- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: Hello everyone and welcome to the Adventure Sports podcast.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is Caleb.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: In today's revisited episode, Mason interviews Damien Rider.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: As we enter into road tripping season here in the Northern Hemisphere, I thought it would be fun to play this episode.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's about Damian traveling the 2,500 mile route 66 on a skateboard, which just sounds wild to me.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: In addition to that, he also talks about a 500 mile solo paddle, mattress marathon, and a 3 ton truck push.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: Not to mention a 7500 foot hot air balloon jump.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: and lots more.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: This episode's packed full of fun and meaning.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you enjoy it.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: Here's Mason.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_02]: But welcome to the show, Damien, how you doing?
- 1:12[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I'm good mate and good thanks for thanks for having.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so tell us, you know, you're in Tennessee right now.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: Tell us what you're doing in Tennessee.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_02]: By the sound of your accent, you're not from Tennessee.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_04]: Now, just a little out just a little outside the time.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_04]: So you just a little south or a little place called Australia, there you go, understand.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, from down under and come over this way, sort of a couple of years ago, sort of gone back and forth.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_04]: And then sort of gone back and forth from Mexico to here, like to learn Mexico, like a trouble down there a little bit and I do some training on train some.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_04]: young local kids in, you know, sort of poor communities, how to box and sort of pour them out that way a little bit.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_04]: And run some retreats and stuff down there, but I'd focus on my own training and freediving in the snow days and stuff like that down there.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, it's good like the world's starting to open up again.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, the travel, the adventure, the stream sports, and everything is starting to pop open again.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_04]: So, which has been good and which is, yeah, what's drawn me to,
- 2:18[SPEAKER_04]: to hearing Memphis, where I'm actually in Nashville for a couple of days just sort of hanging out, doing some stuff, but sort of by seeing Memphis while I did this up and coming event anyway.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_02]: Well, tell us about the up and coming event.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: It involves a hot air balloon.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: I want to hear what are you got going on?
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: How are you feel about it when it's going to be?
- 2:39[SPEAKER_04]: So I want them going to be doing in 10 days from today, actually.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_04]: Right over the weekend, there's a hot air balloon jamboree festival put on by a bluff city balloons.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_04]: On the Friday night, they've got a private function, they're called Special Knife, it's Special Kids.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_04]: They're going to have 500 special needs kids and their families there for free night and light up the balloons at night and give little pivot rides and other sort of carnival activities that better go on on there.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to have two custom-made jumpsuits that I guess are on like a modern-day evil can evil type of suits.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_04]: So they're white with some blue and red and some stars on them and I'm going to have them on display.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_04]: So these 500 kids can come up and write and draw and sign on both the suits that I'm going to wear on the following days on the Saturday and Sunday.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_04]: So then on the Saturday at 5 am, I'm going to climb up on top of our
- 3:38[SPEAKER_04]: hot air balloon.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_04]: So not in the bars, get up on top of the envelope and raise up to an altitude that no one's really gone before, standing on top of the hot air balloon, I guess.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_04]: And then once I reach that maximum altitude, I'll just walk off, step off the edge and squad right back down to the edge.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_04]: So that's kind of the plan for the Saturday.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_04]: And then on Sunday,
- 4:04[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to go up again with about 30 balloons in the morning for a mass ascension and just go up again and cruise along.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_04]: So they'll end up here about 3 to 4,000 feet or cruise along for you know, 45 minutes sort of thing flying along with them.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_04]: So we're all the other balloons can see what's going on.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_04]: And then that night, we'll go up again.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_04]: I was a bit of an activity for the kids and going like, well, the blooms are sort of lighten up and everything and 30 blooms are lighten up, I'll be standing up on top of one of those again.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_04]: So, yep.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_04]: So, I'm pretty excited about it.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_04]: It's different than the other sort of adventures sports that I've done.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_04]: You know, most of in the last six years, I've been altering endurance events on multi-day endurance events.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_04]: So, this has taken me back to more extreme sports and it's something new for me.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_04]: to do this one which is which was interesting as well and just really like the process of what I need to go through to be comfortable to be able to do that part of this little challenge that I've got coming up on sale.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: to say that your your challenges were a little different than this is is an understatement.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they've been different from each other just as much as they are different from this.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's all begs a question on how you got into this.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: What do you do in this for?
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: This is, uh, this is some wild stuff man.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_02]: So, um, that's what you got coming up absolutely most, most, you know, soonest, but take us back to to what started this all off.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_02]: I know
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: Why do you do these things?
