are some other moderately dangerous teams, but UCLA Oregon,
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: Nebraska were really sort of separated from from the rest and I think that that shows up in, you know, what the seedings wound up being.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, very top of it.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: It was reminiscent of some of the best big 12s, maybe not the very, very best big 12s, which usually included, oh, you Texas OSU up here in the upper echelon, and then you had Baylor at maybe their best two or three years ago, the year that Glidmore was co-coach to the year with Paddy Gas, so it's definitely that, which, no, hey, love Glidmore.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what to feel about that, but,
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: ran into him at a globe life one time, like the weekend after the big-tailed tournament, he was like, do I know you from somewhere?
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, yeah, we were just talking and like, cool, hope your brave's lose.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: And he did a night, there was like, yeah, perfect.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: So, anyway, I digress out, Ryan, Monday morning, you had the story,
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: You started off with a, again, a really, really cool story of just how Binghamton got to the NCAA tournament.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: They looked like they were kind of at a crossroads, maybe middle of their conference site, but caught fire in one of the American East, and then this is a different Kansas team.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: I feel bad for Kansas, but we talked on the radio stuff like that.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: I usually interchangeably would be like, there's not any Kansas or any Iowa State, it's in the SEC.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: I've had to drop Kansas out of that.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: friends and aims have taken a lot of shots unnecessarily because I don't have a better answer than well I'm sorry there's no Kansas states in the SEC because they don't play softball others one that's vulnerable but either way what is coming into Norman in this new look Kansas team certainly a Michigan team that kind of scraped into the tournament and then the Bearcats.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I look at Kansas as the biggest threat to Oklahoma.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if Kendall Wells wasn't in this regional, you would say that the best freshman catcher in the country is still in the regional, because Ella Boyer has been fantastic this year.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: If it wasn't for Kendall Wells, she'd be getting a whole lot more attention than she's
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: the average isn't fantastic 336 but drove in 57 runs they've said I believe they said a program record for for home runs this season so this is an offense that has a little bit of a pop to it and they've also got a freshman picture in Lila partridge who has been really good as well not overpowering but able to you know get a pretty good
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this is a team that Jennifer McFalls has been around before.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: She's sort of been building this thing, but this year they've seem to take a significant step forward for them.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Michigan, like you mentioned, they've got.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: uh... so pretty good pitching there uh... in uh... gaby Ellis uh... uh... strong uh... hundred eleven innings uh... there in if they've also have air in home who's thrown eleven so there uh... really uh... uh... two-headed monster in the pitching staff uh... department but uh... uh... uh... law and puts has been fantastic for them hit in four forty two twenty one home runs in seventy seven rb ads and has drawn a lot of walks
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: uh... this year uh... so she's uh... dangerous there but
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: Binghamton is the best story in this field just to be able to come from how they did their five games under 500.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: But we're able to come up finish second in the America East and then in the America East tournament had to win two games in the championship series and in the first game
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: and came back and won that just sort of strung together a lot of hit some walks took advantage of a couple of errors and we're able to win that game and then won the next game, you know, not didn't have to come back from seven runs down in that one to win it.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: They've got
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: mentioned Rachel Carey earlier, one of the best hitters in the country.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_01]: She's hitting 477 this year, so she's been fantastic, but again, I just don't see OU having many problems getting through this.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: The biggest thing that they've got to do, I think, is establish their pitching staff.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: get some continuity, figure out what that's going to look like in the postseason and then just get these bats going again more consistently because for a lot of the year we saw that they were really slow to get started and it would take them to the you know fourth fifth innings to start getting on the board and then in the SEC tournament it was completely reversed.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: They scored a lot of runs, five runs, and the first two innings against Georgia, first inning, and one batter against Georgia, and then the offense just completely disappeared.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: Now, that had a lot to do with the freshman pitch here on Georgia side.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: He was fantastic.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: So, we're not taking anything away from her there, but OU needs to be a better, more consistent approach offensively if they're going to make it back to Oklahoma City.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and that's something that I think when you look at it, it's easy to
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: The standard that Oklahoma has set has been so high that we just have not seen that they'd ever had Thursdays like you just saw in Lexington that just didn't happen, right?
