Transcript
- 0:00Hello, and welcome back to another episode of the Money Clarity Podcast.
- 0:04I am your host, Lindsey Ciarrocca, and this week I'm going to bring you something a little bit different.
- 0:09So I want to start a series, it'll be a occasional random episode, where I talk about money thoughts that you're probably thinking but maybe not saying out loud.
- 0:23So for each one of these episodes, I will take a thought, and I will say it out loud.
- 0:29Not because it's mine, maybe it is, but also because I hear these things in some form or, or another from almost every woman I work with.
- 0:41And if you've had this exact thought and never spoken these words out loud, these are for you, and I just want you to know you're not alone.
- 0:53So here's the thought for this week: I make good money and have no idea where it goes.
- 1:02So maybe you've had this thought around the 26th, 27th, 28th of the month when you open your banking app and just kinda look at that number and say, "Where did it all go?"
- 1:17You know, it's a thought that comes back every month.
- 1:22Where did all of my money go?
- 1:25I make good money.
- 1:27Where did it all go?
- 1:30You probably know the big stuff like your rent or your mortgage, maybe how much your car payment is, but it's the in-between stuff that just seems to take up money, just seems to evaporate into thin air.
- 1:48You know, it's a stop at a gas station here, a subscription that you forgot about and keep forgetting to cancel.
- 1:57Maybe it was something you needed for the house or the kids.
- 2:01Dinner out because, let's be honest, you were just too tired to cook that night.
- 2:07None of these things feel like a decision or feel like a monumental decision in the moment.
- 2:14They are things that just happen, and then before you know it, it's the end of the month and the number in your bank account is somehow smaller than you expected again, just like last month The other part of
- 2:31it is that you feel like you should know how to deal with money.
- 2:38You're good at your job you're good at most other things in your life you might make decisions all day long that affect other people and again, you're good at it so why can't you figure out money?
- 2:54Well, the good news is knowing where your money goes isn't a gene that you are or are not born with.
- 3:03It is something you can learn It's not a personality flaw.
- 3:08It's not like you either were born with it or you weren't, and if you weren't, well, too bad, right?
- 3:15No, these are things that we can learn.
- 3:18But I'm also not gonna tell you to start building a spreadsheet today.
- 3:23As much as I love budgeting and love spreadsheets, That's not what today's about.
- 3:29You've probably tried that.
- 3:31You've probably listened to other podcasts.
- 3:34You've read books.
- 3:35You've tried budgeting apps, and they've worked for a week and a half, and then what?
- 3:46So today I'm gonna give you one tiny challenge.
- 3:50Go ahead and go into your banking app and just look.
- 3:57Just scroll back through the last couple weeks and look at your transactions How do they make you feel?
- 4:06Don't judge them.
- 4:08You can't change them.
- 4:09Just notice them and notice how they make you feel Something I tell my clients all the time is that you can't fix what you're not paying attention to, right?
- 4:22And most of us have never actually looked, like really looked at where our money's going and, or if we do, we've already decided that we're gonna feel bad about it before we even look at our banking app So
- 4:40my challenge for you today, give yourself five minutes, pull up your banking app, take a deep breath, and look.
- 4:53Feel whatever you might feel, and then worry about fixing it later.
- 5:01Take that first tiny step.
- 5:04I'm all about tiny steps and tiny wins And taking this one, taking this moment for yourself might feel like a huge step So again, just look.
- 5:15That's all you have to do today.
- 5:18Look, feel, fix later.
- 5:23And just remember, you're not alone.
- 5:25You're not alone in this.
- 5:27And if you need some help, that is totally okay.
- 5:31I'd love to see you inside the Empowered Money Circle.