- 5:45[SPEAKER_04]: So I went through like a pretty violent childhood for ages of six or nine, basically like lived on streets and off and on and you know, that sort of forced me into skateboarding really and just anything to keep me out of the house.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_04]: I started skating at a young age and you know, I just skated all day and do everything so I didn't have to really go home
- 6:08[SPEAKER_04]: most of the times I was sleeping out in storm drains that I would skate or once, you know, skate ramps and parks to get build on sort of spend my nights there, really just sort of skate all day and just sleep under the ramps or whatever.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_04]: And so I've always gone into that sort of things, pushing the limits and just had a default for what I need to do for as part of survival, I guess, but you know, it was something that was good and it was ingrained into me.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_04]: I haven't really appreciated it until the same sort of recent years, you know, like I've gone off the rails off and on most of my life and but all the way sort of push limits and always going back to sports and you know don't james and had like a little fighting career and stuff like that and travel the world like training in different disciplines.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_04]: But always come back to sport, but it's just still trying to find my place and what was going on and trying to make sense, I guess, of what happened to me when I was younger and while I was just borrowing out of control all the time.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_04]: And I knew I had more in me, but it was just a matter of sort of search and for the advances and the ways that people were telling me I should go to, you know, the pills, the doctors, the therapists and all that, that just sort of won't come there for me.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_04]: so many times, you can go to so many people and without having a sustainable result, you know.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, life got pretty dark for me, and then about six years ago, I just kind of thought, you know, what I'm just tobacco with everyone else, you know, whatever they're saying and how I should live and what I should be and what I should do and how I should work and how I should dress and all that sort of stuff.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_04]: So, I kind of just went back to my own
- 8:01[SPEAKER_04]: to do it myself, you know, so I pretty much was brightened and stuff all the way back down to my rural foundations and built myself the way the eye knew I should be built and went back to, you know, the extreme sports and pushing the limits and being an athlete again, you know?
- 8:17[SPEAKER_04]: And that was my prime focus and that's how I knew I was gonna get stronger and I got back in the water and I was surfing again and picked up a new sport of paddleboarding, I truly wanted to emerge myself in the ocean, so I knew I had some healing
- 8:30[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it does so much good for people but it hadn't really been explained why.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_04]: So I just really wanted to explore what that was.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_04]: And really have that process, you know, take hold while I was in pain from paddling and negative emotions from the past were coming forward as well.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_04]: Just really being out there and be vulnerable to, you know, the elements in themselves and, you know, what could work would happen to me but leave everything on the shore at the same time.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: And how did that go for you?
- 9:00[SPEAKER_04]: something, you know, pretty special in it.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_04]: And so I sort of thought I would just set myself like a little test.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_04]: So, set myself this test, a paddle from the Gold Coast down to Sydney.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_04]: So it's 500 miles, 800 kilometers.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm January 3rd, 2015, I walked down to my local beach with my
- 9:27[SPEAKER_04]: in the water and how to start a paddling, you know, and that was behind me, no, no, paddling, I think she's my hands in the 17 days after being in the water, I reached my destination.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_04]: But it was something, you know, there was, you know, there wasn't a race, it wasn't any support in the water on the land, or she's been in the water and whatever was thrown at me, you know, turned up about nine months, leading up to it.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_04]: I got myself in the best physical and mental condition I thought I could be in for it.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_04]: And just that paddling value, I could never have imagined how my life would change from that paddle and especially after they five of the paddle and how the lives of other people who are living by careously through my social media posts along the way were seem to be changing as well.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_04]: You know, after 21 shark encounters, knocked off my board, but white point is circled about four times, you know, lost food and water, many broke my neck and unconscious underwater a couple of times, dragged across reefs, everything, you know.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_04]: When no one telling me I had to keep going, it was just me just, you know, my determination to do what I set out to do.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_04]: And then you know, when I pulled into Bondi, I got sucked around into the cave, it was just,
- 10:43[SPEAKER_04]: It's the proudest moment of my life and it's taken me, you know, 38 years at that time to say that I was proud of myself and I've really done something that I was proud of.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: How did it how did the experience change you?
- 10:57[SPEAKER_04]: That's my outlook on life completely, you know, it was embedded into me and I'd gone into extreme sports.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_04]: So I didn't really care if I lived through to the next day because it was embedded in me that today might be a last day.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_04]: So just go.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_04]: go for hell on it, you know, you just do what you've got to do.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_04]: You know, if you got on snowboard and just go off that cliff and go to the backflips, you know, just whatever.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, so I run and you look like one day you had, but after the paddle I saw looking, you know, I look 100 years ahead.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_04]: Every day is like people say, you know, how long are you going to live 100 years?
- 11:30[SPEAKER_04]: Like it was no doubt, you know, I just haven't never have a doubt in it, but I live for now as well.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_04]: but I look for the future of 100 years as well.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_04]: So I live for now, but plan for 100 years.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_04]: So that's going to power them alive, you know?
- 11:44[SPEAKER_04]: But after the paddle, you know, so many things that happened in the water that I couldn't explain and no one else really could.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm because I've been on these spiral self-destructive parts most of my life.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_04]: I really wanted to test out
- 12:02[SPEAKER_04]: If I thought what had happened and I wasn't just going to relapse again, so until I started coming out and say, hey, I was beaten PTSD, I've just done what hundreds of thousands of dollars of therapists couldn't do.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_04]: So I just by doing a paddle for 17 days.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_04]: And so yeah, so I just sort of started testing it out and I did another paddle, I went to Puket and I paddle around and got off
- 12:29[SPEAKER_04]: And to my body completely shut down, I was about three miles from my finish line.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, just completely done, you know, standing there for 20 minutes on the sidewalk, just couldn't move, couldn't even take one step, but I wasn't disappointed though.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_04]: I hadn't finished what I'd said I had to do, I was just, I was more happy because, you know, nothing negative from my past had come up for the first time.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_04]: And I was in excruciating pain, so with physical pain, usually comes emotional pain from your past,
- 13:00[SPEAKER_04]: And it just didn't at all, you know.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_04]: So you weren't had a bit of a win on that.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_04]: And I went back to my partner, I was staying at, in about four hours later, I was able just to hover around just a little bit.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_04]: So I got my mate to drop my back on his scooter and ended up finishing like it was a three-day challenge I had set myself and because I was moved to able to move and you were had to finish it and not have that, not that had that hanging over me.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_04]: that all was moving and I was able to keep going, so I should just keep going.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_04]: So instead of this one, I'm just finished it.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_04]: And again, the people through social media, no one expected me to go back out there, I didn't know I was gonna go back out there, tearing all was in.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_04]: If that event had really changed people's lives, and I remember people saying, it's only three miles to go, he can do it, I can do it.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_02]: that is incredible.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: So awesome that people were inspired by that.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, such a bizarre experience.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: What did that make you want to do next?