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: They'd taken trouble with the game and usually they'd have that.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: The close thing they got to that a year ago was, was it game two against Texas that they jumped out to a big early lead?
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like they were in run rule territory.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: They gave it all way and then came back and won the game anyway, down in normal.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's like maybe the closest thing I think I can remember in these last
- 17:58[SPEAKER_00]: four or five years to what we kind of saw in Lexington, that team is able to pull that out of the fire.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: This team was not able to, but I think that
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: This is a team that does not lost two games any weekend all year long and if they continue that the rest of the year they're going to win a national championship because that's what it takes, you know what I mean to get to this spot near so I don't think that by any means it's like this team has a fragile mentality and they need to build this confidence back up or anything like that, but I do think this is a regional that will allow them to get into rhythm and maybe get rolling again because you mentioned that Kansas and Michigan both have ACEs that
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: On their day can go.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: If Oklahoma can crack that code though, Kansas staff ERA, number 84 coming into the tournament, Michigan staff ERA, 135th in the country coming into the tournament.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's a group that Georgia, well, it may be unproven, has a bunch of different arms.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: They can throw at you a bunch of different quality arms.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: that is the separator between a team that's an national seed.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think two, one of the other things that has worked us is we are used to a local home up, building in and having the most important series, like the Texas series is always on Easter and then OSU is the most important series after that going into the postseason.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: We've not seen a month of this though, where Oklahoma had their four toughest series all in a row with the bed the midweek thrown in there.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: There have been moments in years past where I think
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: If there wasn't a emotional let down, it didn't show up necessarily in the box score and there would be games or pati gas.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: It was like not happy as they won 6 so and she's like, we're wasting ending things like that, but I think everyone's like, whoa, shoot the fireworks, play Boomer Sooner and run around the bases and we want to the next one.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: I just think that's the difference between, you know,
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: the SEC and in the big 12 where you can kind of sleepwalk through some of those series and be okay or like a bailer can pop up occasionally when a game or a BYU can pop up and when a game after a tough Texas series something like that and I just think that's a a new little bit that everyone's still getting recalibrated to because if you look at the SEC National Champions, they always have a handful more losses than maybe what we were used to and this is just something that people in SEC country are like.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: used to between the baseball and the softball happening is when it already wasn't super conference to a certain extent.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, this is what I think those of us who paid attention expected it to get significantly harder when they got into the SEC.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: Now, there were some SEC people who said, oh, oh, you're not going to, you know, the dominance has gone, everything like that because they're going to have to play a much deeper schedule.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's not.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: They've won the two one two regular season titles and very well, you know, could have won the SEC tournament last year if it weren't for some rain on that Saturday.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: But first of all, going back or when out first of all, because I've been talking.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: Next, going back to something you said early, it was actually the third game of that Texas series.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's the one where, uh, oh, you jumped out to an 80 lead, uh, gave back six of it.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think in the fourth, and then, uh, Texas tied it at
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: at 8 and then oh you broke the tie and wind up when in 98 into that one, but yeah it's a much deeper schedule and it's much harder to manage sort of the roller coaster of things where it's not just how you've got to get up for this one game or this one series you have to be sharp every game and the other thing of it is
- 21:32[SPEAKER_01]: George has been really good.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's a reason why Georgia had not been swept in the the Butler era until, uh, oh, you did it last week and going into that.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: You just sort of felt like maybe there was an edge to that Georgia team as, uh, you know, you hear them talking.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: You heard them say, hey, it's not about what can we do to beat this, you know, really good.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you team, it's about
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they're not gonna beat us four times because we're too good to do it.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: And it wound up proven to be the case because once they were able to get back into the game, not even necessarily until they tied it.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: But right before that, when they just were able to get on the board and get back into the game, you just felt this massive shift of momentum there.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I think the biggest thing for Oklahoma is regaining.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: that confidence to some extent, but just the sort of the mojo of things as they look to get back into postseason form.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think for some, all you can do is take away the lessons and roll through that.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: So in a way, I know that Patty Gasso and the coaching staff are going to be furious on how that thing went down.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: talking about their being, you know, shell shock, talking about kind of looking around the in-field and the pitching staff and seeing some eyes that were really big.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think Patty used to wear glazed over, but I think we all know what she's looting to there as part of that goes.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think the spin-off of that though is that they're probably gonna take that away and go, okay, for a bunch of the, they're still a ton of underclassments.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: I know these sophomores went through an incredible run a year ago and went out as fighting champions and made Texas Tech knocked them out in the semi-finals,
