- 0:00SpaceX is collaborating with NASA on an integrated low earth.
- 0:03Orbit architecture to provide a growing portfolio of Technology
- 0:08with near-term. Dragon evolution and concurrent
- 0:11Starship development. Now this architecture includes
- 0:15Starship as a transportation and in space, low earth, orbit
- 0:19destination, element supported by super-heavy.
- 0:22That's the Starship dragon and starlink we had two constituent
- 0:26capabilities including crew and cargo transportation.
- 0:30Station Communications and operational and ground support
- 0:34today. I'm so joining me today is Neil
- 0:37Thorn and we're going to be talking about what this means
- 0:40from NASA. And what SpaceX is capable of
- 0:43and how this is going to change, space travel and space
- 0:48exploration forever. And how this can eventually turn
- 0:51into a thing that SpaceX could use for their Mars,
- 0:54Transportation be a Starship. But before we get into this
- 0:58conversation, let's take a moment.

- 1:05Thank you for asking. So the Starship going into low
- 1:08earth orbit, and it seems like SpaceX and NASA are working
- 1:12together to use this as some sort of Transportation Hub or
- 1:16some sort of space station in the near term.
- 1:21And do you think that's what they're looking at here?
- 1:23We don't know. It's a very vague sort of
- 1:25approach that NASA is taking they're not saying billed as a
- 1:28space station. Saying help us out in low earth
- 1:32orbit hard to say exactly what it is they're expecting out of
- 1:37this. I've thought for you ever since
- 1:39the Starship became a thing that putting this huge object into
- 1:45space. This Starship which one Starship
- 1:48has more interior volume than the space station does.
- 1:51Right now you link three or four of those together and suddenly
- 1:54you've got quite a bit of space up there to reactivities.
- 1:58Yeah, it'll be an interesting next few years for the Starship
- 2:02and for NASA, because eventually NASA will be the orbiting the
- 2:06International Space Station. What is it?
- 2:0820 30, I believe 2030 2032 or something.
- 2:12So, somewhere around there, always seems to be a flexible
- 2:15number. Yeah, that's it always seems
- 2:17like I think they wanted to do in 2026 at some point.
- 2:21Yeah. And then they think it's long as
- 2:22it's useful though. They're going to keep it going.
- 2:24But yeah, I think so too. I think as long as The taxpayers
- 2:28can pay for it. And as long as yeah, the they're
- 2:31seeing some returns from it. It's such an expensive thing to
- 2:35run. Every day to keep six people up
- 2:39there, it's just such an expense And everything in there is so
- 2:44outdated. At this point, the technology is
- 2:46advancing so fast, your honor that even something, they
- 2:50started building six years ago that got sent up there.
- 2:53Two years ago, is so far beyond the technology right now that it
- 2:59almost becomes irrelevant. Yeah.
- 3:00And SpaceX is working currently on their starship program and in
- 3:04the next, hopefully we can see this in the next, as Ilan, said
- 3:08six to eight weeks another launch of Starship and When that
- 3:13happens, we'll see if it's actually going to be a
- 3:14possibility or feasibility that this will make it to orbit.
- 3:18And once it does make it to orbit these studies that SpaceX
- 3:21and NASA will be working together on could become a
- 3:24thing. And they have to work together
- 3:26to get SpaceX is Starship on to the Moon as well for Artemis 3.
- 3:30So maybe this could be part of that because they need to dock
- 3:33with the Space X star ship in order to get to the moon.
- 3:38So as you say everything that they need to use to help NASA
- 3:42here, They have to do for the moon as well.
- 3:44So it's going to be being built in sequence.
- 3:47I think in parallel I should say, yeah, they're going to be
- 3:51using super heavy which is the Starship program a dragon and
- 3:55starlink. So the dragon will more than
- 3:58likely be docking with it. And I think the Polaris program
- 4:02will be using a dragon to duck with a Starship.
