Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Practicing these tools and learning these tools.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Was a gift that.
- 0:07Speaker 1: I will cherish for the rest of my life, and
- 0:10Speaker 1: I hope other parents will cherish it because we are
- 0:16Speaker 1: in a society where we don't know how to listen,
- 0:18Speaker 1: and we want to speak over people and we want
- 0:21Speaker 1: to tell them what they need to do.
- 0:23Speaker 2: And so, you know, letting go controls caution.
- 0:27Speaker 3: When you control, you keep somebody and check, you limit
- 0:33Speaker 3: their potential, You regulate their freedom, and you restrain their
- 0:40Speaker 3: ability to make independent choices and pursue their own goals.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Welcome to parents talk.
- 0:50Speaker 4: We believe in nurturing strong and competent kids today rather
- 0:56Speaker 4: than fixing broken adults.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Too much.
- 1:02Speaker 2: We've been so programmed to control.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And I see a lot of people experiencing anxiety and
- 1:09Speaker 1: experiencing depression. They feel that way because they can't control
- 1:13Speaker 1: the outcome.
- 1:16Speaker 4: That filters down to the kids, because when you try
- 1:20Speaker 4: to control everything, they never get to learn how to
- 1:24Speaker 4: be themselves.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I have a whole new experience with my son, who
- 1:29Speaker 1: is a senior now. All my other children are adults.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I have two grand babies, but I feel like I
- 1:38Speaker 1: was given a second chance with my last one to
- 1:42Speaker 1: start shifting the way I was living, or you should
- 1:46Speaker 1: have did this, or when he didn't bring home grades
- 1:48Speaker 1: that weren't to my expectations. It was just like, okay,
- 1:52Speaker 1: well this is not going to fall on me. I'm
- 1:55Speaker 1: going to leave this in your hands and that's where
- 1:58Speaker 1: it's going to be at. And yeah, I'm not going
- 2:02Speaker 1: to be like those other parents walking out of parent conferences.
- 2:05Speaker 2: And like what's wrong with you? Why didn't you do this?
- 2:08Speaker 1: And you know, and so you realize, like just those
- 2:11Speaker 1: gestures are traumatic because we start feeling like we're failures.
- 2:17Speaker 1: We start feeling like we're not good enough and how
- 2:21Speaker 1: can I please my mom? So we end up, you know,
- 2:25Speaker 1: attaching ourselves to drugs.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Alcohol, you know, foods.
- 2:29Speaker 1: It doesn't matter, it doesn't matter what it is. We
- 2:32Speaker 1: just find something to comfort us.
- 2:35Speaker 4: They break the cycle.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, Yes.
- 2:39Speaker 4: The greatest gift my mom ever gave me. And I
- 2:42Speaker 4: didn't realize that at the time. I wanted to join
- 2:45Speaker 4: the Navy when I was seventeen and she wouldn't sign
- 2:48Speaker 4: the papers. She made me wait till I was eighteen,
- 2:52Speaker 4: but she never told me not to, even though it
- 2:55Speaker 4: hurt her deeply when I she cried when the recruiter
- 2:59Speaker 4: came and took away, but she wanted it to be
- 3:04Speaker 4: my choice. It is gift my mother taught me was
- 3:09Speaker 4: to not follow the crowd, even though I really wanted
- 3:16Speaker 4: to follow the crowd. Up until I was fifty years old,
- 3:22Speaker 4: I was trying to fit in everywhere. But by not
- 3:26Speaker 4: letting me go to boot camp when all my friends were,
- 3:30Speaker 4: she gave me that time to think it is just
- 3:33Speaker 4: something I really wanted to do. And then when I
- 3:36Speaker 4: was of legal age, I made my own choice.
- 3:41Speaker 1: We can still give children at a younger age a choice, yes,
- 3:45Speaker 1: but also limit it.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I also see I also see a lot of in
- 3:50Speaker 1: society where we make a lot of excuses, you know,
- 3:56Speaker 1: Oh I give it to them because they did.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I didn't have it as a child, you know. And
- 4:05Speaker 2: I'm just like, oh my gosh, like this programming that
- 4:08Speaker 2: we have and to say, just like me.
- 4:11Speaker 1: These are part of the one of the courses that
- 4:15Speaker 1: I teach, which is called the Clarity Catalyst Course. It's
- 4:18Speaker 1: an emotional intelligence and mindfulness course, and it takes you
- 4:24Speaker 1: down a road of like every week you're practicing no judgments,
- 4:30Speaker 1: no expectations, just like me. And when we judge somebody,
- 4:34Speaker 1: you remind yourself, oh my god, just like me, And
- 4:38Speaker 1: so that kind of like takes you a step back
- 4:43Speaker 1: of like recognizing that we are just like everybody.
- 4:48Speaker 4: That's the one thing I learned is before I went
- 4:53Speaker 4: through my whole big, long change journey, I've used to
- 4:58Speaker 4: get annoyed at people so and then I get frustrated
- 5:01Speaker 4: and angry, and I could feel the tension inside of me,
- 5:05Speaker 4: and I know I was that crazy driver, you know,
- 5:09Speaker 4: people looking at me like, oh my god, what's going
- 5:12Speaker 4: on in that car? And then when I finally realized
- 5:18Speaker 4: that we're all just trying to lead our lives. We're
- 5:21Speaker 4: all just trying to do what we have to do.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Some people make the wrong decisions in doing it, but
- 5:27Speaker 4: that's their learning experience. Once I learned that, my whole
- 5:33Speaker 4: demeanor changed and I am just a happier, calmer person. Now.
- 5:42Speaker 4: When I look at parents, like in the grocery store,
- 5:46Speaker 4: and I see them getting frustrated and angry with their children,
- 5:53Speaker 4: I think it's time for them to reflect on why
- 5:57Speaker 4: is their child acting that way? Is it's something they
- 6:02Speaker 4: learned something, because the children if they don't know what's
- 6:06Speaker 4: going on, and as you know from the you know,
- 6:10Speaker 4: birth until five years old. The children feel your energy.
- 6:18Speaker 4: So if your child is acting out, even if you
- 6:22Speaker 4: look how cool and collected on the outside, your child
- 6:27Speaker 4: is feeling your energy. Just like when I was in
- 6:31Speaker 4: the car getting angry at the world, the world felt
- 6:35Speaker 4: my negative energy, which attracted more negative energy to me.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I got to experience this firsthand with my grandkids. My
- 6:51Speaker 1: daughter ended up having two, two of them back to back,
- 6:54Speaker 1: just like me, same age, young nineteen, got married yo,
- 7:00Speaker 1: and I had them here and my granddaughter was crying
- 7:04Speaker 1: and all.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Of a sudden, I was laying down watching TV and
- 7:07Speaker 2: I was like, Dandy, stop your crying.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And I like, I had this voice of wisdom, like
- 7:15Speaker 1: tell me, like why are you yelling at her? And so,
- 7:20Speaker 1: you know, social media and things that I watch play
- 7:24Speaker 1: a big role in me recognizing.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Like I've filtered out a lot of my life.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I don't watch the news, I don't listen, I don't
- 7:33Speaker 1: follow people who are posting negative stuff or self disjudgment.
- 7:39Speaker 2: So I really filter out, and.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I'm watching things that inspire me, following people that inspire me,
- 7:47Speaker 1: and so music that inspires me.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Everything.
- 7:50Speaker 4: We hope we inspired you to change the way you
- 7:54Speaker 4: think you just change one thought. How will you inspire