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: They still have been through one SEC tournament and one NCAA tournament up until this point.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: You've got Kind of Wells and Kai Miner and Kai Miner.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: She didn't get any of the blitz.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: She's like, I did everything I could have done.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_00]: It was the rest of you.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: No, kidding.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's how they look at it.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: Kai Miner was sensational.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, even in a lawsuit, it's Georgia, but I think that Patty Gaff, so once you get out of it, it's going to use that as, okay.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: I've got that little cat net above.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: You don't believe me when I tell you that every at bat, every inning matters in the postseason.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_00]: You better keep your foot on the throttle.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: Make that thing go.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think that'll be available last Sunday.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just really interested because Oklahoma's pitching staff is such an interesting and nigma because we have seen really high highs from just about everybody at that staff at a point this year.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: And everyone on that staff inside whether it be a relief appearance or a start that they're like,
- 24:08[SPEAKER_00]: that did not go well at all.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think that might be the two big differences of years passed and I think that everyone knows.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: There's no Jordi on this staff.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: There's no Kelly Maxwell.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: There's probably not even a Sam Landry at the top end as far as just when they're on and at the very, very top, that's someone that can motor through a lineup in Oklahoma City with 12 strikeouts.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: But we've also seen,
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: Audrey Lauri, Marley with Shani was a one-two punch, be good enough to go out there and win on Friday, win on Saturday in Austin.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: Go out there and win on Friday, win on Saturday, or game one game two, even though it's not whatever.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: I against Georgia, a team that's is good enough into the country and give up what was it?
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: Three runs total in the process through the first two games.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like so if you do that,
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to be playing for everything you want to play for.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's just about, I think the reason that this staff BRA is high is it is right now.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's not about like the top end talent.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's about minimizing when they're not perfect.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: When they're not perfect, it looks we just haven't seen for the other you pitching staff a lot.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, you know, this is a team that's, you know, allowed a lot of walks.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: uh... in you know a couple of instances hit a lot of a lot of batters and given up just a lot of extra base runners that uh... uh... patty gaso gin rocha coach team doesn't normally uh... give up and some of those have really come back to to buy them i mean heck just look at uh... you know some of a list of parkers uh... recent outings where she didn't get hit around you know really bad it's just
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: she gives up a walk and then somebody scratches out a hit and then somebody else scratches out another hit and all of a sudden you're in really big trouble and then somebody pops one out of the park so they've got to minimize those things I think you know this is a team that that with them as inconsistent as their pitching staff has been I think they're still
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I've said it several times they're going to make it out of regional fairly easily, but this a team that certainly can miss Oklahoma City if those pitchers don't start training in things together and they're also a team that if the pitchers get hot and do what they did, especially, you know, over most of the last month, until the last little bit of it,
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: they can get hot and, you know, win the whole thing, but it's just, there's such a wide gap.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_01]: between the top end, the ceiling, and the floor with this group that we just haven't seen before, because they don't have that overpowering picture.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: They don't have a sand landry, and that someone that you can just roll out there and rely on to eat innings for you.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: Audrey Lauer has been really good for long stretches, but she's also struggled, especially in some of those bull pin appearances.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: My little machinio has generally been pretty good out of the bullpen, but has had a couple of games with struggle lately, and she's been inconsistent at times starting, so it's just, that's just to me the biggest question about where this team ultimately ends up with their season is it's going to be on the backs of a pitching staff.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think the offense,