- 4:05I think what's going to happen is they're going to send a
- 4:08Starship to orbit. We're going to get it up there,
- 4:10then they're going to send the crew of Polaris program.
- 4:13In a capsule Dragon capsule on a falcon 9 in the dock with a
- 4:17Starship kind of mimicking. What they're going to be doing
- 4:20with the Starship in the Orion capsule.
- 4:23And then they're going to they're going to go inside the
- 4:26Starship and do some testing and do some science and some
- 4:30experimenting some engineering and see if it's actually
- 4:34feasible to live in one for a little bit and then do some
- 4:37more, some more testing inside and maybe outside of the
- 4:41Starship. So I think that's what they're
- 4:45thinking here. I'm not 100% sure but yeah it's
- 4:48very vague. It really is very vague this
- 4:51whole wording. I think they kept.
- 4:52That way. So I think so.
- 4:55So they can't be like this Starship is going to replace the
- 4:57International Space Station. Exactly.
- 5:00I think that would make a lot of companies, very angry, the blue
- 5:03Origins, the Axiom space, all these people would be very upset
- 5:09at that. So I think you keep it vague
- 5:11they're going to help us out. We're going to use their
- 5:13capabilities to further our goals as it.
- 5:19Yeah. And maybe I go happens to be a
- 5:20new space station perhaps be news.
- 5:22Space station. Yeah.
- 5:23Maybe eventually they will. Maybe eventually they will turn
- 5:27a International Space Station. Turn it away, get rid of it and
- 5:31then they'll put couple Starships together, or even one
- 5:33Starship, he's a hunter. There's a thousand, cubic meters
- 5:37estimated, in terior volume of a Starship.
- 5:41Which if built right can hold for Earth to Earth transport.
- 5:45100 people. According to Elon Musk more than
- 5:48likely for these kind of machines, it'll be something
- 5:50similar to the International Space.
- 5:52Where it's about six people. Maybe the Starship could hold a
- 5:56little bit more because the space station has 915 cubic
- 5:59meters of internal space and it's not that much different.
- 6:05It's 85 M3 different. So you could put some more
- 6:08supplies in this Starship but literally yeah it's no the space
- 6:13in the state space station is more compartmentalize so it's
- 6:17more usable space. Yeah, than the Starship which
- 6:20would be more open plan. But obviously much probably much
- 6:25better for people's psyches as well.
- 6:28Yeah, I think so. Most of the renderings we've
- 6:31seen have has been a tube through the Middle with a ladder
- 6:35or some sort of Transport in the Middle where you can go from
- 6:38section to section but it's pretty wide open through the
- 6:40whole Starship. And I think just people spend a
- 6:44year plus on the International Space Station and their
- 6:47segmented off doing their experiments.
- 6:49Don't see anybody maybe all day maybe throughout the day, they
- 6:52might see one or two people but if they maybe there's seven
- 6:56eight people in a Starship maybe you.
- 6:58See all the way through the star ship while people are working.
- 7:01I think they'll be really neat. I don't know if that's how it's
- 7:03going to accept you. I think it would be a much more
- 7:06enjoyable atmosphere to even if you're not working with somebody
- 7:10that they happen to be across the nine meter gap between you
- 7:13and work on something else. And you can see them.
- 7:15I think that camaraderie gets built and then again, people can
- 7:19also get on your nerves. Much faster.
- 7:21Yeah, that's true. So obviously, when they select
- 7:24an astronaut, they do a lot of psychological studies to make
- 7:27sure they're going to live. And play well with others that
- 7:29we have to continue. Yeah.
- 7:33And sending 100 people and Starship to any long distances
- 7:36is really difficult to conceive of what are we talking 17?
- 7:4116, 17 people per sort of Our ship, if you will, I can't
- 7:46imagine traveling. Very long distance.
- 7:49Stuck in the same room, my sort of bedroom, if you will the
- 7:52entire time, that would be very difficult because it wouldn't be
- 7:55much room for anything else. Yeah, that's true there.
