- 0:01big rival game. It's
- 0:04always good to get a win in here. Um as
- 0:06Steven told me, it's first time since
- 0:0811:12 we got backto-back wins. So they
- 0:10and they were tough, hard fought wins to
- 0:13get. So you got to give Auburn a ton of
- 0:15credit. I mean, they came ready to play.
- 0:17I thought they they were better than us,
- 0:19especially early in the game. Um we were
- 0:22fortunate to only be down four at the
- 0:23half. thought um our close to the half,
- 0:27you know, we're down 10 with two and a
- 0:28half to go to close cut six points off
- 0:30that lead was huge. Told our guys at the
- 0:32half and we couldn't have played much
- 0:33worse. We had nine turnovers.
- 0:36You know, we we didn't do anything good
- 0:39offensively barely. Defensively, we need
- 0:41to be a lot better and we got killed on
- 0:43the glass and somehow we're only down
- 0:45four. So, we we were fortunate and you
- 0:48know, got it together a little bit
- 0:50better in the second half when we had
- 0:52five second half turnovers.
- 0:56Thought we, you know, our guards made
- 0:57some big shots. Bigs made some tough
- 1:01defensive plays. You know, I thought
- 1:03Aiden Charelle kind of really bounced
- 1:04back. Had four blocks tonight. He was
- 1:07pretty good there late when we needed
- 1:09him. We we coaching staff kind of
- 1:12screwed up the challenge when we did.
- 1:14Would have been nice to have one there
- 1:16in the goalend. So, we we got to do a
- 1:18little bit better. I thought um Phylon
- 1:20Holloway played really well late. did
- 1:22the four-point play all the way got
- 1:24which you you know it was he scored his
- 1:26thousandth uh career point. So sure was
- 1:29nice for him to score his thousandth
- 1:31point back back here um in a win. I
- 1:35thought uh Phylon made some big shots.
- 1:37We made free throws. I mean kind of go
- 1:39down with our guards. You know Mari
- 1:41didn't miss a free throw. Phylon didn't
- 1:43miss one in the second half. Holloway
- 1:45went four or five. You know even our
- 1:47bigs Charel and Pediaaka went two for
- 1:50two and two for three. So making free
- 1:53throws late, some defensive plays we had
- 1:55to make late. Uh J London Jimson I
- 1:58thought played really well. We got to
- 1:59keep him out of foul trouble, you know,
- 2:01with uh Taylor not quite being as
- 2:04healthy and, you know, kind of gave us a
- 2:06little scare there in the first half.
- 2:08Thought it was huge that London stepped
- 2:10up the way he did, hit the big three,
- 2:12had the big turnover for us there uh
- 2:14late in the uh second half. So, lot lot
- 2:16of plays on both ends of the ball from
- 2:18our guys. A lot of grit, a lot of
- 2:22toughness with adversity. I mean, uh,
- 2:24Ritzel's got we don't know what exactly
- 2:27right in the injury. He's going to get
- 2:28exam tomorrow, but, you know, he's kind
- 2:30of been, you know, one of our tougher
- 2:32guys playing both sides of the ball. You
- 2:33know, he's only able to play 10 minutes
- 2:36and Taylor only plays seven. So, two of
- 2:38our more veteran guys with limited
- 2:40minutes and we were able to step up and
- 2:41get a win on the road. So, pr proud of
- 2:43our guys. Start on the right here with
- 2:45Blake.
- 2:46>> Yeah. Hollow had that stretch late where
- 2:47he scored nine straight for you guys.
- 2:49Just what did you make of of his
- 2:50performance late and his ability to be
- 2:52steady?
- 2:54>> I mean really talented player. I think
- 2:58he showed he's
- 3:00got some clutch jeans. I mean I didn't
- 3:04realize it was nine straight. That
- 3:06doesn't surprise me in hindsight.
- 3:09It's a four-point play in the middle of
- 3:11all that and I had the one layup. had
- 3:12the left-handed back-to-back games when
- 3:14he's hit super tough shots from they
- 3:18called the foul and the other one I
- 3:20maybe he did maybe he didn't hear but he
- 3:21and somehow had to end up getting a
- 3:23tough shot off man he he's skilled and
- 3:25he's stepping up big late in games I
- 3:27thought he was better on defense uh
- 3:30today too you know we've been
- 3:31challenging him to you know really step
- 3:33it up on defense you know his his
- 3:35quickness on the offense yeah I'm
- 3:37looking right now he uh he had actually
- 3:38had a positive uh defensive leverage
- 3:41today So, I'm really proud of him for
- 3:43that. And our defense was better when he
- 3:44was on the floor tonight. So, play hard
- 3:47on defense. Kind of let the offense
- 3:49follow. I think he's got the right
- 3:50mindset going and it resulted in some
- 3:52big plays late in the game.
- 3:54>> Nick Kelly,
- 3:55>> another hallway question. This is not
- 3:57his first time playing back here. He's
- 3:58still getting booed all the time. Still
- 4:00a lot of pressure on him. How do you see
- 4:01him handle that?
- 4:03>> Charles took a little bit off of him
- 4:04today. So, you know, good teammates.
- 4:07They
- 4:09shared in that. I think he's fine. And
- 4:11I've talked to him uh to Mike before
- 4:13both these games here and he he not
- 4:16bothered by it. I mean, he knew it was
- 4:17coming. I mean, that's what that's what
- 4:20they do.
- 4:22The best way to uh start him out. They
- 4:24were pretty quiet when we left today.