- 27:30[SPEAKER_01]: is gonna put runs together.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, they need to be more consistent, but they're gonna be able to do that, but the pitching staff is gonna determine where this team ultimately winds up.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: Then there's also the wild card, something that is really, honestly, it's impossible to quantify, but it's something that I know that you and I, many times in the media dining room at Oklahoma City, we're in the bowels of Hall of Fame Stadium, Devon Park, after we've seen, whether it's Patty Gass or a gin rocha or a little bit of both of them, take a picture who was really good.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: And over the course of six days, turn them into something we've not seen them be, whether it be at any point in that season, at any point in their career or at any point in a couple of years.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I think back, if you just look at some of these post-COVID runs, G-war ads, let's go to the live-back to 2021.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: G is someone that the whole story of that season was G has to get 2019 G-War as out of her head.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's not coming back.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: You're a different pitcher now after the surgery.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: And then G-War as has just one of those moments where it's put up for shut up time.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_00]: And then she comes out on the other side of it.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: And you're right.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: 2019 G-War as wasn't there because she was even better than the best version of G that we had seen, which seemed,
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: In saying, Jordy, I don't think it's quite that scenario that was a, you are healthy, take his home, inner sandman, roll the credits, Oklahoma wins, you had Kelly Maxwell who the whole season of Kelly was kind of talking about a little bit of that internal battle, I think some of the
- 29:05[SPEAKER_00]: The who is Kelly Maxwell, all the chatter about the transfer, all that stuff.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: They leave her out there against Florida, and that first game, they'll come to end up losing.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: She kind of sparks and comes alive in the sixth and seventh inning.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: They roll her right back out there the next day.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's the Kelly Maxwell that we saw that took Oklahoma State within a couple of defensive errors of the champ series, suddenly by the being Bada Boom, dog pile.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: boom and even say later at that was someone that had shown she had a little bit of an edge, I think she just ran out of gas a little bit so come ahead to play an extra gamer too, but that that's one of the big wild cards, we know that patty gas so in gin rocha, it's not even necessarily like,
- 29:42[SPEAKER_00]: technical stuff or there's a mechanical thing or this or that, they just have this feel for how to push the buttons, how to get the best out of people, whether it's relieved the pressure or fire them up or calm them down and there's no coaching staff that has more experience and is better at it in Oklahoma City at the Omni in between games.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even talk about it in part, but in the team rooms, all that stuff than in this group.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think I'd also throw in, even though her ERA went up in the postseason, hope trout line that year that she was part of the pitching step.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: But we're as is the one that just really pops out at you with what she was able to do.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: So, I think certainly, especially, I mean, heck, any of
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: Audrey Lowry, Myley Wachanyo, Sydney Berson, you could see, you know, channeling that and becoming that kind of picture now.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they're going to get the innings that were as got that year in the post season just because they're going to spread things out a little bit more now.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: But if they can unlock something like that, anything in the ballpark of that.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: They've got a chance to at least be planned and to send my finals and when you're planned and to send my finals You had a chance to win the thing Especially with the offense that they've got so Yeah, that that's gonna be the biggest question and I'm certainly not gonna put it past Jen Rocha especially given
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: You know, what her season has been like and the rhythm of it, I think I wonder if this, you know, couple extra days off, even though it's not a ton, can help her and that pitching staff sort of get to a much better place than they've been.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: given the fact that everything has just been sort of, you know, flying around by the seat of their pants, given the pre-season, going to Carly Keeney, and then Jen Rocha, you know, coming back, all of that stuff, I think it's, maybe gets overlooked how difficult that is, just because of how good Jen Rocha has been.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's also a spot where I think,
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: some of the pitching decisions are gonna get simpler in the postseason.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: We've seen a lot of hey, I want to play this match up here or hey, this would be a great spot to get a list of Parker or Berkeley's okay like we need that experience and you'll see if Oklahoma gets up big it's being into an early
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: You'll see some of that.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: We need this picture to feel what it's like to pitch it loud and feel during the postseason, whether it's first on or the freshman stuff like that.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_00]: Once you get the weekend to, that kind of goes away.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: It becomes, say, our Julyer is going to pitch the first game, which changes probably going to pitch the second game, hope you punch your ticket Oklahoma setting.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_00]: Once you get to go to city, Laura's going to pitch on Thursday and shoot, she might come back and pitch on Saturday.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: If you win that game and you roll, it's just going to be like the matchups and who do you like it?