- 7:57So the there's been talks of how many people could go on Mars
- 8:03ship to a from anywhere from six people to some people were
- 8:09saying 30 people. There were some people that were
- 8:12saying upwards of People to Mars.
- 8:16I don't think it's gonna be 100 people.
- 8:17I think that's ridiculous. I think that's way too many.
- 8:20But I think if you have something like this where SpaceX
- 8:24and NASA are working together, low earth orbit, they can try
- 8:27different configurations for the long term, Mars transport
- 8:33because you could have two star ships docked together, what
- 8:36they're going to be doing with the refueling of the tanker is
- 8:39for the art of his missions. Instead of a tanker you have
- 8:41just another Starship where people can Load between the
- 8:45Starships there's a port and there could be a section where
- 8:48it's like a living section. Whereas just your workout is
- 8:52sleep, there's maybe some entertainment, there's big
- 8:55windows and also there could be a variant where it's just cargo
- 8:59where there's just a touch like so much food and you're going to
- 9:02have to bring a lot of water to Mars or even to low earth orbit.
- 9:06So sure, there's a possibility that's what they're going to be
- 9:10working on as well. It is going to take wish you
- 9:12were to happen really fast. But space transport, space,
- 9:16technology, engineering and science.
- 9:18All take a long time. So what they're building now,
- 9:21maybe 50 years from now will see the ultimate gain of we're going
- 9:27to be taking normal trips to Mars.
- 9:30There's going to be this numerous trips per year to get
- 9:33to Mars and I believe the next The closest of Mars is going to
- 9:39be the Earth is going to be 20 24.
- 9:42So maybe if Starship gets to orbit this year and then maybe
- 9:48next year. Who knows?
- 9:49Maybe they're going to start trying to get to Mars.
- 9:52Just shoot a Starship. Yeah, shooter Starship without
- 9:56any intention of Landing it. Yeah.
- 9:58It just try to get into Mars orbit, or at least use the orbit
- 10:02slow you down, so you could land if you wanted to.
- 10:04Yep, obviously, that's the hardest part about.
- 10:07Any trip to Mars is making sure you hit the right spot so you
- 10:10don't burn up in the atmosphere or get slingshotted out into
- 10:13space bounce off the atmosphere, so it's very difficult to do and
- 10:19that's where the majority of sort of things being shot at
- 10:23Mars fail. So it's, they're going to enough
- 10:26practice that for sure. Yeah, right now, the practicing
- 10:29getting thing to orbit around Earth which is comparatively way
- 10:33easier. So it's going to take some time
- 10:38and some, yeah, who knows? Who knows.
- 10:41We'll see what happens with the next star, ship launched to see
- 10:44whether they actually get to orbit and there's no
- 10:46complications and destroy the pad.
- 10:48And if that all goes to plan, then yeah I could potentially
- 10:53see them trying to stretch themselves.
- 10:55Obviously SpaceX is iterative design company and they're not
- 11:00afraid to say. Okay, we did it.
- 11:02Let's move on ship 15 was the first one to land.
- 11:05They didn't bother. Al and another one.
- 11:07Is that good? Let's move on.
- 11:10Yeah I could see them getting to orbit and saying good let's move
- 11:13on I can see that too. Yeah, and saying okay we made
- 11:18the orbit. Now we need a tanker up there.
- 11:20Let's do that. Okay, now that's done.
- 11:22We don't need to do it a hundred times before they put people in
- 11:25this Starship. They'll have to do it a hundred
- 11:27times, but if they're just doing test, they're going to be happy
- 11:30with what they got and move on to the next challenge.
- 11:33Yeah, and even between the first launched in this next launch,
- 11:37it's coming up, they switched, I think it, I think, Ilan said,
- 11:41hundreds of things, maybe a thousand things, something like
- 11:44that between the last Starship and a super heavy.
- 11:48And the next one that's going up.
- 11:50And one of the most important things is that it going to be
- 11:52doing hot staging between the booster in the ship, which is a
- 11:58sold on that just yet but we'll see how it goes.