- 14:06[SPEAKER_04]: So I knew that again, you know, something pretty special there.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_04]: And so my next challenge was, I'll tell myself, which I guess I'd always, was always going to do like a drop up skateboard and always love muscle cars and history of like root 66 and everything.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_04]: Then in 2016, during 2017, 2016, I started at Chicago and stayed at Route 66 over the way to Santa Monica.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_04]: So that was 56 days, non-stop pushing for about 30 and 15 hours a day.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_04]: And I went through storms and the heat and just pretty much everything along the way.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_04]: and crossing my harvey desert and there's a lot of challenges on the board, there's a lot of challenges off the board as well that I had to deal with.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_04]: But for me, it was just about give myself 56 days to go from point A to point B and that's it, simplify everything and really just think about, you know, what, what did I actually do intuitively in the area,
- 15:22[SPEAKER_04]: used those tools while I was on the skate for the challenges that I was facing and then the next part of it was how do I break this down in simple form for other people to really get grass for a hold off, you know.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_04]: So just like bottled up, how could I bottle this up and share with other people and give them a hope.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_04]: So it was a tough skate.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_04]: It definitely lent out of
- 15:52[SPEAKER_04]: It's no full-scaped and, but yeah, those challenges off the board, like I had it with me and we're filming the documentary, you know, as a, that I was funding for, to be for National Geographic to pick up and, you know, it's cost me a lot of money with them, but the whole time the crew was so negative about, you know, crossing my Harvey Desert and that was the part I was looking forward to the most, you know, I never really,
- 16:18[SPEAKER_04]: being anywhere that hot for so long, doing such a long endurance event.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_04]: And so something I really wanted to look forward while I was looking forward to, I really wanted to test myself with them.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_04]: That whole time they're just like, you're gonna die, you can't do it.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_04]: It's impossible, some would've done it before.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_04]: You have to die like every day.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_04]: And like we're not 40 days until we get there, just like, this one's true today.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_04]: So they, you know,
- 16:47[SPEAKER_04]: And then I finally just had enough of those two days before I was going to do the skate across my Harvey Sudden Harvey and I ended up just having to make the choice of throwing the film away and just fired my crew and got a lot of transport back to LAX and flew them all back to Australia and just continued to skate myself and you know, it wasn't an
- 17:16[SPEAKER_04]: You know I could do it and you know I just didn't need that extra negativity because I knew how tough it was going to be.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_04]: So the part they thought I was going to die on and I could only stay between 8 to 10 miles a day or so over a heap, I ended up skating 180 miles in 24 hours and on stop.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_04]: And I got through to the barstone and when I reached on stopping barstone was because there was fires in the California Hills from one of the Rick 66
- 17:44[SPEAKER_04]: on heel catching fire from like teaching fire and the whole place is going down what lit up the whole California heels.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_04]: So I had to wait a night and then get up the next morning and uh, I'd bite baths mask so I could keep on skating through.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_04]: So I was scattered down the California heels while I was still sort of on fire and then when in the sand beneath and and then scattered my other way through to Santa Monica.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_04]: So that was uh, I have a bit
- 18:13[SPEAKER_04]: They were pushed along for me and, you know, I gained, you know, something I've always wanted to be about.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_04]: I just had a lot of revelations on there and just really found out all of the things.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_04]: I made them up creating an evolved form of breath work and meditation called one breath meditation.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_04]: I wrote a book on it and stuff and started to put that out also.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_04]: But then that's back to Australian.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_04]: I'm still kept testing and circling pushing the limits and finding out, you know,
- 18:43[SPEAKER_04]: different disciplines, you know, like, and that's why I like the change, the discipline that I do because every time I change different disciplines means I've got to learn to train my body and my mind in different ways, but also I'm able to see what's common between all of them in the way of training the body and mind also, doesn't matter what, you know, whether I'm
- 19:08[SPEAKER_04]: 120 foot down on the water or, you know, run in the marathon, carry on a mattress or whatever it might be.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_04]: You know, there's always those crosshairs of commonalities that people sort of, I feel people separate in their lives.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_04]: You know, they get over, they work out, they get over one set of challenges.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_04]: When it comes to another part of their life, it's almost like they've got a reef start,
- 19:34[SPEAKER_04]: and work out what those challenges are, even though it's pretty much the same, really, and I think that it's relationship's business, physical sense to solve that.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_02]: Let's take a quick message break in here from the folks that help make this show possible.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_02]: That is plenty of that for now.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get back into the episode.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_04]: So that same mindset that you need to use and that for yourself, so the more you can understand that you can put in the practice in all sides of your life or then, or for me, anyway, it seems to be the easier.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_04]: Things can be, because I'm already practicing it all the time, testing them, I challenge myself for whatever it is, you know?