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: We have seen Patty Gatso be a staff pitcher or a staff coach all the way up until they walk into Devon Park and she'll hand them all to Sam later and say take us home or she'll hand them all to Jordan and say take us home.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: Let me introduce you to see that, but it starts with stacking three good performances in the idea of work for Oklahoma.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: This weekend, the schedule as it goes.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you've been into that once the first game out in the Norman Regional on Friday, 230 PM.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: That'll be an SEC network game, Michigan, and Kansas will follow that one as tentatively penciled for five o'clock.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's welcome to take care of us on Friday.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_00]: They'll come back on to a clock on Saturday.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: 230 on Friday, if they win that, it'll be two o'clock Saturday to take on the winner of Michigan and Kansas, the losers will go right after that.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone knows if you follow that the Saturday first game loser will then play the winner of that second game Saturday night to get into the regional final and that will get going Sunday at two o'clock.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: whoever is standing tall, going into Sunday, gonna have to get beat twice to not make it to super's, all of that stuff, all of that fun.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: Before we get to some of the conference awards and home un-race and stuff like that, was there anything else from around the country when you were looking at the bracket that really stuck out to you just because I couldn't help but think when Patty Gasso talked about coincidences and we kinda talked about some of them anyway, but
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: couple of spots.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: First off, Texas and Texas A and then if things go chalk, meeting in Super's cinema, just absolute cinema as it goes.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was absolutely fantastic that UCLA and Florida State being the eight nine, the big discussion about that, two teams that had played.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_00]: And so you're going to have a little bit of extra there, but I can't help but think
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: For a minute, it was creeping down, creeping down, and as I'm feeling stuff out and trying to file the story about Oracle homilands, you'll look at 12 and I go, wow, Oklahoma State's not up there yet.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_00]: I have 14 bolded knowing that that's going to be the matchup.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_00]: They pop up at 13, which I go, okay, so they avoided a potential bedroom super.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_00]: And tell me,
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: I looked at the bracket and said, Oh, you know where how Jordi ball in Ruby mail in Jordi from, excuse me, in Ruby mail in started their careers, battling each other in travel ball in Nebraska, perhaps all that stuff.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: How is one of those pictures?
- 35:09[SPEAKER_00]: Probably everything takes care of itself.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to in their career.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: battling on the Super Regional stage, that's incredible.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_00]: You've got ASU in Trisha Ford, regional, I mean, the NCAA committee.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot more fun when it's not like you look at the regional gun.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_00]: Well, this is stupid for my team.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it is a definitely interesting to me that last one that you mentioned, you know, OSU and Nebraska being a potential matchup and the supers is just super fascinating with those pictures.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: with their history against each other, with Jordy Ball's history and Bedlam, things like that.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: So that'll be a blast.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully that that will, you know, come to pass their Texas Texas tech say name.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, it seems like anytime the NCAA can put them on a path to each other, they're going to do it in recent years.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: And then just, you know, all of the
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: in the supers.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, oh, you could have one with Mississippi state.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: If they're able to upset Oregon, obviously, that would be fascinating on some level two.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't play each other.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_01]: Samantha Ricketts there.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: Texas Tech Ole Miss in the the regional is really interesting because I think Ole Miss is a team that
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: maybe he got overlooked a bit because of how just brutal their first part of their SEC schedule was and then they were able to you know get on a little bit of a run win some games that you wouldn't have expected him to uh and and uh you know go from there Texas Tech is a team that yes they've got you know Nigel Kennedy and she's been fantastic although uh