- 12:01Yeah, that seems like an incredible feat.
- 12:03I don't. See that a lot of Russian
- 12:05spacecraft have done that in the past and it seems to be pretty
- 12:08pretty well documented, but I think SpaceX could pull it off.
- 12:12I don't know if it's going to work this time.
- 12:13It's the first trial and error. Exactly right.
- 12:16This is all trial. This is all to be done to be
- 12:19determined. They'll have to they'll figure
- 12:21it out. It's not impossible to do just a
- 12:23matter of figuring out how to make their current build sustain
- 12:29that sort of blast as as they separate.
- 12:34Yeah obviously I'll need some way to exhaust the flame as it
- 12:37comes out but also the top the Dome of the the boosters going
- 12:41to have to withstand the all those engines lighting as well.
- 12:46Yeah, I don't understand how they're going to do it.
- 12:47I don't really understand that technology that much but it
- 12:50seems like they have to reinforce like it's a stainless
- 12:54steel Dome on this thing. So they have three or six
- 12:57something? Yes.
- 12:59Yeah. It's not a thick stainless steel
- 13:00either. Plus they want to reuse these
- 13:03100. James.
- 13:04Yeah. So the really can't be any
- 13:06damage from this separation for this to be successful.
- 13:10I can't be any damage. It has to be 100% perfect if it
- 13:13starts to wear away from the Heat or there's any damage
- 13:17whatsoever, then it's unsuccessful.
- 13:19It's not going to be a long-term solution to have to fix it.
- 13:22So do you think this could be something like a for lack of a
- 13:25better term up Puck that they put on top of the booster?
- 13:28And they could replace it if needed.
- 13:29So it's not going to be a might not be 100% reusable, right?
- 13:34Way. But they could just use it.
- 13:36It's just for that one time. And then the next hamster is
- 13:39going to have a different pocket on it and they could do
- 13:42something like the heat tiles. Yeah they've got on the outside
- 13:45of the ship. They could plaster those over
- 13:47the top of the booster and use those as an abrading.
- 13:52Replaceable part. Yeah.
- 13:54That but it would take some time to root inspect those every time
- 13:58that it lands. Yeah, that's true.
- 13:59It's similar to the Space Shuttle.
- 14:01So yeah, I think the I think we're going to see some wild
- 14:05stuff in this next Lodge but yeah the NASA and SpaceX
- 14:10collaboration here. With this space station is going
- 14:13to be a huge thing. In the funny thing is NASA is a
- 14:16government agency and for forever.
- 14:20They've been using taxpayers money.
- 14:21To do things like this experiments like this, and fill
- 14:25McAllister, the director of commercial space flight.
- 14:28At Nasa said, it is great to see companies invest their own
- 14:31Capital toward Innovative commercial space capabilities.
- 14:34We've seen how these types of Partnerships benefit both the
- 14:37private sector and NASA. So basically they're saying hey
- 14:41all of you companies out here, blue, origin, Northrop, Grumman,
- 14:45Sierra space SpaceX, special Aerospace Services, think
- 14:49orbital and fast space. You spend your money.
- 14:52You figure this out and then we're going to partner with you
- 14:55to use your technology in the future.
- 14:57We're going to pay for it, but you have to figure it out.
- 14:59Like you're going to have to have a minimum viable product,
- 15:02MVP. So we can use it for our own
- 15:05services for the future, whether that's a space station with
- 15:08SpaceX or if they're going to be using it.
- 15:10Of course, for hls and further missions but it's different than
- 15:16what it used to be for the longest time.
- 15:18It's very different. Absolutely.
- 15:20And it's really as a great solution Ian NASA puts so much
- 15:24money and effort into developing things like the SLS and
- 15:29everything that came before it a shuttle and what not to have
- 15:34commercial companies, do all that research development and
- 15:37testing and then just pay them a bunch of money at the end
- 15:42ordering it as a sort of seed money.