- 20:14[SPEAKER_04]: So the big challenges for people seem to be a little bit smaller for me and I'm just going into everything with
- 20:25[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think too much about these challenges, I just, I know what purpose, and my intentions behind them, and just kind of pick an event.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_04]: I think would be cool and be able to get the message out there to watch the uni and start that very down and wait till Monday to get started.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_04]: It's in my mind I was in my head there and starting from where I go.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_02]: how do you how do you select what you're going to do next because, you know, paddleboarding to pushing a truck to carrying a mattress as you run a marathon.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_02]: All those things are so random in a lot of ways, but also, you know, you're mind must be constantly thinking about what to do next and how do you decide?
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: How do you choose what to do?
- 21:10[SPEAKER_04]: Odd, really, it just comes down to the message is always the sign that's just
- 21:18[SPEAKER_04]: So that's pretty much how it is.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_04]: So the first one was the paddle in the ocean and the ocean I felt like it healed me and I found my piece so that's why I wanted to share.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_04]: So that was a paddle community surf community and then the Thailand one was mostly running in it.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_04]: So you know running is most successful sport to anyone who's got a pair of runners and start walking around Boko or start running so that got to a wider community and a more of an endurance
- 21:44[SPEAKER_04]: athlete sort of side of things and had marathon runners and the people doing obstacle courses and all that sort of stuff sort of started taking hold and then the skate was about connecting back with the youth and my roots as well so you know the skate drew in in that and then the thing going back to Australia was just you know I wanted to involve the Gold Coast community in the local community with what they've been watching me do over the last few years I have a
- 22:15[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so I set up the other one where I just did a big community event, really, I wrote a ritual bike and then we did that push of the pickup truck and you know, we just started with a few people on that push and people who just jumped down to the cars, who was on the radio, whatever people jumped down the cars, we ended up like 30 people pushing this pickup truck down the road that, you know, everyone knew what it was about and we blocked off the whole main road
- 22:44[SPEAKER_04]: Then we then I did a paddle straight after that and I had this put this big community paddle on and, you know, so it was really, you know, I people still talk about that on the go coast, you know, so really made such a great local impact, which is what I wanted and then marathon.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_04]: Why was that one so tough the mattress marathon because it's just like I Doesn't want like 10 what mate was running it I said or As you should run the marathon is like about 10 days.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_04]: That was something a week out and I was like I don't remember a marathon those did you do it and it's like yeah, I said well, you're doing the full marathon Guess not just the half I said why don't you just do the fool?
- 23:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's wanting you bloody do the fool No, I
- 23:38[SPEAKER_04]: right, right.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_04]: And as soon as I think I'm going to do something, I'm like, my head just goes, what's it?
- 23:44[SPEAKER_04]: How can I do this even harder?
- 23:46[SPEAKER_04]: So I said to him, I was like, what's the, what's the most awkward thing to carry besides life on your shoulders?
- 23:54[SPEAKER_04]: And we're both looking at each other and saying, mattress, no one, when everyone's moving a house, that's a last thing you want to be at that bloody mattress.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_04]: It's starting like, all right, well, that's it.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just going to run an old carrying mattress.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_04]: And I'll have a big sign on it saying, never lay down, never give up.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_04]: And he's like, all right, that may kind of come about, I've got a mattress in day before.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to make the posture to put the writing on the side.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_04]: And then, yeah, run this marathon back.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_04]: I put it like a hole in the middle.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_04]: And I thought I was going to run with it like a supper and put this hole through it and the hole in the middle.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_04]: I thought I'd just hang on the pole on the inside and just run along like I like to stand up paddleboard on and make my arm.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_04]: But because I had not toned train for it, I'd gone about 50 yards to my arm just so I'd blown up like hanging on this 37-pound mattress.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_04]: So I had to just throw it up on my shoulder and I hadn't found it for that either.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_04]: So I just threw these thing up on my shoulder just intuitively, I guess.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_04]: And then
- 24:56[SPEAKER_04]: Just kept on running, but it was, and then just, I'd roll it over to my head, I had this good system where every 22nd of it, I'd roll it over to my head onto the other shoulder, and roll to the other shoulder, and blah, blah, blah.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_04]: And just kept on running down like in this marathon with that.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_04]: Until I got to about 8 miles, 10 miles, I guess.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_04]: And I was just shooting a lot and bolts up my calves and up my hammies and,
- 25:24[SPEAKER_04]: in my glutes, so I just pour in every single step that I was taking.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_04]: I'd have to nurse them along until I could sort of go into a little job again and then they start shooting up again because the problem was, there's on the mid-foot striker with the weight of this mattress and trying to balance the wobbles when it's on my shoulder as well, I had to flat foot run, so I'm using a completely different muscles and I'm used to