- 36:57[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they lost the big tip, big 12 championship game the other day, but their RPI isn't great.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_01]: So how good are they really given their schedule.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_01]: That will be, you know, fascinating to watch and then.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think Tennessee Georgia potential matchup in a supers would be really intriguing as well if the chalk holds in those two regionals, which I mean Clemson could certainly jump up and by Georgia in that one I expect Tennessee to come out of that you know fairly easily, but it should be
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: should be a really fun, you know, weekend around the country taking in all of the action, not just the action down in Norman.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's one of my favorite times of the year, especially because it signals this beginning of
- 37:54[SPEAKER_00]: We get to regionals, we get to super, and right as you get into the fever pitch of the world series, which is its own special brand of chaos, but it kind of perished down a little bit, you got eight teams left, then we had straight and do baseball.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_00]: Regionals happening at the same time, so then it's almost like you fire it up one more time as one ends it passes the baton to the other to carry us into the summer.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: So it should be a ton of fun.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_00]: Not the only thing we got to break down here Ryan, as you look at it on Friday,
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: After Oklahoma back, the SEC Awards were released.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: The suitors lead the way with 177 players excuse me on your all SEC teams.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_00]: Your first teamers, Kind of Wells, Gabby Garcia, Kai Miner, Ella Parker, on the second team of Abbey Dayton, Isabella Immerling, and Audrey Lowery,
- 38:41[SPEAKER_00]: Parker and Garcia all SEC defensive team selections and then kind of wells your SEC freshman of the year first time at Oklahoma player has won that Only two bites at the apple, but we get that there All well deserved.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_00]: I need to ask you about two things and we're gonna stir the pot in embrace controversy all that fun stuff first stop
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know Agbionny, no love, Gold Glover, anything like that.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_00]: And then secondly, I know that a lot of people looked at, did they give Kindle Wells solo freshman of the year because Katie Stewart wins SEC player of the year.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: Was that a, you'll get a next year type situation.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_00]: How'd you kind of see some of those other SEC awards panning at with no Agbionny on any of the all SEC teams seeing as they name.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: Approximately 7,000 people do all the SEC teams and then certainly no kind of wells as the SEC player of the year Yeah, it's starting with Ogbani the only team where they don't name 50 players to the team is the all defensive team Where they only name one position one player per position, which I think is the right way to go Just for me I think it's a indication that
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: the people who were voting on these are only looking at air numbers and how many airs did they have.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I, I, I, I, I only had, you know, a few more airs than she did last year, but.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: She also made plays that were just unbelievable.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we can talk about four or five of them just off the top of our head.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the place she made in center field to go out and almost steal a catch opportunity.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_01]: Well, so you did steal a catch opportunity from a guy minor a couple weeks ago.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that was just, that was one of the best plays.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'd seen it a long time.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: She made a lot of plays where she robbed players of hits.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: that were heading into right field, just fantastic defender.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think, you know, certainly Gabby Garcia was well-deserving there, but, and not take anything away from Gabby Comia, from Florida, but, uh, I buy any was fantastic to me.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_01]: That was probably the biggest snub of the group.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: So often on these awards, they do exactly what you're saying.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's, well, this player won the freshman in the year.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_01]: So she's going to get this award.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: So let's give the other one to Katie Stewart.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: Let's spread the wealth a little bit or they have some conferences that have their superlatives, pitcher of the year, don't name those players to the teams themselves.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_01]: which is absurd.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_01]: So it's just the way that these things go, but I do think if Kendall Wells keeps doing what she's doing and there's no indication that she won't.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_01]: She's going to have probably a couple of these at least in her back pocket, but you know, it was, it is what it is.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't put too much stock in coaches voting for awards or their representatives voting for awards.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_01]: Just because of the, I mean, there's inherent bias there, even if they're not voting for their own players.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: It kind of builds on a little bit of the, what can you guys ask you had to say, I know we're not in a shoe podcast, but that sounded like an insane situation and I'll put Ryan in a terrible spot, but I'll say it in this opinion is Ryan Chapman's opinion is not reflect Ryan Aver.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_00]: That just shows you that the big 12 comm side of things is a little bit of a Duke to do and a little bit of a circus at times and we've had