- 15:44It's just so much easier for everybody as far as the
- 15:47government is concerned. And a lot less risk as well.
- 15:53Get your hand off that risk to private companies.
- 15:57Absolutely. It leaves so much more so much
- 16:00more room for NASA to play around with different ideas to.
- 16:03They don't have to stick with one thing, like the SLS.
- 16:06They're stuck with the SLS. They can't really diverge from
- 16:09that. And say, we're going to stop
- 16:11doing that because Starship works.
- 16:13Now, they have a contract, there are going to be building these
- 16:16SLS rockets for the foreseeable future and what Starship,
- 16:21surpasses the SLS and Technology.
- 16:23He and wait to orbit ratio to weight ratio to orbit, but they
- 16:28don't care because they have these contracts in place with
- 16:30Boeing and other companies. Northrop, Grumman Etc to build
- 16:33these SLS rockets and they can't change it.
- 16:38You know what I really like about the Condors commercial
- 16:41Partnerships is that someone would like SpaceX is going to
- 16:45pay for their materials. What they should be paying as
- 16:49opposed to what NASA pays for materials.
- 16:51A screw NASA. Is paying for a screw might cost
- 16:54them, a hundred dollars of screw because the companies that are
- 16:57selling them, that's grooving, know that they can get away with
- 16:59it. Whereas spacex's hang, we're not
- 17:02paying that, will build a machine and make these for a
- 17:05dime apiece. If that's what you're going to
- 17:07bother charging us, it's a much more efficient from an economic
- 17:11standpoint, to have the commercial Partners, take care
- 17:15of all the stuff because they're not going to get overcharge the
- 17:18way. NASA has traditionally been
- 17:20overcharged Yeah, I think that's an important step forward for
- 17:24NASA, and a important step forward for these companies.
- 17:26Because not only do they get money for these initial projects
- 17:30but they can add things onto it eventually.
- 17:33So, SpaceX could say okay we have the Starship.
- 17:36We have a crew Starship but we can also make a space station
- 17:39Starship. Would you be interested in this
- 17:42space station NASA could be like yeah, we like that idea.
- 17:45That's a great idea. We're going to give you the
- 17:48money for it even if it's just a concept right now.
- 17:51But Since SpaceX brought it to them in a capability, it like in
- 17:55the capacity of a like a commercial project, then they're
- 18:00going to paint like SpaceX is going to pay for it and then
- 18:02NASA will pay them whatever SpaceX wants to charge them.
- 18:07So for sure, I think it's going to be a huge boost to the low
- 18:12earth orbit economy but also the economy of these space
- 18:15exploration as well. Yeah, and keep in mind, as well
- 18:19as SpaceX has never had any interest in space stations.
- 18:23Well, yeah, a little bit beyond Starling.
- 18:26So this that would be a change of tune and would have to come
- 18:29with a, obviously a big check behind it for them to do
- 18:31something like that, or they see some benefit in having a station
- 18:35in orbit, and they're willing to work with NASA to get one does,
- 18:38is it a good starting off point for a mission to Mars or
- 18:42something like that? To have all the tankers take,
- 18:45all their fuel there and then you doc a ship?
- 18:47And launcher from there, they have to determine whether that
- 18:50makes sense or not. Yeah, I guess the tankers in
- 18:54space, will eventually resemble or serve the same purpose as
- 18:59that space station, right? Just having a ship in space.
- 19:02That's gets refueled to refuel another space ship.
- 19:06That's a space station right there.
- 19:09Yeah. Very basic one.
- 19:10Yeah. - the people yeah. But yeah.
- 19:13I also think that if SpaceX does make some sort of space station,
- 19:18out of the Starship, they can charge rent to NASA and that
- 19:21could be recurring income for space exploration.
- 19:23X. If they can see the ROI on a
- 19:25Starship that's in orbit and they can make x amount of
- 19:28dollars per year from it to continue development of better,
- 19:32Starships, Mars Starships, ground systems infrastructure,
- 19:37whatever. If it's going to pay for part of
- 19:40the development of these new systems or even start link, then
- 19:43that might be something that would be interested in.