- 4:26Best way to quiet them is just win on
- 4:28the scoreboard. So, they were quiet last
- 4:30year, they were quiet this year. He's 2
- 4:32and0 coming back here. So, pretty good
- 4:34record for him coming back into Neville.
- 4:36Katie,
- 4:38>> this is the second game in a row that
- 4:39you all tightened up the rotation a
- 4:41little bit. Do you kind of feel like
- 4:42you're getting to the place where you
- 4:43have the rotation that you like?
- 4:46>> Uh, I don't want to quite say that just
- 4:48because Taylor and Ritzel were out, but
- 4:50yeah, we I mean, you know, it it's hard
- 4:53to play a ton of guys. You know, we
- 4:56ended up playing nine. Uh, it was pretty
- 4:59good. Obviously, Ritzel and Taylor would
- 5:01have played a lot more minutes if they
- 5:03were healthy. You know, probably not
- 5:05ideal playing Mari Allen 35 minutes.
- 5:08They struggled defensively late in the
- 5:11game. You know, you know, Hog Hall gets
- 5:13fouled a lot. So, they, you know, we
- 5:15were trying to guard him without foul.
- 5:17We didn't do a great job of doing that.
- 5:19You know, but, you know, he ended up
- 5:21with 24. He's pretty talented. But, you
- 5:24know, I it it's I mean, it's second half
- 5:27of conference play. You kind of got to
- 5:28go with guys that you've built some
- 5:31trust up with and that's that's what
- 5:33we're trying to do right now.
- 5:35>> What adjustments do you feel like you
- 5:36guys made defensively to clamp down more
- 5:38in the second half?
- 5:40>> I mean, we uh
- 5:43we were able to switch up our pick and
- 5:45roll coverage a little bit. Uh Pedford
- 5:47started getting going and we brought our
- 5:49bigs up a little higher. Tried to blitz
- 5:51them. I think we had the one turnover uh
- 5:54there when we we butched them when I was
- 5:56picking rolls. Uh some of the uh you
- 6:00know they they didn't turn the ball over
- 6:01much. He had two of their five
- 6:02turnovers. We still aren't doing a very
- 6:04good job um turning people over. But you
- 6:09know I I thought that was one big
- 6:12adjustment. We went to switching late
- 6:13too to try to help take away threes. You
- 6:18know I I thought our rebounding was a
- 6:20big issue. I mean it's not like some
- 6:23schematic adjustment but you know they
- 6:25had believe they had 10 awards in the
- 6:28first half and had four in the second
- 6:30half that it's a big difference. So
- 6:32giving them a bunch of second chance
- 6:33point they still killed us you know
- 6:36actually they ended up tied in second
- 6:37chance points. It was points off
- 6:39turnovers where they killed us. But, you
- 6:41know, the uh I thought our rebounding
- 6:44was better. Just our our little bit more
- 6:46defensive playm.
- 6:51But no huge I mean went to the zone one
- 6:54play. Of course, they hit the three.
- 6:56It's what seems like it always happens
- 6:58when you when you do it, but we tried
- 7:00that. Didn't work very well.
- 7:02>> Two more up front.
- 7:05Coach Biano won a perfect five of five
- 7:07from the field. Can you talk about his
- 7:09impact on the game and and what you saw
- 7:11out there, how he helped create some
- 7:13misfort?
- 7:14>> Yeah, know Charles big target inside.
- 7:18Um, you know, our guards I thought
- 7:20missed him few times where they could
- 7:23have got him, but they did find him. You
- 7:24know, when he got it, he finished. Uh,
- 7:28he was always super efficient when he
- 7:29was here. You know, he handled the ball
- 7:32on the break on the one, got fouled. you
- 7:34know, he uh was two for three at the
- 7:37line. I I thought just his impact on on
- 7:41defense
- 7:42with the uh you know, the rebound, he
- 7:44ended up leading the team in blue collar
- 7:46points, so he had some deflections and
- 7:49you know, just I think impacted the game
- 7:51a little that way. Even offensive
- 7:53rebound tips and stuff. So, yeah, he
- 7:56he's good. He finished at the rim. He's
- 7:57got a great demeanor about him. I
- 7:58thought he handled the uh environment
- 8:00really well and I'm I'm proud proud how
- 8:03he's been here.
- 8:04>> Last 100.
- 8:05>> Y the Baron at 25 points just as an
- 8:07instate kid. How does that feel for him?
- 8:10>> Yeah, I mean he super talented. Got it
- 8:12going. Made some tough shots. Bail us
- 8:14out when we had some really bad
- 8:15possessions late. You know, we'd like to
- 8:18keep the turnovers down. He had, I
- 8:20think, three right out of the gate. So,
- 8:22only have one. The rest of the game was
- 8:25a lot better. We got, you know, we got
- 8:27to continue to get him to keep his
- 8:28turnovers down. In these games, we play
- 8:30a lot better when when he's not turning
- 8:32the ball over, moving it. But he did
- 8:33lead us an assist with six, 26 or 25,
- 8:37six and five. Pretty good night. You
- 8:39know, it's nice to have,
- 8:42you know, instate kid play really well
- 8:43in the instate rivalry game, but shoot,
- 8:45we need need anybody to play well. We
- 8:47need him to play well in every game. So,
- 8:50not sure means any any more, but he's
- 8:54been good in a lot of games for us. She
- 8:55was good. He was good today.
- 8:56>> Thanks.