- 25:53[SPEAKER_04]: So it was just that it was pretty awkward like and I just didn't stop on you if I stopped that was going to be it like I just had Keep on running so I ended up running the whole thing and I didn't stop doing that six hours I was hooked on me to run it but I got in in time before the cut off time like I even beat some front of that If no, it was carrying this mattress that it was just at the hand it just felt like I was carrying 237 pounds like it was literally just crashing down
- 26:21[SPEAKER_04]: And even though it was only a six hour vane beforehand, you know, I was probably bench pressing the, let's say 240 pound or something.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_04]: I was either the bench press, but after it's locked up enough to have an arrest for a wig and refueling everything, I'll go back to the gym and all was probably lucky to bench like 80 pound.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_04]: like it would just take him so much out of him, just that one event, you know, and it's just there.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_04]: But there's other things that happen on these events, like, I'll get to be tweaked out as well, events like on the run around tiling, like afterwards, because I got a fraud myself to use so hard and for some show, first day, and then just push on myself to imagine nervous system sort of randomly shot.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_04]: So for about seven months, like I'll just be like epic at Matt's like,
- 27:17[SPEAKER_04]: just like a semester and like non-people's day into all that sort of stuff, but afterwards a couldn't count or became dyslexic and I couldn't remember anyone's name and my little toe on my left foot which is numb there's nothing else I could do and just not completely numb uh that was probably numb for about two years.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_04]: So I had to kind of I had to learn how to have to read and count again and remember people's name so all that sort of things are things
- 27:47[SPEAKER_04]: come back on and that's all good, but yeah, just took a little while and just a little bit of a soft training myself to put my nervous system back in back in the body for a little bit, I think.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_02]: unbelievable.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_02]: What a what a great thing to do with a mattress in a marathon.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: Well, well, I want to hear too.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_02]: I know I know you your childhood was very traumatic and that's a big part of your story and a big part of what you do and why and why you do it.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: What happened at the age of 36 or 38 where you decided to do the paddle boarding trip like what happened then of all things.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_02]: Why did you decided to do it then.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_04]: I was living in a city called Melbourne, I just sort of recently gone through the forest that I was married for about a minute.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_04]: And I just, you know, I was pushing myself and I was working hard, I was working for jobs and I was doing everything to make money, I was thinking if I'm just made all this money, then I could have what I wanted and plough a blob, but I couldn't have just been burning in there and because I had more money, I was taking more drugs
- 28:55[SPEAKER_04]: doing the whole stupid stuff at the same time and then it all got too much for me anyway and I ended up having a suicide attempt and then luckily I was fan-locked seconds before flat lining and I was thrown up and everything afterwards and then right at that moment it was gone like a voicemail head just
- 29:18[SPEAKER_04]: It's actually something Mike's wife said to me, you know, she said this one day when I reached out to her to the first person told you about, you know, what is happening to me in the past, you know, she has gone to 10th being said, you're gonna soak you in yourself.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_04]: And as harsh as that one, to the point, you know, that's what's going to ring in my head, this is like a couple of years later, you know, on this, so that's what I did or what I just thought about us, but what do I need to make all this money for?
- 29:46[SPEAKER_04]: and I've seen him right.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_04]: For I've got all the money then I can go back to where I want to live on the goal crews.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_04]: I can start surfing and I can go to the gym and I can train again and I'll see what can I just do that now.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_04]: I don't need a ton of money.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_04]: I've got enough now that I'll just go now.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_04]: So I packed up my car and I left that next day and just drove right to where I needed to be and just got back in the ocean and only
- 30:10[SPEAKER_04]: I just thought about a place where I was felt at most peace and free and left everything on the shore and the warm and that was it.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_04]: I was back on the Gold Coast and the warm waters and just surfing and hanging out with the mates again and just living more of a natural life.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_04]: I thought I should be doing.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_04]: So that was kind of just a side of it and then yeah and then when I picked that paddle boarding and stuff you know I just like to sell myself little challenges instead of just paddle boarding I wanted to have a bit more of a purpose to it and you know it was just about telling people you know to get down the ocean that's held me and then also like there's not I mean that's something to come back now but back then like every six years ago there wasn't too many men talking about
- 30:59[SPEAKER_04]: going through sexual child abuse or anything as well, so, you know, and even it was sort of strange for me to talk about at the start, so I was like, so I put it out then I was like, oh, shit, like I remember the first little clip I did of it, I'm going to make, tell them on the story Oh, we lost.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_04]: I hope people don't look at different, you know, like, you know, how about work?