- 19:46Is it seems? I wouldn't say free money
- 19:48because they still have to have people manning the systems and
- 19:51fixing up the ships and stuff. as time goes by but once the,
- 19:56once the ships are decommissioned, they could in
- 20:00theory outfit, the ships with I know, like I wouldn't, I don't
- 20:05want to say plug and play, but it could be a very
- 20:07compartmentalized systems that they could take out of one
- 20:10Starship and put into a newer Starship.
- 20:13And it could be really easy to transfer those things because
- 20:16the docking mechanisms for the hls Starship, it's pretty big.
- 20:21If you think about the docking, the elevator systems is pretty
- 20:26big, so maybe that could be as part of the docking system, it
- 20:28could be big enough that they could transfer a people and be
- 20:32supplies from one Starship to Other.
- 20:34So decommissioned, one, take it back down to earth refurb, it do
- 20:38whatever you got to do and then upgrade your Starship to a new
- 20:41one. And it seems like you could have
- 20:44a, you can have a space station forever in that case, for sure,
- 20:47the beauty of Starship has from day one has been its cost.
- 20:51Effectiveness, it's extremely relatively extremely cheap to
- 20:55make. And two, they could put up
- 20:59another one on a moment's notice at some point, right?
- 21:02Replace a part that of a ship that is malfunctioning can bring
- 21:05it back down. What?
- 21:06Not, as you say before, there's a lot of other companies that
- 21:10are involved in this partnership with NASA.
- 21:12So, it's Subspace X is just one part of that.
- 21:15There's all kinds of ship of companies that would be doing
- 21:17similar things with them and for them.
- 21:19Yeah, blue origin. The project the blue origin is
- 21:21going to be used for with as NASA collaboration is integrated
- 21:25commercial space transportation. Patient capability than assure,
- 21:28safe affordable and high frequency.
- 21:29U.s. access to orbit for crew and other missions that does.
- 21:34Does that mean that they're going to be using a rocket to
- 21:36get to low earth. Orbit the commercial space.
- 21:39Transportation is the taxi as sounds like it.
- 21:42Yeah. Or at least one of the taxes.
- 21:44Yeah, sure. And nothing.
- 21:46It really says, nothing else says other missions.
- 21:49Whatever that means, but it doesn't really give them
- 21:52anything else. There's no other harder piece of
- 21:54this future, NASA. A space that they get out of
- 21:58this. You're ferrying people back and
- 22:01forth. Yeah, see our space.
- 22:04It is looks similarly, to develop Sierra's got Sierra gets
- 22:08the in space superstructure as well.
- 22:10They're actually primed for that next Generation space station.
- 22:15So they get the space transportation in spaced
- 22:18infrastructure and tailored space facilities to provide a
- 22:22human or a presence in orbit. They are really the space
- 22:26station provided that they can meet all of their deadlines.
- 22:29And what I'm be honest at that point SpaceX, seems like they're
- 22:32in the wings. Okay, Sierra.
- 22:34Can't provide what they need and they could work together.
- 22:37This is collaborative efforts to assess.
- 22:39So any one of these everything that goes up into space, needs
- 22:42to work with together. Yeah.
- 22:43Universal locks and Universal list and Universal that you
- 22:47can't have anything that is proprietary when you're when you
- 22:49talk about NASA and space it's called got to work together.
- 22:52Yeah. So one that's very interesting.
- 22:54Its vast and this is some cool wording collaborating with NASA
- 22:59on Technologies and operations required for its microgravity
- 23:02and Vishal gravity stations includes the Haven one, which
- 23:06will provide a microgravity environment, for career research
- 23:09and in space manufacturing, the first crewed mission called vast
- 23:12want to the platform development activities, first, larger space
- 23:15station modules. Also take place out of the space
- 23:17act agreement. So artificial gravity stations
- 23:21pretty sci-fi if you ask me, that's very sci-fi, that's
- 23:26rotating stations for sure. Yeah.