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: uh... different uh... versions of that but the long short of this i wish that you would get where the coaches ballots would be released because uh... i think most years i think ninety nine percent of the time
- 43:00[SPEAKER_00]: uh... losers like you and me would click through it and just hey what's happening here what's happening there yada yada yada but there would be some years that would be very very interesting to go through and be like what is everybody's ballot as far as this and that and i think that this would have been one of those years that would have been fun not just for like the
- 43:19[SPEAKER_00]: big 12 picture of the year certainly, but I think for SEC player of the year and hey, I don't think that Kind of Wells is motivated by such individual honors, I think that she thinks that that's kind of like a plus of having a really nice team success, but if it gives her 2% more motivation, concentration, stuff like that, only the local home is going to mind, it's far as that goes.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_00]: UCLA did, it's a weird spot here.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_00]: easily played two more games this week, yet they still are trailing in the total game tally, but we saw UCLA pull ahead in the home run race.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_00]: If you're interested, certainly Megan Grant hit Homer's number 37 and then 38 to break Laura Espinoza's record still only two out in front of Kindlewell.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: So it's still well with the rage we have seen this home run race go back and forth.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_00]: Oklahoma had it for so long after the Alabama state series and the kind of
- 44:13[SPEAKER_00]: uh... was the distance uh... it's okman to introduce you see play but here will be the thing uh... okman was hammered away against george early and i think that this will be a spot where usually it's probably the same thing but uh... it'll be nice for okman to see some not at cc pitching i i think you're going to see a return of some of the goddy numbers that we become accustomed
- 44:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no doubt about it, you know, there's not an Alabama state waiting in the wings here, but it just takes so much out of you with the depth of OU's lineup.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_01]: And when you get into the SEC,
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: One, the pitching quality takes a massive step forward, but also just the knowledge base, and you know, being able to one compare hitters to hitters, but also as you work your way through a series, having heck, as we saw with Georgia, you work your way through the series, and it becomes much, much harder to put up those kind of numbers.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I think oh, you still
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of well certainly has a shot at it only be in a couple of home runs behind Making grant especially if they're you know winds up UCLA gets beat supers or something and then oh, you make some run or something like that happens in the games discrepancy grows even larger, but what a fun race this has been and
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: And it just, you know, really been fascinating to keep up with this OU UCLA home run match, the Megan Grant Kindle Wells home run race throughout the year.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's not quite Sammy Sosa, Martin Gwire back in my day, but it's certainly been a fascinating one.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: And we all knew it was bound to happen from probably, you know, a little bit before maybe even the midway point of the season.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's been a ton of fun and I cannot wait to get you to roll this bad boy in the region.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's just some other stuff you guys can be aware of, be on the lookout for this week is when we'll have the National Player of the Year list cut down from 25 to 10.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_00]: Next week, it'll get cut down to the finalists and then right before the one's controlled series that night before the banquet, all that stuff.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: We will see that get released, uh, Chi minor and Kind of Wells also both made the top 10 for freshman of the year.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_00]: I would not be stunned if they both kind of also make that violence list just because they've been so good as far as that goes But we'll continue to cut down those lists and as those lists do get cut down We will continue to update you on where everyone stands because Oklahoma's gonna have finals at all those But it'll just be who makes it through to the finals and all that stuff and then What does that procedure all things from there?
- 46:56[SPEAKER_00]: But ever anything else before we get out of here
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: On a Monday, we'll probably talk to Patty Gasser and crew tomorrow, which means on Wednesday, the full source on a side pod, we'll have a full recap of everything, Oklahoma reaction from just selection Sunday, all that stuff, and then the therefore preview of this weekend's regional.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think to me, the biggest thing, and you touched on just the mechanics of it, but
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: I love the schedule what how it plays out being, you know, middle of the day, not too early and not too late at all, the fingers crossed for weather, but should be a great weekend out at Love's Field.