- 31:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it was people were, look at actually looking at me differently.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_04]: because of how my body language was for the subject and made them hearing about it and got, oh my god, I saw that cliff and I'm so sorry to be here and then I'm like, ah, and then I would sort of cow it down like, oh, I don't know how I'm supposed to react to this because this is all new to me talking to, not just talking to one person, intimately, putting it out publicly.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_04]: So people have known most of my life are coming up around shit, I didn't know about blah, blah, blah, blah,
- 31:56[SPEAKER_04]: But then why ended up happening was it's kind of, it was kind of like, you know, you want to buy a new car and you don't see many silver cars on the road, see the thing, I'm going to buy a silver car.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_04]: As soon as you buy it, one of the everywhere.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_04]: The same sort of thing happened with this on you was a bit of an issue, but until I had come out and spoken about it, I just didn't know how much like in it.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_04]: The amount of people that were coming up to me going, I went through the same thing, things speaking out.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I'm worried about mine.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_04]: my name, my niece, my niece, my niece, my dad, you know, my father went through the same thing, my mother went through the same thing, blah, blah, blah, you know, she's like, it's unbelievable, like how many people have actually gone through it, you know, they're saying the numbers, what the numbers in fact they were wanting for, now they're changing, wanting for, you know, that's a lot of people when you're thinking, right, building people in the world, you know, like, I just couldn't stop, you know, once it was out, you know, I just got comfortable with it, and I just accepted like, this is what this is what I'm gonna do, you know, like,
- 32:54[SPEAKER_04]: that people I'd been through, you know, all the gurus and the therapists and everything along the way, you know, they hadn't worked it out.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_04]: So I just kind of took it upon myself to go, I'm going to work you out for myself.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I'm going to have one last crack at it of life and really change everything.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, even though the paddle, you know, I knew those are high percentage of that.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_04]: I wouldn't make it because of paddle and I have a sharp green ground
- 33:25[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it was, I started off the paddle and it wasn't like a suicide mission, but I was willing to do it for what I believed you to get me out there.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_04]: But then after day five, you know, something completely changed in me.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_04]: And then I was just, I was doing it to, to live.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it was part of my life.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_04]: And this is like, that all, same with share with other people.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_04]: You know, so it became so much bigger than me and the paddle itself.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's just, you know, I don't know.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_04]: I don't look at my events and they're not individual events that I do, they're one close-on to another.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_04]: They seem more random, but for me they've got purpose and they flow from one to another, my training flows from one to another as well and just keep exploring and keep on sharing my each of them even though they have their own greatness and I'm super proud of all of them,
- 34:25[SPEAKER_04]: or to next one and have to share this more with other people and what more can I find out about myself and then share that with other people as well.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_04]: So a selfie in uncomfortable situations and process how it could out of it.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_04]: You know, that's how that's how that's how it's got everyone came without as well.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_02]: It is a totally different challenge in a new way.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, if you did something else, if you skateboarded again across the US, maybe you'd be the more or less the same thing, different experiences for sure, but you'd know what to expect in a lot of ways.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_02]: So, you're pushing yourself in a totally new direction.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_02]: That's incredible.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_02]: That's absolutely incredible.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_02]: Can I ask you this?
- 35:05[SPEAKER_02]: Do you even draw it all the way back?
- 35:06[SPEAKER_02]: When you first started doing these, what was it reaction by the people around you?
- 35:11[SPEAKER_02]: saying, like, why are you doing all this?
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: Let's take a quick message break in here from the folks that help make this show possible.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_02]: That is plenty of that for now.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get back into the episode.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, look, that's that's the reason why I do these things.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_04]: I'm that sure is why I do that.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_04]: Clare out things don't just because like I don't do it like I said for it for an ego thing or anything like that to be the first person to do this or another world record or anything like that I don't really care too much about those sorts of things.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_04]: I like to do things that no one's done before because I can't ask anyone how to do it and if no one's done it before Well, I don't even know it's possible.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_04]: So I've got a process that as well now.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, I can do this yet no one's done before but yeah, I can do this how do I make it possible.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_04]: So anytime someone says something's impossible to me
- 36:03[SPEAKER_04]: someone else has, someone hasn't worked out how to do it.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_04]: That's all.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_04]: So, like Route 66 should have been skating 50 years ago.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_04]: To me, it just seems like a natural thing.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_04]: Guys, skate Route 66 is the most famous highway in the world, but we're building the stout during everything along that.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_04]: Why wouldn't you skate it?
- 36:22[SPEAKER_04]: You know, but no one else had done it before, but... Yeah, you know, that's why I love doing the different events
- 36:31[SPEAKER_04]: You know, and pushing the limits in that way, the people ask that question, why do you do it?
- 36:36[SPEAKER_04]: That's it.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_04]: That is the reason why I do these things.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_04]: So people and media and people like the selves and general people ask, why do you do it?
- 36:45[SPEAKER_04]: So I go, I do it because of this, and I'm able to say the cause.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_04]: Follow us just out there, spruking about the cause and saying that in the negatives around child abuse or positives, you know, how to overcome child abuse and everything like that.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_04]: But you do something that's extreme.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_04]: People get eyes on now, that question.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_04]: Why would you do that?