- 23:28And that'll take it would be able to do yours.
- 23:30Yeah, it'll be cool. They're gonna have to, I think,
- 23:33What they'll do is they'll set up a smaller.
- 23:36Version of we can have to incrementally, send up, smaller,
- 23:40medium, large, Etc, anti-gravity, artificial not
- 23:44anti, but artificial gravity stations.
- 23:46Anti-gravity would be wild but artificial gravity, station
- 23:50proof of concept is one of the first things, right?
- 23:52You got to get up there and prove that it's going to work
- 23:54in. It's going to be able to be
- 23:56stable and and what do people how do people react in that
- 24:00situation? We don't actually know.
- 24:02I can guess based on experience of we've done on Earth was
- 24:05spinning people around. The circle.
- 24:07But how long term effects of somebody being spun and just
- 24:12observing around them, right? This part of the station is
- 24:15being slower than that, part of the station, and it's all
- 24:18curved. And how does that affect
- 24:19somebody? Yeah.
- 24:21Curious to see. Yeah.
- 24:23And they're going to be a go ahead go.
- 24:24No, please. Alright, believe they're going
- 24:26to be using Starship as a transportation system.
- 24:29For the vast one as well for the Haven one.
- 24:32So to get it up there. Yeah.
- 24:34Yes. They're going to be using a I
- 24:36believe this Falcon 9. Yeah.
- 24:39So they can be doing the Haven one of the Falcon 9 and then I
- 24:42can be using the Starship eventually to so it's pretty
- 24:46cool. They're out of I'll get be
- 24:47collaborating with each other and also NASA.
- 24:49So it's got to be it's got that's going to happen in 2025.
- 24:53So yeah, August 20, 25. Apparently that's going to be
- 24:58pretty soon. Yeah, couple years from now.
- 25:02Yeah. And the other ones we haven't
- 25:04talked about are the ones that kind of interest me quite a bit
- 25:07Northrop, Grumman and space Aerospace Services.
- 25:10Special are Pacers Aerospace services and think orbital are
- 25:14all on the robotic side of things, that's getting things up
- 25:17there to build stations in to manufacture things.
- 25:21And not put people in danger of getting lost in space or being
- 25:25subject to being out in space with the radiation whatnot.
- 25:28So, it's, I'd like that side of it as well.
- 25:31Curious just to See how that develops so that the Northrop
- 25:35Grumman the persistent platform to ride autonomous and robotic
- 25:39capabilities for commercial science research and
- 25:42Manufacturing capabilities and low earth orbit, the
- 25:45manufacturing capabilities part of that is pretty cool.
- 25:48I'm interested to see what they do if they're going to 3D print
- 25:52things or if they're going to be doing this, take parts from
- 25:55Earth like to say, beams and trusses and pieces and then put
- 26:00them together, robotically, I With the actual mission is, they
- 26:03don't have any more information about it but it seems like that
- 26:06would be something that they could do up there as many
- 26:08manufacture parts of a station or parts of something with
- 26:13robot. Yeah, that's the dream.
- 26:14We always see, right? We always see in the future of
- 26:16the Sci-Fi things are being built right in space.
- 26:19You've got your sort of space dock where the ship is being
- 26:22built in place up and space around in Earth's orbit and that
- 26:26would be cool to see something. I was when I was a kid, I was
- 26:28really fascinated by space welding where you put two pieces
- 26:32of of Steel together that are perfectly flat and as soon as
- 26:37they go together, there's nothing stopping them from
- 26:39joining. So it's a weld that just happens
- 26:42because there the molecules just passed from one piece of metal
- 26:45to the other. Oh wow, there's nothing stopping
- 26:47them. There's no there's no Oxygen.
- 26:49There's nothing in the way, these molecules just passing
- 26:52from one piece to the next and the joins pretty cool.