- 37:06[SPEAKER_04]: I do it because of this.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_04]: They stand up and listen and go.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_04]: And it's not just because of that, but they take more of an interest in it to go, well, okay.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_04]: But also for me, it gives a bit more clarity to people and it makes it more authentic.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_04]: When I explain to them that,
- 37:28[SPEAKER_04]: you keep on going.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_04]: You know, you're able to keep going and nothing's impossible and it's undeniable that I'm able to keep on going, but I also would be able to share how one able to do that.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_04]: And then it's not just because I'm some freak or anything.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_04]: It's just I'm putting myself purposely in physical mental emotional stress and drama to work at how I get out of it.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_04]: And I can share that and then I share that with you in a simple form.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_04]: I go to the extreme.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_04]: other people don't have to.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_04]: But, you know, again, it's just, it became a normal part of my life when I was a kid, you know, to push myself to that extremes and go through such torture or things, that that became a normal, but I've just been able to not shy away from it, not block any of that, but instead just twisted around and hands it and go, I've been through that,
- 38:24[SPEAKER_04]: Nothing can be worse than what it went through as a kid.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_04]: And then I kept it was out and I'm still here now.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm going to do this paddle.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_04]: The paddle was pretty gnarly, though.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_04]: So now it's kind of like, that's set my bar pretty high and my standard of pretty high at what normally is.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_04]: Also, so you know, everything I'll kind of do and just is related back to there and it's like, well, I can't be in more, you know, hair-raising and crazy than that, you know,
- 38:54[SPEAKER_04]: Nothing I'll do in my life that will ever compare to that paddle and for a couple of reasons, one is that my first event I've never done any endurance events or anything like that, before I push myself over years, but nothing really like that.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_04]: Classifications, such and such and things for people to place in a place you're just, you know, I surf, but not when you go along for that amount of time.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_04]: That also, you know, it was the first time I'd really face and I'd overcome my past traumas.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_04]: And that will never happen again.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_04]: I'll never have that experience ever again.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_04]: So that after that date five, I'll just, I'll never have that white lift it off my shoulder every again, you know, that self data or anything like that.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_04]: And so everything in life that I do is just they're challenged, but yeah, I'll just have no doubt on myself being able to do it.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_04]: But that's because they probably just don't test and challenge themselves enough on the daily basis.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, we all do, it's just a most people don't process.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_04]: The challenges that we go through when we set ourselves at that in the day.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it's their simpler.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_04]: Should I get a coffee, should I not?
- 40:08[SPEAKER_04]: Should I walk across the road here?
- 40:09[SPEAKER_04]: Should I go up to the traffic lights, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_04]: Every time you second guessing yourself, it's going like a little challenge, but you just bear with just, you know, take those little challenges for granted instead of,
- 40:21[SPEAKER_04]: You know, being up to sort of process a little bit and see how one ties into another, and then when big challenges happen, you know, you got the tools they read to go.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, most people have been through the words, day and experience of their life, and yet they're still here.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_04]: But they've also happened to create big challenges in front of them, and like they don't have the tools.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_04]: But they're still here still kicking along after what they've been through.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_04]: They've already got the tools, so I just haven't processed, so they're just not using them, and they're not pulling them out of their pockets when they need to, or they're just over-dramatizing it, and putting trust into other people rather than into themselves, or looking farther people to get them through rather than looking within themselves of their strength that they've got in themselves to be able to keep on going, I think that's pretty much across the board of everyone in life,
- 41:18[SPEAKER_04]: definitely like, you know, venture challenges, people, you know, they don't know about that, you know, there's a lot of, there's a lot of serial adventures, you know, endurance adventures, like you say, they're calling it just do the same, the same challenges, like they just run, or they run for a lot of multiple days, or whatever, and I say that because because that is a really unstable running for, you know, they're
- 41:47[SPEAKER_04]: to do another one, I've just got a bit more of a purpose why I do things like I don't need to do any more long endurance events because I feel like I've got what I needed out of doing them, I did enough of them to be able to back up why I did it for myself and work out those tools and that's why I've gone back to extreme sports also.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_02]: Do you know anybody specifically who has been affected by your story and what it has caused them to do?
- 42:22[SPEAKER_04]: So I had a mate who he actually ran around toiling with me and he's all drawn and he's probably on over 170 ultra marathon and he went through chart pieces well and last year two years ago he ran across America from New York to San Francisco.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_04]: He took him about five months and ran like
- 42:41[SPEAKER_04]: marathon distance, 20 to 26 miles every day, five days away, had the weekend off, and then kept on running.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_04]: He ran along that moment through, you know, same thing, stone, slate, and storms, and everything that does it, and all that.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_04]: And when he got to, when he got to San Francisco, across the bridge, you know, it was like, author was incredible, what he did, absolutely incredible.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_04]: But it was some post sort of weird things.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_04]: So I thought I'd live for a couple of months.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_04]: And anyway, after a few months, I turned up his doorstep, he's from Jacksonville, Florida.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_04]: And he knocked on his door and we just took a hung out for a little bit.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_04]: And I finally said to him, I said, I had to go with the run.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_04]: And he's like, it feel like it was a waste of time.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, what do you mean?
- 43:37[SPEAKER_04]: I thought when I was going to cross over the bridge in the San Francisco, I was going to be like a bubble was burst and I'd be free from my trauma from my past like you were with the paddle and you said, but it wasn't nice, so I feel like it was a bit of a waste of time.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_04]: And I'll call it, I didn't want to push it, but just later on, you know, explain to him why it was, it was probably he didn't, he probably didn't get the result that he wanted.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_04]: to within one was he put too much emphasis on that and too much stress on himself that that's what he wanted to happen and you know it was kind of waiting for rather than just processing what he was doing along the way but also you know he done over a hundred and seventy ultra marathons before so he trained in the same place he'd world the same shoes he done all these things you know and he used to run in 50 to 100 miles in one day
- 44:33[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he was only running 26 miles, sure he was doing a day after day, but he was pushing himself who actually was less than what he was used to anyway.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_04]: And he was just doing the same thing.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_04]: So he was trying to get the different result out of just doing the same thing and not reprogramming and not re-churning his body because his body was used to doing cross fits and gone for long runs, he'd done it most of his life.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_04]: So nothing was going to change.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_04]: So he said to me, what should I do then?
- 45:03[SPEAKER_04]: I said, you lived down the floor, and he's grabbing paddleboard, not just paddle across the Bahamas, but it's only like 50 kilometers or 26 miles or something.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_04]: Just paddle across, but don't tell social media or anything, just grab a board and just start paddling.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_04]: When you get over there, just spending on there, turning around and paddle back, you know, that way it's going to be something completely different.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_04]: You know, you know, you don't need to tell anyone about it, you just go and do it.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_04]: had to reprogram himself of how to learn these new things and with exploring to learn a new discipline, you know, your rewiring has to get reset because you've got to start thinking a different way and you've got to get out of that tunnel vision to open your mind up to new ways of training and new ways of thinking to be able to go and successfully do what you set out to do.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, I'll have to go down there and drag, I'll just, I'll grab, I'm just taking the Beijing.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_04]: I was a couple of times, so it's got for a pattern right there.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_02]: Damian, I got to tell you that, uh, I hate to admit it, but um, that was exactly the experience I was planning on doing this month was patterning from the Bahamas, the Florida, um, the Battle Order kayak, and I actually had the cancel because we've got a baby on the way.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_02]: I was right at that threshold where I told my wife, I'm like, hey, I called it off and she was mad at me.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_02]: She went and talked to me for a couple of days because she wants me doing this stuff and I said, I just didn't feel ready.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_02]: I felt like I needed to get the house ready and just get some stuff gathered and now you're making me say, I should have done it.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_02]: No, I got to do it now.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_02]: I got to do it.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you got to do it, but what you should do, you just paddle over there and mate them and then paddle back with them.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_02]: There you go.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_04]: I think you should paddle back.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_04]: You should paddle across by itself.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_04]: It's only at 50 kilometers, paddle five.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to take 10 hours to paddle across.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_02]: That's not bad at all.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_04]: It's not bad at all, like you can probably do it in eight like the bike, because I paddle by hands, and I paddle about five kilometers in a hell or something.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_04]: With a stand-up paddle board with an actual paddle, you're going to be going fast and maybe probably
- 47:35[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, 50 kilometers.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, probably doing eight hours already.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_04]: I can then you need a few supplies, like you probably only need, you know, I don't know half a gallon of water or something on the air with electrolytes in it.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_04]: Just some bars and stuff.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_04]: Just really just fuel up big time in the morning.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_04]: Like what I every morning, I would have like 250 grams of rice, four bananas and six eggs.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_04]: And all just have that and just eat that down until I was nearly sick.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_04]: And then I'd stop patdling the last thing about four or five hours before I call him and need it and I think so you're nearly halfway across and you probably need a couple of noodles and stuff and then get something across there and then patdle back with them.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_04]: That didn't even tell them.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I tell you what, let me look at see if they got any open spots and I'll I'll see what kind of training I can get in and see what happens.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, for sure.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: Just yeah, she comes join us and you jump off the hot air bullet.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I'm my dude.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_04]: I told him, I was like, oh, she don't want doing that.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, my gosh, that is awesome.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_02]: That is awesome.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I tell you what, wait, how can people follow along?
- 48:50[SPEAKER_02]: I got a wrap up here.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_02]: How can people follow along with your upcoming adventure?
- 48:53[SPEAKER_02]: What, where can they see it or watch it or follow you?
- 48:58[SPEAKER_04]: So I probably the best way is just to go and lie to solve a social media.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_04]: We're Instagrams, this Damien Rida, DM, IEN, RIDR, and Sang with my Facebook as well.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_04]: So, people are just going there, then we're going to send links, set links up.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_04]: Because on the Sunday, we're going to live stream as well, while I'm going up and occurs and long.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_04]: So we're at, and we'll make like a little mini documentary, but we'll put out some clips before hand of the whole thing.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_04]: The people can see me fumble my way off this hot air balloon.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_04]: I don't even know I'm going to go get it off, and I like, you can see how stand up air cools standing up, and I'm like, anything could happen more like get off the thing.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it's just, it's only blown up with a
- 49:40[SPEAKER_04]: and hot air.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_04]: That's it.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_04]: You know, they're pretty flimsy, but it's not like it's especially made thickened balloon that's going to hold my weight.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_04]: It's just going to collapse.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_04]: I just have to start sort of tiptoe on the cross pretty quick until it collapses and I fall off like a slime before it gobbles me up, I guess.
- 49:59[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_02]: Sounds awesome.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_02]: I can't wait to watch it.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I tell you what, Damien, you got it.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_02]: You got me inspired, man I got to go I got to go do set some sort of goal now.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_02]: I got to get a mattress and find out where I can just carry it somewhere Yeah, that's why I don't do that.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_04]: It's the worst thing I have done I can on there, right?
- 50:18[SPEAKER_04]: You got something to lay on though when you need to take a break Exactly But yeah, but I mean like, oh, you listen is out there.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_04]: You're not just testing challenge yourself
- 50:30[SPEAKER_04]: The more you push in yourself, as I said, you know, that the easier for the more that life challenges just sort of fall away to nothing, you know, and what becomes a challenge just seems like a fun learning experience, you know, kid, here we go again, you know, so that's going to work.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_04]: Sound says, this is the hottest chili you wouldn't eat it.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, yeah, we'll wait.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