- 26:55Like might have that wrong. It's been a long time since I
- 26:57looked into that, but that was one thing when I was a kid, it
- 27:00was really cool. That would be wild.
- 27:03That would open up so many, so many doors to stations and
- 27:08architecture and space. That's cool.
- 27:10That's really cool. I never, I need even know about
- 27:12that space welding after look into that.
- 27:14That's cool. I'm going to look it up again to
- 27:16I could be totally wrong via completely ridiculed but that's
- 27:20okay. Leave a kid, leave it in the
- 27:22comments people. Yeah, I think we've touched on
- 27:27everything here. Is there any?
- 27:28Are there any other companies you'd like to talk about?
- 27:31And as we talked about Sierra space but you don't get to talk
- 27:34about special Aerospace Services much but they all do the same
- 27:37kind of thing. Special airspace Services is
- 27:39taught is looking at autonomous maneuvering units, astronaut
- 27:43assistance units. So it's all servicing the
- 27:46station outside helping astronauts as well as perhaps
- 27:50doing autonomous work as well to keep things running.
- 27:52Keep it serviced if somebody drops a hammer if this thing can
- 27:56go and get it rather than astronaut having to risk
- 27:59something or it being one more piece of space junk, maybe
- 28:02they're out there collecting that stuff as well.
- 28:04That would be really cool to see that would be.
- 28:06Yeah. And then think orbital similar
- 28:10to just another piece of a space station but they do the orbital
- 28:13platforms and research manufacturing astronaut missions
- 28:17that sort of thing. So it's building stuff in space.
- 28:20Building more things on there. So there's the, the autonomous
- 28:24Builders if you will. This is really cool to see and
- 28:28it'll be interesting to see how these all work together as well.
- 28:31Can they can blue origin and SpaceX sit down in the same room
- 28:34and figure out the best way to move Humanity forward.
- 28:38Wouldn't that be nice? That would be really cool.
- 28:41I think all of these companies working together, building
- 28:43platforms, and building stations, and sending things,
- 28:47they're going to be working together in buying trips to
- 28:50space from different companies, blue origin, or through SpaceX
- 28:55or through Sierra space. If they need to send something
- 28:57up, there, they're going to be working together to send part of
- 29:00there. Sent part of their space station
- 29:03or part of part of their platforms up there.
- 29:06So it'll be an interesting time for all of these companies to
- 29:10work together and also to work with NASA, and they're going to
- 29:14be using NASA's technology. They're going to be using NASA's
- 29:17capabilities to innovate in space.
- 29:20And all of the stuff that NASA has learned throughout their
- 29:24time with the International Space Station, and through their
- 29:26time with the Apollo programs in the space shuttle, all of that,
- 29:30all of these companies, You can use that to better their
- 29:33platforms to so it's going to be really cool, very exciting.
- 29:37Yeah, I hope that's the next 20 or 30 years is going to be very
- 29:39interesting space field and hopefully Humanity still around
- 29:43to take advantage of it. Yeah, I think we will be.
- 29:46I think there's we're not going to stop.
- 29:48I think this is going to be a really cool.
- 29:50Interesting time. This is the stuff that I dreamed
- 29:51of when I was a kid like for sure like this it's finally
- 29:55coming true that we're going to people are going to start
- 29:57building their own space stations, like companies, going
- 29:59to start building their own Private space stations, who
- 30:02knows eventually will be to the point where there's going to be
- 30:06a private mission to another star system, like Prometheus or
- 30:10something like that, show the movie Prometheus, except maybe
- 30:13they won't be bringing DNA down to earth, and dumping it into a
- 30:17river. Be a little bit different, but
- 30:20it's going to it's going to be wild in the next 20. 30 years.
- 30:23What happens up there because not only is it spacex's all
- 30:26these other companies that want to make money and they get they
- 30:29make billions of dollars per year from Um NASA and also from
- 30:32each other so it's going to be cool.
- 30:34Can't wait to see it happen. Yes.
